Unit 1 Principles Of Anatomy And Physiology
Unit 1 principles of anatomy and physiology
Describe the structure and function of the skeletal system:
The skeletal system consists of the axial skeleton, the appendicular skeleton and many different bones.
The axial skeleton is part of the skeleton, it consists of eighty bones; twenty eight in the skull and fifty
two in the torso. These bones can be found in the skull bones, the ossicles in the inner ear, the hyoid
bone, the rib cage, sternum and the vertebral column.
The picture on the right shows the axial skeleton. The parts in blue is the axial skeleton.
The appendicular is the bones and cartilage that support the limbs. There are one hundred and twenty
six bones in the appendicular system. It consists of the shoulder gridle, the arm and hand, the pelvic
girdle, the legs and feet.
The parts in red in the image are where the appendicular bones can be found in the body.
There are two hundred and six bones in the skeletal system. The five main types of bones are; Long
bones, short bones, irregular bones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, cranial bones protect the brain, vertebrae protect the spinal cord, and the ribcage protects
the heart and lungs. Skeletal muscles are attached to bones, therefore when the associated muscles
contract they cause bones to move. Bone tissues store several minerals, including calcium and
phosphorus. When required, the bone releases minerals into the blood which facilitate the amount of
minerals in the body. The red bone marrow inside some larger bones is where blood cells are
produced. With increasing age some bone marrow changes from red bone marrow to yellow bone
marrow . Yellow bone marrow consists mainly of adipose cells, and a few blood cells. It is an

Shen Congwen The New And The Old Summary
Writer Shen Congwen is not as straightforward politically involved as Lu Xun is in his short stories.
Shen Congwen writes about revolution through a series of lenses that is quite different from that of Lu
Xun. Where Lu Xun takes a more rational stance on how things should progress in China through
revolution, Shen Congwen wants the reader to see the beauty in revolution and life as a Chinese
citizen. In his short story The New and the Old, the reader experiences a dramatic scene about a
soldier who is called upon to carry out an execution. As the story continues, the reader discovers that
this executioner is the best one in town, and that his executions are seen as a true art, not very many
people can take off a head with one swing of the

Personal Memory
Introduction Methodology Sections The purpose of the experiment was to find out if there are any
mnemonic consequences of posting personal memories online. During their study, the researchers,
(Wang, Lee, Hou), compared the memory retention of events that were posted on social media versus
those events which were not posted. The study consisted of 66 undergraduate students as the
participants, who were told to complete a daily diary for a week. Also, at the end of the day, they were
told to list all the unique events that had happened and also answer whether or not they had posted the
event onto social media. Moreover, they were asked to differentiate the events as either pleasant or
unpleasant, and further asked to rate the personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the contrary, emotional intensity alone, without any influence from online postings or personal
importance, had no significant effect on memory retention of the participants. Therefore, the
researchers concluded that the effect of emotional intensity on memory retention was heavily
influenced by the factors of personal importance and online status (Wang, Lee, Hou, 2016, p. 3).
Implications
The study implicated that there were two mnemonic advantages in sharing memories via social media.
The first advantage was that social media provides an easy avenue for people to retrieve and share
their personal memories with the public. Social media allows a person to share his/her memories
anywhere and at any time, without the need of having their friends physically present with them to
facilitate the retention of a memory. Moreover, memories that are more frequently recalled and
rehearsed in a social context are much more likely to be retained in the long term retention of the
events, to which posting events on social media helps facilitate the frequent rehearsal of memory
(Wang, Lee, Hou, 2016, pp. 3 4). Also, posting events on social media helps further establish and
make meaning of one s autobiological self in the technological age. The autobiological self consists of
a person s perception of their personality that is built from a combination of memories,

Sing A Musical Analysis
Is Sing a Classic?
What makes a classic movie, a classic? Some people may say it is the actors or actresses in the movie,
the directors, or the setting. Although all of these components are important in a movie, they do not
make the movie a classic. A classic movie is all about connection the movie makes with its audience.
The more emotion the movie can draw from its viewers, the more the viewers can connect with the
movie. Having a good plot and story is a must to consider a movie to be a classic. A classic movie also
needs to be memorable to the audience. With a classic it is all about the lasting impression on its
viewers (Weeks par. 5). The new 2016 movie, Sing, meets all the requirements to be a classic. Sing is
an animated musical comedy directed by Garth Jennings and Christophe Lourdelet. Sing is rated PG,
and has won the Top Box Office Films from ASCAP Film and won Outstanding Music Supervision
from Hollywood Music In Media Awards in 2016 (Awards par. 1). The movie, Sing, is about a Koala
named Buster Moon who hosts a singing contest to help his failing theater business. Sing is a classic
movie that connects with the viewers, has a good story, and is memorable to the viewers.
What is a Classic?
In order for a movie to be considered a classic, a movie must possess three components. The movies
success is based on the audience, it is the audience that make the movie (Weeks par. 5). Movie critic
for NRP, Bob Mondello, says,

