2. Female Stereotypes The Cause Of Women s Oppression
Peter Pan: Female Stereotypes the cause of Women s Oppression
The movie Peter Pan (1953) is about how Wendy and her brothers believe in silly
fantasies but to her dad it seems to be problem since Wendy is already a young lady
and needs to act more like her own age and stop acting like a little girl. So Peter Pan
takes Wendy and her brothers to Neverlandso they never have to grow up. He takes
her so she could be a mother to the lost kids in Neverland. While they are th they
have many fun experiences like meeting mystical creatures for example mermaids
and fairies.Wendy uses this experience to realize she can t stay a kid forever and
that she has to go back and grow up. To anyone this movie is nothing more than a
movie for children, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an example of hegemonic feminine ideology because they put out Wendy s
mom to be the typical housewife that agrees with whatever her husband says. This
shows how women are supposed to be submissive and do as they are told by their
husbands. But it also shows how women are suppose be more silent than men and
are not meant to speak out what they think and how women are never in charge.
They do this to show that the women always have to support the men in whatever
they are doing. They always have to be one s cheering for them. Society has the
idea of women always having to be the supporters of whatever their men are doing
they have to be right there along them supporting them and cheering them on
because according to society that is the women s job. Later on in the movie
Wendy tells Peter Pan it is her last day in the nursery room because she has to grow
up and Peter Pan tells her to go to Neverland where she doesn t have to grow up but
Wendy tells him what would her mother say if she left but she has to explain to
Peter what a mother is since he doesn t know. So she tells him Why, Peter, a mother
is someone who.. Who loves and cares for you and tells you stories. (0:14:42) and

3. Public Broadcasting in the Article “Moving beyond the...
In their article Moving beyond the Vast Wasteland , Laurie Ouellette and Justin
Lewis critique how public broadcasting functions in the US. Liberal reformers hold
to the view that television needs protection from commercialism. The liberal
reformer view contains cultural and class hierarchies. They believe that public
television is for the white, college educated middle class viewer who has cultural
capital (Ouellette Lewis, 96). As a result, funding for public broadcastinghas gone
primarily towards high culture and intellectual programs and not sitcoms or other
popular forms of television. Ouellette and Lewis disagree with this, saying that these
types of high brow programming are not the only ones worthy of public investment.
Instead, they argue that popular programs that are being commercially maintained
also merit public support and investment (96). Rather than reserving public
broadcasting for more educational programming, the authors argue that there is a
more progressive solution that can incorporate popular media forms while still
veering away from commercialization. Thus far, pubic television has failed to adopt
popular media forms. Public television stations such as PBS failed to attract larger
and more diverse audiences because they kept their programming intellectual and dull
rather than building on popular aspects of television culture. Ouellette and Lewis
argue that PBS could have incorporated sitcoms, soaps, and sports into their
programming and then

comes to shopping for presents he isn t messing around and asks for help from Best

would just love it they ll love you.
I think this commercial uses the category of Luxury, leisure and conspicuous
consumption. This commercial uses the Extraordinary and excessive style type of
persuasion because throughout the commercial the images were in slow motion.
b)A woman walks with a suitcase explaining that she usually hates being away from

In this commercial it uses the repetition and redundancy means of persuasion. The
woman said it was good not to be home. Then right after that they used the graphics
means of persuasion to put its good not to be home over the blurred image of her and
had another voice repeat the same phrase.
c)A man runs out to the back yard with his young daughter where there are piles of
leaves on the ground. Two people jump out of these piles and the four people began
to throw leaves at each other. A voice then says sometimes projects become more
then checking of your to do list. Then shows True Values logo.
This commercial falls into the Folk culture and tradition category of marketing its
product. This commercial uses graphics and animation as a means of persuasion. It
does this by putting the phrase the value of spontaneity it made value red, and nearly
in the center of the screen to make eyes be drawn to it.

5. Nicotine Receptors
For over a long period of time nicotine contained in tobacco has been documented as
substances that develops health problems in the body if used, continuous research on
this alkaloid have shown that the substance have certain beneficial effects of the
body. What made it a potential drug target is following the identification of a family
of genes coding for neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors also known as
(nAChRs) and more knowledge of their expression and function in the braincentral
nervous system (Suto Zacharias, 2005). nAChRs are receptor proteins that can
respond to neurotransmitter acetylcholine and drugs in the body. In human beings
they are located in the brain central nervous system and they play a significant role in

