Special Speech On Special Transition
Special Transition
( Intro optional) Hello and good evening everyone. Thank you for coming to witness this special
event. You are all are going to witness a special milestone that will forever be in our hearts. Remember
that your presence alone supports us in every way possible as we are going through a special transition
today. Now, I will start my speech.
A milestone. What is a milestone? Today, we are going to experience a milestone. A life milestone that
all of us, in the future, will look back to and talk about how things were back then to the current lives
we live in, the things we regret and the things we are proud of. We will someday, remember what this
moment meant for us. But that doesn t answer what a milestone ... Show more content on

But now that we are graduating, we are now considered a teenager, an adolescent, an alien, a young
adult, and all the other names out there. We, as the 2015, grade eight graduates will be transitioning
from elementary to high school, a child to an adolescent. However, graduating elementary isn t the
end, it just means that we just finished a chapter of our lives or the first novel of our trilogy. The next
step, which is being an actual adolescent is the second novel of our lives, it will be a new beginning
we somehow need to surmount. A more complicated, difficult looking life, which actually isn t. Next
year, when we are going for our first day of high school, it s a bigger world. We ll meet new people
with different knowledge, doings, ethnicity, religion, race, languages and more. Personally, even I,
who other people around me absolutely believe is ready for high school, think of such worries like:
What if I don t get my locker open in time? What if I can t even open my locker? What if I get
influenced badly in high school? What if I am late in the first day of school? What if, what if , what if.
A bunch of what if s that just restrains us from being confident and proud of ourselves. Don t worry,
just remember that the Holy Spirit dwells in your body and that it ll help you down the road. Focus
more on the positives of life. In high school, the fact that we can get to meet

The United States Tax System
Past Influences, the United States Tax System
The Power of Tax
Franklin D Roosevelt once said Taxes, after all, are dues that we pay for the privileges of membership
in an organized society . Though the word, tax, itself has so much power the basic definition is to
asses a fee against a citizen person, property, or activity for the support of the government (Tax, n.d. ,
para. 2). Just mentioning taxes as a headliner on a newscast will draw the public in to listen to the
news. The word is unescapable since as citizens of the United States taxes are paid on almost all
earned income and on the majority of goods or services purchased. In order for the federal government
to fund for expenditures related to the economy; taxes are collected from ... Show more content on

14). Over the years no internal revenues were collected, hence to raise money for war Congress would
raise excise taxes, custom duties, and issue Treasury notes (History of the US Tax, 2003, para. 14).
Civil War Influence Initially few taxes did exist in the United States, however it was not until 1862,
and Congress enacted the nation s first income tax law (Brief History of IRS). During this time period
the nation was going through the Civil War, and in order to support the war Congress established the
office of Commissioner of the Internal Revenue (History of Income Tax). The Commissioner of 1862
still has the same obligations, thus the power to collect taxes, levy, seize property, assess, and enforce
tax laws. Throughout the Civil War any person earning from $600 to $10,000 per year paid tax at the
rate of three percent, while people that earned more than $10,000 paid a higher rate of five percent
(History of Income Tax).Although the people who earned more were taxed at a higher rate in the
course of time, a standard deduction of $600 was also enacted for rental housing, repairs, losses, and
other taxes paid (History of the US Tax, 2003, para. 14). With the end of the Civil War, the necessity
for the additional tax revenue began to diminish as well as public support of the individual income tax
rate. Congress did eventually decrease the

Physician Assistant Job Application Essay
Career I Search Part One The career I became interested in is a Physician s Assistant, or a few people
call them PAs. I became interested in this job in my sophomore year of high school. It all started when
I attended the STEM fair after school one day. STEM fair is only offered to students who are in either
the biomedical Stem academy or the engineer academy. At this fair, students tour around to different
classrooms to acquire information on different careers. I attended the Physician s Assistant one, where
there was an actual PA to give information on what PAs achieve. For example, PAs examine patients
for diseases, injuries and illnesses. After an hour long talk about this career I became very interested in
this because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important elements I educated myself with during this project are the research, colleges and
experience. All these can aid in becoming a Physician Assistant. First, Physician Assistants totally
contradicted my thoughts before I even started researching them. For instance, I thought that one had
to have straight A s to become anything in the medical field. However, I learned that having straight A
s does not, as a matter of fact, show any intelligence whatsoever. Becoming a PA is strictly about how
one gets the job done, not how smart a dignitary

The Case Of Pedigo V.
In the case of Pedigo v. P.A.M. Transp., 891 F. Supp. 482, 485 (W.D. Ark. 1994), rev g, 60 F.3d 1300
(8th Cir. 1995), The court advised that the ADA as it was being interpreted had the potential of being
the greatest generator of litigation ever. Also, that the court doubted whether Congress, in its wildest
dreams or wildest nightmares, intended to turn every garden variety worker s compensation claim into
a federal case. Based on statistical data from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
(EEOC), from the time the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1992, enacted to FY 1996,

