Femininity And Womanhood In The Poisonwood Bible
The Poisonwood Bible written by Barbara Kingsolver goes over a variety of topics which raise
curiosity to readers. As time progresses, readers grow their understanding of the different themes and
perspectives in each book. However, the theme of Femininity and Womanhood stands out to me since
the beginning, as it expresses major differences with men and women. Femininity experiences
continuities and changes throughout time. Even back when we were young...when he regaled her with
words and worse, for curtains unclosed or slips showing (68). The daughters of the Price family
encounter a cultural shock of womanhood when they arrive to Africa. In such places like Africa,
exposing a part of your body and not protecting it counts as a sin of womanhood. However, females in
other regions like America are able to wear whatever they decide on. America and Africa, two
countries with completely different lifestyles, expresses the contrast between a developing and a
declining nation. After settling into their new home, Congo, Orleanna Price slowly begins to think of
how her husband identifies her. Her husband, Nathan Price, impacts her feeling like his instrument, his
animal. Nothing more (89). Not only does she undergoes this type of perplexed thought of her
womanhood, but she also notices that the Congo women feel as an object by their husbands. Even
today s society, women are still affected by the intimidation of male power such as their interaction
with others or

The Silkwood Movie Essay
Summary The Silkwood Movie is about a nuclear facility, and the lives of three people who worked
there. This movie is based off a true story, about the conditions and safety concerns for the nuclear
plants, back when the research was still lacking. The main problems in the movie, is when it came to
the health of the workers from the chemicals let off from the nuclear plant. The three main characters
are: Karen Silkwood (the main character), Drew Stevens (the boyfriend), and Dolly Pelliker (the
roommate). All of these characters worked in the nuclear plant and were exposed to the plants poor
safety conditions. Being exposed to the plutonium caused the main character Karen Silkwood, to raise
awareness of the health concerns to the workers, from the exposure of plutonium. In an article by,
Live Science, plutonium is explained as a radioactive silver metal, that is a byproduct of the nuclear
power industry ( sjkdfkljshd). Plutonium has also been linked to causing cancer in people who were
exposed to high levels of the chemical. Karen s main focus was to get the Union on her side, because
many of the workers already knew the health risks and decided to ignore them. Most of the workers
did care about their health, however; they needed the job from working at the nuclear facility. Later
Karen was exposed to high levels of plutonium, but the causes of her death were unknown.
How the movie pertains to class In Safety Education there are many safety concerns and conditions

Ethical Ethics And Corporate Ethics Essay
Ethics are principles of behavior based on the ideas of what is good and what is bad. Business ethics,
or also known as corporate ethics, is a form of ethics that is used in the business environment. The
study of business ethics looks at the decisions that businesses make and whether those decisions taken
are right or wrong. Many company executives are unethical, because their number one goal is not to
satisfy customers, or clients; Instead their number one goal is to make as much profit as they can no
matter what. What this type of companies fail to realize is that there is long run and short run profit
maximization. A company can maximize its profits by in the short run by being unethical; however, in
the long run, the bad publicity, lawsuits, etc. will make the company suffer plenty in both the public
appearance and the monetary aspect. One of the biggest legal scandals of a company being unethical
was in 2001, when, Enron, a natural gas pipeline company went from having $65 billions in assets to
being bankrupt 24 days after. Enron Corporation was founded in 1985, in Houston, Texas, it was a
merger between Houston Natural Gas Co. and InterNorth Inc. Enron reached dramatic heights, it was
the seventh largest corporation in America, and named the Most innovative company by Fortune
magazine for 6 years straight. Enron innovated the entire natural gas market by adding a natural gas
trading segment; making it the world s largest energy trading company. At its peak

Importance Of Money In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby was published during the nineteen twenties by the author Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald the
author lived in the United States during this time period. In this time, the world at this time had just
gone through the First World War and the economy was rising and the America was changing from a
rural farm based nation to a more an urban based nation. During this time the really important events
that shaped the society were the ban on Alcohol, the Great African American migration and this new
idea of the American Dream where wealth was really important. The understanding of the time period
in which the Great Gatsby was written contributes to the reader s understanding of the themes within
the Great Gatsby by showing the importance of money and the empty pursuit of pleasure has led to the
corruption of the American Dream. To begin with, in this time period the idea of old wealth meaning
people who ve had a generational rich and new wealth both showing the importance of money have
been emerging contributes to the understanding of a theme in Great Gatsby which was an era of
decayed social and moral values and in some cases intellectual . For instance, Tom, in the upper class,
the husband of Daisy is one example of how the importance of money has shown how this is an era of
decayed social and moral values because of Money he doesn t have a deep meaningful relationship
with Daisy instead he s only with her because of her social status and money and she only married him