When nAChRs are activated, they enhance the release of many neurotransmitters that
are involved in focus, attention and executive memory. It is also believed that the
substance has a direct role in information storage in the brain through modulation of
glutamatergic neurotransmission (Lloyd Williams, 2000). Studies have shown that it
can be used in treatment Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer s and
Parkinson s diseases. This has been shown by a situation in which smokers who
survive the negative effects of smoking have a low incidence of being attacked by
neurodegenerative diseases (Lloyd Williams, 2000). It has been proven that acute
administration of О±4ОІ2 selective agonist or nicotine on a person suffering from
Alzheimer diseases improves recall behavior. There are findings from the biological
psychiatry that many unmedicated depressed patients exhibit hypothalamic pituitary
axis (HPA) hyperactivity (Shytle et al., 2002). So far the available evidence have
shown that nAChR have played a significant role in mediating stress related and more
likely depression inducing neuroendocrine effects of Ach (Shytle et al., 2002). An
example is that in rat experiment, it has been proven that nAChR antagonist block the
physostigmine induced rise in plasma corticosterone levels of rats, furthermore, ACh
induced CRF release from the brain hypothalamus is repressed by nAChR
6. Franz Liszt Contribution
Franz Liszt (1811 1886) Liszt was not only a principal figure in the Romantic
Period but also a composer of enormous originality and arguably the greatest piano
virtuoso of his time. As a composer, he radically extended the technique of piano
writing, extended the harmonic language, and later developed chromatic harmony
which led eventual breakdown of tonality, revolutionizing the music of the era. As a
pianist, Liszt was the first to give complete solo recitals, and he did a great deal to
encourage the performance of music by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner,
and Robert Schumann by transcribing their works for piano and playing them in his
concerts at a time when they were insufficiently appreciated. He also helped younger
composers, and he taught a number of pupils who themselves became famous
virtuosos. Franz Liszt, one of the greatest pianist, was a living legend and admired
by some of the most accomplished musicians in the world. His skills captivated his
audience and impressed many musicians of his time. When Franz was five years
old, he was already attracted to the piano and was soon given lessons by his father,
Adam Liszt. He began to show interest in both church and Gypsy music. Franz
began to compose at the age of eight and at only nine years old, he made his first
public appearance as a concert pianist. He gave several concerts in Vienna, with
great success. Liszt moved with his family to Paris in 1823. Liszt s Paris debut on

Millions of Americans are diagnosed with gastrointestinal disorders every year. Many
can be controlled with lifestyle changes and medication. Gastroesophageal reflux
disease (GERD) is one of these gastrointestinal disorders that can be controlled with
medication. Looking at pharmaceutical advertising, this paper will focus on two
different internet gastrointestinal medication advertisements, one that is FDA
approved and one that is not. Both were found on the internet that targets the general
population with frequent heartburn symptoms. Each advertisement will be critiqued
individually. This paper will also describe the pathophysiology of this GI disorder and
the ways medication can alter this pathophysiology. Finally, these two commercials
will be compared and contrasted, including the stated use of medication, patient safety
issues, and analysis of that company s claim of its benefits. Critiquing Internet

usually described as a burning feeling in the throat or chest. It is only when the signs
and symptoms start to occur two or three times a week that it becomes a problem.
Many people will seek out information about medication that will help either through
the internet, magazines or television. There are many commercials out there that
promote one medication or another for this problem. Pharmaceutical advertising uses
different techniques to get the viewer to buy their product. Two of

The typical Latin American Internet user is a 26 year old, middle class man who
has used the Internet for less than a year and whose favorite site for doing Web
searches is Yahoo. At least, that is the conclusion of a study conducted by the
advertising agency Nazca Saatchi Saatchi Inc. The age of the average user shows
that more young people are getting online in the region, since the average age in
1997 was 31 years old.
Recent studies have also indicated that the Internet is becoming more accessible to
middle and lower class people. Latin American Web surfers prefer Web sites that
provide information about music, local news, chat services, information about
computers and information about art and culture.
After Yahoo, the most popular search sites are AltaVista, Cade, Radar UOL,
StarMedia, Infoseek, Lycos and Excite.
Most respondents log on from home (53 percent), followed by work (31 percent).
Most people (54 percent) use the Internet every day, 20 percent five or six days per

9. Increasing Competition On The Balance Sheet
With the increasing competition on the balance sheet both between banks and from
non banks financial institutions, banks have diversified their product into non
intermediary financial services as a result. One of the results of this has been the
remarkable growth in the percentage of off balance sheet (henceforth OBS)
activities. Generally, OBS item refers to an asset or debt that does not appear on the
banks balance sheet, e.g. standby letters of credit, currency and interest rate swaps
etc. In the last two decades, with the deregulation of the financial markets and
improvement in financial innovations, banks are encouraged to offer new financial
products and services to increase their profit (Jurman, 2005). Actually, decreasing
profitability of traditional banking and increasing competitiveness of markets
force banks to undertake OBS activities. Therefore, banks have expanded OBS
activities dramatically, not only on the volume of traditional OBS items, but also
the use of risky innovations (Khambata and Hirche, 2002). The data of European
commercial banks shows, the OBS activities increased from less than 50% of total
outstanding loans in the early 1990s to 150% of loans in the early 2000s. A similar
trend has also occurred among commercial banks in the United States (Bos and
Kolari, 2013). Specifically, on the one hand, as we can see from table 1, the share of
OBS activities have been growing dramatically among sample developed markets
banking industry. On the other
10. Vegetarianism Philosophy Essay
Vegetarianism is a custom practiced in six out of the seven continents and has
become more popular over the years. Vegetarianism can be defined as the exclusion
of animal products such as meat and fish from one s diet. Dairy products and eggs
are often times excluded as well. Although there are many reasons one may decide to
become a Vegetarian or follow such a code of ethics, the most common include:
moral, religious or health reasons.
Morally, one may feel obligated to exercise Vegetarianism due to the inhumane
treatment of animals throughout the farming process. The issue is that roughly ten
billion animals are raised for United States food consumption alone. Animals such as
cows, fish, chickens, pigs, and turkeys are subjected to ... Show more content on

