Crayfish And Earthworms
When society thinks about crayfish and earthworms they become extremely curious about how their
bodies operate because of how they are made up. I will give a brief synopsis of both animals before
going into major detail about them. According to the online website named dictionary.com, it says that
an earthworm is a burrowing annelid worm that lives in the soil. Earthworms play an important role in
aerating and draining the soil and in burying organic matter (Dictionary). Crayfish are nocturnal
freshwater crustacean that resembles a small lobster and inhabits in streams and rivers (Dictionary).
Crayfish and earthworms are some very interesting animals that possess some exclusive qualities both
similar and different.
As researched, earthworms are known as hermaphrodites, which are defined as an animal having both
male and female sex organs or other sexual characteristics, either abnormally or (in the case of some
organisms) as the natural condition (Dictionary). During the earthworm lab, I discovered that
earthworms have both seminal vesicles and seminal receptacles. Holding sperm after cross
fertilization has occurred is the seminal receptacles for females only. Seminal vesicles produce and
release sperm and are well known as the male reproductive organs. Gizzards are responsible for
mechanical digestion and grinding up the food for earthworms (Earthworm dissection video). On the
other hand, for male crayfish to make sperm they must contain testes, unlike the females they

Small Intestine Body Adapted
How are different tissues adapted for their roles?
The function of the small intestine is digestion. The small intestine is developed for its role because
the inside wall of the small intestine is thin, with a large surface area. This allows absorption in the
body to happen quickly and more efficiently.
The trachea (windpipe) is a hollow tube that connects the voice box to the bronchi of the lungs,
allowing the passage of air to flow through. The trachea is lined with ciliated epithelial cells, which
have long root hairs called Celia, which removes unwanted substances up through the windpipe so it
doesn t block it.
The artery s purpose is to carry blood away from heart at high pressure. An artery is adapted for its
role because the artery

Leadership Styles Of Leadership Style
Part One:
Consider what leadership or management style speaks most to you. Discuss that particular style,
explain why it fits you better than others. Alternatively, consider the leadership or management style
fits you least. Explain what is least desirable with that style from your perspective.
What leadership or management style speaks most to me? They are a few leadership styles that I
venerate. The Transformational Leadership, the Visionary Leadership, and the Charismatic Leadership
styles are the most evident to me. Each one has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages.
Moreover, each is congruent with what I believe is necessary to craft the ideal leader and the
combination is something I strive to emulate as I learn the nuances ... Show more content on

Encourages others.
Provides support and recognition.
Stirs the emotions of people.
Gets people to look beyond their self interest.
Inspires people to reach for the improbable.
These qualities are fundamental qualities a leader must possess. These are just the building blocks of
crafting the consummate leader. Undoubtedly, while sufficient, they are more qualities required.
What other qualities should a leader have? In addition to the eight qualities mentioned before, a leader
needs a vision. Political sociologists Max Weber and James MacGregor Burns theorized that many
leaders are visionaries. These visionary leaders possess a driving sense of purpose and confidence in
their ability to achieve their goals. They take the lead and inspire others to move forward. This style is
known as the Visionary Leadership style and is necessary in creating a complete leader. All of the
great leaders of the world have a vision. From President John F. Kennedy to Dr. Martin Luther King,
each had visions of something greater. Great leaders give real thought to the values that inspire them
as well as to the people that follow. Ambition and persistence are invaluable to achieving a vision and
are the first steps toward leadership success. On its own a vision does not always make for a great
leader and this is why Visionary Leadership comes in second to Transformational Leadership. A great
leader requires both styles. Adolf Hitler had a vision, as did Pol Pot

Bizzozero Staining Procedure
An experiment Evaluating whether PCNA supports the classification of Bizzozero (1894) tissues
tissues placed in three categories, reflecting their replicative potential.
Introduction
The aim of this experiment was to utilise PCNA and staining procedures to determine whether
different tissue cell samples proliferate. Tissue which exhibited brown stains prove cell proliferation
and mitotic divisions, this would suggest it being the in the first group of Bizzozero s grouping of
tissue types. Tissue samples which showed no brown staining meant no cells had proliferated and
therefore were of a different tissue type that do not regenerate while present in the body. The PCNA
protein is present during cell division/mitosis therefore, its presence suggests that cell proliferation is
occurring or has occurred. An area can be stained using brown diaminobenzidine (DAB) by using an
antibody that is against the PCNA protein. A primary antibody then attaches to the PCNA molecule,
and a secondary antibody (horse radish peroxidase) attaches to the primary antibody. A ... Show more

Tissue sample B showing no brown staining visible:
Tissue sample C showing minimal brown staining:
Conclusion
The three different tissue types exhibit differing levels of cell replication. Proliferation did not take
place in tissue sample A compared to Tissue sample b having very minimal cell proliferation. The
experiment conducted supports Bizzozero s 1894 article which illustrates that based on where the cells
originate from, the cell proliferation will differ.

