The Little Grand Canyon In The 1800 s
Have you ever heard of the Little Grand Canyon? The providence canyon was not even a canyon
it was a dense forest. That all changed when farmers moved into the area in the 1800 s They
stared growing crop and cotton. Well the Little Grand Canyon is where the testament to the man s

made there by poor farming practices in the 1800 s. , When the framers was cutting down trees and
everything they did not realize that this that these traditional farming methods was initiating a

Bronfenbrenner s Bioecological Model Psychology
My ability to enact change whether on a large or small scale has always been a motivating factor
for me, which is ultimately why I chose to pursue psychology. Often I feel compelled to intervene
in a problem whether it directly affects me or not in order to change the outcome for the greater
good. I will provide a narrative of each activity, the system or systems involved in that activity, and
the impact on human behaviorusing either Bronfenbrenner s bioecological model, which focuses
on the impact of five separate but interwoven systems and how they affect human development or

I ve only been doing it for a short time, but in the scenarios that I ve handled, majority of those
texting in were a part of a traditional nuclear family with a majority of the crises directly
involving the familial unit which is the foundation of Carter and McGoldrick s family life cycle
model (1988). Family stress and transitions are extremely impactful to an individual s growth
and well being, with disruptions in the life cycle creating dysfunction (Carter McGoldrick,
1988). I communicate primarily with teenagers, those in the adolescent stage, who at this point
desire more independence and less family involvement in their day to day lives. During this
stage, the parent child relationship is truly tested because the parent still wants to assert their
dominance and authority while the child wants to have the freedom to explore the world around
them and try new things so that they are able to uncover who they really are as individuals. This
tug of war creates conflict and tension which affects the family as a whole as well as the
adolescent child. Texters often discuss experiencing horizontal or predictable and unpredictable
real life events that exert stress on every person involved. Examples of horizontal stressors
include the decision of their parents to divorce, having to move away from their friends and
start over in a new place, or the loss of a parent s job and the impact of the financial strain
associated with it (Carter McGoldrick, 1988). Many of the individuals who text in eventually
share that their parents are directly affected by the stressor and aren t handling it well, possibly
due to behaviors passed on to them by their parents, lack of support, or lack of coping skills and
will take that stress out on their child or children. The assertion of power creates a dysfunctional

Suggested Strategy for Central High School
Needs Assessment As chair of the committee charged with the recommendation for the purchase
of new computer equipment, I will detail a suggested plan for this $50,000 project at Central
High School. The high school has 1000 students in four grade levels (9th through 12th), and has
approximately 60 and 20 supporting staff. An inventory of the computers at the whole school
was conducted to understand what is currently available. There is currently one computer lab
per grade level in the school with 22 computers each, allowing for each grade use of this for one
period per day. There are also two computers in each classroom (one for student use, one for
teacher use) as well as a bank of computers in the library. There are also individual computers for
the guidance counselors, nurse, principals and assistant principals, and office staff. As the
inventory was being done, a survey was passed out to all of the staff asking where the needs
were greatest and what specific equipment was lacking. The overwhelming desire of the majority
of the teachers was more computers in the individual classrooms, specifically in the math and
science rooms as a lot of current information was required and there was a lot of competition for
its use. There was a great desire to be flexible and move the computer from place to place, such
that a laptop computer or tablet computer was preferred over a desktop. Market Research In order
to take the needs of the school and convert that into a proposal, I

Statute Of Limitations In Criminal Law
Across the United States, many criminal courts have created a rule known as statute of limitations.
Statute of limitations sets forth a time limit to raising a legal issue in order to not only maintain
the integrity of evidence gathered for the trial, but to also protect people from being harassed about
a crimethat was never tried a long time ago. In order to begin a criminal case within statute of
limitations, a prosecutor must bring forth formal charges against a defendant within a specific
amount of time after a crime is first discovered by law enforcement. The amount of time that a
prosecutor can file criminal charges against a defendant depends on the crime s classification
under the federal or state criminal code. Because of the different classifications of crimes in
criminal codes, there are several forms of time limitations that prosecutors should know before
deciding to file criminal charges against a defendant.
The first type of offense is known as an infraction. In the criminal code, infractions are crimes that
carry a punishment of paying a fine ( Felonies, Misdemeanors and Infractions: The Differences ,
n.d.). Once law enforcement discovers this type of offense, the prosecutor is given exactly six
months to file charges against the defendant ( Time Limits for Charges: State Criminal Statutes of
Limitations , n.d.). Some examples of infractions can include citations for parking violations,
running a red light, and speeding.
The next type of offense is known as

Voyeurism In The Hunger Games
Voyeurism, or obsessive act of watching and living through sordid acts, and spectacles, a thing put
to the public for show, are things that are seen daily by Americans. Examples of this are found all
throughout history as entertainment, television, books, and news are filled to the brim with this
violent and sordid information and fictions that people seem to consume by the bucket full. This
can be defined as Panem et Circenses or simply bread and circuses, This term describes the way
ancient Roman government systems would operate to distract the citizens with entertainment,
circuses, and food or information, bread to stop them from noticing the corruption and pain around
them. Dispute this idea being used during this time, it was carried... Show more content on

The book shows a dystopian world where society has gotten to a point where they send two
children from 12 districts, between the ages of 12 to 18 into a game where they fight to the death
until one is left, for Panem s, but mostly the Capitol s entertainment. This concept is very similar
to the gladiatorial games in how they would sent volunteers and forced slaves into arena where
they fight to the death. This alike was used for entertainment for the citizens, but also as a meaning
of distraction, such as the games in Panem. Now, people today are not even close to this barbarism,
right? Wrong, Americans are very close to this level, it may not be necessarily murder but violent
and overdramisation published on the internet and television is happening today. A quote from
Panem et Circenses by Carrie Ryan, she argues, [T]he only difference between us [Americans]
and the viewers in the Capitol is that we have agency to turn off the television at any time . This
quote states how in reality television that our society watches, we see the trainwrecks and
horrors go down, in sports, we watch the big hit and injuries over and over again. But unlike the
Capitol, where they must watch this basically murder, our society chooses to keep the show on,
to give it more views, more money, which keeps it going on. Even if it lies, and deceives, we

The Death Of My Mother
When I was a child, I dreamt about being a doctor helping others. I knew at the early age of 7
that I wanted to make a difference in others lives. After the death of my mother in 1999, I slowly
changed my mind about what I wanted to do with my life. I told myself that I would do
whatever it took to help bring justice for families that go through what I went through with the
death of my mother. As I was going through college I realized that criminal justice wasn t for me
after working in the field. I sat there one day wondering what I would do next and I realized I
have a passion for helping others; and I love babies, so why not use that to my advantage. That is
how I ended up here at Southern Careers Institute pursuing a career in the... Show more content on

Through Deaf Eyes Review Essay
In Through Deaf Eyes you will find a range of perspective on the question what is deafness? This
film is a balanced presentation of deaf experience. I believe that the film does a good job of
revealing the struggles and triumphs of deaf people in society throughout history. The
documentary covers a span of close to 200 years of deaf life in the United States. You will see
experiences among deaf people in education, family life, work, and social activities. Sign language
is language that uses visual hand patterns to convey a meaning without using any vocal. It truly is a
superb way of communication, although it was not always accepted in society. Wherever
communities of deaf people exist, sign language develops. There was no... Show more content on

I wasn t expecting that. After viewing the movie I understand better now why even if some deaf
people can use their voices, they don t because it seems like it would lead to a one way
conversation. Although the hearing person would understand what the deaf person was
conveying, the deaf person would not be able to understand the hearing person without lip
reading or using sign language. I laughed at the part of the movie where the deaf comedian was
talking about an incident that he had while driving a car. A man was aggressively driving and
beeping at the deaf man driving his car. When this man passed the deaf man, he said, What are
you deaf? The deaf man who spoke and signed telling the story said he drove up to him and said,
Yes, I am deaf! Although I laughed, it is offensive to the deaf individuals using the word deaf in
such a negative way. People who are hard of hearing are people and should be esteemed as such.
Deaf people living in a hearing world have certainly made their mark in the hearing community.
Deaf people can do anything that hearing people can do. The band shown in the film called
Beethoven s Nightmare caused quite a stir in our class. I think that we were simply amazed that
deaf musicians could play so well. By showing the audience this experience, it provides hearing
viewers with the knowledge that this type of event does occur within the deaf community and that
the deaf can appreciate

