Backtesting Var Models
Backtesting VaR models: Quantitative and Qualitative Tests Carlos Blanco and Maksim Oks This is
the first article in a two part series analyzing the accuracy of risk measurement models. In this first
article, we will present an overview of backtesting methods and point out the importance of
conducting regular backtests on the risk models being used. In the second article, we will present an
alternative to measuring VaR using a top down or macro approach as a complementary tool to
traditional risk methodologies. Should risk models be accurate? Firms that use VaR as a risk
disclosure or risk management tool are facing growing pressure from internal and external parties such
as senior management, regulators, auditors, investors, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is always better to be approximately right than exactly wrong. Determining the accuracy of VaR
models How can we assess the accuracy and performance of a VaR model? To answer this question,
we first need to define what we mean by accuracy. By accuracy, we could mean: How well does the
model measure a particular percentile of or the entire profit and loss distribution? How well does the
model predict the size and frequency of losses? Many standard backtests of VaR models compare the
actual portfolio losses for a given horizon vs. the estimated VaR numbers. In its simplest form, the
backtesting procedure consists of calculating the number or percentage of times that the actual
portfolio returns fall outside the VaR estimate, and comparing that number to the confidence level
used. For example, if the confidence level were 95%, we would expect portfolio returns to exceed the
VaR numbers on about 5% of the days. Backtesting can be as much an art as a science. It is important
to incorporate rigorous statistical tests with other visual and qualitative ones. Simple Backtesting: VaR

Why Tattoos Should Be Allowed In The Military
Tattoos are a growing trend that continues to become more popular as the years go by. However, the
trend does not stop the rules and regulations that are set in the U.S. military. The paper examines the
reasons why tattoos should be allowed in the U.S. military. The history of tattoos date back to the
pyramid times and they have also been a longstanding tradition in the military. Tattoos are a form of
art, which express a significant meaning. The artwork reflects a positive image of individuality and
self expression for people. Tattoos are a lifelong commitment. People who view the art of tattoos as
trashy can be quick to judge others who have tattoos. However, it is impossible to know the true colors
of a person based on their tattoos. As long as the tattoos are not offensive to anyone, service members
should be allowed to have them in the U.S. military. Tattoo Policies in the U.S. Military It is inevitable
that tattoos are becoming more popular as time goes by. There are more people today with tattoos than
there were years ago. Before it was only common for bikers and servicemen to have tattoos. Now it is
one of the most cultural trends out there. Some call them trashy, rebellious, and unprofessional when
others would disagree stating that they are pieces of art and beautiful. There are troops that sacrifice
their lives for our country that have been involved in many combat operations that are denied re
enlistment because of tattoos. How is this fair to the ones that

Speech On Plastics
Year 10 English
Language Analysis Essay
In a response to a recent rise in the number of plastic bags, debate has resurfaced in the media
regarding the extensive use and deposition of plastic bags. Stakeholders which include the Australian
Retailers Association, governments of different states and various legislations have implemented
measures to reduce the total number of plastic bags that are being consumed and eternally
contaminated. The wider implications include, soaring death rates of a number of marine animals and
the exponential cost on recycling plastic bags. In the opinion piece titled, Forget, reuse and recycle.
Let s flat out reject plastic bags, which appeared on 31 August 2017 in the Courier Mail, author Jane
Fynes Clinton contends in a controlled and authoritative tone that the use of plastic bags are an
ongoing concern and change that is necessary is disregarded. Dr Clinton has put forward this article to
citizens of Australia, local supermarkets, governments and institutes.
Establishing with outrage and melancholy, Clinton argues that plastic bags do not just contaminate the
oceans, but also violate the environmental terms and affect many marine organisms. The author s
convincing use of active voice, highlighting that, change is coming, but we are hastening frustratingly,
not only asserts a sense of guilt in the reader, but also seeks to reinforce that we as humans continue to
oscillate on whether we should protect marine life that we need for the future. It is now becoming
ubiquitous. In a frustrated manner, the author employs the reader s sense of fear that, the changes are
going to bite hard some creatures. This phrase embeds a a frank sentiment in the audience who are
stubborn to change and incline to their negative opinions, while also urging our support the contention
by creating an appeal to authority. Moreover, the context is heightened by her reference to
supermarkets chains announcing a bag ban. Moreover, in the following sentence, It is frightening,
appeals to the audience s sense of fear. This encourages the reader to think about the consequences of
the millions of plastic bags floating in our precious oceans. The inclusion of the image of a person

Pathos In Lightning Crashes Ethos
When most people think of the circle of life they imagine the Lion King, right? They don t think of
any of the realities that actually do happen. They don t think about the people dying in one room while
one is being born in another. Lightning Crashes by Live embodies the circle of life perfectly. Live is
an American rock band originating for York, Pennsylvania. The song was released in September of
1994 as a single for their album Throwing Copper. Ed Kowalczyk, one of the members of Live,
dedicated this song to a high school friend who passed away from a drunk driving collision. The
friend had donated several organs. This song specifically speaks to how she gave a new life to others
by donating her organs. Kowalczyk has said that he envisioned the music video to be in a hospital,
where there is plenty of deaths and births taking place. Instead of that vision, the video takes place in a
home, giving off a more peaceful feeling and a happy ending atmosphere. The opening of the music
video portrays the image of a new mother giving birth in one room, while in another room an elderly
woman is dying, symbolizing one life being brought into the world as another is taken. Even though
Lightning Crashes does not use the appeal of logos, it displays a strong usage of pathos and offers a
credible source of ethos to draw in its listeners. The song practices several emotional metaphors
throughout the lyrics, the music video displays emotional imagery, and it can relate to outside

The Pros And Cons Of Easter Island
How an ancient, massive statue called a moai has moved from the quarries to its ahu has many people
questioning, how did the ancient natives of Easter Island do it? Over the years, archeologists and
engineers have tried to answer this question. However all theories of these great occurrences have
limitations. This may be because no one truly knows how the ancients of Easter Island lived and how
advance their culture may have been. Another reason for these limitations is the natural resources that
are available today versus the natural resources of the past. Not only is there a difference in the natural
resources available, but the landscape may also differ from the past. Taking these factors into
consideration it is still possible to theorize

Cyber Espionage
ABSTRACT
The aim of this report is to examine the topic of cyber espionage. Incidents and threats of espionage
committed using software tools have become frequent headlines in news stories in recent years, thus
the existence of cyber espionage is undeniable. This report begins with an introduction of the topic,
followed by a literature review. Moving on, two case studies specifically involving the use of Trojans
and sniffers to commit espionage will be discussed. The scope of these case studies includes the attack
mechanisms used and the countermeasures that could plausibly be adopted, as well as a discussion of
each case. 1.0 INTRODUCTION Cyber espionage is the use of software tools to obtain secret or
private information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An attacker can run malicious commands on an infected system to delete important files from the
victim system, or format the entire disk. Attackers can also infect systems with a Trojan and use it to
attack another pre defined third party system.
Some Trojans have inbuilt keylogging capabilities to record keystrokes made by the victim on the
infected system. These Trojans can be configured to automatically covertly email the log file
containing the recorded keystrokes to a pre defined email address. It is further possible to configure an
autodestruct feature in the Trojan, so that it automatically gets destroyed at a pre specified date, and
hence leaves few traces behind.
Such Trojans are capable of:
Stealing the contents of sensitive emails and documents
Recording passwords, credit card numbers, account information etc.
Stealing software programming code
2.3.2 Sniffers
Sniffers are recording softwares that record and store data packets being sent across a network.
Typically, sniffers can be used to capture, interpret and store data packets being sent across the
network. These captured data packets can be studied and analyzed to understand solve network
problems and keep track of network traffic. In espionage, sniffers are used to capture sensitive data
being sent across the target network. Common espionage threats associated with sniffers include:

large number of location based services (LBSs) have been launched. Since location information may
private information, preserving location privacy has become a significant issue. Previously studied
methods to preserve a users privacy; physical constraints are not taken in consideration for most of
them. In this paper, we constantly focus on such constraints and purpose of a location privacy
preservation method which can be applicable to a real environment. In particular, our method
anonymizes the user s location which generates dummies which we simulate to behave like an real
human. The model also considers traceability of the user s locations which can quickly recover from
an accidental reveal of the user s location. We are conducting an experiment using five users real GPS