Causes Of Breast Cancer
Breast cancer often starts off is the lobules that supply them with milk or the inner lining of milk

Drinking College Campuses
Every year, approximately 6,000 to 22,000 students die on college and University campuses (qtd. in
CintroÌn X), and thousands of these deaths can be attributed to alcohol over consumption (A Sober
Assessment of High Risk Drinking on College Campuses). If there are not appropriate steps taken to
address the situation, minors will continue to lose their lives as a result. As individuals enter college, it
is likely that they will be exposed to alcohol, whether they meet the legal drinking age or do not.
Many of these college students, specifically freshmen, are experiencing freedom for the first time in
their lives and it can be relatively easy for them to get carried away, resulting in irresponsible decision
making which often involves alcoholic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rather than being able to learn from his poorly made decision, Carson s life came to an abrupt end.
At the end of the day, if an individual over consumes alcohol, that shouldn t be the last decision they
make. A person s life, dreams and future shouldn t depend another s hesitation to call for medical

John De Crevecoeur And Phillis Wheatley The Seduction Of...
For J. Hector St. John De Crèvecoeur and Phillis Wheatley the seduction of freedom was strong
enough to have a hold over them throughout their lives. They express obtaining or wanting
independence through writing about certain myths of American culture and identity. This idea of
unfiltered, unbiased liberty saturates images of America. Even before it officially became a gaggle of
nations, North America was known as a wide open space full of possibilities. Crèvecoeur and
Wheatley want the opportunity of self determination, but it comes easier for one and with more
complications for the other. Wheatley has the added disadvantage of her race and gender, while
Crèvecoeur comes to these lands with all possibilities open and within reach. These outstanding
factors affect the way these two write about American identity. Crèvecoeur s Letters of An American
Farmer: What is an American and various poems by Wheatley comment on the experience of being an
American and share a critique on oppression, but there is a dichotomy in their specific views of the
American Dream and the Self Made Man due to their different positions in society.
The American Dream is the idea that every person should have an equal opportunity to achieve
success. Crèvecoeur and Wheatley do not explicitly reiterate this definition, but the idea permeates
their writings. In Letters of an American Famer Crèvecoeur writes, we are the most perfect society
now existing in the world. Here man is free as he ought to be

am 18 years old and I play a forward position at a club called Oranje Zwart in Eindhoven, the
Netherlands. My team is currently in the race to become national champion. Thank you for watching
my video, I hope you will enjoy it. Furthermore, it is important that your personal video demonstrates
your most valuable skills and your appearance on the field. To give coaches a clear presentation of
your qualities and skills the video should contain footage of you passing, scoring, dribbling and

Ethical Dilemmas In What About Bob
What About Bob tells a comical story of a Therapist, Dr. Marvin, and his new patient Bob. Desperate
for help, Bob feels he cannot manage four weeks without his new therapist and decides to crash his
therapist s vacation. The movie depicts many different ethical dilemmas throughout the movie such as
dual relationships, boundaries, and standard of care. Dual Relationships Dr. Leo Marvin, because of
the family s fondness of Bob and his own personal desire for his family members to like and admire
him, he repeatedly continues to let Bob spend time with him and his family. Dr. Marvin should have
been more straightforward with his family about the importance of being overly friendly to a patient
and the implications that could follow. Boundaries In the beginning, Dr. Leo Marvin tries to set clear
boundaries with Bob in a calm manner, but it does not work. In observing the conversations between
Bob and Dr. Leo Marvin, it seemed like the therapist was in too much of a rush to start his vacation
and not enough time to really set up Bob to feel prepared with a plan for his month departure.

