The Negative Effects Of Canadian Cinema
A nation s cultural texts are often used and appropriated in its quest for self definition.2 Canada s
national identity is a much debated topic and has often been conceptualized as a crisis, especially
through important cultural products like film. Canadian cinema bears a responsibility of reflecting and
creating a national identity, with blurred boundaries and a lack of coherent definition. Negatives often
seem to outweight positives; Canadian cinema, more prominently its English industry, is considered
amateurish and boring, and one bad Canadian film tends to reflect on the industry as a whole. These
views often derive from Canadians themselves, and such self loathing stances originate from a history
of industrial and socio cultural effects, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though such policies have arguably improved the state of the Canadian industry, many problems still
persist. Funding cuts began to take their toll on the industry in the mid 1990s, with the NFB budget
reduced by 4 million. Canadian box office figures are included as part of the American domestic
market, a fact that still remains true years later after the American vertical integration in 1927.22 The
Canadian economic dependence on the American film industry, as will be discussed in the second part
of this essay, is one of the key obstructions of Canada s cinematic identity, as well as its identity at
large. The industrial context of Anglo Canadian cinema has heavily affected the views that Canadians
hold of themselves as they consume national films, but it goes the other way as well; the collective
films of a nation can reveal much about its collective consciousness, acting as a metaphor for its state
of mind.23 The second part of the essay will examine Canada s insistence on comparing its films to
Hollywood models due to the industrial contexts previously mentioned, then reveal the problematic
implications of defining Canada s identity in that

The Effects Of Classical Conditioning On Operant Conditioning
Abstract
Reinstatement is a phenomenon that describes the return of an extinguished response following
presentation of the US in classical conditioning (Bouton Nelson, 1998). This phenomenon is
dependent upon experimental context, as context promotes an association between the CS and US
(Bouton, 2004). A lever pressing response was trained in rats to study the context dependency of
extinction and reinstatement in operant conditioning. The current study demonstrates that
reinstatement occurs in operant conditioning, and remains context dependent, as reinstatement only
occurred when subjects were presented with a reinforcer following extinction and were kept in the
same context for all experimental phases.
Reinstatement of an Extinguished Response is Context Dependent in Operant Conditioning
Learning processes by which stimulus specific behaviours are developed have been studied in great
depth in recent psychological literature. One such process is that of classical conditioning; the
presentation of an unconditioned stimulus (US) e.g. food, with a conditioned stimulus (CS) e.g. a tone,
that will elicit a response (UR), e.g. salivation. Following repeated simultaneous exposure to the CS
and US, the subject will eventually exhibit a response (CR) in the presence of the CS alone (Bouton
Nelson, 1998). However, the behaviours learned during classical conditioning can be removed in the
extinction phenomenon; withdrawal of the US, so that a response to the CS is no

Claude Debussy Essay
Impressionism is the movement in the arts that favored exploration of the elements that include light,
color and sound over literal presentation. This effort in music was more concerned with human
perception and how the artwork would be impressed on us rather that expressionism is concerned with
gestures and how they reflect internal psychological mindsets. One of the most innovated composers
that is considered an impressionist composer is Claude Debussy, who focuses his artwork on the
visual aspect. In his first book of Préludes there are two pieces of music that show Debussy s uses of
impressionism are Violes by the influence from painter Monet. The start of Debussy as an
impressionist came from the help of mentor, Erik Statie, who influenced Debussy to follow lead of
painters such as Monet in order to develop music. Taking his mentor s advice we can see the link
between the music of Debussy and the paintings of Monet by the movement away from harmonic ...

The relationship between the existence of gall on the goldenrod and the development on the plants by
using aspect measurement at the Riverwood Conservatory
Introduction
This study shows that the present of the gall on the stems of goldenrod has a taller height of stems
than the ones that without galls. The averaging about 4 feet (1.2m) in height, goldenrod is a perennial
with clusters of bright yellow flowers. It has been used for centuries in the treatment of kidney stones,
urinary tract infections, a variety of other medical condition. (1) Survival probability depends on gall
size; in small galls the larvae is vulnerable to parasitoid ovipositor, whereas larvae in large galls are
more frequently eaten by avian predators. (2) During the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the existing of a gall would not impact on the development on the Goldenrod plants, such
as based on average stem height, which was the stem height is shorter than the ones are normal by the
factor of the presence of a gall. Secondly, the presence of a gall also would not impacted the diameter
of gall and in general that won t be an impact on the plants development. Moreover, based on the
result that have been collected, the Goldenrod stem was thinner than the normal ones also by a factor
of whether there was a gall or not on the plants. The presence of a gall did not significantly affect final
stem height but did slow the growth of ramets during the period of most rapid gall growth. (3)Major
errors that could occurred during this investigation was that groups were not able to give out a
confidence measurement as in a total that nine group might have performed this observation by using
their particular way, which means the data collection might be uncertain due to the groups perform the
experiment differently. On top of it, it is important that whether the performed group used a ground as
a reference point for recording the height of stem from the plant, which would lead to the failed of the
hypothesis and draw an incorrect result at the end of this observation. Suggestion that could avoid this
error occur is to give specific way

