Government Interventions are Failing
Introduction Around the world, governments, mostly intervenes in the market in order to accomplish
their policy objectives. The government s policy objectives or goals could be related to economics,
ranging from stabilization of prices, export promoting, encourage equal distributions for income and
commodity protection. The examples as per above proves that government intervention is not only
limited to economic effects but also influences the society. There are two (2) types of usual regulated
government interventions, which are automatic and discretionary. Automatic can be defined as
intervention which is based on rules and regulations. On the other side, government interventions
which are discretionary mostly targets stopping, suspension or limitation of a certain contract market.
An early review of government market interventions shows that discretionary based interventions
usually fails in accomplishing targeted policy objective compared to interventions based on rules as
the latter proves to be more successful in a market economy. At the same time, discretionary
interventions give results that are undesired and this could be quite damaging to the government. The
harmfulness in this aspect can be defined as total impact on those involved in either marketing or
producing commodities.
Government Intervention in the Markets Some of the reasons which cause government interventions
are in order to overcome market failure, to accomplish an equal distribution

The New Arts Education Plan
With the upcoming addition of our middle school we will be developing a sixth, seventh, and eighth
grade arts program consistent with the frameworks of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years
Programme. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme requires visual and performing
arts for all students and demands much more of students and teachers than our more traditional
elementary arts program. We hope to provide an arts rich school community to all our students. The
new arts education plan would continue our focus on developing knowledge about art forms in various
contexts, developing the language of art, and learning how to respond to and evaluate art. Within this
new arts education plan we also hope to offer a more diverse range of art materials to our students
such as ceramics, sculpture, pottery, weaving, metalworking, and stained glass. These new materials
would allow our students opportunities to create higher level art, be exposed to portions of art history
that are often forgotten, and work in new ways that were once limited by only creating 2D art. We
hope to create this new arts education plan for our new middle school while maintaining a strong
elementary arts education program. Drama, music, and visual arts are important parts of our students
week. These courses allow our students to learn life skills such as respect, communication,
perseverance, problem solving, accountability, and collaboration, while reinforcing and integrating

Unhappy Man in E.A. Robinson s a Happy Man
THE NEEDS AND ITS COVERAGE IN BUILDING HAPPINESS
IN EDWIN ARLINGTON S A HAPPY MAN
Introduction
A Happy Man is a poem of Edwin Arlington Robinson about happiness reached by Edwin through the
decision he made. Edwin lived in a period of millionaire when American competes to become
millionaire after the Civil War. He born and raised in Maine to a wealthy family, he was the youngest
of three sons and not groomed to take over the family business. Instead, he pursued poetry since
childhood, joining the local poetry society as its youngest member. His personal life was soon beset by
a chain of tragedies. But in A Happy Man, he is a man of happiness in his live. He doesn t pretend as a

The higher esteem appears in our deep heart. Achieving this level leads us to the advanced level of
needs which brings happiness. Higher esteem comes along with self improvement willingness. They
who passed this level are aware of their self. They eager to change negative qualities in themselves
that could be changed. Arabian proverb said ashlikh nafsaka yashlukhu lakannas . Correct yourself
then others.
The next is Self Actualization comes as part of the higher esteem needs after self improvement
willingness; it is the continuous desire to fulfill potentials, to be all that you can be. They are a matter
of becoming the most complete, the fullest, you . Along with this comes a certain freshness of
appreciation, an ability to see things, even ordinary things, with wonder. They will become more
aware around them. Then with their full potential, they will conscious or unconsciously fill people
needs by doing something. At the end, happiness not only brought to themselves but also to others.
Conclusion
The happiness is often related to the coverage of needs. As people born and grown, they only have
small needs for their survival at the beginning. When their basic survival needs completed, they will
face a test to the next level of needs, failure on the test leads them lost in the basic survival needs
accomplishment. In the other hand, a success in the test brings them awareness towards themselves
and around. This circumstance brings happiness not

Tim Burton Cinematic Techniques Essay
Tim Burton, known for his movies that appeal to all ages with dark and mysterious twists such as
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, and many others. Burton uses
multiple cinematic techniques to create dramatic events that keep his audience on the edge of their
seats. Burton uses a series of camera angles and shots to do so. His mystery films are unique, and uses
elements to bring the attention to smaller, more important details of the film. Establishing shot is a
basic technique that is used in every film. Every film must have an establishing shot because every
scene in a movie at is established by a camera, a camera is establishing a scene. Tim Burton is a type

High angle is a technique which a camera showing something from a high angle. Such as in one of
Burton s films, Big Fish, a high angle is used when the townsfolk are at the town hall about the giant
problem high angle is used to show how far the crowd of people go and gives the audience an estimate
of how many people are at the town meeting. This technique used in this scene makes the audience
wonder if the giant situation is really that big of a deal. One other film this technique is used is the
film, Edward Scissorhands. In one scene towards the end of the film, Edward pushes Jim through a
window from the top floor in Edward s castle. The camera stays on the top floor where the window
used to be and looks down at Jim who is dead on the ground. This provides an estimated drop for how
far Jim fell for the audience and makes thinks to themselves not to mess with Edward. Another
example film is the movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In the same scene when the candy room
is presented, high angle is also used. After the shot is established, longshot is used to zoom out and see
the entire room. But, without that high angle you don t see the chocolate waterfall or the bridge
connecting the two shores of the chocolate river. You just see the ground and whatever is on the
ground. This makes the audience get a better sense of what is in the room and they are not only
thinking it is only candy grass and

Kohlberg s Theory Of The Development Of Moral Judgement
Critically Evaluate Kohlberg s Theory of the Development of Moral Judgement
Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) on moral
development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a critical
manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of situations
he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial findings of sex
differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral development by
interviewing 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral issues. These
issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority ... Show more content on

