Essay about Chief Justice Taney and Slavery
The Art of Avoidance; Chief Justice Taney and the Question of Slavery
Their present decision is equivalent to a repeal of law and the making of law. This is not
adjudication, it is mere usurpation. It is the substitution of mere arbitrary will in the place of the
solemn and responsible functions of an impartial judicature. [1]
The 1857 Dred Scott decision proved that Chief Justice Roger Taney s sadistic racism could be
eclipsed only by his unbounded arrogance. Using outright lies regarding the intentions of the
Framers, he temporarily sacrificed the entire African race, and directed the Supreme Court to move
in and illegitimate and supercede the powers vested to Congress by the Constitution. Dred ... Show

Scott s assertion was that he had become a free black as a result of his residency in Illinois, and
as such he could legally sue for his freedom in the state of Missouri after his owner, John
Sandford, laid his hands upon said plaintiff, Harriet, Eliza and Lizzie, and imprisoned them, doing
in this respect, however, no more than what he might lawfully do if they were of right his slaves at
such times .[3] Scott sought redress in the federal courts as a citizen of the United States, not as an
abused slave, an important distinction.
According to the Constitution, only a citizen, as defined by the aforementioned document, could
seek an audience with the federal court, but a slave was not considered a citizen, but property. Yet
in an almost complete contradiction to himself on over question of the term citizen, Taney stated,
Undoubtedly, a person may be a citizen, that is, a member of the community who form the
sovereignty, although he exercises no share of the political power, and is incapacitated from
holding particular office. ,[4] citing the limited status of minors and women. If having no political
voice, no ability to hold power, or property, and living a marginalized existence were consistent
with the definition of citizen, as was held and put forth by the framers of the

Essay on Life, Death, What Dreams May Come
Unconditional love can be described as a pure affection bereft of circumstance. It is a true positive
regard of others that bares no judgment. In a sense, unconditional love has no boundaries. In the
film What Dreams May Come, the boundary between life and death fades and a family s bond is
tested. Tragedy by tragedy, unconditional loveand guiltplay major roles in the defiance of the laws
of death. Chris Nielsen, the main character of the film, travels to the depths of the afterlife to find
his beloved wife Annie and restore his family. In an epic journey that questions the very fabric of
reality and faith, the Nielson family overcomes all odds and is reunited in the end. Throughout the
film, unconditional love is represented in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Nielson s genuine compassion for their young makes it exceptionally difficult to lose Marie
and Ian later on. When both children are killed in a car accident on the way to school, the chain
of misfortune begins to claim the family. Annie, who had the nanny bring the kids to school that
morning due to a work commitment, blamed herself for the loss of her children. When the lives
of children are taken too soon, it is as if they are cheated of having a chance at life, and the parents
are punished for no reason. Upon realizing this, Annie is institutionalized for depression and
suicidal tendencies. The film clearly shows Annie s devastation by her appearance. Her long, brown
hair is now chopped short and she smokes cigarettes. This physical deterioration coincides with the
emotional trauma that occurs when a child dies. The loss of her children infected her heart with an
unwarranted guilt that made her question her faith in herself, her religion, and her marriage. When
Chris mentions getting a divorce because she is so lifeless, she realizes that losing the only love
left in her life would kill her. Their unconditional love is strengthened by the loss and Annie learns
to forgive herself over time. Forgiveness is often the first step, whether in saving a marriage or a
long term emotional healing process. The next life that is lost occurs on the

Rick Jones Case
Michigan state Senator Rick Jones, a republican from Grand ledge, the sponsor of 943 bills, and
a former employee of law enforcement is reaching to accommodate Michigan s speed limit. That
could mean a 75 80 mph speed limit on certain parts of the freeway, or even the adjustment of 55
mph on curves, and crowded areas with constrained visibility. His reasoning behind this proposal
is his belief that some communities are setting low speed limits on roads to increase ticket
dividend. His plan for this action is to leave the calculations for a better flowing freewaysystem to
the Michigan State Police. Their method would include using trafficdata to find the speed that 85
percent of michigan s drivers already use. Examples of the expanse that these changes could be

current employee for the Michigan Senate spoke to the same political science class at LCC, that
Rick Jones did. When asked what his thoughts were about Rick Jones, he laughed and replied
Well Wherever there is a camera, there his is. He explained that it is an ongoing joke at the

many Michigan highways can handle the higher speeds. His proposal was featured on WILX

TSA
TSA Paper
TSA, or Transportation Security Administration, needs to be improved. It is time consuming,
invasive and often ineffective because of pat downs and body scans. TSA is a major part of
American airport security. In a world where such precautions are necessary, the system should be
vastly upgraded to actually provide the security it claims to give.
Some children dream of acquiring X Ray vision as a superpower, but did it ever occur to them
that it strips a person of their rights and degrades them? Body scanners used in airports put
people in a vulnerable state as a naked image of them is captured. Another way TSA attacks an
individual s rights is when they are patted down in front of their family or friends and countless
strangers. This is the perfect opportunity for the worker to get handsy and grope an innocent
person waiting to get on a plane. On top of how invasive TSA is, it is also ineffective and
therefore abusing people s rights for an unbacked reason. According to a leaked internal report,

In A Heartbeat Symbolism
As a viewer of the short film, In a Heartbeat , I experienced through a generation of a never ending
swirl of feelings that at times left my heart completely shattered, while at others, sent my heart
soaring in contentment for characters I have bonded with over the duration of merely 4 minutes. I
was able to understand and appreciate the thoughtfulness of these accumulated feelings that
encloses the matter of universal love. Without the use of words means that anyone from any country
would be able to understand this, demonstrating universality. It was remarkably impressive how
producers were able to convey a bittersweet and touching tale that potentially could surpass the
acceptance standard of civilians; and to creating such a controversial... Show more content on

Throughout the film, a very powerful message was communicated towards the audience which was
reflected off of symbolic traits. One form of symbolism that stood out was the personification of the
heart. The heart represents the intense emotions the main character feels; the desire to near the
supporting character. The message conveyed is that your emotions can neither be controlled nor
restrained, as they are stronger and will lead you to the yearned for person. It indicates that
everything happen for a reason, and that resisting against something which is bound to happen
will only convolute situations, as this is evidently shown in the film. Further exploration can be
done when the heart was physically broken. It represents loss, grief, misery and is showcased
when each character holds half of the heart with dejected expressions. Additionally, another
symbolic representation is the apple. In my opinion, the supporting character couldn t have been
able to spin the apple that way, and I believe producers have made it this way done this for a
reason. It shows that regular actions or physical appearances are sugarcoated when we see those we
idolize. The character may realistically not be exceptional to that particular standard, however,

Importance Of Speeding
While many deadly vehicle wrecks involve two or more vehicles crashing into each other, a
recent single car crash demonstrates why it is important to be a cautious driver even when there
are not other vehicles around you. The crash, resulting in the death of a 14 year old boy and
injuries to three other people, happened when the driver came to the top of a hill at a high speed.
The man lost control of his vehicle and ended up going off the side of the road and crashing.
There are several things you should do to ensure a safer drivingexperience whenever you are on the
road.
Maintain a speed that allows you to always be in control of your vehicle. While speed limits are a
good indicator of how fast you can safely drive on a road, weather conditions

