Summary Of Letting Go By Atul Gawande
Letting Go by Atul Gawande provides an intriguing perspective on people s stubborn expectations
from the healthcare system. What should medicine do when it can t save your life? Most
everyone seems to believe they should fight to the bitter end, until they can t possibly have
anymore tubes coming out of them or medications going in. Gawande suggests that state of being
is no longer living, so he raises the question of why people do it to themselves or their families.
Gawande also provides the benefits of hospice care such as discontinuing medications. When
patients stop fighting and start accepting the time they have, they gain more. This concept made
me wonder about myself and what types of treatment I ll choose for myself one day. Will I

Muscle Contraction Lab Report
Effects of Varying Lengths of Rana Pipiens Gastrocnemius on Tetanic Contraction
Joshua Porter, Sofia Tuttle, Yoniko Washington
TA: Ryan Hoffman
Abstract Muscles play an essential role in vertebrate life from maintaining posture and locomotion
to controlling the heart. Better understanding them is essential to better understanding life
processes. (2) In this experiment, the effects of muscle length on the tetanic contraction tension of
the gastrocnemius muscle of a rana pipiens were observed. It was hypothesized that the highest
tension would be observed at the equilibrium length as observed in peer reviewed sources. (3,4,5)
The independent variable was the length of the muscle and the dependent variable was the muscle
tension. This experiment was done on one rana pipiens. The tetanic muscle contraction was
observed by stimulating it with a current of 1.5 amps at a frequency 20 hz at various muscle
lengths. The active, passive, and total forces were then plotted against the length of ... Show more

To determine the current at which stimulation was maximal, the stimulator was set to 0 Amps
and the muscle was stimulated. Then the current was increased by 0.1 Amps and the muscle
and force chart were observed. This was repeated until the contraction force stopped increasing,
which in this case was at 1.5 Amps. Then the tetanus frequency was determined. First the current
was set to 1.5 Amps. Then, in the VI, the frequency was adjusted to 0 Hz, and the muscle
stimulated. The frequency is set by the Pulse and Period inputs, which signify the number of
pulses and the length of each pulse. So the frequency was increased accordingly and the results of
muscle stimulation were observed. The frequency was tested at 5 Hz (pulse = 5, period = 200), 10
Hz (pulse = 10, period = 100), and 20 Hz (pulse = 20, period = 200). At 20 Hz tetanus was
observed, so that was the frequency value used in

Traction Alopecia In Children
Children are just as susceptible to traction alopecia as adults are. The causes of traction alopecia
in children are similar to grown ups. Hairstyles such as pigtails, cornrows and braiding the hair
can cause hair loss in kids. When a child s hair is repeatedly styled tightly, over a period of time hair
follicles become damaged and incapable of producing healthy hairs. The hair folliclemay become so
damaged that it stops producing hairs altogether. Hair loss occurs in the areas of the scalp that are
pulled the most, usually at the front hair line, the nape of the neck and crown.
Traction alopecia in children can be treated in a similar fashion to the way it is treated in adults. In
fact children have a much better chance of regrowing hair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Getting into the habit of gently massaging the child s scalp will speed up their hair regrowth. It is
best to use a lubricating agent such as oil to eliminate any friction which may cause further
damage to the scalp or hair follicles. Bhringaraj oil or virgin coconut oil make excellent massage
oils for the scalp and can also double up as deep conditioning hair treatments.
Following these rules will ensure more hair doesn t fall out because of the excessive force applied
to the hair follicles and that further harm isn t caused to the follicles by the use of inappropriate hair
products. Stick with gentle products and stimulate hair growth by increasing scalp circulation
through regular massages to give the hair follicles a chance to heal themselves and start producing

Hypocrisy In Voltaire s Candide
Candide, with his innocent optimism, taught the reader that there isn t always a silver lining;
Irene Redfield proved that one s judgement and actions don t always go hand in hand; Bob Hicok
illustrated that, despite all of one s observations, hope can still be found. These lessons were
brought to us, for the most part, through observations which these narrators had seen and
experienced. The lessons found in these texts also show the hypocrisy which these characters have,
despite their observations and experiences, still permeates their beliefs and morals. To begin, it
would be best to know what observationentails: the term observation means the action or process
of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information or, in fewer words,
gaining knowledge through watching the world around us. The use of such vivid imagery and
observation has long been a powerful weapon in the arsenal of great writers, like Stephen King and
J.K. Rowling, and has brought about multiple lessons and teachings for people throughout the ages.
The narrator s observations in Voltaire s Candide, or Optimism, Larson s Passing and Hicok s Go
Greyhound allows them to realize their own hypocrisy and disconnect between their actions
/experiences and beliefs.
Voltaire s use of imagery and satire in Candide, or Optimism allows the reader to contemplate how
Candide has such an optimistic attitude in the face of the trials and tribulations which he and his
friends endured.

William Shakespeare s As You Like It As a Study of Perception and Misperception
The concepts of perception and misperception are common themes in many of Shakespeare s plays
and can be found in his comedies, tragedies and histories alike. Shakespeare explores these often
parallel elements through several different forms in his work, such as disguise, mistaken identity
and blindness, and events caused by these can lead to amusing, confusing or sometimes tragic
consequences, depending on the nature of the plays themselves.
The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines perception as the ability to see, hear or become aware of
something through the senses, a way of regarding, understanding or ... Show more content on

The forest of Arden is a particular example of how the perception of the same thing can vary
greatly between different people in As You Like Itand can change completely in the mind of one
person. The forest is the place to which Rosalind s father, Duke Senior, is banished, and to which
Rosalind and Celia flee following the wrath of Celia s father, Duke Frederick. Indeed, it is the
setting for much of the action in the play and comes to mean several things to several characters.
The forest represents nature in the standard opposition between that and civilisation, which is
represented by the other setting in the play, the court. Arden is perceived by characters such as
Duke Senior and his followers as an idyllic and uncorrupted place, whereas the civilised world is
seen as irrationally cruel and ruined by humankind. The Duke expresses this with his speech
eulogising the forest, hath not old custom made this life more sweet than that of painted pomp? Are
not these woods more free from peril than the envious court?…this our life, exempt from
public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books

Examples Of Divine Law In Antigone
The emergence of world literature from antiquity to modern times is mostly dominated by the
instrument of divine law, and therefore expresses an in depth understanding of the various kinds of
intellectual, historical, social and cultural backgrounds that are relevant across Europe, Asia, Africa,
North and South America. At the turn of the 4th century BC, Divine law is derived as any law that
theoretically comes directly from the will of Godin comparison to man made law. The perception of
natural law, is distinctly independent of human beings, whereas divine law is based on the notion
that rely on human narrators and more closely related to various cultures. Thus, divine laws are

Antigone is who were urged to follow the laws of the god. The main protagonist Creon, who is
the new king, who believes that divine law is what is the most important aspect of the culture, it
s people, and what they should abide by. Creon says that they should obey the orders of divine
law, which are of the former king Oedipus, and that man made law is evil. Thus, Creon s beliefs
are a strong paradox of the fact that he is a mortal king, who is demonstrative of man v. god, and
thus the author creates Creon s character in such a way the he is a mortal man who believes in
divine law, not man made law. This is very effective in bringing the story to the reader to fully
emphasize that divine law is based on a verisimilitude of god s will. Antigone is the female
protagonist who follows the government or state laws, and is a firm believer that dive law is
unwritten and unfailing. There is a distinction between the fact that Creon and Antigone appear as
god and woman, against god and man, to understand the richly held beliefs that were relevant in
those times, and that the people of ancient greece wanted to follow the laws of the gods that they
saw fitting to the land and the people. Mostly, they believed that divine law was the only answer,
and the one true way to live their lives through everything they do. Then there were those that
believed that the will of the gods was not divine law, and that natural law was the best way to live,

Family Planning Methods
Many women in developing countries do not have access to services like family planning,
antenatal care and delivery by a trained personnel (WHO, 2007). For example, in a country like
Uganda, only 30 percent of married women from the age of 15 to 49 use modern family planning
methods (Salwa Bitar McKenzie Lamborne, 2014).
Low rates of maternal health service utilisation in sub Saharan Africa have also been attributed to
the unequal gender relations arising from religious beliefs, teachings and practices and cultural
influences (Katherine Marshall, 2013; UNAIDS, 2014; International Community of women living

quality maternal healthcare, there is need for strong partnership between the public health care
sector and the private sector particularly FBOs (Gill Z. et al., 2008; Widmer M et al. 2011; Gill Z

governance of society at international, national, regional and local levels . An exception is when
the texts make reference to specific governments, which disassociates the terms from each other.

