Essay on Concord Bookstore
Concord Bookstore
University of Phoenix
Creating Change within Organizations HCS587
David Harrell
16 January, 2012 *
The Concord Bookshop is a small town bookstore with a 64 year history and a cultural appeal enjoyed
by the citizens of the town. In recent years the economic environment created fierce competition for
the bookstore, coupled with a need for innovative technology meant a need for restructuring. The
financial status of the bookshop was in grave distress. Fearing financial ruin the board members made
a unanimous decision to implement significant changes. However, the board did not take the necessary
steps of including the appropriate stakeholders in the change process and obtaining employee support.

Behaviour Change Change can be successful if a company or group within the organization changes
the way an individual presents oneself (Spector, 2010). Behavior change is based on how an
individual works within the environment. The employees of Concord Bookshop were not consulted
therefore did not have an opportunity to verbalize their concerns or provide input to assist the
company to move the bookstore in a new direction. The management team was aware of the financial
distress and was willing to participate in any financial changes required. The employees of the
bookstore had an abundance of knowledge and experience that may have contributed to ending
financial turmoil (Schein, 2011). Open dialogue between the employees and owners may have
facilitated the development and collaboration of new ideas in a competitive environment. The new
strategies could have provided a new direction for the bookstore. According to Burnes, in discussing
Kurt Lewin s Change Model, for change to be effective within a group there has to be a collective
approach by each member of the group (2004).
Conclusion
The Concord Bookshop was a well respected historical bookstore facing financial challenges. While
the bookstore employed knowledgeable and dedicated employees, the owners and board members did
not engage

Amylase Lab Report
The results in Figure 1, supported both the hypothesis as well as the predictions because the graph
depicts how the differences in temperature changed the enzyme activity of amylase. The results
concluded that as temperature deviates from optimal temperature amylase will hydrolyze starch at a
lower rate. At 5 and 70 degrees Celsius amylase took longer to hydrolyze starch compared to 25 and
40 degrees Celsius. The results also supported the prediction that at 40 degrees Celsius, enzymes will
break down starch at a faster rate than at 5 degrees Celsius, 25 degrees Celsius, or 70 degrees Celsius.
The results showed 40 degrees Celsius as the optimum temperature for the hydrolysis of starch
because 40 degrees Celsius is close to the body s temperature. Amylase denatures at 70 to 80 degrees
Celsius which causes the enzyme to become damaged and can no longer hydrolyze the starch. The
results of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Living organisms are dependent on the use of enzymes to speed up biochemical reactions. Enzymes
will catalyze one specific chemical reaction since they have a unique three dimensional shape that
allows one substrate to bind to the active site. The enzyme Amylase is found in human saliva that
speed up the hydrolysis of starch into smaller carbohydrate molecules. When humans are sleep
deprived there is an increase in amylase and this study done by Räikkönen shows that short sleep
duration in both children and adults correlates to an increase in amylase. Compared to girls, boys were
found to have a lower efficiency and shorter duration of sleep compared to girls. This study offers
insight on how poor sleep is associated with poor health because children and adults with high levels
of the enzyme amylase also have an increase in stress. . Further testing could lead to a better
understanding of how sleep wake cycles and their genetic makeup affects the enzyme amylase
production. (Räikkönen et al.,

Freuds Interpretation of Dreams
Many will argue that Freud s ideas have exerted a profound influence on twentieth century thought
and culture, though his work has come under scrutiny, it has shape the fundamentals of society view
on civilization and discontents, dreams, psychoanalysis and the unconscious. For this paper, I will be
discussing Freud s fundamentals of dreams, what dreams represents, how dreams are constructed and
its significance while paying close attention to the following areas of dreams, manifest and latent
content, condensation and displacement, and censorship and repression.
First, let examined the definition of dream according to Sigmund Freud dream is the disguised
fulfilment of a repressed wish. Dreams are constructed like a neurotic symptom: ... Show more content

Hence, manifest and latent content are connected because the dreamer have to first remember the
dream before he or she can break down and make sense of it.
Third, Sigmund Freud thought dreams had motives and there meaning is other than it appears on the
surface. Dreams are disguised by condensation and displacement. Condensation is a thought expressed
in the optative has been replaced by a representation in the present tense (Freud, 151). In simpler
terms, dream condensation is complex meaning compressed into a simpler one. While dream
displacement is concealing the meaning of a dream and to make the connections between the dream
content and the dream thoughts unrecognisable (Freud, 155). When we rationalise this, it is merely
stating that dream content is derived from the dream thoughts and when an individual awakes the
content of the dream may not be clear due to condensation and displacement. Often with dream
displacement, for the dream content to be clear there has to be a linkage to something that corresponds
to it. Freud also stated that, we assume as a matter of course that the most distinct element in the
manifest content of dream is the most important one; but in fact owing to displacement that has
occurred it is often an indistinct element which turns out to be the most direct derivative of the
essential dream thoughts (Freud, 155). This shows that it is not the content of the dream, which is
remembered, that is most significant but the

Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Analysis
Times seem to be so tough when no one has control over the things they can say or even do. In the
Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, Fredrick Douglass writes about his journey of being
practically dumb, beaten, and often mistreated. Douglass is a person whom I can personally relate to,
because we have so many similarities. He is a goal driven determined man, and that s how I consider
myself. The fact that Douglass cannot read or write is very astonishing to me, for the simple fact that I
have never read about anything about him. Douglass appears to not know his birthday or even his age;
wouldn t it only be right to tell the slaves about themselves since they are already getting their
freedom taken away? I have had family members who

Citizen Kane Analysis
Citizen Kane is a movie that can be rewritten and implemented into any film created today. In many
ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each one of us
who has ever wished for a blah blah life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah to his
political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kane owes a great deal to Orson
Welles because of the way he used music, shadows and lighting, and special effects, which without a
doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its time
because Orson Welles was the first to implement these techniques, which revolutionize cinema
forever.
It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many reasons is
because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope of its subject
(The Denny Life) to keep cost down. One of the methods that revolutionize cinematography was the
introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep focus is the use of having
everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time contrary to having only the
people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life). Moreover, the deep focus technique
requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition, and type of camera lens to produce
the desired effect. For example, Orson Welles use this technique in several occasions

Analysis Of The Raid By Leo Tolstoy
While reading The Raid by Leo Tolstoy, one is instantly struck by the strong contrast between the
peaceful nature scenes and the violent battle scenes. One minute the sounds of crickets and frogs are
charmingly echoing through the night, and the next you can hear the clang of a heavy gun and the
sound of bayonets touching one another (Tolstoy 20). In one scene, the generals and majors stand
watching the gory battle below, yet they continue to discuss the beautiful nature around them as if
nothing else could possibly be worth their attention (Tolstoy 25). However, upon closer readings, it
becomes evident that the war and nature scenes are not as separate as they seem. As the story
progresses, the two begin to weave together, until distinguishing them is nearly impossible. Indeed,
this subtly merger can be seen throughout multiple scenes as the story evolves. From the start, nature
and war are both extremely prominent in the story. But, they are presented separately from each other.
The best example of this is on page thirteen. The sun had done half its journey, and cast its hot rays
through the glowing air onto the dry earth...the motionless air seemed full of transparent dust, the heat
was becoming unbearable (Tolstoy 13). This entire paragraph describes the nature all around the
marching soldiers. Then, it is followed by a separate paragraph: Half way on their march the troops
reached a small stream and halted. The soldiers stacked their muskets and rushed to the