Examine one of the ways in which the technological changes and/or economic conditions of the 1980s
and 1990s helped to shape the popular music of these decades.
Intro
There have been many technological advances throughout that past four decades within music
production and many have argued that without the boom of the digital culture the popular music of
today not be as it is today. This paper will examine an extremely important technological change of
the nineteen eighties and nineteen nineties that has helped shape popular music of today.
The first section of this paper will examine or describe how the creation of the Fairlight Computer

The ability to manipulate a visual image of sound gave the creator more control of the sound thus
making way for more creativity. It used a distinctive computer screen and a light pen a computer
screen as display and a light pen system to navigate the screen, this made sound manipulation much
easier compared to it s rival, the digital synthesizer.
Many number one recording artists such as Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel and Stevie Wonder used the early
Fairlight for their recordings. In her publication Popular Music Brabazon draws our attention to the
use of the CMI on two chart topping recordings of the early eighties. Peter Gabriel s Start that was
released in May 1980 featured a string sample of the early fairlight and bush used a breaking glass
sample for her recording of Babooshka . By this time the use of samples was ever growing within
popular music.
Although the samples were not of high quality but they were definitely enough and composers were
able to make a number of incredible songs and movie scores. The composers working on the movie
Torn used the fairlight to created a majority of the sounds and music used in the film.
By 1982 the Fairlight series 2 was upgraded and improved, a real time composer interface (RTC) was

Delegating Application Essay
Delegating is a personality trait that comes in handy when cooperating with others. Consequently, by
holding this trait, it is clear to understand that a few tasks require additional opinions than just one in
order to be executed. In addition, it is also used while problem solving, at times when it is required to
be open minded with everyone s points of views. As I grow up, I aspire to maintain the characteristic
of being a delegator, as well as maintain a balance throughout the responsibilities that I take. On the
other hand, there are a variety of people prefer to not keep their tasks organized, working with these
people can be almost impossible to succeed with, and can lead to calamities. This assignment was
possibly my most difficult to complete, not due to the task itself, but by cause of it being a month long
project that was to be completed by three people, which I ended up doing myself. The day that I was

The Decline Of Chocolate Industry
The Broken Dream: The Decline of the Chocolate Industry in Ghana Chocolate, as one of the most
popular sweets around the world, not only satisfies people s taste, but also provides a means of living
for many countries. Ghana is an African country that lived upon its cocoa industry. Cocoa tree was
introduced to the Ghana accidentally by a man named Tetteh Quarshie after his trip to Spain in the late
nineteenth century (Off 96 97). Because of the increasing international demand for chocolate, the
cocoa farmers in Ghana soon benefited from the cocoa trade (Off 97). By 1920, Ghana became the
world s leading cocoa bean exporter (Off 98). The booming cocoa industry brought considerable
wealth to Ghanaian cocoa farmers that they could build new houses and roads (Ryan 10). However,
the cocoa industry in Ghana was not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, this paper would focus on the question that what cause the decline of Ghana s chocolate
industry in the mid twentieth century? Some scholars believe that the farmers could not afford the cost
of maintaining the cocoa trees from pest and diseases, which lead to the decline of the cocoa industry.
A better answer to this question is that the cocoa industry in Ghana was prone to the control of large
organizations which were solely looking out for their own self interests. First, the government in
Ghana made specific policies targeted at the cocoa industry in order to gain huge tax revenue.
Moreover, the Ghana Cocoa Marketing Board manipulated the cocoa surplus from the farmer to earn a
profit in their own coffers. Finally, large chocolate companies controlled the market price for cocoa to
maximize their profits. The demise of the cocoa industry in Ghana is significant for understanding the
vulnerability of Ghana s economy when the country rely heavily on cocoa beans as the cash

Job Stress And Occupational Stress Essay
Introduction Job stress is known as stress at work or the occupational stress. It occurs when there is a
discrepancy between the demands of the workplace and that of individual s (Tsutsumi et al., 2009).
Job stress, also known as occupational stress, has been defined as the experience of negative
emotional states such as frustration, worry, anxiety and depression attributed to work related factors
(Kyriacou, 2001). Occupational stress can be defined as the harmful physical and emotional responses
that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the
worker. Job stress can lead to poor health and even injury. The concept of Occupational stress is often
confused with challenge, but these concepts are not the same. Challenge energizes us psychologically
and physically, and it motivates us to learn new skills and master our Occupations. When a challenge
is met, we feel relaxed and satisfied (NIOSH, 1999). The Indian Economy is characterized by the
existence of a vast majority of informal or unorganized labour employment. As per the Economic
Survey 2007 08, 93% of Indian workforce are self employed and employed in the unorganized sector.
The Ministry of Labour, Government of India, has categorized this unorganized workforce in four
groups in terms of their occupation, their nature of employment, specially distressed categories and

