Mobile Mastery ebook - Nokia - #SmarterEverydayNokia
Mobile - being connected everywhere to everything and everyone - is the fact of modern life. It defines how we live, how we work, how we communicate and how the world runs. It is the tool we reach for first when we are faced with challenges big and small in our everyday lives.
But despite the rapid pace with which we’ve adopted it, we’re still learning the best and most effective ways to use mobile technology, how to make the most of the opportunities and how to avoid the pitfalls.
That is what mobile mastery is about – gaining the skills and knowledge we need to work with technology in a productive, efficient and beneficial way.

Teams That Flow ebook - Nokia #SmarterEverydayNokia
Flow is the psychological description of those really satisfying occasions
at work: you’re productive, engaged, confident and operating at your full potential. When a team is in flow, it’s innovative, harmonious and productive. Being part of it improves the performance of each member. Communication is purposeful and clear. Friction is seen as an opportunity, not a personal threat. Location and time zones pose no barriers. The balance is just right, and everything flows.
This book is a guide to building a team that flows. We’re going to begin with the theory, explaining the concepts and elements you need to create flow, before moving onto the practicalities of harnessing the power of collaboration,
working alongside technology, and leading a more productive working life within any team.

Unfinished Business Workshop: Working with user research dataSteve Portigal
In this workshop, Steve will show you how producers of "stuff" (products, services, and beyond) - can work with user research data to identify new businesses opportunities. One of the most persistent factors limiting the impact of user research in business is that projects often stop with a cataloging findings and implications rather than generating opportunities that directly enable the findings. As designers (in the broadest sense of the word) increasingly become involved in using contextual research to inform their design work, they may find themselves holding onto a trove of raw data but with little awareness of how to turn it into design.
The emphasis in this workshop (including an exercise in the days and weeks beforehand) will be on strengthening the creative link between "data" and "action." By the end, participants will have developed a range of high-level concepts that respond to a business problem and integrate a fresh, contextual understanding of that problem.
Presentation on thinking digital and 10 Think Digital ideas by Dave Briggs from WorkSmart. Presented at the Hot Topic event on Building Digital Capability in Bristol on 2 October 2014.
One of the most persistent factors limiting the impact of user research in business is that projects often stop with a catalog of findings and implications rather than generating opportunities that directly enable the findings. We’ve long heard the lament, “Well, we got this report, and it just sat there. We didn’t know what to do with it.”
Ongoing acceptance of (and demand for) user research has increased the ranks of practitioners of all stripes who feel comfortable conducting research. But analysis and synthesis is a more slippery skill set, and we see how easy it is for teams to ignore (more out of frustration than anything malicious) data that doesn’t immediately seem actionable. This session describes a process to take control over synthesis and ideation by breaking it down into a manageable framework.
In this session, you'll:
Learn how to move from data to insights to opportunities.
Get techniques for generating ideas and strategies across a broad scope of business and design concerns.
Explore how to prioritize findings and create new opportunities.

Digital Transformation: What it is and how to get there.
Authored by Econsultancy CEO Ashley Friedlein, this presentation on the topic of 'Digital Transformation', is broken down into six sections covering:
1. Digital Transformation - what it is and recent data and research on the topic
2. Strategy - what a digital strategy should include
3. Technology - the challenges of technology and the skills gap
4. People - looking at organisational structure, culture, roles & responsibilities, environment recquired
5. Process - how to address the speed, innovation and agility required
6. Business Transformation - how digital transformation is actually business transformation
This presentation aims to teach others how to use the user centered design methodology known as personas.
Personas are archetypes (models) that represent groups of real users who have similar behaviors, attitudes, and goals. A persona describes an archetypical user of software as it relates to the area of focus or domain you are designing for as a lens to highlight the relevant attitudes and the specific context associated with the area of work you are doing.

Matthew Connors (Cybercom Group): The Practice of XR Advancing XR Through a Teach-Learn-Do Cycle.
Those of us actively working in the fields of XR are aware of the interface and engineering paradigm shift that accompanies designing and building experiences for Augmented, Mixed and Virtual Reality. This talk will focus on the organizational and individual steps to take to create both the communication system and the necessary workflows and skillsets for these new paradigms, to invite students and professionals into the ranks of those building XR in tangential but supporting disciplines such as data science, robotics, and graphic design. Based on my work experience in both larger 20,000-plus employee corporations, and smaller firms - first in Mobile AR experience design, and later in Virtual and Mixed Reality applications and event interactives, I will discuss (aided by additional panel members with associated experiences from different perspectives; this talk can be either a stand-alone or panel discussion, but arguably stronger as a panel) methods of engagement for fostering understanding within and without organizations of the present reality of XR and mapping out expectations for the future possibilities of XR experiences.

The elements of product success for designers and developersNick Myers
All software, whether it's for consumers or workers, needs to meet the ever growing demands people have in today’s world. Greater user expectations and influence are forcing companies to create and deliver better products, but not every organization has a rich heritage in software creation like tech giants Apple and Google. Most companies need to be more customer-focused, become design specialists, and transform their cultures as they shift to become both software makers and innovators.
Myers, head of design services at Cooper, will share the elements of product success that companies need to possess and be market leaders: user insight, design, and organization. Myers will share principles and techniques that successful innovative companies use to truly understand their customers. He’ll also discuss the methods effective designers use to support their customers and create breakthrough ideas and delightful experiences. And he’ll finish by sharing the magic formula organizations need to deliver ground-breaking experiences to market.
This talk was given at UX Day.

The Future of Designing Collaboration Experiences #spsdetroitKanwal Khipple
Imagine a future where silo'd departments and legacy processes don’t stand in our way. Today’s collaboration needs go from complex collaboration portals to simple innovation hubs and most importantly need to work for our devices. Designing portals to enable a new kind of collaboration and communication is an absolute necessity today. For the past couple years, I’ve had the opportunity to study how successful teams collaborate and have helped to transform the way teams work and collaborate together. In this session, I'll share what I’ve learned about making effective cross-discipline collaboration possible, and leave you with actionable approaches you can use to unite your team's communication and collaboration needs.IN THIS SESSION YOU’LL HEAR: • Why cross-discipline collaboration is essential to future-ready digital design, and how you can play a key role in creating the cross-departmental teams to enable innovation • Real-life industry examples of what it takes to make effective collaboration possible • Practical techniques you can use to bridge silos, increase productivity, and deliver better outcomes for your teams
People can work together while living in different realities because everyone interprets the world in their own way. Assumptions, misunderstandings, information gaps, behavioural habits, biases – these often sit under the radar, affecting performance, motivation, and delivery. We call it ‘The Fog’, and it makes progress difficult, frustrating, and slow.
This session is all about team alignment for effective delivery.
Timothy Gallwey’s acclaimed The Inner Game teaches four parts to the learning process:
awareness of what is
focus of attention
own choice (regarding own decisions)
trust in self and team.
This transfers to the letter when it comes to developing the Agile Mindset and I specialize in helping teams with the first step. In this session, you'll learn about the research behind team alignment, you'll find out a structured team alignment process works, and you'll see results through a case study with Samsung.
We will workshop a few areas around 'perception differences' and I also offer a free Take the Team Test online tool to assess your team's behavioral and cognitive alignment. Anyone attending this session is invited to take the test in advance and share your experiences of it in this interactive session.

The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.
