ACU Paramedic
Assessment 1 Written Assignment: Part B A major component of the care Paramedics provide is the
assessment of a patient s physical status, which is the ground for any further treatment. The
assessment method that an Advanced Care Paramedic follows is a systematic assessment referred to as
the Primary Survey. The aim of this fundamental assessment is to give an initial diagnosis of the
patient as well as identifying any imminent threats to the patient. This assessment is used so that a
Paramedic can decide how to treat the patient while staying within the boundaries of their scope of
practice. Throughout this essay the concept of a primary survey within the scope of practice of an

The pulse is an indication of an individual s heart rate. When checking for a pulse in the primary
survey, begin with palpating the patient s radial or carotid artery (Basic Patient Care 2012, p. 50). This
may reveal a normal (60 100 beats/min), tachycardia ( 100 beats/min), bradycardia ( 60 beats/min) or
asystole heart rate. Additionally, the capillary refill may also provide details about a patient s
cardiovascular status. This is performed by applying pressure to the nail bed and calculating the time it
to takes to refill to a normal color, which should take no more then a few seconds otherwise
suggesting capillary closure (Mick J Sanders, 2012, p. 1400). An additional accessory to Circulation is
Hemorrhages, these involve more through examinations of the pulse, blood pressure and warmth of
peripheries of patients. Additionally, you must thoroughly look for indication of bleeding, specifically
in the areas around the chest, abdomen and externally seen by the eye. Upon finishing the danger,
response and circulation components of the primary survey the next step is the assessment and
maintenance of a patient s airway. This is a crucial stage as a clear airway allows for air to move in
and out of the lungs (Primary Survey Airway Evaluation, 2015). Patients in particular may have less
ability to maintain their airway, including the tongue, or liquids

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THEORY Article Review

Doyle, M. Liberalism and World Politics , American Political Science Review, 1986, vol. 80(4), pp.

Michael Doyle, author of this article was one of the first IR theorists in modern era to analyze the
assumptions on liberal peace focusing mainly on Kant s idea. The John Hopkins University published
this article in 1986. In this paper I will summarize the article and give analysis on key points that drive

In contrast to Schumpeter s liberal pacifism, Machiavelli s liberal imperialism encompasses that the
best form of state for imperial expansion are free republics and they are not pacifistic (Doyle,
1986:1154). He goes on to say that Liberty results from the competition and necessity for compromise
required by the division of powers among senate, consuls, and tribunes and also from a powerful veto
(Doyle, 1986:1154). When the citizens know that their lives and properties are secure from seizure or
attacks, liberty tends to encourage an increase population and property, with strength and imperial
expansion being the basis of protection (Doyle, 1986:1151). Machiavelli says that expansion calls for
a free republic rather than an aristocratic one. He used Rome and Sparta/ Venice as examples
respectively. Imperial expansion is important in order to avoid other states with similar aims becoming
a threat and also other citizens can pose to be a threat when they are not allowed to satisfy their
ambition or exercise their political strengths. This is the basis of the traditional belief liberal
imperialism, which Machiavelli tries to explain. The third theoretical approach is Kant s liberal
internationalism. This theory embodies both the liberal pacifism and liberal imperialism and gives a
clear explanation on these two legacies and helps to give an understanding to international relations.

Critical Analysis Of Shrek
`Shrek is the ultimate fractured fairy tale, a film that manages to simultaneously honor and lampoon
the conventions of its genre without becoming smug or condescending in the process. For while it is
sardonic, `Shrek is never cynical, so confident and assured are its makers in establishing and
maintaining just the right tone for a revisionist exercise such as this one. The film certainly conveys a
modern sensibility, yet it is a gentle sort of iconoclasm that allows us to enjoy the more conventional
aspects of the story (the happily ever after ending, for example) even as we are laughing at the obvious
absurdities contained within them.
The revisionism begins with Shrek himself, as unromantic a figure as has ever earned the title of `hero
in a fairy tale adventure. For Shrek is an ogre, plain and simple, an ugly, cranky, decidedly standoffish
beast who wants nothing more than to rid his swamp of all the classic fairy tale figures (Pinocchio, the
Three Little Pigs, The Three Bears, The Three Blind Mice et al), who have been consigned there by
the dastardly Lord Farquaad, who is attempting to purge his land of all those bothersome folkloric
personalities. To earn the deed to his land and thereby have authority to evict the squatters, Shrek
agrees to go in search of the beautiful Princess Fiona, rescue her from her dragon guarded castle, and
bring her back for Lord Farquaad to marry (thereby earning the latter the legitimate title of Prince of
the Land). Of course, every

S1: Every child in this world has the right to be safe and free from brutality. One reason why
emotional abuse is the most hidden form of child mistreatment is because emotional abuse doesn t
involve incident or visible injury. Emotional abuse can occur if there is physical abuse or not, but most
of the time there is an imbricate. Emotional child abuse has a lot of consequences. It includes: long
lasting pattern of sadness, low self esteem, unsuitable and problematic relationships, anxiety, and lack
of recognition. Emotional abuse can have a high likelihood of harming children s mental and physical
well being. Types of emotional abuse are ignoring, rejecting, and terrorizing. Each one has a different
meaning. Ignoring is to refuse to show a response or interaction to the child. Rejecting means scorning
the child s needs. Terrorizing is to force the child to do something by using threats or violence. ...

Analysis Of Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio By Dante Is...
In Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio, Dante is climbing up the Mount of Purgatory. Dante encounters many
trials that he must face with the help of Virgil (human reason). The closer Dante gets the to the top of
Purgatory the more and more Virgil fades away and when he finally does disappear Beatrice is there to
be Dante s guide.. Throughout Purgatorio, Alihieri uses Beatrice not only as a symbol to portray the
medieval church but also a light. This is why Dante is blinded by the sight of Beatrice when she drops
the veil. Most commentators agree with idea of Beatrice being a symbol of both the church and light
while Bernard Stambler agrees with this but he expands upon that symbol. While most commentators
believe that Beatrice is an accurate example of the Church, others tend to believe that the chariot that
Alihieri talks about in Canto 32 is a more accurate representation of the church. John Carroll was one
of the ones to believe this. In Stambler s book, Dante s Other World; the Purgatorio as Guide to the
Divine Comedy, he talks about how Beatrice is more than just one symbol in Canto 32 and 33 in
Purgatorio. He says that first, the essential function of the Church throughout the purgatorial process
and through the further preparation of the soul for its entrance to heaven; second, the material decay
into which the Church as an institution had fallen through her usurpation of temporal functions
(Stambler 271). He is saying that Beatrice is a symbol for Church but he expands

