Freedom began on the day the first sheep wandered away from the herd. Marty
Rubin once said. Nowhere is this idea more clearly shown than in The Alchemist by
Paulo Coelho. The Alchemist reveals that for one to complete their pursuit of
happiness, sometimes they have to march to the beat of their own drum. Coelho uses
foreshadow, symbolism, and foil to further the thematic topic of nonconformity.
Modern readers can take away a sense of recusancy. Through this story, they can
learn that being themselves is okay, and doing what they want in order to be happy is
completely acceptable. The foreshadowingin this novel prepares readers for
decisions Santiago will make later on. This idea is evident when Santiago is
explaining to the king why he is shepherd. They wanted me to be a priest, but I
decided to become a shepherd. Because you really like to travel. (Coelho 18).
When the King completes Santiago s claim by saying that he loves to travel, an
inference can be that he will make decisions that will keep him traveling. For
example, he decides to keep going on his personal legend instead of staying with
Fatima. Nonconformity is seen when Santiago tells the King that even though his
parents want him to be a priest, he decides to become a shepherd. In using
foreshadowing, Coelho also manages to implant symbolism in the same idea. Coelho
inserts many examples of symbolism into the story. There is always a bigger meaning
hidden in something that seems small.

My three college choices are University of Florida, University of Seattle and Ohio
University. Each of these colleges have good qualities for my careers. I m not very
sure what exactly I want to have a career in. Two of my main choices are
veterinarian or child care. Some of my concerns are the distance, cost of tuition, the
quality of the program, and the recreation at the colleges. University of Florida is my

kids and show them you care. This is a very social job too. Working conditions for
this job could be outside, inside, at home, at a day care, or in a school. The job

The U.S. Treasury bond is a low interest way for the government to borrow money.
The bond, along with Treasury notes and bills, form the Securities which the Federal
government borrows from lenders for a set amount of time. Issued by the
Department of the Public Debt, a subset of the US Treasury, they are usually issued
in 30 year maturities which pay interest twice yearly. Because the debt obligation is
backed by the tax generating, money printing, and understandably trusted government
of the United States, bonds are generally considered to be a safe or virtually no risk
investment. Thanks to this low risk attribute however, bonds are regarded as very
low yield security, which is exactly why it is a good instrument for the United States
government to employ, as long as it can turn a relatively decent profit on the initial
investment. According to the September 30th, 2014 report of Monthly Statement of
the Public Debt of the United States, the amount of Treasury Bonds outstanding
totaled $8,167,759 million, I ll call it roughly $8.2 trillion. This number composes the
