The First Golden Age Of Television
Sixth Response
In the first golden age, there was no gold. In fact, there was no color, only black
and white. The first golden age of television occurred in the nineteen fifties and the
gold was quite humble on the surface. Because the shows were about local police,
cowboys and housewives. However, these wholesome programs acted like an awl,
digging deep into the national psyche, bringing out something truly valuable and
sought after by everyone. These shows exemplified the feelings of a nation and
gave everyone a model to follow and a dream to chase. There are many who say that
the turn of the century marked the second golden age of television. This carries into
the present day, with television drama and streaming services allowing an ... Show

Bezzerides holds her own in a male dominated police force. Most of her early
interactions with males puts her on top, dominating males at their own perceived
games of strength, coldness and tact. Examples of this include an early meeting
with her father where tells her father he failed her, engaging in casual sex and
refusing to accept emotional advances from anyone. Later during the show,
Bezzerides goes undercover at a sex party to find evidence towards who killed the
corrupt city official. During the process of being groomed to enter, she is forced to
ingest MDMA. A repressed childhood memory surfaces during advances by an older
male. It is a bearded face of a man, who stayed at her father s spiritual retreat when
she was a child. This man called her pretty and lured in into his VW van to proceed
to sexually abused her for two days in a cave. It is here that the Freudian personality
themes emerge In Bezzerides interactions. Shortly after escaping the party,
Bezzerides makes love to another protagonist, after which she is further able to
explore the repressed memory. Recalling that she felt proud that her abuser thought
she was pretty. Her anger at the male aggressor and her father was repressed
because it was damaging to her ego. In effort to protect herself the sexual feelings
and aggression were displaced and sublimated though working a dominating career.
The defense of identifying with the aggressor is also present in

Drovers, people who herd large groups of cattle, heading up the Chisholm Trail
toward the railroads the final stop for any last minute supplies was Fort Worth,
Texas. Beyond that you d cross the Red River and into Indian Territory. During the
years of 1866 and 1890, drovers herded over four million head of cattle through Fort
Worth. The city soon became known as Cowtown. As the railroad arrived in 1876,
Fort Worth developed into a shipping port for livestock, so the city built up the Union
Stockyards. Despite the Union Stockyards lacking the essential funding to buy

The northern and southern site would be given to either company and decided by
a coin toss. In the end, Armour won the coin toss and chose the northern site;
construction began in 1902. As for the Swift Co. the southern site had a large

abundance of gravel they even sold some of the gravel Armour at the northern site.

Vaccination Of Measles, Mumps And Rubella ( Mmr )
The medical establishment has a number of tools to deal with contagious diseases;
one of the most efficient instruments to address contagious diseases such as measles
and others are chart of vaccination. Vaccination is one of the key strategies that
modern medicine has to deal with. It is one of the tools that medicines used to
prevent the spread of diseases in vulnerable population particularly children and aged.
It has been estimated that 5.9 million deaths are avoided annually through
immunisation. A polio vaccinewas the first vaccine to be introduced by 1950s, and
many others have been developed since then. Despite the success of these
programmes, there are objection to vaccinationby stakeholders based on

There are a number of developing countries managing to eliminate preventable
infectious diseases (McDonald, Halperin, Chaple, Scott and Kirk 2006). Cuba is a
small and poor country that has been able to achieve remarkable success over the
years in their health sector. The country immunisation program has been a success
compared to the developed countries. The country has lower infant mortality rates
than United States, which uses a large budget on health. This is an experience that
has showed that use of a lot of money in health care does not always translate to
better health. USA has been experiencing high rates of objections to vaccination
compared to Cuba. McDonald et al. (2006), asserts that over 95% of the Cuban
children have been immunised against 13 preventable diseases which are a
significant rate than in most developed countries. There has been a disappearance of
measles, rubella and mumps due to the country comprehensive immunisation
program. The elimination of the three diseases has been a remarkable feat for Cuba
as it has limited resources. According to McDonald et al. (2006), the country won the
Gates Award for Global health in 2001 due to their National Immunisation Program.
On the whole, vaccination has been a great success in Cuba.
There is increased elimination of immunisation preventable disease by vaccination in
developed countries. The successful elimination of these illnesses in United States

How Did Erasmus Use Folly to Criticize the Catholic Church
How did Erasmus use Folly to criticize the Catholic Church of his Day? It may
seem odd or different to admire and acclaim Folly, but there is a definite benefit to
foolishness: the freedom to tell only factual information. In Praise of Folly,
Erasmus put this independence to good use in repeating to the readers, a
civilization significantly besmirched by mature worries, that a person is unable to
serve both God and Mammon. He leveled over his irony by promising us that there
is merit in being attacked by Folly (7), and closed with the recap that it s Folly and
a woman who s been speaking (134), a renunciation that permitted him to be as brutal
as he desired to be in his condemnation. He definitely found necessity for severity,...

The Writer s Duty In William Faulkner s Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he speaks
about the true purpose of writing and the importance of genuinely putting your heart
into your work. He discusses how the only way writing can truly be valuable is if the
author is dedicated to showing the authentic love the human spirit holds and what that
love is capable of accomplishing. A good piece of writingwill show both strength and
vulnerability and will not be written for fame or recognition. It will be written for the
sake of creating and spreading a message that is important to the author. In their
memoirs, An American Childhood and The Road from Coorain, Annie Dillardand Jill
Ker Conway, both feel very strongly about their purpose for writing. Conway tends
to express her reasons for writing explicitly, while Dillard chooses to do it more
implicitly.
In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, she clearly demonstrates the
meaning of the novel in one passage that reads, Children wake up and find
themselves here, discover themselves to have been here all along; is this sad?
They wake like sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people brought back
from cardiac arrest or from drowning: in medias res, surrounded by familiar people
and objects, equipped with a hundred skills. They know the neighborhood, they can
read and write English, they are old hands at the commonplace mysteries, and yet
they feel themselves to have just
Historical Context Of Oppression
Introduction Growing up in America it seem that success was described in a way
that was very obtainable for everyone to reach as long as you worked hard and got
an education. Now assessing life and some of the experiences I have had, I don t
remember anyone explaining that white privilege had that exception. With a
social worker perspective it helps me understand that different cultural group are
associated with being vulnerable because of cultural norms in diverse ethnicities
of individuals. Identifying as an African American woman has many life risk
factors associated with those identities. One example that I have had personal
experience with was racism. While striving to become a better person and working
to obtain my bachelors degree in Social Work, I took notice to how the residents of
the rural environment were uncomfortable with my identity s being African
American and woman. I often got racially profiled by police and even was called
hurtful names by residents due to the color of my skin and stereotypes. In further
support of my experiences Draut (2017) acknowledges that hierarchies continue to
marginalize black people, women and immigrants. As a Social Worker it is a part of
our duty to Ethics to encourage dialogue and provide education on stereotypical
biases to begin to see change in the way that diverse groups are viewed and treated.
Historical Context of Oppression Overtimes throughout historical evidence people

the Navajo or Intuits, traditions and past history of thier culture are passed down
by story telling. History is written or rewritten by the winners. However, things can
get warped if told, retold without a strong concern by the wrong people. There are
many different variations of the same story. Like Cinderella, there are a lot of