Defining Couples Hiv Testing And Counselling
1.Overview Couples HIV Testing and Counselling
HIV Testing and Counselling
HIV antibody tests were first issued by the World Health Organization in 1992 (WHO, 1997), since
then with frequent update of recommendation, and advancement in innovation (Rotheram Borus et
al., 2000) HIV testing and counselling continue to be the gateway to HIV prevention, essential
treatment and care (Fonner et al., 2012, WHO, 2012b). Knowing one s HIV status used to be
considered as a death sentence. However, after having the right treatment peoples view changed
into considering the status as a chronic condition (Bedingfield et al., 2014). Thus the development
of life saving drugs for HIV/AIDS patients markedly shifted policies to encourage uptake of HIV
testing(WHO, 2012b). In spite of that, WHO/UNAIDS in 2014 reported that, globally not more
than half (49% 58%) of people living with HIV know their serostatus (WHO, 2015b, UNAIDS,
2014b). To address this gap, in 2014 a new global 90 90 90 target introduced in called to reach at
least 90% of all people living with the virus to know their HIV status; 90% of all those diagnosed
with HIV infection to receive sustain antiretroviral therapy; and 90% of all those initiated the
treatment to have viral suppression by the year 2020 (UNAIDS, 2014a).
To achieve the diagnosis goal, both client and provider initiated service deliveries are implemented
in various countries to increase access to HIV testing and counselling. Despite these efforts, the

Analysis Of The Poem The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight
Many characters in The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven show beneficial traits,
physically and mentally from telling their stories. The author of this book, Sherman Alexie,
portrays that the art of telling stories opened new avenues for native Indians to preserve or,
more or less perceive their historical and cultural traditions. One of the main characters, Thomas
Builds The Fire tells stories that had historical settings and viewpoints. They offered knowledge
on tribal insights and how Indians have experienced change over the years. Victor, the other
main character in the story also tells many stories about his past, but unlike Thomas Builds the
fire, his stories are more bleak and realistic. Storytelling helped show how the White people
treated Native Indians, and how they fared against each other. In one of the short stories The
Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire , the main character Thomas tells a very interesting story about
all of the native Indians past. Thomas closed his eyes and began to tell his story, It all started

Assessing India s Mobile Number Portability
India has more than 900 million mobile connections.
To assess the MNP it is of paramount importance to understand the psyche of the Indian consumer.
More than 95% mobile subscribers are prepaid, reflecting a price sensitive consumer. This in
conjunction with aggressive price competition has led to a high churn rate. Under these
circumstances MNP should be high in demand. But contrary to this in the first 12 months after
MNP implementation in 2011, only 5% of the churning customers preferred to take benefit of MNP,
clearly indicating lower affinity for the same number.
This trend could be attributed to several factors. Subscribers in India lack the patience to wait a
week for while the porting procedure is completed. On the other hand the prominence of free
SIM cards, instantly available at every nook and corner, has very much reduced consumer s
apprehension of letting go of the number. Growth in Multi Sim card devices has also helped
consumers to hold on to the previous numbers while going in for a new cheaper alternative. What
did not help is the discretion used by the operators in many cases to reject porting applications. In
such a high churn market, the 90 day waiting period between two porting applications restricts the
free movement of subscribers, who are always on the lookout for the cheapest telecom plan. MNP
hasn t been without its share of controversies. TRAI has had to file litigations against three telecom
companies on the ground of not disclosing to the

Eucalyptus Trees In The Age Of Miracles
In the novel The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker, there is a main theme of coping with
uncertainty and disaster. All of the characters do this in their own unique ways some through rituals
and other through hope. The eucalyptus tree is abundant in the main character Julia s home town.
The eucalyptus tree is a very familiar symbol for Julia and everyone who lives near her. Instances
involving the eucalyptus are spread throughout the noveland help to solidify the theme of coping
with the disaster and change through familiarity and rituals. The novel The Age of Miracles is
set in California and starts as the earth is experiencing a new slower rotation called The Slowing
(Walker 1 304). This change is the earth s rotation is causing changes in the length of days and
changes in gravity (Walker 1 304). Therefore it will also end up causing problems growing food

The eucalyptus was introduced to California around the 1950 s and was seen as a potential new
lumber and would help save the lumber industry (Walker 1 304). However, it was later
discovered that the tree was not a miracle or a cure for the lumber problems and was not a viable
source of lumber, which was a huge disappointment (Farmer 18 22). Although they eventually
discovered it was not a useful lumber wood it had been planted all over the state and became a
familiar symbol for the people of California (Farmer 18 22). The use of the eucalyptus tree in the
novel parallels the hope and eventual loss of hope that the tree symbolized for the California
lumber industry. Long before the trees eventually start getting sick and dying off, Julia mentions
them around all the major points of the novel. I believe it helps her feel like the changes are not
as serious or permanent as they are and that as long as she can see the trees there is hope of things

After carefully calculating and managing my limited budget, I have bought enough food to last

due to their limited budget. Other than store brand products, I have also bought numerous brand
name products, including the quick grits, Italian style meatballs, ramen noodles, apple juice and

food products like frozen pizza and ramen noodles are instant foods and require microwaving,

However, despite the difficult situation, I still managed to choose the healthier foods and tried to

Physical Environment In Africa
It is easy to forget about the trials and tribulations of the physical world because we are constantly
being distracted by the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Between rising skyscrapers, expanding
cities, and growing populations many forget about the ground they walk on and how their actions
impact the long term use of the land we capitalize on every day. In Africa, the physical environment
has a huge impact on what plants and vegetation grow throughout the continent, affecting how its
inhabitants live their daily lives. It is through Africa s physical environment and climatevariability
that determines the continent s diverse vegetation species and drives local economies.
Africa s Physical Environment
Africa s physical environment is a vast piece of land due to several factors. A large reason as to
why the continent is so large is because of the number of cratons that exist throughout the continent,
which contain areas that are composed of ancient crystalline basement rock (Child, Lesson 2.1,
2017). Due to its long dated history, Africa has a very complex geological makeup. Another
contributor to this vast continent s physical environment is the impact of tectonic plates. Because
the tectonic plate Africa sits on is relatively stationary and there has been no collision of
neighboring plates, mountain chains have not formed. However, a geographical element that is
well known due to the impact of continental plates is the formation of the Great Rift Valley
(McKenna).

THEME of Miss Brill In the story Miss Brill, an old, lonely lady spends her Sunday observing
people in a park. Although ignored by everyone around her, Miss Brill manages to convince
herself that she is really an integral part of the scene and would be missed if she weren t there.
Her illusion is shattered by a chance remark at the end of the story, and she returns home, clearly
devastated by her new understanding of her place in life. What this story is trying to illustrate is
that sometimes people can be happy through living in an illusion. However, this kind of happiness

moves Miss Brill to tears. Being a part of something as full of life as the park scene gives her a
sense of belonging. However, by this point in the story, the reader is aware that Miss Brill has

she weren t there, no one would miss her at all. Happiness built on an illusion can only last so

Private Security And Public Security
There is no doubt that in today s society the need for private security is important. For many years,
it has played a major part of everyday life. Through the years, many businesses have used private
security to protect property and prevent crime. Private security agencies are also held responsible
for protecting many of America s institutions, critical infrastructure, utilities, transportation and
health facilities (Strom et al., 2010). Additionally, not only does private securityplay an important
role in domestic territory, but internationally. The fact of the matter is that private security in
modern times plays a major role in society. The attacks which took place on September 11, 2001
changed the industry in the years that followed. Secondly, their role within the criminal justice
system is important as they must be able to collaborate with other agencies such as law
enforcement. Lastly, the main service provided by private sectors, guard services, is one of the
most important jobs within the industry. The fact, however, is that private security has played a
major part in all aspect since terrorist attack, a major part with other agencies, and in the services
they provide.