Margaret Atwood Sirens
The Myth of the Sirens Sirens have always been a key point in mythology. In Greek mythology sirens
were a creature half bird and half woman who lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness of her song
(Britannica). Once a man heard their beautiful song it would drive them insane, leading them into
jumping overboard. John William Waterhouse, in his panting Ulysses and the Sirens, he shows you
how the sirens were believed to truly look to the Greeks and how the hideous creatures would come
swooping down and go after the men. Meanwhile in her poem Siren Song , Margaret Atwood, shows
how the sirens would cunningly trick the men with their beautiful singing voice. The poem Siren Song
by Margaret Atwood shows how the sirens would use their cunning ability to trick the men into
coming with them. By analyzing the poem, you could come across the connection that the author is
trying to compare the to tricksters. The sirens draw you in by saying I will tell the secret to you, to
you, only to you (Lines 19 20). This peaks the inner curiosity of man. The tone of the poem could be
described as manipulative, since the sirens main goal is to manipulate you into following them. An
example of their manipulation is Only you, only you can, you are unique (Lines ... Show more content

Essay On Antebellum Home
Antebellum Homes in Mississippi
Antebellum homes are majestically crafted homes that are rare and hard to find. They have
architectural designs and stories that make each unique. The word antebellum originates from Latin,
meaning before war . When used with the word architecture, it signifies tasteful plantation homes that
were built in the South during thirty years after the American Civil War. This architecture was first
presented by the Anglo Americans who relocated to the area after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
Although each is distinctly different, they are similar to a degree. The homes all resemble each other
with the luxurious and proportioned look, centered entrance ways, balconies, and columns and posts.
Some highlights most antebellum homes have are evenly spaced windows, gabled roofs, even facades,
grand staircases, formal ballrooms, Greek pillars, and covered porches. All of these extravagant
features suggest the wealthy and power of landowners (Craven).
Mont Helena is an antebellum home located in Rolling Fork, MS. Helen Johnstone Harris and her
husband, George Harris built this grand retirement home on a ceremonial Indian mound Helen
inherited from her father (Mont Helena: A Dream Revisited). However, George was not the man

The Book Flapper by Joshua Zeitz
Flapper by Joshua Zeitz is a book that tells an epic story about the American women during the time
of the 1920 s. For a better understanding, a flapper would typically be a young girl who blurred the
gender roles by taking on a more masculine lifestyle. They wore their hair short, drank and smoked
frequently, and explored their sexuality. With this behavior, it didn t destroy their femininity; it just
simply provided the society s perception of what a woman should and should not be.
The story starts off with a hopelessly romantic side. It all begins by learning about a seventeen year
old girl named Zelda and a First Lieutenant named Francis Scott Fitzgerald who is known to who they
became to be in modern day history. Zelda can be classified as a wild child. Her summer tan gave her
skin the color of a rose petal, her hair was gold, and her eyes seemed to change color with her
prismatic moods. Scott Fitzgerald was an individual who spent four years at Princeton without earning
his undergraduate degree. He gave little contribution to classroom discussions, and was lazy in all
things but reading and writing. In this novel, Joshua Zeitz is able to educate the readers on the
becoming of new women in America. Zeitz is also able to inform the readers on the evolution and
growth of the liberties associated with the new American women. As one of the themes in the first
section of the book, Zeitz develops a concept by discussing and analyzing the life of CoCo Chanel.

Ancient Babylonia
When studying Ancient Babylonia it is notably important to look at these factors: daily life, religion,
people, society, government and economy so we can determine the development of the civilization
and how it is similar to the way we live today. The Babylonian Empire is unique because their
government was run by a law known as the Code of Hammurabi similarly are government is run by
numerous laws. Their knowledge of science and astrology is intriguing due to the fact that they were
the first civilization to form the basis of the sixteen month of thirty days calendar, their discovery of

They also had a list of magical stones to develop their knowledge of mineralogy. Map mating was a
very known science to the Babylonians most of them were experienced in it which made them more
aware of there surrounding. Babylonians drew maps of local areas such as field plans, estates plans,
grounds plants of temples and houses as well as maps of more distant regions such as larger areas:
districts and towns. Their maps were drawn mostly in straight lines, with little attention to scale,
angles and orientation. Most of the sciences they began to study and explore are the same sciences that
we are going into today. The Babylonians have built the foundation for us and we used that and are
building the rest. br br Mathematics was just as important to the Babylonian as it is to us. They
however calculated things entirely different from us. A prime example of this is their number system
which had two disadvantages: (1) it was confusing and, therefore, not used in many daily economic
activities (2) there was no special sign for zero, to separate the different units, so they would leave two
blank spaces for zero or by using a special sign that indicated a space between two words. Babylonian
mathematicians developed a mastery of algebraic skill, even though there was no graphic symbol for
the unknown. Instead they invented a method called false value. Babylonians also

Related Literature Of Blindness
Chapter 2: Review of Related Literature
Blindness may be perceived differently among individuals. It can be a blessing or a curse. It may be
physical or psychological. It can be a metaphor to show the passion that is proportionate to the loss or
gain, happiness or misery, peace or war. When our judgment is clouded by too much passion or
excessive love, there is a tendency to be blinded to the limitless pitfalls (Bady, 2016). Blindness in a
figurative sense can be seen as a split between ignorance and concealment. Literarily, it can be seen in
the following phrases Blind ignorance (lacking knowledge), blind stupor (lacking awareness), blind
prejudice (lacking a critical or questioning attitude), blind taste test (tasting without looking), blind
presentation (lacking preparation or information) (Paterson, 2014). Blindness not only means the lack
of vision but also the lack of intellectual perception. In our everyday life it can cost a lot. It necessary

My Experience With Mental Health Issues And Poverty
It s six o clock in the morning when my mother wakes me up. She combs through my tangled hair,
helps me with my Velcro tennis shoes, grabs her backpack and we head out the door. We re headed to
her Renaissance art class where we sit in the front row. She takes out my coloring book and some
crayons and I get to work while a woman with a booming voice clicks through a PowerPoint.
My mother never let me underestimate the value of an education. She worked hard to put herself
through school as a single mother, towing me around campus as I watched, wide eyed, at all of the
students rushing by. She always pushed excellence and that s why I ve always held myself to the
highest standards. Her tragic experience with mental health issues and poverty have encouraged me to
work hard towards not only a degree, but towards a career that can help make a difference. By
personally experiencing childhood poverty and homelessness I ve gained a greater appreciation for
those that dedicate their lives to helping persons in need. My goal is to become a doctor using my
background in Public Health to better serve impoverished communities and research solutions to
pertinent health issues. I believe the University of Texas at Austin can help me achieve my goal.
As a public health major pursuing medical school, I ve explored multiple aspects of the major
academic disciplines. Even as a high school student, taking advanced placement and dual credit

