The Common Raccoon ( P. Lotor
The common raccoon (P. lotor) has been said to be one of the most widespread urban mammalian
carnivores. Characterised by its fox like face, bushy striped tail, and unmistakable mask of dark
patches around their eyes, the growing population of urban raccoons has become somewhat of an
epidemic. These small creatures are known for their relatively high intellect, enabling them to access
human resources. Raccoons are omnivores, and have been consistently observed to eat virtually
anything. Additionally, even though raccoons are technically both primary consumers and secondary
consumers, they are best described as being scavengers. Raccoons have very little social structure
relatively; they are known as solitary animals, most likely stemming from their nocturnal behaviors.
Quite often, they will be found traveling as either a family (until the young reach adolescence, at
which time they leave), or an individual. They are notorious carriers of disease, can outcompete native
species, and can be quite aggressive when confronted by humans. For these reasons and more, the
urban raccoon is considered a pest, and in many areas there have been countless efforts to control their
populations (Gehrt, S. D., et. al., 2010, Pg. 35 47). This paper will propose actions that would need to
be taken in order to deter raccoons from pursuing human waste as a food source in the effort of
controlling their population.
Due to the raccoon s opportunistic nature, overtime the species have found

The Rise Of The Welfare State
The Rise of the Welfare State
In America today, just over ten million people are on unemployment insurance, one hundred and ten
million people are on welfare, and the total government spending annually is around one hundred and
thirty billion dollars (Welfare Statistics). The welfare state is a political system based on the
proposition that the government has the individual responsibility to ensure that the minimum standard
of living is met for all citizens. Specifically, in the matters of health care, public education,
employment, and social security, the welfare state assumes all responsibility. According to John
Rawls, In a just society the liberties of equal citizenship are taken as settled; the rights secured by
justice are not subject to political bargaining or to the calculus of social interests. The only thing that
permits us to acquiesce in an erroneous theory is the lack of a better one; analogously, an injustice is
tolerable only when it is necessary to avoid an even greater injustice (Rawls). In the 1840s, Otto Von
Bismarck, the first Chancellor of Germany, was the father of the modern welfare state. He built the
program to win over the support of the working middle class in Germany and ultimately reduce the
outflow of immigrants to the U.S., where welfare did not exist (Welfare State). In the United States,
not all companies provided workers with benefits, thus the workers appealed to the government,
giving rise to the first form of welfare capitalism.

Speech For Graduation Speech
Graduation Speech What is the secret to success? Many people think that you can rely on only on
yourself to be accomplished in this life time. However, there are many strategies to utilize on the road
to success and the concept of a self made man has a common misconception. Arnold Schwarzenegger
shattered this idea of the self made man as he presented his speech to the graduating class of Houston
University in the spring of 2017. The crowd was powerfully moved by the words that flowed from
Arnold s mouth. Arnold successfully establishes credibility, demonstrates emotion, and uses logic to
motivate this graduating class. Throughout this speech Arnolds exceeds in these three categories
tremendously. The accomplished actor, body builder, and the former governor of California sheds just
a little bit of light from his ray of success to the graduating class of Houston University. Arnold thanks
everybody from the president of the university down to the family and parents that are in attendance in
the crowd. Arnold talks about how if you reflect on his life and every accomplishment he has under
his belt it would be easy to assume that he did it alone. Arnold starts his speech by talking about his
dreams. Arnold talks about where his journey began. It all started when he was younger relaxing at the
beach and he met a lifeguard who introduced him to body building. At this moment, his life changed
forever he dedicated his life to the art of body building. This dream of being the

Six Key Principles Of Operation Anaconda
The mission command system is expressed as the placement of individuals within a unit conducting
operations with a specific set of procedures and principles in place to optimize the use of its
equipment. What does it mean to recognize or comprehend the art of Command and the science of
Control? There are six key principles of mission command in developing a cohesive team that support
all aspects of a mission. The following essay will discuss these principles and examine examples of
how the famous Operation Anaconda both endured victories and inadequacies. Introduction What
might have been the setback we previously faced in making decisive, clear or sound effective
decisions? Was it a defect in how Commanders and Leaders led units or troops, or perhaps the
philosophy in which we chose to command and control every aspect of the battlefield? What does it
mean to recognize or comprehend the art of Command and the science of Control? The six principles
of mission command are key in developing a cohesive team that will support all aspects of the
mission. Asking why is now encouraged when it pertains to certain situations or missions.
Understanding the purpose of why a course of action or desired outcome is necessary, leads to mission
success and a cohesive unit with thinking leaders. Thinking clearly usually isn t an issue for most
leaders, but position an individual in a situation of extreme stress or complexity, then there might be a
reason to be concerned. Through

Anna Deavere Play Analysis
In both the performances of Bill Irwin and Anna Deavere Smith, what theatre is and how it can be
effectively used is questioned and analyzed. At it s core, theatre is essentially a presentation given for
it s dramatic and moving qualities. Looking first to Bill Irwin, it is easily apparent within a few
minutes of viewing his play that it is a comedy. Throughout the performance the narrator reads the
script and all of its contextual cues meant only for the actor and for the stage setup. Bill can be seen
practically sprinting throughout the play as he goes on and off stage for separate numbers. He even
makes a point of changing outfits on stage. I believe by doing this, besides simply for comedic
purposes, the audience is forced to truly understand

Filling the Heels of the President
People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision. John Maxwell. Being part of the United
States, It is the inherent right and responsibility of each citizen to elect new leaders from term to term.
It is the ideal goal of these elections to choose someone who can be an effective ambassador for the
eyes and ears of each citizen both domestically and abroad. Carly Fiorina served as chairwoman and
CEO of Hewlett Packard from 1999 to 2005 where she had a profound positive impact on the
company in both its structure and net worth. She is also chairwoman of the Unlocking Potential

