The Importance Of Liberal Education
Education nowadays is typically seen merely as something students must endure before they
enter the real world. Students who ace all of their classes are looked upon with admiration and
promised that they will go far in life. While grades are an important part of the educational
system, simply learning facts in school is not all that it takes to be a contributing member of
society. William Cronon makes excellent points in his article Only Connect... in which he lists
the ten qualities he believes are required for a person to be liberally educated. Based on this list,
I don t feel as though I am where I could be at this point in my academic career. While I can claim
to excel with certain qualities like listening intently and being able to talk with anyone, there are
many aspects that I am unable to relate to, such as being able to write clearly or solve a variety
of puzzles. By understanding the importance of a liberal education, hopefully we, as a society,
can learn to connect with others and make a difference in our communities, and ultimately our
world. Based on Cronon s list, it would be difficult to attain each and every one of these
qualities. He even states at one point that a liberal education is not something any of us ever
achieve... While it may not be an acquirable goal, it is something that we should strive for in order
to better ourselves and those around us. In my own life, I struggle with the second aspect of these
qualities, being able to read and

Marketing Concept Of Marketing Concepts
Marketing is about connecting the value of a product, service or brand to customers or consumer
for the resolve of encouraging or selling that product, service, or brand. The concepts of Marketing
are: Production concept, Product concept, selling concept, Marketing concept and Societal

Production concept: Production concept deals with production. Customer wants that product which
is widely available and has a less price.
Product concept: Production concept believes in customers and it says customers are likely to be
more loyal. As well as customers favor that products, which offer them, better Quality, performances

Magazine Advertisements Have Unhealthy Effects On Young Women

Mass media and Society

Magazine Advertisements Have Unhealthy Effects On Young Women Advertisers often emphasize
sexuality and the importance of physical attractiveness in an attempt to sell products, but
researchers are concerned that this places pressure on women to focus more on their appearances.
As stated in an article from Body Image and Advertising, the average woman sees 400 to 600
advertisements per day and by the time she is 17 years old, she has received over 250,000
commercial messages through the media. While only 9% of advertisements have a direct statement
about beauty, many more implicitly emphasize the importance of beauty particularly those that
target both women and girls. (HealthyPlace) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers who have done content analysis of girls magazines suggest that unrealistic beauty
images and focus on traditional femininity may damage girls self esteem. (Melissa A. Milkie.
191). Upon years of looking in the mirror and not liking what they have seen, young women
often become unhappy to the point of depression when comparing themselves to those with a
more developed body image (Meg Kramer). Depression is a mood disorder that causes a
persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest and affects how you feel, think, behave, and can
lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Statistics prove that the strongest risk factor
for suicide is depression and 15% of those who are clinically depressed die by suicide (ANAD).
Constant unhappiness with appearance can cause an individual to have a mental distortion of
themselves thinking they are overweight or unattractive and can be perceived as problematic if the
individual tries to fix themselves. Although some researchers believe that advertisers purposely
normalize unrealistically thin bodies, in order to create an unattainable desire that can drive
product consumption, the result poses serious potential harm to young women who view the images

Abstract
CNX Nifty being an important barometer to indicate country s growth has always been
followed with lots of interest from both academia and industry. Now, CNX Nifty could be
predicted or not on a random basis gives rise to many a questions. This sounds redolent with any
predictive modeling though with a certain degree of accuracy in built in to the system. The major
point of consideration is that predictive modeling could be done by various measures and
mechanisms. In predictive modeling Multiple Adaptive Regression (MARS), Classification and
Regression Trees (CART), Logistic OLS or Non Linear OLS could be used. Here in this study the
researcher has utilized Neural Network as a Predictive Modeler to predict CNX Nifty closing on
certain random time zones under consideration.

The Short Stories And Poems
Since starting this course of American Literature we have cover so much material. We have read
several short stories and poems. We analyzed these stories and poems. We have discussed the
main points and main Components of these stories and poems. We have also learned about the
authors of these stories and poems. I would like to introduce the stories we discussed and what I
have learned from these stories in Exam 1.
We first studied African American folktales. Folktales are stories that have been handed down from
generation to generation. The first short story we read was When Brer Deer and Brer Terrapin
runned a race. This short story is an animal tale about them racing to marry the same character in
the story. In this story Brer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with wealth than doing the right thing and he wanted to say he know nothing of the gold to make

vanity is a sin in itself. the people of Hadley burg wanted incoruppible, although they all had secrets,
were judgmental and were only concerned with making the surrounding towns jealous. Sin and

The Wonderful Tar Baby Story I think is a short story that is telling you that you should not lose
you temper and keep your cool. Losing you temper could put you in an unforseen predicament that
you may not be able to get out of. The rabbit lost his temper when Tar baby would not answer him
and he hit him until he was complete stuck in the tar and could not get lose.
As I read How Mr. Rabbit Was Too Sharp for Mr. Fox I feel like the lesson with this story is
reverse Psychology. The rabbit was caught and told the fox drown me, skin me and pretty much
do what ever you want with me just do not throw me in the briar patch. When really he did not
want the fox to do any of those things in reality he wanted the fox to throw him in the briar patch
so he could get away and in the end that is exactly what happen. The fox threw him in the briar

Yard Signs
One assumption I have generally made when it comes to politics and elections is that campaign
managers know what they re doing, and everything is rooted in numbers. Shows like Scandal
made me think that a campaign manager could point to a graph to show why X strategy works
best. When looking at the research this week over yard signs and after class discussion, I was
surprised at how untrue that can be.
As I ve mentioned in previous papers, measuring certain treatments can be difficult with how many
factors have to be controlled for, and trying to find ways to measure intangible things like impact of
yard signs on voter turnout and more. This issue makes good research especially interesting, like
that performed by Green et al. These researchers performed 4 different experiments, treating a
different number of precincts each time. They treated areas in upstate New York, Albany, Fairfax
County, Virginia, and Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Different treatments had different
salience levels, as well as placement and type of sign. Some signs were true yard signs, others
were road signs. Results are best quoted from researchers: it appears that signs typically have a

al to be the best part of reading this week. Research was designed well to control for multiple
variables, and the randomization component helped look at pooling over and other factors that
needed to be considered. I found through class discussion how frustrating it can be to come up with
what to measure, and how to measure it. Quantifying things like voter intent is difficult. With most
research we have read and discussed, I find it hard to understand controlling for voters who would
have voted anyway. When social scientists count their vote in research, is it skewing the data at

The Use Of Tone In Robert Browning s My Last Duchess
There is nothing more telling of an individual than the way they present themselves. Speech is an
incredibly powerful means of expression, and often gives deeper insight into who one is as a
person. My Last Duchess by Robert Browning explores the complexity of tone in a way that is
both effective and powerful. The poem is narrated by the Dukeof Ferrara, who is speaking to an
envoy about a painting of his previous duchess. He recounts the memories behind the artwork in an
ominous and snide manner, giving the reader insight on the nature of their relationship. Tone is a
major literary element in the poem that not only paints the Duke as a monster, but also makes the
piece more effective. Browning utilizes subtle figurative language that is... Show more content on

The irony in his tone is used primarily when the Duke postulates how his wife behaved around
other men. His sarcastic, demeaning speech shines through when he states she had a heart how
shall I say? too soon made glad (21 22). Not only does this line deliver verbal irony, it also gives
insight on the Duke s perception of his wife. Though he has no concrete evidence for her
suspicious behavior, he does not hesitate to passively critique her. Browning additionally
develops this critical personality when the Duke fantasizes about the gifts his wife received
from other men. He mentions a bough of cherries some officious fool broke in the orchard for
her (27 28) and how this gift would draw from her alike the approving speech (30). Though a gift
of cherries is nothing significant, the Duke is annoyed by it. He does not want his wife to thank
the men, because her approving speech is too generous and flirtatious. The image of the cherries
from the orchard is something that the Duke s mind curated. It s his imagination, and that s a
technique Browning utilizes to emphasize the Duke s jealous personality. The imagery itself is
powerful, but when paired with the images created by the Duke s tone, the poem gains even more

