with the line of Marlon Brando s: I could have been a contender. I knew, even before watching the
film, that Brando played an ex boxer with broken dreams. I also knew that the film had been made
during the McCarthy era, around the time of the red scare. In the film, Brando s character Terry
Malloy witnesses a murder, and is encouraged to turn in the perpetrators, even though his union bosses
are involved. The film portrays the dockworker Malloy s decision to come forward as a heroic one,
partially rooted in his love for the dead man s sister Edie. (Edie s brother was killed for the same

Recapping his roles before the presidency, once the war ended, Truman got discharged from the army
and then went to attend Kansas City school of law. This is when he was on the road to becoming
president. In 1933 Franklin d Roosevelt was elected 32nd president. Harry S. got elected presiding
judge of the Jackson County Court and then was sworn in. He served two four year terms through
1934 as a judge. During this time Harry Truman became a U.S. senator by 1935. On August 31, 1944

Milton Friedman bases his opinion on businesses and profit maximization on the foundation of free
enterprise. The free market theory believes that business managers have only one primary
responsibility, which is to maximize profit; also, the theory tells that government should not involve in
economic matters, except to prevent fraud and coercion (p. 7) Mr. Friedman argues that a corporation,
unlike a person, cannot have responsibility. I disagree with this notion. I don t think that anyone would