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities In The Mad...
Joining an extracurricular activity is either a burden or an honor depending on the
student. Imagine being put into an extracurricular activity where you have to learn
many different dances because you will be competing with other schools for the
championship, keep in mind you are dancing with students that you efficiently have
never known. And the worst part, according to the students, girls dancing with boys
and vice versa. Anaheim schools can increase students success by providing free
extracurricular activities that grant them to experience new things that they have
never been through before because it changes their view on things they hadn t even
been given the chance to try or see. As well as providing every student with the
materials that are necessary so that even low income students can get the opportunity
to try them. In the film documentary Mad Hot Ballroom, directed by Marilyn Agrelo,
students are given the opportunity to dance and compete with other schools, while
teams are getting eliminated throughout the competition until they reach the
championship. It s not bad not to make it (Agrelo). This was said from one of the
men in the meeting before the competition. He had mentioned that most of the time
the children are brought down because they eliminated and they do make it. But they
have to look at the bright side, the thing that matters is that they tried and not making
it in the competition doesn t mean they are not good at dancing, but they can make
Opposition to Prescribed Burns Essay
Opposition to Prescribed Burns
Forest fires kill many animals and usually destroy a large amount of land.
Prescribed burns seem like they would be the best idea, but are they? Their claim
to fame is to clear out land in order to decrease the burning space for when an actual
forest fire occurs. Yet this may seem like a brilliant idea, but one must look at the
negative aspects of controlled burnings. People might have a change of heart when
they realize the damages and effects of such an interesting act. Keep in mind that not
only is your health involved but even such things as the inconvenience of dealing
with a smoky town. It is important to understand that prescribed burns cause severe
health problems especially to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much like the firefighters in 911 (figure 1); many people would say that a firefighter
s health is very important. Life is a precious thing and before we sit around and let
controlled burnings take control, we should protect the lives of those who protect us.
Figure SEQ Figure * ARABIC 1 (Firefighters at a 911 memorial)
Although health is a major issue, you must keep in mind that visibility is very
important, especially if you have to drive through the thick smoke on a major
highway. Loss of sight during a burn usually occurs during high peak exposures
(Reinhardt 35). It is hard for firefighters to concentrate on their work because the
smoke decreases their visibility so much (Reinhardt 34). Besides the danger of not
being able to see while driving and a firefighter not being able to see what he is
doing, it is also a negative to not be able to enjoy the beautiful nature around us
when we are outside. The smoke may not last long, but it is hard to go on with day
to day lives dealing with breathing let alone looking through the smoke each day.
Smoke could irritate eyes for a long period of time and might possibly lead to long
term damage (Reinhardt 34).
The last, but yet most important aspect one must look at is the fact that your long
term health could be affected by smoke damage from the burns. The top five
components of potential health hazards are: acrolein, benzene, carbon monoxide,
Analysis Of Richard Rodriguez s Hunger Of Memory
An autobiography is completely unlike any other type of writing, and it is this
style of book that author Richard Rodriguez bravely chose to use in Hunger of
Memory. Essentially, an autobiography is a book documenting someone s life; full
of their heartbeat and heartaches. Its raw authenticity is so refreshing in
comparison to complex literary texts full of hidden metaphors and complicated
symbolism. Through this sort of writing, Rodriguez provides an authentic, honest
account of his life while detailing how race played a role in it. In order to
accomplish this, he examines specific aspects of his life and reveals how his culture
and skin color affected these areas. Throughout the text it is obvious that the
consequences of race are involved in every single part of people s lives, specifically
education, as revealed through the hidden curriculum, language, and religion involved
in the classroom. Schools are supposed to teach academic material, but they also
teach students how to function in society and fit in with the culture. In a sense, the
classroom becomes a sort of miniature community as the educator and students
function in a way that reflects the real world outside of classroom doors. Based upon
this idea that schools resemble actual society, researchers have drawn direct links
between the quality of a schools climate and its educational outcomes (Jerald). This
phenomenon is called the hidden curriculum and refers to a range of things (attitudes,

The Impact of Groups Such as The Beatles on the Nineteen Sixties
Groups such as the Beatles effected British society in many ways in the period of
the 1960 s. The course of the Beatles came in 3 distinct phases between 1962 and
1968.
The Beatles were an all male quartet from the North West working class city of
Liverpool. John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and Paul McCartney would set
about changing popular music forever.
The Beatles had many musical influences ranging from Elvis Pressley to Chuck
Berry. There performances were famed for being long and amazing on some
occasions it was known that they continued to play non stop for 8 hours.

with arguably two of the greatest song writers ever known.
They also appeared on the scene in the UK at just the right time, television was just
launching to a mass audience and that made it possible for the publicity that the
lads required to become all the more easier to create. This was an advantage on any
bands before them because now, people in places away from Liverpool where they
were based could see what they were like and enjoy their music.
The music that Lennon and McCartney were writing in the years between 62 and 64
was inclusive to all section of British society. Nobody would feel left out by the
topics that they sung about or the style in which they sang them.
Also emerging at a similar time were a group known as The Rolling Stones who s
first number one hit was written by Lennon and McCartney, had the pair not wrote
this for them and gave them the early push they needed it is possible that we would
never have heard of the likes of Mick Jagger.
The Beatles caused many parts of British society to begin to change, they literally
changed both the style and image of popular music. They were seen as both the
catalyst and the innovators.
The first thing the group did was to make it cool to be a British working class person

Tamilnadu Power Crisis Reason
Abstract : In this paper, I have made an attempt to study the present power situation
in Tamil Nadu, a state that has attracted plenty of FDI in power critical industries.
Presently, the environment is conducive for big companies to invest in Tamil Nadu.
However, there are many challenges to ensure that the requirements are met both for
domestic and industrial application. The study examines the current scenario and
provides detailed inputs on the various means for providing power. Electric power

The increase in power consumption was not thought through in their opinion and
there is also a feeling that multinationals are being given power at the expense of
domestic companies. While there may be no basis for such a view, it does indicate
that the state government has laid the ground for a potentially explosive situation
on the power front. Perhaps it was against this background that the state only made
a few feeble noises about bidding for the Nano project which eventually went to
Gujarat. The major reasons for the power crisis in Tamil Nadu are the following: 1.
Absence of a long term vision to increase availability of power by capacity addition
and encouraging private investment in power generation compared to other states,
over the last 10 years. 2. Overdependence on outside sources. 3. Considerable
dependence on wind energy which is highly seasonal in nature and therefore not
completely reliable. 4. Failure to reduce power transmission losses in the last 10
years Detailed explanation: 1. Lack of long term vision: The following stats
demonstrates how the gap between requirement and availability of power in Tamil
Nadu has altered significantly in comparison with other industrialized states between
2003 04 and 2010 11 Comparing this with the situation in 2003 04, it can be seen
that the status of deficits in most of the states was the same, except in Tamil
Foolish Impulses In Romeo And Juliet
The famous english novelist (and Mrs.Kenny s favorite writer), Jane Austen once
said Every impulse of feeling should be guided by reason (A Quote from Pride and
Prejudice). Unlike Jane Austen, the characters in the famous play by William
Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet do not have a guided reason therefor resulting in
their foolish impulse. In Romeo and Juliet, two families of the same rank are
enemies and have never gotten along, Capulet and Montague. Capulet and Lady
Capulet have a young daughter named Juliet while the Montague family has a son
named Romeo. At first sight the star cross d lovers (1.prologue.6) fall deeply in
love resulting in the quick decision of marriage which later turns into fatal
downfall. In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses characterization to
portray that adolescent behavior is marked by foolish impulses. Romeo is
enchanted with the first sight of Juliet is shown through his adolescent experiences:
If I profane with my unworthiest hand this holy shrine, the gentle fine is this: my
lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender
kiss (1.5.91 94). With the first sight of Juliet, Romeo believes she is the most
beautiful thing on earth. Romeo determines that Juliet is better than him and he
does not deserve someone as amazing as her. Now Romeo is beloved and loves again,
alike bewitched by the charm of looks (2.prologue.5 6). Romeo is finally in love
again after his heartbreak from Rosaline, a girl who

Uner Tan Syndrome Essay
In 2005, a Turkish neuroscientist and evolutionary biologist named Dr. Uner Tan
discovered a family with a very unique condition: five of them walk on all fours
with a quadrupedal gait. In addition to quadrupedalism, affected individuals showed
severe mental retardation and what he described as primitive speech. The presence
of these three characteristic symptoms became known as Uner Tan Syndrome. The
Ulas family was discovered in a small village near Iskenderun in southern Turkey. At
the time of their identification, there were 12 normal children and 7 disabled
children, one of whom died. Of the 6 remaining affected children, 5 of them displayed
habitual quadrupedal walking. The Ulas family is highly consanguineous (second...

