Implicit Gender Bias Essay
Implicit Gender Bias and Women in STEM Fields
Most people consider themselves as rational, reasoning individuals who make decisions after
considering the facts at hand. Research suggests that this is often not the case, with implicit bias at
work shaping one s responses. Researchers at Cornell University have defined implicit bias as
unconscious, unintentional bias (Royer, Hido Slotnick, 2017). Predictors of implicit bias include socio
economic status, gender, ethnicity, childhood experience, and cultural experience (Cooley, Payne
Phillips, 2013). Unlike explicit bias which reflects attitudes or beliefs that one endorses on a conscious
level, implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions and
decisions in an unconscious manner resulting from subtle cognitive processes that often operate at a
level below conscious awareness and without intentional control (Gyan, n.d.). Of these, implicit
gender bias affects the health and social wellbeing of women, as well as disadvantages women
economically and in the workplace. As such implicit gender bias is endemic within the scientific,
technological, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and this bias can disadvantage women
pursing these careers (Moss Racusin, Dovidio, Brescoll, Graham Handelsman, 2012). The importance
of further study of mitigating interventions of this implicit gender bias is clear. Our hypothesis is that
implicit gender bias related to women in STEM fields will

USA s Copyright Law
Copyright Law
1. Copyright law offers copyright holders the exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, and publicly
perform copyrighted work (Carnes). The copyright holder has the authority to govern how the
copyrighted material is distributed by giving specific permissions in writing. Without a specific
written permission, no one has the rights to distribute or sell the copyrighted work.
By selling collections that contain the whole program of the copyrighted material, Software of the
Month Club (SOMC) is selling the copyrighted material without permission from the copyright
holder, Cybersell Impact, Inc. The claim of endorsing and distributing the shareware as performing a
service for the creators infringes the copyright law because of the distributions of the whole program.
The copyright laws allow a small portion of copyrighted material to be used for socially beneficial
purposes, but not the whole program. And, there was a restriction on the distribution that allowed the
sample portion to be distributed without charge to users. The actual charging of the software and the
fact of the whole program being distributed violated the copyright laws and the restriction of the
copyright holder.
The behavior that is being encouraged by the copyright laws and the judges in this case is to treat each
other fair and with respect. If the copyright holder gives permission, then it is ok to distribute and sell,
depending on what is actually granted in the written permission. By not

Rhetorical Strategies Of John Humhryss
Rough Draft
How does Humphry s use rhetorical strategies to persuade his readers?
Introduction
John Humphrys is very irritated that the writing he knows is been spoiled by people who are using
slag and abbreviations when communicating. He believes that writing has been wrecked in a huge
manner as all that he though was right is now not considered in writing. He is also afraid that even in
some areas where he thought that writing should be official and all the rules followed, a lot of the
texting slag is used. As he states, people use the abbreviations to take care of time and use the shortest
time possible to communicate. But instead this is not true since there are a big percentage of people
who take time to understand the meaning of the abbreviations but some even fail to understand the
meaning or misinterpret them after they have wasted a lot of time. Therefore Humphrys is determined
to convincing people that texting has affected the proper way of writing. John Humphrys used the
different strategies of rhetorical persuasion to persuade his audience and make it believe that what he
is arguing about is true.
Ethos This is an appeal dealing with ethics, (Charland et al, 2017). It is a way in which a person is
convinced of the credibility or the character of the persuader. John Humphrys uses ethos to convince
his audience by expressing how he is credible and how he is well informed on the subject matter. He
convinces the author that he has vast knowledge on writing and

Emily Point Of View
Point of view is a unique element of the story A rose for Emily; And there are more than one point of
view in the story. (The way the writer tell the story) At the beginning of the story, the narrator is called
in the first person plural pronoun we , so the reader can not know exactly who the character narrator
is. That person could be a man or a woman in the Jefferson town going to Miss Emily s funeral, a boy
who is looking at Miss Emily s house, a big, squarish frame one that had once been white, decorated
in the heavily lightsome style of the senventies . It s possible that the narrator is Miss Emily s servent,
Tobe, because only he could know her secret such as the story about Colonel Sartoris inventing an
involved tale to remit Miss Emily s taxes. Besides, a few aspects of the story show that the narrator ...

But the narrator doesn t know everything about Miss Emily. When Miss Emily buy some poison, the
narrator doesn t know what she will do, just deduces that she will kill herseft; and the truth is only
revealed when the death body of her lover is found out. Therefore, in this case the point of view of the
story is limited omniscient point of view. (The author s point of view) The story A rose for Emily is
written under the special point of views because the author William Faulkner is also a special person.
He was born after the Civil War of the United States of America, in a noble family of the Southern.
His grandfather had a important role in the headquarters of the Southern in the Civil War. Thus,
eventhough he is a person belonging to the new generation, he can understand a lot of things about the
older generation. Therefore, the narrator in his story A rose for Emily aslo knows exactly Miss Emily s

What Is Bilingualism In The United States
Francois Grosjean Ph.D. said, Over the past thirty years, many traditional immigrant languages have
declined in number. In fact, approximately 80% population of The United States are monolingual,
therefore, some states contain proportionally small percentage bilingual or multilingual speakers.
However, situation looks different in New York which is one of few most bilingual cities. According
to 2016 Census data about 53% New Yorkers are bilingual or multilingual. Each of them has gone
through a different route to bilingualism and their personal experiences contain interesting aspects of
bilingualism. This research presents one of many bilingual people living in New York.