During the six years Fiorina led HP, the United States suffered from a great recession and the Dotcom
Boom caused most major technology companies stock to drop. Despite the economic crisis, Fiorina
managed to not only keep the company afloat, but doubled its revenues from forty two billion to
eighty six billion. Since the United States deficit is up to eighteen trillion dollars, electing a
conservative economist like Carly Fiorina seems to be the most practical option for recovery. Fiorina
is well versed in dealing with cost effective issues that has given her the tools necessary to rebuild the
country s budget crisis. In addition, she worked her way up to become president of Lucent
Technologies and was named The Most Powerful Woman in American Business after leading Lucent
to become the most successful IPO in history. The answer to reform this country s economy is to treat
it like a business. Among all the politicians that advocate reform, Fiorina possesses the business
acumen we need in our President. By zero based budgeting, the economy will have the outcome we
have all been hoping for. Lastly, Fiorina is fluent in making tough calls during tough times from being
a CEO in a failing economy. She is notorious for laying off thirty thousand workers at HP during
2001. These were the

Personal Experience Is The World Can Not Be Fully...
Personal experience is a gateway to recollection, attitudes, and knowledge. By trying different ice
cream flavors an individual can establish a preferred flavor, by playing in the outdoors an individual
can decipher his or her ideal season, and by looking at an array of colors an individual can determine a
favorite hue. Without personal experience, an individual inherently lacks a certain depth of knowledge
about the qualitative components of experience, and can only hold understandings based upon
physical components. In Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson asserts that physicalism is false
because the world cannot be fully described based solely upon physical descriptions. Jackson proposes
a thought experiment known as the Knowledge Argument that seeks to clarify the distinction between
formal knowledge and qualitative experience. Supporters of physicalism would contend that the qualia
is only relevant to ability, and formal understanding is the only significant component to knowledge.
However, Jackson s thought experiment successfully identifies an error in physicalism by
demonstrating that ability teaches a type of knowledge that cannot be taught through purely physical
terminology, which therefore affirms that physicalism proposes ideas that are narrow to be entirely
valid. Foremost, it is prudent to emphasize the difficulty in clearly defining physicalism. The general
idea is that science can tell us everything about the world. Specifically, physicalism asserts that

How Linguistic Ethnographers Blommaert And. Borba...
In the present essay, we have seen how linguistic ethnographers Blommaert and
Borba conceptualize ethnographic research in their two works, what function language had in the
observed, situated interactions and how it was approached to further investigate larger frameworks.
Besides the more technical aspects, we have seen that in both accounts, language plays a crucial role
in the reproduction of inequality and some sociologic and ethnographic concepts, when applied to
observation of linguistic forms, can help to grasp the larger structures regimenting institutional
practices.

Science And Science In John Wesson s The Science Of Soccer
Science is everywhere. John Wesson has proved that to many through his famous book, The Science
of Soccer. This book links both soccer and science together. Throughout this story the simple idea of
soccer will turn into a more complex version of science. Wesson teaches the readers about how
something so simple, like a ball bouncing, can relate to the more in depth laws of physics. While
reading this book one can learn what soccer really is, how science is described, and how science and
soccer are related. A common question in many young minds is, What is soccer? . In the words of
Wesson, Soccer s superiority derives from two sources, variety and continuity. At each point in the
game the players are faced with a wide range of options take the ball past the opponent on this side or
that, to pass short or long, low or high, to shoot or to lay the ball off and to whom (Wesson 85). Soccer
is a physical and mental sport. It is played with your feet, however, it is the mind that does most of the
hard work. It is also a team sport. It consists of dribbling, passing, kicking, and much more.
Sometimes there will be a bounce that must be trapped, and others there will be moves needed to blow
by a defender. The game varies. For instance, the book also reads, The ball is kicked in a variety of
ways according to the circumstances. For a slow accurate pass the ball is pushed with the flat inside
face of the foot. For a hard shot the toes are dipped and the ball is struck

My Experience At The Multicultural Dinners
Growing up in a small mountain town there wasn t very much diversity to be spoken of. However,
thanks to my parents, I was always encouraged and raised to never judge people who may seem
different from myself because no matter the race, religion, gender or appearance, we are all the same
on the inside. My first memorable experience that opened my eyes to the diversity that this world
contains was in high school during a special event called the multi cultural dinner. The dinner
consisted of different families that brought food, danced cultural dances, brought cultural costumes,
spoke about their religion and more all based on their country and culture. I was blown away at all of
the different things that go into each culture, or religion. I quickly discovered that I loved learning
about cultures that were very different from mine. The more obscure the culture, the more I wanted to
learn. From the connections I made and the people that I met at the Multicultural dinners, I was able to
travel to Spain for a month the summer after high school. I can truly say that is an experience that I
will never forget. I not only had to improve my Spanish, because my language was no longer the
majority but the minority. I also had to learn a lot about the etiquette of the spanish culture, try
different foods and much more. This all caused me to step outside of my comfort zone but also helped
me to grow as person and to cultivate friendships and experiences that will last me a

The Pros And Cons Of Subsidies In The Market
Free markets are very effective in determining an equilibrium in the market that benefits everyone.
Nevertheless free markets do not always reach optimal output levels due to external market forces
such as demographic factors or technological changes. The fact that a free market does not reaches
optimal output is called market failure and leads to welfare loss (also called deadweight loss). In order
to avoid market failure, government intervention, such as subsidies, is needed.
Due to the industrialization and to new technologies the production of food became more effective
than ever before. First the governments in the European Union supported and promoted the huge
production of food, until they realized that the farmers produced even ... Show more content on