The Bombing Of Pearl Harbor
It all started the morning of December 7, 1941 when Japanese leaders decided to bomb the
United States. Families were then broke apart and things became much more complex in the
lives of Americans. Pearl Harbor was not just a bombing, but in reality it is so much more. This
bombing had a great impact on the whole world for World War II. The bombing of Pearl Harbor
had many situations before the bombing, during the bombing, and after the bombing. The
bombing of Pearl Before was a bombing that the country of Japan had declared on the United
States and had planned prior to the event. Japanese had many reasons why they bombed the
Naval Base of Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan following the decision of the
Governor of Premier, Hideji Tojo, that the Roosevelt administration would not abandon the
regions of South East Asia and China to the Japanese military or continue to supply Tokyo with
oil and other valuable resources that they would need in the war. The Emperor of Japan, Emperor
Hirohito, wanted to enlarge the territory and power of Japan. Japan wanted the natural resources of
oil and aluminum that are found in the Netherlands East Indies, but in order to gain these resources
they had to get through the United States first (Quiroz 2). In July of 1939, President Roosevelt
decided to end the 1911 Japan Treaty of Commerce and Navigation with the Japanese. In reaction of
President Roosevelt doing this the Japanese were getting furious with The United States of

Seletar Airport is chosen as the main location for JAS main headquarters and maintenance plant.
The total land space available is roughly two hectares in size and would be sufficient to house a
decent aircraft hangar and office space. Within the airport itself, an existing runway (03/21) with a
distance of 1,592 meters long and 46 meters wide would be available to carry out test flights
conveniently.
Though JAS primary provides MRO services such as maintenance and repair for a wide range of
small business aircrafts, its main focus shall be the manufacturing, assembling and sale of the
Diamond DA42 twin star aircraft. Sales target are set at three of this business jet per month from
the start of JAS operations.
JAS new single engine trainer aircraft, JetStream Flyer would begin its design phase concurrently
from the start of operations and set to be in operations and delivered by year 2011. Its target sales

Twentieth Century is the Cancer Century
The twentieth century has often been called the cancer century. This is because more than a
hundred types of cancer have been discovered in this century, and secondly, because enormous
medical efforts have been made to fight all kinds of cancer throughout the world. In the early
decades of the twentieth century, cancerwas considered to be a fatal disease. Although some
cancers are still fatal, medical therapy has developed significantly over the years so that most
cancers can be treated and cured. After decades of struggling to treat various cancers, doctors are
now becoming more aware of the causes of these diseases, how they can be treated, and what can
be done to prevent them. Cancer is a disease that is characterized by an controlled growth and
spread of abnormal cells (What is Cancer?: American Cancer Society). When such a growth takes
place, the cancer cells form a tumor from which cells will invade the neighboring tissues and
organs. Some of these cells may even travel through the blood or other means to attack other
organs and tissues in the body, this is called metastasis (Medline Plus: Metastasis). Different
cancers have claimed several million lives over the years. In the 1980s, more than 4.5 million
people died in the United States alone from cancer. As time goes by, more and more people get
affected by cancer. In the past few years, nine million people developed cancers, and today there
are more than 12 million people in the United States receiving

The Sorrow Of Soreness Summary
In her article, The Sorrow of Soreness: Infirmity and Suicide in Medieval England , Rebecca
McNamara sets out to examine the interpretations of what it meant to commit suicide in the context
of the middle ages. Using bureaucratic records, McNamara analyzes how infirmity was used to
frame suicide and examines how it was an emotionally meaningful way of explaining it in its
aftermath. McNamara demonstrates how infirmity played an important role in the history of
emotions as they related to suicidein the Middle Ages. McNamara begins her article by describing
how the emotional history of suicide has largely been ignored by historians. She stresses the
importance of understanding how suicide was framed, and how the default connection... Show more

The textual records that exist that mention suicide are the ones in turn that offer the fewest
details in terms of emotions, that of legal records. These legal records provide the best source
for information on medieval suicides, and McNamara s use of them helps strengthen her article.
These sources available to her providing an intriguing connection between the daily lives and
deaths of people in these times, and their connection to the law, and how the latter can speak
volumes as source material. While certain emotions were marked as being inappropriate for
description within the purview of legal documents, infirmity, in contrast, was deemed to be
appropriate for this type of text, and could be used to explain the impulse to self killing and to
frame responses to such an event. McNamara s central concern is in examining how infirmity
was the primary legal context existing that was used to frame suicide. McNamara spends a
considerable amount of her article depicting suicide as they were described in the legal records
of the age, particularly through an examination of the records that survive from the reign of
Edward I. Here, she uses several cases in which infirmity is mentioned to make her point.
McNamara notes that more records related to suicide survive rom this reign than any other in a
150 year period. In her analysis, McNamara benefits from the writs that survive because they help
to provide validity for the conclusions she draws and support her argument. These medieval
english court rolls and crown writs demonstrate how infirmity was an emotionally meaningful way
of explaining and responding to suicide. McNamara demonstrates how there were consequences to
suicide and repercussions for one s property and goods. Under English law, suicide was regarded as

Mark, we searched both Other Regular Soft Drinks and Sparkling Water. We compared the two
reports and selected the highest reach/index numbers. The vehicles we found specific to our
target audience are iTunes, which has a reach of 35,600,000 and an index number of 135, ESPN
with a reach of 36,455,000 and an index number of 111 and iHeart Radio, which had a reach of

were Pandora (46,726,000/109) and NFL (17,898,000/110). From this research we were able to
determine that our target had an interest in music and sports. This further supports our decision to
place a larger emphasis on radio.
From the PowerPoint, we learned that Cable Television is a highly persuasive medium because
it offers sight, sound and motion. It also reaches a large audience and specifically captures the
attention of our hard to reach target (males 18 34). We chose Cable Television over other
mediums because it provides narrowcasting opportunities to focus in on specific targets. The
vehicles that we chose within this medium are Spike TV with a reach of 35,794,000 and an index

Amazon.com was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 in his own personal garage. Name after the
largest river in South Africa, the Amazon River, Bezos knew he could create a retail website that
would not have any limitations by first selling books to his consumers online and later diversifying

of the leading online business retailer in the world. In 2015 Amazon net revenue was 107.01
Billion US dollars, a major growth from 2013, which was 74.45 billion. (Statista.com). Great