Bilingualism significantly reduces the barriers between people with different roots, interrupts fears
and shame before confronting culturally different people. Bilingualism also opens opportunities to get
to know different global issues, which is very helpful during travel or living in a place different
culturally and linguistically as New York. In retrospect, despite the initial difficulties on the way to
bilingualism, the participant considers that bilingual persons have easier life which she experienced to
a large extent. Guided by this observation she made the steps so that her sons could be multilingual.
Unfortunately, she only reached its goal in half. Her older son attended a Polish school learning the
rules of grammar and spelling of the Polish language, therefore, he achieved fluency and the ability to
write and read in Polish. The younger son found it difficult to assimilate the grammatical and phonetic
rules of the Polish, which is in the head of the most arduous languages of the world. He did not want
to attend additional classes, so he only gained fluency in speaking, which was the result of using only
Polish at home to talk. Despite the obvious benefits of being bilingual, the participant did not want to
force her son to do extra jobs, remembering her experiences along the way. Nevertheless, both boys

Ted Hughes conflicting perspectives
Conflicting Perspectives Essay
Composers deliberately manipulate conflicting perspectives in order to achieve their purpose. This
may be a unanimous truth amongst composers whether it is to attract sympathy, inform the responder,
or to make a comment on the functioning and morality of society. In order to achieve their purpose,
composers deliberately manipulate responder s conflicting perspectives so that they will have the same
perspective as them. Ted Hughes utilises the subjective nature of the textual form of poetry so as to
evoke a certain response to sympathise with him and relieve himself of any guilt in his collection of
poetry, Birthday Letters . The Sea Inside , a 2000 Spanish film based on a true story, directed by ...

A tone of underlying resentment towards Plath is felt by the responder by this mocking description
following her death which suggests that he may feel responsible and further attempts to manipulate the
responder s perspective in order to clear him of this guilt.
Alejandro Amenabar uses film techniques and characterisation in order to subtly manipulate the
audience s response which is one is one of sympathy. His purpose in making the film was more than to
merely place his own perspectives to the audience but instead to inform the responder and lead them
to make their own decisions based on the knowledge gained through the film. Based on a true story,
the main character Ramon became a paraplegic during a diving accident and after twenty five years of
being bed ridden, he wishes to end his life through euthanasia. This character attracts the most
sympathy in the film as he is the main protagonist of the film, intentionally done so by Amenabar in
order to persuade the responder to side with him. Due to the very controversial nature of the issue, he
attempts to maintain indifferent in his approach to informing the responder about the severity of
euthanasia, reflecting society s stance on the matter. His use of high panning angles to mimic flying
during one of Ramon s dream sequences shows vast landscapes expressing his innermost desires

Chrysalids Rebellion Quotes
Chrysalids essay Kaden I think the author added rebellion of culture as a theme because we re so used
to following our ways and not rebelling against culture and it mixes us up from what we re used too
and intrigues us. I think the author hints that rebelling is acceptable in the novel so that we think about
it and decide if it actually is. In the chrysalids rebellion happens because if a person is being harmed
or discriminated in an unfair manner they are allowed to rebel. He thinks rebellion is ok because
maybe a deviation could be helpful, for example David and his friends could talk without speaking.
Also, I think the author argues it is ok to rebel to protect someone else from harm. Many people in the
chrysalids rebel from their culture and society, these are just some examples of why the author lets
rebellion happen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Eviction
What s more important, food or shelter? This is the hard question many mothers have to ask
themselves every month when the rent is due. In low income, primarily black neighborhoods, this is
especially prevalent. The cost of living has greatly increased in urban areas like Milwaukee, but
government benefits are staying the same, creating a gap that cannot be easily filled. Because of this,
many black women with children have to pick between feeding their families and paying their bills,
like rent, gas, and water. The majority of mothers choose to feed their children over paying rent, and
this often results in eviction when their debt grows too large. The black community is consistently and
excessively faced with criminal charges; as Desmond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who grow up in low income houses are often teased and ridiculed by peers for not having the
newest clothing, toys, etc., for not having a father at home, and for living in poor conditions, public
housing, or homeless shelters. This bullying usually results in low self esteem and depression, as well
as the higher risk for poor health. These children are also more likely to have learning difficulties, as
well as the behavioral, social, and emotional problems that come with being raised in a low income
household ( Child Development ).
So why don t these poor, black women just get help? Because they don t qualify for assistance, or they
simply can t wait around that long to receive it. Wait times for public housing can range from 1 2
years to upwards of 10, and after going through all of the paperwork and legal trouble, only 25% of
families who qualify for public housing ever receive it; the rest are struggling along in the private
market, being refused housing by dozens of landlords. Through this, evictions often encourage
economic disadvantage and social suffering in America s urban centers, such as Milwaukee