A few additions that should be included in the overall site, is a catering section, an area for a customer
to get home delivery of some of their groceries and an area for recipes. There should be a calendar of
events for each store such as cooking classes, and charity and community events. There should be a
customer service area where email and comments go directly to store managers. There should be
contact info that includes store addresses, maps and hours as well as store, pharmacy, bakery and meat
counter phone numbers. There should also be a log in area for customers to log in to the site and
change their store loyalty card information, get loyalty card privacy information and subscribe or
unsubscribe to email flyers.
Navigation
The new site should be as easy to navigate as the old site. The links should be very clear on what each
one is being used for. The main departments of the store would be located along the left side, links to
store information should be along the top and links to corporate, privacy and legal information should
be found at the bottom.
Marketing
Marketing on the web includes more than just displaying your services and locations and providing
hours and contact information. Kudler s current site is more of a placeholder on the web than an advert
for their services. The current marketing strategy consists of a few sections describing some of the
focus that Kudler has towards specialty and premium products. The method of collecting

Media Violence and Its Effect on Society
Media Violence And Its Effect On Society
Does entertainment influence society s attitude towards violent behavior? In order to fully answer this
question we must first understand what violence is. Violence is the use of one s powers to inflict
mental or physical injury upon another; examples of this would be rape or murder. Violence in
entertainment reaches the public by way of television, movies, video games, music, and novels.
Violent images on television, as well as in the movies, have inspired people to set spouses on fire in
their beds, lie down in the middle of highways, extort money by placing bombs in airplanes, rape,
steal, murder, and commit numerous other shootings and assaults. Over 1,000 case studies have
proven that media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These children do not understand that the violence is shown strictly because the public wants to see it.
They cannot grasp the meaning of ratings and entertainment as well as adults can. All they know is, if
the TV portrays violence as cool, then it must be cool! The problem isn t the violence in the media
though; it is the media s failure to show the consequences of violence. This is especially true of
cartoons, toy commercials, and music videos. Children often do not realize that it hurts to hit someone
else because they see it all the time on TV. Everyday a cartoon character is beat up, injured, or killed,
only to return in the very next episode, good as new. As a result, children learn that there are few, if
any repercussions for committing violent acts.
In a recent incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the
head and other parts of her body numerous times. As a result, the child died from being left out in the
cold because she was not able to move due to her injuries. Later the officials had discovered that the
barbaric incident was due to the fact that the children had watched the violent cartoon Mighty
Morphin Power Rangers. The children thought that the girl would later get up because in the show the
characters never die. Consequently, the show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was canceled
throughout Norway.

The Role Of Education In The New Zealand Government

With the New Zealand election looming in just under six weeks, politics has dominated national news,
sparking interest for even a twenty year old university student like myself. Having never voted in an
election, my knowledge of the political system, and the terminology for that matter is far from
adequate. Stepping into the shoes of a politician, this paper has allowed me to examine the two key
ideologies that have shaped the radical reforms in New Zealand politics and more specifically, how
these have influenced the role of education.

Throughout this period, it is arguably mentioned that this was the closest New Zealand had reached to
a fair system. Carpenter (date) manifested this, indicating that for low socioeconomic households, this
was the time theoretically, that they could achieve, as there was well managed equality to the access of
resources across the social strata. Unfortunately, what comes up must always come down, and what
was once a stable society, fell in the wake of the 1940s, forcing tight economic controls and further
weakening the government after several global economic crises (Rashburge, 2013). This was the
downfall of social democracy, resulting in the uprise of the National Party.
One of the most prominent e¬xamples of social democracy was the New Zealand Milk in Schools
Schemes, which was inaugurated by the Labour Government in 1936. The purpose was to provide
school children with free milk to improve the health of young New Zealanders and make use of the
surplus milk (Ministry for Culture and Heritage, 2017). Up until 1967, thousands of children gulped
down their daily ration of milk. Ministry for Culture and Heritage (2017) added that this scheme arose
not from financial inability, but rather from the lack of knowledge of the necessary dietary needs

Essay On Child Discipline
Every human being has been disciplined at some point of their life. The term discipline can be defined
as to teach knowledge and skills; however, it is often equated to punish and control in parenthood. The
different ways to discipline a child has been a hot subject since the early times of the biblical period.
Many states in the United States had created laws to protect children from child abuse. In the last
decade child abuse has been on a rapidly growing issue. The goal of parenting is to provide a child
with the necessaries and emotional care to further their physical, emotional and social devolvement.
This can be a challenging task to meet because every parent has their own discipline method to get
their child fit for the real world, so they can be successful in life. The five discipline methods are time
out, Logical Consequences, Natural Consequences, Withholding Privilege, and disciplinary spanking.
Although many parents believe that disciplinary spanking is the best discipline method for a child, but
many studies shown that it should not be practiced due to acting out of rage and can have future
problems in a child adulthood. Finding the right discipline method can be difficult and stressful tasks.
Many parents want the best for their child as a result this can create many issues to figure out which
discipline method should be use. When a child doesn t follow direction it can be a headache for a
parent. Time out is a good method for younger children around the age