Humans, due to a highly developed cerebellum, have an unparalleled sense of balance
that is specially adapted to bipedalism. MRI scans of all members of the Ulas
family showed that the individuals with Uner Tan Syndrome had grossly
underdeveloped cerebellar vermis, which is responsible for balance and locomotion
(See figure 1).
Since the discovery of the Ulas family, three additional consanguineous families in
Turkey have shown segregation for Uner Tan Syndrome to varying degrees. All
together, these families were labeled A, B, C, and D. Families A and D had regular
access to medical attention, and both sought treatment for the quadrupedal
locomotion. In fact, family A actively discouraged quadrupedal walking. Attempts in
both families were unsuccessful, which led researchers to conclude that social factors
did not contribute to this behavior (Ozcelik et al. 4234).
Although Uner Tan Syndrome is described as a collection of symptoms, the
implications of the quadrupedal locomotion has caused it to receive the greatest
amount of attention since its discovery. In 2008, Turkish scientists claimed to have
found one of the genes responsible, at least in part, to this particular phenotype.
Affected individuals in families A and D were homozygous for either deletions or
nonsense mutations in the VLDLR gene on chromosome 9. This gene transcribes a

Woo hoo! What a bonus! Margins and Fonts 4 Margins and fonts. The top, bottom,
left, and right margins should be one inch. Use 12point font. You should use a
conservative, serif font type (e.g., Times New Roman, Cambria). By the way, serif
font means that each letter has a little ledge to stand on. Sans (i.e., without) serif
fonts (e.g., Helvetica, Calibri, and Arial) should not be used (except in tables and
figures) because they are more difficult to read and increase eyestrain (bummer!).
Do not use script fonts because some are just annoying (e.g., Braggadocia) while
others are hard to take serious (e.g., Comic Sans). Paragraphs and Spacing
Paragraphs should be indented 5 7 spaces or 1/2 inch. Make sure your indent is
consistent throughout the whole paper. The best way to do this is to use the tab

Mom Classification
Mothers can be classified into multiple categories.Stay at home mom, work mom,
dadmom, and some other other non flattering categories. My mother falls into the
hero category. She helps me try new things. She helps me through the pain that the
cosmos have plagued me with. Finally we have a special bond that will be very hard
to break. Many mothers want their children to try new things, my motherwas no
exception. She had me try a range of things like soccer and basketball,of which I got
hit in the face a quite a bit and now have a phobia of basketballs, to poetry and
theater. I finally stuck with theater and have to thank her for that. Many of the things I
did just to say I did them, which usually ended up with me getting hurt.
My mother also helped me with my pain, and I had a LOT of pain. When I was
younger I had horrible stomach pains to a point I would curl up into a ball and lay
on the couch shaking for hours, I think I went to the emergency room once when
that happened. After 8 years of blood tests, an MRI, and 3 endoscopies the doctors
finally found out what was wrong. I have an egg allergy, am lactose intolerant, have
celiac disease and have developed anxiety through the years of pain. The whole time
my mom was comforting me and still does when I have my occasional panic attack,
but during that time we had developed a bond. ... Show more content on

Frank Warren s Inevitable M Article Analysis
On january 1st 2005, Frank Warren started up what became a very successful blog
known as PostSecret, it is a website where anonymous postcards are mailed in and
later posted up online to share with others. Its wide use and popularity has brought
to attention the concern of people s willingness to share secrets as long as they
stay anonymous. In today s world where we are constantly being monitored, it
should be no surprise that we have grown the need and desire for more privacy. In
Peter Singer s, Visible Man: Ethics in a World without Secrets , he also speaks about
the concern of increased monitoring but claims that it will create a world where
morals are reformed . Privacy and Anonymity have two different meanings but they
go hand in hand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what is privacy? Privacy is the ability to keep certain things to yourself, to not
be observed nor disturbed. People s developing need for privacy has been noted
through history, and as Peter Singer states, privacy is viewed quite possibly as a
status symbol, since an impoverished peasant could not afford a house with
separate rooms (463). An example would be how the Government of the United
States created the NSA in order to try spy and keep tabs on its citizens privately
without them noticing, which was working up until Julian Assange revealed
hundreds of thousands of classified files which exposed corruption from all over the
world including the government s secret data collection project also known as the
NSA. The leaking of these files brought on a new type of surveillance known as
inverse surveillance, or as Steve Mann ( professor of computer engineering) calls it,
sousveillance . Inverse surveillance is meant to keep tabs on the government and

The Decision Of The European Central Bank
It is necessary to look at the state of the Eurozone economy in order to properly
analyse the decision of the European Central Bank (ECB) on September the 4th to cut
its benchmark interest rate to 0.05%, and to launch an asset purchase program to buy
debt products from the banks at the same time. Since the collapse of Lehman in 2008
and the global crisis that followed, the Eurozone has been contracting significantly to
the extent where consumer price inflationin the Eurozone fell to 0.3% in September.
(BBC, 2014) The ECB s reaction has been to reduce interest rates and make use of
quantitative easing to try to generate economic growth, albeit without much success.
In June 2014, when Mr. Draghi, the president of the ECB, announced its latest cuts
to 0.15%, he stated that he couldn t see the rates dropping below this level. And yet,
merely a few months later, he announced a further drop to 0.05%, in what many
considered to be a desperate attempt to help pull the Eurozone out of deep crisis. The
example of Japan s 20 year struggle with deflation and a contracting economy was the
driving force that pushed the ECB to take this drastic measure. Therefore, it is
important to analyse and evaluate the decision of the ECB, set in the context of the
current European economic situation, and the alternative policies that could be used.
The introduction of expansionary monetary policy can have many impacts on an
economy. One such impact is to stimulate consumer spending and levels of
Study Groups In The Paper Chase (1973)
It s a device. A tool. Groups of first year students that get together a couple times a
week. Review the class work, the casebooks. They make outlines and then share
them. It helps at exam time. You interested? (Paul Thompson Bridges, 1973, scene 2).
On the surface study groups may seem to be an effective strategy for enhancing
learning, but they can actually lead students to encounter more problems than solved
in the long run. These problems can vary from fairly small to very serious, which is
seen throughout the film, The Paper Chase (1973). This film provided the gold
standard of awful study groups with bickering, backstabbing, and withholding study
aids. From the very first meeting, it was bound for failure as the members of the group

