Ethnographic Essay Example
Crafting an ethnographic essay can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a unique blend of
research, observation, and eloquent expression. The complexity arises from the need to immerse
oneself in a specific cultural context, gaining a deep understanding of the community being
studied. This involves spending considerable time conducting fieldwork, interacting with
individuals, and documenting their customs, beliefs, and social dynamics.
The difficulty lies not only in the meticulous data collection but also in the subsequent analysis
and interpretation of the gathered information. An ethnographic essay demands a keen eye for
detail, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to convey the essence of a community's identity
through the written word. The challenge is to balance objective observation with subjective
reflection, presenting a nuanced portrayal of the studied culture without imposing external biases.
Moreover, the writing process itself can be daunting. Crafting a compelling narrative that
engages the reader while maintaining academic rigor requires a high level of writing skill. The
essay should seamlessly integrate personal experiences, field notes, and theoretical frameworks
to provide a comprehensive and insightful exploration of the chosen cultural context.
In essence, writing an ethnographic essay is not just about presenting facts but about capturing
the essence of a community in a way that is both informative and captivating. It involves the
delicate art of storytelling while respecting the authenticity of the cultural narrative being
conveyed.

Relationship Between Caesar And Octavian
Octavian, the sole heir and successor of Julius Caesar overcame significant
impediments in his rise to becoming Rome s first emperor. Aged only nineteen at the
time of Caesars assassination in March 44BC Octavian s intelligence and fortitude
proved successful over the barriers of youth, inexperience and the political
opposition that he faced. Octavian went on to have one of the most famous political
careers of all time to defeat the Senate, Marc Antony, and gain sole control over the
Roman Empire.
Before Caesars assassination Caesar and Octavian had built a powerful relationship
that proved instrumental in Octavian s career. Octavian learned a great deal about
provincial administration, warfare and political manipulation while a part ... Show

Antony s actions after Caesars death solidified his expectations of inheriting power
as he moved to take control of Caesars assets, and publically read his will and he
thought himself to be the strongest contender to carry on Caesars political legacy.
To assert political power in the Roman Empire Octavian s first action was to gain
loyalty among the Roman people and build his reputation. In Illyricum at the time
of Caesars assassination he took with him a small group of friends that went to the
south of Italy to visit Caesars allies and clients. Whilst there he assessed the
position in Rome and the best course of action he could take to gain control. Once
in Rome he concentrated on commemorating Caesars death and seeking vengeance
against his assassins which was in contrast with Antony s views. Octavian then
began to build a relationship with the Roman mob, they were one of Caesars main
power bases and very influential in the Roman Empire. To build a positive
relationship he first paid the legacies that were left to the people of Rome by
Caesar. As the processing of Caesars will was held up and Antony refused to return
Caesars money Octavian pad the people out of his own pocket. This action gained
loyalty and began to pave the way for a constructive relationship between Octavian
and the Roman people.
The next action that Octavian took was to undermine his political opponents, he
wanted to achieve a high political position in Rome and eliminate Marc Antony. To do
Essay on A Century of Physics
A Century of Physics
By the end of the nineteenth century after more than two thousand years of
intellectual struggle that began with the Greek philosophers, physical scientists had
reason to believe that they were beginning to understand the universe. Their theories
of matter and energy, of electricity and magnetism, of heat and sound and light were
confirmed in laboratories throughout the world with increasing precision.
Experimentation was the method and mathematics the language of a powerful
coherent body of knowledge called classical physics. For a few years before and after
the turn of the century, the world was taking a breather from war and rebellion. The
monumental achievements of science, technology, and industry ... Show more content

The chance discovery of radioactivity finally signaled the beginning of a new era in
physics. As the element polonium, identified by Polish born Marie Curie in 1898,
emits radiation it changes spontaneously into lead. This discovery shattered the belief
inherited from the Greeks that the elements are immutable and their atoms
indestructible.
What causes atoms to decay?
What are they made of?
What forces are at work inside them?
Such questions were new to physics, and were to remain at its cutting edge
throughout the twentieth century. The answers would affect our lives in ways no
one could imagine in the year of 1900.
The twentieth century began with a flurry of innovations such as the airplane, the
mass produced automobile, and transatlantic radio communication. They transformed
the world, but the changes sweeping over physics at the same time were far more
radical. Those brought about not just different lifestyles, but new ways of thinking.
Modern physics grew out of classical physics and rest of three pillars: the quantum
theory, which describes atoms and their nuclei, Special Relativity, which deals with
the relationship between space and time and General Relativity, which explains
gravity. The latter two were the sole creations of Albert Einstein and even the former
received a crucial

The Earth s 4.6 Billion Years Of Existence
Throughout the Earth s 4.6 billion years of existence, there have been multiple
events that mark geographical changes as well as biological changes. Each
massive event, (such as a mass extinction) marks the beginning of an eon. An
example of an eon is the Hadean eon and the Archean eon. Next are eras, which
represents smaller events such as the Paleozoic era. Next are periods which are even
smaller such as the Cambrian period. Finally the epochs are the smallest time
classifications which subdivide a period such as the Oligocene epoch.
The Archean eon (the second eon chronologically) spanned from 4 to 2.5 billion
years ago, and is known as ancient life (The Hadean Eon) Also, the eon is
subdivided up into four separate eras: Eoarchean, ... Show more content on

This is what caused a completely iron core and a mantle full of silicate material.
(Stanley 255). The atmosphere was mostly built on hydrogen and helium (Lutgens
and Tarbuck). It was at this time that the earthbegan to separate into its know known
layers: the crust, the mantle, and the core (Lutgens and Tarbuck).
After several millions of years, the atmosphere started to cool down and provided the
production of the first continental crust (Lutgens and Tarbuck). This event took place
about 3.96 billion years ago, and the cooling down of the atmosphere marks the
beginning of the Eoarchean era (Lutgens and Tarbuck). During this timeline, island
arcs started to form, and after a long period of time these islands collided with each
other because of subduction (Lutgens and Tarbuck). Due to these collisions, the
smaller islands became larger land masses and later became the foundations for a
continent (Lutgens and Tarbuck).
Another aspect of the Archean Eon that is important was the formation of Earth s
atmosphere and oceans (Lutgens and Tarbuck). Earth s oceans formed from volcanic
discharges of water vapor (Lutgens and Tarbuck). Due to the cooling of the Earth, the
water vapor condensed at the surface and then formed into liquid water (Lutgens and
Tarbuck). The salts that are found in the seawater today are from eroded sediments

Feeling that some of her meanings are understood by me, then she can more

Randy spent a great deal of time in skilled nursing facilities, rehab centers, and
hospitals with his father and step mother before they passed on. As a result, he was
exposed to many individuals with mobility issues due to slips, falls, broken hips,

Reactions to the Boston Marathon Bombing Essay
One of the major reactions to the Boston marathon bombing occurred on the internet.
Social media was especially rife with speculation over who the bombers were and
why they committed those acts. One of the greater spectres that has loomed over the
social media landscape in the past few years is the group called Anonymous. While
the social media reaction to the Boston bombings might be unrelated to Anonymous,
and instead constitute a spontaneous reaction to the event, it might still be useful to
look at this group of internetusers as a model for how social media participants might
behave. Anonymous is known for being a loose association of unidentified
individuals who use internet technology to carry out hacks on the web in the name...