Hematoma Research Paper
Choice A is the best answer. All of the choices are complications of parathyroid surgery. The
development of an expanding hematoma in the pretracheal space has the highest mortality in
postoperative patients if left untreated as it compresses the airway. This complication must be
recognized and treated immediately by opening the wound and evacuating the hematoma. If untreated,
the hematoma may progress rapidly, causing airway obstruction. In contrast, most small hematomas
do not require treatment[1].
Choice B is not the best answer. After a 4 parathyroid gland exploration, calcium levels must be

Ethos is also a form of persuasion used through the alterations of [the] charisma and the credibility of

the NAACP, the video demonstrated how E.D Nixon, president of NAACP, wanted to use Rosa Parks
as the face of the revolution opposed to Claudette Colvin. This was because Colvin was only 15 years
old, and would result in decreased credibility. Pathos uses emotional or affective appeals as a form of

Analysis Of British Indian Sculptor Anish Kapoor
Dhruv Setty
Analysis: Anish Kapoor
In this discussion I will be describing two works designed by British Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor.
This is followed by discussion of the two significant aspects of his work context and narrative. Born in
Mumbai, India, in 1954, to parents of Punjabi and Iraqi heritage. Anish Kapoor moved to London
early in his career to pursue studies in design. He first gained notoriety for his work in the 1980s for
creating biomorphic sculptures and installations Revered as being often profound, verging and
inspiring . Much of his work incorporates a modernist feeling. A modernist feeling of materiality with
an interest for the control of structure and the view of space. His work consists of natural figures,
using specific materials (for example, stone, limestone and marble). His models slowly extended
toward more minimalist designs (later in his career). Kapoor uses rich tones, amazingly high quality
surfaces, and uses perspectives that create optical illusions. This shows deep thinking and
understanding of space.
1000 names (Which refers in Hinduism to all the names of the god Vishnu), 1982
Pigment on gesso and wood A return trip to India in 1979 opened Kapoor s eyes to new ideas and
perspectives. These new ideas and perspectives were reflected through his use of saturated colours and
striking designs in bodies of work such as 1000 Names. The 1000 Names series consisted of

Compare Antigone And Civil Disobedience
In both Letters from a Birmingham Jail and Antigone , Civil disobedience becomes the answer to
conflicts both fictional and in reality. Antigone and Martin Luther King, Jr. are both icons for defying
certain laws and people in charge in attempts to fight for what they believe in. Although they both
technically broke the law to support a cause, Antigone and King had different approaches in doing so
and different goals. Antigone openly defied her leader in a direct way to accomplish a singular goal,
while King s defiance had a more complex goal in which his civil disobedience was only facet of.
King s goal was unity and equality amongst people while Antigone fought to bring honor to her
brother. Also, the way in which they perform the disobedience varies, the steps each one takes reflects
their feelings and the goals they were seeking. Between the two, I sympathize more with King, as I
feel his actions and goal was overall more noble and intricate. Despite the difference in outcome, both
Antigone s and king s goals were commendable and both rebels payed the ultimate price for their
deed. In both of these pieces of literature, civil disobedience is seen as a necessary tactic for fighting
for what one believes is right and although different, Antigone and King inspire generations of
protests to this day.
In Sophocles Antigone, Antigone decides that her brother s honor is worth more than her own life. She
willingly sacrifices her life as well as the last bit of honor her

Analysis Of The Book Taken Hostage By David Farber
The United States history during 1977 to 1989 went through two presidencies and whirlwind of events
happened. When President Jimmy Carter became president he wanted to lower the inflation rates to
make life easier for the people of the United States. While that was his goal it got completely derailed.
Near the end of Jimmy Carters presidency, a group of Iranian students took over the U.S Embassy in
Tehran and took people hostage. Over the course of the 444 days the hostages where held captive
while the people of the United States voted for a new president to help lead them into a new direction.
The people voted for Ronald Reagan. While he was president things didn t go as he planned as well.
The issues with Iran did not calm down and escalated to something bigger. After the Iran hostage
crisis, the US had another issues with Iran and it was the Iran Contra affair. During this essay I will be
talking about the book called Taken Hostage by David Farber and the information in the book. The
book is about the time frame of Jimmy Carter s presidency and the issues with Iran and the hostage

Contra affair and the lasting issues between Iran and the United states.