Corruption Of The Church In The Canterbury Tales
The powerful grow more powerful through the actions of the people. Geoffrey Chaucer opposes the
all powerful 14th century Catholic church in The Canterbury Tales. His displeasure resulted in the
actions and practices of church officials. In The Canterbury Tales, individuals representing clergy
members extort money, and sin for the gain of wealth within the church. Chaucer uses
characterizations and language in The Canterbury Talesto express his displeasure and opposition
with the 14th century Catholic church s practices. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer expresses a
distaste with Catholic ideals and hypocrisy during the 14th century. His distaste shows in the
characterizations of the pilgrims that represent the clergy. Each member of the clergy has a
characteristic that represents their corruption. In Ideas And Institutions In European History
800 1715 by Mendenhall, an idea forms about the church and its corrupt ways. Each
representative of the church embraces the idea of one true church and puts emphasis on the
aforementioned, which allows the clergy to place a monopoly on salvation (Mendenhall, 25).
The idea of gaining salvation from only one church or religion increases the ability of that
church to extort money in exchange for forgiveness and salvation. The money then goes into the
pockets of the clergy. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer expresses the overwhelming wealth of
the church through characterization of the Monk. Traditionally, Monks vow to a life of poverty,
chastity, and obedience as outlined in the Catholic Encyclopedia (1913). However, the Monk as
described in The Canterbury Tales lives a life of nonpareil was he, who rode, as steward of his
monastery, the country round; a lover of good sport, a manly man fit to be an abbot (Chaucer, 7).
The Monk lives an uncharacteristically comfortable life that allows him time to hunt and enjoy
lavish food and clothes. His lifestyle contradicts the traditional values of a Monk and therefore,
symbolizes the church and their frivolous nature. Furthermore, The Monk is described as fit to be
an abbot or head Monk, however, this contradicts the Monk s lack of consideration for his vows to
a life of poverty and obedience considering his opposition to the

Personal Reflection Of My Humor Style And Mental Health
As humans, laughing and joking is something that comes natural. This is something that we have
been doing even before we knew how to walk or talk. As we start to grow up, we all develop
personality traits and our humor styles follow. Before taking this course, I have never consider
identifying what my humorstyles are until now. I took the Humor Style Questionnaire (Martin et
al. 2003) and calculated that my top humor style is self enhancing and closely following is
affiliative. Throughout this paper I am going to reflect on my top humor styles with personal
examples, and how it relates to my mental health, with several methods I can use to make myself
healthier and happier. I will also be considering the other two styles and how then do not relate to
my humor style and mental health. My top humor style is self enhancing. According to the Humor
Styles Questionnaire (Martin et al. 2003) I am 5.2 points away from the women s average, that is
a 36.8 for this style. According to an article that I found, Individual differences in uses of humor
and their relation to psychological well being: Development of the Humor Styles Questionnaire,
people with self enhancing humor style have a humorous outlook on life and tend to be amused by
its incongruities. Even when a person that has this style is faced with stress and adversities, they
still maintain a humorous outlook (Kuiper, Martin, Olinger, 1993).
When I first realized that this is my top humor style I was a bit surprised, I

Drama And Themes Of Drama
DRAMA AND THEMES
Drama by definition is a play, movie, television show, or radio show that is about a serious
subject and is not meant to make the audience laugh (Webster). Race, social class, and gender
very often are major story lines for films in the category of drama. A drama can be based on
several aspects, including but not limited to reality and novels and cross over into several other
genres of movies. Very often, we see drama crossed with comedy, action, romance, etc., in turn
making it the most common genre of movies (Dirks, 2015). Drama focuses on realistic characters
with a realistic story line, high intensity special effects are not usually prevalent in dramas. The
Help, A Christmas Carol, Mr. Mom, are the dramas chosen that I feel depict race, social class, and
gender representation each at a very different level, based on the time period implied in the movie.
COMMONALITIES AND CHOSEN ISSUES
If I am going to see a movie based on a novel I have read, for example, The Help, I have a
preconceived notion of what this movie is going to be about and expectations based on the
previews prior to entering the movie theater. An additional spin on this movie, which often makes
the actors and directors work more difficult, the book became popular prior to the movie being
created. Very often when books are in place prior to the movie, readers have visualizations of what
the characters look like, how they will sound, etc. The Help is categorized as a drama, and

As a result, it does not define the competitive environment. Most of the ideals that Coca Cola lists

Bromination Of Trans-Cinnamic Acid And Trans-Stilbene.
Bromination of trans cinnamic acid and trans stilbene
INTRODUCTION
Determining how a mechanism takes place is crucial in order to define a mechanism. In this
experiment, a mechanism was determined based on the purified product s melting point. This was
accomplished by comparing the acquired melting point with the one provided by Professor Link.
(Q1) When 0.252 g of trans cinnamic acid was mixed in 2.5 mL glacial acetic acid and introduced
to 0.434g pyridinium tribromide, the resulting product reflects an addition reaction. In general,
reactions take place to achieve its lowest Gibb s free energy because it s at this point where a
structure is most stable; in this case, the reaction is an addition of bromine into alkenes. (Q2) ...

The melting point range was close to the anti structure, but because it was a widened range it is
speculated that the syn structure was also present. (Q9) However, this does not mean the other
mechanisms are completely discarded. Upon recrystallizing the pure product, a gross mistake
potentially skewed the results; non DI water from the ice bath was introduced to the crystallized
product by mistake. Recrystallization of the pure product was redone, but random ions from the
ice bath could have infiltrated the crystal lattice of the pure product thereby widening the
melting range. Also, the melting range could have been affected by the temperature intervals
used; time was running out and the Digi Melt was programmed to increase in intervals of 10В°C
instead of 5В°C. This could have affected the melting range observed significantly; slow and
steady probes to be a better method. (Q10) Both the percent yield (106.5%) and recovery
(54.75%) are not ideal numbers; ideally, percentages should be close to 100% but not over or
under. As mentioned above, (in Q9), a gross mistake occurred where non DI water got into the
pure product as it was recrystallizing; the flask s buoyancy caused it to tip over and the non DI
water from the ice bath got inside the pure product. This affected the data as electrolytes from the
ice bath could now be part of the crystal lattice of the pure

How Healthcare Is An Important Industry That Is Always Needed
Healthcare is an important industry that is always needed. Like other industries, it has to start
somewhere. Organizations have to be planned, opened, and organized, healthcare providers ,
managers, and other employees need to be hired, and much more. One of the most important
employees within an organization is the compensation specialist. Compensation specialists
supervise and manage the employee compensation programs within an organization. Some of the
common responsibilities include: developing the organization s pay structure, managing and
improving all bonus or commissions, and preparing job descriptions (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst,
2013). According to Samantha Smith, a compensation specialist for Rocky Mountain Sleep Clinic,
the process of determining an employee s salaryis rather long and time consuming. She says that
there are five steps she follows to develop the salaries within the organization. First she must
review her own pay practice to help determine the budget of the company. Once this is completed,
she must determine the definition and description of each job, which is later used to advertise the
position during the hiring process. A proper description of each position allows for the applicants
to understand what they are applying for. Employees also know what is expected of them after
reading the job description. It is also important to track the competition. Salaries will vary by
organization, position, and employee, but knowing where the

Property Ownership In My Woods
Property ownership is a positive aspect because it can teach strong values. While E.M. Forster
does point out some of the negative aspects of property ownerships in his essay My Woods .
However, I believe that with property ownership comes many beneficial opportunities that cannot
be achieved if property is rented from others rather than owned. Land ownershipand home

ownership of land is a good thing. The benefits of land and home ownership is that it can create a

Curtis Lemay s Strategic Bombing Analysis
The responsibility of dropping the bombs rests on the shoulders of a President Truman, an

experts lobbying for their input to be heard in the debate on the decision to use nuclear bombs

Chiefs of Staff, JCS, predicted that Japan would fall in an additional 18 months of war. The
various branches of the military had competing arguments for the best way to end the war in the

Fourth of July. It is pitch black and everyone is waiting for the sky s performance. The patriotic

Clara Machumann Piano Symphony
Robert Schumann (1810 1856) was a Romantic Era composer who composed the Piano Quintet,
Op.44 in 1842. Clara Schumann is said to be the inspiration behind this piece. The Piano Quintet is
seen as not only Robert Schumann s best compositions but is also the best in Western music and
chamber music created during the romantic era. The Piano Quintet is a piece dedicated and inspired
by Clara Schumann, one of the leading pianists of the Romantic Era and Robert Schumanns wife.
This piece incorporates musical signatures with deep significance for the Schumanns (Potter,
Naxos.com). Throughout the piece aspects of Clara are heard that represent both her talent as a
piano player and of her private self that only Robert knew. According to Hans Kohlhase, the quintet
commemorates the painful four and a half years during which Robert and Clara were forbidden by
her father to marry (qtd. in Potter). Robert Schumann was able to capture all of... Show more

As a result of the Piano Quintet being composed for both a piano quintet and string quartet, a
listener of the piece would be able to feel the emotion that Schumann put into this piece. The
contrast of the piano against the violins really allows the listener to take in the music. The first
movement literally translates to a fast tempo, between allegretto and vivace, and bright/sparkling

beautifully placed dynamics. The second movement is the slower funeral march with a lyrical main
theme played by the violin and cello, and a second theme played by the piano with string

second movement. The finale movement magnificently makes a call back to the theme of the first
movement, thus bring the whole piece

