Biography of the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury
The Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury was pre eminently a figure of Victorian England,
and therefore needs to be understood within the historical context of his times. This
includes what is, perhaps, the most salient motivating factor in Shaftesbury s great
accomplishments in social reform and philanthropy his religion. Christianityin
Victorian England was, above all else, Christianity in crisis. Those with a shallow
sense of history will generally point to the publication of Darwin s Origin of
Species in 1859 as if that were enough to sum up the crisis of Christianity in this
time period but in reality there were massive social changes taking place in England
during this time. After all, it was before Darwin that the Victorian poet and social
critic Matthew Arnold wrote his famous poetic complaint about the decline of belief
in England, Dover Beach :
The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth s shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furl d.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar... (Arnold 214)
In Shaftesbury s lifetime, Christianity s social message was particularly endangered.
The Industrial Revolution had begun in the period immediately preceding the
Victorian era, and continued with remorseless rapidity throughout the Victorian
period: this had led to massive inequalities of wealth, combined with the total erosion
of traditional ways of life in the rural period, causing the displaced poor to move to
cities. Shaftesbury s
Methane Hydrates. Everyone Who Does Not Live Under A
Rock
Methane Hydrates
Everyone who does not live under a rock enjoys their heating and energy supply that
charges their computers and keeps them toasty in the winter. Nearly one hundred
percent of the time, an individual using such resources will neglect to take note of
where they come from. Many a time this energy comes from natural gas (methane
hydrates), which have special properties like all chemicals that can make them bad
for the environment, and lead to consequences for the future. Since America
industrialized, most of our energy reserves comes from nonrenewable, carbon based
resources. Currently, The United States uses approximately 26.6 trillion cubic feet of
natural gas (How). The main component of natural gas is of course methane ... Show

However, if you do get the methane out into a usable form, a person could use it to
heat their house by combusting methane. When methane undergoes a reaction with
oxygen (burning), the covalent bonds around the central carbon atom break,
transforming into heat energy. In the process though carbon also bonds with oxygen
gas creating carbon dioxide (CO2). The leftover hydrogen atoms then bond with
more oxygen and form more water. This of course results in a gaseous form of
carbon dioxide and water. In the end the process is termed exothermic due to it
releasing heat into the surrounding area. The products of this reaction will go to
completion as shown below.
As the products leak out and are stuck in the atmosphere, the heat energy that water
takes with it is transferred to the carbon dioxide due to the second law of
thermodynamics, which states Entropy always increases (Tro). Due to this the
atmosphere increases in temperature due to the heat capacity of the carbon dioxide.
This is how global warming works. However, the heat taken in by water is quickly
lost from the atmosphere due to rainfall. On the side of the carbon dioxide not so
much. The water cycle that everyone learned in grade school can take a couple days
or more. Sadly enough, the carbon cycle can take one hundred to two hundred
million years to complete. Carbon dioxide created from methane can also be
absorbed by water. When

Color Imagery In A Red Dress 1946 By Alice Munro
In A Red Dress 1946 , a short story by Alice Munro, uses the significance of color
imagery throughout the story. The color red represents nonconformity, standing
out or being unique This is because of the narrator s unwillingness to be a unique
girl. However, the color blue represents conformity, being able to blend in with
society, and the ability to be like everyone else due to the narrator s lack of courage
to be unique and to be herself. Both of these colors point out different aspects of the
narrator s inner self and show how much she desires to hide her unique redself and
appear blue. Colorimagery is used throughout the short story, A Red Dress 1946 in
order for the author to demonstrate the inner thoughts of the narrator. In the short
story, A Red Dress 1946 by Alice Munro, Color imagery is used for signifying a
girls point of view of her world and her own self by using the color red which
represents nonconformity. The narrator has only a slight interest in being red, but
she really wants to be blue, just like everyone else. Munro writes, When I was
asked a question in class, any simple little question at all...that I had blood on my
skirt .(2) The narrator is just so nervous about being red she is thinking of bad things
that can happen with the color red. She is thinking of all the bad times the color red
could do a girl badly, just like a girls period could leak at any moment. In A Red
Dress 1946 , a short story by Alice Munro, she uses Color Imagery to show the
significance of the narrator s view of the color red and all the Evil about it.
In a short story by Alice Munro, A Red Dress 1946 , Color Imagery is used to
represent the inner feelings of the narrator and how she wants to be blue. The
narrator s dream is to live a blue life, a life where she is just like everyone else.
Munro writes, when I was unaware of the world s opinion. Now, grown wiser, I
wished for dresses like those my friend Lonnie had, bought at Beale s store (1).
Lonnie is able to buy things like her dresses from stores which just makes the
narrator want to be blue. The narrator wants to be blue even more because of how

Atheism Is Not A Religion
What do you believe Atheism is Religion or nonReligion? There are many different
people who say different thing about Atheism why you might ask nobody can really
say what it is they all just have their own opinion. A British Atheist Sanderson Jones
is a founder of the Sunday Assembly atheist church movement, who believes that
Atheismis considered a religion. A man named Jim Mulholland believes that Atheism
is not a religion. Out of everyone that has their own opinion these two men stand out
from everyone else. These two men have found ways to make people think that
Atheism is and or is not a religion. Some studies show that Atheism is a Religion and
there are some that show Atheism is not at all a Religion. Sanderson Jones said that...

definition of religion includes a belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling
power, usually a God or gods. He is stating that in certain ways people can see that
atheism is a religion, but yet their old habits are beginning to fade away for people
to change their way of life to become like all atheists. Mulholland also said My
personal experience also suggest atheism fails as a religion. Jim was once an
atheists and did not give the group he was in a chance to give him more
information on why they all believed that atheism is a religion. Mulholland went to
the Sunday Assembly that Sanderson Jones was in charge of. Mulholland stated
that the church members would gather to sing, meditate, and hear a speech.
Mulholland decided to research and make a statement that atheism is not a religion
after he once was an atheists. Mulholland also states, I lost it. Becoming atheist
was not like divorcing one person and marrying another. It was like the death of a
spouse. It was not something I chose or initially welcomed. It was frightening and
lonely. Mulholland was stating that becoming atheist was easy for him, he felt as no
one was supporting him and he was alone throughout this new journey. When
Mulholland says I lost it he could be saying that his mindset changed and the way he

Social Media Child Development
I m sure all have heard the aged African proverb, It takes a village to raise a child.
The upbringing of a youth is a very imperative time. What is learned during the
development stages of life is stored in the brain for future experiences, so that they
know which decisions to make. Parents, alone, have wisdom that can be shared with
their children, but different interactions within a community have a huge effect on
the outcome of a childs overall development. In today s society, family bonds are
not as strong as they once were. We, as a nation have moved further and further
into technological advancement, and that is where most of out leisure time is
directed towards. The village around a child is whatever he/she is exposed to on a
regular basis; and, being that social media has become more and more popular
around the world, it is believed that it, in itself, is that very village .
Most children today are able to access social media in a matter of seconds through the
technologies of smart phones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hilliard school system administrator. In the Scarlet Letter, Pearl s village is a Puritan
community who treated incidents in the most distinct of ways. Growing up with
her mother, Hester, who loved her dearly and was honest with her was not enough
to satisfy her needs in life. She was peculiar in many ways due to the fact that her
community was not in favor of her family; and even the concept of family was
incomplete. She did not have her father. For a while, no one in her community
stepped in to even act as a father figure for her, which had negative effects on the
growth of little Pearl. She would ve had a more joyful, normal childhood (and
adulthood) had someone from her village stepped in, as her mother alone was not
Essay On Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord compression/injury
Definition
Spinal cord injuries are fractures or dislocations to the vertebrae. Spinal cord injuries
can be classified as either complete or incomplete. Complete means that spinal cord
can no longer send messages below the injured area resulting in paralysis. With
incomplete spinal cord injuries there is still some movement and sensation below the
injured area. Spinal cord injuries can be caused for many reason including but not
limited to: hyperflexion, hyperextension, axial loading or vertical compression,
excessive rotation, or penetrating trauma. Spinal cord injuries are commonly caused
by vehicle accidents, violence, falls, and sports injuries.
Physical Assessment/Clinical Manifestations
Loss of movement, loss of sensation, including the ability to feel heat, cold and