The Creation Of Drones Started A New Era Of Warfare
The creation of drones started a new era of warfare, one in which people can kill from behind a screen
and attempt to erase the feelings that come with murder. In years prior to the events of 9/11, the U.S.
has been flying drones in Afghanistan. Drones take away the physical distance as well as fear between
adversaries, with pilots operating these RPV s from behind a screen. These drones are equipped with
HD cameras for clear flight navigation that allow the pilots to see an image of what, or who they are
destroying. New types of cameras are being made to see things that the human eye cannot, with
inventions such as the multi purpose camera currently under production that acts like many eyes in the
sky at once. Program manager Jay Lew says DARPA is aiming to create a single, multi talented
camera sensor that can detect visual scenes as familiar still and video imagers do, but that also can
adapt and change their personality and effectively morph into the type of imager that provides the
most useful information for a given situation (darp.mil). This type of camera will revolutionize the
way we see any given situation; when it is too dark, the camera will be able to switch to a different
viewing mode in order to best capture the picture it is attempting to take. Although this device is
projected for the future, it shows just how innovative mankind is becoming. This type of technology
creates the need for different training tactics of soldiers in order to adapt to the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dishwasher Detergents
If you ve ever attempted to churn out homemade dishwasher detergent and have ended up
disappointed with the outcome, the possibility is that you were very close to creating a superb recipe
than you had expected of. Majority of the DIY formulas are done with the very same components,
however, there lies a trick that you can leverage to make it work.
The thing is, cleaners like washing soda are taken under consideration as a base, while the
accumulation removers such as citric acid happen to be... well.. acid. Though both of these ingredients
are crucial for a quality recipe, they will neutralize each other if you use both of them simultaneously.
Several homemade recipes blend them together, though they are peak performers when used
separately.
Let me show you an analogy: Hot water happens to be relaxing and soothing, while cold happens to be
invigorating and freshening. But, while you blend the two, you get the outcome tepid water and throw
off benefits give by both of them. So, the question rises, what is a quality dishwasher detergent made
of?
Majority of the commercial detergents utilize 50% washing soda at the least in their ingredient recipe.
The remaining components are typicallly rinse aids and water softeners.
Unluckily, the additional component in majority of the big name detergents this one, for instance

The Effects Of Light Pollution On The Outdoor Environment
Definition: Also known as photopollution is misdirected, obstructive or unneeded artificial light.
Pollution is the adding of/added light itself, in analogy to added sound, carbon dioxide, etc. Adverse
consequences are multiple; some of them may not be known yet. Scientific definitions thus include the
following: Degradation of photic habitat by artificial light. Alteration of natural light levels in the
outdoor environment owing to artificial light sources. Light pollution is the alteration of light levels in
the outdoor environment (from those present naturally) due to man made sources of light. Indoor light
pollution is such alteration of light levels in the indoor environment due to sources of light, which
compromises human health.[3] Light pollution is the introduction by humans, directly or indirectly, of
artificial light into the environment. The first three of the above four scientific definitions describe the
state of the environment. The fourth (and newest) one describes the process of polluting by light.
Light pollution competes with starlight in the night sky for urban residents, interferes with
astronomical observatories, and, like any other form of pollution, disrupts ecosystems and has adverse
health effects. Light pollution can be divided into two main types: Unpleasant light that intrudes on an
otherwise natural or low light setting Excessive light (generally indoors) that leads to discomfort and
adverse health effects Light pollution is a

Positive And Negative Effects Of Religion
Religion is like the numerous amount of languages that exist in the world, diverse and culturally
diffused. Not subject to any one specific group of people or era in time. Religion is a way for people
to express their beliefs, it s a style of living, a way of life that people decide to adopt and live even
throughout many obstacles imposed by society. Even when said obstacles were negative, and
degrading, people in history chose to prevail while simultaneously standing up for their beliefs.
Thankfully the United States has given people the right to practice any religion of their choice freely
and safely, but it hasn t always been like this. Religion has had positive and negative effects on
politics, society, and the economy all throughout history, some more significant than others. Religion
hasn t always been a right that every american citizen is granted, many were neglected this right. From
the colonial times in America, only 1 of the 13 colonies that would later become the U.S, gave their
citizens the right to worship there god or practice their religion of choice. Most colonies appointed a
church for the state, and everyone had to pay and participate at this church, no matter their religious
preference or beliefs, everyone was subjected to follow this rule. Many disagree with this statement,
by declaring that people had the right to worship the god of their choice due to the creation of The
Maryland Toleration Act of 1649. This document is presumed by many to have

Richard IIi, By William Shakespeare
Children bring out the underlying disposition and wicked intentions we all possess. Richard III, by
William Shakespeare, is a tragic play about the Duke of Gloucester who desires to be the king of
England. He does this through the manipulation and murder of many characters, including Queen
Elizabeth s children, Prince Edward and the Duke of York. These children emphasize some of the
adult themes in the play and reveals the devastating nature of these themes. Their characteristics and
deaths all contribute to the emphasis of these themes. Critics Marie Hélène Bisnaught and Michel
Bito, and Vincent Walsh all agree that the murder of Prince Edward and the Duke of York was an
atrocious deed.
Prince Edward and the Duke of York are innocent, precious, and witty. These traits the children
acquire truly highlights the extent of their deaths. Both these children are well beyond their years. This
clear when the Duke of York says I could have given my uncle s grace a flout, / To touch his growth
nearer than he d touched mine (Act II, Scene IV, Line 24 25). The young duke cleverly insults his
uncle s height and manners essentially saying that Richard is a short, disrespected man. The children s
innocence is also evident through the perspective of their mother and uncle. In the scene when Richard
III greets his nephew, Prince Edward, he says Sweet prince, the untainted virtue of your years / Hath

The Presence Of Social Pressure And Stop Playing With Toys
The presence of social pressure to stop playing with toys featured most commonly among the
participants. They all specifically mentioned some form of conformity to social norms of growing up
(e.g., R27, 151 152; R33, 238 241; R46, 158 160; R51, 302 304; R57, 108 111; R59, 144 146). They
provided examples of alternative activities that were considered acceptable for adults, such as hanging
out with friends (e.g., R27, 103 104; R59, 72 73), and electronic games (e.g., R46, 158 160; R59, 79
80).
The pressure that participants felt to move on from playing with toys appeared to emerge either
internally, stemming from self identification as grown up (e.g., R33, 121 123; R46, 254 255; R51, 79;
R59, 55) or externally, through observation and imitation of peer behaviour (e.g., R46, 124 126; R59,
144 146) In a few instances, participants mentioned being explicitly told by peers that playing with
toys was no longer acceptable (e.g., R27, 188 190; R57, 108 111; R59, 71 72), although parents were
rarely cited as a source of pressure (e.g., R57, 114 115; R59, 140 143).
Participants with siblings highlighted the impact of these siblings on their cessation of play with toys.
Interestingly, participants with younger siblings tended to cite an internal process of social pressure,
where they were driven by a personal desire to appear older:
R27: ... you get to an age where if your sisters are playing with them and they are younger, you don t
really want to play the same things as

Richard The Third King
Richard the third was born in England on Oct 2, 1452. His father was Richard, Duke of York, and his
mother was called Cecily. When Richard s father died, his oldest brother, Edward, became king. King
Edward, who died in 1460, left Edward, Earl of Warwick, as heir to the throne. Edward was only 12
years old so Richard was appointed as Lord Protector until Edward became old enough to claim the
throne. In June of 1483, Ralph Shaa declared that King Edward s marriage to Elizabeth Woodville had
been invalid and therefore their children were illegitimate and could not succeed the throne. Richard
then, by an act of parliament, became king. He ruled from 1483 till his death in August of 1485.

