By 1984 Rock and Roll music was going through a changing phase. From break
ups, tragic deaths due to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and
obnoxious solo performances, and overly loud and unnecessary amps that almost
sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It seemed that Rock
and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this
environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in.
This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious
band named Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of
director Rob Reiner as he interviews and follows the British band for their United
States concert tour for their new album, Smell My Glove . Throughout the film and
tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band. From drops in concert
attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery, sudden
changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them
back.
The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the

for five to eight minutes. Once the potatoes can easily be pierced with a fork, mash
them with the remaining butter and season with salt and pepper.
To assemble the dish, evenly spread the beef mixture in the bottom of a casserole
dish. Top with the potatoes and bake for 30 minutes at 400 degrees.

39. Analysis Of Taxi Driver
Written by Paul Schrader and directed by Martin Scorsese Taxi Driver is a movie
designed around a marine veteran, Travis, who becomes a taxi driver in New
York. He sets off to have a relationship like he sees all over town. However, Travis
is pretty bad about forming relationships even with coworkers which spill into a
relationship he tries to form and utterly fails. Besides being rejected he originally
seems like he is going down the wrong path, but the sequence of events changes and
he becomes a hero . Overall, this movie was created wonderfully and the amazing
acting performance from Robert De Niroas Travis really took this filmto another
level. The acting on top of the music and the background of the city throughout the
movie allows the viewer to feel like they are in the streets of New York with them.
One of the best scenes was when Travis went on a date with Betsy after taking her
to breakfast. For the date Travis decides to take her to an adult film playing at a
movie theater and she even says she doesn t like these types of movies. Travis
assures her the movie is good and during the movie Betsy leaves the theater telling
Travis how horrible it was. This is one of the first scenes that allow us to understand
something is not exactly right with Travis. This with the inability to sleep and being
a veteran leads the audience to believe he has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The
fact that Travis sees nothing wrong with the movie selection is a key part to
40. Abraham Stoker and Theater
Abraham (Bram) Stoker began his life bedridden, weak, and helpless. Stoker, third
of seven children, was born in Clontarf, a suburb of Dublin, on November 8, 1847
(Whitelaw 9). His parents were Abraham Stoker, from Dublin, and Charlotte
Mathilda Blake Thornley, who was raised in County Sligo ( Bram Stoker ). He
spent most of his early childhood laying in bed, watching his brothers and sisters
play outside through a dusty old window. As a child, he wondered if he would get
sicker if he would end up dying (Whitelaw 10). He could fully comprehend the
definition of misery by the age of ten. Stoker was considered lucky, given his
paralyzed condition, to have a mother who sat by his bedside telling his stories to
keep his mind off of his illness. He grew up fantasizing about vampires and fairies
in Irish tales. It is not very shocking to see that, because he grew up around misery,
he became so intrigued with dark literature. His mother built the foundation that
Stoker would later build his theatrical/literary empire on. His love for theater
introduced him to the literary world. Stoker s work and interest with theater is
what eventually led him to become so involved with Gothic Literature. He was not
fully capable of his writing abilities until after he enrolled in college. [Stoker]

41. Examples Of Nature Faker In The Call Of The Wild
Do you ever hear of nature fakers? A nature faker is a writer or author that gives
animals or living things, from the wild, human characteristics and personifies
them. In Jack London s novel, The Call of the Wild , he writes about a really tough
and confident dog who thrives in nature. For his writing in The Call of the Wild ,
many people accuse Jack London of being a nature faker. Jack London is a
magnificent and amazing writer who knows a lot about the wild, therefore he isn t
a nature faker. First, one reason that he is not a nature faker is because he gives the
animals more animal like characteristics than he does human like. One example of
this is when Buck and Spitz are constantly fighting and are always biting each other
s necks, which humans would never do. In the novel it states, Buck did not cry out.
He did not check himself but rove in upon Spitz, shoulder to shoulder so hard that he

Many authors exaggerate it by having animals work, have parties, and do extremely
impossible things. Jack London doesn t do that. One example is when Buck gets
tired after too much pulling with his owner, but he still pushes through like a wild
animal, and he thrives through it, he doesn t stop for some tea. One quote from the
novel is, the wound stiffened team was under way, struggling painfully over the
hardest part of the trail they had yet encountered, and for that matter, the hardest
between them and Dawson..., (London 17). This quote proves that they struggle just
like normal animals and are not exaggerated as much as others usually are. It does

Osteopathic medicine prides itself on being able to recognize the body s ability to

(DiGiovanna, Schiowitz, Dowling, 2005) Homeostasis can be referred to as the
maintenance of static or constant conditions in the internal environment. (Guyton
Hall, 2000) In conjunction with the Osteopathic principles, the osteopathic profession
aims to regulate the bodies natural function including the use of osteopathic
techniques to maintain the health and homeostasis of patients. This dynamic state of
equilibrium (Marieb, 2015) has narrow limits of which the internal and external
cellular fluids may fluctuate with the aim of maintaining an unchanged state.