Knee valgus during the drop jump test (DJT) has reliably been used to predict risk of ACL

movements. The participants included 22 female handball and soccer players who were
instructed to perform five sidestep cuts and three vertical drop jumps. The purpose of this was to
find the difference in the knee valgus angles between six thigh marker clusters, and then to find
the impact of those on the cross talk effect between them. The drop jump test was performed
using a 30 centimeter box and participants performed a maximal jump after landing.
Measurements of knee valgus were taken during the contact phase and initial contact and were
compared using the six different thigh markers. During the drop jump test, there was about a 15
degree of peak valgus between the marker sets. There seemed to be varied cross talk between the
two tests. This was the first study to quantify the differences in knee valgus between these two

Ethics of compassion To help explain the ethics of compassion I will be using reference from the
Dalia Lama s book Ethics for the New Millennium, more specifically chapter ten; The Need for
Discernment, and chapter 5 The Supreme Emotion. I will also refer to Touching Peace, and the
five mindfulness trainings. The Dalia Lama had so many strong points it was hard to find any
criticisms in his philosophies. One thing that concerned me was how he recognizes people who
kill and torture for pleasure. The other point he made that came across as weaker to me or
somewhat questionable is that we are to question whether our motive is genuinely compassionate

The Dalai Lama felt this to be entirely appropriate, and very necessary, In that it shows two sides
of human potential. I agree with him on this completely and I think the fact they made this
memorial like this makes it more than just a memorial, it is also art. The Dalia Lama wants us to
understand that the existence of negative potential does not give us grounds to suppose that
human nature is inherently violent. The next question to think about is, what about those who
kill and torture for pleasure? Here he is talking about people like Hilter, Stalin, Mao, and Pol
Pot. In these types of people there is a lacking of the basic impulse toward care and affection for
others. There is a commonality between all of them, that their schemes were carried out in
accordance to a perverted vision. They all have goals towards which they were working. The Dalia
Lama wants us to understand that killers come from a particular society, time and place. Also we
should recognize the role of the imaginative faculty in their actions. Although I can understand
these things, I think it comes awful close to making excuses for the horrible actions that these
people have been in charge of. By the use to which this faculty is put determines whether actions it

Summary of Theodore Sizer’s “Horace’s

Sizer s book, Horace s Compromise: The Dilemma of the American High School, is a fictional
story that represents the reality of the true educational system. The main character, Horace Smith,
is a highly respected English teacher at Franklin High School who is facing the dilemma of many
reality educators; the affects of the very controlled, standardized system of high school. Horace is at
the age when many teachers are near retirement; however, he isn t leaving anytime soon. Sizer

The passage goes on to talk about how little the ratio is between teacher and student, for the
standardized system does not allow it. By requiring that everyone follows a steady curriculum
adapted to a student s supposed capability, crowding classrooms and misplacing many students in
classes that are below their potential. Horace claims that Pigeonholing honors, regular, and
special needs students sets up the self fulfilling prophecies. Oh no, Mr. Smith, I couldn t take
AP English. I m not an honors student... This suggests that many students are not encouraged to
work up to a higher potential, for they are bunched in between several other students in same
level class as they are, limiting the teacher s ability to get to know the student and his or her
capabilities. Horace expresses this opinion with the reflection that In any event, there are too
many to absorb. May as well treat em all the same. Or accept someone else s judgment about how
swift a kid is, and go with it. Expect more, expect less. He also speaks for the teachers when he
says Compromise with your common sense: the kids are different, but we can t admit it, even to
ourselves. Horace also believes that the school s curriculum is unorganized due to the set standards,
stating that subjects are ...poorly defined and each of which is planned in almost total isolation

Rhetorical Analysis Of Hoop Dreams Directed By Steve James
The purpose of the documentary Hoop Dreams directed by Steve James, is to show how people
from different backgrounds can create their own destiny based on the choices they make for
themselves. The beginning of the documentary introduces the viewers to William Gates and Arthur
Agee s aspiring dreams to become NBA basketball players. Steve James uses rhetorical and
cinematic techniques to achieve this purpose.
In the beginning of the film, James begins by using the indirect interview technique with William

The middle of the documentary reflects the different values and paths the characters begin to
make for themselves. Steve James begins using other cinematic techniques like a point of view
shot in order to show the relationship between Arthur s strained relationship with his father.
There is a scene where Arthur watches his dad buy drugs near the basketball court. The point of
shot helped appeal to ethos, because the viewers were able to relate to Arthur s sadness and
loneliness more easily. James uses sad non diegetic music to show how bad Arthur s home life
has gotten. The music plays when Arthur s mom talks about losing her job, which signifies how
traumatic this event is. Steve James uses a primary footage technique to show how Arthur has
lost focus in school. The footage shows Arthur goofing off in class with his troubled friend. The
technique helps show how Arthur s life is slowly falling apart, and how his values and motivation
have shifted and not for the better. Meanwhile, William is being helped financially in his new
school which is keeping him motivated to succeed. The director uses the non diegetic music
technique to show how well William is doing on the new basketball team. The purpose of this is
to show how William is succeeding in his new school. Steve James also uses

Video Games And Its Effects On Female Characters
Throughout the world women are depicted to be oversexualized among forms of media such as
video games and comic books. The idea of oversexualization towards female characters is that
they have been often drawn and animated in hypersexual ways. Even going as far as viewing
them as a sex object, their revealing body images are eye candy through the eyes of men. Hence
women found in comic books and video games are frequently emphasized by their excessive
physical appearances, objectification, portrayal, and character role.
So, what does oversexualize mean anyway? The term oversexualize defines as to sexualize
excessively, which means to make something of sexual that is beyond degree in this case, a person
or someone of a gender whether male or female can be oversexualized. To begin with, costumes
that female characters wear are far more or less provocative clothes, but mainly towards sexually
explicit ways. For example, Ivy Valentine comes from a video game series called Soul Calibur
who is the first character to have a revealing outfit and in which her costumes appears to be a
dominatrix style. Furthermore, she shows a huge amount of cleavage with her exposed thighs
and hips despite wearing high boots and long gloves which indicates to be a skin display. This
brings us to our next reason about body types. The women s appearances we see in media have
been designed to become a perfect ideal and yet their massive breasts are exaggeratedly drawn to be
in the size of basketballs

Modern-day Indian Breaking the Shackles of Caste and the...
Breaking the Shackles of Caste and the Past
Aravind Adiga effectively captures the true image of modern India through the story of the fictional
character Balram Halwai. The novel takes the reader through the struggles of class that exist in
India at a time when the country is undergoing rapid modernization and globalization. The novel
contradicts the exotic image of India that is generally represented in literature (for example, the
stories of Rudyard Kipling.) Instead the novel familiarizes us with the complications that have
emerged in modern India in the last half century post independence and the abolition of
untouchability.
Throughout the novel Balram Halwai, the protagonist and the narrator, alludes to the issue of
social mobility in the new social hierarchy of India. He discusses how the social hierarchy has
undergone massive changes since the colonial times. Like we learned in class, there is
considerable social mobility among the castes in India today (Week 5, Lecture 1). Adiga illustrates
this transition and clash of ideologies in relation to caste beautifully through the various characters.
On one hand is Mr. Ashok, who having being educated in America believes that the caste system is
a thing of the past and on the other hand is his father, who still believes that caste lines are rigid
and cannot be dissolved.
Balram (like most other characters in the novel) believes in strict caste hierarchy and that India in
the days of its greatness was a more orderly

Freud s Theory Of The Human Personality
Freud s theory of the human personality consisted of 3 parts, the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id
is the inner child. Freud s Theory also separates the Id into two subcategories, Eros (the parent
loving libido) and Thanatos (the self preservation instinct), also known as the life and death
instincts, respectively. The Ego, or the I , is the self awareness part of the brain. This part takes
into account reality and tries to compromise between Id and the real world. The Superego, or the
above I applies moral principles to the Ego s solutions [McLeod, Id, Ego, Superego]. Many times
this works, but sometimes these systems of judgment fail. This applies not only to people, but
also to societies, as represented in The Crucible. The Id, as mentioned previously, is the need
and want driven part of one s psyche. The girls who were pretending to be ailed and bewitched
are the Id of the society, acting primarily upon Thanatos, their will to live and preserve their own
lives. The power of the Id, combined with the Ego, but lacking the Superego, can be a powerful
force to recon with, especially in ones so young. This is evident in the part of the play when Mary
is testifying in court against the girls. At first Mary is trying to persevere against them, MARY:
They re sporting...! GIRLS: (Cutting her off.) They re sporting! MARY: (Turning on them all,
hysterically and stamping her feet.) Abby, stop it! GIRLS: (Stamping their feet.) Abby, stop it!