The Chinese People s Liberation Army Essay
The Chinese People s Liberation Army: Ground Forces (PLAGF) began a massive military
modernization in the 1980 s and they have been continually reforming their training and education of
their ground forces ever since. Senior officials within the People s Liberation Army recognized that
improving the military skills and raising the education levels of both officers and troops alike were
necessary prerequisites if they wanted to be able to utilize more advanced weaponry and fight in this
day and age.
During the modernization of the People s Liberation Army funding was increased for military
education, the study of foreign militaries was incorporated into their training curriculum and contacts
with foreign military academies was increased. The leadership of the PLA focused their education
reforms on the military academy system. They also changed the scope of their training from being
highly politicized and emphasized in single unit infantry troop training, to concentrating on training
officers capable of directing combined arms warfare.
The Revival of the military academies system began in 1978, which the Cultural Revolution had
devastated. (Mao Zedong china s communist leader launched his plan to reassert his authority over the
Chinese government which is known as the cultural revolution.) By 1984 the military academy system
had over a hundred institutions that consisted of two kinds of schools: command schools and
specialized technical training centers. The rejuvenation of

The Moral Ambivalence Of Crime And Criminology
Crime and Criminology Essay
It is common knowledge that crime exists all over the world and that justice and punishment may vary
in different countries and societies. However, how justice and punishment is enforced in a society and
globally is not common knowledge. Global justice refers to the belief that the world is unjust; while
social justice, in a manner of speaking, refers to the fair treatment of everyone in a society.( Social
Justice ). Both social and global justice value human rights, remove inequality, and holds people
accountable for fair practices.( Social Justice ). If someone commits the same crime as another person,
for example, they should receive the same punishment. That is what most people would be inclined to
believe, but in the reading The Moral Ambivalence of Crime in an Unjust Society by Jeffrey Reiman,
crime and justice is reviewed and defined in an uncommon way. Reiman discusses justice in a society
where a crime was committed against him and his wife. A visit to France should be like a dream come
true, an experience of a lifetime, but for Jeffrey Reiman and his wife it was not. In the summer of
2005, they visited a town called Nice. After traveling all night, the couple picked up a car that they
were leasing for the summer. Before they could lock the doors to the car or even enjoy any of the
accommodations, they were victimized. There, in the city of Nice, they have a crime called vol a la
portiere, theft through the door. This

Spectrophotometer Lab
Introduction:
A spectrophotometer is an instrument that measures the quantitative amounts of light of different
wavelengths absorbed and transmitted by a pigment solution (Mitchell, Reece). The
spectrophotometer includes a light bulb, a reflector, and a detector. When a sample is in place and the
chamber lid is closed, light from the light bulb passes through it. The detector measures the amount of
light transmitted. The white light from the bulb is separated into different wavelengths by reflecting
the beam off of a diffraction grating, forming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5) The wavelength was set to zero nm using the wavelength control knob. 6) The transmittance
percent and absorption were recorded from the
Transmittance/Absorbance scale.
7) It was often checked that the meter needle readss 0 on the %
Transmittance scale with the sample compartment empty and the lid closed. 8) Steps 1 8 were
repeated using the wavelengths of 360 nm to 900 nm, at every 20 nm.
Observations:

Personal Statement On Family Assessment
On November 2, 2016 I drove to Wittier, CA to meet the Galagar family for the third and final family
assessment. To prepare, I utilized Wright and Leahey (2013) Nurses and Families: A guide to Family
Assessment and Interventions textbook in order to guide me in further assessing this family s dynamic
and especially their behavior towards each other as well as guide me in developing a strategy to
conclude my Family Assessment project. It is important to state that assessment of this family
dynamic was taken into account at each of the three meetings, however more so during this meeting
via engaging the Galagers in a game of Sorry and Connect 4. These games were strategically chosen
to allow Galager s youngest daughter, Laura, diagnosed with developmental disability be a participant.
This field note is my reflection not only on my meeting, which will address the Galager Family Power
Diagram, and the Family Attachment diagram, but also my reflection on my growth and development
as a soon to be Advance Practice Nurse.
Once again, I met Galagers in the evening, as it was convenient for everyone. All members of the
family were home, including the three dogs that were barking as I entered the house. This time, to say
thank you for allowing me to work with them, I encouraged the family to order a pizza for which I
paid. This was also a strategy to see how they would accommodate each other while making a choice
for pizza. Additionally, I brought two games with me, Sorry and Connect

Coyotes Vs Wolf Research Paper
Coyotes vs Wolves Wolves and coyotes are very smart animals. They have extremely good eyesight
and sense of smell. They can hear calls from very far away and they both have dog like appearance,
but although wolves and coyotes are very similar physically, they have very little in common in terms
of social behavior. Starting with the differences between coyotes and wolves their habitat is the chief
difference. Coyotes are often considered intelligent and adaptable. They can be found in any variety of
habitats including forests, deserts, prairies, mountains, agricultural areas, and urban areas. They can
adapt to a wide variety of environments, sometimes they can be found in some human habitats, ...

Wolves are pack animals. Only the alpha pair in each pack breeds. Coyotes are less company lovers,
and all individual coyotes breed if they re able to find a mate. Although coyotes occasionally form
family unit packs, it s not their main lifestyle as it is for wolves. Coyotes pair for a number of years,
and then change mates. Wolves usually mate for life and both parents take care of the young. The
coyotes mate between February and April and the gestation period lasts 60 to 63 days. The pups are
born blind. Their eyes open after about 14 days. The pups live and play until they are six to ten weeks
old and within a year, they go their own way, staking out their own territory. While the wolves mate
typically between January and March and the gestation period lasts 63 days. Pups are born blind and
defenseless also. The pack cares for the pups until they fully mature at about 10 months of age when
they can hunt on their own. Once grown, young wolves may disperse. The last difference between
wolves and coyotes is the way to communicate between them. Coyotes communicate in many ways to
each other and howling is the most common way of communication. A howl is high pitched and eerie,
and is often heard at night. Howling is used to gather other coyotes and to inform others of their
location. Whereas, wolves howl to communicate with the other members of the pack and other packs.
They also howl to attract mates and when they sense any danger, to bring a pack back together and to
keep strangers