Comparing Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet And Baz Luhrmann
There are many different interpretations of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet that have been
made into productions, but only a few directors are able to interpret his intentions perfectly. Romeo
and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare about two star crossed lovers, Romeo, a Montague
and Juliet, a Capulet. The two families have had a feud for a very long time, therefore Romeo and
Juliet being together would cause them to be punished. Knowing the consequences the two would face
if caught, they still get married and eventually die for each other. There are many similarities and
differences between two productions of Romeo and Juliet, one by Franco Zeffirelli and one by Baz
Luhrmann, but the way the intentions of Shakespeare are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the play, Shakespeare s intentions are for the readers to see the love Juliet has for Romeo. He
displays this when Juliet is speaking to Romeo from her balcony, she says to him that And the place
death, considering who thou art, if any of my kinsmen find thee here. (2.2.64 65). This shows that
Juliet does not want Romeo to die because she is very fond of him and warn Romeo that he can get
killed if he is found here, but Romeo does not care. Zeffirelli s production best portrays Shakespeare s
intentions because in the movie Juliet worries Romeo will get caught, which will result in him being
executed. She warns him, but Romeo does not seem to care and continues talking to her. In Luhrmann
s production, Romeo and Juliet both worry they will get caught. The Capulets have security cameras
installed near the pool and that is where the scene takes place. Therefore, they both worry about
getting caught by the security guard, which will result in punishment for them both. In conclusion,
Zeffirelli s production of Romeo and Juliet best interprets Shakespeare s intentions for Juliet s concern

Why Is Italian Immigration To The New World
Italian Immigration to the New World
Italians immigrated to the United States for many reasons. That could include being refugees, gaining
freedom, because of war, later on the great depression, ect. That all contributes in the beginning of the

who made their journey here, where part of Italy are they coming from.
In the beginning of the 1900 s is when a majority of the Italians came over. The reason was because of
how they were being treated, disasters and much more. When they were welcome here they were
starting fresh and did not know what they were getting into. Although the boat was not as exciting as it

Example Of A Christian Research Paper
A Christian is a person who adheres to Christianity, an Abrahamic, monotheistic religion based on the
life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Christian derives from the Koine Greek word Christós, a translation
of the Biblical Hebrew term mashiach.
There are diverse interpretations of Christianity which sometimes conflict. However, Whatever else
they might disagree about, Christians are at least united in believing that Jesus has a unique
significance. It is also used as a label to identify people who associate with the cultural aspects of
Christianity, irrespective of personal religious beliefs or practices.
According to a 2011 Pew Research Center survey, there were 2.2 billion Christians around the world
in 2010, up from about 600 million in 1910. According to 100 Years of Nobel Prizes, a review of
Nobel prizes awarded between 1901 and 2000 reveals that of Nobel Prizes laureates identified
Christianity in its various forms as their religious preference.
Etymology
The Greek word, meaning follower of Christ , comes from, meaning anointed one , with an adjectival
ending borrowed from Latin to denote adhering to, or even belonging to, as in slave ownership. In the
Greek Septuagint, christos was used to translate the Hebrew ‫יַח‬ ‫ִׁש‬‫ָמ‬, meaning anointed. In other
European languages, equivalent words to Christian are likewise derived from the Greek, such as
Chrétien in French and Cristiano in Spanish.

The first recorded use of the term is in the New

Vanishing Voices Summary
In the article Vanishing Voices by Russ Rymer, given by college board, it describes the effects of
languages that are going extinct. A debate has arisen concerning the want to place restrictions on a
form of speech most people are unaware of, encryption. One of the largest debates has recently come
to light, as the animosity between the The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the major
technology companies regarding encryption reaches new heights. Since the Dotcom boom in the year
2000 technology has integrated itself into our everyday lives, we use it for baking, shopping, listening
to music, entertainment, text messaging, facetime, and mapping our way in a new place, to name a
few. The electronics that we use everyday contain all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many, the idea that government could could have access to all of an individual s personal
information by manipulation of ciphertext is a violation of free speech. The applicable part of the First
Amendment here prohibits the making of any law, abridging the freedom of speech (The First
Amendment). There are an abundance of ways to communicate, we can write words, we can talk, we
can take photographs, we can draw pictures. The Northwest Public Radio (NPR) published the article,
Apple s First Amendment Argument it states that, during the 1990 s. There was a confrontation in
court on whether code, or encryption, is a form of speech . A student at University of California by the
name of Daniel Bernstein, created an encryption software called Snuffle. He attempted to put it on the
Internet, the government made an effort to stop him, using laws that were meant for the restrictions of
firearms and ammunitions. Eric Goldman is a professor at Santa Clara University School of Law
argued in the NPR article, In Fighting FBI, Apple Says Free Speech Rights Mean No Forced Coding
that Daniel Bernstein s code was a form of speech and therefore protected by the Constitution .
Goldman was saying I believe that privacy is important and I m going to use this software as a
platform to protect this right . The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals acknowledged that software is a
form of speech and has been treated as such ever since. Therefore if software code is speech, Apple
claims the First Amendment also means the government cannot force Apple to comply with its cause.
The FBI wants Apple to write software code to help it break into the iPhone. The opposing side of this
argument is lead by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The government is concerned that
technology s security will prevent them from maximizing the safety of the U.S. citizens.

Why Was The Pope Called For The Crusades
THESIS: The leaders of the Roman Catholic Church proposed The Crusades as a mission for religious
integrity but they were actually intended as a way to gain power for the Pope.. Consequently, over
time, even the Crusaders, who initially believed in the religious mission, shifted their motivation from
religious devotion to greed and vengeance.
The Pope called for the Crusades to manipulate the people of the West. The Crusades were not the
result of religious devotion, rather, they were the only way the Roman Catholic Church could

What Is The Deceitful In The Return Of Martin Guerre
Was Bertrande being deceitful or deceived?
The Return of Martin Guerre was written by Natalie Zemon Davis in 1983. The movie was released in
1982, but Davis thought that there was more to the story so she decided to write a book about it. In
Davis s book at a very young age Martin Guerre marries Bertrande de Rols, they go through many
hardships and eventually Martin disappears. After a few years a man returns and says his name is
Martin Guerre, everyone is pleased by his return. Later, a dispute over land occurs and then people
start to question if this man is the real Martin Guerre or not. The case goes to court. During the trial,
twelve years after Martin vanished, he returns and this time there is no denying who he is. However,
there is one question that still remains, did Martin s wife, Bertrande know about the fake Martin or
was she too in the dark? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then again, she still wanted to be married to him. However, if Bertrande knew he was an imposter and
continued to live with him as if they were married, then she would be breaking an immoral law that
was against the Catholic Church. This is where the Protestant Church is introduced. The Protestant
Church believes that divorce is okay so if Bertrande converts to Protestantism her actions will be
justified and she will no longer be guilty of committing the immoral law. On the other hand, if
Bertrande did not know about Martin then she would be innocent in the matter. This theory does seem
to be proven true but with a few incidents of Davis making scholarly guesses throughout the book it is
likely that the Protestantism is just Davis trying to justify her presumptions that Bertrande did in fact
know Martin was a