One of these possibilities are subsidies. A subsidy is a financial help by a government for a specific
economic sector in a country s economy.
According to the WTO (World Trade Organization) a subsidy is defined as a financial contribution by
a government which confers a benefit. Also the WTO states that there are two general types of
subsidies. The first type of subsidy is an export subsidy which is defined as a benefit conferred on a
firm by the government that is contingent on exports. The second type of subsidy is a domestic
subsidy which is defined as a benefit not directly linked to exports. (www.wto.org)
Subsidies are a way for governments to intervene in the market in order to guarantee a stable market
and to eradicate the welfare loss. Welfare loss, also known as deadweight loss, is the reduction in total
economic surplus that results from the adoption of a policy. (McDowell, 2009 p.201)
A subsidy can appear in different forms, such as cash payments, tax concessions, and in kind
subsidies. Subsidies that appear in form of cash payments are mostly paid via cheque or bank transfer
to specific chosen firms or institutions.

scariest situations that could have ended in a nuclear war. Earlier that month John F. Kennedy send a

Cuba had nuclear missiles set out and they could fire them at any given moment if they wanted to.
John F. Kennedy saw this and the next day he immediately went to talk to the leader of the Soviet

Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations
For Smith, the value of all commodities that the market is supposed to promote is not come from the
money price, but come from the amount of labor required to purchase them because nobody wants to
purchase a good that is created with less effort. Therefore, the real value that the market needs to
promote is the labor that is invested in the product. For example, in real life diamond or gold is very
expensive but people do not really need them because without them, people still alive. On the other
hand, water or food is not as expensive as diamond or gold, but they are very necessary in real life
because we cannot survive without water and foods. According to Smith, to understand the difference
from these prices, we can look at the amount of labor needed to bring these products to market. The
money price of a particular community may fluctuate from a variety of reasons, but the amount of
labor needed to purchase it remains constant.
To promote that value, we should improve the division of labor, which is the greatest improvement in
the productive power of labor. Division of labor is always has the important role in increasing
productivity exponentially of a company. For Smith, division of labor is very important even in
producing a very simple product because it creates specialized knowledge of a particular trade or task
that makes the employees get

Gender Stereotypes In Gender Advertisement
In gender advertisement, images are used to portray stereotypical gender roles. In this advert I would
briefly describe its and then I would do the analysis. The advertisement is for Huggies diapers a
company that sell baby supplies. The purpose of the advert is to establish the role of a particular
gender against the other. The advert shows a father and his child. The attention of the advert is to
challenge the gender stereotypes because it shows a man who is taking care of the child. The context
of the advert is to show that the father is responsible for taking care of the child which is strange
because mother is usually take care of children. Most of the ads associated with childcare prefers
women so it is not common to see a man taking care of a child. The whole point of the is that the
company us trying to say that father is also responsible for taking care for the child not only mother.
Layout and Color:
Going through the image and analyzing the layout of its whole, there are three major part off the
image. The father, the child who is siting on his father shoulder and the text which is printed on the
top and in the button. The text is white written on a red different graphic shape center in the middle of
the advert. The image was taken in the living room from the light seems that it is around noon. There
is a blazer hanging in the stairs. There are stairs and a white cabinet in the background of the image
that is polarized. Moving towards the child looks excited and happy as well as his father is enjoying
the moment after getting back from work. There is no empty space the image, the child and his father
are surround by some furniture and the big text on the top and in the button. The big text on the top
connect the visual message of the ads to the picture where it says All new snug dry stops leak better so
the audience assume that the father is holding him without being afraid from any leak. That being said
the text in the button support the text on top where it says For proof, have dad put them to the

Comparing Picasso And Van Gogh
In this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting artists Pablo Picasso and Van Gogh, considering
their intentions with their artwork. Van Gogh and Picasso two of the most famous artists out there and
still are to this day. Uncountable books have been published and dedicated to them and their lives and
careers of being true artist. Their art has changed the way people view things and the world around
them.
Vincent van Gogh was one of many artists who self taught himself, who transformed the appearance
of Post Impressionism incessantly. His main focuses were his paintings, which he mostly painted in oil
mediums. In his time, he has produced lot of paintings, most of which were of cityscapes, figure and
landscape scenery. Unlike Pablo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The painting shows five women naked with flat figures, disintegrated planes and faces, inspired by
African masks. The compacted space the figures occupy appears to project forward in jagged shards; a
fiercely pointed slice of melon in the still life of fruit at the bottom of the composition teeters on an
impossibly upturned table top. In this painting, Picasso makes a radical departure from traditional
European painting by adaptation of Primitivism and abandonment of perspective in goodwill of a level
two dimensional picture of a plane.
On the other hand, Vincent van Gogh did not do any cubism work during his time as an artist,
however, had more of an interest in drawing. Pablo Picasso had an interest in drawing too, but unlike
his work, Vincent van Gogh s drawings are appreciated without the need for bright colours, drawings
such as his depiction of figures, light and landscape. Van Gogh drew using a lot of different media,
such as chalks, red pen and charcoal, although he often mixed mediums as well when it came to
drawing. He drew on not just paper, but a variety of paper types, and materials. However, Van Gogh s
methods of drawing are very different to Pablo Picasso s.
Pablo Picasso s way of drawing can be seen as very different and rather similar at the same time
compared to Vincent Van Gogh s method. Drawing allowed van Gogh to capture light and images
more quickly than with painting and