Keurig should insist on their plan to launch the new Keurig Cup even if the GMCR holds the opposite

Essay on The Process of Gas Metal Arc Welding
Gas metal arc welding, or most commonly referred to as MIG welding is a very common and
sometimes preferred method of welding. Gas metal arc is personally one of the easiest and
controllable welding types there is. Gas metal arc welding was originally made for weld materials
such as aluminum, copper, brass, tin and lead. It was also used on steels, but shielding gases were
highly expensive in the early 1900s limiting GMAW s use on steel. It wasn t till the mid 1900 s for
GMAW to really take off. There were many different variations of arc length, electrode size, and
power supply units. Since the MIG welder is so versatile, there are many different types of things to
make this piece of equipment.

Most power supplies also have a chart inside of them to set voltage and wire feed depending on
material thickness and electrode size.
Electrode and Shielding Gas Your electrode and both shielding gas can vary for different materials and
highly are affected by material thickness. The electrode is there to make contact to the wielding
surface and should have similar or same compositions as the metal being welded to. Your shielding
gas makes a big difference when welding to, especially with aluminum and other non ferrous metals.
Shielding gases are used because most GMAW welding electrodes don t have a flux; the gas is used to
protect the weld. It is best to use pure inert gases such as helium and argon for non ferrous metals
because of its cleaner and less oxidizing properties. Carbon dioxide is most commonly used for steel
or an inert and carbon dioxide gas mixture. The carbon dioxide supplies deeper penetration needed for
welding steel, but can sometimes cause an oxidation. Oxygen is even a shielding gas but can cause
your material to brittle and can cause porosity in your weld. Another big part of GMAW and any
welding operation is safety!
Safety
Safety when welding is very important and should be considered the most important thing to take in
consideration. You should always wear a very burn resistant glove; leather is commonly used by most.

Introduction
The goal of the Change Management process is to ensure that standardised methods and procedures
are used for efficient and prompt handling of all Changes, in order to minimise the impact of Change
related Incidents upon service quality, and consequently to improve the day to day operations of the
organisation.
In this report I have outline EMC s main reasons for implementing the Information lifecycle
management (ILM) project, the problems associated with implementing the project and possible ways
to overcome these issues.
In the main body of the report I will give an account of the years leading up to the implementation of
the ILM project. This is an important factor as the industry was in a recession at the time and ... Show

Before the downturn EMC was capable of making million dollar deals, after the downturn the market
for such deals simply did not exist. While certain surveys show IT spending growing, I believe most
companies will be extremely cautious in increasing their IT spending during 2003, I do believe there s
a bias toward the positive, but no one s willing to commit to increased spending before they see how
the year develops.
The larger companies in the market where not prepared to make such big deals at that time, so EMC
targeted the smaller companies in the market. Two important factors to consider when selecting a
target market segment are the attractiveness of the segment and the fit between the segment and the
firm s objectives, resources, and capabilities.
EMC still expects to invest $1 billion in research and development during 2001, and is investing
heavily in its internal information technology infrastructure and looking for areas where it can build
talent in several strategic areas.
Due to the steps taken above, EMC was perfectly placed to progress in the market. They had built a
sold base during the dot com shakeout without neglecting key resources such are R D, this was the
best decision made by top management during the shake out years. Although money was tight, top
management knew the importance of R D if were to grow into the future. This decision has aided
EMC s move to ILM a great deal.

Explain The Panopticon By Michel Foucault
According to Michel Foucault, power is knowledge and knowledge is power. He also believed that as
individuals, everyone will react to situations in different ways. Foucault said that power reaches into
the very grain of individuals, touches their bodies and inserts itself into their actions and attitudes,
their discourses, learning processes and everyday lives. 1 Foucault believed that knowledge is always
a form of power, but he took it a step further and told us that knowledge can be gained from power.
Through observation, new knowledge is produced. Foucault presents these thoughts in the following
manner.
Knowledge linked to power, not only assumes the authority of the truth but has the power to make
itself true. All knowledge, once applied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the territorialisation of Sharia law can be considered as the process of govenrmentality (2nd point

Global Fund Advisor Introduced Webs
Chapter 1 : Introduction: The idea of ETF was first perceived by NATHAN MOST in 1993. Nathan s
first ETF was called SPARD (also referred to as SPIDER) and it was first traded on the American
stock exchange (AMEX) by state street GA. SPARD s only purpose is to track the S P 500. The
number of ETFs that track different indexes all over the world exchange markets have increased
significantly since 1993. SPARD, as a first ETF, dominated the markets in the 1990s, together with
CUBES, which was designed to track NASDAQ 100. The ETF is a financial product, which has
attracted a large number of financial product designers. The ETF as a creative idea has opened a
significant number of empty rooms on the exchange market, which needed to be filled with new ETF
products. This is what attracted the financial product designers to create different types of ETFs in the
last 21 years. Barclays global fund advisor introduced WEBS (world equity benchmark shares) in
1996 as a first ETF to provide American investors with easy access to the forging markets. They
created a family of ETFs and each ETF had ishares as a first name and the index it followed as a
second name (Ferri, 2002) . The ETF influence could first be seen in Europe, when the German
Deutsche bank presented an ETF linked to commodity in 2006 (Fuchita Yasuyuki, 2007). ETF
Barclays continued to generate new EFT products by launching the first ETF linked to the bond price
index in 2002. The ETF as a financial product on the

