Starbucks Case Study Report
Starbucks: The Coffee Shop Company
Darrell Jones, Earnest Workmen, Amanda Anguiano
Brenau University Starbucks: The Coffee Company
The Original Starbucks
This report is on the Starbucks coffee shop company. Starbucks was founded around 45 years ago in
1971. Its first store was located at 2000 Western Avenue in Seattle, Washington until 1976, when it
moved its operations to Pike Place Market, Elliott Bay, Seattle, Washington, U.S. where they began
selling espresso coffee in 1986. The three founders Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker
were former students of the University of San Francisco. Their plan was to sell high quality coffee
beans and roasting equipment. They did not know at the onset the company would become so
successful.
In 1987 Howard Schultz took the opportunity to purchase the company from the original owners. He
then set his goals on opening new outlets outside Seattle. By the year 1989, the popularity for
Starbucks increased and Schultz was under pressure to open more stores to cash in on the public
demand. Soon, Starbucks increased its stores to more than 135 outlets and was earning up to 72
million dollars. This was the same year Schultz placed Starbucks ... Show more content on

Schultz sold 12% of the company for 25 million to raise capital for doubling its stores in the next two
year. By 1996 they increased their stores to Tokyo, Japan. In 1998, Starbucks bought U.K. based
company Seattle Coffee Company for 83 million dollars, and moved into the U.K. market. They then
purchased Torrefzione Italia a Seattle s Best coffee for 72 million and opened up an additional 150
stores. In 2007, Starbucks opened its doors in Russia. Starbucks then purchased the Teavana Company
for 620 million dollars. This was Starbucks biggest acquisition to date. In 2013 they went worldwide
with the intentions of opening stores in South Asian and South American

The Culture Of America
The culture of America is marked by diversity and is constantly changing as a result of such diversity.
The question posed is, does the recent presidential election indicate a white, racist culture? The culture
of the U.S. has been, from its inception, white; our founding fathers were white. It has taken the U.S.
hundreds of years with many conflicts along the way, to start to give value to other cultures. Looking
back eight years ago to the election then; the approximate percentage of whites in the U.S. was 62.6%
(Wikipedia, 2017) and Obama was elected to presidency in 2008 and again in 2012. The ratio of white
Americans has not changed substantially and, if anything, has only decreased since then. In 2012, the
Census Bureau announced that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has only been three months since his inauguration, but rest assured, it will. History and culture go
hand in hand. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it Sir Winston Churchill. This
saying in history is to remember that the same mistakes are not made over and over again. America is
based on individuality and that makes a homogenous culture hard. Different beliefs, different cultures,
different ethnicities, that s what once made America great in it s infancy and will do so again.
Different beliefs are what weld us together to produce a culture not seen in the rest of the world. When
Obama was elected, what were cultural anthropologists surmising then? Did they project the end of
racial tensions between whites and blacks? Yes, they were predicting a more harmonious culture.
However, that s not what happened; research indicates that racial tensions increased throughout the
Presidency of Obama. Curious? If your contention is that the election of Trump will increase white
racial supremacy, then maybe you are correct. Having a black president sure did not ensure
harmonious racial interchanges. Culture will change, however, slowly. Culture, like Rome, was not
built in a day. Young African Americans saw a black man in office and maybe that influenced quite a
few children of color to try harder, to excel, to be something more than what society dictated to them
so far.

Religion In August Religion
Everyone views religion in their own unique way. Everyone s own unique upbringing and perspective
on life help shape their views on religion, and if it s important. In William Faulkner s novel Light in
August, the people in the fictional town of Jefferson Mississippi strictly uphold religion and use it to
create their social standard. The citizens of Jefferson Mississippi display the stereotypical southern
charm, and the various Christian symbols in the novel symbolize how much faith is a part of the life in
Jefferson. This feeling of openness and comfort in Jefferson turns superficial when the citizens are
forced to appeal to the conventional societal standards. The irony of the situation is the conventional
societal standards are contradictory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many righteous people in religion and a few good hearted people in the novel, but the
hypocrisy in religion is exposed in the chaos and cruelty that the citizens of Jefferson bring upon
individuals like Christmas. The harsh and unfair treatment of Christmas corrupts Christmas and limits
people in Jefferson from seeing Christmas intended divinity. The values professed by the religious
people of Jefferson, Mississippi do not align with their actions that abandon and separate others in
society. The hypocrisy demonstrated by the southern citizens of Jefferson show that the religious
standards and expectations that are set are impossible to achieve. The hefty goals, aspirations, and
standards that people thought humans could achieve in the romantic era are not able to be achieved
today. If humanity can no longer meet religion s standards or recognize a person who represents their
savior, what role does religion have in modern life

Explain The Arguments In Favor Of Substance Dualism
In philosophy, substance dualism is the idea that the mind and body are two distinct things. A
substance dualist believes that the behavior and characteristics of the mind could never be fully
explained by the empirical scientific laws that dictate the physical world, and because of this, the mind
and the body should be seen as distinct entities. This differs immensely from the ideas physicalist
have. Physicalist believe that all of the characteristics of the mind can be explained by observing the
behavior of the brain, and if physicalist fail to explain a characteristic of the mind with the knowledge
of biology, chemistry, physics and anatomy they currently have, they simply excuse these failures as
things that will eventually be explained by future scientific discoveries. Leibniz s law argument is one
of the most notable arguments in favor of substance dualism. Leibniz s law is a mathematical law
known as the indiscernibility of identicals. This law states that if two variables, x and y, are identical,
then the two variables must share all of the same characteristics. Therefore, if the variables have any
different characteristics, they are not identical. Descartes uses this law to argue in favor of substance
dualism by discussing different characteristics the mind and body have that they do not share.
Descartes claims that whereas the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A DFT STUDY OF METALLOID DOPED FULLERENES C19X (X = Si, B) INTERACTING WITH
L ALANINE
Abstract
The relative stability and possibility of electronic, magnetic, structural properties and NBO analysis of
doped fullerenes were examined based on density functional theory calculations. The bond angle and
exciton binding energy of doped fullerene interacting with L Alanine generated a more stable structure
compared to fullerene C20. The doped fullerene interacting with amino acid is discussed in terms of
bond length, bond angle, dipole moment, Energy gap, global reactivity descriptors, NBO and NMR
analysis. The dissociation energy (∆E) value of C19Si L Alanine is more stable compared to fullerene
C20 structure. These results show that Si doped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The molecular surface of doped fullerene can interact with amino acids or biomolecule to give strong
surface properties. The interacting metals lower the energy gap values which promote the interaction
of the compounds. The metal ion increases and chemical interactions are also increasing. Vibrational
frequencies have determined the minimum energy structure and not a transition state. Optimized
structure resulting from the position of the metal with respect to the doped fullerene cage ensures the
global minimum reactivity descriptors, Mulliken and NBO atomic charges. It suggests that the