majors and indies, Travis describes the Rough Trade business philosophy as one that helped create a
nurturing environment for the bands : It creates the psychological conditions for musicians to do their
best work ... Long term contracts will put a band in debt from recording and touring costs. Then you
have to produce when you re not ready. You have to write songs when you have nothing to say (qtd. in
Reynolds 105). Majors wanted their artists to create a stream of products that would generate income
for the label, and the system used to induce such results was to indenture the artists for a lengthy
period of time by offering, as demonstrated in the EMI Sex Pistols and CBS Clash deals, large

Rationalist vs. Behavioralist Paradigms
What are the two business paradigms? Within the business disciplines, we are fortunate to have two
major paradigms (schools of thought): rationalist and behavioralist. An ideological/theoretical conflict
has existed between the two paradigms for over 50 years. Is human decision behavior more consistent
with the rationalist models or behavioralist models? Behavioral finance has grown out of this conflict
and will likely result in the resolution of the conflict as time passes.
What is a paradigm? Thomas Kuhn s concept of paradigm is useful background for the debate
between rationalists and behavioralists over decision making. His book The Structure of Scientific
Revolutions is the premier philosophy of science work written ... Show more content on

Since no paradigm ever solves all the problems it defines and since no two paradigms leave all the
same problems unsolved, paradigm debates always involve the question: Which problem is it more
significant to have solved? Like the issue of competing standards, the question of values can only be
answered in terms of criteria that lie outside of normal science altogether, and it is that recourse to
external criteria that most obviously makes paradigm debates revolutionary. If many revolutions have
shaken the very foundations of various fields, then why are we as lay people unaware of it?
Textbooks. Textbooks are teaching vehicles for the perpetuation of normal science and have to be
rewritten whenever the language, problem structure, or standards of normal science change. They have
to be rewritten in the aftermath of each scientific revolution, and, once rewritten, they inevitably
disguise not only the role but the very existence of the revolutions that produced them. Textbooks
truncate the scientist s sense of the discipline s history and then proceed to supply a substitute for what
they have eliminated. This textbook derived tradition never existed. And once the textbooks are
rewritten, science again comes to seem largely cumulative and linear.
What is the rationalist paradigm? The rationalist paradigm (e.g., microeconomics and finance) is
focused upon the structure and processes of markets. The market is seen as dominating other potential

Destruction of a Great City in The War of the Worlds by...
In 1898, H G Wells wrote The War of the Worlds, a novel that envisioned the destruction of a great
city and the slaughter of its inhabitants. The invaders were Martians, but aliens were not needed to
make this devastation a reality. In a few years after the publication of the book, human beings would
play the part of inhuman pillaging with the realization of war and its effect toward society.
There has never been a war where no one was killed. From the beginning, man has always been
engaged in hostilities. Suffering and losses become a daily part of life in the front lines. Soldiers are
reduced to expendable objects and losing dignity is present in every soul. There are no substitutes to

with situations that provoke their responses to danger. When silence engulfs them, visions of horror

Applying Certificate Iv Of Training And Assessment
Applying Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to work in assisting youth towards market
demand in Timor Leste
Introduction
Timor Leste received independence on 30 August 1999 after a majority of the population voted for
pulling out of Indonesian occupation of the country. Life was not easy after getting the light of
independence as many sectors were destroyed to the ground by the militias. An enormous
responsibility rested on people to exert efforts to reorganize everything from the ground up. The
education system was highlighted as a core sector to be improved both in quality and service within
the country. Education and training are some of the main tools being used to wipe away the tears of
victims, who suffered much during the conflict. Technical vocational education and training (TVET) is
believed to be a key area which will assist in restoring many devastated sectors which totally
paralyzed the country. In early 2010, the TVET system was formally established in a national strategic
plan with a particular function in assuring, formulating and establishing the national qualification
framework (NQF) (PATVET, 2011). It has been tremendously effective through its system of
competence based training and competence based assessment in working towards market needs. This
TVET system has evolved smoothly in Timor Leste as it is culturally appropriate to local beliefs and is
flexible in its approach. The role of the TVET System in producing competent and qualified