Although the universal support for Kohlberg s theory is impressive, it does not actually prove that
people went through all the stages in the same order that Kohlberg predicted they would. As these
participants were not monitored throughout every stage of their life we cannot be certain that they all
went through the same stages in the same order, all we can defer from this is that people seem to be at
the stages that Kohlberg predicted they would be at. However Ann Colby and Colleagues (1983) did
do a longitudinal study where they interviewed Kohlberg s original participants five times over three
to four year intervals, lasting for twenty years in total. The results of the study showed that all the
participants went through the stages in the same order, never skipping a stage. These findings offer
strong evidence to support Kohlberg s theory of moral development as, unlike the previous study
mentioned, there is now longitudinal evidence to support that these stages happen in the same order in
many people, and not just assuming that it happened like in Kohlberg s original study (Shaffer Kipp,
2007).
However, there are limits to how far Kohlberg s theory of morality can be taken. When doing the
research to develop his theory Kohlberg only interviewed male participants, completely ignoring the
possibility that females could have a different outlook on morality to males. Carol Gilligan (1982,
1993) recognised that this was an issue with

The Cherry Orchard By Anton Chekov
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have. As demonstrated by this quotation from
Vince Lombardi, a reflection of our worth derives from the effort we put forward. Stories of successful
citizens rising from the unknown to fame, or poverty to wealth shows the common man that if they
desire a similar outcome, there exists a possibility of attaining a higher social status. Occasionally, as
depicted in the play The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekov, instances where honest means to attain
fortune occasionally arise. By utilizing dialogue and direction, action, and images, he makes clear the
dishonest motives of the character Lopakhin, especially within the third act. In order to obtain a new
status within society, Lopakhin creates chaos in order to ensure his future differs from his past, while
controlling the destiny of those who indirectly oppressed him through the development of a motive
and acting on his personal desires with no regard for the people around him. Without an initial
conversation regarding development, there exists no possibility for change. David Ball, the author of
Backwards and Forwards: A Technical Manual for Reading Plays mentions, Talking is drama s most
common activity. (Ball 27) then proceeds to question the statement to continue his point by asking,
What is it about talking that connects it to recognizable human behavior? resulting in his answer of A
human being talks in order to get what he or she wants. (27). Within a play,

Duckweed Research Paper
Duckweed is a simple, small aquatic flowering plant that grows in colonies, which form dense
coverings on water surfaces. They are one of the most vigorously growing plants on Earth. There are
many types of duckweed, but throughout this experiment the Lemna trisulca type of duckweed was
used. Each leaf of the duckweed plant is called a frond and a colony is called a Microcosm. The fronds
are a vibrant, green color when they are living, but they are white when they are dead. Duckweed is an
important plant because it grows rapidly in ideal conditions. It floats on water surfaces, making it easy
to harvest. In addition, the tissue is soft so it can be processed simply. It could be used as a food
source for animals in the future, as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data collected shows that over time, the duckweed will die if it is placed in soap water. The
duckweed growth decreases by a small amount in D.I. water, as well. Both the number of fronds and
the total frond area decreases or falls to zero after a period of time, when duckweed is grown in soap
contaminated water. Overall, the frond number and total frond area for duckweed grown in D.I. water
falls slightly. This data supports the alternative hypothesis that if the duckweed is placed in water
contaminated with soap, then the growth and number of duckweed fronds will decrease. This decrease
in growth from contamination occurs because duckweed needs the proper nutrients to grow and
prosper. In addition, duckweed will die in soap contaminated water because it is not adept to grow in
such conditions. The duckweed grew slowly or not at all in the D.I. water because they may not have
received enough sunlight over the time period. The window may not have let the necessary amounts of
light in for the plants to survive. Another reason for the decrease in growth of the duckweed in D.I.
water could be that the initial colonies were not strong enough to survive on their own. They may have
been damaged before they were placed into the

Essay on Justice in A View from the Bridge
Justice in A View from the Bridge
Arthur Miller is now regarded as one of the world s greatest dramatists. In his plays he explores the
struggles of the ordinary man against authority and insurmountable odds.
Miller s own struggle therefore with this issue is present in A View from the Bridge as he, like the
characters in his plays (such as
Eddie Carbone), was faced with the problem of choosing to be American or not, specifically by
naming names of people who were doing (what were considered then) unlawful acts. Miller chose to
write about a community that accepted and protected unlawful people.
Miller spent two years in the shipyards of Brooklyn and was thus able to study the social background

Although
Alfieri knows what will happen to Eddie, his function in the play makes him so powerless to stop it .
His function doesn t allow him to do more than observe.
Alfieri
establishes that justice and the law are going to be important in the play in his opening speech. He sets
the story that he is going to tell us in the context of history, both ancient and modern. In Sicily, from
where their fathers came, the law has not been a friendly idea since the Greeks were beaten. I only
came here when I was twenty five.
In those days, Al Capone, the greatest Carthaginian of all, was learning his trade on these pavements,
and Frankie Yale himself was cut precisely in half by a machine gun on the corner of Union Street,
two blocks away.
The fact that Alfieri goes on to state that lawyers in ancient times, as well as he in modern times, were
unable to prevent a complaint running a bloody course causes us to question the power and influence
of the law. In other words, although justice is very important, often the law as it stands is incapable of
delivering justice. Alfieri believes that it is best to settle for half : it is better to rely on written law as
far as possible and accept it even when you are only half satisfied. The written law may not always act
in favour of justice yet it is better to follow the law than to

The Foils of Hamlet vs. My Life Experiences
In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, there are characters here that are obvious foils for
Hamlet. These foils have caused Hamlet a fortune. The young prince has to deal with the death of his
father and his mother s incestuous behavior and also his uncle s corruption. Hamlet is a man who is
driven by his deceased father, the king, to avenge his death and kill his uncle. But Hamlet seems to be
indecisive about it, probably because he does not want to kill his uncle, Claudius, or because he is
schemed against by various characters, who do not want him to succeed. These foils have caused

Addiction is a Neurological Disorder Essay
Addiction: It s A Neurological Disorder
Addiction is a neurologically based disease. For many years recovery specialists have compared
alcoholism or addictions to a physical disease: like diabetes. In reality addictions are more closely
related to a neurological disorder like Tourette s Syndrome* than they are to diabetes.
If the problems you suffer stem from severe alcoholism or addiction, you must accept that these
problems are not primarily mental or free will issues. Addictions are not about will power. The
problems facing addicts, alcoholics, and their families are miserable, disgusting, and infuriating. They
are often hopelessly discouraging. But to imagine that an addict could change if he wanted to is a