Jesus Came As The Savior And The World, The Supreme Leader...
Jesus came as the Savior to Israel and the world, the supreme leader of Heaven. In the three and a half
years He ministered, He performed and accomplished astonishing feats. He preached life changing
sermons, and taught captivating parables that remain to test today s most educated scholars. He healed
hundreds of incurable diseases, provided food for thousands extraordinarily, calmed storms suddenly,
walked on water confidently, brought people back to life, and selected just a dozen men, eleven of
whom would go on to spend the rest of their lives fulfilling His mission. He selected hard working
people such as fishermen to be His apprentices, and helped and ate with regular people. He challenged
and condemned religious leaders, who resented and despised Him. He taught in Jerusalem, the cities
of Judea, out in the rural areas, in meadows, on mounds, and from boats in the water while multitudes
attended attentively from the shore. Jesus taught about a place, but not a place of this world. He never
had a family, owned a home, held an office, or even wrote a book. Though some would debate as
Christians we are children of God, He is seated at the gates of our eternal home in Heaven, sits at the
right hand of God, and played a major role and character in the bestselling book and greatest story
ever told. Many centuries have gone by and He still remains the focus and shining light for most of the
world. Jesus became and is the highest foundation of direction and motivation from one

Atheism Is Not A Religion, A Worldview Or A Belief System
There have been numerous debates between the religious and atheists, and all seem to end with the
same conclusion: neither side changed at all. Atheism is defined as the rejection of the God
hypothesis. Atheism is not a religion, a worldview or a belief system; they are just denying religious
claims that fail to provide evidence. Christians follow the teachings of Jesus Christ written in the
bible. They believe god created the earth in seven days and that he will soon send his son, Jesus to
earth to take the faithful to heaven. Deep analyzation of evolution, creationism, and the bible will
surely reveal the truth. Evolution, is basically decent with modification , this applies to microevolution
and macroevolution. (www.evolution.berkeley.edu) Evolution, when on a smaller scale is defined as
microevolution; an example would be the house sparrows. Depending on the location the sparrows
have different characteristics, some are larger and heavier to protect from the cold while others are
lighter to withstand heat. There is so much evidence for microevolution it s almost impossible to deny.
Microevolution is observable because of the short timespan required for it to take place. The
controversy begins when you get into macroevolution which is evolution on a much bigger scale.
Usually referring to a change in species, this cannot be observed because it takes longer than one
lifespan to detect. We are able to observe small modifications; it should be common sense that over

The Kebra Negast was originated in Ethiopia and Eritrea during the early days. The 14th century
version was introduced by an ancient South Semitic language written in Ge ez. Furthermore, the
language of the Kebra Nagast and other sacred scripture are the same Ge ez language used in the
religious services of the Ethiopian Church. In addition, Wallis Budge created the first English

Agile is adaptable or highly flexible meaning that is has short development cycles of the interactive
design process that gives the project flexibility to pivot when the need arises. You do not have to
deliver a full project which wastes time and resources on delivering a full project which could be
rejected by the customer. Customer has the ability and satisfaction over the development process since
Agile projects are closely coordinated with the customer so they have a strong impact over the
development project. There is immediate user feedback and interaction among the stakeholders and
emphasis on getting a shippable product into the hands of the user which reduces the risk of building
an application that nobody wants, with the constant interaction with each other and the customer you
increase the best features. With continuous quality assurance and attention to details the quality of the
product with TDD as each iteration leads to fewer bugs and a higher quality releases. Agile has a solid
foundation that leads to quicker, higher quality releases since the development is conducted in short

Health Disparities And Health Care For Minorities
Introduction
Racial bias in medicine leads to worse care for minorities is an article from U.S News world report on
the website http://health.usnews.com/health news/patient advice/articles/2016 02 11/racial bias in
medicine leads to worse care for minorities.
In this article, the experience of a medical doctor is used to shed light on the subject of racial bias/
discrimination in health care and how it is affecting health outcome of racial and ethnic minority. Race
or ethnic group is a major social factor that influences health in the U.S Braveman 387. Health
inequity is at the center stage of public health discussion. Understanding the upstream factors that
causes inequities and disparities can help to bridge the gap of inequality. Eliminating health disparity
will protect and improve the health of racial and ethnic minority population, which is consistent with
the principle of public health improving and protecting health of populations.
Concepts and analysis
The article is based on the experience of a Dr. Ron Wyatt, a reputable medical doctor/ patient safety
officer, who sought medical care in a hospital when he had a fever of 104 degrees. The hospital was
referred to as an award winning hospital. The article suggested that he received lackluster and
substandard care from racially biased medical personnel. Considering the events of that day, one can
only imagine the process of conferring award on individuals and institutions. His experience began

Mark Ryden was born in Medford Oregon. He received a BFA in 1987 from Art Center College of

from flea markets and op shops; endless amounts of toys, religious statues, dolls, antiques and many
items described only as obscure (including skeletons and anatomical figures) are his models, arranged
to be painted and recorded by the artist. Ryden also gains his inspiration, not only from art galleries

of his works pay homage to the great artists such as Bosch and Ingres, or the little girls in his works

history which again reflects a person s comfort with the known and familiar, and turns it into
something confronting by pulling it from its original context.
Common presence of Religious icons brings a whole new meaning to each painting as the watchful
eyes of a Roman classicist image of Jesus observe the image and the audience, indicating a judgment
on moral conduct or a reflection on people s own actions. Ryden s works are often a social
commentary (rather than attack or opinion) presented through the curious children s world, which is
both dreamlike and nightmarish.
His works are a challenge to modern and ‘mature thinking; when humanity used to connect through
myths and legends, now they believe through logic and fact. Unlike much of today s contemporary art,
Ryden s work is easily accessible for the audience by the familiar symbols of toys and religious icons,
contextualized into a surrealist and dreamlike world. The difference, however, is that Ryden
consciously makes the decisions of what is to be part of his artwork.
Another, of the more curious symbols in Ryden s work, is meat. Internal organs,