Shp Reflection
For my cooperative practice in AHS 393, I interned at Indiana State University s Student Health
Promotion (SHP). SHP operates under Student Affairs as a part of the Student Counseling Center to
create and promote a healthy college community. They focus on encouraging students to identify the
benefits of, need for, healthy lifestyle choices through the promotion of comprehensive mind/body
wellness, timely marketing, ongoing direct interactions and by supporting a community that enables
these choices. My supervisor was Janet Weatherly, the associate director of SHP. My main duty and
favorite part of my co op was running their Motivational Monday programs. Each Monday we tabled
in HMSU to talk to the student walking by about a different health topics and resources. Overall, I
really enjoyed my co op. I loved interacting and making a difference right here in my local
community. No two days were ever the same! My only wish was if we could have stayed and done
more programs. Academic Enhancement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I browed and build upon what I learned from AHS 391 Educational Methods, AHS 341 Health
Science Research Method, and the CPE training in AHS 409 Health Screening. During my co op, I
developed and implemented a weekly educational program for my peers through Motivational
Mondays. To do so, I conducted research, developed educational materials and interacted/taught my
peers. I reused the educational methodologies and research technique I producing informational
boards and interactive activities. I used my CPE training to implement campus programs and
behavioral change. I found that teaching health is one of the best ways to learn. I also developed better

Similarities And Differences Between Animal Farm And The...
Power,Utopia and the good life are all topics that coincide with each other to form our lives.
When considering the good life, power and utopia have to be brought into consideration, power needs
utopia and the good life etc.
Animal Farm and the Truman show both make these factors a topic of discussion using allegories and
metaphors as a main force to drive across a point or ideal.
Animal Farm in itself is an allegory, meaning it is made to express ideas, opinions and thoughts.
Truman show on the other hand is a movie made as entertainment, but it still has these key points in it
to express struggles and conflict.
One main point in the two stories is power and a lack of it, in the Truman show, Christof has all power
over Truman s life, while in Animal farm, napoleon has all power over the farm animals, the two
stories revolve around this idea of power and the changes it can make to someone s life.
The Truman show expresses that there is no true freedom in life without power, even though Truman
had a wonderful life that felt free, it was actually entirely controlled, when Truman catches wind of
this he starts rejecting the world around him in an attempt to feel true freedom.
In contrast, the Animals in animal farm have their power taken from them in front of their eyes,
however, a combination of low intelligence and pigs capitalising on animal stupidity leads to the
animals believing they are free and in power while they actually are not at all, the animals definitely
have

Michel De Montaigne On The Cannibals Analysis
French philosopher Michel de Montaigne s essay On the Cannibals , part of the larger collection of his
complete essays, was written before the term nostalgia officially existed. The term nostalgia was
coined by the Swiss physician Johannes Hofer in 1688 whereas On the Cannibals was first published
in 1580 . Hence there is an absence of theory on nostalgia at the time of Montaigne s writing.
However, this does not mean that Montaigne s work cannot be examined in relation to the concept of
nostalgia. It just means that it is necessary to historicise the concept and not impose modern values on
to the premodern use of the term. Modern nostalgia is usually understood as a sentimental longing for
familiar surroundings or for a period of time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montaigne wrote On the Cannibals during the period of the French Wars of Religion fought between
the Roman Catholics and the Huguenots. Montaigne, though a Roman Catholic himself, loathed the
fanaticism and violence of these wars and retired from public life to his lands in the Dordogne,
devoting himself to reading and reflection. For Montaigne, cruelty was a deciding factor that
differentiated the French Wars of Religion from previous conflicts. Montaigne s disgust at the cruelty
committed by his own people during these wars is a central theme running throughout On the
Cannibals . The French Wars of Religion called into question the idea that western European society
was the pinnacle of civilisation as well as the idea that humanity is progressive, forever working to
reach the best version of itself. The concept of the Ages of Man, explored earlier, depicts history and
by proxy humanity as in a state of decline in contrast to the progressive view of history that informs
modern nostalgia in which humanity is striving to reach its most perfect state. Montaigne implicitly
questions the assumption that western European society was the most advanced and civilised at the
time by comparing the behaviour and bloody rituals of the Tupinambá people to the behaviour of the
people in his own

Comparing George Bush and Al Gore
Comparing George Bush and Al Gore
George Bush has seven principles of reform, only four of which I will elaborate on, for a better quality
education in our nation s schools: (1) Achieve Equality; Just as Bush is closing the achievement gap in
Texas, he plans to do so across the states (2) Promote Excellence; Bush believes in clearly defined
standards of basic skills plus crucial knowledge. The states should devise tests to ensure that the
standards are met (3) Ensure that Every Child Can Read; Statistics show that 70% of 4th graders in
low income schools cannot read. Bush stands firm that reading is the pathway to learning and will
make sure that every child can read by 3rd grade (4) Improve School Safety; Juvenile gun laws will be

I think that the only things that our schools need are (1) Recognizing advanced students and providing
advanced education (2) Providing more money to public schools, especially high schools (3) More
advanced technology and provide training in more advanced technological equipment.
ABORTION
In short terms, Bush is against abortion. He believes in pro life with exceptions for rape, incest and life
of the mother. He plans to set the goal that all children should be welcomed in life and protected by
law. He supports parental notification, banning use of taxpayer funds for abortion, and banning partial
birth abortion. He also supports the increasing of adoptions to prevent abortions. He opposes doctor
assisted suicide and believes that a doctor s role is to relieve pain and suffering and cure, not to end
life. Gore, on the other hand, is personally against abortion but he is doing nothing to stop it!! In fact,
he is supporting it by providing funds for programs that inform patients about abortion services in
District of Columbia. Keep it in mind that he is personally against it but also believes that it is a
woman s choice and that he has stood strong time and time again to defend a woman s right to choose.
He also supports the expansion of Medicaid funds for abortion. I am totally in sync with Bush s
beliefs. I am a Christian and I stand firm of what the Bible says and I think that is what Bush is
standing for also. Abortion is wrong morally and for me, it

few of the rewards I received through hard work and dedication during the course. Throughout
English comp 1, I discovered my biggest weakness. I improved some of my various difficulties, and I
achieved a rewarding high point. During the course of English Comp 1, I discovered my ultimate
weakness: commas. Before I took the course, I did not realize how horrendous I was with punctuation