It is also possible that plaintiff lawyers simply do not yet fully understand the legal requirements of
the ADA. To the extent that cases lose because of the distinctive features of the ADA like the
reasonable accommodation requirement and the definition of disability. My analysis of appellate
decisions under the ADA suggests that defendants are much more likely than plaintiffs to prevail in
appellate litigation are .
In a summary judgment case, a person with a qualifying disability is the first step, along with the
threshold step for plaintiffs in making the prima facie case of discrimination requisite. There are two
elements of the plaintiff s prima facie case (in the absence of direct evidence of discrimination) are
that the plaintiff was qualified for the position, with or without accommodations, and that the plaintiff
experienced the adverse action as a result of disability . It is also, found that the elements of the prima
facie case may be more difficult to dismiss on motions for summary judgment, as they likely involve
disputed claims about the facts.
In the empirical study by Beford in 2013 , one assumption is that the ADAAA will result in fewer
summary judgment rulings finding that claimants lack standing as covered individuals with a
disability. This study examines all reported federal court summary judgment decisions arising under

Philippa Foot Double Effect Definition
Philippa Foot, a philosopher, argued that moral judgments have a rational basis. The choices we make
in our lives are based on a number of varying and different factors. Theories such as the principle of
double effect are meant to back up the choices we make in society. The doctrine of the double effect
relies strongly on the difference between what a person foresees as an outcome of their individual
actions, and what they actually intended the outcome to be (Timmons, 2012, p. 93). This theory refers
to two very identifiable results. The first, is that the action may produce the one aimed at , and second,
the one foreseen but in no way desired. Foot further explains that oblique intention and direct intention
are often determining factors in the principle of double effect. Through oblique intention, a person
brings about an effect that was unintended and through direct intention a person brings about an effect
intentionally (Timmons, 2012, p. 94).
To support this viewpoint, Foot uses an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, the conductor simply foresees it as an unexpected result. We do not want the death of one
worker in order to save the five workers from the runaway train. In fact, it would be a relief, if the one
worker can somehow free themselves in time to avoid being struck by the train. We would not if the
worker fled, chased down the conductor and killed him. Furthermore, as Foot suggests, it is much
worse, morally, to intentionally harm someone as a means to an end than it is to simply foresee that
harm will be done to someone as an unintended side effect of one s ends. Therefore, in the case of the
runaway train, it is permissible to kill the one worker because the conductor s primary intention is to
save the lives of the five workers. The death of the one worker on the side track is a secondary effect

The Symptoms Of Jenny s Condition
Some of the symptoms of Jenny s condition was that she first kept a messy desk at school, in which
her teachers would complain about. She then began hiding her toys from her father and thus, became
very emotionally attached to them. After she was put on medication for her ADHD, she was having
troubles making simple decisions such as what to wear for the day, and had extreme troubles with
throwing away boxes, in which she justified that she knew they would come in handy for something
one day (34). Jenny began making excuses like this for other irrational hoarding behaviors, such as
keeping the original packaging for her toys because, she knew that an item would typically sell at a
higher price if it were in the original packaging (34). She had anxiety when she thought about losing
these types of items, and even had an emotional breakdown when her mother threw away all of her
toilet paper rolls. Once she became engaged, she began to become obsessed with wedding planning,
which then turned her office into a mess. Even after she had kids, she continued collecting things that
she believed were important, refusing to throw away anything, which only took over their whole
house. She would even constantly buy items off Ebay or Amazon to hoard. All of these dynamic
symptoms combined, described hoarding disorder, identified within the book, which is excessive
acquisition and difficultying discarding items, which results in extreme clutter in the living
environment. This is

Wuthering Heights Heathcliff Essay
Wuthering Heights Heathcliff
Wuthering Heights centres on the story of Heathcliff. The first paragraph provides a vivid physical
picture of him, as Lockwood describes how his black eyes withdraw suspiciously under his brows at
Lockwood s approach. Nelly s story begins with his introduction into the Earnshaw family. His
vengeful desire to do evil and his love for Catherine drive the entire plot.
Heathcliff, however, defies being understood and it is difficult for the reader to resist seeing what they
want to see in him. By the name
Heath cliff it hints to the reader that he is empty like a heath or dangerous like a cliff. The house which
he is brought to also gives the reader a picture of stormy bad weather. Bronte ... Show more content on

One afternoon when Heathcliff was going for a stroll with Catherine they passed through Thrushcross
Grange. Catherine fell in and the
Lintons took her in but they did not invite Heathcliff. They nursed
Catherine back to health and in the mean time she came to like Edgar.
Later on they arranged for Catherine and Edgar to marry which completely destroyed him. This was
the start of many evil deeds that would be caused by Heathcliff to the Linton family.
On the return of Heathcliff as a gentleman Heathcliff thought he was prepared to avenge Hindley for
his maltreatment and the Linton family for taking away Catherine from him. His main aim was to gain
control on Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange and win back the hand of
Catherine.
Heathcliff began gambling with Hindley he caused him to become an addicted gambler and an
alcoholic. He lost Wuthering Heights to
Heathcliff and died a broken man after living on Heathcliffs petty charity. Heathcliff decided to marry
Isabella to get back at Edgar. He treated her like a slave in her own house and they did not even have

abuse of her was purely sadistic as he amused himself by seeing how much she could take and