The first specific item I see as a strength in this writing piece is the objective point of view

I end up this discussion by emphasizing that the basic procedure to find a market response is to
associate some measure of market return on securities with some measure of the information
content of the financial statements. I then review the 1968 Ball and Brown study. Since their
methodology takes some getting used to for students who have not seen it before, I stick fairly
closely to the coverage in Section 5.3, although the article itself could usefully be assigned as
reading by instructors who wish to consider BB s procedures in greater depth. I concentrate on
explaining how BB operationalized the measurements of market return and information content of
net income. Figure 5.3 is useful in this regard. The figure also ties nicely back to the efficient
securities market theory of Chapter 4, and the discussion in Example 3.3 of the dichotomization
of factors affecting share price into market wide and firm specific factors (Example 3.3 is
optional reading, however). I go on to review briefly the ERC research outlined in Section 5.4, as
an example of an important direction in which the Ball and Brown methodology has developed. I
concentrate on persistence as an explanatory variable for the ERC since this concept is Copyright

Comparison Of Interstellar, By Christopher Nolan, And...
We all dream of an ulterior world, a world in which we picture a perfect life with no struggles,
problems, or pandemics. Both Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, and Station Eleven by Emily
Mandel, depict their characters as struggling not only with survival, but their sense of their own
identity and security. Within Station Eleven, the saying, survival is insufficient is a recurring
theme of Interstellar as well. While there are some differences in the characters and themes within
Interstellar and Station Eleven, the similarities are the connections to their identity in which they
adapt to the force of change within their world. As the characters struggle with adapting, they cling
to certain things that allow them to remain sane. As a result, the characters feel like they have a
purpose again due to their struggle for survival.
Within their harsh and collapsing worlds, Murph and Kirsten are the puzzle pieces that connect
their stories together. For example, Murph cracks the code of the theory of gravity with the help of
her ghost, her father within the third dimension, providing her the missing information that saves
their planet from extinction. All that time, Murph tediously trying to figure out what her ghost was
trying to communicate, Murph finally makes the realization that he came back! It was him! All this
time... I... I didn t know it was him. On the other hand, Kirsten, in the Dr. Eleven Comics is able to

Essay Thucydides Historical Method
Thucydides indicates that people are indiscriminate about the stories or accounts they are told. They
do not put them to the test. This is the case even with accounts that deal with their own country.
Thucydides uses the example of the murder of Hipparchus. The Athenians believe that Hipparchus
was a tyrant and was the ruler when he was killed by Harmodius and Aristogeiton. The fact of the
matter is, Thucydidessays, that it was Hipparchus older brother Hippias who was in power, not
Hipparchus. Hippias was the eldest son of Pisistratus, so he was the ruler of Athens, not Hippias,
who was younger, and not Thessalus, the third son of Pisistratus, who was also younger than
Hippias. As for Harmodius and Aristogeiton, they originally... Show more content on

He uses two examples to illustrate this, both of which deal with the Lacedaemonian kings. When
Thucydides uses the phrase Other Greeks , it is possible that he is referring to Greeks in general
and to the popular beliefs of the time, or he could be referring to Herodotus, who provided
erroneous information about Lacedaemonian kings. The misconceptions that Thucydides refers to
concerning the Lacedaemonian kings are, first, that the Lacedaemonian kings have two votes each,
and that they have a military unit called `Pitante never existed. Herodotus, in his account, said that
the Spartan kings had two votes each and he also referred to the Pitante unit. So Herodotus spread
false information, and could very well be the Other Greeks who have wrong opinions that
Thucydides refers to. The fact that these false beliefs are accepted as truth shows, according to
Thucydides, how ready people are to believe the first things that come to hand. Thucydides next
attacks the poets for spreading these false beliefs in their songs, and the prose writers, who have
also spread these false beliefs in their works. In their songs, the poets have embellished much,
Thucydides says, and what the prose writers have hammered together aims more to delight the ear
than to be true (Thucydides, 12). Thucydides notes that it is not possible to test the accounts of the
poets

Factors That Led To The Fall Of The Roman Republic
Three ideals and traditions of the Roman Republic, lust for power, greed, and loyalty, each
contributed to the collapse of the Republic. Desire for power played a major role in the collapse
of the Republic because Caesar, the man who arguably began the Republic s downfall, marched
on Rome because he wanted power. The second ideal that led to the Republic s collapse was
greed and the power of money, for example bribing officials in Rome, Crassus shocking alliance
with Caesar, and Pompey s strategy to fight Caesar during the first civil war. The last ideal that
aided the downfall of the Republic was loyalty, specifically citizens loyalty to political leaders or
military generals, loyalty between generals and their veterans, and loyalty between political leaders.

Before the collapse of the Republic, Sulla, a roman patrician, declared himself dictator and used
proscription lists, a list of people posted in the forum who were declared enemies of the state, to
maintain his power. This example shows how lust for power was inherent and already
destructive in the Republic, prior to its collapse. Similar to lust for power, greed could be found
within the Republic before its collapse. For example, patricians, aristocrats, would buy farmland
from plebeians who were serving in the army, and they used the land to increase their wealth.
Lastly, loyalty was viewed as an important aspect of the Republic, specifically loyalty to
politicians, family, and the Republic s beliefs. Most Roman households had some allegiance to a
certain politician and would support that politician despite their own personal beliefs. These three
ideals of the Republic were established and followed long before the collapse of the Republic, and
all three grew into destructive forces that caused the collapse of the

How Does Antony Use Verbal Irony In Julius Caesar
Verbal irony is the intentional contrasting of what one says with what one means. Authors often
use verbal irony in dialogue to express a character s intentions behind he or she states. In The
Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, the author includes verbal irony in Marc
Antony s funeral speech to show the purpose behind his words, which is to avenge his friend and
the ruler of Rome, Julius Caesar, by persuading the audience to rebel. By including complements
about the conspirators, mentioning Caesar s will, and stating his false motives, he achieves his
purpose of persuading the Romans to rebel against the conspirators. First, Marc Antony uses
complements about the conspirators to ironically portray them in a negative way. In the speech,
Antony calls the men honorable, stating that they that have done this are honorable. and I fear I
wrong the honourable men whose daggers have stabbed Caesar. (Shakespeare 51). This is ironic
because when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout his speech, Antony stresses the fact that his purpose was not to make the people rise
against the conspirators, saying O masters, if I were disposed to stir your hearts and minds to
mutiny and rage, I should do Brutus wrong and Cassius wrong, who you all know are honourable
men. I will not do them wrong... (Shakespeare 50 51) and Good friends, sweet friends, let me not
stir you up to such a sudden flood of mutiny. (Shakespeare 53). His explanation of his motives is
ironic because he tells the audience that it is not his intention to compel them to mutiny when in
actuality his motive is to stir them up to mutiny. By explaining, repeatedly, his false motives and
compelling the audience to mutiny, Antony achieves his purpose because, ironically, explaining
that it is not his intention to stir them up becomes the action that actually enrages the Roman
citizens to the point where they revolt and attack the conspirators, forcing them to leave

Tips on Paraphrasing
Paraphrasing
Within academic writing it is advised that a combination of both direct and indirect quotes
(paraphrasing) are used. Often it is better to paraphrase what an author has said as opposed to
using lengthy direct quotations. But what does it mean to paraphrase ? According to the
MacMillan English Dictionary (MacMillan, 2012:online), to paraphrase is to express what
someone else has said or written using different words, especially in order to make it shorter or
clearer. When you paraphrase another author s writing you rewrite their argument using your own
words, phrasing and interpreting it in your own way.

The nurse manager, nurse clinician, and clinical nurse specialist, as the designated experts, do not
take patient assignments. The resource nurse is not only a caregiver but a resource to the other
caregivers. Within the staff nurses there is also a hierarchy of seniority. Their job is to give
assigned patients all their nursing care.
Why this is plagiarism
Notice that the writer has not only borrowed Chase s material (the results of her research) with no
acknowledgment, but has also largely maintained the author s method of expression and sentence
structure. The phrases in red are directly copied from the source or changed only slightly in form.
Even if the student writer had acknowledged Chase as the source of the content, the language of
the passage would be considered plagiarized because no quotation marks indicate the phrases that
come directly from Chase. And if quotation marks did appear around all these phrases, this
paragraph would be so cluttered that it would be unreadable.
2. A Patchwork Paraphrase
Chase (1995) describes how nurses in a critical care unit function in a hierarchy that places
designated experts at the top and the least senior staff nurses at the bottom. The experts the nurse
manager, nurse clinician, and clinical nurse specialist are not involved directly in patient care. The
staff nurses, in contrast, are assigned to patients and

The Decline of the Newspaper
In 1760, The Boston News Letter was the first newspaper to be continuously published in the
United States. A 250 year legacy of printed news could not have lasted if it newspapers didn t not
have it uses. Aside from the entertainment value, newspapers exist for the main purpose of
bringing news of international, national, and local news to the doorsteps of the people. Without
such frequent and stable form of communication, it would be difficult for any nation to call itself a
free democracy. Today however, it cannot be expected that newsprint will last forever. Statistical
data firmly suggests newspapers around the world are falling both in number and circulation. The