Macbeth Desire For Power Analysis
A power struggle is a common reoccurring event that is seen across literature , whether it s when a
character is trying to escape a higher power, gain power for themselves, or both. Macbeth, from
Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Macbeth portrays this perfectly. Macbeth s drive for power is the
sole focus of the play and is an important trait that defines him as a character.
The Tragedy of Macbeth is driven by an adoration for power. Shakespeare utilizes the main character,
Macbeth, to speak to humanity s craving for power over one another. The first instance that Macbeth
can be seen to show his drive for power is when the three witches tell him All hail, Macbeth! Hail to

Since Macbeth has now been named king, after his sinful act and has obtained all the power that he
strived for, one would believe that he would stop these murder demonstrations. But in fact, now that he
has control and the power of the king , he is so jumpy about losing it, that he proceeds with the killing
s over power , which helps enhance the overall meaning of Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth
(Quote Insert).
Shakespeare s use of imagery and detail conjure up scenes of oceans and rivers of blood and pitch
black nights without starlight (Quote Credit). As Macbeth grapples with his conscience after he kills
Banquo, because of his suspicion of King Duncan s murder, he starts to see daggers and the phantom
of his closest companion before him. This leads to people starting to question Macbeth s mental
stability. Macbeth additionally orders Banquo s son, Fleance,to be killed because of the witches
proposal that Banquo shalt get kings, though thou be none, this shows that Macbeth s desire for power
causes him to be paranoid and to kill one of his closest companions, as well as his son, if it were not
for the desire of power that he is engulfed in (Quote Credit). The killings of Banquo and his son help
highlight how far someone would go and that people will surrender their own personal morals to

5 Mother Sauces
Five Mother Sauces
Throughout the history of cuisine; sauces have been used as a basis for many regional styles of
cuisine. A sauce is defined as a liquid or semi solid food served on or in the process of preparing other
foods. Sauces are created to accompany other foods and make them look, smell, and taste better. They
are easily digested and nutritionally beneficial. Sauces are not served by themselves; they add flavor,
moisture, aromas, and visual appeals to a finished dish. Today there are many different compound or
small sauces that can be seen worldwide, however these small sauces are linked to and are derived
from the five classified mother sauces. Two French chefs that contributed to the creation of these
fundamental sauces are, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bechameil had invented BĂ©chamel Sauce when trying to come up with a new way of serving and
eating dried cod. Only royalty would use milk in their recopies. Originally it was made by adding
heavy cream to a thick veal veloute. However today it is usually made without veal stock. It s also
known as white sauce. It is a smooth, white sauce made from a white roux made with flour, butter and
boiled milk. It is usually found served with white meats, eggs, and vegetables. It forms the basis of
many other sauces. For example cheese, cream sauce, Mornay, nantua, and Soubise are all made from
BĂ©chamel. BĂ©chamel sauce is the easiest mother sauce to prepare.
A properly constructed BĂ©chamel is creamy, and smooth with no lumps or graininess. You must use a
stainless steel pan to cook in, if an aluminum pan is used it can discolor the white sauce to a murky
grey. The flavor of the onion and clove used to season the sauce should be noticeable, but not strong
enough to overwhelm the milk base. In similarity the sauce should not taste like the roux. BĂ©chamel
should have a sheen white color, and should be thick enough to coat the foods lightly in on the dish.
Classically Served With, Eggs, Fish, Steamed Poultry, Steamed Vegetables, Pastas, Veal

Memory And Imagination
Memory and imagination are central to Brian Friels play, Dancing at Lughnasa and Emma Donoghues
2010 novel, Room; However, as memory provides substance to imagination and vice versa there can
often be a blurring of lines between memory and imagination, shuffling events and shuffling reality.
This overlap between memory and imagination will be the main focus of this essay.
According to Pierre Nora, memory can be multiple, yet also specific, collective, plural and individual;
it only accommodates facts that suit it and nourishes the recollections that might be particular or
symbolic (Nora 9). Memory is life, borne by living societies founded in its name. It remains in

Room is the story of five year old, Jack and his Ma, who live in an eleven by eleven shed, named

nothing of the outside world beyond fantasies of the television screen, with the help of Ma s

In the first half of the novel, readers are invited into Jacks world inside Room, through his innocent

The Theme of Time in Slaughterhouse-Five Essay
The Theme of Time in Slaughterhouse Five
Many writers in history have written science fiction novels and had great success with them, but only
a few have been as enduring over time as Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five. Slaughterhouse Five
is a personal novel which draws upon Vonnegut s experience s as a scout in World War Two, his
capture and becoming a prisoner of war, and his witnessing of the fire bombing of Dresden in
February of 1945 (the greatest man caused massacre in history). The novel is about the life and times
of a World War Two veteran named Billy Pilgrim. In Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut uses
structure and point of view to portray the theme that time is relative.

dimension, time, which allowed them to keep Billy for what seemed like longer than what he was

nothing that happens to you damages you forever. Since time is relative, and your life is like a