Since the members of the study group came from universities to Harvard law school,
most of them have never before been pushed intellectually, nor faced any real
adversity in terms of competition. Therefore, combining smart intellectuals in a
group may seem like a great tool, but there is bound to be competition eventually.
In one of the group meetings, Bell states, You want to know about my outline? It s
800 pages long, and it s fantastic. I m going to publish that outline. My outline is
better than the casebook, (Bell). Bell believes his outline is the best, and later on
threatens not to share his outline with anyone else unless theirs begins to stack up.
Competition is also shown in Brooks s case where he struggles to keep up with his
group members. His wife Asheley tells group member Hart, He s just so tired. He
works so hard. Every night till 3:00 or 4:00. The competition is killing him,
(Asheley). Other types of competition that takes place throughout the film is the
desire to be recognized as the top student in Kingsfield s eyes. This takes place in
Kingsfield s lectures in the classroom scenes where it is shown that the same students
answers Kingsfield s questions, which just so happen to be members of the study
Observation Of Court Observation
Maricopa County Superior Court Observation
Social Work is a complex and very diverse field with many options to work in.
Many social workers find themselves going to court to advocate for their clients.
Others may consider working with the court directly. As an observer of a court it is
important to notice the individuals involved, the accessibility of the court, the parties
involved, and personal reflections that one perceives.
Description
Court
I attended the Maricopa County Superior Court located at 222 E Javelina Ave,
Mesa, AZ 85210. I went on Wednesday December 6, 2017 from 1pm to 5pm. I
attended both the criminal court in room 202 and family court in room 301. In the
criminal court, I observed 9 different cases and in the family court only 1 case. In
the criminal courtroom, the Judge was Judge Barth and the state prosecutor was
James Blair for all the cases. The public defenders (PD) were different for most all
the cases except some cases had the same PD in which none of them had more that
2 offenders assigned to them at that day. The PD included, Resario Spaccaferro,
Josephine Hallum, Kurt Harris, Asario Backafera, Robert Duffy, and Brian Gardner.
In the family court only the petitioner (the mom) had an attorney Charles Brown,
and the respondent (the dad) represented himself. All attorneys and PD were
dressed in suits and the judges of course were in their black robes. The state
prosecutor was also in a suit but had khaki pants and a dark navy blazer.
Ease of Access
Walking up I noticed there was a giant white tubing in the middle of the parking lot
that was draped over the wall and the court had orange cones blocking the handicap
ramp. Coming out this obstacle was no longer there. However, there is only one
ramp and could have been a huge issue for someone who needed ADA access to the
courtroom. It looked as if it was a fire hose but no water or fire truck was in sight.
Additionally, there is a bus stop behind the court house in front of the juvenile court
house. This makes it very easy for someone to access the courthouse through public
transportation. The surrounding neighborhood is primarily businesses. The old
department of Motor Vehicle is still there along with Community Bridges
Ender s Game Literary Analysis Essay
The Psychological Aspect of Ender s Game
Mass genocide is normally something people can avoid doing in their lifetime, but
in Ender Wiggin s case, there was no way around it. Ender Wiggin is a young,
intelligent boy who was manipulated into committing mass genocide to an alien
species nicknamed the buggers . Ender was under the belief he was playing a
simulation of the battles. He was under command of Colonel Graff, Mazer Rackham,
and other authority members who told him exactly what games to play and when.
Ender knew following these orders is essential to his survival and possibly the
survival of the human race. Ender Wiggin, psychologically, should not be held at fault
for committing mass genocide. The novel Ender s Game illustrates Ender ... Show

be fearful of his future, and therefore willing to lead an army. This fear is a product
of the officials giving him orders and making him feel unsafe, whether it be against
the buggers or even among his peers. According to the Milgram s Obedience to

what to do by a higher authority, almost always the people will comply, even if they

Benefits Of Payroll Outsourcing
Payroll outsourcing can save companies time and money. It allows the business to
not waste man hours handling a function that doesn t bring in any revenue. The cost
of payroll processing is greatly reduced by using a payroll service company. It
usually costs more to pay an employee to handle the payroll than it would cost to
outsource to a professional company.
Another cost savings of outsourcing is avoiding penalties and fees from the IRS and
state if a tax filing or payment is submitted late or incorrectly. In the event that an
error does occur most payroll service companies will pay the penalties and interest
that are accrued.
Payroll companies [http://www.apluspayrollservice.com] stay up to date on the
newest tax tables and tax laws. Tax laws are constantly changing and payroll
companies stay on top of the new changes to keep the business out of trouble. Payroll
companies offer services like direct deposit and pay as you go workers compensation

Many business owners realize the benefits of outsourcing the payroll service

The Life and Times of Benjamin Bugsy Siegel
Benjamin Bugsy Siegel was a man unlike any other, a man who strove to be better
than what he was, and who grew up with nothing yet died with everything (Carter
179; PBS par. 1; Bugsy Siegel Encyclpaedia par. 3). Unlike many who give up in
life because of the many problems they may face, Bugsy Siegel strove to be better
than his father was (Carter 179). Eventually, Siegel began forcing peddle cart
vendors to give him payments for protection from himself (PBS par. 2; Carter 179).
Thus began Siegel s transformation to a true mafia man running around with Lucky
Luciano, Meyer Lansky, and the Murder Inc. which Siegel himself created
(Southwell 212; PBS par. 4; Carter 180; Bugsy SiegelEncyclopaedia par. 2). Siegel

mistresses, including Virginia Hill, even after his wife Estelle Krakower bore him
two girls (Carter 187, 180). While in L.A. Siegel began to dream of a gambling
oasis in the desert. Siegel found the little town of Las Vegas, a town that had a few
small gambling hot spots here and there but not what he wanted. Siegel wanted
bigger. Siegel reached out to many mafia families in hopes that they would aid in
the funding of his dream. In the end, Siegel began to skim the east coast mafias for
money as well as obtain funds from a few of his mistresses (Bugsy Siegel
Encyclopaedia par. 3). In 1945, Siegel s Flamingo Hotel and Casino was completed
(Bugsy Siegel Encyclopaedia par. 3) the project was budgeted to approximately
$1,500,000; however, the end total cost was $6,000,000 (Bugsy Siegel

which did not sit well with the mafia families that paid for it (Bugsy Siegel,
Organized par. 5). It is obvious that this did not set well with the families and soon
after the opening of the hotel and casino Siegel was murdered (Bugsy Siegel,
Organized par. 5). On June 20, 1947, Bugsy Siegel was shot in his Mistress home
(Bugsy Siegel Encyclopaedia par. 3). Supposedly, Siegel had gotten into an

Muslim Community Center Observation
I visited the Toledo Muslim Community Center last Wednesday on April 5th. They

had all the important verses needed for prayer printed out with translations on them.
They would focus on memorizing the Quran verse by verse instead of by passages.
They found it is easier for the children to memorize and recite it verse by verse and

Non Verbal Communication And Nonverbal Communication
BCOM 103 Nonverbal Communication
Part A:
Sitting with proper posture (Affect display):
Sitting with your back straight will allow your spine to have its natural curve. This
can prevent unnecessary back strain. For example, pretend that your spine is a stack
of dishes and your head is a bowling ball that you want to keep balanced evenly on
top of the dishes.
Sitting with a straight spine will help you speak more clearly. Also, it will help you
appear more confident, professional and focused during your interview.
Maintaining eye contact:
Naturally look into the interview s eyes while he or she is talking, but don t stare.
Make sure to occasionally look away, but for the most part remain focused on the
interviewer.
Maintaining eye contact while you re being interviewed is vital to your success. It
will help you appear focused and intrigued about what the interviewer has to say. It
will also show the interviewer that you are highly interested in the position you are
being interviewed for.
Nodding your head (Regulator):
Occasionally, gently nod your head slowly up and down for about 1 2 seconds while
the interviewer is speaking.
Nodding your head during an interview while you are being spoken to will allow the
interviewer to see your nonverbal communication, which shows that you are listening
and acknowledging what they have to say. It also helps you seem confident and
focused, which can be a necessity when it comes to picking the right individual for
the job.
Patriot Air Missile Essay