Example of a Nerve Pathway
It is difficult for people to grasp the meaning of a nerve pathway, or why this is related to addiction.
Often when people hear a new idea like: an addictive impulse is the result of a nerve impulse they are
left unsympathetic. Addicts and non addicts alike have a hard time believing that drug or alcohol use
is anything more than a choice that is made in response to a habit. Deep down inside, most people
believe that at it s root the behavior is always a choice. They are very, very wrong. This author was
stuck in addiction for over a decade, so completely was he convinced that the mind was an immaterial
spiritual power and that to call alcoholism or addiction a disease was a cop out for the weak willed.
This author believed that each and every time free choice was at the root of addictive behavior. Until
one day, in another recovery facility the author stumbled upon the concept of neuro pathways by
reading a book called The Training of the Will by a Jesuit priest. That book was written in the early
1900 s. Even then, the Jesuits knew that the root of almost all behavior was based not in free will but
in neurological wiring. For the Jesuits, training the will essentially consists in training the body. After
reading that book, this author began to understand that while his mind his intellect was indeed an
immaterial power, the overwhelming cravings for drugs or alcohol were based in

Anatomy Of The Pulmonary, Coronaries And Veins
Anatomy Of The pulmonary, Coronaries and aorta arteries
Gross anatomy
The heart and great vessels are roughly in the middle of the thorax, being surrounded laterally and
posteriorly by the lungs and anteriorly by the sternum and the central part of the thoracic cage. The
heart acts a twofold, self modifying suction and pressure pump, the parts of which work in union to
push blood to all parts of the body. The right half of the heart (right heart) gets ineffectively
oxygenated (venous) blood from the body via the SVC and IVC and pumps it through the pulmonary
trunk to the lungs for oxygenation. The left half of the heart (left heart) gets well oxygenated (arterial)
blood from the lungs via the pulmonary veins and pushes it into the aorta for circulation to the body
(Fig.1) (Moore and Dalley, 2006).
Fig.1. The heart and great vessels (Quoted from Shah, 2005)
I Anatomy of pulmonary arteries:
The lungs get blood by means of two sets of arteries: pulmonary arteries and bronchial arteries.
Deoxygenated blood goes through the pulmonary trunk which separates into a left pulmonary artery
that enters the left lung and a right pulmonary artery that enters the right lung. Return of the
oxygenated blood to the heart happens by method of the four pulmonary veins which deplete into the
left atrium (Tortora and Nielsen, 2012). The fundamental divisions of the trunk are the right and left
pulmonary arteries. The right pulmonary artery goes in front of the

Close family ties are an important bond for each member of the family. A guy who wants to date a girl
must ask for her parents permission. In case no permission is granted, it is highly unlikely for the date
to actually happen, unless in some cases that the girl and guy sneak out and date out secretly.
However, this is morally unacceptable in Philippine culture. Filipino parents are very strict with their
children having romantic relationships. Brothers are generally protective of their sisters. Even cousins
and other relatives are protective of their young female cousins and relatives. They become more
lenient when their daughters, sisters and relatives reach the legal age of 18. When picking up the girl
at her home for a date, it is common to provide gifts to the family members (parents, grandparents and
siblings) as well. Parents usually want to have some conversation with the guy and ask about his

officially a time to get to know each other. The couple ask about each other s backgrounds and it is
highly unlikely to have a passionate kiss after the date. Some girls allow a kiss on the cheek after the

Why Were The Loyalists In The Early Twentieth Century
The loyalists had a long tradition of mural painting, dating back to the early twentieth century in
which they would paint murals to celebrate the Twelfth of July, a day which commemorates the
Protestant victory over Catholics at the Battle of Boyne in 1690. Therefore, many of their murals
reflect not only their ideals but make figurative stabs at the nationalist and Catholic communities.
These types of murals remained mainly a holiday celebration until the 1980 s when nationalists,
frustrated at their own inability to legally create similar murals decided to step up and begin doing so
anyway, sparking rapid mural creation on both sides. The republican mural tradition got a slow start
for several reasons. Not only did they lack the cultural celebratory reasons for creating them that the
loyalists had, there were also economic factors at play. A simple ... Show more content on

mythic contest between local chieftains in which the winner cut off his own hand in order to win the
contest as well as to take control of disputed territory. For the loyalists, they used the symbol to show
that they would sacrifice whatever was necessary to retain control of the territory they saw as
rightfully theirs and to prevent rule by the republican Irish. Loyalists often also used the Union flag in
their mural designs in an effort to link their cause with overall British causes, eliciting sympathy and
support from other British people outside of Northern Ireland. Ultimately, loyalist murals tried to
portray themselves as heroic guardians of a fragile, but ultimately just, political system under constant
threat from the dangerous and violent terrorists of the republican

I was given unknown 18, after the gram stains and biological tests I concluded that unknown 18 is
Serratia marcescens. S. marcenscens is a rod shaped, motile, gram negative bacteria, it was first
isolated in 1819 by Italian pharmacist, Bizio. The S. marcenscens first isolated came from polenta that
was taking on an unusual bright red color. Initially S. marcenscens was believed to be nonpathogenic
and was commonly used as a biological marker because of its unique red color (Merlino, 1924). It was
not until the 1950 s that S. marcenscens was discovered to be pathogenic in humans (Wheat et al,

soil, gastrointestinal tracts of many animals, but grow particularly well on starchy food sources
(Petersen and Tisa, 2013). S. marcenscens when first isolated it was believed to be non pathogenic, but
S. marcenscens is responsible for nosocomial human infections, plant infections, insect and nematode

Conviction-Trusted Advisors
In the modern age of financial practice, securities salespeople no longer call themselves brokers or
registered representatives. They now go by names like financial consultant or investment specialist.
Many advisors continue to charge commissions and work in a mainly transaction based model, but
many have also converted to a fee based practice, charging management fees to oversee client assets.
Most financial advisors work for one of the major brokerage firms, banks, or insurance companies.
There is also a relatively small but growing contingent of independent advisors who are not affiliated
with any outside financial entity. Most of these advisors are either solo practitioners or small
partnerships of advisors working together. There are, of course, many medium to large sized

Trusted advisors understand that the most prudent course of action is not always the easiest one to
take. This is especially true with money and markets, where emotions can run high, often causing poor
decisions to be made. It is important to take the time to explain the pros and cons of various strategies,
and help a client understand which approach would be best for them. In contrast, a facilitator may
allow or even encourage a client to make decisions that might feel good in the short run but are
counterproductive long term. They might do this out of fear of losing business or a preference for
expediency. Facilitators generally do not bring discipline and rationality to the investment process,
which is a big part of the value of having an advisor. This is unfortunate because in emotional times
clients can benefit from hearing a rational and independent voice of

