The World Bank s Support For The Construction Of The Nam...
A World Bank Failure
This paper explores the World Bank s support for the construction of the Nam Theun 2 Dam, located
in the Lao People s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), in Southeast Asia. The problems created by this
project are examined along with the question of whether or not international financial institutions
(IFI), such as the World Bank (herein after referred to as
the Bank ) are able to provide assistance in an objective, unbiased and responsible manner.
Nam Theun 2 Dam
Project Overview
Completed in 2010, the Nam Theun 2 Dam (herein after referred to as NT2 ), is a 1070 Megawatt
hydroelectric dam located on the Nam Theun River in central Lao PDR. Tokyo based Mekong Watch,
a non governmental organization (NGO), estimates NT2 s cost at US$1.45 billion, one of the largest
public works projects in Lao PDR s history. The dam flooded a 450 square kilometer area, creating the
Nakai Plateau reservoir. A principle component of the project included selling ninety to ninety five
percent of NT2 s electrical power to neighboring Thailand (2013).
Project Goals
In 2006, The World Bank Group s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), reported that
the average daily income of Lao PDR citizens was less than US$1, lower in rural areas, and that
limited options existed for generating income. At that time, MIGA projected that the NT2 would
generate close to US$1.9 billion in foreign exchange earnings over the dam s twenty five year lifespan
(through the export of

Role Strain Vs Role Conflict
When looking at society introspectively, it is evident that it functions on hierarchies. Social status can
be defined as the level of prestige or relevance one possesses in society, while a status set is an
assortment of responsibilities which stem directly from one s standing in society. Although each one
occupies a certain position in society, one factor or position is paramount to the other, which is
referred to as the master status(Steckley,2014). Meanwhile, social roles are obligations associated with
a particular status, while a role set is a compilation of roles relevant to a particular status. In regards to
roles, certain issues may arise which are known as role strain, and role conflict. A Role strain arises
when two or more roles create direct conflict pertaining to a particular status (Steckley, 2014).
Although similar to a role strain, role conflict differs as it is the rigidity of requirements expected
between multiple statuses (Steckley, 2014). After establishing the definition of a status, it can be
further condensed into two categories; ascribed and achieved. An ascribed status is what an individual
inherits from birth or uncontrolled, whereas an achieved status is a ... Show more content on

How Does Climate Change Affect A Fish
Climate Change Affects The Populations of the North American Fish
The global climate change is affecting the fish populations and communities and changing the
freshwater ecosystems in North America and Canada, according to four new studies.
The studies were printed in a special issue of Fisheries magazine this week, published by the
American Fisheries Society. The scientists observed different changes in how inland fish reproduce,
grow and where they can live.
Doug Austen, Executive Director of the American Fisheries Society and the publisher of Fisheries
magazine gave thanks to this synthesis. He further said that they can see the effects of climate change
on inland fish and they are no longer a speculation. He added that they can now begin

A Woman Must Find the Courage to Do What s Right in Oasis
Ebony Bellamy
If a stranger needed your help, would you sacrifice everything to save them? Or, would you avoid
getting involved and hope they figure things out on their own? This is precisely the inner struggle the
main character in Oasis deals with after making a disturbing discovery in an apartment.
Set in an old apartment building that is currently being renovated, Nieves has recently lost her
husband and is being threatened with eviction. With no place to go, she tries to convince her landlord
to let her have her husband s old job of cleaning and fixing things within the building. Hesitant to give
her the job because he feels it s meant for a man, he finally agrees. This job allows her to keep her
apartment but it also tests her morality and ability to speak up when someone is in trouble.
One day while cleaning a vacant apartment, a tenant comes to her complaining about roaches in her
apartment. The tenant believes they re coming from the apartment above hers. So, Nieves goes to that
apartment to spray chemicals to kill the roaches. But when she enters the apartment, she doesn t find
any bugs. She ends up finding a young girl locked in a room. Mortified by her find, she exits the
apartment and tells her boss about the girl. Angry she entered the apartment without his consent, he
tells her the girl isn t her problem and to focus on doing her job.

Imagery In Devil In The White City
In the nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson uses Imagery, dark tone, and
oxymorons to portray H. H. Holmes, whose point of view is half of the story, as the Devil incarnate:
evil and subhuman. Larson utilizes imagery to exemplify Holmes character and actions to the
audience. He describes Holmes reaction to a friend s sister s death to give the reader an idea of the
cold inhumanity he possesed. Even though Holmes told Ned how sorry he was about her passing, yet
in his eyes there was only a flat blue calm like that of a lake on a still August morning (123). Larson
presents this imagery to give the reader a clear view of Holmes point of view on death. When he reacts
with such a flat blue calm, the reader can clearly see that he did not posses even the slightest bit of
sincerity. This serves to help the reader see the surface, and allude to what lies beneath. Larson further
proves his inhumanity with the portrayal of Holmes murder of his pregnant fiancée, Julia. Holmes
promised he would marry her, but with the condition that she had to allow him to execute an abortion.
He then held the cloth coated in chloroform over her nose and mouth and within seconds her eyes
fluttered and rolled upwards followed by the inevitable, reflexive disturbance of muscles, like a dream
of running (148). Larson uses words like flutter and rolled to show the reader that her consciousness
fled from her with no objection from her being noted. This is to

Virtual Organization Behavior
Virtual Organization Characteristics
From the definitions of virtual organization/team, it can be summarized that virtual organization/team
has four main characteristics which make it different from non virtual organization/team:
First, cross line, virtual organization/team is centralized with a few or without department. Business
environment change makes a company or organization should be more flexible in doing its activity.
When a company should produce a high quality product to meet their consumer needs, they could
collaborate with other companies to determine consumer needs. In this case, virtual organization/team
has an important role.
Second, resources and purpose sharing, virtual organization/team could facilitate someone with
innovative idea but has not enough resources. Amazon sells a lot of books but they do not really have
the books, they cooperate with other parties who have the books and then sell it via Amazon.
Third, geographic dispersion, refer to any physical dispersion of team members, such as different
geographic locations or different workplaces at the same geographic location, nationally or
internationally. Virtual organization/team could maximize the time difference advantage from its
member. When a US company develops a website they can work on it from morning to evening, and
their partner in the other part of the world (Asia, Africa, or Europe) will continue the development so
it could finished faster.
Fourth, impermanent member, one team formed

Ky-Nos Castle Analysis
The Hauntings of Craig Y Nos Castle in Wales
By Claire Barrand
Craig Y Nos Castle which in Welsh, means Rock of the Night, Maintains a reputation as the Most
Haunted Castle in Wales, having been visited by Most Haunted, alongside numerous other TV shows
which have also filmed at the castle. My sister Linzi and I have investigated this location together
twice and have not been disappointed, in fact, we would have to say this location is in our top three for
paranormal activity!
The Early Years
The history itself is epic enough to inspire a Hollywood feature film. The story begins in 1840 when
the neo gothic castle, set beside the River Tawe on the edge of the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, was
built by an ambitious Captain Rice Davies. Using local limestone to form the impressive structure he
got carried away with turrets and pyramids and ran out of money being unable to complete the north
wing before moving in in 1843 to begin his life as a country gentleman.
Davies became a county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. However, rumours of a curse on
the family spread as misfortune fell upon the family when his younger son died of cholera in 1851,
and he lost both his wife and his daughter to illness before he died in 1862.
Two years later, his Davies son died in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah, the eldest
daughter, and her husband Captain Allaway lived at the castle after his death, until disaster struck once
more and the Captain also died a few years later. His widow relocated to Tenby, and the property sold
in 1875 76, purchased by the Morgan family of Abercrave for £6000.
The Adelina Patti Years
In 1878, the castle and its setting attracted the attentions of the leading opera star of that day Italian
Adelina Patti, who announced that she had found the home of her dreams and an offer of £3500
accepted for the castle and surrounding parkland.
A demanding soprano with a colourful private life, she was said to have had numerous affairs
including one with the tenor Mario. The prima donna was the at the peak of her spectacular career and
desired to spend the rest of her life at Craig y nos. She built an incredible private theatre which held
150 people in which she entertained her