Essay on Aristotle
y does Plato believe that only Philosophers are fit to rule?
Rather than the practical pursuit we are accustomed to, for Plato, Politics is an intellectual faculty.
Governance by non philosophers is to be governed by opinions, beliefs and self interest; in contrast
the philosopher ruler will govern with virtue and justice with no hidden agenda. The philosopher is in
love, in love with learning, knowledge and truth. It is important to make a distinction here between the
acquisition of knowledge and the acquisition of truth, because knowledge is not necessarily the truth.
With the help of an allegory, Plato explains the sensible world of illusion and belief, the place where
most people reside. The philosopher has stepped outside this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The rulers will not own property, nor have money, they will be free of vices, excesses and desires.
They will have a Spartan existence (Plato was an admirer of Spartan culture). A ruler in Platos society
as described in his dialogue The Republic would be incorruptible, an absolute model of sensible world
perfection and justice. If one was to look no further into Platos utopian society you could be forgiven
for thinking that the philosopher rulers would be the ultimate answer for political duties and
government administration. A more detailed examination of policy and structure is necessary, prior to
arriving at a conclusion.
The structure in Platos society is tripartite and hierarchical, made up of the philosopher kings as rulers.
The auxiliaries who will be in a sort of military role (prospective rulers) and the artisans (workers)
who will produce all the consumable and non consumable goods deemed necessary for consumption
and the continued economic viability of the society.
The philosopher rulers duties as administrators in platos society or commonwealth are to legislate,
educate and to keep an ever watchful eye on the auxillaries and artisans, paying special attention to the
auxillaries, especially those that are considered fit to be future philosopher rulers. All auxiliaries will

Educational Cost Essay
Educational Costs and Logistics For out of state students, which is where I would fall under, the
yearly tuition for UW is $34,791 and the overall cost for a year is $49,986. Although this is much
more expensive than the in state tuition cost, the overall out of state cost to attend UW is not as
expensive as out of state costs for other schools or private schools. The cost for housing and food,
which is the equivalent of room and board, is an estimated $11,691 for students who live on campus
and $14,625 for those who live off campus. It is much more beneficial to live on campus that off of

The West Campus Apartments, 12 Month Apartments, and studios are very similar in the fact that they
all contain a private bathroom and a kitchen. The other options may have a private bathroom, but it is
not guaranteed. The prices for occupancy are the same within a housing area, except for apartments,
but differ when compared to other housing areas. The North Campus Residence Halls, West Campus
Residence Halls, and the West Campus Apartments all can be paid either quarterly or for the entire
year, but the 12 Month Apartments can only be paid monthly. Since there are so many housing options
for UW, I don t know where to start, but since the price difference between living in a single room and
a triple room is quite drastic, and I would rather not live in a triple occupancy dorm, I would probably
choose to live in a double occupancy or shared single. However, in the future, I would like to live in
an apartment or in a studio because having the usage of my own kitchen would be extremely
beneficial to me personally, since I enjoy cooking here and there and it would allow me to save some
money. The transportation options around campus at the University of Washington are walking,
biking, driving, public transit, shuttles, and carpooling. The most common transportation around

Harry Harlow
Compare and contrast research by Harry Harlow and Mary Ainsworth on understanding attachment
This essay is looking at the similarities of two researchers into attachment. The aim is to present their
work so as to compare and contrast the different approaches and techniques used by both Harry
Harlow and Mary Ainsworth. Even though they both had their different techniques in carrying out
their experiments, the conclusion of their findings was very similar and this essay will be showing
these findings by contrast. Both psychologists wanted to find out the underlying mechanics of
attachment of mothers and their young.

infants seem to cry a lot more and often seemed clingy or insecure (Discovering psychology,

We see the advantages of Ainsworh s study in wanting to find out about attachment in humans, by
studying humans. As well as showing more credibility into the mechanics of human attachment it also
provided Ainsworth with the opportunity to develop a highly influential procedure called the strange
situation because of the complexity of humans. This procedure consisted of a series of seven episodes
involving three participants, namely mother, baby and a stranger.

Renal Cell Carcinoma Of The Kidney Essay
The most common genitourinary cancers are, renal cell carcinoma of the kidney, transitional cell
carcinoma of the bladder, and adenocarcinoma of the prostat.
1 Renal cell carcinoma, the most common cancer of the kidney, accounts for approximately 90% of all
renal malignancies. About 65,000 cases of renal cell carcinoma are diagnosed each year in the U.S.
Despite advances in diagnosis, especially improved imaging techniques and the incidental diagnosis of
many tumors with imaging tests for unrelated complaints, about 20 30% of all patients are diagnosed
with metastatic disease. In addition, another 20% of patients undergoing nephrectomy will have a
relapse and develop metastatic RCC during follow up.
For patients with (m RCC), the prognosis is extremely poor, which makes the occurrence of (m RCC)
a serious problem for oncologic health care around the world.
The American Cancer Society s most recent estimates for kidney cancer in the United
States are for 2016:
About 62,700 new cases (39,650 in men and 23,050 in women) will occur.
About 14,240 people (9,240 men and 5,000 women) will die from this disease.
These numbers include all types of kidney and renal pelvis cancers.
Kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers in both men and women. Overall, the lifetime
risk for developing kidney cancer is about 1 in 63 (1.6%). This risk is higher in men than in women.
For reasons that are not totally clear, the rate of new kidney cancers has been rising since

The New York City s Government
New York City Government
New York City is the largest and one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been rediscovered
by Henry Hudson in 1609 while working for the Dutch East Indies Company. New Amsterdam, as it
was then known, was settled in 1614 by Dutch fur traders and became the most important port in
America. (Reed, 2011) The two rivers flowing on each side of Manhattan grant easy access to the
ocean, and Henry Hudson remarked that the harbor was the best natural harbor he had ever seen in the
world. For hundreds of years the city has been at the epicenter of world trade, and immigration to the
new world. Millions of immigrants have filled the streets of New York, from Europe, Africa, South
America, Asia, and elsewhere.
The city of New York has not always had as positive of a city government as the city s history may
suggest, however. It has had a mixed political system since its beginning, with its democratic
principles in question as corruption has taken hold of the city from time to time. Boss Tweed, a
notorious mayor from the 1860s, was so corrupt he was openly the mastermind of the city for thirty
years. His huge profit margins as a result of his control over the streetcar transportation system in that
time prevented the New York subway from being built until 1910. The Italian immigrants who came
from Sicily maintained traditional family ties, which soon became the American Mafia, which
controlled crime in the city from the 1920s until the