As Coleman (2012) notes, Anonymous has used more recent means of
communication, like Twitter, to announce their activities (#Botnetsforjustice section,
para. 2). However, as Serracino Inglott (2013) writes, Anonymous also uses several
older technologies to distribute materials and communicate with one another. A real
time chat protocol, called Internet Relay Chat, or IRC, is often used to create chat
rooms to discuss and organize activities. Anonymous members also often use a site
called Pastebin. While traditionally used to post snippets of code, Anonymous uses
Pastebin to announce operations, because the monospace font gives their
announcements a hacker aesthetic. Finally, the BitTorrent peer to peer file sharing
protocol is used for sharing any kind of larger files that Anonymous wishes to
distribute (p. 226 227). Anonymous has several preferred methods of attacking
sites, organizations, and individuals they disagree with, both on the internet and in
real life. According to Serracino Inglott (2013), one of the favored methods is a
distributed denial of service attack, or DDoS for short. A DDoS involves using
several computers to simultaneously access a site. This causes the server to become
overloaded with requests to access the site, and prevents legitimate visitors from
using the site that is under a DDoS. Anonymous even has a special program called
the Low Orbit Ion Cannon, which allows for people of minimal technical expertise to

Mens Re An Actus Reus
Mens rea is a necessary element, alongside an actus reus, in order for a person to
be convicted in the majority of crimes. It is required to prove the mens rea in every
common law and statutory offence making it a significant part of any case which
enters the courtroom. There are two common forms of mens rea; intention, wicked
recklessness and negligence. Both of these forms, if proven, constitute as a
sufficient mens rea to be criminally liable. Intention The highest form of mens rea
is more than simple contemplation and is when one person purposely causes harm
to another individual. The case of Cunliffe v. Goodman involved a landlord who
was intending to pull down a building on the termination of the lease. At the end of
the lease, the premises was in bad repair and the landlord requested action to be
taken on the tenant for the damage. However, the tenant was under the impression
that the building was being demolished and refused to pay for any disrepair. It was
found that the tenant was protected from liability to pay damages . Wicked
recklessness the total indifference to and disregard for the safety of the public In the
case of McDowall v. HM Advocate, a man was charged with culpable homicide for
driving recklessly. The presiding judge stated that the man had utter disregard for the
victims and the fact that he drove with the bonnet in an upright position are factors
that the jury were entitled to take into account when considering his state of mind at
My Love Story
I loved Bob with all my heart, or as much as you could love someone in 1252 in
England as a female. I have told you about Bob before, haven t I? He knew
everything about me from my favorite color to my deepest secrets. We did
everything together, too; we went to the pond together, we went to the market
together, we even ate together. We always exchanged I love you whenever we saw
each other, and everyone thought we would eventually get married. He cared
about me, and I cared about him. We were the perfect love story. Of course, all
perfect stories must come to an end. It was a warm autumn day. The sun was
shining, the leaves on the trees were brilliant reds, oranges, and golds, and
everyone was out taking care of business on our measly dirt road. Bob and I had
spent the day cleaning his home and taking care of his younger sisters, so we were
both burning up. As we left his house, I had a brilliant idea. Bob darling, let us go
to the pond. We can cool off there! The pond was a beautiful, tranquil place. The
only sounds that could be heard were the breeze rustling the weeping willows
beside the pond and the birds chirping in the willows. The pale, calm blue of the
pond had helped me fall asleep a number of times. It was a wonderful place to cool
off and swim, too. Bob however, instead of getting excited as he had on multiple
occasions at any mention of the pond jumped away from me, guilt written on his
face. I can t, I...I... Bob? Are you alright? I asked, concerned. Of course. I just can t
come to the pond today, he responded, his composure regained. I...uh...I have other
plans. I m sorry. Oh. Alright then. It s okay. He smiled at me, and I smiled back,
although it was a little forced. Then, he turned around and disappeared into the
bustle of the market. As I watched him walk away, my smile faded. What was
wrong with him? Or is it me? He always hung out with me, even if he had previous
arrangements. This continued for days; I would want to do something together, but
Bob would have other engagements. Soon, we were doing nothing. I quickly grew
suspicious. What could he possibly be doing? Eventually, I decided to follow him to
his other engagements . It was a
Social Darwinism Flaws
The Big Mistake: How Darwinism s Inadequacy Has Affected Society Since the
publishing of the iconic On The Origin of Species in 1859, Darwinian theory has
held precedence not only in science, but in education and everyday life. Creationism

With staunch belief in Social Darwinism and survival of the fittest , millions died at

Reaction Paper On The Perfect Storm
Sebastian Junger began to write The Perfect Storm without even knowing it (Junger
XIV). His personal experience with the storm was ...standing on Gloucester s Back
Shore watching thirty foot swells advance on Cape Ann... (Junger XIV). The next
day, Junger read an article in the newspaper about a Gloucester boat (The Andrea Gail
) that was believed to be lost at sea. He saved a clipping of that article and from then
on, Junger began unknowingly writing the book. Junger witnessed this destructive
storm in action. He also watched the 30 foot swells crash on the Gloucester shore.
These personal connections persuaded Junger to write The Perfect Storm. Also,
throughout the book, Junger states that fishermen do not get the respect they
deserve for their dangerous jobs. Upon further research, it was found that Sebastian
Junger used to work in a labor intensive job as well. He was a climber for a tree
company. After he was hurt on the job, Junger realized that dangerous work was not
written about a lot. As the terrible storm hit Gloucester and a fishing boat was lost at
sea, Sebastion decided he would shine light on another dangerous business, the open
seas fishing industry.
The subject of The Perfect Storm is the Andrea Gail and the storm that it was trapped
and eventually perished in. The subject is stated at the beginning of the book in the
Forward. Here, Junger describes his writing process, his inspiration, and the subject of
his book. Throughout the book, Junger

Basic details of the product:
Sodium bicarbonate, Sodium hydrogen carbonate or commonly referred to as
Baking Soda, is a chemical compound composed of sodium ions and bicarbonate

Background History:
In 1791 Nicholas Leblanc, a french chemist created soda ash, or commonly referred
to as sodium bicarbonate. The quest for the discovery commenced in 1775 when
The French Academy of Sciences offered a prize to the person who could create
sodium bicarbonate through the use of salt. Leblanc created soda ash through a 2
step process. The first consisted of mixing sodium chloride and concentrated sulfuric
acid and heating the 2 at the temperature of approximately 850В°C. This process
evolves the hydrogen chloride gas, leaving the substance as solid sodium sulfate. In
the second step, the sodium sulfate is crushed and is mixed with charcoal and
limestone; it is then heated in a furnace again, producing the final product of soda
ash. Soda ash can be created through the Solvay process (revised by Ernest Solvay as
a more efficient method) or from trona ore (refining soda ash from a natural deposit).
Green River, Wyoming currently possess enough sodium bicarbonate to meet the
entire world s needs for thousands of years as there is as the lake holds
approximately 200 billion ton deposit of pure trona ore between layers of sandstone
and shale. The only known technology required for the chemical discovery of sodium
bicarbonate is the furnace; which is used to heat up the mixture of sodium chloride
and concentrated sulfuric acid.
Personal Conduct In The NFL, National Football League
Not Me Personal conduct in the NFL, National Football League, is an issue that is
starting to spiral out of control. Late September, 2014, the league [had] suspended
at least 20 players for actions including assault, substance abuse and use of
performance enhancing drugs (White); this was only a few weeks into the regular
season of play for the league. The NFL has grown enormously since it was founded
on August 20, 1920 in Canton, Ohio. But, this league has become more and more
lenient with its playersand personnel. Many professional athletes in the NFL receive
special treatment regardless of their improper actions, thus allowing them to elude the
consequences and in turn setting a misleading example for their young fans. In order

