Assignment On Chronic Pain Loging
Module 13 Discussion 2 Chronic Illness and Disability
Chronic Pain Journal Article
1. This assignment will be completed either in pairs or triads. View The Mystery of Chronic Pain.
Then, go to the American Chronic Pain website. Look at the Communication Tools. Be sure to review
the Pain Log.
a. Discuss your reaction to the video and to the pain scale/log. Consider the following questions:
My reaction to the video is that the most simple and light object can cause pain to a person who is
dealing with chronic pain. It makes a certain area on an individual s body that is in pain, a very
sensitive spot/area. An area on an individual s body that have pain does send signals of the pain to the
brain, and back to the affected area. In my opinion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The research will be done in advance before meeting a client, so that I can be fully aware of his or her
medical condition. I would do my research, by looking at Internet sources, scholarly articles, and
books to become knowledgeable of a client s condition, and what is efficient to assist my client
internally and externally. The research that I will know beforehand will help me to maintain a
professional relationship with my client(s).
3. What did you learn from the Pain Log?
What I have learned from the Pain Log is that it wants to know more about an individual internally
and externally. It is based on a scale of 0 (highest) to 10 (lowest) on what an individual do, and how he
or she feels. The Pain Log is something new to me, and should be in doctor offices, and hospitals.
Even though there is a simple overall pain log of what level of pain currently experiencing; however,
this pain log is different, by including other important questions about an individuals well being.
b. Find a scholarly article that deals with working with people who have chronic pain.

group, phase 2 study. Lancet Oncology, 16(6), 695 703 9pID: 109800911BACKGROUND: Treatment
options for advanced, well differentiated neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) remain scarce. Pazopanib is
an orally bioavailable, small molecule, multitargeted kinase inhibitor that inhibits VEGF receptors 1,
2, and 3. We did a study of the efficacy of pazopanib with depot octreotide in patients with advanced
NETs. METHODS: We did a parallel cohort study of patients with metastatic or locally advanced
grade 1 2 carcinoid tumours or pancreatic NETs, by use of a single group, two stage design. Patients
received pazopanib 800 mg orally once per day and octreotide at their preprotocol dosage. The
primary endpoint was the proportion of patients achieving an objective response, as assessed by
investigators, by intention to treat analysis. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier
NCT00454363, and was completed in March, 2014. FINDINGS: Between April 12, 2007, and July 2,
2009, we enrolled 52 patients, including 32 individuals with pancreatic NETs and 20 individuals with
carcinoid tumours. Seven (21·9%, 95% CI 11·0 38·8) of 32 patients with pancreatic NETs achieved an
objective response. We detected no responses in the first stage of the cohort with carcinoid tumours,

Design Of The Electronic Health Records System
The purpose of this section is to assist in formalizing ideas for the design of The Electronic Health
Records system. Specifically, this section will illustrate the unique attributes of individual Electronic
Health Records databases, explain how these databases are constructed, describe their uses and data
elements and types. It will also produce a detailed data model of the database to meet the end user
requirement.
The Enterprise Data Model System methodology has the following main stages:
At this stage, the specifics of the scope and the general content of the project has been identified and is
the first step in database development. It illustrates the overall picture of organizational data at a high
level of abstraction. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1. Conceptual database design:
It is a process of constructing a data model for each view of the real world problem which is
independent of physical considerations. This stage involves assessing the informational needs of an
organization so that a database can be designed to meet those needs.
This step involves:
Constructing the ER Model
Checking the model for redundancy
Validating the model against user transactions to ensure all the scenarios are supported
ER Modelling:
This is a pictorial representation of the real world problem in terms of entities (which have attributes)
and relations between the entities is referred to as ER diagram.
The proposed EMR Model comprises:

EHR Conceptual Information Model
Basically, the EHR conceptual informational model displays an overall high level view of the
relationship between the data concepts found in the HER (Canadian Institute for Health Information
[CIHI, 2011]).
This diagram illustrates the major concepts in the EHR and does not reveal all details. Although the
concepts in the diagram are named in the singular, they represent multiple occurrences and are

How Did Henry Ford Impact Society
Introducing the man who practically built America. Henry Ford was an automobile manufacturer who,
in 1903, established the Ford Motor Company. In 1908, he created the Ford Model T car in the shed
located behind his home. This car was the most popular car of all time due to its cheap prices
(compared to early automobiles) and it s constant availability (Ford Model T). Henry Ford
transformed the automobile from an invention to an innovation and it continues to affect our lives
today. When the Model T was introduced to the people of America, it revolutionized literature forever.
The idea of an affordable car for the everyday man captured the imagination of authors and
filmmakers. Throughout the 1920s, the Model T was featured in dozens of movies, television series,
and books. Even today, thousands of pieces are shown to have cars originate from this American
innovation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a child, Ford was passionate about disassembling and then reassembling timepieces. In 1879, Ford
was an apprentice machinist, where he would operate and service several steam engines. Nine years
later, he became an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company and finally had enough time and
money to experiment with gasoline engines. He invented the Ford Quadricycle, test drove it, and then
began improvements. These improvements led to the making of the Model T, introduced on October 1,
1908. The Model T was just a more basic version of what cars are driven today: steering wheel on the
left, enclosed engine and transmission, four cylinders cast in a solid block. All of this was just eight
hundred and twenty five dollars, which would be twenty two thousand, four hundred and seventy
dollars today. The price dropped every year, so the Model T soon became the best selling vehicle in

The Pros And Cons Of Killer Robots
Background What image comes to mind when one hears the words Killer Robot ? If one visualises the
laser wielding android in Terminator 2 which threatens to overpower its defenceless human
adversaries, one would not be too far from the truth[1]. Today, advanced robots capable of engaging a
human target autonomously are no longer confined to fiction but are instead rapidly becoming a
reality. Killer Robots or, officially, Lethal Autonomous Robots (LARs), are robots that once activated
can operate without any further human intervention. This new weapons system is capable of
identifying and attacking a human target on its own. Delegates should note that these robots differ

Electoral College Research Paper
The electoral college is the process to elect a president by a votes from states. (American Government:
Institutions Policies.) Each state is given the amount of votes, to an elector, based off the number of
representatives in Congress. The minimum amount of votes are three, while the maximum amount of
votes are fifty five.(The Founding Fathers; a Reform Caucus in Action) States are allowed to choose
the electors in the method they see best. Most states, with the exception of Maine and Nebraska, use a
winner takes all system.( The Electoral College: Enlightened Democracy. ) In this process, the
candidate who won the popular election is given all of the electors of that state. Unlike the popular
vote, a candidate must gain the majority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process to create an amendment to repeal the Electoral College will take too long to create
change, as the most common way to change the Constitution is to have two thirds of the House to pass
the proposal, and then have the Senate approve the proposal. Afterwards, it would be sent to the states
for a vote, in which it must be approved by three fourths of the states. (Some Thoughts on the
Electoral College: Past, Present, and Future) This process will take too much time. Additionally, those
who oppose abolishing the Electoral College will try to stop the proposal from advancing. Many
politicians, believe that the Electoral College is very important to the way the leader of the country is
chosen, and that it has barely any faults. In this fashion, representatives who believe in the Electoral
College will not let it be destroyed. The Electoral College will never be abolished, even though it
should, because the process to remove it is too time consuming, and many believe that it is an crucial

