Sulfur has an atomic number of 16 and atomic mass of 32.066. It is found in hair, skin, nails and many amino acids. Sulfur plays a role in important nutrients like taurine and compounds used in supplements. Sulfur is also found in sulfur baths and present in some foods and vegetables in compounds like sulfoxides and sulfates. Though not always directly related to food science, sulfur contributes to many areas including amino acids, proteins, supplements and selected food and medical applications.