The Subtle Heroine
A Room with a View, by Edward Morgan Forster, presents the story of Lucy Honeychurch, a
young woman belonging to English high society. ; Foster places this young maiden in a state of
conflict between the snobbery of her class, the suitable and traditional ; views and advice offered
by various family members and friends, and her true heart s desire. This conflict forces Lucy
Honeychurch to choose between convention and passion (Bantam Intro back cover), ; and throws

Next, Foster brilliantly introduces the character of Cecil Vyse, a medieval ; and high standing
Englishman who, while is an acceptable suitor, really only sees Lucy as another pretty
possession by his side. Cecil s most important function ironically enough, is to serve as a mirror ;
for Lucy. For by seeing his snobbish and downright crude mannerisms, Lucy receives a likely
image of what she herself could become if she were to marry Cecil for convention and not for
passion. Becoming disgusted with Cecil s behavior, she breaks off her engagement with him, yet
still cannot distinguish whether she is doing it because of his crude and snobbish nature or because
of her love for George, which she has still yet to admit.
Finally, in a heated, tearful, and heart warming debate, Mr. Emerson (George s father) gives
Lucy the last ounce of strength that she needs to complete her transformation from a petty young

Suspenseful Themes In The Hunger Games, By Suzanne Collins
There are books about mighty and brave people that do daring things. There are also books about
intelligent people who do incredible things. The Science Fiction trilogy, The Hunger Games, by
Suzanne Collins, combines these themes to create a suspenseful book that is not only interesting,
but is fun to read. This book contains many moments where the main character, Katniss Everdeen,
showed immense bravery and intelligence. One of the bravest things Katniss did came during the
start of the book in chapter 2. The annual reaping is a time of sorrow and apprehensiveness. Two
children between the age of 12 18, one male, one female, will be selected to enter the annual hunger
games. The hunger games is an arena match where 24 randomly selected people from 12 different
districts fight to the death. In this moment, Katniss little sister, Primrose, was randomly selected to

Prim! I dont need to shove through the crowd. The other kids make way immediately allowing
me a straight path to the stage. I reach her just as she is about to mound the steps. With one
sweep of my arm, I pish her behind me. I volunteer! I gasp. I volunteer as tribute! (Collins 22)
Even though this meant almost certain death for Katniss, she was brave enough to step forward
to save her sister. Nobody else would have done this because they are scared to die in the arena. I
believe that Katniss is one of few that would step up and volunteer because others aren t as brave
as her. In the arena, competitors must use a combination of skill and intelligence. Katniss was very
good at archery and was smart about surviving. Katniss knew that the only way that she could get
an advantage on the careers, people who train for the hunger games, she would have to destroy all
their supplies and somehow not get caught doing it. She decides to set off mines that the careers put
around the supplies to blow everything

Figurative Language In Blackberry-Picking
Blackberry Picking is a short poem consisting of two uneven stanzas; brief and concise. The poet
s use of flashback is to give context and insight of his life back at the farm. The length of the
poem does not take away from the experience as the poet is able to successfully express not only a
literal description of picking berries but the intensity in doing so. Although the poet portrays intense
longing through varied use of figurative language he is devoid from the intricacies of style and
structure on how the poem is overall presented. To be able to understand the poet s purpose, one
must not only look into the content but also delve into the structure of the literary work. It is
evident that the poet uses many techniques such as alliteration;... Show more content on

The vivid imagery and intimate language used to convey the intensive labor also creates
ambiguity because the poet explicitly describes his experience without elaboration. This is all
done whilst exploring multiple abstruse themes such as adolescence, greed, and death; all
portrayed through the simplicity in the act of picking blackberries. There are many ways to
interpret the blackberries. The cycle of growth the blackberries as they go through maturation; as
the poet states, ... the blackberries would ripen (2) and describe, You ate the first one and its
flesh was sweet... Leaving stains upon the tongue and lust for picking (5; 7) subtly referring to the
poet s curiosity of women and sexual maturation. Because the poem is obscure and vague with its
meaning, one might consider multiple metaphors, such as: hunger, gluttony, self control. In lines 9
and 12, Sent us out with milk cans, pea tins, jam pots... We trekked and picked until the cans were
full, using exaggeration to portray the excessive amounts the speaker hordes in the barn. The
speaker knows no restraint; instead of picking the berries in moderation becomes greedy and
realizes in his disappointment that all of the berries have rotted. The speaker makes a peculiar
allusion to the tale of Bluebeard and his wives who were unable to repress their curiosity, ultimately,

American Civil War
Experiences of the American Civil War (1861 1865): Honor, Duty and Death Introduction The
following pages are an essay on the cause of the American Civil War (1861 1865) and the effects
that the war had upon the soldiers, women and African Americans of the North and the South. In
this essay I will write about the following topics and present a view of how the war was
witnessed by these different groups of people. In regards to the soldiers of the North and the
South, I will answer the following questions: What was the enthusiasm of the soldiers from the
North and the South before the war? What was their perspective after the fighting had started? How
did the soldiers of the invading armies treat the civil population? The horrors of... Show more

The soldier s perspectives on the length of the war were influenced by the motivation to protect
their way of life. In describing the sentiments of Union and Confederate soldiers we can use
some examples that are in letters sent home by the soldiers. One Kentucky confederate wrote, I
choose to fight for southern rights and southern liberty against the vandals of the North who
were determined to destroy slavery [vi]. Another opinion by a Wisconsin Union soldier states his
reasons for fighting in the war, I have no heart in this war if the slaves cannot go free [vii]Both
the North and the South believed to be fighting to preserve the society that was prevalent in the
respective regions of the United States. The South was trying to protect the institution of slavery
and their society. The North, at the start of the war, only had the intention to overcome the
succession, but they later realized that it could only do this by destroying slavery[viii]. When it
became apparent to the soldiers on the battlefield that the war would not end quickly, the tone of
enthusiasm changed. An example of the change in attitude can be obtained from the following
passage that was written by the Union soldier Jno R. McClure to his sister in 1862 I will tell you
what I think and that is the north will never whip the south as long as there is a man left in the
south. They fight like wild devles. Ever man seems to determine to loose the last

Family Structure And Family Values Essay
Over the years, family structure and a families morals and values has changed drastically from
generation to generation. From a families core values to women not working in the workforce to
women making up a good chunk of our current workforce, to even the norms of dating and the
roles of religion and culture in a family. times now are significantly different than they use to be.
With technology a new driving force interfering with families and the world altogether, their have
been many adaptations that have came along with it.
The main subject that I interviewed was my mother s mom, Tonia Johnston. She is one of my
oldest relatives, at age 68. All of my great grandparents are deceased. We started off with talking
about her great grandparents that was about as far as she could remember and still give me
adequate information. Her great grandparents names were Emma, who died at 64, and Palmer,
who died at 86. They migrated to America from Norway, to escape the poverty that they faced
and the lack of jobs. Palmer s hope of moving to America was to find a stable job and to raise a
family in hope s of a new promising country, with more opportunities. Palmer ended up taking a
career in dairy farms. His main job was to test the milk at all the local dairy farms in southern
Minnesota. Emma had no job, her primary focus was to take care of the children and to maintain
the household. They were quite the ideal modern family. Religion was a vital role in their family.