How Is King Arthur Radley Revenge
Arthur Radley Would Revenge After reading the first three chapters of To Kill a Mocking Bird,
I formulated a rudimentary hypothesis about Mr. Arthur Radley: Being alive, he was imprisoned
at home by his brother, Nathan Radley. The misfortunes throughout Arthur s life had wrought
his antisocial personality. When he finally got an opportunity, he revenged on the three children
for their ceaseless harassment, and injured Jem s arm. Arthur Radley was still incarcerated in
the Radley Place. After Mr. Radley s death, Boo s elder brother returned from Pensacola and
took Mr. Radley s place . This fact implies the existence of Arthur Radley, who was considered
dangerous and required custody. Another significant evidence lies on the first page: He (Jem)
said it (Jem s injury) began the summer Dill came to us, when Dill first gave us the idea of
making Boo Radley come out . It suggests that Radley would cause Jem s injury, either directly or
indirectly.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Arthur and his friends were on charge of their delinquency, Mr. Radley refused to send Arthur
to the state industrial school with his friends. Instead, the mulish father determined to confine him
at home. Because of Arthur Radley s misdemeanor and solitary, many people in the town, including
Jem, regarded him as an atrocious creature. Extreme solitude and ubiquitous animosity would
arouse his hatred against other people. In addition, Miss Stephanie Crawford told us that Arthur
Radley had stabbed his father s leg abruptly with a scissor. Although her account might be partly
spurious, it is enough to assert that Arthur Radley already had a propensity for

Summary Of The Love Of God And Affliction By Simone Weil
The political activist and mystic Simone Weil saw mysticism as deeply engaged in the real world
and not in the private domain. Despite having great insight into Christian mysticism Simone Weil
was never baptized. After her death, her various letters and essays were comprised and formed the
book which is entitled Waiting for God. In the essay The Love of God and Affliction, Weil believes
people can find God in the affliction which she defines as a physical suffering and an uprooting
of life that results in social degradation of the fear of it in some form or another . (67 68)
Generally speaking, affliction is a type of severe suffering that a person can experience that is so
extreme that people tend to socially exclude them due to their... Show more content on

One may scoff at the idea, but in the end, the experiences of being in the real world will reveal
God. According to Weil, Affliction makes God appear to be absent for a time, more absent than
a dead man, more absent than light in the utter darkness of a cell. ... Then, one day, God will
come to show himself to the soul and to reveal the beauty of the world to it... (70) It is difficult
for the person experiencing affliction and the person submitting themselves to be around
affliction to see God in their life. Affliction is not just any kind of suffering; it is one of the
greatest and most horrid sufferings that a person could possibly experience. Thus, it is easy to
lose sight of God being around affliction since there seems to be no light in the world. However,
with time, surrounding yourself with people going through affliction, God will reveal yourself to
you and you will understand and see the true beauty of the world. This is an interesting notion
since it saying through the most horrid suffering, you will realize the true beauty of life. This is
how Simone Weil found mystical experiences as being deeply engaged in the world and how she
truly connected with

Starbucks Coffee And The Coffee Company
Enthusiast coffee drinker or not, people of all generations have heard of the popular franchise
Starbucks Coffee Company. Opened in 1971, Starbucks started off as a single store located in
Seattle. Today the well known coffee chain has spread their name almost all over the globe. With
over 21,000 locations in 64 countries, Starbucksis by far the largest leading coffeecompany in the
world. Starbucks Coffee has different values compared to other coffee corporations that do not see
the importance in giving back to communities around them and treating their employees as equals,
all while striving to provide their customers with high quality products that are ethically sourced.
Corporations that donate some of their profit to charitable organizations inform people that the
company is willing to make a difference. Starbucks Coffee Company did just that, creating a
separate charitable organization called The Starbucks Foundation. This foundation was created to
show commitments Starbucks has for supporting global communities around the world by giving
back to them. Donations and funding received by this foundation are provided back to many
nonprofit organizations. In 2014, The Starbucks Foundation donated over $13.1 million to these
organizations; also in 2014, Starbucks Coffee Corporation donated over $11.4 million in cash,

The Pros And Cons Of Direct Democracy In The United States
Direct democracy is a government in which the people decide. Direct democracy overall is a
positive thing, but as with everything, there can be some dangers. Direct democracy is a form
of democracy in which the people are able to vote and form consensus on policies directly. The
people have the power of recall, which gives the public the power to remove elected officials from
office before the end of their term if they do not feel they are doing a great job. California voters
are also able to help make laws by creating ballot propositions. Propositions are ideas voters have
for new laws or changes to the constitution. Direct democracyin California started in the early 1900
s, when many citizens in California were unhappy with the state government. The citizens then
created a system of initiatives and referendums. Initiative is a proposal for a new law and a
referendum allows the citizens to vote for or against a law that the state assembly has passed....

Teaching Style Of The Instructor
Each teacher is different no matter what the course subject is. When I find myself in a new
class with a new professor I seem to notice the little details that make up the teaching style of the
instructor. In total I have four classes all of which are part of Chattahoochee technical College.
Two of those classes take place at the Paulding Campus and the other two take place at the North
Metro campus. I take my American Government class at the North Metro Campus every
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Every Monday and Wednesday I go to the Paulding Campus to take
College Algebra. These two professors differ in more ways than just the subject of their course.
My American government teacher is pretty cool. He has a very fun way of teaching. By
cracking jokes and making cheesy remarks on every chapter, he always succeeds at making his
class an interesting one. Every lecture does not even seem like one. I always look forward to
sitting in the front of his class ready to learn everything. However, my college algebra professor
is, with all due respect, a more old schooled instructor. He does crack a few jokes from time to
time but he s mostly serious. He is very focused because in math one flaw, no matter how small,
can cause the answer to be wrong. His way of teaching is quite interesting as well; not only does
he teach the class the easiest way to solve a problem, he also teaches the class the harder way.
Every student is different so the line between the easy way and the hard way

Susan Wolf s Article Moral Saints And John Stuart...
Both Susan Wolf s article Moral Saints and John Stuart Mill s book Utilitarianism will be
discussed here. These works offer expositions of and opinions on the philosophical issue of the
moral worth of adhering to a certain set of values, and how a person s motivations for doing so
can change their worth and the desirability of their way of life. Wolf offers the position that
leading an extremely morally good life is undesirable, while Mill s opposing position is that if
moralityleads to happiness, then that behavior is preferable. To determine which of these stances
on the value of morality has the most pertinence, these two arguments will be outlined and
consequently analyzed. Their differences and similarities will be enumerated and described, and
consequently their merit will be discussed. Finally, Wolf s moral theory will be proven to be
inferior to Mills s, due to its prejudice, lack of supportive evidence, and its inability to be
universally applicable.
In Moral Saints , Susan Wolf defines a moral saintas an individual who is as morally good as it is
possible to be. Wolf suggests that there are two types of moral saints, utilitarian and Kantian (Wolf
420). A utilitarian saint is a Loving Saint , one who simply finds their own happiness in the
happiness of others and performs moral actions for their own sake (Wolf 420). A Kantian saint is a
Rational Saint , who is inherently different from a utilitarian/loving saint in the sense that they do

Organizational Structure Of A Corporation
Appex Corporation
When Ghosh joined Appex, he walked into a company full of chaos with no definable structure.
The rapidly growing company was ill equipped to manage its growth at the rate it was expanding.
There were no formal policies or structures in place to manage this exponential growth. As the
number of products increased the lack of structure became more pronounced. The work became
mostly crisis management, leading to a decline in customer focus and production. Additionally,
finances were not managed with any planning or structure causing Appex to lose money rapidly.
Ghosh, eager to test his skills, attempted several organizational structures to stabilize Appex.
Circular Structure
Circular structure is a nonhierarchical organization structure with the senior executives in the
center. The circle centers on the executives, followed by the managers, then employees, and then
the customers. Ghosh used this system as an attempt to create a continuous flow of information
through the organization. One problem identified was that current employees could not relate and
new hires did not understand. New hires looked for a hierarchical structure to understand the flow
of power for decisions and their performance evaluation but were unable to identify such within this
organizational structure. Additionally, this structure did not formalize any type of business planning.

government didn t care about the thoughts of the common person. Today the people cast votes for

was really interesting figuring out some of these interpersonal perception aspects that apply to my