President Obama Delivered A Speech
On June 21st, 2010, Father s Day, President Barack Obama delivered a speech in Washington D.C.
addressing a crowd of his cabinet members, veterans, senators, and normal fathers. He aimed to give a
speech about promoting responsible fatherhood, but his speech went beyond that. He addressed the
crowd with a calm demeanor and a strong voice, and gave a speech on the importance of being a
present father and the many lasting negative effects that having an absent father can have on a child.
His heavy use of pathos, the appeal to emotion, gave the speech depth, and a reason for the crowd to
want to listen.
The main point of President Obama s Speech was that there are few things that a child benefits more
from than having both their parents, and especially their fathers present in their lives growing up.
There were five main points about his speech. One of the first points he mentions was the Father
Mentoring initiative. It is a government program that was created to help raise awareness about
responsible fatherhood. The program works to re engage absent fathers or fathers that are not sure how
to reintegrate themselves into their children s lives after they ve been absent for a long period of time.
President Obama explains that it is a scary choice to make but it is better for the children in the long
run.
The next main point of his speech is also a government initiative. The Fathering Re Entry Court is a
program designed to create job initiatives for ex offenders. It helps

The Five Generalizations Essay
Adrian Medina
Module 2
FIN400 Analyzing Financial Statements
CSU Global
Dr. Osman Masahudu
The five generalizations that I believe are from the findings in the case study The Dangerous Morality
of Managing Earnings go back to the code of ethics that the SEC has set in place. The first is Honest
and ethical conduct, (Gibson, C.H. 2011) which a lot of the managers showed that they were not
honest by doing what they felt necessary to show a positive bottom line. The second generalization is
the full, fair, accurate, timely, and understandable disclosure in reports and documents that a company
files, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). By doing whatever it takes to try and improve the short term the managers
are not truly being truthful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethical decision making is deeply rooted in cultural values. Cultural norms concerning what is right
and wrong, acceptable and unacceptable, good and bad , and important and unimportant shape one s
beliefs regarding the world around us, including the business environment, (Geiger, M.A., Quirvan, C.
Hazera, A. 2007). Management s ability to manage the earnings in the long run is that they will not
have any earnings in the long run if the type of manipulation that is going keeps occurring. The quote
from one of the examples, On accounting manipulations, a profit center controller reported:
Accounting is grey. Very little is absolute...You can save your company by doing things with sales and
expenses, and, if it s legal, then you are justified in doing it, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). This speaks volumes
that these type of people don t care about the true bottom line all they care about is finding a way to
manipulate it. In the long term you will effect everything what you do in the short term. The other
example would be the following: Last year we called our customers and asked if they could take early
delivery. We generated an extra $300,000 in sales at the last minute. We were scratching for
everything. We made our plans, but we cleaned out our backlog and started in the hole this year. We
missed our first quarter sales plan. Will catch up by the end of the second quarter, (Gibson, C.H.
2011). This shows that if you change that

Critically Assess the Pluralist and Marxist Views of the...
Whilst pluralism and Marxism are said to have developed from liberalism and socialism respectively
(through criticising or expanding on those ideologies) thereby both appearing on the left of the left
right economic scale, a great part of their theories are indeed notably different, if not completely in
contrast with each other. However, if we look closely at these theories, the one similarity, often
overlooked by critics, is the fact that both offer a critique of the state despite the fact that their views
are opposing. In order to understand these views of state, it is important to first understand the
fundamental views of both pluralism and Marxism. Only then can these views be assessed and finally

However, Marxism had only developed after the death of Marx therefore the ideas which are
attributed to him are bound to differ. All the same, there is one key issue from which Marxism
developed that is said to be evident:
Marx himself believed that he had developed a new brand of socialism that was scientific in the sense
that it was primarily concerned with disclosing the nature of social and historical development, rather
than with advancing an essentially ethical critique of capitalism.
Heywood (2003:125)
So whilst Marxism is essentially a critique of capitalism, Marx initially criticised the Hegelian theory
and so had developed his own views from there, where he had noticed that power was centralised and,
furthermore, effectively abolished the chance of there ever being a classless society.
The pluralist view of the state came about as an objection to state sovereignty, out of fear that the state
would remain totalitarian if power was only exercised within the state as opposed to distributed
amongst society as a whole (Schwarzmantel, 1994; Smith, 2006). Pluralists are said to have a naive
theory of how the state behaves neutrally in a liberal democracy (Dunleavy and O Leary, 1987:41), as
it is impossible for the state to behave in such a way when power can never truly be distributed
equally and is held within the state in itself. As Nicholls (1975) affirms, those who wanted a
decentralised state were attacked because oligarchy

The Arthopleau was the largest known land invertebrate of all time. They were 1 8 ½ feet long and are
related to millipedes and centipedes. Since there were no fossil mouth parts to ever be found, scientists
thought for a while that they were carnivores. But the recent discovery of plant s pollen in the animals
guts ( ew, I know) have suggested that the Ortho Pleau was actually a herbivore. The last animal I am
going to talk about are the reptiles. During this time, reptiles were changing and evolving quickly.
Some reptiles had sharp teeth that is similar to our modern day crocodile. Others had scaly and thick
skin, which would keep them hydrated if they were away from water for a while. There were also
small reptiles, whose fossils were found inside tree stumps. Amphibians and fish also thrived during
this time. The first dinosaurs like the t rex, spinosaurus, and velociraptor, were also first appearing.
The climate of this period was humid and warm. There was lots of oxygen, plants, animals, and
beauty. But towards the end of this period, things started to change. The temperatures dropped, due to
glaciers that moved across the south pole. There were no mass extinctions because of this , but
however, many marine species did go extinct. These included Horn corals, trilobites and some forms
of crinoids. They were just a preview of the mass extinctions that were soon to come in the Devonian

Collonization Of Australia And Indigenous Australian People
Identify the primary factors which led to the colonisation of Australia and Indigenous Australian
peoples and explain the theories of race which supported this process.
This essay identifies the primary factors which led to the colonisation of Australia and Indigenous
Australian peoples while explaining how race theories were used to justify colonising Australia. Many
factors led to the colonisation of Australia including British Imperialism, but the penal colony was
very important so the British pushed on, whether they had the right to or not. Race was a theory and
using sources, this essay explores different opinions and perspectives of the race theories. The
Indigenous Australian people were on the lower end of the Great Chain of Being and therefore, were
treated as inferior to the Europeans.
British colonialism emerged from rapid political, social and economic change and this affected the
development of technology and a strong sense of national pride and identity which led the way for the
British Empire to be a global power. Due to the Industrial Revolution, the majority of the population
lived in the city which created poor living conditions and overcrowding. With low economic rates,
many people were pushed into theft to feed their families and in turn, the crime rates rose
significantly. Many convicts were sentenced to transportation and were sent, and sometimes sold, to
work as labourers in South American colonies. Due to the American War of Independence,