Richard certainly had the means to murder the two brothers. They were both under his control in the
Tower of London. Richard had multiple people he could ask to kill the brothers without anyone
knowing. Although Richard had these capabilities, there would have been no real motive for him to
kill the princes. Richard would not have killed them in order to become king, as they were declared to
be illegitimate children of Edward. This would leave Richard as the next heir. Therefore, parliament,
recognizing this, set the crown on Richard in the act called Titulus Regius. Not only did Richard have
no motive to kill the prices, but it also was not in his character to do that. He had always been faithful
to his brother. On April 21, 1483, Richard publicly swore an oath promising to recognize his nephew,
Prince Edward, as successor to the throne. Not many people then would have broken any kind of oath.
Countless other people with stronger motives than Richard could have murdered the princes. The
princes could have died of natural causes as well. It is known that a doctor was visiting the princes

Statement For MS Industrial Engineering
Program: MS Industrial Engineering Applicant Name: Venkatesh Manohar
Demand of both technical background and management capabilities are keeping me enthralled with
the field of industrial engineering. After twenty one months of industrial experience as Junior Manager
at JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd, I strongly feel that bachelor degree in mechanical engineering is
not sufficient for survival in this competitive field and hence I decided to explore more by pursing MS
Industrial Engineering at X Y Z.
My passion for engineering drove me to choose Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at my high
school. After passing my high school examination with flying colors, I decided to pursue Mechanical
Engineering as my undergraduate major. I chose Mechanical because of its perfect blend with many
engineering fields such as Aerospace, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electronics and what not. My
undergraduate study was a judicious mix of core courses from various fields. I got interested in
industrial engineering after taking subjects like Engineering Economics and Analysis, Operations
Research, Manufacturing Planning and Control and Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing.
My inclination drove me to do a project in quality control titled, Improving the Dimensional Accuracy

Why We Are Better Than Colleges
Senior year is the time for making choices. Some of these choices are going to be small and others
affect the rest of our lives. The biggest and most important choice is which college to attend. Do you
want to stay close to home or go far away? The biggest question is what size of college is right for
you. My two top choices are University of Bluffton and University of Findlay. I think they are both
great colleges but one is definitely a better fit for me. The University of Findlay is a better fit for me
over University of Bluffton because it is close to home, but is still large enough to give me the large
campus feel I am looking for in a college. The hardest part of going to college is the expenses today.
Most students have to take out loans which leaves them in debt all of their lives. University of
Bluffton s tuition is $44,008 ( CollegeSimply. ) which is slightly more than University of Findlay
which costs $42,335 ( Cost of Attending the University of Findlay . ). The difference is $1,673, which
in the big picture does not seem that much. I am hoping to receive some financial aid through the
government, but am also hoping to apply for many private ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder Analysis
Behavior isn t something someone has. Rather, it emerges from the interaction of a person s biology,
past experiences, and immediate context.
― L. Todd Rose Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder also known as ADHD refers to a syndrome
in which some combination of hyperactivity, impulsivity and difficulty with concentration or attention
is severe enough to cause significant difficulties in a child s life. Many people with this disorder are
unable to sit still, finish tasks, plan ahead or be fully aware of what is going on around them. Everyone
tends to think that ADHD children have a behavioral issues, this is somewhat true. L.Todd Rose, in the

The scientist used a technique that demonstrated a link between a person s ability to pay continued
attention and the level of activity in the brain. The investigators found important differences between
people who have ADHD and those who don t. In people that have ADHD, the brain areas that control
attention used less glucose, indicating that they were less active. It appears from the research that a
lower level of activity in some parts of the brain may cause inattention (Matthews, 2002). However,
scientist at NIMH and other research institutions did research on why there is less activity in the areas
of the brain that control attention. They were tracking clues to determine what might prevent nerve
cells from forming the proper connections. The factors that they were studying included drug use
during pregnancy, toxins and genetics. Research shows that a mother s use of cigarettes, alcohol and
other drugs during pregnancy may have damaging effects on the unborn child s developing brain
(Kustscher, 2014). It appears that alcohol and the nicotine in cigarettes may distort developing nerve
cells. As well as drugs seem to affect the development of normal development of brain receptors.

Example Of Code Switching
Based off the google dictionary, code switching refers to the practice of alternating between two or
more languages or varieties of language in conversation. The dictionary definition showcases how
people would talk using two or more languages or accents whenever they talk to others. If I were to
compare the two versions, my version is different from the dictionary definition, but the same concept.
I could see the term being used when we say different forms of our language to people in different
environments. It could occur when you would use slang when talking to your friends, but talk more
professionally when in the workplace talking to your boss. The same could go for when you are

It s like when my parents would ,accidentally at times, blend in their own native language when
talking english to me. My parents wanted me to learn their native language, so they both started
mixing in their language with english. They eventually stopped for reasons i have no clue on, but to
me, that seems like a good example of the dictionary definition. The exact time code switching was
used was when my parents started talking to me in english with some native language in their speech.
Another example comes from a youtube video called, Denice Frohman Accents . According to Denice
Frohman, her mother would blend in the english language with spanish words when talking to her. Her
mother s accent is the one that is making her speech sound hispanic even though she is using speaking
the english language with some spanish words mixed in. Near the end of her poem Denice Frohman
started code switching as well. She started spicing up her speech with spanish words like hermano ,
weba , and dale .She was demonstrating how her family reacts during a get together when she started
code switching. Using her mother as an example and using code switching at the end highlighted the
dictionary definition of the term. For my definition, however, I would summarize the definition in my
own words on how people use the term

Comparing Electoral Processes in Uk
Electoral Systems in the UK
There are two main types of electoral system in the UK:
First Past the Post (FPTP) Proportional Representation (PR)
First Past the Post (FPTP);
FPTP is the voting system used for the election of MPs to seats in the UK Parliament. It is a system in
which the winner takes all and usually gives a clear majority both at constituency and national level.
This means that a candidate in a constituency only needs one more vote than the nearest rival to win
the seat. Similarly, political parties only need to win one more seat in the House of Commons to have
a majority.
Advantages of FPTP;
There is very little chance of extremist parties being elected to Parliament under FPTP because they
are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
FPTP also encourages tactical (unfair) voting. This means voting for a party, other than your preferred
party, to prevent another party from being elected. An example of this would be when a Labour
supporter in a marginal Liberal/ Conservative seat votes Liberal Democrat in order to keep the
Conservatives from winning.
Another disadvantage of FPTP can occur in marginal constituencies, where voters tend to change their
party loyalty from election to election, and among floating or swing voters, who have no firm party
loyalty. The outcome of an election can be decided on the voting patterns in these situations, even
although the constituents may number only a tiny proportion of the electorate.
Proportional Representation (PR)
There is a number of systems that use PR such as the Single Transferable Vote (STV) (the Regional
and National Lists) and the Alternative Vote. There is a third system that combines these two, known
as the Additional Member System (AMS) or the hybrid or top up system. The AMS system is
presently used in elections for the Scottish Parliament, where voters can vote for single candidates in
their constituencies but also for candidates from regional lists put forward by each party. If there is a
discrepancy between the percentage of seats the party has won and the percentage of votes cast, the
seats are topped up from the

