The Birds Nest Stadium
1.0 Project Description
The Beijing National Stadium, better known as the Birds Nest Stadium is a sporting facility which was
purposefully built for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. This stadium is known for using tonnes of
steel (up to 42,000 tonnes) to produce a stadium that resembles a Birds Nest as shown in the figure
below (Bell,2017). Figure 1 Birds Nest Stadium (Bell,2017)
The stadium could fit up to 91,000 people inside and clever design by the architectural firm Herzog de
Meuron allowed for this stadium to go down as one of the architectural wonders of the world
(Bell,2017). The project began in October of 2002 with an invitation for bidders opened by the BDPC
which allowed for companies to submit tender prices for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Other inputs to the estimate include Human Resource Plan, Risk Register and Organisational Process
Assets (Peebles,2017). All these inputs that the CITIC consortium used would help formulate the
estimation of cost that would be supplied in the tender process to the BDPC.
2.2 Tools and Techniques
Using the inputs above combined with specialised tools and techniques, the CITIC Consortium came
up with an outputted estimated cost to submit for the tender. These tools are as follows. High quality
personnel were trained for estimates and the company (CITIC Consortium) had a finance department
used for estimating projects (Chinyere,2013). This team was used throughout the whole project and
because of their background in estimating, this meant that they had expert judgement on what
activities could be done and for what price. Other techniques the team used include computer software
which could generate estimates on prices using historical information and previous projects that the
team had done (Chinyere, 2013). In regards to project cost management theory, analogous estimating
and parametric estimating are seen to be better so using these might have given the company a better
estimate on the Birds Nest Stadium project (Hueber, 2015).

Cushing s Syndrome Research Paper
Cushing s syndrome
In this report I will be discussing the Endocrine System, and Cushing s syndrome, a disease that
targets this system. The endocrine system works together with the nervous system to maintain the
body s homeostasis. Although both the nervous system and endocrine system do both help in
maintaining the body s homeostasis the endocrine system responds much slower but its effects last for
longer periods of time. The slow response of the endocrine system is due to the utilizing of chemical
messengers known as hormones that are transported through the bloodstream. These hormones
function by binding to specific receptor sites on target cells, the activation of these target cells depends
on 3 important factors. The first of these factors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cool Hand Luke Movie Analysis
The film Cool Hand Luke Directed by Stuart Rosenberg was released in 1967. It was about how Luke
goes through his time in prison. The other film that relates to this film is One Flew Over the Cuckoo s
Nest directed by Miloš Forman was released in 1975. It was about how Randle was put in a psych
ward because everyone thinks he s crazy but helps the other patients and like Luke, Randle both films
had Propp s theory on narrative structure where there are the traditional seven characters and the main
characters were heroes but they don t seem like heroes. They use camera angles to show how the
characters in both films can be known as role models and not heros. In the film Cool Hand Luke how

Burn Injury
Burn injury is one of the most severe forms of critical illness and is associated with long term
complications. One concern is the long term effects of burn associated metabolic abnormalities in
glucose and lipid metabolism, which lead to the high incidence of morbidity and mortality in this
patient population [1].
Children are more vulnerable than adults to the metabolic abnormalities associated with burns due to
anatomical and physiologic factors and their limited energy reserves compared with adults [2]. Severe
burns are physically and psychologically catastrophic. Burned children have an elevated resting
energy expenditure, muscle weakness, and whole body catabolism, all of which are worsened by
prolonged bed rest and physical inactivity [3, 4]. Burned patients suffer from a concomitant muscle
wasting and negative nitrogen balance. The use of anabolic agents such as recombinant human growth
hormone and oxandrolone results in improved bone mineral content and muscle strength [5].
The role of the skin in maintaining adequate serum vitamin D (VD) levels has been well established
[6]. VD, or calciferol, is a liposoluble prohormone available in two forms: VD2 and VD3. Many
studies have suggested that VD is essential for bone health because of its role in the regulation of

approaches to burn care have been investigated in an attempt to ameliorate these adverse effects of
hypovitaminosis D [12]. One of these therapies is exercise, which has been reported to improve the
functional outcome of burn patients

The Turing Test And The Theory Of Computer System
Can a machine think? Is a long lived question humans have had? If a machine can think then it must
have the same intelligence as a human, then right? If a machine has human intelligence, then does that
mean it has a mind of its own? It is desired by many humans to know if one day the answers to all
these questions could be yes. In hopes of figuring this out, a testing method was created called the
Turing Test. This test was created by an English mathematician named Alan Turing in the 1940s and
1950s. Alan Turing was interested in the idea of artificial intelligence, or the theory of computers
being able perform tasks like humans. In result of introducing this theory, Turing developed a testing
method called the Turing Test. This would answer the question Can computers think? The Turing Test
consist of three subjects. Two of these subjects are humans and the other is a computer system. One
human is the questioner who is required to ask the other two subjects a series of questions. By the
responses of the other two subjects, the questioner has to determine which subject is the computer, and
which one is the human. In order to receive accurate results, the test is repeated many times. If the
computer system is believed to be the human subject by the questioner, then the computer system is
confirmed to have artificial intelligence. However, questioning must be in a specific style for accurate
test results. Computer systems have an advantage over humans in certain

Rhetorical Analysis Of Lyndon B. Johnson s Speech The...
In Lyndon B. Johnson s speech The Great Society he is effective in showing that the society must
work to build and achieve a great society. He is effective in showing this by giving examples of how
to improve America by using rhetorical devices in his speech to create envisionments of the future in
the society. By doing this he is effective in his speech to motivate people to participate and help
develop this great society. In Lyndon B. Johnson s speech the language he uses shows that America
can be greatly improved to achieve a great society. A Great Society for the American people and their
fellow men elsewhere was the vision of Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson is telling the citizens of America
that he envisions America to become a great society. He wants to work on the weaknesses so that the
American society can be fully developed and advanced in the quick developing world. The Great
Society program became Johnson s agenda for Congress in January 1965: aid to education, attack on

population to make them realize this. Men come together in cities in order to live, but they remain
together in order to live the good life. The future of America depends on people coming together and
working together to build a good life which is what Johnson envisioned in his great society. He uses