The History Of Police And African Americans Essay
African Americans in modern America have bound together in unity against inequality to help
end the unnecessary murders and unjust police beatings. However, where did these tensions
between police and African Americans begin? This question can be answered by looking at the
history of police in America and why they were originally established. Police first came on to the
scene in 1704 when Carolina established the nation s first slave patrol that would turn into what
we know today as the modern police. The slave patrol had the duty of searching for runaway
slaves and returning them to their masters. Therefore, the original reason the police force was
established was to deal with black slaves and it seems as if some officers today still hold that as
their job title. However, this was just the beginning to the negative police encounters that many
African Americans would have to endure. With the ratification of the 13th amendment and the
freeing of the slaves the slave patrol became what is known as modern day police. During
reconstruction the police began a war to create a new form of slavery, this form of slavery was
known as convict leasing. Although, the 13th amendment legalized the enslavement of anyone
convicted of a crime it seemed as if it was only used against African Americans. This new method
of enslavement sky rocketed the rate of African Americanarrests and created new laws in the south
such as the pig laws which sentenced anyone who stole a pig to 5 years in

Comparing T. R. Tolkien s Negative And Positive Liberty
Tolkien s Negative and Positive Liberty
In today s world, people, especially politicians, talk about liberty but they do not mean precisely
the same. Liberty and freedom should be treated as the same thing. The reason attributed to this

respectively, and they both have the same meaning, which is being unconstrained. The problem
with unconstrained is that the natural world, including rocks, gravity, and weather, limit man s
desires and power. However, man does not feel that nature oppresses, hurts, or bind him since it is
what it is and he can use it as he wishes to. Also, man does not feel that the natural world
oppresses him since his body is part of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since a person to be regarded as free must be in a position to act unobstructed by others, it
follows then that when others prevents him or her from doing what he or she could otherwise
do, then it can be asserted that the person is to that degree unfree. A negative liberty is
characterized by the absence of coercion and enslavement. Berlin highlights that the wider the
range of non interference, the greater the freedom. He also holds that there is a great need to
have a divide between the public and the private sectors since for purposes of pursuing the human
good, it is necessary to have a minimum range of personal freedom. In other terms, there are some
limits put to freedom so that interests of other values can be protected. Precisely, freedom is
subjected to some limits so that the powerful can be prevented from depriving the weak off their

Range Finders Research Paper
How to Choose the Best Rangefinder for Hunting
Range Finders are a great modern devices for measuring the distance between an observer and his
target. The machine offers several capabilities including navigation, precisionary aiming, golfing
and surveying as well as photography. The most commonly used devices today include hunting
rangefinder, Bushnell rangefinder, golf laser and golf rangefinders. Laser rangefinders which
can be used for both golfing and hunting typically cost more money. Always check to see if you
have all the appropriate features and menu options. The device is also slowing replacing the
traditional riflescopes and binocular due to it s due to its versatility and high adaptability. Some
range finders are fitted with built in cameras to provide more accurate reading when it comes to
measuring distance and taking photos. These capabilities all work together to m help the user make
more informed decisions which in turn produces more favorable results with little guesswork. Most

Similarities Between Achaemenid And Greek Empires
The Achaemenid Empire was one of the strongest empires in Southwest Asia during the first
millennium B.C.E. Courageous and skilled Persian conquerors allowed Persian rule to spread
beyond Persian territory, creating one of the largest early empires (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). However,
across the Mediterranean Sea was dwelled a more advanced empire with a stronger military, the
Greeks (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). These prominent early empires possessed many similarities and held
the ultimate goal of building and maintaining an advanced empire and society. Yet, their
Southwestern and Afro Eurasian cultures consisted of several different beliefs and ways of life.
The 5th and 6th century B.C.E polytheistic Greek traditions tremendously differed from the religion
of the Achaemenid Empire, which believed solely in Ahu Mazda, the supreme god (Dunn Mitchell,
2014). The political structures of the Achaemenid and Greek Empires were also vastly dissimilar,
unlike the united Achammenid Empire; Greece consisted of several poleis (city states) (Dunn
Mitchell, 2014). The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they did not practice as brutal of slavery as the Greeks did. Also, like the Greeks the
aristocrats held the royal and high positions (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). Governing officials called
satrapies, held the task of collecting taxes from the Persian people for the royal treasury (Dunn
Mitchell, 2014). Unlike the Greek Empire, the Achamenid dynasty was unified under one emperor.
However, the emperor and his entourage moved throughout Persia, thus there was no specific
capital (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). Dunn Mitchell (2014) found that the Persian Empire was a funnel of
trade . Their early popularity and dominance among Southwestern territory resulted in their
universal mission to rule the world (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). The Persians were one of the first
among many to have this goal of conquering the world, as they knew

Science Astronomy Nebula Essay
Science Astronomy
Nebulas
What are nebulas? How did they come about? Nebulas are made up of dust, hydrogen helium and
plasma. Nebulas, essentially gaseous clouds, are formed. A supernova is a star that collapses
under its own gravity after it dramatically increases in its brightness. The first nebula, Dumbbell
Nebula M27, was discovered by Charles Messier on July 12 1764. In 1784 William Herschel
invented the name Planetary nebula after he had started comprehensively scanning the deep sky
and discovered a famous planetary nebula, the Saturn Nebula NGC 7009 in 1782. The nebula
theory, states that this theory is the most accepted evolutionary theory for the formation of the solar
system from a cloud of gas and dust particles known as a nebula. The process starts with a rotating
cloud of gas and dust that contracts and flattens to form a disk around a star forming at its centre.
Planets grow from the dust and gas in the disk and are left behind when the disk clears. The
process of a nebula forming is linked to the creation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people question how the solar system was made and a theory was developed by Emanuel
Swedenborg, Immanuel Kant, and Pierre Simon Laplace. This theory provides more evidence
for society to believe. The solar system is thought to be created from enormous spinning cloud.
This cloud was made up of gas and dust. The core of a cloud grew under the influence of gravity
and as a result it became denser and hotter. Material was collected into the core and the cloud
increased in speed and became flat, almost like a disk shape. As the cloud became increasingly
hotter the cloud generated enough energy to create a nuclear fusion. The light gas was distributed
far out in the solar system. This light gas left rocky materials and metallic that had high melting
points were left behind. These materials clumped together caused by mutual gravity and formed

My Point Of View 20th Century
Diala Tadros
Unit #3 exam
Q1
A.From my point of view 20th century period is the best and the worst time to represent the
western culture. But it s the best for the most part. Western culture refers to the culture of any
country that is a part of the western world. The western country is always democratic has neo
liberal capitalist economy. Has a separation of church and state, and high livings standards with
materialistic society? The USA, UK, France are examples of western countries. Western cultureis
also a music type and lifestyle that come from the western countries. Best it boosted the economy,
increase technology, creates a foundation for future. Negative increase change to lose their roots
and values. The major historical events in the 20th century are first The European Imperialism in
Africa and Asia. Second World War 1 it was directly triggered by the assassination of Austrian
archduke, Franz and his wife. And third the Russia Revolution is the revelation that had 2 parts the
February revolution was essentially a bread riot that spiraled out of control. And October revelation
was much more organized affair.

