Persuasive Essay On Mass Shootings
There are many problems in this world today. One main problem in the United States and all
over the world is mass shootings. This problem is a huge one because it involves people killing
other people and that is just unacceptable. In the last ten years there have been over 53 mass
shootings in the United States, not including the rest of the world (Chris Wilson). In the last thirty
five years there have been seven hundred and twenty two and then one thousand one hundred
seventy seven (Chris Wilson). If you look at the number of people that are killed or being
wounded, you will notice that with new devices being introduced. One of the devices that have
been introduced is a bump stock. This device is a stock for a semi automatic riflethat can basically
turn your semi automatic rifle into a fully automatic rifle. They are considering making this
attachment to a rifle illegal to the public.
A bump stock it should be banned, it should be disallowed, it should be wiped off of the face of
the earth, said Steven Wolfson, the district attorney of Clarkson county, Nevada, which includes
Las Vegas (Shortell). The Las Vegas shooting that occurred on October 1, 2017 killed fifty nine
people and injured five hundred twenty seven others. The shooter had twenty three firearms in
his hotel room and twenty of them were rifles and most of them were equipped with bump
stocks. Most people did not have a problem with the bump stock until certain people started using
them to shoot and kill humans in mass shootings. People are trying to get these bump stocks
banned because of this reason: mass shootings. Bump stocks are not the reason for mass
shootings, but they allow the gun man s rifle to shoot faster. With the gun firing faster the gun
man can kill more people because there is more projectiles firing from the gun. Most people want
the bump stock to be banned in every state. Citizens of the United States will probably begin to
buy these bump stocks because they will probably be banned soon.
If they talk about banning certain bump stocks or all of them, people will go out and begin to buy
them before they are not available anymore. If this happens more people will go out and buy them
even if they have never even thought

What Can Raise Awareness Of Sustainable Consumption Of...
Introduction:
Many consumers aren t educated on the importance of sustainability of clothing and textiles. The
media mistakenly represents sustainability and the influence it can have on the environment. This
research paper will attempt to address the question of what could raise awareness of sustainable
consumption of textiles for college students. Consumers should all be aware of how they can
conserve the environment by preserving clothing which is a concept that many people have not
acknowledged. This study is imperative to make this knowledgeable to pop culture and the
developing generation consumers to settle all perceptions of sustainability.
Sustainable fashion, also known as eco fashion, is the use of resources to construct fashion that is
environmentally friendly. Sustainability in fashion is important because the goal is to preserve the
environment and help improve instead of taking away from it with harsh resources. The purpose of
the study was to examine the knowledge students have on sustainable fashions, in addition,
examining how the awareness amongst peers and how the globalization of the awareness can
change the fashion industry as a whole.
Background:
Early endorsers of Sustainability deemed that increased globalization and association of the world
s finances would automatically raise the economics well being of all people in the world. An
abundance of adopters began to have second thoughts after seeing the disarray caused by free trade

Comparing Ovid s Metamorphoses And The Bible
When we look at creation myths throughout history and across religions we can see many
similarities drawn but also many differences. Close ties can be seen between Ovid s
Metamorphoses and Genesis in the Bible as well differences between the latter and the Aztec story
of creation. These myths can be contrasted on their themes and moral s demonstrated, the divine
intervention that takes place, and type of creation mythit is. When looking at the myths through
those aspects we can see key resemblances between the myths such as the evolution of the world
and its people and this shed s light onto the civilisation of origin.
In Ovid s Metamorphoses we a world created by the gods that is filled with plant and animal life
all of which is ruled by man. Four stages follow this creation each darker and more savage than the
last. The gods, outraged by the impiety, cover the world with a massive flood. With only two

Much like in the Metamorphoses the inhabitants are disobedient and are exiled forced to populate
and plough the land. Man grows more evil and the earth is covered by a flood again only a family

In the Aztec creation story the earth is created through the battle of the gods who strive to create
a perfect world. Each god is superseded when their version of earth fails by another who wipes it
cleans and starts over. Again four ages pass and we now live in the fifth age waiting for the earth
to be again wiped clean.
All of the creation myths have a purpose and similar central themes and moral s that set out to
educate those who believe them. In Ovid s metamorphoses, Genesis and briefly in the Aztec

Why Do Athletes Use Anabolic Steroids
Over the years, teenagers, and adults see their favorite athletes, and body builders and decide
that they want their body to look like their role model s. What many athletes and body builders
use to fulfill that look is steroids. Steroids are a quick and easy way that makes the body look
masculine with small work put in at the gym. What many people don t know is that non medical

promoting the growth of muscle for people who need them. People who abuse the use of steroids

The Captain America Civil War
The Captain America: Civil War trailer has already hinted on why the Avengers are suddenly at
odds with each other, but is it possible that Steve Rogers might simply be angry with Tony Stark
for taking a donut that he had wanted for himself? Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. have just
considered that possibility in a hilarious video, and even brought along Elizabeth Olsen as a
witness to the real reason behind the Dawn of Civil War! The People video opens with Downey
and Olsen getting ready for some snacks when Evans steps in. Is that the last donut with red,
white and blue sprinkles? he asks Downey, who is obviously not intimidated as he takes a
deliberate bite out of the pastry. Incensed, Evans asks, What did I tell you would happen if