Mechanism Of The Electoral College
The electoral college is the mechanism established by the United States constitution for the indirect
election of the president of the United States and Vice president. The electoral college was created was
created because the founding fathers were afraid a tyrant could manipulate the system. Because a state
s electoral votes are equal to its representatives plus its two senators, and every state has two senators,
the electoral college gives excessive weight to states with small populations.
The Constitution assigns each state a number of electors that equals to the combined total of the state s
Senate and House of Representatives. The number of electoral votes per state is equal to the number of
its senators plus the number of its individuals

Gender Differences in TV
Malcolm in the Middle Television holds an important part in most of our lives. From a young age, we
spend countless hours sitting in front of a television set. Every year there are new shows created, and
our favorite shows are renewed for another season. There are numerous programs to choose from.
Television broadcasts are free, and there are also paid options for more diverse programming. We are
fortunate enough to be able to spend on average a third of our leisure time watching television all from
the comfort of our homes. Given the incredible reach that television has on our lives, we can say that
television has a significant impact on our lives. Authors, Renzetti and Curran, claim that television is a

As previously mentioned, Renzetti and Curran, make several claims about the kind of gendered
messages that we as a society receive via our favorite television shows. I selected three other claims to
see whether or not they held true for Malcolm in the Middle. The first claim is that female characters
are more likely than men to use sex or romantic charm to get what they want. Men, in contrast, are
more likely than women to use physical force. I recorded each instance of use or threat of physical
force and whether it was a man or woman who did so. Each instance of sex or romantic charm was
also recorded according to which sex used that technique. Another claim was only 28% of women are
shown on the job compared to 41% of male characters. I kept a tally of characters that were shown on
the job or made any reference to their jobs. The last claim I chose to analyze was that men on
television are rarely shown doing housework (one to three percent compared to twenty to twenty
seven percent of women). I kept a tally of each instance that a household chore was done and whether
it was a man or woman who took care of the task. The first claim that I analyzed was that women are
more likely to use charm and men are more likely to use physical force held true according to my
sample. There were three instances of using charm. Hal, the father, did so once. Lois, the mother, did
so the other two times. The second

I will begin by confessing that I am a word nerd. Unfortunately, I cannot read biblical Hebrew or
Aramaic, so I ve often relied on pastors, authors, or bible commentaries to reveal to me the
significance/hidden meaning of certain passages of scripture. Oftentimes, when viewed in context the
meaning of a word or phrase can take on an entirely different connotation. My absolute favorite aspect
of this bible is the way words and phrases are dissected, broken down into little bite sized pieces, in
the notes. Thereby, describing how a word is being used (part of speech), how it was used in a similar
way elsewhere in scripture, and/or how it is defined in context.

Population Health Planning Is Based On The Social Model Of...
Intro
Population health planning is based on the social model of health, aiming to improve the health of
entire populations and reduce inequities, recognising that environmental, economic, social, cultural
and behavioural factors contribute to health and wellbeing. Identifying causes of poor health is
critical, as addressing these causes is the main method of improving population health outcomes. As
the range of possible causative factors is vast, and are often interdependent, population health
planning cannot be the responsibility of only a single sector, local government or organisation.
Effective planning utilises partnerships between communities, private and not for profit sectors and
governments. Investments are made in areas with greatest potential for positive population health
change. The basic notion is that actions taken earlier in causal streams yield greater population health
gains. (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2013)

Discussion of Key Issues
The population health approach has been criticised as assuming health is absence of illness, as
opposed to the WHO definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well being
and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity . This definition of health recognises the
environmental context surrounding an individual, placing greater emphasis on conditions that create
wellbeing as opposed to a biomedical view that focuses on single diseases, and in a sense is seen as
more efficient and

Caribbean Sea Abiotic Factors
The Caribbean Sea in located off the coast of North, Central, and South Americas. This sea spans
about two million, seven hundred and fifty three thousand square kilometers. There are also many
islands found in the midst of the Caribbean Sea. While these islands are a great place for a vacation,
the populations of people on the islands can affect life. Many different factors influence life in the
Caribbean Sea. These factors are divided into two categories; abiotic factors and biotic factors. These
types of factors can influence biodiversity in a certain area. A change in a single population results in a
huge change in an ecosystem that was previously well balanced and diverse. Populations change in
size all as a result of these factors.
Abiotic factors, such as rainfall and temperature, are different from place to place. In the Caribbean,
the abiotic factors vary from water current to water depth, from the amount of sunlight to the oxygen
levels. The Caribbean Sea is large and there are many measuring points throughout the sea, this results
in different conclusions for the same question. Now, that being said, the results recorded in this paper
are strictly and average. The average amount of precipitation in the Caribbean per year is as low as
twenty five centimeters in some parts to as high as nine hundred centimeters in other parts, that just
goes to show how big the Caribbean really is. That being said, the deepest measured part of the

Examples Of Self Destruction In Macbeth
In life people seek prosperity. Humans have been trained to always want more, never satisfied with
what they have. Whether someone does everything in their power to achieve a promotion, or someone
tries to become rich. The previous example shows selfishness and that people will do whatever it takes
to achieve these goals, whether an asset to society, or a downfall. In the Renaissance tragedy,
Macbeth, Shakespeare reveals how people s greediness and feeling entitlement to prosperity causes
their own self destruction. Greed, the selfish desire for something that causes people to perform acts
that they may have thought they were not capable of, which can change somebody s entire outlook on

can cause people to hallucinate and see things that aren t really there. Shall never tremble. Or be alive

Hence, horrible shadow! Unreal mockery, hence! Macbeth began seeing ghosts, which was one of the
first signs of his self destruction. Shakespeare shows that this is part of the slow decent into insanity.
Once this has started it is very hard to stop. A slow and painful process, especially if being watched

human nature/behavior, he gives examples on how New York began improving after taking it into
consideration. Specifically, this talks about the smallest details of the immediate environment which
ultimately ends up describing the theory to be quite a radical idea. Gladwell mentions that it appears to
violate some of our most deeply held assumptions about human nature, but what does he mean when