The Differences Of Christine De Pisan And Geoffrey Chaucer
Christine De Pisan and Geoffrey Chaucer are very important literature figures who lived during the
medieval age in Europe. They both had their significant works and their role in society. Pisan
contributed to draw attention to women s rights and equality between sexes, and Chaucer contributed
to enhance the English language. Christine De Pisan was a poet, a women s right activist and a
journalist who was born in 1364 in Venice, Italy. Pisan learned Latin, Philosophy, Literature and

Celebrity Endorsement Marketing Campaigns

Celebrity Endorsement Marketing Campaigns
Celebrity endorsement is a billion dollar industries today (Kambitsis et al., 2002) with companies
signing deals with celebrities hoping that they can help them stand out from the clutter and give them
a unique and relevant position in the mind of the consumer. According to Solomon (2002), the reasons
for using celebrity endorsement involves its potential to create awareness, positive feelings towards
their advertising and brand. Research has shown that celebrity endorsement can have an impact on the
consumer s attention, recall, evaluations and purchase intentions (Atkin and Block, 1993), Celebrity

Self image has been research in the context of celebrity endorsement, and established that it is an
important factor in marketing (Fortini Cambell, 1992). Some of the respondents told stories of how
they were influenced by celebrity endorsement when they were younger. One person referenced
Michael Jordan and his endorsement of the Nike shoes. This reflects self image when considering
what to buy and what influenced them. It also reflects a need to be different as well as the same time
identify with a group of people. Apparently this can go both ways. If one product gets too popular
among a certain group it can actually make others choose another product even though they like it.
Companies may also use celebrities to try to control or manipulate the consumer into buying the
endorsed product. This may have a negative impact, as consumers may view the celebrities as being
puppets for the company. Companies are using celebrities to influence the consumers behavior in a
certain direction, at the same time the consumer often may perceive the celebrity to by lying when
indorsing certain products. For example, many a celebrity has been photographed while enjoying a
cold Pepsi much to the dismay of the marketing department for Coke that they are promoting. The
celebrity is no longer perceived as genuine and may loss

Immigration has been a part of American history ever since the United States was founded. American
schools were built on the foundation of European traditions that have come to be problematic due to
the increased number of immigrants from different regions of the world. There have been recent
arguments over the quality of education migrants, legal and illegal, are receiving in secondary

In a study comparing the achievements of first and second generational Mexican and Chinese
immigrants, the researchers found that children s upward mobility is affected by structural and
relational attributes in their high school (Hao, 2008, pg.87). The structure involves the sector or setting
and the relational attributes deal with the standards, bonds and responsibilities found at a school.
Structural and relational attributes in the school can effect immigrant students by their teachers
becoming uninterested or not knowing how to teach them. Some structures were not built and
equipped to handle immigrant problems, as some relational attributes do not apply to the obstacles that
immigrants already face. Migrant children face a number of obstacles when they move to a foreign
country and these challenges can greatly affect students school performance. The result of whether or
not an immigrant student goes to college is greatly concerned with the social class split within the
immigrant population (Jaffe Walter Lee, 2011, pg.281). Immigrant families who have an upper class
background tend to have the resources they need to succeed in America. These families are less likely
to struggle financially and are able to give their children a proper education. Upper class immigrants
are more likely to be involved and aware of the problems within a school system and are willing to
fight against them. Highly educated settlers have a greater opportunity to send

Erasmus Influence On Religion
Absolutely, the role of religion in the last thousand years of human history cannot be overstated. The
wager of wars and the builder of kingdoms, religion has been responsible for many great occurrences.
Nonetheless, religion, too, has nefarious potential. The rise of the Humanist movement meant the rise
of laicism, which also meant religion and its institutions were constantly challenged Christianity and
the Catholic Church largely came under fire due to mass corruption within the institution. Among
Christianity s critics was Desiderius Erasmus, arguably the first to oppose the Church and one of the
most influential writers of the Humanist period; his criticisms of the Catholic Church in The Praise of
Folly were derivative of his desire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being an educated, Catholic man of piety himself, Erasmus could not be swept aside as a heretic, but
was acknowledged and instigated a great deal of distrust toward the Church from the middle class.
Though an intellectual, Erasmus struggled while attending the University of Paris because, as a
scholastic institution, he found it stifled his imagination. His Praise of Folly was first written in Latin,
not unusual given the period in which it was written, and Erasmus was recognized as having
considerable skill in writing Latin. Since many of the texts that come from antiquity are written in
Latin, a great deal effort is put into maintaining the integrity of the original text during its translation
to English. The narrative of The Praise of Folly may be divided into three main segments: firstly, Folly
introduces herself as the only she...whose divine influence makes gods and men rejoice, and the crude,
satirical nature of the work is established. She explains her fundamental role in all relationships,
reasoning that no one would be able to stand one another without her aid. The second section is where
the foolish banter ends and the criticisms begin; Folly chastises doctors, lawyers, grammarians, and
artists for their lack or excess of her essence, but above all she expresses her contempt for theologians.
Thirdly and finally, Folly addresses the idea that Christianity is a faith by and for fools, with Jesus
being the biggest fool of

Factors That Led To The Prosperity Of The 1920 s
The prosperity of the 1920 s had everyone believing that their success will last forever. The
industrialization era and advancement of technology and the development of the entertainment