The first weeks were going to be hard for Alfred. He was sore and tired. It s not easy trying to become
a contender. It s never any fun in the beginning. It s hard work, you ll want to quit at least once every

you, nothing s ever promised you (pg.36). This quote from the novel shows that Alfred was sore the
first week of his training, but knew that he must deal with it to work hard. Alfred continues to work
hard and dedicate himself as much as he can. Even though times could be difficult for him. In the song
Rise Up by Andra Day, the message is to just keep working hard and don t give up on yourself. The
song s message is similar to Alfred s training because he is working hard to be his best. Your broken

Speckled Band Sparknotes
The story The Adventure of the Speckled Band by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is a popular Sherlock
Holmes novel with supreme detail. The story involves four main characters the investigator Sherlock
Holmes with his partner, Dr.Watson who is very brave. Together they solve the murder of Julia Stoner,
who is the sister of a wise and timid woman named Helen Stoner. The murder was at Dr.Roylott s
family estate called the Stoke Moran. This murder took place on April 1883 at the family estate.
During the story Helen Stoner tells Sherlock and Dr.Watson that ever since their step father,
Dr.Roylott came back everything was strange, so immediately Sherlock had his suspicions for
Dr.Roylott. During Helens meeting with Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson she tells them that she fears
for her life and wants to know why Julia was murdered on the eve of Julia s wedding. Although
Sherlock has his suspicions for Dr.Roylott he still looks out for other clues. Towards the beginning of

Erythropoietin Essay
Erythropoietin: Is it worth it?
Carriella Starnes
Emory Henry College
Over a century ago Eugene Goldwasser and Takaji Miyake worked together in Chicago to synthesize
the human hormone erythropoietin, better known as EPO. It took over 10 years for EPO to be
approved by the Food and Drug Administration to be used solely for patients with anemia. EPO is
naturally produced by the kidneys and is sensitive to the oxygen levels in the blood. When oxygen
levels are too low, EPO is released and stimulates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells.
Often times a low oxygen level in the blood can indicate that a person has anemia, which is a
condition in which the blood is deficient in red blood cells... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Genius as it was, the system soon caught up and cheating the test became harder (Hopkins, 2000). In
the 2004 Olympic games they solely used urine samples to test for synthetic EPO (or rhEPO) in the
system, which proved to be a much more accurate way to get results ( EPO detection , 2015). Now
there are more ways than one to obtain higher levels of EPO. More recently the use of hyperbaric
chambers has increased in use by athletes. Hyperbaric chambers increase our oxygen intake from 25%
to around 50% by forcing pure oxygen into the lungs which increases oxygen delivery, and thus
recovery time is shortened ( Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for athletes , 2015). Many professional
athletes have used these chambers to assist in injury recovery and recuperation after performances.
These aren t just used for athletes, though; hyperbaric chambers work very well to aid in the
management of diseases like chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson s disease, and rehabilitation after
surgeries (Howell, n.d.). A tool that may be a little more common is an elevation training mask; these
masks are designed to simulate training in higher altitudes by restricting the amount of air one can
breathe in. When the amount of oxygen someone breathes in is reduced hemoglobin is produced at a
higher rate, which then transports more oxygen and creates a higher amount of

Zoning
Simply put, zoning, in a planning or land use context, is the classification of the land in a community
into districts with different regulations for its utilization. Zoning and other methods of land use control
have evolved with the primary objectives of promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing of residents
while minimizing the negative impacts of one activity or use upon others. Zoning is effectively a
legislative process whereby a community prioritizes values associated with land, development, and
associated activities. A zoning system generally includes map or plan elements which define areas
where like regulations apply, and a textual, usually relatively locally legislated ordinance, code, or law
consisting of definitions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final general type of zoning regulation limits the physical and spatial form of development.
Examples of this type include restrictions on building heights, setbacks, road widths, building
materials, and architectural style.
In the first third of the 20th century, the United States saw zoning become an accepted tool in land use
regulation. New York City passed a zoning plan in 1916. This set of rules primarily focused on
building form and setbacks, and included a now routine provision for variances. The New York law
was primarily a response to a technological innovation the skyscraper and the arising concerns
associated with it.
Many States adopted the Standard State Zoning Enabling Acts of 1922, which was offered as a model
by the U.S. Department of Commerce and provided a framework and codified a general legal basis for
zoning across the country. The Department of Commerce also introduced a Standard City Planning
Enabling Act, which was widely adopted beginning in 1928. These acts put into place the general
structure of local and regional planning and zoning which is still used today. Elements and entities
such as the Planning Commission, the Master Plan, subdivision control measures, and provision for
regional planning bodies and plans were primarily introduced by the Standard City Planning Enabling
Act.