Multiple sources cite false alarms in anywhere from 72 99% of all alarms (Ensslin,
2014; Meeks, 2014; Sendelbach Funk, 2013). Clinical alarms are in place to
enhance patient safety by alerting health care workers to deviations in predetermined
normal status (Sendelbach and Funk, 2013), but with up to 1000 electronic alerts
and alarms each shift, it is difficult to know which alarms to respond to (Duggan,
2016). In labor and delivery, two lives are depending on the nurseto know which
alarms are important to respond to. In addition to the safety of the patient, persistent
alarms affect the labor experience of the patient and family, contributing to increased
stress and anxiety and decreasing the holistic experience (Meeks, 2014). Many times

came to an end, many Europeans had immigrated to and populated Texas. In the
period of the great migration, thousands of Europeans immigrated to Texas.
In 1842 to 1878, Germans created an organization for German immigrants to attempt
to constitute New Germany at the borders of Texas, which was called the
Adelsverein. It brought approximately sixty thousand German immigrants to Texas.
Affluent Germans created a society, in which they helped farmers who didn t have

clustered in small communities from Houston and Galveston to Kerrville and into the
Hill Country.
The Germans affected the Texas Revolution quite a bit as well.
Some German immigrants lended a hand to the Texans, helping them with the battles
in the Texas Revolution. They fought at the Battle of San Jacinto, died defending the
Alamo, some escaped and were the survivors of the Goliad Massacre, and one
German even signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. Since many German

Body Cams Research Paper
A current topic of debate in the field crime enforcement is the use of officer mounted
body cams. There are multiple arguments for and against the implementation of this
type of technology which makes the authorization for use a tough decision for
officials. Proponents of the use of bodycams argue that if both the officer and
suspects know that their actions are being recorded, then they will control their
behavior as to not incriminate themselves. On the other side, opponents argue that
policeofficers may be hesitant to take the necessary steps in some cases for fear of
being reprimanded for their actions. An argument against the use of body cams is
that the police may not comply with policies, and only record at certain times. In his

In the United States, in particular, policies such as this may be necessary to reduce
police shootings and abuse of suspects. In 2011, police killed six people in
Australia, two in England, six in Germany and, according to an FBI count, 404 in
the United States. And that FBI number counted only justifiable homicides, and was
comprised of voluntarily submitted data from just 750 of 17,000 law enforcement
agencies (Stanley). The hope is that the implementation of these cameras reduces
these numbers by a significant margin by providing reason for both the cops and the
criminals to be more controlled. The use of cameras could also decrease the fear of
police officers in routine crime stops if the citizen is aware that the officer s actions
are being recorded and
A Comparison Of All Quiet On The Western Front
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and actual happenings
from the war display many similarities. The book does go much more in depth with
the war than any other resource or letter, but there is similarities in everything in the
book to any other info about World War 1. Looking from All Quiet on the Western
Frontto actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and see the
similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during
World War 1.
Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as
described as in the book sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human
eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead bodies lying on the ground just for
something dry to walk on. Killing each separate louse is a tedious business when a
man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one
s fingernails very soon becomes wearisome. (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an
example in the book that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the
other men are sitting around the fire picking lice out and burning them in a tin.
Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling immodesties.
(Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines,
saying how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was
embarrassing, but now he s comfortable with using them. I cannot bear to look at
his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is the dirt of the trenches, it shows
through blue black like poison. (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul describes the trench
mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their
lives because it caused gangrene. The rats here are particularly repulsive they are
so fat the kind we call corpse rats. (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) The trenches could be
very muddy and smelly. There were many dead bodies buried nearby and the
latrines (toilets) sometimes overflowed into the trenches. Millions of rats infested
the trenches and some grew as big as cats. There was also a big problem with lice
that tormented the soldiers on a daily basis. (Heirs, 2014). In the article it

Blackberry Picking Seamus Heaney Analysis
In Blackberry Picking, Seamus Heaney isn t just retelling an experience. He
masterfully weaves in a hidden lesson that becomes clear as the reader nears the
end of the poem. His description of picking blackberries is in itself a metaphor of
one s childhood memories and their perception at the time. He utilizes literary
devices such as imagery, allusions and narrative point of view to set the mood,
change the tone and draw in his readers. Mr. Heaney also structures his poem into
two different sections, with each telling the story in a different tone with a different
purpose behind it. However, what s more impressive is his use of intense diction to
layer the poem with emotion and imagery that services his hidden message.
Seamus Heaney begins the poem by placing a time stamp on it. It begins in Late
August a time for harvest which lays the groundwork for the harvesting that will

the memory he wants the reader to picture. While his language is intense it s never
forceful, it s filled with passion but in a violent manner. He conveys his experience
in a romanticized manner like when he mentioned the blackberry s flesh was sweet
like thickened wine (5 6). However, he slowly moves away from the romanticized
language and into a more natural language. While his intense language doesn t fade,
it changes along with the tone as the poem transitions into the moral section. It
changes in terms of its purpose. In the beginning, it sets an image that would guide
the reader along while in the end it more used to invoke
Staple Comparison Essay
Long term debt to equity is very similar to debt to equity, but it reveals an
important characteristic of the company s debt make up, that is how much of it is
long term. This is important because long term debt means long term interest
payments, and generally involves larger principles. This can mean greater
leverage, but it also indicates greater risk. Many banks are wary of companies that
hold too much debt, and especially the companies that hold too many long term
debt obligations. Another downside from this perspective is that higher perceived
risks by creditors generally can lead to increased interest rate, making this debt
even more expensive. Staples hold only about one quarter of the long term debt in
relation to equity compared to Office Depot or Amazon. This gives Staples several
advantages because the firm is likely to be perceived as less risky. It will likely
still be easy for Staples to find financing for expansion or operations than for its
major competitor. This is due not only to its holding less long term debt in relation to
equity, but also because Staples remains a profitable company... Show more content

This is a good sign in that the company has always been able to meet its debt
obligations, even in years where it could not ultimately provide a return to its
shareholders. Staples position is even more favorable when compared to that of
Office Depot, which had a negative times interest earned ratio in three out of the
five years analyzed. This makes Office Depot a far riskier investment for any
creditor that Staples, and a risky investment in general. As with long term debt to
equity above, this would place Staples in a far better position than its main
competitor to obtain funds to expand. Staples has only in FY 2015 fallen behind
Amazon again, but with both companies maintaining positive ratios, this is not

The Christmas Holiday From The Federal Calendar
Omitting the Christmas Holiday from the Federal Calendar
The establishment of a legal holiday is best defined as a day where there are no
courts, labor, and is a day of joy and rest. While there should be a separation of
church and state, Christmas is considered a legal holiday and one needs to question
the validity of establishing this day as a legal holiday when one looks at the concept
of separation of church and state and considering the diversity we face in today s
modern society.
Christmas in in fact defined as a Holyday. This should not be considered a legal
holiday due to the fact that it is Christian based and we do not have legal holidays
that recognize other religions. The United States does not have a recognized national
religion, so Christmas should be separated from legally recognized holidays.
In the American Law Register the opening paragraph gives an interesting point of
view on this matter. Notwithstanding the distinction drawn by the great American
Lexicographer, between a holiday and a holy day, where by the latter should be
used as the proper term for a religious festival, while the former should rather
denote a day of exemption for labor and of amusement, joy and gaiety, the common
impression seems to liken both the holiday and the holyday to the great weekly day
of rest and legal inaction? (Uhle 137)
With cultural diversity being what it is today, and the many different religious
traditions that comes of this, establishing a holyday as a legal