Feminist Reflection
On Tuesday August 29, 2017 it was my first day of WMST 250. I was nervous and had so many
thoughts and questions running through my mind. I hope my professor is nice, She didn t have any
reviews on ratemyprofessor.com, (Yes...I did look you up on there! LOL!) and I wonder what the class
material will be? The questions we started off with were about feminism. Before our first class we
were assigned to watch We Should All Be Feminists TED Talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Our
first activity was ordering images from least to most feminism. Before I began this activity I googled
the definition of feminism because truthfully I was not familiar with feminism or feminist. Also one of
our first readings was Feminist Politics: Where We Stand by Bell Hooks. We had several assignments
throughout the semester. We had Reading Responses, Museum Visit Writing Assignment, Presentation
in Pairs, Art Activist Intervention, and Final Learning Analysis. The reading responses allowed
students to ask questions and keep the reader engaged while reading. Personally, if I did not have to
create questions from the readings I would not have been engaged in the reading or read as carefully
as I did. The Museum Visit Writing Assignment allowed students to go outside of their comfort zone
because we went to museums which many of us probably would not have done in our free time. Cara
wanted us to feel like we belonged at museums and her goal was accomplished on my end. Before I
went on my museum

In class I learned of how people may stop using substances and alcohol because of yoga, it becomes

tensing helped me out the most when it comes to focusing and relaxing. What I enjoyed most was the
effects of the back bends and front bends in yoga, I felt the most relaxed and or energized during those
type of postures. During meditation what helped me to meditate to my fullest ability were the
affirmations, most of the time the affirmations had an effect on me. The quotes mentioned in class
were inspirational to me and allowed me to understand the thinking of yoga. One of my favorite
quotes from class is a quote I always remember by Hafiz Even after all this time the sun never says to

that I found interesting were the discussions on how yoga would help with our daily lives. At first I
had much trouble with postures and was also discouraged. Throughout the semester I managed to be
comfortable with where I m at and improve at a small pace and attempt to not compare myself to

100 years later. African Americans are still convicted at a higher rate then their white counterparts,
African Americans still receive longer sentences for the same crimes their white counterparts commit.
At the same time the criminal justice has changed the standards for selecting judges and for selecting
juries which is very important in criminal cases such as the Scottsboro Trials. I also observed that very
much like back then and today lawyers will take on high profile cases simply for personal benefit not

Coca Cola wanted to continue its international expansion because it believed that the U.S. market
would eventually reach maturity, and that growth prospects were better overseas. For much of its
initial expansion, Coca Cola followed a localization strategy, allowing each country unit to manage its
own operations. QUESTION 2: Why did Coca Cola change its initial strategy? What strategy did
Coca Cola start to pursue in 2000? What were the benefits of this strategy to Coca Cola? What were
the drawbacks? ANSWER 2: In the 1980s, Coca Cola changed its strategy from a localization
approach where individual country units essentially ran their own operations, to a more centralized
approach where key management and marketing activities took place at the company headquarters in
Atlanta. The company extended this strategy to include foreign bottlers. By taking equity stakes in the
bottlers, Coca Cola was able to exert greater control over them. Coca Cola made the shift to the global
standardization strategy because it believed that by doing so, the company could gain significant
economies of scale. However, by 2000, the company was ready to change its strategy once again.
Coca Cola was losing market share to companies that used a more localized strategy, and under the
guidance of its new CEO, Coca Cola began once again to give local managers more decision making
power. This time however, while giving country managers the autonomy to tailor product

Critical Analysis Of Max Weber s Theory
Sociology of Max Weber This essay is a critical analysis of the theories given by Max Weber of
leadership, religion and rationalization.
Just like Marx, Max Weber is a German sociologist and philosopher and his ideas have always
influenced the society in many ways. He is referred to as one of the founding fathers of modern
sociology. He has given many ground breaking theories like theory of bureaucracy and theory of
social class. His theories are important because he helped us to understand the nature of society. He
disagreed with the Marxian understanding of class and Auguste Comte s theory of positivism.

What It Take to Be a Scholarly Writier Essay examples
Scholarly writing is no different from all other writing, except, beside it having a purpose and having
an audience like any other writings, scholarly writing is evidence based (Laureate Education, 2012). It
is important, since the scholar practitioner write for a specific audience, that his or her material be free

Disaster Response Leadership Research Evaluation Table
Disaster Response Leadership Research Evaluation Table In this report, we have critically evaluated
an article published in the International Journal of Leadership Studies entitled Disaster Response
Leadership: Perception of American Red Cross Workers (Wheeler, Weeks Montgomery, 2013). This
article was chosen because it is directly related to the topic of module 2: Leadership and Leadership
Theories.
Research Evaluation Table
Research Topic
Leadership is an important aspect of management sciences. Over the past century, many theories have
been developed to provide managers with the tools required to effectively lead their subordinates.
From a simplistic theory cataloguing individual traits and characteristics, leadership has become a
complex science shaped by many forces (ex: behavioural sciences, organizational culture, strategic
management trends etc.) (Avolio, Walumba and Weber, 2009).
Problem or Management Dilemma
Recent traumatic events have put forward a new field of study within leadership theory: crisis
leadership. Like Wheeler, Weeks and Montgomery (2013, p.79) points out: many leaders have been
criticised how they have responded to a crisis situation, but little is known about how leaders must
adapt their leadership style within crisis management. In order to understand this problem, Wheeler,
Weeks and Montgomery (2013, p.80) highlights that the study of various crisis organizations could
provide the conceptual framework to better understand how one can

White Characters In The Great Debaters In The Great Debaters
During the mid 1930 s, racism against coloured people was a very prominent topic in America. In the
Film The Great Debaters created by Denzel Washington and Oprah Winfrey, the debate team and their
fellow African Americans are truly discouraged by the white characters. However, these ambitious
individuals decide to stick to their goals and push for success. James is one of the main protagonists in
the film who progressively becomes more confident. The whole team also perceived racism and hate
in such a way that made them want to bring change in their own, and their people s lives. Despite
oppression, the film demonstrates that the minority are still motivated to succeed. James Farmer Jr. is
arguably a very insecure individual, although, as the film progresses his confidence does as well. To
begin, James stood up against his father when his father made inaccurate assumptions about him. For
instance, when James came home late at night, his father thought that he had been out with a girl and
drinking. He used to be a nervous child who would just listen and apologize to his father right away.
However, progression is shown in James character when he decides to protest against his father s false
accusations. He displayed a lot of emotion to get his message across as he showed tears and even
raised his voice. Evidently, James shows that he now has a voice as he now decides to go against his
father s wrong claims. He believes that he needs to stand up for himself as a result of

the footsteps of heroes in entertainment, and he wants to emphasize this point to the readers: You re
not human anymore. You re a shadow. You slip out of your own skin, like molting, shedding your own
history and your own future, or leaving behind everything you ever were or wanted or believed in.
You know you re about to die. And it s not a movie and you aren t a hero and all you can do is
whimper and wait (211). The emotions he feels at the time is hard to put into words, and so he makes
the reader try to experience it, just as he wants Bobby Jorgenson to experience it. Because O Brien has
accumulated familiarity with this irrational fear soldiers experience, he feels like this is a punishment
suitable in its notoriety for a new soldier like Jorgenson, and would hopefully get back at the pain he

Disadvantages Of Leapfrogging Technology Innovation In...