A Defining Moment In Nursing

moment was when my cousin got killed in October of 2011. My cousin was a 23 year old lady

nurses seemed like they were getting annoyed by the questions we were asking. We just wanted

would love to be there to help families understand what s going on with their family member. I
would love to be the one trying to make sure that everything that is possible is happening for that

Urban Legend Of The Bloody Mary
I m here to tell you about the urban legend of the Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary is a urban legend
that first originated in in the early 1960s as an adolescent party game, and the person would take
a candle or a flashlight and go into a dark room and look into a mirror and say a chant, The exact
chant is unknown . After you say the chant a unknown amount of times something would appear
and or happen. For example in the Poems of Robert Burns, published in 1787: Is a great example of
a bloody mary ritual.
Take a candle, and go alone to a looking glass; eat an apple before it, and some traditions say, you
should comb your hair all the time; the face of your conjugal companion, to be, will be seen in the
glass, as if peeping over your shoulder. I m going to explain to you where this urban legend

What all these characters had in common, was they had a recognizable face, to an extent, and most
importantly, they had a name. Humans tend to give a name to most things significant in their lives;

The Effects Of Video Games On The Video Game Industry Essay
2. Briefly, what are the network effects in the video game industry? The network effects in the
video game industry are derived from the console system that is sold to consumers. If a
company is able to increase penetration in this arena, though at cost/ below cost pricing or pull
created through the development of desirable content, it can potentially lock in the added value
of the video games sold for the system. Which is to say, the console locks in the network effects
in the industry and the games serve to reap the profits. The video games, however, may present
something of a challenge in that they can be somewhat easily replicated by competitors.
Nintendo used an encrypted chip system to reduce this possibility. 3. Describe and evaluate
Nintendo s strategy in each of the following areas. Why did Nintendo take the actions it did?
How did these affect the value created by the industry? How did they affect the portion of that
value Nintendo was able to capture? a.Pricing of consoles and games Nintendo s strategy for
pricing of consoles and games was to lock in the network effects consoles offered by pricing
them at or below cost and reaping profits by pricing video games at significant margin. Nintendo
took these actions because it knew that if consumers used the NES/ Famicom console, they would
be a captive audience for its higher margin video games which were necessarily more perishable
from a consumer taste perspective. This affected the value created by

What Is A Four-Distributed Static Compensator
This paper deals with a four leg distributed static compensator (DSTATCOM) which is used to solve
the current related power quality. An amplitude adaptive notch filter (AANF) is employed for the
reference current extraction of DSTATCOM control scheme because of its simplicity, capability of
frequency and amplitude measuring, appropriate extraction of the fundamental signal, and
insensitivity to the amplitude variation of the input signal. To generate the gate pulses of the
switches, an adaptive hysteresis band current controller is used. In addition, fuzzy logic controllers
are used for a better performance of DSTATCOM under dynamic conditions. The proposed control
algorithm is robust to power disturbances, especially when the main voltage... Show more content

However, these algorithms generally demonstrate a slow time response. Time domain algorithms
are based on the instantaneous extraction of harmonic currents/voltages. The common time domain
control strategies are instantaneous reactive power theory (IRPT) [6] and synchronous reference
frame theory (SRF) [7]. Calculation of active and reactive powers by transforming three phase
voltages and currents into two phases is the principle of PQ theory, which does not work properly
under non sinusoidal supply conditions [8]. SRF theory is based on conversion of three phase
quantities into their corresponding dc components, and low pass filters (LPFs) are employed for
harmonic filtering which contain a time delay and deteriorate the performance of the controller [9].
Most of the advanced control and signal processing methods are accurate and show a better
dynamic response than the FFT, but a large amount of calculations is required, which does not
demonstrate an excellent performance in frequency varying conditions [10 13]. Adaptive notch filter
(ANF) is another advanced algorithm which has been introduced as an effective control technique
for extracting reference sinusoidal components from distorted input signal. ANF is capable of
changing the notch frequency suitably by tracking the frequency variations of the input signal [14
16].
To the best knowledge of the authors, the modified notch filter in a

Their only goal was to rescue their parents from Professor Cain and the mug monsters.
The journey wasn t an easy one. Without parental guidance, they had to learn to find food for

Along the way, they encountered a three headed dragon that wanted what little food they had!
Food, I want food! the dragon bellowed, spitting fire, smoke and ice at them.

Let s Discuss Aristotle s Views
First, let s discuss Aristotle s views. As an example of how he takes one word and states its
meaning in a central way, proving that one word although it may have more than one meaning
to be true has to be used in the right context. What I mean by this is, if you take the word hot for
example, the temperature can be hot, touch can feel hot and taste can be hot or some people
prefer to say spicy. But in this case all these things use the term hot but have a different meaning
pertaining to the same word. It is how you use it that then creates its true meaning in your
statement. This then, shows that this terms meaning can be broken down to have more than one
function but still hold its own essence of its created state. Next we have the teaching of things
being either separable, individual, or neither. He states that in order for something to hold its
own characteristics it needs to be determined as having its own existence without being
dependent of another to be then called Separable. So for example, a shirt is made up of many
strings of a certain type of fabric, whether it be silk or cotton, that patch of strings if it is
removed from that shirt, it is still a piece of that shirt regardless of if it is all together or not. It
was stitched the same way as the shirt and is still of the same color and fabric whether all together
or not. That patch is still of that shirt. Yes, it may be separate at this moment but it did not lose its
initial character just now is no longer

In recent years, plastic and cosmetic surgery has become more saturated in society through
magazines, television programs, and advertisements that promise attractiveness and youth.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2015, 17.1 million cosmetic
procedures were performed in the United States, 115% increase from 2000 (1st) . The surge in
available providers as well as lower costs and less invasive procedures appeal to the majority.
Provided conditions under which the maintenance of outer appearance is made important,
cosmetic surgery constructs the need as well as legitimization. The normalization of cosmetic
surgery is the result of the 2011 chin obsession, 2013 butt trend, and the 2014 battle of the
breasts and pecs. The desire for the perfect pout in 2016 ultimately brought significant change
and popularity to cosmetic surgery. 2011 saw the dramatic 71 percent jump from 2010 in
mentoplasty (chin augmentation) procedures for men and women. The key proponent for
mentoplasty came about from the desire for youthfulness and success in the workplace (2nd).
The chin [...] is the first area to show signs of aging (ASPS President Malcolm Z. Roth, MD).
2011 saw more patients seeking subtle changes such as blepharoplasty (eye lift), fillers,
injections, laser hair removal and rejuvenation (3rd). Patients between the ages of 40 54 years of
age saw the largest change at 77 percent while 55 came in at a close second (70%) and ages 30 39
at 69 percent (4th).

The Roman Emperor turned the area to an animal Zoo and later fenced the place. The place was
intended to serve as a game park for animals and the palace recreational center. A mansion
Katterburg was put up over the site, and later changed into a hunting lodge by the Emperor
Maximilian II. Matthias, the son of the Emperor discovered a beautiful spring when he was
hunting and renamed it as the place with beautiful spring. This led to the re birth of the place as
Schönbrunn palace. The world wars in the year 1695 resulted to part of the palace being
destroyed by the Turkish especially the hunting lodge. After the world wars, the commissioning of
the construction of the palace began by Emperor Leopold I. Key personalities involved in the
design and constructions of the palace were Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach who was charged

Proteolysis in Cheese Ripening
Proteolysis in Cheese Ripening: Proteolysis is one of the most complex biochemical events in
cheese ripening that contributes to the typical taste, texture, and aroma of every cheese variety.
This fundamental process in cheese ripening is caused by agents from several sources such as
indigenous milk enzymes, lasting coagulant, and enzymes from secondary flora. As a result of its
importance, proteolysis has been a key subject of active analysis in the past decade as new
evaluation techniques are used to examine it and its patterns.
Enzymes in Rennet Coagulated Semi hard Cheeses: Since proteins are regarded as long
microscopic chains, the production of cheese is dependent on the capability of protein chains to
link and create a mesh like network, which is known as coagulation (Hill, n.d.). When these
proteins thicken in water, they not only trap the water in the coagulation but they also transform
the liquid to a semisolid gel. The most important enzyme that causes cheese making gelation is
rennet that transforms liquid milk into a soft gel once it s added to warm milk. Most of the
cheeses produced across the globe were and are still manufactured traditionally through enzymatic
coagulant removed from the abomasa of milk fed calves (Sousa, Ardo McSweeney, 2001). The
extracted enzymatic coagulant is commonly known as calf rennet, which is a term used to explain
any enzyme used to coagulate or curdle milk and contains two enzymes ( Cheese , n.d.). The two