The first proven fact is true be cause they have evidence of a plane disappearing

Business Intelligence Vs. Business Analytics
Business Intelligence VS Business Analytics
Without big data analytics, companies are blind and deaf, wandering out onto the
web like deer on a freeway. Geoffrey Moore, author and consultant.
Introduction
Business intelligence and analytics (BIA), a term coined in 1989, has gained much
reaction in the IT practitioner community and academia over the past two decades.
BIA refers to: (1) the technologies, systems, practices, and applications that (2)
analyze critical business data to (3) help an enterprise better understand its business
and market (research paper).
Traditionally, business intelligence (BI) has been used as an umbrella term to
describe the concepts and methods to improve business decision making by using
fact based decision support systems. BI also includes the underlying architectures,
tools, databases, applications, and methodologies. BI s major objectives are to
enable interactive and easy access to diverse data, enable manipulation and
transformation of these data, and provide business managers and analysts the ability
to conduct appropriate analyses and perform the actions [Turban et al. 2008; Wixom
et al. 2011]. Successful BI initiatives have been reported for major industries, from
healthcare and airlines, to major IT and telecommunication firms [Anderson Lehman
et al. 2004; Carte et al. 2005; Turban et al. 2008].
As a datacentric approach, BI heavily relies on the various advanced data collection,
extraction, and analysis technologies [Turban et al.
Jones Electric Distribution
Mr. Jones, A recent evaluation of Jones Electrical Distribution has occurred in
request of a loan. An assessment of the company s financial health shows that it is
profitable. The shortage in cash flows regards managerial attention. Since Jones
opened in 1999 the company has seen rapid growth in a highly competitive field.
General contractors and electricians have preferred Jones for their business. The
request for this loan also has occurred at the end of March; past patterns show that
your company is seasonal, with most sales occurring in spring and summer months.
Previously stated facts estimate that sales will gradually increase. If managed
properly Jones has potential to develop, grow, and add additional sites in the future....

After accepting a large loan of $350,000, the president of Jones Electrical
Distribution, is going to have to make cut backs and changes in everyday life. One
area that we feel that you could improve in is your purchasing of inventory. There
seems to be a huge influx of additions to your inventory, and based on the decrease in
your inventory turnover ratio, the increase of inventory seems to be a bit
unnecessary. Looking at the financial statements we feel that you could improve
your cash flows by buying the appropriate amount of inventory. Although you are
expected to continually grow, we feel that if you purchased inventory in
proportion to the growth that your company expects, it would improve your
inventory turnover rate. Doing this would help you be more profitable. Another
area of concern for us is your collections policy. We feel that if you enforced a more
strict collections policy that it would improve other areas of your finances. By the
looks of it, it appears that the lack of enforcement has deducted your available cash
which has forced an inhibition of payment during the discount period on your credit
line. We feel that you need to take the necessary steps to collect on your Accounts
Receivables in a timely manner, so that you may take advantage of the discount
period. According to our calculations you are forgoing approximately $67,000 by
capitalizing on the discount period.
Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich
Ivan Denisovich wrote about one day out of his 3,653 day sentence in a Gulag.
His story was adapted by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in One Day in the Life of Ivan
Denisovich. Why he chose this day is never actually stated. It is a very typical day,
but it had its small, unusual moments that made it special. Denisovich states that his
day was almost happy, and the things that made him happy are things we wouldn t

of the hole. This novel shows us what Shukov s idea of happiness has become, and
demonstrates the dreadful life of living in a labor camp. In gang 104, there is a sense
of companionship amongst the members. The leaders of gang 104, Pavlo and Tyurin,

French American Dream Essay
Traveling has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Imagine strolling down a
sidewalk being surrounded by the twinkling lights of world famous monuments and
chapels. Hearing an elegant, but virgin language from inside the cafe serving cultural
cuisine. As an American it is natural to feel so out of place, but so comfortable with
the surroundings in the stylish environment. Being 5000 miles from home has never
felt so native.
France to me has always been a country I would love to visit. French is the
language of love and the way the pronunciation of the simplest words rolls off the
tongue is so fascinating. To able to study the language at such an up front and
personal point of view would be an honor and humble experience. The delectable
French food, however would be the best part in my opinion. One of my main points
of traveling around is to be able to indulge in the different meals one wouldn t
normally find or prepare in my kitchen. It is well known for the French chefs to
care a lot about their food and prepare every meal with delicacy and perfectionism.
The country is known for its rich history in culinary arts and offer a wide spectrum of
types of food there. Like me, this is every food lover s dream.

The Executive Of The Virgin Company
Sir Richard Branson is a global entrepreneur and also the chairman of the Virgin
Company. Within a large company such as Virgin, it is very important to work in a
team, and there are a diverse range of teams that exist within the Virgin group such as
the top management team, problem solving team, continuous improvement team,
cross functional team and the work team. A top management team is defined as the
CEO, executives or general manager, vice presidents and other top department heads
whose job is to help the organisation achieve its mission and goals. (Kinicki, 404)
This can be seen from the behavior of Branson giving the employees his private
number and paying close attention to every firm as he wants to help those people and
companies within the Virgin groupwho are belligerent. Many of the cabin crews are
hired only during the peak season and then they are disbanded. This is an example of
a problem solving team as they only meet as a temporary team. Moreover, there are
interest groups and friendship groups exist within the group. Branson actually
encourages this by giving freedom to the employees as he thinks it is important for

Examples Of Father Son Relationship In The Book Night
Mclaughlin #1 The book Night shows that father son relationship means that you
would give your own life for someone, but it also shows how it can be twisted that
you would kill a member of your family for as much as a piece of bread. In the book
Night by Elie Wiesel the author uses many scenarios of father sonrelationship such as
, when Elie tough his father to march at one of the concentration camps. Another
example of father son relationships is when Elie saved his dad from being thrown out
of a train. If he hadn t done that his dad would be thrown into a pile of dead people
when he was still alive. Lastly an example of father son relationships is when a child

How Energy Crisis Is A Crisis Of Human Development

Energy production of any country is the measure of its economy. No country can

Red Herring In The Hound Of The Baskervilles
In The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, red herrings are
everywhere. Conan Doyle uses red herrings, something, especially a clue, that is or is
intended to be misleading or distracting (Marriam Webster s Dictionary, 2008). to
trick the reader into thinking they knew what is going on.
Conan Doyle used quite a few red herrings in his mystery to throw the audience into
confusion. Sometimes, these tricks foreshadowed something bigger that was going to
happen.Their main purpose was to trick the reader into missing small but important
details while the bigger parts were mixing together in the shadows to come out at a
different point in time and all come together once that clue or evidence was revealed
to the reader.