Comparing The Turtles In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
In John Steinbeck s novel The Grapes of Wrath he devoted a whole chapter about a turtle crossing the
road, but it was not just a filler, it had a deeper meaning to it. The chapter told of a turtle that had to
cross a highway and along the way it encounters a few hardships. The real reason Steinbeck added the
turtle was to have it symbolize the Joad s journey from Oklahoma to California. During the Joad s trip
to the west coast they definitely had their fair share of bumps in the road, just like the turtle
experienced while crossing the road. Despite all of the obstacles faced by both the Joad s and the

it was looking ahead ready to conquer any more challenges that would be thrown at it later. Just like
the turtle, the Joad s also managed achieve their objective by reaching California. For the Joad family

Block Booking System, Admission Price Discrimination, And...
The Code established trade practices consisting of the block booking system, admission price
discrimination, and the formation of clearance and zoning boards. Block booking was a practice in
which motion picture companies would sell their movies in blocks in a package deal to the exhibitors.
Even though exhibitors were given information about the films they were licensing like who starred in
it, what it was about, etc. the films were licensed without viewing the movie at the time of contracting
(Klein, 2000, p. 431), which meant that the movie studios could even profit off of bad productions as
these blocks were sold as a bulk all or nothing deal. This meant that if the exhibitors wanted one

The only viable way to make profits was to rely on the novelty of an early run of a new release to
attract audiences. The problem with such a reliance was that runs in theaters were regulated by the
Clearance and Zoning boards, which were set up as another practice under the Code in an attempt to
organize distribution of films in the nation. It arranged theaters in different regions on the marketing
pattern of zoning, clearance and run. The country was divided into thirty markets, compartmentalized
into zones, and classified by runs that would range from fourteen days to forty two days or more with
a potential of running for more than a year in large markets (Schuchman, Balio, 1994). This practice
gave the Board, which was dominated by the Big 5, the power to control which movie would play
when and where. This was specifically important as movies that were already viewed by the potential
audience, would not draw in the same patronage as it would in the first run. Consequently whoever got
the right to show the movie first would stand to make the most profit. It was very obvious that this
would be a potential source of discrimination against independent exhibitors as the Big 5 would favor
their own exhibition houses over that of independent exhibitors. With all three practices, it was clear
that the intention was to increase profits. Survival of businesses was very precarious as many

The Benefits of Reducing the Intake of Fast Food
Fast food has turned into a diet to millions of people across the world. This is because of the fact that
the food is readily available and provided in many business premises along the streets. As one of those
individuals who have been addicted to fast food consumption, I have realized the need to change the
behavior for the better. There are various benefits of reducing the intake of fast food, strategies and
challenges of changing my behavior which will be analyzed. There are three benefits I will enjoy by
reducing the fast food consumption. First, the change of the behavior will assist in improving my
immunity. This is because of the fact that keeping a healthy and balanced diet is an essential aspect
when it comes to strengthening the immunity. The second benefit of changing the behavior is that it
reduces the chances of suffering from health problems such as obesity. Consumption of fast food for a
long period of time exposes me to the risk of obesity. The third benefit of changing the behavior is that
it will lead to my being in good spirits. Fast food is known as one of contributing factors of the
number of depressed young people. This is due to the fact that fast food leads into the alteration of
hormonal system which is responsible of controlling mood and behavior swing. Eventually, it may
lead me to suffer from high blood pressure. By getting rid of the bad habit, I am likely to benefit from
reduced chances of suffering from such health issues. Moreover, there

The Radiation And Its Health Effects
After reviewing the Radiation and Its Health Effects section, review the health effects and expected
life lost graph. How many days or years does an average person lose due to radiation exposure versus
cigarette smoking? Were you surprised by the number of days or years lost to radiation versus
cigarette smoking? Why or why not? From the table, the life expectancy lost annually due to a typical
background radiation of 360 millirems is 18 days compared to 6 days for smoking a pack of cigarette
a day. I would have to say, the numbers are not surprising to me at all. I believe radiations from
nuclear materials are very potent facilitators of carcinogenesis and DNA damages in humans. Hence,
it is not surprising that radiation shortens the life expectancy humans than cigarette smoking.
However, the compounded effect of both annual background radiation from natural sources and
cigarettes, in addition to the carcinogenic effect of smoking would give a person that smokes a life
expectancy loss of over 24 days per year ( Radiation and its health, 2014). Summarize the section
How the NRC Protects You section. Be sure to describe what the NRC is doing to help reduce our
exposure to radiation. As more information becomes available to the public about the detrimental
effect of excessive radiation on human health, the United States government has entrusted the NRC

Use Of Forecasting Techniques For The Graduate Tuition...
This paper seeks to examine the use of forecasting techniques as it applies to the graduate tuition rate
at James Madison University. While several methods and techniques of forecasting could have been
used, I focused primarily on the Least Squares Regression technique, as it relates to projections, to
project the rates for the next ten years. Projected rates were slightly comparable to actual rates,
though, other techniques are not assumed to reduce the error of projected graduate tuition rates.
James Madison University is a comprehensive university in the Shenandoah Valley of Harrisonburg
Rockingham County, Virginia. Since it s start in 1954, the graduate school has focused its efforts on
the education of its students at a reasonable cost. Although tuition has risen over the years, it can be
assumed that this is possibly due to the rising costs of operation. In recent years, 2009 2014, the cost
has increased by 34% ($305 to $410) for in state students. Similarly, there has been an increase in out
of state tuition by more than 20% ($890 $1095) since 2009. Due to the rate increases over the past five
years, I project that the cost will continue to rise over the years.
The aim of our forecasting is to provide information about possible future changes in tuition rates. In
general, the three approaches to forecasting, projection, prediction, and conjecture, all seek to produce
information about future trends we expect to examine in society; however, they do so in various