Poetry Form Essay
Poems are a form of writing with a set meter. Most poems have an end rhyme scheme to accompany
the meter. Poems, like short stories, have symbols. Although short story symbols were not the easiest
to identify, the symbols in poems are sometimes even harder to determine. Poems also include
metaphors, imagery, a certain tone, and always have a set audience. Lyrics are the most obvious type
of poetry to date. A song has a rhythm and when the lyrics are sung to the beat a poem is created.
Lyrics are not the only form of poetry. There are many different forms poetry can take on. Sonnets are
probably the second most known form of poetry. Sonnets are made up of 14 lines, have end rhyme,
and have a meter. There are two main forms of a sonnet; Shakespearean (English) and Petrarchan
(Italian).
The Italian sonnet was created by a man named Petrarch in the 14th century. This sonnet is made up of
an octave (8 lines) and a sestet (6 lines) adding up to the sonnets grand total of 14 lines. A Volta, or
dramatic change in the emotion, comes after the octave. The theme of the Petrarchan sonnet can
generally be found within the ending sestet. Two centuries later a new type of sonnet was born. The
Shakespearean sonnet was created by none other than the late William Shakespeare. The English
sonnet is made up of three quatrains (4 lines) and an ending couplet (2 lines) creating the iconic 14
lines. The Volta comes after the 3rd quatrain leaving the couplet as the space for the poems theme.

control over her future. The accomplishment was nothing. , she has already been picked to act and

The Gap Between The Rich And Poor Essay
I was born and brought up in Nairobi, Kenya. Demographically, my family was typically part of
Kenya s urban poor. As a young boy, I was constantly confronted by the realities and debilitating
impact of poverty. At the age of twelve, I was transferred from a Nairobi based primary school to a
boarding primary school in rural Kenya where I eventually excelled and emerged the best in the
district during national examinations, earning me admission to one of the best high schools in the
country.
While in high school, I not only developed my leadership skills as a school prefect and a deputy
school captain but also discovered new talent as I went on to become a national champion in national
operatic music competitions. Talent and education opened up my eyes to a world of possibilities and
opportunities beyond my imagination.
Nonetheless, the reality of the gap between the rich and poor remained stark in darker shades of black
and lighter shades of white. To me, the root and the problem of poverty was no longer shrouded in a
gray shroud of mystery. It dawned on me that education a necessary condition to the emancipation of
the poor from the shackles of hopeless travail. It was through education that, for the first time, options
were laid out in front of me. I could choose a different future for myself and my future offspring. I
could fathom a flat world, one that presented equal opportunity to all, regardless of tribe, gender or
social background. I could choose to be part of the

A Ponzi scheme is where the operator entices potential investors into fraudulent investments by

By letting the community know about the outreach and its hopes, it will gain supporters. Once the
community has heard about teens living in homelessness and poverty in their town, they will
hopefully become a supporter. This will pull at people s emotions and draw them towards the cause,
which is: helping these teens. For an outreach program to have supporters, it has to get itself out there.
People living in a community want to know what is going on. The only way for help to be achieved is
through these people. To further get the outreach program out there, direct contact will be needed.
Going to schools and public places to find these teens who are living in these conditions will be the
next step. Before you can help, you have to know who to help. In an article by Family and youth

Understanding and Treating Depression
Americans are obsessed with happiness, yet increasingly depressed. A dominant theme in our society
is that you should be happy, and if you are not, there is something wrong with you. Life can be
difficult at times and people do not seem to realize that everyone has different circumstances. There
are about 15 million Americans that battle the disease of depression. Our society is in the throes of a
virtual epidemic of depression (Psychology today). Depression is the most common illness seen in all
of medicine and people still have problems knowing what depression actually is such as its actual

When one is depressed it brings them down and they only seem to see the negative in everything.
They block out all the good. People become sad and start to feel helpless about many situations. When
a person stops doing what they do in normal basis, such as work or school, the depression seems to
increase. Even though the free time is for them to enjoy they will seldom feel enthusiasm, even for
things they use to look forward to (Center). The causes of depression vary from physical/biological,
some are psychological and some grow out of the situation. Most of the times it happens to be a
combination of all. A serious loss, chronic illness, difficult relationship, bereavement, financial
problem or any unwelcome change in lifestyle or patterns can also trigger a depressive episode. Some
people are physically and biologically more at risk for depression because of biological vulnerability
to depression can be inherited. Other factors are the possibility or stressful environment and other
psychosocial factors (Center).
Along depression there are symptoms; symptoms are the side effects of the illness. Symptoms are in
action when depressed and they are able to last for days, months even years when depression goes
untreated (Center). There are many symptoms that people can experience and some may not
experience them at all. Depression can cause physical symptoms such

Application And Application Of Input Controls
Introduction Most firms try their best to protect the data entry process in their companies. As a result,
the current computing platforms come with a variety of applications. Some applications come with
forms, which expect a user to fill in particular details. To use them, consumers require various
interactive components to help them maneuver a page and operate applications. Besides, most website
pages will incorporate input controls into their forms to help consumers utilize applications
conveniently. The user interfaces will ensure that data entered is secure, safe, complete, and accurate.
In this context, users can enter data online or through automated processing platforms. According to
Veatch and Senning (2009), Input controls refer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, the focus should be on elements that promote the control of data accuracy and quality for
the sake of protecting users entering details on the pages. Without user controls, it is likely that the
implementation of data integrity while filling out forms would be impossible. In addition, they help in
the evaluation of data saved in databases, as they ensure that all elements are presented in the same
format. Presentation of data in a similar format makes it simpler to assess and ensure that data
compiled is homogenous in nature. Finally, the validation rules and check routines utilized in input
control functions ensure that data entered in a system is correct and meaningful (Perspective Pixel
Inc., 2014). Such processes guarantee that data presented by users filling a form make sense and is of
a rich quality to the organization in need of the data values entered.
Types and Functions of Input Controls The type of input control utilized is dependent on its function
on a page. Additionally, organizations employ particular user controls with the aim of limiting data
types; hence, facilitate easier manipulation of sent data. In the event that multiple type set of questions
is required for purposes of more accessible analyzes, there is the introduction of different types of
input controls. The input controls help in achieving data accuracy, as