Dred Scott V. Sandford Summary
The Dred Scott v. Sandford case is regarding a slave in Missouri, his name was Dred Scott who
resided in Illinois from the years 1833 to 1843. Illinois was considered to be a free state at this time,
he lived in an area of the Louisiana Territory, this was a place where slavery was completely forbidden
from the Missouri Compromise in 1830. Eventually Scott returned to Missouri, after doing so he
decided to sue the Missouri court for his freedom, he was unsuccessful. His argument was that he
claimed residency in a free territory area and this would make him a free man. Since this did not work
Scott brought a new suit in federal court. But Scott s master maintained that since he was a pure

Throughout the history of the United States, the military is usually employed to suppress insurrection
and rebellion, to enforce the law as well as perform many other duties of the Federation, state and
local affairs. While support to the nations is usually overshadowed by the high profile duty of
detracting it, military support is a vital mission which still continues to grow as alluded to by the
number of domestic problems to which the Department of Defense (DOD) has responded to in past
years (Grange Johnson 1997, p.108). The U.S has acknowledged and prepared for terrorist attacks for

London police departments had to coordinate fatalities from the four different bomb locations. The pre
planned autopsy arrangements were effective, but the process of body identification was too long;
numerous families and relatives of victims have gone through profound distress due to the lack of
objective information about the exact victims and survivors of the critical incident. The bombings
have led to the creation of a new critical incident plan. The plan could be coordinated at the
international level. London bombings have led to realization of potential threats and hazards, and
unresolved safety issues. London bombings have become a real life test for the pre prepared critical
incident plans earlier developed by emergency professionals.
Oklahoma City Bombings 1995 Oklahoma City Bombings were as unexpected as critical incidents in
London later in 2005. In distinction from London, Oklahoma did not place communications to the

controlled perimeter was created around the dangerous site (The Oklahoma Department of Civil
Emergency Management, 1995). Casualty Bureau has accepted and processed critical amount of

Using A Different Setup Than A Standard Linear Optical System
Using a different setup than a standard linear optical system, [SOURCE]Choi et al. are able to use
trapped ions as qubits in an optical quantum computer. As a direct result, unique possibilities for
addressing scalability issues are discovered. Since trapped ions already have fundamentally low levels
of coherent error, suppression of that error in a scaled quantum computer requires significantly less
error correction. Also, the group demonstrates an architecture in which more than two entangled
qubits could be addressed simultaneously, further expanding the possibility of scaling. Some research
indicates that linear optical systems could contain unexplored features that would greatly increase the
feasibility of scalability for quantum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Properties like this make working with double donor systems much easier. Still, some of the end
results of experiments using single dot schemes have advanced quantum computing in general, via a
combination of multiple schemes. An article by Calderón et al., in tandem with other previous
experiments that allow for coherence times near a second, provide a possible solution to avoiding
coherent error. The use of a single electron donor for isolated qubits has one interesting result:
Calderón describes the unique state when he says if they form a triplet, selection rules imply a much
longer lived state. This unique situation does not come as a result of double donors, only single. By
using only single dot triplets, it might be possible to combine the system with others because of its
abnormally long coherence time and high accuracy. As discussed, the use of single dot architecture
could be combined in unique ways with linear optical schemes. [SOURCE] Economou et al. support
this idea, stating [s]pins...have received a great deal of attention because they interact strongly with
light and provide the opportunity for ultrafast all optical implementation of logical operations. While
the negative implications of that statement, especially in decoherence caused by environmental
interaction, have been discussed, there are many potential benefits as well. Foremost among these is

Cancer Cell Essay
Breaking away: cancer cell dissemination and survival in the periphery
Once the primary tumor gains the capacity to evade host immune system and cancer cells enter the
circulation, metastatic dissemination takes place. Before metastatic dissemination, the prematastatic
niches are primed. Cell types which earlier were recruited to destroy cancer now facilitate in tumor
progression(Fig. 2). TME supports cancer cells in leaving the primary tumor site seeding in secondary
organs.
In the primary tumor one of the initial steps was EMT, during which tumor cells lose epithelial
markers and gain mesenchymal traits that confer stem like properties and a migratory phenotype. But
in secondary site, cancer cells show phenotypic switching, i.e., ... Show more content on

Hypoxia takes place in the tumor core due to deficiency of oxygen. Hypoxia mediates immune cell
recruitment (eg.; Lymphocytes in colorectal cancer) and concentrates them at the tumor periphery to
support cancer invasion at the leading edge. Hypoxia in the tumor core leads to aggressive selection
pressure for resilient stem like tumor cells due to which these cells migrate to the periphery of the
tumor.
2.3INTRAVASATION
According to Paget s hypothesis of seed and soil , cancer cells (seed) gradually acquire mutations in
oncogenes or tumour suppressor genes that confer the ability to intravasate, survive in the
haematogenous or lymphatic circulation, and prosper in a distant site (soil). This soil would have
characteristics that allow the metastatic cell to adhere and proliferate. In humans, certain tumours
metastasize to specific organ sites. For example, breast cancers metastasize to lung, liver, bone and
brain; melanoma to liver, brain and skin. By contrast, some tumors like glioma do not metastasize,
instead migrate along white matter tracks, others such as ovarian tumours are restricted to the
peritoneal cavity. Some others such as head and neck cancers only spread to regional lymph nodes.
The molecular bases of these differences are poorly if at all understood, but probably have a
microenvironmental component. Recent studies mention about the power of transcriptome profiling to
identify cohorts of genes of which

M1 Team Roles and strategic planning

business. I will also be looking at what roles I took on during the KS5 Preparations Evening, how
roles complement each other and what roles are essential for a high achieving team. I will also be
looking into strategic planning, the strategic plans of *Blank* and how our team helped to meet these.
Introduction and comparison of different team roles

Belbin. This theory suggests the roles needed in order to create the perfect high achieving team.
Within each role there are some overlap of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Rose For Emily By William Faulkner
In A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, Faulkner conveys the issue of involving trying to maintain
traditional values and control in a society that is facing a change that is radical and widespread. In this
story, Emily is seen as timeless figure that contradicts a society that is trying to build up a more
efficient, modern lifestyle.
Miss Emily is portrayed as a women who resents change and responds uncomfortably to any force that
tries to change her inhibitions. Her house is a portrait of her mindset with the leather covered furniture
being described as cracked , and the pillow on which the townspeople found her dead body was
yellow and moldy with age and lack of sunlight (par.55). Instead of replacing the furniture with newer
polished one, she chooses to use her dark and dusty home as shield from the modern transformation of
the town.
Miss Emily s refusal to change causes her several disagreements with the local government and law
enforcement. Her rejection to the multiple tax notices causes a burden with the newer generation as
they are unfamiliar with Miss Emily s way of law and conduct. This is privy to Miss Emily s position
as well, as she is unfamiliar with the current change in the local power as she is steadfast in her
reprisal of Colonel Sartoris s conduct, unknowledgable (or unwilling to accept) his death ten years
before. Some characters are sympathetic, and still respectful to her position in the town as show with
Judge Stevens. He concedes to the

Gentrification And Displacement Essay
Gentrification and displacement is not talked about as much as other social problems. Gentrification
happens when rich people come to urban communities and change the socioeconomic and cultural
characteristics of a community. Gentrification around the world is mainly happening in poor urban
communities. The comparison of the Netherlands, London and Vancouver will explain cultural, social,
and political displacement caused by the new age of urban renewal. Big corporations build up urban
communities which bring economic stability to neighborhoods, and the low income residents are
forced out. With an increase in social economic input into the community rent is increased, food cost