The Blackfoot Nation Essay
Across Canada and the United States there are many First Nations languages which are a part of the
Algonquian language family, all of which with varying states of health. Although these languages
share many characteristics of the Algonquian language family, the cultures, systems of beliefs, and
geographic location of their respective Nations differentiate them. In being shaped by the landscape,
cultures, and spirituality of the First Nations, the language brings the speakers closer to their land
and traditions while reaffirming their identity as First Peoples. Using the BlackfootNation to further
explore this concept, this paper will show that while language threads together First Nations culture,

For example the Kainai, which means many leaders , did not choose to be referred to as the
Blood Nation (Bastien 2004, 10). There are many explanations as to how the Kanai became
widely referred to as the Blood Peoples. One explanation is that it comes from a Cree term used
to describe the Kanai by the red paint, which looks like blood, that is used in ceremony to paint
their face and hands red. A second explanation is there was a mistranslation of a term used to
describe the Kanai as wearers of white weasel pelts, to wearers of blood (Bastien 2004, 10). This
mistranslation comes from the similarities of the words for blood and the term used to describe
the changing of the white weasel pelts to white with the seasons (Bastien 2004, 10). In this case,
the Kanai, through the use of their language are asserting their preference to be known as the
many chiefs, over the Blood Peoples or the wearers of blood. Though today, the Blackfoot territory
is defined by reserve/reservation boundaries and divided by the United States Canadian border, their
homeland, Nitawahsinnanni ( our land ), continues to be defined by topographical features using
their language (The Blackfoot Gallery Committee, 2013, 12). This traditional homeland spans from
the North Saskatchewan River (Ponokasisahta, the Elk River) as far south as the Yellowstone
River, Montana (Otahkoitahtayi) and from the Rocky Mountains as far East as the Great Sand Hills

The Real Business Cycle Theory Model
The two main models that draw most attention from the neoclassical period are the Solow model
in the long run and the Real Business cycle incorporated with the Ramsey consumption or Euler
equation in the short run. The Ramsey model in the short makes a more accurate depiction of
what consumption and production in an economy would look like. The model in the short run
follows a Dynamic stochastic general equilibrium; this type of model is more complex and
allows for it to show economic growth in a closed cyclical model. The Ramsey model, which is
the The Real Business Cycle Theory model in the short run, is far superior to the long run Solow
model. However, the long run model by Solow has its benefits because it represents a closed
economy producing one good with constant capital accumulation; yet, it fails to account for
technological changes and other shocks that take place in an economy. This model is used over
such a long period that it becomes a very theoretical generalization. Both these models explain
growth in the economy, but the short term Real business cycle theory is a more accurate
representation of economic growth as it depicts a direct correlation between consumption and
production and accounts for economic shocks. These two models aim to explain how economic
growth takes place due to changes in production and consumption. Economists have constantly tried
to explain how growth occurs in an economy. This is done by the creation of different models and

The Causes Of The European Colonization Of North America
The European conquest of North America was not inevitable. Small groups of Europeans claimed
large areas densely populated by hostile Indian nations. The English and Spanish faced particularly
fierce resistance from the Wampanoag and Pueblo peoples in present day New England and the
American Southwest. The Wampanoags and Pueblos both revolted against European colonization
and conquest in 1675 and 1680 due to attacks on their sovereignty, attacks on their welfare, and
mass death. The Pueblos were more successful than the Wampanoags because they gained from the
revolts while the New England Nations lost everything during King Philip s War. In both cases,
Indian nations formed the first pan indigenous, anti European alliances, and Europeans secured a
beachhead in North America King Philip s War began due to escalating Puritan attacks on
Wampanoagsovereignty, forcing the Confederacy into a war for survival. The path to war began in
1662 when the Wampanoag Chief Metacomet rose to power. He denounced illegal Puritan seizure
of Wampanoag traditional hunting grounds. On multiple occasions, English settlers jailed
Wampanoag hunters for trespassing on ancestral Indian lands. This attack on Wampanoag
sovereignty denied that Indians could have a legitimate claim to their own territory. By
accomplishing this, English colonists could declare the Indian s authority void as an excuse to take
more land. Relations soured in December of 1674 when John Sassamon, a Christian Indian, was
murdered by Wampanoags for reporting Metacomet s war preparations to the English. Puritans
arrested three Wampanoags, tried them for murder, and hanged them. This was the first time
English tried an Indian for crimes against another Indian. The trial demonstrated that the English
believed they also had authority over Metacomet s people. By using the English courts to try an
Indian on Indian murder, the Puritans again claimed the Wampanoags had no authority, and
therefore were not worthy of respect as a nation. This disrespect allowed the Puritans to see them
not as people, but as pests to be removed from their land. Beliefs such as this led to further
escalation by the Puritan leaders. Tensions rose, and Metacomet formed a coalition

A Project Manager For Monitor And Control The Execution Of...
Once a project is begun, it is important for a project manager to monitor and control the execution
of the endeavor. A project manager must observe and examine how the work is progressing, the
costs, application of the resources required, and if the schedule is being sustained with the overall
project plan. This is especially important when a project manageruses the earned value management
(EVM) system to track and monitor an undertaking. EVM and variance management must have
accurate material and labor costs accounted in order to be an effective tool.
Labor and Material Costs
Resources are essential for completion for any project, but must be managed differently because
of the constraints and accounting each specifically demands. Labor, materials, and equipment fall
under the definition of resources and how they are managed within a project will greatly impact
the endeavor (Larson Gray, 2014). An important resource for a project is the human resource or
labor and the skills that each individual brings to the project team. Ordinarily, direct labor is
classified by skills and the costs related to provide those skills to complete the work. Direct labor
costs are normally calculated by multiplying the hours required to complete the task by the salary
scale designated for the task. Indirect labor costs encompass any support staff that is not directly
involved within the project, like human resource, administrative, and other ancillary staff (Webb,
2016). Even though these

Path Loss Formula
If we set the receive antenna gain is G_R, and О»=c/f is the wavelength (in meters),
c=3Г—гЂ–10гЂ—^8 m/s, the effective area A of the transmit antenna is:
A=G_R О»^2/4ПЂ (2.2)
Then, the received power as a function of distance d can be calculated as:
P_R (d)=(wв€™A)/L=(P_T G_T G_R О»^2)/((4П
ЂгЂ–d)гЂ—^2 L) (2.3) where L (L≥1) is the
system loss factor.
Commonly, we set G_T=G_R=L=1 in simulations for easier calculation.
From the formula 2.3, it is easy to see that the received signal power falls off inversely proportional
to the square of the distance d between the transmit antenna and receive antenna. Also, it is
proportional to the square of the signal wavelength О», which ... Show more content on

It only considers the wavelength of the carrier frequency and the distance between transmitter and
receiver, which is usually used for estimate the channel or system design.
In this model, the receive power at distance d can be expressed as:

P_R (dBm)=P_T (dBm)+K(dB) 10Оіlog_10 (d/d_0 ) (2.8) where d_0 is the reference distance and
it is usually assumed to be 1 m to 10 m for indoor environment and 10 m to 100 m for outdoor
environment, Оі is the path loss exponent which depends on the surroundings. The value K is
sometimes set to be the free space path loss at distance d_0, which can be calculated as:
K(dB)= 20гЂ–logгЂ—_10 ((4ПЂd_0)/О») (2.9)
2.3.3. Atmosphere gaseous losses
Similar to other microwave wireless communication systems, millimeter wave communications also
suffer from a large propagation loss. However, compared with the one using lower carrier
frequencies, millimeter wave propagation is facing more challenges. Two most severe attenuations
for millimeter wave propagation are atmosphere gaseous losses and precipitation attenuation, which
are hardly ever occurring in low frequency wave bands [17].