What Are The Stereotypes Of Boys And Girls
Ever since birth your parents choice the gender, from pink or blue to the toys you play when you were
younger to even who was acceptable to hang out with. Boys and girls have always had different roles
growing up. Boys are suppose to be the tough and strong person who didn t ever need help with
anything and girls were always the weak ones who always needed someone to help or save them. Its
all how society told us how to grow up, women and men both share something in common and that s
how society says how we should look, women just have it a little harder. Starting at a young age girls
are already being pressured to be perfect , the models ,the magazine covers, all reveal a completely
impossible body image. Not because their parents may have had what some people call good genes...
No, it s the photo shop and all the editing and weight lose that sometimes they have to lose just to get
a certain role. They are not happy with it. They look nothing like they do in photos or movies or

flaws whatsoever, they feel if they don t look a certain way the guys wont take the time to look their
direction that no one would like them that s where the depression and self harm comes into play and

The Three Major Aspects Of Industrialization From 1865 To...
There are three major aspects of industrialization from 1865 to 1920 that influenced U.S. society,
economy and politics. These are urbanization, working conditions and laissez faire government.
Urbanization created cities who offered large numbers of workers for new factories. In turn, more
factories were built. Workers, both native born and immigrants, moved to cities looking for jobs.
Industrialism and post industrialism let to a decline in patriarchy within the family because of the
changes that were made to society.
The birth of the Industrial Revolution had one staggering advantage, even to the most distanced and
skeptical farmer: a living could be made that was not subject to climate changes. Therefore, a man
could actually be assured of regular, dependable wages. This did not, however, translate into a vast
emigration of farmers to the new cities. An economy based upon agriculture is altogether distinct from
an industrial one. The former is dependent upon the unpredictable elements of nature and the weather,
the consequences of which could lead to ruin and famine. Indispensable to this growth and
development were an unprecedented surge in immigration and urbanization after the Civil War.
American society was in transition. The industrial revolution meant more money and wealth for the
upper classes, especially the owners of large companies. It was thought that the wealth would be
invested back into new factories, so the Americans accepted this wealth distribution.

Eleanor Atwood was raised by Carl Edmund and Margaret Dorothy Atwood ( Atwood, Margaret 1939
. Concise Major 21st Century Writers). Born in Ottawa and raised in Toronto she spent the larger part
of her youth in Canada ( Atwood, Margaret (1939 ). Gothic Literature: A Gale Critical Companion).
As a young child she was raised in an intellectually stimulating environment and was encouraged to
pursue a life in which education is highly valued ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and
Commonwealth Poets). Her childhood played a pivotal role in her future life, including her works,
beliefs, and goals. Raised by an entomologist, her fondness of nature most was likely extended to her
from her father through means of family trips to the isolated safe havens of Quebec and Ontario.
These locations were the subject of her father s study and research ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish,
and Commonwealth Poets). From the year 1957 to 1961 she worked on her undergraduate degree in
English at Victoria college at the University of Toronto. Whilst studying there, Atwood became
influenced by Canadian poet Jay MacPherson and by Northrop Frye. They encouraged Atwood to
write poetry in her early writing career and pointed her toward using biblical and mythological
symbols and archetype, which are still prevalent in her writing ( Atwood, Margaret. British, Irish, and

Expansion Of Westward Expansion
The westward expansion can be marked by a tremendous expansion of industry and agriculture as well
as the spread of settlements across the continent. The population of the United states was said that it
doubled during this period. Most of the growth was concentrated in the plain states across the
continent as well as the Northeast and Midwest. The Northeast became the front runner in the
industrial aspect of the land while the south remained mostly agricultural.
The west had much to offer and was one of the most sought after land after the discovery of gold in
California resulting in an influx of people lured in by the hopes of striking it rich. With so many
people traveling across the United States the trade and travel across suddenly became more important.
With more traveling westward with high hopes, it became ever apparent the need of a railroad system.
The Transcontinental railroad plan was now becoming important now more than ever.
The completion of the Transcontinental railroad marks a major milestone of the history of the United
States. The railroad beginnings lead back to congress approving multiple survey parties to investigate
routes eventually leading to no avail as no one could decide whether to take a northern or southern
route. On July 1, 1862, Lincoln signed the Pacific Railway Act, authorizing land grants and
government bonds, which amounted to $32,000 per mile of track laid, to two companies, the Central
Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific

The Stereotypical Black Woman Essay
Images in media, television especially, are a direct projection of the people who control and project
them, which often tends to be white people. We face the problems of images projected by people not
of us, she said. The media is the most powerful mind manipulating tool on the earth. (Ruby, 18) The
perception of black women in the media today can be damaging to the self image of the young black
women of today. During the Black Arts Movement, many artists and poets spoke of how white
influence in our lives has created skewed beauty ideals in the African American community. This
white influence tends to harm black women s images of themselves. Most female images seen in