There could be no national forum where issues are discussed because people would not know
what there is to discuss in the first place. As Arthur Miller ones said: A good newspaper
, I suppose,
is a nation talking to itself. Our United States would no longer be united but instead fragmented
into nations talking only as far as word of mouth could reach. Lack of a national medium of
information is an obvious problem in any democracy.
Today, Newspapers are at the lowest circulation in seven decades. Numbers do not lie,
newspapers are in decline. According to a The Washington Post article from October of 2009,
The Accelerating Decline of Newspapers , only 13 percent of Americans today buy one of 1400
daily papers. In 1940 that number was 31 percent Newspapers annual losses of paid daily
subscriptions are at record lows all across the board. From the same article of the Washington
Post: New York Times reported seven percent loss, Los Angeles Times reported 11 percent,
Washington Post 6 percent, San Francisco Chronicles 26 percent, Dallas Morning News and
Newark Star Ledger both report 22 percent losses. Of the 25 top newspapers in the United States,
only the Wall Street Journal did not report a decline in circulation. The Wall Street Journal only
managed a 0.6 percent gain. Furthermore, the rate of decline in print circulation at the nation s
newspapers has accelerated. Between 2008 and 2009 there was a seven percent drop. Rick

Ozone Depletion
The ozone layer is a specific area in the stratosphere of maximum ozone concentration. Ozone in
the stratosphere forms naturally and protects us from damage that can be caused by solar radiation
such as skin cancer. In the 1970s chemists discovered that certain chemicals could travel into the
upper atmosphere and damage the protective ozone. Ever since this was discovered scientists,
government, and citizens have been making efforts to control and reverse the damage done to the
ozone. In 1987 a treaty called the Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer
was signed by world leaders who were participating in the Vienna Convention on the Protection of
the Ozone Layer. Without this protocol the abundances of chlorine would... Show more content on

One particular part of the interview that was interesting to me was when the woman, Adele, called
in and asked how chlorine commonly used in swimming pools affected the ozone. Russell Schnell
told her that chlorine does not make it up into the stratosphere because it is oxidized. The only
way that chlorine gets up into the stratosphere is if it is carried up with chemicals that it is bound
to. Once it is in the stratosphere the sunlight breaks off the chlorine. I simply assumed that when
someone drains their pool at the end of the summer the water would evaporate and the chlorine
would then rise up into the stratosphere. From this I know now that chlorine must be bound to
other chemicals in order to make it up that far. In 2011 there was record ozone depletion over the
Arctic that is far worse than the holes in the Antarctic s protective atmospheric layer that first
appeared in the 1980s. There are concerns that the Northern Hemisphere may periodically
experience harmful levels of ultraviolet radiation in the spring. Chemist Geir Braathen said it was
significantly worse than anything we had ever seen. Typically spring ozone depletions maxes out
at 20 to 30 percent drop but in 2011 there was a loss of about 40 percent. In Antarctica 70 percent
of ozone can disappear in the spring time. The ozone layer is vital in protecting us from the harmful
effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Pelvic Exam Essay
Pelvic Exam
A pelvic exam is an exam of a woman s outer and inner genitals and reproductive organs. Pelvic
exams are done to screen for health problems and to help prevent health problems from
developing. You should start having pelvic exams when you turn 21 years old, unless your health
care provider recommends having a pelvic exam earlier. Talk with your health care providerabout
how often you should have a pelvic exam.
During your pelvic exam, your health care provider may ask you questions about your health, your
family s health, your menstrual periods, immunizations, and your sexual activity. The information
shared between you and your health care provider will not be shared with anyone else.

You will remove your clothes from the waist down. You will put on a gown or a wrap to cover
yourself while you get ready for the exam.
You will lie on your back on a special table. Your feet will be placed into foot rests (stirrups) so that
your legs are wide apart and your knees are bent. A drape will be placed over your abdomen and
your legs.
Your health care provider will examine your outer genitals to check for anything unusual. This
includes your clitoris, urethra, vaginal opening, labia, and the skin between your vagina and your

Drowsy Driving
SLEEP DEPRIVATION DRIVING
Nothing could prepare me for the news I received six years ago about the unexpected death of
my close friend Joey. I will never forget the night he died. How I had been with him just minutes
before, and how his death was totally unnecessary and preventable. A few weeks before
Christmas in 2001, Joey, myself and a few of my other co workers were closing down the local
restaurant we worked at while attending Umass Lowell. It had been a busy night, and we didn t
end up finishing work until 1am. Having worked all day, we were all extremely tired, and could
not wait to go home. Most of us were staying in Lowell at the time, but Joey had chosen to
commute to campus and therefore had to travel out to Reading. I ... Show more content on

On a more positive note, gains are being made towards the direction of holding those presumed
guilty of drowsy driving accountable for their reckless behavior. Unfortunately, it has taken a series
of deaths in order to trigger this movement. One of the first laws developed (Maggie s Law,) was
done so by the mother of 20 year old Maggie McDonnell who was hit head on by a van driven by a
drowsy driver in 1997. Mrs. McDonnell (the mother of Maggie,) was infuriated to learn that there
was not a single law created to address the issue of vehicular homicide as a result of sleep
deprivation, and therefore set forth to create one. Her efforts were successful, and in 2003 the
nations first drowsy driving law was implemented. Maggie s Law ammends the spectrum of
vehicular homicide to include those who who operarte a vehicle while sleep deprived. Under
Maggie s Law, offenders can be prosecuted if there is proof beyond a doubt that the operator fell
asleep while driving, or was awake for more than 24 consecutive hours. Conviction under this law
can carry a maximum penalty of ten years in prison. (Weaver 1).
As a future sleep technician, and a person who has suffered personally from the aftermath of a
friend falling asleep at the wheel, the topic of drowsy driving is one concerns me. Studies show
that there has been a significant rise in sleep related crashes since the initiation of Maggie s Law
in 2003, but only one recorded

Love Not Legalism By Madeleine L Engle
Love Not Legalism
Madeleine L Engle was a fierce thought provoking writer. She challenged me as both a believer
and a writer. Her scatterbrained writing style was relatable to me and so were the things she
talked about. She would have been a wonderful wise woman to grab a meal with. She did not shy
away from controversial topics; but instead, she introduced them. In Walking on Water L Engle
sought to share the freedom available to us if we allow Jesus Christ to break us free from our chains.
One of the topics that L Engle humbly addressed was the topic of legalism. I greatly appreciated
this because I find that many world renowned leaders shy away from talking about it, when in
reality it may be one of the enemy s most disguised tools. When people see God as an
unapproachable killjoy, it becomes natural to grow distant from Him, and I know that before
becoming a Christian this was the biggest stumbling block for me and I know some of the most
kindhearted people cannot grasp the fact that God loves them and that He sent His one and only
son to save them. L Engle also tackled the major misconception that God does not know how to
laugh. He created humor and is pretty humorous himself. George MacDonald said, It is the Heart
that is not yet sure of its God that is afraid to laugh in His presence (131). I am learning that more
and more every day. The common trait that my most joyful friends share is confidence in God s love
for them. A relationship with God has so

Inferno Research Paper
Inferno Research Paper Anthony K. Cassell stated in his critical essay titled Farinata that the
methods of punishment in Dante s Hell are exquisitely diverse. The cantos in Inferno are focused
on Circles or subdivisions of Hell that describe specific punishments for the suffering souls based
upon the sin they committed. The deeper into Hell, the worse the sins that were committed, therefore
the agonies of the punishments are greater. In Inferno, Dante brings the issue of sin into light by
giving instances of sins he has taken note of. He places the guilty souls at different levels of Hell,
depending on which crimes he believes are the worst to commit, showing how Dante portrayed his
understanding of God s justice (Cassell).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pope Nicholas says he is guilty of simony, so Dante does not pity him. Dante tells him to stay
stuck there, for you are rightly punished (XIX.97). This is when Dante first begins to realize that
God s justice is present is Hell. He then speaks out against all corrupt churchmen, and claims if he
were not restrained, he would use even harsher words. Dante then becomes amazed, if not
pleasured, with some of the punishments. In the Circle containing Thieves, Dante watches in
amazement as a serpent bites a sinner between the shoulders, causing the soul to instantly catch
fire, burn up, and then rise from the ashes to return to the pit of the serpents. In the First Ring of
the Ninth Circle of Hell, called Caina, named after Cain who killed his brother Abel in Genesis,
those who betrayed their kin are punished. The souls must stand in ice frozen up to their heads.
Dante witnesses twins frozen face to face, butting their heads against each other in rage. Dante
accidentally kicks Bocca degli Abati in the face, then leans down to apologize. Once he recognizes
this soul, he tears out his hair before leaving him in the ice. With the constant rebuking from Virgil,
Dante has learned to not pity the damned souls. He learns to reconcile his sympathy for the
suffering with the harsh violence of divine justice as he begins to see that the punishments fit the
crimes committed. In Canto VI of Inferno, the Third Circle of Hell rains filth and excrement, and