A Report On Lee Kwan Yew Essay
Leadership is the behaviour that brings the future to the present, by envisioning the possible and
persuading others to help you make it a reality. ( Helmrich, 2015, p.n.g). Lee Kwan Yew is the Leader
of Singapore, informally known by his initials LKY, was the first Prime Minister of Singapore, ruling
for more than three decade from 1959 to 1990. He was the leader to bring independence to the
Singapore from Malaysia in 1965; it was 9th August 1965, morning at 10 a.m., 90 words that changed
the life of the people of Singapore and Malaysia, (Yap, n.d.). The voice was from the Singapore Prime

liberty and justice and ever seeking the welfare and happiness of her people in more just and equal

Vertigo Scottie Vs Friedman
In the works Thin Blue Line, Capturing the Friedmans, and Vertigo the creation of reality and the truth
brings justice to wrongdoers, and those who have been wronged. Specifically, the documentaries Thin
Blue Line, and Capturing the Friedmans create a reality that is ambiguous in an effort to show that no
one actually know the truth of the situations in the documentaries. Meanwhile in the film Vertigo
Scottie recreates his past lover, and inadvertently brings the truth out about her death.

In the film, Scottie quickly falls with the heroine Madeline, and through a series of unfortunate events
sees her jump to her death. However, one day when walking the streets of the city, he spots a
woman,Judy, who likes strikingly similar to his past lover. After spotting her he impulsively begins to
recreate the reality of Madeline through Judy by forcing her to dye her hair, and wear the same exact
clothes Madeleine wore, and Rothman describes Scottie s refusal to let his love be lost as the source of
these monstrous actions (Rotham 231). However, it is this inability to let his past go that leads him to
recreate a reality and bring forth the truth. Even so, after he recreates his lover Madeleine, it is not
until Judy makes the mistake of wearing the same neckless his former lover did that sparks realization
for Scottie. After seeing this he is prompted to take Judy to the sight where Madeleine was killed, and
confront her about her involvement in the murder of Madeline. After overcoming his vertigo, Scottie
find himself at the top of the bell tower with Judy, where she ends up jumping to her death. In doing
so, retributive justice is brought to Madeline seeing that her killer dies the same way she did.
However, none of this would have not been possible without Scottie s effort to recreate the reality of
his lover Madeleine. It is through this recreation that truth behind Judy s identity, and the cause of
Madeline s death is

Frankenstein Fear Of Science Essay
Some readers have seen the novel as an illustration of the fear of the power of science. To what extent
do you agree with this view of the novel?
Frankenstein shows a contrast between the supernatural and the scientific and highlights that there are
elements of science which we should fear. This attitude reflected that of many at the time of writing,
as science began to gain credibility and was used more frequently, and Shelley shows this in her novel
through supernatural imagery and language, characterisation and setting. However, the novel can also
be seen not to fear science itself, but the way in which it is manipulated, again shown through the
characterisation of Frankenstein and his professors.
Shelley explores the power of science ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most obvious example of this is Frankenstein s own character. He is seen to be very arrogant,
immature, obsessive and melodramatic, especially in the earlier chapters of the book, an example of
which is when he describes that he was left to struggle with a child s blindness when it came to
studying science. This attitude best shows Frankenstein as someone who is not likely to own up to
their errors, such as later on, when the Creature has murdered William and Justine is punished for the
crime although Frankenstein internally realises that it is his fault. This links cleverly in to the idea that
it is not science itself that is frightening, but those who manipulate it. Frankenstein can also be seen as
a cautionary tale, although perhaps not directed towards science, but again, towards the person who is
using science to inform their behaviour and their studies. It is always very clear in the novel that it is
Frankenstein s own doing that has led to the catastrophe of the monster, as, even if Shelley is trying to
suggest that science itself is the evil in the text, it impossible to overlook the fact that it is
Frankenstein himself who has brought the Creature in to being. There is also another debate of nature
or nurture in the text which could

How the Civil Rights Movement Influenced the Women s...
The civil rights movement influenced the women s liberation movement in four key ways. First, it
provided women with a model for success on how a successful movement should organize itself.
Second, the civil rights movement broadened the concept of leadership to include women. Third, by
fighting for equality, the civil rights movement changed the culture of advocacy and made social
justice a legitimate cause. Finally, by eventually excluding women, the civil rights movement spurred
women to organize their own movement. Without the civil rights movement, the women s movement
likely would never taken off on its own. The civil rights movement (and the activists involved) gave

Black women eventually earned college and graduate degrees and sought full time employment in
higher rates than either black men or white women, while maintaining a community service ethic. The
civil rights movement broadened the definition of leadership to include women, and left an impression
of women as powerful and determined activists. Jo An Robinson and Ella Baker are just two of the
many women who were able to take charge and make an impact on the movement. Robinson led the
Women s Political Council, which plotted strategy for a one day bus boycott in Montgomery following
Rosa Parks arrest. The Council was able to recruit clergy to lend their churches for mass meetings and
was able to tap into a new minister in town, Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. to lead the Montgomery
Improvement Association, which would coordinate the larger Montgomery Bus Boycotts . It was the
women that organized this key moment in the civil rights movement which was, in fact, spurred by a
woman, Rosa Parks, refusing to take her seat in the back of the bus. Ella Baker was similarly key in
the Civil Rights movement. She was instrumental in organizing a conference of student sit in activists
in 1960, forming the beginning of what would become the SNCC. By educating and fostering
leadership, Baker helped members to see themselves as potential leaders regardless of race or gender.