Goetz was described of having psychological issues therefore being somewhat mentally ill or at least
not right in the mind and/or emotionally. As stated in page 156,
Psychiatrists talk about criminals as people with stunted psychological development, people who have
had pathological relationships with their parents, who lack adequate role models. There is a relatively
new literature that talks about genes that may or may not dispose certain individuals to crime. On the
popular side, there are endless numbers of books by conservatives talking about crime as a
consequence of moral failure of communities and schools and parents who no longer raise children
with a respect for right and wrong. All of those theories are essentially ways of saying that the
criminal is a personality type a personality type distinguished by an insensitivity to the norms of
normal society. People with stunted psychological development don t understand how to conduct
healthy relationships. People with genetic predispositions to violence fly off the handle when normal
people keep their cool. People who aren t taught right from wrong are oblivious to what is and what is
not appropriate behavior. People who grow up poor, fatherless, and buffeted by racism don t have the
same commitment to social norms as those from healthy middle class homes. Bernie Goetz and those

Oil Drilling Endangers Arctic National Wildlife Riches
Oil Drilling Endangers Arctic National Wildlife Riches Can you imagine the grocery stores and

Alaska, has affected 95,000 square miles of wildlife s habitat. The development of oil industry takes
away what is essential to the lives of the Gwich in: the Caribou. Gwich in villages rely on caribou to
supply their food and clothes. As the oil industry develops in a close proximity to the Gwich in
village, caribou do not go near the area anymore. The villagers can hardly find any caribou now. In her
book Silent Spring, Rachel Carson questions how powerful agents, like the oil industry, can have such
a devastating impact on others: [t]he decision is that of the authoritarian temporarily entrusted with
power; he has made it during a moment of inattention by millions to whom beauty and the ordered
world of nature still have a meaning that is deep and imperative (Carson, 376). We human beings
carry the responsibility of ensuring harmony amongst the living organisms inhabiting all of this planet.
We need to ensure that our ecosystem is protected. In order to prevent further damage to habitats and
extinction of species, we should stop developing oil drill in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)

The History And Political Causes Of The Cold War
The Cold War refers to an era of U.S. history from roughly 1945 to 1990. Although the U.S.S.R. and
the U.S. fought ideological proxy wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, this era is referred to as
the Cold War because the United States and Soviet Union never actually engaged in war themselves.
The origins of the Cold War can be traced back to the finale of World War II. Beginning with the Yalta
Conference, the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, United States, and Great Britain started a
discussion concerning post war foreign policies. Specifically, the political system of Poland became an
important question for the Big Three . Should Poland be allowed to form a democratically elected
government, or should Russia be allowed to occupy Poland and further expand their communist
influence? Essentially, this question and many like it characterized the motivation for the Cold War.
The United States sought to contain communism while the Soviet Union pushed for both land
expansion and political influence across the globe. (CITE) Harry Truman took the office of President
just a few months before the end of World War II. Truman inherited a plethora of dilemmas heading
into the post War World II era, and he decided to take his stance on international affairs in 1947 with
the Truman Doctrine. Essentially, the Truman Doctrine promised that America would personally
intervene in order to insure that democracy would remain secure in foreign governments. This was a
stark contrast from the popular isolationist paradigm of the 20s and 30s. Furthermore, the Truman
Doctrine prompted an unusual act of international involvement when Congress agreed to aid Greek
and Turkish militaries in an effort to counter communist influence in these regions. Additionally,
Truman s handling of the Korean War is another example of his firm stance of containment. Truman
made no qualms about aiding the indigenous troops of South Korea with weapons and troops, but he
did openly reject the notion of meeting either China or the Soviet Union in an open land battle.
Furthermore, Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur based on the general s strong notion to invade
China and reluctance to respect the President s authority. Truman s decisions

The Era Of America After The Antebellum Period
It is believed that the beginning of a task is often the most important as well as the most difficult,
because it consists of discovering the basis to success with a greater chance of failure. The
establishment of America after gaining independence from Great Britain relied heavily on the
foundations set during the antebellum period, which is often classified as the period of time before the
civil war. During such vital time in American history came a number of fundamental Supreme Court
cases. The outcome of various cases significantly shaped the future of America into the country we
know today. Perhaps some of the most important cases include Marbury v. Madison, Gibbons v.
Ogden, and Dred Scott v. Sandford. McCulloch v. Maryland is possibly the most prominent Supreme
Court case throughout the antebellum period that occurred in 1819, even though different
interpretations of the Necessary and Proper Clause have led to many controversies regarding its
meaning and the potential supreme authority of congress, this landmark case established that the
federal government has certain implied powers under the constitution. Primarily, individuals who
supported the National Bank argued that the bank was essential in regulating the money distributed by
state banks. However, many states wanted nothing concerning the National Bank in their precincts in
fear of state banks being rundown. Citizens that opposed claimed that Congress did not have the
power to establish a National Bank and

Resting Potential Research Paper
The resting potential of a membrane is when it is negatively charged due to the movement of the
positive ions out of the cell. More of the potassium ions diffuse out of specialized gated channels of
the nerve cell than the number of sodium ions that diffuse into it. In addition to this movement of ions,
active transport of ions occurs due to the Na+/K+ pump which moves or pumps out the respective
Na+ and K+ ions at a ratio of 3:2. Because the axon loses a greater number of positive ions than it
gains, the inside of its membrane is negative in relation to the outside. The unequal concentration of
positive ions across the nerve cell membrane gives rise to the negative resting potential. Polarization is
the charge of the resting membrane which is polarized due to the concentration gradient created by the
higher number of potassium ions inside than the sodium ions outside. At rest, the potential ... Show

When an axon becomes stimulated a rapid change occurs in the electrical potential difference across
the nerve cell membrane, and registers at +40mV. The cell membrane becomes more permeable to
sodium than potassium. The gates of the sodium channel open and the gates of the potassium channel
close. Sodium ions rush into the nerve cell because of the electrochemical gradient. The rapid influx of
sodium ions causes a charge reversal known as depolarization. Once the inside becomes positive the
sodium influx is stopped and its gates close. As soon as the inside of the cell becomes positive, the
sodium potassium pump in the cell membrane starts up again to pull potassium in and push sodium
out. The process of restoring the original polarity of the nerve membrane is called repolarization.
Nerves can t be activated again until the repolarization process is complete and usually lasts 1 to 10