The Psychodynamic Process Of A Steam Engine
INTRODUCTION
A steam engine is a heat engine that performs mechanical work using steam as its working fluid.
Steam engines are external combustion engines, where the working fluid is separated from the
combustion products. Non combustion heat sources such as solar power, nuclear power or geothermal
energy may be used. The ideal thermodynamic cycle used to analyze this process is called the Rankine
cycle. In the cycle, water is heated and transforms into steam within a boiler operating at a high
pressure. When expanded through pistons or turbines, mechanical work is done. The reduced pressure
steam is then exhausted to the atmosphere, or condensed and pumped back into the boiler.
In general usage, the term steam engine can refer to either the integrated steam plants (including
boilers etc.) such as railway steam locomotives and portable engines, or may refer to the piston or
turbine machinery alone, as in the beam engine and stationary steam engine. Specialized devices such
as steam hammers and steam pile drivers are dependent on the steam pressure supplied from a
separate boiler.
The use of boiling water to produce mechanical motion goes back over 2000 years, but early devices
were not highly practical. The Spanish inventor Jerónimo de Ayanz y Beaumont obtained a patent for
a rudimentary steam powered water pump in 1606. In 1698 Thomas Savery patented a steam pump
that used steam in direct contact with the water being pumped. Savery s steam pump used condensing
steam to

Chernobyl had caused a lot of people, plants, and animals to be affected. 2.5 million people were
affected. Of those people, 330,000 were relocated, 28 workers were killed from radiation and thermal
burns, and out of those workers, 19 died between 1987 and 2004, 1,000 rescue workers had gotten
radiation, and 100,000 people were disabled after the disaster. Birds had gotten smaller brains from
radiation, the Bumblebees, butterflies, grasshoppers, dragonflies, and spiders populations had
decreased since the accident, but some plants and animals can live in the radiation.
Please consider being careful when you are around gas and smoke. Chernobyl is still today affecting
lots of people, plants, animals, and land. People today still remember the Chernobyl accident and how
bad it was. The disaster had affected lots of people, plants, and animals, but people are still getting

How Do Instruments Automatically Achieve A Kind Of...
How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up
a bit of mileage?Once upon a time a 1958 Fender Stratocaster was just a second hand guitar; now, it s
a holy relic. Let s face it, the vintage instrument market has become VERY silly over the last 20 years
or so, with investors all over the world hoovering up any old six string with a few dings, wrinkles and
a six figure price tag... But what s the appeal? How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of
irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up a bit of mileage?Being a little on the vintage side
myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against the shop windows of London s Tin Pan Alley
during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les Pauls. Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and
so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with the right tool for the job. Some of the guitars that set my
eyes aglow back then were undoubtedly the Grail instruments of today s vintage market but in those
days they would have probably cost around £275, including a case and a spare set of strings.Alas, I
never bought a Les Paul back then, settling instead for a Gibson SG which I sold several years later
when I caught a bad case of jazz and consequently renounced solid body guitars in favour of arch tops.
What can I say? I was young and capricious...So when everything began going nuts during the 1990s,
I kicked myself for lack of foresight, but, being a rational chap,

What Was The Influence Of Ashoka
The world has had many great leaders, but some of those leaders were ruthless and violent. Let s
travel back to 304 BC, when the new prince Ashoka Maurya was born to Rani Shubhadrangi and
Maharaja Bindusara, in the ancient city of Patliputra (Which is now alongside modern day Patna).
Ashoka grew up to be a dauntless, troublesome and savage young man. He admired hunting, and
legend has it, he killed a lion only with a wooden stick. His older half brothers were alarmed by this,
as they feared Ashoka, and persuaded their father to post him as a general to distant borders of the
Mauryan Empire.
Because of what his they did, Ashoka knew that his brothers viewed him as an opponent for the
throne, Ashoka went into exile for 2 years in the one of the neighboring countries, Kalinga. While he
was there, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people had a chance to convert to Buddhism, because of Ashoka. The king helped many people
by doing this, because he gave them a chance for a better life. Because of this, he is still remembered
today.
Ashoka is still relevant, and people are aware of what he did, but not just in India. Ashoka has some
very famous symbols, and one of them is on the Indian flag, it is called the Ashoka Chakra. The
Ashoka Chakra is a portrayal of the Buddhist Dharma chakra, represented with 24 spokes. It is so
called because it appears on a number of edicts of Ashoka, most notable among which is the Lion
Capital of Sarnath which has been used as the National Emblem of the Republic of India.
As I mentioned, the national emblem of the republic of India is the Sarnath lion, which is known all
around the world, especially because it is on the Indian Passport. On the statue, there are four lions,
which stand back to back, mounted on a pole with a platform carrying sculptures of an elephant, a

My Conflict Resolution Style
Reflection on my Conflict Resolution Style Conflict by any definition means an expressed struggle
between at least two independent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources and
interference from the other party in achieving their goals. This can be in the form of a difference of
opinion, confrontation, stubbornness and many other ways to exemplify conflict. Everyone has
experienced conflict in one way or another. If conflict is appropriately addressed it can be healthy and
beneficial if not addressed correctly then it can become victimizing and concerning. I never intend to
make anyone uncomfortable or put off by my conflict resolution style but what life experiences has
taught me is that I will always have to deal with problematic situations and it is how I handle them
that really makes a difference in my relationships with other people. With this being said I want to
know how my method of conflict resolution effects my interpersonal relationships. Based on my
knowledge thus far, I have observed that my communication style may work with one relationship but
not others. This has left room for error regarding arguments because it is particularly difficult to
change who you are, how you talk, and the way you present yourself from person to person.
Therefore, I have one preferred conflict resolution style: the only issue with that is not everyone
accepts or appreciates it. My goal is to talk to someone I am really close with and find out his thoughts

On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads
On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads The late 18th century saw a fundamental change
in the historically rigid structure of poetry, as witnessed by the collection of poems entitled Lyrical
Ballads, penned by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. At first deemed an experiment,
Lyrical Ballads garnered enough interest and favor to warrant Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads
in 1802, as an introduction to the second edition of the collection. This revolutionary preface became a
manifesto of sorts, ushering in a period of poetry defined by descriptions of raw emotion, while
straying away from the hierarchy of past poetry. More specifically, Wordsworth advocated a break
from poetic diction and a divergence from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By weaving all of these elements together, Wordsworth creates a powerful collection of poems, where
he attempts to achieve his goal of creating an overflow of powerful feelings (Wordsworth 265).
Lyrical Ballads revolutionized the field of poetry, and Wordsworth s manifesto helped lay the
groundwork for many poets throughout the romantic period. He managed this feat by using common
language to describe the joys and struggles of the average family. This heightened the emotional
response of the reader, along with the reader s ability to relate to the themes and imagery drawn from
nature. In this endeavor, Wordsworth believed that a species of poetry would be produced, which is
genuine poetry (Wordsworth 274).