The players and teams receive too much leeway when they are involved with crimes
or misconducts. They have a distorted view of themselves (White) which induces
them to overvalue their abilities and are proud and condescending when relating to

the players and teams that do not follow the NFL Personal Conduct Policy which the
league describes as avoiding conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public
confidence in the National Football League (ESPN). This is required to be accepted
by all workers in the NFL: players, general managers, coaches, owners, sideline

Discrimination And Racism In The United States
Discrimination and racism impacts everyone in the U.S. in some way, shape or form.
It can have harmful psychological impacts on those who are directly affected
especially if the situation becomes traumatizing. Several studies surrounding
discrimination have shown an increase in both physical and psychological problems.
According to two journals, those affected run the risk of developing depression, the
common cold, hypertension, breast cancer and cardiovascular disease, among other
things (Takeuchi, Williams, 2013). It is apparent to see that discrimination, racism,
social interaction and health, are persistently correlated with one another.

More studies confirm that individuals who are stressed out will likely use
cigarettes or alcoholic beverages to cope with the stress. This may result in
substance abuse and can continue escalating into more serious or dangerous
habits. This could also be, theoretically, why blacks are often attributed with drugs,
alcohol and illegal substances. Discrimination causes stress and those who are
affected will likely experience some sort of psychological effect. As I talked about
earlier, the film Crash raised the issue of how discrimination affected almost all
races except whites. Whites received the least discrimination and it is likely because
they are wealthier, more powerful and have different social identities and social roles
than the rest. Muslims in the film were discriminated because of terrorists who seem
to originate in Arabic countries. Blacks received discrimination because of all blacks

Benefits Of Equal Pay For Women
Over time there have been many discriminations against age, race, gender, religion,
and ethnicity. An ongoing struggle for women that are as equally qualified as men is
getting paid less. It is estimated that women are paid twenty percent less compared to
their male colleagues. Women have been trying to change these statistics for many
years. If women got paid the same as men, it could help benefit the economy, yet
females with more education lose money due to the genderpay gap. The biological
differences between men and women are inevitable, but there is no reason why a
womanshould be underpaid for the same amount or quality of work as a man.
There are a few factors as to why there is a gender pay gap today. This is because it

However, women do not have the option of just being a stay at home mom in this
day in time. Many families rely on a woman s income for more than just extra
money to be financially stable. The Americas Quarterly says, Despite increasing
labor force participation nearly 70 million additional women have entered the labor
force since 1980 economic outcomes in Latin America and the Caribbean continue
to favor men (Berger 77). This means that recently more women are joining the
workforce even though men still get higher wages. Families that are completely
maintained by women have increased over the past fifty years. Women need the
equal pay because often times their income is a necessity. One scenario is, single
mothers get paid less than single fathers and this makes it difficult for single mothers
to provide for their family.
Some companies and employs believe that women do not need equal pay, because
often times their hours will be different with them being a caregiver of the family.
Women who are mothers often times get paid less and is a big part of the pay gap.
Women also receive less from social security and in most cases they receive less

care of children. Even though women should not have paid family leave, or paid sick
days they should still get paid the same for the hours
The Death Penalty Is Not A Light Sentence
In the movie The Purge, America is bombarded with crime and over populated
correctional institutions; the government has endorsed a yearly 12 hour period in
which any criminal action including homicide gets to be legitimate. The police can t
be called. Help of any kind is suspended. It is one night when society attempts to
manage itself without laws. Would you live peacefully in a society that has to change
its laws to placate anarchist, murderers, and criminals? To live behind the façade of
a safe community, counting down the days till the Purge comes again. This is not a

Some of the reasons for being pro Capital Punishment include accountability,
consequences, level of crime versus the punishment, closure, and more humane
methods of execution.
There is legislation in place to maintain order and safety of the public. Without this
legislation there is a risk for anarchy, an uncivilized way of life where only the
strong survive and balance ceases to exist. Criminals should not go unpunished.
What message does that send to future offenders? If you commit a crime you
should be held accountable for your actions. Our society is structured with a
judicial system and law enforcement to apprehend and prosecute people who break
those laws. Individuals are raised with an understanding of right and wrong based
on familial culture and a parent s sense of morality. However, there is a higher code
of ethical principles based on the rights and responsibilities that are imposed by
society. As an adult we have the knowledge and foresight to understand the
ramifications of our actions. With the knowledge of morality we have an obligation
to make the correct choices or be subjected to the punishment based on those choices.

A Combination of Therapy Theories to Treat One Client
This paper presents Michael, a 55 year old divorced male who is receiving services
at the mental health clinic for depression, social phobia and his nicotine addiction.
Michael s physician convinced him to receive counseling and made the referral.
This paper will attempt to formulate three different approaches, which may be
appropriate for Michael s diagnoses. As well, this paper will provide a detailed
discussion of how each approach views the problem and how it leads to the treatment.
Additionally, a demonstration of how a therapist could use the approaches techniques

behavioral therapy (CBT), and cyclical psychodynamic. Each approach will take
place during different sessions.

The Federal Minister of Health Rona Ambrose has taken a positive step toward the
right direction by advising the federal standing committee on health to research into
the possible hazard and gain of e cigarettes ( The Canadian Press,2014) Due to the
health concern and potential hazard to adolescents the cities of York , Red Deer and
Toronto have restricted smoking of cigarettes in open places. This is a well come
development that Ottawa can draw from to take steps on controlling e cigarettes. No
doubt, there is an urgent need for the government to regulate the manufacture,
marketing and usage of e cigarettes because the manufacturers of e cigarettes will not
disclose the content of the cigarettes and canisters. No wonder Olivia Rose (2014)
concluded that other chemicals and the quantities included in e cigarettes apart from
carcinogen like formaldehyde are unknown. From the foregoing, it is pertinent that
the Canadian government regulate e cigerattes, because consumers don t know how
much nicotine or other chemicals exist in them, as well as the potential risk and
hazards associated with them.