Portuguese traders then spread the chili peppers to many far flung locations, such as India, Indonesia,
and Persia (Andrews 1984).
Chile peppers became popular due to their great variability in size, shape, and color. Unfortunately,
this long proved to be a problem for the taxonomists, who frequently had trouble telling the difference
between a different variety and a different species. It wasn t until the 1950 s that it was decided that
there were five main species of chili peppers, and twenty wild ones (Proulx 1985). The five main
species are: Capsicum annum, Capsicum frutescens, Capsicum chinense, Capsicum baccatum, and
Capsicum pubescens. However, it is considered impossible to develop a system of classification that
would cover all of the chili peppers, due to the great variation among the members of the same
species, especially in places such as Mexico (Smith, Villalon, and Villa 1987).
Man s interest in chili peppers has resulted in new varieties, such as the TAM Jalapeno, Hidalgo
Serrano, and Numex Big Jim, which have a milder flavor or are more resistant to disease. In order to
make chili peppers more palatable to the public, chili pepper breeders are breeding varieties that are

How Does Cormac Mccarthy Use Of Figurative Language In The...
The Road is a novel written by Cormac McCarthy set in a dystopian society. The text follows a boy
and his father through the lawless world. The boy and his father take the reader through a journey
through the post apocalyptic world. The author Cormac McCarthy entertains his readership of The
Road through using multiple core techniques. Cormac McCarthy expands on each technique as a form
of entertainment for the reader and to draw the reader further in. The core techniques used by Cormac
McCarthy for the entertainment of his readership are figurative language, symbolism and a range of
themes.
Figurative language is executed through personification, simile and onomatopoeia. An example of

Each theme addressed in the text plays a part in the development of the plot and in the building of the
relationship or connection between the reader and the text. An example is paternal love. This theme is
demonstrated in the relationship between father and son. The relationship between the father and son
adds a heart warming touch to the plot making the reader feel more passionate about their journeys
and travels through the post apocalyptic world. Another theme highlighted throughout the text is the
battle between good and evil, where the father and son are good, and the cannibals seen in many
scenes of the text, the evil. This theme makes the reader pick a side and think what they would be,
good or evil? The multiple themes addressed in the by Cormac McCarthy are used as tools of

Book review of All the Presidents Men
All The President s Men written by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein set at the break in of the
Watergate building and priced at fifteen dollars copy righted in 1974 and published by Simon Schuster
tells the story of the Watergate scandal. It all started with the break in at the Democratic headquarters;
however it proves to lead to something even more complex. This story tells how two reporters worked
together and connected the dots to uncover a scandal that reached the highest government officials.
On June 17, 1972, a reporter name Woodward who worked for the Washington Post was asked to
cover a story. There had been a break in at the Watergate hotel. When Woodward got to the newsroom,
he found that this was not an ordinary break in, and he would not be the only reporter reporting on this
break in. The burglars had broken into the headquarters of the Democratic national committee in the
Watergate office apartment hotel building. Bernstein the other reporter had the same assignment as
Woodward. The two reporters had no pleasure for each other s company.
As the trails continued for the men who had committed the break in, Woodward started to realize that
there might be more to this story than meets the eye. Bernstein did some research of his own and ...

Silence In Engera
Likewise, Post article China pressures Indonesia to silent dissent from Falun Gong followers also has
biased overtones, but unlike Pomfret Higgins presents a more critical tone toward the Chinese
government, as well as Indonesia s for seemingly succumbing to Chinese pressure. From the way the
very article is framed from the point of view of a Falun Gong practitioner, to portraying the conflict as
a matter of Chinese political authoritarianism and coercion, the issue of Erabaru Radio s struggle with
government authorities is meant to depict Erabaru as some sort of ideological underdog that invokes
sympathy from the readers. Although Indonesian authorities claim that Erabaru Radio is illegal due to

However, the Chinese government is more likely to use xiejiao, which translates into evil cult in most
publications, or simply cult in other written works. Regardless, even with evil as a descriptor the word
cult invokes negative tones and connotations, bringing to mind the occult and barbaric superstitions.
In addition, it delegitimizes the object in question by establishing a boundary between religion and
cult, and in this instance also serves to further portray Falun Gong negatively by linking it with cults
in foreign countries, thus justifying suppression. [footnote ming 79] Finally, the use of the word cult
by Chinese authorities also has historical significance, as for centuries the term had been used to
categorize religious movements which [the government] want[s] to eradicate, as oftentimesit was
perceived that these movements threatened the fate or legitimacy of the state itself. [footnote Benny 6]
Therefore, it is important to take note of which terms are used by Western media. Higgins by steps the

embassy and Chinese government. Pomfret addresses Falun Gong as a sect, but also uses cult

Southern Baptist Convention
Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) founded in 1845 at Augusta, Georgia, is the largest Protestant
denomination in the United States. The name itself tells us the geographical location of where the
most number of these churches were founded. Although primarily found in the southern region of the
United States, in recent years they have expanded to all regions of the country. Due to its expansion
their annual convention has been held in cities outside of the southern area, therefore giving the name

When it comes to engineering, building, and designing something that will be used by humans, safety
is the most important step in the entire process. It should be taken very seriously by all who are

Parable Of The Good Samaritan
When given the option between the Good Samaritan or the Prodigal Son, I chose the Good Samaritan.
I believe this parable represents a common misconception of our walk with Christ. This parable deals
with individuals who are excepted to show compassion that does not and individuals who are least
likely to show compassion that actually does. In this passage Jesus teaches the lawyer that everyone is
his neighbor; thus meaning he should love everyone, regardless of their situation or social standard.
1. The Setting...why did Jesus tell this parable?
Jesus introduced this parable to a Pharisee that was a law expert (lawyer or Scribe). The Pharisee asks
Jesus what he must do to earn eternal life. Jesus then allowed the Pharisee to answer his own question
by asking what the law said. The Pharisee correctly explained himself by saying love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. ; and,
Love your neighbor as yourself. The lawyer then proceeds to ask who his neighbors were. Jesus
replied with The Parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches God s law of love and how to
effectively express it.
2. The Characters
Character #1 Jesus was referred to specifically in this parable as a Teacher by the Pharisee. He is also
considered to be the storyteller in this specific piece. Globally known as the Son of God.
Character #2 The Pharisee was an expert in the law which allowed him to answer his own question to

Why Curfew Hourss Are Important For Teens
The ways teens act nowadays are really diverse between the new and old. Curfew hours are really
important for teens and their own safety.Although they are home certain times, this does not

though people complain. Having the juvenile under control can have mutual responsibilities. The most
critical issue for not following the curfew hours can lead to many consequences. The time limit can
have lots of causes and effects within teens.Curfew times are good to have to help teens from getting
into dangerous situations, the lost of education, and the mutual amount of safety at the time. Curfew