Through history, culture, and media, Black women have most often been portrayed in some
combination of three images: (1) as highly maternal, family oriented, and self sacrificing Mammies;
(2) as threatening and argumentative Sapphires; and (3) as seductive, sexually irresponsible,
promiscuous Jezebels. (West, 1) The stereotypical black woman is also often loud, angry, and over the
top, which has been used to add humor to today s television programming and a lot of today s media.
Even though today, images of black women are more common than in the past the same stereotypes
remain. The mammy can often be seen as asexual, larger dark skinned black women who takes on a no
nonsense maternal role. Mammy, one of the most pervasive images of Black women, originated in the
South during slavery...Physically, she was depicted as a bandanna clad, obese, dark complexioned
woman with African features. Her primary role was domestic service, characterized by long hours of
work with little or no financial compensation. Subordination, nurturance, and constant self sacrifice
were expected as she performed her domestic duties (Jewell, 1993). (West, 1) The mammy usually has
a role in which she is serving such as the character Minnie Jackson in the controversial Oscar
nominated film The Help. Mammy stemming from the word mother is a stereotype that reaches all the

Essay on Racism
Discrimination Racism
Racism, the belief that one race possesses inherent traits that make that particular race superior, or
racial prejudice. Discrimination has always been an issue globally, and within our nation. While it was
more commonly accepted and practiced decades ago, it is still quite prominent in the hearts of many
people worldwide and is demonstrated through their behavior. It was common practice to keep slaves,
or people who submit entirely to another s will, for work, and other duties. Slaveholding was allowed
in the United States until 1865, when Amendment XIII was ratified. The date June 19th, 1865 is when

Regardless of any actions, any laws, written, spoken, or left unsaid, a mark has been made in the
minds of all people, whether their ancestors were enslaved, or slave owners, rich, poor, racist, or civil
rights activist, as a result of what has taken place in the past. People still consciously and
unconsciously are racist, make race related comments, and stereotype based on nationality, religion,
skin color, sexual affiliation, and gender, this is generally not a good thing. As all people are entitled to
their own ideas or opinions, that being a civil right, I cannot say that racism is wrong entirely, but
when people are being discriminated against, harassed, or having their rights violated, that is wrong. If
someone feels the need to be racist, that s fine, just keep those ideas in your head, or go ahead and use
your right to peaceably assemble, wear swastikas, white robes and pointed caps, and talk about how
much you don t like that other guy. Usually everything a person might like or dislike, about someone
or something, is connected or related somehow to something they like or dislike about themselves.
Maybe the KKK hates blacks because they are afraid of the strength or some African Americans, for
fear they will be more efficient at a job, and thereby take away their chance as a weaker white person
to get it. Sometimes fears are irrational, and I think racism is a good example of an ignorant, or