My Fathers Prostitute By Steven Whitacre
Steven Whitacre experienced a very traumatic childhood of abuse from his father which led to a very
difficult adulthood. In his book My Fathers Prostitute , he talks about his life, starting out when his
father first abused him to more recent times in adulthood to where he finally sought help and started to
move on in his life started to live the life he should and deserves. This book really opened my eyes on
what all goes on in this world that I would have never guessed. Every eight minutes, a child is
sexually assaulted in the U.S., and 93% know the perpetrator ( Adult Survivors of Childhood ). To me
this statistic seems insane and I cannot ever imagine being sexually assaulted by anyone let alone one
of my parents that I am supposed to trust and love. When you really think about it, that how every
eight minutes a child is getting sexually assaulted it is astonishing. It makes me wonder how many
people I know that I have been sexually assaulted but don t tell anyone. I assume there are many
different cases of sexual assault and how there are different levels of how traumatic they are to the
individual someone came upon. With some people, the sexual assault only happened once, and with
others like the author of My Fathers Prostitute it happens during their entire childhood to impact the
individual even more. I am not saying that the individuals who have only been sexually assaulted once
came out un hurt or traumatized, but I would just imagine that it would not leave

Abortion Is Not A New Idea
According to Merriam Webster s Dictionary abortion is, the termination of a pregnancy after,
accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus. Abortion is not
a new idea, that is only understood in America. It is a procedure that has taken place worldwide for
centuries. There is much debate over this topic because everyone has their own opinion of the idea.
Some believe it should be banned forever and in all circumstances and others believe that abortion
should be allowed and socially acceptable. Abortion in the United States of America has especially
been a hot topic issue. Whether it has been deciding if it should be legal or not, defining what it is, if it

This also means that only the people that in all reality, could afford the child they are attempting to
abort, could pay for a doctor proficient enough to do the procedure safely. Before abortions were
legalized, in the 1920 s and 1930 s, groups of people trying to make birth control more accessible to
women, which was highly opposed by the Roman Catholic church (Garrow 835). This shows that
people only see the value of a woman by what she creates and carries in her body, because if people
do not want birth control to be accessible to women, they only want them around to carry children.
Years went by without much luck on the goal of legalizing abortion, for the safety of the mothers or
the mothers well being in general. Until Roe v. Wade. It is a common misconception that Roe v. Wade
was the only court case revolving around abortion occurring at this time, but realistically, there were
dozens. With that being said, it is without a doubt that it was not a fluke. It was not by chance that the
passing of this court case was a one time scenario. If Roe v. Wade had not occurred, there would have
been any of the other cases similar to Roe v. Wade that would have taken its place in the Supreme
court in 1973, when the case was officially votes on and passed, which allowed women to have an
abortion and be in relative privacy if she chose to do so (Garrow 836). This is a revolutionary court

Alien Registration Act
Racism had been escalating in the United States since the 19th century. Anxiety between migrant
workers and the white workers had been excessive for years as many bosses forced them to compete
for jobs and land. By 1924, the U.S. government prohibited nearly all immigration from Japan.
Numerous states banned nuptials between white people and people of Asian ancestry. The United
States became full of fear and hatred after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941.
Anxiety of more attacks by the Japanese on their cities, homes, and businesses was especially present
along the Pacific coast of the United States. However, this event did not give the government or the
whites the right to discriminate and violate the rights of loyal hard working Japanese Americans. Prior
to World War II, there were quite a bit of Japanese descendants living along the west coast. The

What is the item that holds the most value for you? That was the first topic for the essay that I have to

most is the necklace my mom gave me. It was a necklace that has two pendant on it: a cross and my
birthstone. I love this necklace so much, so I decided to write about it and why I value it is so
important to me. I wrote my essay and thought that it would be great and I will definitely get a high
grade on it. However, the grade that I got was lower than what I expected and I was so upset with

However, when I entered high school, I knew it would be a different story. In the beginning of the
year, teachers grades very leniently just to see where your writing skills are, but as time goes on the
grading of essays becomes harsher and my grades continued to drop. One of my biggest problems in
writing was that I mixed up my verb tenses constantly. I spoke to my teacher and explained my
problem. She understood my problem and gave me a few suggestions. She offered to proofread my
essays, suggested that I go to the student center in the library, and even speak to the our librarian, who
is an author.. Getting help from my teacher helped me a lot in my writing. There were times when I
asked them to read my drafts, and they would comment on how much I had improved. Sometimes, I
still struggle with my tenses when I write. Consequently, I make sure that I go over it at least twice, or
more, and let some of my peers read it for comments. Each time my friends tell me that my writing is
actually great, I don t fully believe them because I know there is still room for improvements.
Although my writing improved greatly, I still struggle using the correct tenses and usually mix up past
tense and present tense. I continue working to improve improving my writing skills even further, and
hopefully writing won t be my problem

