Jose Domingo Ullo The Father Of Chicano Art
Jose Domingo Ulloa was born in Chitre, Republic of Panama. Domingo lived from 1919 1997 and
was known as The Father of Chicano Art. Domingo created this piece of art work in 1957. The
painting was based upon real life events that happen day to day. It was one event that really stood out
to Domingo which took place in 1957 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The painting is about nine black
students who tried to enter one of the most highly accomplished and prestigious school in Arkansas,
Little Rock High School on September 23, 1997. As these students were entering the school they got
assaulted with stones, rocks and rubbish by the whites. As you can see on the painting Domingo tried
to capture as much of the horror on the canvas that those black

Discuss The Four Basic Financial Statement Analysis...
List four basic financial statement analysis procedures, describe how you would calculate each
procedure and discuss why you would use each procedure. Based on your reading and outside
research, please communicate your own understanding of the requirements. Citations and references
are required.
The use of financial statements is to provide individuals, but not a specific group with compressed
financial data showing them the information that pertains to the decision they want to make. They are
also able to see past performance of their company and comparing corporation that is in the same
industry (Edmonds, Tsay, Olds, 2011).

What Is The Sociological Imagination
C. Wright Mills published this book in 1959. The Sociological Imagination is the awareness of the
relationship between personal experience and wider society. His main goal of the book was to merge
two different concepts of social reality, the individual and society. The ability to see things socially
and how they interact and influence each other. Mills emphasized the importance of seeing the
connections between social structure and individual experience and agency. He also talks about
personal troubles and public issues. What we often see and experience as personal troubles, like being
unemployed and not being able to pay yours bill are actually public issues. These are the result of
social problems that goes on in society and affect many

Motivation For The College Student
Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly divorced
and now wondering how she was going to be all that she had hoped and dreamed of becoming. All her
once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm of a place, there was a
silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and grounding force. The two
princes became her motivation to start over, create a new life, and start rediscovering herself.
For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college writing
student will focus on increasing writing abilities and becoming a better writer by class end. With a
deep rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and perfected over the
course of the student s time in school. For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that
need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased compound complex sentences. Therefore
with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building upon what I
have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. My motivation is to
accomplish greater polished writing skills and more personal success in writing. Motivation is the
driving force found in the heart and mind that makes goals and dreams happen.
There is a time I remember when vocabulary in writing was strongly encouraged and then I attended
my first college class

The Ancient Greek Olympics
People with the greatest honor are remembered in the Olympics. The Olympics had started a
revolution that is still on today; it has brought the most talented people together to compete in events
to show each others great ability. The olympics is the new age of competitive sports that will lead
people to unlock their full potential, and start a story that will never be forgotten. The Ancient greece
olympic games go back to 776 bc in a little village called Olympia. The games were a religious event
that was performed to honor the ancient Greek God Zeus. The games were held every four years. The
Greeks had four national sports festivals, where athletes from near cities come to compete. Which

Communication and Why We Need Effective Communication
Introduction
With every interaction, whether active or passive, we find ourselves communicating with other people.
Even our silence connotes some intention, which others may interpret at their discretion. Whether by
artifact or by attendance, every human being constantly participates in the process of communication
Defining Communication
Communication means exchange of ideas, views, opinion, understanding, feelings, emotions, facts or
information between two or more persons by any sources or medium.
Communication is not only the essence of being human, but also a vital property of life... John A.
Piece
Communication is broadly defined as interaction of thoughts, exchange of ideas and building proper
motivation between two binary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of communication is best understood when there is a lack of it. Listening,
understanding and interpreting are as much integral to communication as words verbal, written or
gestured. How we communicate or express ourselves goes a great way towards determining how our
expressions are interpreted.
To quote Karl Popper, It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood .
Faulty or incomplete communication can completely mar the purpose of communicating and may
result in damaging consequences. This is where understanding the importance of communication and
communicating the right way comes into picture. Not everyone is equally endowed with the ability to
effectively express himself and this is where the importance of communication skills can be truly
fathomed. The importance of communication is equal in every walk of like, be it in personal,
professional or social life.
Components of Communication
Communication is effective when a concise and clear message is delivered well, received successfully,
and understood fully. The process of communication has the following distinct components: the sender
the message the medium the receiver feedback. The Communication Process
The communication process consists of message being sent and received.T he message maybe verbal

The Naked Man of Steel by Angus Taylor Essay
THE NAKED MAN OF STEEL In 2006, Angus Taylor, a South African sculptor, created a giant
carbon steel statue of a naked black man (Froud, 2011). The artwork was named Positive (Fig 1). The
origin and meaning behind this name will be revealed further on in the essay. The statue caused varied
reactions in three different locations, namely on the campus of the University of Potchefstroom, in
front of a Strand apartment block and finally a farm in the middle of the Karoo. There were some
harsh reactions towards the artwork from sections of the White community and some of the Black
community. These reactions led to issues regarding the right to freedom of expression from the artist
and the public. Statues are generally erected and displayed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Woestyn had no concerns as to how it would affect the public, but he realised that the moment it was
erected, it caused a stir (Woestyn 2014). One of the complaints was the size of the artwork 2.6m high
and weighing in at 750kg (Peters, 2006). Some of the criticisms were: It is disgusting. If the owner
likes it so much he should put it in his lounge (Peters, 2006) Why must we Christians be subjected to
this? (Peters, 2006) This is a conservative town and by tomorrow it will probably have underpants or a
robe on it (Leppan, 2006) The latter comment proved to be an apt forecast, because a few days later it
had a nappy tied around its genitals (Peters, 2006). Taylor said, The groin was modelled to the
proportions of the David statue by Michelangelo which in proportion is relatively small (Taylor 2014).
This quote suggests acceptance by the viewers of the David statue, yet the viewers of Positive are
critical. After several complaints, Woestyn could no longer handle the protesting so he removed the
statue (Woestyn 2014). An anonymous blogger on Heldeberg news and Info blog said: No longer will
this statue torment our community, and innocent children will no longer be subjected to seeing the
private parts of this very vulgar statue! (Leppan, 2006). Hence the negative reaction led towards the
second removal of Positive . From this, one can deduce that many people are not comfortable with
nudity.