Missile, Development (SAM D). In May of 1976, the Secretary of Defense
renamed SAM D to Patriot Air Defense Missile System and tested joint engagement
operations with HAWK in 1977. In May of 1982, the first Patriot unit started under
32d Army Air Defense Command. During a tactical exercise at White Sands Missile

which was simulating the SS 21 tactical ballistic missile (TBM) threat. During the
exercise, Patriot, for the first time, had defended a protected asset against a TBM. In

reports in Israel began to paint a troubling picture of Patriot s ability to defeat tactical
ballistic missiles. Successful Patriot engagements may have simply diverted or
broken up the incoming missile. While the missile did not impact the planned target,
debris from the engagement caused widespread damage on the ground. Some reports
of Patriot interceptors chasing TBMs to the ground also surfaced. The missile used
by Iraq, the SCUD B variant Al Husayn, had a tendency for breaking apart upon
reentry into the atmosphere. When this happened after Patriot forces had fired
interceptors, the missiles in flight were suddenly confronted by two or more targets
instead of one, and there was not enough time to launch additional interceptors
(Postol, 1991, p. 130). The most well known failure of Patriot during this war
happened due to a timing error within the software produced by continuous operation
of the system. The error continued to get worst, the longer the system was running.
At this location, the system had been running continuously for 100 hours. This error
caused the Patriot battery to fail to track an incoming TBM. The missile impacted an
Army barracks in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 28 American Soldiers and wounding
dozens. An Israeli Patriot unit had identified the timing error and a software
modification was circulating the region. The

both artists and their listeners, music provides an indispensible beauty that helps

The main theme of the blues was built upon racism in the surrounding. The music
expressed the bad treatment, and starvation that blacks received from the dominant

connections between the male country blues artists that roamed the backroads of
the South and their female equivalent; she made her professional debut in 1900 at
the age of l4 at the Springer Opera House in Columbus, Georgia. She was one of the

And a ball and chain, everywhere I go.
Nowadays the blues revolve around the meaning of sadness but doesn t have a true

character in this series is Izzie Stevens whom is played by Katherine Heigl. The
overall theme given in Grey s Anatomy by her character is anticipation, melancholy,

Chupacabra Essay
For hundreds of years, some people have believed in creatures that they ve seen
but are not proven yet by scientists. In America, there are a couple of sightings seen

the audience is still left pondering whether or not Hamletis truly sane. Bloom writes:
the question of Hamlet always must be Hamlet himself, for Shakespeare created him
to be as ambivalent and divided a consciousnessas a coherent drama could sustain
(387). Further, in his analysis of the character, Bloom asserts that Hamlet transcends
his play (385). Running with this notion, it is possible to suggest that, in the
character of Hamlet, Shakespeare explores the psychology of morality in and of
itself. Shakespeare critic Richard Hilliard asserts that in Hamlet s makeup is one of
an adept moral consciousness; He writes:
What should be clear...is that, until the tragic catastrophe, Hamlet is a moral dynamo,
systematically interrogating every echelon of Claudius s crooked court, flashing
mirrors of folly and vice into blind eyes... (Hilliard).
This perspective positions Hamlet as transcendently aware of the multiple moral
consequences he faces in his act of revenge. Consequently, without absolute certainty,
Hamlet hesitates to act. In Hamlet s soliloquies lie the most profound insights of
psychological deliberation and ruminations on human existence. The famous to be or
not to be soliloquy highlights the confliction of the mind that Hamlet, and doubtless
every viewer or reader, has encountered when faced with a decision that will leave
them scathed. Furthermore, Hamlet s reaction, when faced with the skull of his
former jester, Yorick, uncovers, in the most poignant way, the fragility of human
existence and the psyche s contemplation of death:
Alas, poor / Yorick! I knew him...a fellow of infinite / jest, of most excellent fancy.
He hath borne me on / his back a thousand times. And now how abhorred / in my
imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here / hung those lips that I have kissed I
know not how / oft. Where be your gibes now? Your gambols, your / songs, your
flashes of merriment
##s Of Prenatal Cocaine Exposure And Cortisol Reactivity...
On September 13th, we discussed various topics within the field of the brain,
biology, and development. Topics ranged from prenatal cocaine exposure and
cortisol reactivity in infants to adolescent risk taking. I particularly enjoyed Eiden
and colleagues article the most out of the assigned articles. Eiden and colleagues
conducted a study examining the effects of prenatal cocaine exposure on infant
hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis activity and reactivity at seven months old
(Eiden et al., pg 528). They hypothesized that infants exposed to cocaine would have
higher cortisol reactivity and would have a slower recovery in response compared to
those in the control group. They also hypothesized that caregiving instability may

For example, teenagers would drive their cars fast because it gives them a rush, a
feeling of walking on dangerousness even though it is a stupid attempt at possibly
gaining popularity in their friendship circles. Dopamine plays an important role in
the brain s area focused on reward, increasing, decreasing, and the redistribution of
dopamine. We discussed the fact that adolescents feel invincible and may share more
emotions with their peers which can lead to choosing to take certain risks. For
example, if they see (or hear) that their peers are partaking in the consumption of
alcohol or drugs, they may do it themselves to feel a part of the gang or to feel just as
invincible as their friends are. The claim of the day was that genetic factors play a
strong role in human development that genes alone can determine certain human
behavioral characteristics. Plomin focused on behavioral genetics in the 21st century.
He discusses quantitative genetics and molecular genetics along with three different
directions for genetic research such as developmental genetics, environmental
genetics, and multivariate genetics. The greatest need for quantitative genetic
research going beyond heritability is asking how much genetic factors are important
in behavioral development. The three different directions of
Descriptive Essay About Onaway Island
Onaway Island
The glowing sun melts into the glistening lake waters through the dense pine trees.
Pink and orange hues are painted across the dimly light sky as wispy clouds float out
of sight. A gentle wind leaves a chill in the August air. Crickets chirp as the day
transitions into night. Campers start to trickle into the candle lit chapel, arms
crossed, voices silenced. The angled ceilings and open walls allow for a fully
immersive experience. I don t consider myself a religious person, but experiencing
a night on Onaway is truly an otherworldly experience. I walk into the chapel and
make a beeline for the benches on the far left of the chapel. These seats are angled
just so the sun doesn t get in your eyes as it begins to set. I shake the loose, dry, pine
needles out of my sandals and watch them drift back onto the floor. I twirl the
handmade friendship bracelet encircled around my wrist as I glance around the
lofty rafters. Cobwebs missed by the early morning cleaning dangle lazily like
doilies glued to the ceiling. Here I sit sandwiched in between my best friends.
Katie on my left and Becky on my right. We take up a section composed entirely of
just our friends. Whispered jokes and half smiles are flashed when the leaders aren t
paying attention. Bright colored Nalgene water bottles litter the ground beneath the
pews, each covered with more stickers than the next. Chaco clad feet tap are tapped
on the bottoms to shake out the stuck pine needles. I m a people

The Dimensional Model Of Personality Disorders
Personality disorders are psychological conditions marked by disruptive and
persistent patterns of behavior that damage social functioning. A person suffering
from a personality disorder may not even recognize that they have a problem. Unlike
other mental illnesses, personalities are often considered to be chronic and permanent
patterns that create no visible problem in life. Not only can personality disorders be
difficult to diagnose and understand, but also individuals with these behavior
problems may potentially be dangerous. For thousands of years, scientists have been
studying human personality characteristics, but the concept of personality disorders
is a relatively newer idea. Probably the most recognized and distressing personality...