Current and past innovation within Corporate culture
When thinking of leaders that create a corporate culture that sparked long term innovation through
an organization it s hard not to think of Steve Jobs or Vineet Nayar. Corporate culture refers to the
beliefs, values and behaviors that determine how a company s employees and management interact

This study was only a snapshot of how African American males felt about their experiences at
Morehead State University. There is a need on campus to find ways of helping African American
males connect with others. Whether it be in the classroom or outside the classroom. If I were to

students who lived on campus, and those who were solely online students. The online learners
would likely give a different perspective on the social viewpoints of college. This study sought to

made that the students would be affected by social and academic in their persistence, on line
students may have a disadvantage by not having the connections of a fraternity or being a part of a
team as a support system to be successful. Another aspect that could be analyzed is the persistenace
from students who started at MSU as freshmen, and compare that information with students who
transferred from community college or other institutions. Some of the graduates stated they believe
their determination to persist to graduation was due to having a mentor to help them throughout
their college experience. A way to further this study could be to study the experiences of graduates
who had mentors versus those who did not have a mentor and evaluate how this had an impact on
their persistence to graduate. As a part of the study for this capstone, one one of the tenets for the
African American Male Theory was used. Since the AAMT is a theoretical framework that can be
used to articulate the position and trajectory of African American boys and men in society (Bush

Team (YOT) which was established to aid in the prevention of juveniles before they offend. The
system is designed to issue the juvenile with reprimands and warnings that is referred to as the
Final Warning Scheme (Evans Ragonese, 2007, p. 1). One of the primary purposes of the Youth
Offender Team is to review the juvenile s history and examine any offences that the juvenile has

Children Of Alcoholics Growing Into Adulthood
Every generation that is born is the future of the world. We evolve as a society as one, we build
each other up for the future. The source of this extravagant outcome is people, but we cannot
succeed as a whole if there are individuals who are suffering and are in need of help. Some who
need help and guidance are children of alcoholics (COA s), they bear the time they live with their
parents and they do not receive help in the process. These children go through so many different
issues with family, school, their social, physical and mental wellbeing. Children of alcoholics
growing into adulthood have negative outcomes that can be diminished by school administration
taking a stand to exhibit attention and support to the situation. The schools can contribute
tremendously by having guest speakers to talk about the subject, and by introducing a counseling
profession that can have a thorough background, plus a program or organization that is able to
connect with these children to help and support them.
When offspring live in an emotional and unstable household, they will have many factors that
contribute to their wellbeing. By living with an alcoholic parent it will leave pressure and stress on
the child. The negative factors and risks that affect how children of alcoholics will become going
into adulthood are stated by Sihyun Park and Karen Schepp. The influences that affect the

Pros And Cons Of School And Prison
Rooted in the strict controlling environment created by an old and aging public school system the
school to prison pipeline is a path many students in the United States will face. School and prison
are so similar students who go through the system will stay in the system. From dress codes to
hours, what is and isn t allowed schools and prisons are so similar it makes sense that there is a
pathway connecting them. Both impede on the liberty promised by the government and create a
circle of manipulation and control. The United Statespublic school system impedes on the liberty
promised to the citizens of the United States of America and has been since the beginning. The
public school system started as a way to remove children from the streets during the day and to
educate them. The reason for the young to be educated was only so they would be usable for the
workforce when they were older. Later the bells and switching of classes were introduced. The
bells are similar to the ones that represent the bells in a factory. Switching of classes, the assembly
line. As time passes more and more restrictions were placed on the students attending schools.
Rules were made and the freedom of the students was imposed on for insurance and money
purposes. Adults control everything the students do. This control prohibits the fulfillment of Life,
Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Start with Life. Let s say this is life as in biological terms.

Marriage Is An Important Part Of Their Culture And Heritage
Marriage Culture For certain countries arranged marriage is an important part of their culture and
heritage. Like in the essay What s Love Got to Do with It? by Anjula Razdan, Anjula s family that
immigrated to America from the country of India believed in arranged marriage because that was
the culture they were a part of before they left India. In India the grandfather chooses who he thinks
is the best suitable partner for his grandchild, which is nothing like how Americans choose their life
partners. While Americans believe in marrying for love, that might not be the best way of marriage
for other countries due to familyreactions, success rates, and the benefits of marriage. The family
s reaction is a very important part of marriage. How your family feels about your soon to be
husband or wife helps to show if the marriage is a good or bad idea. In arranged marriage the
family chooses who they think will benefit you and them the most, and most of the time your
parents do know what is best for you. Even though in arranged marriage you are marrying a
complete stranger, most arranged marriages grow stronger and fall more in love the longer the
marriage lasts and if the couple has had children also plays a role in if the marriage will last or
not. Arranged marriages can be useful by bringing two families together through marriage or to
make an alliance between two families, for example the essay What s Love Got To Do With It? by