Personal Cheating Strategy
When it comes to betting, everyone wants to win. Everyone want to win and take their earnings
home. Oftentimes, players seek an efficient strategy capable of making them a winner. By being
smart and witty, a lot of players do just that. Since the conception of betting, players risked a loss
for the sake of winning. However, the chance of everyone winning remains minimal. Therefore,
every ambitious player needs a strategy. By having a strategy, the chances of winning greatly
increase. When using a strategy, players win because of both statistical data and luck.
Moreover, the positive progression betting system remains one of the premier strategic choices.
Numerous players achieve success while using it. Moreover, the strategy performs well when
used on craps, roulette, baccarat, and blackjack. Should a player use this strategy, they need to
consider a few things. Players who use this strategy must know how to use it. In particular,
players have to increase their bet during a win. When or if they start losing, they have to decrease
their bet. On the outside, it looks easy to do. However, making an accurate prediction remains
complicated. Therefore, numerous players do not know when the next lucky streak will take place
or when it will end. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to never experiencing long series of losses, the system remains a favorite among players. In
spite of being compatible with a majority of casino games, esteemed players agree the strategy
works best during a game of craps. In order to achieve the desired result, players should consider
accumulating enough small wins before they consider raising the stakes. Players should never
disregard the importance of the aforementioned sentence. Doing so would have a detrimental

Bystander Effect In Cancer
Bystander effect in cancer
Cancer is defined as unregulated growth of cells that deviate from usual cellular activities (NIH,
2015). This includes the development of tumors and eventually the invasion of other tissues.
Metastasis of tumor cell undergoes multiple steps: invasion, intravasation, extravasation, survival
and proliferation (Sethi Kang, 2011; Van Zijl, Krupitza, Mikulits, 2011). As GJPs have been
described to provide a conduit for intracellular communication, it has been shown in many reports
where connexin channels provided the means of initial metastatic lesion formation to the
vasculature. Once the metastatic tumor cells invade into the blood circulation (intravasation), these
cells will then be able to spread to other locations (i.e. from the breast to the brain).

When cells were treated with NS 398 (suppresses COX2 activity), bystander spread to
neighboring cells were drastically reduced (Zhou et al., 2005). The spread of irradiated tumor
cells to normal cells is dependent on the coupling strength of the GJC and/or the permeability.
The effects of COX2 being coexpressed with either Cx32 or Cx26 showed contrasting results.
With the induced expression of Cx26, propagation of radiation damage to neighboring DNA can
be seen (figure (1,2)). On the contrary, the expression of Cx32 helped reduce the spread through
bystander effect (Zhao, de Toledo, Hu, Hei, Azzam, 2014). Since different subtypes of connexins
have a different permeability to signaling molecules, Cx32 may have a lower permeability to
different secondary messengers. In cells expressing COX2 knockdown, the coupling of Cx26 to
AG1522 cells (bystander human fibroblasts) were drastically delayed (delay of bystander effect)
(Zhao et al., 2014). Thus, it may present clues to pathways regulating GJIC in radiotherapy

Batman And Byronic Hero
The Byronic hero is immortalized as the bridge between epic hero and an anti hero, in between
with the romantic and tragic hero as well. The main key elements that are present in many Byronic
heroes is their sense of darkness and social exile, the struggle for acceptance not only from
themselves but also from society, and finally internal traumas that were caused from past events.
One of the modern characters that immortalizes the Byronic herois DC Comics, Batman. From the
original comic books, to television adaptations, and finally to the big screen, there is a lot of
material that helps fixate him as a truly Byronic hero all the way from his childhood to his adult
and even afterlife years. Without describing all of the aspects, there... Show more content on

In addition to this, another downfall is the loss of childhood sweetheart, Rachel Dawes by Two
Face. She was the only one outside Bruce Wayne s inner circle that knew who he truly was, and
how he felt about his way and life. As a result of her death, not only does he want revenge on
Two Face, but he tries to compensate for the void that was created by her loss. He does this by
starting many failed relationships that turned sour such as those with Poison Ivy and
Catwoman, to name a few. These are illustrative of the pessimistic demeanor that Batman has
towards the outside because of what he has seen firsthand, and how he reacted to it. Lastly,
Bruce Wayne uses his massive wealth and intelligence to build gadgets, utilities, and tools all in
an effort to stop villains most of whom are not mortal. We have to realize that Batman is still a
mortal man, and can be killed if due so. Therefore, not only does he have the intelligence to build
whatever to defeat his foes, but he also has the cunningness to defeat them as well. This is
evident in the Batman television series from 1966 to 1969, with Adam West. Moreover, many of
these works that he creates has also caused him lots of pain and trouble that he self situated
himself in. One of the key examples is him battling Bane, where all his utilities has no use, and he
was pummeled by him. All of these aspects of the Byronic hero can be

Kiwi Forest Birds
Before pests were introduced into New Zealand, it was home to thousands of birds and these all
evolved without the threat of predatory land mammals. Except for two species of bat, there were
no land mammals in New Zealand before humans arrived. Because of this, plants and animals did
not evolve defence mechanisms or any way to protect themselves from the predators. For
instance, the leaves of plants do not contain poisons to deter browsing mammals, while many
birds and insects have lost their ability to fly. Possums, rats, stoats, ferrets and feral cats all kill
adult birds, their chicks and raid their nests for eggs. They are also major competitors for

Essay On Becoming A Republican
The way that I grew up was out in rural Memphis, Tennessee. Therefore, I was raised to be a
Christian and a republican. But my family was slightly different than the rest of the people I

what both democrats and republicans had to say and they agree a little with both. So, that is
how I am today, I would not go and vote for someone just because they are a republican. If there
is a person that is democrat, but brings to the table more ideas that I agree with then I am more
likely to vote for them. It depends on what the person has to say, not what party they are in. I have

Dear Mr. Jefferies, After considering the company s internal and external analysis, it is clear that
Abercrombie and Fitch need to implement a new strategy for future success. Considering
consumer trends, and the company s current outlook, changes need to be made. The strategies I
recommend are to market the company as a more receptive brand in the United States as well as
looking to penetrate international markets while closing down underperforming US stores. With
consumer trends of online shopping being on the rise, Abercrombie and Fitch can look to close

Considering that international expansion incurs lots of capital costs, it is a strategy that you should
slowly implement and keep taking note on the returns of investment. The benefits the company will
receive include sustainable profit growth, increase market penetration and improvement of your
brand s reputation.
Key Issues Abercrombie and Fitch Co. is a men and women s clothing company which is built on
the philosophy of not trying to be all things of all people, meaning, not everyone is able to
identify themselves and relate to the brand. Their current CEO, Mike Jefferies, is faced with the
issue to decide whether the firm should expand its direct to consumer and international sales. By
doing so, he would be looking to close down domestic stores in the United States. This issue have
appeared due to the company missing Wall Street s estimates in 2011, thus experiencing a drop in
shares. Although sales have increased domestically, the company had to use price discounts in
order to drive those sales, thus lower gross profit, and creating an unsustainable strategy for the
future. As a result, he ponders whether to close down the lower yielding domestic stores and
concentrating on online and international expansion.