However, it is not an argument of which life holds more value. The argument is that it
is immoral to subdue animals to inhumane conditions for the purposes of efficiency
and human food consumption.
For some, the choice of Vegetarianism is decided based on religious beliefs or
practices. Vegetarianism is compatible with the major world religions the Eastern
Religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism) and the Abrahamic Religions (Judaism,
Islam, Christianity, and BahГЎ Г Faith). Among these, it is most commonly
practiced by those of the Buddhist, Christian and Islamic faith. Vegetarianism within
the Buddhist culture is taught along with the Four Noble Truths, which focus on the
acts of suffering. Since the Buddhist faith accepts the idea of karma, it is believed
that in order to maintain a life of peace and happiness and remain free of suffering,
one must refrain from the harming, injuring or killing of any living being. As part of
the Christian faith, animal cruelty is forbidden. The teachings of Jesus Christ focus
on the ideas of love, compassion, mercy and acceptance. Although the question of
eating meat is not directly addressed in Christian doctrine it can be implied that
since animals are a creation of God and the idea of love for all of God s creations is
heavily stressed in the Christian faith, then out of Christian love on should lead a life

On May 3rd when I visited the site where the Norman Blumberg Housing Project
once stood, the air was hauntingly peaceful. I had read about the notoriety of the site
during my research, how over its existence it had become an area of concentrated
poverty and crime, but on this day this urban setting was quiet and calm. On the two
square city blocks where a complex of apartmentbuildings once ruled the landscape,
only a single high riseremained among the unchecked wild grass. However, even in
the peacefulness of this day in Sharswood, the looming presence of the infamous
Norman Blumberg Apartments could still be felt. After standing for nearly six
decades, the two public housing high rise buildings that once defined Blumberg

As a central part of this analysis, I will be discussing the role Blumberg Apartments
played in the deterioration of Sharswood. I will also be evoking the Pruitt Igoe
myth as Blumberg Apartments shares many similarities with the notorious Pruitt
Igoe development. Finally, I will present and discuss the future transformation of
Sharswood as detailed by the Sharswood Blumberg Neighborhood Transformation
Plan. To judge the success or failure of Blumberg Apartments, we must first analyze
the project as it works to provide good housing. Good housing should not just be
regarded as a noun, it should also encompass housing as a verb. The commodity of
the house as a shelter is the noun. This commodity should provide a place for
redressing. It should hold the essential necessities that make for a comfortable and
complete home. A place that balances privacy and social interactions. As a verb, good
housing should be a utility that works to enhance one s life (Turner, 1972). It should
be a stepping stone towards opportunity. For Blumberg Apartments in the grand
scheme, both of these facets can be regarded as failures. As the housing projects
suffered through massive deterioration, it failed as a commodity. Residents described
how their housing had stairwells that reeked of urine and dirty diapers, constantly
breaking appliances and elevators, and the frequent sounds of gunshots (Colaneri,
2016). Furthermore, units were found to not meet minimum size standards and

13. Visual Representation in the Movie Donnie Darko
There have been countless numbers of films produced and directed in the past
decade that could be labeled as weird or bizarre, however, one of the most head
scratching and unusual films to hit the big screen in the past decade was Donnie
Darko (2001), directed by Richard Kelly. The film depicts a troubled adolescent
named Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal), who after surviving a near death experience, finds
himself at the center of numerous acts of violence and vandalism in his community,
possibly due to his growing insanity. Arguably, one of the highlights of the film, if not
the main highlight, occurs during Donnie s first day back at school since his close
brush with death. This dreamlike and hyper amplified school entrance montage that