Slaughterhouse Five is written from also affects the way the reader fells about time after reading the
novel. Since the story is narrated by a omniscient being that is everywhere with Billy Pilgrim, the
reader gets a first hand account of every event in his life. Also Billy is very relaxed and accepting all
things around him. A good example of this is Billy s habit of following every death with so it goes .
(Vonnegut 69) The repetition of this phrase not only de emphasizes death, but also helps Vonnegut
assert control over the readers response after a death. (Dawley 2) The way Billy

Islamic Law And Islamic Politics
The role of Islamic law in the modern secular state is central to any discussion of Islam and politics
and is as crucial today as ever. In his article Islamic Constitutionalism, Said Amir Arjomand describes
three models Muslim societies have taken in attempting to address Islam to secular forms. One
approach, taken by Saudi Arabia and Iran, seeks to implement [t]he vision of the Islamic ideological
state whose primary function was the execution of Divine Law. (Arjomand: 123). The second
approach attempts to bridge Islam and secular modernism by turning the shari a into a theoretical
limitation on government and legislation, as in Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan, which hold the shari a up as
the source of all law but not in any practical sense above the state and its secular forms. (Arjomand:
136). The third variant disowns the myth of the Islamic state and accepts democracy and the legal
modernization of the mid twentieth century, thereby making the principles of the shari a not the source
of all constitutional and ordinary legislation but one constitutional principle that should act as a
limitation to government and legislation . . . alongside other constitutional principles. (Arjomand: 136
137).
In this short paper, I propose to engage with the work of an Islamic legal thinker of the early twentieth
century, Ahmad Safwat, who endeavored to suggest a model for situating traditional Islamic law
within the framework of a modern secular state. My aim in this paper

is accused of adultery displays the scarlet letter A on her chest. Displaying the scarlet letter is
punishment for what she had done, along with the public shaming of course (Hawthorne). Setting

Treatment Of Intravenous Drug Use
Abstract
Intravenous drug use is a dangerous, yet increasing activity around the world. Persons who inject
themselves with illicit drugs are at risk for several complications such as infection caused by

current users of cocaine and heroin were approximately 1.5 million and 289,000 respectively
(Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2014). As the number of intravenous
drug users continues to rise, so does the risk of dangerous and potentially fatal complications that are
associated with illicit drug use. In this population, death rates are higher due to overdose, AIDs related
mortality, and other blood borne viruses (Mathers et al., 2013). Mortality rates remain high even
though precautions have been taken to reduce them. According to Lavender McCarron (2013),
Mortality in injecting drug users is up to 22 times higher than for the age adjusted population, despite
increased provision of needle and syringe programs, reduced needle and syringe sharing, and higher
uptake of hepatitis B vaccination (p. 511).
In addition to higher rates of mortality, intravenous drug users are at increased risk of infection. Mertz,
et al. (2008) stated, Malnutrition, immunodeficiency, homelessness, and needle sharing contribute to a
high infection rate in these patients (p. 2). Common infections range from simple cutaneous abscesses
and cellulitis to more serious infections such as

Essay On Structural Components
The maintenance, restoration and development of structural components, is maybe one of the most
typical problems in construction field applications. In addition, a huge number of structures developed
in the past utilizing the ancient established design codes in various parts of the world are basically
structurally hazardous as indicated to the recent time design codes on the other hand the retrofitting
has become necessary due to the environmental degradation, heavier loading conditions and their life
spans. Therefore, various strengthening techniques are being introduced, historically the structural
components were repaired by post tensioning or jacketing with new concrete in conjunction with a

Diagonal tension failure: This usually occurs in the structural components with considerably less

the only contribution of the concrete strength it also adds on the strength of the internal stirrups and
the longitudinal reinforcement. They are generally initiated from the flexure cracks and the propagated

Shear compression failure: This type of failure of a structure is caused due to the crushing of concrete
at compressive zone above the tip of the shear crack. This is basically observed in structural members
with low web reinforcement but sufficient longitudinal reinforcement. Shear cracks are initiated from
the flexure cracks but do not pass through the compressive region.
Shear tension failure: This type of crack tends to propagate along the main bars due to the secondary
flexure shear crack. In this circumstance the longitudinal reinforcement loses the bond with concrete
due to insufficient anchorage or the concrete cover subsequently leading to the failure.
Web crushing failure: In this type of failure the direct forces are transferred from the loading zone to