An Organization Known As The Comanche Club
IN 1928, when I was nine, I belonged, with maximum esprit de corps, to an organization known as the
Comanche Club. Every schoolday afternoon at three o clock, twenty five of us Comanches were
picked up by our Chief outside the boys exit of P. S. 165, on 109th Street near Amsterdam Avenue. We
then pushed and punched our way into the Chief s reconverted commercial bus, and he drove us
(according to his financial arrangement with our parents) over to Central Park. The rest of the
afternoon, weather permitting, we played football or soccer or baseball, depending (very loosely) on
the season. Rainy afternoons, the Chief invariably took us either to the Museum of Natural History or
to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Chief always found us.)
In his hours of liberation from the Comanches, the Chief was John Gedsudski, of Staten Island. He
was an extremely shy, gentle young man of twenty two or three, a law student at N.Y.U., and
altogether a very memorable person. I won t attempt to assemble his many achievements and virtues
here. Just in passing, he was an Eagle Scout, an almost All America tackle of 1926, and it was known
that he had been most cordially invited to try out for the New York Giants baseball team. He was an
impartial and unexcitable umpire at all our bedlam sporting events, a master fire builder and
extinguisher, and an expert, uncontemptuous first aid man. Every one of us, from the smallest
hoodlum to the biggest, loved and respected him.
The Chief s physical appearance in 1928 is still clear in my mind. If wishes were inches, all of us
Comanches would have had him a giant in no time. The way things go, though, he was a stocky five
three or four no more than that. His hair was blue black, his hair line extremely low, his nose was large
and fleshy, and his torso was just about as long as his legs were. In his leather windbreaker, his
shoulders were powerful, but narrow and sloping. At the time, however, it seemed to me that in the
Chief all the most photogenic features of Buck Jones, Ken Maynard, and Tom Mix had been smoothly

Magazines In Canadian Culture
Strange as it may sound, Canadians truly love they re magazines. According to Magazines Canada
(2012), which is an organization funded by the Canadian government, Canadians read more
magazines per capita than any other nation in the world. This, in and of itself, should show the extent
in which magazines play a part in Canadian culture. In 1960 the Royal Commission on Publications

Time and Reader s Digest took 40 cents out of every dollar of magazine advertising, and that there

My Music Journey
People say that music has the ability to heal a person mentally and spiritually. But to me, music is
much more than just healing. It is a way for me to escape this world called reality and enter a world
with in my imagination through the different beats, harmony, and chorus. Only when listening to
music, I can truly feel all my emotions with each song having the power to make me remember, from
painful to happy memories. As I grew up to be the person I am today, my music journey also grows
with me. Looking back at it now, I would never want to change a single thing.
In 1973, exactly twenty five years prior to my birth, my parents were just in elementary school. They
told me stories about their lives back then but none contained any traces of music. The only stories
about music back in those years were from my grandmother. Back then, my parents grew up in Viet
Nam in a poor family with no televisions so they couldn t really listen to any music growing up.
Although my parents could not listen to music on television like how we can now; they were able to
come to live performances by local artists held at the district s performance center every other month
because the shows were free. My grandmother told me that the music back then was really different
than how it is now. The songs served many purposes to the citizens, it was an encouragement to
soldiers at war, it was the rhythm that put kids to sleep, it was the comfort food for everyone who
listen. Grandma told me the style

country to leave the European Union in a time when other European countries are either in negotiation

As the people are about to vote on their future, there are concerns as what would be the economical,

After the Greek bailout, the people spark protests around Greece, as the British people began to
question their countries membership in the Union. The people saw their tax monies going to help other
countries instead of propelling their own economy out of. As a result of the people s dissatisfaction,
the British government announced that it will hold a referendum to decide if the country leaves the EU
or not. Currently the government is deeply divided on the issue. The Labour Party is against the exit,
while the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats support a British exit or a Brexit . Even though the
two main parties are wrestling control, The United Kingdom Independence Party, or UKIP, has won
the sweeping majority of the seats in the European Parliament. As a result of this election the UKIP,
according to the Guardian will be the influential party in Britain as they now control the European
Parliaments, and since they control the seats, a Brexit will now be impossible to avoid in the European
arena (Harris). According to Tim Oliver s paper Europe without Britain , Mr Oliver says that the only
way for Britain to leave the EU the government needs to negotiate a way out as the Britain and the EU
need to change their regulations to its own as their no longer need to conform to each other s rules
(Oliver 12). So what Mr Oliver is saying is that it is easy to withdraw from EU membership. All the
countries need to do is to set a referendum to let the people decide.

Organizational Leadership Course Analysis
The Organizational course at Concordia University Portland successfully helps individuals internalize
the concepts related to organizational development while guiding one make ethical and moral
decisions as a leader. Through completion of this course, one will come to the realization that being a
successful leader occurs through acquisition of certain traits. Individuals that are not fully equipped to
successfully lead cannot expect to lead effectively. Fullan (2011) lists the seven qualities of change
leaders in his book as; someone who actively participates, is resolute, who motivates, collaborates, a
learner, uses data correctly, and keeps it simple. All those qualities are important in being an effective
leader, however possessing all of those qualities requires one to be a leader who practices different
leadership styles. As a rising leader it is ones duty to make sure that their team feels supported by

Leading by example is a quality of successful and effective leaders. To ensure that one s team

establishes that leaders should continuously elicit the ideas of outside sources to improve situations.
A leader must be aware that their leadership decisions will affect those who they meet and lead daily.
When an individual makes decisions that can ultimately affect me and/or the people around them one

It seems like every week we hear about thousands and thousands of people losing their jobs. Back in
the 1980s most of the job losses were in the blue collar sector. In the 1990s it seems many of the cuts
were made in the white collar, management jobs. Why? Think about it. Technology, to a large extent,
has driven organizations to change the way they operate and that includes the way they manage. We re
going to take an in depth look at how organizations work and how they ve been transformed by
technology on the world stage.
Information systems are the foundation for conducting business today. In many industries, survival
and even existence is difficult without extensive use of information technology. No longer can we
imagine going to work and conducting business without them. As a society we have come to rely
extensively on the use of information appliances such as cell phones, BlackBerrys, handhelds, and

use of e mail, online conferencing, and international teleconferencing over the Internet have all