People with high internal locus of control believe that events result mainly from themselves and not
based on luck or fate (Schaper, et al., 2014). Therefore, for me to success in running the business, I
must believe that I can control the events in my life and not give up halfway.
Thirdly, effective entrepreneurs have a strong desire to know how well they are doing and how can
they improve their performance. According to Kuratko (2009), feedback is also central to their
learning from mistakes and setbacks. Therefore, in running my business, I have to actively seek
feedback from customers and learn from these mistakes.
Fourthly, successful entrepreneurs are those who learn to manage, calculate and transfer some risks to
others (Schaper, et al., 2014). Therefore, I need to learn how to manage risks and view some of this
risk as an opportunity in running the business.
Lastly, Shapero and Sokol (1982) stated that family plays the most important role in forming the
desirability and trustworthiness of the entrepreneurial action. Therefore, with the support from my

my theme because it shows that how Mr. white was ungrateful for what he had which I believe lead

Japanese Economic Development Post World War Ii
World War II left many powerful nations in smoke and rubble. The deconstruction of many countries
gave them the chance to rebuild their cities and economies. No country took more advantage of this
opportunity than Japan. Japan was a huge militaristic power in World War II . Their aggressive
behavior caused them to be stripped of their military and their power for self rule. The demilitarization
of Japan changed the country s focus from world militaristic domination to world economic
domination. The country established free trade, manufactured goods, and improved and invented
technology, making themselves one of the largest economic superpowers in the world. World War II

the police s extensive power was taken away. As temporary leader of Japan, MacArthur had some of

Keats And The Fall Of Hyperion Essay
In the description of historiographies and social theories in the longer poems of John Keats, Kathleen
Béres Rogers argues in John Keats and the Ideas of the Enlightenment that the sociological drive of
[Keats s] poetry is an inheritance from the Enlightenment (Rogers, 2012, p. 163). Here Fermanis tried
to trace Keats s working both with and against of Enlightenment legacy and in particular of its
progressive, linear model of history. Keats s narrative provoked from a savage, feudal society to an
emphasis on sensation and feeling. Endymion was indebted much to the Enlightenment and he used

of Keats: In Rome, Severn linked together candles so that as one burned down another was lit

he wished that his grave be covered with daisies (180). The flower daisy had been considered a sun

s belief in the supernatural and particularly in Celtic Romanticism. For Keats supernatural stood side
by side with Classical myths as a tool in his poetry. However, the Celtic elements better represented
Keats s spirituality beliefs than the Greek and Roman myths. He used it both as an anti establishment

Comparing Poe s The Masque Of The Red Death
The Masque of the Red Death, by Edgar Allen Poe, is a story of death and how it is impossible to
escape. Though the book and the 1964 movie were very different, they did portray the same message.
In both, story and movie, Prince Prospero throws a masquerade ball for all of his high class friends, to
let all the others die out, and wait out the Red Death. Though it always ends the same way, death. In
Poe s short story, The Masque of the Red Death, he makes it pretty apparent that there is no possible
way to escape death, no matter what rank you are. To get across this message he uses the ticking of a
clock and the ring every hour to remind you death happens no matter what you do. He also adds in
seven different rooms of varying colors blue, purple, green, orange, white, violet, and black/scarlet.
These seven rooms may represent a whole unit of time, like the days of the week. Poe also says that
the rooms go east to west like the sun s course. Every color of the room can also represent life itself,
blue represents birth, purple is youth, green is adolescence, orange is adulthood, old age is white,
imminent death is violet, then finally death itself is black/scarlet. ... Show more content on

Essay about Scene Analysis of David Lynch s Film, Blue Velvet
Blue Velvet: Scene Analysis
The opening scene in David Lynch s Blue Velvet portrays the theme of the entire film. During this
sequence he uses a pattern of showing the audience pleasant images, and then disturbing images to
contrast the two.
The first shot of the roses over the picket fence and the title track Blue Velvet establishes the setting
(Lumberton) as a typical suburban town. The camera starts on a bright blue sky with birds chirping
and flying by and then tilts down to bright red roses over a bright white fence (red, white and blue
symbolizes the American dream maybe?). Both the visual and audible aspects of this shot gives a
pleasant feeling of safety and serenity.

The next shot is an establishing shot of a house in the neighborhood. It cuts to a man watering his
lawn with a hose and then to a woman inside watching a crime film (ironic that crime is a theme of
this film) on the television and drinking coffee. It cuts back to the man outside and to the spigot and
snake like hose. The hose is leaking and the man struggles to untangle the hose from the branch. It
cuts back and forth between the hose and branch and then back to the man as he grabs his neck and
collapses to the ground. As he lays there having a stroke (maybe?) on the ground with the hose in his
hand, a dog playfully bites the stream and a baby eating a popsicle walks up. It zooms in on the dog
twice and the frame rate is lowered. This in a way symbolizes how ignorance is bliss. The dog and the
baby have no idea what has happened to the man, just like the people in the town have no idea what
happens behind closed doors.
After the dog it cuts to a close up of the grass in begins to zoom in, closer and closer. The score
becomes non existent and the churning noise begins and becomes louder as the grass gets closer. The
camera moves through the grass and the disturbing sound of bones breaking becomes prominent. The
lighting becomes darker and darker and the beetles are revealed. The beetles are shot with very low

Noah: Genesis 6:12 22 Sadly, the Bible reports that nearly all of Adam s descendents had corrupted
their way upon the earth and lost their true direction (Gen. 6:12 Amplified Bible), and, as a result of
this intolerable situation, God told Noah that He had determined to make an end of all flesh [as well
as] destroy ... the land ... by [bringing] a flood of waters upon the earth (Gen. 6:13, 17). After the Holy
Creator had uttered this apocalyptic intent, He proceeded to provide Noah with instructions on how he

on the manner they were to be used (Gen. 6:14), basic blueprints of its structure (Gen. 6:14, 16), and,

obedient to His Heavenly Father s plan however, he must have not only known where to get the
building supplies that he had need of, as well as, been quite deft in knowing how to use them, he also
had to have the knowledge of the ratio scale of measurement so he could perform the task. Though it