aspect of the montage, from character to character there as an undeniable theme of
love in this particular clip as well. The Tears for Fears song is considered to be a love
song all on its own, accurately titled Head over Heels . The fact that the actual
dynamic of the scene is sped up, it makes the viewer feel dazed, as if he or she is
actually walking in those halls, experiencing first hand what it feels like to be in
school again, wondering if that special someone will walk by and lock eyes with one
another.
Despite the lack of dialogue in this scene, the cinematography alone gives much to
discuss. The scene starts out with Donnie exiting the school bus from the back
emergency exit as opposed to the front exit. Oddly enough, as the bus back door
swings open, the camera is positioned at a canted low angle, capturing Donnie
exiting from a horizontal view as opposed to right side up. It is likely that Kelly
planned this according so. Without a doubt, Donnie would never have survived the
jet engine crashing into his room. The room unoccupied at the time of impact, Donnie
unknowingly cheated death. It could be implied that Donnie s
14. Multicultural And Social Justice Competencies (MSJCC)
Over time, society has become increasingly diverse and globally connected. In order
to meet the needs of an interconnected society, the American Counseling Association
(ACA) endorsed the creation of multicultural and social justice competencies (Ratts,
Singh, Butler, Nassar McMillan, McCullough, 2016). The Multicultural and Social
Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC) were developed in order to showcase
the importance of integrating MSJCC into all aspects of the counseling profession.
Originally, these competencies were geared more toward majority professionals
working with minority clients. However, it has become more clear that the range of
diversity is endless and it is not uncommon for privileged clients to be counseled by
minority counseled (Ratts, et al., 2016). To assist mental healthcare professionals with
navigating the complex issues of power and privilege, diverse cultural world views,
and appropriate interventions, a conceptual model was created (Ratts, et al., 2016).
The model is an aspirational, life long commitment counselors take that requires
constant growth (class notes). It is not something that can be completed in a session

March 29, 1998 was just another typical day for headline news in Sioux Falls. The
Argus Leader was filled with your everyday politics, sports, entertainment, weather,
and life news. Eight inmates serving life sentence in the South Dakota State
Penitentiary met to discuss better living conditions for all prisoners (Steen). On a
more positive note, the annual Sioux Empire water festival was held at the
University of Sioux Falls. Around 2,200 fourth graders, from surrounding
communities, gather to learn more about the abundance of their natural resources,
and how to preserve them. Thirty booths were set up at the site displaying how to

As far as youth sports, nothing was more popular than the tri state basketball
tournament held every year in Sioux Falls. The event attracted over 2,900 athletes
as well 289 teams ( Tri State Crowns 30 Champions 5C ). While these events
happened in our area more headline news caught the eye of South Dakotacitizens.

farmers who preserved wetlands not enrolled in the Conservation reserve program

18. Exploring Henry Ford (NHD)
I choose Henry Ford as my topic for NHD this year because I was interested in how
cars were made and he invented the assembly line to make them. I am starting by
researching Henry Ford on Google and in books; starting by reading Fordlandia
the rise and fall of Henry Ford s forgotten jungle city By: Greg Grandin. I am going
to find my sources through google and at the library. I m working with Julieta on
NHD because I work better when I can have someone to hold me accountable.
My topic fits the theme exploration, encounter, and exchange. To begin, Henry Ford
fits the theme of Exploration because Henry Ford explored an idea of the assembly
line. For example Henry Ford had to explore his ideas and put them to science to
make sure they work.

argue that Romeo and Juliet could have done many things differently to prevent

Mantua and waited on the priest, and a very good idea would have been that they
could have aloaked and ran away. First of all, Romeo did not have to kill Tybalt,
because the Prince was going to kill him anyway, as a punishment for murdering
Mercutio. I can see how some people think Romeo did the right thing by killing
Tybalt. Tybalt did murder Romeo s best friend. If Romeo would not have killed

Changes in ENSO and Tropical Cyclone Activity in a
Warming Climate
James Hlywiak and Brad Guay
Intro
The El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is a sea and air temperature anomaly in
the equatorial Pacific Ocean that has important implications for the climate around
the world. When sea surface temperatures are abnormally high in the Eastern Pacific
off the coast of South America, an El Nino is occurring, while a La Nina occurs
when they are abnormally low. The Southern Oscillation is the term given to the
pressure anomalies along the Pacific and Indian equator. It can be thought of as a
swing in pressure fluctuations, and is a major contributor to El Nino/La Nina events
(Rasmussen and
Wallace 1982). ENSO events can last for years, and their anomalies have wide
ranging impacts across the globe, impacting much of the world s population in one
way or another (Pidwirny 2006). For example, ENSO can inhibit or enhance tropical
cyclone activity in the Pacific and Atlantic basins. It can also affect monsoonal
patterns around the world, leading to droughts in some areas and heavy rainfall in
others (Bell 2014).
El Nino can be thought of as a positive feedback loop. It occurs when the easterly
winds, called the trade winds, which dominate the equatorial Pacific weaken due to
oscillations in pressure along the equator, which allows increased convection usually
confined to the Western Pacific to expand eastward. This draws precipitation to the
east as well,
23. Descriptive Essay On Bye Bye Birdie
Bye Bye Birdie , a musical by Michael Stewart is about a vastly known rock star,
Conrad Birdie, who gets drafted by the army, causing a frantic ruckus within his
fan base. The news of him being drafted spreads far and wide and though his fans
march against it, there is nothing they can do. Meanwhile, a struggling songwriter
whose song was supposed to be featured in Birdies upcoming movie, begins to
plunge into a frenzy, since this feature was supposed to be his rise to fame, in a
way. Seeing that he will no longer have a song in Birdies movie, Rosa, Alberts
lover and longtime girlfriend, goes on a mission to somehow give him the break he