Cost and Reasonable Rental Value
I. Purposes of the Brief
This brief amicus curiae does not address the merits of the predatory pricing allegation against
BuyGasCo Corporation ( BuyGasCo ). It speaks only to the nature of the cost accounting system that
we, as students of accounting, think to be appropriate for addressing the issues presented by cases of
this general type.
We offer our views on this subject out of concern about the allocation of indirect costs used in
assessing the appropriate gasoline cost value in State of Florida v. BuyGasCo Corporation, 2003
05143 (D. FL. 2003). We regard the allocation system employed in that opinion to be inconsistent
with systems in common practice. Use of that system has a potential adverse effect on both the motor
fuel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This system is often imprecise as it distributes costs on the basis of a single variable when there are
typically several factors involved, particularly when there are multiple end products sold.
To address this imprecision, we offer a refined costing system which reduces the use of generalized
averages in the allocation of costs. In general, this is accomplished by first dividing the indirect costs
into homogeneous pools so that we can more appropriately distribute them. Second, these cost pools
are allocated on the basis of the driver of that cost segment which ensures that costs are more
accurately tied to their source. Thus, a refined costing system is preferable as it ultimately delivers a
more correct cause and effect relationship between costs and their sources.
Although this system is preferable, it has some disadvantages. First, refined costing systems require
more information about the nature of the costs involved, and often gathering this information results in
additional costs for the firm. Second, even with a broad range of data available, some averaging and
estimations are still necessary. So, without outside motivation, such as the MFMPA, small firms retain
simple costing systems.
IV. Dr. Humboldt s Refined Costing System
In his analysis for the Defendant, Dr J. T. Humboldt proposed BuyGasCo adopt a

School Pass Research Paper
Little did I know the school pass I received from the office ended up being more than what I had
originally thought. As a sophomore, I knew that most of the passes were for guidance appointments or
doctor s appointment. After the pass was handed to me, several thoughts ran through my mind. What
is this pass for? Maybe this is just for an appointment I had completely forgotten about. Or could I be
in trouble? My legs moved quickly down the stairs and through the main hallway, shuffling in
between people to get to the main office. After getting to the office and taking a quick glance out the
windows, I saw what looked like my sister s car. I wondered what she was doing at the school,
considering she had graduated that summer. I realized this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

struggled with her not being around. It was a lot of change all at once, not only for me but also my

existed was what made everything so hard. It was difficult for me to wrap my head around the fact that
I wasn t able to just walk down the hallway or take a short drive to see my best friend. The shortest
trip to see her would be by an airplane. I thought I would be able to talk to her all the time but this was
not the case. As time went on, I began to understand that school came first for her and that I needed to
let her study and make new friends. I learned to be patient and that she would get ahold of me when
her time was not occupied. She got to come home for breaks, so that made things easier for our family
too. When she had the opportunity to come home for breaks, our relationship remained constant. It s

Public Opinion of the Affordable Care Act
Nearly two years ago the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into
place by President Obama. This signature placed by President Obama has never rested especially well
with the American public. As to be expected, the views on health care laws are colored by
partisanship. Overall, the opinions towards the health car law have wavered slightly since the passing
in March of 2010, and support has yet to reach favorable in 2014.
Role of Public Opinion
Even with the public being well aware of the elements of the health care law, particularly individual
mandates, there is still a lack of understanding of it. According to Pinto (2013), 41 percent of
Americans felt they had a good understanding of what the new law entailed, but even after two years
and implementation the number has increased just six points to 47 percent. The purpose behind public
opinion was to make more affordable health care insurance for uninsured citizens originally (Pinto,
2013). Supporters of the Affordable Care Act believed that government run insurance companies could
successfully lower rates by using greater leverage than the private industry (Pinto, 2013). Supporters
of such public plans, believed that a small set of companies had control for local health insurance
markets. Having such public opinion at such a huge national level meant insurance companies would
cooperate. Many Democratic Politicians were publically in favor of public opinion for many reasons

Charles Dickens Great Expectations
Many people say that writing is nothing more than a way of the author to express himself. This is true
in many cases but none as much as in Great Expectations. In many ways the narrator/protagonist Pip
is Charles Dickens in body and mind. While there are many differences between the story and Charles
Dickens life there remains one constant. This constant is the way Pip as the narrator feels, because
these feelings are Dickens s own feelings about the life he lead. Since Great Expectations was written
towards end of Charles Dickens life, he was wiser and able to make out the mistakes and regrets of his
life, and Pip experiences them all. While Great Expectations is seen as a tragic book not many people
really think about where these themes come from, and when the book is read with the knowledge of
Dickens life it truly reveals new meanings.
Charles John Huffam Dickens born February 7th, 1812, was born a poor man. When Charles Dickens
was 12 his father John Dickens was sent to jail because he had too much debt. Since Charles father
was sent to jail Charles had to drop out of school and join a shoe blacking company. When Charles no
longer had to work he felt betrayed by his parents for making him do what was their rightful job,
taking care of the family. He thought that the second he started working for that company his youth
was gone. Once his father had received the family inheritance Charles was able to go to school again
and his father was released from jail. When

that are genetically informative siblings, adoptees, pedigree data etc. Monozygotic (identical) have all