Essay on Unraveling the Issues of Compensated Organ Donations
Introduction
Compensated organ donations one of the most controversial issues we have today. The scarcity of
organ donations in America is the main reason there is a sudden diversion of possible source of
organs. Beginning with donations of organs from cadaver to living donors, different strategies sprung
just to reduce the said shortage; as a result of this quest, sale and paid organs is one of the approaches
that gathered too much attention from the public. The controversy of paid organ donations entered the
limelight when the state of Wisconsin offered incentives to the living donors. This law, which was
created in the year 2004, grants tax deduction and repayment of donation expenses such as travel cost
and lost earnings. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, it also violates human dignity because it treats the organs and human body parts as
commodities. Not to mention the fact that such action weakens and demoted altruism. However, the
real picture of compensated organ donations is actually the opposite of unethical and self interest ; it
promotes life and therefore regarded as a good and moral deed. Organ Donation s Supply and Demand
Knowing the rate of supply and demand of organ donation helps in establishing a clear background
about the issue. For instance, Monti (2009) explained the reality of supply and demand of kidneys.
The supply of this organ coming from deceased and altruistic donors are not enough to support the
demand of those individuals who are in need. Approximately there are 73,000 people who wait for
kidney donations and 18 of those who are in the wait list will die by tomorrow. Accordingly, the list is
being added by 6,000 individuals every year. An individual has to wait for five years before he/she can
get an organ donation. The facts and figures presented by Monti shows that there is a big gap between
the supply and demand of organ donations . The Center for Bioethics (2004) gave supplementary
details on the issue of organ shortage. In their article ethics of organ transplantation they said that
United Network for Organ Sharing or UNOS keeps a comprehensive figure on the present status of
people who need organ transplants and presently there more than

Trip To Haiti
In the fall of 2014 I was presented with the opportunity to go on a missions trip to Zambia. We had a
few meetings about this trip and interest grew. Next thing I knew it was March of 2015 and I was
headed off to Haiti. Plans had changed but I could never have imagined what great impact this would
have on my life. Haiti is not know for much but it is known for being poor. This might dissuade
people from visiting, but for me it was exactly what I needed. We got to Haiti and even in the airport
saw the people desperate for money to feed themselves and their families. We took a ten passenger
plane up the mountain and as we flew we were able to see the poverty in the towns below. There were
houses made up of four corner poles with a tin roofs. The destruction from the earthquake still had not

Write a short essay critically and concisely discussing the binding sources of law in modern Ireland.
Binding sources of law in Irish law are the sources created by the binding authorities, that is to say the
rules which must be followed in adjudication. Adjudication is the fact that the judicial decision is
binding on the parties involved in a case. Binding authorities must be distinguished from persuasive
authorities. Sources coming from persuasive authorities can eventually be followed in certain

By a legislative act, Irish courts are allowed to use this jurisprudence in Irish law. So the European law
is superior to the Irish Constitution, International law, Irish legislation and Irish case law. The second
most important and binding source of law in Irish law is the Irish Constitution. The Constitution of
Ireland is the basic law of the State. It was adopted by plebiscite in 1937. It is the successor of the
Constitution of Dáil Éireann (1919) and the Constitution of the Irish Free State (1922). The
Constitution states that all legislative, executive and judicial powers of Government derive from the
people. It sets out the form of government and defines the powers of the President, the two Houses of
the Oireachtas and the Government. It also defines the structure and powers of the courts, sets out the
fundamental rights of citizens and contains a number of directive principles of social policy for the
general guidance of the Oireachtas. The Constitution may be amended only by referendum. In
operation since 1937, it sets general principles about the Irish state. For instance it sets the principle of
the separation of powers. It also establishes the judiciary system. As well as this it creates a
parliamentary democracy based on the British parliamentary system. Moreover it establishes
fundamental principles and rights concerning its relation with its citizens, and with other sovereign

the death of Francis Macomber by being shot in the head by his wife Margot. At first while reading,

having control over Francis, so his sudden courage scares her. An analysis also states: Though Francis

would lead us to expect that this should benefit his wife, it is in Margot s case a threat, due primarily
to his knowledge of her infidelity (Sugiyama). This could result in Margot s frustration and believing
that the only thing left to do was to kill him. If she killed him, there was no way for him to divorce
her, and she could have his belongings, including money, to herself. As said by Grant, the relationship
between Macomber and Margot is based on their mutual weaknesses and could not have survived his
maturity. Insecurity playing a role in their relationship was significant. There are particular events in
the story that show that Margot was to blame for Francis death. After Francis was shot, Wilson is

Remote Minehunting System ( Rms ) Of Littoral Combat Ship
This paper examines Remote Minehunting System (RMS) of Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) in detail.
LCS is a fast platform designed for executing operations in near shore environments. But, it is capable
of conducting open ocean operation as well. It is designed to defeat asymmetric threats. Mines,
submarines and fast surface craft can be shown as unique examples of asymmetric threats. The LCS,
which is a fast, maneuverable surface ship, provides warfighting capabilities for tasks/missions
including mine warfare, anti submarine warfare (ASW) and anti surface warfare (ASUW). The RMS,
which will be deployed on LCS, is a component of the LCS Mine Countermeasures (MCM) mission
package (MP). The mission package is called the Remote Minehunting System. The system uses the
Remote Multimission Vehicle (RMMV). The RMMV vehicle is produced by Lockheed Martin. It
conducts autonomous and/or semi autonomous missions. It also carries AQS 20A minehunting sonar.
The sonar attached to RMMV is specifically designed for a variable depth forward looking and side
scanning under sea. Raytheon makes the AQS 20As. The RMS detects, classifies, and localizes non
buried bottom and moored mines. It also identifies shallow water bottom mines.
U.S. Navy plans to keep its ships out of the dangerous minefield with the RMS. Navy focuses on
decreasing core crew for mine warfare while conducting mine hunting operations as well. Navy

High School and Act
No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 The No Child Left Behind Act is designed to raise the achievement
levels of subgroups of students such as African Americans, Latinos, low income students, and special
education students to a state determined level of proficiency. However, since its introduction in 2001,
it has received a lot of criticism. Some argue the ulterior motives of the Act while others commend its
innovation and timing. With the Bush administration coming to an end, it is difficult to determine
what will happen to the Act or how effective it will continue to be. Hopefully future lawmakers will be
able to evaluate the pros and cons of the Act and the impact it will have on our youth. Lets first start

The results are broken down into categories such as race, ethnicity, disability and students with limited
English. The standards for teaching are also set higher, so the students can get the best education.
Another reason why the NCLB is good, by measuring the educational status and growth by ethnicity
the achievement gap between white and minority students will be smaller, and ultimately the gap will
close. In this day and age, there should be no reason as to why all children do not and can not receive
the same education, along with the same opportunities and resources as other schools. There are tons
of school throughout the country that are lacking the bare necessities to operate a successful school,
such as: up to date books, enough desks for all students, lack of before and after school programs,
supplies including but not limited to chalk, calculators and paper. With Bush s reinstatement of the
NCLB, as he mentioned earlier this year in his State of the Union address, we can only hope that him
and his Administration can keep their promises made by not leaving any child behind. In order for this
to happen, he needs to give more money, at least eight billion dollars more to the NCLB. With this
extra money lacking, nearly five million children are behind. This money will make it possible for
there to be before and after school programs, tutoring, and making sure

As a public service system, there is much more interactions going on between the organization and the
public. It is more complicated than sell and buy relationship in the market of private companies. A
public organization is more associated with obligation when delivering service and goods. Not saying
that the private organizations has no responsibility to the customers, however, in addition to
everything between sellers and buyer, it is also our liability to provide what the citizens demand for
since they ve offered their trust and tax dollars.