The model consists of a range of levels for certain personality traits and requires a
rating of the individual on each dimension. The dimensional model would assess the
patient with the intent of observing their high rankings of a particular trait rather than
to diagnose the patient with a specific disorder. For adults, there are not many specific
treatments for antisocial personality disorder other than talk therapy. However, there
are some promising interventions for children and adolescents whose minds and
brains are more malleable and adaptable. Due to this, the best way to treat
antisocial personality disorder may be trying to prevent it. According to psychiatrist
Donald W. Black (2015), many kids diagnosed with conduct disorder are at high risk
for developing antisocial personalities as adults. By identifying warning signs early
on and by assisting these kids and families to correct their disruptive behavior and
remove negative influences, some of their impulsiveness could be redirected into
healthier life
Apple, Inc., The Electronics And Beats Music
Apple acquires Beats. Apple, Inc., the electronics giant, has acquired Beats Music
and Beats Electronics, the headphones giant, for $3.2 billion. Apple has enough
money to buy or build any company they want to from ground up. So, why did
Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music? According to NBC News, Apple
CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company could build about anything that you
could dream of, adding that acquiring Beats would give them a head start and add
kindred spirits to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience
that both Dr. Dre, a well known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy
Iovine, the Chairman of Interscope Geffen A M Records have and the energy they
have brought to the hip hop and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have
made the decision to acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr.
Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer market for high end headphones. Beats
also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service.
The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive
shift towards streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads
which iTunes dominates dropped 1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming
music revenue from the likes of Pandora and Spotify soared 39 percent to $1.4
billion, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (CBS News/AP,
2014).
Beats Music will allow Apple to compete

The first golden age of television occurred in the nineteen fifties and the gold was quite humble on the surface. Because the shows were about local police, cowboys and housewives. However, these wholesome programs acted like an awl, digging deep into the national psyche, bringing out something truly valuable and sought after by everyone. These shows exemplified the feelings of a nation and gave everyone a model to follow and a dream to chase. The country immunisation program has been a success compared to the developed countries. The country has lower infant mortality rates than United States, which uses a large budget on health. This is an experience that has showed that use of a lot of money in health care does not always translate to better health. USA has been experiencing high rates of objections to vaccination compared to Cuba. McDonald et al. • 6. How Did Erasmus Use Folly to Criticize the Catholic Church How did Erasmus use Folly to criticize the Catholic Church of his Day? It may seem odd or different to admire and acclaim Folly, but there is a definite benefit to foolishness: the freedom to tell only factual information. In Praise of Folly, Erasmus put this independence to good use in repeating to the readers, a civilization significantly besmirched by mature worries, that a person is unable to serve both God and Mammon. He leveled over his irony by promising us that there is merit in being attacked by Folly (7), and closed with the recap that it s Folly and a woman who s been speaking (134), a renunciation that permitted him to be as brutal as he desired to be in his condemnation. • 7. The Writer s Duty Of William Faulkner s Nobel Prize... Addie Champlin English II AP Dr. Payne September 9 2016 The Writer s Duty In William Faulkner s Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he speaks about the true purpose of writing and the importance of genuinely putting your heart into your work. He discusses how the only way writing can truly be valuable is if the author is dedicated to showing the authentic love the human spirit holds and what that love is capable of accomplishing. A good piece of writingwill show both strength and vulnerability and will not be written for fame or recognition. It will be written for the sake of creating and spreading a message that is important to the author. In their memoirs, An American Childhood and The Road from Coorain, Annie Dillardand Jill Ker Conway, both feel very strongly about their purpose for writing. Conway tends to express her reasons for writing explicitly, while Dillard chooses to do it more implicitly. In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, she clearly demonstrates the meaning of the novel in one passage that reads, Children wake up and find themselves here, discover themselves to have been here all along; is this sad? They wake like sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people brought back from cardiac arrest or from drowning: in medias res, surrounded by familiar people and objects, equipped with a hundred skills. They know the neighborhood, they can read and write English, they are old hands at the commonplace mysteries, and yet they feel themselves to have just
  • 8. Historical Context Of Oppression Introduction Growing up in America it seem that success was described in a way that was very obtainable for everyone to reach as long as you worked hard and got an education. Now assessing life and some of the experiences I have had, I don t remember anyone explaining that white privilege had that exception. With a social worker perspective it helps me understand that different cultural group are associated with being vulnerable because of cultural norms in diverse ethnicities of individuals. Identifying as an African American woman has many life risk factors associated with those identities. One example that I have had personal experience with was racism. While striving to become a better person and working to obtain my bachelors degree in Social Work, I took notice to how the residents of the rural environment were uncomfortable with my identity s being African American and woman. I often got racially profiled by police and even was called hurtful names by residents due to the color of my skin and stereotypes. In further support of my experiences Draut (2017) acknowledges that hierarchies continue to marginalize black people, women and immigrants. As a Social Worker it is a part of our duty to Ethics to encourage dialogue and provide education on stereotypical biases to begin to see change in the way that diverse groups are viewed and treated. Historical Context of Oppression Overtimes throughout historical evidence people deemed inferior experienced many social

Imagine being put into an extracurricular activity where you have to learn many different dances because you will be competing with other schools for the championship, keep in mind you are dancing with students that you efficiently have never known. And the worst part, according to the students, girls dancing with boys and vice versa. Anaheim schools can increase students success by providing free extracurricular activities that grant them to experience new things that they have never been through before because it changes their view on things they hadn t even been given the chance to try or see. As well as providing every student with the materials that are necessary so that even low income students can get the opportunity to try them. In the film documentary Mad Hot Ballroom, directed by Marilyn Agrelo, students are given the opportunity to dance and compete with other schools, while teams are getting eliminated throughout the competition until they reach the championship. It s not bad not to make it (Agrelo). This was said from one of the men in the meeting before the competition. He had mentioned that most of the time the children are brought down because they eliminated and they do make it. But they have to look at the bright side, the thing that matters is that they tried and not making it in the competition doesn t mean they are not good at dancing, but they can make

Prescribed burns seem like they would be the best idea, but are they? Their claim to fame is to clear out land in order to decrease the burning space for when an actual forest fire occurs. Yet this may seem like a brilliant idea, but one must look at the negative aspects of controlled burnings. Much like the firefighters in 911 (figure 1); many people would say that a firefighter s health is very important. Life is a precious thing and before we sit around and let controlled burnings take control, we should protect the lives of those who protect us. Figure SEQ Figure * ARABIC 1 (Firefighters at a 911 memorial) Although health is a major issue, you must keep in mind that visibility is very important, especially if you have to drive through the thick smoke on a major highway. Loss of sight during a burn usually occurs during high peak exposures (Reinhardt 35). It is hard for firefighters to concentrate on their work because the smoke decreases their visibility so much (Reinhardt 34). Besides the danger of not being able to see while driving and a firefighter not being able to see what he is doing, it is also a negative to not be able to enjoy the beautiful nature around us when we are outside. The smoke may not last long, but it is hard to go on with day to day lives dealing with breathing let alone looking through the smoke each day. Smoke could irritate eyes for a long period of time and might possibly lead to long term damage (Reinhardt 34). The last, but yet most important aspect one must look at is the fact that your long term health could be affected by smoke damage from the burns. The top five components of potential health hazards are: acrolein, benzene, carbon monoxide,
  • 13. Analysis Of Richard Rodriguez s Hunger Of Memory An autobiography is completely unlike any other type of writing, and it is this style of book that author Richard Rodriguez bravely chose to use in Hunger of Memory. Essentially, an autobiography is a book documenting someone s life; full of their heartbeat and heartaches. Its raw authenticity is so refreshing in comparison to complex literary texts full of hidden metaphors and complicated symbolism. Through this sort of writing, Rodriguez provides an authentic, honest account of his life while detailing how race played a role in it. In order to accomplish this, he examines specific aspects of his life and reveals how his culture and skin color affected these areas. Throughout the text it is obvious that the consequences of race are involved in every single part of people s lives, specifically education, as revealed through the hidden curriculum, language, and religion involved in the classroom. Schools are supposed to teach academic material, but they also teach students how to function in society and fit in with the culture. In a sense, the classroom becomes a sort of miniature community as the educator and students function in a way that reflects the real world outside of classroom doors. Based upon this idea that schools resemble actual society, researchers have drawn direct links between the quality of a schools climate and its educational outcomes (Jerald). This phenomenon is called the hidden curriculum and refers to a range of things (attitudes,