The Revolutionary Creation The Liberation Of The World Wide Web

Business Software Applications
Abstract
Much like the telephone or the automobile, the internet has dramatically changed the way people work
and live. Unlike the telephone or the automobile, though, the internet has single handedly led to the
creation of a relatively free space, where people around the world gather to share ideas, collaborate,
mingle, and invent a future with new possibilities that no one knew they needed today. From its
humble beginning as a relatively inexpensive lab project aimed at improving workflows to its rise
against tyranny in world affairs, a worldwide obsession with the internet has gone viral and will likely
sweep non discriminatorily to all parts of the globe. As this loosely regulated environment, also known
as Cyberspace, the Net or the Web , matures; it is the civic duty of its users to ensure that the door to
the information gateway remains open and accessible as it continues to disrupt all industry and
influence all aspects of human conditions. Introduction
The worldwide use of the internet is practically indispensible. Yet, its origin only dates back to the
early 1950s. No invention in history has grown so fast to touch so many lives. In fact, neither the
telephone nor the automobile nor the printing press has the impact of the internet on the human
civilization as a

the Welsh past and present occurrences and must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wales has two official languages, Welsh and English. The name Wales is an old Saxon word meaning
foreigner or outsider. The country is often referred to as the land of the song, because Welsh people
are often known for their love of singing. The Welsh flag, emblazoned with a red dragon, is often
debated over where it originated. Many people think the symbol dates back to the flags carried by
Roman armies, while others connect it to the Arthurian times. Wales is also home to the longest place
name in the world: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch. Many of the
Welsh people enjoy activities like visiting the pub, watching rugby, gardening, and going on outings.
Many of them are able to trace their ancestry back to some of the first settlers of the country. Wales is
one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. Its is a small country of about 3.063
million. Its landmass is about 20, 674 kilometers squared. Most Welsh people live in or around large
cities or the industrial valleys of southeast Wales. The northern parts are mostly moorland and
countryside, made up of rolling hills and mountains. northern and southern coasts are flat and sandy
while the western coastline is made of rocky cliffs. The land has been inhabited for about 28,000
years, largely influenced by the English and Celts, who were some of the first

A Great Military Leader, Douglas Macarthur
Douglas MacArthur
A great military leader...
8/30/2009
PADM 4400 Summer 2009
John Thompson
The research paper enclosed is one that focuses on a great military leader, Douglas MacArthur. This
leader was a household name in the United States during World War I, World War II, the Cold War and
the Korean War. His name was synonymous with Power and influence, during the 40 s. He became
known for his great strategic battles that ultimately won World War II for the United States and its
allies. However, MacArthur became just as popular for his sometimes off the wall theories and beliefs
on political topics. General MacArthur was born with power in his hands; his parents raised him
instilling great ambitions and the inspiring him to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Douglas respected, admired and accepted his father s teachings. His father s use of referent power had
a huge effect on MacArthur s aspirations. MacArthur returned to the United States in 1906, he was
appointed aide de camp to President Theodore Roosevelt and in 1913, became a member of his
general staff. MacArthur received notoriety as commander of Rainbow Division, in World War I. It
was at this point that MacArthur became known throughout the United States as a talented but
flamboyant military leader. Douglas MacArthur knew he was talented and he wasn t afraid to let other
people know that he was a great leader. Throughout his career his confidence and bold statements
became well known. He returned from WWI combat with a variety of military decorations. In 1922
Douglas was assigned to the West Point Military Academy. MacArthur served as the youngest
superintendant ever to command West Point. His methods were unorthodox in the books of the
conservative West Point graduates. He was known to the cadets as a leader that put his feet up on the
desk and allowing cadets to take cigarettes from his personal stash. MacArthur did away with written
reprimands; he chose to do them face to face and without any written record. Many cadets were
inspired by his unique style of leadership and his charisma. He had a way of touching your elbow or
shoulder, upping his chin with a slight jerk and crowding in his eye such a warmth of blessing.

Sepoy Rebellion Research Paper
Although some of the rumors that caused the Sepoy Rebellion may not have been true, the belief that
the British were trying to modify Indian culture caused the Sepoy Rebellion. The sepoys felt that their
religion was being severely disrespected their religions. Sir Colin Campbell, the leader of the British
forces during the Sepoy Rebellion said that Injudicious attempts to convert Sepoys to Christianity
[were] made, and [the Sepoys believed] that they were to be converted by compulsion. . . . The sepoys
probably became enraged when they believed that they were going to be forced to convert, and this
presumably contributed to the Sepoy Rebellion. Campbell also seems to have a reliable view of what
happened during the Sepoy Rebellion, as he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Joseph Coohill, a modern historian stated that Lord Dalhousie, Governor General of India,
introduced the so called Doctrine of Lapse, a policy which allowed the British East India Company to
extend its control into Indian territory when a native ruler died.... Forcing Indians to have British
rulers could have sowed discord between the British and sepoys. Coohill does not seem to have any
ulterior motives, and even wrote an article in History Today called Indian Voices from the 1857
Rebellion , which presumably means he is sympathetic towards the sepoys. This could potentially
affect his point of view, but it doesn t appear to Sayyid Ahmed Khan, a Muslim scholar and noble who
was initially loyal to the British, and then went on to blame British policies and mistakes for the Sepoy
Rebellion, recalled that The evils which resulted to India from the non admission of natives into the
Legislative Council of India were various......Whatever law was passed was misconstrued by men who
had no share in the framing of it. At length the Hindustanis fell into the habit of thinking that all the
laws were passed with a view to degrade and ruin them... Khan is describing the frustration Indians
felt with their ruler who did not represent them, but instead represented England. This frustration
seemed to build up until the Sepoy Rebellion.. Khan s initial support of the British could be because of
his high status, but paints a good picture of the distrust between the Indians and the British. When the
Sepoy Rebellion happened, there was an attempt to make the last remaining Mughal Empire leader to
be in control of all of India. This showed that Indians did not want to be ruled by the British, but
instead wanted to be ruled by their own

A Midsummer Night s Dream Love Essay
Throughout history, the nature of love has been explored through the use of plays, art, literature, etc.
In one of history s most famous examples, A Midsummer Night s Dream, four young lovers are seen
battling the complications that surround love. In William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream
love is portrayed as something erratic and unpredictable that is an affliction of the eyes as shown by
the use of the love potion and the focus on physical beauty. However, the play is set up in a way that
makes the audience feel sympathetic towards the character s romantic endeavors.
One of the major themes explored by Shakespeare in this play is the fickleness of love. This
unpredictability is shown through the use of a love potion that is applied ... Show more content on