Advantages of leapfrogging technology innovation in Nigeria
. Effects on Small medium enterprise (SME s)
Grace Chimezie for PPOL 786
Abstract
This paper views the effects of innovative technologies to spur ideas, using hack ways to find useful
alternatives to compete in the fast paced driven technological world.
Introduction
Mobile technologies and PC devices have played a key role in innovation and the business growth of
small scale businesses in Nigeria. In 2016 over 68% of the nation s population had access to mobile
phones and 93.75 million connected to the internet (Quartz Africa). Even as lower smart phone prices
drive a digital revolution in Nigeria, Nigerians still pay a significant amount of their income to make
phone calls or surf the internet.
There often remains a persistent and troubling gap between the inherent value of the technology they
develop and their ability to put it to work effectively. Successive Nigerian governments have missed
the mark as well as the thrust in the application of her potential for progress and poverty alleviation
except for few cases where implementation of policies by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to
reduce movement with physical cash and enforcing the adoption of Mobile banks called (POS)
machines.
Statement of the Problem
Nigeria suffers from high unemployment and a large portion of the population lives below the poverty
line. A significant number of the small and medium enterprises, which constitute over 80

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Load Shedding
In recent years, there has been a rise in the demand of power (electricity). This is due to the
development of cities, urban, sub urban and rural areas and robust economic growth. The increased
demand has exhausted the surplus power generation available, thus demand cannot be meet (Eskom).
The aging of the available infrastructure and increased demand has caused the power supply voltage to
become unstable. As a result, there is a need to implement emergency control actions, to prevent
blackout (a country wide power system trip) (Eskom).
There two ways to stabilize power supply, first approach is a Corrective approach, where new power
stations are built, existing infrastructures are upgraded and new maintenance plans are developed and
followed. This approach is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that, by applying load shedding, damage to power systems is prevented.
Load shedding restores power system stability (Feng, Ajjarapu Maratukulam 1998).
Disadvantages of Load Shedding
If a load shedding program is poorly designed, it will be ineffective and can even worsen the stress
load exerted on the supply leading to cascading disruptions (Concordia, Fink Poullikkas 1995).
Load shedding results in unsatisfied customers and loss of revenue for the supplier (Shah
Shahidehpour 1989).
When power is restored after load shedding, surge occurs and this can damage apparatuses and
appliances (Eskom).
Reflections
Load shedding is an emergency control action. This control action is implemented as a result of stress
experienced on the power supply system where the required power is more that the generated power
from the power system. The stress experienced is a result of increased demand, where the available
infrastructures cannot handle. Also it might be caused by aging of available

Alexander The Great Dbq Essay
Father: Faced with strong opposition he had Callisthenes executed! Alexander does not truly care for
Macedonians; he just wants to be king of the Persian Empire, seen as divine, even a god. Callisthenes
was a threat to Alexander, as his opposition to his political decisions was widely heard and known.
There is no solid proof that Callisthenes was a part of the Royal Pages conspiracy, Alexander just
wanted an excuse to put him to death. Being a ready ear to the talk of the pages when they were
criticising and finding fault with the king6 is simply no excuse to torture and execute him all without
trial. No other execution has incited more opposition and resentment towards Alexander7. Son: Of
course one would dislike another who is opposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Does that not seem to you like betrayal and rejection of his own people? Alexander could never have
had it both ways. As the conquerors we will never accept the customs of the conquered. Political move
it may have been, but it was the wrong one. At the trial of the royal pages conspiracy, it was stated to
Alexander that he abhorred the customs of his own country. Thus it was the king of Persians, not of
the Macedonians that they wanted to kill13. Alexander has simply become so far removed from his
own people that some do not even see him as their own king. The plot against his life was to pursue
him as a deserter in accordance with the conventions of war14. When a sailor rescued Alexander s
crown from the sea and placed it on his own head to keep it dry and out of harm s way, he was
rewarded handsomely for the rescue. When it was pointed out by another to Alexander that the crown
had been on another s head, regardless of the situation he had the same man promptly executed on the
belief that it was a bad omen. With the adoption of Persian luxury came outright abuse of power and