In the government, PERT is especially useful when the tasks are executed by multiple agencies or
independent divisions with specialized expertise while it usually points out the most effective way to
coordinate. Since time is the key issue of PERT, it relies on the subjective estimates of the managers
and the accuracy of timekeeping. The process of PERT has to clarify time commitments, outputs, and
interrelationships among participants for the comprehensive evaluation. Yet, a PERT network is a
graphic representation of simple process but it has limited capability to explain detailed information.
Hence, a flowchart, developed from PERT network is adopted to represent a process with sequencing
of steps and relative information and data. A complete flowchart may serve as a tool for developing
process with higher efficiency, and for improving coordination and communication leading to better

Still, the issues mentioned in this paper need to be taken into account every time a new wireless
application is considered. Only if we make responsible choices in replacing wired technology by its
wireless alternative, we will be able to continue to improve our life quality, in the near as well as
distant future. Wireless solutions offer productivity, convenience, and cost advantages over traditional
wired networks. Wireless solutions allow many benefits, including allo wing businesses to benefi t

The dragon laughed, a demonic and evil sound that made even Herobrine quiver.
And why would I do anything for you?

The Murder Of Rapper Christopher Wallace
No one was ever charged in the murder of rapper Christopher Wallace, aka. Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie
Smalls, but I will show how a suspect would be tried if there were such a suspect. But first I would
like to point out that this trial would be a media circus. To begin with the suspect could more than
likely end up being one or more LAPD officers, a fact that the FBI has suggested in their report on
Wallace that was released in 2011 (Federal Bureauof Investigation , n.d.). Then there is the gang
aspect, Biggie had ties to the Crips, which he had reportedly hired to murder rival rapper Tupac
Shakur, who was himself a Blood, just six months prior to his own murder. Subsequently, since no one
has ever been formally charged in this case,I will try to use vague wording when referring to the
suspect, and I will refer to him by of name Mr. Murder Suspect . I use the masculine only because
there were no female suspects.
After Mr. Murder Suspect was charged in the murder of Cristopher Wallace, arrested, formally
charged at the first appearance, with the charges being upheld during the preliminary hearing, and then
formally arraigned, where he plead not guilty to all charges. Now the trial is set to begin.
(Schmalleger, 2014)

Crisis
Crisis! Anytime we, as a society, hear this word our ears perk up and the speaker has our attention.
Usually when we hear crisis we think that it is something with the distinct possibility of a highly
undesirable outcome (Merriam Webster) that calls for immediate response. President George W. Bush
says that we are in a national energy crisis (Is Yucca Mountain in Nevada a safe disposal site?). Bush
has proposed a solution, storing all of our nation s nuclear waste in Nevada s Yucca Mountain, but has
been met with much resistance from Nevada residents and politicians and environmental groups.
The proposal is that Yucca Mountain will be a permanent disposal facility for two types of nuclear

Lisa Gue, a policy analyst with Public Citizen says, Yucca Mountain is an unsuitable site for an
unsuitable project.
Many of the environmentalists oppose Yucca Mountain because they believe that the waste could
contaminate our water supply. They believe that water could corrode the canisters and then the United
States would be confronting a catastrophe. However, a study, conducted by the DOE, found that even
if water would erode the canisters of waste, the waste would still have to pass through one thousand
feet of rock to contaminate an underground water supply. Obviously, this fifteen year study, completed
in 1998, greatly encouraged progression towards completion of Yucca Mountain. Despite these
findings, skeptics still believe that water could be contaminated and claim that because the study was
conducted by the DOE which is pro Yucca Mountain that it should be disregarded as biased.
The largest problem confronting Yucca Mountain is transporting the radioactive waste from temporary
storage sites. The waste would be transported by truck and train. Inevitably, accidents would occur
during this process. The DOE says that special shipping casks should prevent any major impacts from
any accidents. Critics, who have dubbed the Yucca Mountain plan Mobile Chernobyl, say that the
combination of diesel fuel fires and radioactive waste could seriously pollute our nation s

Analysis Of La Vita E Bella
Winner of three Oscars including Best Music, Original Dramatic Score and Best Foreign Language
Film, La Vita e Bella, remains an intensely challenging contribution to the developing body of films
about the holocaust. Witten and directed by Italy s national treasure, Roberto Benigni, it is a film of
two distinct halves that battles through the tragic past to remember the happy times during such
misery. But does Benigni depict this fabrication in a deceiving light? A moral and fable, the film
stretches the fact that life is sacred, precious and life is indeed beautiful!
Told from his son s perspective, we begin in late 1930 s Tuscany with a clownish Guido (a
permanently grinning Benigni). Dreaming of opening his own book store whilst attempting to woo his
blushing principessa (Nicoletta Braschi) through Chaplinesque slapstick, he finds temporary work as a
waiter. After seeing the two characters, Guido and Dora, fall innocently in love, we find that they, now
married, live contentedly with their son Giosue (Giorgio Cantarini). However, through dramatically
changes in colour, we find that they are deported to a German run concentration camp. There, father
pretends to son that the bellowing Germans, abrasive clothing and pitiless conditions are all part of an
elaborate game in which points are awarded to those who display good behaviour .
A fable rather than a portion of historical practicality, the film is seemingly envisioned as a tribute to
the strengths of imagination,

Causes Of The Obstacles In The Odyssey
Everyone faces struggles at some point in their life, no matter if you are a hero from an old mythical
story or a modern day person living in Iowa. Even though the struggles faced by Odysseus and me are
different, they have a common overlapping theme that ties them together. Which causes them in turn
to be in fact very comparable. Both Odysseus and I face obstacles such as temptation, laziness, and
distraction. Although his obstacles come from his want to go back home to Ithaca, mine are from my
desire to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.
Temptation, sin or not? Depending on who you ask it may or may not be. Temptation can come in any
form. It sidetracks people from whatever their individual goal is and draws them to do something that
isn t the best for them. Odysseus and I both face temptation in different ways. For him it is his struggle

It is one of the most underrated troubles. For it causes many issues in the world, though the blame
always seems to fall upon some other reason of cause. Laziness causes people to not want to fulfill
their wildest dreams to refusing to do necessary duties. On the island of the lotus eaters, Odysseus
faces laziness at its most extreme. The lotus flowers cause people to magically lose their longing for
home. Sailors don t have much control over their laziness, for it was forced upon them by way of
magic lotus flowers from the natives. My troubles with laziness come from giving up because
something is too hard , when really I just am being lazy. It causes me to not work as hard as I should

similar because we both lose the lust for our goal. Luckily we can both overcome laziness with hard