The Life and Writings of Kurt Vonnegut Essay
Kurt Vonnegut is celebrated as one of the most successful novelist in the Post Second World War
period in the America. His literary works have had varied impacts on American culture, including
the use of the word karass amongst college students, the naming of the pop groups Ice Nine Kills
and The Billy Pilgrims , and the frequent use of the term So it goes as written in Vonnegut s
obituary on the New York Times (Farrell, p.ix). This article examines the impacts of Vonnegut s on
his literary work. It reviews the influences of his childhood experiences, his education, service in
the army, and employment at various settings on his work as a writer. His work caught the attention
of a larger audience due his simplicity and humor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be explained by his earlier educational life as a science student at Cornell University
and his interests in science fictions. Even though Vonnegut was supportive of talking of the
contributions of technology in the modern life, he was not quick to embrace technology in his
literary works. For instance, he typed his essays and stories on a typewriter rather than a
computer; he always relied on the U.S. Postal Service rather than e mail; and he warned
repeatedly of the dangers of technological advancement, (Farrell, p.ix) His dissenting views on
technological advancement are illustrated in his literary works like Tomorrow and Tomorrow
and Tomorrow and Welcome to the Monkey House which depict how humans can face serious
problems associated with population explosion if all the infectious diseases are eradicated. In
the Player Piano, he explains how human labor will be taken by machines, creating a condition
of extensive joblessness and helplessness in the modern world. Also, in Cat s Cradle, he talks of
the detriments of technological advances in military science, which could lead to the creation of
deadly weapons such as ice nine or neutron bomb which destroyed Midland City, Ohio as depicted
in the Deadeye Dick (Farrell, p.ix). In his works, Vonnegut also uses ill fated characters, individuals
who are pressed by conditions

Informative Essay On Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a national holiday to commemorate fallen and current men and women for
serving our country. One year after The Great War, November 11 was declared as Armistice Day
by President Wilson. It officially became a holiday on June 1, 1954. Then later the name was
changed to Veterans Day on October 8th (Office of Public Affairs). From then on it was a
widely celebrated holiday. People were let off work/ school to come together with their families
to honor people who sacrifice themselves for the freedom we take for granted everyday. For us
seeing a soldier take time out of his day to risk his/her life to save ours from a terrorist attack it
may be extraordinary, but to another serviceman it is a normal occurrence (Hensley, Robert).

Vets, and what makes it even harder for most is the fact that they suffer from mental health
problems such as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) (PTSD: National Center for PTSD). This
disorder is very serious and can be extremely dangerous for not only the Vet but the civilians around
them if left untreated, which is difficult when you are not receiving support from anyone. However,
there are people who are making an effort to help and support the Veterans. These ordinary people
saw a problem and came together to find a solution, while they still need improvement the are

Bootlegging and Al Capone Essay
BOOTLEGGING In 1919, the Eighteenth Amendment was passed, this amendment made the
consumption and sell of alcohol illegal. A group of people referred to as moral reformers felt that
banning the sell and consumption of alcohol would better protect the lives of people as well as
make them better (Rose). Businesses, such as industrial businesses, believed that it would better
productivity if the workers could remain sober. The Volsted Act was passed shortly after the
Eighteenth Amendment to make sure it was enforced since local authorities did not do such; there