Depending on how you decide to think about it; it could very well have a suspenseful, and possibly
horrific aspect to it. Made possible by the depiction of the location, its surroundings, colors, texture,
brightness, and shading of the farmhouse in the painting, etc. With that being said; one should have a
pretty good idea on what this farmhouse, and its surroundings look like by now. The next question we
usually ask ourselves is why? why the color, why the worn out look of the farmhouse, why the
surroundings, in general why is the painting depicted like this? That brings up the need to analyze the
work of art at hand. When focusing on this painting, you can see a few birds soaring over the
farmhouse. They re quite small so there s some difficulty telling if they re flying towards or away
from the farmhouse. It is still very probable that they flew over it at some point in time though. The
lines in the painting are mostly depicted in the trees, and outer walls of the farmhouse. Standing firm
the trees look, and or represent strength and dominance. It makes you wonder if there s still hope for
the dead looking environment surrounding the farmhouse. When first observing this painting; the
thoughts were generally negative such as; sad, abandoned, lonely, and depressing, etc. The painting is
indeed centered, and the focal point is obviously the farmhouse.

The Authoritarian Personality By Erich Fromm Summary
The article, The Authoritarian Personality, written by Erich Fromm discusses the common and
different characteristics between the two forms of an authoritarian personality. He starts to explain
how one becomes a mature person. He states that to become a mature person, said person needs to
have developed love and reason. He then states that an authoritarian character has not reached
maturity, and therefore, has not developed love or reason. Erich Fromm continues to explain that the
difference between the ruler and the ruled is how they start to feel greater. The way the ruled feels
greater is by depending on their ruler for guidance and by following the ruler to become a part of the
larger group. The way the ruler feels greater is by depending on the ruled to continue to look at them
as strong and powerful. He then points out that one person can hold both the ruler and the ruled
characteristics. Erich Fromm continues to explain the differences between rational and irrational
authority and where these two forms of authority are found. He ends by saying that the understanding
of love and reason, and developing said characteristics is the foundation to a person s own authority
and political democracy. While reading this article, it brought me back to all the times I have dealt
with people who have authoritative personalities and how it affected me. As stated by Erich Fromm,
all people with authority personalities contain components of both the ruler and the ruled. To

The Journey Of Mansa Musa Dbq
One journey, thousands of pounds of gold, thousands of slaves and servants, a hundred camels, and
one man spread the Islamic religion for a hajj of four thousand miles. The journey of Mansa Musa was
a famous trip that stretched from the ancient city of Mali to Mecca, the birthplace of Islam. Mansa
Musa, a rich, prosperous man who took advantage of situations to benefit himself, not only wanted to
spread Islam throughout his hajj, but to show off his wealth, to give compulsorily, and accumulate
trade partners. The journey of Mansa Musa was a long and famous journey that took place in the
northern part of Africa. However, the journey was not just a religious venture, but one to show off

Mansa Musa brought over ten thousand personal slaves as well as entertainers, flag bearers, guards,
and other extravagant people (Document A). One does not need even over a thousand personal slaves
for an estimated 2,000 miles long journey. Nor does one need flag bearers or musicians. Mansa Musa
brought so many slaves and servants to show common folk how rich he was and how much power he
held. The poorer people who saw him on his hajj would then spread the word of Mansa Musa s wealth
and power. Mansa Musa went on the journey to establish trade partners, such as with a village called
Taghaza. Taghaza was a village far north of the original trade route. Mansa Musa went out of his way
to a small village that consisted of slaves and mines. The salt mines were precisely the reason why
Mansa Musa stopped at Taghaza. Salt was needed for taste, nutrition, dehydration, and food
preservation. It was literally worth its weight in gold (Document B). Because salt was such a valuable
import, Mansa Musa was willing to travel out of his way to become trade partners with a small
village. Mansa Musa went on his hajj to give alms to the poorer people of the

Student Athletes Should Be Paid
College sports these days are a huge money pit, NCAA makes millions of dollars off of student
athletes every year. Should the NCAA start sharing the profits with these student athletes, which every
year help grow the NCAA brand? It s an important question that seems to come up every day on
television, the internet, and even in the newspaper. Student athletes are going to college on
scholarships which are sold to them by coaches, scouts, and other school administration as a
commitment to the student s future. All they ask is for the student athlete to make a commitment to the
school by signing a contract to attend, which is called the letter of intent . With the students make a