Petersons monologue in act 2 scene 6, in which she claims, ...a son is running
around with some Mexicali Rose who came over for the fruit picking season, and
stayed to ruin an American woman s life! As a result, she attempts to baby him in
every little detail of his life, leaving him feeling the need to confide in her for
comfort and protection. Furthermore, It s often said, if you love something, let it
go. If it comes back to you, it s yours forever. But, in Mrs. Petersons case, it seems
as though the saying has shifted to, if you love something, hold on tight and never
let go, or else you ll lose it forever. Honestly, she is not at fault for thinking this way.
Despite the fact that Mrs. Peterson comes off as a strong and persistent woman,
inside she has a weakness in her. In any case, she is afraid of losing the only thing
she has left, her son. Moreover, her husband is dead and she has no other children,
so it is reasonable as to why she would cling on so dearly to him. Essentially, there
is an ordeal of comfort in holding on tight to something you love because letting it
go is a risk, a gamble. To hold on tight is to put faith in yourself and your ability to
keep a grasp on the ones you love, while letting go is to put faith into an abyss of
nothing, as seen in the eyes of Mrs. Peterson. Above all, she doesn t want to risk
everything and hand over her son to another woman. Conversely, she wants to hold
on to him and never let him go. Although, she may say

Innately, some people are more athletic and coordinated than others, and this may
be true even if one eye is covered. On the contrary, there are certain people that have
a hard time with hand eye coordination regularly, and may struggle to catch the ball
in all conditions. Especially in the case of athletes and non athletes I can imagine
there may be somewhat of a difference. For people that are used to partaking in a
certain ball sport, catching this ball with one eye may seem easier than the
coordination they are used to when playing a sport. In contrast, non athletes may
struggle specifically, as they are not used to receiving a ball hardly at all.
Furthermore, if one of the prior events were to occur, the results would show no
significant difference in short versus long distance in monocular and binocular

Lab Report: Owl Pellet
Kirsten de Jong
September 19, 2015
1.An owl pellet is made up of portions of things which an owl can t digest. The pellet
can contain things like feathers, bones, fur, and teeth, these things have very little
nutritional value to the owl. These things are tightly formed together in the owl s
stomach, which is then spit out by the owl every 12 hours producing two every day.
2.Owl pellets are home and food for many different fungi and insects. Fumigation
is the removal of any small insects, germs, or other pests from a room or other area,
with the use of gases or smoke. It is necessary for the pellet to be fumigated so there
is nothing growing inside of the pellet that wasn t there when the owl had spit it out.