Comparing Led Zeppelin s Stairway To Heaven
Led Zeppelin s Stairway to Heaven verdict was gold for the members of the iconic rock band. The
verdict went in their favor, and against Spirit, the group whose instrumental song, Taurus, they were
accused of plagiarizing in creating their mega million selling hit song. Though a chromatic descending

on the fact that the two songs, to their ears, had more differences than similarities between them,
according to Entertainment Weekly.
The decision that Led Zeppelin did not plagiarized the song by Spirit, written by the band s late

  • 2. The Common Raccoon ( P. Lotor The common raccoon (P. lotor) has been said to be one of the most widespread urban mammalian carnivores. Characterised by its fox like face, bushy striped tail, and unmistakable mask of dark patches around their eyes, the growing population of urban raccoons has become somewhat of an epidemic. These small creatures are known for their relatively high intellect, enabling them to access human resources. Raccoons are omnivores, and have been consistently observed to eat virtually anything. Additionally, even though raccoons are technically both primary consumers and secondary consumers, they are best described as being scavengers. Raccoons have very little social structure relatively; they are known as solitary animals, most likely stemming from their nocturnal behaviors. Quite often, they will be found traveling as either a family (until the young reach adolescence, at which time they leave), or an individual. They are notorious carriers of disease, can outcompete native species, and can be quite aggressive when confronted by humans. For these reasons and more, the urban raccoon is considered a pest, and in many areas there have been countless efforts to control their populations (Gehrt, S. D., et. al., 2010, Pg. 35 47). This paper will propose actions that would need to be taken in order to deter raccoons from pursuing human waste as a food source in the effort of controlling their population. Due to the raccoon s opportunistic nature, overtime the species have found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Rise Of The Welfare State The Rise of the Welfare State In America today, just over ten million people are on unemployment insurance, one hundred and ten million people are on welfare, and the total government spending annually is around one hundred and thirty billion dollars (Welfare Statistics). The welfare state is a political system based on the proposition that the government has the individual responsibility to ensure that the minimum standard of living is met for all citizens. Specifically, in the matters of health care, public education, employment, and social security, the welfare state assumes all responsibility. According to John Rawls, In a just society the liberties of equal citizenship are taken as settled; the rights secured by justice are not subject to political bargaining or to the calculus of social interests. The only thing that permits us to acquiesce in an erroneous theory is the lack of a better one; analogously, an injustice is tolerable only when it is necessary to avoid an even greater injustice (Rawls). In the 1840s, Otto Von Bismarck, the first Chancellor of Germany, was the father of the modern welfare state. He built the program to win over the support of the working middle class in Germany and ultimately reduce the outflow of immigrants to the U.S., where welfare did not exist (Welfare State). In the United States, not all companies provided workers with benefits, thus the workers appealed to the government, giving rise to the first form of welfare capitalism. ... • 4. Speech For Graduation Speech Graduation Speech What is the secret to success? Many people think that you can rely on only on yourself to be accomplished in this life time. However, there are many strategies to utilize on the road to success and the concept of a self made man has a common misconception. Arnold Schwarzenegger shattered this idea of the self made man as he presented his speech to the graduating class of Houston University in the spring of 2017. The crowd was powerfully moved by the words that flowed from Arnold s mouth. Arnold successfully establishes credibility, demonstrates emotion, and uses logic to motivate this graduating class. Throughout this speech Arnolds exceeds in these three categories tremendously. The accomplished actor, body builder, and the former governor of California sheds just a little bit of light from his ray of success to the graduating class of Houston University. Arnold thanks everybody from the president of the university down to the family and parents that are in attendance in the crowd. Arnold talks about how if you reflect on his life and every accomplishment he has under his belt it would be easy to assume that he did it alone. Arnold starts his speech by talking about his dreams. Arnold talks about where his journey began. It all started when he was younger relaxing at the beach and he met a lifeguard who introduced him to body building. At this moment, his life changed forever he dedicated his life to the art of body building. This dream of being the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Six Key Principles Of Operation Anaconda The mission command system is expressed as the placement of individuals within a unit conducting operations with a specific set of procedures and principles in place to optimize the use of its equipment. What does it mean to recognize or comprehend the art of Command and the science of Control? There are six key principles of mission command in developing a cohesive team that support all aspects of a mission. The following essay will discuss these principles and examine examples of how the famous Operation Anaconda both endured victories and inadequacies. Introduction What might have been the setback we previously faced in making decisive, clear or sound effective decisions? Was it a defect in how Commanders and Leaders led units or troops, or perhaps the philosophy in which we chose to command and control every aspect of the battlefield? What does it mean to recognize or comprehend the art of Command and the science of Control? The six principles of mission command are key in developing a cohesive team that will support all aspects of the mission. Asking why is now encouraged when it pertains to certain situations or missions. Understanding the purpose of why a course of action or desired outcome is necessary, leads to mission success and a cohesive unit with thinking leaders. Thinking clearly usually isn t an issue for most leaders, but position an individual in a situation of extreme stress or complexity, then there might be a reason to be concerned. Through ... • 7. Anna Deavere Play Analysis In both the performances of Bill Irwin and Anna Deavere Smith, what theatre is and how it can be effectively used is questioned and analyzed. At it s core, theatre is essentially a presentation given for it s dramatic and moving qualities. Looking first to Bill Irwin, it is easily apparent within a few minutes of viewing his play that it is a comedy. Throughout the performance the narrator reads the script and all of its contextual cues meant only for the actor and for the stage setup. Bill can be seen practically sprinting throughout the play as he goes on and off stage for separate numbers. He even makes a point of changing outfits on stage. I believe by doing this, besides simply for comedic purposes, the audience is forced to truly understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being part of the United States, It is the inherent right and responsibility of each citizen to elect new leaders from term to term. It is the ideal goal of these elections to choose someone who can be an