Summer Camp Research Paper
We need to return them better than they were given to us . It was drilled into our heads from day one
of training, until the Friday of the final week. This was not a statement concerning a materialistic item,
but something of infinitely greater value: the lives of children. You would not expect such a heavy
responsibility from your employment at a summer camp. Everyday, we embarked on adventures that
changed their perspectives on the world around them, just as the summer sunshine was changing the
tone of their skin. It was hard to believe how much the kids had developed over the course of the
summer, and it was even harder to comprehend how my interaction with their childhoods fostered
such a departure from mine. Preparing for this job was not easy: a twenty hour training period was to
be completed weeks before the beginning of camp. Delivered to us trainees from the voices of first
hand witnesses, we were exposed to the horrors of child abuse and the gravity of our roles in
preventing it. Child abuse did not happen mostly in dark alley ways, but in places that are filled with
kids and nearby witnesses, which fit the description of the YMCA summer camps perfectly. Long ...

Cultural Relatedness Paper
Relatedness is the socially recognized ties that connect people in a variety of different ways. It
attempts to understand and record the ways in which people in specific ethnographic contexts
articulate and engage in the relationships that are important to them in everyday life. Relatedness can
take many forms such as friendship, marriage, parenthood, shared links to a common ancestor,
workplace association, just to name a few. These forms can be shared via many different means as
well. They can be shared physically by a body substance such as blood, semen, genes, or mother s
milk. It can be through spiritual means such as soul, spirit, nurturance, or love. You can also have
cases where more than one substance is shared.
2. There are two major strategies humans have used in constructing patterns of descent. The first
strategy involves the descent group being formed by people who believe they are related to each other
by connection made though their mothers and fathers equally. Essentially they believe that they

the digital age. Technology has blended in with daily activity to become a way of life and children
today take for granted all of which is automated. It is hard for kids nowadays to imagine a world that

(paragraph) Children used to actually talk to their real life friends. For today s teenagers and preteens,

whether the quality of their interactions is being diminished without the intimacy and emotional give

teens less interested in face to face conversations, which lead to bad consequences. People who study

Krypton Research Paper
Krypton, the home planet of Superman and the radioactive material, kryptonite... Wait. Wrong
krypton. The krypton we are talking about is the kind you find on the periodic table, and even in many
lighting products, such as gas lasers. Although it is not a planet and can not quite stop the powers of
Superman, the element krypton has some pretty super qualities of its own.
History
Krypton was founded by the Scottish and English chemists, Sir William Ramsay and Morris William
Travers on May 30, 1898 ( The Element Krypton, n.d.). Their goal was to find noble gas elements in
the last unknown 0.05% of air by liquefying and evaporating air (Newton, 2010). Ramsay and Travers
were able to liquefy it by cooling the elements, primarily oxygen, nitrogen and argon, in air to the
point that they changed into a liquid state (around 320.42°F) (Newton, 2010). However, the air
warmed and cause the evaporation of the three main elements, resulting in the discovery of not only
krypton, but additionally xenon and neon (Newton, 2010).
Physical Description Krypton, atomic symbol of Kr, received its name from the Greek word kryptos,
meaning hidden (Newton, 2010). This name is quite fitting seeing as the element is a colorless,
odorless, and tasteless gas ( Krypton, 2007) at room temperature ( The Element ... Show more content

( Krypton, 2007). To put the small percentage into perspective, there are about 8,200 argon atoms,
184,000 oxygen atoms and 685,000 nitrogen atoms for every one krypton atom ( Krypton Element
Facts, n.d.). Krypton is formed in the Earth s crust when radioactive elements, such as uranium, are
broken down, and it is then harvested by liquefying and evaporating air, the same technique in which
it had been discovered (Newton,

Summary Of Martha C. Nussbaum s Anger And Forgiveness
Sometimes people can be angry or furious. However, when the time passes they do not even
remember their anger. Should they stay angry or should they let it go as Martha C. Nussbaum says in
the Anger and Forgiveness book? To answer this question, the notion of anger needs to be explored.
For instance, according to Nussbaum, in the Middle Realm , anger is the domain of life , and affects
the way we spend our lives (p.138). Nussbaum says that we mostly deal with people who we meet
temporarily; it can be at work, at the store or on the street, but we do it on a regular basis. Therefore,
as the author points out, we do not get into a deep relationship with these people in this realm, and this
is a short term situation. Also, Nussbaum says that she finds it easy to transition herself in a non anger
situation with people who she loves. On the other hand, she finds it harder to transition from this
feeling when dealing with irritating strangers (p. 139).
Furthermore, the author agrees with the Stoics that mixture of heterogeneous elements is not worth to
pay attention to. She gives some examples of the heterogeneous elements, which could be improper
termination of employment, negligent medical treatment, harassment on the job, theft, etc. (p.139).
Instead of being angry, Nussbaum suggests Transition (before) or Transition Anger (after). She also
indicates that there is no point in getting further embroiled, mentally and emotionally (p.141). Indeed,
this recommendation is essential for a business world where people have a tendency to get frustrated
fast. By applying Nussbaum s techniques of controlling the anger, businesses can not only improve the
working environment within their companies, but also prevent customers from being angry in various
situations.
A good example of possible applications of Nussbaum s anger techniques is demonstrated in the
article BA says most flights running; angry passengers face delays. People s anger and an inability of
the British Airways company to address the problem lead to negative customers experience and
damaging the company s reputation. In this case, the Middle Realm anger is described which is
usually not important. Even though people are angry, there is nothing

Informative Essay About Country Music
Like any genre of music, country music is famous for its cover tunes. Younger artists paying tribute to
legends, old songs getting a breath of fresh air, or sometimes a song is so great it takes almost every
country artist in Nashville to record it. No matter what the reason, artists will continue to create their
own unique version of timeless country songs. I have complied a list of my top favorite country
covers, why I think they are great, and why you should add them to your country music playlist. Crazy
was made famous in 1962 by Patsy Cline. The running joke in Nashville is How many female country
singers does it take to sing Crazy ? Apparently all of them. I would not argue that countless artists
have covered the song, however when it comes to LeAnn Rimes version of the Cline hit, you can t
help but turn the volume up and forget you re listening to yet another Cline cover. Rimes does a
fantastic job of emulating Cline s vocals note for note. The track stays true to its original format, but
showcases Rimes strong vocal talent, emotions, and ability to create something equally as timeless as
the original. Delta Dawn was made famous by Tanya Tucker in 1972 at the young age of 13. Delta
Dawn has had its fair share of performers since then. In 2012 the song surfaced on Terri Clark s ninth
studio album, Classic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