Plot Structure Of The Kite Runner
Khaled Hosseini and Arundhati Roy s novels are devised in such a way that the plot structures are
exact parallels. Thus, they can successfully use the same plot structure to portray two divergent effects
of losing one s innocence in a traumatic event. The plot structure of the novels also reinforces the idea
of innocence. The plot structure for The Kite Runner is chronological, but the plot structure for The
God of Small Things is circular. In his novel, The Kite Runner, Hosseini begins to dive into the
distinction by beginning the novel with introducing the main character, Amir, and his friend Hassan.
Hosseini makes sure to note that the two boys are from different religious clans, and so their
friendship is looked down upon. Hosseini ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The God of Small Things is out of sequence because the novel is jumbled. As a result, Arundhati Roy
uses this to reinforce the idea of a circular plot structure, where the characters are unable to break free
of the cycle. Estha tried to protect Rahel from losing her innocence once the Orangedrink Lemondrink
man molested him, but he was unable to, and as a result the twins end up having sex at the end of the
novel. However, in his novel The Kite Runner Khaled Hosseini portrays Amir as unable to save
Hassan from the rape that takes place, and instead shows Amir protecting Sohrab, Hassan s son, who
was also raped by the same person.
CONCLUSION: In both novels, Arundhati Roy and Khaled Hosseini took careful consideration when
conveying their message to readers. They both utilize similar story plots, plot structure, and symbols
that represent similar meanings. As an author, Khaled Hosseini clearly describes Amir s journey and
his reactions to specific events throughout the novel, crafting his responses in clever ways. Arundhati
Roy also employs the same technique in her novel, choosing to use a similar plot structure, but having
the characters react differently to the scenarios they face. Amir, for example, chooses to take control of
his future not allowing his past to affect his decisions, and thus Hosseini portrays him as hopeful for
the future. However, Roy, chooses to end the novel with the twins, Rahel and Estha,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mtv
Individual report MTV
In 1981, when MTV first aired, John Lack introduced the new channel with Ladies and gentleman,
rock and roll , setting the pace for the music video based network that helped launch dozens of artists
like Michael Jackson, Prince and Duran Duran into stardom. In its early years the programming
consisted only of music videos presented by VJs (Video Jockeys), with high promotional value, which
heavily influenced USA s pop culture. In the late 80 s MTV started producing non musical content
aimed at teenagers and young adults , such as The Ousbornes and The Real World. These reality
shows continued in MTV until the late 90 s, when they were replaced by prank/comedic shows and
game shows. In the same years, MTV s distance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the American culture is widespread, MTV could benefit from providing different content
to different regions, capitalizing the fact that their target listens to national and ethnic recording artists.
They could provide their programmes through Netflix, and then adapt local television to local
preferences, with national artists. That would please their customers because they wouldn t lose access
to the international programming such as the hugely successful Jackass, a programme that increased
MTV s audiences by 17% , but they would feel that MTV respects and values their culture. This
would increase costs, but with careful planning MTV could achieve a balance between international
and national programmes that could justify their investment. In the end what matters is to capitalize on
the market trends, viewing them as opportunities instead of threats.
In conclusion, MTV is a gigantic worldwide company, with a very strong brand value, that has
internationalized in the best way they could. A changing market and cultural differences show that
companies are never safe, and those challenges provide a great room for MTV to expand their

What Changes That Life Insurance Companies Will Face...
This report provides an analysis and illustration on the important changes that life insurance
companies will face in capital management practices with the implement of the new capital regime,
publicly known as Life Insurance Capital Adequacy Test (LICAT). The LICAT framework
transformed to a risk based regime from the current model based Minimum Continuing Capital and
Surplus Requirements (MCCSR).
The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) has published the finalized guideline
of LICAT to be effective in 2018. The new prudential framework represents an evolution in OSFI s
regulatory expectation in capital management; it introduces material changes in the behavior of the
capital metric and the assessment of the financial conditions to better characterize each company s risk
profiles. As a result, companies need to alter their investment strategies to accommodate the changes.
Some of the key components in this report include the comparison between MCCSR and LICAT, the
analysis on the new solvency metric and its derivation, and the potential impact of LICAT on life
insurance companies.

U.s. Counterintelligence And Covert Operations
U.S. Counterintelligence and Covert Operations
Counterintelligence (CI) involves actions aimed at protecting the United States against foreign
intelligence operations and espionage from penetration and disruption by hostile nations or their
intelligence services (Lowenthal, 2014). Three main components of Counterintelligence include
collection, defensive and offensive. Collection is ability to gather intelligence information about
rivalry capabilities against own nation; defensive part of CI involve measures to prevent and thwarting
other nations attempts to penetration into own nations intelligence system; while offensive deal with
running double agents to penetrate, manipulate, exploit, and control targeted adversaries. CI is said to
be the most essential aspect of the intelligence disciplines, in the sense that collecting vast quantities
of secret information and produce excellent analysis of the intelligence, but ineffective
counterintelligence measures may diminish confidence the final results (Van Cleave, 2013). According
to Federal Bureau of Investigation (2011) Significant advances have been made in clarifying and
rectifying intelligence gaps and requirements through the formation of liaison and working
relationships with other U.S. intelligence community agencies, foreign partners, the private sector, and
academia . For instance, since 2001, FBI CI program has resulted to total arrests of 249, of which 46
of them were linked to espionage. Counterintelligence (CI)