Differences Between The Conservative Parties Policies And...
In Great Britain, there are several key political parties such as the Conservative Party, the Labour

believe to be the best policies for the people of Britain. In this essay I will be looking at the

The Conservative party believes that the tax in Britain is too low and should be increased. They
believe that every household should pay a proportionate amount of tax based on the amount
they receive in income. The Conservatives are looking to introduce a policy where they cut
income tax for families allowing them to keep more of the money that they earn. This will
provide households with a better chance of providing for their families as they will have more
money to put towards them. (The Conservative Party Website, 2016) The Labour Party has a
very different view on the way that the people of Britain should be taxed. They believe that
British households should be taxed more if they earn over a certain amount of money. In Labours
2015 party manifesto they claim that they would make a fairer tax system where if people earned
over ВЈ150,000 a year then they would pay more in tax. (The Labour Party Website, 2016) This
would mean that the people who earn less would be able to keep more of their money as they
would not be paying as much tax as the people who earn more and in theory it would make the
poorer wealthier. The difference between the Conservative Party and the Labour Party s view on
tax is rather different. The Conservative party take the approach that everyone should pay tax but
everyone will all pay the same amount whereas the Labour Party want to increase the

Mutual Engagement And Shared Diagnosis
Mutual Engagement and Shared Diagnosis
Organizations must respond to their internal and external environment. Therefore, organizational
success heavily relies on leaderships ability to manage change. Unfortunately, many leaders struggle
to effectively lead change initiatives. In fact, Ashkenas (2013, para. 1) reported 60 70% of
organizational change initiatives fail to meet their objectives.
Change is difficult because all organizations cultures, structures, mission, and values are unique. As
a result, there is not a blueprint that leaders can follow to ensure change initiative success.
However, understanding the conditions that promote successful change processes is critically
important for leaders. If employees do not support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They enlisted volunteers to help work on the central problems reported by employees. The team
soon began to question the effectiveness and efficiency of standard practices. With the help of all
employees, the teams eventually devised a list of 30 suggestion that would greatly improve the
working environment.
Not only were the leaders impressed by the employees insights, they took action to address all of the
problems. As a result, participation increased, communication improved, relationship between
employees and management improved, and access to training and development opportunities were
wide spread. But most importantly, once the original change initiatives were introduced, employees
embraced the initiatives, offered insights on how to improve their outcomes, and ensured their
success.
Pursuing Mutual Engagement and Shared Diagnosis
Mutual engagement is the process of building a participatory dialogue among employees at all
organizational levels. Mutual engagement plays a pivotal role in change initiatives because creates
an environment where all employees are committed to consistently act in the best interest of the
organization. Shared diagnosis is a process that creates widespread agreement about the need and
requirements for change. It is important because when employees participate with diagnosing

The military coup was launched by the country s handful of ultra wealthy families who control
most of the nation s economy. Thousands of Hondurans protested the coup, but they were

dramatic shift towards brutal fascism under the Pepe Lobo administration. Honduras had a serious
problem with violence and corruption long before Lobo took over, but his response made the
problems much worse by militarizing the police force. The former Police Commissioner MarГa

aluminum in potassium hydroxide. Second, treat it with sulfuric acid and filter out the product.

Small Round Lenses Research Paper
There is a trick that makes high prescription lenses for nearsighted vision thinner. You can use it to
minimize the lens thickness of even low index lens materials such as standard CR 39 plastic. The
trick is buying small round lenses. The lens curvature of a minus prescription (for nearsightedness)
is concave. That is, the lens is thin at the center and gradually thickens until you reach the edge
where it s thickest. If you made the lens thin at the edge, it would be too thin at the center, which
would make the lens too fragile. Therefore, these lenses have an absolute minimum thickness at the
center to ensure its strength. This means that large lenses with a high minus prescription can have
very thick edges. The lower the lens material... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High index lenses are compatible with a huge number of frame styles, which allows you to wear
glasses you feel good about. A large selection is necessary to find a frame style that works best
with the shape of your face. Not all styles are compatible with all types of faces. This is also true
of frames made for small round lenses. Small round lenses may work for people with angular
features because they soften their appearance. They also work for oval faces because any lens
shape works for this type of face. However, these lenses can make people with round faces look
cartoonish, and can look out of place on people with square faces. If you re physically active,
your choice of sport frame styles is greatly diminished. They Provide Less UV, Glare, and Wind

Avoiding UV associated eye problems require consistent use of glasses or sunglasses that block

the bigger the gap through which UV reaches the eyes. That s why sun glasses tend to be either
large or tend to wrap around the

What Makes A Person Whole And Morally Sound
Virtues are what make a person whole and morally sound, they are the good that can come from
behavior or result from something (Dictionary.com). Romans believed that these were what a
mortals life was based off of. The Aeneid Virgil includes many of the virtues that the Romans value,
one being magnitudo animi. Magnitudo animi translates to greatness of the soul. This greatness of
the soul is what a person has from the inside and makes them deal with the hardest decisions or the
easiest. They persevere and in the end come out great. One person or demi god that represents
magnitudo animi is Aenas from The Aeneid. Aenas deals with his struggles and remembers what it