4 Year Old Research Paper
Another response from an unknown person says I don t have teenagers yet, but
watching my 8 10 year olds spend endless amounts of time on iPads during Spring
break makes me worried about the day hopefully years from now when they have
their own devices. This situation is actually accurate for me. Since I have a 4 year
old niece, I can definitely relate to what he or she is saying because I try not to let
my niece stay on the tablet all day long like she wants too. From age differences,
the statistics of what tweens and teens do differ as they get older and depending
on what activity it is. From the ages of 12 14, I would consider them as tweens or
preteens. In those ages, 81% are interested in playing sports while 68% of 15 17
year olds are interested in sports. The older a person gets, the less they want to be
included in sports or exercise. But, that may not always be the case. As a person
get older, they don t always stop doing what they were doing when they were
younger or as a teenager. I know a couple of people who still do the things they
were doing as they were younger. When it comes to teens and tweens going to the
mall or movies, teens of 15 17, has the highest percentage of both. 52% goes spend
their time at the movies and 56% spend their leisure time at the mall. Certain
activities depends on the age groups and the percentage of how... Show more content

The Tragedy Of Joseph Lambert And His Men
Colonel Lambert and his men were feeling a bit train fever they had been cooped
up for days on the train. They had been moving slowly through northern Virginia
the tracks had been blocked, removed or even destroyed purposely. The only
reason people had blocked the tracks was because for some reason camps had built
up around them, perhaps because they were open areas that had already been
cleared. Maybe because it brought back memories of another time but people built
camps right over them. People were surprised to see the huge black behemoth in
same cases barreling down on them, one of the reasons they had slowed down a
bit. There was one instance where they had plowed through one camp in the middle
of the night, damn near killed everyone and those that survived needless to say
weren t happy, they kept moving. They also started to find pieces of track missing
no doubt people using it as building material or to melt it down for other reasons
unknown to the Colonel. For the time being it was ok they had replacement rails and
the men had been trained on how to replace them. They had been stopping and
rebuilding water towers and clearing stations. They had to continue to cut wood for
fuel, which in some cases caused confrontations with some locals who felt that they
were infringing on their resources. Once Colonel Lambert explained, generally at gun
point, that all of these resources belonged to the United States government. If they
had a problem with it they could

During the initial years of e commerce, many predicted that the internet would lead
to a frictionless economy with lower search costs and availability of better
information over the internet. Generally people feel that if a product is purchased

Several efforts have been made to standardize the way prices are display and online

According to this pricing policy the prices are set uniform across the world and the

such pricing policy is pricing does not respond to the market conditions of each
national market thus it does not help to maximize the company s
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Research Paper
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born in Vyatka, a town in Russia s Ural mountains,
on May 7th, 1840. He started taking piano lessons at age 5, although he had no

His parents ended up making him study law. While he was in law school, he studied

Persuasive Essay On Video Games
Video games are enjoyed by many around the globe because of the wide variety of
genres available on the market today. These genres range from single player role
playing games to multiplayer first person shooters. So, it begs the question Why
do people seem to enjoy slandering this industry and blame them for hatred, crime,
and anti social behaviour? The type of people that slander video games constantly
criticise this industry but have they taken the time to actually consider the benefits
of playing video games? Video games are making children aggressive and violent!
Said no intelligent person on this planet ever. There has been a debate for decades
on whether or not video games are the centre cause of aggressive behaviour in
children due to the amount of exposure to mature themes. There high doubts that
video games are the cause of hostility in kids and should be seen responsible. There
are millions of television shows that contain much more mature and inappropriate
content, yet no one bats an eye but all of a sudden when a virtual person shoots a
gun everyone goes ballistic! People always say computer games are a bad
influence but what pieces of evidence do they have that back up their claim? A
psychologist named Andy Przybylski from the University of Oxford concluded his
experiment and stated there was no solid proof that links violent video games with
aggressive behaviour 1. The hostility of a person can be caused by many things like

Fostering English Mastery within a Linguistically Diverse...
Linguistic diversity has become a divisive issue in the American political landscape.
As Wolfram points out, the politics of linguistics necessitates a knowledgeable
response rooted in research and pedagogical practice. When addressing the needs of a
linguistically diverse population, it becomes crucial to examine the ways that
educationis failing to help students acquire languagemastery and also failing to train
teachers properly in English language instruction. A prevailing research question is as
follows: what are the best ways to foster English mastery within a linguistically
diverse cultural landscape?
Research shows almost universally that linguistic diversity is a desirable scenario,
rather than a detriment to learning. Moreover, the goal of education is far from being
the creation of a homogeneous society. Education has many different goals, which
will differ according to the individual needs and desires of students. However,
students do need to learn how to thrive in an increasingly heterogeneous society.
Academic, social, psychosocial and financial success hinges not just on the mastery
of proper English but also on the mastery of cultural sensitivity.
A review of literature highlights some of the core issues at stake with regards to the
questions of how to best foster English mastery within a linguistically diverse society.
Wolfram advocates an examination of linguistic scholarship, referring to the myriad
of uninformed opinions that abound among

More Than Modest Proposal to Solve the Ever Growing Traffic Troubles
On average, an American commuter spends around 30 hours per week sitting in
traffic going to and from the job that they may or may not love. Commuters in some
cities like Washington DC, that is both near and dear to our hearts, can spend roughly
60 hours per week stuck in traffic. Not only is time wasted wasted while commuting,
but the gas that we constantly fill our cars up with may as well be flushed down the
drain. Following the gas that is going down this metaphorical drain here, is a
ridiculous amount of money from an innocent commuter s wallet. Additionally, time

Because there are no drivers of the pods, there is zero chance of any casualties
caused by drunk drivers, or by drivers who are texting or plugging information into
their GPS. These pods will eliminate any chance of pedestrians or animals getting hit
due to the sensitive sensors that will be placed in each pod. Though there are
alternate means of transportation such as carpools, buses, or simply walking, these
alternatives can be just as problematic as cars themselves. With carpools, we still run
the risk of drivers that are not paying full attention to the road because they are
paying more attention to the members of their carpool. Though with the intent of
conserving gas, carpools will still pollute our fresh air with the harsh chemicals
found in gas. Buses are more or less a large scale carpool. Buses may seem to
promote mass transportation of people, they are very costly because drivers must
be paid and money must be spent on gas. Not to mention that buses can be
extremely dirty, whereas the pods are self sanitized. Not only will the Pod System
immediately solve the present issue of traffic and the load of side effects that come
with it, the Pod System brings many more positive long term effects. For starters, the
reduced commute time now allows working Americans to spend more time with their
families and other loved ones. Also, these new electronic

This horrific event was named the St. Bartholomew s Day Massacre. Marguerite de

Navarre on August 18th. Marguerite and the rest of the Valois family were extremely
Catholic while Henry was a Huguenot (Calvinist Protestants). This marriage was an
attempt the break the religious tension and join together the religions in peace, or so
they thought. The wedding was held in Paris, France and many Huguenot nobility

According to Williamson and Josephs book Catherine de Medici Charles IX was

According to Knechts book The French wars of religion 1559 1598 the St

Huguenots rushed to his side in worry and fear. In fear that the Huguenots would

Character Analysis Of Jonas In The Giver By Lois Lowry
In the book, The Giver by Lois Lowry the dystopian protagonist is Jonas. He is a

is that he is brave. Jonas is brave because he took the job of the Receiver, even
though there would be immense pain, he took his brother Gabe to save him , and he
left the community to make it better.
In the beginning, Jonas is brave because he took the job of the receiver. As the
receiver he would be given memories of the town by the old receiver. This is a very
important job because no one else in the community has memories of past lifetimes.