How To Be A Mn Conference Case Study
HOW TO BECOME A GOOD DELEGATE
It is difficult to be a competitor in a MUN conference. It can be overwhelming, especially for
beginners and a lot of uncontrollable events can happen. However, preparing yourself by getting the
hang of necessary tasks such as making motions, speeches, and forming blocs, alliances... can help
you feel more confident when attending MUN. And to assist you through the initial difficulties, here
are some things that you need to consider:
Understanding the Rules of Procedure (RoP):
Memorizing the RoP is the most basic preparation you need to make when engaging yourself in MUN.
Having a deep understanding of the RoP allows delegates to act within a conference without any
awkward occurrences. Furthermore, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, strategizing also exists both before and during the conference. Both research and
planning allows delegates to understand carefully the situation and strategize accordingly.
Without these two factors, delegates would either find themselves unknowing of what to do due to the
lack of research, or would take an unfavorable course of action from the lack of careful planning.
While doing research, be it before the conference or observing during the conference, pay attention to:
Your country s own attributes (weaknesses/strengths)
Opponent country s attributes
Ally s attributes
How the situation affects each country
How the country s attributes can be used favorably
For planning and strategizing, consider the following:
What benefits would you gain if you align with/attack another country?
What sacrifices would you have to make to align with/attack another country?
Speeches
MUN is about collaborating and resolving issues together. As such, the speeches that you would make
is not about taking down other delegates ideas, but is instead on convincing others to vote for and
support you. In other words, MUN speeches are meant to be diplomatic, not argumentative.
To make a good speech, delegates should:
Be clear
Be brief
Maintain diplomacy avoid personal attacks
The Caucus
In a MUN conference, the most significant time period other than for speeches and debates is the
caucus. This is because the caucus is used for negotiating and forming

Rahab Prostitute
Rahab is a speed bump within Joshua 2 for three main reasons. First of all: she is a prostitute, and
likely a debt prostitute. Secondly, she knows a lot more about Jericho s security than it seems that she
should, as well as being a good liar. Thirdly, she is a traitor to her own people. Rahab is likely a
successful prostitute, as she lives within the city walls, but being a prostitute, she cannot live much
farther in than the outskirts of the city walls. It is likely that Rahab got into prostitution to pay off her
family s debt, or as a debt slave. (CD, 11/13)
Rahab understood how to lie to the king in such a way that he believed her and in a way that allowed
her to throw the king and his men off track in their search for the spies. ... Show more content on

Rahab is a Canaanite who is supposed to be completely destroyed when the conquering forces enter
Jericho, but instead she shows cunning and initiative by saving the spies from being found during their
mission and entering into a deal with them in exchange for the lives of herself and her family. She
exalts the Israelite s God, stating that the Lord your God is indeed God in heaven above and on earth
below. (Josh 2:11) This shows that she is willing to devote her life to God in order to survive. It is
possible that this devotion is in spite of what she believes, rather than a full conversion, but Rahab is
willing to commit to it in order to survive in the new society when the Israelites conquer her city. We
know that this strategy works because Rahab is mentioned later in the Bible, including in the
genealogy of Matthew. (Matt.

Summary Of A Court Of Thorns And Roses
In 1943, Abraham Maslow developed the psychological theory named the hierarchy of needs, which
describes motivational patterns that humans advance through. The first tier consists of physiological
needs such as food, warmth, and rest. After one accomplishes these, they move onto the second tier
full of safety needs such as security and shelter. Then the third tier makes up belonging needs like
friends and intimate relationships. The fourth tier consists of esteem needs and feelings of
accomplishment. Self actualization makes up the fifth and final tier, by achieving one s full potential.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas displays Maslow s Hierarchy of needs by the main
character Feyre, starting in the bottom tier, slowly moving her way up to the second and third tier,
falling back into the bottom tier, and eventually ending in the third tier. When the books first begins,
Feyre, the protagonist, is the daughter of a merchant who lost all his wealth. She lives with her father
and two older sisters in a one bedroom shack, that does nothing to keep the cold out. Feyre provides
all of the food for the family by hunting in the woods and selling the skins of animals for whatever
money she can get. Feyre states that We d finished our last loaf of bread yesterday, and the remainder
of our dried meat the day before (Maas 2). This shows the severity of the situation, and she even
continues further by saying, We wouldn t last another week without food (Maas 3). Feyre

The Inheritance Of Loss By Kiran Desai
Colonialism phenomenon is one of the aspects in life that has significant impact towards people s
values, feelings, beliefs and experiences. The effect of past colonialism lasts in modern lives, and thus
referred to as post colonialism. Post colonialism refers to the residual effects of colonial domination
and its cultures. Indigenous people internalized colonizers values in almost every aspect of their lives
including the way of thinking, education, social system, culture, economy, language, and so on.
Colonizers values denigrate the values, moral, and even physical appearances of formerly subjugated

Stalin s Influence On Benito Mussolini
Benito Mussolini came to power in the beginning of World War I as a leading proponent of Facism.
He was originally a revolutionary socialist, but later created the paramilitary fascist movement in 1919

more power and control over Italy. When Lenin suffered his first stroke, Stalin helped kept the