This was an advantage on any bands before them because now, people in places away from Liverpool where they were based could see what they were like and enjoy their music. Presently, the environment is conducive for big companies to invest in Tamil Nadu. However, there are many challenges to ensure that the requirements are met both for domestic and industrial application. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The increase in power consumption was not thought through in their opinion and there is also a feeling that multinationals are being given power at the expense of domestic companies. While there may be no basis for such a view, it does indicate that the state government has laid the ground for a potentially explosive situation on the power front. Perhaps it was against this background that the state only made a few feeble noises about bidding for the Nano project which eventually went to Gujarat. The major reasons for the power crisis in Tamil Nadu are the following: 1. Absence of a long term vision to increase availability of power by capacity addition and encouraging private investment in power generation compared to other states, over the last 10 years. 2. Overdependence on outside sources. 3. Considerable dependence on wind energy which is highly seasonal in nature and therefore not completely reliable. 4. Failure to reduce power transmission losses in the last 10 years Detailed explanation: 1. Lack of long term vision: The following stats demonstrates how the gap between requirement and availability of power in Tamil Nadu has altered significantly in comparison with other industrialized states between 2003 04 and 2010 11 Comparing this with the situation in 2003 04, it can be seen that the status of deficits in most of the states was the same, except in Tamil

Foolish Impulses In Romeo And Juliet The famous english novelist (and Mrs.Kenny s favorite writer), Jane Austen once said Every impulse of feeling should be guided by reason (A Quote from Pride and Prejudice). Unlike Jane Austen, the characters in the famous play by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet do not have a guided reason therefor resulting in their foolish impulse. In Romeo and Juliet, two families of the same rank are enemies and have never gotten along, Capulet and Montague. Capulet and Lady Capulet have a young daughter named Juliet while the Montague family has a son named Romeo. Uner Tan Syndrome Essay In 2005, a Turkish neuroscientist and evolutionary biologist named Dr. Uner Tan discovered a family with a very unique condition: five of them walk on all fours with a quadrupedal gait. In addition to quadrupedalism, affected individuals showed severe mental retardation and what he described as primitive speech. The presence of these three characteristic symptoms became known as Uner Tan Syndrome. The Ulas family was discovered in a small village near Iskenderun in southern Turkey. At the time of their identification, there were 12 normal children and 7 disabled children, one of whom died. Of the 6 remaining affected children, 5 of them displayed habitual quadrupedal walking. Humans, due to a highly developed cerebellum, have an unparalleled sense of balance that is specially adapted to bipedalism. MRI scans of all members of the Ulas family showed that the individuals with Uner Tan Syndrome had grossly underdeveloped cerebellar vermis, which is responsible for balance and locomotion (See figure 1). Since the discovery of the Ulas family, three additional consanguineous families in Turkey have shown segregation for Uner Tan Syndrome to varying degrees. All together, these families were labeled A, B, C, and D. Families A and D had regular access to medical attention, and both sought treatment for the quadrupedal locomotion. In fact, family A actively discouraged quadrupedal walking. Attempts in both families were unsuccessful, which led researchers to conclude that social factors did not contribute to this behavior (Ozcelik et al. 4234). Although Uner Tan Syndrome is described as a collection of symptoms, the implications of the quadrupedal locomotion has caused it to receive the greatest amount of attention since its discovery. In 2008, Turkish scientists claimed to have found one of the genes responsible, at least in part, to this particular phenotype. Affected individuals in families A and D were homozygous for either deletions or nonsense mutations in the VLDLR gene on chromosome 9. This gene transcribes a very low density

Frank Warren s Inevitable M Article Analysis On january 1st 2005, Frank Warren started up what became a very successful blog known as PostSecret, it is a website where anonymous postcards are mailed in and later posted up online to share with others. Its wide use and popularity has brought to attention the concern of people s willingness to share secrets as long as they stay anonymous. In today s world where we are constantly being monitored, it should be no surprise that we have grown the need and desire for more privacy. Privacy is the ability to keep certain things to yourself, to not be observed nor disturbed. People s developing need for privacy has been noted through history, and as Peter Singer states, privacy is viewed quite possibly as a status symbol, since an impoverished peasant could not afford a house with separate rooms (463). An example would be how the Government of the United States created the NSA in order to try spy and keep tabs on its citizens privately without them noticing, which was working up until Julian Assange revealed hundreds of thousands of classified files which exposed corruption from all over the world including the government s secret data collection project also known as the NSA. The leaking of these files brought on a new type of surveillance known as inverse surveillance, or as Steve Mann ( professor of computer engineering) calls it, sousveillance . Inverse surveillance is meant to keep tabs on the government and expose abuse of power going
  • 22. The Decision Of The European Central Bank It is necessary to look at the state of the Eurozone economy in order to properly analyse the decision of the European Central Bank (ECB) on September the 4th to cut its benchmark interest rate to 0.05%, and to launch an asset purchase program to buy debt products from the banks at the same time. Since the collapse of Lehman in 2008 and the global crisis that followed, the Eurozone has been contracting significantly to the extent where consumer price inflationin the Eurozone fell to 0.3% in September. (BBC, 2014) The ECB s reaction has been to reduce interest rates and make use of quantitative easing to try to generate economic growth, albeit without much success. In June 2014, when Mr. Draghi, the president of the ECB, announced its latest cuts to 0.15%, he stated that he couldn t see the rates dropping below this level. And yet, merely a few months later, he announced a further drop to 0.05%, in what many considered to be a desperate attempt to help pull the Eurozone out of deep crisis. The example of Japan s 20 year struggle with deflation and a contracting economy was the driving force that pushed the ECB to take this drastic measure. Therefore, it is important to analyse and evaluate the decision of the ECB, set in the context of the current European economic situation, and the alternative policies that could be used. The introduction of expansionary monetary policy can have many impacts on an economy. One such impact is to stimulate consumer spending and levels of

They make outlines and then share them. It helps at exam time. You interested? (Paul Thompson Bridges, 1973, scene 2). On the surface study groups may seem to be an effective strategy for enhancing learning, but they can actually lead students to encounter more problems than solved in the long run. These problems can vary from fairly small to very serious, which is seen throughout the film, The Paper Chase (1973). This film provided the gold standard of awful study groups with bickering, backstabbing, and withholding study aids. Since the members of the study group came from universities to Harvard law school, most of them have never before been pushed intellectually, nor faced any real adversity in terms of competition. Therefore, combining smart intellectuals in a group may seem like a great tool, but there is bound to be competition eventually. In one of the group meetings, Bell states, You want to know about my outline? It s 800 pages long, and it s fantastic. I m going to publish that outline. My outline is better than the casebook, (Bell). Bell believes his outline is the best, and later on threatens not to share his outline with anyone else unless theirs begins to stack up. Other types of competition that takes place throughout the film is the desire to be recognized as the top student in Kingsfield s eyes. Many social workers find themselves going to court to advocate for their clients. Others may consider working with the court directly. As an observer of a court it is important to notice the individuals involved, the accessibility of the court, the parties involved, and personal reflections that one perceives. Description Court I attended the Maricopa County Superior Court located at 222 E Javelina Ave, Mesa, AZ 85210. I went on Wednesday December 6, 2017 from 1pm to 5pm. I attended both the criminal court in room 202 and family court in room 301. In the criminal court, I observed 9 different cases and in the family court only 1 case. In the criminal courtroom, the Judge was Judge Barth and the state prosecutor was James Blair for all the cases. The public defenders (PD) were different for most all the cases except some cases had the same PD in which none of them had more that 2 offenders assigned to them at that day. The PD included, Resario Spaccaferro, Josephine Hallum, Kurt Harris, Asario Backafera, Robert Duffy, and Brian Gardner. In the family court only the petitioner (the mom) had an attorney Charles Brown, and the respondent (the dad) represented himself. All attorneys and PD were dressed in suits and the judges of course were in their black robes. The state prosecutor was also in a suit but had khaki pants and a dark navy blazer. Ease of Access Walking up I noticed there was a giant white tubing in the middle of the parking lot that was draped over the wall and the court had orange cones blocking the handicap ramp. Coming out this obstacle was no longer there. However, there is only one ramp and could have been a huge issue for someone who needed ADA access to the courtroom. It looked as if it was a fire hose but no water or fire truck was in sight. Additionally, there is a bus stop behind the court house in front of the juvenile court house. This makes it very easy for someone to access the courthouse through public transportation. The surrounding neighborhood is primarily businesses. The old department of Motor Vehicle is still there along with Community Bridges