Gentrification is a problem that every country and city has experience rather they know it or not.
Countries are affected by this process and many of its civilians are left with nowhere to call their
home. Communities where they once lived turn into places they ve never seen before. To be forced out
of their own communities is only hurting the economic system of that city and/or country. The people
that are being displaced are minorities and being forced out their community is killing their cultural.
The residents will not be able to raise their children the same way they were brought up. For example,
going outside and playing with the neighborhood children. The minorities that are getting kicked out
will not able to stick together as a whole when moving to a different location. Each resident might
move to different countries or cities as a final resort where prices of rent or mortgage will be lower.
Some solutions that countries can use to limit or exterminate gentrification together would be; helping
the poor residents through government assistances. Some residents do not have the proper income to
continue living in the communities once the government or other companies step in and attempt to
renovate the community. Another solution to this social problem would be if the government was
more involved in helping the residents that are forced out to find better housing or something similar

Marco Polo Dangers
Writing Assignment 2
Marco Polo, Description of the World
1. What were the dangers for travelers along this portion of the Silk Road?
The dangers were the climate conditions. When traveling through the desert, it was dry and hot and
without water for long periods of time. Not even birds or beasts would be in those areas because there
were no sources for food or water. Due to the lack of food and water, the travelers that passed through
the desert would experience hallucinations. There was also chances of being attacked and robbed by
bandits.
2. Despite the dangers, what made the journey possible and even bearable?
When hostile armies passed through the country, families would go on a two to three day journey
through the desert. The journey was made possible and even bearable by the towns and cities that
inhabited the road. Towards the edge of the desert was the province of Kamul, where the inhabitants
live off their produce and are also very happy. They sang and played music and danced. Travelers
were able to stop to rest and restock on their supplies for their journey. It was also a place of trade and
industry, and were not warlike.
3. Why did people inhabit towns and cities along this route?

The Milky Way
Introduction
Our galaxy, The Milky Way, is composed of billion of stars of all ages, sizes and masses. A common
stars, like our Sun, constantly gives out small amounts of X ray radiation, and larger burst of X rays
during a solar flare. Along with our Sun, stars shine as a result of nuclear reaction that happens deep
within their core. Causing chemical reactions that converts light elements into heavier ones and while
releasing energy in the process. Energy from the central region provides pressure to keep the star from
falling apart under its own weight. The contracting cloud is then called a protostar. A protostar is the
earliest stage of a star s life. A star is born when the gas and dust from a nebula become so hot that
nuclear fusion starts. Once a star has turned on it is known as a main sequence star. When a main
sequence star begins to run out of hydrogen fuel, the star becomes a red giant or a red supergiant.
The Birth of Star (Nebulas)
All stars start as a nebula. Nebulas are large clouds of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases.
Gravity then might pull the gas and dust in a nebula together. In example of this is the Orion Nebula,
which was located in excellent detail by NASA s Hubble Space Telescope and Spitzer Space
Telescope. A protostar is formed from the contracting clouds deep within these clouds that gives rise
to knots with sufficient mass that the gas and dust can begin to collapse under its own gravitational
attraction (NASA, para.4). As

The Assessment Of Formative Assessment
Formative Assessment
Formative assessment is often embedded at intervals the academic method. However maybe useful
thanks to formative assessment is that it s given throughout instruction. Formative assessment
confirms what, wants or topics have to be compelled to be addressed next with a student. A formative
assessment not solely includes tests associate degreed schoolwork however also can be an interactive
method within the classroom. As an example, open discussions within the learning environment. Open
class discussions can provide the educator with input on student s math learning and development.
Such as Examination, examination shows that descriptive feedback is a valuable element of the
formative assessment method. Stating to youngsters what specifically they did well, together with
links to different resources and specific suggestions for improvement, will facilitate them reach
consecutive level of learning. (The State of Queensland [Department of Education and Training],
2016).
There are three approaches to formative assessments:
Planning: sorting out wherever the students square measure at, in order that the teacher will begin at
an acceptable place, sorting out however this explicit cluster of student s best learn.
Student feedback: thus student s acumen they re progressing through the educational method. Express
feedback from the teacher will give info on what the student is doing that s effective and also the next
step within the learning method.

Friar Lawrence Innocent Essay
Many believe that Friar Lawrence is innocent because he had good intentions and did what he deemed
necessary when helping Romeo and Juliet, however, good intentions do not always correspond to
appropriate actions. Friar assists the lovers on numerous occasions and even marries them. Friar states
after agreeing to marry Romeo and Juliet, For this alliance may so happy prove/ To turn your
households rancor to pure love (Shakespeare.II.iii.91 92). The phrase alliance may so happy prove

Friar, moreover, is innocent because he just wants the best for the lovers and their families, and his
actions are guided by good intentions. Intentions are vital when considering a character s innocence or
guilt because accidents can happen and they should be judged by intentions, not the result. Friar not
only didn t mean for all the deaths to occur, he tried to prevent them. (Logos) Although the core of this
claim is valid, it suffers from a major flaw in its reasoning: that actions speak much louder than
intentions. Despite Friar s good intentions, his secrecy about the marriage and the following events is
irresponsible and leads to the deaths of the lovers. When the lovers are both dead, Friar finally
understands his mistakes and starts by expressing, I married them and their stol n marriage day/ Was

The Protestant Reformation refers to a movement that occurred 1517 when Martin Luther, a priest
who taught at the University of Wittenberg, rebelled against the Roman Catholic Church. Luther s
action eventually created a movement called the Protestant Reformation, where he exposed the corrupt
priests and criticized the indulgences sold by the Church. He urged people to instead read the Bible,
rather than following the orders of the Pope. After Luther was condemned by the Catholic priests and
popes, he was expelled from the Church and sentenced to death. Fortunately, he was protected by a

Race Based Slavery
Throughout the 18TH century, the South became very reliant on slaves for their main source of labor.
Many considered the act as a misfortune dictated by God and that Africans and Indians were naturally
lazy, stupid, and treacherous. As the spread of slavery began to grow, the laws regulating race based
slavery also grew. By the 1660s, legislatures began to legalize the activity and created slave codes to

Although Europeans did hold other Europeans captive, they were never enslaved, unlike the Native

LITERATURE REVIEW
There are various different leadership styles that organizations normally adopts each one of them have
different impact on the organizational commitment on stakeholders. This includes
a) Laissez Faire Leadership
b) Transactional Leadership
c) Transformational Leadership
LAISSEZ FAIRE LEADERSHIP
Laissez faire is the absence of effective leadership (Yukl G, 2010). Laissez faire leaders ignore
problems and follower (Yukl G, 2010) and they do not contribute to the growth of the follower (
(Northouse, 2007). Feedback, rewards and leader involvement are totally absent in this type of
leadership hence reduced organisational commitment.
TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP
A TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADER is a person who stimulates and inspires followers to achieve
extraordinary outcomes (Robbins, 2007)It has been shown to influence organisational members by
transforming their values and priorities while motivating them to perform beyond their expectations
(Rowold, 2007)Increased levels of job satisfaction reduced turnover intentions are consequences of
transformational leadership. It is all about leadership that creates positive change in the followers
whereby they take care of each other s interests and act in the interestsof the groupas a whole

bomb that fell from high above the earth, penetrated the ground, exploded, and caused an earthquake.
It was used towards the end of the war, on massively reinforced installations, underground caverns,
buried tunnels, and bridges. Some of Wallis bombs based on the Earthquake Bomb were used to
disable the German V2 factory, bury V3 guns, sink Tirpitz, the battleship, and other previously

concept was a bomb that bounced across water to avoid torpedo nets. It was designed to allow speed
and time of detonation to be pre determined. In May of 1943, a Bouncing Bomb was used to explode
German dams underwater, having a similar effect to Wallis other design, the earthquake bomb. Also in
the family of bombs developed by Great Britain, was the E61 Anthrax Bomb. This was a biological
bomblet, sub munition for the E133 cluster bomb. Within in was thirty five milliliters of anthrax

their point is understandable. For instance, according to Susan Hallam and John Price, historically
there have been many claims regarding the beneficial effects of music on behavior and development,