I grew up in the suburbs on the North side of Fort Worth, Texas, more specifically Keller, Texas.
Keller had a population close to 40,000 people by the time I left for Texas A M, but when I first
arrived there the population was only about 20,000 people. It is a growing town with a ton of
commodities and things to do, new activities are always popping up, such as the new movie theater
that was just built 5 miles away from my house. Being part of the suburbs of Fort Worth, it is
mostly organized in housing developments, with shopping centers scattered around. In each

Music has a big impact on my life, it is one of my favorite things in the world. My music library is
so diverse, so it is hard for me to pick my favorite genre, from hip hop to rock to country. I find it all
tasteful. If I had to say may favorite though it would be alternative rock, mostly because my
favorite band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their bass lines are amazing, and their music has so
much heart and emotion in it, it s something that everyone can jam along to. My least favorite
would have to be screamo, an off shoot of metal. It is just too angry and you cannot understand
anything the singer is saying, it isn t something that is easy for me to appreciate. The Hobbit is
my favorite book, the ore behind it keeps me interested and the way it is written is a completely
different style than today s writing. The writing style almost seems archaic but it has an
elegance to it that is extremely difficult to achieve. My upperclassmen are the heroes in my life

Vodka Memories of My Past
I have come to the conclusion that the past, which is merciless and perilous, is a foreign country,
and it cannot be altered. The past lives differently from the present, just as the future will live
differently from the very moment you begin to breathe air. Yet somewhere in the back of my mind
is this obsession. Whether this obsession has been drawn from the idea that my future will stay the
same as this exact moment is speculation, which I shall ignore till the day I die.
The other day I was looking at a ship, now in dreams ships can be glorious and beautiful or they
can hold every shattered dream. You can watch them sail away with distain, or pleasure. It s been
long told that if you see a ship in the distance, all of your dreams and aspirations sit staring back
at you. But the ships already gone you can t chase those dreams as you can in the movies, when the
girl runs after the train, praying that the man will see and get off.
I have a single packet of cigarettes, sitting in the middle of an empty room. Yes, they are for
emergencies. That one moment that I feel myself break and I mean truly break, I shall rush to this

fresh start, turning over the page, and getting ready to stain the whiteness with a tea stain, ringing
the corner, and destroying the purity.

Electric Charge And The Electric Field
EXPERIMENT #1: ELECTRIC CHARGE AND THE ELECTRIC FIELD PHY 2092 10 By:
Kamal Aljohani Date Performed: 12 January 2015 Date Submitted: 30 January 2015 Lab

of this experiment is to analyze the static electricity, electrical charge, charge grounding, inducing
charge, and electric polarization. We used two wands that created positive and negative charges
when rubbed together one is blue and the other is white. We put one of the wands inside the pail
attached to the electrometer to read the wand s voltage. In the second part of the experiment, a
conductive sphere was applied 2000 volts, and voltage s readings were taken at different locations

When we used both wands, the electrometer almost read zero volts throughout the duration of the
experiment. This proves that the negativity of the particles on the blue wand were equal to the
positive charge of the particles on the white wand; so it cancelled each other out. While using
the both wands we encountered an error. The voltage should have been zero when the wands
was out the pail and not touching the pail; however the electrometer reading was 3 volt. This is
most likely due to a random error in measurement due to a faulty electrometer or pail. The
electrometer may have not been sensitive enough to pick up all the charged particles when the
wands were not out the pail we should have repeated this so we can get accurate readings.

Genre Analysis Essay
No matter which type of job or career the author is looking for, a resume is a great first step.
Generally, resumes are built and created in early adulthood by the author them self. There are a few
things that can be assumed about the authors. First, they are middle to upper class individuals who
like to show off their own personal qualifications, education, and academic and professional
experiences they have obtained throughout their life. The audiencein which will be looking over
these resumes could be a pretty broad range generally speaking, but for the most part whoever the
authoris submitting the resume to will be the intended audience for this genre. I think it is safe to
say this genre will be around for many years to come,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The example of the author wanting to become a teacher states, Excellent background and proven
success in helping children reach their full potential (O Neill). This statement clearly states that
she has been a teacher in the past and has proof that she has helped her students to success and
reach their full potential. Not only are the qualifications important but also the education in which
the author has had. Under the education portion of the content it tells the audience where the
author went to school and which type of degree they earned at the school and in what year.
Another category placed on a resume is the academic and professional experience the author has
had prior to creating their resume. The author who is applying for a business job placed under her
academic and professional experience that she was a part of All Talk Radio in Terre Haute, Indiana
where she was the Vice President of Marketing. The author states while being a part of All Talk

The Egg Drop Experiment
An egg is a fragile object that breaks when a small amount of force acts upon it, but many people
have tried to prevent it from breaking when it falls by building contraptions for it. The egg drop
experiment is generally used as an experiment to teach students about the concepts of physics.
There are many ways to prevent an eggfrom breaking when it falls. One example is to use a
parachute to slow down the descent of the egg. Another example is to wrap the egg in bubble
wrap to cushion the egg s landing. The technique you decide to use determines the results that you
get. I have always been interested in doing an egg drop experiment because it involves building

Policy Analysis
Executive Summary
The city of East Wallingford, a rapidly growing community of 45,000 people has been plagued by
chronic traffic congestion which brings average trip times during peak hours far below State
standards for the community of this size. The officials of the city are seeking to solve this problem
and have asked for assistance from the Community Transportation Planning Division of the State
Department of Transportation.
Considering the situation this policy analysis paper is aiming to asses the possible alternatives to the
ineffective current transportation policy in East Wallingford. Federal money is available for
implementing four alternative transportation policies: constructing a Southern or a Northern
Bypass, widening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
III. Current Policy Description. Current Policy Effectiveness and Efficiency
According to the Preliminary Problem Analysis prepared by the Junior Policy Analyst of the
Community Transportation Planning Division of SDOT M. Ubahn at the moment East
Wallingford is served by two state highways. Route 146 (Nottingham Road), a north south arterial,
passes through the western side of the city. Route 9, an east west arterial, passes through the
center of East Wallingford, and connects to Route 146, which is its Western terminus. In the
central business district, Route 9 is actually divided for 1.5 miles to allow for one way traffic
flows. Route 9E is known as State Street; Route 9W is known as Main Street. Three miles south of
the central business district on Route 146 is an interchange for Interstate 59.
Traffic flows are unacceptably heavy on Route 146 and on Main (Route 9W) and State (Route
9E) Streets. During peak travel hours (7:30 AM to 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM), average
trip times are far below State standards for a community of this size. Trips between point A and
point B in either direction, a distance of 4.5 miles, require 30 minutes on average.
City officials want average trip time in this corridor to be reduced to 15 minutes. While this seems
to be a reasonable goal, application of SDOT standards in this case suggests it should be seen as a
target, rather than as an absolute cutoff.

Film is an art form that has the power to influence its audience by creating impactful messages.
Don Siegel cunningly and cleverly utilizes film grammar and the mise en scene to promote a

Dirty Harry and its controversial political message. Some believe that the filmis a visual
embodiment of how the Warren Court went too far in regulating the way police officials do their

Suleiman the Magnificent
The Ottoman Empire was an empire lasting from 1299 to 1923. Osman was leading the small
Ottoman Empire in 1299 in western Anatolia and he was slowly extending his settlements away
from his Muslim neighbors. It was not allowed for Muslims to kill other Muslims. He had a
number of soldiers called the Ghazis who were brave, loyal and fearless. These solders helped
Osman tread into unknown land and spread his rule. Osman s name was becoming more known

If an enemy doesn t strike from outside, an enemy may strike from inside. A civil war can cause
many deaths and disrupt the focus of any leader. Suleiman would have to put all of his attention
to people fighting inside his nation instead of focusing on incoming attacks from the outside. A
lot of empires have fallen due to internal attacks. Interaction with other sectors was not too often
which helps people be in an environment where everyone follows the same religion. There is
also almost no interference from the government on how the leader chooses to run the Millets.
Things like taxes and sometimes even laws aren t checked by the government because there aren

backgrounds can now enter a land where they don t have to be feared of not being able to walk

come to this culturally diverse and peaceful land to trade their goods, instead of going to Europe
where only one religion was accepted: Christianity. Suleiman put out the laws on streets so that all
could read and understand what is allowed and what is not. This was important because now
everyone knew the difference between right and wrong. This also prevented officials from making