To start off the play, sympathy is generated for Lysander and Hermia when they are forbidden to get
married. After Hermia s father complains to Theseus about the love between the young couple,
Theseus says that Hermia s options are, Either to die the death or to abjure /Forever the society of
men. (1.1) To the audience, both of these options seem outlandish and overly severe, thus generating
sympathy towards Hermia s cause. This sympathy is directed towards her desire to marry the one she
loves, thus it is directed towards the pursuit of love. Characters within the play also demonstrate
compassion towards love. After seeing Helena scorned by Demetrius, Oberon feels sympathetic
towards her. As a result of this he says to Puck, A sweet Athenian lady is in love /With a disdainful
youth. Anoint his eyes. (2.1) Again, Shakespeare shows how love generates sympathy, even among the
characters within the play. The irony here is that Oberon s sympathy towards love is also what leads to
the events that demonstrate the fickleness of love, as it results in the use of the love

converted the abandoned rails to trails and it provides access to recreational activities. Furthermore,
the trail links to neighborhoods and parks and promote bicycling as the viable option for

Reflection On Atonement
The English word Atonement is derived from the two words at onement and denotes a state of
togetherness and agreement between two people. Atonement presupposes two parties that are
estranged, with the act of atonement being the reconciliation of them in a state of harmony. The
theological meaning is the reconciliation between God and His fallen creation, especially between
God and sinful human beings. The centrality of the atonement to Christianity has influenced our
language, giving us the word crucial which means literally pertaining to a cross. When we say that
anything is crucial we are saying that it is as central to that to which we apply it as the cross is to
Christianity. What Christ did on the cross is the heart of the Christian Faith . Professor Kwesi Dickson,
making a careful exegesis of Paul s teaching on the meaning of the cross and looking briefly at what
he regards as inadequacies in modern views of this event identifies the contribution of African culture
towards our understanding of the atonement. In contrast to the European, The African regards death in
a positive way, as the fulfilment of the earthly life and as the gateway to ancestorhood. African
thought can thus throw light on the meaning of the death of Jesus Christ. The Atonement may be seen
as strengthening the community, through Christ the ever living and perfect ancestor. Just as Paul s
understanding of the cross was expressed in the language of his Jewish background, so now the gospel

Negative Effects Of Looney Tunes
Classic cartoon show, Looney Tunes, was praised as a phenomenal animated show of its time. What
others do not realize is that Looney Tunes is also a street name for lysergic acid diethylamide or LSD
for short (National Drug Intelligence Center 2003). Moving on, in 1943, Albert Hoffman invented
lysergic acid diethylamide and used it (Coney et al 1). Hoffman was known for his interest and studies
in alternative states of consciousness (Wilson 315). Consequently, since the invention of lysergic acid
diethylamide, it has gained popularity. Within this popularity, comes different perspectives of the
usage of this drug.
For example, the medical field has positive views about lysergic acid diethylamide, such as using it
for treatment. One of the possible illnesses that could be treated by lysergic acid diethylamide is
anxiety and depression (Kyzar et al 997). Their test subjects were patient with terminal cancer, which
after their psychotherapy, demonstrated rapid increases in positive affect[s] (Kyzar et al 997). After six
and a half months following the use of lysergic acid diethylamide sixty to eighty percent show[ed]
improved anxiety and depression measures (Kyzar et al 997). While there are studies in curing mental
illness, there is also studies for the use of lysergic acid diethylamide in curing addiction. Currently,
addiction exerts a large toll both on the individual and society (Kyzar et al 997). Since hallucinogens