  • 2. Essay about Chief Justice Taney and Slavery The Art of Avoidance; Chief Justice Taney and the Question of Slavery Their present decision is equivalent to a repeal of law and the making of law. This is not adjudication, it is mere usurpation. It is the substitution of mere arbitrary will in the place of the solemn and responsible functions of an impartial judicature. [1] The 1857 Dred Scott decision proved that Chief Justice Roger Taney s sadistic racism could be eclipsed only by his unbounded arrogance. Using outright lies regarding the intentions of the Framers, he temporarily sacrificed the entire African race, and directed the Supreme Court to move in and illegitimate and supercede the powers vested to Congress by the Constitution. Dred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scott s assertion was that he had become a free black as a result of his residency in Illinois, and as such he could legally sue for his freedom in the state of Missouri after his owner, John Sandford, laid his hands upon said plaintiff, Harriet, Eliza and Lizzie, and imprisoned them, doing in this respect, however, no more than what he might lawfully do if they were of right his slaves at such times .[3] Scott sought redress in the federal courts as a citizen of the United States, not as an abused slave, an important distinction. According to the Constitution, only a citizen, as defined by the aforementioned document, could seek an audience with the federal court, but a slave was not considered a citizen, but property. Yet in an almost complete contradiction to himself on over question of the term citizen, Taney stated, Undoubtedly, a person may be a citizen, that is, a member of the community who form the sovereignty, although he exercises no share of the political power, and is incapacitated from holding particular office. ,[4] citing the limited status of minors and women. If having no political voice, no ability to hold power, or property, and living a marginalized existence were consistent with the definition of citizen, as was held and put forth by the framers of the ... • 3. Essay on Life, Death, What Dreams May Come Unconditional love can be described as a pure affection bereft of circumstance. It is a true positive regard of others that bares no judgment. In a sense, unconditional love has no boundaries. In the film What Dreams May Come, the boundary between life and death fades and a family s bond is tested. Tragedy by tragedy, unconditional loveand guiltplay major roles in the defiance of the laws of death. Chris Nielsen, the main character of the film, travels to the depths of the afterlife to find his beloved wife Annie and restore his family. In an epic journey that questions the very fabric of reality and faith, the Nielson family overcomes all odds and is reunited in the end. Throughout the film, unconditional love is represented in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nielson s genuine compassion for their young makes it exceptionally difficult to lose Marie and Ian later on. When both children are killed in a car accident on the way to school, the chain of misfortune begins to claim the family. Annie, who had the nanny bring the kids to school that morning due to a work commitment, blamed herself for the loss of her children. When the lives of children are taken too soon, it is as if they are cheated of having a chance at life, and the parents are punished for no reason. Upon realizing this, Annie is institutionalized for depression and suicidal tendencies. The film clearly shows Annie s devastation by her appearance. Her long, brown hair is now chopped short and she smokes cigarettes. This physical deterioration coincides with the emotional trauma that occurs when a child dies. The loss of her children infected her heart with an unwarranted guilt that made her question her faith in herself, her religion, and her marriage. When Chris mentions getting a divorce because she is so lifeless, she realizes that losing the only love left in her life would kill her. Their unconditional love is strengthened by the loss and Annie learns to forgive herself over time. Forgiveness is often the first step, whether in saving a marriage or a long term emotional healing process. The next life that is lost occurs on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rick Jones Case Michigan state Senator Rick Jones, a republican from Grand ledge, the sponsor of 943 bills, and a former employee of law enforcement is reaching to accommodate Michigan s speed limit. That could mean a 75 80 mph speed limit on certain parts of the freeway, or even the adjustment of 55 mph on curves, and crowded areas with constrained visibility. His reasoning behind this proposal is his belief that some communities are setting low speed limits on roads to increase ticket dividend. His plan for this action is to leave the calculations for a better flowing freewaysystem to the Michigan State Police. Their method would include using trafficdata to find the speed that 85 percent of michigan s drivers already use. Danny Gustafson, a current employee for the Michigan Senate spoke to the same political science class at LCC, that Rick Jones did. When asked what his thoughts were about Rick Jones, he laughed and replied Well Wherever there is a camera, there his is. He explained that it is an ongoing joke at the house. Jones told MLive that There s a loophole in current law, when it comes to our speed limits, and this bill will fix that. • 6. TSA TSA Paper TSA, or Transportation Security Administration, needs to be improved. It is time consuming, invasive and often ineffective because of pat downs and body scans. TSA is a major part of American airport security. In a world where such precautions are necessary, the system should be vastly upgraded to actually provide the security it claims to give. Some children dream of acquiring X Ray vision as a superpower, but did it ever occur to them that it strips a person of their rights and degrades them? Body scanners used in airports put people in a vulnerable state as a naked image of them is captured. Another way TSA attacks an individual s rights is when they are patted down in front of their family or friends and countless strangers. This is the perfect opportunity for the worker to get handsy and grope an innocent person waiting to get on a plane. On top of how invasive TSA is, it is also ineffective and therefore abusing people s rights for an unbacked reason. In A Heartbeat Symbolism As a viewer of the short film, In a Heartbeat , I experienced through a generation of a never ending swirl of feelings that at times left my heart completely shattered, while at others, sent my heart soaring in contentment for characters I have bonded with over the duration of merely 4 minutes. I was able to understand and appreciate the thoughtfulness of these accumulated feelings that encloses the matter of universal love. Without the use of words means that anyone from any country would be able to understand this, demonstrating universality. It was remarkably impressive how producers were able to convey a bittersweet and touching tale that potentially could surpass the acceptance standard of civilians; and to creating such a controversial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the film, a very powerful message was communicated towards the audience which was reflected off of symbolic traits. One form of symbolism that stood out was the personification of the heart. The heart represents the intense emotions the main character feels; the desire to near the supporting character. The message conveyed is that your emotions can neither be controlled nor restrained, as they are stronger and will lead you to the yearned for person. It indicates that everything happen for a reason, and that resisting against something which is bound to happen will only convolute situations, as this is evidently shown in the film. Further exploration can be done when the heart was physically broken. It represents loss, grief, misery and is showcased when each character holds half of the heart with dejected expressions. Additionally, another symbolic representation is the apple. In my opinion, the supporting character couldn t have been able to spin the apple that way, and I believe producers have made it this way done this for a reason. It shows that regular actions or physical appearances are sugarcoated when we see those we idolize. The character may realistically not be exceptional to that particular standard, however, seeing through the eyes of someone who admires, situations may become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Importance Of Speeding While many deadly vehicle wrecks involve two or more vehicles crashing into each other, a recent single car crash demonstrates why it is important to be a cautious driver even when there are not other vehicles around you. The crash, resulting in the death of a 14 year old boy and injuries to three other people, happened when the driver came to the top of a hill at a high speed. The man lost control of his vehicle and ended up going off the side of the road and crashing. There are several things you should do to ensure a safer drivingexperience whenever you are on the road. • 9. Defining Couples Hiv Testing And Counselling 1.Overview Couples HIV Testing and Counselling HIV Testing and Counselling HIV antibody tests were first issued by the World Health Organization in 1992 (WHO, 1997), since then with frequent update of recommendation, and advancement in innovation (Rotheram Borus et al., 2000) HIV testing and counselling continue to be the gateway to HIV prevention, essential treatment and care (Fonner et al., 2012, WHO, 2012b). Knowing one s HIV status used to be considered as a death sentence. However, after having the right treatment peoples view changed into considering the status as a chronic condition (Bedingfield et al., 2014). Thus the development of life saving drugs for HIV/AIDS patients markedly shifted policies to encourage uptake of HIV testing(WHO, 2012b). In spite of that, WHO/UNAIDS in 2014 reported that, globally not more than half (49% 58%) of people living with HIV know their serostatus (WHO, 2015b, UNAIDS, 2014b). To address this gap, in 2014 a new global 90 90 90 target introduced in called to reach at least 90% of all people living with the virus to know their HIV status; 90% of all those diagnosed with HIV infection to receive sustain antiretroviral therapy; and 90% of all those initiated the treatment to have viral suppression by the year 2020 (UNAIDS, 2014a). • 10. Analysis Of The Poem The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight Many characters in The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven show beneficial traits, physically and mentally from telling their stories. The author of this book, Sherman Alexie, portrays that the art of telling stories opened new avenues for native Indians to preserve or, more or less perceive their historical and cultural traditions. One of the main characters, Thomas Builds The Fire tells stories that had historical settings and viewpoints. They offered knowledge on tribal insights and how Indians have experienced change over the years. Victor, the other main character in the story also tells many stories about his past, but unlike Thomas Builds the fire, his stories are more bleak and realistic. Storytelling helped show how the White people treated Native Indians, and how they fared against each other. In one of the short stories The Trial of Thomas Builds the Fire , the main character Thomas tells a very interesting story about all of the native Indians past. Thomas closed his eyes and began to tell his story, It all started September 8, 1858. I was a young pony, strong and quick in every movement. I remember this. Still, there was so much to fear on that day when Colonel George Wright took me and 799 of my brothers captive, Imagine, 800 beautiful ponies stolen all at once. It was the worst kind of war crime. But Colonel Wright thought we were too many to transport, that we were all dangerous. In fact, I still carry his letter that day that justified the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Assessing India s Mobile Number Portability India has more than 900 million mobile connections. To assess the MNP it is of paramount importance to understand the psyche of the Indian consumer. More than 95% mobile subscribers are prepaid, reflecting a price sensitive consumer. This in conjunction with aggressive price competition has led to a high churn rate. Under these circumstances MNP should be high in demand. But contrary to this in the first 12 months after MNP implementation in 2011, only 5% of the churning customers preferred to take benefit of MNP, clearly indicating lower affinity for the same number. This trend could be attributed to several factors. Subscribers in India lack the patience to wait a week for while the porting procedure is completed. On the other hand the prominence of free SIM cards, instantly available at every nook and corner, has very much reduced consumer s apprehension of letting go of the number. Growth in Multi Sim card devices has also helped consumers to hold on to the previous numbers while going in for a new cheaper alternative. What did not help is the discretion used by the operators in many cases to reject porting applications. In such a high churn market, the 90 day waiting period between two porting applications restricts the free movement of subscribers, who are always on the lookout for the cheapest telecom plan. MNP hasn t been without its share of controversies. TRAI has had to file litigations against three telecom companies on the ground of not disclosing to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Eucalyptus Trees In The Age Of Miracles In the novel The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker, there is a main theme of coping with uncertainty and disaster. All of the characters do this in their own unique ways some through rituals