As video becomes an increasingly common content delivery type, the question arises how to take best advantage of this medium. Very important is how to know that learners actually *understand* what they watch, not just that they watch or how much they watch. The best way to do this is with in-video assessments, provided as part of the standard offering by Kaltura.
In this presentation we will discuss basic use models for in-video assessments, but also discuss more advanced uses, and how to turn OER video content, student-generated videos, and even imperfect video performances into valuable teaching moments.
Finally, we will discuss how video analytics can be generated, and evaluated, including using them for adaptive learning experiences.

Assessing the Implementation of Authentic, Client-Facing Student Projects in ...
User Experience (UX) is often cited as one of the fastest growing occupations, creating opportunities across nearly every sector for individuals skilled in the application of user-centered design principles and methods. Many Information and Library Schools have responded to this demand by introducing more UX coursework into their curriculum, but the proliferation of agile software development and lean product design has incentivized organizations to look for experienced individuals for UX roles, even those that are considered entry-level. As a result, aspiring information professionals face a paradoxical situation in which they are required to have UX experience before they can gain UX experience. This article provides an assessment of one institution's efforts to overcome this experience gap by offering opportunities for students to participate in three types of authentic client-facing UX projects. Through surveys of students and clients served over four academic years, we provide a set of lessons learned and recommended best practices for incorporating project-based learning opportunities into UX courses.

It describes the multi-year pilot process, beginning with a free-form implementation using Word documents and evolving to the current use of a template provided by ThreeCanoes. Building Quality Courses Utilizing QM and Online Faculty Mentors
Portland Community College has over 90,000 students enrolled across 4 main campuses. Roughly 22,000 students are full-time equivalents. Between 18-22% of students take courses online, with 400-450 online course sections offered per term.
Prior to 2005, PCC used a course design checklist to review online courses for quality. In 2005, they adopted a simplified version of the Quality Matters rubric. By 2007, courses were reviewed at the "70% level" using Quality Matters.

PCC’s ILAG Grant Project created a collaborative effort between PCC’s 3 campuses to design and develop a simulation based teaching opportunity in the Introduction to Business class. Our Big Idea was to introduce the commercial “CEO” simulation into the entry level business class. The CEO simulation is designed to give students the opportunity to make the decisions necessary to start and manage a business by embedding the simulation into their class.

Open Course Library Update
The Open Course Library is a project to design and share 81 high-enrollment gateway courses across Washington state community and technical colleges to improve completion rates and lower textbook costs for students. Phase 1 made 42 courses available in 2011 using various tools, while Phase 2 will deliver 39 more courses in 2013 using Google Docs for a more collaborative design process. Adopting the free open educational resources from these courses could save students up to $41 million per year in textbook costs if 25% of faculty adopt them. Lessons from Phase 1 informed improvements to project timelines and use of a single collaborative tool for Phase 2.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