Merce Cunningham s Influence On Contemporary Dance
In my opinion, Merce Cunningham is the most influential person in the history of contemporary
dance. Cunningham was both a dancer and in the early 1940s began to choreograph. A former dancer
of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Cunningham went on to found the Merce Cunningham Dance
Company, where many of the dancers went on to become prestigious choreographers as well. In his
works, the choreography, music and design all work separately yet together. Through his belief that
anything can follow anything (Au 155), use of space and music, exploration of chance, is what makes
Merce Cunningham the most influential person in the history of dance.
As written in Ballet and Modern Dance, The choreographer played the role of the painter, selecting
what the viewer saw and directing his focus to different performers or areas of the stage (155). This
statement describes Merce Cunningham s approach to choreography and space perfectly. In
Cunningham s works, there is no front and center spot. The front and center spot takes place all over
the stage and the performance can be viewed from any angle. Also, Independence was central in
Cunningham s works. For example, the video shown in class of the dancers in the warehouse, shows
the dancers at every angle and even when the camera focuses on one ... Show more content on

One of the chance methods he used, was to ...toss coins or roll dice to determine crucial aspects of a

would not hear the music they would be dancing to until it came time to perform. He absorbed the
aspects of everyday, or pedestrian, movements into his works. Cunningham rewrote the traditional
relationship between dance and music: dancers did not dance to the music. Essentially, the dancers

Why Forecasting Models Have Been Developed
Any organisation needs to have an idea of how the market and customer s needs may change in the
future. That s why forecasting models have been developed; they offer the management a chance to
set up a plan to cope with changes that the organization may come across. In this context, the ISO
organization conducts a survey every year on different countries to make a census of the number of
ISO registrations. What are the causes for these numbers? How will the ISO 9001 registration
numbers evolve?
In the following, we re going to focus on the ISO 9001 registrations in the world all over and different
regions based on the data provided in the survey conducted by ISO, and apply forecasting techniques
that we ve seen during the course in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It provides the requirements for the implementation of a quality management system for organizations
wishing to continuously improve their customer satisfaction and provide compliant products and
services. It is a generic and process focused set of standards, meaning it can be applied to any
organization operating in any sector or industry; it targets the processes within the organization rather
than the resulting product/output.
ISO 9001 has gained its popularity amongst organisations due to many reasons. The certificate is a
proof of the organisation s aptitude to provide a good/product that respects international standards for
quality. Moreover, the organisation gains a credibility that is extremely beneficial when dealing with
customers and suppliers. The ISO 9001 provides a set of standards and guidelines for the staff to
respect and act upon. Also, the certificate prioritizes the customer s satisfaction, allowing the
organisation to gain their loyalty.
Overview of ISO 9001 registrations in the world all over, Africa, Europe, Russia and Morocco In this
part, the graphs for Russia and Morocco, and Africa and Europe have been separated to give a better
visualisation of the evolution of the registrations. If put in the same graph, the high numbers for
Russia would cloud the Moroccan registrations and would make it appear as a plateaued graph.

Legally Speaking Can Online Piracy Be Stopped By Laws
With how vast and expansive the internet is today, online censorship is a huge debate that will always
be ongoing. There are mainly two sides of this debate. One side says that online censorship is needed
no matter what, and the other side says that the internet is free and that the internet can never be
controlled by the on company or even the government. While both sides have a great point, there is
still a side to take.
The internet in today s day and age is a huge part of everyday life. Some people use it to make
business calls, or have their own website for their store, and even send important information to others
all around the globe. However, there are also websites such as piracy sites that allow users to
download copyrighted material ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How can this be? Well, from a business standpoint there may be some money loss, however, there are
other ways that this can also produce a significant amount of income. When someone pirates an
album, for example, if they listen to it and then like it, they are going to get more of the artist s work
or more of their albums. When this happens, they might tell all of their friends to check them out and
then they will want to go pirate, or even buy, an album that that band made. Most artists usually have
concerts that require payment to get in. When this group of friends go to a concert that the band is
having within the area, they are supporting this newly found band. Artists make most of their money
from the concerts and shows that they do, not the albums that they sell on iTunes or in the stores. That
money goes to the producers and the people who put out the

Goblin Market Sisterhood
Goblin Market and Sisterhood At the surface level, Goblin Market appears to be just a children s poem
about being a hero and the importance of sisters. Delve into a deeper level and you find, as Lona Mosk
Packer puts [an] emotional experience universally valid, (375). Christina Rossetti s poem Goblin
Market has three main themes that critics argue: the importance of sisterhood, the sexual implications
and the dangers of erotic love and a Christ like sacrifice. These themes appear through the language
used, the allusions and comparisons made throughout.
In this poem, there are a lot of implications of Christ and how Lizzie is the embodiment of Christ,
even though she is a woman. In the poem, Lizzie is seen as the redeemer of Laura; ... Show more

experiences with these women. In this poem, Rossetti maybe eluding to these women who, Helsinger