The assessment method that an Advanced Care Paramedic follows is a systematic assessment referred to as the Primary Survey. The aim of this fundamental assessment is to give an initial diagnosis of the patient as well as identifying any imminent threats to the patient. This assessment is used so that a Paramedic can decide how to treat the patient while staying within the boundaries of their scope of practice. Throughout this essay the concept of a primary survey within the scope of practice of an Advanced Care Paramedic will be understood. Additionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pulse is an indication of an individual s heart rate. When checking for a pulse in the primary survey, begin with palpating the patient s radial or carotid artery (Basic Patient Care 2012, p. 50). This may reveal a normal (60 100 beats/min), tachycardia ( 100 beats/min), bradycardia ( 60 beats/min) or asystole heart rate. Additionally, the capillary refill may also provide details about a patient s cardiovascular status. This is performed by applying pressure to the nail bed and calculating the time it to takes to refill to a normal color, which should take no more then a few seconds otherwise suggesting capillary closure (Mick J Sanders, 2012, p. 1400). An additional accessory to Circulation is Hemorrhages, these involve more through examinations of the pulse, blood pressure and warmth of peripheries of patients. Additionally, you must thoroughly look for indication of bleeding, specifically in the areas around the chest, abdomen and externally seen by the eye. Upon finishing the danger, response and circulation components of the primary survey the next step is the assessment and maintenance of a patient s airway. This is a crucial stage as a clear airway allows for air to move in and out of the lungs (Primary Survey Airway Evaluation, 2015). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to Schumpeter s liberal pacifism, Machiavelli s liberal imperialism encompasses that the best form of state for imperial expansion are free republics and they are not pacifistic (Doyle, 1986:1154). He goes on to say that Liberty results from the competition and necessity for compromise required by the division of powers among senate, consuls, and tribunes and also from a powerful veto (Doyle, 1986:1154). When the citizens know that their lives and properties are secure from seizure or attacks, liberty tends to encourage an increase population and property, with strength and imperial expansion being the basis of protection (Doyle, 1986:1151). Machiavelli says that expansion calls for a free republic rather than an aristocratic one. He used Rome and Sparta/ Venice as examples respectively. Imperial expansion is important in order to avoid other states with similar aims becoming a threat and also other citizens can pose to be a threat when they are not allowed to satisfy their ambition or exercise their political strengths. This is the basis of the traditional belief liberal imperialism, which Machiavelli tries to explain. The third theoretical approach is Kant s liberal internationalism. This theory embodies both the liberal pacifism and liberal imperialism and gives a clear explanation on these two legacies and helps to give an understanding to international relations. ... • 5. Critical Analysis Of Shrek `Shrek is the ultimate fractured fairy tale, a film that manages to simultaneously honor and lampoon the conventions of its genre without becoming smug or condescending in the process. For while it is sardonic, `Shrek is never cynical, so confident and assured are its makers in establishing and maintaining just the right tone for a revisionist exercise such as this one. The film certainly conveys a modern sensibility, yet it is a gentle sort of iconoclasm that allows us to enjoy the more conventional aspects of the story (the happily ever after ending, for example) even as we are laughing at the obvious absurdities contained within them. The revisionism begins with Shrek himself, as unromantic a figure as has ever earned the title of `hero in a fairy tale adventure. For Shrek is an ogre, plain and simple, an ugly, cranky, decidedly standoffish beast who wants nothing more than to rid his swamp of all the classic fairy tale figures (Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs, The Three Bears, The Three Blind Mice et al), who have been consigned there by the dastardly Lord Farquaad, who is attempting to purge his land of all those bothersome folkloric personalities. To earn the deed to his land and thereby have authority to evict the squatters, Shrek agrees to go in search of the beautiful Princess Fiona, rescue her from her dragon guarded castle, and bring her back for Lord Farquaad to marry (thereby earning the latter the legitimate title of Prince of the Land). • 7. Analysis Of Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio By Dante Is... In Dante Alihieri s Purgatorio, Dante is climbing up the Mount of Purgatory. Dante encounters many trials that he must face with the help of Virgil (human reason). The closer Dante gets the to the top of Purgatory the more and more Virgil fades away and when he finally does disappear Beatrice is there to be Dante s guide.. Throughout Purgatorio, Alihieri uses Beatrice not only as a symbol to portray the medieval church but also a light. This is why Dante is blinded by the sight of Beatrice when she drops the veil. Most commentators agree with idea of Beatrice being a symbol of both the church and light while Bernard Stambler agrees with this but he expands upon that symbol. While most commentators believe that Beatrice is an accurate example of the Church, others tend to believe that the chariot that Alihieri talks about in Canto 32 is a more accurate representation of the church. John Carroll was one of the ones to believe this. In Stambler s book, Dante s Other World; the Purgatorio as Guide to the Divine Comedy, he talks about how Beatrice is more than just one symbol in Canto 32 and 33 in Purgatorio. He says that first, the essential function of the Church throughout the purgatorial process and through the further preparation of the soul for its entrance to heaven; second, the material decay into which the Church as an institution had fallen through her usurpation of temporal functions (Stambler 271). Comparing Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet And Baz Luhrmann There are many different interpretations of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet that have been made into productions, but only a few directors are able to interpret his intentions perfectly. Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare about two star crossed lovers, Romeo, a Montague and Juliet, a Capulet. The two families have had a feud for a very long time, therefore Romeo and Juliet being together would cause them to be punished. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the play, Shakespeare s intentions are for the readers to see the love Juliet has for Romeo. He displays this when Juliet is speaking to Romeo from her balcony, she says to him that And the place death, considering who thou art, if any of my kinsmen find thee here. (2.2.64 65). This shows that Juliet does not want Romeo to die because she is very fond of him and warn Romeo that he can get killed if he is found here, but Romeo does not care. Zeffirelli s production best portrays Shakespeare s intentions because in the movie Juliet worries Romeo will get caught, which will result in him being executed. She warns him, but Romeo does not seem to care and continues talking to her. In Luhrmann s production, Romeo and Juliet both worry they will get caught. The Capulets have security cameras installed near the pool and that is where the scene takes place. Therefore, they both worry about getting caught by the security guard, which will result in punishment for them both. A debate has arisen concerning the want to place restrictions on a form of speech most people are unaware of, encryption. One of the largest debates has recently come to light, as the animosity between the The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the major technology companies regarding encryption reaches new heights. Since the Dotcom boom in the year 2000 technology has integrated itself into our everyday lives, we use it for baking, shopping, listening to music, entertainment, text messaging, facetime, and mapping our way in a new place, to name a few. For many, the idea that government could could have access to all of an individual s personal information by manipulation of ciphertext is a violation of free speech. The applicable part of the First Amendment here prohibits the making of any law, abridging the freedom of speech (The First Amendment). There are an abundance of ways to communicate, we can write words, we can talk, we can take photographs, we can draw pictures. The Northwest Public Radio (NPR) published the article, Apple s First Amendment Argument it states that, during the 1990 s. There was a confrontation in court on whether code, or encryption, is a form of speech . A student at University of California by the name of Daniel Bernstein, created an encryption software called Snuffle. He attempted to put it on the Internet, the government made an effort to stop him, using laws that were meant for the restrictions of firearms and ammunitions. Eric Goldman is a professor at Santa Clara University School of Law argued in the NPR article, In Fighting FBI, Apple Says Free Speech Rights Mean No Forced Coding that Daniel Bernstein s code was a form of speech and therefore protected by the Constitution . Goldman was saying I believe that privacy is important and I m going to use this software as a platform to protect this right . The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals acknowledged that software is a form of speech and has been treated as such ever since. Therefore if software code is speech, Apple claims the First Amendment also means the government cannot force Apple to comply with its cause. The FBI wants Apple to write software code to help it break into the iPhone. The opposing side of this argument is lead by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The movie was released in 1982, but Davis thought that there was more to the story so she decided to write a book about it. In Davis s book at a very young age Martin Guerre marries Bertrande de Rols, they go through many hardships and eventually Martin disappears. After a few years a man returns and says his name is Martin Guerre, everyone is pleased by his return. Later, a dispute over land occurs and then people start to question if this man is the real Martin Guerre or not. The case goes to court. During the trial, twelve years after Martin vanished, he returns and this time there is no denying who he is. Then again, she still wanted to be married to him. However, if Bertrande knew he was an imposter and continued to live with him as if they were married, then she would be breaking an immoral law that was against the Catholic Church. This is where the Protestant Church is introduced. The Protestant Church believes that divorce is okay so if Bertrande converts to Protestantism her actions will be justified and she will no longer be guilty