President Woodrow Wilson s Declaration Of The War
On August 4, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson delivered his proclamation declaring the U.S. an
uninvolved neutral country in regard to WWI. The Great War, the war to end all wars was
wreaking havoc all across Europe, but the American public desired to stay neutral. Reasons for
neutrality included fear of losing loved ones, socialism because the war was believed to be to be
a capitalist venture to protect imperialism, the rise of pacifists who believed war was wrong for
any reason, and naturalized citizens afraid they would be forced to kill those from their old
county on the battlefield. But by April 2, 1917 the country had chosen to enter the war for
various reasons that were moral, economic and political. The U.S. was strongly justified in to
enter the war for moral reasons, substantially justified economically, but weakly politically
justified. Although the U.S. originally felt they should not enter the war for moral reasons,
ultimately moral reasons for entering the war were firmly justified. At first neutrality seemed like
the most effective way to keep peace for the American people. Some American citizens lived
abroad in the war zone areas, carrying on trade and business. According to Wilson, it was the duty
of a neutral government not to permit or suffer the making of its water subservient to the purposes
of war (Doc 1). Wilson hoped life for the Americans would remain peaceful during

The women figure lying on the ground looks as if she is dead. She lies there gazing up into
nowhere with a solid glare. Instead of the angel figure giving life to the figure lying down; it
seems as if the angel figure is taking the life of a baby from her, as she is now dead and the
angels are taking care of the baby. The angel figure from the horse reaches her arms out to grasp
the baby. All of the figures have the same hair color, blonde with slight curls. Along with the curls
we notice that the front angel figure s hair is being blown straight up; this will later be explained.
There are four figures and two horses in this painting. Each of the horses are centered and facing
horizontally with very few vertical lines. The majority of the painting is smooth flowing without
jagged, sharp or straight lines. In Pity there is darkness surrounding the characters, forcing the
figures to stand out with great measure in the light. The colors in the background do not convey
meaning to the picture. The background is dark and solemn, resembling blank space. The figures
in Pity seem to carry the meaning, as opposed to the background. Because there is darkness
surrounding the figures, there does not seem to be a source of the light, yet light does outline each
figure. It seems that Blake did this to focus on the figures and not the background. In this painting
the horses are painted grey. Grey is more of a monotone color resembling peace. The figure riding

Social Norms In Sociology
To start, I will discuss what social norms are. Societal norms are both unwritten informal rules
that are accepted by people and written formal rules that are strictly enforced laws, of how
people should carry themselves (Keirns, et al., 2016). Social norms are part of the socialization
process. The socialization process is the way people learn the norms and beliefs of our society to
fit in (Keirns, et al., 2016, n.p.). Some examples of social norms are looking into the eyes of the
person you are speaking with, using silverware instead of your hands when eating, and saying
excuse me when you belch in front of someone. Societal norms give myself and people guidelines
of how to carry themselves in different situations. More importantly, social... Show more content on

Gender role is described as the perception the society has on how males and females should carry
themselves in terms of appearance and behaviors. Some examples of perceptions the society has
on women in the home are, they need to know how to cook, take care of the children, and
manage the house. I applied this sociological concept because I see the perception evident in my
log. During my husband absence, I manage the house by making sure my daughter made it to
school, the house stayed clean and provided my children meals. When my husband is home, and
I am at work, he is usually taking on my role until I get back. When I do get back home from
work, my husband basically expects me to perform the gender role of a woman in the house.
Sociologists Schieman and Taylor (2001) studies stated women s role in the society are
traditionally revolved around tasked that are household related. They also stated that in the
society, men and women are expected to have different responsibilities within the home. Women s
central role is often linked to family, even while involved in the workforce, men s core role often
tends to be associated with paid employment (Schieman Taylor, 2001, p. 473). This verifies that the
examples I stated earlier about the perception the society has on the gender role of women are

Niemann Pick Disease Essay
Niemann Pick Disease
Niemann Pick Disease is an autosomal recessive disease, passed down through carrier parents,
where lipids gather in the cells of the spleen, liver, and brain creating an obstruction. There are
four known forms of the disease, Type A, Type B, Type C, and Type D, in which Type A and B
compose Type I and Type C and D make up Type II. Type A and B are a response to the lack of
the enzyme acid sphingomyelinase(ASM) which metabolizes sphingomyelin. When there is an
absence of sphingomyelinase the excess build up of sphingomyelin kills multiple cells stopping
organ function. Symptoms of Type A include: abdominal swelling, redness in the eye, feeding
difficulties, and loss of motor skills. Type A is the more severe of situations, not offering... Show

If Type C symptoms are present before the age of 1 it is not likely that the child will live to be
five, if symptoms arise during the school age it is possible that the child lives into their late teens,
and in some cases into their twenties. Type D is a variant of Type C, and is caused by a mutation
in the NPC2 gene, creating, an abnormality in the interaction between cholesterol and brain cells.
Type C is often noticed affecting Puerto Ricans, while Type D is frequently observed to affect
French Canadians. Type II is most commonly diagnosed with a skin biopsy, in which skin cells
would be observed while in the process of moving and storing cholesterol. In Addition, other tests
that may be performed are: bone marrow aspiration, a liver biopsy, slit lamp eye exam, and
sphingomyelinase assays. Miglustat has been given as treatment for Type C patients to decelerate
the nervous system symptoms, but there is no treatment yet for Type D. Due to the mutations in
DNA of Type C it is probable that a fetus could be diagnosed while in the womb in specialized
centers. Since both parents are carriers of this gene mutation, there is a 25% chance their child will

How Headphones And The Acoustic Transducer Became The Most...
Summary
In the 21st century, sound transducers became the most important building block in all electronic
devices. This element is employed into many products such as microphones, cellphones, radios,
probes, etc. Headphones, for instance, are based on the loudspeaker system which works thanks to
the acoustic transducer. They may look mundane in our daily life, but each element inside the
headphones denotes significant innovations in human history. How do headphones work and what
are the secrets that lie inside?
The objective of this essay is to describe and clarify the main technology that headphones employ.
Therefore, it will be explored different elements that make headphones so much used today such as
history, function principles, manufacturing and future development.
The history behind the headphones
The statement of the first headphones inventor can be a fine debatable topic, which is not the
goal of this essay. Thus, the historical background will be reviewed only to obtain the engineering
improvement for the acoustic transducer, while the statement for the creator of first true
headphones will be left at the reader s belief. Some people may associate headphones origin to the

Analysis Of The Lincoln Electric Company
Analysis of the Lincoln Electric Company
Upon review of the Lincoln Electric Company case study conducted by Arthur Sharpish of Harvard
University, I came to find that the culture within the company is what elevated Lincoln Electric
above all other companies in that field. When analyzing the report I considered many aspects of the
company in order to determine what exactly that separates Lincoln from their competition.
First, I examined the ongoing influence that has been exerted by the founders of the company.
Lincoln Electric was founded by James F. Lincoln at the turn of the 20th century. His influence in
leadership and his approach toward the customer has stood the test of time. James believed that the
success of his company lay with the customer and a motivated labor force.
It is obvious that the customer s interests, not the stockholder s, should come first. In 1947 he said,
Care should be taken ... not to rivet attention on profit. Between How much do I get? and How do I
make this better, cheaper, more useful? the difference is fundamental and decisive. (J, Lincoln)
James valued customer satisfaction above all else, which inevitably led to the innovation and
production of a great product that met the consumer s needs.
His views on employee retention continue to be a guide within the company. If fulfilling customer
needs is the desired goal of the company then employee performance and productivity are the
means by which this goal can best be achieved.