This was a big red herring because it would be easy to blame a murder on a prison
escapee when he was present at the time, but Selden s story was really anti
climactic. Conan Doyle made us think that Selden was going to be a problem in the
story because Mr. and Mrs. Barrymore seemed suspicious when they were caught by
Watson sending light signals to an unknown person deep in the moor. The unknown
person turned out to be Selden and the signals were telling him that he was going to
get food soon. The way the Barrymore s acted caused the audience to believe that
they and the convict were up to no good and that they both were plotting against
Watson, Sir Henry, and Sherlock Holmes.
Red herrings is something that was used in writing from a long time ago, as well
as today. For example, President Donald Trump uses many red herrings in his
campaign to please people and get more votes. With these elements, people are able
to twist the truth to make people believe you are going to do as they want. Red

Throughout literature characters have faced oppression in many forms including
racism and sexism. Twentieth century authors have successfully captured both
hardships endured and the triumphs realized. Nelson Mandela once said No one is
born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or
his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be
taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.
Mandela professes that humans are not born to hate someone of a different color or
to treat them differently. They are taught that people can survive, even flourish in the
face of such adversity. The Younger family in the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine

New England Vs Chesapeake Colonies
Although both the New England and the Chesapeake region colonies, which were
located in Maryland, Virginia. Had been settled and ruled by the English, in the
year 1700 the colonies had evolved into two very separate distinct societies. The
first major cause of this differentiation lays in the very first reasons in which the
founding of the two region s colonies were originally discussed and planned. For
example in 1607 the London Company of Virginia, which is a joint stock company,
had been formed to settle in the Virginia area colonyfull of Englishmen. However the
Company wanted this colony solely for economic gain for the mother country itself.
As the (Document F), Captain Smith s history of Virginia, shows the first colonists
spent a majority of their time searching for gold like the in Spanish windfall instead
of planting crops. As a result, half of the colony died of starvation and malnutrition.
Only Capt. Smith s assumption of dictatorial power and his use of draconian
measures prevented the colony from collapsing completely, which was the saving
grace. In contrast to the mercenary nature of Virginia, New England was founded
out of altruistic and religious reasons. The Separatists, and later the Puritans who
arrived in 1630, came primarily so that they might practice their religion as they
wished, free of royal interference. As John Winthrop wrote, the settlers saw their

If the Sandwich Blitz, Inc. were to expand on a large scale, strengths include the
current consistency in the quality of food that is found among the current eight
freestanding shops and the historic performance of these shops. The 30% return on
investment for 2011 shows that the company has been successful and is in a good
place financially for expansion. Another strength is that the sandwich and beverage
shops do not require a large lease in order to be successful. Being able to lease land
that is unsuitable for most commercial purposes gives the company a competitive
advantage when negotiating leases and would continue to be a strength in the large
scale expansion.
A weakness in the large scale expansion of the Sandwich Blitz shops is the ... Show

Because of a recent economic downturn, there may be an opportunity to negotiate
new lease opportunities at even better rates. Also, franchising the Sandwich Blitz
shops seems like a great opportunity for expansion beyond Dalman and Lei s current
large metropolitan area. This would require training upfront on Dalman s part to
insure the same quality and consistency in the food preparation. However, once the
franchisees shops were established, there would be less time Dalman and Lei for
any specific issues, as the franchisee would be responsible.Dalman and Lei can
participate in the profitability of these franchises without the same level of
management that is currently required. This opportunity would also potentially be
less risk for the company as a large amount of capital would not be required in the
expansion.
One threat for the Sandwich Blitz, Inc. is the economic downturn that has
negatively affected the occupancy in the office parks where half of the shops
currently exist. The lower traffic in these areas may affect the profitability going
forward and affect the cash flow in the midst of the large scale expansion. Also, the
two new franchise operations that offer similar food and beverages and may enter
the area soon are threats to the potential success of a large scale
Susan Glaspell Themes
Susan Glaspell is an American Pulitzer Prize winning playwright who composed
the phenomenal play Trifles in 1916. The concept of the play came about while
she was reminiscing about the Hossack s murder case. Glaspell created five central
characters to bring the play to life on stage who are George Henderson¬¬ county
attorney, Henry Peters sheriff, Lewis Hale a neighboring farmer, Mrs. Peters, and
Mrs. Hale. A terse overview of the playincludes Mr. Hale visiting the Wright s
farmhouse to preferably speak with Mr. Wright; unfortunately, Mr. Wright was
strangled to death by a rope. Mrs. Wright claims she does not know what occurred in
their home due to her heavy sleeping. However, the central characters segregate by

Wright is in jail. During the time period of the play, women rights were oppressed
and the only option they had to earn an identity in the patriarchal society was by
becoming a wife. Men were the superior and self assertive beings while women
were inferior to them and timid. Women depended on men to provide for them
even if they were miserable during the early twentieth century. Men would work
the farm during the day while women tended to the housework. From my
perspective, Mrs. Wright murdered her husband because she wanted an escape
from the pain and isolation in her marriage. According to Mrs. Hale, I wonder how
it would seem never to have had any children around. No, Wright wouldn t like the
bird a thing that sang. She used to sing. He killed that, too (1613). This implies that
Mr. Wright killed Mrs. Wright s bird as he did her aspirations. Therefore, Mrs.
Wright s anger built up in her over the years and it finally erupted causing her to
strangle her husband as he did her one prized possession who kept her company.
The bird represented Mrs. Wright because it was locked up in the birdcage just as
Mrs. Wright was isolated from the world in her marriage. Her only escape from the
horror was
Different Types Of MRSA
MRSA stands for Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and is a bacteria that
causes infectious open wounds on the skin. MRSA is particularly dangerous because
it is resistant to most types of antibiotics, and is easily transmittable throughout the
general public. There are two types of MRSA: HA MRSA: which is healthcare
associated MRSA; and CA MRSA: which is community associated MRSA. The signs,
symptoms, and treatment are all similar between the two different types of MRSA (
MRSA Overview, 1995). While resistant to most antibiotics, there are treatment
options, however, prevention is the most important step.

infections, such as infection of an open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the infected wound is mild and has not infected the internal body, antibiotics may
not be needed. The treatment will only include the wound being cut and drained. If
the infection is more severe and antibiotics are needed, there are newer types the can
be used. MRSA has been shown to respond well to drugs such as vancomycin,
ceftaroline, and daptomycin. Rarely, a MRSA infection has been shown to
become resistant to vancomycin, and progresses to diseases termed VRSA. If this
happens, a combination of antibiotics will be used. The treatment plan can be more
successful if a material sample is obtained, as the culture can be tested to see which
antibiotics it will respond to. The antibiotics course needs to be completed in full,
even if symptoms disappear. If the course is not completed and the MRSA bacteria
is still in the body, the infection is come back and become resistant to the antibiotics
originally used. This is how MRSA becomes more dangerous and less susceptible to
more and more antibiotics throughout time. The prognosis of patients infected with
MRSA ranges and depends on the severity of the infection. If the infection was mild,
patients almost always recover full and obtain 100% of their health back. For
infections that advance to deeper infections, for patients that were infected with H
MRSA, or for patients that have other health complications such as diabetes, the
prognosis is not as positive. There
Research On The Financial Performance Of The English...
This dissertation was written to examine whether the financial performance of the
English Premier League and the sampled clubs improved after UEFA introduced
their Financial Fair Play regulations. This led to the comparison of the results for
the league in general and individual clubs over a ten year period (2004 2015). This
ten year period was broken down into two parts: FFP1 which represented years
prior to the Financial Fair Play introduction (2004 2009) and FFP2 representing post
Financial Fair Play years (2010 2015). The previous chapter discussed each
hypothesis and provided the results achieved. Therefore, the aim of this chapter will
be to appraise the empirical evidences and determine whether they comply with their