Features And Functions Of Any Interconnection Devices That...
In this report I will be outlining the features and functions of any interconnection devices that you
might think of using. In the report I will include Network Interface Card, Router, Switch, Hubs,
Gateway, Bridge and Wireless access points.
Network Interface Card
This provides the hardware interface between a network and computer. It is technically a network
adapter hardware in the form factor of an add in card like a PCI or PCMI card. A number of network
interface cards work with wired connection and some others are wireless. The majority of network
interface cards support either wired Ethernet or Wi Fi wireless standards. Ethernet network interface
cards plug into the system bus of the computer and have jacks for network cables, and wifi network
interface cards have built in transmitters/ receivers. With modern computers many network interface
cards are preinstalled by the manufacturer. All networks interface cards have a speed rating like 11
Mbps, 54 Mbps or 100 Mbps that imply the general performance of the unit.
Router
A router is a small physical device that can join multiple PCs together. A router is basically a 3
gateway layer device, this means that it can connect two or more networks and that the router operates
at the network layer of the OSI model. Home networks normally use a wireless or wired internet
protocol router, internet protocol being the most familiar OSI network layer protocol. An internet
protocol router like a DSL or cable modem broadband

to damage or defects of the brain rather than issues in the sensory processing systems themselves. This
condition generally affects visual, auditory or tactile perception with visual agnosia being most
common. Because of this, it will be the focus of this essay. There are many subcategories of visual

Border Wall Research Paper
Research Paper Often times current events and issues can be linked to events throughout history; one
situation in particular regarding border walls has gone through trial and error. A border wall is simply
a wall along the border surrounding a country or state, although the complications that encompass it
are anything but similar. Border walls have been built to defend or punish a country, but in modern
time it s main use is to maintain illegal immigration. The leading Republican Presidential candidate
promises to build a wall along the border separating the United States and Mexico if he gains
presidency. How does he plan on paying for this? He doesn t; Donald Trump has publicly announced
that he plans on forcing Mexico to fund said wall. It goes without saying that there is a vast amount of
controversy behind this topic of discussion.

from cost, there are other issues at hand. The sad reality is that the border region is still viewed as a

Macbeth, death seems merely as the last act of a very bad play, an idiot s tale full of pomposity and

seizing his throne in retrospect seem like scenes from a script Macbeth was never capable of playing.

You Say You Want A Resolution Analysis
A resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something. In Heidi Pollock s essay, You Say You
Want a Resolution she describes the true meaning of a New Year s resolution. A lot of people might
pick only one resolution for New Year s. They might say they want to lose a certain amount of weight
or to stop drinking soda. According to Pollock though, that is not the correct way. In Pollock s words ,
A true resolution should be an addition to your life, should expand your horizons and help you grow as
a person . Her view is that people should have three resolutions; one from the Health Lifestyle
category, another from the Education/Practice category, as well as one from the Project/Task category.
The reason for the three is to increase the odds in being successful in fulfilling at least one of the
resolutions. So my three New Year s resolutions for next year are washing my face every night before
bed, reading a book I would not normally read at least once a month, and finally finding a job for
myself. My first resolution will definitely be hard to achieve, especially every night. The reason for
this is because I like to stay up late till I become so tired that I end up going to sleep before washing
my face first. Another reason is that I usually come home late and by that time I am so exhausted that I

The Blind Man Sparknotes
In the beginning of the story the narrator did not feel too good about the blind man in the first
paragraph he says that the only experience he has had with blind people was in the movies when they
were often the person that moved slowly and did not laugh. The narrator did not have such a positive
view on people that were blind because the narrator thought they were people that he could not relate
to and were for the most part simple. When the narrator s wife was talking about inviting the blind
man over she says the that the blind man s wife had just passed away and then mentions the name of
his wife Beulah the narrator then immediately asks if she is a negro. The words that the narrator uses