You are all are going to witness a special milestone that will forever be in our hearts. Remember that your presence alone supports us in every way possible as we are going through a special transition today. Now, I will start my speech. A milestone. What is a milestone? Today, we are going to experience a milestone. A life milestone that all of us, in the future, will look back to and talk about how things were back then to the current lives we live in, the things we regret and the things we are proud of. We will someday, remember what this moment meant for us. But that doesn t answer what a milestone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But now that we are graduating, we are now considered a teenager, an adolescent, an alien, a young adult, and all the other names out there. We, as the 2015, grade eight graduates will be transitioning from elementary to high school, a child to an adolescent. However, graduating elementary isn t the end, it just means that we just finished a chapter of our lives or the first novel of our trilogy. The next step, which is being an actual adolescent is the second novel of our lives, it will be a new beginning we somehow need to surmount. A more complicated, difficult looking life, which actually isn t. Next year, when we are going for our first day of high school, it s a bigger world. We ll meet new people with different knowledge, doings, ethnicity, religion, race, languages and more. Personally, even I, who other people around me absolutely believe is ready for high school, think of such worries like: What if I don t get my locker open in time? What if I can t even open my locker? What if I get influenced badly in high school? What if I am late in the first day of school? What if, what if , what if. A bunch of what if s that just restrains us from being confident and proud of ourselves. Don t worry, just remember that the Holy Spirit dwells in your body and that it ll help you down the road. • 3. The United States Tax System Past Influences, the United States Tax System The Power of Tax Franklin D Roosevelt once said Taxes, after all, are dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organized society . Though the word, tax, itself has so much power the basic definition is to asses a fee against a citizen person, property, or activity for the support of the government (Tax, n.d. , para. 2). Just mentioning taxes as a headliner on a newscast will draw the public in to listen to the news. Over the years no internal revenues were collected, hence to raise money for war Congress would raise excise taxes, custom duties, and issue Treasury notes (History of the US Tax, 2003, para. 14). Civil War Influence Initially few taxes did exist in the United States, however it was not until 1862, and Congress enacted the nation s first income tax law (Brief History of IRS). During this time period the nation was going through the Civil War, and in order to support the war Congress established the office of Commissioner of the Internal Revenue (History of Income Tax). The Commissioner of 1862 still has the same obligations, thus the power to collect taxes, levy, seize property, assess, and enforce tax laws. Throughout the Civil War any person earning from $600 to $10,000 per year paid tax at the rate of three percent, while people that earned more than $10,000 paid a higher rate of five percent (History of Income Tax).Although the people who earned more were taxed at a higher rate in the course of time, a standard deduction of $600 was also enacted for rental housing, repairs, losses, and other taxes paid (History of the US Tax, 2003, para. 14). With the end of the Civil War, the necessity for the additional tax revenue began to diminish as well as public support of the individual income tax rate. Congress did eventually decrease the ... I became interested in this job in my sophomore year of high school. It all started when I attended the STEM fair after school one day. STEM fair is only offered to students who are in either the biomedical Stem academy or the engineer academy. At this fair, students tour around to different classrooms to acquire information on different careers. I attended the Physician s Assistant one, where there was an actual PA to give information on what PAs achieve. For example, PAs examine patients for diseases, injuries and illnesses. The most important elements I educated myself with during this project are the research, colleges and experience. All these can aid in becoming a Physician Assistant. First, Physician Assistants totally contradicted my thoughts before I even started researching them. For instance, I thought that one had to have straight A s to become anything in the medical field. However, I learned that having straight A s does not, as a matter of fact, show any intelligence whatsoever. Becoming a PA is strictly about how one gets the job done, not how smart a dignitary ... Also, that the court doubted whether Congress, in its wildest dreams or wildest nightmares, intended to turn every garden variety worker s compensation claim into a federal case. Based on statistical data from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), from the time the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1992, enacted to FY 1996, 71,977 individuals had filed disability charges . In a summary judgment case, a person with a qualifying disability is the first step, along with the threshold step for plaintiffs in making the prima facie case of discrimination requisite. There are two elements of the plaintiff s prima facie case (in the absence of direct evidence of discrimination) are that the plaintiff was qualified for the position, with or without accommodations, and that the plaintiff experienced the adverse action as a result of disability . It is also, found that the elements of the prima facie case may be more difficult to dismiss on motions for summary judgment, as they likely involve disputed claims about the facts. In the empirical study by Beford in 2013 , one assumption is that the ADAAA will result in fewer summary judgment rulings finding that claimants lack standing as covered individuals with a disability. • 6. Philippa Foot Double Effect Definition Philippa Foot, a philosopher, argued that moral judgments have a rational basis. The choices we make in our lives are based on a number of varying and different factors. Theories such as the principle of double effect are meant to back up the choices we make in society. The doctrine of the double effect relies strongly on the difference between what a person foresees as an outcome of their individual actions, and what they actually intended the outcome to be (Timmons, 2012, p. 93). This theory refers to two very identifiable results. The first, is that the action may produce the one aimed at , and second, the one foreseen but in no way desired. Foot further explains that oblique intention and direct intention are often determining factors in the principle of double effect. Through oblique intention, a person brings about an effect that was unintended and through direct intention a person brings about an effect intentionally (Timmons, 2012, p. 94). To support this viewpoint, Foot uses an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather, the conductor simply foresees it as an unexpected result. We do not want the death of one worker in order to save the five workers from the runaway train. In fact, it would be a relief, if the one worker can somehow free themselves in time to avoid being struck by the train. We would not if the worker fled, chased down the conductor and killed him. Furthermore, as Foot suggests, it is much worse, morally, to intentionally harm someone as a means to an end than it is to simply foresee that harm will be done to someone as an unintended side effect of one s ends. Therefore, in the case of the runaway train, it is permissible to kill the one worker because the conductor s primary intention is to save the lives of the five workers. • 7. The Symptoms Of Jenny s Condition Some of the symptoms of Jenny s condition was that she first kept a messy desk at school, in which her teachers would complain about. She then began hiding her toys from her father and thus, became very emotionally attached to them. After she was put on medication for her ADHD, she was having troubles making simple decisions such as what to wear for the day, and had extreme troubles with throwing away boxes, in which she justified that she knew they would come in handy for something one day (34). Jenny began making excuses like this for other irrational hoarding behaviors, such as keeping the original packaging for her toys because, she knew that an item would typically sell at a higher price if it were in the original packaging (34). She had