In 1911, Polish British novelist Joseph Conrad composed Under Western Eyes.
Conrad is commonly regarded as one of the greatest novelist ever to write in the
English language due in large part to his stylistic choices, philosophical insights, and
general prose proficiency. Under Western Eyes is a voluminous text with many
philosophical undertones, a complex plot, and complicated narrative structure. The
protagonist of the story, Kirylo Sidorovich Razumov, experiences much turmoil due
to his betrayal of a fellow student and revolutionarynamed Victor Haldin, and finds
his entire existence convoluted new social ties, new emotions, and an inner moral
conflict. The question the novel raises has to do with Razumov s changed
circumstances and how these affect his character. Although it is tempting to see him
as a transformed character, that interpretation is not entirely persuasive. I would
suggest that Razumov is, from beginning to end, marked by his inveterate
independent nature as an incorrigible loner.
In the beginning of the novel Razumov s character is introduced. He leads a
solitary life, having no family, friends or real purpose and is therefore independent.
These characteristics are relayed by the narrator, who has read Razumov s diary
and thus is able to speak with some authority about Razumov s qualities as a person.

Growing up we always have been compelled to question. Why is the sky blue?
Why does the earth spin? What is the point of life? In fact, it could be a possibility
that even a majority of the words we expel from our mouths as a kid is why? . Yet,
out of the thousands of questions that have ever entered our brain, a rare one to
ponder is: how does one view art? One may say that art is subjective, that viewers
take away what they want from it. However, another may say another completely
different opinion; for instance, John Berger, a famous art critic, believed art could
only be viewed in the context of its own history, otherwise the painting would
become mystified (Berger 144). In a way, Berger expects everyone to mystify the
art work they view unless they truly see in the specific way he believes is right.
Keeping this in mind, I attempted to view art differently than I ever have before,
with a clear mind, questions to engage in conversation with the artwork, and a
yearning for the history of it s past at the ninth annual Art Prize.
When I walked into the Art Prize exhibition, I tried to view art the way Berger
would want me to, clear minded and unaware of the distractions the setting
presented. I did a walk through of all the artwork, but, I kept on getting pulled back
to this one piece called Il Ventriloquo, by Aron Demetz (Demetz). It was a statue of
a presumably caucasian man from his torso up, in a pale blue, long sleeve t shirt,
with short brown hair, holding his right arm up; which turned into a puppet, as if
he had his hand inside of the puppet. The puppet was a little boy and his face was
turned toward the man, his eyes holding man s gaze. At first I had no idea how to
approach it, I didn t know how to invite it into conversation, and even if I did, how
would I know I was asking the right kind of questions? Pushing those doubts aside, I
decided to jump right in and start with reading the exhibit label next to the art.
Unfortunately it did not help much, it mostly talked about the artist s background and
how he came to be a sculpture.
I studied the sculpture for a while, the way the arm flowed directly into the puppet,

Introduction
Do you believe that there is life on other planets? Better yet, do you believe that there
is another planet that looks like earth? As far as I can remember, there has always
been the question of is there life in outer space? I remember being in grade school
wondering if there were humans or aliens on other planets and if they were trying to

The science community is getting very close to discovering earth like planets and
extraterrestrial life in outer space. This is considered a valued assumption among
many researchers and astronomers. To date, they have actually discovered more than
800 of these exoplanets amongst the billions and billions of stars in our galaxy. The
more planets found like HD40307g, the more they resemble earth with earth like
characteristics (the spinning on its axis, having a night and a day, and orbiting in the
habitable zone). Astronomers are also finding them closer to our solar system.
Another assumption of these findings are that humans are developing and advancing
technology to communicate, navigate, and live in outer space in the near future.

Abstract Wireless sensor networks have many advantages over traditional wired
sensing technology, due to their embedded construction. This technology has been
used in agricultural scenario because of the need for enhancing precision, quality and
quantity in farming. In this paper, we developed a prototype for the system which
utilized a real time wireless sensornetwork to communicate wirelessly to a pest
management system that measures the various parameters like air temperature, air
humidity and leaf wetness duration in an Apple and Picrorhiza Kurroa (Kutki)
farm for the prediction of disease, apple scab in apple and powdery mildew in
Kutki and for this purpose an application software has been developed to derive a
relation among these parameters and Infection Index to find out the optimum
condition for best growth of crop. The information is linked to server to alert
farmers regarding the environmental changes and infection index so that the
necessary precaution may be taken before disease occurs. The major goal is to reduce
several unnecessary sprays and apply only when the crop has highest risk of a

philosophers ever. In Calculus, Eudoxus is known for advancing Antiphon s ideas on
the method of exhaustion. The method of exhaustion is very important to calculus
because one of the fundamental themes of calculus is sending variables (or
whatever it happens to be) to infinity, which is a branch of the method of
exhaustion. This is known as taking the limit. Eudoxus used the method of
exhaustion to calculate volume and area. One example of this is his work with the
area of a circle. At the time they hadn t established this yet. If you didn t know the

Greek army. From lines 22 to 54, Nestor further applies a previous speech by
Agamemnon. The condition of the Greek army is stressed, as the war is not going

this importance. This passage is conveyed with a somber tone to get across the
point that what the Greeks and Trojans were faced with was in fact an important

Dionysos
I chose to compare and contrast two works of art that featured the god Dionysos.
Dionysos was a god of celebration and wine, promoting both the intoxicating power
of wine and its social benefits for bringing people together. He was an advocate of
peace and a promoter of peaceful civilization. Both The Hope Dionysos and the
Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus represent why Dionysos was such
an important and celebrated figurein mythology, which is why I chose to analyze
two works of art that centered on him. My first impression of each piece was of
Dionysos as a peaceful, benevolent and joyful figure. I was struck by the calm
peacefulness he embodied in The Hope Dionysos and the happiness he shared on the
Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus. Though there are many
elements to compare and contrast, my analysis will show that both pieces are
tributes and representations of Dionysos meaning and purpose in Roman art. The
Hope Dionysos, displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Greek and Roman
Art gallery, depicts Dionysos standing and leaning with one arm on a smaller female
figure that is believed to Spes, the personification of hope. He is shown without his

Introduction
Last year, I failed two accounting courses which were 400 levels. I tried to retake
one of the courses because my dad was pressuring me so hard that I should be able
to understand much better but I still could not understand the concepts and I found
it really hard to catch up with the class. Since this class was a prerequisite class for
my major, I was very frustrated. I was getting so much stress from my dad and the
course that I had to retake. However, several days before I had to take a midterm, I
was overwhelmed and I was not ready to take an exam. I decided to withdraw from a
course because there was no way that I could handle 400 level accounting courses.
Since I failed two accounting courses before, I got an academic probation due to
low grades. My dad thought that I was still retaking one of the accounting courses.
When I told him that I withdrew from a course, he was very mad because I did not
discuss this issue with him. I did not know why I had to discuss with him while I
was very stressed out. It was a tough decision for me to withdraw from a course. I
had to discuss with him about changing my major since I was in my last year.
Preparation Stage
The purpose of this stage is to help me use the information to prepare what can be
my options if the negotiation goes well or does not go well. Also, preparation stage
also helps me to guess what the other party s options can be and try to negotiate much
better.