SOCIO ECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC FEATURES OF KIDNAPPING IN NIGERIA: AN
ANALYTICAL STUDY
Abstract
This study analyzed and reviewed the Nigerian print media coverage of kidnapping cases between
2005 and 2011. The focus of the study was to determine socio economic and demographic features of
kidnapping in Nigeria. Content analysis was adopted for the study as well as use of frequency tables
for analysis of data. Anomie theory of crime based on Robert K. Merton s analysis of Durkheim s
theory provided our theoretical frame work in this analysis. The study argued that a plethora of factors
have been implicated as the causes of kidnapping in Nigeria. This paper recommends that some drastic
measures be taken to nip in the bud the menace of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kidnapping has of recent assumed alarming dimension in the states in Niger Delta region opening up
opportunities and avenues for dangerous socio political degeneration. This has implication on the
social, economic and political development for not only the Niger Delta region in particular but also
for the Nigerian state in general.
The degree of deprivation suffered by the Niger Delta people and the complexities that characterize
their problems made them adopt the various strategies at different times.
By 1990s resistance groups began to emerge. They had a broad ethnic base an epitomized by the
Movement for the survival of the Ogoni people ( MOSOP) and the Movement for the survival of Izon
Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND). They organized rallies, civil disobedience, boycott
of state programmes, violent protests, vandalisation of oil pipelines and wells, hostage takings and
sabotages. These groups later discovered kidnapping as one of the strategies in agitating for their
rights.
OBJECTIVES
The central objective of this study is to analyze socio economic and demographic features of
kidnapping in Nigeria. Specifically, the study seeks to:
1. Examine the categories of people that carry out kidnapping.
2. Categorize the kind of the people being kidnapped.
3. Analyze the bases for causes of kidnapping in Nigeria.
4. Determine the trend of kidnapping within Nigeria.

Hypervisibility And Invisibility Of The Black Body Essay
Hypervisibility and Invisibility of the Black Body in Citizen Citizen, written by Claudia Rankine in
2014, narrates testimonies of systematic racism and every day micro aggressions through poems,
essays, scripts and images. Rankine documents the racist encounters through the second person point
of view for the reader to feel and understand the effects racism has on the body and mind. This paper
will examine hypervisibility and invisibility of the black body embedded in the novel because of
decades of racism. Rankine emphasizes the sensory emotions and feelings of the black body as a
response to America s reluctance to recognize and empathize with black men and women. Citizen s
opening poem sets the tone for reflection. She writes when you are alone and too tired even to turn on
any devices, you let yourself linger a past stacked among your pillows, a self awareness of the events
that will arise in the rest of the text (Rankine 5). Throughout the text, the subject in each testimony
manifests a sense of consciousness towards invisibility of his or her body. In an example of
microaggression, the black woman details an incident in a which a white girl cheats off her test and
takes the initiative in thanking [the woman] for letting her cheat and feels better cheating from an
almost white person (Rankine 5). She erases the blackness of the woman to justify her actions, a
common endeavor in white America s exploitation of the black body. This endeavor is evident of the

If an object is dropped into four compositions (100% water and 0% cornstarch, 75% water and 25%
cornstarch, 50% water and 50% cornstarch, and 25% water and 75% cornstarch), then the 25% water
and 75% cornstarch mixture will create the non Newtonian fluid with the highest level of viscosity
because the mixture is made of particles of cornstarch suspended in water, therefore, the more
particles there are, the harder it will be to shear the fluid. Data that was measured from this experiment
supports the stated hypothesis. Trial one provided insight to the experiment. For the control, the

Out of the trials of the experiment, the hypothesis was predicting that the control would have the
shortest time, the red composition (75% Water, 25% Corn starch) would have the second shortest time,
the yellow mixture (50% Water and 50% Corn starch) would have the second longest time, and the
blue fluid (25% Water and 75% Corn starch) would have the longest time. In trial one, the results did
not behave in the predicted way because the red mixture took 0.05 seconds longer than the yellow
composition. Trials two and five behaved the way the hypothesis predicted. Similarly to trial one, in
trial four the red mixture took 0.11 seconds longer than the yellow. Finally, trial three showed that the
control took 0.07 seconds longer than the red composition. Needless to say, the 25% water and 75%
cornstarch fluid did have the data with the most time because the marble did not submerge within two
minutes. Continuing on, when the data was averaged together, the results became clear. The mean for

The History of Rugby, many believe that Rugby was born in 1823 when William Webb Ellis whilst
spending his time at Rugby school, took the ball in his arms during a game of football and ran with it.
This then became the distinctive future of the Rugby game. Although this is not fact as there is little in

continues to make living with PTSD so overwhelming. Veterans may say, for me, there was no safe

The Cream Thermos At Starbucks
The cream thermos at Starbucks
It was Sunday morning, the first Sunday of spring in Greenville, SC.
I had just received and email containing a much awaited feedback. It was negative. I was
disappointed.
Oh well. Being an adult, I had no right to be so utterly distressed with every broken dream. I had a
husband to attend to, therefore I asked Alan if he would like to go out for breakfast.
In all honesty, if I merely intended to go on living, a radical change was in order. I just didn t know
where to start. Maybe going out for breakfast on a spring Sunday. Maybe stopping to write about my
constant failures and start focusing on success.
I could certainly tell you, that is, tell people outside the U.S., how stunning the beginning of
springtime in this country is. There are fresh strokes of color all over the place, as if a talented painter

looked at it.
We drove to our favorite breakfast joint, a 5 minute drive from our house. House, not home. I hate this
house, Alan had just admitted. I was encouraged to agree. I hated it myself. We ve lived here too long.
The breakfast place was packed, it had a half hour wait. It might be too late for breakfast; or, on the
other hand, this was the exact time for people who went to church, a vast majority in this neck of the
woods, dubbed the Bible belt. Other restaurants would be packed as well, so we postponed coffee for

What Are The Three Branches Of The Federal Government Essay
The United States of America, commonly known as the U.S., is a federal republic that is comprised of

Although each state has their own laws and government structure, the federal government is