Structural Steel And Sustainability Of Construction Materials
Structural Steel and Sustainability The sustainability of construction materials is a huge topic in today
s world of engineering. Finding a way to improve the efficiency, costs, and environmental impact of
construction is a key discussion topic. When it comes to structural steel being used today, our society
is pushing towards the use of green steel. This term is used to represent the life cycle of steel as well
as the production of structural steel. While most construction materials differ significantly from one
another, structural steel is manufactured from recycled materials, but only at a limited number of
locations. Another important aspect of green steel is the cradle to cradle process that it goes through.
The cradle to cradle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over ninety percent of structural steel is able to be obtained from recycled materials; only two percent
of steel goes into landfills after the use of its lifetime, while the other ninety eight percent is used
again for other buildings and needs. One thing to keep in mind is that once the steel is recycled, it does
not lose any of its attributes and is not considered to be down cycled. Structural steel is able to
maintain all of it characteristics and can be used to build just about anything. Not only do buildings
being constructed today have recycled steel from old structures, but they can also contain material
from old vehicles and appliances. A very important component of recycling structural steel is mill
production. The cradle to cradle nature of steel has caused an increase in efficiency and waste
utilization of steel mills. The recycling process has improved so much over the years that we are even
able to capture the dust that is produced in the process and in turn use it to our advantage. Mill
production has become very efficient and will only improve as our electric grid improves. As the
electric grids across the United States become more renewable, we will in turn be able to decrease the
carbon footprint left behind by steel production. Since 1980, we have been able to produce the same
amount of steel at almost twelve hours faster. Today we are able to produce

Macro Level Analysis
Sociologists use two levels of analysis: macro and micro. Macro level analysis observes large scale
configurations of society such as, social change and stability. Micro level analysis observes small
scale configurations of society such as, communication or group motivation. Symbolic interactionism,
functional analysis, and conflict theory each fall under either a macro or micro level analysis category.
Symbolic interactionism focuses on micro level analysis because, it focuses on face to face
interactions; how society establishes social life through the use of symbols. Functional analysis and
conflict theory both fall under the macro level analysis category. Functional analysis uses macro level
analysis because, it focuses on the innner parts of society and how these parts work together and

Symbolic interactionists would focus on the micro level, they would analyze what people do and what
technology does for people on a day to day basis. They would also analyze the way people use

functionalists and conflict theorists would focus more on the macro level, how changes in the lives of
Americans has caused a rise in the obesity rate. Functionalists might stress that today the upsurge in
technology has taken over a lot of jobs which, in turn, causes a decrease in income forcing people to
buy cheap fast food to save their money, especially those who have several mouths to feed.
Functionalist might also analyze the change in lifestyles, that technology has increased laziness in
America, how you can turn the lights on, lock the door, turn the TV on, order food and necessities that

Personal Statement In Structural Engineering
A simple bridge truss was the first structure I ever analyzed. The simple combination of beams that
could hold cars, trains, and trucks over long spans of water fascinated me. Having the tools to analyze
the loads on the truss further increased my interest in structures. I encountered the bridge in a textbook
for my first engineering class.
Knowing that the professor, Mr. Paul Davids, was a tough teacher, I asked him for the textbook so I
could study and get ready for the class over the summer. Just arrived from Belize, I was determined to
succeed. In class we learned about forces on simple members and then we put the members together to

Do Nations Truly Last
Do Nations Truly Last
Do nations last forever? As Noah Feldman put it, Empires inevitably fall, and when they do, history
judges them for the legacies they leave behind. Many countries have shown this including Rome,
Ancient Greece and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The leaders and citizens of these
powerful nations all believed as if they were God among men and their country was the shining light
in a world full of darkness. As you know, they all eventually came to an end. No nation can last

from the beginning of time, for some odd reasons people thought being the son of a ruler makes them

It seems that when your country is on the brink of destruction, you would band together with your

Antipsychotic Therapy For Schizophrenia Essay
Medications used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia are often used when the individual is in a state
of psychosis. These medications are commonly antipsychotics, but can also include atypical
antipsychotics as well. Types of antipsychotics include phenothiazines, chlorpromazines,
butyrophenones, and thioxanthenes. Phenothiazines work by blocking dopamine receptors in the
brain, preventing excess stimulation and thus reduced symptoms. All antipsychotic medications do
help reduce positive symptoms, but none reduce negative symptoms. However, they also result in
many negative motor side effects. Atypical antipsychotics work by influencing serotonin receptors and
typically have less motor side effects than antipsychotics. Some of these medications include

Here, Johnson lets the readers know that he too, fears law enforcement agents. His experience has

There are a number of tasks and basic provisions which are very important for the whole nation. One

The main focusing point of army to produce the best soldiers is their training. The selection of soldiers
in their teen age years is the best policy for almost all the countries. Through these teens cognitive

Armies could also train the older but old age people could be trained physical and it is very difficult or
it could be said that it is impossible to train them mentally or forced them to change their likes and

suitable to put them on the main track of army. As according to British Army Recruiting

I sat down and actually took the personality test with my best friend. She wanted to compare our

intuition, feeling, and judgement. Okay, I thought. So, I read up on it. My friend did not tell me what
her personality was, but I can interpret how we connect because of who I am. Protagonists are natural
born leaders, full of passion and charisma. I thought to myself, hmm I am not so sure if that is what I
think about myself. So, I did some more reading and then it made sense to me. It says that I am
unafraid to stand up and speak when they feel something needs to be said and it is easy to