The Lifelong Goal Of Saint Thomas Aquinas

Study Of St. Thomas Aquinas
Research Paper
11/23/2014
The lifelong goal of Saint Thomas Aquinas was to clearly elaborate the independence of philosophy
and theology, but at the same time show their symbiotic relationship with each other. Throughout his
life Aquinas was known as a theologian but many of his works carry strong philosophical undertones
as well. The beauty of theology is it can enlighten us through its leap of faith. Philosophy was required
to precede theology. The truths laid down from philosophy are concrete and coherent. These
philosophical truths are the shoes in which theology can walk. Without philosophy there is no
theology. Examples of this can be seen everywhere. Philosophical concepts like ... Show more content

Their importance is paramount because these truths that we believe can in turn be used to create
something greater. As St. Thomas progresses through his works he builds on philosophical truths in
order to allow us to reach a greater higher knowledge. In his book the Summa Theologica Thomas
says, We must bear in mind that there are two kinds of sciences. There are some which proceed from a
principle known by the natural light of intelligence, such as arithmetic and geometry and the like.
Others proceed from principles known by the light of a higher form of knowledge: Thus the science of
perspective proceeds from principles established by geometry, and music from principles established
by arithmetic. So it is that sacred doctrine is a science because it proceeds from principles established
by the light of a higher form of knowledge, namely that of God and the blessed (I, q. 1, a. 2). Aquinas
is establishing the basis for all of theology to be built upon. As he describes to us, there is always an
action and reaction when it comes to human understanding. In order for someone to believe, there
needs to be a definitive and concrete basis for which this knowledge is built. In the case of theology,
we require the basics set forth by philosophy to establish the existence of God. This is and always will
be the quintessential step in accepting the divine wisdom which god reveals to us. Belief in the

Given the novel Science and Religion by John Brook, he has emphasised that religion has been
defined in terms of a belief in supernatural beings or in terms of a commitment to some transcendent
other , which serves to integrate one s life (6). Another example would be T.H. Janabi s Clinging To A
Myth where Bertrand Russell describes how science depends on perception and influence; its
credibility is due to the fact that the perceptions are as such as any observer can test (15). And that is
where problems arise. Since science functions within a world view in regards of natural phenomena as
the produce of life while the hypothesis of creation concerning the evolutionary theory cannot be
tested, people automatially assume that creationism removes itself from the scientific realm. The term
evolution essentially means very slow changes or particular alterations through out time. Muslims, the
nation of Islam, agree with creationism and hold true to the fact that the Holy Quran consists of

systems in regards to evolution and creation hence each one must be specifically noted. Naturalistic

The Mythology Of The Iliad
In The Iliad, the Olympian Gods were depicted as a group of individuals who were still completely
vulnerable to mistake and harm despite their great power. Zeus was one, if not the biggest and most
powerful God among all other Gods. Known as the King of the Gods, Zeus was a mighty, dominant,
and seemingly supreme God, despite his tendency to show surprising silliness and sometimes, the lack
of wisdom through his choices, especially when it came to love affairs, which eventually led to many
problems that could have been prevented. Zeus, in The Iliad, Zeus is a representation of how ancient
Gods were just normal humans equipped with a great degree of power and capabilities, but they have
the tendency to show humanly behavior and mistakes. In the Homer s Iliad, Gods are very susceptible
to human desire. At some point, Gods can act more human than actual humans would act. They would
think, act, speak, and do other things just like a human being. The only thing that seems to differ Gods
and human is their immortality, power and authority over things. Compared to the gods found in
Abrahamic religions, Greek Gods base their decisions and action without principle but feelings and
their personal opinion. Greek God are known to be capricious, prone to arguments over insignificant
things, showing a very close relationship with human behavior. These characteristics of Greek Gods
are probably generated due to the lack of need to thrive and survive since they are immortal and

Important railroad companies dictated government policies because the legal system favored railroad

University Athletic Association Case Summary
1. The first interesting fact that Mr. Howard presented to the class during his presentation was the
price of a master plan for the University Athletic Association and its renderings of facility upgrades. I
was shocked to learn that a master plan with renderings of 7 to 8 facility upgrades from an architecture
costs $90,000. Nevertheless, the detail of each of the rendering to buildings such as: the football,
baseball, softball stadiums and among others show that the University is taking steps to further
improve the fan experience within the stadiums that will seamlessly correlate with all of UF s
championship winning teams. However, to get great results you have to spend the money to receive
the outcome you want.
2. The second interesting fact that was presented today is also based on the financial aspect of
renovation and building new sports facilities on UF s campus. In Mr. Howard s presentation, he
mentioned that the UAA is planning to build a new football facility and cafeteria that will benefit all
UF student athletes. Mr. Howard stated that to build a new facility from the ground up with state of the

The third interesting and exciting point in today s presentation was the plan to build a champion wall
to display all the awards that teams and individuals have won at the University of Florida. This will be
a great addition to the University and the University community because it will give fans the
opportunity to read the name and years of when awards were won and cherish the accomplishment
that the University has received. On top of that, the Champions wall would be another great photo
opportunity, in addition to the Heisman statue, for fans to meet before games and events to take

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electric Cars
If you want an electric car these are the 7 best you can buy today Some argue that electric cars are the
future. Some argue that besides being the future, are also present, though still with certain limitations
and drawbacks. An electric car is one whose engine is electric, as its name indicates, and moves
through the electrical energy stored in a battery that is recharged by plugging the car into a wall outlet.
As simple as that. While still are few, are increasingly manufacturers have released at least one model
of electric car, or are preparing to launch, with examples of brands both Japan and the United States or
Europe. We will review in this article that could be the top seven models that you can buy today in
Spain. Solar photovoltaic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have had occasion to try it last month, and to know its technical details. It s a car you can not miss
on this list because of how well it is done and because its more conventional design can encourage
many people to buy one, although it is more expensive. It is a version of Golf s within the range. It
measures 4.25 m long, has five seats, five doors and a trunk of 343 liters. Its engine delivers almost
116 hp, accelerates from 0 100 km / h in 10.4 seconds and reaches 140 km / h speed limit. It has
approved a range of 190 km. Supports trickle charge and fast charge to 40 kW. Its main floor is the
high quality of visual interior trim, and the interior dimension of the cabin, making it very comfortable
and spacious and driving refinement and running. Only one trim level, which is well equipped as
standard with Full LED headlights and multimedia computer with GPS navigator). It s a shame that
the heat pump for heating optional. In Spain the price is not known yet, but in Germany and sells for
34,900 euros. From what we saw with the Volkswagen E Up !, which eventually sold in Spain for 600
euros less than in Germany, we could assume quite roughly the price of e Golf in Spain will not be
very different from Germany. Excluding aid and PIVE plan would be talking about 27,400 euros

Sophocles Euripides Bacchae
Commentary on Bacchae Paul Woodruff s translation of the Greek play Euripides Bacchae tells the
story of the primary character Dionysus, who is the son of the Greek God Zeus. Dionysus is out to
seek his revenge on his mother s sisters, his grandfather Cadmus, and also his cousin Pentheus
because they have denied that he, Dionysus was born a God. Also important in this play is Pentheus
who was made King of Thebes as a young teenage boy by his grandfather who is also Cadmus.
Pentheus learns of Dionysus trying to change order in Thebes and Pentheus is determined to stop this
form happening at all costs. While reading this play, one may think it is good versus evil , with
Dionysus being good because he wants to bring song, dance, and joy ... Show more content on