He left the community because he could not stand to live with people who did not
have the emotions and feelings that he had. He also did it because if he left the
community the memories would go to the people of the community. Jonas thought
that this would make their lives so much better. Jonas was really brave at this time
because he left the community where everything was always fine and they were
never hungry to go to Elsewhere where nothing was for sure there. He could die of
anything. Jonas thought, Together the fugitives slept through their first dangerous
day. This quote shows that not only did they have to worry about running out of
food or water in Elsewhere. He had to brave getting caught by search crews or
planes, unless he would be condemned. Just as important Jonas was brave to leave
his friends behind. He felt such a love for Asher and Fiona. This quote shows that he
really loves his friends and it was extremely brave for him to leave them behind.
Perhaps he did it because he thought that it would be better for him to leave his
friends and the community, and maybe die, for the betterment of the

Anglo Saxon Legal System
The two sources provide valuable perspectives into the legal system within the
anglo saxon period. The Anglo Saxon legal system was based around the King who
was the secular and spiritual leader of the country. The King first had to centralise
his power and become the most influential person to then delegate to others in his
kingdom; resulting in the creation of the earls, who ruled over their individual
earldoms and carried out the King s orders given to them through writs, enforcing
justice and order. There were around 40 shires (counties) in Anglo Saxon England,

We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation
Abstract Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with
its ability providing the most up to date and newsworthy information. Considering
wide use of twitter as the source of information, reaching an interesting tweet for user
among a bunch of tweets is challenging. A huge amount of tweets sent per day by
hundred millions of users, information overload is inevitable. For extracting
information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity Recognition (NER), methods on
formal texts. However, many applications in Information Retrieval (IR) and Natural
Language Processing(NLP) suffer severely from the noisy and short nature of
tweets. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a
batch mode, called HybridSeg by splitting tweets into meaningful segments, the
semantic or context information is well preserved and easily extracted by the
downstream applications. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by
maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The
stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English
(i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the
batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two
models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term
dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to
iteratively learn from confident segments as pseudo
Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Analysis
A question that is often asked is who as it worse, males or females this question has
been asked since the beginning of human life. In the book Incidents in the life of a
slave girl it goes through the life of an enslaved woman and how her life was set
since at birth. She goes through the struggles of not only her but the people around
her. Life was hard and horrible for all enslaved people, but it is often asked, like the
original question, who had it worse enslaved males or enslaved females. As a
female I may sound somewhat bias in my writing but will stay with the facts within
the one book I have read to answer the question I believe that over all females had it
the hardest. Enslaved females would be separated from their kids often.

just because they know and understand the despair and ruefulness of their little
family theater. One more theme is relationships between parents and children. And
one more time we see the worm: the mother who loves one child more than the other
one, the mother who is jealous of her own daughter. And that of course cannot but
contributes to Rachel s and Tom s future lives. Having condemned her own life,
Helen does the same about their children s ones. Speaking about the language, it
contributes to the whole effect of the story. It opens with the sentence that sounds
like a contradiction the Crutchmans are so happy that everyone necessarily believed
that they are not. It is impossible not to notice the irony of Cheever they are so so
so very happy. This usage of numerous adjectives makes the story emotional and
intense. Cheever creates the increase of tension by long sentences (he was at the
communion rail, the fifty yard line). Many of them are 4 5 lines. But for slatting the
problem the author uses simple short rhetorical questions. There aren t many
stylistics devices in the text and the title of the story is maybe, the main

Strep Throat
Strep throat is a caused by streptococcus that take over the cells in the throat. It affects
the immune system. The immune system is a system that fights back pathogens. If
germs infect the immune system, it can cause you to get sick. The immune response
controls the immune system. (Human Biology and Health 148). The cells of the
immune systemcan choose between different kinds of pathogens. The immune system
cells react to each kind of pathogen with a defense targeted specifically at those
pathogens. (Human Biology and Health 148). The white bloodcells that choose
between different kinds of pathogens are called lymphocytes. There are two big
kinds of lymphocytes, T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes, otherwise known as B
cells and T cells that work together to destroy pathogens such as flu viruses. (Human

Commonly referred to as strep bacteria. (Streptococci and streptococcal Infections).
Streptococci are normal bacterial residents on the skin and mucous surfaces outside
or inside humans. Streptococcus contains a variety of species some of which cause
disease in humans and other animals.
A strep bacteria can cause rheumatic fever, impetigo, scarlet fever, werperal fever,
streptococcal toxic syndrome, tonsillitis, and of course strep throat. Group B
Streptococcus can cause infections in the bladder. In the U.S. around 12,000
newborn babies will be infected each year. Group B strep can cause blood infection,
pneumonia, and meningitis in babies.
If strep is untreated, streptococcal infections could lead to troubles. Some troubles
result from spreads of the infection to nearby tissue. For example, an ear infection
may spread to the sinuses, causing a sinus infection. Or to the mastoid bone which is
the bone behind the ear. Other troubles involve organs. For example, some people
develop kidney inflammation or rheumatic
The Effect Of Music On Music
As you re planning for the reception that will follow the most special day of your life,
you re going to need to make a choice on the music. You can either hire a band to
play live at your event, or employ a DJ to MC the festivities. Here are [] benefits
explaining why you should consider using a DJ to spin your weddingtunes.
Convenience Factor
Setting up a live band and their sound system is a complex ordeal. There is usually
some type of stage assembly, plus you re going to need to fill the time gaps when a
band needs a break. When you elect to have live music for your wedding reception,
you actually have to account for these break periods. This means you re going to
have to think about two ways to keep the music flowing.

They may know how to play dozens of songs very well, but you will be restricted to
a set number of choices. Hiring a DJ essentially gives you an endless number of
songs, not to mention limitless types of music genre.
DJs, especially those who use modern digital technology, come armed with literally
thousands of song choices. There will not be a genre of music requested where they
cannot supply hundreds of artists and innumerous song titles. When you opt for a DJ
over a live band, you add artist variety and song diversity to enthuse all your guests.
Songs Sound Familiar
As hard as a live band tries, rarely are they talented enough to duplicate their
selection of music perfectly. Sometimes dancers will have a hard time telling what
song they re actually playing. DJs spin the music by the original artist, so your
reception guest will get to hear their favorite tunes rendered perfectly.
No improvisation, no sound covers, just the genuine song at the correct rhythm and
beat. You want your guests to enjoy dancing to all the songs, not just the select few
that sound good. Your DJ will not only bring and immense variety of musical
selections, they will sound just like they re intended to sound.
Resolving the music question for your wedding reception is an important part of
planning for your special day. Trying to coordinate with a live act to play the music
can be an involved and costly process. Why not just hand over this significant part of
your reception to
Multiple Decisions In The Garden Of Forking Path
The possibility of having multiple decisions occur at once is displayed in a short
story written in 1941 called The Garden of Forking Paths . This concept makes the
short story seem more like a giant puzzle that always has a missing piece. With the
outer edges solved creating a frame narrative with the theme of timewhich the author
wrote to confuse the reader. Said by Mr. Dewey, if you read this story and
understand it then you didn t read the story properly. Meaning you didn t dive deep
enough into the reading, just read around the edges, the frame, and didn t come
close to or reach the core of the short story. You can compare the format of the story
to a magic trick where the author is the magician. The magic trick the reader is
presented with is how can multiple decisions occur at once.... Show more content on

when the main character Yu Tsun compared his childhood as a damp path zigzagged

because it didn t seem to fit in with what Albert and Yu Tsun were talking about.
Furthermore, Yu Tsun s childhood is never mentioned in the story, only in this one
line. Another part in the story I found intriguing was when Yu Tsun and Albert were
discussing the Ts ui Pen labyrinth and how the labyrinth was the entire world plus