The Abc Sitcom 2 Broke Girls
The CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls has had continuous success ever since it first aired in 2011. What
makes 2 Broke Girls different than many other TV sitcoms is that almost every member of the main
cast has a different rationality, making the show one of the most diverse sitcoms to ever exist. The two
broke girls are named Caroline and Max. Caroline has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim figure. She
grew up in a wealthy home, never had to work, and attended college. Caroline lived an upper class
lifestyle until her father was convicted of financial wrongdoings and lost everything. In contrast, Max
has brown hair, brown eyes, and a larger figure and has worked since she was very young. The two
girls are waitresses in a run down diner. In addition, the diner is owned by a very short Asian man
named Han and the cashier is an elderly black man named Earl. The sitcom follows their lives as they
learn how to deal with each other and their lower class lifestyles. Similar to many sitcoms, 2 Broke
Girls takes advantage of the diverse ethnic and racial stereotypes of the characters to make comedic
entertainment. While the comedy in the show does grab the attention of the audience, what also stands
out is the connection of the characters. All of the commonalities that come with living in similar
situations overpower their differences in race and ethnicity. Even though the characters stereotypes
and interactions are constantly being mocked for comedic material, they all have a special bond

However, the theme of Femininity and Womanhood stands out to me since the beginning, as it expresses major differences with men and women. Femininity experiences continuities and changes throughout time. Even back when we were young...when he regaled her with words and worse, for curtains unclosed or slips showing (68). The daughters of the Price family encounter a cultural shock of womanhood when they arrive to Africa. In such places like Africa, exposing a part of your body and not protecting it counts as a sin of womanhood. However, females in other regions like America are able to wear whatever they decide on. America and Africa, two countries with completely different lifestyles, expresses the contrast between a developing and a declining nation. After settling into their new home, Congo, Orleanna Price slowly begins to think of how her husband identifies her. Her husband, Nathan Price, impacts her feeling like his instrument, his animal. Nothing more (89). Not only does she undergoes this type of perplexed thought of her womanhood, but she also notices that the Congo women feel as an object by their husbands. • 3. The Silkwood Movie Essay Summary The Silkwood Movie is about a nuclear facility, and the lives of three people who worked there. This movie is based off a true story, about the conditions and safety concerns for the nuclear plants, back when the research was still lacking. The main problems in the movie, is when it came to the health of the workers from the chemicals let off from the nuclear plant. The three main characters are: Karen Silkwood (the main character), Drew Stevens (the boyfriend), and Dolly Pelliker (the roommate). All of these characters worked in the nuclear plant and were exposed to the plants poor safety conditions. Being exposed to the plutonium caused the main character Karen Silkwood, to raise awareness of the health concerns to the workers, from the exposure of plutonium. In an article by, Live Science, plutonium is explained as a radioactive silver metal, that is a byproduct of the nuclear power industry ( sjkdfkljshd). Plutonium has also been linked to causing cancer in people who were exposed to high levels of the chemical. Karen s main focus was to get the Union on her side, because many of the workers already knew the health risks and decided to ignore them. Most of the workers did care about their health, however; they needed the job from working at the nuclear facility. Later Karen was exposed to high levels of plutonium, but the causes of her death were unknown. How the movie pertains to class In Safety Education there are many safety concerns and conditions ... • 4. Ethical Ethics And Corporate Ethics Essay Ethics are principles of behavior based on the ideas of what is good and what is bad. Business ethics, or also known as corporate ethics, is a form of ethics that is used in the business environment. The study of business ethics looks at the decisions that businesses make and whether those decisions taken are right or wrong. Many company executives are unethical, because their number one goal is not to satisfy customers, or clients; Instead their number one goal is to make as much profit as they can no matter what. What this type of companies fail to realize is that there is long run and short run profit maximization. A company can maximize its profits by in the short run by being unethical; however, in the long run, the bad publicity, lawsuits, etc. will make the company suffer plenty in both the public appearance and the monetary aspect. One of the biggest legal scandals of a company being unethical was in 2001, when, Enron, a natural gas pipeline company went from having $65 billions in assets to being bankrupt 24 days after. Enron Corporation was founded in 1985, in Houston, Texas, it was a merger between Houston Natural Gas Co. and InterNorth Inc. Fitzgerald the author lived in the United States during this time period. In this time, the world at this time had just gone through the First World War and the economy was rising and the America was changing from a rural farm based nation to a more an urban based nation. During this time the really important events that shaped the society were the ban on Alcohol, the Great African American migration and this new idea of the American Dream where wealth was