Analysis of Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler
The unmistakable dominance of men during the nineteenth century is an influential factor in the
establishment of the central theme of Henrik Ibsen s play Hedda Gabler. Due to Hedda s lack of
independence, she develops a strong desire for control. The direct relationship between Hedda s
marriage with George and her sly, manipulative characteristics is manifested by Ibsen during the work.
Ibsen also exposes weakness in Mrs. Elvsted through her dependability on various male characters for
fulfillment in life. How do expectations of gender roles in the nineteenth century affect plot scheme
and develop a theme of male dominance in Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler? Deeper insight to this
connection may be formed from the analysis of various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elvsted share for each other. The loss of the manuscript, after Hedda destroys it in a fit of raging
jealousy, signifies the death of Eilert and Mrs. Elvsted s child, as well as their relationship. The
catastrophe is too much for Eilert to handle, and Mrs. Elvsted fails to offer a voice of comfort.
Consequently, he takes his own life and destroys Mrs. Elvsted s hope for the future. Her dependency
on her first husband for financial support and then on her true love, Lövborg, for a sensation of self
worth reflects the view of women s helplessness during the nineteenth century. The static character
traits displayed through Mrs. Elvsted s constant reliance on male figures also illustrate the lack of
progress being made by women of the time. Ibsen s creation of female inferiority through Mrs.
Elvsted s failure of independence supports the preconceived notion of male dominance. In addition,
the shy personality traits given to Mrs. Elvsted effectively create a timid female character with
weaknesses regarding self esteem. The submissive statements from Mrs. Elvsted s conversations with
other characters exploit these weaknesses and allow other characters, such as Hedda, to take
advantage of them. Consequently, these opportunities for manipulation dictate Hedda s actions and
also the scheme of the plot. Commonly accepted terms representing informality and casualty to a

Why Electoral Vote Is Better Than Popular Vote
I will reflect on my persuasive speech regarding why the electoral vote is better than the popular vote.
The beginning of the speech build a case for why anyone would want to switch to the popular vote in
the first place, and the second part explained why the electoral vote is still better. Some of the
advantages of the popular vote included that not every vote is considered equal, swing states, and that
people are more informed through the media today than in the past. Despite these benefits, the
electoral college supports federalism, which assists with the dispersion of power, and gives
midwestern states a voice in the election. Additionally, any recount due to fraud or negligence would
be on a statewide level opposed to a federal level. One possible problem regarding organization was
that I had too many sub points, and that caused me to go over the time limit. My speech might have

Health Care System Is Experiencing A Vital Crisis
Currently in the United States, the health care system is experiencing a vital crisis. The U.S. is ranked
the highest paying health care system per capita out of 10 countries including, Australia and the
Netherlands. We are also ranked worst in patient quality and outcome (Bernstein). Americans without
health care are more prone to life threatening health problems and the life expectancy of an uninsured
individual is about 60 years. Shorter life expectancies are due to health conditions such as high blood
pressure and unhealthy lifestyles that could have been controlled if they had health insurance.
Numerous health care reforms have been put into place to improve the system s efficiency. However,
the reforms have made a weak impact on changing the system. The three major problems of the U.S.
health care system are high cost, low accessibility, and poor patient quality and outcome.
The biggest problem that the United States health care faces is the skyrocketing prices. The United
States health care prices have been rising for decades and are still continuing to escalate. The U.S. has
the highest health care prices in the world, even higher than other countries with impressive standards
of living such as Germany, and the UK. Studies predict that the health care could possibly consume
50% of the Gross Domestic Product by 2082 (Darling, 2009, p. 89). With the costs steadily rising, the
result will be millions more people without health insurance on top of those who are