Differences Between Culture, Race, And Class

highlight the effects that culture, race, and class have on human s behaviors,

makes this comparison even more compelling? With worlds so distant, one might

According to the text Understanding Human Differences by Koppelman stated For
every talent that poverty has stimulated it has blighted a hundred (p. 264).
Secondly, the difference that was recognizable was the religious aspect. Even
though Claudio was raised a Roman Catholic and I an Anglican, we both believe in
the same God. Our views on heaven and hell totally differ relating to religious
beliefs. From my perspective I, believe in heaven and a hell. Coupled with, being
accountable to someone when you depart this world. As the saying goes, everyone
was put on this earth for a reason and we as individuals should achieve and
accomplished the purpose we were meant to achieve. If for some reason, we did not
achieve our purpose while we were on earth, then there should be consequences for
our actions or missteps when our souls depart this earth. Claudio on the other hand,
whose early years were deeply engrossed in becoming a priest, has drawn a
connection from his own life experience. For instance, he seems to come to the
conclusion that there is a heaven, but not a hell. He also elaborated that the
persecution that humans endure during their lifetime on earth is the hell we

The Influence Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The names of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are familiar to everyone s inner
child: Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, and Leonardo. However, the actual people
after whom the ninjas are named were resplendent artists of the fifteenth and
sixteenth centuries, and each of these men had a profound effect on the trajectory of
art. During the Renaissance(late 1400s 1600s), an era of society emerging towards a
new way of considering the world through artistic study, the marvelous coalition of
citizens that is the public was propelled out of the philosophical oppression of the
Middle Ages. Moreover, this served as a pivotal time not only for traditional art, but
for free and open thought in general. Because of the Renaissance s lasting influences
and the grandeur of change it commenced, it will remain embedded in history for so
long as the human race continues to exist. In this period of transcendence, Greco
Roman culture and philosophy saw its return, the Catholic Church suffered a decline,
art revolutionized itself, and academia returned to antiquity.
In the Proto Renaissance, requisite events took place that laid the foundation for art
to change in the most existential way. According to The Encyclopedia of Art
History, In fine art, the term Proto Renaissance refers to the pre Renaissance period
(c.1300 1400) in Italy, and the activities of progressive painters such as Giotto(1267
1337), who pioneered the new form of figurative realism , which was fully developed

How Did Michelangelo Di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni was born in 1475 and he lived till
eighty nine years old in 1564. He is a sculptor, painter and architect, although he
expressed his artistry in many media, but he would always consider himself a
sculptor first. [1] Michelangelo s mother died when he was six, despite his father
initially didn t support his interest in art, yet when Michelangelowas thirteen, he sent
him to learn from painter Domenico Ghirlandaio. His talent was discovered by
Lorenzo de Medici, who invited Michelangelo to Humanist academy, and in there
he was inspired by the scholars and writers in Lorenzo s intellectual circle. [2] In
there, he was greatly influenced by palatial artworks and formed neo platonic
philosophic ideal. However, in 1494 Michelangelo was banished from Florenceand...

[3] Despite that he created numerous masterpieces, his works demonstrated high level
of skills and innovative content. His style that formed in Florence was exposed to
Classical art and humanist thought. For instance, the paintings on the ceiling of the
Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo painted the scenes in reverse chronological order,
and the complexity of figures presents a relaxed and relived mood. Besides, he
emphasized the power inherited in the human body, especially torso. David is a
example in this case, it represented a state of relaxation and tension, and its
proportion is corresponded more to Hellenistic style than Classical Style. His
muscular figures are rendered in exaggerated contrapposto, which are one of the
most monumental images in Western art. [4] On the other hand, Michelangelo s late
style revealed the pressure of patronage on artists during the renaissance. His anxiety
about completing the sculptures is revealed in his work of sculptures and paintings.
Many scholars consider his late style as a mark of the close of renaissance and as
part of new Mannerist development.

When there are no real techniques of how this data is used because all citizens are

or dispute the policies of the government. Why the government collects data is in
order to find any disapproval and arrests people because they think differently than
the leadership of our government. Data obtained through conscientiously suspicious
means have already been used to tarnish rivals of the current president, and it is not
unlikely to see rivals of the current wars to be affected as well. It would take a
magnificent nitwit to put mindless confidence in a government agency like the
National Security Agency. Few would deny the importance of deploying surveillance
technologies to watch out for risks of theft, fraud,
Corrective Action for Disrespecting Higher Ranking...
This essay is on tact, professionalism, respect and disrespect, as part of my
corrective action for disrespecting higher ranking military personal. I will start this
essay off with defining each of the subjects so that the reader may have a full
understanding on what each mean. Tact is the first subject on which I am suppose
to include in this essay, tact is defined as a keen sense of what to say or do to avoid
giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations. The second
definition needed for this essay is on professionalism; professionalism is defined as
professional character, spirit, or methods. Given that there are three main points to
that definition, character is the key phrase to take from that definition for it pertains
more to this essay then spirit or methods. The third definition needed is on respect,
and the most suited definition for respect as it pertains to this essay is, deference to
a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have
certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment. With the
definition of respect given, the last and most important definition is disrespect.
Disrespect is defined as to regard or treat without respect; regard or treat with
contempt or rudeness. Tact in my opinion is the way you handle yourself in situations
that you do not agree with or support. In the military you will face many situations
that you may not understand or agree with and the