really important. The understanding of the time period in which the Great Gatsby was written contributes to the reader s understanding of the themes within the Great Gatsby by showing the importance of money and the empty pursuit of pleasure has led to the corruption of the American Dream. To begin with, in this time period the idea of old wealth meaning people who ve had a generational rich and new wealth both showing the importance of money have been emerging contributes to the understanding of a theme in Great Gatsby which was an era of decayed social and moral values and in some cases intellectual . For instance, Tom, in the upper class, the husband of Daisy is one example of how the importance of money has shown how this is an era of decayed social and moral values because of Money he doesn t have a deep meaningful relationship with Daisy instead he s only with her because of her social status and money and she only married him ... Hector St. John De Crèvecoeur and Phillis Wheatley the seduction of freedom was strong enough to have a hold over them throughout their lives. They express obtaining or wanting independence through writing about certain myths of American culture and identity. This idea of unfiltered, unbiased liberty saturates images of America. Even before it officially became a gaggle of nations, North America was known as a wide open space full of possibilities. Crèvecoeur and Wheatley want the opportunity of self determination, but it comes easier for one and with more complications for the other. Wheatley has the added disadvantage of her race and gender, while Crèvecoeur comes to these lands with all possibilities open and within reach. These outstanding factors affect the way these two write about American identity. Crèvecoeur s Letters of An American Farmer: What is an American and various poems by Wheatley comment on the experience of being an American and share a critique on oppression, but there is a dichotomy in their specific views of the American Dream and the Self Made Man due to their different positions in society. The American Dream is the idea that every person should have an equal opportunity to achieve success. Although they both technically broke the law to support a cause, Antigone and King had different approaches in doing so and different goals. King s goal was unity and equality amongst people while Antigone fought to bring honor to her brother. Also, the way in which they perform the disobedience varies, the steps each one takes reflects their feelings and the goals they were seeking. Between the two, I sympathize more with King, as I feel his actions and goal was overall more noble and intricate. Despite the difference in outcome, both Antigone s and king s goals were commendable and both rebels payed the ultimate price for their deed. In 1898, H G Wells wrote The War of the Worlds, a novel that envisioned the destruction of a great city and the slaughter of its inhabitants. The invaders were Martians, but aliens were not needed to make this devastation a reality. In a few years after the publication of the book, human beings would play the part of inhuman pillaging with the realization of war and its effect toward society. There has never been a war where no one was killed. From the beginning, man has always been engaged in hostilities. Suffering and losses become a daily part of life in the front lines. Life was not easy after getting the light of independence as many sectors were destroyed to the ground by the militias. An enormous responsibility rested on people to exert efforts to reorganize everything from the ground up. The education system was highlighted as a core sector to be improved both in quality and service within the country. Education and training are some of the main tools being used to wipe away the tears of victims, who suffered much during the conflict. Technical vocational education and training (TVET) is believed to be a key area which will assist in restoring many devastated sectors which totally paralyzed the country. In early 2010, the TVET system was formally established in a national strategic plan with a particular function in assuring, formulating and establishing the national qualification framework (NQF) (PATVET, 2011). It has been tremendously effective through its system of competence based training and competence based assessment in working towards market needs. In his book My Fathers Prostitute , he talks about his life, starting out when his father first abused him to more recent times in adulthood to where he finally sought help and started to move on in his life started to live the life he should and deserves. This book really opened my eyes on what all goes on in this world that I would have never guessed. Every eight minutes, a child is sexually assaulted in the U.S., and 93% know the perpetrator ( Adult Survivors of Childhood ). To me this statistic seems insane and I cannot ever imagine being sexually assaulted by anyone let alone one of my parents that I am supposed to trust and love. When you really think about it, that how every eight minutes a child is getting sexually assaulted it is astonishing. It makes me wonder how many people I know that I have been sexually assaulted but don t tell anyone. I assume there are many different cases of sexual assault and how there are different levels of how traumatic they are to the individual someone came upon. With some people, the sexual assault only happened once, and with others like the author of My Fathers Prostitute it happens during their entire childhood to impact the individual even more. They might say they want to lose a certain amount of weight or to stop drinking soda. According to Pollock though, that is not the correct way. In Pollock s words , A true resolution should be an addition to your life, should expand your horizons and help you grow as a person .