Collectively, two out of the six clubs had experienced an increase in profitability,
whether it was a reduction in losses when comparing both periods or an increase in
profits. This meant that the clubs relevant turnovers exceeded their expenses. For
example, only Chelsea and Tottenham both recorded improvements in their
profitability with Chelsea having the highest loss reduction percentage of 70%.;
whereas the other four clubs did not improve their profitability over this period.
Although Arsenal maintained profits throughout the FFP2 period averaging ВЈ22.1
million a year, it still managed to gain a decrease in profits. These results may
seem befuddling as Arsenal were the only club not to make any losses during the 10
year period. Overall, the results show that although the Premier league increased its
profitability, the collective sampled club s results differed. The losses in the FFP1
period collectively totalled ВЈ371 million; whereas the losses in the FFP2 period
collectively totalled ВЈ461 million. For there to be an improvement of profitability,
the cumulative losses in FFP1 must be greater than the cumulative losses in the FFP2
period. This suggests profitability decreased after the introduction of Financial Fair
Play. However, the story differs with individual clubs as they all reacted differently.
5.2 Hypothesis 2 The second hypothesis of this dissertation implied that the

Essay on Political Culture of Mexico
Mexican Political Culture
As once put by Mexican Nobel laureate Octavio Paz, Mexico is a land of super
imposed pasts (McCormick, p.326). It continues to be and is seen as a melding pot
of its European and Native American ideas about society, law and government. Its
history has had a major influence on the political culture of Mexico, seen through
years of revolution, violence and corruption. Mexico is a considered a new
democracy, but there is a tension still seen between democracy and authoritarianism.
The country we see today has impressive growth yet is still enduring poverty. It s a
geographically diverse country, with a population of approximately 106million
people. Latin American political culture is seen as elitist, ... Show more content on

It is said that in December 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared on three occasions to a
Christian Indian, Juan Diego, six kilometers north of Mexico City, and identified
herself as Guadalupe. It is said that the Guadalupe symbol links family, politics and
religion; the colonial past and the independent present; and the Indian and the
Mexican. It reflects the salient social relationships of Mexican life and embodies the
emotions they generate. (Merrill MirГі, Religion) Devotion to the Virgin Guadalupe
remains strong even as Mexican society changes. For example, in a national opinion
poll found, nine out of ten Mexicans still continued to ask intercessions from the
Virgin or another saint. (Merrill MirГі, Religion) Another huge aspect of Mexican
political culture is the Constitution of 1917. Many Mexicans attribute the origins of
the political system in Mexico to the Revolution of 1910 1920 and it s Constitution
of 1917. Unlike their American neighbors, the people of Mexico focus and look to
the past, not the future, to there missed dreams and hopes. Many people of Mexico
support and have faith and pride in the Constitution of 1917, agree with the goals of
the Revolution and support their political institutions. (McCormick p.333) The
Constitution is seen more as an outline of the goals Mexico has aspired for. Their

Apollo Shoes Case Study
OVERVIEW Apollo Shoes Inc. is a medium sized corporation. It has over 100
employees organized in five department including Marketing, Finance, Information
Systems, Operations, and Legal Affairs. Apollo is a distributor of a technologically
superior athletic product. Siren, Spotlight and Speakershoe are Apollo s premiere
brands. Their products are shipped to large and small retailers across a six state area.
INDUSTRY This year was difficult for all businesses. Due to conflicts in foreign
countries and uncertainty with the Federal Reserve s adjustments of interest rates,
consumer confidence has been greatly affected. Fewer consumers are buying Apollo
Shoe s state of the art athletic equipment. All of their operating divisions were
severely tested and sales were not as strong as anticipated. PREDECESSOR
AUDITOR Apollo Shoe s management declined our request to communicate with the
predecessor auditor. The prior auditors, Smith Smith, CPAs, unexpectedly withdrew
from their engagement with Apollo Shoes Inc, and a lawsuit was filed shortly
thereafter. The authority to speak with the client s predecessor auditor would have
been a great source of reliable information concerning the client, and their refusal to
allow communication is grounds for a heightened risk assessment. RISK
ASSESSMENT Internal Control: The Apollo Shoe s management has not kept its
business manual up to date. Several issues, such as classifying sales and
authorization, have not been outlined in
United States Prisons And Prisons
With my last name starting with a W I had the option of choosing between four
different chapters. Chapter 5 the Court System, Chapter 6 Jails and Prisons,
Chapter 7 Probation and Parole, and Chapter 8 the Juvenile Justices System. This
being a hard choice to narrow these four topics down to one I have decided to
discuss Chapter 6 Jails and Prisons. Jails and Prisons Jails and Prisons have no
discrimination at all. You have all different kinds of people locked up behind bars
different race, gender, beliefs, etc. They were first intended for incarcerationof
prisoners in Colonial America and the United States was local jails, which served
primarily for detention prior to trial or execution rather than for punishment or
rehabilitation of the criminal like now a days. After doing a little bit of research I
believe the oldest penitentiary in the United States dates back to 1829, the Eastern
State Penitentiaryalso known as ESP. Located in Fairmount, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania Eastern State Penitentiary was opened on October 25, 1829 by John
Haviland covering over 11 acres. During that time ESP held notorious criminals
such as Willie Sutton and Al Capon. The building was the largest and most
expensive public structure ever erected and became a model for more than 300
prisons worldwide (Rowan 2010). During that time period the warden was required
to visit each inmate every day and the overseers were required to visit the inmates
three times a day known as the Pennsylvania

Appeal to Aesthetics in Death in Venice Essay
In the late 19th century decadence was a tremendously popular theme in European
literature. In addition, the degeneracy of the individual and society at large was
represented in numerous contemporary works by Mann. In Death in Venice, the
theme of decadence caused by aestheticism appears through Gustav von Achenbach s
eccentric, specifically homoerotic, feelings towards a Polish boy named Tadzio.
Although his feelings spring from a sound source, the boy s aesthetic beauty,
Aschenbach becomes decadent in how excessively zealous his feelings are, and his
obsession ultimately leads to his literal and existential destruction. This exemplifies
how aestheticism is closely related to, and indeed often the cause of decadence.
Although the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sets up the binary opposition between Munich and Venice, self control and the
slavery of the self to depraved passion. One of the ways in which Mann establishes
his novel as the literary landscape for decadent and aesthetic writing is through the
language he appropriates in describing each city. There lacks a sense of elegance
with Mann s description of aspects concerning Germany and a typical Aschenbach.
This can be contrasted with the eloquent description given to Venice, He saw it once
more, that landing place that takes the breath away, that amazing group of incredible
structures the Republic set up to meet the awe struck eye of the approaching
seafarer: the airy splendor of the palace and Bridge of Sighs. The obvious pleasure
that Aschenbach feels as a result of the aesthetically pleasing city foreshadows how
aestheticism will ultimately lead to his death and decay, important ideas within the
context of decadence.
Naomi Ritters points out that the city is then infected by this grimy disease, this
disease goes on the kill many throughout the city. The disgusting sickness highlights
the darkness of the city and paradoxically diverges from the visual beauty of the city.
Ritters calls this an apt oxymoron in the context of aestheticism and decadence a
terrible beauty a danger concealed by
The Importance Of Reading In Education
The United States is increasingly becoming a nation of nonreaders. In 2013, it was
reported that 32 million adults, 14 percent of our population, could not read. Twenty
one percent of the adults that same year read below a fifth grade level. Additionally,
nineteen percent of the high school graduates could not read (Maddie Crum. The
U.S. Illiteracy Rate Hasn t Changed In 10 Years. The Huffington Post). This is
alarming in a wealthy country like the United States. Our society will suffer from
illiteracy in socioeconomic issues if we continue to abandon readingin future years. If
we continue to neglect reading as a nation the literacyrate of children will decrease.
Due to many parents having reading difficulties themselves, they do not read to
their kids at a young age. Often these parents do not encourage reading. According
to the U.S Department of Education, when there is a low amount of parent support
at home the classroom reading score is below the national average by 46 points.
When there is a high amount of parental support at home the classroom reading
score is above the national average by 28 points (NEA Facts about Children s
Literacy ). Children with low parental support come to school behind their
classmates who experienced reading at a young age. When parents read to their
children they learn early reading skills, such as reading from left to right, the
meaning of words, and it increases their vocabulary. Children who come to school
already behind