The Chemical Compounds Of Synthetic Fertilizer
Once soil is intoxicated, the chemical compounds in synthetic fertilizer create a harmful environment
for microbial life and are later dispersed to surrounding areas through the process of hydrology. In
naturally fertile soil, microbial life is diverse and abundant. In fact, as soil microbiologist David Zuber
has stated in his Soil Microbiology FAQ article, there can be hundreds of millions to billions of
microbes in a single gram (about the size of a navy bean in volume) of soil. These microbes range
from bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, cyanobacteria, protozoa, and microarthropods, all of which play
very specialized roles in maintaining the integrity of soil. Innately, microbes ward off pathogens,
provide root protection, and maintain oxygen and moisture levels. (Hermary). For example, microbes
consume a naturally abundant and potent form of nitrogen (NH4+), along with other compounds, and
excrete preferred forms of nitrogen (NO2 N and NO3 N). This process, fixation, allow microbes to
maintain a fixed levels of essential chemicals. Likewise, through the process of denitrification,
anaerobic bacteria provides oxygen to soil by removing excess nitrate (NO3 N), while other microbes
aerate and disperse the supplied oxygen. While microbes execute an assortment of other tasks, it is
apparent that these organisms create a balance. However, with the introduction of synthetic fertilizer,
this natural balance is ravaged. As a result of repetitive application of synthetic

Street Traffic, Safety, and Accidents
Roads are the backbone and essential modes of transportation, providing many different supports for
human civilization. Among the early and inexpensive technologies available for developing
comprehensive traffic, management proposals are Road capacity, traffic sign (i.e. pavement markings,
road sign, etc.), Guard rails, cross marking etc traffic calming, vehicle parking regulations and
controls, pedestrian measures, accident reduction programs, Bus priority measures. As technology
evolved, application of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) was introduced. (Olaogbebikan J. E et al.
2013). Street lighting also improves safety for drivers, riders, and pedestrians. They concluded that on
average the presence of street lighting reduces the severity of injuries by a factor of 3.
Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are advanced applications which, without embodying
intelligence as such, aim to provide innovative services relating to different modes of transport and
traffic management and enable various users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated,
and smarter use of transport networks. Roadways are, unfortunately, the scene where preventable
urban fatalities take place. Pedestrians unknowingly crossing busy streets; drivers distracted by their

Essay On Meditation By Descartes
An important question that rises in Meditations VI and previous meditations for Descartes is whether
material things exist. In the First Meditation, Descartes had denied that materials things do not exist.
After proving God s existence, Descartes accepts the strong possibility that material objects do exist,
since now he is able to perceive things clearly and distinctly. Descartes presents us two arguments for
the existence of material things, imagination, and the senses. The purpose of this essay is to provide a
careful interpretation of the demonstration Descartes gives of the existence of materiality. First,
Descartes distinguishes between imagination and understanding, The mind, when it understands, in a
sense turns toward itself and looks at one of the ideas that are in it, whereas when it imagines, it turns
towards the body, and intuits in the body something that conforms to the idea (93). Imagination
requires a body, the intellect does not. In the case of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes has said the senses are a part of the process of thinking, and clarifies what he means when
he speaks of the senses, Yet I certainly do seem to see, hear, and feel warmth. This cannot be false.
Properly speaking, this is what in me is called sensing (sentire). But this, precisely so taken, is nothing
other than thinking(Section 29). Descartes does not deny that these perceptions may come from an
outside source and that it is natural to believe that the senses give information about the physical
world. Although he has learnt to mistrust nature he cannot altogether rule it out as a reliable source of
the truth. Secondly, God would not have given him a faculty which would lead him into error if he
used it correctly. Thus, the reliability of his senses rests not on their inherent reliability (as he
criticised in Meditation I) but on the principle that God would not allow them to deliver false

The Alleviation Of Poverty And The Complete Eradication Of...
The alleviation of poverty and the complete eradication of financial constraints among most
individuals are two important processes that strive towards the achievement of a better life. The
inclusion of income security programs in the federal policies and programs of most governments is
supposed to protect its citizens from impoverished situations once they grow older. This paper is a
brief essay that discuses one income security program (Canada Pension Plan) that affects life in a day
to day manner in specific focus to the country of Canada.
The Canada Pension Plan is one of the income security programs set up by the government in order to
assist its citizens to save for their future (Gros et al, 2013). As a college student living within the
Canadian community, this program has numerous benefits to financial future. To begin with, the CPP
allows individuals to make contributions early in life and then begin to receive monthly payments
once individual touch the age of sixty. However, there are some factors that may influence the process
of policy making for this income security program. One of the factors that affect CPP is the salary and
remuneration one receives (Hemmeter, 2015). This is because the pension is deducted from the salary
based on the earnings that one makes.
According to Steve Hick, income security programs are mainly devised to save Canadians from
unexpected economy circumstances that could arise and interrupt their lives (2013, p. 3). Historically,

We will talk about the iconic figure Li Ka shing, a famous investor from Hong Kong. There are
specific analysis two classic cases of Li Ka shing. In 1970, after two oil shocks, the global oil prices

cash flow difficulties. After the acquisition of Husky Energy Company, he made a series of rapid