Judges Must Make Law
INTRODUCTION:
Parliament, the supreme law making body, has an unrestricted legislative power, and the laws it passes
cannot be set aside by the courts. The role of judges, in relation to laws enacted by Parliament, is to
interpret and apply them, rather than to pass judgment on whether they are good or bad laws.
However, evidence has shown that they have a tendency to deviate from their real roles and instead
formulate laws on their own terms. Thus the real role of a judge in any legal system continues to be a
phenomenon questioned by many. We must consider whether they are authoritarian law makers, or if
their profession makes them mere declarers of the law . In this essay, I will argue the ways that judges
do make law as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in Tremain v Pike it was held that the rare disease was not foreseeable and refused the
claim; the court held that you cannot foresee a rare disease. Evidently, both the decisions are
inconsistent with one another; The judge consequently had greater freedom of justification in applying
the reasonable foresight test than he might otherwise have done . Thus one may argue that decisions
are dependent on judicial styles, as opposed to precedent, which concurs with Hart s perspective.
PRECEDENT:
One may argue that precedent restrains a judge in making decisions regarding the outcome of a case.
In its basic structure it means that any court is bound by the decision of a higher court in the judicial
hierarchy provided that the facts of the present case are similar to those of the previous case. Thus,
every court is bound by decisions made by the HL, and in their absence, those made by the CA.
Wendell Holmes Jnr stated, the life of the Law has not been logic; it has been experience . This idea
implies judges draw from past decisions in order to determine current cases. However, whilst it can act
as a tool for constraint, there are alternatives to following precedent which include distinguishing,
overruling, and reversing. Thus judges try to avoid compliance with precedent and employ their own
individual discretions.
Distinguishing a case on its facts is

Argument Against The Legalization Of Homosexual Marriage
Rhetorical Precis Austin Reynolds, in his term paper, k, proves with strong assertations that there is
evidence to support the legalization of homosexual marriage, though many would argue that it will
harm the sanctity of marriage and harm the right to freedom of religion. Reynolds supports his ideas
by expounding upon the inequality that LGBT people are given and how gay marriage will bring harm
to no man, women, or child. The author s purpose is to inform the reader on all aspects of gay
marriage so they understand the controversial reasoning behind the idea as well as the arguments
against the proposal. Reynolds writes in a formal tone for the American Studies English teachers at
Granite Hills High School. Introduction Imagine you live in a world where you can t ever be married
to the person you love. Thats it. No matter what you do you cannot marry them because of a religious
group. Imagine someone tells you that you can t eat a donut because they are on a diet. Now lets come

they wake up everyday to ignorant people bestowing their beliefs upon other people and attempting to
give them less rights. What other piece of American history does this parallel? This parallels the Civil

Goya And Picasso Comparison
Pablo Picasso and Goya were both very famous artists and were part of the cubist movement. They
both have a very different style of painting but they do have similarities in some of their paintings. For
example, Picasso s Guernica and Goya s Third of May are similar in ways. The Guernica is probably
Pablo Picasso s most famous work. It is a painting that expresses his most influential political
statements. It is about his personal reaction to the Nazi s casual bombing practice on the Basque town
of Guernica during the Spanish civil war. The Guernica shows the tragedies of war and the suffering it
inflicts upon individuals, particularly innocent civilians. This work has gained a monumental status,

There is death all over the painting and when you focus on a small part of the massive painting, you
can see different figures appear with different meanings behind it. While individual figures are hard to
make out, each one has a different story behind it for example on the far left is a woman with her head
titled back, screaming in pain and misery while holding the lifeless body of her dead child. This is said
to be one of the most disturbing and memorable images in the painting. To the right of that figure is
the head of a large white bull, which is the only unharmed and calm figure from the chaos of figures.
Beneath the mother holding her died child is a dead/wounded man with his arm cut off and his other
arm appears to hold a knife. The figure only has his head and arms visible; the rest of his body is
overlapped by the different figures. In the middle, there is scared horse standing with his mouth open
screaming in pain because a sword cuts up the whole right side of his body. On the right side of the
painting, there are three more different women. One woman who is looking up at a cube thing hanging
from the ceiling at the top of the painting. Another women is leaning out of the window of a burning
house, her long extended arm holding a lamp, while the third woman appears trapped in the burning
building, screaming in fear and horror (Khan). All of the women s faces show signs of pain and agony.

The Impact of Outsourcing on the U.S. Economy Essay
It is difficult to determine whether offshore outsourcing has a positive or negative effect on the U.S.
economy. It may actually depend on which perspective you take on it. As stated by Hira and Hira
(2005), outsourcing in the services sector is a major shift in how the economy operates and will have
serious impacts, both positive and negative, on the trajectory of economic growth, distribution of
income and the workforce. However, there are many factors to take into account when considering
globalization. Companies must familiarize themselves with the various rules and regulations of global
business, tariffs, trade agreements and barriers, and decide how to go global; global consistency or

Furthermore, the U.S. economy may also benefit if companies reinvest the extra profits gained from
outsourcing for expansion in the U.S. This creates more jobs at home, but again, this is a long term
effect of outsourcing and depends on how successful that business is overseas. Exporting presents
many advantages including reduced dependency on home market sales and greater control over
research, design and production decisions. Conversely, many exported goods are subject to tariff or
nontariff barriers and transportation costs that may substantially increase the final cost to consumers
(Williams, 2009.) Some companies stand to benefit from exporting. Large U.S. based organizations
are strongly in favor of their companies free ability to export U.S. jobs and have no interest in taking
responsibility for the consequences to their employees. Basically, this means that the CEOs,
executives and shareholders support offshore outsourcing because they stand to gain from rising
profits and stock prices while employees here at home are losing their jobs to free trade and
offshoring. The U.S. is in a period of transition in which many companies have just discovered the
benefits of outsourcing, so they are anxiously scrambling to substitute cheaper foreign labor for
American labor. The direct transfer of work overseas is growing much faster than the

Myth Of Abusive Relationships
Toxic people have ways of pulling others willingly into unhealthy relationships without raising any
obvious red flags. They know how to make the other person feel that every mishap is their fault while
steering the blame away from themselves. Many people believe that those who are caught up in an
abusive relationship allow themselves to be the other s doormat, but the truth is that it happens
regardless of how confident or smart the abuser s partner is.
There is a certain level of myth regarding what society views as a healthy or unhealthy relationship.
While the latter is seen through rose colored lenses, the former conjures images of violent drunks who
beat their partners. Unfortunately, it is not always so obvious. Very often, abusive relationships have ...