Summary Of Free Inquiry Not On Campus By John Leo
The Death of Speech The first amendment, the right of freedom of speech is one of the most
important classic fantasy to almost anyone living in the United States, building the foundation
of our nation. This right gives us plenty of different opportunities to express our opinions and
political viewpoints on any issues in America. But it comes with a price, people have been
protesting multiple different events trying to prevent people from expressing opposing opinions
or political viewpoints on that has issues in America. For the minority of people, expressing a
different opinion should be protected no matter how controversial or insensitive it may be. Free
Inquiry? Not on Campus by John Leo is an important essay that shows exactly how important it
is to protect people s political views and opinions. In Leo s essay, he elaborates how times have
changed and how we live in more of a liberal left wing society and because of this everyone has
to be more politically correct. Leo talks about the social change universities and colleges on how
they used to promote free speech, but now are more like the speech police telling us what s
opinions you should have on any given subject and any other opinion is considered wrong. Leo
gives an example of this and writes in October 2007, for instance, a student mob stormed a
Columbia University stage, shutting down speeches by two members of the Minutemen, an anti
illegal immigration group. The students shouted they have no right to

The Sun Also Rises
In Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises, Jake Barnes is a lost man who wastes his life on
drinking. Towards the beginning of the book Robert Cohn asks Jake, Don t you ever get the
feeling that all your life is going by and you re not taking advantage of it? Do you realize that you
ve lived nearly half the time you have to live already? Jake weakly answers, Yes, every once in a
while. The book focuses on the dissolution of the post war generation and how they cannot find
their place in life. Jake is an example of a person who had the freedom to choose his place but
chose poorly.
This point of Jake s life is centered on readjusting himself to normal life after World War I. Jake is

Jake also at times seems to realize how bad his life is, but then never regrets it. He is in love with
Brett Ashley, but she is always with other people, including Robert Cohn, which makes Jake
jealous. This jealousy turns to anger when Jake gets into a fight with Robert and is then knocked
out.
Jake relates to the other characters only superficially because he only looks at what he can get
from them. Jake wants Brett Ashley so that when he gets older he ll have companionship. Jake
makes fun of Robert Cohn to make himself look better than he is by putting someone else down.
Jake also uses Bill Gorton just to keep himself busy and not get bored. Near the end of the book
Jake states, Next morning I tipped every one a little too much at the hotel to make more
friends...I did not tip the porter more than I should because I did not think I would ever see him
again. I only wanted a few good French friends in Bayonne to make me welcome in case I should
come back... This statement show what friends really meant to Jake. They were people that would
be some type of service to him.
Unfortunately, Jake does not undergo a change throughout the book. Jake stays the same uncaring,
selfish person from the beginning where Jake said he never thinks about how much he s wasted his
life to Robert Cohn, until the last line where Brett Ashley says, We could have had such a damned
good time together, and