In Wonderland and through the looking glass world language is not only the means of communication,
the characters use it the same way as people use power; to gain superiority upon one another. As
Daniel Whiting comments: The invention view seems to assume that whether an utterance has
meaning and what meaning it has it entirely up to the speaker. [8] This can been seen especially in the
character of Humpty Dumpty, who gives his own meanings to the words. Carroll is toying with the
language and communication using its ambiguity and various references to confuse Alice. Moreover,
the communication gains a new meaning, its role is no longer to transmit a message to the listener; it
is transformed into meta communication. Most of the conversations in the two texts consist of talks on
how to communicate, Alice being the one who communicates on a different level than the characters
she encounters. As Gabriel Schwab puts it: As in a dream, language is both malleable and concrete;
words are condensed, dialogues stripped of their pragmatic function, meanings are displaced
metonymically, and references are suspended or transformed. [9]
Having pointed out the fact that Alice is copiously being challenged by the language games with the
characters, one observes another significant motif in

Analyzing Psychological Disorders: Understanding Schizophrenia and Biopsychological Case Studies
of Anxiety and Drug Abuse
Let us discuss and dive into the study of a disease called schizophrenia. We will be taking a look at its
symptoms, its causes, the areas of the brain it affects, its neural basis, and the appropriate drug
therapies for the disease. Having an informed understanding of the disease and what it entails is
crucial to making sure patients that suffer from schizophrenia receive the proper treatment and care
from their psychiatrists. Afterwards, we will also be looking at a couple of case studies involving
anxiety and drug abuse. As for now, our focus will be on the terrible disease of schizophrenia.
PART A:
We shall begin with a bit of its history, as well as what schizophrenia actually consists of. The word
schizophrenia is less than one hundred years old, and means the splitting of psychic functions. It
affects only about one percent of the world s population, however those it does affect are comprised of
all races and cultures, and socio economic factors have no effect on who developments schizophrenia.
It typically has an onset of late adolescence to early adulthood. BOOK CHAPTER 18, P.467 If a

Similarities Between Medea And Legally Blonde
The Murderess and the Fashionista Throughout literary history, there have been a majority of stories
based on males and their adventures. But what about fictional works based on strong women? In
Ancient Greece, Medea was focused on a leading woman who was driven and ambitious. A more
modern film, Legally Blonde, shows a girl persistently going against the flow to make dreams come
true. Today, I am going to show how the plot and personalities of Elle Wood from Legally Blonde and
Medea are alike using their shameful break ups, revenge, friendships, obstacles, and how this makes
them good heroes. What shame was brought about when Jason dumped Medea? To answer this, there
are a few basic things that need to be understood about women in Ancient Greece. In this age, women
were thought to be a man s servant: whether she serve for strictly sexual pleasure or to also raise his
offspring, women were of little to no status without a man. In fact, they would not have been

Speaking of friendships, Aegeus and Paulette are just one human similarity. There is a chorus in both
stories, although Medea s is a bit more traditional. In Legally Blonde, it begins by showing our sorority

A Girl Of The Limberlost Analysis
In the novel A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter, there lies in the pages the themes of
nature and moths, both intrinsic motifs sunk deep into the bones of the storyline. The beauty and
elegance of nature is viewed by the characters as a direct manifestation of the hand of God. As such,
the characters in the story basked in the glory of the outdoors and spent most the time perusing the
surrounding areas around their homes. Each character in the novel had a different relationship to
nature. For some, such as nature was a way to find inner peace. For others, nature represented the
turbulence and wildness upon which the course of life took you. Specific places out in the surrounding
environment novel also had a noteworthy part in the theme of nature. And then you have characters in
which nature played a more significant role such as Elnora and her mother Mrs. Comstock s life. The
focal point of the story is focused on the heroin Elnora Comstock with her collection of moths and her
crotchety mother Mrs. Comstock. Elnora is a poor necessitous girl who receives no support from her
mother. This is due to the fact that Mrs. Comstock blames Elnora for her husband s death by
asphyxiation in the limberlost swamp. All of the nurturing and care she had came from Margaret and

Sleep Is An Important Factor
Both the conscious and unconscious mind revolve around one fundamental aspect of human function:
sleep. While there exists many different theories about the exact function of sleep, it is scientifically
proven that this phenomenon keeps the brain working efficiently. The body possesses many states of
consciousness, both conscious and unconscious. Sleep is the ring leader of the unconscious mind, and
makes sure the body runs healthy while we are blissfully unaware of our surroundings. Sleep has
always been a behavior that integrates itself into everyday life. In fact, we spend about one third of our
life sleeping. Often times people take sleep for granted, but it is essential in order to feel refreshed.
While we are sleeping, the hypothalamus regulates body functions. (Swann, 2013). Seven to nine
hours of sleep is necessary for the brain to restore. Sleep is an important factor because it affects one s
health. The amount of sleep a person gets at night can affect their academic performance, number of
accidents, amount of injuries, and an increase in the chance of obesity. (Noland et al, 2009). Numerous
attributes that interrupt one s sleep are sleeping disorders, the amount of stress in one s life, alcohol
consumption, caffeine intake, homework load, school hours, jobs, and management skills. (Noland et
al, 2009). An average, healthy person falls asleep in about ten minutes. During this time, a person will

Lao Tzu Religion
Within the bible, Jesus many times over admonishes the covetous feeling towards material wealth.
The passages of Matthew 6:19 through 6:34 exemplify Jesus teachings on living a life without lusting
for material power, and pointing out the pointlessness of amassing worldly treasures. The Old Master,
Lao Tzu was a figure similar to Jesus in both his style of teaching and his message of living a life for
the divine, he would certainly find agreement in Jesus admonishment of desire. In analysis of the
Bible, one notices that Jesus taught a strict adherence to simple living. Within the New International