They have an uncanny ability to pinpoint weaknesses and use them in such away to build to the other
person up rather than make him or her a better person. In doing so, they become the hero in the
relationship.
Differing Standards
Sometimes partners create an unspoken agreement that one person always does what the other person
wants and the other can do whatever they want. Interestingly, the second individual is not held to the
same level of accountability. An example is when a man can be out at all hours of the night and balks
at being questioned, yet the woman cannot do the same without facing an interrogation. This is an
unhealthy foundation on which to build the relationship.
Neediness
There is a difference between a person wanting to be around their partner and being overly needy and
clingy. When they start throwing around threats of what they will do if the other person ever leaves,
that is a form of emotional control attempting to hold the partner hostage. It may feel like love, but no
one is ever responsible for somebody else s emotional stability.

Deconstructing of Forest and Woodland
Introduction
The definitions for the words forest and woodland are heterogeneous around the world and are
circumscribed to each country´s structural stands in local eco regions.
Countries as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Japan, Mexico or US, with a great
diversity of climates and soil conditions attributable to their large land extensions and altitude
gradients (Borja Jimenez et al. 2013), can be identified as territories with high variety of forests and
woodlands.
The great diversity and diffuse thresholds among ecosystems difficult construction of criteria for their
classification into inventories and application of management and conservation policies.
Box Fujiwara (2013) differentiate forests from woodlands: forest is an ecosystem dominated by tall
trees, in a closed structure (considered closed when tree crowns are touching) and woodland is an
ecosystem dominated by tall or short trees with an open distribution.
The etymology of both words has different meanings according to the language. In Chinese, 森林
(sēnlín), the first character, sēn (also mori in Japanese) means tree , forest , dark , gloomy ; the second
character, lín, means forest , grove , thicket , wood . Differently, 林地 (líndì) means wood (first
character) land (second character). It also means holt that means little forest . The word bosque in
Spanish derives from the German word busch meaning bush , shrub , jungle . Different from English,
in Spanish the terms

Lieutenant Baxter Case Study
The officer s actions were justified in this case because Lieutenant Baxter reasonably believed that
force was necessary to defend himself from the young man. According to one section of the Penal
Code, a deadly physical force is justified when the officer reasonably believes that a person has
committed a felony and that, in attempting to escape from the custody or in resisting arrest, the felon
is armed with a deadly weapon. When the young man stole Mr. Marcel Potts car, he is guilty of theft.
Therefore, he has committed a felony. Additionally, as stated by the officer, the guy had tried to climb

Chlamydi Sexually Transmitted Infection
Chlamydia is the most common type of Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) amongst young people.
It is also known as the silent STI because numerous people don t even know that they re even infected
with this infection as symptoms don t normally appear until one to three weeks. This infection can
both males and females. A person could easily be infected with Chlamydia by having sex such as anal,
vaginal or oral with someone who is already infected, and that s where it all starts. Chlamydia can
occur to every individual and each individual have an equal chance in getting infected, however there
are consequences of contracting Chlamydia for individuals who lives in urban areas compared to rural
areas. Individuals who contracts Chlamydia in urban areas are able to have professional doctors that
are able to treat the infection. If there wasn t enough professional doctors available, Chlamydia can
eventually spread to certain parts of the body. It infects males in the urethra (tube of the penis) and
may spread to the epididymis, whilst it infects females in the neck of the uterus (cervix) and spread to

I Am A Candidate For Aas s Accounting At St. Paul College...
I am a candidate for AAS in Accounting at St. Paul College and University in Minneapolis, Minnesota
for a full degree in accounting. It is my long term goal to be a financial consultant. Nowadays, the
business world is changing at a faster and faster pace. The reasons for this faster pace are globalization
, information technology, and the faster pace in technological change. The role of IT has shifted over
the last decades to become an important part of how firms manage and control their resources. As the
result, IT plays a critical role in accounting. IT is the platform for accounting data and it allows certain
sophisticated queries to be performed though, IT clearly plays an important role in accounting
functions. The impact of IT in firms is broad and manifested in the most varied ways in the integrated
systems, which includes ERP systems, internet, intranet, and so on, walk hand in hand with the firm
know how. These technologies have altered the way firms work and their accounting functions.
However, the constant growing and changing field of IT has had an important impact on all levels of
the firm s organization. In this context, the term information management has emerged as the most
common name. As rue result, management information systems were developed to support the new
role of accountant. This new role forced accountants to become the interpreter of information and to
deal with the information overload. Now, the accounting department is now responsible to

Archetypes In Ancient Greek Culture
The connections between humans and culture over time are in ancient literature. The connections
,archetypes, can be found in the adventurous book The Odyssey. Ancient Greek culture is brought up
by Homer through archetypes. These archetypes help connect one another over time. In the Odyssey,
topics such as terrifying monsters , love tests, and an unstoppable hero are all related to ancient Greek
culture. The Odyssey shows archetypes that also reveal this culture. Three archetypes found are
monsters, loyalty, and a hero, which shows the ancient Greek culture for modern readers. Skull

description of him shows a common archetype and viewing of heroes in ancient Greek times. Heroes

external forces, found in the The Hero s Journey, is another quote for a hero s archetype. (Harris,3)
Odysseus is only a mortal given a task to accomplish while fighting monsters and facing great
dangers. The title hero varies between different cultures, but all have a similarity. Ancient Greeks
viewed heroes as immortal, massive, god like, and known for killing using trickery, while modern
times view heroes as muscular, immortal, saving people, and wearing capes when doing it. Lastly, a
quote in the same article states A hero could not be heroic without something or one to overcome.
(Harris,15) A hero needs an obstacle in order to be an interesting hero. Odysseus must overcome all
dangers throughout his journey home.