There would be major changes if the barn owl wasn t part of the food web. There
would be many more rodents and other pests in agricultural and forestry land, which
would eventually become overpopulated. God created a perfect world and if there
was even one animal that wasn t part of an ecosystem, there would be many species
with overpopulation issues.
8.Bioconcentration is when tiny creatures capture chemicals from debris, which is a
large source of diseases, and water which are then devoured by large populations of
zooplankton. Larger organisms like my sides then eat the zooplankton, fish feed on
the mysids, this continues until the herring which is at the top of this food web. This
can causes many diseases to spread over a period of time from one creature to the
next and possibly worsen. Bioaccumulation is when the matter of an organism
increases in concentration.
9.Owls can be seen as the most threatened of an ecosystem which is threatened by
pesticides because it is the highest trophic level in the food web. The higher the
trophic level, the higher the concentration of toxins in the species. There may be a
tiny bit of pesticide in a plant which is then eaten by a insect which is then eaten by
a shrew. The shrew then gets more toxins, then giving the owl which is at the top of
the food web the most toxins causing it to become sick and die. Overall, these
pesticides in ecosystems can disturb food webs, ecosystems, and hurt
26. The Waste Of Municipal Solid Waste
Purpose
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle has been the mantra of administrations and
environmentalists since the early 1970 s and is as relevant now as it was then.
Household recycling behaviors have become a common strategy for the diversion of
municipal solid waste (MSW) from landfills and energy recovery plants (ERP).
Although many, if not most, residences engage in at least some recycling behaviors
significant amounts of trash reaching landfills and ERPs could have been
recycled. There exists a wealth of research regarding how and why the populace
engages in recycling and what potential barriers result in a high percentage of
recyclables reaching landfills and ERPs. It is the position of the author that one
significant barrier is a lack of current educational initiatives presented to household
recyclers at regular intervals. For example, the recycling industry recently gained
the ability to facilitate used pizza boxes. A quick anecdotal sample of my immediate
neighbors found that they were still discarding these items with their MSW. The
ambition of this research is to identify practical, cost effective, methods to keep
residential recyclers informed of current recycling abilities. The research seeks to
investigate the result of directly applying informational placards on residential
recycling. Will the increased and readily available information and instructions lead
to higher recycling rates and greater diversion of recyclables from MSW? By
applying the treatment to
27. The Benefits Of For-Profit Schools
It is no secret for profit schools are around to make money. Whether they should be
able to charge a higher amount for tuition or not is the question. Often times people
over look for profit schools because people think it is absurd to charge a ridiculous
amount of money for an education. What people are not considering when they
make the unconscious decision to rule out for profit schools is how well these
schools actually run. Although it may look like for profit schools are only around to
make money, but the honest truth is these schools will provide a superior and more
efficient way for students to earn a degree.
For profit schools are not just charging students a lot money and providing a regular
education; they are charging more money because of the quality of education they
are providing. Professors are hired based on how well they can teach, and then are
continuously trained to improve their teaching skills; for profit schools spend a
good amount of money to train their teachers the skills they should possess (Seiden,
Michael). Professors at for profit schools are trained to provide rigid coursework and
have high standards when grading; by doing so, for profit schools provide a better
education. The amount of student: teacher ratio in for profit schools is substantially ...

think this might not even go to college because they have kids or other obligations.

Becoming a Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) in the United States Air Force is a
very significant milestone within an Airman s career. Achieving such honor builds
confidence, pride, and commitment. For those who step into the role as an NCO
quickly find out leadership is more complex than just sewing rank onto a uniform. I
ve recognized that the type of leader I am currently is considered being Management
by Exception Passive (MBE P). Being MBE P my leadershipapproach is based on

If I m not physically fit and have emotional problems I can t handle, I will not be
very effective dealing with my subordinate s concerns. Understanding the
importance of wellness will not only allow me to improve as a leader but also
improve the quality of life for my subordinates. As an NCO I, must be able to lead
and provide direction. If my wellness is affected it could also affect the orders I
give to subordinates. The Knowing Yourself concept deals with verbal and nonverbal
interpersonal communication. When my wellness dimensions are affected
negatively it causing my interaction with subordinates, peers, and supervisors to be
different than normal. Being unaware of my nonverbal communication during
wellness breakdowns can cause my subordinates to misinterpret my orders; and
misinterpreted orders leads to lives being lost. So, improving my self awareness of
my own tendencies and wellness dimensions improves my interaction and support I
provide my subordinates. The next step after improving my self awareness of who I
am, will be focusing on who I want to become.
The Authentic Leadership concept provided me with a self knowledge of how I can
invest and contribute to the development of myself and others. The 4 Dimensions of
Wellness will help me develop and maintain a positive psychological state which is a
piece of becoming an Authentic Leader. Being aware of my behavior toward others is
encompassed within the Knowing Yourself and Authentic Leadership
29. High Fat And Low Carb Diet
Learning that (good) fats are good, and wheat is bad (white or whole, it all has
gluten), one may think, What should I eat then? . The answer is a high fat and low
carb diet. An excellent example of such a diet is called the Paleo diet. Nutritionist
Stephanie Eckelkamp discusses the theory behind the Paleo diet, The theory is,
our bodies haven t evolved to properly digest these modern foods, which became
widely consumed only upon the advent of agriculture 12,000 years ago . Evolution
happens very slowly, so our stomachs know the chemistry of meat, fat, and veggies.
It knows how to break them down. If the species of felines have been eating meat,
then why would anyone start to force all cats to start eating beans and rice? That
food wasn t meant for them, and it would probably make them really sick. If
humans have been eating meat, fat, and veggies for so long and have been never
had a problem with weight, then why is everyone so surprised that large quantities
of GMO food (genetically modified food that has been changed in a lab), featuring
modern day gluten, has dramatically increased obesity and is killing more people
than cigarette smoking? What about the people who have lost weight with the low
fat and high carb diet? A recent study done by a Harvard team of professors looks at
the difference between high fat and high carb and their effects for weight loss. Amby
Burfoot, who wrote an article explaining the study, reported this, After six days, the