Website Analysis Essay
Website Analysis
Sometimes it seems like the computer game industry is dying, crushed to death by its own bulk.
Every year more and more gaming companies get gobbled up into huge conglomerates like
Electronic Arts, companies that mostly put out trash that is technically and visually impressive, but
devoid of concept and content. However, there are some small gaming companies that buck the
trend. While mostly just small groups of programmers and artists, some are huge unions of fans
who, irritated with the dropping quality of computer games, have decided to use the power of the
internet to get together and to produce games tailor made to their personal preferences.
For the sake of comparison, Electronic Arts website ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first level removed from EA Games is the small gaming company. Moonpod Games ( http:/
/www.moonpod.com/), a company made up of a small but skilled group of game makers who
previously worked under different companies making other games (some well known, some more
obscure), is a good representative of this kind of game producer.
Just because Moonpod is a small business doesn t mean it doesn t know its web design. The site
is very well done and much more informative than even the EA site it has to be, since the company
doesn t have the money to make separate sites every time it comes up with a new game.
The organization of the website itself is fairly basic. A centrally located news column makes
announcements about new features, patches, or game releases. A navigation bar on the left hand
side allows easy access to the different parts of the website, and beautiful, eye catching screenshots
on the right take one to a synopsis of the games from which they come (although the buttons on
the left do that as well). The contents of the center and right hand portions change when one
accesses a part of the site specific to one of the games, changing to a synopsis of and system
requirements for the game in the center, and screenshots and related links on the right. All in all, it
is a simple but effective design.
Without the funds available to a company like EA Games, Moonpod can t use its site simply to
advertise its products. It must

Happy New Year s Eve Everyone !
Happy New Year s Eve everyone!
Now going back to my previous blog, I promised to start off each blog with a story from my life, so
here goes nothing.
Now there was a time where, we were all kids. For some of you that might have been ten years
ago, and for others of you, that might have been last year aha! There was a time when I was
about 7 years old. Now, after my parents divorced, my mother, my sisters and I lived in an
apartment complex. My younger sister, Alexis (age 6), and I were quick to make friends with
our neighbors, a girl named Madison (age 6), and her younger brother named Parker (age 5). They
were a little younger than us, but they were just as animated and active as we were. Now, Parker
was quite the character, I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of a sudden, Parker loses control of the bike and starts to head down the hill. Alexis
immediately jumps off of the bike, and tells Parker to jump off, with Parker screaming, I can t
leave my Harley! Parker ends up at the bottom of the hill in the bushes of thorns crying, but still
trying to push his Harley up the hill. Madison runs home, and their parents come and takes Parker
s Harley out of the bushes and up the hill. His parents were very understanding when we told them
what happened, but Parker goes to say, I m not sure I can marry that gal after this!
Now thinking back on this story, I couldn t do anything except laugh! This story definitely put a
lot of things into perspective for me, when I relate it to my life experiences now. This story allows
me think about how I will approach things, going into the New Year. How I will approach conflict,
how I will approach drama, how I approach negativity. When thinking about those things, it gave
me three main points on how I can better myself, but also better the core of my heart.
1. Don t treat people how they treat you.
Going into 2016, this being one of the most important things you need to remember to grasp
onto. This was one of the biggest lessons I ve ran into this past year on multiple occasions.

Lennon, Paul also experimented with cocaine and heroin. If I were in Paul s shoes it would ve
been very hard to stay away from the drugs because they were all around him and being a rock
star gave him easy access to all of the drugs he wanted. I would have tried my best to stay away
from all of the drugs, and even if I did happen to use a bit now or then, I would use much less
than Paul did. Also, Paul made his affection for drugs, especially marijuana and LSD, very
public. I would ve kept that more to myself to keep a better public image. 11. Paul s life has had
an impact on millions of people around the world for many, many years. From the thousands of

Waknuk And The Fringes In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
People in this world mature in different ways, by the way, they have been affected in their life and
it builds up to someone who has responsibilities as an adult. Our difficult situations make us
overcome our responsibilities and achieve our goals due to our problems. People in communities
want to have safety and be proud of their work in the community that they have made for people
who are normal. The communities of Waknuk and The Fringes in The Chrysalids by John Wyndham
are very different and to overcome their difficulties they use their strengths to achieve goals and
bring others down when the Fringes are trying to overcome adversity and mature by understanding
their situation that they needto overcome. Joseph Storm has rules that are beliefs that have been
made for a long period of time and it leads to people not being allowed to act without clearly
proving their point that is not always accepted because of the beliefs that are not to be changed.
In our world, we need the advice to lead us to our decisions that are not always agreed upon. The
goals of the Waknuk community are strong and hurt others for their differences as a mutant. They
are respected, but people have fear and the Waknuk community is using that for their goals. Joseph
Storm does not let anyone accompaniment their ideas. He sees people not for whom they are, but
what they are. When David tells Joseph his idea that it is not a big deal being a mutant there is no

Puerto Rico American Culture Essay
Culture is a way that a particular group of people from the same background act. Like the way
they live or the way they speak their language, it could also be defined as the art of the culture
and the foods they eat, even the religion plays a role in culture. Puerto Rico is located in the
Caribbean and is east of the Dominican Republic and is also a part of the United States. In the
Puerto Rican culture, art, literature, music, and education are important to them in the 8 elements of
culture. In Puerto Rico, geography, modes of expression, values and religion, and social
organization show how the Puerto Rican culture is formed.
Geography is one of the elements that form the Puerto Rican culture. Puerto Rico is three times the
size of Rhode Island. In addition, the coastline is 501 km and they have constant droughts and

practices of their religion. The ceremonies include marriage, baptism, and funerals and are still

Dachau Concentration Camp Essay
In the early 1930s, the residents of the picturesque city of Dachau, Germany, were completely
unaware of the horrific events about to unfold that would overshadow their city still today. The
citizens of Dachau were oblivious that their city was going to become the origin of concentration
camps and of the Holocaust, the mass murder committed by the Nazi s in World War II. Dachau
Concentration Camp, which would soon be placed on the edge of their community, would serve as
a model for all Nazi extermination camps. This perfect prototype of a Nazi killing machine has
come to represent the start of the horror filled Holocaust and the Nazi s determination to achieve a
perfect society during World War II.

The bunker acted as a prison within a prison and served several functions. It was the central site
of cruelty; imprisonment in the bunker meant weeks without sufficient food and brutal beatings
by the SS guards. Joseph Ulc, a Czech musician, was arrested in 1939 for being a political
opponent to the Nazis and was sent to Dachau Concentration Camp. For allegedly planning to
escape, he was severely beaten and forced to spend two weeks in the bunker. It was horrible to be
in complete darkness all alone. I starved for three days before on the fourth day I was given

Often I shook my head in sheer disbelief, he said of his imprisonment in the bunker.
The SS guards also conducted interrogations in the underground rooms of the bunker. Often
prisoners were tortured in order to extract a confession. Twelve standing cells were added to the
bunker in 1944. With a surface area of only 490 square centimeters, prisoners in the cells could
neither sit, lie down, or take in sufficient oxygen. Behind the bunker, prisoners were whipped and
hung from poles.
The command area surrounded the prisoner camp. Nine guard towers, ditches, tall concrete walls,
and electrified barbed wire encircled the whole camp. A maintenance building and living quarters

Taking a Look at Cybercrime
Cybercrime
The misuse of computer systems has been a prevalent issue ever since the invention of computers.
In this digital age, cybercrime is the fastest growing categories of crime facing many nations. It is
pervasive and epidemic, threating billions of computer users and causing damages worth in
billions. Every year, the numbers of attacks are increasing in numbers and complexity. And as we
become more reliant on information systems, our security and privacy are in increasingly constant
threat of compromise. When planning online crime, cybercriminals employ different tactics for
various reasons. Their intention can be stealing money, obtaining valuable data, or simply revenge.
When the Internet was created, security was not taken into account. Most of the technologies we
depend on today have no effective security. The security issues of the internet are due to software
thinking everyone is playing by the rules. The design flaw allows cybercriminals to exploit and
deliberately cause software to perform tasks that not designed to do. Identity theft, hacking,
spamming, and digital piracy these are the few prevalent forms of cybercrimes.
Identity theft is increasingly becoming a prevalent form of cybercrime. Cybercriminals
misrepresent themselves by pretending to some else and use others personal information to open
accounts or use accounts that already exist. In 2014 22 million Americans had been victimized by..