anxiety when she thought about losing these types of items, and even had an emotional breakdown when her mother threw away all of her toilet paper rolls. Once she became engaged, she began to become obsessed with wedding planning, which then turned her office into a mess. Even after she had kids, she continued collecting things that she believed were important, refusing to throw away anything, which only took over their whole house. She would even constantly buy items off Ebay or Amazon to hoard. All of these dynamic symptoms combined, described hoarding disorder, identified within the book, which is excessive acquisition and difficultying discarding items, which results in extreme clutter in the living environment. Carriella Starnes Emory Henry College Over a century ago Eugene Goldwasser and Takaji Miyake worked together in Chicago to synthesize the human hormone erythropoietin, better known as EPO. It took over 10 years for EPO to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration to be used solely for patients with anemia. EPO is naturally produced by the kidneys and is sensitive to the oxygen levels in the blood. When oxygen levels are too low, EPO is released and stimulates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells. In the 2004 Olympic games they solely used urine samples to test for synthetic EPO (or rhEPO) in the system, which proved to be a much more accurate way to get results ( EPO detection , 2015). Now there are more ways than one to obtain higher levels of EPO. More recently the use of hyperbaric chambers has increased in use by athletes. Hyperbaric chambers increase our oxygen intake from 25% to around 50% by forcing pure oxygen into the lungs which increases oxygen delivery, and thus recovery time is shortened ( Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for athletes , 2015). Many professional athletes have used these chambers to assist in injury recovery and recuperation after performances. These aren t just used for athletes, though; hyperbaric chambers work very well to aid in the management of diseases like chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson s disease, and rehabilitation after surgeries (Howell, n.d.). A tool that may be a little more common is an elevation training mask; these masks are designed to simulate training in higher altitudes by restricting the amount of air one can breathe in. Zoning and other methods of land use control have evolved with the primary objectives of promoting the health, safety, and wellbeing of residents while minimizing the negative impacts of one activity or use upon others. Zoning is effectively a legislative process whereby a community prioritizes values associated with land, development, and associated activities. This set of rules primarily focused on building form and setbacks, and included a now routine provision for variances. Although short story symbols were not the easiest to identify, the symbols in poems are sometimes even harder to determine. Poems also include metaphors, imagery, a certain tone, and always have a set audience. Lyrics are the most obvious type of poetry to date. A song has a rhythm and when the lyrics are sung to the beat a poem is created. Lyrics are not the only form of poetry. There are many different forms poetry can take on. Sonnets are probably the second most known form of poetry. Sonnets are made up of 14 lines, have end rhyme, and have a meter. There are two main forms of a sonnet; Shakespearean (English) and Petrarchan (Italian). The Italian sonnet was created by a man named Petrarch in the 14th century. This sonnet is made up of an octave (8 lines) and a sestet (6 lines) adding up to the sonnets grand total of 14 lines. A Volta, or dramatic change in the emotion, comes after the octave. The theme of the Petrarchan sonnet can generally be found within the ending sestet. Two centuries later a new type of sonnet was born. The Shakespearean sonnet was created by none other than the late William Shakespeare. The English sonnet is made up of three quatrains (4 lines) and an ending couplet (2 lines) creating the iconic 14 lines. The Volta comes after the 3rd quatrain leaving the couplet as the space for the poems theme. Both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maya Angelou s the Graduation Maya Angelou s The Graduation Throughout life we go through many stepping stones, Maya Angelou s autobiographical essay Graduation , was about more than just moving on to another grade. The unexpected events that occurred during the ceremony enabled her to graduate from the views of a child to the more experienced and sometimes disenchanting views of an adult. Upon reading the story there is an initial feeling of excitement and hope which was quickly tarnished with the awareness of human prejudices. The author vividly illustrates many mood changes she undergoes throughout the story. Don Leavy s speech caused a fury to start boiling inside of the author due to the assumed fact that she has lost control over her future. The accomplishment was nothing. , she has already been picked to act and assume a certain role in society. Anything they aspired for other than maids or farmers was farcial and presumtous. Along with this fury came frustration. This frustration is like a blanket that is too short to cover you, no matter how much you stretch and pull, it never covers you whole. This is now what was consuming her mind. For the moment she had to sit there and listen to the garbage filling the room, listen to charges brought against my color. What had been beautiful, was now ugly. She hated the human race for what it had become, a race or mass of people concreted on bias. The ceremony that had started out as a night of hope had now become an eternity of hopelessness. Moving from a childlike bliss to an awakening of the world s prejudice, the author makes the words take on flesh. The story is made alive as she breathes life into a time that is unpleasant yet not void of hope. The hush hush magic time of frills and gifts and congratulations disappeared when they were told the cold hard `truth of their fate that some white man had already decided for them. ... • 17. The Gap Between The Rich And Poor Essay I was born and brought up in Nairobi, Kenya. Demographically, my family was typically part of Kenya s urban poor. As a young boy, I was constantly confronted by the realities and debilitating impact of poverty. At the age of twelve, I was transferred from a Nairobi based primary school to a boarding primary school in rural Kenya where I eventually excelled and emerged the best in the district during national examinations, earning me admission to one of the best high schools in the country. While in high school, I not only developed my leadership skills as a school prefect and a deputy school captain but also discovered new talent as I went on to become a national champion in national operatic music competitions. Talent and education opened up my eyes to a world of possibilities and opportunities beyond my imagination. Nonetheless, the reality of the gap between the rich and poor remained stark in darker shades of black and lighter shades of white. To me, the root and the problem of poverty was no longer shrouded in a gray shroud of mystery. It dawned on me that education a necessary condition to the emancipation of the poor from the shackles of hopeless travail. It was through education that, for the first time, options were laid out in front of me. I could choose a different future for myself and my future offspring. I could fathom a flat world, one that presented equal opportunity to all, regardless of tribe, gender or social background. I could choose to be part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Workers, both native born and immigrants, moved to cities looking for jobs. Industrialism and post industrialism let to a decline in patriarchy within the family because of the changes that were made to society. The birth of the Industrial Revolution had one staggering advantage, even to the most distanced and skeptical farmer: a living could be made that was not subject to climate changes. Therefore, a man could actually be assured of regular, dependable wages. This did not, however, translate into a vast emigration of farmers to the new cities. An economy based upon agriculture is altogether distinct from an industrial one. The former is dependent upon the unpredictable elements of nature and the weather, the consequences of which could lead to ruin and famine. Indispensable to this growth and development were an unprecedented surge in immigration and urbanization after the Civil War. American society was in transition. The industrial revolution meant more money and wealth for the upper classes, especially the owners of large companies.