  • 2. Crayfish And Earthworms When society thinks about crayfish and earthworms they become extremely curious about how their bodies operate because of how they are made up. I will give a brief synopsis of both animals before going into major detail about them. According to the online website named dictionary.com, it says that an earthworm is a burrowing annelid worm that lives in the soil. Earthworms play an important role in aerating and draining the soil and in burying organic matter (Dictionary). Crayfish are nocturnal freshwater crustacean that resembles a small lobster and inhabits in streams and rivers (Dictionary). Crayfish and earthworms are some very interesting animals that possess some exclusive qualities both similar and different. As researched, earthworms are known as hermaphrodites, which are defined as an animal having both male and female sex organs or other sexual characteristics, either abnormally or (in the case of some organisms) as the natural condition (Dictionary). During the earthworm lab, I discovered that earthworms have both seminal vesicles and seminal receptacles. Holding sperm after cross fertilization has occurred is the seminal receptacles for females only. Seminal vesicles produce and release sperm and are well known as the male reproductive organs. Gizzards are responsible for mechanical digestion and grinding up the food for earthworms (Earthworm dissection video). On the other hand, for male crayfish to make sperm they must contain testes, unlike the females they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Small Intestine Body Adapted How are different tissues adapted for their roles? The function of the small intestine is digestion. The small intestine is developed for its role because the inside wall of the small intestine is thin, with a large surface area. This allows absorption in the body to happen quickly and more efficiently. The trachea (windpipe) is a hollow tube that connects the voice box to the bronchi of the lungs, allowing the passage of air to flow through. The trachea is lined with ciliated epithelial cells, which have long root hairs called Celia, which removes unwanted substances up through the windpipe so it doesn t block it. The artery s purpose is to carry blood away from heart at high pressure. An artery is adapted for its role because the artery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Leadership Styles Of Leadership Style Part One: Consider what leadership or management style speaks most to you. Discuss that particular style, explain why it fits you better than others. Alternatively, consider the leadership or management style fits you least. Explain what is least desirable with that style from your perspective. What leadership or management style speaks most to me? They are a few leadership styles that I venerate. The Transformational Leadership, the Visionary Leadership, and the Charismatic Leadership styles are the most evident to me. Each one has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages. Moreover, each is congruent with what I believe is necessary to craft the ideal leader and the combination is something I strive to emulate as I learn the nuances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Encourages others. Provides support and recognition. Stirs the emotions of people. Gets people to look beyond their self interest. Inspires people to reach for the improbable. These qualities are fundamental qualities a leader must possess. These are just the building blocks of crafting the consummate leader. Undoubtedly, while sufficient, they are more qualities required. What other qualities should a leader have? In addition to the eight qualities mentioned before, a leader needs a vision. Political sociologists Max Weber and James MacGregor Burns theorized that many leaders are visionaries. These visionary leaders possess a driving sense of purpose and confidence in their ability to achieve their goals. They take the lead and inspire others to move forward. This style is known as the Visionary Leadership style and is necessary in creating a complete leader. All of the great leaders of the world have a vision. From President John F. Kennedy to Dr. Martin Luther King, each had visions of something greater. Great leaders give real thought to the values that inspire them as well as to the people that follow. Ambition and persistence are invaluable to achieving a vision and are the first steps toward leadership success. On its own a vision does not always make for a great leader and this is why Visionary Leadership comes in second to Transformational Leadership. A great leader requires both styles. Adolf Hitler had a vision, as did Pol Pot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Bizzozero Staining Procedure An experiment Evaluating whether PCNA supports the classification of Bizzozero (1894) tissues tissues placed in three categories, reflecting their replicative potential. Introduction The aim of this experiment was to utilise PCNA and staining procedures to determine whether different tissue cell samples proliferate. Tissue which exhibited brown stains prove cell proliferation and mitotic divisions, this would suggest it being the in the first group of Bizzozero s grouping of tissue types. Tissue samples which showed no brown staining meant no cells had proliferated and therefore were of a different tissue type that do not regenerate while present in the body. The PCNA protein is present during cell division/mitosis therefore, its presence suggests that cell proliferation is occurring or has occurred. An area can be stained using brown diaminobenzidine (DAB) by using an antibody that is against the PCNA protein. A primary antibody then attaches to the PCNA molecule, and a secondary antibody (horse radish peroxidase) attaches to the primary antibody. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tissue sample B showing no brown staining visible: Tissue sample C showing minimal brown staining: Conclusion The three different tissue types exhibit differing levels of cell replication. Proliferation did not take place in tissue sample A compared to Tissue sample b having very minimal cell proliferation. The experiment conducted supports Bizzozero s 1894 article which illustrates that based on where the cells originate from, the cell proliferation will differ. SHP operates under Student Affairs as a part of the Student Counseling Center to create and promote a healthy college community. They focus on encouraging students to identify the benefits of, need for, healthy lifestyle choices through the promotion of comprehensive mind/body wellness, timely marketing, ongoing direct interactions and by supporting a community that enables these choices. My supervisor was Janet Weatherly, the associate director of SHP. My main duty and favorite part of my co op was running their Motivational Monday programs. Each Monday we tabled in HMSU to talk to the student walking by about a different health topics and resources. Overall, I really enjoyed my co op. • 7. Similarities And Differences Between Animal Farm And The... Power,Utopia and the good life are all topics that coincide with each other to form our lives. When considering the good life, power and utopia have to be brought into consideration, power needs utopia and the good life etc. Animal Farm and the Truman show both make these factors a topic of discussion using allegories and metaphors as a main force to drive across a point or ideal. Animal Farm in itself is an allegory, meaning it is made to express ideas, opinions and thoughts. Truman show on the other hand is a movie made as entertainment, but it still has these key points in it to express struggles and conflict. One main point in the two stories is power and a lack of it, in the Truman show, Christof has all power over Truman s life, while in Animal farm, napoleon has all power over the farm animals, the two stories revolve around this idea of power and the changes it can make to someone s life. The Truman show expresses that there is no true freedom in life without power, even though Truman had a wonderful life that felt free, it was actually entirely controlled, when Truman catches wind of this he starts rejecting the world around him in an attempt to feel true freedom. In contrast, the Animals in animal farm have their power taken from them in front of their eyes, however, a combination of low intelligence and pigs capitalising on animal stupidity leads to the animals believing they are free and in power while they actually are not at all, the animals definitely have ... • 8. Michel De Montaigne On The Cannibals Analysis French philosopher Michel de Montaigne s essay On the Cannibals , part of the larger collection of his complete essays, was written before the term nostalgia officially existed. The term nostalgia was coined by the Swiss