  • 2. Biography of the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury The Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury was pre eminently a figure of Victorian England, and therefore needs to be understood within the historical context of his times. This includes what is, perhaps, the most salient motivating factor in Shaftesbury s great accomplishments in social reform and philanthropy his religion. Christianityin Victorian England was, above all else, Christianity in crisis. Those with a shallow sense of history will generally point to the publication of Darwin s Origin of Species in 1859 as if that were enough to sum up the crisis of Christianity in this time period but in reality there were massive social changes taking place in England during this time. After all, it was before Darwin that the Victorian poet and social critic Matthew Arnold wrote his famous poetic complaint about the decline of belief in England, Dover Beach : The Sea of Faith Was once, too, at the full, and round earth s shore Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furl d. But now I only hear Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar... (Arnold 214) In Shaftesbury s lifetime, Christianity s social message was particularly endangered. The Industrial Revolution had begun in the period immediately preceding the Victorian era, and continued with remorseless rapidity throughout the Victorian period: this had led to massive inequalities of wealth, combined with the total erosion of traditional ways of life in the rural period, causing the displaced poor to move to cities. Shaftesbury s
  • 3. Methane Hydrates. Everyone Who Does Not Live Under A Rock Methane Hydrates Everyone who does not live under a rock enjoys their heating and energy supply that charges their computers and keeps them toasty in the winter. Nearly one hundred percent of the time, an individual using such resources will neglect to take note of where they come from. Many a time this energy comes from natural gas (methane hydrates), which have special properties like all chemicals that can make them bad for the environment, and lead to consequences for the future. Since America industrialized, most of our energy reserves comes from nonrenewable, carbon based resources. Currently, The United States uses approximately 26.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas (How). The main component of natural gas is of course methane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, if you do get the methane out into a usable form, a person could use it to heat their house by combusting methane. When methane undergoes a reaction with oxygen (burning), the covalent bonds around the central carbon atom break, transforming into heat energy. In the process though carbon also bonds with oxygen gas creating carbon dioxide (CO2). The leftover hydrogen atoms then bond with more oxygen and form more water. This of course results in a gaseous form of carbon dioxide and water. In the end the process is termed exothermic due to it releasing heat into the surrounding area. The products of this reaction will go to completion as shown below. As the products leak out and are stuck in the atmosphere, the heat energy that water takes with it is transferred to the carbon dioxide due to the second law of thermodynamics, which states Entropy always increases (Tro). Due to this the atmosphere increases in temperature due to the heat capacity of the carbon dioxide. This is how global warming works. However, the heat taken in by water is quickly lost from the atmosphere due to rainfall. On the side of the carbon dioxide not so much. The water cycle that everyone learned in grade school can take a couple days or more. Sadly enough, the carbon cycle can take one hundred to two hundred million years to complete. Carbon dioxide created from methane can also be absorbed by water. When

The color red represents nonconformity, standing out or being unique This is because of the narrator s unwillingness to be a unique girl. However, the color blue represents conformity, being able to blend in with society, and the ability to be like everyone else due to the narrator s lack of courage to be unique and to be herself. Both of these colors point out different aspects of the narrator s inner self and show how much she desires to hide her unique redself and appear blue. Mulholland also said My personal experience also suggest atheism fails as a religion. Jim was once an atheists and did not give the group he was in a chance to give him more information on why they all believed that atheism is a religion. Mulholland went to the Sunday Assembly that Sanderson Jones was in charge of. Mulholland stated that the church members would gather to sing, meditate, and hear a speech. Mulholland decided to research and make a statement that atheism is not a religion after he once was an atheists. Mulholland also states, I lost it. Becoming atheist was not like divorcing one person and marrying another. It was like the death of a spouse. It was not something I chose or initially welcomed. It was frightening and lonely. Mulholland was stating that becoming atheist was easy for him, he felt as no one was supporting him and he was alone throughout this new journey. When Mulholland says I lost it he could be saying that his mindset changed and the way he viewed the world and other people s lives could be different than what he s used to

  • 11. Social Media Child Development I m sure all have heard the aged African proverb, It takes a village to raise a child. The upbringing of a youth is a very imperative time. What is learned during the development stages of life is stored in the brain for future experiences, so that they know which decisions to make. Parents, alone, have wisdom that can be shared with their children, but different interactions within a community have a huge effect on the outcome of a childs overall development. In today s society, family bonds are not as strong as they once were. We, as a nation have moved further and further into technological advancement, and that is where most of out leisure time is directed towards. The village around a child is whatever he/she is exposed to on a regular basis; and, being that social media has become more and more popular around the world, it is believed that it, in itself, is that very village . She was peculiar in many ways due to the fact that her community was not in favor of her family; and even the concept of family was incomplete. She did not have her father. For a while, no one in her community stepped in to even act as a father figure for her, which had negative effects on the growth of little Pearl. She would ve had a more joyful, normal childhood (and adulthood) had someone from her village stepped in, as her mother alone was not