  • 37. Analysis Of Hamlet And King Lear The social tolerance of these plays goes hand in hand with their exploration of human psychology. The hallmark examples of Shakespeare s penetration into the human psyche are Hamlet and King Lear. In the former, Shakespeare explores the state of melancholia in the young prince of Denmark. Even after the play is finished the audience is still left pondering whether or not Hamletis truly sane. Bloom writes: the question of Hamlet always must be Hamlet himself, for Shakespeare created him to be as ambivalent and divided a consciousnessas a coherent drama could sustain (387). Further, in his analysis of the character, Bloom asserts that Hamlet transcends his play (385). Running with this notion, it is possible to suggest that, in the character of Hamlet, Shakespeare explores the psychology of morality in and of itself. Shakespeare critic Richard Hilliard asserts that in Hamlet s makeup is one of an adept moral consciousness; He writes: What should be clear...is that, until the tragic catastrophe, Hamlet is a moral dynamo, systematically interrogating every echelon of Claudius s crooked court, flashing mirrors of folly and vice into blind eyes... (Hilliard). This perspective positions Hamlet as transcendently aware of the multiple moral consequences he faces in his act of revenge. Consequently, without absolute certainty, Hamlet hesitates to act. In Hamlet s soliloquies lie the most profound insights of psychological deliberation and ruminations on human existence. The famous to be or not to be soliloquy highlights the confliction of the mind that Hamlet, and doubtless every viewer or reader, has encountered when faced with a decision that will leave them scathed. Furthermore, Hamlet s reaction, when faced with the skull of his former jester, Yorick, uncovers, in the most poignant way, the fragility of human existence and the psyche s contemplation of death: Alas, poor / Yorick! I knew him...a fellow of infinite / jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath borne me on / his back a thousand times. And now how abhorred / in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here / hung those lips that I have kissed I know not how / oft. Where be your gibes now? Your gambols, your / songs, your flashes of merriment
  • 38. ##s Of Prenatal Cocaine Exposure And Cortisol Reactivity... On September 13th, we discussed various topics within the field of the brain, biology, and development. Topics ranged from prenatal cocaine exposure and cortisol reactivity in infants to adolescent risk taking. I particularly enjoyed Eiden and colleagues article the most out of the assigned articles. Eiden and colleagues conducted a study examining the effects of prenatal cocaine exposure on infant hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis activity and reactivity at seven months old (Eiden et al., pg 528). They hypothesized that infants exposed to cocaine would have higher cortisol reactivity and would have a slower recovery in response compared to those in the control group. They also hypothesized that caregiving instability may moderate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, teenagers would drive their cars fast because it gives them a rush, a feeling of walking on dangerousness even though it is a stupid attempt at possibly gaining popularity in their friendship circles. Dopamine plays an important role in the brain s area focused on reward, increasing, decreasing, and the redistribution of dopamine. We discussed the fact that adolescents feel invincible and may share more emotions with their peers which can lead to choosing to take certain risks. For example, if they see (or hear) that their peers are partaking in the consumption of alcohol or drugs, they may do it themselves to feel a part of the gang or to feel just as invincible as their friends are. The claim of the day was that genetic factors play a strong role in human development that genes alone can determine certain human behavioral characteristics. Plomin focused on behavioral genetics in the 21st century. He discusses quantitative genetics and molecular genetics along with three different directions for genetic research such as developmental genetics, environmental genetics, and multivariate genetics. The greatest need for quantitative genetic research going beyond heritability is asking how much genetic factors are important in behavioral development. The three different directions of
  • 39. Descriptive Essay About Onaway Island Onaway Island The glowing sun melts into the glistening lake waters through the dense pine trees. Pink and orange hues are painted across the dimly light sky as wispy clouds float out of sight. A gentle wind leaves a chill in the August air. Crickets chirp as the day transitions into night. Campers start to trickle into the candle lit chapel, arms crossed, voices silenced. The angled ceilings and open walls allow for a fully immersive experience. I don t consider myself a religious person, but experiencing a night on Onaway is truly an otherworldly experience. I walk into the chapel and make a beeline for the benches on the far left of the chapel. These seats are angled just so the sun doesn t get in your eyes as it begins to set. I shake the loose, dry, pine needles out of my sandals and watch them drift back onto the floor. I twirl the handmade friendship bracelet encircled around my wrist as I glance around the lofty rafters. Cobwebs missed by the early morning cleaning dangle lazily like doilies glued to the ceiling. Here I sit sandwiched in between my best friends. Katie on my left and Becky on my right. We take up a section composed entirely of just our friends. Whispered jokes and half smiles are flashed when the leaders aren t paying attention. Bright colored Nalgene water bottles litter the ground beneath the pews, each covered with more stickers than the next. Chaco clad feet tap are tapped on the bottoms to shake out the stuck pine needles. I m a people

  • 41. The Dimensional Model Of Personality Disorders Personality disorders are psychological conditions marked by disruptive and persistent patterns of behavior that damage social functioning. A person suffering from a personality disorder may not even recognize that they have a problem. Unlike other mental illnesses, personalities are often considered to be chronic and permanent patterns that create no visible problem in life. Not only can personality disorders be difficult to diagnose and understand, but also individuals with these behavior problems may potentially be dangerous. For thousands of years, scientists have been studying human personality characteristics, but the concept of personality disorders is a relatively newer idea. Probably the most recognized and distressing personality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The model consists of a range of levels for certain personality traits and requires a rating of the individual on each dimension. The dimensional model would assess the patient with the intent of observing their high rankings of a particular trait rather than to diagnose the patient with a specific disorder. For adults, there are not many specific treatments for antisocial personality disorder other than talk therapy. However, there are some promising interventions for children and adolescents whose minds and brains are more malleable and adaptable. Due to this, the best way to treat antisocial personality disorder may be trying to prevent it. According to psychiatrist Donald W. Black (2015), many kids diagnosed with conduct disorder are at high risk for developing antisocial personalities as adults. By identifying warning signs early on and by assisting these kids and families to correct their disruptive behavior and remove negative influences, some of their impulsiveness could be redirected into healthier life
  • 42. Apple, Inc., The Electronics And Beats Music Apple acquires Beats. Apple, Inc., the electronics giant, has acquired Beats Music and Beats Electronics, the headphones giant, for $3.2 billion. Apple has enough money to buy or build any company they want to from ground up. So, why did Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music? According to NBC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company could build about anything that you could dream of, adding that acquiring Beats would give them a head start and add kindred spirits to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience that both Dr. Dre, a well known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy Iovine, the Chairman of Interscope Geffen A M Records have and the energy they have brought to the hip hop and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have made the decision to acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr. Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer market for high end headphones. Beats also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service. The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive shift towards streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads which iTunes dominates dropped 1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming music revenue from the likes of Pandora and Spotify soared 39 percent to $1.4 billion, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (CBS News/AP, 2014).