The Conformity Of Individuality In Henry David Twain s...
A nation is only as good as the people who comprise it. In regards to the United States, tragedy
permeates the nation when its citizens decide to conform to the standards imposed by the majority. As
a multitude of Americans alter themselves to fit in and be accepted, their individuality floats away into
the abyss. Nevertheless, the process of conforming may not always be such a bad thing. Conforming
gives Americans the ability to connect to species that holds immense value. A species greater than
anything they could have ever became while isolated. Now, although humans unconsciously conform
to the standards of others, this process of conforming is detrimental to all Americans as it diminishes a
person s self identity along with their true life s purpose. Every standard and regulation an American
abides by is influenced by their fellow citizens. The basic human nature of a person propels them to
conform to the lifestyle of others. This concept is present within Henry David Thoreau s Civil
Disobedience in which he explains that even the most successfully men can be imposed on [...] for
their own advantage. Thoreau implies that when a person is exposed to others of high authority or
legitimacy, they develop the desire to act like and feel acceptance from said persons. As Mark Twain
illustrates in his essay Corn pone Opinions , people base their standards of ideals on a matter of
association and sympathy, not reasoning and examination. Thus as humans rely heavily on

The Army Design Methodology ( Adm )
At the close of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the US military ended with varied to questionable results.
This is because US policymakers and military leaders did not adjust to the emergence of new
conditions due to their dependence on medium structure problem framing. The Army Design
Methodology (ADM) is a tool military organizations should use in adaptive environments to develop
solutions for complex problems. To understand why the ADM is a critical tool for military
organizations, military professionals need to understand the impacts of ill structured problems on
planning and execution and the potential influence the ADM will have on their organization. Once
military professionals understand the influence the ADM has on ill structured problems, they can
begin to consider how to integrate the ADM into planning. Despite the enduring nature of ill
structured problems throughout history, the US military consistently focuses on well and medium
structured problems. The US military s focus on well and medium structured problems is a point of
friction because there are several differences between well/medium structured problems and ill
structured problems. The most important difference is that ill structured problems lack proportionality
for inputs, replication over time, additively of its parts, and demonstrability of cause and effect.
Because there are a vast number of interactive and interdependent elements, ill structured problems
garner a great deal of uncertainty. As a result,

Examples Of Satire In The Butter Battle Book
Satire of The Butter Battle Book.
Dr. Seuss, an amazing writer who showed the world of satire and literature to all ages. Books such as
The Lorax, The Foot book and The Butter Battle Book are perfect examples of that. Seuss, a man
known for his creative vision and use of words, made these books a satire gold mine! We already
know about his rhymes but Seuss was also extremely good at using exaggeration. Don t forget his
amazing use of onomatopoeias or his profound use of repetition. I could go on forever but the fact is
Dr Seuss and his creative mind has an amazing talent for using satire to make his books come to life.
To make his books stick around for so long and to open the minds of his reader to the world of satire
and the amazing world of literature.
This creative talent is most clearly shown by the uses of exaggeration all throughout the book The
Butter Battle. Whether it s the fact that these two races are fighting over what side they butter their
bread. Or the fact that each side believes one is worse because of that fact. No matter where you look
in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So you cant trust a Zook who
spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This
quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that no one would have kinks in their
soul because of how they butter their bread. Or that every Zook has to be watched! Another great
example would be the line, I ll blow you up he yelled, into pork and wee beans (Seuss). Now we all
know that you cant blow someone up into pork and wee beans! It s just physically impossible but that
doesn t stop Dr. Seuss from using it and using it effectively. To sum this all up, it s very easy to see
that exaggeration is just one of the few pieces of satire Dr. Seuss uses. But it is used extremely
effective and makes the reader more interested and gives them a few laughs in the process!
In addition to exaggeration, Seuss has an incredible knack for using repetition that makes the reader

The Concepts Of Contractionism By John Rawls And Political...
Abstract art steps back from reality to witness a world separate from the human experience. This
departure allows people to project their own meaning onto the piece. They all come from varying