  • 16. Body Cams Research Paper A current topic of debate in the field crime enforcement is the use of officer mounted body cams. There are multiple arguments for and against the implementation of this type of technology which makes the authorization for use a tough decision for officials. Proponents of the use of bodycams argue that if both the officer and suspects know that their actions are being recorded, then they will control their behavior as to not incriminate themselves. On the other side, opponents argue that policeofficers may be hesitant to take the necessary steps in some cases for fear of being reprimanded for their actions. • 17. A Comparison Of All Quiet On The Western Front All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and actual happenings from the war display many similarities. The book does go much more in depth with the war than any other resource or letter, but there is similarities in everything in the book to any other info about World War 1. Looking from All Quiet on the Western Frontto actual happenings in the war you can bring them together and see the similarities in living as a soldier in the trenches, and how the men passed time during World War 1. Life for a soldier in the trenches in WW1 as described in actual letters and as described as in the book sounded very alike. In the book it talks about the human eating rats, trench foot and leaving the dead bodies lying on the ground just for something dry to walk on. Killing each separate louse is a tedious business when a man has hundreds. The little beasts are hard and the everlasting cracking with one s fingernails very soon becomes wearisome. (Remarque, 1929, p. 75) This is an example in the book that can be connected to real life is when Paul and all the other men are sitting around the fire picking lice out and burning them in a tin. Since then we have learned better than to be shy about such trifling immodesties. (Remarque, 1929 p. 8) In that sentence Paul is discussing the toilets, or latrines, saying how when he first started using the them they were nasty and it was embarrassing, but now he s comfortable with using them. I cannot bear to look at his hands, they are like wax. Under the nails is the dirt of the trenches, it shows through blue black like poison. (Remarque, 1929, p. 15) Paul describes the trench mud as poison, because it is. It caused men to lose limbs, feet and sometimes their lives because it caused gangrene. The rats here are particularly repulsive they are so fat the kind we call corpse rats. (Remarque, 1929, p. 102) The trenches could be very muddy and smelly. • 19. Blackberry Picking Seamus Heaney Analysis In Blackberry Picking, Seamus Heaney isn t just retelling an experience. He masterfully weaves in a hidden lesson that becomes clear as the reader nears the end of the poem. His description of picking blackberries is in itself a metaphor of one s childhood memories and their perception at the time. He utilizes literary devices such as imagery, allusions and narrative point of view to set the mood, change the tone and draw in his readers. Mr. Heaney also structures his poem into two different sections, with each telling the story in a different tone with a different purpose behind it. However, what s more impressive is his use of intense diction to layer the poem with emotion and imagery that services his hidden message. Seamus Heaney begins the poem by placing a time stamp on it. It begins in Late August a time for harvest which lays the groundwork for the harvesting that will ensue in terms of setting. That description places the reader in the right mood and mindset that Mr. Heaney builds on with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While his language is intense it s never forceful, it s filled with passion but in a violent manner. He conveys his experience in a romanticized manner like when he mentioned the blackberry s flesh was sweet like thickened wine (5 6). However, he slowly moves away from the romanticized language and into a more natural language. While his intense language doesn t fade, it changes along with the tone as the poem transitions into the moral section. It changes in terms of its purpose. In the beginning, it sets an image that would guide the reader along while in the end it more used to invoke
  • 20. Staple Comparison Essay Long term debt to equity is very similar to debt to equity, but it reveals an important characteristic of the company s debt make up, that is how much of it is long term. This is important because long term debt means long term interest payments, and generally involves larger principles. This can mean greater leverage, but it also indicates greater risk. Many banks are wary of companies that hold too much debt, and especially the companies that hold too many long term debt obligations. Another downside from this perspective is that higher perceived risks by creditors generally can lead to increased interest rate, making this debt even more expensive. Staples hold only about one quarter of the long term debt in relation to equity compared to Office Depot or Amazon. This gives Staples several advantages because the firm is likely to be perceived as less risky. It will likely still be easy for Staples to find financing for expansion or operations than for its major competitor. This is due not only to its holding less long term debt in relation to equity, but also because Staples remains a profitable company... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a good sign in that the company has always been able to meet its debt obligations, even in years where it could not ultimately provide a return to its shareholders. This makes Office Depot a far riskier investment for any creditor that Staples, and a risky investment in general. As with long term debt to equity above, this would place Staples in a far better position than its main competitor to obtain funds to expand. Staples has only in FY 2015 fallen behind Amazon again, but with both companies maintaining positive ratios, this is not necessarily bad news for

The Christmas Holiday From The Federal Calendar Omitting the Christmas Holiday from the Federal Calendar The establishment of a legal holiday is best defined as a day where there are no courts, labor, and is a day of joy and rest. While there should be a separation of church and state, Christmas is considered a legal holiday and one needs to question the validity of establishing this day as a legal holiday when one looks at the concept of separation of church and state and considering the diversity we face in today s modern society. Christmas in in fact defined as a Holyday. This should not be considered a legal holiday due to the fact that it is Christian based and we do not have legal holidays that recognize other religions. The United States does not have a recognized national religion, so Christmas should be separated from legally recognized holidays. In the American Law Register the opening paragraph gives an interesting point of view on this matter. Notwithstanding the distinction drawn by the great American Lexicographer, between a holiday and a holy day, where by the latter should be used as the proper term for a religious festival, while the former should rather denote a day of exemption for labor and of amusement, joy and gaiety, the common impression seems to liken both the holiday and the holyday to the great weekly day of rest and legal inaction? Geoffrey Moore, author and consultant. Introduction Business intelligence and analytics (BIA), a term coined in 1989, has gained much reaction in the IT practitioner community and academia over the past two decades. BIA refers to: (1) the technologies, systems, practices, and applications that (2) analyze critical business data to (3) help an enterprise better understand its business and market (research paper). Traditionally, business intelligence (BI) has been used as an umbrella term to describe the concepts and methods to improve business decision making by using fact based decision support systems. BI also includes the underlying architectures, tools, databases, applications, and methodologies. BI s major objectives are to enable interactive and easy access to diverse data, enable manipulation and transformation of these data, and provide business managers and analysts the ability to conduct appropriate analyses and perform the actions [Turban et al. 2008; Wixom et al. 2011]. Successful BI initiatives have been reported for major industries, from healthcare and airlines, to major IT and telecommunication firms [Anderson Lehman et al. 2004; Carte et al. 2005; Turban et al. 2008]. As a datacentric approach, BI heavily relies on the various advanced data collection, extraction, and analysis technologies [Turban et al.

Looking at the financial statements we feel that you could improve your cash flows by buying the appropriate amount of inventory. Although you are expected to continually grow, we feel that if you purchased inventory in proportion to the growth that your company expects, it would improve your inventory turnover rate. Doing this would help you be more profitable. Another area of concern for us is your collections policy. We feel that if you enforced a more strict collections policy that it would improve other areas of your finances. By the looks of it, it appears that the lack of enforcement has deducted your available cash which has forced an inhibition of payment during the discount period on your credit line. • 42. New England Vs Chesapeake Colonies Although both the New England and the Chesapeake region colonies, which were located in Maryland, Virginia. Had been settled and ruled by the English, in the year 1700 the colonies had evolved into two very separate distinct societies. The first major cause of this differentiation lays in the very first reasons in which the founding of the two region s colonies were originally discussed and planned. For example in 1607 the London Company of Virginia, which is a joint stock company, had been formed to settle in the Virginia area colonyfull of Englishmen. However the Company wanted this colony solely for economic gain for the mother country itself. As the (Document F), Captain Smith s history of Virginia, shows the first colonists spent a majority of their time searching for gold like the in Spanish windfall instead of planting crops. As a result, half of the colony died of starvation and malnutrition. Only Capt. Smith s assumption of dictatorial power and his use of draconian measures prevented the colony from collapsing completely, which was the saving grace. In contrast to the mercenary nature of Virginia, New England was founded out of altruistic and religious reasons. The Separatists, and later the Puritans who arrived in 1630, came primarily so that they might practice their religion as they wished, free of royal interference. As John Winthrop wrote, the settlers saw their colony as a noble experiment, a city upon a hill which was being watched by

The 30% return on investment for 2011 shows that the company has been successful and is in a good place financially for expansion. Another strength is that the sandwich and beverage shops do not require a large lease in order to be successful. Being able to lease land that is unsuitable for most commercial purposes gives the company a competitive advantage when negotiating leases and would continue to be a strength in the large scale expansion. A weakness in the large scale expansion of the Sandwich Blitz shops is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of a recent economic downturn, there may be an opportunity to negotiate new lease opportunities at even better rates. Also, franchising the Sandwich Blitz shops seems like a great opportunity for expansion beyond Dalman and Lei s current large metropolitan area. This would require training upfront on Dalman s part to insure the same quality and consistency in the food preparation. However, once the franchisees shops were established, there would be less time Dalman and Lei for any specific issues, as the franchisee would be responsible.Dalman and Lei can participate in the profitability of these franchises without the same level of management that is currently required. This opportunity would also potentially be less risk for the company as a large amount of capital would not be required in the expansion. One threat for the Sandwich Blitz, Inc. is the economic downturn that has negatively affected the occupancy in the office parks where half of the shops currently exist. The lower traffic in these areas may affect the profitability going forward and affect the cash flow in the midst of the large scale expansion. Also, the two new franchise operations that offer similar food and beverages and may enter the area soon are threats to the potential success of a large scale