About the Key Players in Dennis Carter-Edwards’ article...
Dennis Carter Edwards article The War of 1812 Along the Detroit Frontier: A Canadian Perspective
covers the theme of local history during the 19th century in Detroit. In particular, Carter Edwards
explores the Canadian perspective of the war of 1812 in the Windsor Detroit region. The author
examines three big categories; the measures that the British took to defended the area, the factors that
influenced British decisions, and the power players that played a role on the outcome of the war. The
article is an in depth account of the events and people that were key players in the war, especially in
the Canadian context. To begin, Dennis Carter Edwards is a historian and works for the Ontario
Service Center (Parks Canada); thus this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, Carter Edwards does have a very detailed account of the war of 1812, and it is a
great, useful Canadian source. At the beginning of the text he provides a lot of context before
exploring his arguments. Unfortunately, at other parts of the article, he was lacking context. For
example, when he is introducing the reader to Prevost s enemy, Major General Sir Isaac Brock he
claims, Brock was encouraged by what he found (in Upper Canada) and saw the benefits of providing
some tactical support on the perimeter. In this statement, Carter Edwards leaves the reader wondering
what elements, what things encouraged him to stay in province. In this case, he failed at providing
context, and fully developing his statement. In my opinion, one aspect that could have been beneficial
for his readers would have been to include maps. Carter Edwards mentions many forts such as Fort
Meigs and Fort Stephenson, as well as the road between Sandwich and Fort Amherstburg, and also
mentions places such as Maumee and Sandusky. Although, being from Windsor, I recognized certain
names, I did not know them all. I believe that a map that included all the locations and forts that he
mentions would be a great visual to the article; because, the reader would be able to follow along
better. As well, another feature that would have beneficial to the article would have been the civilian s
voices. He mentions repeatedly that the residence along the riverfront

Pros And Cons Of Search Engine Optimization
What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
In simple words, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be defined as the Do s and Don ts of Search
engines that if followed properly can improve the visibility of your website which will eventually lead
to better sales and promotion of your website, products and services. How?
When you launch a new website it is obvious that you will be among the millions. And among those
thousands that even Google doesn t know about their existence. And a week passes by with just one or
two visitors with zero contribution. It is obvious to get frustrated. But, it is more obvious to have a
question in your mind what other websites are doing so that they are ranking in the first page and what
you did that you got lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When compared with the off web marketing your expenses are very high because you need manpower
to promote and the cost of advertisements are also very high. But, with the growing web surfers
business marketing has become very economical because even the social bookmarking sites like:
www.facebook.com offers your advertisements low cost whereas the features they provide are
enormous. Similarly, it is easy because you can promote your business with a click and completely
reduces your manpower budget.
All of the above listed advantages are worthy only if you rank well in Google and other major search
engines. With poor placement and zero page rank no customers will know your existence in the
internet and there is no question of building goodwill.
Black Hat and White Hat SEO:
Black hat and white SEO is two different stream of SEO which are distinctly different from one
another. Black hat SEO represents those people who are engaged in unethical SEO practices like:
keyword stuffing, link farming and article spinning which can seriously hamper your website and your
online business. Google is found to banned and delist such websites who are engaged in such
practices.
Similarly, white hat SEO is the ethical way of competing in the search engine to gain desired page
rank following the do s and don ts of Google.

The Outcome Of Two Major Railroad Strikes
Identify and describe the outcome of two major Railroad Strikes. The two major Railroad Strikes were
the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and Railroad Shop workers Strike of 1922. The Great Railroad
Strike of 1877, was due to workers not being happy about the pay cuts that were being made by their
employer so often. Northern Railroads began cutting salaries and wages. Because of various railroads
cutting wages by 10% back to back, workers were not willing to continue working under those
conditions. Not only were the wages of the workers being cut, the amount work of work given to the
employees increased and the employer did not hire additional workers. This then caused railroad
employees to respond by taking control of the rail yard switches, and blocking movement of trains.
Throughout various cities such as Baltimore, Pittsburg, St. Louise, and Chicago, Violent acts began to
occur. Many people died throughout the cities. The strike cause the country s commerce to become
paralyzed and pushed governors in different states to utilize militia members to reopen rail traffic.
This action also helped set the stage for violence that would occur later in the 1880s and 1890s. The
Railroad Shop Workers Strike of 1922 affected everyone in the country. This strike occurred because
of the pay cut of seven cents to the wages of the railroad workers. Approximately 400,000 rail shop
workers from various unions were on strike because the cut was announced by the railroad labor
board. When

Analysis Of The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk is a fiction movie released on June 8, 2008. The movie was produced by Marvel
Studios and Valhalla Motion Pictures. The film took place mostly in Toronto, Canada. The director of
the movie is Louis Leterrier. The movie is about a person named Bruce Banner who transforms into a
beast called the Hulk, a huge green monster with a muscular body. The transformation is caused by a
disease that contaminated Banner s cells. The transformation happens whenever Banner gets angry.
However, the anger goes away when the Hulk sees that there is no danger around him. The anger goes
away whenever his love, Betty Ross touches him. Banner searches the world to find a cure for his
disease, but the military keeps blocking his way because they want his power to create an army just
like the Hulk. New threats appear trying to use the masculinity in order to achieve whatever needed. In
addition, the Hulk faces his nemesis called The Abomination. It is also a green monster that literally
has similar powers as the Hulk. The Hulk character embodies a larger tension with our culture s
relation to masculinity. On one hand, it condemns the destruction and violence associated with
masculinity, and on the other, it celebrates it. The film can be viewed as having mixed messages for
boys because it provides unrealistic masculinity that represents good and bad manners.