Corn-Pone Opinions Essay
Brooke Brown
Mr. Williams
English III AP 7
21 November 2011
Corn Pone; Conformity Mark Twain, although quite the comedian, makes a valid point in Corn
Pone Opinions . The observation of humanity and its tendencies to follow what society promotes is
a relevant occurrence today. Twain leads on . . . that it s born of the humanbeing s natural yearning
to stand well with his fellows and have their inspiring approval and praise . . . (720). Humans are
not equipped to stand their own ground; they prefer to follow the leader. Twain puts it simply, we
are creatures of outside influences; as a rule we do not think, we only imitate (719). Twain clearly
makes his point noticeable to his audience, holding back no opinion throughout the ... Show more

Twain, attacking the willingness to change fashion without thinking first, speaks to women
closely. Twain states, One woman abandons the fashion; her neighbor notices this and follows
her lead; this influences the next woman; and so on and so on . . . (718). To this day women
continue to experience this identical process. Although one may love her Christmas sweater, if
her neighbor does not own one or wrinkles her nose at the idea of wearing such a thing, she will
immediately go home and dispose of the sweater without thinking twice about her actions or her
personal feelings toward the item of clothing. Twain also mentions how twenty five years ago
there would be six of eight wine glasses given to each person attending a dinner party, and they
were to be used, not left idle and empty , but today there are but three of four wine glasses and on
average and only two are sparingly emptied by each guest (719). Twain follows this observation by
expanding his opinion on conformity. He offers the idea that people follow certain trends without
thinking them through. The people attending these dinner parties have no idea why they only
consume two glasses when twenty five years ago people consumed three to four times as much.
Humans, in general, do not look for the answer to the question why? , but instead only worry about
what other people do and if their actions are satisfactory to those surrounding them. Twain also

The Cause And Effects Of Climate Change
It is obvious that climate change is real, and humans are having an inordinate impact on the natural
processes of the earth. This impact is leading to changes in the storm system of the Atlantic Ocean.
The increase in overall global temperatures is leading to an increase in ocean surface temperatures.
When looking at the process of hurricane creation, it is clear that this increase in temperature will
affect the creation of tropical storms. Warmer oceans create more intense hurricanes. Also,
historical records provide definitive proof of an increase in hurricane activity in the Atlantic. Over
the past few centuries, increases in size, intensity and rainfall have been detected by thousands of
scientists. Scientific models such as those created by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change) suggest an increase in intensity of tropical cyclones due to anthropogenic changes.
These changes are detrimental to society and are a direct consequence of human induced climate
change. If climate change continues to worsen, so will the intensity and effect of tropical storms.
The increase in sea surface temperaturedue to human activity is unquestionably contributing to an
upsurge in intensity of tropical storms and hurricanes. When one looks at the science of how
hurricanes are formed from tropical storms, it is only logical that increased ocean temperatures will
increase the intensity. Tropical storms are formed when the air above the ocean cools faster than
the surface

Obergefell Vs Hodges
As a general rule, constitutional law examination differs depending on the nature of the right that
is being asserted in a case. In the Constitution people have various rights such as freedom of
speech, freedom of religion, etc. Other rights in the Constitution are not presented in the
Constitution, but they are arguably stated within its context. In this paper I will agree that the
Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges was right in affirming the equal rights of same sex
couples based on the due process clause of the fourteenth amendment. The Court s ruling in this
case has an effect on the legal rights of children of same sex couples, the rights of people who

Hodges concluded that the right to marry is a fundamental right inherent in the liberty of a person
protected by the Constitution. The Court has long afforded the right to marry constitutional
protection. But the standard test for identifying a fundamental right under the Due Process Clause
is that the right must be deeply rooted in this Nation s history and tradition (Washington Post) .
However, the majority opinion went further to find that the liberties implied within the Fourteenth
Amendment Due Process Clause have stretched to certain personal choices central to a person s
dignity and autonomy, including their intimate choices that define personal identity and beliefs
(Washington Post) . Using this idea, the majority opinion concluded that the liberty interest to
marry extends to same sex couples. The ruling has helped gay rights advocates fight more than a
hundred and fifteen pieces of legislation that were introduced in state legislatures that were
targeting gay people. The majority opinion agreed that the Constitution contemplates that
democracy is the appropriate process for change. In addition to clearing the way for same sex
marriage nationwide, Friday s decision may help end discrimination against gays and lesbians in
other matters, such as adoption and custody rights, legal experts say (LATimes) . Gay couples can
now have no problem matters when wanting to start a family because of the great decision made by
the Supreme Court. Justice Kennedy s majority opinion in the United States v. Windsor, which
struck down a federal law denying benefits to married same sex couples, and exactly twelve years
after his majority opinion in Lawrence v. Texas, which struck down laws making gay sex a crime.
In all his decisions Justice Kennedy embraced a vision of a living Constitution, one that evolves
with societal changes (NYTimes) . Kennedy makes a great point that the generations before wrote

Evaluate two models of one cognitive process
Cecilia Nguyen Evaluate two models of one cognitive process This essay will be discussing one
particular cognitive process: the memory by evaluating two models, which are the Multi store
model introduced by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968 and the Working memory model by Baddeley
and Hitch in 1974. The first model is the multi store model. It was first proposed by Atkinson and
Shiffrin in 1968 and is a typical example of the information processing approach. According to this
model, memory consists of three types of memory stores: sensory stores, short term store and long
term store. Sensory stores consist of the eyes, nose, fingers, tongue, etc and the corresponding area
of the brain. The sensory stores... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The visuo spatial sketchpad when planned a spatial task and it saves memory temporarily. The
episodic buffer is the general store, it integrates info from the central executive, the phonological
loop and the visuo spatial sketchpad and forms long term store. Research evidence for the
working model of memory varies. Case studies of brain damaged patients support this model a
lot. The case study of KF a brain damaged patient with no problem with long term learning but
some aspects of his immediate memory were impaired. This has proven that the working model of
memory was right when suggesting that short term store works independently of long term store.
In addition to evidence supporting this model, Baddeley and Hitch did a research on making
participants do two tasks using the same or different components. Task one occupied the central
executive, task two either involved the articulatory loop or both the central executive and the
articulatory loop. Speed on task one was the same whether using the articulatory loop or no extra
task. This shows that doing two tasks that involve the same component causes difficulty. It also
suggested that when two different components are used, performance is not affected. Even though
the working model of memory is better than the multi store model, it still has some weaknesses.
For example the role of the central executive is vague and it needs more research. Also there were
problems with