Both men lived in areas under direct oppression of a governance exploiting the local people. City life
at the time was probably seen as new and undemanding form of living. Jesus had but to look out to the

he was at odds with. Similarly, the ruling party in today s China would be the Zhou Dynasty.
According to historian K.E Brashier, the Zhou ruling part was described as: The greater lineage, if it
has survived, is the direct succession from father to eldest son and is not defined via the collateral
shifts of the lesser lineages [...] (Ancestral Memory). It is easy to understand the repercussions of a
patriarchal, father to son, feudal society on the local peasantry. Clearly Lao Tzu and the Taoist sages

an extravagant accumulation of wealth to be sowed by the poor and reaped by the rich, while also
seeing as to how local spiritual leaders survived off the land and provided for themselves would
superbly form the basis of Lao Tzu s anti accumulative philosophy. I could come to the same

Although there were several psychological factors present in Kaysen s diagnosis and story there were
several others. For example, each of the main characters had experienced different diagnoses. Kaysen
had been diagnosed with Character Disorder, Cynthia was diagnosis was severe Depression, Daisy

Descartes Second Meditation Essay
To gain a better understanding of readings in philosophy one must follow some important steps. Just
reading a passage once or twice is not enough as readings in regards to philosophy can sometimes be
overwhelming and complex, for first time readers to comprehend. Readers need to have good
comprehension skills and a good background in vocabulary. Maria, you stated, In the second
meditation, Descartes hits upon a belief which he cannot doubt. What is this belief and why is it
immune from doubt? Evaluate Descartes s claim about the certainty of this belief. I hope you have a

Descartes thinks he finds a belief which he cannot doubt. What is this belief and why is it immune to
doubt? Descartes has convinced himself that there is nothing in the world; no sky, no earth, no minds,
no bodies. The text reads, does that follow that I don t exist either? No, it does not follow; for if I
convinced myself of something then I certainly existed. The Second Meditation Descartes first
interpretation is, This is the one thing that can t be separated from me. I am, I exist that is certain.
Descartes view seem to be I think, and since I think then I exist. And since I believe that I exist then
my belief would have to be true. No one can hold that as a false belief. At this point, Descartes is
reasonably certain he exists but he is unsure of what this I is. Descartes then briefly touch on the ideas
of a soul and what he knew the body to be. The text reads, It is only when I think I am certain that I
exist. This gives us on what is truly important to Descartes which is the fact that if one think, then they
must truly exist. Remember Descartes refers to himself as a thing think. Like I mention in the First
Meditation Descartes takes back what was said. As he is unsure of if he is one with the body or