Theodore Roosevelt s The Duties of American Citizenship Speech
Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States of America. He is noted for his
enthusiastic personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Progressive
Movement. Before becoming President, he held offices at the city, state, and federal levels. Roosevelt
s achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much a part of his fame as
any office he held as a politician. On January 26, 1883 in Buffalo, New York Roosevelt delivered a

The good citizen will education his family and his community by being a role model and preforming
his civic duties. Roosevelt shapes his ideas of citizenship around how a man treats the people around
him which impacts the entire community. Roosevelt s ideal citizen focuses more on the lived
experience of a man and his actions in community which reflect on public engagement. President
Roosevelt focuses more on the individual person and he gives examples of how a good citizen should
be because that one person has the power to impact more than just his self. Roosevelt says, In a free
republic the ideal citizen must be one willing and able to take arms for the defense of the flag, exactly
as the ideal citizen must be the father of many healthy children. Although the same expectations are
felt in Roosevelt s time and today, Roosevelt puts more emphasis on it because the educational
advantages are present. President Roosevelt believes a good citizen with strong moral character will
raise strong children and teach them the values he was taught. He says, A race must be strong and
vigorous; it must be a race of good fighters and good breeders, else its wisdom will come to naught
and its virtue be ineffective. President Roosevelt is saying without the teachings of good citizenship in
the home, future generations will lose the true meaning of citizenship. All of Roosevelt s

What Is The Theme Of Foreign By Carol Ann Duffy
Foreign, written by Carol Ann Duffy, is a poem depicting the perspective of an immigrant worker who
lives in unfamiliar surroundings and narrates their experiences. In this dramatic monologue, Duffy
uses language and themes in effective ways that allow readers to interpret the different themes and
ideas to highlight the persona s sense of confusion, feelings, nostalgia, and many more. Through the
use of literary devices, regular structure and varied tones throughout the poem, the author presents
strong themes that can be related to the audience as well as to gain sympathy to the narrator.
In the beginning of Foreign , the persona immediately establish a setting for the readers to be part of.

The narrator describes his scenario and the memories that he has faced during his time in the dismal
dwellings in [the] strange, dark city (Stanza 1, Line 1/2). The narrator describes both the readers and
their own agendas, where both would use the public transport. Work. Sleep. (Stanza 3, Line 1) The
author uses caesura effectively in the first sentence because she is intentionally breaking the flow of
the text to add a new form of perspective. In hindsight, all readers do in fact use a mode of transport,
work, then sleep. It is a cycle that should somehow be broken or taken aware of, so that our lives can
be significant rather than a copy of everybody else. Continuing on, the stanza goes through a deeper
theme of prejudice and discrimination against those who are foreign, such as the persona themselves,
as they describe the imaginative sight of seeing a name for yourself sprayed in red / against a brick
wall. A hate name. Red like blood. (Stanza 3, Line 2/3) This can be interpreted in different ways, once
again, where either this is what the narrator thinks of himself in the strange city of the unknown. An
outcast, marked by a name written in blood, or this is the narrator telling the audience directly what he
has witnessed, and everything is slowly collapsing as if this place were coming to bits before your
eyes. (Stanza

Sex Segregation in the U.S. Work Force
This research paper focuses on the gender differences that take part in the U.S. workforce. It discusses
the manner in which men and women are subtly segregated. We refuse to believe that discrimination
as such continues to exist in the 21st century, yet it s the ugly truth. A gender gap is created due to
differences in authority, pay, and promotion. Research shows us that economic variations exist and,
through past cases we see that even though it has been twenty five years that Title VII has passed;
segregation ceases to exist. Coined by Hymowitz and Schellhardt in the Wall Street Journal more than
twenty years ago, the barriers women face in the workplace earned the term glass ceiling, continues to
exist in U.S. labor. It is important to draw attention to this problem, because it stands as a prevalent
issue as women strive for equal success as men, yet are held back.
Have you ever stopped to consider why such drawbacks prevail in our society? Most wish to believe it
s due to women playing dual roles as mothers and full time employees. Others believe that it s a mere
coincidence, and that segregation no longer takes a role in our world. From a young age, gender
segregation is inculcated beyond our notice. Boys wear blue and girls wear pink. Boys play with cars,
guns, and video games, while girls play with dolls, make up, and have tea parties. This inception of

Babbitt Vs. Sweet Home Case Study
The public policy of the ESA had multiple issues in the case of Babbitt v. Sweet Home Chapter. There
have been legislative issues between the ESA and Congress in regards to the inconsistency of
authority (Jennings, 2010). In addition, the lack of communication between Congress and the FWA
caused discrepancies on how to best protect the habitat (Jennings, 2010). The public policy also has
issues on an economic standpoint due to the cost of resources on the basis to support the ESA or
abolish the Act (Sahr, n.d.).
The argument of the people to recover and preserve endangered species was in fact to keep the ESA
policy. According to Sahr (n.d.) the ESA has been effective with the Act of protecting endangered