Would any true God make a mother kill her child in the manner in which Agave did just so a point
could be proven? As for Pentheus being misunderstood, one could say that Pentheus is a teenage kid
who was just trying to rule Thebes the best he knew how, or what he thought at the time was right.
The play does not go into the depths of Pentheus background, childhood, or what his exact issue with
women is. His dislike, disgust, and annoyance with women leaves me as a reader to wonder if this is
just a phase of teenage puberty Pentheus does not know how to deal with, or is it a more deep seeded
issue such as, could he have been sexually abused by his mother or perhaps one of his aunts as a
child? We will never

Co Operative Education And Traditional Education
Unlike other subjects that may require work and effort to understand, people tend to think they know
what education is. It is familiar topic: a word in the daily use. It s all around us. We go to college or
university to get educated. We entrust our children to schools in the belief that they will become
knowledgeable and skilled (Wood 11). Evidently, education is a long term process, which almost all
people must experience in life. So that, the choices associated with major, future job or kind of
programs are controversial problems in general public, especially the issue of whether or not Co
operative (Co op) education is better than traditional (Non Co op) programs. Additionally, it is also
implied that Co operative program is known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As evidence of this, according to Learning to Learn, College teachers have expressed frustration about
attendance in class, uncompleted reading assignments, and student focus on grades rather than
learning. Student surveys indicate that courses are not interesting, that students fail to recognize the
value of what they are learning, and that many faculty rely too heavily on lectures for transmitting
information (Wirth and Perkins 2 3). Moreover, the rote learning style, which is the memorization of
information based on repetition, though might not understand basic content deeply or may
immediately forget the facts they have learned after the test is the harmful disease that so many
students are struggling. Contrary to conventional education programs, it is implied that Evidently,
enabling students to experience the more theoretical world of school in tandem with the more practical
world of work has the potential of increasing some of the positive outcomes of education (Jeela 2). In
other words, due to integrated learning model of co op educational structure, the student can review
knowledge what is gained in class more effective than studying what were taken note. It is true that
beside classroom lectures, Co op program allows students to work at the company to get credit. This is
mandatory if the learners choose the curriculum with Co op course, the period will be interspersed
with durations of student lectures. Moreover,

Essay about Ancient Egypt
Egyptian history is rich, vibrant, and full of interesting cultural knowledge. Egypt is one of the most
fertile countries located in the Mediterranean Sea; because approximately 40,000 years ago many
people lived in Egypt earlier than in other places. The Egyptian environment is a hot and dry area,
because it is a part of the Sahara Desert. Many Egyptians religious beliefs were polytheistic; they
believed in several different gods. The economy during the ancient Egyptian time period was different
because they were one of the first groups on earth to begin the farming trade. Although Egyptian
history occurred many years ago, it is still interesting and fascinating. (Environment/ culture, Religion,
Economy)
Of course, Ancient Egypt was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Majority of the houses were one bedroom huts, while others were multi room mansions of the rich.
Their furniture was usually used, and candles and lamps were used to light the inside of the houses.
Charcoal and wood was used for fuel, while clay ovens and fires were used for cooking.
Egyptians have been polytheistic since the beginning of time and throughout the Old Kingdom,
Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom. This means they had faith in many different gods. They were
said to have worshipped their gods with animal sacrifices and many of the people would carry images
of the god from place to place. In the beginning the Egyptians believed that only pharaohs had an
afterlife. The Egyptians also believed that all of Egypt belonged to the gods and Pharaoh was their
representative here on earth. Some thought that maybe he was a god himself and that made everything
in Egypt belong to him. They later began to believe that everyone, including animals, had an afterlife.
Egyptians trusted that when a person died Anubis would weigh your soul compared with a feather.
This process would tell whether a person lied, murdered, or been too self involved. If the person s soul
was heavier than the feathers with bad deeds, that person would be punished. The heart was thrown to
a horrible monster called the Eater of the Dead. The Egyptians trusted that after people

Negro League Baseball Research Paper
Negro League Baseball
When the topic of baseball comes up in a conversation, what do you think of? The field, a bat, the ball,
or amazing plays, crucial games, and game winning performances. What about American history?
Does World War II come to mind; most likely not. According to an article called Food for Thought:
Baseball and American History, John P. Rossi quotes Jacques Barzun saying, Whoever wants to know
the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball. Negro League Baseball can be used to shed
light on the historical experience of African American s in the United States.
The first record of baseball in the United States began in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1791. Its
popularity spread quickly through the town and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though most of the committee members were from the North, many of them shared the same
beliefs as the South. They believed that the African American was inferior and not meant to play
baseball in the presence of white men. As the NABBP slowly faded away, another association took a
strong hold over the game. The National Association of Professional Base Ball Players was formed
in1871.The NAPBBP took over with flying colors and was geared for a more professional type
league. With the color line still in place the NAPBBP never had a written rule against African
Americas players. Instead, the association enlisted a gentleman s agreement that barred African
Americans from playing in this league and its eventual successor, the National League. Even though
baseball was unchanged about African American participation, they were slowly being accepted in
society. The fifteenth amendment of the constitution was put into effect just a year before the
formation of the NAPBBP. This was extremely critical for African Americans at the time because this
meant that they would now have the right to vote. The amendment was designed to prohibit
discrimination against voters on the basis of race or previous condition of servitude. Prior to this, the
states had had full responsibility for determining voter qualifications. As baseball grew, so did the
African American ambitions to play against other white teams. Moses Fleetwood Walker,

Reflection On Human Relations
I started this class as an assistant manager for a restaurant which comes with human relations in every
aspect possible. After assesing my human relations abilities and skills in the beginning of the course
my three strengths were first, understanding how personality and perception affect peoples behavior,
human relations, and performance. It is very easy for me to understand how personality affect people
in everything that they do. I able to recognize that no one is the same. We all have different attitudes,
different personal lives, different views and just because we are not all the same doesn t mean we can t
still be respectful to one another or put ourselves in someone else s shoes. I work with all different
kinds of people whom all have different kind of personalities that all bring different attitudes; but I
have taken the time to understand them and get to know them so if I see someone flustered I know if
they need help or if I m hovering. I can feel when things get edgy in the work place and sometimes we
get cranky in the middle of a busy day, but at the end of the day we are all still one big happy
dysfunctional work family that come with many different skills in order to deal with such a wide
variety of personality. second, knowing to open conversations to get people to give me career
assistance. At first I used to hate to ask for assistance because I didn t like feeling as if a question I had
was stupid or not. Now if I can t learn something on my own I am more than happy to ask for
assistance because not only does it show an interest in learning something new, but to ask a certain
individual and make them feel good that I thought of them to ask for assistance makes it a happy
learning experience. Lastly understanding how to resolve conflicts in a way that does not hurt
relationships. whether the conflict is with me and someone else or between my employees I always
like to make sure that by the end of the situation we are all on the same page and that whatever
situation is we can fix it. About a year ago I had a situation with a coworker and I can t remember
what she said, but I had been flustered about something so when she had said something to me my
response was a little rude and she kind of