  • 2. Backtesting Var Models Backtesting VaR models: Quantitative and Qualitative Tests Carlos Blanco and Maksim Oks This is the first article in a two part series analyzing the accuracy of risk measurement models. In this first article, we will present an overview of backtesting methods and point out the importance of conducting regular backtests on the risk models being used. In the second article, we will present an alternative to measuring VaR using a top down or macro approach as a complementary tool to traditional risk methodologies. Should risk models be accurate? Firms that use VaR as a risk disclosure or risk management tool are facing growing pressure from internal and external parties such as senior management, regulators, auditors, investors, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is always better to be approximately right than exactly wrong. Determining the accuracy of VaR models How can we assess the accuracy and performance of a VaR model? To answer this question, we first need to define what we mean by accuracy. By accuracy, we could mean: How well does the model measure a particular percentile of or the entire profit and loss distribution? How well does the model predict the size and frequency of losses? Many standard backtests of VaR models compare the actual portfolio losses for a given horizon vs. the estimated VaR numbers. In its simplest form, the backtesting procedure consists of calculating the number or percentage of times that the actual portfolio returns fall outside the VaR estimate, and comparing that number to the confidence level used. For example, if the confidence level were 95%, we would expect portfolio returns to exceed the VaR numbers on about 5% of the days. Backtesting can be as much an art as a science. It is important to incorporate rigorous statistical tests with other visual and qualitative ones. Simple Backtesting: VaR ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Tattoos Should Be Allowed In The Military Tattoos are a growing trend that continues to become more popular as the years go by. However, the trend does not stop the rules and regulations that are set in the U.S. military. The paper examines the reasons why tattoos should be allowed in the U.S. military. The history of tattoos date back to the pyramid times and they have also been a longstanding tradition in the military. Tattoos are a form of art, which express a significant meaning. The artwork reflects a positive image of individuality and self expression for people. Tattoos are a lifelong commitment. People who view the art of tattoos as trashy can be quick to judge others who have tattoos. However, it is impossible to know the true colors of a person based on their tattoos. As long as the tattoos are not offensive to anyone, service members should be allowed to have them in the U.S. military. Tattoo Policies in the U.S. Military It is inevitable that tattoos are becoming more popular as time goes by. There are more people today with tattoos than there were years ago. Before it was only common for bikers and servicemen to have tattoos. Now it is one of the most cultural trends out there. Some call them trashy, rebellious, and unprofessional when others would disagree stating that they are pieces of art and beautiful. There are troops that sacrifice their lives for our country that have been involved in many combat operations that are denied re enlistment because of tattoos. How is this fair to the ones that ... Speech On Plastics Year 10 English Language Analysis Essay In a response to a recent rise in the number of plastic bags, debate has resurfaced in the media regarding the extensive use and deposition of plastic bags. Stakeholders which include the Australian Retailers Association, governments of different states and various legislations have implemented measures to reduce the total number of plastic bags that are being consumed and eternally contaminated. The wider implications include, soaring death rates of a number of marine animals and the exponential cost on recycling plastic bags. In the opinion piece titled, Forget, reuse and recycle. Let s flat out reject plastic bags, which appeared on 31 August 2017 in the Courier Mail, author Jane Fynes Clinton contends in a controlled and authoritative tone that the use of plastic bags are an ongoing concern and change that is necessary is disregarded. Dr Clinton has put forward this article to citizens of Australia, local supermarkets, governments and institutes. Establishing with outrage and melancholy, Clinton argues that plastic bags do not just contaminate the oceans, but also violate the environmental terms and affect many marine organisms. The author s convincing use of active voice, highlighting that, change is coming, but we are hastening frustratingly, not only asserts a sense of guilt in the reader, but also seeks to reinforce that we as humans continue to oscillate on whether we should protect marine life that we need for the future. It is now becoming ubiquitous. In a frustrated manner, the author employs the reader s sense of fear that, the changes are going to bite hard some creatures. This phrase embeds a a frank sentiment in the audience who are stubborn to change and incline to their negative opinions, while also urging our support the contention by creating an appeal to authority. Moreover, the context is heightened by her reference to supermarkets chains announcing a bag ban. Moreover, in the following sentence, It is frightening, appeals to the audience s sense of fear. This encourages the reader to think about the consequences of the millions of plastic bags floating in our precious oceans. The inclusion of the image of a person carrying ... They don t think about the people dying in one room while one is being born in another. Lightning Crashes by Live embodies the circle of life perfectly. Live is an American rock band originating for York, Pennsylvania. The song was released in September of 1994 as a single for their album Throwing Copper. Ed Kowalczyk, one of the members of Live, dedicated this song to a high school friend who passed away from a drunk driving collision. The friend had donated several organs. This song specifically speaks to how she gave a new life to others by donating her organs. Kowalczyk has said that he envisioned the music video to be in a hospital, where there is plenty of deaths and births taking place. Instead of that vision, the video takes place in a home, giving off a more peaceful feeling and a happy ending atmosphere. The opening of the music video portrays the image of a new mother giving birth in one room, while in another room an elderly woman is dying, symbolizing one life being brought into the world as another is taken. Even though Lightning Crashes does not use the appeal of logos, it displays a strong usage of pathos and offers a credible source of ethos to draw in its listeners. The song practices several emotional metaphors throughout the lyrics, the music video displays emotional imagery, and it can relate to outside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Incidents and threats of espionage committed using software tools have become frequent headlines in news stories in recent years, thus the existence of cyber espionage is undeniable. This report begins with an introduction of the topic, followed by a literature review. Moving on, two case studies specifically involving the use of Trojans and sniffers to commit espionage will be discussed. The scope of these case studies includes the attack mechanisms used and the countermeasures that could plausibly be adopted, as well as a discussion of each case. 1.0 INTRODUCTION Cyber espionage is the use of software tools to obtain secret or private information ... Attackers can also infect systems with a Trojan and use it to attack another pre defined third party system. Some Trojans have inbuilt keylogging capabilities to record keystrokes made by the victim on the infected system. These Trojans can be configured to automatically covertly email the log file containing the recorded keystrokes to a pre defined email address. It is further possible to configure an autodestruct feature in the Trojan, so that it automatically gets destroyed at a pre specified date, and hence leaves few traces behind. Such Trojans are capable of: Stealing the contents of sensitive emails and documents Recording passwords, credit card numbers, account information etc. Stealing software programming code 2.3.2 Sniffers Sniffers are recording softwares that record and store data packets being sent across a network. Once a man heard their beautiful song it would drive them insane, leading them into jumping overboard. John William Waterhouse, in his panting Ulysses and the Sirens, he shows you how the sirens were believed to truly look to the Greeks and how the hideous creatures would come swooping down and go after the men. Meanwhile in her poem Siren Song , Margaret Atwood, shows how the sirens would cunningly trick the men with their beautiful singing voice. The poem Siren Song by Margaret Atwood shows how the sirens would use their cunning ability to trick the men into coming with them. By analyzing the poem, you could come across the connection that the author is trying to compare the to tricksters. The sirens draw you in by saying I will tell the secret to you, to you, only to you (Lines 19 20). This peaks the inner curiosity of man. The tone of the poem could be described as manipulative, since the sirens main goal is to manipulate you into following them. • 10. Essay On Antebellum Home Antebellum Homes in Mississippi Antebellum homes are majestically crafted homes that are rare and hard to find. They have architectural designs and stories that make each unique. The word antebellum originates from Latin, meaning before war . When used with the word architecture, it signifies tasteful plantation homes that were built in the South during thirty years after the American Civil War. This architecture was first presented by the Anglo Americans who relocated to the area after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Although each is distinctly different, they are similar to a degree. The homes all resemble each other with the luxurious and proportioned look, centered entrance ways, balconies, and columns and posts. Some highlights most antebellum homes have are evenly spaced windows, gabled roofs, even facades, grand staircases, formal ballrooms, Greek pillars, and covered porches. All of these extravagant features suggest the wealthy and power of landowners (Craven). Mont Helena is an antebellum home located in Rolling Fork, MS. • 12. The Book Flapper by Joshua Zeitz Flapper by Joshua Zeitz is a book that tells an epic story about the American women during the time of the 1920 s. For a better understanding, a flapper would typically be a young girl who blurred the gender roles by taking on a more masculine lifestyle. They wore their hair short, drank and smoked frequently, and explored their sexuality. With this behavior, it didn t destroy their femininity; it just simply provided the society s perception of what a woman should and should not be. The story starts off with a hopelessly romantic side. It all begins by learning about a seventeen year old girl named Zelda and a First Lieutenant named Francis Scott Fitzgerald who is known to who they became to be in modern day history. Zelda can be classified as a wild child. Her summer tan gave her skin the color of a rose petal, her hair was gold, and her eyes seemed to change color with her prismatic moods. Scott Fitzgerald was an individual who spent four years at Princeton without earning his undergraduate degree. He gave little contribution to classroom discussions, and was lazy in all things but reading and writing. In this novel, Joshua Zeitz is able to educate the readers on the becoming of new women in America. Zeitz is also able to inform the readers on the