  • 2. The Importance Of Liberal Education Education nowadays is typically seen merely as something students must endure before they enter the real world. Students who ace all of their classes are looked upon with admiration and promised that they will go far in life. While grades are an important part of the educational system, simply learning facts in school is not all that it takes to be a contributing member of society. William Cronon makes excellent points in his article Only Connect... in which he lists the ten qualities he believes are required for a person to be liberally educated. Based on this list, I don t feel as though I am where I could be at this point in my academic career. While I can claim to excel with certain qualities like listening intently and being able to talk with anyone, there are many aspects that I am unable to relate to, such as being able to write clearly or solve a variety of puzzles. By understanding the importance of a liberal education, hopefully we, as a society, can learn to connect with others and make a difference in our communities, and ultimately our world. Based on Cronon s list, it would be difficult to attain each and every one of these qualities. He even states at one point that a liberal education is not something any of us ever achieve... While it may not be an acquirable goal, it is something that we should strive for in order to better ourselves and those around us. In my own life, I struggle with the second aspect of these qualities, being able to read and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Magazine Advertisements Have Unhealthy Effects On Young Women Ali Olmstead Mass media and Society Mr. Hight 16 November 2014 Magazine Advertisements Have Unhealthy Effects On Young Women Advertisers often emphasize sexuality and the importance of physical attractiveness in an attempt to sell products, but researchers are concerned that this places pressure on women to focus more on their appearances. As stated in an article from Body Image and Advertising, the average woman sees 400 to 600 advertisements per day and by the time she is 17 years old, she has received over 250,000 commercial messages through the media. While only 9% of advertisements have a direct statement about beauty, many more implicitly emphasize the importance of beauty particularly those that target both women and girls. (HealthyPlace) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers who have done content analysis of girls magazines suggest that unrealistic beauty images and focus on traditional femininity may damage girls self esteem. (Melissa A. Milkie. 191). Upon years of looking in the mirror and not liking what they have seen, young women often become unhappy to the point of depression when comparing themselves to those with a more developed body image (Meg Kramer). Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest and affects how you feel, think, behave, and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Statistics prove that the strongest risk factor for suicide is depression and 15% of those who are clinically depressed die by suicide (ANAD). Constant unhappiness with appearance can cause an individual to have a mental distortion of themselves thinking they are overweight or unattractive and can be perceived as problematic if the individual tries to fix themselves. Although some researchers believe that advertisers purposely normalize unrealistically thin bodies, in order to create an unattainable desire that can drive product consumption, the result poses serious potential harm to young women who view the images ... This sounds redolent with any predictive modeling though with a certain degree of accuracy in built in to the system. The major point of consideration is that predictive modeling could be done by various measures and mechanisms. In predictive modeling Multiple Adaptive Regression (MARS), Classification and Regression Trees (CART), Logistic OLS or Non Linear OLS could be used. I would like to introduce the stories we discussed and what I have learned from these stories in Exam 1. We first studied African American folktales. • 8. Yard Signs One assumption I have generally made when it comes to politics and elections is that campaign managers know what they re doing, and everything is rooted in numbers. Shows like Scandal made me think that a campaign manager could point to a graph to show why X strategy works best. When looking at the research this week over yard signs and after class discussion, I was surprised at how untrue that can be. As I ve mentioned in previous papers, measuring certain treatments can be difficult with how many factors have to be controlled for, and trying to find ways to measure intangible things like impact of yard signs on voter turnout and more. This issue makes good research especially interesting, like that performed by Green et al. These researchers performed 4 different experiments, treating a different number of precincts each time. They treated areas in upstate New York, Albany, Fairfax County, Virginia, and Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Different treatments had different salience levels, as well as placement and type of sign. Some signs were true yard signs, others were road signs. Results are best quoted from researchers: it appears that signs typically have a modest effect on advertising candidates vote shares an effect that is probably greater than zero but unlikely to be large enough to alter the outcome of a contest that would ... • 9. The Use Of Tone In Robert Browning s My Last Duchess There is nothing more telling of an individual than the way they present themselves. Speech is an incredibly powerful means of expression, and often gives deeper insight into who one is as a person. My Last Duchess by Robert Browning explores the complexity of tone in a way that is both effective and powerful. The poem is narrated by the Dukeof Ferrara, who is speaking to an envoy about a painting of his previous duchess. He recounts the memories behind the artwork in an ominous and snide manner, giving the reader insight on the nature of their relationship. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The irony in his tone is used primarily when the Duke postulates how his wife behaved around other men. His sarcastic, demeaning speech shines through when he states she had a heart how shall I say? too soon made glad (21 22). Not only does this line deliver verbal irony, it also gives insight on the Duke s perception of his wife. Though he has no concrete evidence for her suspicious behavior, he does not hesitate to passively critique her. Browning additionally develops this critical personality when the Duke fantasizes about the gifts his wife received from other men. He mentions a bough of cherries some officious fool broke in the orchard for her (27 28) and how this gift would draw from her alike the approving speech (30). Though a gift of cherries is nothing significant, the Duke is annoyed by it. He does not want his wife to thank the men, because her approving speech is too generous and flirtatious. The image of the cherries from the orchard is something that the Duke s mind curated. It s his imagination, and that s a technique Browning utilizes to emphasize the Duke s jealous personality. • 11. Bystander Effect In Cancer Bystander effect in cancer Cancer is defined as unregulated growth of cells that deviate from usual cellular activities (NIH, 2015). This includes the development of tumors and eventually the invasion of other tissues. Metastasis of tumor cell undergoes multiple steps: invasion, intravasation, extravasation, survival and proliferation (Sethi Kang, 2011; Van Zijl, Krupitza, Mikulits, 2011). As GJPs have been described to provide a conduit for intracellular communication, it has been shown in many reports where connexin channels provided the means of initial metastatic lesion formation to the vasculature. Once the metastatic tumor cells invade into the blood circulation (intravasation), these cells will then be able to spread to other locations (i.e. from the breast to the brain). When cells were treated with NS 398 (suppresses COX2 activity), bystander spread to neighboring cells were drastically reduced (Zhou et al., 2005). The spread of irradiated tumor cells to normal cells is dependent on the coupling strength of the GJC and/or the permeability. The effects of COX2 being coexpressed with either Cx32 or Cx26 showed contrasting results. With the induced expression of Cx26, propagation of radiation damage to neighboring DNA can be seen (figure (1,2)). On the contrary, the expression of Cx32 helped reduce the spread through bystander effect (Zhao, de Toledo, Hu, Hei, Azzam, 2014). Since different subtypes of connexins have a different permeability to signaling molecules, Cx32 may have a lower permeability to different secondary messengers. In cells expressing COX2 knockdown, the coupling of Cx26 to AG1522 cells (bystander human fibroblasts) were drastically delayed (delay of bystander effect) (Zhao et al., 2014). Thus, it may present clues to pathways regulating GJIC in radiotherapy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I do not wish to argue with someone, that accomplishes nothing in such a circumstance. Instead, I wish to hear what the other person has to say and try to understand why they feel this way. I would rather understand why other people have a certain view than trying to convert someone into thinking the way I think. If someone were to confront me now I would not change what I do. Company s Internal And External Analysis Consulting Letter Dear Mr. Jefferies, After considering the company s internal and external analysis, it is clear that Abercrombie and Fitch need to implement a new strategy for future success. Considering consumer trends, and the company s current outlook, changes need to be made. The strategies I recommend are to market the company as a more receptive brand in the United States as well as looking to penetrate international markets while closing down underperforming US stores. Considering that international expansion incurs lots of capital costs, it is a strategy that you should slowly implement and keep taking note on the returns of investment. The benefits the company will receive include sustainable profit growth, increase market penetration and improvement of your brand s reputation. Key Issues Abercrombie and Fitch Co. is a men and women s clothing company which is built on the philosophy of not trying to be all things of all people, meaning, not everyone is able to identify themselves and relate to the brand. Their current CEO, Mike Jefferies, is faced with the issue to decide whether the firm should expand its direct to consumer and international sales. By doing so, he would be looking to close down domestic stores in the United States. This issue have appeared due to the company missing Wall Street s estimates in 2011, thus experiencing a drop in shares. Although sales have increased domestically, the company had to use price discounts in order to drive those sales, thus lower gross profit, and creating an unsustainable strategy for the future. As a result, he ponders whether to close down the lower yielding domestic stores and concentrating on online and international expansion. When we used both wands, the