The concept of the play came about while she was reminiscing about the Hossack s murder case. Glaspell created five central characters to bring the play to life on stage who are George Henderson¬¬ county attorney, Henry Peters sheriff, Lewis Hale a neighboring farmer, Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Hale. A terse overview of the playincludes Mr. Hale visiting the Wright s farmhouse to preferably speak with Mr. Wright; unfortunately, Mr. Wright was strangled to death by a rope. Mrs. Wright claims she does not know what occurred in their home due to her heavy sleeping. However, the central characters segregate by genderto formulate a resolution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wright is in jail. During the time period of the play, women rights were oppressed and the only option they had to earn an identity in the patriarchal society was by becoming a wife. Men were the superior and self assertive beings while women were inferior to them and timid. Women depended on men to provide for them even if they were miserable during the early twentieth century. Men would work the farm during the day while women tended to the housework. From my perspective, Mrs. Wright murdered her husband because she wanted an escape from the pain and isolation in her marriage. According to Mrs. Hale, I wonder how it would seem never to have had any children around. No, Wright wouldn t like the bird a thing that sang. She used to sing. He killed that, too (1613). This implies that Mr. Wright killed Mrs. Wright s bird as he did her aspirations. Therefore, Mrs. Wright s anger built up in her over the years and it finally erupted causing her to strangle her husband as he did her one prized possession who kept her company. The bird represented Mrs. Wright because it was locked up in the birdcage just as Mrs. Wright was isolated from the world in her marriage. Her only escape from the horror was
  • 45. Different Types Of MRSA MRSA stands for Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and is a bacteria that causes infectious open wounds on the skin. MRSA is particularly dangerous because it is resistant to most types of antibiotics, and is easily transmittable throughout the general public. There are two types of MRSA: HA MRSA: which is healthcare associated MRSA; and CA MRSA: which is community associated MRSA. The signs, symptoms, and treatment are all similar between the two different types of MRSA ( MRSA Overview, 1995). While resistant to most antibiotics, there are treatment options, however, prevention is the most important step. Staphylococcus aureus is a specific type of staph bacteria that causes a range of infections, such as infection of an open ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the infected wound is mild and has not infected the internal body, antibiotics may not be needed. The treatment will only include the wound being cut and drained. If the infection is more severe and antibiotics are needed, there are newer types the can be used. MRSA has been shown to respond well to drugs such as vancomycin, ceftaroline, and daptomycin. Rarely, a MRSA infection has been shown to become resistant to vancomycin, and progresses to diseases termed VRSA. If this happens, a combination of antibiotics will be used. The treatment plan can be more successful if a material sample is obtained, as the culture can be tested to see which antibiotics it will respond to. The antibiotics course needs to be completed in full, even if symptoms disappear. If the course is not completed and the MRSA bacteria is still in the body, the infection is come back and become resistant to the antibiotics originally used. This is how MRSA becomes more dangerous and less susceptible to more and more antibiotics throughout time. The prognosis of patients infected with MRSA ranges and depends on the severity of the infection. If the infection was mild, patients almost always recover full and obtain 100% of their health back. For infections that advance to deeper infections, for patients that were infected with H MRSA, or for patients that have other health complications such as diabetes, the prognosis is not as positive. • 46. Research On The Financial Performance Of The English... This dissertation was written to examine whether the financial performance of the English Premier League and the sampled clubs improved after UEFA introduced their Financial Fair Play regulations. This led to the comparison of the results for the league in general and individual clubs over a ten year period (2004 2015). This ten year period was broken down into two parts: FFP1 which represented years prior to the Financial Fair Play introduction (2004 2009) and FFP2 representing post Financial Fair Play years (2010 2015). The previous chapter discussed each hypothesis and provided the results achieved. Collectively, two out of the six clubs had experienced an increase in profitability, whether it was a reduction in losses when comparing both periods or an increase in profits. This meant that the clubs relevant turnovers exceeded their expenses. For example, only Chelsea and Tottenham both recorded improvements in their profitability with Chelsea having the highest loss reduction percentage of 70%.; whereas the other four clubs did not improve their profitability over this period. Although Arsenal maintained profits throughout the FFP2 period averaging ВЈ22.1 million a year, it still managed to gain a decrease in profits. These results may seem befuddling as Arsenal were the only club not to make any losses during the 10 year period. Overall, the results show that although the Premier league increased its profitability, the collective sampled club s results differed. The losses in the FFP1 period collectively totalled ВЈ371 million; whereas the losses in the FFP2 period collectively totalled ВЈ461 million. For there to be an improvement of profitability, the cumulative losses in FFP1 must be greater than the cumulative losses in the FFP2 period. This suggests profitability decreased after the introduction of Financial Fair Play. However, the story differs with individual clubs as they all reacted differently. 5.2 Hypothesis 2 The second hypothesis of this dissertation implied that the

After doing a little bit of research I believe the oldest penitentiary in the United States dates back to 1829, the Eastern State Penitentiaryalso known as ESP. Located in Fairmount, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Eastern State Penitentiary was opened on October 25, 1829 by John Haviland covering over 11 acres. During that time ESP held notorious criminals such as Willie Sutton and Al Capon. The building was the largest and most expensive public structure ever erected and became a model for more than 300 prisons worldwide (Rowan 2010). During that time period the warden was required to visit each inmate every day and the overseers were required to visit the inmates three times a day known as the Pennsylvania

In addition, the degeneracy of the individual and society at large was represented in numerous contemporary works by Mann. In Death in Venice, the theme of decadence caused by aestheticism appears through Gustav von Achenbach s eccentric, specifically homoerotic, feelings towards a Polish boy named Tadzio. Although his feelings spring from a sound source, the boy s aesthetic beauty, Aschenbach becomes decadent in how excessively zealous his feelings are, and his obsession ultimately leads to his literal and existential destruction. This exemplifies how aestheticism is closely related to, and indeed often the cause of decadence. Although the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This sets up the binary opposition between Munich and Venice, self control and the slavery of the self to depraved passion. One of the ways in which Mann establishes his novel as the literary landscape for decadent and aesthetic writing is through the language he appropriates in describing each city. There lacks a sense of elegance with Mann s description of aspects concerning Germany and a typical Aschenbach. This can be contrasted with the eloquent description given to Venice, He saw it once more, that landing place that takes the breath away, that amazing group of incredible structures the Republic set up to meet the awe struck eye of the approaching seafarer: the airy splendor of the palace and Bridge of Sighs. The obvious pleasure that Aschenbach feels as a result of the aesthetically pleasing city foreshadows how aestheticism will ultimately lead to his death and decay, important ideas within the context of decadence. Naomi Ritters points out that the city is then infected by this grimy disease, this disease goes on the kill many throughout the city. The disgusting sickness highlights the darkness of the city and paradoxically diverges from the visual beauty of the city. Ritters calls this an apt oxymoron in the context of aestheticism and decadence a terrible beauty a danger concealed by
  • 53. The Importance Of Reading In Education The United States is increasingly becoming a nation of nonreaders. In 2013, it was reported that 32 million adults, 14 percent of our population, could not read. Twenty one percent of the adults that same year read below a fifth grade level. Additionally, nineteen percent of the high school graduates could not read (Maddie Crum. The U.S. Illiteracy Rate Hasn t Changed In 10 Years. The Huffington Post). This is alarming in a wealthy country like the United States. Our society will suffer from illiteracy in socioeconomic issues if we continue to abandon readingin future years. If we continue to neglect reading as a nation the literacyrate of children will decrease. Due to many parents having reading difficulties themselves, they do not read to their kids at a young age. Often these parents do not encourage reading. According to the U.S Department of Education, when there is a low amount of parent support at home the classroom reading score is below the national average by 46 points. When there is a high amount of parental support at home the classroom reading score is above the national average by 28 points (NEA Facts about Children s Literacy ). Children with low parental support come to school behind their classmates who experienced reading at a young age. When parents read to their children they learn early reading skills, such as reading from left to right, the meaning of words, and it increases their vocabulary. Children who come to school already behind