Prey By Michael Crichton Summary
For my book report, I decided to choose the book, Prey , by Michael Crichton. This selection teaches
many scientific facts in a story like form. The story Prey , is based in the Nevada desert when
suddenly an experiment goes terribly wrong. Scientist had created nanoparticles, micro robots, to help
people, but instead of these robots helping people, they kill all living objects. To make matters even
worse, all of the micro robots have escaped and humans are its prey. Scientist have tried multiple
times to destroy them, but every procedure has been unsuccessful. With each passing hour, the
nanoparticles become more and more deadly. In this selection, the main character, Jack, is married to a

In the very beginning of his novel, he talks about how many of us today are not fully grasping the
world s implications. He believes people are not noticing what is truly going on around them today in
nature. Crichton wants us to capture the real meaning of evolution in this story. He wants us to
envision a world where every living plant, insect, and animal species is changing at every instant. The
author wants us to know that whole populations of organisms are rising and falling, shifting and
changing every second of the day. This is called biosphere. Biosphere means that we do not know the
advance consequences of anything that we do. This is because us people either do not know enough or
that the ever changing world responses to our actions in many different ways. Biosphere responds
unpredictably to our actions. The author is saying that we are unaware of what is going on around us.
For example, in the story people were clueless that the robots had escaped and people did not know
how to destroy these dangerous machines. This is just one of the scientific ways the author is trying to
tell us through the

17th Century Sheriffs
By the 17th century, northern colonies formed a system which took inspiration from English policing.
At the time, the sheriff was the highest form of a law enforcement official. Sheriffs started out having
many jobs which include collecting taxes and supervised elections. Despite having many jobs, sheriffs
were not paid a salary (but were paid fees with each arrest) and stayed inside their office. In cities,
town marshals were the main law enforcement officers. They were given help by constables and night
watchmen. In 1631, the first night watch was created by the city of Boston. They formed a constable
position in 1634. In the south, there was little law and order, and was the responsibility of a citizen.

of professional law enforcement. The Federal Judiciary Act of 1789, was created the office of the U.S.

possible by the federal posse comitatus legislation in 1792. In 1861, Congress passed a law
empowering the president to call upon the militia or regular army to enhance law enforcement when it
was extremely needed. In 1879, Congress passed the Posse Comitatus Act, forbidding the use of the
military to enforce civilian law except where specifically authorized by law. The use of military in the

The Scaffold Scenes in Nathaniel Hawthrone´s The Scarlet...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter is known as a psychological novel regarding humanity, sin,
guilt, and a fair amount of other ambiguous concepts. One of those is the significance of the three
scaffold scenes throughout the work. The scaffold scenes signify religious and moral ideas, such as
sinfulness, the spiritual figures the characters each portray, and the character development achieved by
public and private absolution. The first scaffold scene begins the novel. In chapters two through three,
the protagonist Hester Prynne stands on the scaffold, bearing a scarlet A and a child at her breast as
signs of her adultery. She is interrogated and lectured by the Puritan ministers of the town, including
Arthur Dimmesdale, who is later discovered to have been Hester s partner in crime and the father of
Hester s baby Pearl. The first scaffold scene hosts also the initial appearance of Hester s speculated
dead husband, Roger Chillingworth, amidst the crowd of townspeople watching his wife s public
humiliation. Had there been a Papist among the crowd of Puritans, he might have seen in this beautiful
woman [Hester], so picturesque in her attire and mien, and with the infant at her bosom, an object to
remind him of the image of Divine Maternity... (Hawthorne, ch.2, ¶17). The depiction of Hester as the
Virgin Mary connotes a sympathetic tone of the author towards her character. The sin Hester
committed is to be with her for the rest of her life, and when she removes the

Digital Filters And The Digital Filter
2.1.2 Digital Filter
Digital filter is a digital algorithm or device which is composed of a digital multiplier, adder and delay
element. The function of the digital filter is to carry out the operation of the digital code of the input
discrete signal in order to achieve the purpose of changing the spectrum of the signal.
Digital filter has a lot of practical forms, can be roughly divided into two kinds of type: finite impulse
response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR). It can be used in both hardware and software
platform. In the hardware implementation method, it is composed of an adder, a multiplier, which is
completely separate from the analog filter which is composed of resistors, inductors and capacitors.
Digital signal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another outstanding advantage of it is that the strict linear phase can be achieved when some
symmetry conditions are met. Since linear phase filter does not change the shape of the input signal,
but only make the signal delay in the time domain, so the linear phase characteristics has very
important significance in the engineering practice, such as in data communications, image processing
and other applications. It often require that the signal can not have obvious phase distortion in the
transmission and processing, so FIR filter has been widely used.
The causal finite impulse response filter of length M can be described by the transfer function H(z):
(1)
It is a polynomial of and its power is M 1. In time domain, the input and output relationship of the
finite impulse response filter is: (2) y(n) is the output sequence and x(n) is the input sequence.
A direct realization of finite impulse response filter, which can be generated by formula (2). M=5 is
shown in Figure 2.2. The transpose, as shown in Figure 2.3, which is second direct type structure.
Typically a finite impulse response filter with a length of M is described by M coefficients and
requires a M multiplier and (M 1) a two input adder to achieve.

The Oni throughout Pop Culture Literature and Art
The Oni throughout Pop Culture Literature and Art:
The similarity throughout all folk tales involving the oni is that they are villains of the humans. An
Oni is a yokai which is a strange and supernatural being from Japanese folklore. yo means attractive,

isolated tribes that lived on Japan s isles who had different beliefs but could be alligned with the
others. The traditions changed form with the arrival of Shinto and Buddhism which brought Chinese

Unnatural Motifs In Macbeth
Shakespeare uses unnatural motifs to show how Macbeth and everyone around him cannot escape

At the beginning of the play, Macbeth meets the Weird Sisters and starts his chain of unnatural
circumstances and his great destiny. As Macbeth and Banquo are walking back from battle, they meet
the weird sisters who confusingly hail him as Thane of Glamis (1.3.51), Thane of Cawdor (1.3.52),
and as the king hereafter (1.3.53). These confusing actions disturb Macbeth because he sees it as three
weird women hailing him as king hereafter after waiting for him outside of a military battle. After
many festivities and the title of Thane of Cawdor being entrusted to Macbeth, Banquo wakes up at
night and tells Macbeth that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Banquo is killed, Macbeth goes to the weird sisters to learn more about his destiny, to which he
is responded to by an apparition who says that Macbeth must Beware Macduff! Beware the Thane of
Fife! (4.1.81 82) and another apparition who says for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth.
(4.1.91 92). This is highly unnatural because the witches have summoned apparitions to tell Macbeth
his destiny, and that is very unnerving knowing that these apparitions know these things, as well as the
witches knowing how to summon apparitions. Through this, a dark mood is created as to what thing
not born of woman would kill Macbeth and lead him to his ultimate fate. Later on as Macbeth
prepares for Macduff s siege on his castle, a messenger comes and says that as he did stand his watch
upon the hill (5.5.37), that The Wood began to move. (5.5.39). The fact that the woods began to move
is very unnatural and creates a dark mood for the scene because this unnatural circumstance is
foreboding of Macbeth s great destiny coming after him faster than he expected it