The term mentoring has surged into the literature in many disciplines (e.g., sociology,
social psychology, education, management, social work, healthcare management, etc.)
over the last several decades. Mentoring emerged in the organizational literature in the
late 1970s (e.g., Clawson, 1979; Collins and Scott, 1978; Kanter, 1977; Phillips,
1977; Roche, 1979; Shapiro et al., 1978). Since that time, hundreds of books and
articles (popular press, practitioner oriented, and academic) have been published on
mentoring in various organizational settings alone, not to mention other settings in
which mentoring has been examined (e.g., teaching, nursing, social work, etc.)
(Kelly, 2001). Published works in the organizational literature on mentoring have
been anecdotal, conceptual, and empirical; and several journals have dedicated
special editions to mentoring. By and large, these published works have highlighted
the overwhelming perceived benefits (e.g., increased mobility, promotion
opportunity, and total compensation), and minimal perceived drawbacks of
mentoring (Campion and Goldfinch, 1983; Kelly, 2001; Scandura, 1992, 1998;
Whitely et al., 1991, 1992). Hence, mentoring has been proclaimed as one of the key
career development and advancement tools in the

The second stanza tells about a glorious lamp of heaven , the sun, running a race from

youthful they think they have all the time to accomplish their goals but times still

Huffer 2 always wins and people are old before they know it (Herrick 385). The
meaning and theme of carpe diem is clearly described in the four stanzas of the

people are young to realize their dreams and do something about it instead of
wasting time. Have as much fun as you can while you are a kid and do as much as
you can when you are a teenager and most importantly live everyday to your highest
expectations. The way I comprehended Herrick s ways of portraying the poem with
images and what it means tells how it makes me feel.
I really like this poem because it makes me want to get out of bed in the morning
or turn off the television and do something productive like read a book, or go to the
gym. It perfectly reveals the true meaning of carpe diem. The very first sentence
alone tells me to get things done while I can. Now when I think of To the Virgins,
to Make Much of Time , it will remind me of carpe diem, which will make me want
to make every minute of my day account for something good whether it be reading a

Over the last twenty years, scientists have been developing brain implants to help
people suffering from Alzheimer s disease, dementia, stroke and/or brain injuries to

more invasive both in terms of interconnections within the physical body and our

In 2013, at Duke University School of Medicine, scientists implanted brain chips into
rats barrel cortex to teach them see infrared light that they normally cannot see.
Neuroscientist Miguel Nicolelis and Eric Thomson made an experiment where they
implanted four clusters of sensors into the barrel cortexes of the rats that were
responsible for their senses. Those clusters converted infrared light into an electrical
signal that stimulated rats to go to one of the four feeding stations. Rats would go the
feeding station where the infrared light was on and press the button on the feeding
station to receive the reward. In an older, single sensor version of the experiment, it
took the rats one month to adapt. With four sensors, it took them just three days
(Coghlan). What interesting was that rats original senses stayed the same without
changes, plus they learned to use their new sense of seeing infrared light. Later,
scientists want to teach rats see the ultraviolet light, microwaves, radio waves, and X
rays. A reporter for New Scientist Andy Coghlan stated, It seems that nature

negative effects in development so its important to prevent the negative as much as
possible. The skull is also soft and not as hard when we are born so babies are very

preventable. Malnutrition is very sad problem and a child should have to suffer from
not getting the proper nutrition or having access to healthy foods. There are many
programs out there putting a dent to prevent this on is called Stop Hunger Now. To
grow properly nutrition plays a big role in development. The proper nutrients help
with the rapid growth for the child to be able to reach its physical potential

Executive Summary This research paper will provide an analysis and evaluation of
the effects that wars leave on business. Examples of these include embassies that
prohibit their citizens to visit those countries in war. If these countries at war base
their economy in tourism this will result them to not be economically stable since
there is a ban in visiting their countries. Since there is no tourism and no business to
survive on, the citizens of these countries may resort to drug business to feed
themselves. Wars can impact economic effects and make investors seek investments
in other countries. This substantially can result in these countries to not have no
supply and demand in the economic growth. This substantially affects the nations
economy. However, some of the effects of war may not be bad sometimes they
create revenue for the country s income. This research paper will analyze these
effects. An excessive military spending can displace the economy instead of focusing
in other areas to as investmentsin high tech industries, education or infrastructure.

35. Juxtaposition In William Gibson s Poetic Devices
Gibson uses various poetic devices to create an effective, mysterious poem. In this
essay, I will describe the devices, and the way he uses them to create mystery. The
poet uses juxtaposition by various devices, personification and alliteration. Gibson
uses juxtaposition to compare the difference between the journey on the investigator
s boat, and the actual island. On the journey, the weather broke blue and bright ,
however on the island it is ghastly in the cold sunlight . In my first piece of evidence,
the poet uses alliteration of the b sound, which is pleasant and easy to say, making it
feel friendly, however cold sunlight is an oxymoron, making it seem as if, on the
island, even the sun feels cold and unwelcoming. The difference in the environments
happens so suddenly, the reader feels unfamiliar and disorientated due to the change
in environments. This use of alliteration and an oxymoron in conjunction creates a
strong contrast, also known as juxtaposition. These poetic devices makes the reader
feel unfamiliar, and disorientated, causing the reader to... Show more content on