and other through hope. The eucalyptus tree is abundant in the main character Julia s home town. The eucalyptus tree is a very familiar symbol for Julia and everyone who lives near her. Instances involving the eucalyptus are spread throughout the noveland help to solidify the theme of coping with the disaster and change through familiarity and rituals. The novel The Age of Miracles is set in California and starts as the earth is experiencing a new slower rotation called The Slowing (Walker 1 304). This change is the earth s rotation is causing changes in the length of days and changes in gravity (Walker 1 304). The eucalyptus was introduced to California around the 1950 s and was seen as a potential new lumber and would help save the lumber industry (Walker 1 304). However, it was later discovered that the tree was not a miracle or a cure for the lumber problems and was not a viable source of lumber, which was a huge disappointment (Farmer 18 22). Although they eventually discovered it was not a useful lumber wood it had been planted all over the state and became a familiar symbol for the people of California (Farmer 18 22). The use of the eucalyptus tree in the novel parallels the hope and eventual loss of hope that the tree symbolized for the California lumber industry. Long before the trees eventually start getting sick and dying off, Julia mentions them around all the major points of the novel. I believe it helps her feel like the changes are not as serious or permanent as they are and that as long as she can see the trees there is hope of things returning back to ... I have noticed that a majority of the groceries I bought were store brands. I have bought okra cut, frozen pizza, spaghetti, sauce, white bread, banana, milk and pancakes from the store brand stop shop . Store brands are relatively cheaper comparing to foodbrands. Therefore, it is beneficial for SNAP program members to buy store brand groceries to cut back on a few dollars due to their limited budget. Other than store brand products, I have also bought numerous brand name products, including the quick grits, Italian style meatballs, ramen noodles, apple juice and yogurt. Physical Environment In Africa It is easy to forget about the trials and tribulations of the physical world because we are constantly being distracted by the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Between rising skyscrapers, expanding cities, and growing populations many forget about the ground they walk on and how their actions impact the long term use of the land we capitalize on every day. In Africa, the physical environment has a huge impact on what plants and vegetation grow throughout the continent, affecting how its inhabitants live their daily lives. It is through Africa s physical environment and climatevariability that determines the continent s diverse vegetation species and drives local economies. Africa s Physical Environment Africa s physical environment is a vast piece of land due to several factors. A large reason as to why the continent is so large is because of the number of cratons that exist throughout the continent, which contain areas that are composed of ancient crystalline basement rock (Child, Lesson 2.1, 2017). Due to its long dated history, Africa has a very complex geological makeup. Another contributor to this vast continent s physical environment is the impact of tectonic plates. Because the tectonic plate Africa sits on is relatively stationary and there has been no collision of neighboring plates, mountain chains have not formed. However, a geographical element that is well known due to the impact of continental plates is the formation of the Great Rift Valley (McKenna). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, by this point in the story, the reader is aware that Miss Brill has deluded herself. These works offer expositions of and opinions on the philosophical issue of the moral worth of adhering to a certain set of values, and how a person s motivations for doing so can change their worth and the desirability of their way of life. Wolf offers the position that leading an extremely morally good life is undesirable, while Mill s opposing position is that if moralityleads to happiness, then that behavior is preferable. To determine which of these stances on the value of morality has the most pertinence, these two arguments will be outlined and consequently analyzed. Their differences and similarities will be enumerated and described, and consequently their merit will be discussed. Finally, Wolf s moral theory will be proven to be inferior to Mills s, due to its prejudice, lack of supportive evidence, and its inability to be universally applicable. In Moral Saints , Susan Wolf defines a moral saintas an individual who is as morally good as it is possible to be. Wolf suggests that there are two types of moral saints, utilitarian and Kantian (Wolf 420). A utilitarian saint is a Loving Saint , one who simply finds their own happiness in the happiness of others and performs moral actions for their own sake (Wolf 420). The last 25 years the world has undergone a transformation similar to that of the industrial revolution. The internet revolution or the information age has fundamentally changed the way the world is run in every facet. Every industry has adapted or been revolutionised by the information age, with media being no exception. As new forms of media emerged, concepts such as online gaming and online gamblingbecame reality in the 2000 s. • 39. The History Of Police And African Americans Essay African Americans in modern America have bound together in unity against inequality to help end the unnecessary murders and unjust police beatings. However, where did these tensions between police and African Americans begin? This question can be answered by looking at the history of police in America and why they were originally established. Police first came on to the scene in 1704 when Carolina established the nation s first slave patrol that would turn into what we know today as the modern police. The slave patrol had the duty of searching for runaway slaves and returning them to their masters. Therefore, the original reason the police force was established was to deal with black slaves and it seems as if some officers today still hold that as their job title. However, this was just the beginning to the negative police encounters that many African Americans would have to endure. With the ratification of the 13th amendment and the freeing of the slaves the slave patrol became what is known as modern day police. During reconstruction the police began a war to create a new form of slavery, this form of slavery was known as convict leasing. Although, the 13th amendment legalized the enslavement of anyone convicted of a crime it seemed as if it was only used against African Americans. This new method of enslavement sky rocketed the rate of African Americanarrests and created new laws in the south such as the pig laws which sentenced anyone who stole a pig to 5 years in ... Tolkien s Negative And Positive Liberty Tolkien s Negative and Positive Liberty In today s world, people, especially politicians, talk about liberty but they do not mean precisely the same. Liberty and freedom should be treated as the same thing. The reason attributed to this assertion is that the words liberty and freedom come from old English and old French respectively, and they both have the same meaning, which is being unconstrained. The problem with unconstrained is that the natural world, including rocks, gravity, and weather, limit man s desires and power. Nebulas, essentially gaseous clouds, are formed. A supernova is a star that collapses under its own gravity after it dramatically increases in its brightness. The first nebula, Dumbbell Nebula M27, was discovered by Charles Messier on July 12 1764. In 1784 William Herschel invented the name Planetary nebula after he had started comprehensively scanning the deep sky and discovered a famous planetary nebula, the Saturn Nebula NGC 7009 in 1782. The nebula theory, states that this theory is the most accepted evolutionary theory for the formation of the solar system from a cloud of gas and dust particles known as a nebula. For example the Kainai, which means many leaders , did not choose to be referred to as the Blood Nation (Bastien 2004, 10). There are many explanations as to how the Kanai became widely referred to as the Blood Peoples. One explanation is that it comes from a Cree term used to describe the Kanai by the red paint, which looks like blood, that is used in ceremony to paint their face and hands red. A second explanation is there was a mistranslation of a term used to describe the Kanai as wearers of white weasel pelts, to wearers of blood (Bastien 2004, 10). This mistranslation comes from the similarities of the words for blood and the term used to describe the changing of the white weasel pelts to white with the seasons (Bastien 2004, 10). In this case, the Kanai, through the use of their language are asserting their preference to be known as the many chiefs, over the Blood Peoples or the wearers of blood. The Real Business Cycle Theory Model The two main models that draw most attention from the neoclassical period are the Solow model in the long run and the Real Business cycle incorporated with the Ramsey consumption or Euler equation in the short run. The Ramsey model in the short makes a more accurate depiction of what consumption and production in an economy would look like. The model in the short run follows a Dynamic stochastic general equilibrium; this type of model is more complex and allows for it to show economic growth in a closed cyclical model. The Ramsey model, which is the The Real Business Cycle Theory model in the short run, is far superior to the long run Solow model. However, the long run model by Solow has its benefits because it represents a closed economy producing one good with constant capital accumulation; yet, it fails to account for technological changes and other shocks that take place in an economy. This model is used over such a long period that it becomes a very theoretical generalization. Both these models explain growth in the economy, but the short term Real business cycle theory is a more accurate representation of economic growth as it depicts a direct correlation between consumption and production and accounts for economic shocks. • 50. The Causes Of The European Colonization Of North America The European conquest of North America was not inevitable. Small groups of Europeans claimed large areas densely populated by hostile Indian nations. The English and Spanish faced particularly fierce resistance from the Wampanoag and Pueblo peoples in present day New England and the American Southwest. The Wampanoags and Pueblos both revolted against European colonization and conquest in 1675 and 1680 due to attacks on their sovereignty, attacks on their welfare, and mass death. The Pueblos were more successful than the Wampanoags because they gained from the revolts while the New England Nations lost everything during King Philip s War. In both cases, Indian nations formed the first pan indigenous, anti European alliances, and Europeans secured a beachhead in North America King Philip s War began due to escalating Puritan attacks on Wampanoagsovereignty, forcing the Confederacy into a war for survival. The path to war began in 1662 when the Wampanoag Chief Metacomet rose to power. He denounced illegal Puritan seizure of Wampanoag traditional hunting grounds. On multiple occasions, English settlers jailed Wampanoag hunters for trespassing on ancestral Indian lands. This attack on Wampanoag sovereignty denied that Indians could have a legitimate claim to their own territory. By accomplishing this, English colonists could declare the Indian s authority void as an excuse to take more land. Relations soured in December of 1674 when John Sassamon, a Christian Indian, was murdered by Wampanoags for reporting Metacomet s war preparations to the English. Puritans arrested three Wampanoags, tried them for murder, and hanged them. This was the first time English tried an Indian for crimes against another Indian. The trial demonstrated that the English believed they also had authority over Metacomet s people. By using the English courts to try an Indian on Indian murder, the Puritans again claimed the Wampanoags had no authority, and therefore were not worthy of respect as a nation. This disrespect allowed the Puritans to see them not as people, but as pests to be removed from their land. Beliefs such as this led to further escalation by the Puritan leaders. A project manager must observe and examine how the work is progressing, the costs, application of the resources required, and if the schedule is being sustained with the overall project plan. This is especially important when a project manageruses the earned value management (EVM) system to track and monitor an undertaking. EVM and variance management must have accurate material and labor costs accounted in order to be an effective tool. Labor and Material Costs Resources are essential for completion for any project, but must be managed differently because of the constraints and accounting each specifically demands. Labor, materials, and equipment fall under the definition of resources and how they are managed within a project will greatly impact the endeavor (Larson Gray, 2014). An important resource for a project is the human resource or labor and the skills that each individual brings to the project team. Ordinarily, direct labor is classified by skills and the costs related to provide those skills to complete the work. Direct labor costs are normally calculated by multiplying the hours required to complete the task by the salary scale designated for the task. Indirect labor costs encompass any support staff that is not directly involved within the project, like human resource, administrative, and other ancillary staff (Webb, 2016). Even though these ...