Internal Colonial Model Essay
A community builds from a group of people sharing particular characteristics such as goals, interest,
attitudes. In barrios and colonias chicano/as often stay within their ethnicity, and sharing a common
culture, never stepping outside the box. Therefore, the internal colonial model mocks a structured
community implementing the basic roles the community shadows driven oppressive forces. The
oppressive forces that chicano/as perceived powerless in the American society are due to

Rhetorical Analysis Of The 1969 Apollo

Culminating Activity Rhetoric can be used as a great way to convince an audience, but it has also
helped many people become better writers. The use of rhetoric in writing is crucial because it s
what makes the source effective or ineffective, so that you are able to persuade the audience.
Rhetoric is defined as, the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing. In order for the
speaker to persuade the audience is using figurative language and the rhetoric appeals. Some
appeals which consist of ethos, pathos, and logos. Each of these which is important in order to
catch the audience attention. All these text are related to the 1969 Apollo mission which included:

An example of an effective text using the appeals would be In Event of Moon Disaster by former
President Nixon s speechwriter, William Safire in 1999. This text included both ethos and
pathos which was about if a disaster occurred. William Safire s speech in 1999 was an event of a
disaster that left the citizens of the U.S mourned. Safire expressed pathos through the quote
where he talked about how they will be remembered for their courage to accomplish this
mission. An example would be, They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be
mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned
by a mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown. In this quote Safire let his
audience know that although two men lost their lives in the launch they will always be
remembered. Safire also says, In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as
one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man. From this we can infer that
these men sacrificed their lives to try to accomplish a mission that was almost impossible at the
time due to lack of technology. With this being said, the audience was most likely to react in such a
way that might have left them without a word because of the strong pathos and them being able to
understand this event with some empathy.

Metamaterial Cloaking

Abstract
Metamaterials have been a subject of increasing interest due to their ability to manipulate the flow
of EM waves. We analyse the mechanism by which metamaterials are able to exhibit this property
which is exploited to develop the Harry Potter esque invisibility cloaks. We briefly discuss the
whole new branch of optics called Transformation Optics developed for this purpose, and comment
on the extent to which these materials can cloak.
Introduction
Metamaterials are artificially designed materials which have properties that cannot be found in
natural materials.[1] They were first theoretically proposed by Veselago in 1968 as materials
having negative permeability and permittivity. This is why these are also known as Left Handed
Materials (LHM) or Negative Refractive Index materials (NIM). The first discovery in this domain
was done by Sir Pendry et al in 1996, who discovered a wire medium with negative permittivity.
This was followed by other significant discoveries like negative permeability by Pendry in 1999
and LHM by Sir Smith in 2001.
Metamaterial structures can either be periodic (homogenous) or non periodic (inhomogenous). Their
properties depend on the construction and arrangement of their constituents. These con stituents are
usually smaller

Opiates Psychology
Opiates imitate physical chemicals in the body that are expected to calm individuals during times
of stress and also help to overcome pain at times of injury or illness. When a person takes an
opiate the drug links with the brain s opiate receptors, causing a calming effect that relaxes and
eases physical pain. When taken at doses higher than medically necessary, opiates produce a strong
feeling of euphoria, overflowing the brain with feel good neurochemicals like dopamineand
serotonin, which activate the reward and pleasure pathways in the brain. This makes the use of
opiates pleasurable while also reinforced the behavior, causing the individual to associate the
taking of high doses of opiates with strong feelings of physical pleasure. Just... Show more content

Positive reinforcement receives a reward for good behavior and is likely to repeat it. Negative
reinforcement causes a behavior to be repeated and the action causes a bad feeling or situation to
go away. Physical dependence on a substance is defined by the appearance of withdrawal symptoms
when use of the substance is discontinued. Opiates induce physical dependence. Psychological
dependence is a dependency of the mind, and leads to psychological withdrawal symptoms.
Addiction can come from any rewarding behavior and is believed to be associated with particular
areas of the brain s reward system. A dependency of the mind involves a mental association with
how a particular behavior is rewarded. Physiological dependence occurs when the body adjusts
to the continued presence of a drug. These adaptations lead to negative symptoms when the drug
is removed or when the dose is dramatically reduced. Psychological dependence is a change in
emotional state that occurs after using a substance or engaging in a behavior over a period of
time. This change in emotional state is a result of changes in brain chemicals. Physical
dependence is the body s adjustment to a particular drug. The individual s body gets used to
receiving regular doses of a certain medication. When the medication is suddenly stopped or the
dosage is reduced too quickly, the person will experience withdrawal