Domingo created this piece of art work in 1957. The painting was based upon real life events that happen day to day. It was one event that really stood out to Domingo which took place in 1957 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The painting is about nine black students who tried to enter one of the most highly accomplished and prestigious school in Arkansas, Little Rock High School on September 23, 1997. The Sociological Imagination is the awareness of the relationship between personal experience and wider society. Mills emphasized the importance of seeing the connections between social structure and individual experience and agency. He also talks about personal troubles and public issues. • 5. Motivation For The College Student Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly divorced and now wondering how she was going to be all that she had hoped and dreamed of becoming. All her once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm of a place, there was a silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and grounding force. The two princes became her motivation to start over, create a new life, and start rediscovering herself. For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college writing student will focus on increasing writing abilities and becoming a better writer by class end. With a deep rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and perfected over the course of the student s time in school. For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased compound complex sentences. Therefore with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building upon what I have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. My motivation is to accomplish greater polished writing skills and more personal success in writing. Motivation is the driving force found in the heart and mind that makes goals and dreams happen. There is a time I remember when vocabulary in writing was strongly encouraged and then I attended my first college class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even our silence connotes some intention, which others may interpret at their discretion. Whether by artifact or by attendance, every human being constantly participates in the process of communication Defining Communication Communication means exchange of ideas, views, opinion, understanding, feelings, emotions, facts or information between two or more persons by any sources or medium. The importance of communication is best understood when there is a lack of it. Listening, understanding and interpreting are as much integral to communication as words verbal, written or gestured. How we communicate or express ourselves goes a great way towards determining how our expressions are interpreted. To quote Karl Popper, It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood . Faulty or incomplete communication can completely mar the purpose of communicating and may result in damaging consequences. This is where understanding the importance of communication and communicating the right way comes into picture. Not everyone is equally endowed with the ability to effectively express himself and this is where the importance of communication skills can be truly fathomed. The importance of communication is equal in every walk of like, be it in personal, professional or social life. Components of Communication Communication is effective when a concise and clear message is delivered well, received successfully, and understood fully. • 8. The Naked Man of Steel by Angus Taylor Essay THE NAKED MAN OF STEEL In 2006, Angus Taylor, a South African sculptor, created a giant carbon steel statue of a naked black man (Froud, 2011). The artwork was named Positive (Fig 1). The origin and meaning behind this name will be revealed further on in the essay. The statue caused varied reactions in three different locations, namely on the campus of the University of Potchefstroom, in front of a Strand apartment block and finally a farm in the middle of the Karoo. There were some harsh reactions towards the artwork from sections of the White community and some of the Black community. These reactions led to issues regarding the right to freedom of expression from the artist and the public. Statues are generally erected and displayed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woestyn had no concerns as to how it would affect the public, but he realised that the moment it was erected, it caused a stir (Woestyn 2014). One of the complaints was the size of the artwork 2.6m high and weighing in at 750kg (Peters, 2006). Some of the criticisms were: It is disgusting. If the owner likes it so much he should put it in his lounge (Peters, 2006) Why must we Christians be subjected to this? (Peters, 2006) This is a conservative town and by tomorrow it will probably have underpants or a robe on it (Leppan, 2006) The latter comment proved to be an apt forecast, because a few days later it had a nappy tied around its genitals (Peters, 2006). Taylor said, The groin was modelled to the proportions of the David statue by Michelangelo which in proportion is relatively small (Taylor 2014). This quote suggests acceptance by the viewers of the David statue, yet the viewers of Positive are critical. After several complaints, Woestyn could no longer handle the protesting so he removed the statue (Woestyn 2014). An anonymous blogger on Heldeberg news and Info blog said: No longer will this statue torment our community, and innocent children will no longer be subjected to seeing the private parts of this very vulgar statue! (Leppan, 2006). Hence the negative reaction led towards the second removal of Positive . From this, one can deduce that many people are not comfortable with nudity. ... It speaks only to the nature of the cost accounting system that we, as students of accounting, think to be appropriate for addressing the issues presented by cases of this general type. We offer our views on this subject out of concern about the allocation of indirect costs used in assessing the appropriate gasoline cost value in State of Florida v. BuyGasCo Corporation, 2003 05143 (D. FL. 2003). We regard the allocation system employed in that opinion to be inconsistent with systems in common practice. Use of that system has a potential adverse effect on both the motor fuel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This system is often imprecise as it distributes costs on the basis of a single variable when there are typically several factors involved, particularly when there are multiple end products sold. To address this imprecision, we offer a refined costing system which reduces the use of generalized averages in the allocation of costs. In general, this is accomplished by first dividing the indirect costs into homogeneous pools so that we can more appropriately distribute them. Second, these cost pools are allocated on the basis of the driver of that cost segment which ensures that costs are more accurately tied to their source. Thus, a refined costing system is preferable as it ultimately delivers a more correct cause and effect relationship between costs and their sources. Although this system is preferable, it has some disadvantages. First, refined costing systems require more information about the nature of the costs involved, and often gathering this information results in additional costs for the firm. Second, even with a broad range of data available, some averaging and estimations are still necessary. So, without outside motivation, such as the MFMPA, small firms retain simple costing systems. As a sophomore, I knew that most of the passes were for guidance appointments or doctor s appointment. After the pass was handed to me, several thoughts ran through my mind. What is this pass for? Maybe this is just for an appointment I had completely forgotten about. Or could I be in trouble? My legs moved quickly down the stairs and through the main hallway, shuffling in between people to get to the main office. Knowing the distance between us existed was what made everything so hard. It was difficult for me to wrap my head around the fact that I wasn t able to just walk down the hallway or take a short drive to see my best friend. The shortest trip to see her would be by an airplane. I thought I would be able to talk to her all the time but this was not the case. When she had the opportunity to come home for breaks, our relationship remained constant. It s like we picked up where we left off when she left. • 11. Public Opinion of the Affordable Care Act Nearly two years ago the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into place by President Obama. This signature placed by President Obama has never rested especially well with the American public. As to be expected, the views on health care laws are colored by partisanship. Overall, the opinions towards the health car law have wavered slightly since the passing in March of 2010, and support has yet to reach favorable in 2014. Role of Public Opinion Even with the public being well aware of the elements of the health care law, particularly individual mandates, there is still a lack of understanding of it. According to Pinto (2013), 41 percent of Americans felt they had a good understanding of what the new law entailed, but even after two years and implementation the number has increased just six points to 47 percent. The purpose behind public opinion was to make more affordable health care insurance for uninsured citizens originally (Pinto, 2013). • 12. Charles Dickens Great Expectations Many people say that writing is nothing more than a way of the author to express himself. This is true in many cases but none as much as in Great Expectations. In many ways the narrator/protagonist Pip is Charles Dickens in body and mind. While there are many differences between the story and Charles Dickens life there remains one constant. This constant is the way Pip as the narrator feels, because these feelings are Dickens s own feelings about the life he lead. Since Great Expectations was written towards end of Charles Dickens life, he was wiser and able to make out the mistakes and regrets of his life, and Pip experiences them all. While Great Expectations is seen as a tragic book not many people really think about where these themes come from, and when the book is read with the knowledge of Dickens life it truly reveals new meanings. Charles John Huffam Dickens born February 7th, 1812, was born a poor man. When Charles Dickens was 12 his father John Dickens was sent to jail because he had too much debt. Since Charles father was sent to jail Charles had to drop out of school and join a shoe blacking company. When Charles no longer had to work he felt betrayed by his parents for making him do what was their rightful job, taking care of the family. He thought that the second he started working for that company his youth was gone. Once his father had received the family inheritance Charles was able to go to school again and his father was released from jail. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Structural Steel And Sustainability Of Construction Materials Structural Steel and Sustainability The sustainability of construction materials is a huge topic in today s world of engineering. Finding a way to improve the efficiency, costs, and environmental impact of construction is a key discussion topic. When it comes to structural steel being used today, our society is pushing towards the use of green steel. This term is used to represent the life cycle of steel as well as the production of structural steel. While most construction materials differ significantly from one another, structural steel is manufactured from recycled materials, but only at a limited number of locations. Another important aspect of green steel is the cradle to cradle process that it goes through. The cradle to cradle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over ninety percent of structural steel is able to be obtained from recycled materials; only two percent of steel goes into landfills after the use of its lifetime, while the other ninety eight percent is used again for other buildings and needs. One thing to keep in mind is that once the steel is recycled, it does not lose any of its attributes and is not considered to be down cycled. Structural steel is able to maintain all of it characteristics and can be used to build just about anything. Not only do buildings being constructed today have recycled steel from old structures, but they can also contain material from old vehicles and appliances. A very important component of recycling structural steel is mill production. The cradle to cradle nature of steel has caused an increase in efficiency and waste utilization of steel mills. The recycling process has improved so much over the years that we are even able to capture the dust that is produced in the process and in turn use it to our advantage. Mill production has become very efficient and will only improve as our electric grid improves. As the electric grids across the United States become more renewable, we will in turn be able to decrease the carbon footprint left behind by steel production. Since 1980, we have been able to produce the same amount of steel at almost twelve hours faster. Today we are able to produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Chemical Compounds Of Synthetic Fertilizer Once soil is intoxicated, the chemical compounds in synthetic fertilizer create a harmful environment for microbial life and are later dispersed to surrounding areas through the process of hydrology. In naturally fertile soil, microbial life is diverse and abundant. In fact, as soil microbiologist David Zuber has stated in his Soil Microbiology FAQ article, there can be hundreds of millions to billions of microbes in a single gram (about the size of a navy bean in volume) of soil. These microbes range from bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, cyanobacteria, protozoa, and microarthropods, all of which play very specialized roles in maintaining the integrity of soil. Innately, microbes ward off pathogens, provide root protection, and maintain oxygen and moisture levels. (Hermary). For example, microbes consume a naturally abundant and potent form of nitrogen (NH4+), along with other compounds, and excrete preferred forms of nitrogen (NO2 N and NO3 N). This process, fixation, allow microbes to maintain a fixed levels of essential chemicals. Likewise, through the process of denitrification, anaerobic bacteria provides oxygen to soil by removing excess nitrate (NO3 N), while other microbes aerate and disperse the supplied oxygen. While microbes execute an assortment of other tasks, it is apparent that these organisms create a balance. However, with the introduction of synthetic fertilizer, this natural balance is ravaged. In the First Meditation, Descartes had denied that materials things do not exist. After proving God s existence, Descartes accepts the strong possibility that material objects do exist, since now he is able to perceive things clearly and distinctly. Descartes presents us two arguments for the existence of material things, imagination, and the senses. The purpose of this essay is to provide a careful interpretation of the demonstration Descartes gives of the existence of materiality. First, Descartes distinguishes between imagination and understanding, The mind, when it understands, in a sense turns toward itself and looks at one of the ideas that are in it, whereas when it imagines, it turns towards the body, and intuits in the body something that conforms to the idea (93). Descartes does not deny that these perceptions may come from an outside source and that it is natural to believe that the senses give information about the physical world. Although he has learnt to mistrust nature he cannot altogether rule it out as a reliable source of the truth. Ah, that s the great puzzle.[1] This question, asked by Alice herself at the beginning of Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, anticipates the theme of identity and the reflection of mimesis in the literary nonsense and the author develops the subjects to the utmost and deepest experience in the two texts. In Wonderland and through the looking glass world language is not only the means of communication, the characters use it the same way as people use power; to gain superiority upon one another. As Daniel Whiting comments: The invention view seems to assume that whether an utterance has meaning and what meaning it has it entirely up to the speaker. [8] This can been seen especially in the character of Humpty Dumpty, who gives his own meanings to the words. Carroll is toying with the language and communication using its ambiguity and various references to confuse Alice. Moreover, the communication gains a new meaning, its role is no longer to transmit a message to the listener; it is transformed into meta communication. Most of the conversations in the two texts consist of talks on how to communicate, Alice being the one who communicates on a different level than the characters she encounters. As Gabriel Schwab puts it: As in a dream, language is both malleable and concrete; words are condensed, dialogues stripped of their pragmatic function, meanings are displaced metonymically, and references are suspended or transformed. [9] Having pointed out the fact that Alice is copiously being challenged by the language games with the characters, one observes another significant motif in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Similarities Between Medea And Legally Blonde The Murderess and the Fashionista Throughout literary history, there have been a majority of stories based on males and their adventures. But what about fictional works based on strong women? In Ancient Greece, Medea was focused on a leading woman who was driven and ambitious. A more modern film, Legally Blonde, shows a girl persistently going against the flow to make dreams come true. Today, I am going to show how the plot and personalities of Elle Wood from Legally Blonde and Medea are alike using their shameful break ups, revenge, friendships, obstacles, and how this makes them good heroes. What shame was brought about when Jason dumped Medea? To answer this, there are a few basic things that need to be understood about women in Ancient Greece. In this age, women were thought to be a man s servant: whether she serve for strictly sexual pleasure or to also raise his offspring, women were of little to no status without a man. While there exists many different theories about the exact function of sleep, it is scientifically proven that this phenomenon keeps the brain working efficiently. The body possesses many states of consciousness, both conscious and unconscious. Sleep is the ring leader of the unconscious mind, and makes sure the body runs healthy while we are blissfully unaware of our surroundings. Sleep has always been a behavior that integrates itself into everyday life. In fact, we spend about one third of our life sleeping. Often times people take sleep for granted, but it is essential in order to feel refreshed. While we are sleeping, the hypothalamus regulates body functions. (Swann, 2013). Seven to nine hours of sleep is necessary for the brain to restore. Sleep is an important factor because it affects one s health. The amount of sleep a person gets at night can affect their academic performance, number of accidents, amount of injuries, and an increase in the chance of obesity. (Noland et al, 2009). The passages of Matthew 6:19 through 6:34 exemplify Jesus teachings on living a life without lusting for material power, and pointing out the pointlessness of amassing worldly treasures. The Old Master, Lao Tzu was a figure similar to Jesus in both his style of teaching and his message of living a life for the divine, he would certainly find agreement in Jesus admonishment of desire. Descartes has convinced himself that there is nothing in the world; no sky, no earth, no minds, no bodies. The text reads, does that follow that I don t exist either? No, it does not follow; for if I convinced myself of something then I certainly existed. The Second Meditation Descartes first interpretation is, This is the one thing that can t be separated from me. I am, I exist that is certain.