Theme Of Fate In Oedipus The King
Oedipus the King: Fate or Free will Throughout Oedipus the King, the concept of fate and free will
plays an essential part in Oedipus destruction. This story describes the suffering of Oedipus as a result
of a misfortune of which he has no control over. Oedipus is a play that demonstrates how a person s
life can either be destined to take a certain path or be based on the decisions a person makes
throughout their life. There are no oracles or prophecies that can determine how an individual s life
turns out to be, but according to Sophocles the gods cursed Oedipus even before he was born. This is a
tragic event of a conflict between the powerful gods, his blindness, a man s inability to change his
destiny and his intelligence. Oedipus does not deserve all the tragedies that happened to him, and he is
a victim of fate. The gods had already proclaimed Oedipus fate even before he knew it. His fate has
been bound since the day he was born and there is no way it can be avoided. The herdsman says If you
are the man he says you are, you re bred to misery . (1361 1362) This means that he was born to be
miserable, no matter what kind of person he turns out to be. Everyone already knew the outcome
would turn out horrible as it is expected. E.R Dodds says ...is that man has no free will but is a puppet
in the hands of the gods who pull the strings that make him dance. (35) This shows how the gods are
controlling him and his future life. The gods had cursed him which means he has been controlled since
the beginning just like puppets. This metaphor serves as a perfect example of what Oedipus goes
through.
Some of his actions were unintentional, however some of them were ignorant and this is what s
stopping him from uncovering the truth. The day Oedipus meets Teiresias, he tells him that Oedipus is
the murderer of Laius. Oedipus cannot believe that Teiresias would say such things. He was not
convinced of the reality and accuses Teiresias of being a liar. Oedipus says Not twice shall say
calumnies like this and stay unpunished . (415 416) Oedipus is considered ignorant because although
he is given knowledge from the wiser character, he chooses to ignore the facts and continue looking
for the killer. Gould mentions

The social and cultural movements of the 1960s began to upset the traditional norms of gender

In 1964 both of these family sitcoms were introduced to us. The Munsters and Addams Family
actually critiqued the suburban family as embodied in the television sitcoms of the 1950s by
undermining its image. These shows portrayed the typical suburban family that included young kids
and family pets, as well as a mother who held the family together. They also questioned the values and
social norms of American families during the 1950s. Just like their ethnic identity, social status and
extended family structure, the Munster and Addams families made us question traditional family roles.
The women of the house break gender rules of the 1960s housewife by looking for employment
outside the home, while the men, even though they work, they always seem to be home all the time.
The shows made parts of the counterculture safe for the television audience, assuring them that being
different could also be lovable. That s why young families really enjoyed watching these shows
because they realized that it was okay to be different and still be considered normal. Both sitcoms also
offered comfort that the deviance, the not so perfect nature of real families was not really that strange

Essay on The Cultural Differences Argument for Moral...
Ruth Villagra
The Cultural Differences Argument for Moral Relativism. Moral Relativism is generally used to
describe the differences among various cultures that influence their morality and ethics. According to
James Rachels, because of moral relativism there typically is no right and wrong and briefly states :
Different cultures have different moral codes. (Rachels, 18) Various cultures perceive right and wrong
differently. What is considered right in one society could be considered wrong in another, but
altogether all cultures have some values in common. In Elements of Moral Philosophy, the author
gives examples of such. For instance, a tribe of Indians known as Callatians ate bodies of their dead

(Rachels, 20) Premises are supposed to support or provide evidence for the conclusion. To summarize,
he believes that there is not one objective truth or a correct way to dispose of the bodies because
although the culture s actions are different, their beliefs have a common value to it. It is possible that
the Callatians believed that through cannibalization, the spirits of their dead fathers would be within
them and by cremating or burying their bodies it would be viewed as a sign of disrespect. ( Rachels,
30) If we were to look at the Eskimos example, Rachels argues that even if in our society infanticide is
seen as cruel and an immoral behavior, it is actually quite logical because they are a nomadic tribe
constantly traveling and rely on the males to hunt and provide for the family the disadvantage would
be having an overpopulation of females. He argues that cultural relativism supports this belief because
moral ethics is just based on different cultures different cultures have different moral codes. There s a
difference in opinion which means that you can t judge the other and that there isn t just one truth of
which is right and wrong. However, Rachels also provides a different example that is actually a logical
flaw that attributes to the Cultural Differences Argument. Some people believe that the earth is flat
and others believe it s round. He argues that because of cultural relativism,

not quite as well known. I remembered that there was also a Creative Writing class that I could take. I