This is most likely the reason these young athletes elect to turn professional early. With the NCAA
bringing in more money every year and student athletes starting to ask for a chuck of the profit pie.
Should student athletes get paid for the helping the NCAA grow its brand or should they continue to
be strictly amateurs?
Many believe that paying college athletes is wrong because they are amateurs, or students first and
athletes second. With tuition continuing to raise the average athletic scholarships aren t covering the
costs anymore. There is a misconception that most college athletes on athletic scholarships are getting
everything paid for, in reality that s actually false. For example, a Division I basketball team is granted
thirteen scholarships each year. Of those thirteen scholarships the University is allowed to split them
up however they feel. These scholarships are for incoming students from high school and returning
student athletes that had their scholarship picked up for another year. According to author Mark
Kantrowitz, less than 20,000 students a year receive an entirely free ride to college (O Shaughnessy,
2011). That number is students total, not student athletes, that is a very small number when you see
that there were 453,347 NCAA student athletes in 2012 13 (Brown, 2013). Student athletes don t have

Evil And Jealousy In Shakespeare s Othello
Evil is when someone/something is wicked or does bad things in spite of inflicting harm on another. In
the play Othello written by Shakespeare we see many of the characters who are taken over by evil.
One thing that we see in common throughout the play is a theme of jealousy that runs through many
characters in the story. We learn that the evil within the story act as a pyramid, as if the jealousy is
being passed down by the characters. Evil and jealousy can make a person run on impulse and do
crazy things because of it. We see Othello and his companions are all under the influence of jealousy
which makes each of them do their own evil doings. So we do see evil in Othello in more than just one
person, bringing conflict and many deaths to the

Vacuum Trucks Vs Vacuum Trucks
Vacuum trucks are an extremely useful and valuable commercial vehicle, taking on the task of helping
everyone live comfortably in clean, waste free surroundings. Certainly, at some point in time, people
need the services of this truck, whether it is a county that wants to clean up a clogged drainage system

· Overall capacity The two different areas that need to be considered for capacity are the axles
carrying weight capacity and the vehicle s tank capacity. The tank capacity is an important thing to
consider and will vary depending upon what services or job it is designed to handle.
· Numbers of axles Vacuum trucks have different numbers of axles that are dependent upon the size of

Hofstede s Cultural Traits And Its Impacts On Leadership
Another study from Oke (2013) revealed some similar verdicts on the Nigerian managers. This study
was for the construction professionals, and it indicated that most of the Nigerian managers use the
autocratic leadership style. At the same time, there is a strong sense of result oriented approach among
these managers as they concern primarily with the task at hand; and do not tend to cater for the long
term development of those under their command (Oke, 2013). The author further commented that
democratic and participative leaderships had not been observed amongst the Nigerian managers.
Regarding Chinese managers also tend to be autocratic when they fulfill their leadership
responsibilities (Sharkey and Murray, 2015). Chinese people are known for their respect for the
authority, and it is often in the Chinese culture that a follower should not directly express their
thoughts but to follow instructions (Ma and Tsui, 2015). Another trait of the Chinese leaders is the
tendency to think carefully before making a decision as they would like to make sure such would lead
to long term benefits whilst the decision is to be deemed appropriate by others (Ma and Tsui, 2015).
In order to better understand the underlying factors contributing to cultural specific leadership styles
and to therefore discuss the cross cultural management/leadership issues this essay will now refer to
Hofstede s cultural dimension model.

There was a public demand for alcohol, so many people took up the opportunity to supply this
growing demand and many ordinary US citizens were turned into criminals. The law was escaped by
many US citizens, some of them weren t even discovered. In a single year. The public still had the
benefit of drinking alcohol and when the saloons and shops selling alcohol were shut, the public found
substitutes. Some had stills in their own homes and some called on speakeasies. Convicted offenders
against Prohibition were often let off mildly. Standard fines were about $130 and even serious
offenders were imprisoned for less than six months. A immense percentage of the country still drank
and some drank more than they did before Prohibition as alcohol was so easy to find. However some
of this alcohol was not the type of alcohol that they were used to drinking which resulted in many
health problems. More employees were probably absent from work than before Prohibition, with
alcohol poisoning from drinking the moonshine , which frequently resulted in blindness and death.
This was because of the types of alcohol sold, where no one knew quite what they were getting. In fact
much of this alcohol was industrial alcohol, unfit for consumption which caused blistered lips. Lack of

the great state is composed of an addition peninsula. These two peninsulas are surround by 5 great