of committing the immoral law. On the other hand, if Bertrande did not know about Martin then she would be innocent in the matter. This theory does seem to be proven true but with a few incidents of Davis making scholarly guesses throughout the book it is likely that the Protestantism is just Davis trying to justify her presumptions that Bertrande did in fact know Martin was a ... • 19. The Psychodynamic Process Of A Steam Engine INTRODUCTION A steam engine is a heat engine that performs mechanical work using steam as its working fluid. Steam engines are external combustion engines, where the working fluid is separated from the combustion products. Non combustion heat sources such as solar power, nuclear power or geothermal energy may be used. The ideal thermodynamic cycle used to analyze this process is called the Rankine cycle. In the cycle, water is heated and transforms into steam within a boiler operating at a high pressure. When expanded through pistons or turbines, mechanical work is done. The reduced pressure steam is then exhausted to the atmosphere, or condensed and pumped back into the boiler. In general usage, the term steam engine can refer to either the integrated steam plants (including boilers etc.) such as railway steam locomotives and portable engines, or may refer to the piston or turbine machinery alone, as in the beam engine and stationary steam engine. Specialized devices such as steam hammers and steam pile drivers are dependent on the steam pressure supplied from a separate boiler. The use of boiling water to produce mechanical motion goes back over 2000 years, but early devices were not highly practical. The Spanish inventor Jerónimo de Ayanz y Beaumont obtained a patent for a rudimentary steam powered water pump in 1606. In 1698 Thomas Savery patented a steam pump that used steam in direct contact with the water being pumped. Savery s steam pump used condensing steam to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up a bit of mileage?Once upon a time a 1958 Fender Stratocaster was just a second hand guitar; now, it s a holy relic. Let s face it, the vintage instrument market has become VERY silly over the last 20 years or so, with investors all over the world hoovering up any old six string with a few dings, wrinkles and a six figure price tag... But what s the appeal? How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they ve clocked up a bit of mileage?Being a little on the vintage side myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against the shop windows of London s Tin Pan Alley during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les Pauls. Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with the right tool for the job. Some of the guitars that set my eyes aglow back then were undoubtedly the Grail instruments of today s vintage market but in those days they would have probably cost around £275, including a case and a spare set of strings.Alas, I never bought a Les Paul back then, settling instead for a Gibson SG which I sold several years later when I caught a bad case of jazz and consequently renounced solid body guitars in favour of arch tops. This can be in the form of a difference of opinion, confrontation, stubbornness and many other ways to exemplify conflict. Everyone has experienced conflict in one way or another. If conflict is appropriately addressed it can be healthy and beneficial if not addressed correctly then it can become victimizing and concerning. With this being said I want to know how my method of conflict resolution effects my interpersonal relationships. This has left room for error regarding arguments because it is particularly difficult to change who you are, how you talk, and the way you present yourself from person to person. On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads On William Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads The late 18th century saw a fundamental change in the historically rigid structure of poetry, as witnessed by the collection of poems entitled Lyrical Ballads, penned by William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge. At first deemed an experiment, Lyrical Ballads garnered enough interest and favor to warrant Wordsworth s Preface to Lyrical Ballads in 1802, as an introduction to the second edition of the collection. This revolutionary preface became a manifesto of sorts, ushering in a period of poetry defined by descriptions of raw emotion, while straying away from the hierarchy of past poetry. He managed this feat by using common language to describe the joys and struggles of the average family. • 37. Comparing Poe s The Masque Of The Red Death The Masque of the Red Death, by Edgar Allen Poe, is a story of death and how it is impossible to escape. Though the book and the 1964 movie were very different, they did portray the same message. In both, story and movie, Prince Prospero throws a masquerade ball for all of his high class friends, to let all the others die out, and wait out the Red Death. Though it always ends the same way, death. In Poe s short story, The Masque of the Red Death, he makes it pretty apparent that there is no possible way to escape death, no matter what rank you are. To get across this message he uses the ticking of a clock and the ring every hour to remind you death happens no matter what you do. He also adds in seven different rooms of varying colors blue, purple, green, orange, white, violet, and black/scarlet. These seven rooms may represent a whole unit of time, like the days of the week. Poe also says that the rooms go east to west like the sun s course. Every color of the room can also represent life itself, blue represents birth, purple is youth, green is adolescence, orange is adulthood, old age is white, imminent death is violet, then finally death itself is black/scarlet. ... Francesca is a very religious person and believes that God is the true God and she will go to paradise. • 38. Essay about Scene Analysis of David Lynch s Film, Blue Velvet Blue Velvet: Scene Analysis The opening scene in David Lynch s Blue Velvet portrays the theme of the entire film. During this sequence he uses a pattern of showing the audience pleasant images, and then disturbing images to contrast the two. The first shot of the roses over the picket fence and the title track Blue Velvet establishes the setting (Lumberton) as a typical suburban town. The camera starts on a bright blue sky with birds chirping and flying by and then tilts down to bright red roses over a bright white fence (red, white and blue symbolizes the American dream maybe?). Both the visual and audible aspects of this shot gives a pleasant feeling of safety and serenity. The next shot is of a bright red fire truck slowly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next shot is an establishing shot of a house in the neighborhood. It cuts to a man watering his lawn with a hose and then to a woman inside watching a crime film (ironic that crime is a theme of this film) on the television and drinking coffee. It cuts back to the man outside and to the spigot and snake like hose. The hose is leaking and the man struggles to untangle the hose from the branch. It cuts back and forth between the hose and branch and then back to the man as he grabs his neck and collapses to the ground. As he lays there having a stroke (maybe?) on the ground with the hose in his hand, a dog playfully bites the stream and a baby eating a popsicle walks up. It zooms in on the dog twice and the frame rate is lowered. This in a way symbolizes how ignorance is bliss. The dog and the baby have no idea what has happened to the man, just like the people in the town have no idea what happens behind closed doors. After the dog it cuts to a close up of the grass in begins to zoom in, closer and closer. The score becomes non existent and the churning noise begins and becomes louder as the grass gets closer. The camera moves through the grass and the disturbing sound of bones breaking becomes prominent. The lighting becomes darker and darker and the beetles are revealed. The beetles are shot with very low key lighting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Internet Of Things The Revolutionary Creation The Liberation Of The World Wide Web Gary Kwong 8/11/2014 Dr. Michael Jones CIS 206 Business Software Applications Abstract Much like the telephone or the automobile, the internet has dramatically changed the way people work and live. Unlike the telephone or the automobile, though, the internet has single handedly led to the creation of a relatively free space, where people around the world gather to share ideas, collaborate, mingle, and invent a future with new possibilities that no one knew they needed today. Sir Colin Campbell, the leader of the British forces during the Sepoy Rebellion said that Injudicious attempts to convert Sepoys to Christianity [were] made, and [the Sepoys believed] that they were to be converted by compulsion. . . . Forcing Indians to have British rulers could have sowed discord between the British and sepoys. Coohill does not seem to have any ulterior motives, and even wrote an article in History Today called Indian Voices from the 1857 Rebellion , which presumably means he is sympathetic towards the sepoys. This could potentially affect his point of view, but it doesn t appear to Sayyid Ahmed Khan, a Muslim scholar and noble who was initially loyal to the British, and then went on to blame British policies and mistakes for the Sepoy Rebellion, recalled that The evils which resulted to India from the non admission of natives into the Legislative Council of India were various......Whatever law was passed was misconstrued by men who had no share in the framing of it. • 46. Reflection On Atonement The English word Atonement is derived from the two words at onement and denotes a state of togetherness and agreement between two people. Atonement presupposes two parties that are estranged, with the act of atonement being the reconciliation of them in a state of harmony. The theological meaning is the reconciliation between God and His fallen creation, especially between God and sinful human beings. The centrality of the atonement to Christianity has influenced our language, giving us the word crucial which means literally pertaining to a cross. When we say that anything is crucial we are saying that it is as central to that to which we apply it as the cross is to Christianity. What Christ did on the cross is the heart of the Christian Faith . Professor Kwesi Dickson, making a careful exegesis of Paul s teaching on the meaning of the cross and looking briefly at what he regards as inadequacies in modern views of this event identifies the contribution of African culture towards our understanding of the atonement. In contrast to the European, The African regards death in a positive way, as the fulfilment of the earthly life and as the gateway to ancestorhood. African thought can thus throw light on the meaning of the death of Jesus Christ. The Atonement may be seen as strengthening the community, through Christ the ever living and perfect ancestor. Just as Paul s understanding of the cross was expressed in the language of his Jewish background, so now the gospel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