The Effect Of Priming Of Optimism And The Esteem On Life...
This study analyzed the effect of the priming of optimism and self esteem on life satisfaction. It was
predicted that participants with low self esteem and primed with optimism with have high life
satisfaction rates. Optimism was primed by having the participant make four sentences by using words
from a group of words. The Rosenberg scale was used to classify the participants into low or high self
esteem. The life satisfaction questionnaire was used to rate how much the participant was satisfied
with life. It was concluded that participants who have high self esteem also have high satisfaction than
those who have low self esteem. No interaction was found to be conclusive.
The Effect of Priming Optimism and Self Esteem on Life Satisfaction
It has been recorded that self esteem has a huge impact on how people see them themselves. It is an
indicator of how the person will be able to manage certain situations in his or her life. Self esteem is
the confidence in one s own worth or abilities. Self esteem can affect the way someone feels about his
or her life. The prime effect is the implication of a memory effect in which exposure to one stimulus
influences the response to another stimulus. The person s behavior may be exposed to actions that
unconsciously shape the way he or she acts and thinks. This may be shown in repetition of words to
alter the way a person may act to something. For example, if the person sees the words table
repeatedly, he or she is more

can even result in death. You know as well as I know what happened in Hurricane Katrina. I went

Khoisan Superiority
For a long time South Africa was inhabitable until a group known as the Khoisan traveled there, where
they lived for many years as the superior group until the group known as the Afrikaners came and took
that superiority. A Little while after the Afrikaners came is when things really started to change. They
started developing superiority over the Khoisan. Some reasons for this are that they started to
develope an early sense of dominance over the Khoisan and The Battle of Blood River. The Afrikaners
developed an early state of dominance by taking land and cattle from the Khoisan. This was because
when Jan van Riebeeck had to lay of men they needed somewhere to live so he gave the men 28 acres
of land that was used by the Khoisan. As a result Khoisan tried to fight back ,but didn t stand a chance
against the Afrikaners who had much better weapons like guns. The Khoisan then realized that they

Presentation- Carbon Fibre in Tennis Rackets Script
Intro
Hi, I m going to be talking about Carbon fibre in tennis rackets
What I will cover in the next ten minutes is this.
I will talk you through what Carbon fibre is, its atomic structure, properties which then makes it the
ideal material for modern tennis rackets.
What is Carbon fibre?
Carbon fibre consist of tiny filament about 5 8 mu metres in diameter. Carbon fibre mostly contains
carbon bonds which are bonded together in a crystal Alignment. This means there are strong covalent
bonds between the molecules. Being in its crystal alignment, this gives carbon fibre a high to strength
to volume ratio which basically means it strong for its size.
For example if you could make a tow from several thousand of carbon fibres bundled ... Show more

As it is for advanced player with a large swing it needs to be pretty aerodynamic. The tension can go
up to 62 lb which definitely gives it more control and feel. With the weight the power is medium.

Pros Of Driverless Cars
One of the self driving cars approached a crosswalk, it did what it was supposed to do when it slowed
to allow a pedestrian to cross and the car used the brakes. The person who was crossing the street was
fine, but the automatic car has been hit from behind by a human driven car. Those kind of cars is
programmed to follow the letter of the law. However, it is not easy to get a driverless car in the streets
with a lot of people that don t pay attention. In the United States, innovative and futuristic cars are
constantly developing, with the necessary modifications, to a new industrialization. Evolutions of cars
never stops, and this is more evident when we speak about new technologies, such as those that are
applied to electric vehicles. All of that being said, autonomous cars can make a significant and
positive difference in the way that society functions.... driverless car will be an important futuristic

Essay On Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart spoke the words, I want to do something useful in the world. Not only did she speak
these words, but she lived by them with her lifetime full of astonishing aviation records and other
services. From her tomboyish childhood to her first flight, Amelia Earhart proved that airplanes and
service were her passion. Throughout her entire career, Earhart showed the world what women could
do and truly became a world leading pilot and adventurer. Amelia Mary Earhart was born on July 24,
1897 to Edwin and Amy Otis Earhart in Atchison, Kansas (Encyclopedia of World Biography.) Earhart
s father was an attorney for the railroad, and because he was always moving for his job, Earhart spent
most of her childhood with her mother s parents, Judge Alfred and Amelia Otis (Dictionary of
American Biography.) It was with them that she showed early evidence of living life while beating to
her own drum. Growing up on her grandparents farm, she partook in many tomboy activities like
exploring river caves and playing physical sports such as football, basketball, and baseball
(Contemporary Heroes and Heroines.) She also loved school although attending six different high
schools because of her family having to move around (Science and Its Times.) After graduating high
school, Earhart became a nurse s aide in Canada during World War I to help with the wounded soldiers
returning home from war. Afterwards, she enrolled at Columbia University in New York as a pre

Meet Josh. Josh is a 30 year old artist/chef who resides in a transformed stockroom in Hackney, east
Greater london. Josh has a beard, glasses and appreciates the provenance of his coffee. He pays his

While the meaning of hipster hasn t changed significantly over the years, there was a time when it was
considered to be something both meaningful and particular. The word was created in the 1940s to
specify a person who rejected social norms such as middle class white individuals who listened to
jazz. Then came a responsive literary subculture, understood via the work of beatniks such as Jack
Kerouac and William Burroughs. It was Norman Mailer which attempted to define hipsters in his
essay The White Negro as postwar American white generation of rebels, disillusioned by battle, which
decided to divorce oneself from society, to exist without roots, to set out on that undiscovered trip into
the rebellious imperatives of the self . A decade later on, we had the counter culture movement hippies
that lugged their lantern in a relatively obvious manner, divorced from the mainstream. The word
mainly disappeared until the 1990s, when it was redefined so about explain middle class youths with

