Student Support in the Academy Context

Editor's Notes

  1. Academy is first line of defense. Don’t expect others to save you.
  2. Include academy teachers, counselor, special education, admin, parents, etc.
  3. Definitions matter – how will you identify those needing support?
  4. Use your toolbox of strategies to support students: In-class workshops, tutoring, after school, Saturday school, etc.
  5. Pyramid of intervention model (DuFour) used by some schools. This example is from a school in Canada. Also, be sure to ensure ALIGNMENT to actual needs and EVALUATION of strategies to determine success.