Similarities Between Lord Of The Flies And The Hunger Games
District 12. Where you can starve to death in safety (6). This is a quote from the book The Hunger
Games, by Suzanne Collins, and it is a prime example of the dystopian society the book is set in.
Another book set in a dystopian society is Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. The Hunger Games
is a book about a society where every year, 24 people are sent to fight to the death in the Hunger
Games. Lord of the Flies is about a big group of young children getting trapped on an island and
having to figure out how to survive on their own without any adults. Both the novel Lord of The Flies
and the book The Hunger Games present societies that are vicious and cruel, in similar settings, even
though there are some differences between the two stories. One similarity between both books is the
use of fire. At the beginning of Lord of the Flies fire is used to try to give a signal to passing ships that
there are children trapped on the island. If a ship comes near the island they may not be able to notice
us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire (33). At the beginning of
The Hunger Games fire is used to gain the Capitol s attention during the ceremony where all tributes
ride on chariots. I want the audience to recognize you when you re in the arena, says Cinna dreamily.
Katniss, the girl who was on fire (67). In both situations, fire is used to gain attention of people who
will be able to help them in the future, whether it s giving them a gift during the Games, or rescuing
them. However, later on in the stories fire is used differently. At the end of Lord of the Flies, Jack s
group uses fire to try to burn down the forest in order to find and kill Ralph. The fire was a big one
and the drum roll that he had thought had left so far behind was nearer (182). This quote is from a part

Sustainable Tourism In Ugand Principles Of Sustainable...
1. Introduction
Sustainable tourism is a very important element today because it not only meets the needs of the
present but also protecting and increasing opportunities of destinations for the future. Uganda (M.
Semakula M. Kiwanuka, 2017) is a country located in east central Africa, which has diverse
ecosystems such as rainforest jungles, high volcanic mountains on the border or the Albert Nile River
swamps. However, for many years Uganda has stagnated progress and development due to political
problems, environmental degradation and the spread of AIDS epidemic. By the beginning of the 21st
century, Uganda has taken new steps in political stability and gradually resolved its remaining
problems and became Africa s fastest growing economy. This paper is going to discuss about the key
issues and challenges in managing Uganda in term of two principles of sustainable development
(responsibility and responsible citizenship) in context to sustainable host communities and
collaborative partnerships.
2. The key issues and challenges in managing
According to Michael Campbell (Director of University of Manitoba) (Youtube, 2013), the key issues
in Uganda are deforestation and disappearance of some wildlife. Deforestation is an alarming situation
in Uganda. Mr. Michael Campbell mentioned that he was a witness for change in Uganda. During his
first trip to Uganda he still saw rainforest from Mubende to Fort Portal, but recent trips he saw many
forests have been lost and replaced with

The Three Most Common Ways to Displaying Data Essay
While accumulating data is essential to interpreting progress and making progress in future ventures,
the ability to display data is critical. Displaying data allows for a superior understanding of the
information. The three most common ways to visually display data is through the use of pie charts, bar
charts, and line graphs. Pie charts are best used when comparing parts of a whole (Data Driven
Decisions). A disadvantage of using a pie chart is that one will not be able to see changes over time. If
one is trying to best track changes over time bar charts and line graphs will be used. When smaller
changes exist, line graphs are better to use than bar graphs. Line graphs can also be used to compare
changes over the same period of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the chart below, parents will quickly be able to determine how many employees have four years or
more college education as compared to the whole facility. In addition to the previous data displays, we
can also use line graphs to display information such as test score frequency. Parents, students, and
teachers will be best served to test score data by viewing a line graph. This visual display will allow
the audience to view small and quick changes over time. The line graph below shows these small and
quick changes by looking at the frequency of two different test scores over the period of a week. The
final key data display is a bar chart. Like the aforementioned line graph, a bar chat is best utilized to
show changes over time. However the major difference between a line graph and a bar chart is that the
later is exploited to illustrate larger and longer changes over time. Information such as attendance
from the past three months over the previous three years would be best exhibited in a bar chart.
Students, parents, and principals would be able to quickly decipher the data in the bar chart. In
summation, there are three major ways to display data. Pie graphs are excellent displays when
demonstrating parts of a whole. Furthermore line charts are exceptional visual representations of small
and short changes over time. Finally, bar graphs are perfect for displaying larger

Byzantine Empire Dbq Essay
Through the chaos and anarchy from the destruction of Rome emerged a powerful empire. It all began
in 323CE when a young general named Constantine became the Emperor of Rome. He was quick to
make some changes, including moving the imperial capital from Rome to Byzantium, but he renamed
it Constantinople. The Byzantine Empire was separated from the Roman Empire s collapse so it
managed to survive and maintain order in the east. In 1054 the Byzantines split from the Roman
Catholic Church in the west and developed the Eastern Orthodox Church. They prospered for almost a
thousand years, but fell to the Turks in 1453. Byzantine history is often over looked, but there are
many reasons they should be taught about in classrooms including their advanced military technology,
the development and influence of Justinian s code, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They had three walls surrounding their city that withstood Persian and Arab invaders from the East
and Avar and Slav invaders from the North (Doc A). Their technology was so advanced and their
techniques so secure that out of the twenty four efforts made to capture the city during one thousand

Comparing Katushika Hokusai And Emil Nolde s The Great Wave
Both Katushika Hokusai and Emil Nolde were excellent artists; however their techniques, subject
matter, and final appearance are drastically different. In regards to technique Hokusai used the
woodblock printing method, although Emil Nolde used a similar method for his rendition of Prophet ,
it was not cleanly portrayed like The Great Wave . Pertaining to subject matter, Hokusai s The Great
Wave revolves around the seascape of japan and expresses the power of the ocean. Nolde on the other
hand had a religious feel to his piece the Prophet with a great sense of despair. The outcome of their
respective techniques was vastly different. Katushika Hokusai used the woodblock print method to

Essay Risk Management Issue
Risk management is the most important part of any organization to face the risks that might arise
when a new project started. It should be a first concern when the decision is being made. Risk
management is the practice of looking at the exposure to risk and deciding how to best handle that
exposure. The idea behind risk management is to decide if the benefit outweighs the risk. This process
will help you to identify risks that might normally be overlooked so when things come up, they do not
surprise you by having a plan in place on how to solve them.
Risk management would help to identify and then manage threats that could severely impact or bring
down the organization. This could be done by reviewing operations of the organization, ... Show more

themselves or are a danger to themselves, and measures to protect caregivers and loved ones.
LTC facility could protect residents from the dangers of the outside world by having adequate controls
securing the perimeter and managing access to buildings and grounds. It is important to find out
geographical risks and area s crime trends. The grounds assessment should include existing lighting,
fencing, landscaping, and natural surveillance. LTC could also protect their residents by using interior
patrols, front desk management, sing in, and badging.
Elements to consider when assessing threats within LTC environment include current employee
recruitment processes, screening, and background checks, and supervision of employees. The demand
for entry level resident care and custodial workers is high. Staff turnover in these jobs is also high, and
some organizations have chosen to reduce costs by cutting back on references checks that provide
vitally important information about potential employees. These organizations could be under negative
publicity when incidents or accidents occur.
Another concern is the treat that residents may pose to one another. This issue could be addressed by
patient background screening program similar to employee preemployment screening.