Summary Of Alan Turing The Enigma
Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges London: Burnett Books Ltd, 2000 Andrew Hodges
brings Alan Turing to life in the namesake title, Alan Turing: The Enigma. Alan Turing, a war hero in
his own right, worked during World War II at Bletchley Park in England which was the site housing
British codebreakers for the Government Code and Cypher School (GC CS). One of his main
objectives was to crack the German Enigma machine s code. Turing s work was crucial to the war, and
beyond that, he is known as the father of computer science and a brilliant mathematician. Turing
became alarmed about the war with Germany in the fall of 1937. At the time, Turing spent his time
studying and working on a thesis based on the theory of computation and on the hypothetical devices
later known as Turing machines. A Turing machine in today s sense would be a model for a modern
computer. Besides the important work with his research, he found time to enjoyably take up the
subject of cryptanalysis assuming words would be replaced by numbers eventually to be transmitted
on a binary scale: in zeros and ones, on and off, true and false. Turing himself even spent the time
building hardware to produce ciphering machines as a hobby while at Princeton. These precursors
were a perfect setup for the work he would pursue with the GC CS and Turing a natural recruit.
During the First World War and up to this time in 1938, the GC CS grew from a small operation of
around 25 officers with a small clerical staff

Midsummer Night s Dream And Much Ado About Nothing
Battle of the Sexes in MSND and Much Ado about Nothing In Shakespeare s comedies, A Midsummer

Particularly in war between the female and male characters. Shakespeare plays with the idea of a

she is an Amazon woman who is fierce and strong. Shakespeare created Hippolyta to not conform to

Due to not being able to choose her husband Hermia must run away to marry the man she loves. In
this time, women were thought of as weaker than men and unable to make appropriate decisions for
themselves.. This was thought to be due to the fact that women could not keep the four humours and
elements in balance, partly because of menstruation. (McDonald pg. 254) Aristotle even made the
assumption that the female of all animals in less fierce and takes care of the young more than the

The Material Flow And Variable Chances For Improvement
Abstract: Among the challenges faced by manufacturers in mean time, Improvement in material
efficiency and the impact of material on environment are given most priority. Presently, managements
mainly focus on maximizing outputs in economic terms but not on the damage caused due to
processing and disposal of material. Few methods can determine the product s impact on environment
but no method can assess the material efficiency in production system. This Journal Material Flow
Assessment in Manufacturing System shows the framework for effective material flow and variable
chances for improvement. Introduction: Resource Efficient Manufacturing (REM) focuses on reducing
production costs like labor, material, energy costs and to maximize profits, increasing output sales.
Certain tools for REM such as lean manufacturing and process optimization seems to be inadequate to
meet sustainability goals. Resources which has greater financial impact on business are mainly
focused by managers and given higher priority. Availability of resources is linked with other sources,
the degree of scarcity of certain source is specified to both region and season. Material Efficiency
Strategies: The provision of product with less material production has clear environmental benefits as
the decreased amount of material used in production will ultimately reduce the impact on
environment. MES are grouped as design changes and process changes. Material elimination,
minimization, reducing yield losses and

Bullying is one major quandary consisting of aggression with students and adults of any age through
many different forms of communication resulting in detrimental consequences. Within the article
Parental Mediation, Online Activities, and Cyberbullying, (Mesch, G., S., Ph.D., 2009), it s explaining
that bullying is a monotonous destruction perpetrated upon someone by users of such emailing,
texting, cell phones, and of slander within social networking sites. There have been several occasions
that cyberbullying has led to death of the victim of constant lies and aggression from the bully. Bullies
often just don t prey on unknown assailants, they actually know their victim through channels in their
lives. Traditional bullying can take many forms, whether it is through direct physical contact or
indirect relationally aggressive routes, such as spreading hateful rumor about a peer or excluding
others from group membership or participation (Burton, Florell, Wygant 2013, pg. 103, para 1). As we

The Positive And Negative Aspects Of Social Media In...
Democracy is a form of government in which people choose their representatives and hold their
leaders accountable for their policies and their conduct in office. Social media was invented in the late
1780 s but is now commonly used by people of all ages. Social media plays an important role in the
lives of human today because it is where they get their information and what plays a role in shaping
their minds. Social media has not only played an important role in shaping the minds of citizens but is
also responsible for shaping democracy. In a democracy, social is considered to have positive and
negative aspects. Some of the positive aspects of social media in a democracy include the fact that it
makes citizens aware of political, social and economic activities that happen all over the world. Social
media is also responsible for showing the truth and rough reality of life. According to CEKU,
politicians are reminded of their unfilled promises through the media at the time of elections. It also
points out the fact that the excessive coverage of the TV channels during elections helps people,
especially illiterates, in electing the right person to power. Because of this, politicians are pressured to
abide by their promises to remain in power. ( role of democracy in media CEKU ) Moreover, CEKU
also states that the media exposes the loopholes in a democracy which ultimately helps the

Essay on Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Structuralism
Frankenstein and Structuralism
Professor John Lye of Brock University, California describes literary theory as: a collection of related
theoretical concepts and practices which are marked by a number of premises, although not all of the
theoretical approaches share or agree on all of them.
The first segment of this essay aims to define the main views of structuralism, one of these theoretical
approaches. Structuralism, in particular the work of Ferdinand de Saussure, created controversy as it
directly challenged some of the values of the everyday reader in the way it attempts to disregard the
actual content of writings, and instead concentrates on form and diagrammatics. As the name suggests
structuralism is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Saussure claimed that words only function when operating in a system of differences, not because
they are tied literally to the real world. Words are a self sufficient system; they have a meaning
because of their place in the system not because of the speaker s intentions. In that sense, one could
say that the content of the narrative is its structure. Saussure s ideas on langue and parole support this.
Langue or language is a total system of rules whilst parole or speech is the concrete application of this
system.
Saussure furthermore identified two parts to a basic linguistic unit: the concept and the sound image.
The sound image or signified is the image that imprints on your mind at the sound or thought of the
word. The signifier is the word that produces this image, whether it is spoken, written or a pictorial
equivalent. The sign is the combination and relationship between the signifier and the signified . To
explain, whatever the language in which the word cat is spoken (signifier), to a member of that
nationality the word will instantly conjure up the idea of a cat (signified). However Saussure stressed
that the relationship between the two is strictly arbitrary, they are bound purely by convention

How To Stop Poaching
Killing In Action Poaching is a war, and many animals lose their lives and family to it. Although many
people don t think it s bad, it is. Many animals have gone extinct from it. People in the world need to
stop poaching otherwise we won t have elephants, tigers, rhinos or any other animals anymore. People
really don t care, but if we don t stop poaching we won t have any of these animals. Elephants tusks
are used for piano keys, billiards balls and many other human enjoyments. Many animals get poached
but there are few that get poached so much that there is little to non left. Elephant numbers have
declined in the past five years at more than 75 percent of the sites that they still occur.1 Elephant
numbers have dropped because people have been killing them for their tusks.1 The population of wild
tigers has dropped from 100,000 to 3,500. 2 The population of tigers has dropped because their pelts
are really valuable on the black market.3 Rhino population has dropped drastically because of ... Show