  • 2. Government Interventions are Failing Introduction Around the world, governments, mostly intervenes in the market in order to accomplish their policy objectives. The government s policy objectives or goals could be related to economics, ranging from stabilization of prices, export promoting, encourage equal distributions for income and commodity protection. The examples as per above proves that government intervention is not only limited to economic effects but also influences the society. There are two (2) types of usual regulated government interventions, which are automatic and discretionary. Automatic can be defined as intervention which is based on rules and regulations. On the other side, government interventions which are discretionary mostly targets stopping, suspension or limitation of a certain contract market. An early review of government market interventions shows that discretionary based interventions usually fails in accomplishing targeted policy objective compared to interventions based on rules as the latter proves to be more successful in a market economy. Government Intervention in the Markets Some of the reasons which cause government interventions are in order to overcome market failure, to accomplish an equal distribution ... • 3. The New Arts Education Plan With the upcoming addition of our middle school we will be developing a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade arts program consistent with the frameworks of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme requires visual and performing arts for all students and demands much more of students and teachers than our more traditional elementary arts program. We hope to provide an arts rich school community to all our students. The new arts education plan would continue our focus on developing knowledge about art forms in various contexts, developing the language of art, and learning how to respond to and evaluate art. Within this new arts education plan we also hope to offer a more diverse range of art materials to our students such as ceramics, sculpture, pottery, weaving, metalworking, and stained glass. These new materials would allow our students opportunities to create higher level art, be exposed to portions of art history that are often forgotten, and work in new ways that were once limited by only creating 2D art. We hope to create this new arts education plan for our new middle school while maintaining a strong elementary arts education program. Drama, music, and visual arts are important parts of our students week. These courses allow our students to learn life skills such as respect, communication, perseverance, problem solving, accountability, and collaboration, while reinforcing and integrating critical ... Tim Burton Cinematic Techniques Essay Tim Burton, known for his movies that appeal to all ages with dark and mysterious twists such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, and many others. Such as in one of Burton s films, Big Fish, a high angle is used when the townsfolk are at the town hall about the giant problem high angle is used to show how far the crowd of people go and gives the audience an estimate of how many people are at the town meeting. This technique used in this scene makes the audience wonder if the giant situation is really that big of a deal. One other film this technique is used is the film, Edward Scissorhands. In one scene towards the end of the film, Edward pushes Jim through a window from the top floor in Edward s castle. The camera stays on the top floor where the window used to be and looks down at Jim who is dead on the ground. This provides an estimated drop for how far Jim fell for the audience and makes thinks to themselves not to mess with Edward. Another example film is the movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In the same scene when the candy room is presented, high angle is also used. After the shot is established, longshot is used to zoom out and see the entire room. But, without that high angle you don t see the chocolate waterfall or the bridge connecting the two shores of the chocolate river. You just see the ground and whatever is on the ground. Kohlberg s Theory Of The Development Of Moral Judgement Critically Evaluate Kohlberg s Theory of the Development of Moral Judgement Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) on moral development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a critical manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of situations he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial findings of sex differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral development by interviewing 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral issues. Although the universal support for Kohlberg s theory is impressive, it does not actually prove that people went through all the stages in the same order that Kohlberg predicted they would. As these participants were not monitored throughout every stage of their life we cannot be certain that they all went through the same stages in the same order, all we can defer from this is that people seem to be at the stages that Kohlberg predicted they would be at. However Ann Colby and Colleagues (1983) did do a longitudinal study where they interviewed Kohlberg s original participants five times over three to four year intervals, lasting for twenty years in total. The results of the study showed that all the participants went through the stages in the same order, never skipping a stage. These findings offer strong evidence to support Kohlberg s theory of moral development as, unlike the previous study mentioned, there is now longitudinal evidence to support that these stages happen in the same order in many people, and not just assuming that it happened like in Kohlberg s original study (Shaffer Kipp, 2007). However, there are limits to how far Kohlberg s theory of morality can be taken. When doing the research to develop his theory Kohlberg only interviewed male participants, completely ignoring the possibility that females could have a different outlook on morality to males. • 9. The Cherry Orchard By Anton Chekov The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have. As demonstrated by this quotation from Vince Lombardi, a reflection of our worth derives from the effort we put forward. Stories of successful citizens rising from the unknown to fame, or poverty to wealth shows the common man that if they desire a similar outcome, there exists a possibility of attaining a higher social status. Occasionally, as depicted in the play The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekov, instances where honest means to attain fortune occasionally arise. By utilizing dialogue and direction, action, and images, he makes clear the dishonest motives of the character Lopakhin, especially within the third act. In order to obtain a new status within society, Lopakhin creates chaos in order to ensure his future differs from his past, while controlling the destiny of those who indirectly oppressed him through the development of a motive and acting on his personal desires with no regard for the people around him. Without an initial conversation regarding development, there exists no possibility for change. David Ball, the author of Backwards and Forwards: A Technical Manual for Reading Plays mentions, Talking is drama s most common activity. Both the number of fronds and the total frond area decreases or falls to zero after a period of time, when duckweed is grown in soap contaminated water. Overall, the frond number and total frond area for duckweed grown in D.I. water falls slightly. This data supports the alternative hypothesis that if the duckweed is placed in water contaminated with soap, then the growth and number of duckweed fronds will decrease. This decrease in growth from contamination occurs because duckweed needs the proper nutrients to grow and prosper. In addition, duckweed will die in soap contaminated water because it is not adept to grow in such conditions. The duckweed grew slowly or not at all in the D.I. water because they may not have received enough sunlight over the time period. The window may not have let the necessary amounts of light in for the plants to survive. Although Alfieri knows what will happen to Eddie, his function in the play makes him so powerless to stop it . His function doesn t allow him to do more than observe. Alfieri establishes that justice and the law are going to be important in the play in his opening speech. He sets the story that he is going to tell us in the context of history, both ancient and modern. In Sicily, from where their fathers came, the law has not been a friendly idea since the Greeks were beaten. I only came here when I was twenty five. In those days, Al Capone, the greatest Carthaginian of all, was learning his trade on these pavements, and Frankie Yale himself was cut precisely in half by a machine gun on the corner of Union Street, two blocks away. The fact that Alfieri goes on to state that lawyers in ancient times, as well as he in modern times, were unable to prevent a complaint running a bloody course causes us to question the power and influence of the law. In other words, although justice is very important, often the law as it stands is incapable of delivering justice. Alfieri believes that it is best to settle for half : it is better to rely on written law as far as possible and accept it even when you are only half satisfied. Therefore, many of their murals reflect not only their ideals but make figurative stabs at the nationalist and Catholic communities. These types of murals remained mainly a holiday celebration until the 1980 s when nationalists, frustrated at their own inability to legally create similar murals decided to step up and begin doing so anyway, sparking rapid mural creation on both sides. Oftentimes, when viewed in context the meaning of a word or phrase can take on an entirely different connotation. My absolute favorite aspect of this bible is the way words and phrases are dissected, broken down into little bite sized pieces, in the notes. • 25. Population Health Planning Is Based On The Social Model Of... Intro Population health planning is based on the social model of health, aiming to improve the health of entire populations and reduce inequities, recognising that environmental, economic, social, cultural and behavioural factors contribute to health and wellbeing. Identifying causes of poor health is critical, as addressing these causes is the main method of improving population health outcomes. As the range of possible