effective ambassador for the eyes and ears of each citizen both domestically and abroad. Carly Fiorina served as chairwoman and CEO of Hewlett Packard from 1999 to 2005 where she had a profound positive impact on the company in both its structure and net worth. During the six years Fiorina led HP, the United States suffered from a great recession and the Dotcom Boom caused most major technology companies stock to drop. Despite the economic crisis, Fiorina managed to not only keep the company afloat, but doubled its revenues from forty two billion to eighty six billion. Since the United States deficit is up to eighteen trillion dollars, electing a conservative economist like Carly Fiorina seems to be the most practical option for recovery. Fiorina is well versed in dealing with cost effective issues that has given her the tools necessary to rebuild the country s budget crisis. In addition, she worked her way up to become president of Lucent Technologies and was named The Most Powerful Woman in American Business after leading Lucent to become the most successful IPO in history. The answer to reform this country s economy is to treat it like a business. Among all the politicians that advocate reform, Fiorina possesses the business acumen we need in our President. By zero based budgeting, the economy will have the outcome we have all been hoping for. Lastly, Fiorina is fluent in making tough calls during tough times from being a CEO in a failing economy. She is notorious for laying off thirty thousand workers at HP during 2001. These were the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Personal Experience Is The World Can Not Be Fully... Personal experience is a gateway to recollection, attitudes, and knowledge. By trying different ice cream flavors an individual can establish a preferred flavor, by playing in the outdoors an individual can decipher his or her ideal season, and by looking at an array of colors an individual can determine a favorite hue. Without personal experience, an individual inherently lacks a certain depth of knowledge about the qualitative components of experience, and can only hold understandings based upon physical components. In Epiphenomenal Qualia, Frank Jackson asserts that physicalism is false because the world cannot be fully described based solely upon physical descriptions. Jackson proposes a thought experiment known as the Knowledge Argument that seeks to clarify the distinction between formal knowledge and qualitative experience. Supporters of physicalism would contend that the qualia is only relevant to ability, and formal understanding is the only significant component to knowledge. However, Jackson s thought experiment successfully identifies an error in physicalism by demonstrating that ability teaches a type of knowledge that cannot be taught through purely physical terminology, which therefore affirms that physicalism proposes ideas that are narrow to be entirely valid. Foremost, it is prudent to emphasize the difficulty in clearly defining physicalism. The general idea is that science can tell us everything about the world. Specifically, physicalism asserts that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the present essay, we have seen how linguistic ethnographers Blommaert and Borba conceptualize ethnographic research in their two works, what function language had in the observed, situated interactions and how it was approached to further investigate larger frameworks. Besides the more technical aspects, we have seen that in both accounts, language plays a crucial role in the reproduction of inequality and some sociologic and ethnographic concepts, when applied to observation of linguistic forms, can help to grasp the larger structures regimenting institutional practices. 2 Source : http://www.Colorado.EDU/English/ENGL2012Klages/1997foucault.html Student number: 1568114 14 Overall, the two accounts are not incompatible, even if they ... • 11. Science And Science In John Wesson s The Science Of Soccer Science is everywhere. John Wesson has proved that to many through his famous book, The Science of Soccer. This book links both soccer and science together. Throughout this story the simple idea of soccer will turn into a more complex version of science. Wesson teaches the readers about how something so simple, like a ball bouncing, can relate to the more in depth laws of physics. While reading this book one can learn what soccer really is, how science is described, and how science and soccer are related. A common question in many young minds is, What is soccer? . In the words of Wesson, Soccer s superiority derives from two sources, variety and continuity. At each point in the game the players are faced with a wide range of options take the ball past the opponent on this side or that, to pass short or long, low or high, to shoot or to lay the ball off and to whom (Wesson 85). Soccer is a physical and mental sport. It is played with your feet, however, it is the mind that does most of the hard work. It is also a team sport. It consists of dribbling, passing, kicking, and much more. Sometimes there will be a bounce that must be trapped, and others there will be moves needed to blow by a defender. The game varies. For instance, the book also reads, The ball is kicked in a variety of ways according to the circumstances. For a slow accurate pass the ball is pushed with the flat inside face of the foot. For a hard shot the toes are dipped and the ball is struck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. My Experience At The Multicultural Dinners Growing up in a small mountain town there wasn t very much diversity to be spoken of. However, thanks to my parents, I was always encouraged and raised to never judge people who may seem different from myself because no matter the race, religion, gender or appearance, we are all the same on the inside. My first memorable experience that opened my eyes to the diversity that this world contains was in high school during a special event called the multi cultural dinner. The dinner consisted of different families that brought food, danced cultural dances, brought cultural costumes, spoke about their religion and more all based on their country and culture. I was blown away at all of the different things that go into each culture, or religion. I quickly discovered that I loved learning about cultures that were very different from mine. The more obscure the culture, the more I wanted to learn. From the connections I made and the people that I met at the Multicultural dinners, I was able to travel to Spain for a month the summer after high school. I can truly say that is an experience that I will never forget. I not only had to improve my Spanish, because my language was no longer the majority but the minority. I also had to learn a lot about the etiquette of the spanish culture, try different foods and much more. This all caused me to step outside of my comfort zone but also helped me to grow as person and to cultivate friendships and experiences that will last me a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Subsidies In The Market Free markets are very effective in determining an equilibrium in the market that benefits everyone. Nevertheless free markets do not always reach optimal output levels due to external market forces such as demographic factors or technological changes. The fact that a free market does not reaches optimal output is called market failure and leads to welfare loss (also called deadweight loss). In order to avoid market failure, government intervention, such as subsidies, is needed. Adam Smith s Wealth Of Nations Thuy Hua PHIL 225 First Exegetical/Critical Paper Professor Michael Schleeter October 5, 2015 Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations For Smith, the value of all commodities that the market is supposed to promote is not come from the money price, but come from the amount of labor required to purchase them because nobody wants to purchase a good that is created with less effort. Therefore, the real value that the market needs to promote is the labor that is invested in the product. For example, in real life diamond or gold is very expensive but people do not really need them because without them, people still alive. On the other hand, water or food is not as expensive as diamond or gold, but they are very necessary in real life because we cannot survive without water and foods. According to Smith, to understand the difference from these prices, we can look at the amount of labor needed to bring these products to market. The money price of a particular community may fluctuate from a variety of reasons, but the amount of labor needed to purchase it remains constant. To promote that value, we should improve the division of labor, which is the greatest improvement in the productive power of labor. Division of labor is always has the important role in increasing productivity exponentially of a company. For Smith, division of labor is very important even in producing a very simple product because it creates specialized knowledge of a particular trade or task that makes the employees get ... Van Gogh and Picasso two of the most famous artists out there and still are to this day. Uncountable books have been published and dedicated to them and their lives and careers of being true artist. Their art has changed the way people view things and the world around them. Vincent van Gogh was one of many artists who self taught himself, who transformed the appearance of Post Impressionism incessantly. In this painting, Picasso makes a radical departure from traditional European painting by adaptation of Primitivism and abandonment of perspective in goodwill of a level two dimensional picture of a plane. On the other hand, Vincent van Gogh did not do any cubism work during his time as an artist, however, had more of an interest in drawing. Pablo Picasso had an interest in drawing too, but unlike his work, Vincent van Gogh s drawings are appreciated without the need for bright colours, drawings such as his depiction of figures, light and landscape. Van Gogh drew using a lot of different media, such as chalks, red pen and charcoal, although he often mixed mediums as well when it came to drawing. He drew on not just paper, but a variety of paper types, and materials. However, Van Gogh s methods of drawing are very different to Pablo Picasso s. It arranged theaters in different regions on the marketing pattern of zoning, clearance and run. The country was divided into thirty markets, compartmentalized into zones, and classified by runs that would range from fourteen days to forty two days or more with a potential of running for more than a year in large markets (Schuchman, Balio, 1994). This practice gave the Board, which was dominated by the Big 5, the power to control which movie would play when and where. • 35. The Radiation And Its Health Effects After reviewing the Radiation and Its Health Effects section, review the health effects and expected life lost graph. How many days or years does an average person lose due to radiation exposure versus cigarette smoking? Were you surprised by the number of days or years lost to radiation versus cigarette smoking? Why or why not? From the table, the life expectancy lost annually due to a typical background radiation of 360 millirems is 18 days compared to 6 days for smoking a pack of cigarette a day. I would have to say, the numbers are not surprising to me at all. I believe radiations from nuclear materials are very potent facilitators of carcinogenesis and DNA damages in humans. Hence, it is not surprising that radiation shortens the life expectancy humans than cigarette smoking. However, the compounded effect of both annual background radiation from natural sources and cigarettes, in addition to the carcinogenic effect of smoking would give a person that smokes a life expectancy loss of over 24 days per year ( Radiation and its health, 2014). Summarize the section How the NRC Protects You section. Be sure to describe what the NRC is doing to help reduce our exposure to radiation. As more information becomes available to the public about the detrimental effect of excessive radiation on human health, the United States government has entrusted the NRC with protecting of the public from exposure to nuclear products. To this end, the NRC is constantly putting out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Use Of Forecasting Techniques For The Graduate Tuition... This paper seeks to examine the use of forecasting techniques as it applies to the graduate tuition rate at James Madison University. While several methods and techniques of forecasting could have been used, I focused primarily on the Least Squares Regression technique, as it relates to projections, to project the rates for the next ten years. Projected rates were slightly comparable to actual rates, though, other techniques are not assumed to reduce the error of projected graduate tuition rates. James Madison University is a comprehensive university in the Shenandoah Valley of Harrisonburg Rockingham County, Virginia. Since it s start in 1954, the graduate school has focused its efforts on the education of its students at a reasonable cost. Although tuition has risen over the years, it can be assumed that this is possibly due to the rising costs of operation. In recent years, 2009 2014, the cost has increased by 34% ($305 to $410) for in state students. Similarly, there has been an increase in out of state tuition by more than 20% ($890 $1095) since 2009. Due to the rate increases over the past five years, I project that the cost will continue to rise over the years. The aim of our forecasting is to provide information about possible future changes in tuition rates. In general, the three approaches to forecasting, projection, prediction, and conjecture, all seek to produce information about future trends we expect to examine in society; however, they do so in various ... As the previously described diversification of the workforce reaches levels consistent with the required knowledge, experience, which it will in the near future, a broader range of candidates will be available; naturally resulting in many organizations being then able to form a board of directors representative of the diversified potential members. • 42. Comparing Led Zeppelin s Stairway To Heaven Led Zeppelin s Stairway to Heaven verdict was gold for the members of the iconic rock band. The verdict went in their favor, and against Spirit, the group whose instrumental song, Taurus, they were accused of plagiarizing in creating their mega million selling hit song. Though a chromatic descending arpeggiated scale that skips the E note is featured in both songs, making a part of Stairway to Heaven sound similar to a part of Taurus, the jury panel appeared to base its unanimous decision on Thursday on the fact that the two songs, to their ears, had more differences than similarities between them, according to Entertainment Weekly. The decision that Led Zeppelin did not plagiarized the song by Spirit, written by the band s late guitarist and songwriter, Randy Wolfe, was reached by a jury in a federal court room in Los Angeles after a trial that lasted a week. Wolfe passed away in 1997. The case was brought against Led Zeppelin by Michael Skidmore, a trustee of the estate of Wolfe. Wolfe s estate was asking for approximately $40 million in damages, as well as a songwriting credit for Wolfe and a share of future royalties made by Zeppelin s Stairway to Heaven. ...