A Report On Bmw Z8
To the casual observer, the BMW Z8 looks like a 1960s roadster, its swoopy retro esque lines belying
the fact that it first saw light of day in 1999. BMW wanted to create a car to celebrate the turn of the
millennium, bringing together its past and future in one design. Therefore the aluminium bodied Z8
draws heavily from Z07 concept car seen only a few years earlier at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show,
which in turn pays homage to the original BMW 507 from the 1950s. The car was met with great
excitement by both the motoring press and customers alike, an appearance in the James Bond movie,
The World is Not Enough cemented its place as a desirable exotic.
Rivals in this retro modern category were thin on the ground, and there were precious few cars to
which the Z8 could be compared, especially when looking at its traditional German counterparts.
BMW itself had a model range comprising only of the 3, 5 and 7 series with the recently introduced
X5 having just dipped an adventurous toe into untapped segments. The 8 series was in its last year and
rivals had a similarly modest set of offerings to choose from. You had to move to look at niche
manufacturers and up your budget considerably to find any meaningful challengers, the Ferrari 360
and Aston Martin DB7 come to mind and while both have their merits, it is the Z8 that is now worth
considerably more than either of those cars in today s market.
Sharing the 400hp powertrain of the E39 M5 and with 200kg less weight to propel, the

Descriptive Essay About My House
I have lived in the same small house on Honey Creek road my entire life. The front yard is full of
bright green grass, that stands just a little too tall. One ditch is on each side of the long black cement
driveway. At the beginning of the driveway are two large, solid boulders. My front yard is large
compared to the neighboring yards. It is where my siblings and I would play tag and other games
during late summer nights and would build snowmen on cold winter evenings. The same yard that my
brother has spent countless hours push mowing the too tall, bright green grass. Looking at the front
view of my house, the siding is a light gray and covers the entirety of the one story house. There is a
tall red brick chimney off to the right but is hardly ever caught breathing smoke. The roofing is a dark
blue with black speckles and the front door is a matching blue painted on very thick. On the front door
is a brown wreath hung by a burlap bow. The word family, in a bubbly font, is neatly centered in the
middle of the wreath. Inside the blue front door is the largest room where my family and I are almost
always together. Three of the walls are a soft beige and one is a rustic red. The rustic red wall has a
small fireplace and a white mantle surrounding it.The furniture, one small comfy brown couch with
two gold pillows, a matching comfy brown recliner with one gold pillow, and an old white rocking
chair that used to belong to my great grandfather, is all faced towards a black