Evolutionary Theory Of Antibiotic Resistance
Antibiotic resistance has become a hot topic amongst scientists and healthcare professionals. It would
be rare to observe in a clinical setting and not see some type of antibiotic resistant infection being
treated. Scientists and medical doctors are scrambling trying to develop plans to discover new drugs or
at least dampen the rate at which these organisms are developing resistance. Evolutionary biologists
are claiming this type of resistance as proof of evolution, but is that a statement that is really supported
by the evidence? It depends on which type of evolution is being talked about first. Macroevolution is
the theory that one species can evolve into a totally different species. Microevolution is the change of
genotypes and phenotypes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory developed by Joseph Francis states that microbes and viruses were created as a link to
macro organisms to provide a substrate upon which all macro organisms can survive and thrive in
ecosystems (Francis). The evidence of this can be seen in symbiotic relationships between microbes
and macro organisms that provide the macro organisms the ability to live and thrive. An example of
this would be the intestinal microbes in humans that provide digestive enzymes, vitamins, and other
nutrients that are vital to the health of the human (Francis). Another example would be nitrogen fixing
bacteria that promote plant growth. This would include Burkholderia phymatum and Cupriavidus
taiwanensis with Mimosa plants. (Geoffrey et al., 2006). Also, Francis mentions the Rhizobium
bacterium which also fixes nitrogen for plant use (Francis). Without these microbes, the macro
organisms would not be able to function to their best capability and could possibly cause the
breakdown of all life

War Story Essay

War Stories
Tim O Brien got his inspiration from multiple instances of his time served in Vietnam. O Brien was
against the war like most of the people in the United States were at the time. He was a college student
looking forward to a different future. Like many others, he received a draft noticed on June 17th,
1968. He felt he was too good to go to war and tried to get out of being drafted with no luck. This
angered him greatly. He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the 3rd Platoon, A CO. 5th
Battalion, 46th Infantry, as a foot soldier. His tour of duty was from 1969 to 1970. The unit he was in
deployed in with went to a part of Vietnam that they called Pinkville . His time in Vietnam gave him,
along with others, many stories to tell.
The Vietnam War was the longest conflict America has been involved in. The main reason for U.S.
involvement in Vietnam was to help stop the spread of communism. The theory at the time was the
Domino Effect which predicted that if Vietnam fell to communist control that all of Asia would. ...

O Brian explains how to tell the difference in the two. A real story has no moral to it; it doesn t have a
feel good ending. It will have a large amount of gore in it along with the use of obscenities. He says It
comes down to gut instinct. A true war story, if truly told makes the stomach believe (O Brien 72) in
the chapter titled How to Tell a True War Story he explains how we add things to something that
happened to help add clarity to the story or to make it better. Like when Sanders a member of his
platoon tells him a story, he wants him to believe not by facts but by feeling. So Sanders admits to
adding details to the story that were not true but made it a better story because the actual facts were

State, Political Economy and Governanc
HOW DO YOU ENCOUNTER STATE AND CITIZENSHIP IN YOUR DAILY LIFE?
UNDERSTANDING STATE:
The modern word state has been derived from the word status earlier employed by Teutons. It was
Niccolo Machiavelli who first used the term state in political science. From the beginning of social
life, mankind has lived under some kind of authority. The authority has varied in its nature and has
exercised its function through different forms of organisation. Beneath these differences in the
concrete manifestation of political lifemay be observed a practical identity of purpose, and by
disregarding non essential elements and modification that arise ... Show more content on

Politically organized people of a definite territory iii. An organization of public law that is
monopolistic over the use of violence against a group or population iv. An organization which in
internal matters carries out its function through a unified set of institutions known as the government.
ELEMENTS OF THE STATE:
The state, as said earlier may be viewed as both a concrete thing and an abstract idea. A concrete thing
means that it is specific human group or association and viewed in abstract terms, it is a corporation
possessing a juristic personality. The state is composed of both physical and metaphysical elements.
These elements are:
i. A group of human beings, i.e. population (population) ii. A territory upon which they permanently
reside (territory) iii. Internal sovereignty and independence from foreign control (sovereignty) iv. A
political organization or agency through which the collective will of the population is expressed, i.e.
government (government)
Absence of any one of these elements nullifies the state: all must exist together. The state is not
people, nor the land nor the government, but all of them in addition; the state must possess that unity
which makes it a distinct and independent political entity. These features are common to all states,
irrespective of their historically specific manifestation. For e.g., it applies to the Greek City states, the
medieval kingdom, the modern monarchy and all the other kinds of states that