Gun Control Personal Dilemmas
I m writing to you today as a concerned citizen of district four. I have recently been looking into
different views and perspectives on gun violence, and ways to help solve the issue in the United
States without having it limit citizen s right to bear arms. After the shooting in Las Vegas in early
October where almost sixty people were left dead and five hundred others were injured, I was
questioning the current policies and views of guncontrol in America (Times 2017). Some people
believe that as a country we should prohibit the right of people to have their own weaponry,
however, I feel like that is very unfair for those that go through all of the cautious steps to owning a
firearm. Others believe that no matter what is done the outcome will not actually help us as a
nation, and that there will forever be instances where mass shootings like Las Vegas s will occur.
Overall, I was looking for a way to help find a solution to limit the outburst of gun violence without
limiting the rights of citizens. While reading your views I completely agree with your stance that
there should be more background checks on individuals who want to obtain firearmsand that there
should be a way to allow law abiding citizens their rights to guns (Price). I was hoping to explain
to you a few different ideas I have thought about to help allow people their right to bear arms but
also make it safer for everyone at the same time.

one must work multiple jobs. She as well believes that she may be too overqualified for these
jobs but as well comes to the realization she is under qualified as not only do these jobs prove to

The Issue Of Undocumented Immigrants
As the issue of undocumented immigrants once again dominates the news headlines, our politicians
are faced with the difficult task of enforcing the laws of our land, yet humanely and ethically
tending to those who illegally reside within America s borders. As the political parties face off with
differing ideologies, the undocumented, who are seen as victims from one side and criminals from
the other, are caught in this citizenship purgatory until a political compromise can be achieved.
Until such a compromise occurs, the nation is left dealing with the fallout of this population s
existence. Not belonging, they are left to fend for themselves while living in the shadows.
Surviving through government assistance or using a stolen identity as a means to gain
employment, the undocumented struggle to survive in a nation that is aware of their existence yet

leaders must hold all lawbreakers accountable while compassionately and ethically addressing the
issue through a balanced approach of amnesty and deportation. The United States of America as a
republic is defined to have a government of laws, and not of men as stated by John Adams during
its founding (5). Therefore no man or group of men can exist above the law without disturbing civil

Poe s poem, Lenore extends further and uniquely focuses on a man s journey to accept the loss
of his betrothed using the tone and organization of the text. The poem is organized as a
conversation in four stanzas between Guy de Vere and the narrator. The first and third stanzas
are the spoken words of the narrator and the second and fourth stanzas are the verbal responses
of Guy de Vere. Poe s decision to compose his poem in this manner provides the reader with a
direct look at the raw, bare emotions of the recently widowed man. These four stanzas allow the
reader four opportunities to stand in Guy de Vere s shoes and to hear what he hears. The reader
now can identify with the complex array of emotions and stages of grief experienced by Guy de
Vere. With each stanza in the poem, the tone changes slightly showing the gradual acceptance of
the loss by Guy de Vere. In the second stanza, de Vere s tone, created by internal sound devices
and sentence structure, is hostile, demonstrating the anger felt. The change in de Vere s tone
occurring in the fourth stanza demonstrates a major evolution in his outlook toward the future. He
finally understands that although Lenore is gone, she will be accepted in Heaven; and his life
will continue without her. By talking out his feelings through conversation, Guy de Vere finally
accepts the loss of his bride to be, showing the power that one conversation can have on someone
s life. In Poe s poem, he uses structure and sound devices to show that after the loss of a loved one,
one may attribute the death to others, but with consolation and care from others, he or she will

A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the

Many readers have interpreted The Old Man and the Sea as a christian allegory because of
language and events in the text associated with the crucifixion of christ. (Unrue Santiago ).
Hemingway intended to place a visual image of christ in the reader s head when referring to
Santiago. Hemingway directly copies the descriptions of christ in the Bible with santiago in this
story. In the novel, Hemingway included the imagery of Santiago struggling up the beach
carrying a cross shaped mast across his shoulders. This part of the novel is much related to Jesus
struggling to the site of his crucifixion carrying his cross across his shoulders. The suffering, the
gentleness, and the wood it is noted, blend magically into an image of Christ on the cross, so it
may be. (Bloom Ernest Hemingway s The Old Man and the Sea ). This imagery of christ is also
portrayed when Santiago is laying on his bed face down with his arms out straight and the palms
of his hands up. This is also the position of Jesus being nailed to the cross in crucifixion.
Hemingway purposely adds these obvious similarities so that the reader can easily recognize how
the story is related to the Bible and how Santiago represents

Monte Carlo simulation is used to solve both probabilistic and deterministic problems. In the case
of a probabilistic problem a simple Monte Carlo approach can be used to observe the random
numbers, which is chosen in such a way that they directly simulate the physical random processes
of the original problem, and to assume the preferred solution from the behavior of these random
numbers. Monte Carlo simulation has wide application in performing risk analysis by building
models of possible results by substituting a probability distribution for any factor that has inherent
uncertainty. It then calculates results by using a different set of random values over and over from
the probability functions. Monte Carlo simulation produces probability distributions of possible
outcome values. Different outcome occurred can lead to different probabilities of variables.
Probability distributions are a realistic way of describing uncertainty in variables of a risk analysis.