electrometer almost read zero volts throughout the duration of the experiment. This proves that the negativity of the particles on the blue wand were equal to the positive charge of the particles on the white wand; so it cancelled each other out. While using the both wands we encountered an error. The voltage should have been zero when the wands was out the pail and not touching the pail; however the electrometer reading was 3 volt. This is most likely due to a random error in measurement due to a faulty electrometer or pail. The electrometer may have not been sensitive enough to pick up all the charged particles when the wands were not out the pail we should have repeated this so we can get accurate readings. The Great War, the war to end all wars was wreaking havoc all across Europe, but the American public desired to stay neutral. Reasons for neutrality included fear of losing loved ones, socialism because the war was believed to be to be a capitalist venture to protect imperialism, the rise of pacifists who believed war was wrong for any reason, and naturalized citizens afraid they would be forced to kill those from their old county on the battlefield. But by April 2, 1917 the country had chosen to enter the war for various reasons that were moral, economic and political. The U.S. was strongly justified in to enter the war for moral reasons, substantially justified economically, but weakly politically justified. Although the U.S. originally felt they should not enter the war for moral reasons, ultimately moral reasons for entering the war were firmly justified. At first neutrality seemed like the most effective way to keep peace for the American people. Some American citizens lived abroad in the war zone areas, carrying on trade and business. There are four known forms of the disease, Type A, Type B, Type C, and Type D, in which Type A and B compose Type I and Type C and D make up Type II. Type A and B are a response to the lack of the enzyme acid sphingomyelinase(ASM) which metabolizes sphingomyelin. • 39. How Headphones And The Acoustic Transducer Became The Most... Summary In the 21st century, sound transducers became the most important building block in all electronic devices. This element is employed into many products such as microphones, cellphones, radios, probes, etc. Headphones, for instance, are based on the loudspeaker system which works thanks to the acoustic transducer. They may look mundane in our daily life, but each element inside the headphones denotes significant innovations in human history. How do headphones work and what are the secrets that lie inside? The objective of this essay is to describe and clarify the main technology that headphones employ. Therefore, it will be explored different elements that make headphones so much used today such as history, function principles, manufacturing and future development. The history behind the headphones The statement of the first headphones inventor can be a fine debatable topic, which is not the goal of this essay. Thus, the historical background will be reviewed only to obtain the engineering improvement for the acoustic transducer, while the statement for the creator of first true headphones will be left at the reader s belief. Some people may associate headphones origin to the engineering of the first Walkman in 1979, while others instead, declare that Beyerdynamic should be taking the credit. Most of archives and encyclopaedias, such as Wikipedia, say that the first working headphones were created and sold to the US Navy by Nathaniel Baldwin, in 1910. (Figure 1 ... • 40. Analysis Of The Lincoln Electric Company Analysis of the Lincoln Electric Company Upon review of the Lincoln Electric Company case study conducted by Arthur Sharpish of Harvard University, I came to find that the culture within the company is what elevated Lincoln Electric above all other companies in that field. When analyzing the report I considered many aspects of the company in order to determine what exactly that separates Lincoln from their competition. First, I examined the ongoing influence that has been exerted by the founders of the company. Lincoln Electric was founded by James F. Lincoln at the turn of the 20th century. His influence in leadership and his approach toward the customer has stood the test of time. James believed that the success of his company lay with the customer and a motivated labor force. It is obvious that the customer s interests, not the stockholder s, should come first. In 1947 he said, Care should be taken ... not to rivet attention on profit. Between How much do I get? and How do I make this better, cheaper, more useful? the difference is fundamental and decisive. (J, Lincoln) James valued customer satisfaction above all else, which inevitably led to the innovation and production of a great product that met the consumer s needs. His views on employee retention continue to be a guide within the company. If fulfilling customer needs is the desired goal of the company then employee performance and productivity are the means by which this goal can best be achieved. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every year more and more gaming companies get gobbled up into huge conglomerates like Electronic Arts, companies that mostly put out trash that is technically and visually impressive, but devoid of concept and content. However, there are some small gaming companies that buck the trend. Just because Moonpod is a small business doesn t mean it doesn t know its web design. The site is very well done and much more informative than even the EA site it has to be, since the company doesn t have the money to make separate sites every time it comes up with a new game. The organization of the website itself is fairly basic. A centrally located news column makes announcements about new features, patches, or game releases. A navigation bar on the left hand side allows easy access to the different parts of the website, and beautiful, eye catching screenshots on the right take one to a synopsis of the games from which they come (although the buttons on the left do that as well). The contents of the center and right hand portions change when one accesses a part of the site specific to one of the games, changing to a synopsis of and system requirements for the game in the center, and screenshots and related links on the right. Twain, attacking the willingness to change fashion without thinking first, speaks to women closely. Twain states, One woman abandons the fashion; her neighbor notices this and follows her lead; this influences the next woman; and so on and so on . . . (718). To this day women continue to experience this identical process. Although one may love her Christmas sweater, if her neighbor does not own one or wrinkles her nose at the idea of wearing such a thing, she will immediately go home and dispose of the sweater without thinking twice about her actions or her personal feelings toward the item of clothing. Twain also mentions how twenty five years ago there would be six of eight wine glasses given to each person attending a dinner party, and they were to be used, not left idle and empty , but today there are but three of four wine glasses and on average and only two are sparingly emptied by each guest (719). Twain follows this observation by expanding his opinion on conformity. He offers the idea that people follow certain trends without thinking them through. The people attending these dinner parties have no idea why they only consume two glasses when twenty five years ago people consumed three to four times as much. Humans, in general, do not look for the answer to the question why? , but instead only worry about what other people do and if their actions are satisfactory to those surrounding them. • 51. The Cause And Effects Of Climate Change It is obvious that climate change is real, and humans are having an inordinate impact on the natural processes of the earth. This impact is leading to changes in the storm system of the Atlantic Ocean. The increase in overall global temperatures is leading to an increase in ocean surface temperatures. When looking at the process of hurricane creation, it is clear that this increase in temperature will affect the creation of tropical storms. Warmer oceans create more intense hurricanes. Also, historical records provide definitive proof of an increase in hurricane activity in the Atlantic. Over the past few centuries, increases in size, intensity and rainfall have been detected by thousands of scientists. Scientific models such as those created by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) suggest an increase in intensity of tropical cyclones due to anthropogenic changes. These changes are detrimental to society and are a direct consequence of human induced climate change. If climate change continues to worsen, so will the intensity and effect of tropical storms. The increase in sea surface temperaturedue to human activity is unquestionably contributing to an upsurge in intensity of tropical storms and hurricanes. When one looks at the science of how hurricanes are formed from tropical storms, it is only logical that increased ocean temperatures will increase the intensity. Tropical storms are formed when the air above the ocean cools faster than the surface ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Court has long afforded the right to marry constitutional protection. But the standard test for identifying a fundamental right under the Due Process Clause is that the right must be deeply rooted in this Nation s history and tradition (Washington Post) . However, the majority opinion went further to find that the liberties implied within the Fourteenth Amendment Due Process Clause have stretched to certain personal choices central to a person s dignity and autonomy, including their intimate choices that define personal identity and beliefs (Washington Post) . Using this idea, the majority opinion concluded that the liberty interest to marry extends to same sex couples. The ruling has helped gay rights advocates fight more than a hundred and fifteen pieces of legislation that were introduced in state legislatures that were targeting gay people. The first model is the multi store model. It was first proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin in 1968 and is a typical example of the information processing approach. The case study of KF a brain damaged patient with no problem with long term learning but some aspects of his immediate memory were impaired. This has proven that the working model of memory was right when suggesting that short term store works independently of long term store. In addition to evidence supporting this model, Baddeley and Hitch did a research on making participants do two tasks using the same or different components. Task one occupied the central executive, task two either involved the articulatory loop or both the central executive and the articulatory loop. Speed on task one was the same whether using the articulatory loop or no extra task. This shows that doing two tasks that involve the same component causes difficulty. It also suggested that when two different components are used, performance is not affected. Even though the working model of memory is better than the multi store model, it still has some weaknesses.