  • 3. Bronfenbrenner s Bioecological Model Psychology My ability to enact change whether on a large or small scale has always been a motivating factor for me, which is ultimately why I chose to pursue psychology. Often I feel compelled to intervene in a problem whether it directly affects me or not in order to change the outcome for the greater good. I will provide a narrative of each activity, the system or systems involved in that activity, and the impact on human behaviorusing either Bronfenbrenner s bioecological model, which focuses on the impact of five separate but interwoven systems and how they affect human development or Carter and McGoldrick s family life cycle model, which refers to changes within a nuclear family that occur over time and how they impact the family unit as a whole... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I ve only been doing it for a short time, but in the scenarios that I ve handled, majority of those texting in were a part of a traditional nuclear family with a majority of the crises directly involving the familial unit which is the foundation of Carter and McGoldrick s family life cycle model (1988). Family stress and transitions are extremely impactful to an individual s growth and well being, with disruptions in the life cycle creating dysfunction (Carter McGoldrick, 1988). I communicate primarily with teenagers, those in the adolescent stage, who at this point desire more independence and less family involvement in their day to day lives. During this stage, the parent child relationship is truly tested because the parent still wants to assert their dominance and authority while the child wants to have the freedom to explore the world around them and try new things so that they are able to uncover who they really are as individuals. This tug of war creates conflict and tension which affects the family as a whole as well as the adolescent child. Texters often discuss experiencing horizontal or predictable and unpredictable real life events that exert stress on every person involved. Examples of horizontal stressors include the decision of their parents to divorce, having to move away from their friends and start over in a new place, or the loss of a parent s job and the impact of the financial strain associated with it (Carter McGoldrick, 1988). Many of the individuals who text in eventually share that their parents are directly affected by the stressor and aren t handling it well, possibly due to behaviors passed on to them by their parents, lack of support, or lack of coping skills and will take that stress out on their child or children. The assertion of power creates a dysfunctional environment to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Suggested Strategy for Central High School Needs Assessment As chair of the committee charged with the recommendation for the purchase of new computer equipment, I will detail a suggested plan for this $50,000 project at Central High School. The high school has 1000 students in four grade levels (9th through 12th), and has approximately 60 and 20 supporting staff. An inventory of the computers at the whole school was conducted to understand what is currently available. There is currently one computer lab per grade level in the school with 22 computers each, allowing for each grade use of this for one period per day. There are also two computers in each classroom (one for student use, one for teacher use) as well as a bank of computers in the library. There are also individual computers for the guidance counselors, nurse, principals and assistant principals, and office staff. As the inventory was being done, a survey was passed out to all of the staff asking where the needs were greatest and what specific equipment was lacking. The overwhelming desire of the majority of the teachers was more computers in the individual classrooms, specifically in the math and science rooms as a lot of current information was required and there was a lot of competition for its use. There was a great desire to be flexible and move the computer from place to place, such that a laptop computer or tablet computer was preferred over a desktop. Market Research In order to take the needs of the school and convert that into a proposal, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Statute Of Limitations In Criminal Law Across the United States, many criminal courts have created a rule known as statute of limitations. Statute of limitations sets forth a time limit to raising a legal issue in order to not only maintain the integrity of evidence gathered for the trial, but to also protect people from being harassed about a crimethat was never tried a long time ago. In order to begin a criminal case within statute of limitations, a prosecutor must bring forth formal charges against a defendant within a specific amount of time after a crime is first discovered by law enforcement. The amount of time that a prosecutor can file criminal charges against a defendant depends on the crime s classification under the federal or state criminal code. Because of the different classifications of crimes in criminal codes, there are several forms of time limitations that prosecutors should know before deciding to file criminal charges against a defendant. The first type of offense is known as an infraction. In the criminal code, infractions are crimes that carry a punishment of paying a fine ( Felonies, Misdemeanors and Infractions: The Differences , n.d.). Once law enforcement discovers this type of offense, the prosecutor is given exactly six months to file charges against the defendant ( Time Limits for Charges: State Criminal Statutes of Limitations , n.d.). Some examples of infractions can include citations for parking violations, running a red light, and speeding. The next type of offense is known as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Voyeurism In The Hunger Games Voyeurism, or obsessive act of watching and living through sordid acts, and spectacles, a thing put to the public for show, are things that are seen daily by Americans. Examples of this are found all throughout history as entertainment, television, books, and news are filled to the brim with this violent and sordid information and fictions that people seem to consume by the bucket full. This can be defined as Panem et Circenses or simply bread and circuses, This term describes the way ancient Roman government systems would operate to distract the citizens with entertainment, circuses, and food or information, bread to stop them from noticing the corruption and pain around them. Dispute this idea being used during this time, it was carried... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book shows a dystopian world where society has gotten to a point where they send two children from 12 districts, between the ages of 12 to 18 into a game where they fight to the death until one is left, for Panem s, but mostly the Capitol s entertainment. This concept is very similar to the gladiatorial games in how they would sent volunteers and forced slaves into arena where they fight to the death. This alike was used for entertainment for the citizens, but also as a meaning of distraction, such as the games in Panem. Now, people today are not even close to this barbarism, right? Wrong, Americans are very close to this level, it may not be necessarily murder but violent and overdramisation published on the internet and television is happening today. A quote from Panem et Circenses by Carrie Ryan, she argues, [T]he only difference between us [Americans] and the viewers in the Capitol is that we have agency to turn off the television at any time . This quote states how in reality television that our society watches, we see the trainwrecks and horrors go down, in sports, we watch the big hit and injuries over and over again. But unlike the Capitol, where they must watch this basically murder, our society chooses to keep the show on, to give it more views, more money, which keeps it going on. Even if it lies, and deceives, we choose to believe and keep it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Death Of My Mother When I was a child, I dreamt about being a doctor helping others. I knew at the early age of 7 that I wanted to make a difference in others lives. After the death of my mother in 1999, I slowly changed my mind about what I wanted to do with my life. I told myself that I would do whatever it took to help bring justice for families that go through what I went through with the death of my mother. As I was going through college I realized that criminal justice wasn t for me after working in the field. I sat there one day wondering what I would do next and I realized I have a passion for helping others; and I love babies, so why not use that to my advantage. • 9. Through Deaf Eyes Review Essay In Through Deaf Eyes you will find a range of perspective on the question what is deafness? This film is a balanced presentation of deaf experience. I believe that the film does a good job of revealing the struggles and triumphs of deaf people in society throughout history. The documentary covers a span of close to 200 years of deaf life in the United States. You will see experiences among deaf people in education, family life, work, and social activities. Sign language is language that uses visual hand patterns to convey a meaning without using any vocal. It truly is a superb way of communication, although it was not always accepted in society. Wherever communities of deaf people exist, sign language develops. There was no... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I wasn t expecting that. After viewing the movie I understand better now why even if some deaf people can use their voices, they don t because it seems like it would lead to a one way conversation. Although the hearing person would understand what the deaf person was conveying, the deaf person would not be able to understand the hearing person without lip reading or using sign language. I laughed at the part of the movie where the deaf comedian was talking about an incident that he had while driving a car. A man was aggressively driving and beeping at the deaf man driving his car. When this man passed the deaf man, he said, What are you deaf? The deaf man who spoke and signed telling the story said he drove up to him and said, Yes, I am deaf! Although I laughed, it is offensive to the deaf individuals using the word deaf in such a negative way. People who are hard of hearing are people and should be esteemed as such. Deaf people living in a hearing world have certainly made their mark in the hearing community. Deaf people can do anything that hearing people can do. The band shown in the film called Beethoven s Nightmare caused quite a stir in our class. I think that we were simply amazed that deaf musicians could play so well. By showing the audience this experience, it provides hearing viewers with the knowledge that this type of event does occur within the deaf community and that the deaf can appreciate ... • 10. Corruption Of The Church In The Canterbury Tales The powerful grow more powerful through the actions of the people. Geoffrey Chaucer opposes the all powerful 14th century Catholic church in The Canterbury Tales. His displeasure resulted in the actions and practices of church officials. In The Canterbury Tales, individuals representing clergy members extort money, and sin for the gain of wealth within the church. Chaucer uses characterizations and language in The Canterbury Talesto express his displeasure and opposition with the 14th century Catholic church s practices. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer expresses a distaste with Catholic ideals and hypocrisy during the 14th century. His distaste shows in the characterizations of the pilgrims that represent the clergy. Each member of the clergy has a characteristic that represents their corruption. In Ideas And Institutions In European History 800 1715 by Mendenhall, an idea forms about the church and its corrupt ways. Each representative of the church embraces the idea of one true church and puts emphasis on the aforementioned, which allows the clergy to place a monopoly on salvation (Mendenhall, 25). The idea of gaining salvation from only one church or religion increases the ability of that church to extort money in exchange for forgiveness and salvation. The money then goes into the pockets of the clergy. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer expresses the overwhelming wealth of the church through characterization of the Monk. Traditionally, Monks vow to a life of poverty, chastity, and obedience as outlined in the Catholic Encyclopedia (1913). However, the Monk as described in The Canterbury Tales lives a life of nonpareil was he, who rode, as steward of his monastery, the country round; a lover of good sport, a manly man fit to be an abbot (Chaucer, 7). • 11. Personal Reflection Of My Humor Style And Mental Health As humans, laughing and joking is something that comes natural. This is something that we have been doing even before we knew how to walk or talk. As we start to grow up, we all develop personality traits and our humor styles follow. Before taking this course, I have never consider identifying what my humorstyles are until now. I took the Humor Style Questionnaire (Martin et al. 2003) and calculated that my top humor style is self enhancing and closely following is affiliative. Throughout this paper I am going to reflect on my top humor styles with personal examples, and how it relates to my mental health, with several methods I can use to make myself healthier and happier. I will also be considering the other two styles and how then do not relate to my humor style and mental health. My top humor style is self enhancing. According to the Humor Styles Questionnaire (Martin et al. 2003) I am 5.2 points away from the women s average, that is a 36.8 for this style. According to an article that I found, Individual differences in uses of humor and their relation to psychological well being: Development of the Humor Styles Questionnaire, people with self enhancing humor style have a humorous outlook on life and tend to be amused by its incongruities. Even when a person that has this style is faced with stress and adversities, they still maintain a humorous outlook (Kuiper, Martin, Olinger, 1993). • 12. Drama And Themes Of Drama DRAMA AND THEMES Drama by definition is a play, movie, television show, or radio show that is about a serious subject and is not meant to make the audience laugh (Webster). Race, social class, and gender very often are major story lines for films in the category of drama. A drama can be based on several aspects, including but not limited to reality and novels and cross over into several other genres of movies. Very often, we see drama crossed with comedy, action, romance, etc., in turn making it the most common genre of movies (Dirks, 2015). Drama focuses on realistic characters with a realistic story line, high intensity special effects are not usually prevalent in dramas. The Help, A Christmas Carol, Mr. Mom, are the dramas chosen that I feel depict race, social class, and gender representation each at a very different level, based on the time period implied in the movie. COMMONALITIES AND CHOSEN ISSUES If I am going to see a movie based on a novel I have read, for example, The Help, I have a preconceived notion of what this movie is going to be about and expectations based on the previews prior to entering the movie theater. An additional spin on this movie, which often makes the actors and directors work more difficult, the book became popular prior to the movie being created. Very often when books are in place prior to the movie, readers have visualizations of what the characters look like, how they will sound, etc. The Help is categorized as a drama, and ... Bromination of trans cinnamic acid and trans stilbene INTRODUCTION Determining how a mechanism takes place is crucial in order to define a mechanism. In this experiment, a mechanism was determined based on the purified product s melting point. This was accomplished by comparing the acquired melting point with the one provided by Professor Link. (Q1) When 0.252 g of trans cinnamic acid was mixed in 2.5 mL glacial acetic acid and introduced to 0.434g pyridinium tribromide, the resulting product reflects an addition reaction. In general, reactions take place to achieve its lowest Gibb s free energy because it s at this point where a