These drainage basins that formed 6,000 years ago are the origin of the Great Lakes we are familiar
with today. These glacial lakes are thought to much larger than the current bodies of water surrounding
Michigan. The evidence of these lakes can be found, for example, around Saginaw bay where there
are eroded bluffs and plains located far away from the current Lake. Glaciers also left us many
moraines in the state of Michigan. Moraines are land masses where debris, carried by glaciers has
formed ridges or mounds. Moraines can be an indicator of the end of a large glacial retreat. Moraines
are created by the wasting ice sheet and are composed of glacial till. Glacial till (unsorted glacial
sediment) is laid down quickly as the glacier moves and is composed of various sediments with many
rocks and stones. In Michigan there are many famous moraines. As the lucky residents of Marquette
we can look out our windows and see evidence of glaciers because of all of our rolling hills. Rolling
landforms are a typifying aspect of a moraine.
The great lakes have certainly influenced Michigan s unique shape and distinctive mitten shape,

rivers and streams throughout the state of Michigan that have also helped shape the land we enjoy
today. Rivers help shape landscapes through erosion and the transportation and deposition of

Kant Analysis
However, there seems to be a foundational flaw in Kant s logic that he uses to justify synthetic a priori
statements, like the ones from above, that defeat the argument. The issue sprouts from how to think
about a term s definition. Being true by definition is a quality of a priori knowledge and also analytic
statements, but Kant, in a sense, is attempting to argue that not all things true by definition are analytic
knowledge. Consider what a definition really is, where it originated, and how it was derived. A
definition of a word describes it in detail and was created, whether it was your own personal spin on a

As we explained before, basic math is always a priori since it is able to be derived with reason alone
without the need of sensory experience. The argument for simple addition being a type of synthetic
statement in this context seems to be justified because new information, the addition of five, is being
used to derive a new concept, the number twelve, from another concept, the number seven. By making
a further observation to this, there are areas that do not seem consistent with the usual justification of a
synthetic statement. For something to be a synthetic statement, you must derive a new attribute to a
concept by getting information from somewhere outside of the concept itself. At first glance, it seems
as though this was accomplished, but taking a closer look you would realize that the number twelve is
not an extension of the number seven. Twelve says nothing about seven, it is an entirely new
standalone concept, although it is derived from seven, it is not a feature of seven and provides no new
information about it. The closest possible rebuttal one may argue is to say that twelve, in this context,
delivers information about what happens to seven when one is to add five to it. It does not feel strong
enough to close the case, considering that twelve is still a whole separate entity from seven, but even
if that

The First Form Of Writing
All these years we have given credit to Europeans for contributions to the world but in reality the ones

that the oral and written story telling have been developing parallel and have influenced each other.
this is saying that the the oral stories and the written have been developing with time and has been

The article What it takes to be great, by Geoffrey Colvin is very well written. Geoffrey Colvin makes
valid points to support his opinion on what it takes to be great. I agree with Colvin s idea that to be
great at something it requires hard work. He expands on this by saying it takes deliberate practice.
What Colvin meant by deliberate practice, was that is performing not just to get something done, but
to be efficient and push oneself to accomplish more. An example could be playing basketball. If a

well as transfer students. At first I was frustrated with all that was going on. I have not seemed to have
as much time as last year to go out and have fun. This year I have been studying twice as much to
keep up with everything and I feel it is good for me. This article has shown me that anything worth

not just school work. Working hard can lead to something great, but you may not even know what it is
until it hits you right in the face. Another main point I can apply to myself as a transfer student is to
never give up. I know times will be tough as a college student. It will be the same in the real world.

The director has used this shot to create suspense and tension. By focussing on the sign it gives
emphasis and meaning. This immediately gets the audience thinking and creates deep effect because
the audience is getting into the film and makes them think and feel tension. In contrast Lurhmann uses
a low angle shot to great effect. He is focussing on the helicopter in the air, the effect this has shows
the audience that the prince; someone important is arriving therefore its as if we look up to him,
however this can make the audience feel small and vulnerable. The next technique I will be focussing
on is editing and shot transitions. In the first scene we see the introduction on Romeo and Juliet with
voices talking and background music. Then a wipe out edit is used to introduce the Montague boys
who are in their car. The effect this has is that it reduces tension; because during the introduction it
was building up by continuous flicking shots, which created a sense of tension, then it all stops and
focuses on the Capulate boys which then reduces the tension. As a result it also introduces comedy
and creates a slightly more calm effect. Another type of edit Lurhmann uses is a freeze frame. This is
used on several occasions, one of them being as the camera focuses on Capulates heel and slowly
moves up the body, where the freeze frame is focussed on Capulates face. This

common side effects. In new research described by Cox Singh et al, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal

Napoleon; he freed many ghettos that were occupied by Jews, they were also given full civil rights
before any other European country, in the late 18th Century. It was even the earliest country in Europe
to have Jewish cabinet ministers; the first time a Jew entered the cabinet was in 1848. Many other

Following the political defeat of Catiline, Cicero started giving speeches about the Catiline

Unfortunately, the senate wanted to prosecute Caesar for the events that happened in 59 BCE. On top
of this, one of his supporters, Pompey who was now Consul, stopped supporting him because he was
threatened by the success Caesar had in Gaul. In the winter of 49 BCE, Caesar went to his winter
quarters in an attempt to come to an agreement with Pompey. Unfortunately, an agreement was not
made between the two and the Senate gave complete control of the Roman Empire to Pompey. This
event is what prompted Caesar to cross the Rubicon River. The Rubicon was a border between the two