Women In 1001 Arabian Nights
The Presentation of Women in 1001 Arabian Nights 1001 Arabian Nights, also commonly referred to
as The Arabian Nights, is a collection of tales from the Middle East that were told orally over the
course of many centuries before being recorded. The Arabian Nights contained stories about many
subjects, among them being love, magic, and wealth. One of the most interesting prospects of the
collection is the role that women play in them. In the today s world, women are portrayed differently
all over the globe. In the tales, the presentations of these women vary greatly. There is a direct link to
the ladies in The Arabian Nights and what a culture expects a woman to be like. Three common
characteristics of a woman character in 1001 Arabian Nights are their deceitfulness, atrocity, and
inferiority. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon becoming king of a prosperous land, he marries his enchantress cousin, but later finds out that
she does not love him. When he critically injures her favorite slave, she becomes furious with him and
transforms him into marble from the waist down. The Sultan finds him, and, after listening to his
story, the two of them plot revenge on the witch. The next morning, the Sultan disposes of the slave
and disguises himself as him, requesting that the enchantress cease the abuse she inflicts on her
husband. After doing so, she is killed by the Sultan. The moral of this story is that one should be
careful who they place their trust into, as not everyone is who they say they are. Some themes and
elements present in The Young King of the Black Isles are justice, power, and disloyalty. The young
man receives justice and escapes her wrath when the Sultan helps to free him of his wife by stripping
her of her life. The issue of disloyalty in the tale suggests that Arabians view betrayal as a massive
crime, going so far as to threaten death upon those who commit

Cigna V Aetna
Innovation Comparative Analysis: Cigna vs. Aetna
The purpose of this paper is to provide a comparative analysis of two companies within the same
industry (Cigna vs. Aetna) and an evaluation of their innovation processes.
Current Situation Analysis A recent survey of the nation s top CEO s concludes that innovation
remains the lifeblood of business. For CEO s today, it s all about achieving growth and efficiency
through innovation. It s not about product innovation so much anymore as about innovating business
models, process, culture and management. (April, 2006). In comparing Aetna and Cigna, it s
interesting to note that the companies share a number of important similarities. Both are recognized

Industry experts note that major transformations are under way in health insurance, and cite several
major drivers that demand innovation to protect future success: (Singh Sawhney, 2006)
· Rising healthcare costs are pressuring employers, who are moving toward consumer directed and
defined contribution benefit plan designs. This means that consumers will be challenged at new levels
to manage their health costs and benefits, and they ll need unprecedented levels of access to
information to manage their decisions. With consumers holding more of the financial responsibility,
they ll have new motivation to demand consumer friendly services and information. (Singh Sawhney,
2006)
· Competition is forcing consolidation of health insurers. Two years ago, there were fifteen major for
profit insurance plans that controlled the national market. They have consolidated into nine players,
and further changes are predicted. (Singh Sawhney, 2006)
· As a result of changing business models and industry consolidation, fewer companies are competing
for fewer covered lives in a stagnant market. In short, the commercial and group

The Pandinus Imperator a.k.a. Emperor Scorpion
The Pandinus imperator, also known as the Emperor Scorpion or the Imperial Scorpion, is native to
the hot, humid forests and savannas of Nigeria, Togo, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and the Congo Region.
The Emperor Scorpion is the largest, but not the longest of all the scorpions8. They are also not as
vicious as they look, they would rather flee than fight. However, if they are cornered they will turn
aggressive and go to defensive position. Their venom is categorized as mild and is only as harmful as
a bee sting, unless you are allergic. Their large pedipalps (pinchers) are strong enough to draw blood
from a human. In this paper the topic that will be discussed is how human action can improve the
terrestrial environment that is home to the Emperor Scorpion. Humans need to stop keeping them as
pets, slow down deforestation, and plant more tress. The Emperor Scorpion belongs to the phylum
Arthropoda, the name Arthropoda means jointed feet. An arthropod is an organism that has a hard
exoskeleton made out of a hard substance called chitin. Its body is segmented and each part of its body
has its own pair of legs, which are jointed, and it is also an invertebrate10. An invertebrate is an
organism that lacks a vertebral column which is also called a backbone11. Every phylum of
invertebrates has its own special characteristics, for example cnidarians, of the phylum Cnidaria, have
special stinging organs called nematocysts. While invertebrates like echinoderms, of the phylum