People s actions don t come out of nowhere, there is something that strives them to act or behave the

people should take care of their mental and emotional well being to create more positivity all around
them, whether it s for friends, family, or an outsider. When we as a society achieved this goal, we
wouldn t think helping others as being selfish. This is because everyone would have that identical
mentality within them to spread positivity and when they all do that, it makes it easier to claim that
someone committed an act of kindness toward someone because they cared about the effect it would

The Vampire Effect Of Dracula
Not many people would think that they can be compared to Count Dracula. Considered to be one of
the most well known monsters of all time, Count Dracula sucks the blood of his victims, which would
ultimately lead to their death. While this seems like a very unique example, it can be applied to nearly
every person, specifically in the college stetting. This phenomenon that can be linked to this monster
is called the vampire effect. First used in the book ______, this term refers to the what happens in
social groups due to different personality types that were caused by a difference in economic
background. Set in a college dormitory, chapter 4 of the book discusses how there is a difference in the
social lives of students who are quiet versus students who are more outgoing. Students who were shy
were generally ignored and did not seem to partake in many social activities. While Armstrong and
Hamilton suggest that the Vampire Effect arises due to the social students knowingly ignoring and
rejecting the shyer students, that is not the case. The cycle through which the effect takes place starts
with self comparison due to economic status, envy, and self blame, and results in anxiety and self
isolation. Although this is done unintentionally, consciously known factors such debt and class also
play a role in the process.
As Armstrong and Hamilton describe the social isolates , Others treated the quieter roommate as sort
of a sidekick or an invisible appendage (105).

technology advancements sound far fetched to contemporary ears, and many people hesitate at the
prospect of adopting them. Nonetheless should we embrace a cyborg future in which tasks great and
small are carried out by robots? As robots are becoming increasingly common in human
environments, people will be presented with more opportunities in addition existing jobs in healthcare
may be replaced by software, humanoid robots and smart machines by the year 2025. And there are
two WORDS with various opinions on this prospect. Doctors are not healthcare vending machines,
but professionals who understand the difference between negative rights, such as the right to refuse
treatment . (Cheshire, JR., MD). Physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers are professionals. A
healthcare professional, by contrast, undergoes many years of demanding training and sacrifice,
develops a practice, and pursues a vocation for the purpose of serving others. Professionals declare
that they are competent and willing to care for the sick, and they commit to healing as their way of
life. Smart machines and robots are service providers. Professionals are not the same as service
providers. Moreover to knowledge, professionalism consists of technical skills as well. A case in point

