The dominant theme of Silent Spring by Rachel Carson is the powerful and detrimental impact
humans have on the natural world. Carson s main argument is that pesticides have harmful effects
on the environment and lead to a loss of biodiversity and quality of life. Carson uses the pesticide
DDT throughout the book as she examines the effects of pesticides throughout the United States.
Though the majority of the book is focused on the effects of pesticides on our ecosystem
processes, she also touches on cases of pesticidepoisoning, cancer, and other diseases caused by
DDTand other chemicals that affect humans directly.
In the first few chapters she describes town where living things and the environment coexist in
peace but how, shortly after, the town is silent and the birds have stopped singing (Carson 13).

There has been a notable amount of conversation on the internet on the rebirth of the natural hair
movement. Cherise Luter (2014) states that despite afros and the natural hair movement not being
a new concept (i.e. the Black Power Movement), it has gone under what she calls a refreshing
change . Furthermore, what used to be I m black and I m proud , has been replaced with I m me
and I m proud (Luter 2016). So, what is the natural hairmovement? It is defined as a movement
where black women decide to not conform to the social norms of chemically altering their hair and
wearing it in its natural, kinky, or curled state (Joignot 2015). The movement could also be
considered as an outlet for black women to display their racial and cultural pride or to articulate
their political position (Brown 2014:297). However, simply the terminology movement is
something that should be shocking to many. There is a great amount of historical context behind
the continuous influence Eurocentric beauty ideals have had on black women for centuries.

Cabaret was pulled from the pages of The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood and later on
adapted into a twelve Tony award winning Broadway musical in 1966. Later on, after Cabaret

From Fig.2, it shows that the inner surface temperature against time and tile thickness. On the right
hand side, it is shown that the Forward and the Dufort Frankel method are very unstable. Both
methods had an infinite inner surface temperature at start, which is not ideal. For Backward and
Crank Nicolson methods, both of them had a smooth curve and did not have much fluctuation.
On the left hand side, it shows the temperature at the inner surface against time. Forward and
Dufort Frankel deviated very soon after the tile get heated. This time, the Backward method moved
away from the starting temperature which is a sign of unstable. Therefore, Crank Nicolson was
selected to be the most appropriate method to solve this problem.

The whole ordeal was caught on video by other detectives that were investing human trafficking
nearby, whom stepped in to get help to the beaten men (Lynch, 2013) . These three particular
incidents appear to be nothing out of the ordinary these days for police departments across the
country, all of this are very inappropriate and all different forms of misconduct unethical to say
the least. The officers of time past were respectful and treated people the way that they should
fair, innocent until proven guilty and there were not as many officers that were being called out
for misconduct. This is partly due to the swing in society but also the capabilities of cell phones,
on board cameras and the ability to share just as quick as you can record, technology surely has not
been friendly to the police in America. The technology meant to protect the police is now their

Debriefing the interview responses from our county AIG coordinators proved to be enlightening.
There were many points of commonality between their evaluation of our gifted program, and my
own personal evaluation, but there are also points of contradiction. One particular point I agree
with is that a major strength of our gifted program is that our district is diligently working to
improve the program, within our capabilities. We are of course, limited by financial resources and

The only way to have an alternate aptitude test administered in DCS is to seek private testing
with an educational psychologist, to the tune of approximately $1,000. This puts a large
majority of the underrepresented at a distinct disadvantage as well. Not to mention, the irony!

and genuinely needs to make many more to address the weaknesses of our AIG program. We

The four stages of group development are forming, storming, norming, and performing. None of
the stages have to go in a particular order. Forming is the first stage where people join together
for a reason. Our group formed because this class put us together, which was mainly based on the
need to fulfill the goal of passing Small Group Communication and doing a service project
together. This happened when we filled out the sheets about our skills and whom we would and

The two theorists i ve decided to compare and contrast are Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim.
Firstly i ll compare them to one another. From all the readings I did and past education on these
individuals I found they have a lot of the same views in regards to religion. Both Emlie Durkheim
and Karl Marx believe that religion is a projection of mans hopes and desires. They both also
agree that religion plays a powerful role in influencing the members of a society. While coming
up with these theories they were both more concerned with the human rather than the religion.
Both of them did not believe in a god or gods. It s been said that Marx saw god as idealization of
human nature while Durkheim believed the idea of a god was society itself. They were not
religious people so it s interesting that they did have some of the same views and theories regarding

This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis on the performance and risk indicators of two
mutual fund managers. After transforming the returns of the mutual funds into the same data scale
with the other variables, we employ a statistically rigorous factor analysis procedure to identify the
risk adjusted performance of each mutual fund. Then, we apply Chow(1960) tests to investigate
possible investment strategy similarities and potential structural breakpoints.
2.Modelling and Analysis The first model used to evaluate risk adjusted fund performance was
based on the work by Sharpe Lintner Treynor Mossin on the Capital Asset Pricing Model.
Using OLS we estimate: Based on these results we could argue that the mutual funds do not
follow the market closely, but both Managers over perform the index. Furthermore, in order to test
whether or not we have viable explanatory coefficients, a t testing procedure was followed(Table
2). Using a 5% significance level, all coefficients except the market beta of Mutual Fund 1 are
statistically significant. The low R2 in both mutual funds implies that their returns are less well