In my paper, I will analyze the methods and techniques Hughes used to highlight the musical

They are important to Hughes and his culture, and according to the sad and painful tunes in jazz

Blues has a rather oral character style; the fundamental key is very slow and sentimental, but the
poem is full of musicality, and makes readers felt if they are staying on the scene. I felt not only
the special pleasing quality of Negro s ballad, but also felt depressed from Negro s circumstances

defined as principles for how individuals ought to treat one another, with respect to justice, others
welfare, and rights. (Citation) Essential to the success of every society is moral development.
Lawrence Kohlberg cultivated and advanced the framework of Piaget s life s work in the area of
moral development. He theorized that we formulate ways of thinking through our experiences.
Such experiences included but weren t limited to an understanding of the moral concepts of
human welfare, rights, equality and justice. Through his research Kohlberg ascertained that we
go through various stages of moral maturity and cognitive development. This paper explores the
moral development theory of Lawrence Kohlberg. With an overview of the three levels of
Kolhberg s moral development as well as insight into the various stages within each level, this
paper familiarizes its readers with Kohlberg and his life s work. Lawrence Kohlberg Lawrence
Kohlberg was born in 1927 in Bronxville, New York. At the age of twenty one Lawrence enrolled
at the University of Chicago where he obtained his bachelors degree in a year. Kohlberg asserted
that children are moral philosophers whose ability to formulate their own moral decisions develops

Pros And Cons Of Human Genetic Modification
Human genetic modification is that direct manipulation of the genome using molecular engineering
techniques. Also known as gene editing and can be implied in two different ways, somatic and
germline modification. Somatic ads, cuts or changes the genes in some of the cells of an existing
person. While germline genetic modification changes the genes in embryos most known as gene
editing for reproduction. These alterations would appear in every cell of the mother who
developed the embryo and although it has not be tried in humans, it will soon be. Human germline
modification is prohibited in more than 40 countries as it can be dangerous. Many people do not
see the danger genetic modification can cause, all they want is the most perfect baby possible....

The parents choice of wanting a perfect baby can result in even death. A laboratory on the
Harvard Medical School Campus tested germline genetic modification on monkeys which is a
similar species to the humans, like a person, a monkey has two copies of most genes (one from
each parent). This students injected the CRISPR chemicals into a fertilized egg known as Zygote.
As stated in MIT Technology, only about half of embryos will lead to live births, and those that do,
many could contain a mixture of cells with edited DNA and without. If one adds up the odds, one
d need to edit 20 embryos to get a live monkey with the version one desires. In other words, to get
the perfect blue eyes, blonde pretty girl, one would have to go through many engineering
techniques knowing the result will most likely be unsuccessful and even endangering oneself by
going through the alteration embryo

How Is Liesel Portrayed In The Book Thief
In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak there are many book thieves portrayed throughout the novel.
Some steal books for malicious intent while others steal for self improvement. The thief that is
focused on most is Liesel Meminger. She steals books to educate herself and escape from her own
hectic world into another. The titles of the books she steals help to show situations she has
encountered and situations she is trying to avoid. The title of the novel represents thieves such as
Liesel, Adolf Hitler, and Death and why they stole books. Liesel stole The Gravedigger s
Handbook, The Shoulder Shrug, The Dream Carrier, and many other books. Liesel stole her first
book from the gravedigger that buried her brother, Werner Meminger. The handbook starts out as
something to remember her brother but then becomes something to learn from when her foster
parent, Hans Hubermann, teaches Liesel how to read. She begins both reading and stealing to
educate herself and to become a more independent person. With her newfound knowledge,... Show

brother and the exorbitant numbers of deaths from World War II. It also represents the start of
Liesel learning to read. The second book she stole is The Shoulder Shrug. This book has a
Jewish protagonist and represents the destruction of information through book burnings like the
one Liesel got this book from. The title shows the doubts that the Jews have of their survival
during World War II. Liesel stole The Dream Carrier, The Last Human Stranger, and other books
from Ilsa Hermann s library. The title of The Dream Carrier reflects on the dream Liesel has had

A Rose For Emily, By William Faulkner Essay
Isolate is defined as to remain alone or keep separate from others whereas solitude is the state of
being alone. Isolation and solitude are tremendous, effective and beating emotions. They forces
the capacity to devastate a people life by overpowering it with despair and murkiness. A short
story, A Rose for Emily, by William Faulkner, was initially published on April 30, 1930. William
Cuthbert Faulkner was born in New Albany, Mississippi, on September 25, 1897. As he
experienced childhood in New Albany, Mississippi, the Southern culture impacted to him. Through
his works such a Sartoris (book, 1931), The Sound and The Fury (1929), As I Lay Dying (ballad,
1930), The Sanctuary (1931), and A Famle (1954), he delineated sequentially the rotting Southern
culture. Nathaniel Hawthorne, an American creator of Young Goodman Brown

