Scope of Practice/ Delegation/Advocacy
Over the course of your undergraduate degree you have been taught about your scope of practice as
a student and the scope of practice of registered nurses under many different frameworks – legal,
ethical, practical and so on. It is now time to consider how the change in your roles will influence
your scope of practice. Historically the scope of practice of nurses was clearly defined. In the
current contemporary model of health practice the professional boundaries between the health
professions is becoming increasing blurred (Fedoruk & Hoffman, 2013 p24). The issue is further
compounded due to the scope of nursing practice expanding with roles such as advanced practice
nurse, as well as the increase in semi-independent practitioners in community settings.
In this time of transition you must be careful that you understand the scope of practice of the role
you aspire to, that of an experienced practicing Registered Nurse and the role you are about to
undertake that of new registered nurse. Benner describes the new graduate as an advanced
beginner one who is competent but relies on the rules they have been taught to guide them in their
practice. Advanced beginners are seen as nurses who have a wide theory base of practice but are
still developing the ability to make content dependant judgements (Benner, 1984 p 21-22). This
means that you should not set the bar too high for yourselves and realise that you are still learning
and developing the clinical judgement skills that can only come from exposure to clinical situations,
known as experiential learning. If we take Benner at her word then it takes at least 2-3 years of
clinical experience following registration as a registered nurse to be deemed competent and even
then she says the competent nurse will lack speed and efficiency (Benner, 1984 p 26-27).

Over the course of your undergraduate degree you have been taught about your scope of practice as
a student and the scope of practice of registered nurses under many different frameworks – legal,
ethical, practical and so on. It is now time to consider how the change in your roles will influence
your scope of practice. Historically the scope of practice of nurses was clearly defined. In the
current contemporary model of health practice the professional boundaries between the health
professions is becoming increasing blurred (Fedoruk & Hoffman, 2013 p24). The issue is further
compounded due to the scope of nursing practice expanding with roles such as advanced practice
nurse, as well as the increase in semi-independent practitioners in community settings.
In this time of transition you must be careful that you understand the scope of practice of the role
you aspire to, that of an experienced practicing Registered Nurse and the role you are about to
undertake that of new registered nurse. Benner describes the new graduate as an advanced
beginner one who is competent but relies on the rules they have been taught to guide them in their
practice. Advanced beginners are seen as nurses who have a wide theory base of practice but are
still developing the ability to make content dependant judgements (Benner, 1984 p 21-22). This
means that you should not set the bar too high for yourselves and realise that you are still learning
and developing the clinical judgement skills that can only come from exposure to clinical situations,
known as experiential learning. If we take Benner at her word then it takes at least 2-3 years of
clinical experience following registration as a registered nurse to be deemed competent and even
then she says the competent nurse will lack speed and efficiency (Benner, 1984 p 26-27).

Study observed that over all, doctors were moderately satisfied with their job. Domains such as Interpersonal relationship and Working conditions, doctors were highly satisfied, whereas rest of the domains: Organizational functioning, Financial incentives, Non-financial incentives, and Physical facilities doctors were moderately satisfied. It is important to note that even though overall satisfaction is moderate, there were few components, where doctors were highly satisfied were - Communication system between patients and doctors, Involvement in decision making in the department, Rules and regulations of the institution, relationship between the department colleagues and other department colleagues, Provision for leave encashment, reward given for research work, workload of clinical aspect and workload of teaching aspect. Fetal circulation
The fetal circulation allows oxygenated blood from the placenta to circulate through the fetus. Deoxygenated blood returns to the placenta through the umbilical vein and arteries. Structures involved include the umbilical vein, ductus venosus, fetal heart, foramen ovale, ductus arteriosus, and umbilical arteries. The blood mixes at several sites before and after the ductus arteriosus. After birth, the umbilical vessels and ductus close, diverting circulation to the lungs, while the foramen ovale usually closes within a year.

It is divided into Gastro and Cardio medicine block where gastroenterology and hepatic cases and cardiac cases are admitted. The ward has total of 33 beds where 4 blocks with 28 general beds, 4semi- general beds and 1for the cases which need isolation. Total nursing staffs are 15 including in charge, 4 helpers and 3 health aids. Introduction to SWOT Analysis It is the tool that can provide prompts to the managers, clinical leads, nurses and staffs involved in the analysis of what is effective and less effective in the clinical systems and procedures, in the preparation for a plan of some forms (audit, assessments, quality checks). Rationale for SWOT Analysis on Nursing Conference Nursing conference is conducted daily and has a significant role in the care and cure of the patient so I thought of doing SWOT analysis on this topic. Nursing Conference (Pre and Post Conference) Conference is a team meeting which is conducted by the nursing staff at every shift change. The conference is the method to the discussion which university students share information about experience clinic who think critically of the clinical practice, gives different perspective and give the formal presentation. Nursing conference is the method of discussion which is conducted during the change in the shifts of the staffs so that the problems and the achievements during the shifts can be discussed. Active participation of the staff is crucial for the conference to be held effectively. Strength 1. Punctuality of the staffs. 2. Patients’ information is known (admission, discharge, LAMA, expired, Investigations, etc.)
- 2. 3. Information about working/ non-working instruments is known. 4. Active participation of the staff. 5. Good interpersonal relation maintained among staffs. Weakness 1. No detailed information is shared. 2. The role of in charge is minimal 3. The crucial information about patient is missed sometimes. Opportunity 1. Competency will be developed among staffs. 2. Patient will get the proper treatment. 3. Standard care will be provided to the patient which will automatically benefits the organization. Threat 1. Miscommunication/mistake in carrying information will harm the patient. 2. Lack of standardization will deteriorate the quality of the staffs. IMPRESSION During five weeks of the Nursing Concept ,Principles and Practices practicum in the Medicine II ward, we got to observe the nursing conference where I found the timely conduction and involvement of all the staffs as the positive point whereas no detail uptodate sharing of the patient information was the weakness of the conference.