36. Vancouver s Temperature Analysis
Average Annual Temperature Winnipeg s climate is colder than Vancouver s
climate by 6В°C. This is mainly due to the fact that Winnipeg has a slightly higher
latitude by 0.6В°, and has a substantially higher elevation by 235 m. These two
factors are the main reasons why Winnipeg s average annual temperature is lower
than Vancouver s average annual temperature, since the greater these values are, the
colder the climate appears to be. Annual Temperature Range Winnipeg s annual
temperature range is wider by 22В°C. This is mainly due to the fact that Vancouver
is on the west coast, so this moderates the temperature range a lot more for Vancouver
than Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba do for Winnipeg. This moderates the
temperature because water takes

Benefits of volunteering
19 October 2005
Volunteering has a meaningful, positive impact on your community. But did you
know that it can have many benefits for you too? Here are some reasons to volunteer:
Learn or develop a new skill
Volunteering is the perfect vehicle to discover something you are really good at and
develop a new skill. As Mahatma Gandhi said, Live as if you were to die tomorrow.
Learn as if you were to live forever. It is never too late to learn new skills and no
reason why you should stop adding to your knowledge just because you are in
employment or have finished education. Planning and implementing a major

Sometimes a volunteer experience can lead you to something you never even thought
about or help you discover a hobby or interest you were unaware of. You can
strengthen your personal/professional mission and vision by exploring opportunities
and expanding your horizons.
New experiences
Volunteeringis a brilliant way to get life experience. Whether you build a library or
mail flyers to raise awareness for a local charity, you will experience the real world
through hands on work. This guide section has established that volunteers can do
almost anything and with the new millenium has dawned an era of infinite volunteer
opportunities. For example, it is possible to volunteer in developing countries and
see the direct impact of your actions on some of the most vulnerable people of the
world. You could skydive for charity, a chance to experience the ultimate thrill and
raise funds to help the charity continue its work.
Meeting a diverse range of people
Volunteering brings together a diverse range of people from all backgrounds and
walks of life. Both the recipients of your volunteer efforts and your co workers can
be a rich source of inspiration and an excellent way to develop your interpersonal
skills. Volunteering also offers an incredible networking opportunity. Not only will
you develop lasting personal and professional relationships but it is also a great way
to learn about people from all walks of life,

is comprised of three basic components; the generation of electrical energy,
transmission of this energy, and the distribution of this energy to end consumers. A
key element of this system is the diversity of utility providers. There are multiple

Simplistically, a majority the generation of electricity on the grid comes from the
combustion of fossil fuels to heat boilers that moves steam through a turbine. The
spinning action of the turbine attached to a motor creates electricity which is sold on
the power market. Other sources of energy can be used to heat the boiler, including
nuclear fission, methane, and wood products. In addition, hydroelectricity and wind
power can also be used to generate energy through mechanical action on the turbine

photovoltaic cells which convert the energy of the sun into electricity. Regardless of
how it is generated, electricity has a very short life; it must be consumed or stored

problems. Rising health care issues that are being explored include the advantage of
pharmacological treatment based on individuals genetic makeup, the rise of urinary
tract infections (UTIs), as well as recommendations for preventing heart disease in
women. The idea that human beings are as different to one another as they are alike
is not new and these differences are related to the genetic make up of each individual.
Because all human beings are not identical, one can safely assume that... Show more

Clopidogrel can be prescribed prophylactically to high risk patients or to those who
have experienced atherothrombotic events such as strokes, acute coronary syndrome,
peripheral arterial diseases or any other thrombi producing illnesses (Cheek, 2013).
Clopidogrel works by inhibiting the binding of adenosine diphosphate to platelet
receptors, thus, disrupting the process of platelet formation and preventing platelet
aggregation and thrombi formation. However, in order to inhibit the binding of
ADP, clopidogrel has to be converted to its active form by the enzyme CYP2C19*1.
Unfortunately, some people have lost the ability to produce enzyme CYP2C19*1 and
instead produce a variant form known as CYP2C19*2. CYP2C19*2 cannot convert
clopidogrel to its active form, making clopidogrel useless in patients who carry gene
CYP2C19*2. Providentially, pharmacogenomics can identify variant genes with
DNA sequencing prior to prescribing medications in order to assure the effectiveness
of pharmacologic therapy. This also helps health care providers to prescribe alternate
medications when appropriate. Other drugs of research include the anticoagulant
warfarin, the antiretroviral agent abacavir, and the antibody trastuzumab. All these
drugs have genetic variant forms that can affect the effectiveness of pharmacological
therapy. Warfarin is a vitamin K antagonist used to prevent thromboembolic disorders.
Another major area of concern is the growing crisis of