  • 2. The World Bank s Support For The Construction Of The Nam... A World Bank Failure This paper explores the World Bank s support for the construction of the Nam Theun 2 Dam, located in the Lao People s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), in Southeast Asia. The problems created by this project are examined along with the question of whether or not international financial institutions (IFI), such as the World Bank (herein after referred to as the Bank ) are able to provide assistance in an objective, unbiased and responsible manner. Nam Theun 2 Dam Project Overview Completed in 2010, the Nam Theun 2 Dam (herein after referred to as NT2 ), is a 1070 Megawatt hydroelectric dam located on the Nam Theun River in central Lao PDR. Tokyo based Mekong Watch, a non governmental organization (NGO), estimates NT2 s cost at US$1.45 billion, one of the largest public works projects in Lao PDR s history. The dam flooded a 450 square kilometer area, creating the Nakai Plateau reservoir. A principle component of the project included selling ninety to ninety five percent of NT2 s electrical power to neighboring Thailand (2013). Project Goals In 2006, The World Bank Group s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), reported that the average daily income of Lao PDR citizens was less than US$1, lower in rural areas, and that limited options existed for generating income. At that time, MIGA projected that the NT2 would generate close to US$1.9 billion in foreign exchange earnings over the dam s twenty five year lifespan (through the export of ... • 3. Role Strain Vs Role Conflict When looking at society introspectively, it is evident that it functions on hierarchies. Social status can be defined as the level of prestige or relevance one possesses in society, while a status set is an assortment of responsibilities which stem directly from one s standing in society. Although each one occupies a certain position in society, one factor or position is paramount to the other, which is referred to as the master status(Steckley,2014). Meanwhile, social roles are obligations associated with a particular status, while a role set is a compilation of roles relevant to a particular status. In regards to roles, certain issues may arise which are known as role strain, and role conflict. A Role strain arises when two or more roles create direct conflict pertaining to a particular status (Steckley, 2014). Although similar to a role strain, role conflict differs as it is the rigidity of requirements expected between multiple statuses (Steckley, 2014). After establishing the definition of a status, it can be further condensed into two categories; ascribed and achieved. An ascribed status is what an individual inherits from birth or uncontrolled, whereas an achieved status is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Imagery In Devil In The White City In the nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson uses Imagery, dark tone, and oxymorons to portray H. H. Holmes, whose point of view is half of the story, as the Devil incarnate: evil and subhuman. Larson utilizes imagery to exemplify Holmes character and actions to the audience. He describes Holmes reaction to a friend s sister s death to give the reader an idea of the cold inhumanity he possesed. Even though Holmes told Ned how sorry he was about her passing, yet in his eyes there was only a flat blue calm like that of a lake on a still August morning (123). Larson presents this imagery to give the reader a clear view of Holmes point of view on death. When he reacts with such a flat blue calm, the reader can clearly see that he did not posses even the slightest bit of sincerity. This serves to help the reader see the surface, and allude to what lies beneath. Larson further proves his inhumanity with the portrayal of Holmes murder of his pregnant fiancée, Julia. Holmes promised he would marry her, but with the condition that she had to allow him to execute an abortion. He then held the cloth coated in chloroform over her nose and mouth and within seconds her eyes fluttered and rolled upwards followed by the inevitable, reflexive disturbance of muscles, like a dream of running (148). Larson uses words like flutter and rolled to show the reader that her consciousness fled from her with no objection from her being noted. This is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Virtual Organization Behavior Virtual Organization Characteristics From the definitions of virtual organization/team, it can be summarized that virtual organization/team has four main characteristics which make it different from non virtual organization/team: First, cross line, virtual organization/team is centralized with a few or without department. Business environment change makes a company or organization should be more flexible in doing its activity. When a company should produce a high quality product to meet their consumer needs, they could collaborate with other companies to determine consumer needs. In this case, virtual organization/team has an important role. Second, resources and purpose sharing, virtual organization/team could facilitate someone with innovative idea but has not enough resources. Amazon sells a lot of books but they do not really have the books, they cooperate with other parties who have the books and then sell it via Amazon. Third, geographic dispersion, refer to any physical dispersion of team members, such as different geographic locations or different workplaces at the same geographic location, nationally or internationally. Virtual organization/team could maximize the time difference advantage from its member. When a US company develops a website they can work on it from morning to evening, and their partner in the other part of the world (Asia, Africa, or Europe) will continue the development so it could finished faster. • 9. Ky-Nos Castle Analysis The Hauntings of Craig Y Nos Castle in Wales By Claire Barrand Craig Y Nos Castle which in Welsh, means Rock of the Night, Maintains a reputation as the Most Haunted Castle in Wales, having been visited by Most Haunted, alongside numerous other TV shows which have also filmed at the castle. My sister Linzi and I have investigated this location together twice and have not been disappointed, in fact, we would have to say this location is in our top three for paranormal activity! The Early Years The history itself is epic enough to inspire a Hollywood feature film. The story begins in 1840 when the neo gothic castle, set beside the River Tawe on the edge of the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, was built by an ambitious Captain Rice Davies. Using local limestone to form the impressive structure he got carried away with turrets and pyramids and ran out of money being unable to complete the north wing before moving in in 1843 to begin his life as a country gentleman. Davies became a county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. However, rumours of a curse on the family spread as misfortune fell upon the family when his younger son died of cholera in 1851, and he lost both his wife and his daughter to illness before he died in 1862. Two years later, his Davies son died in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah, the eldest daughter, and her husband Captain Allaway lived at the castle after his death, until disaster struck once more and the Captain also died a few years later. His widow relocated to Tenby, and the property sold in 1875 76, purchased by the Morgan family of Abercrave for £6000. The Adelina Patti Years In 1878, the castle and its setting attracted the attentions of the leading opera star of that day Italian Adelina Patti, who announced that she had found the home of her dreams and an offer of £3500 accepted for the castle and surrounding parkland. A demanding soprano with a colourful private life, she was said to have had numerous affairs including one with the tenor Mario. Eventually Scott returned to Missouri, after doing so he decided to sue the Missouri court for his freedom, he was unsuccessful. His argument was that he claimed residency in a free territory area and this would make him a free man. Since this did not work Scott brought a new suit in federal court. While support to the nations is usually overshadowed by the high profile duty of detracting it, military support is a vital mission which still continues to grow as alluded to by the number of domestic problems to which the Department of Defense (DOD) has responded to in past years (Grange Johnson 1997, p.108). • 12. Using A Different Setup Than A Standard Linear Optical System Using a different setup than a standard linear optical system, [SOURCE]Choi et al. are able to use trapped ions as qubits in an optical quantum computer. As a direct result, unique possibilities for addressing scalability issues are discovered. Since trapped ions already have fundamentally low levels of coherent error, suppression of that error in a scaled quantum computer requires significantly less error correction. Also, the group demonstrates an architecture in which more than two entangled qubits could be addressed simultaneously, further expanding the possibility of scaling. Some research indicates that linear optical systems could contain unexplored features that would greatly increase the feasibility of scalability for quantum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Properties like this make working with double donor systems much easier. Still, some of the end results of experiments using single dot schemes have advanced quantum computing in general, via a combination of multiple schemes. An article by Calderón et al., in tandem with other previous experiments that allow for coherence times near a second, provide a possible solution to avoiding coherent error. The use of a single electron donor for isolated qubits has one interesting result: Calderón describes the unique state when he says if they form a triplet, selection rules imply a much longer lived state. This unique situation does not come as a result of double donors, only single. By using only single dot triplets, it might be possible to combine the system with others because of its abnormally long coherence time and high accuracy. As discussed, the use of single dot architecture could be combined in unique ways with linear optical schemes. [SOURCE] Economou et al. support this idea, stating [s]pins...have received a great deal of attention because they interact strongly with light and provide the opportunity for ultrafast all optical implementation of logical operations. While the negative implications of that statement, especially in decoherence caused by environmental interaction, have been discussed, there are many potential benefits as well. • 13. Cancer Cell Essay Breaking away: cancer cell dissemination and survival in the periphery Once the primary tumor gains the capacity to evade host immune system and cancer cells enter the circulation, metastatic dissemination takes place. Before metastatic dissemination, the prematastatic niches are primed. Cell types which earlier were recruited to destroy cancer now facilitate in tumor progression(Fig. 2). TME supports cancer cells in leaving the primary tumor site seeding in secondary organs. In the primary tumor one of the initial steps was EMT, during which tumor cells lose epithelial markers and gain mesenchymal traits that confer stem like properties and a migratory phenotype. But in secondary site, cancer cells show phenotypic switching, i.e., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hypoxia takes place in the tumor core due to deficiency of oxygen. Hypoxia mediates immune cell recruitment (eg.; Lymphocytes in colorectal cancer) and concentrates them at the tumor periphery to support cancer invasion at the leading edge. Hypoxia in the tumor core leads to aggressive selection pressure for resilient stem like tumor cells due to which these cells migrate to the periphery of the tumor. 2.3INTRAVASATION According to Paget s hypothesis of seed and soil , cancer cells (seed) gradually acquire mutations in oncogenes or tumour suppressor genes that confer the ability to intravasate, survive in the haematogenous or lymphatic circulation, and prosper in a distant site (soil). This soil would have characteristics that allow the metastatic cell to adhere and proliferate. In humans, certain tumours metastasize to specific organ sites. For example, breast cancers metastasize to lung, liver, bone and brain; melanoma to liver, brain and skin. By contrast, some tumors like glioma do not metastasize, instead migrate along white matter tracks, others such as ovarian tumours are restricted to the peritoneal cavity. Some others such as head and neck cancers only spread to regional lymph nodes. The molecular bases of these differences are poorly if at all understood, but probably have a microenvironmental component. • 15. A Rose For Emily By William Faulkner In A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, Faulkner conveys the issue of involving trying to maintain traditional values and control in a society that is facing a change that is radical and widespread. In this story, Emily is seen as timeless figure that contradicts a society that is trying to build up a more efficient, modern lifestyle. Miss Emily is portrayed as a women who resents change and responds uncomfortably to any force that tries to change her inhibitions. Her house is a portrait of her mindset with the leather covered furniture being described as cracked , and the pillow on which the townspeople found her dead body was yellow and moldy with age and lack of sunlight (par.55). Instead of replacing the furniture with newer polished one, she chooses to use her dark and dusty home as shield from the modern transformation of the town. Miss Emily s refusal to change causes her several disagreements with the local government and law enforcement. Her rejection to the multiple tax notices causes a burden with the newer generation as they are unfamiliar with Miss Emily s way of law and conduct. This is privy to Miss Emily s position as well, as she is unfamiliar with the current change in the local power as she is steadfast in her reprisal of Colonel Sartoris s conduct, unknowledgable (or unwilling to