Ethnographic Essay Example

  • 1. Ethnographic Essay Example Crafting an ethnographic essay can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a unique blend of research, observation, and eloquent expression. The complexity arises from the need to immerse oneself in a specific cultural context, gaining a deep understanding of the community being studied. This involves spending considerable time conducting fieldwork, interacting with individuals, and documenting their customs, beliefs, and social dynamics. The difficulty lies not only in the meticulous data collection but also in the subsequent analysis and interpretation of the gathered information. An ethnographic essay demands a keen eye for detail, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to convey the essence of a community's identity through the written word. The challenge is to balance objective observation with subjective reflection, presenting a nuanced portrayal of the studied culture without imposing external biases. Moreover, the writing process itself can be daunting. Crafting a compelling narrative that engages the reader while maintaining academic rigor requires a high level of writing skill. The essay should seamlessly integrate personal experiences, field notes, and theoretical frameworks to provide a comprehensive and insightful exploration of the chosen cultural context. In essence, writing an ethnographic essay is not just about presenting facts but about capturing the essence of a community in a way that is both informative and captivating. It involves the delicate art of storytelling while respecting the authenticity of the cultural narrative being conveyed. If the task seems overwhelming or time-consuming, it's worth considering seeking assistance. Platforms like HelpWriting.net offer support for various academic writing tasks, ensuring that students and researchers can access professionally crafted essays tailored to their specific needs. Aged only nineteen at the time of Caesars assassination in March 44BC Octavian s intelligence and fortitude proved successful over the barriers of youth, inexperience and the political opposition that he faced. Octavian went on to have one of the most famous political careers of all time to defeat the Senate, Marc Antony, and gain sole control over the Roman Empire. Before Caesars assassination Caesar and Octavian had built a powerful relationship that proved instrumental in Octavian s career. Antony s actions after Caesars death solidified his expectations of inheriting power as he moved to take control of Caesars assets, and publically read his will and he thought himself to be the strongest contender to carry on Caesars political legacy. To assert political power in the Roman Empire Octavian s first action was to gain loyalty among the Roman people and build his reputation. In Illyricum at the time of Caesars assassination he took with him a small group of friends that went to the south of Italy to visit Caesars allies and clients. Whilst there he assessed the position in Rome and the best course of action he could take to gain control. Once in Rome he concentrated on commemorating Caesars death and seeking vengeance against his assassins which was in contrast with Antony s views. Octavian then began to build a relationship with the Roman mob, they were one of Caesars main power bases and very influential in the Roman Empire. To build a positive relationship he first paid the legacies that were left to the people of Rome by Caesar. As the processing of Caesars will was held up and Antony refused to return Caesars money Octavian pad the people out of his own pocket. This action gained loyalty and began to pave the way for a constructive relationship between Octavian and the Roman people. The next action that Octavian took was to undermine his political opponents, he wanted to achieve a high political position in Rome and eliminate Marc Antony. To do
  • 3. Essay on A Century of Physics A Century of Physics By the end of the nineteenth century after more than two thousand years of intellectual struggle that began with the Greek philosophers, physical scientists had reason to believe that they were beginning to understand the universe. Their theories of matter and energy, of electricity and magnetism, of heat and sound and light were confirmed in laboratories throughout the world with increasing precision. Experimentation was the method and mathematics the language of a powerful coherent body of knowledge called classical physics. For a few years before and after the turn of the century, the world was taking a breather from war and rebellion. The monumental achievements of science, technology, and industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chance discovery of radioactivity finally signaled the beginning of a new era in physics. As the element polonium, identified by Polish born Marie Curie in 1898, emits radiation it changes spontaneously into lead. This discovery shattered the belief inherited from the Greeks that the elements are immutable and their atoms indestructible. What causes atoms to decay? What are they made of? What forces are at work inside them? Such questions were new to physics, and were to remain at its cutting edge throughout the twentieth century. The answers would affect our lives in ways no one could imagine in the year of 1900. The twentieth century began with a flurry of innovations such as the airplane, the mass produced automobile, and transatlantic radio communication. They transformed the world, but the changes sweeping over physics at the same time were far more radical. Those brought about not just different lifestyles, but new ways of thinking. Modern physics grew out of classical physics and rest of three pillars: the quantum theory, which describes atoms and their nuclei, Special Relativity, which deals with the relationship between space and time and General Relativity, which explains gravity. The latter two were the sole creations of Albert Einstein and even the former received a crucial

Each massive event, (such as a mass extinction) marks the beginning of an eon. An example of an eon is the Hadean eon and the Archean eon. Next are eras, which represents smaller events such as the Paleozoic era. Next are periods which are even smaller such as the Cambrian period. Finally the epochs are the smallest time classifications which subdivide a period such as the Oligocene epoch. The Archean eon (the second eon chronologically) spanned from 4 to 2.5 billion years ago, and is known as ancient life (The Hadean Eon) Also, the eon is subdivided up into four separate eras: Eoarchean, ... It was at this time that the earthbegan to separate into its know known layers: the crust, the mantle, and the core (Lutgens and Tarbuck). After several millions of years, the atmosphere started to cool down and provided the production of the first continental crust (Lutgens and Tarbuck). This event took place about 3.96 billion years ago, and the cooling down of the atmosphere marks the beginning of the Eoarchean era (Lutgens and Tarbuck). During this timeline, island arcs started to form, and after a long period of time these islands collided with each other because of subduction (Lutgens and Tarbuck). Due to these collisions, the smaller islands became larger land masses and later became the foundations for a continent (Lutgens and Tarbuck). Another aspect of the Archean Eon that is important was the formation of Earth s atmosphere and oceans (Lutgens and Tarbuck). Earth s oceans formed from volcanic discharges of water vapor (Lutgens and Tarbuck). Due to the cooling of the Earth, the water vapor condensed at the surface and then formed into liquid water (Lutgens and Tarbuck). Social media was especially rife with speculation over who the bombers were and why they committed those acts. One of the greater spectres that has loomed over the social media landscape in the past few years is the group called Anonymous. While the social media reaction to the Boston bombings might be unrelated to Anonymous, and instead constitute a spontaneous reaction to the event, it might still be useful to look at this group of internetusers as a model for how social media participants might behave. As Coleman (2012) notes, Anonymous has used more recent means of communication, like Twitter, to announce their activities (#Botnetsforjustice section, para. 2). However, as Serracino Inglott (2013) writes, Anonymous also uses several older technologies to distribute materials and communicate with one another. A real time chat protocol, called Internet Relay Chat, or IRC, is often used to create chat rooms to discuss and organize activities. Anonymous members also often use a site called Pastebin. While traditionally used to post snippets of code, Anonymous uses Pastebin to announce operations, because the monospace font gives their announcements a hacker aesthetic. Finally, the BitTorrent peer to peer file sharing protocol is used for sharing any kind of larger files that Anonymous wishes to distribute (p. 226 227). Anonymous has several preferred methods of attacking sites, organizations, and individuals they disagree with, both on the internet and in real life. According to Serracino Inglott (2013), one of the favored methods is a distributed denial of service attack, or DDoS for short. A DDoS involves using several computers to simultaneously access a site. This causes the server to become overloaded with requests to access the site, and prevents legitimate visitors from using the site that is under a DDoS. Anonymous even has a special program called the Low Orbit Ion Cannon, which allows for people of minimal technical expertise to participate

  • 12. Mens Re An Actus Reus Mens rea is a necessary element, alongside an actus reus, in order for a person to be convicted in the majority of crimes. It is required to prove the mens rea in every common law and statutory offence making it a significant part of any case which enters the courtroom. There are two common forms of mens rea; intention, wicked recklessness and negligence. Both of these forms, if proven, constitute as a sufficient mens rea to be criminally liable. Intention The highest form of mens rea is more than simple contemplation and is when one person purposely causes harm to another individual. The case of Cunliffe v. Goodman involved a landlord who was intending to pull down a building on the termination of the lease. At the end of the lease, the premises was in bad repair and the landlord requested action to be taken on the tenant for the damage. However, the tenant was under the impression that the building was being demolished and refused to pay for any disrepair. It was found that the tenant was protected from liability to pay damages . Wicked recklessness the total indifference to and disregard for the safety of the public In the case of McDowall v. HM Advocate, a man was charged with culpable homicide for driving recklessly. The presiding judge stated that the man had utter disregard for the victims and the fact that he drove with the bonnet in an upright position are factors that the jury were entitled to take into account when considering his state of mind at

He knew everything about me from my favorite color to my deepest secrets. We did everything together, too; we went to the pond together, we went to the market together, we even ate together. We always exchanged I love you whenever we saw each other, and everyone thought we would eventually get married. He cared about me, and I cared about him. We were the perfect love story. Of course, all perfect stories must come to an end. It was a warm autumn day. The sun was shining, the leaves on the trees were brilliant reds, oranges, and golds, and everyone was out taking care of business on our measly dirt road. Bob and I had spent the day cleaning his home and taking care of his younger sisters, so we were both burning up. As we left his house, I had a brilliant idea. Bob darling, let us go to the pond. We can cool off there! The pond was a beautiful, tranquil place. The only sounds that could be heard were the breeze rustling the weeping willows beside the pond and the birds chirping in the willows. The pale, calm blue of the pond had helped me fall asleep a number of times. It was a wonderful place to cool off and swim, too. Bob however, instead of getting excited as he had on multiple occasions at any mention of the pond jumped away from me, guilt written on his face. I can t, I...I... Bob? Are you alright? I asked, concerned. Of course. I just can t come to the pond today, he responded, his composure regained. I...uh...I have other plans. I m sorry. Oh. Alright then. It s okay. He smiled at me, and I smiled back, although it was a little forced. Then, he turned around and disappeared into the bustle of the market. As I watched him walk away, my smile faded. What was wrong with him? Or is it me? He always hung out with me, even if he had previous arrangements. This continued for days; I would want to do something together, but Bob would have other engagements. Soon, we were doing nothing. I quickly grew suspicious. What could he possibly be doing? Eventually, I decided to follow him to his other engagements . It was a

