SlideShare a Scribd company logo
1. Draw the vertical and horizontal axes.
2. Plot the principal dimensions by marking the axes. Width (W) on
the horizontal axis; Height (H) on the vertical axis as well as the
space between Front View (FV) and Top View (TV).
3. Construct the initial or the enclosing box of the Top View (TV) and
the Front View (FV) by projecting all the marks horizontally and
vertically. Use your triangles.
4. Construct the miter line at 45° angle from the upper rightmost
corner of the Front View’s initial box using the 45° triangle.
5. Project down all intersecting points to get the depth of the Right
Side View (RSV) and to form its initial box.
6. Plot the sub-dimensions by marking the axes.
7. Sketch the details of the primary views by projecting all markings
horizontally and vertically.
8. Darken the final edges of the views. Use hidden lines if necessary.
9. Label your drawing.

Steps in constructing an orthographic drawing

  • 1.
  • 2. 1. Draw the vertical and horizontal axes. 2. Plot the principal dimensions by marking the axes. Width (W) on the horizontal axis; Height (H) on the vertical axis as well as the space between Front View (FV) and Top View (TV). 3. Construct the initial or the enclosing box of the Top View (TV) and the Front View (FV) by projecting all the marks horizontally and vertically. Use your triangles. 4. Construct the miter line at 45° angle from the upper rightmost corner of the Front View’s initial box using the 45° triangle. 5. Project down all intersecting points to get the depth of the Right Side View (RSV) and to form its initial box. 6. Plot the sub-dimensions by marking the axes. 7. Sketch the details of the primary views by projecting all markings horizontally and vertically. 8. Darken the final edges of the views. Use hidden lines if necessary. 9. Label your drawing.