physician Johannes Hofer in 1688 whereas On the Cannibals was first published in 1580 . Hence there is an absence of theory on nostalgia at the time of Montaigne s writing. However, this does not mean that Montaigne s work cannot be examined in relation to the concept of nostalgia. It just means that it is necessary to historicise the concept and not impose modern values on to the premodern use of the term. Modern nostalgia is usually understood as a sentimental longing for familiar surroundings or for a period of time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Montaigne wrote On the Cannibals during the period of the French Wars of Religion fought between the Roman Catholics and the Huguenots. Montaigne, though a Roman Catholic himself, loathed the fanaticism and violence of these wars and retired from public life to his lands in the Dordogne, devoting himself to reading and reflection. For Montaigne, cruelty was a deciding factor that differentiated the French Wars of Religion from previous conflicts. Montaigne s disgust at the cruelty committed by his own people during these wars is a central theme running throughout On the Cannibals . The French Wars of Religion called into question the idea that western European society was the pinnacle of civilisation as well as the idea that humanity is progressive, forever working to reach the best version of itself. The concept of the Ages of Man, explored earlier, depicts history and by proxy humanity as in a state of decline in contrast to the progressive view of history that informs modern nostalgia in which humanity is striving to reach its most perfect state. Montaigne implicitly questions the assumption that western European society was the most advanced and civilised at the time by comparing the behaviour and bloody rituals of the Tupinambá people to the behaviour of the people in his own ... Comparing George Bush and Al Gore Comparing George Bush and Al Gore George Bush has seven principles of reform, only four of which I will elaborate on, for a better quality education in our nation s schools: (1) Achieve Equality; Just as Bush is closing the achievement gap in Texas, he plans to do so across the states (2) Promote Excellence; Bush believes in clearly defined standards of basic skills plus crucial knowledge. The states should devise tests to ensure that the standards are met (3) Ensure that Every Child Can Read; Statistics show that 70% of 4th graders in low income schools cannot read. Bush stands firm that reading is the pathway to learning and will make sure that every child can read by 3rd grade (4) Improve School Safety; Juvenile gun laws will be ... I think that the only things that our schools need are (1) Recognizing advanced students and providing advanced education (2) Providing more money to public schools, especially high schools (3) More advanced technology and provide training in more advanced technological equipment. ABORTION In short terms, Bush is against abortion. He believes in pro life with exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother. He plans to set the goal that all children should be welcomed in life and protected by law. He supports parental notification, banning use of taxpayer funds for abortion, and banning partial birth abortion. He also supports the increasing of adoptions to prevent abortions. He opposes doctor assisted suicide and believes that a doctor s role is to relieve pain and suffering and cure, not to end life. Gore, on the other hand, is personally against abortion but he is doing nothing to stop it!! In fact, he is supporting it by providing funds for programs that inform patients about abortion services in District of Columbia. Keep it in mind that he is personally against it but also believes that it is a woman s choice and that he has stood strong time and time again to defend a woman s right to choose. He also supports the expansion of Medicaid funds for abortion. I am totally in sync with Bush s beliefs. After spotting her he impulsively begins to recreate the reality of Madeline through Judy by forcing her to dye her hair, and wear the same exact clothes Madeleine wore, and Rothman describes Scottie s refusal to let his love be lost as the source of these monstrous actions (Rotham 231). However, it is this inability to let his past go that leads him to recreate a reality and bring forth the truth. Even so, after he recreates his lover Madeleine, it is not until Judy makes the mistake of wearing the same neckless his former lover did that sparks realization for Scottie. • 16. Frankenstein Fear Of Science Essay Some readers have seen the novel as an illustration of the fear of the power of science. To what extent do you agree with this view of the novel? Frankenstein shows a contrast between the supernatural and the scientific and highlights that there are elements of science which we should fear. This attitude reflected that of many at the time of writing, as science began to gain credibility and was used more frequently, and Shelley shows this in her novel through supernatural imagery and language, characterisation and setting. However, the novel can also be seen not to fear science itself, but the way in which it is manipulated, again shown through the characterisation of Frankenstein and his professors. Shelley explores the power of science ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most obvious example of this is Frankenstein s own character. He is seen to be very arrogant, immature, obsessive and melodramatic, especially in the earlier chapters of the book, an example of which is when he describes that he was left to struggle with a child s blindness when it came to studying science. This attitude best shows Frankenstein as someone who is not likely to own up to their errors, such as later on, when the Creature has murdered William and Justine is punished for the crime although Frankenstein internally realises that it is his fault. This links cleverly in to the idea that it is not science itself that is frightening, but those who manipulate it. Frankenstein can also be seen as a cautionary tale, although perhaps not directed towards science, but again, towards the person who is using science to inform their behaviour and their studies. It is always very clear in the novel that it is Frankenstein s own doing that has led to the catastrophe of the monster, as, even if Shelley is trying to suggest that science itself is the evil in the text, it impossible to overlook the fact that it is Frankenstein himself who has brought the Creature in to being. First, it provided women with a model for success on how a successful movement should organize itself. Second, the civil rights movement broadened the concept of leadership to include women. Third, by fighting for equality, the civil rights movement changed the culture of advocacy and made social justice a legitimate cause. Finally, by eventually excluding women, the civil rights movement spurred women to organize their own movement. • 19. Plot Structure Of The Kite Runner Khaled Hosseini and Arundhati Roy s novels are devised in such a way that the plot structures are exact parallels. Thus, they can successfully use the same plot structure to portray two divergent effects of losing one s innocence in a traumatic event. The plot structure of the novels also reinforces the idea of innocence. The plot structure for The Kite Runner is chronological, but the plot structure for The God of Small Things is circular. In his novel, The Kite Runner, Hosseini begins to dive into the distinction by beginning the novel with introducing the main character, Amir, and his friend Hassan. The God of Small Things is out of sequence because the novel is jumbled. As a result, Arundhati Roy uses this to reinforce the idea of a circular plot structure, where the characters are unable to break free of the cycle. Estha tried to protect Rahel from losing her innocence once the Orangedrink Lemondrink man molested him, but he was unable to, and as a result the twins end up having sex at the end of the novel. However, in his novel The Kite Runner Khaled Hosseini portrays Amir as unable to save Hassan from the rape that takes place, and instead shows Amir protecting Sohrab, Hassan s son, who was also raped by the same person. They both utilize similar story plots, plot structure, and symbols that represent similar meanings. As an author, Khaled Hosseini clearly describes Amir s journey and his reactions to specific events throughout the novel, crafting his responses in clever ways. Arundhati Roy also employs the same technique in her novel, choosing to use a similar plot structure, but having the characters react differently to the scenarios they face. Amir, for example, chooses to take control of his future not allowing his past to affect his decisions, and thus Hosseini portrays him as hopeful for the future.