His personal experience with the storm was ...standing on Gloucester s Back Shore watching thirty foot swells advance on Cape Ann... (Junger XIV). The next day, Junger read an article in the newspaper about a Gloucester boat (The Andrea Gail ) that was believed to be lost at sea. He saved a clipping of that article and from then on, Junger began unknowingly writing the book. Junger witnessed this destructive storm in action. He also watched the 30 foot swells crash on the Gloucester shore. These personal connections persuaded Junger to write The Perfect Storm. Also, throughout the book, Junger states that fishermen do not get the respect they deserve for their dangerous jobs. Upon further research, it was found that Sebastian Junger used to work in a labor intensive job as well. He was a climber for a tree company. After he was hurt on the job, Junger realized that dangerous work was not written about a lot. As the terrible storm hit Gloucester and a fishing boat was lost at sea, Sebastion decided he would shine light on another dangerous business, the open seas fishing industry. The subject of The Perfect Storm is the Andrea Gail and the storm that it was trapped and eventually perished in. The subject is stated at the beginning of the book in the Forward. Here, Junger describes his writing process, his inspiration, and the subject of his book. Throughout the book, Junger

The quest for the discovery commenced in 1775 when The French Academy of Sciences offered a prize to the person who could create sodium bicarbonate through the use of salt. Leblanc created soda ash through a 2 step process. The first consisted of mixing sodium chloride and concentrated sulfuric acid and heating the 2 at the temperature of approximately 850В°C. This process evolves the hydrogen chloride gas, leaving the substance as solid sodium sulfate. In the second step, the sodium sulfate is crushed and is mixed with charcoal and limestone; it is then heated in a furnace again, producing the final product of soda ash. Soda ash can be created through the Solvay process (revised by Ernest Solvay as a more efficient method) or from trona ore (refining soda ash from a natural deposit). Green River, Wyoming currently possess enough sodium bicarbonate to meet the entire world s needs for thousands of years as there is as the lake holds approximately 200 billion ton deposit of pure trona ore between layers of sandstone and shale. The only known technology required for the chemical discovery of sodium bicarbonate is the furnace; which is used to heat up the mixture of sodium chloride and concentrated sulfuric acid.

Whites received the least discrimination and it is likely because they are wealthier, more powerful and have different social identities and social roles than the rest. As Wolfram points out, the politics of linguistics necessitates a knowledgeable response rooted in research and pedagogical practice. When addressing the needs of a linguistically diverse population, it becomes crucial to examine the ways that educationis failing to help students acquire languagemastery and also failing to train teachers properly in English language instruction. A prevailing research question is as follows: what are the best ways to foster English mastery within a linguistically diverse cultural landscape? Research shows almost universally that linguistic diversity is a desirable scenario, rather than a detriment to learning. Moreover, the goal of education is far from being the creation of a homogeneous society. Education has many different goals, which will differ according to the individual needs and desires of students. However, students do need to learn how to thrive in an increasingly heterogeneous society. Academic, social, psychosocial and financial success hinges not just on the mastery of proper English but also on the mastery of cultural sensitivity. A review of literature highlights some of the core issues at stake with regards to the questions of how to best foster English mastery within a linguistically diverse society. Wolfram advocates an examination of linguistic scholarship, referring to the myriad of uninformed opinions that abound among

In this paper, we propose a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a batch mode, called HybridSeg by splitting tweets into meaningful segments, the semantic or context information is well preserved and easily extracted by the downstream applications. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to iteratively learn from confident segments as pseudo

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For everybody the Crutchman s family apple is perfect, but inside, it is repellent. With the help of the atmosphere the author shows his own discourse about the problem for him this family s way of life is ridiculous and absurd. He dwells upon it with tongue in cheek. It seems that characters are everywhere but not in their family just because they know and understand the despair and ruefulness of their little family theater. One more theme is relationships between parents and children. And one more time we see the worm: the mother who loves one child more than the other one, the mother who is jealous of her own daughter. And that of course cannot but contributes to Rachel s and Tom s future lives. Having condemned her own life, Helen does the same about their children s ones. Speaking about the language, it contributes to the whole effect of the story. It opens with the sentence that sounds like a contradiction the Crutchmans are so happy that everyone necessarily believed that they are not. It is impossible not to notice the irony of Cheever they are so so so very happy. This usage of numerous adjectives makes the story emotional and intense. Cheever creates the increase of tension by long sentences (he was at the communion rail, the fifty yard line). Many of them are 4 5 lines. But for slatting the problem the author uses simple short rhetorical questions. There aren t many stylistics devices in the text and the title of the story is maybe, the main

During the Renaissance(late 1400s 1600s), an era of society emerging towards a new way of considering the world through artistic study, the marvelous coalition of citizens that is the public was propelled out of the philosophical oppression of the Middle Ages. Moreover, this served as a pivotal time not only for traditional art, but for free and open thought in general. Because of the Renaissance s lasting influences and the grandeur of change it commenced, it will remain embedded in history for so long as the human race continues to exist. In this period of transcendence, Greco Roman culture and philosophy saw its return, the Catholic Church suffered a decline, art revolutionized itself, and academia returned to antiquity. His style that formed in Florence was exposed to Classical art and humanist thought. For instance, the paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo painted the scenes in reverse chronological order, and the complexity of figures presents a relaxed and relived mood. Besides, he emphasized the power inherited in the human body, especially torso. David is a example in this case, it represented a state of relaxation and tension, and its proportion is corresponded more to Hellenistic style than Classical Style. His muscular figures are rendered in exaggerated contrapposto, which are one of the most monumental images in Western art. [4] On the other hand, Michelangelo s late style revealed the pressure of patronage on artists during the renaissance. His anxiety about completing the sculptures is revealed in his work of sculptures and paintings. Many scholars consider his late style as a mark of the close of renaissance and as part of new Mannerist development.

This essay is on tact, professionalism, respect and disrespect, as part of my corrective action for disrespecting higher ranking military personal. I will start this essay off with defining each of the subjects so that the reader may have a full understanding on what each mean. Tact is the first subject on which I am suppose to include in this essay, tact is defined as a keen sense of what to say or do to avoid giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations. The second definition needed for this essay is on professionalism; professionalism is defined as professional character, spirit, or methods. Given that there are three main points to that definition, character is the key phrase to take from that definition for it pertains more to this essay then spirit or methods. The third definition needed is on respect, and the most suited definition for respect as it pertains to this essay is, deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment. With the definition of respect given, the last and most important definition is disrespect. Disrespect is defined as to regard or treat without respect; regard or treat with contempt or rudeness. Tact in my opinion is the way you handle yourself in situations that you do not agree with or support. In the military you will face many situations that you may not understand or agree with and the