The King Of The Franks Essay
Sabrina Fearon
History 8G
4/14/16
Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.
William Shakespeare
Do you agree/disagree/partially agree that Charlemagne was an example of all three?
Clovis, king of the Franks, established the Merovingian Empire in 481. Then, in 511, he split his
empire between his four sons. The kings in the Merovingian line continued to hand down their
thrones to their later generations, which slowly started to make them weak. This was because
they were using nepotism instead of giving positions based on merit. So, after time, positions
called Mayors of the Palace were formed. Mayors of the Palace, according to the dictionary,
were people of a line of hereditary administrative lieutenants to the Merovingian kings who
eventually took over royal function and title in the Frankish kingdoms . Over time, the
descendants of Clovis became to be known as Do Nothing kings , because they relied on the
Mayors of the Palace to do work. The Do Nothing kings began to have virtually no power, but
they still held on to their title as king. One of the most famous Mayors of the Palace was Charles
Martel. His son, Pepin became the Frankish king. Pepin s son was Charlemagne. Charlemagne, or
Charles the Great, was the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, who achieved many well known
accomplishments which have shaped the political, military, and religious aspects of Europe today.
Charlemagne was known by Einhart as a good father,

Gender Roles In 20th Century Advertising
keep her where she belongs or So, the harder the wife works the cuter she looks! the truth is that
ads like these were very common in the mid 20th century. Many companies used the existing
gender roles to appeal to consumers, sex sells and so does gender. The 20th century was the rise of
gender advertisement. Since the 20th centurywas the era of consumerism, it s natural to think
advertisement played a huge role in the popular culture and had a huge influence on how people
viewed the world. The belief that women are domestic creatures who always must be obedient to
the male figures of their lives was never a new concept in the 20th century. What was new in this
era of mass consumption was utilizing genderroles as a marketing technique to make a certain
product more desirable for the American Society. During the 20th century, American popular
culture, specifically advertising, reinforced the existing gender roles for women as the homemaker,
furthermore, creating a constraint on the socially acceptable roles for women which stayed
prevalent for many years.
Advertisement in the mid 20th century, often depicted women as only homemakers and nothing
more. Women were viewed as a trophy, they had to maintain their look, do all the housework, and
make their husband happy. A psychological research done on the effectiveness of having Betty
Crocker, a fictional character, promote general mill products was shown that the very gender roles
of women were used to advertise their

Analysis Of Gloria Anzaldua s Poem, The And English, A...
Southwestern America is home to numerous cultures, all of which intermingle and interact on a
daily basis. This creates a wealth of literature and art from the perspective of those who live with
such a variation of experiences. Authors and artists experiencing the culture associated with being a
part of many communities show the culture as they see it through their work. One such author is
Gloria Anzaldua. In her poem, To Live in the Borderlands Means You, Gloria Anzaldua reveals her
identity as a multicultural woman and the struggles that she faces in doing so. She relates this
through the use of Spanish and English, first person perspective, and gender. Acculturation was first
defined by Redfield and colleagues as a phenomenon which... Show more content on

Initially, the sight of Spanish within a work that is primarily English is unexpected, forcing
readers to take a moment to fully comprehend the text. Anzaldua s use of Spanish utilizes this
quality, but it also demonstrates her flexibility in language and the way that both Spanish and
English play important roles in how she identifies herself. Both languages are a part of
Anzaldua, and applying them acknowledges her refusal to conform into one simple stereotype
or idea. The poem is written from the second person perspective, placing the reader into
Anzaldua s viewpoint. Anzaldua could easily employ first person perspective, using the
pronouns I or me to describe her experiences, yet she did not. Instead, she uses the pronoun you.
This is a bold choice that forces readers to see Anzaldua s experience from her viewpoint. Second
person perspective is evident before the poem is even read. To Live in the Borderlands Means
You is both the title and the phrase repeated in some form at the beginning of each stanza. Such a
strong statement acts almost as a call to action that captures readers and tells them of the
experience of living in the borderlands. Each stanza frames the reader as the person experiencing
life as Anzaldua experiences it, creating a more intimate relationship with the text. First or third
person perspective creates a narrative setup in which the poem is directed at the world around the
reader, giving them a view into the poem