  • 2. Starbucks Case Study Report Starbucks: The Coffee Shop Company Darrell Jones, Earnest Workmen, Amanda Anguiano Brenau University Starbucks: The Coffee Company The Original Starbucks This report is on the Starbucks coffee shop company. Starbucks was founded around 45 years ago in 1971. Its first store was located at 2000 Western Avenue in Seattle, Washington until 1976, when it moved its operations to Pike Place Market, Elliott Bay, Seattle, Washington, U.S. where they began selling espresso coffee in 1986. The three founders Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker were former students of the University of San Francisco. Their plan was to sell high quality coffee beans and roasting equipment. They did not know at the onset the company would become so successful. In 1987 Howard Schultz took the opportunity to purchase the company from the original owners. He then set his goals on opening new outlets outside Seattle. By the year 1989, the popularity for Starbucks increased and Schultz was under pressure to open more stores to cash in on the public demand. Soon, Starbucks increased its stores to more than 135 outlets and was earning up to 72 million dollars. This was the same year Schultz placed Starbucks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schultz sold 12% of the company for 25 million to raise capital for doubling its stores in the next two year. By 1996 they increased their stores to Tokyo, Japan. In 1998, Starbucks bought U.K. based company Seattle Coffee Company for 83 million dollars, and moved into the U.K. market. They then purchased Torrefzione Italia a Seattle s Best coffee for 72 million and opened up an additional 150 stores. In 2007, Starbucks opened its doors in Russia. Starbucks then purchased the Teavana Company for 620 million dollars. This was Starbucks biggest acquisition to date. • 3. The Culture Of America The culture of America is marked by diversity and is constantly changing as a result of such diversity. The question posed is, does the recent presidential election indicate a white, racist culture? The culture of the U.S. has been, from its inception, white; our founding fathers were white. It has taken the U.S. hundreds of years with many conflicts along the way, to start to give value to other cultures. Looking back eight years ago to the election then; the approximate percentage of whites in the U.S. was 62.6% (Wikipedia, 2017) and Obama was elected to presidency in 2008 and again in 2012. The ratio of white Americans has not changed substantially and, if anything, has only decreased since then. In 2012, the Census Bureau announced that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has only been three months since his inauguration, but rest assured, it will. History and culture go hand in hand. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it Sir Winston Churchill. This saying in history is to remember that the same mistakes are not made over and over again. America is based on individuality and that makes a homogenous culture hard. Different beliefs, different cultures, different ethnicities, that s what once made America great in it s infancy and will do so again. Different beliefs are what weld us together to produce a culture not seen in the rest of the world. When Obama was elected, what were cultural anthropologists surmising then? Did they project the end of racial tensions between whites and blacks? Yes, they were predicting a more harmonious culture. However, that s not what happened; research indicates that racial tensions increased throughout the Presidency of Obama. Curious? If your contention is that the election of Trump will increase white racial supremacy, then maybe you are correct. Having a black president sure did not ensure harmonious racial interchanges. Culture will change, however, slowly. Culture, like Rome, was not built in a day. Young African Americans saw a black man in office and maybe that influenced quite a few children of color to try harder, to excel, to be something more than what society dictated to them so far. ... • 4. Religion In August Religion Everyone views religion in their own unique way. Everyone s own unique upbringing and perspective on life help shape their views on religion, and if it s important. In William Faulkner s novel Light in August, the people in the fictional town of Jefferson Mississippi strictly uphold religion and use it to create their social standard. The citizens of Jefferson Mississippi display the stereotypical southern charm, and the various Christian symbols in the novel symbolize how much faith is a part of the life in Jefferson. This feeling of openness and comfort in Jefferson turns superficial when the citizens are forced to appeal to the conventional societal standards. The irony of the situation is the conventional societal standards are contradictory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many righteous people in religion and a few good hearted people in the novel, but the hypocrisy in religion is exposed in the chaos and cruelty that the citizens of Jefferson bring upon individuals like Christmas. The harsh and unfair treatment of Christmas corrupts Christmas and limits people in Jefferson from seeing Christmas intended divinity. The values professed by the religious people of Jefferson, Mississippi do not align with their actions that abandon and separate others in society. The hypocrisy demonstrated by the southern citizens of Jefferson show that the religious standards and expectations that are set are impossible to achieve. The hefty goals, aspirations, and standards that people thought humans could achieve in the romantic era are not able to be achieved today. If humanity can no longer meet religion s standards or recognize a person who represents their savior, what role does religion have in modern life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Explain The Arguments In Favor Of Substance Dualism In philosophy, substance dualism is the idea that the mind and body are two distinct things. A substance dualist believes that the behavior and characteristics of the mind could never be fully explained by the empirical scientific laws that dictate the physical world, and because of this, the mind and the body should be seen as distinct entities. This differs immensely from the ideas physicalist have. Physicalist believe that all of the characteristics of the mind can be explained by observing the behavior of the brain, and if physicalist fail to explain a characteristic of the mind with the knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics and anatomy they currently have, they simply excuse these failures as things that will eventually be explained by future scientific discoveries. Leibniz s law argument is one of the most notable arguments in favor of substance dualism. Leibniz s law is a mathematical law known as the indiscernibility of identicals. This law states that if two variables, x and y, are identical, then the two variables must share all of the same characteristics. Therefore, if the variables have any different characteristics, they are not identical. Descartes uses this law to argue in favor of substance dualism by discussing different characteristics the mind and body have that they do not share. Descartes claims that whereas the ... The bond angle and exciton binding energy of doped fullerene interacting with L Alanine generated a more stable structure compared to fullerene C20. The doped fullerene interacting with amino acid is discussed in terms of bond length, bond angle, dipole moment, Energy gap, global reactivity descriptors, NBO and NMR analysis. The dissociation energy (∆E) value of C19Si L Alanine is more stable compared to fullerene C20 structure. These results show that Si doped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The molecular surface of doped fullerene can interact with amino acids or biomolecule to give strong surface properties. The interacting metals lower the energy gap values which promote the interaction of the compounds. The metal ion increases and chemical interactions are also increasing. In the three and a half years He ministered, He performed and accomplished astonishing feats. He preached life changing sermons, and taught captivating parables that remain to test today s most educated scholars. He healed hundreds of incurable diseases, provided food for thousands extraordinarily, calmed storms suddenly, walked on water confidently, brought people back to life, and selected just a dozen men, eleven of whom would go on to spend the rest of their lives fulfilling His mission. He selected hard working people such as fishermen to be His apprentices, and helped and ate with regular people. He challenged and condemned religious leaders, who resented and despised Him. He taught in Jerusalem, the cities of Judea, out in the rural areas, in meadows, on mounds, and from boats in the water while multitudes attended attentively from the shore. Jesus taught about a place, but not a place of this world. He never had a family, owned a home, held an office, or even wrote a book. Though some would debate as Christians we are children of God, He is seated at the gates of our eternal home in Heaven, sits at the right hand of God, and played a major role and character in the bestselling book and greatest story ever told. Many centuries have gone by and He still remains the focus and shining light for most of the world. Jesus became and is the highest foundation of direction and motivation from one ... Atheism Is Not A Religion, A Worldview Or A Belief System There have been numerous debates between the religious and atheists, and all seem to end with the same conclusion: neither side changed at all. Atheism is defined as the rejection of the God hypothesis. Atheism is not a religion, a worldview or a belief system; they are just denying religious claims that fail to provide evidence. Christians follow the teachings of Jesus Christ written in the bible. They believe god created the earth in seven days and that he will soon send his son, Jesus to earth to take the faithful to heaven. Deep analyzation of evolution, creationism, and the bible will surely reveal the truth. Evolution, is basically decent with modification , this applies to microevolution and macroevolution. (www.evolution.berkeley.edu) Evolution, when on a smaller scale is defined as microevolution; an example would be the house sparrows. Depending on the location the sparrows have different characteristics, some are larger and heavier to protect from the cold while others are lighter to withstand heat. There is so much evidence for microevolution it s almost impossible to deny. Microevolution is observable because of the short timespan required for it to take place. The controversy begins when you get into macroevolution which is evolution on a much bigger scale. Usually referring to a change in species, this cannot be observed because it takes longer than one lifespan to detect. We are able to observe small modifications; it should be common sense that over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He addressed the crowd with a calm demeanor and a strong voice, and gave a speech on the importance of being a present father and the many lasting negative effects that having an absent father can have on a child. His heavy use of pathos, the appeal to emotion, gave the speech depth, and a reason for the crowd to want to listen. The Five Generalizations Essay Adrian Medina Module 2 FIN400 