The reason why this is the way to go is that relational databases are limited in the number of
relationships that can be dug down and analyzed. Using a dimensional model will allow the use
of multi dimensional cubes to be able to pull 3 or more dimensions back into a pivot table. An
example would be Sales by customer service rep by assigned sales territory. This provides a
deeper detail of data than you would be able to get out of a relational database. For each
department of the university, I propose a Data mart for each one. The reason why this is the
case is so that every department can manipulate their own data as they see fit with their own
resources because it is on a different server than another data mart typically. The look and feel of
the Data Mart is up to that department and does not bother the other departments Data Marts.
Individual data marts can also increase response time because there are not as many people
hitting them all at one time. If a new department were to pop up, data mart creation is very easy
to do. Each record will be unique based on the primary or composite keys of the table, and those
keys could be surrogate keys such as using AutoNumber like in Microsoft Access. Depending on the
analysis of the data, it may be determined that the ID numbers between student and teacher are
unique and this can be the way to link items together throughout the database. The

The Importance Of Clinical Psychologists
While there are a wide variety of specialties in the discipline of Psychology, one of the most
commonly known is the Clinical Psychologists. The duty of Clinical Psychologists is to assess and
treat people s mental and emotional disorders (Specialties 1). Some of these disorders include
depression, anxiety, anorexia, bulimia, substance abuse, and learning disabilities (Clinical 1).
Because they treat an assortment of mental disorders, Clinical Psychologists can be found in many
different professional environments. Clinical Psychologists can be found in hospital, mental
institutions, public and private secondary schools, and some venture out and begin their own
private practices. Although Clinical Psychologists make up a large part of the Psychological
community and can (say how they can do a bunch of different stuff), there are very in depth
schooling that students must attend to become a Clinical Psychologist. The practice of Clinical
Psychologywas not recognized as a discipline until the end of the nineteenth century. The
psychologist who is considered the Father of Clinical Psychology, Lightner Witmer, published the
first edition of The Psychological Clinic (Baron 1). The prime article in this academic journal was
a psychological study performed by Witmer entitled Clinical Psychology . His article extrapolated
his decade long study and why the term clinical psychology was necessary in the field of
Psychology. Witmer s study and others included in the journal, were

Physical Activity Level And Health Status
Benefits of Physical Activity:
Many evidences are now showing that regular exercise is an effective strategy to prevent and treat
several chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, depression,
and osteoporosis) [29]. It has been demonstrated that the current CPAG is sufficient to elicit health
benefits, especially in people who were previously sedentary [30]. Generally, a positive linear
relationship exists between physical activity level and health status [31]. Both aerobic and
resistance exercises have been shown to be associated with positive health outcomes [32 34].
Barriers Associated with Physical Activity:
Many barriers have been identified which attribute to why people do not exercise regularly to obtain
and maintain health benefits [35, 36]. Commitment towards family, work pressure, and time
have been rated as common barriers people face to be physically active [8]. Recent advances in
technology have resulted in an increases in time spent sedentarily, especially at work [37], but
also in leisure time [38, 39]. In addition, long hours of work is specifically a barrier for adults as
they are mentally exhausted and do not feel like exercising [40]. Specifically for older adults, fear
of getting injured from physical activity and self efficacy restricts them from being sufficiently
physically active to observe optimal health benefits [40]. In addition to these, weather conditions,
lack of transportation, poor facility,

No Child Left Behind
In the case of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), is politics the enemy of problem solving? By
examining selected political controversies surrounding NCLB, it will be demonstrated that politics
is the enemy. Since NCLB s enactment, vast amounts of research literature and news stories have
been published on its effects, which demonstrates the impact and debate generated by this law. The
major goals of this bipartisan legislation were to improve student performance through standardized
testing by using data from annual test scores to measure each students and schools progress; to
close the achievement gap between disadvantaged students and their better off counterparts; and to
hold teachers and schools accountable. All these actions were to... Show more content on

The aim is to fix low performing schools. Schools and teachers would be held accountable, for
low performance and the law was considered by many to be overly punitive rather than
supportive (Jost, Ravitch). AYP leads to the next criticism of an NCLB outcome: narrowing of
the curriculum. Because so much depends on how schools fare on these high stakes tests, in
many schools, especially low performing schools, fewer subjects are being taught, so more
emphasis can be put on teaching reading and math and less time is being spent on developing
children s problem solving and critical thinking skills (Ravitch, Stecher, et.al.). Furthermore, to
make room for honing test taking skills, less time is being spent on teaching subjects in general.
This practice is often referred to teaching to the test. The fact that too much time is spent working
on practice tests is more than likely an unintended consequence of the law. Not only have schools
modified their curriculum, but also states have adjusted their educational standards so that they
are able to achieve NCLB s requirement of AYP of 100 percent proficiency. Students fell victim to
what many observers called the school districts decisions to dumb down the standards for
measuring proficiency. It s a lot easier to push down your

The Rise Of Interracial Marriages
Interracial marriages, whether it be about race or religion, create more diversity in the world.
These marriages create a more diverse world because the child of an interracial marriage now
comes from two or more races. A quote from New Marriages, New Families reads Because the
growth and diversification of the U.S. population in recent decades have been primarily fueled by
increases in the nonblack minority groups in particular, Asians and Hispanics the role of
intermarriage in the continued diversification of the U.S. population will become even more
important. Lee, S. M., Edmonston, B. (2005). This quote suggests that the cause of the recent
diversification is because of the increase of interracial marriages. If attitudes about... Show more

Being an interracial couple could have the possibility of losing valued traditions, and their children
could face prejudice from society due to the color of their skin (Root , 2006 ). When looked at this
way, the information shows that families may not want to date outside of their race because it could
create problems in their family s traditions. Also, parents and grandparents may not have wanted to
marry outside of their race because if they have a child, that child could face prejudice because of

The Incredibles
The Incredibles, released by Pixar in 2004, starts off with a flashback that dates the film in an
alternate universe in the 1960 s: a time period where superheroes, humans who possess and uses
their special abilities to protect people in need, were much admired for their courageous acts. The
strong headed protagonist, Mr. Incredible, uses his power of super strength to defend the city from
crimes and is much admired by the public. One of Mr. Incredible biggest admirer is a kid, Buddy
Pine. Although Buddy is an ordinary human, he creates gadgets that mimic superpowers. Due to

The Media And Federal Government
Mental and Social Disorder
One in every seventeen people in America suffers from a mental disorder. These disorders inhibit
the afflicted person from functioning properly and coping normally with daily life. Many afflicted
with a psychological disorder do not exhibit obvious symptoms, as medical advancements have
made it possible for these disorders to be suppressed or even nonexistent. Today, however, harsh
stigmas exist that unfairly categorize those with a mental illness as violent, unfriendly, and
abnormal. The media and federal government are culprits in fabricating the unrealistic depictions of
mental disability that define the portrayal of those who are mentally or psychologically
disadvantaged.
The media is and has been one of the strongest outlets of perpetuating negative mental illness
stereotypes. Since the invention of the television and its spread to every American household by
the 1960s, television shows have manufactured an image of the mentally disabled as dangerous
and unpredictable . The shows depict the mentally ill as very violent; One in four mentally ill
characters kill someone, and half are portrayed as hurting others . The ways in which mentally
disabled are filmed within a show also differs from the ways that non disabled characters are shot.
Studies show that they are usually filmed alone with close up or extreme shots, reinforcing their
isolation and dislocation from the other characters and from society. In movies, like One Flew Over