Essay on Concord Bookstore Concord Bookstore University of Phoenix Creating Change within Organizations HCS587 David Harrell 16 January, 2012 * The Concord Bookshop is a small town bookstore with a 64 year history and a cultural appeal enjoyed by the citizens of the town. In recent years the economic environment created fierce competition for the bookstore, coupled with a need for innovative technology meant a need for restructuring. The financial status of the bookshop was in grave distress. Fearing financial ruin the board members made a unanimous decision to implement significant changes. However, the board did not take the necessary steps of including the appropriate stakeholders in the change process and obtaining employee support. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Behaviour Change Change can be successful if a company or group within the organization changes the way an individual presents oneself (Spector, 2010). Behavior change is based on how an individual works within the environment. The employees of Concord Bookshop were not consulted therefore did not have an opportunity to verbalize their concerns or provide input to assist the company to move the bookstore in a new direction. The management team was aware of the financial distress and was willing to participate in any financial changes required. The employees of the bookstore had an abundance of knowledge and experience that may have contributed to ending financial turmoil (Schein, 2011). Open dialogue between the employees and owners may have facilitated the development and collaboration of new ideas in a competitive environment. The new strategies could have provided a new direction for the bookstore. According to Burnes, in discussing Kurt Lewin s Change Model, for change to be effective within a group there has to be a collective approach by each member of the group (2004). Conclusion The Concord Bookshop was a well respected historical bookstore facing financial challenges. While the bookstore employed knowledgeable and dedicated employees, the owners and board members did not engage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Amylase Lab Report The results in Figure 1, supported both the hypothesis as well as the predictions because the graph depicts how the differences in temperature changed the enzyme activity of amylase. The results concluded that as temperature deviates from optimal temperature amylase will hydrolyze starch at a lower rate. At 5 and 70 degrees Celsius amylase took longer to hydrolyze starch compared to 25 and 40 degrees Celsius. The results also supported the prediction that at 40 degrees Celsius, enzymes will break down starch at a faster rate than at 5 degrees Celsius, 25 degrees Celsius, or 70 degrees Celsius. The results showed 40 degrees Celsius as the optimum temperature for the hydrolysis of starch because 40 degrees Celsius is close to the body s temperature. Amylase denatures at 70 to 80 degrees Celsius which causes the enzyme to become damaged and can no longer hydrolyze the starch. The results of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Living organisms are dependent on the use of enzymes to speed up biochemical reactions. Enzymes will catalyze one specific chemical reaction since they have a unique three dimensional shape that allows one substrate to bind to the active site. The enzyme Amylase is found in human saliva that speed up the hydrolysis of starch into smaller carbohydrate molecules. When humans are sleep deprived there is an increase in amylase and this study done by Räikkönen shows that short sleep duration in both children and adults correlates to an increase in amylase. Compared to girls, boys were found to have a lower efficiency and shorter duration of sleep compared to girls. This study offers insight on how poor sleep is associated with poor health because children and adults with high levels of the enzyme amylase also have an increase in stress. . Further testing could lead to a better understanding of how sleep wake cycles and their genetic makeup affects the enzyme amylase production. (Räikkönen et al., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Freuds Interpretation of Dreams Many will argue that Freud s ideas have exerted a profound influence on twentieth century thought and culture, though his work has come under scrutiny, it has shape the fundamentals of society view on civilization and discontents, dreams, psychoanalysis and the unconscious. For this paper, I will be discussing Freud s fundamentals of dreams, what dreams represents, how dreams are constructed and its significance while paying close attention to the following areas of dreams, manifest and latent content, condensation and displacement, and censorship and repression. First, let examined the definition of dream according to Sigmund Freud dream is the disguised fulfilment of a repressed wish. Dreams are constructed like a neurotic symptom: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, manifest and latent content are connected because the dreamer have to first remember the dream before he or she can break down and make sense of it. Third, Sigmund Freud thought dreams had motives and there meaning is other than it appears on the surface. Dreams are disguised by condensation and displacement. Condensation is a thought expressed in the optative has been replaced by a representation in the present tense (Freud, 151). In simpler terms, dream condensation is complex meaning compressed into a simpler one. While dream displacement is concealing the meaning of a dream and to make the connections between the dream content and the dream thoughts unrecognisable (Freud, 155). When we rationalise this, it is merely stating that dream content is derived from the dream thoughts and when an individual awakes the content of the dream may not be clear due to condensation and displacement. Often with dream displacement, for the dream content to be clear there has to be a linkage to something that corresponds to it. Freud also stated that, we assume as a matter of course that the most distinct element in the manifest content of dream is the most important one; but in fact owing to displacement that has occurred it is often an indistinct element which turns out to be the most direct derivative of the essential dream thoughts (Freud, 155). This shows that it is not the content of the dream, which is remembered, that is most significant but the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, Fredrick Douglass writes about his journey of being practically dumb, beaten, and often mistreated. Douglass is a person whom I can personally relate to, because we have so many similarities. He is a goal driven determined man, and that s how I consider myself. The fact that Douglass cannot read or write is very astonishing to me, for the simple fact that I have never read about anything about him. Douglass appears to not know his birthday or even his age; wouldn t it only be right to tell the slaves about themselves since they are already getting their freedom taken away? • 6. Citizen Kane Analysis Citizen Kane is a movie that can be rewritten and implemented into any film created today. In many ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each one of us who has ever wished for a blah blah life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah to his political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kane owes a great deal to Orson Welles because of the way he used music, shadows and lighting, and special effects, which without a doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its time because Orson Welles was the first to implement these techniques, which revolutionize cinema forever. It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many reasons is because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope of its subject (The Denny Life) to keep cost down. One of the methods that revolutionize cinematography was the introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep focus is the use of having everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time contrary to having only the people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life). Moreover, the deep focus technique requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition, and type of camera lens to produce the desired effect. For example, Orson Welles use this technique in several occasions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of The Raid By Leo Tolstoy While reading The Raid by Leo Tolstoy, one is instantly struck by the strong contrast between the peaceful nature scenes and the violent battle scenes. One minute the sounds of crickets and frogs are charmingly echoing through the night, and the next you can hear the clang of a heavy gun and the sound of bayonets touching one another (Tolstoy 20). In one scene, the generals and majors stand watching the gory battle below, yet they continue to discuss the beautiful nature around them as if nothing else could possibly be worth their attention (Tolstoy 25). However, upon closer readings, it becomes evident that the war and nature scenes are not as separate as they seem. As the story progresses, the two begin to weave together, until distinguishing them is nearly impossible. Indeed, this subtly merger can be seen throughout multiple scenes as the story evolves. From the start, nature and war are both extremely prominent in the story. But, they are presented separately from each other. The best example of this is on page thirteen. The sun had done half its journey, and cast its hot rays through the glowing air onto the dry earth...the motionless air seemed full of transparent dust, the heat was becoming unbearable (Tolstoy 13). The Chinese People s Liberation Army Essay The Chinese People s Liberation Army: Ground Forces (PLAGF) began a massive military modernization in the 1980 s and they have been continually reforming their training and education of their ground forces ever since. Senior officials within the People s Liberation Army recognized that improving the military skills and raising the education levels of both officers and troops alike were necessary prerequisites if they wanted to be able to utilize more advanced weaponry and fight in this day and age. During the modernization of the People s Liberation Army funding was increased for military education, the study of foreign militaries was incorporated into their training curriculum and contacts with foreign military academies was increased. The leadership of the PLA focused their education reforms on the military academy system. They also changed the scope of their training from being highly politicized and emphasized in single unit infantry troop training, to concentrating on training officers capable of directing combined arms warfare. The Revival of the military academies system began in 1978, which the Cultural Revolution had devastated. (Mao Zedong china s communist leader launched his plan to reassert his authority over the Chinese government which is known as the cultural revolution.) • 9. The Moral Ambivalence Of Crime And Criminology Crime and Criminology Essay It is common knowledge that crime exists all over the world and that justice and punishment may vary in different countries and societies. However, how justice and punishment is enforced in a society and globally is not common knowledge. Global justice refers to the belief that the world is unjust; while social justice, in a manner of speaking, refers to the fair treatment of everyone in a society.