Analyzing Financial Statements CSU Global Dr. Osman Masahudu The five generalizations that I believe are from the findings in the case study The Dangerous Morality of Managing Earnings go back to the code of ethics that the SEC has set in place. The first is Honest and ethical conduct, (Gibson, C.H. 2011) which a lot of the managers showed that they were not honest by doing what they felt necessary to show a positive bottom line. The second generalization is the full, fair, accurate, timely, and understandable disclosure in reports and documents that a company files, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). Hazera, A. 2007). Management s ability to manage the earnings in the long run is that they will not have any earnings in the long run if the type of manipulation that is going keeps occurring. The quote from one of the examples, On accounting manipulations, a profit center controller reported: Accounting is grey. Very little is absolute...You can save your company by doing things with sales and expenses, and, if it s legal, then you are justified in doing it, (Gibson, C.H. 2011). This speaks volumes that these type of people don t care about the true bottom line all they care about is finding a way to manipulate it. In the long term you will effect everything what you do in the short term. The other example would be the following: Last year we called our customers and asked if they could take early delivery. However, Marxism had only developed after the death of Marx therefore the ideas which are attributed to him are bound to differ. All the same, there is one key issue from which Marxism developed that is said to be evident: Marx himself believed that he had developed a new brand of socialism that was scientific in the sense that it was primarily concerned with disclosing the nature of social and historical development, rather than with advancing an essentially ethical critique of capitalism. Heywood (2003:125) So whilst Marxism is essentially a critique of capitalism, Marx initially criticised the Hegelian theory and so had developed his own views from there, where he had noticed that power was centralised and, furthermore, effectively abolished the chance of there ever being a classless society. The pluralist view of the state came about as an objection to state sovereignty, out of fear that the state would remain totalitarian if power was only exercised within the state as opposed to distributed amongst society as a whole (Schwarzmantel, 1994; Smith, 2006). Pluralists are said to have a naive theory of how the state behaves neutrally in a liberal democracy (Dunleavy and O Leary, 1987:41), as it is impossible for the state to behave in such a way when power can never truly be distributed equally and is held within the state in itself. In this passage Jesus teaches the lawyer that everyone is his neighbor; thus meaning he should love everyone, regardless of their situation or social standard. 1. The Setting...why did Jesus tell this parable? Jesus introduced this parable to a Pharisee that was a law expert (lawyer or Scribe). The Pharisee asks Jesus what he must do to earn eternal life. Jesus then allowed the Pharisee to answer his own question by asking what the law said. The Pharisee correctly explained himself by saying love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. ; and, Love your neighbor as yourself. The lawyer then proceeds to ask who his neighbors were. Jesus replied with The Parable of the Good Samaritan, which teaches God s law of love and how to effectively express it. 2. The Characters Character #1 Jesus was referred to specifically in this parable as a Teacher by the Pharisee. He is also considered to be the storyteller in this specific piece. Globally known as the Son of God. Character #2 The Pharisee was an expert in the law which allowed him to answer his own question to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story Prey , is based in the Nevada desert when suddenly an experiment goes terribly wrong. Scientist had created nanoparticles, micro robots, to help people, but instead of these robots helping people, they kill all living objects. To make matters even worse, all of the micro robots have escaped and humans are its prey. Scientist have tried multiple times to destroy them, but every procedure has been unsuccessful. The author wants us to know that whole populations of organisms are rising and falling, shifting and changing every second of the day. This is called biosphere. Exploratory Essay Examples Over the course of this semester, the three essays that I wrote were the exploratory essay, A Cute Condition (12 pages), the personal narrative, Lost and Found (11 pages), and the profile essay, Not for the Faint of Heart (12 pages). After rereading my twelve page exploratory essay, A Cute Condition, I was surprised by how I differently I felt about the essay at this point in the semester compared to when I first turned it in. This was an essay about cuteness and the baby schema effect. It was inspired by Joshua Slice s animations about Lucas the Spider. With that in mind, I wrote my third, twelve page, profile essay, Not for the Faint of Heart. I was strongly influenced by Miah Arnold s You Owe Me. At the time, the sheriff was the highest form of a law enforcement official. Sheriffs started out having many jobs which include collecting taxes and supervised elections. Despite having many jobs, sheriffs were not paid a salary (but were paid fees with each arrest) and stayed inside their office. In cities, town marshals were the main law enforcement officers. They were given help by constables and night watchmen. In 1631, the first night watch was created by the city of Boston. They formed a constable position in 1634. The Federal Judiciary Act of 1789, was created the office of the U.S. marshal and gave the marshals power to call upon the militia for assistance, a power which was made possible by the federal posse comitatus legislation in 1792. • 32. The Scaffold Scenes in Nathaniel Hawthrone´s The Scarlet... Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter is known as a psychological novel regarding humanity, sin, guilt, and a fair amount of other ambiguous concepts. One of those is the significance of the three scaffold scenes throughout the work. The scaffold scenes signify religious and moral ideas, such as sinfulness, the spiritual figures the characters each portray, and the character development achieved by public and private absolution. The first scaffold scene begins the novel. In chapters two through three, the protagonist Hester Prynne stands on the scaffold, bearing a scarlet A and a child at her breast as signs of her adultery. She is interrogated and lectured by the Puritan ministers of the town, including Arthur Dimmesdale, who is later discovered to have been Hester s partner in crime and the father of Hester s baby Pearl. The first scaffold scene hosts also the initial appearance of Hester s speculated dead husband, Roger Chillingworth, amidst the crowd of townspeople watching his wife s public humiliation. Had there been a Papist among the crowd of Puritans, he might have seen in this beautiful woman [Hester], so picturesque in her attire and mien, and with the infant at her bosom, an object to remind him of the image of Divine Maternity... (Hawthorne, ch.2, ¶17). The depiction of Hester as the Virgin Mary connotes a sympathetic tone of the author towards her character. The sin Hester committed is to be with her for the rest of her life, and when she removes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Digital Filters And The Digital Filter 2.1.2 Digital Filter Digital filter is a digital algorithm or device which is composed of a digital multiplier, adder and delay element. The function of the digital filter is to carry out the operation of the digital code of the input discrete signal in order to achieve the purpose of changing the spectrum of the signal. Digital filter has a lot of practical forms, can be roughly divided into two kinds of type: finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR). It can be used in both hardware and software platform. In the hardware implementation method, it is composed of an adder, a multiplier, which is completely separate from the analog filter which is composed of resistors, inductors and capacitors. Digital signal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another outstanding advantage of it is that the strict linear phase can be achieved when some symmetry conditions are met. Since linear phase filter does not change the shape of the input signal, but only make the signal delay in the time domain, so the linear phase characteristics has very important significance in the engineering practice, such as in data communications, image processing and other applications. It often require that the signal can not have obvious phase distortion in the transmission and processing, so FIR filter has been widely used. The causal finite impulse response filter of length M can be described by the transfer function H(z): (1) It is a polynomial of and its power is M 1. This is highly unnatural because the witches have summoned apparitions to tell Macbeth his destiny, and that is very unnerving knowing that these apparitions know these things, as well as the witches knowing how to summon apparitions. Through this, a dark mood is created as to what thing not born of woman would kill Macbeth and lead him to his ultimate fate. Later on as Macbeth prepares for Macduff s siege on his castle, a messenger comes and says that as he did stand his watch upon the hill (5.5.37), that The Wood began to move. (5.5.39). When we as a society achieved this goal, we wouldn t think helping others as being selfish. This is because everyone would have that identical mentality within them to spread positivity and when they all do that, it makes it easier to claim that someone committed an act of kindness toward someone because they cared about the effect it would have on the victim rather than the joy you feel after helping ... Considered to be one of the most well known monsters of all time, Count Dracula sucks the blood of his victims, which would ultimately lead to their death. While this seems like a very unique example, it can be applied to nearly every person, specifically in the college stetting. This phenomenon that can be linked to this monster is called the vampire effect. First used in the book ______, this term refers to the what happens in social groups due to different personality types that were caused by a difference in economic background. Set in a college dormitory, chapter 4 of the book discusses how there is a difference in the social lives of students who are quiet versus students who are more outgoing. Students who were shy were generally ignored and did not seem to partake in many social activities. While Armstrong and Hamilton suggest that the Vampire Effect arises due to the social students knowingly ignoring and rejecting the shyer students, that is not the case. The cycle through which the effect takes place starts with self comparison due to economic status, envy, and self blame, and results in anxiety and self isolation. Although this is done unintentionally, consciously known factors such debt and class also play a role in the process. As Armstrong and Hamilton describe the social isolates , Others treated the quieter roommate as sort of a sidekick or an invisible appendage (105). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