evolution and growth of the liberties associated with the new American women. It may be physical or psychological. It can be a metaphor to show the passion that is proportionate to the loss or gain, happiness or misery, peace or war. When our judgment is clouded by too much passion or excessive love, there is a tendency to be blinded to the limitless pitfalls (Bady, 2016). Blindness in a figurative sense can be seen as a split between ignorance and concealment. Literarily, it can be seen in the following phrases Blind ignorance (lacking knowledge), blind stupor (lacking awareness), blind prejudice (lacking a critical or questioning attitude), blind taste test (tasting without looking), blind presentation (lacking preparation or information) (Paterson, 2014). The Creation Of Drones Started A New Era Of Warfare The creation of drones started a new era of warfare, one in which people can kill from behind a screen and attempt to erase the feelings that come with murder. In years prior to the events of 9/11, the U.S. has been flying drones in Afghanistan. Drones take away the physical distance as well as fear between adversaries, with pilots operating these RPV s from behind a screen. These drones are equipped with HD cameras for clear flight navigation that allow the pilots to see an image of what, or who they are destroying. Pollution is the adding of/added light itself, in analogy to added sound, carbon dioxide, etc. Adverse consequences are multiple; some of them may not be known yet. Scientific definitions thus include the following: Degradation of photic habitat by artificial light. Alteration of natural light levels in the outdoor environment owing to artificial light sources. Light pollution is the alteration of light levels in the outdoor environment (from those present naturally) due to man made sources of light. Indoor light pollution is such alteration of light levels in the indoor environment due to sources of light, which compromises human health.[3] Light pollution is the introduction by humans, directly or indirectly, of artificial light into the environment. The first three of the above four scientific definitions describe the state of the environment. The fourth (and newest) one describes the process of polluting by light. Light pollution competes with starlight in the night sky for urban residents, interferes with astronomical observatories, and, like any other form of pollution, disrupts ecosystems and has adverse health effects. Light pollution can be divided into two main types: Unpleasant light that intrudes on an otherwise natural or low light setting Excessive light (generally indoors) that leads to discomfort and adverse health effects Light pollution is a ... Religion is a way for people to express their beliefs, it s a style of living, a way of life that people decide to adopt and live even throughout many obstacles imposed by society. Even when said obstacles were negative, and degrading, people in history chose to prevail while simultaneously standing up for their beliefs. Thankfully the United States has given people the right to practice any religion of their choice freely and safely, but it hasn t always been like this. Religion has had positive and negative effects on politics, society, and the economy all throughout history, some more significant than others. Religion hasn t always been a right that every american citizen is granted, many were neglected this right. From the colonial times in America, only 1 of the 13 colonies that would later become the U.S, gave their citizens the right to worship there god or practice their religion of choice. Most colonies appointed a church for the state, and everyone had to pay and participate at this church, no matter their religious preference or beliefs, everyone was subjected to follow this rule. Richard III, by William Shakespeare, is a tragic play about the Duke of Gloucester who desires to be the king of England. He does this through the manipulation and murder of many characters, including Queen Elizabeth s children, Prince Edward and the Duke of York. These children emphasize some of the adult themes in the play and reveals the devastating nature of these themes. Their characteristics and deaths all contribute to the emphasis of these themes. FPTP also encourages tactical (unfair) voting. This means voting for a party, other than your preferred party, to prevent another party from being elected. An example of this would be when a Labour supporter in a marginal Liberal/ Conservative seat votes Liberal Democrat in order to keep the Conservatives from winning. Another disadvantage of FPTP can occur in marginal constituencies, where voters tend to change their party loyalty from election to election, and among floating or swing voters, who have no firm party loyalty. The outcome of an election can be decided on the voting patterns in these situations, even although the constituents may number only a tiny proportion of the electorate. There is a third system that combines these two, known as the Additional Member System (AMS) or the hybrid or top up system. The AMS system is presently used in elections for the Scottish Parliament, where voters can vote for single candidates in their constituencies but also for candidates from regional lists put forward by each party. • 32. Feminist Reflection On Tuesday August 29, 2017 it was my first day of WMST 250. I was nervous and had so many thoughts and questions running through my mind. I hope my professor is nice, She didn t have any reviews on ratemyprofessor.com, (Yes...I did look you up on there! LOL!) and I wonder what the class material will be? The questions we started off with were about feminism. Before our first class we were assigned to watch We Should All Be Feminists TED Talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Our first activity was ordering images from least to most feminism. Before I began this activity I googled the definition of feminism because truthfully I was not familiar with feminism or feminist. Also one of our first readings was Feminist Politics: Where We Stand by Bell Hooks. We had several assignments throughout the semester. We had Reading Responses, Museum Visit Writing Assignment, Presentation in Pairs, Art Activist Intervention, and Final Learning Analysis. The reading responses allowed students to ask questions and keep the reader engaged while reading. Personally, if I did not have to create questions from the readings I would not have been engaged in the reading or read as carefully as I did. The Museum Visit Writing Assignment allowed students to go outside of their comfort zone because we went to museums which many of us probably would not have done in our free time. Cara wanted us to feel like we belonged at museums and her goal was accomplished on my end. Before I went on my museum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The deep breathing and tensing helped me out the most when it comes to focusing and relaxing. What I enjoyed most was the effects of the back bends and front bends in yoga, I felt the most relaxed and or energized during those type of postures. During meditation what helped me to meditate to my fullest ability were the affirmations, most of the time the affirmations had an effect on me. African Americans are still convicted at a higher rate then their white counterparts, African Americans still receive longer sentences for the same crimes their white counterparts commit. At the same time the criminal justice has changed the standards for selecting judges and for selecting juries which is very important in criminal cases such as the Scottsboro Trials. I also observed that very much like back then and today lawyers will take on high profile cases simply for personal benefit not because they believe in the person or the issue at hand. Coca Cola wanted to continue its international expansion because it believed that the U.S. market would eventually reach maturity, and that growth prospects were better overseas. For much of its initial expansion, Coca Cola followed a localization strategy, allowing each country unit to manage its own operations. QUESTION 2: Why did Coca Cola change its initial strategy? What strategy did Coca Cola start to pursue in 2000? What were the benefits of this strategy to Coca Cola? What were the drawbacks? ANSWER 2: In the 1980s, Coca Cola changed its strategy from a localization approach where individual country units essentially ran their own operations, to a more centralized approach where key management and marketing activities took place at the company headquarters in Atlanta. The company extended this strategy to include foreign bottlers. By taking equity stakes in the bottlers, Coca Cola was able to exert greater control over them. Coca Cola made the shift to the global standardization strategy because it believed that by doing so, the company could gain significant economies of scale. However, by 2000, the company was ready to change its strategy once again. Coca Cola was losing market share to companies that used a more localized strategy, and under the guidance of its new CEO, Coca Cola began once again to give local managers more decision making power. Disaster Response Leadership Research Evaluation Table Disaster Response Leadership Research Evaluation Table In this report, we have critically evaluated an article published in the International Journal of Leadership Studies entitled Disaster Response Leadership: Perception of American Red Cross Workers (Wheeler, Weeks Montgomery, 2013). This article was chosen because it is directly related to the topic of module 2: Leadership and Leadership Theories. Research Evaluation Table Research Topic Leadership is an important aspect of management sciences. Over the past century, many theories have been developed to provide managers with the tools required to effectively lead their subordinates. From a simplistic theory cataloguing individual traits and characteristics, leadership has become a complex science shaped by many forces (ex: behavioural sciences, organizational culture, strategic management trends etc.) (Avolio, Walumba and Weber, 2009). Problem or Management Dilemma Recent traumatic events have put forward a new field of study within leadership theory: crisis leadership. Like Wheeler, Weeks and Montgomery (2013, p.79) points out: many leaders have been criticised how they have responded to a crisis situation, but little is known about how leaders must adapt their leadership style within crisis management. In order to understand this problem, Wheeler, Weeks and Montgomery (2013, p.80) highlights that the study of various crisis organizations could provide the conceptual framework to better understand how one can ... In the Film The Great Debaters created by Denzel Washington and Oprah Winfrey, the debate team and their fellow African Americans are truly discouraged by the white characters. However, these ambitious individuals decide to stick to their goals and push for success. James is one of the main protagonists in the film who progressively becomes more confident. The whole team also perceived racism and hate in such a way that made them want to bring change in their own, and their people s lives. Despite oppression, the film demonstrates that the minority are still motivated to succeed. James Farmer Jr. is arguably a very insecure individual, although, as the film progresses his confidence does as well. To begin, James stood up against his father when his father made inaccurate assumptions about him. For instance, when James came home late at night, his father thought that he had been out with a girl and drinking. He used to be a nervous child who would just listen and apologize to his father right away. However, progression is shown in James character when he decides to protest against his father s false accusations. He displayed a lot of emotion to get his message across as he showed tears and even raised his voice.