can be subdivided into different stages. Very Preterm is 20 32 weeks, Moderately Preterm is 33 36
weeks, Early Term is 37 38 weeks gestation stage. According to the statistics gathered by the World
Health Organisation (WHO) (2015) in 2012, there are more than 1 in 10 babies born preterm every
year with an estimated 15 million born preterm every year. There are a wide variety of factors that
cause preterm birth, examples including: a multiple pregnancy, substance abuse and smoking, assisted
reproduction and a low socio economic status. Studies have also shown that certain ethnicities are at a
higher risk of delivering preterm than others. According to an external study included Nosarti et al

with AOP will also have drops in heart rates (bradycardia) causing them to appear pale or bluish and
their bodies to be limp. The likelihood of a premature infant having AOP is increased as their birth
weight decreases, AOP may begin 2 days after birth however in most cases it clears up after 2 3

Dbq Industrialization
While some might argue that industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because
economic growth, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization s negative effects were
bad living situation, no education for children, and poor salary. During the 1800 s the way people
lived was not quite how we live today. Although some may argue that the way they lived back then
was so much easier it actually caused a lot of humans to perish. Not only did they die from diseases,
but also because there was a lack of sanitization. Industrial growth brought with it a host of

Families were expected to survive off of little to no money in the past which is a huge negative in the
Industrial Revolution. These days in our generation some families still don t have jobs or money to

you live now? In the poorhouse , (Document 7). The importance of this quote is major. If you analyze

humans didn t have enough to eat for themselves, let alone provide food or clothing for their family. A
stranger am I to my child; and he on to me , (Document 2). This supports as a negative because a

it shows how she is constantly working so that her son can have food and clothes on his

Unconditional Promise
On instances when a stipulation s condition on a conditional promise to give is remotely possible to be
accomplished, that will be considered as unconditional (FASB ASC 958 605 25 12). According to
FASB ASC 958 605 25 14, in circumstances with unclear stipulations that are not clearly
unconditional shall be presumed to be a conditional promise. FASB ASC 958 605 25 15 further
explains that a lack of a designated time to transfer the asset, by itself, shall not deem to be an
ambiguous transaction. An intent to give that is tacit about payment stipulations but otherwise are
obviously without condition shall be understood as an unconditional promise to give. Contributions
received shall be recognized as revenues or gains in the period received and as assets, decreases of
liabilities, or expenses depending on the form of the benefits received (FASB ASC 958 605 25 2).

have made it more comfortable to travel from one place to another, and now are offering reasonable

The main air travel market in terms of passenger trips will continue to be in and between North
America, Europe and Asia. Events at the international level, affects the air travel business directly. For
instance, during the first half of the 1990 s, the airline industry suffered a lot because of world
recession. The Gulf War also affected the air travel during this time. Profitability of the airline industry
is closely related to the economic growth and world trade. During 1990 to 1994, the member airlines
of the International Airport Transport Association suffered cumulative net losses of $20.4 billion.
After this, the member airlines realized that if they want to survive and become profitable, it is
essential for them to bring drastic changes. Without bringing changes, it is not possible for them to
become prosperous. Many actions are being taken. Some airlines tried to cut costs, increase the load
factors etc. Many airlines tried to reduce the capacity growth. These efforts helped a lot to the industry
in gaining profitable position, which existed earlier. In the year 1996, the member airlines recorded a
profit of $5 billion, which was only 2 percent less than the total revenues. According to the

Statistics and Psychology
Statistics and Psychology Paper There are numerous applications of statistical reasoning and research
methods in the field of psychology. From simple aspects of reading and interpreting psychology
articles, to completing personal research, statistics is a necessary concept to understand. The scientific
method is essential to research, and many of the concepts cross the lines into statistics. It is also
imperative for us to compare and contrast the characteristics of primary and secondary data.
Ultimately, the focus of these topics centers on the application of statistical reasoning in psychology.
Statistics in Psychology One might ask themselves how mathematical concepts could possibly apply
to psychology. The answer is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondary data is published data, or data collected by others (Triola, 2010). Primary data is preferred
in research because the knowledge is obtained first hand, where secondary relies on the observations
of others. For instance, more accurate results in a weight study will come from the direct weighing of
the patients than asking them their weight.
Statistics in Research Psychologists use univariate principles when they measure only one variable
and multivariate procedure when using variables to ascertain relationships (Chow, 2002).
Psychologists often use statistics to identify areas of research interest. In testing a hypothesis, many
researchers need to turn questions into testable numerical data. One of the most common statistics
applications is the testing of the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis involves the original claim like
50 out of 100 patients see success in regression techniques to overcome phobias and turning it into a
mathematical claim (µ = 50). The alternative hypothesis represents the difference of a claim, or the
probability that it is untrue because the test statistic is outside the given range (µ ≠ 50). These claims
are tested, and if it is found that less than 50 patients saw success with regression techniques, then
researchers are able to use statistical reasoning to disprove the statement. Overall, statistical reasoning
is extremely important in the interpretation of research results

My Reflection On My Nursing Journey
My Nursing Journey I once heard someone say, Find something you love to do and you ll always be
successful. If you want to be in a field where you are continually learning, nursing would be the top
pick. This paper will reflect the journey I have taken from Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of
Science in Nursing (BSN) with the incorporation of my learning objectives from my clinical course.
Although, I ve been in healthcare for over 20 years, working as a medical assistant, I believe my
journey truly began with nursing school. It is one thing to do a job that you have been shown to do,
but it becomes different as I now understand why these processes are done as well as the physiological
implications. The journey to get to this point had felt like a lifelong one with many disappointments
and struggles along the way. However because of the knowledge I now have, I wouldn t change a
thing as I consider it extremely valuable.
My clinical experience for this semester was an opportunity to follow the house supervisor at Trios
Healthcare in Kennewick, WA. The courses at Washington State University (WSU) consisting of
leadership and management have taught me the value of collaboration as well as communication. With
the opportunity to follow the house supervisor I was able to apply this knowledge to my clinical
experience. This was especially good because one of my learning objectives was to participate in the
management of admissions and transferring patients in the

Van Winkle Literary Devices
Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we ve
been waiting for. We are the change that we seek Barack Obama. Throughout the short story Van
Winkle by Washington Irving, the author uses imagery by putting the reader in Rip s shoes as he
undergoes a deep 20 year slumber where he enters his slumber as an antagonist and comes out as a
protagonist, showing the story s major theme is time and how time can change people.
First off, Rip Van Winkle is a man who felt more sorrow than anger is his everyday life. He takes his
strife out on his community which earns him the reputation as a lazy man. For example, He, however,
was apt to ride his hobby his own way; and though it did now and then kick up dust a little in the eyes
of his neighbor s, and friends the spirit of some friends, for whom felt the follies are remembered
more in sorrow than anger. The reader begins to suspect that he never intended to injure or offend.