6) Firms using mobile marketing to reach out to its customers may benefit from this type of
marketing because it provides timely information to its customers as they go about their days
activities. This would be especially useful for short term sales on products. If I was to get an e mail
notification of a two day sale at thegolfworld.com, I am able to use the link to view sale items right

7) The significance of the shift from transaction based marketing to relationship marketing is that
firms realize that just attracting customers to buy their products is not quite as important as
establishing and maintaining relationships with them so that they will turn into loyal repeat
customers. Relationship building begins early in marketing. It starts with what customers want and
need, and then developing high quality products to meet those needs.
8) The two exchange functions of marketing are buying and selling. They are important to the
overall marketing program for the following reasons. Buying is important because marketers must
figure out how and why consumers buy certain goods and services. Retailers and other
intermediaries must seek out products that will appeal to their customers. Selling is important
because it involves advertising, personal selling, and sales promotion in an attempt to match the
firm s goods and services to customer needs.

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther King And Religion
Early on in his famous letter, Martin Luther King Jr. writes: I have the honor of serving as
president of the Southern Christian Leadership conference (King 2). In a similar fashion,
Malcolm X states in the third paragraph of his speech: Although I am still a Muslim, I m not here
to discuss my religion (X 24). Both making their religions clear, but the way they approach
religion in the two texts are starkly different from one another. Both, in a way, touch on religion in
such a way to respond to a particular religious organization. King s letter is written in response to a
group of mostly Christian clergymen who published A Call to Unity , a statement made in the
newspaper which criticized King and his methods of causing trouble.... Show more content on

He uses religion to back up his claims and shows how his actions are morally supported by the
Bible, people fighting injustice beyond their homeland is nothing new, and King argues that by
doing so he is following the religious texts he and the other clergymen live their life by.
King brings in examples from his religion to further his argument that one must oppose unjust
laws using nonviolent direct action. King is accused of being an extremist, to which he
responds: Will we be extremists for hate or for love? (King 26). A bold statement, phrasing
action as having two distinct sides. King strongly disavows the white moderate who stands to the
side and waits for justice to come with time, instead of fighting for justice in the moment. He is
quick to refer to the Bible when addressing the clergymen: Was not Paul an extremist for the
Christian gospel? (King 25). Using a rhetorical question with a biblical reference to make those
who consider him an extremist, rethink if being an extremist is such an ill position to be in. He
continues to use biblical imagery to support his point, citing that he is an extremist for love as so
many were before him, including several prominent figures from Christianity. Even Jesus Christ, he
states was an extremist for love, truth and goodness (King 26). By using this symbolism King is
able to converse with his fellow clergymen in a way that is familiar to them all, pointing out the
flaws in their