causative factors is vast, and are often interdependent, population health planning cannot be the responsibility of only a single sector, local government or organisation. Effective planning utilises partnerships between communities, private and not for profit sectors and governments. Investments are made in areas with greatest potential for positive population health change. The basic notion is that actions taken earlier in causal streams yield greater population health gains. (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2013) Method g Discussion of Key Issues The population health approach has been criticised as assuming health is absence of illness, as opposed to the WHO definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity . This definition of health recognises the environmental context surrounding an individual, placing greater emphasis on conditions that create wellbeing as opposed to a biomedical view that focuses on single diseases, and in a sense is seen as more efficient and ... This sea spans about two million, seven hundred and fifty three thousand square kilometers. There are also many islands found in the midst of the Caribbean Sea. While these islands are a great place for a vacation, the populations of people on the islands can affect life. Many different factors influence life in the Caribbean Sea. These factors are divided into two categories; abiotic factors and biotic factors. These types of factors can influence biodiversity in a certain area. A change in a single population results in a huge change in an ecosystem that was previously well balanced and diverse. Populations change in size all as a result of these factors. Abiotic factors, such as rainfall and temperature, are different from place to place. In the Caribbean, the abiotic factors vary from water current to water depth, from the amount of sunlight to the oxygen levels. The Caribbean Sea is large and there are many measuring points throughout the sea, this results in different conclusions for the same question. Now, that being said, the results recorded in this paper are strictly and average. The average amount of precipitation in the Caribbean per year is as low as twenty five centimeters in some parts to as high as nine hundred centimeters in other parts, that just goes to show how big the Caribbean really is. • 31. The History And Political Causes Of The Cold War The Cold War refers to an era of U.S. history from roughly 1945 to 1990. Although the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. fought ideological proxy wars in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan, this era is referred to as the Cold War because the United States and Soviet Union never actually engaged in war themselves. The origins of the Cold War can be traced back to the finale of World War II. Beginning with the Yalta Conference, the Allied powers of the Soviet Union, United States, and Great Britain started a discussion concerning post war foreign policies. Specifically, the political system of Poland became an important question for the Big Three . Should Poland be allowed to form a democratically elected government, or should Russia be allowed to occupy Poland and further expand their communist influence? Essentially, this question and many like it characterized the motivation for the Cold War. The United States sought to contain communism while the Soviet Union pushed for both land expansion and political influence across the globe. (CITE) Harry Truman took the office of President just a few months before the end of World War II. Truman inherited a plethora of dilemmas heading into the post War World II era, and he decided to take his stance on international affairs in 1947 with the Truman Doctrine. Essentially, the Truman Doctrine promised that America would personally intervene in order to insure that democracy would remain secure in foreign governments. This was a stark contrast from the popular isolationist paradigm of the 20s and 30s. Furthermore, the Truman Doctrine prompted an unusual act of international involvement when Congress agreed to aid Greek and Turkish militaries in an effort to counter communist influence in these regions. Additionally, Truman s handling of the Korean War is another example of his firm stance of containment. Truman made no qualms about aiding the indigenous troops of South Korea with weapons and troops, but he did openly reject the notion of meeting either China or the Soviet Union in an open land battle. Furthermore, Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur based on the general s strong notion to invade China and reluctance to respect the President s authority. Truman s decisions ... The Era Of America After The Antebellum Period It is believed that the beginning of a task is often the most important as well as the most difficult, because it consists of discovering the basis to success with a greater chance of failure. The establishment of America after gaining independence from Great Britain relied heavily on the foundations set during the antebellum period, which is often classified as the period of time before the civil war. During such vital time in American history came a number of fundamental Supreme Court cases. The outcome of various cases significantly shaped the future of America into the country we know today. Perhaps some of the most important cases include Marbury v. Madison, Gibbons v. Ogden, and Dred Scott v. Sandford. McCulloch v. Maryland is possibly the most prominent Supreme Court case throughout the antebellum period that occurred in 1819, even though different interpretations of the Necessary and Proper Clause have led to many controversies regarding its meaning and the potential supreme authority of congress, this landmark case established that the federal government has certain implied powers under the constitution. Primarily, individuals who supported the National Bank argued that the bank was essential in regulating the money distributed by state banks. However, many states wanted nothing concerning the National Bank in their precincts in fear of state banks being rundown. • 33. Resting Potential Research Paper The resting potential of a membrane is when it is negatively charged due to the movement of the positive ions out of the cell. More of the potassium ions diffuse out of specialized gated channels of the nerve cell than the number of sodium ions that diffuse into it. In addition to this movement of ions, active transport of ions occurs due to the Na+/K+ pump which moves or pumps out the respective Na+ and K+ ions at a ratio of 3:2. Because the axon loses a greater number of positive ions than it gains, the inside of its membrane is negative in relation to the outside. The unequal concentration of positive ions across the nerve cell membrane gives rise to the negative resting potential. Polarization is the charge of the resting membrane which is polarized due to the concentration gradient created by the higher number of potassium ions inside than the sodium ions outside. At rest, the potential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When an axon becomes stimulated a rapid change occurs in the electrical potential difference across the nerve cell membrane, and registers at +40mV. The cell membrane becomes more permeable to sodium than potassium. The gates of the sodium channel open and the gates of the potassium channel close. Sodium ions rush into the nerve cell because of the electrochemical gradient. The rapid influx of sodium ions causes a charge reversal known as depolarization. Once the inside becomes positive the sodium influx is stopped and its gates close. As soon as the inside of the cell becomes positive, the sodium potassium pump in the cell membrane starts up again to pull potassium in and push sodium out. The process of restoring the original polarity of the nerve membrane is called repolarization. In regards to the United States, tragedy permeates the nation when its citizens decide to conform to the standards imposed by the majority. As a multitude of Americans alter themselves to fit in and be accepted, their individuality floats away into the abyss. Nevertheless, the process of conforming may not always be such a bad thing. Conforming gives Americans the ability to connect to species that holds immense value. A species greater than anything they could have ever became while isolated. Now, although humans unconsciously conform to the standards of others, this process of conforming is detrimental to all Americans as it diminishes a person s self identity along with their true life s purpose. Every standard and regulation an American abides by is influenced by their fellow citizens. The basic human nature of a person propels them to conform to the lifestyle of others. Despite the enduring nature of ill structured problems throughout history, the US military consistently focuses on well and medium structured problems. The US military s focus on well and medium structured problems is a point of friction because there are several differences between well/medium structured problems and ill structured problems. The most important difference is that ill structured problems lack proportionality for inputs, replication over time, additively of its parts, and demonstrability of cause and effect. No matter where you look in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So you cant trust a Zook who spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that no one would have kinks in their soul because of how they butter their bread. This departure allows people to project their own meaning onto the piece. They all come from varying backgrounds so their understandings of the art are all radically different. John Rawls attempts to apply the same concepts of abstractionism into political philosophy to arrive at a set universal rules and values. However, Rawls ultimately fails, giving rise to an either too limited or too vague theory of justice. Rawls is not clear on how to access morality, who his theory applies to, and whether or not his theory functions in reality. Rawls acts to expand on the social contract making it more applicable to the needs of the least advantaged. One of political philosophy s goals is for the government to find some underlying basis of philosophical and moral agreement such that the citizens agree on its authority . He postulates the current system of government, utilitarianism, is deeply flawed, because it allows for the continued suffering of the most vulnerable in society as long as the majority benefits . Instead Rawls proposes the veil of ignorance take its place.