Roman law and was categorized as an act of war, a Civil War.
This Civil war started in 49 BCE, which is the point many people argue the Roman Republic came to
an end. Caesar and Pompey, along with each of their own armies, were in an all out war battling on
Roman soil. Unlike Pompey, Caesar

The study consisted of 66 undergraduate students as the participants, who were told to complete a daily diary for a week. On the contrary, emotional intensity alone, without any influence from online postings or personal importance, had no significant effect on memory retention of the participants. Therefore, the researchers concluded that the effect of emotional intensity on memory retention was heavily influenced by the factors of personal importance and online status (Wang, Lee, Hou, 2016, p. 3). Implications The study implicated that there were two mnemonic advantages in sharing memories via social media. The first advantage was that social media provides an easy avenue for people to retrieve and share their personal memories with the public. Social media allows a person to share his/her memories anywhere and at any time, without the need of having their friends physically present with them to facilitate the retention of a memory. Moreover, memories that are more frequently recalled and rehearsed in a social context are much more likely to be retained in the long term retention of the events, to which posting events on social media helps facilitate the frequent rehearsal of memory (Wang, Lee, Hou, 2016, pp. 3 4). Also, posting events on social media helps further establish and make meaning of one s autobiological self in the technological age. Everyday a cartoon character is beat up, injured, or killed, only to return in the very next episode, good as new. In a recent incident in Norway, two children beat another child by jumping and kicking the child in the head and other parts of her body numerous times. The Authoritarian Personality By Erich Fromm Summary The article, The Authoritarian Personality, written by Erich Fromm discusses the common and different characteristics between the two forms of an authoritarian personality. He starts to explain how one becomes a mature person. He states that to become a mature person, said person needs to have developed love and reason. He then states that an authoritarian character has not reached maturity, and therefore, has not developed love or reason. Erich Fromm continues to explain that the difference between the ruler and the ruled is how they start to feel greater. The way the ruled feels greater is by depending on their ruler for guidance and by following the ruler to become a part of the larger group. The way the ruler feels greater is by depending on the ruled to continue to look at them as strong and powerful. He then points out that one person can hold both the ruler and the ruled characteristics. Erich Fromm continues to explain the differences between rational and irrational authority and where these two forms of authority are found. He ends by saying that the understanding of love and reason, and developing said characteristics is the foundation to a person s own authority and political democracy. While reading this article, it brought me back to all the times I have dealt with people who have authoritative personalities and how it affected me. With the NCAA bringing in more money every year and student athletes starting to ask for a chuck of the profit pie. Should student athletes get paid for the helping the NCAA grow its brand or should they continue to be strictly amateurs? Many believe that paying college athletes is wrong because they are amateurs, or students first and athletes second. With tuition continuing to raise the average athletic scholarships aren t covering the costs anymore. There is a misconception that most college athletes on athletic scholarships are getting everything paid for, in reality that s actually false. For example, a Division I basketball team is granted thirteen scholarships each year. Of those thirteen scholarships the University is allowed to split them up however they feel. These scholarships are for incoming students from high school and returning student athletes that had their scholarship picked up for another year. According to author Mark Kantrowitz, less than 20,000 students a year receive an entirely free ride to college (O Shaughnessy, 2011). This study was for the construction professionals, and it indicated that most of the Nigerian managers use the autocratic leadership style. At the same time, there is a strong sense of result oriented approach among these managers as they concern primarily with the task at hand; and do not tend to cater for the long term development of those under their command (Oke, 2013). The author further commented that democratic and participative leaderships had not been observed amongst the Nigerian managers. Regarding Chinese managers also tend to be autocratic when they fulfill their leadership responsibilities (Sharkey and Murray, 2015). Chinese people are known for their respect for the authority, and it is often in the Chinese culture that a follower should not directly express their thoughts but to follow instructions (Ma and Tsui, 2015). The issue sprouts from how to think about a term s definition. Consider what a definition really is, where it originated, and how it was derived. The argument for simple addition being a type of synthetic statement in this context seems to be justified because new information, the addition of five, is being used to derive a new concept, the number twelve, from another concept, the number seven. By making a further observation to this, there are areas that do not seem consistent with the usual justification of a synthetic statement. For something to be a synthetic statement, you must derive a new attribute to a concept by getting information from somewhere outside of the concept itself. At first glance, it seems as though this was accomplished, but taking a closer look you would realize that the number twelve is not an extension of the number seven. Twelve says nothing about seven, it is an entirely new standalone concept, although it is derived from seven, it is not a feature of seven and provides no new information about it. The closest possible rebuttal one may argue is to say that twelve, in this context, delivers information about what happens to seven when one is to add five to it. It does not feel strong enough to close the case, considering that twelve is still a whole separate entity from seven, but even if that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