structure is most stable; in this case, the reaction is an addition of bromine into alkenes. (Q2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The melting point range was close to the anti structure, but because it was a widened range it is speculated that the syn structure was also present. (Q9) However, this does not mean the other mechanisms are completely discarded. Upon recrystallizing the pure product, a gross mistake potentially skewed the results; non DI water from the ice bath was introduced to the crystallized product by mistake. Recrystallization of the pure product was redone, but random ions from the ice bath could have infiltrated the crystal lattice of the pure product thereby widening the melting range. Also, the melting range could have been affected by the temperature intervals used; time was running out and the Digi Melt was programmed to increase in intervals of 10В°C instead of 5В°C. This could have affected the melting range observed significantly; slow and steady probes to be a better method. (Q10) Both the percent yield (106.5%) and recovery (54.75%) are not ideal numbers; ideally, percentages should be close to 100% but not over or under. As mentioned above, (in Q9), a gross mistake occurred where non DI water got into the pure product as it was recrystallizing; the flask s buoyancy caused it to tip over and the non DI water from the ice bath got inside the pure product. This affected the data as electrolytes from the ice bath could now be part of the crystal lattice of the pure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the common responsibilities include: developing the organization s pay structure, managing and improving all bonus or commissions, and preparing job descriptions (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). According to Samantha Smith, a compensation specialist for Rocky Mountain Sleep Clinic, the process of determining an employee s salaryis rather long and time consuming. She says that there are five steps she follows to develop the salaries within the organization. First she must review her own pay practice to help determine the budget of the company. Once this is completed, she must determine the definition and description of each job, which is later used to advertise the position during the hiring process. A proper description of each position allows for the applicants to understand what they are applying for. Employees also know what is expected of them after reading the job description. Even going as far as viewing them as a sex object, their revealing body images are eye candy through the eyes of men. Hence women found in comic books and video games are frequently emphasized by their excessive physical appearances, objectification, portrayal, and character role. So, what does oversexualize mean anyway? The term oversexualize defines as to sexualize excessively, which means to make something of sexual that is beyond degree in this case, a person or someone of a gender whether male or female can be oversexualized. To begin with, costumes that female characters wear are far more or less provocative clothes, but mainly towards sexually explicit ways. For example, Ivy Valentine comes from a video game series called Soul Calibur who is the first character to have a revealing outfit and in which her costumes appears to be a dominatrix style. Furthermore, she shows a huge amount of cleavage with her exposed thighs and hips despite wearing high boots and long gloves which indicates to be a skin display. This brings us to our next reason about body types. The women s appearances we see in media have been designed to become a perfect ideal and yet their massive breasts are exaggeratedly drawn to be in the size of basketballs ... • 32. Modern-day Indian Breaking the Shackles of Caste and the... Breaking the Shackles of Caste and the Past Aravind Adiga effectively captures the true image of modern India through the story of the fictional character Balram Halwai. The novel takes the reader through the struggles of class that exist in India at a time when the country is undergoing rapid modernization and globalization. The novel contradicts the exotic image of India that is generally represented in literature (for example, the stories of Rudyard Kipling.) Instead the novel familiarizes us with the complications that have emerged in modern India in the last half century post independence and the abolition of untouchability. Throughout the novel Balram Halwai, the protagonist and the narrator, alludes to the issue of social mobility in the new social hierarchy of India. He discusses how the social hierarchy has undergone massive changes since the colonial times. Like we learned in class, there is considerable social mobility among the castes in India today (Week 5, Lecture 1). Adiga illustrates this transition and clash of ideologies in relation to caste beautifully through the various characters. On one hand is Mr. Ashok, who having being educated in America believes that the caste system is a thing of the past and on the other hand is his father, who still believes that caste lines are rigid and cannot be dissolved. Balram (like most other characters in the novel) believes in strict caste hierarchy and that India in the days of its greatness was a more orderly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Freud s Theory Of The Human Personality Freud s theory of the human personality consisted of 3 parts, the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is the inner child. Freud s Theory also separates the Id into two subcategories, Eros (the parent loving libido) and Thanatos (the self preservation instinct), also known as the life and death instincts, respectively. The Ego, or the I , is the self awareness part of the brain. This part takes into account reality and tries to compromise between Id and the real world. The Superego, or the above I applies moral principles to the Ego s solutions [McLeod, Id, Ego, Superego]. Many times this works, but sometimes these systems of judgment fail. This applies not only to people, but also to societies, as represented in The Crucible. The Id, as mentioned previously, is the need and want driven part of one s psyche. The girls who were pretending to be ailed and bewitched are the Id of the society, acting primarily upon Thanatos, their will to live and preserve their own lives. The power of the Id, combined with the Ego, but lacking the Superego, can be a powerful force to recon with, especially in ones so young. This is evident in the part of the play when Mary is testifying in court against the girls. At first Mary is trying to persevere against them, MARY: They re sporting...! GIRLS: (Cutting her off.) Within Station Eleven, the saying, survival is insufficient is a recurring theme of Interstellar as well. This is the case even with accounts that deal with their own country. Thucydides uses the example of the murder of Hipparchus. The Athenians believe that Hipparchus was a tyrant and was the ruler when he was killed by Harmodius and Aristogeiton. The fact of the matter is, Thucydidessays, that it was Hipparchus older brother Hippias who was in power, not Hipparchus. Hippias was the eldest son of Pisistratus, so he was the ruler of Athens, not Hippias, who was younger, and not Thessalus, the third son of Pisistratus, who was also younger than Hippias. When Thucydides uses the phrase Other Greeks , it is possible that he is referring to Greeks in general and to the popular beliefs of the time, or he could be referring to Herodotus, who provided erroneous information about Lacedaemonian kings. The misconceptions that Thucydides refers to concerning the Lacedaemonian kings are, first, that the Lacedaemonian kings have two votes each, and that they have a military unit called `Pitante never existed. Herodotus, in his account, said that the Spartan kings had two votes each and he also referred to the Pitante unit. So Herodotus spread false information, and could very well be the Other Greeks who have wrong opinions that Thucydides refers to. The fact that these false beliefs are accepted as truth shows, according to Thucydides, how ready people are to believe the first things that come to hand. Thucydides next attacks the poets for spreading these false beliefs in their songs, and the prose writers, who have also spread these false beliefs in their works. In their songs, the poets have embellished much, Thucydides says, and what the prose writers have hammered together aims more to delight the ear than to be true (Thucydides, 12). The second ideal that led to the Republic s collapse was greed and the power of money, for example bribing officials in Rome, Crassus shocking alliance with Caesar, and Pompey s strategy to fight Caesar during the first civil war. Authors often use verbal irony in dialogue to express a character s intentions behind he or she states. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, the author includes verbal irony in Marc Antony s funeral speech to show the purpose behind his words, which is to avenge his friend and the ruler of Rome, Julius Caesar, by persuading the audience to rebel. By including complements about the conspirators, mentioning Caesar s will, and stating his false motives, he achieves his purpose of persuading the Romans to rebel against the conspirators. First, Marc Antony uses complements about the conspirators to ironically portray them in a negative way. The only way that chlorine gets up into the stratosphere is if it is carried up with chemicals that it is bound to. Once it is in the stratosphere the sunlight breaks off the chlorine. • 50. Love Not Legalism By Madeleine L Engle Love Not Legalism Madeleine L Engle was a fierce thought provoking writer. She challenged me as both a believer and a writer. Her scatterbrained writing style was relatable to me and so were the things she talked about. She would have been a wonderful wise woman to grab a meal with. She did not shy away from controversial topics; but instead, she introduced them. In Walking on Water L Engle sought to share the freedom available to us if we allow Jesus Christ to break us free from our chains. One of the topics that L Engle humbly addressed was the topic of legalism. I greatly appreciated this because I find that many world renowned leaders shy away from talking about it, when in reality it may be one of the enemy s most disguised tools. When people see God as an unapproachable killjoy, it becomes natural to grow distant from Him, and I know that before becoming a Christian this was the biggest stumbling block for me and I know some of the most kindhearted people cannot grasp the fact that God loves them and that He sent His one and only son to save them. L Engle also tackled the major misconception that God does not know how to laugh. He created humor and is pretty humorous himself. George MacDonald said, It is the Heart that is not yet sure of its God that is afraid to laugh in His presence (131). I am learning that more and more every day. The common trait that my most joyful friends share is confidence in God s love for them. A relationship with God has so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Inferno Research Paper Inferno Research Paper Anthony K. Cassell stated in his critical essay titled Farinata that the methods of punishment in Dante s Hell are exquisitely diverse. The cantos in Inferno are focused on Circles or subdivisions of Hell that describe specific punishments for the suffering souls based upon the sin they committed. The deeper into Hell, the worse the sins that were committed, therefore the agonies of the punishments are greater. In Inferno, Dante brings the issue of sin into light by giving instances of sins he has taken note of. He places the guilty souls at different levels of Hell, depending on which crimes he believes are the worst to commit, showing how Dante portrayed his understanding of God s justice (Cassell).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pope Nicholas says he is guilty of simony, so Dante does not pity him. Dante tells him to stay stuck there, for you are rightly punished (XIX.97). This is when Dante first begins to realize that God s justice is present is Hell. He then speaks out against all corrupt churchmen, and claims if he were not restrained, he would use even harsher words. Dante then becomes amazed, if not pleasured, with some of the punishments. In the Circle containing Thieves, Dante watches in amazement as a serpent bites a sinner between the shoulders, causing the soul to instantly catch fire, burn up, and then rise from the ashes to return to the pit of the serpents. In the First Ring of the Ninth Circle of Hell, called Caina, named after Cain who killed his brother Abel in Genesis, those who betrayed their kin are punished. The souls must stand in ice frozen up to their heads. Dante witnesses twins frozen face to face, butting their heads against each other in rage. Dante accidentally kicks Bocca degli Abati in the face, then leans down to apologize. Once he recognizes this soul, he tears out his hair before leaving him in the ice. With the constant rebuking from Virgil, Dante has learned to not pity the damned souls. He learns to reconcile his sympathy for the suffering with the harsh violence of divine justice as he begins to see that the punishments fit the crimes committed. In Canto VI of Inferno, the Third Circle of Hell rains filth and excrement, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of Free Inquiry Not On Campus By John Leo The Death of Speech The first amendment, the right of freedom of speech is one of the most important classic fantasy to almost anyone living in the United States, building the foundation of our nation. This right gives us plenty of different opportunities to express our opinions and political viewpoints on any issues in America. But it comes with a price, people have been protesting multiple different events trying to prevent people from expressing opposing opinions or political viewpoints on that has issues in America. For the minority of people, expressing a different opinion should be protected no matter how controversial or insensitive it may be. Free Inquiry? Not on Campus by John Leo is an important essay that shows exactly how important it is to protect people s political views and opinions. In Leo s essay, he elaborates how times have changed and how we live in more of a liberal left wing society and because of this everyone has to be more politically correct. Leo talks about the social change universities and colleges on how they used to promote free speech, but now are more like the speech police telling us what s opinions you should have on any given subject and any other opinion is considered wrong. Leo gives an example of this and writes in October 2007, for instance, a student mob stormed a Columbia University stage, shutting down speeches by two members of the Minutemen, an anti illegal immigration group. The students shouted they have no right to ... Do you realize that you ve lived nearly half the time you have to live already? Jake weakly answers, Yes, every once in a while. Jake also at times seems to realize how bad his life is, but then never regrets it. He is in love with Brett Ashley, but she is always with other people, including Robert Cohn, which makes Jake jealous. This jealousy turns to anger when Jake gets into a fight with Robert and is then knocked out. Jake relates to the other characters only superficially because he only looks at what he can get from them. Jake wants Brett Ashley so that when he gets older he ll have companionship. Jake makes fun of Robert Cohn to make himself look better than he is by putting someone else down. Jake also uses Bill Gorton just to keep himself busy and not get bored. Near the end of the book Jake states, Next morning I tipped every one a little too much at the hotel to make more friends...I did not tip the porter more than I should because I did not think I would ever see him again. I only wanted a few good French friends in Bayonne to make me welcome in case I should come back... This statement show what friends really meant to Jake. They were people that would be some type of service to him. Unfortunately, Jake does not undergo a change throughout the book. Jake stays the same uncaring, selfish person from the beginning where Jake said he never thinks about how much he s wasted his life to Robert Cohn, until the last line where Brett Ashley says, We could have had such a damned good time together, and ...