Medical marijuana refers to the use of cannabis as medical therapy in the palliative
sense to treat diseases or alleviate symptoms. This treatment modality has proven to
be a highly debatable issue within the medical field due to the use of this substance as
an illicit drug. The National Youth Risk Behavior Survey monitors priority health risk
behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death, disability, and social
problems among youth and adults in the United States (Center for Disease Control
and Prevention, 2012). The most recent survey conducted on ninth through twelfth
grade students in public and private schools throughout the United States indicated
that in 2011, a mean of 39.9% of participants reported ever using marijuana one or
more times during their lives (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012).
Although this substance has been most often used for recreational purposes, recent
studies have shown that an increasing number of people are fighting to have
legislation passed in order for the use medicinal marijuana to be made legal. The
populations most affected by such legislation include those positively affected by the
use of medical marijuana, patients suffering from chronic and debilitating illnesses,
and those who utilize the drug for other reasons associated with recreation and
personal pleasure. The issue highlights the beneficial aspect of marijuana use

The way in which terrorists have gained publicity is very different. Late nineteenth
century Southern lynch mobs and Central American death squads did not even use
the media to gain their publicity. They just used their victims as examples to others
who might disobey their rules.9 As times changed, terrorists began to publicize their
views in books, pamphlets, underground newspapers, etc.
This technique allowed them to reach a bigger audience. It was mostly used by
terrorist groups during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Terrorist groups often

In Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang, the story bounces between the women s
personal life talking about losing her daughter to describing her work with aliens. I
think this story provided a weird but unique perspective on creativity. Throughout the
story, the author provides a clear description of what kind of person the main character
, Louise is. The main character is outlined as a creative and hardworking individual
not only as a mom but a doctor too. This story gives a unique example and outline of
creativity, because it is actually telling a story not just stating facts.
Throughout the story, she is constantly the person thinking outside of the box and
figuring out ways to communicate with the aliens. She also learning to respect them
and their language unlike the military officers in the story. While reading this story,
I noticed some trends that reminded me of another article we had read previously
in class. In one of our first classes, we read an article, Creative Personality that listed
ten qualities that a creative person displays. Louise displayed almost of these

Reading about Louise s work and her personal life really showed how passionate
she was about her life and job. She never gave up on the aliens or their language

Louie was a rebellious child who turned into something great, an Olympic athlete.
Later, he went into the war and fought for his country. During a rescue mission, his
plane crashed and almost everyone died except for Louie, Phil, and Mac. Louie and
Phil survived the raft and went into a POW camps. There Louie was being stripped
of his dignity and was being dehumanized, but still survived. Some characteristic of

When Louie and Phil first arrived at the first camp they went through many
beatings and pain. One of them was very bad, In the last, a full pint of fluid was
pumped into their veins. They were lucky to survive (143). This was when they

1,000 of people died from this and that they were lucky to survive. To survive that

Billy the Bully Introduction Early on a Saturday morning I was hurrying down the
street to buy a scone for my big sister at our neighborhood bakery. It was her
birthday and I wanted to do something special for her (besides the gifts we had
planned for her later in the day). It was a cloudy spring day and rain was predicted,
so I was moving pretty fast because I didn t have an umbrella. I bought the ginger
scone and on the way back home I looked across the street and saw a boy from my
class pushing another younger boy. It was Billy, who was big for his size, pushing
another kid and smacking him. I stopped for a moment to watch. How rude and
unfair, I thought to myself. Billy had always been a bit rude to me and I had seen
him bullying people on the playground but he never laid a hand on me. Just then
Billy looked over and saw me watching him push the little kid around and he yelled,
What are you looking at you little nerd? That was all I needed to hear to get going
back to our house. Raindrops started falling about halfway home so I began to run.

A lightbulb clicked and I decided to use Lifetime gym as my culture and a
dumbbell as my artifact. The next step of this project was to compare my culture
and artifact with another culture. The biggest obstacle I faced was having to be
creative and think about how other people and cultures may view the dumbbell. It
was difficult to pick just one certain group and try to hypothesis how they may
view the dumbbell. I chose to think of how people of low income and countries in
poverty may view the dumbbell. I hypothesized they most likely do not have
access to the dumbbell. Therefore, not knowing what it is, or having to use other
heavy objects as a substitute for a dumbbell. This project was very interesting and
eye opening. An object like a dumbbell, which I have very easy access to, is not
easily accessible for everyone.
Without this project, I would not have thought of a broader culture. It makes me
grateful to be able to have such easy access to a dumbbell, which others in
countries in poverty may not have the luxury of. I reached the goals of this
assignment. I was able to think of a specific artifact and describe it in specific detail.
I then thought of a few broader cultures and was able to compare a specific culture to
mine.

With the complex system where there were wide ranges of product which include
physical assets, it had reached the limits of accounting. The company had taken fully
advantage of this to make balance sheet become a perfect picture of company s
performance. They used mark to market method of accounting, which state that once
a long term contract was signed, the present value of the stream of future inflows
under the contract was recognized as revenues and the present value of the expected
cost of fulfilling the contract were expensed . (Pauls, 2003) Therefore, the future
profit had been account even the real cash flow had not come to the company yet.

evolved specializations such as bright coloration and large petals in order to entice

energetic output during flight (Gass Garrison 1999). Another adaptation that
hummingbirds have evolved to allow them to hover in midair is the rate at which

flight muscle adaptations such as a large keel and rigid weight bearing girdles which
allows for greater muscle attachment from wing to abdomen and in turn an increase