( Social Justice ). Both social and global justice value human rights, remove inequality, and holds people accountable for fair practices.( Social Justice ). If someone commits the same crime as another person, for example, they should receive the same punishment. That is what most people would be inclined to believe, but in the reading The Moral Ambivalence of Crime in an Unjust Society by Jeffrey Reiman, crime and justice is reviewed and defined in an uncommon way. Reiman discusses justice in a society where a crime was committed against him and his wife. A visit to France should be like a dream come true, an experience of a lifetime, but for Jeffrey Reiman and his wife it was not. In the summer of 2005, they visited a town called Nice. After traveling all night, the couple picked up a car that they were leasing for the summer. Before they could lock the doors to the car or even enjoy any of the accommodations, they were victimized. Wolves usually mate for life and both parents take care of the young. The coyotes mate between February and April and the gestation period lasts 60 to 63 days. The pups are born blind. Their eyes open after about 14 days. The pups live and play until they are six to ten weeks old and within a year, they go their own way, staking out their own territory. The scarcity of organ donations in America is the main reason there is a sudden diversion of possible source of organs. Beginning with donations of organs from cadaver to living donors, different strategies sprung just to reduce the said shortage; as a result of this quest, sale and paid organs is one of the approaches that gathered too much attention from the public. However, the real picture of compensated organ donations is actually the opposite of unethical and self interest ; it promotes life and therefore regarded as a good and moral deed. Organ Donation s Supply and Demand Knowing the rate of supply and demand of organ donation helps in establishing a clear background about the issue. For instance, Monti (2009) explained the reality of supply and demand of kidneys. The supply of this organ coming from deceased and altruistic donors are not enough to support the demand of those individuals who are in need. Approximately there are 73,000 people who wait for kidney donations and 18 of those who are in the wait list will die by tomorrow. Accordingly, the list is being added by 6,000 individuals every year. An individual has to wait for five years before he/she can get an organ donation. The facts and figures presented by Monti shows that there is a big gap between the supply and demand of organ donations . The Center for Bioethics (2004) gave supplementary details on the issue of organ shortage. In their article ethics of organ transplantation they said that United Network for Organ Sharing or UNOS keeps a comprehensive figure on the present status of people who need organ transplants and presently there more than ... Bush has proposed a solution, storing all of our nation s nuclear waste in Nevada s Yucca Mountain, but has been met with much resistance from Nevada residents and politicians and environmental groups. Lisa Gue, a policy analyst with Public Citizen says, Yucca Mountain is an unsuitable site for an unsuitable project. Many of the environmentalists oppose Yucca Mountain because they believe that the waste could contaminate our water supply. They believe that water could corrode the canisters and then the United States would be confronting a catastrophe. However, a study, conducted by the DOE, found that even if water would erode the canisters of waste, the waste would still have to pass through one thousand feet of rock to contaminate an underground water supply. Obviously, this fifteen year study, completed in 1998, greatly encouraged progression towards completion of Yucca Mountain. Despite these findings, skeptics still believe that water could be contaminated and claim that because the study was conducted by the DOE which is pro Yucca Mountain that it should be disregarded as biased. The largest problem confronting Yucca Mountain is transporting the radioactive waste from temporary storage sites. The waste would be transported by truck and train. Inevitably, accidents would occur during this process. The DOE says that special shipping casks should prevent any major impacts from any accidents. Critics, who have dubbed the Yucca Mountain plan Mobile Chernobyl, say that the combination of diesel fuel fires and radioactive waste could seriously pollute our nation s ... • 32. Analysis Of La Vita E Bella Winner of three Oscars including Best Music, Original Dramatic Score and Best Foreign Language Film, La Vita e Bella, remains an intensely challenging contribution to the developing body of films about the holocaust. Witten and directed by Italy s national treasure, Roberto Benigni, it is a film of two distinct halves that battles through the tragic past to remember the happy times during such misery. But does Benigni depict this fabrication in a deceiving light? A moral and fable, the film stretches the fact that life is sacred, precious and life is indeed beautiful! Told from his son s perspective, we begin in late 1930 s Tuscany with a clownish Guido (a permanently grinning Benigni). Dreaming of opening his own book store whilst attempting to woo his blushing principessa (Nicoletta Braschi) through Chaplinesque slapstick, he finds temporary work as a waiter. After seeing the two characters, Guido and Dora, fall innocently in love, we find that they, now married, live contentedly with their son Giosue (Giorgio Cantarini). However, through dramatically changes in colour, we find that they are deported to a German run concentration camp. There, father pretends to son that the bellowing Germans, abrasive clothing and pitiless conditions are all part of an elaborate game in which points are awarded to those who display good behaviour . A fable rather than a portion of historical practicality, the film is seemingly envisioned as a tribute to the strengths of imagination, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the struggles faced by Odysseus and me are different, they have a common overlapping theme that ties them together. Which causes them in turn to be in fact very comparable. Both Odysseus and I face obstacles such as temptation, laziness, and distraction. Although his obstacles come from his want to go back home to Ithaca, mine are from my desire to live a happy and healthy lifestyle. Temptation, sin or not? It sidetracks people from whatever their individual goal is and draws them to do something that isn t the best for them. Odysseus and I both face temptation in different ways. Summary Of Alan Turing The Enigma Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges London: Burnett Books Ltd, 2000 Andrew Hodges brings Alan Turing to life in the namesake title, Alan Turing: The Enigma. Alan Turing, a war hero in his own right, worked during World War II at Bletchley Park in England which was the site housing British codebreakers for the Government Code and Cypher School (GC CS). One of his main objectives was to crack the German Enigma machine s code. Turing s work was crucial to the war, and beyond that, he is known as the father of computer science and a brilliant mathematician. Turing became alarmed about the war with Germany in the fall of 1937. At the time, Turing spent his time studying and working on a thesis based on the theory of computation and on the hypothetical devices later known as Turing machines. A Turing machine in today s sense would be a model for a modern computer. Besides the important work with his research, he found time to enjoyably take up the subject of cryptanalysis assuming words would be replaced by numbers eventually to be transmitted on a binary scale: in zeros and ones, on and off, true and false. Turing himself even spent the time building hardware to produce ciphering machines as a hobby while at Princeton. These precursors were a perfect setup for the work he would pursue with the GC CS and Turing a natural recruit. During the First World War and up to this time in 1938, the GC CS grew from a small operation of around 25 officers with a small clerical staff ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Material Flow And Variable Chances For Improvement Abstract: Among the challenges faced by manufacturers in mean time, Improvement in material efficiency and the impact of material on environment are given most priority. Presently, managements mainly focus on maximizing outputs in economic terms but not on the damage caused due to processing and disposal of material. Few methods can determine the product s impact on environment but no method can assess the material efficiency in production system. This Journal Material Flow Assessment in Manufacturing System shows the framework for effective material flow and variable chances for improvement. Introduction: Resource Efficient Manufacturing (REM) focuses on reducing production costs like labor, material, energy costs and to maximize profits, increasing output sales. Certain tools for REM such as lean manufacturing and process optimization seems to be inadequate to meet sustainability goals. Resources which has greater financial impact on business are mainly focused by managers and given higher priority. Availability of resources is linked with other sources, the degree of scarcity of certain source is specified to both region and season. Material Efficiency Strategies: The provision of product with less material production has clear environmental benefits as the decreased amount of material used in production will ultimately reduce the impact on environment. MES are grouped as design changes and process changes. Material elimination, minimization, reducing yield losses and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Words are a self sufficient system; they have a meaning because of their place in the system not because of the speaker s intentions. In that sense, one could say that the content of the narrative is its structure. Saussure s ideas on langue and parole support this. Langue or language is a total system of rules whilst parole or speech is the concrete application of this system. Saussure furthermore identified two parts to a basic linguistic unit: the concept and the sound image. The sound image or signified is the image that imprints on your mind at the sound or thought of the word. The signifier is the word that produces this image, whether it is spoken, written or a pictorial equivalent. The sign is the combination and relationship between the signifier and the signified .