accept) his death ten years before. Energy from the central region provides pressure to keep the star from falling apart under its own weight. The contracting cloud is then called a protostar. A protostar is the earliest stage of a star s life. A star is born when the gas and dust from a nebula become so hot that nuclear fusion starts. Once a star has turned on it is known as a main sequence star. When a main sequence star begins to run out of hydrogen fuel, the star becomes a red giant or a red supergiant. The Birth of Star (Nebulas) All stars start as a nebula. Nebulas are large clouds of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases. Gravity then might pull the gas and dust in a nebula together. In example of this is the Orion Nebula, which was located in excellent detail by NASA s Hubble Space Telescope and Spitzer Space Telescope. A protostar is formed from the contracting clouds deep within these clouds that gives rise to knots with sufficient mass that the gas and dust can begin to collapse under its own gravitational attraction (NASA, para.4). Throughout his life Aquinas was known as a theologian but many of his works carry strong philosophical undertones as well. The beauty of theology is it can enlighten us through its leap of faith. As St. Thomas progresses through his works he builds on philosophical truths in order to allow us to reach a greater higher knowledge. In his book the Summa Theologica Thomas says, We must bear in mind that there are two kinds of sciences. There are some which proceed from a principle known by the natural light of intelligence, such as arithmetic and geometry and the like. Others proceed from principles known by the light of a higher form of knowledge: Thus the science of perspective proceeds from principles established by geometry, and music from principles established by arithmetic. So it is that sacred doctrine is a science because it proceeds from principles established by the light of a higher form of knowledge, namely that of God and the blessed (I, q. 1, a. 2). Aquinas is establishing the basis for all of theology to be built upon. As he describes to us, there is always an action and reaction when it comes to human understanding. In order for someone to believe, there needs to be a definitive and concrete basis for which this knowledge is built. In the case of theology, we require the basics set forth by philosophy to establish the existence of God. On the fourteenth of July,1884, an announcement was published in the Seneca County Courier, and it reads, A Convention to discuss the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of women will be held in the Wesleyan Chapel, at Seneca Falls, N.Y., on Wednesday and Thursday, the 19th and 20th of July current; commencing at 10 o clock A.M. • 36. The Mythology Of The Iliad In The Iliad, the Olympian Gods were depicted as a group of individuals who were still completely vulnerable to mistake and harm despite their great power. Zeus was one, if not the biggest and most powerful God among all other Gods. Known as the King of the Gods, Zeus was a mighty, dominant, and seemingly supreme God, despite his tendency to show surprising silliness and sometimes, the lack of wisdom through his choices, especially when it came to love affairs, which eventually led to many problems that could have been prevented. Zeus, in The Iliad, Zeus is a representation of how ancient Gods were just normal humans equipped with a great degree of power and capabilities, but they have the tendency to show humanly behavior and mistakes. In the Homer s Iliad, Gods are very susceptible to human desire. At some point, Gods can act more human than actual humans would act. They would think, act, speak, and do other things just like a human being. The only thing that seems to differ Gods and human is their immortality, power and authority over things. Compared to the gods found in Abrahamic religions, Greek Gods base their decisions and action without principle but feelings and their personal opinion. Greek God are known to be capricious, prone to arguments over insignificant things, showing a very close relationship with human behavior. These characteristics of Greek Gods are probably generated due to the lack of need to thrive and survive since they are immortal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Impact of Big Business on Politics and the Economy Essay After the Civil war, large businesses ruled America. Prior to the industrial revolution, the government upheld a hands off approach towards business. Under the laissez faire principle, free, unregulated markets led to competition, yet this system suffered under the wrath of growing corporations. The impact of big business on the economy and politics was immense during 1870 to 1899. Corporations were growing significantly in number and size, which had a domineering affect on American economy and defined American life. The growing corporations in America dominated most of the economy, creating a large gap between the rich and the poor. During this time period food, lightening, and fuel prices declined significantly, and the cost of living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This illustrates that the Senate is controlled by big business, and how easily wealthy people had power over the government. Moreover, the railroad presidents were seen as kings, they could delay lawsuits, control the government and the people, corrupt communities, and control the press (DOC B). Important railroad companies dictated government policies because the legal system favored railroad interests. Further, trying to better the political system, the Populist Party made themselves known. Their platform demanded that the government be restored to the hands of the plain people. They wanted to end oppression, injustice, and poverty (DOC F). Evidently, they were dedicated to political and social reform, and urged that the government be strengthened and take responsibility of the people. The harsh working conditions resulting from industrialization drove laborers to organize into unions. Economist David A. Wells compares working in a factory to working in the military because workers are taught to perform one single task. Moreover, manufacturing has largely taken away workers pride in their work (DOC C). Mass production techniques led to specialization of labor, which subsequently decreased workers pride in their craft, as well as left workers largely unskilled. Further Samuel Gompers, founder of the AF to L, addressed the International Labor Congress in Chicago and stated that people should not be considered property. He advocated that labor ... Nowadays, because of the fast evolution of electronic device, The recent developments in permanent magnet materials, solid state devices and microelectronic have led to the appearance of a new energy efficient drives using permanent magnet brushless direct current motors (PMBLDCM). Brushless direct current (BLDC) motors are preferred as small horsepower control motors because their efficiency is very high, the operation is in a silent mode, has a compact form, contains high precision, low maintenance, Its structure is simple, and has a large torque, etc. Hence, it is extensively used in national defense, aerospace, robotics, industrial process control, precision machine tools, automotive electronics, household appliances and office automation [1]. However, the problems are found in these motor for variable speed operation over last decades keeping technology growth in power semiconductors, microprocessors, adjustable speed drivers control schemes and permanent magnet brushless electric motor production have been joined to enable reliable, cost effective solution for a wide area of adjustable speed applications. As the name reveals, Brushless motors have no brushes and commutators. In direct current (brushed) motors, the switching of current in coils of the armature is done using the combination of brushes and commutators but in the brushless, the commutation process is achieved with the help of electronic circuit, which diminishes the mechanic losses and the efficiency ... • 40. University Athletic Association Case Summary 1. The first interesting fact that Mr. Howard presented to the class during his presentation was the price of a master plan for the University Athletic Association and its renderings of facility upgrades. I was shocked to learn that a master plan with renderings of 7 to 8 facility upgrades from an architecture costs $90,000. Nevertheless, the detail of each of the rendering to buildings such as: the football, baseball, softball stadiums and among others show that the University is taking steps to further improve the fan experience within the stadiums that will seamlessly correlate with all of UF s championship winning teams. However, to get great results you have to spend the money to receive the outcome you want. 2. The second interesting fact that was presented today is also based on the financial aspect of renovation and building new sports facilities on UF s campus. In Mr. Howard s presentation, he mentioned that the UAA is planning to build a new football facility and cafeteria that will benefit all UF student athletes. Mr. Howard stated that to build a new facility from the ground up with state of the art amenities, it would cost the UAA around $60 million dollars, just for this project alone. The play does not go into the depths of Pentheus background, childhood, or what his exact issue with women is. His dislike, disgust, and annoyance with women leaves me as a reader to wonder if this is just a phase of teenage puberty Pentheus does not know how to deal with, or is it a more deep seeded issue such as, could he have been sexually abused by his mother or perhaps one of his aunts as a child? The National Association of Professional Base Ball Players was formed in1871.The NAPBBP took over with flying colors and was geared for a more professional type league. With the color line still in place the NAPBBP never had a written rule against African Americas players. Instead, the association enlisted a gentleman s agreement that barred African Americans from playing in this league and its eventual successor, the National League. Even though baseball was unchanged about African American participation, they were slowly being accepted in society. The fifteenth amendment of the constitution was put into effect just a year before the formation of the NAPBBP. This was extremely critical for African Americans at the time because this meant that they would now have the right to vote. The amendment was designed to prohibit discrimination against voters on the basis of race or previous condition of servitude. Prior to this, the states had had full responsibility for determining voter qualifications. As baseball grew, so did the African American ambitions to play against other white teams. After assesing my human relations abilities and skills in the beginning of the course my three strengths were first, understanding how personality and perception affect peoples behavior, human relations, and performance. It is very easy for me to understand how personality affect people in everything that they do. I able to recognize that no one is the same. We all have different attitudes, different personal lives, different views and just because we are not all the same doesn t mean we can t still be respectful to one another or put ourselves in someone else s shoes. I work with all different kinds of people whom all have different kind of personalities that all bring different attitudes; but I have taken the time to understand them and get to know them so if I see someone flustered I know if they need help or if I m hovering. I can feel when things get edgy in the work place and sometimes we get cranky in the middle of a busy day, but at the end of the day we are all still one big happy dysfunctional work family that come with many different skills in order to deal with such a wide variety of personality. second, knowing to open conversations to get people to give me career assistance. At first I used to hate to ask for assistance because I didn t like feeling as if a question I had was stupid or not. Now if I can t learn something on my own I am more than happy to ask for assistance because not only does it show an interest in learning something new, but to ask a certain individual and make them feel good that I thought of them to ask for assistance makes it a happy learning experience. Lastly understanding how to resolve conflicts in a way that does not hurt relationships. whether the conflict is with me and someone else or between my employees I always like to make sure that by the end of the situation we are all on the same page and that whatever situation is we can fix it. About a year ago I had a situation with a coworker and I can t remember what she said, but I had been flustered about something so when she had said something to me my response was a little rude and she kind of ... BMW wanted to create a car to celebrate the turn of the millennium, bringing together its past and future in one design. Therefore the aluminium bodied Z8 draws heavily from Z07 concept car seen only a few years earlier at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, which in turn pays homage to the original BMW 507 from the 1950s. The car was met with great excitement by both the motoring press and customers alike, an appearance in the James Bond movie, The World is Not Enough cemented its place as a desirable exotic. Rivals in this retro modern category were thin on the ground, and there were precious few cars to which the Z8 could be compared, especially when looking at its traditional German counterparts. BMW itself had a model range comprising only of the 3, 5 and 7 series with the recently introduced X5 having just dipped an adventurous toe into untapped segments. The 8 series was in its last year and rivals had a similarly modest set of offerings to choose from. You had to move to look at niche manufacturers and up your budget considerably to find any meaningful challengers, the Ferrari 360 and Aston Martin DB7 come to mind and while both have their merits, it is the Z8 that is now worth considerably more than either of those cars in today s market.