Scenario Between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie, And Patice
Scenario Explained
The scenario between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie and Doris is a classic issue of offer and acceptance.
These are two elements of a valid contract. The scenario also raises its potential of being an invitation
to treat as this is a stark contrast to that of an offer. That is, we must consider whether the notice
placed on the car constitutes a valid offer or if it was a mere invitation to treat. If this notice does
amount to a valid offer where Arnold outlines the terms and conditions (the price at which he was
willing to sell and his telephone number) by which he is willing to be legally bound we must look at
the possible issues that may arise and what possible steps Arnold can take to deal with his situation.
Arnold appears to be the principal party who makes definite terms pertaining to the sale of his car,
from this we can conclude that the notice placed on his cars does in fact demonstrate a clear intent to
be legally bound. This is a unilateral offer where Arnold outlined the terms and condition to which he
is willing to be legally bound, he is inviting the public to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Implicit Gender Bias Essay Implicit Gender Bias and Women in STEM Fields Most people consider themselves as rational, reasoning individuals who make decisions after considering the facts at hand. Research suggests that this is often not the case, with implicit bias at work shaping one s responses. Researchers at Cornell University have defined implicit bias as unconscious, unintentional bias (Royer, Hido Slotnick, 2017). Predictors of implicit bias include socio economic status, gender, ethnicity, childhood experience, and cultural experience (Cooley, Payne Phillips, 2013). Unlike explicit bias which reflects attitudes or beliefs that one endorses on a conscious level, implicit bias refers to attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions and decisions in an unconscious manner resulting from subtle cognitive processes that often operate at a level below conscious awareness and without intentional control (Gyan, n.d.). Of these, implicit gender bias affects the health and social wellbeing of women, as well as disadvantages women economically and in the workplace. As such implicit gender bias is endemic within the scientific, technological, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and this bias can disadvantage women pursing these careers (Moss Racusin, Dovidio, Brescoll, Graham Handelsman, 2012). The importance of further study of mitigating interventions of this implicit gender bias is clear. Our hypothesis is that implicit gender bias related to women in STEM fields will ... • 5. USA s Copyright Law Copyright Law 1. Copyright law offers copyright holders the exclusive right to reproduce, distribute, and publicly perform copyrighted work (Carnes). The copyright holder has the authority to govern how the copyrighted material is distributed by giving specific permissions in writing. Without a specific written permission, no one has the rights to distribute or sell the copyrighted work. By selling collections that contain the whole program of the copyrighted material, Software of the Month Club (SOMC) is selling the copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder, Cybersell Impact, Inc. The claim of endorsing and distributing the shareware as performing a service for the creators infringes the copyright law because of the distributions of the whole program. The copyright laws allow a small portion of copyrighted material to be used for socially beneficial purposes, but not the whole program. And, there was a restriction on the distribution that allowed the sample portion to be distributed without charge to users. The actual charging of the software and the fact of the whole program being distributed violated the copyright laws and the restriction of the copyright holder. The behavior that is being encouraged by the copyright laws and the judges in this case is to treat each other fair and with respect. If the copyright holder gives permission, then it is ok to distribute and sell, depending on what is actually granted in the written permission. By not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Rhetorical Strategies Of John Humhryss Rough Draft How does Humphry s use rhetorical strategies to persuade his readers? Introduction John Humphrys is very irritated that the writing he knows is been spoiled by people who are using slag and abbreviations when communicating. He believes that writing has been wrecked in a huge manner as all that he though was right is now not considered in writing. He is also afraid that even in some areas where he thought that writing should be official and all the rules followed, a lot of the texting slag is used. As he states, people use the abbreviations to take care of time and use the shortest time possible to communicate. But instead this is not true since there are a big percentage of people who take time to understand the meaning of the abbreviations but some even fail to understand the meaning or misinterpret them after they have wasted a lot of time. Therefore Humphrys is determined to convincing people that texting has affected the proper way of writing. John Humphrys used the different strategies of rhetorical persuasion to persuade his audience and make it believe that what he is arguing about is true. Ethos This is an appeal dealing with ethics, (Charland et al, 2017). It is a way in which a person is convinced of the credibility or the character of the persuader. John Humphrys uses ethos to convince his audience by expressing how he is credible and how he is well informed on the subject matter. Guided by this observation she made the steps so that her sons could be multilingual. Unfortunately, she only reached its goal in half. Her older son attended a Polish school learning the rules of grammar and spelling of the Polish language, therefore, he achieved fluency and the ability to write and read in Polish. Chrysalids Rebellion Quotes Chrysalids essay Kaden I think the author added rebellion of culture as a theme because we re so used to following our ways and not rebelling against culture and it mixes us up from what we re used too and intrigues us. I think the author hints that rebelling is acceptable in the novel so that we think about it and decide if it actually is. In the chrysalids rebellion happens because if a person is being harmed or discriminated in an unfair manner they are allowed to rebel. He thinks rebellion is ok because maybe a deviation could be helpful, for example David and his friends could talk without speaking. In low income, primarily black neighborhoods, this is especially prevalent. The cost of living has greatly increased in urban areas like Milwaukee, but government benefits are staying the same, creating a gap that cannot be easily filled. Because of this, many black women with children have