Lancet Oncology, 16(6), 695 703 9pID: 109800911BACKGROUND: Treatment options for advanced, well differentiated neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) remain scarce. Pazopanib is an orally bioavailable, small molecule, multitargeted kinase inhibitor that inhibits VEGF receptors 1, 2, and 3. We did a study of the efficacy of pazopanib with depot octreotide in patients with advanced NETs. METHODS: We did a parallel cohort study of patients with metastatic or locally advanced grade 1 2 carcinoid tumours or pancreatic NETs, by use of a single group, two stage design. Patients received pazopanib 800 mg orally once per day and octreotide at their preprotocol dosage. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients achieving an objective response, as assessed by investigators, by intention to treat analysis. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT00454363, and was completed in March, 2014. FINDINGS: Between April 12, 2007, and July 2, 2009, we enrolled 52 patients, including 32 individuals with pancreatic NETs and 20 individuals with carcinoid tumours. • 6. How Did Henry Ford Impact Society Introducing the man who practically built America. Henry Ford was an automobile manufacturer who, in 1903, established the Ford Motor Company. In 1908, he created the Ford Model T car in the shed located behind his home. This car was the most popular car of all time due to its cheap prices (compared to early automobiles) and it s constant availability (Ford Model T). Henry Ford transformed the automobile from an invention to an innovation and it continues to affect our lives today. When the Model T was introduced to the people of America, it revolutionized literature forever. The idea of an affordable car for the everyday man captured the imagination of authors and filmmakers. Throughout the 1920s, the Model T was featured in dozens of movies, television series, and books. Even today, thousands of pieces are shown to have cars originate from this American innovation. ... In 1879, Ford was an apprentice machinist, where he would operate and service several steam engines. Nine years later, he became an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company and finally had enough time and money to experiment with gasoline engines. He invented the Ford Quadricycle, test drove it, and then began improvements. These improvements led to the making of the Model T, introduced on October 1, 1908. The Model T was just a more basic version of what cars are driven today: steering wheel on the left, enclosed engine and transmission, four cylinders cast in a solid block. All of this was just eight hundred and twenty five dollars, which would be twenty two thousand, four hundred and seventy dollars today. The price dropped every year, so the Model T soon became the best selling vehicle in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If one visualises the laser wielding android in Terminator 2 which threatens to overpower its defenceless human adversaries, one would not be too far from the truth[1]. Today, advanced robots capable of engaging a human target autonomously are no longer confined to fiction but are instead rapidly becoming a reality. Killer Robots or, officially, Lethal Autonomous Robots (LARs), are robots that once activated can operate without any further human intervention. Each state is given the amount of votes, to an elector, based off the number of representatives in Congress. The minimum amount of votes are three, while the maximum amount of votes are fifty five.(The Founding Fathers; a Reform Caucus in Action) States are allowed to choose the electors in the method they see best. The process to create an amendment to repeal the Electoral College will take too long to create change, as the most common way to change the Constitution is to have two thirds of the House to pass the proposal, and then have the Senate approve the proposal. (Some Thoughts on the Electoral College: Past, Present, and Future) This process will take too much time. Additionally, those who oppose abolishing the Electoral College will try to stop the proposal from advancing. Many politicians, believe that the Electoral College is very important to the way the leader of the country is chosen, and that it has barely any faults. Every schoolday afternoon at three o clock, twenty five of us Comanches were picked up by our Chief outside the boys exit of P. S. 165, on 109th Street near Amsterdam Avenue. We then pushed and punched our way into the Chief s reconverted commercial bus, and he drove us (according to his financial arrangement with our parents) over to Central Park. Just in passing, he was an Eagle Scout, an almost All America tackle of 1926, and it was known that he had been most cordially invited to try out for the New York Giants baseball team. He was an impartial and unexcitable umpire at all our bedlam sporting events, a master fire builder and extinguisher, and an expert, uncontemptuous first aid man. Every one of us, from the smallest hoodlum to the biggest, loved and respected him. The Chief s physical appearance in 1928 is still clear in my mind. If wishes were inches, all of us Comanches would have had him a giant in no time. The way things go, though, he was a stocky five three or four no more than that. His hair was blue black, his hair line extremely low, his nose was large and fleshy, and his torso was just about as long as his legs were. In his leather windbreaker, his shoulders were powerful, but narrow and sloping. According to Magazines Canada (2012), which is an organization funded by the Canadian government, Canadians read more magazines per capita than any other nation in the world. • 11. My Music Journey People say that music has the ability to heal a person mentally and spiritually. But to me, music is much more than just healing. It is a way for me to escape this world called reality and enter a world with in my imagination through the different beats, harmony, and chorus. Only when listening to music, I can truly feel all my emotions with each song having the power to make me remember, from painful to happy memories. As I grew up to be the person I am today, my music journey also grows with me. Looking back at it now, I would never want to change a single thing. In 1973, exactly twenty five years prior to my birth, my parents were just in elementary school. They told me stories about their lives back then but none contained any traces of music. The only stories about music back in those years were from my grandmother. Back then, my parents grew up in Viet Nam in a poor family with no televisions so they couldn t really listen to any music growing up. This was not a statement concerning a materialistic item, but something of infinitely greater value: the lives of children. You would not expect such a heavy responsibility from your employment at a summer camp. Everyday, we embarked on adventures that changed their perspectives on the world around them, just as the summer sunshine was changing the tone of their skin. It was hard to believe how much the kids had developed over the course of the summer, and it was even harder to comprehend how my interaction with their childhoods fostered such a departure from mine. Preparing for this job was not easy: a twenty hour training period was to be completed weeks before the beginning of camp. Delivered to us trainees from the voices of first hand witnesses, we were exposed to the horrors of child abuse and the gravity of our roles in preventing it. The krypton we are talking about is the kind you find on the periodic table, and even in many lighting products, such as gas lasers. Although it is not a planet and can not quite stop the powers of Superman, the element krypton has some pretty super qualities of its own. History Krypton was founded by the Scottish and English chemists, Sir William Ramsay and Morris William Travers on May 30, 1898 ( The Element Krypton, n.d.). Their goal was to find noble gas elements in the last unknown 0.05% of air by liquefying and evaporating air (Newton, 2010). Ramsay and Travers were able to liquefy it by cooling the elements, primarily oxygen, nitrogen and argon, in air to the point that they changed into a liquid state (around 320.42°F) (Newton, 2010). However, the air warmed and cause the evaporation of the three main elements, resulting in the discovery of not only krypton, but additionally xenon and neon (Newton, 2010). Physical Description