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Mass Shootings There are many problems in this world today. One main problem in the United States and all over the world is mass shootings. This problem is a huge one because it involves people killing other people and that is just unacceptable. In the last ten years there have been over 53 mass shootings in the United States, not including the rest of the world (Chris Wilson). In the last thirty five years there have been seven hundred and twenty two and then one thousand one hundred seventy seven (Chris Wilson). If you look at the number of people that are killed or being wounded, you will notice that with new devices being introduced. One of the devices that have been introduced is a bump stock. This device is a stock for a semi automatic riflethat can basically turn your semi automatic rifle into a fully automatic rifle. They are considering making this attachment to a rifle illegal to the public. A bump stock it should be banned, it should be disallowed, it should be wiped off of the face of the earth, said Steven Wolfson, the district attorney of Clarkson county, Nevada, which includes Las Vegas (Shortell). The Las Vegas shooting that occurred on October 1, 2017 killed fifty nine people and injured five hundred twenty seven others. The shooter had twenty three firearms in his hotel room and twenty of them were rifles and most of them were equipped with bump stocks. Most people did not have a problem with the bump stock until certain people started using them to shoot and kill humans in mass shootings. People are trying to get these bump stocks banned because of this reason: mass shootings. Bump stocks are not the reason for mass shootings, but they allow the gun man s rifle to shoot faster. With the gun firing faster the gun man can kill more people because there is more projectiles firing from the gun. Most people want the bump stock to be banned in every state. Citizens of the United States will probably begin to buy these bump stocks because they will probably be banned soon. If they talk about banning certain bump stocks or all of them, people will go out and begin to buy them before they are not available anymore. If this happens more people will go out and buy them even if they have never even thought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An example of an effective text using the appeals would be In Event of Moon Disaster by former President Nixon s speechwriter, William Safire in 1999. This text included both ethos and pathos which was about if a disaster occurred. William Safire s speech in 1999 was an event of a disaster that left the citizens of the U.S mourned. Safire expressed pathos through the quote where he talked about how they will be remembered for their courage to accomplish this mission. An example would be, They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown. In this quote Safire let his audience know that although two men lost their lives in the launch they will always be remembered. Safire also says, In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man. From this we can infer that these men sacrificed their lives to try to accomplish a mission that was almost impossible at the time due to lack of technology. With this being said, the audience was most likely to react in such a way that might have left them without a word because of the strong pathos and them being able to understand this event with some empathy. ... E C Department, Indian Institute Of Technology Roorkee Metamaterial Cloaking Soumay Gupta1andTanvi Sharma1 1411606714116070 1 E C Department, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee Abstract Metamaterials have been a subject of increasing interest due to their ability to manipulate the flow of EM waves. We analyse the mechanism by which metamaterials are able to exhibit this property which is exploited to develop the Harry Potter esque invisibility cloaks. We briefly discuss the whole new branch of optics called Transformation Optics developed for this purpose, and comment on the extent to which these materials can cloak. Introduction Metamaterials are artificially designed materials which have properties that cannot be found in natural materials.[1] They were first theoretically proposed by Veselago in 1968 as materials having negative permeability and permittivity. This is why these are also known as Left Handed Materials (LHM) or Negative Refractive Index materials (NIM). The first discovery in this domain was done by Sir Pendry et al in 1996, who discovered a wire medium with negative permittivity. This was followed by other significant discoveries like negative permeability by Pendry in 1999 and LHM by Sir Smith in 2001. Metamaterial structures can either be periodic (homogenous) or non periodic (inhomogenous). Their properties depend on the construction and arrangement of their constituents. I have recently been looking into different views and perspectives on gun violence, and ways to help solve the issue in the United States without having it limit citizen s right to bear arms. After the shooting in Las Vegas in early October where almost sixty people were left dead and five hundred others were injured, I was questioning the current policies and views of guncontrol in America (Times 2017). Some people believe that as a country we should prohibit the right of people to have their own weaponry, however, I feel like that is very unfair for those that go through all of the cautious steps to owning a firearm. Others believe that no matter what is done the outcome will not actually help us as a nation, and that there will forever be instances where mass shootings like Las Vegas s will occur. Overall, I was looking for a way to help find a solution to limit the outburst of gun violence without limiting the rights of citizens. While reading your views I completely agree with your stance that there should be more background checks on individuals who want to obtain firearmsand that there should be a way to allow law abiding citizens their rights to guns (Price). Poe s decision to compose his poem in this manner provides the reader with a direct look at the raw, bare emotions of the recently widowed man. These four stanzas allow the reader four opportunities to stand in Guy de Vere s shoes and to hear what he hears. The reader now can identify with the complex array of emotions and stages of grief experienced by Guy de Vere. With each stanza in the poem, the tone changes slightly showing the gradual acceptance of the loss by Guy de Vere. In the second stanza, de Vere s tone, created by internal sound devices and sentence structure, is hostile, demonstrating the anger felt. The change in de Vere s tone occurring in the fourth stanza demonstrates a major evolution in his outlook toward the future. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, the sight of Spanish within a work that is primarily English is unexpected, forcing readers to take a moment to fully comprehend the text. Anzaldua s use of Spanish utilizes this quality, but it also demonstrates her flexibility in language and the way that both Spanish and English play important roles in how she identifies herself. Both languages are a part of Anzaldua, and applying them acknowledges her refusal to conform into one simple stereotype or idea. The poem is written from the second person perspective, placing the reader into Anzaldua s viewpoint. Anzaldua could easily employ first person perspective, using the pronouns I or me to describe her experiences, yet she did not. Instead, she uses the pronoun you. This is a bold choice that forces readers to see Anzaldua s experience from her viewpoint. Second person perspective is evident before the poem is even read. To Live in the Borderlands Means You is both the title and the phrase repeated in some form at the beginning of each stanza. Such a strong statement acts almost as a call to action that captures readers and tells them of the experience of living in the borderlands. Each stanza frames the reader as the person experiencing life as Anzaldua experiences it, creating a more intimate relationship with the text. First or third person perspective creates a narrative setup in which the poem is directed at the world around the reader, giving them a view into the poem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