  • 2. The Birds Nest Stadium 1.0 Project Description The Beijing National Stadium, better known as the Birds Nest Stadium is a sporting facility which was purposefully built for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. This stadium is known for using tonnes of steel (up to 42,000 tonnes) to produce a stadium that resembles a Birds Nest as shown in the figure below (Bell,2017). Figure 1 Birds Nest Stadium (Bell,2017) The stadium could fit up to 91,000 people inside and clever design by the architectural firm Herzog de Meuron allowed for this stadium to go down as one of the architectural wonders of the world (Bell,2017). Other inputs to the estimate include Human Resource Plan, Risk Register and Organisational Process Assets (Peebles,2017). All these inputs that the CITIC consortium used would help formulate the estimation of cost that would be supplied in the tender process to the BDPC. 2.2 Tools and Techniques Using the inputs above combined with specialised tools and techniques, the CITIC Consortium came up with an outputted estimated cost to submit for the tender. These tools are as follows. High quality personnel were trained for estimates and the company (CITIC Consortium) had a finance department used for estimating projects (Chinyere,2013). This team was used throughout the whole project and because of their background in estimating, this meant that they had expert judgement on what activities could be done and for what price. Other techniques the team used include computer software which could generate estimates on prices using historical information and previous projects that the team had done (Chinyere, 2013). In regards to project cost management theory, analogous estimating and parametric estimating are seen to be better so using these might have given the company a better estimate on the Birds Nest Stadium project (Hueber, 2015). 2.3 Outputs Inputs and tools/techniques are used to come up with an ... The endocrine system works together with the nervous system to maintain the body s homeostasis. Although both the nervous system and endocrine system do both help in maintaining the body s homeostasis the endocrine system responds much slower but its effects last for longer periods of time. The slow response of the endocrine system is due to the utilizing of chemical messengers known as hormones that are transported through the bloodstream. These hormones function by binding to specific receptor sites on target cells, the activation of these target cells depends on 3 important factors. The first of these factors ... • 5. Burn Injury Burn injury is one of the most severe forms of critical illness and is associated with long term complications. One concern is the long term effects of burn associated metabolic abnormalities in glucose and lipid metabolism, which lead to the high incidence of morbidity and mortality in this patient population [1]. Children are more vulnerable than adults to the metabolic abnormalities associated with burns due to anatomical and physiologic factors and their limited energy reserves compared with adults [2]. Severe burns are physically and psychologically catastrophic. Burned children have an elevated resting energy expenditure, muscle weakness, and whole body catabolism, all of which are worsened by prolonged bed rest and physical inactivity [3, 4]. Burned patients suffer from a concomitant muscle wasting and negative nitrogen balance. The use of anabolic agents such as recombinant human growth hormone and oxandrolone results in improved bone mineral content and muscle strength [5]. The role of the skin in maintaining adequate serum vitamin D (VD) levels has been well established [6]. VD, or calciferol, is a liposoluble prohormone available in two forms: VD2 and VD3. • 6. The Turing Test And The Theory Of Computer System Can a machine think? Is a long lived question humans have had? If a machine can think then it must have the same intelligence as a human, then right? If a machine has human intelligence, then does that mean it has a mind of its own? It is desired by many humans to know if one day the answers to all these questions could be yes. In hopes of figuring this out, a testing method was created called the Turing Test. This test was created by an English mathematician named Alan Turing in the 1940s and 1950s. Alan Turing was interested in the idea of artificial intelligence, or the theory of computers being able perform tasks like humans. In result of introducing this theory, Turing developed a testing method called the Turing Test. This would answer the question Can computers think? The Turing Test consist of three subjects. Two of these subjects are humans and the other is a computer system. One human is the questioner who is required to ask the other two subjects a series of questions. By the responses of the other two subjects, the questioner has to determine which subject is the computer, and which one is the human. In order to receive accurate results, the test is repeated many times. If the computer system is believed to be the human subject by the questioner, then the computer system is confirmed to have artificial intelligence. However, questioning must be in a specific style for accurate test results. Computer systems have an advantage over humans in certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The role of judges, in relation to laws enacted by Parliament, is to interpret and apply them, rather than to pass judgment on whether they are good or bad laws. However, evidence has shown that they have a tendency to deviate from their real roles and instead formulate laws on their own terms. Thus the real role of a judge in any legal system continues to be a phenomenon questioned by many. • 25. Theme Of Fate In Oedipus The King Oedipus the King: Fate or Free will Throughout Oedipus the King, the concept of fate and free will plays an essential part in Oedipus destruction. This story describes the suffering of Oedipus as a result of a misfortune of which he has no control over. Oedipus is a play that demonstrates how a person s life can either be destined to take a certain path or be based on the decisions a person makes throughout their life. There are no oracles or prophecies that can determine how an individual s life turns out to be, but according to Sophocles the gods cursed Oedipus even before he was born. This is a tragic event of a conflict between the powerful gods, his blindness, a man s inability to change his destiny and his intelligence. Oedipus does not deserve all the tragedies that happened to him, and he is a victim of fate. The gods had already proclaimed Oedipus fate even before he knew it. His fate has been bound since the day he was born and there is no way it can be avoided. The herdsman says If you are the man he says you are, you re bred to misery . (1361 1362) This means that he was born to be miserable, no matter what kind of person he turns out to be. Everyone already knew the outcome would turn out horrible as it is expected. E.R Dodds says ...is that man has no free will but is a puppet in the hands of the gods who pull the strings that make him dance. (35) This shows how the gods are controlling him and his future life. The gods had cursed him which means he has been controlled since the beginning just like puppets. This metaphor serves as a perfect example of what Oedipus goes through. Some of his actions were unintentional, however some of them were ignorant and this is what s stopping him from uncovering the truth. The day Oedipus meets Teiresias, he tells him that Oedipus is the murderer of Laius. Oedipus cannot believe that Teiresias would say such things. He was not convinced of the reality and accuses Teiresias of being a liar. Oedipus says Not twice shall say calumnies like this and stay unpunished . Moral Relativism is generally used to describe the differences among various cultures that influence their morality and ethics. According to James Rachels, because of moral relativism there typically is no right and wrong and briefly states : Different cultures have different moral codes. (Rachels, 18) Various cultures perceive right and wrong differently. What is considered right in one society could be considered wrong in another, but altogether all cultures have some values in common. In Elements of Moral Philosophy, the author gives examples of such. For instance, a tribe of Indians known as Callatians ate bodies of their dead fathers; the Greeks turned to ... To summarize, he believes that there is not one objective truth or a correct way to dispose of the bodies because although the culture s actions are different, their beliefs have a common value to it. It is possible that the Callatians believed that through cannibalization, the spirits of their dead fathers would be within them and by cremating or burying their bodies it would be viewed as a sign of disrespect. ( Rachels, 30) If we were to look at the Eskimos example, Rachels argues that even if in our society infanticide is seen as cruel and an immoral behavior, it is actually quite logical because they are a nomadic tribe constantly traveling and rely on the males to hunt and provide for the family the disadvantage would be having an overpopulation of females. He argues that cultural relativism supports this belief because moral ethics is just based on different cultures different cultures have different moral codes. There s a difference in opinion which means that you can t judge the other and that there isn t just one truth of which is right and wrong. However, Rachels also provides a different example that is actually a logical flaw that attributes to the Cultural Differences Argument. Some people believe that the earth is flat and others believe it s round. He argues that because of cultural relativism, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