Krypton, atomic symbol of Kr, received its name from the Greek word kryptos, meaning hidden (Newton, 2010). • 21. Summary Of Martha C. Nussbaum s Anger And Forgiveness Sometimes people can be angry or furious. However, when the time passes they do not even remember their anger. Should they stay angry or should they let it go as Martha C. Nussbaum says in the Anger and Forgiveness book? To answer this question, the notion of anger needs to be explored. For instance, according to Nussbaum, in the Middle Realm , anger is the domain of life , and affects the way we spend our lives (p.138). Nussbaum says that we mostly deal with people who we meet temporarily; it can be at work, at the store or on the street, but we do it on a regular basis. Therefore, as the author points out, we do not get into a deep relationship with these people in this realm, and this is a short term situation. Also, Nussbaum says that she finds it easy to transition herself in a non anger situation with people who she loves. On the other hand, she finds it harder to transition from this feeling when dealing with irritating strangers (p. 139). Furthermore, the author agrees with the Stoics that mixture of heterogeneous elements is not worth to pay attention to. She gives some examples of the heterogeneous elements, which could be improper termination of employment, negligent medical treatment, harassment on the job, theft, etc. (p.139). Instead of being angry, Nussbaum suggests Transition (before) or Transition Anger (after). She also indicates that there is no point in getting further embroiled, mentally and emotionally (p.141). Indeed, this recommendation is essential for a business world where people have a tendency to get frustrated fast. By applying Nussbaum s techniques of controlling the anger, businesses can not only improve the working environment within their companies, but also prevent customers from being angry in various situations. A good example of possible applications of Nussbaum s anger techniques is demonstrated in the article BA says most flights running; angry passengers face delays. This is the factor that continues to make living with PTSD so overwhelming. Veterans may say, for me, there was no safe place, even my home (Phillips, 2014). Insecurity is not the only aspect that overwhelms the mind, many other symptoms of the disease are just as horrific. I couldn t close my eyes without envisioning the face of my attacker. I suffered horrific flashbacks and nightmares, and four years after the attack I was unable to sleep in my house alone (Phillips, 2014). in cases like this, the effects of PTSD later find its ways to literally dictate the lives of veterans and many other victims. (BS 1) In the novel, Under the Persimmon Tree, the author, Suzanne Fisher Staples, creates character development in Najmah by using information about how Afghans became refugees during the historical Taliban war. (BS 2) The author also uses the hardships of travel the Afghans experienced as the foundation of an external conflict Najmah suffers through on her way to Torkhum. (BS 3) The author even shows Nusrat s generosity towards her refugee pupils by applying the poor conditions of the camps the refugees lived through. (TS) In Under the Persimmon Tree, by Suzanne Fisher Staples, the author uses realistic information about Afghan refugees to create literary meaning in the novel within the stories of Najmah and Nusrat. (MIP 1) The author creates literary meaning, in the form of character development in Najmah, by using information about how Afghan people became refugees during the Taliban war. (SIP A) Akhtar and Najmah become refugees themselves, and go to the refugee camps in Torkhum, simply because the Taliban war causes them, and many other Afghans at the point in history, to flee Afghanistan. (STEWE 1) The war with the Taliban after 9/11 is the key reason why many Afghans, even those in the novel, escaped and became refugees. • 31. The Cream Thermos At Starbucks The cream thermos at Starbucks It was Sunday morning, the first Sunday of spring in Greenville, SC. I had just received and email containing a much awaited feedback. It was negative. I was disappointed. Oh well. Being an adult, I had no right to be so utterly distressed with every broken dream. I had a husband to attend to, therefore I asked Alan if he would like to go out for breakfast. In all honesty, if I merely intended to go on living, a radical change was in order. I just didn t know where to start. Maybe going out for breakfast on a spring Sunday. Maybe stopping to write about my constant failures and start focusing on success. I could certainly tell you, that is, tell people outside the U.S., how stunning the beginning of springtime in this country is. There are fresh strokes of color all over the place, as if a talented painter had just woken up and put his hands to work. Nature. Maybe God. Uplifting, from every angle you looked at it. We drove to our favorite breakfast joint, a 5 minute drive from our house. House, not home. I hate this house, Alan had just admitted. I was encouraged to agree. I hated it myself. We ve lived here too long. The breakfast place was packed, it had a half hour wait. This is a quote from the book The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, and it is a prime example of the dystopian society the book is set in. Another book set in a dystopian society is Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. The Hunger Games is a book about a society where every year, 24 people are sent to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. Lord of the Flies is about a big group of young children getting trapped on an island and having to figure out how to survive on their own without any adults. Both the novel Lord of The Flies and the book The Hunger Games present societies that are vicious and cruel, in similar settings, even though there are some differences between the two stories. One similarity between both books is the use of fire. At the beginning of Lord of the Flies fire is used to try to give a signal to passing ships that there are children trapped on the island. If a ship comes near the island they may not be able to notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire (33). At the beginning of The Hunger Games fire is used to gain the Capitol s attention during the ceremony where all tributes ride on chariots. I want the audience to recognize you when you re in the arena, says Cinna dreamily. Katniss, the girl who was on fire (67). In both situations, fire is used to gain attention of people who will be able to help them in the future, whether it s giving them a gift during the Games, or rescuing them. However, later on in the stories fire is used differently. At the end of Lord of the Flies, Jack s group uses fire to try to burn down the forest in order to find and kill Ralph. The fire was a big one and the drum roll that he had thought had left so far behind was nearer (182). This quote is from a part when Ralph is hiding in the currently burning down forest, trying to escape from Jack. In The Hunger Games, fire is used to burn down part of the arena for the Games, in order to bring Katniss closer to the other tributes. This fire is designed to flush us out, to drive us together (173). One difference between the two books is the idea of unique appearances. In Lord of the Flies, there is the ... Primary data is preferred in research because the knowledge is obtained first hand, where secondary relies on the observations of others. For instance, more accurate results in a weight study will come from the direct weighing of the patients than asking them their weight. Statistics in Research Psychologists use univariate principles when they measure only one variable and multivariate procedure when using variables to ascertain relationships (Chow, 2002). Psychologists often use statistics to identify areas of research interest. In testing a hypothesis, many researchers need to turn questions into testable numerical data. One of the most common statistics applications is the testing of the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis involves the original claim like 50 out of 100 patients see success in regression techniques to overcome phobias and turning it into a mathematical claim (µ = 50). The alternative hypothesis represents the difference of a claim, or the probability that it is untrue because the test statistic is outside the given range (µ ≠ 50).