to pick between feeding their families and paying their bills, like rent, gas, and water. These children are also more likely to have learning difficulties, as well as the behavioral, social, and emotional problems that come with being raised in a low income household ( Child Development ). So why don t these poor, black women just get help? Because they don t qualify for assistance, or they simply can t wait around that long to receive it. Wait times for public housing can range from 1 2 years to upwards of 10, and after going through all of the paperwork and legal trouble, only 25% of families who qualify for public housing ever receive it; the rest are struggling along in the private market, being refused housing by dozens of landlords. • 19. Islamic Law And Islamic Politics The role of Islamic law in the modern secular state is central to any discussion of Islam and politics and is as crucial today as ever. In his article Islamic Constitutionalism, Said Amir Arjomand describes three models Muslim societies have taken in attempting to address Islam to secular forms. One approach, taken by Saudi Arabia and Iran, seeks to implement [t]he vision of the Islamic ideological state whose primary function was the execution of Divine Law. (Arjomand: 123). The second approach attempts to bridge Islam and secular modernism by turning the shari a into a theoretical limitation on government and legislation, as in Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan, which hold the shari a up as the source of all law but not in any practical sense above the state and its secular forms. (Arjomand: 136). The third variant disowns the myth of the Islamic state and accepts democracy and the legal modernization of the mid twentieth century, thereby making the principles of the shari a not the source of all constitutional and ordinary legislation but one constitutional principle that should act as a limitation to government and legislation . . . alongside other constitutional principles. (Arjomand: 136 137). The two major Railroad Strikes were the Great Railroad Strike of 1877 and Railroad Shop workers Strike of 1922. The Great Railroad Strike of 1877, was due to workers not being happy about the pay cuts that were being made by their employer so often. Northern Railroads began cutting salaries and wages. Because of various railroads cutting wages by 10% back to back, workers were not willing to continue working under those conditions. • 35. What Is The Theme Of Foreign By Carol Ann Duffy Foreign, written by Carol Ann Duffy, is a poem depicting the perspective of an immigrant worker who lives in unfamiliar surroundings and narrates their experiences. In this dramatic monologue, Duffy uses language and themes in effective ways that allow readers to interpret the different themes and ideas to highlight the persona s sense of confusion, feelings, nostalgia, and many more. Through the use of literary devices, regular structure and varied tones throughout the poem, the author presents strong themes that can be related to the audience as well as to gain sympathy to the narrator. The narrator describes his scenario and the memories that he has faced during his time in the dismal dwellings in [the] strange, dark city (Stanza 1, Line 1/2). The narrator describes both the readers and their own agendas, where both would use the public transport. Work. Sleep. (Stanza 3, Line 1) The author uses caesura effectively in the first sentence because she is intentionally breaking the flow of the text to add a new form of perspective. In hindsight, all readers do in fact use a mode of transport, work, then sleep. It is a cycle that should somehow be broken or taken aware of, so that our lives can be significant rather than a copy of everybody else. Continuing on, the stanza goes through a deeper theme of prejudice and discrimination against those who are foreign, such as the persona themselves, as they describe the imaginative sight of seeing a name for yourself sprayed in red / against a brick wall. A hate name. Red like blood. (Stanza 3, Line 2/3) This can be interpreted in different ways, once again, where either this is what the narrator thinks of himself in the strange city of the unknown. An outcast, marked by a name written in blood, or this is the narrator telling the audience directly what he has witnessed, and everything is slowly collapsing as if this place were coming to bits before your eyes. The Gender Differences Of The United States Work Force Nona Mitoyan Professor Darin English 101 November 30, 2014 Sex Segregation in the U.S. Work Force This research paper focuses on the gender differences that take part in the U.S. workforce. It discusses the manner in which men and women are subtly segregated. We refuse to believe that discrimination as such continues to exist in the 21st century, yet it s the ugly truth. A gender gap is created due to differences in authority, pay, and promotion. Research shows us that economic variations exist and, through past cases we see that even though it has been twenty five years that Title VII has passed; segregation ceases to exist. Coined by Hymowitz and Schellhardt in the Wall Street Journal more than twenty years ago, the barriers women face in the workplace earned the term glass ceiling, continues to exist in U.S. labor. It is important to draw attention to this problem, because it stands as a prevalent issue as women strive for equal success as men, yet are held back. Have you ever stopped to consider why such drawbacks prevail in our society? Most wish to believe it s due to women playing dual roles as mothers and full time employees. Others believe that it s a mere coincidence, and that segregation no longer takes a role in our world. From a young age, gender segregation is inculcated beyond our notice. Boys wear blue and girls wear pink. Boys play with cars, guns, and video games, while girls play with dolls, make up, and have tea parties. This inception of gender ... • 39. Scenario Between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie, And Patice Scenario Explained The scenario between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie and Doris is a classic issue of offer and acceptance. These are two elements of a valid contract. The scenario also raises its potential of being an invitation to treat as this is a stark contrast to that of an offer. That is, we must consider whether the notice placed on the car constitutes a valid offer or if it was a mere invitation to treat. If this notice does amount to a valid offer where Arnold outlines the terms and conditions (the price at which he was willing to sell and his telephone number) by which he is willing to be legally bound we must look at the possible issues that may arise and what possible steps Arnold can take to deal with his situation. Arnold appears to be the principal party who makes definite terms pertaining to the sale of his car, from this we can conclude that the notice placed on his cars does in fact demonstrate a clear intent to be legally bound.