  • 2. Summary Of Letting Go By Atul Gawande Letting Go by Atul Gawande provides an intriguing perspective on people s stubborn expectations from the healthcare system. What should medicine do when it can t save your life? Most everyone seems to believe they should fight to the bitter end, until they can t possibly have anymore tubes coming out of them or medications going in. Gawande suggests that state of being is no longer living, so he raises the question of why people do it to themselves or their families. Gawande also provides the benefits of hospice care such as discontinuing medications. When patients stop fighting and start accepting the time they have, they gain more. This concept made me wonder about myself and what types of treatment I ll choose for myself one day. Will I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Muscle Contraction Lab Report Effects of Varying Lengths of Rana Pipiens Gastrocnemius on Tetanic Contraction Joshua Porter, Sofia Tuttle, Yoniko Washington TA: Ryan Hoffman Abstract Muscles play an essential role in vertebrate life from maintaining posture and locomotion to controlling the heart. Better understanding them is essential to better understanding life processes. (2) In this experiment, the effects of muscle length on the tetanic contraction tension of the gastrocnemius muscle of a rana pipiens were observed. It was hypothesized that the highest tension would be observed at the equilibrium length as observed in peer reviewed sources. (3,4,5) The independent variable was the length of the muscle and the dependent variable was the muscle tension. This experiment was done on one rana pipiens. The tetanic muscle contraction was observed by stimulating it with a current of 1.5 amps at a frequency 20 hz at various muscle lengths. The active, passive, and total forces were then plotted against the length of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To determine the current at which stimulation was maximal, the stimulator was set to 0 Amps and the muscle was stimulated. Then the current was increased by 0.1 Amps and the muscle and force chart were observed. This was repeated until the contraction force stopped increasing, which in this case was at 1.5 Amps. Then the tetanus frequency was determined. First the current was set to 1.5 Amps. Then, in the VI, the frequency was adjusted to 0 Hz, and the muscle stimulated. The frequency is set by the Pulse and Period inputs, which signify the number of pulses and the length of each pulse. So the frequency was increased accordingly and the results of muscle stimulation were observed. The frequency was tested at 5 Hz (pulse = 5, period = 200), 10 Hz (pulse = 10, period = 100), and 20 Hz (pulse = 20, period = 200). At 20 Hz tetanus was observed, so that was the frequency value used in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Traction Alopecia In Children Children are just as susceptible to traction alopecia as adults are. The causes of traction alopecia in children are similar to grown ups. Hairstyles such as pigtails, cornrows and braiding the hair can cause hair loss in kids. When a child s hair is repeatedly styled tightly, over a period of time hair follicles become damaged and incapable of producing healthy hairs. The hair folliclemay become so damaged that it stops producing hairs altogether. Hair loss occurs in the areas of the scalp that are pulled the most, usually at the front hair line, the nape of the neck and crown. Traction alopecia in children can be treated in a similar fashion to the way it is treated in adults. In fact children have a much better chance of regrowing hair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Getting into the habit of gently massaging the child s scalp will speed up their hair regrowth. It is best to use a lubricating agent such as oil to eliminate any friction which may cause further damage to the scalp or hair follicles. Bhringaraj oil or virgin coconut oil make excellent massage oils for the scalp and can also double up as deep conditioning hair treatments. Following these rules will ensure more hair doesn t fall out because of the excessive force applied to the hair follicles and that further harm isn t caused to the follicles by the use of inappropriate hair products. Stick with gentle products and stimulate hair growth by increasing scalp circulation through regular massages to give the hair follicles a chance to heal themselves and start producing healthy new ... • 6. Hypocrisy In Voltaire s Candide Candide, with his innocent optimism, taught the reader that there isn t always a silver lining; Irene Redfield proved that one s judgement and actions don t always go hand in hand; Bob Hicok illustrated that, despite all of one s observations, hope can still be found. These lessons were brought to us, for the most part, through observations which these narrators had seen and experienced. The lessons found in these texts also show the hypocrisy which these characters have, despite their observations and experiences, still permeates their beliefs and morals. To begin, it would be best to know what observationentails: the term observation means the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information or, in fewer words, gaining knowledge through watching the world around us. The use of such vivid imagery and observation has long been a powerful weapon in the arsenal of great writers, like Stephen King and J.K. Rowling, and has brought about multiple lessons and teachings for people throughout the ages. The narrator s observations in Voltaire s Candide, or Optimism, Larson s Passing and Hicok s Go Greyhound allows them to realize their own hypocrisy and disconnect between their actions /experiences and beliefs. Voltaire s use of imagery and satire in Candide, or Optimism allows the reader to contemplate how Candide has such an optimistic attitude in the face of the trials and tribulations which he and his friends endured. ... William Shakespeare s As You Like It As a Study of Perception and Misperception The concepts of perception and misperception are common themes in many of Shakespeare s plays and can be found in his comedies, tragedies and histories alike. Shakespeare explores these often parallel elements through several different forms in his work, such as disguise, mistaken identity and blindness, and events caused by these can lead to amusing, confusing or sometimes tragic consequences, depending on the nature of the plays themselves. Indeed, it is the setting for much of the action in the play and comes to mean several things to several characters. The forest represents nature in the standard opposition between that and civilisation, which is represented by the other setting in the play, the court. Arden is perceived by characters such as Duke Senior and his followers as an idyllic and uncorrupted place, whereas the civilised world is seen as irrationally cruel and ruined by humankind. Examples Of Divine Law In Antigone The emergence of world literature from antiquity to modern times is mostly dominated by the instrument of divine law, and therefore expresses an in depth understanding of the various kinds of intellectual, historical, social and cultural backgrounds that are relevant across Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. At the turn of the 4th century BC, Divine law is derived as any law that theoretically comes directly from the will of Godin comparison to man made law. The perception of natural law, is distinctly independent of human beings, whereas divine law is based on the notion that rely on human narrators and more closely related to various cultures. The main protagonist Creon, who is the new king, who believes that divine law is what is the most important aspect of the culture, it s people, and what they should abide by. Creon says that they should obey the orders of divine law, which are of the former king Oedipus, and that man made law is evil. Thus, Creon s beliefs are a strong paradox of the fact that he is a mortal king, who is demonstrative of man v. god, and thus the author creates Creon s character in such a way the he is a mortal man who believes in divine law, not man made law. This is very effective in bringing the story to the reader to fully emphasize that divine law is based on a verisimilitude of god s will. Antigone is the female protagonist who follows the government or state laws, and is a firm believer that dive law is unwritten and unfailing. There is a distinction between the fact that Creon and Antigone appear as god and woman, against god and man, to understand the richly held beliefs that were relevant in those times, and that the people of ancient greece wanted to follow the laws of the gods that they saw fitting to the land and the people. Mostly, they believed that divine law was the only answer, and the one true way to live their lives through everything they do. Then there were those that believed that the will of the gods was not divine law, and that natural law was the best way to live, more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Families were then broke apart and things became much more complex in the lives of Americans. Pearl Harbor was not just a bombing, but in reality it is so much more. This bombing had a great impact on the whole world for World War II. The bombing of Pearl Harbor had many situations before the bombing, during the bombing, and after the bombing. The bombing of Pearl Before was a bombing that the country of Japan had declared on the United States and had planned prior to the event. Japanese had many reasons why they bombed the Naval Base of Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan following the decision of the Governor of Premier, Hideji Tojo, that the Roosevelt administration would not abandon the regions of South East Asia and China to the Japanese military or continue to supply Tokyo with oil and other valuable resources that they would need in the war. The Emperor of Japan, Emperor Hirohito, wanted to enlarge the territory and power of Japan. Japan wanted the natural resources of oil and aluminum that are found in the Netherlands East Indies, but in order to gain these resources they had to get through the United States first (Quiroz 2). • 17. Twentieth Century is the Cancer Century The twentieth century has often been called the cancer century. This is because more than a hundred types of cancer have been discovered in this century, and secondly, because enormous medical efforts have been made to fight all kinds of cancer throughout the world. In the early decades of the twentieth century, cancerwas considered to be a fatal disease. Although some cancers are still fatal, medical therapy has developed significantly over the years so that most cancers can be treated and cured. After decades of struggling to treat various cancers, doctors are now becoming more aware of the causes of these diseases, how they can be treated, and what can be done to prevent them. Cancer is a disease that is characterized by an controlled growth and spread of abnormal cells (What is Cancer?: American Cancer Society). When such a growth takes place, the cancer cells form a tumor from which cells will invade the neighboring tissues and organs. Some of these cells may even travel through the blood or other means to attack other organs and tissues in the body, this is called metastasis (Medline Plus: Metastasis). Different cancers have claimed several million lives over the years. In the 1980s, more than 4.5 million people died in the United States alone from cancer. As time goes by, more and more people get affected by cancer. In the past few years, nine million people developed cancers, and today there are more than 12 million people in the United States receiving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Sorrow Of Soreness Summary In her article, The Sorrow of Soreness: Infirmity and Suicide in Medieval England , Rebecca McNamara sets out to examine the interpretations of what it meant to commit suicide in the context of the middle ages. Using bureaucratic records, McNamara analyzes how infirmity was used to frame suicide and examines how it was an emotionally meaningful way of explaining it in its aftermath. McNamara demonstrates how infirmity played an important role in the history of emotions as they related to suicidein the Middle Ages. McNamara begins her article by describing how the emotional history of suicide has largely been ignored by historians. She stresses the importance of understanding how suicide was framed, and how the default connection... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The textual records that exist that mention suicide are the ones in turn that offer the fewest details in terms of emotions, that of legal records. These legal records provide the best source for information on medieval suicides, and McNamara s use of them helps strengthen her article. These sources available to her providing an intriguing connection between the daily lives and deaths of people in these times, and their connection to the law, and how the latter can speak volumes as source material. While certain emotions were marked as being inappropriate for description within the purview of legal documents, infirmity, in contrast, was deemed to be appropriate for this type of text, and could be used to explain the impulse to self killing and to frame responses to such an event. McNamara s central concern is in examining how infirmity was the primary legal context existing that was used to frame suicide. McNamara spends a considerable amount of her article depicting suicide as they were described in the legal records of the age, particularly through an examination of the records that survive from the reign of Edward I. Here, she uses several cases in which infirmity is mentioned to make her point. McNamara notes that more records related to suicide survive rom this reign than any other in a 150 year period. In her analysis, McNamara benefits from the writs that survive because they help to provide validity for the conclusions she draws and support her argument. These medieval english court rolls and crown writs demonstrate how infirmity was an emotionally meaningful way of explaining and responding to suicide. McNamara demonstrates how there were consequences to suicide and repercussions for one s property and goods. Under English law, suicide was regarded as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Becoming disgusted with Cecil s behavior, she breaks off her engagement with him, yet still cannot distinguish whether she is doing it because of his crude and snobbish nature or because of her love for George, which she has still yet to admit. The network effects in the video game industry are derived from the console system that is sold to consumers. If a company is able to increase penetration in this arena, though at cost/ below cost pricing or pull created through the development of desirable content, it can potentially lock in the added value of the video games sold for the system. To generate the gate pulses of the switches, an adaptive hysteresis band current controller is used. In addition, fuzzy logic controllers are used for a better performance of DSTATCOM under dynamic conditions. However, these algorithms generally demonstrate a slow time response. Time domain algorithms are based on the instantaneous extraction of harmonic currents/voltages. The common time domain control strategies are instantaneous reactive power theory (IRPT) [6] and synchronous reference frame theory (SRF) [7]. Calculation of active and reactive powers by transforming three phase voltages and currents into two phases is the principle of PQ theory, which does not work properly under non sinusoidal supply conditions [8]. SRF theory is based on conversion of three phase quantities into their corresponding dc components, and low pass filters (LPFs) are employed for harmonic filtering which contain a time delay and deteriorate the performance of the controller [9]. Most of the advanced control and signal processing methods are accurate and show a better dynamic response than the FFT, but a large amount of calculations is required, which does not demonstrate an excellent performance in frequency varying conditions [10 13]. Adaptive notch filter (ANF) is another advanced algorithm which has been introduced as an effective control technique for extracting reference sinusoidal components from distorted input signal. ANF is capable of changing the notch frequency suitably by tracking the frequency variations of the input signal [14 16]. To the best knowledge of the authors, the modified notch filter in a ... Food, I want food! the dragon bellowed, spitting fire, smoke and ice at them. The girls ran without stopping until they crossed the gates of a city. Mr. Framingham wrote an article For Teen Ink about how rehabilitating young criminals is an amazing idea. The article is called Punishment or Rehabilitation? . He answered the question many people ask What is the true aim of our prison system? The answer he gave was Their most important function must be to rehabilitate criminals into society so prisons can have a positive effect on inmates .This should not be the goal in our JJS. As of now, the JJS is rehabilitating murders, molesters, sexual assaulters, ect. These dangerous criminals are released back into the world. This is putting men, women, and children in danger everyday ,yet the JJS still does it. As an example of how he takes one word and states its meaning in a central way, proving that one word although it may have more than one meaning to be true has to be used in the right context. What I mean by this is, if you take the word hot for example, the temperature can be hot, touch can feel hot and taste can be hot or some people prefer to say spicy. But in this case all these things use the term hot but have a different meaning pertaining to the same word. It is how you use it that then creates its true meaning in your statement. This then, shows that this terms meaning can be broken down to have more than one function but still hold its own essence of its created state. Next we have the teaching of things being either separable, individual, or neither. He states that in order for something to hold its own characteristics it needs to be determined as having its own existence without being dependent of another to be then called Separable. So for example, a shirt is made up of many strings of a certain type of fabric, whether it be silk or cotton, that patch of strings if it is removed from that shirt, it is still a piece of that shirt regardless of if it is all together or not. It was stitched the same way as the shirt and is still of the same color and fabric whether all together or not. That patch is still of that shirt. • 46. Proteolysis in Cheese Ripening Proteolysis in Cheese Ripening: Proteolysis is one of the most complex biochemical events in cheese ripening that contributes to the typical taste, texture, and aroma of every cheese variety. This fundamental process in cheese ripening is caused by agents from several sources such as indigenous milk enzymes, lasting coagulant, and enzymes from secondary flora. As a result of its importance, proteolysis has been a key subject of active analysis in the past decade as new evaluation techniques are used to examine it and its patterns. Enzymes in Rennet Coagulated Semi hard Cheeses: Since proteins are regarded as long microscopic chains, the production of cheese is dependent on the capability of protein chains to link and create a mesh like network, which is known as coagulation (Hill, n.d.). When these proteins thicken in water, they not only trap the water in the coagulation but they also transform the liquid to a semisolid gel. The most important enzyme that causes cheese making gelation is rennet that transforms liquid milk into a soft gel once it s added to warm milk. Most of the cheeses produced across the globe were and are still manufactured traditionally through enzymatic coagulant removed from the abomasa of milk fed calves (Sousa, Ardo McSweeney, 2001). The extracted enzymatic coagulant is commonly known as calf rennet, which is a term used to explain any enzyme used to coagulate or curdle milk and contains two enzymes ( Cheese , n.d.). The reason why this is the way to go is that relational databases are limited in the number of relationships that can be dug down and analyzed. Using a dimensional model will allow the use of multi dimensional cubes to be able to pull 3 or more dimensions back into a pivot table. An example would be Sales by customer service rep by assigned sales territory. This provides a deeper detail of data than you would be able to get out of a relational database. For each department of the university, I propose a Data mart for each one. The reason why this is the case is so that every department can manipulate their own data as they see fit with their own resources because it is on a different server than another data mart typically. The look and feel of the Data Mart is up to that department and does not bother the other departments Data Marts. Individual data marts can also increase response time because there are not as many people hitting them all at one time. If a new department were to pop up, data mart creation is very easy to do. Each record will be unique based on the primary or composite keys of the table, and those keys could be surrogate keys such as using AutoNumber like in Microsoft Access. Physical Activity Level And Health Status Benefits of Physical Activity: Many evidences are now showing that regular exercise is an effective strategy to prevent and treat several chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, depression, and osteoporosis) [29]. It has been demonstrated that the current CPAG is sufficient to elicit health benefits, especially in people who were previously sedentary [30]. Generally, a positive linear relationship exists between physical activity level and health status [31]. Both aerobic and resistance exercises have been shown to be associated with positive health outcomes [32 34]. Barriers Associated with Physical Activity: Many barriers have been identified which attribute to why people do not exercise regularly to obtain and maintain health benefits [35, 36]. Commitment towards family, work pressure, and time have been rated as common barriers people face to be physically active [8]. Recent advances in technology have resulted in an increases in time spent sedentarily, especially at work [37], but also in leisure time [38, 39]. In addition, long hours of work is specifically a barrier for adults as they are mentally exhausted and do not feel like exercising [40]. Specifically for older adults, fear of getting injured from physical activity and self efficacy restricts them from being sufficiently physically active to observe optimal health benefits [40]. By examining selected political controversies surrounding NCLB, it will be demonstrated that politics is the enemy. Schools and teachers would be held accountable, for low performance and the law was considered by many to be overly punitive rather than supportive (Jost, Ravitch). AYP leads to the next criticism of an NCLB outcome: narrowing of the curriculum. Because so much depends on how schools fare on these high stakes tests, in many schools, especially low performing schools, fewer subjects are being taught, so more emphasis can be put on teaching reading and math and less time is being spent on developing children s problem solving and critical thinking skills (Ravitch, Stecher, et.al.). Furthermore, to make room for honing test taking skills, less time is being spent on teaching subjects in general. This practice is often referred to teaching to the test. The fact that too much time is spent working on practice tests is more than likely an unintended consequence of the law. Not only have schools modified their curriculum, but also states have adjusted their educational standards so that they are able to achieve NCLB s requirement of AYP of 100 percent proficiency. Students fell victim to what many observers called the school districts decisions to dumb down the standards for measuring proficiency. It s a lot easier to push down your ... These disorders inhibit the afflicted person from functioning properly and coping normally with daily life. Many afflicted with a psychological disorder do not exhibit obvious symptoms, as medical advancements have made it possible for these disorders to be suppressed or even nonexistent. Today, however, harsh stigmas exist that unfairly categorize those with a mental illness as violent, unfriendly, and abnormal. The media and federal government are culprits in fabricating the unrealistic depictions of mental disability that define the portrayal of those who are mentally or psychologically disadvantaged. The media is and has been one of the strongest outlets of perpetuating negative mental illness stereotypes. Since the invention of the television and its spread to every American household by the 1960s, television shows have manufactured an image of the mentally disabled as dangerous and unpredictable . Both making their religions clear, but the way they approach religion in the two texts are starkly different from one another. He uses religion to back up his claims and shows how his actions are morally supported by the Bible, people fighting injustice beyond their homeland is nothing new, and King argues that by doing so he is following the religious texts he and the other clergymen live their life by. King brings in examples from his religion to further his argument that one must oppose unjust laws using nonviolent direct action. King is accused of being an extremist, to which he responds: Will we be extremists for hate or for love? (King 26). A bold statement, phrasing action as having two distinct sides. King strongly disavows the white moderate who stands to the side and waits for justice to come with time, instead of fighting for justice in the moment.