How Does Shakespeare Make Macbeth A Tragic Play
Shakespeare manage to make records of the play Macbeth about two hundred years ago with a solid
tipped feather pen. Yet, his work has been remarkably blasted out of the magnitude of classic drama.
Was it a Tragedy or not? The only one who can truly answer this question is Shakespeare himself.
There are many scenes that take place in the play of Macbeth, which verifies that this is a tragic play.
There are a plethora amounts of murders of a large number of innocent people. one of the murders are
of King Duncan, who is killed by Macbeth. The second one is the murder of Banquo, which Macbeth
tricked. The third one is the murder of Macduff s wife and son, which Macbeth also tricked. These
senseless killings are what make Macbeth a tragic play. The first murder was King Duncan. Duncan
was a man of respect. Everyone in Scotland respected him. He was an amazing leader and father to his
children and Macbeth. Duncan had no enemies in his kingdom. One of the reasons that Macbeth killed
King Duncan was because he was impatient and selfish and wanted to be above everyone in the
kingdom. Macbeth wanted to be in charge of everything that was happening in Scotland. Macbeth

knew that King Duncan was not killed by his loyal, royal guards but was killed by the one and only

Transitions are used to show the passing of the flow of control from activity to activity. They are

Animal Imagery In Fairy Tales
Historiographical Essay Over time, historians have interpreted the use of animal imagery in western
folk and fairy tales as a means for providing entertainment and moral lessons to western society.
However, many historians have different ideas about how animal imagery and stereotypes actually
affect a society besides keeping away from wolves and bears and such. Dr. Jack Zipes, a professor of
German and comparative literature, promotes in his paper, What Makes a Repulsive Frog So
Appealing: Memetics and Fairy Tales, that the story of The Frog Prince is actually a story about the
strategies of mating and how the frog symbolizes its appearance of an unsuitable mate to a suitable
one. In addition to how specific animal stereotypes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whatever the minor variations, Zipes argues that there are elements that are the same throughout that
become the metaphors that strengthen his mating strategy theory. Starting at the beginning, the
princess is young and has reached puberty, most likely with her golden ball symbolizing her virginity
and purity. She brings out the ball to play with as a means of showing her availability and losing the
ball in the water is representing how she is testing out the waters for suitable mates. However, an
unsuitable mate, the frog, shows up and she rejects him. This rejection, Zipes argues, reflects the
rejection by women who were forced into arranged marriages by their fathers either based on
appearance, age, or wealth. However, the princess s father says she must do what the frog says, which
is to sleep in her bed, which further symbolizes the struggles of an arranged marriage. However, in the
1857 version of the tale, the princess throws the frog against the wall to show her sexual
independence, because she knows that she must bear an heir and that he will be an unsuitable mate
that will neither make her children healthy and strong of give them financial security. Through this
display of sexual independence, and the frog transforms into a handsome prince, becoming a more
suitable mate for the princess . In a contrasting point against the external conflict between human

Introduction
Negotiating is something that has been around since the beginning of mankind. We all start off
negotiating as little kids, even for little things such as candy and toys. When we grow up, negotiating
becomes sort of the norm. We negotiate consciously and subconsciously every single day. When you
think about it, negotiation takes up most of our lives. We are always trying to see what we can get as a
benefit without giving up much. It always comes down to the pie, how big is the pie and who can get
the biggest slice. As we become adults with careers, there are ever some that become flat our
Negotiators . This means that all they do for a living is negotiate. They are master negotiators and are
praised for being so. When it comes to negotiation, persuasion is also within that talent. You have to
be able to get what you want from people without them feeling like they are being taken advantage of
and that they are also getting just as big a piece of the pie as you are getting, although in reality they
are not. Negotiation Negotiation is all about a strategy. The end result is usually to end a problem that
someone is having, whether it is personally or

Hindu Temple And Yoga Service
From the Hindu Temple and Yoga service, surprisingly, the people I interviewed had a lot of
similarities in their thoughts and responses. For Hinduism, rituals consist of visiting the Hindu Temple
to chant prayers and participate in events such as singing Kirtans, songs in praise of God. Radhika
Ramesh and Raje Sathasivam both stated they attend Hindu rituals because it helps them to connect
with their religion and their community; most of the devotees can converse in Indian language and
connect with each other since people share the same heritage and culture. Through this connection, I

From Hinduism, I realized that religion plays a pivotal role for people since there are prayers and
rituals for each and every aspect of everyday life and special occasions. Religion not only connects
people to their Gods, but it also connects people spiritually through gatherings at the temple.
According to yoga instructor Lynne Boucher and Julie Tette, people oftentimes take part in yoga as a
means to become calm, peaceful, and centered through physical movement. The yoga service that I
attended was offered for Dance Team members as team bonding day right before our competition. For
yoga, I think the ritual and emotional dimension is most important for the interviewees. The emotional
dimension is strongly present since yoga is primarily about self reflection of one s own emotions such
as love, stress, or fear. During yoga, Mrs. Boucher guided our thoughts us by asking us to reflect about
what our biggest fears are for the upcoming competition. Mrs. Boucher also guided our session by
telling us think about the stresses that occur within the dance team; then as we acknowledged our
stresses, she told us to breathe out and let go of worries, pressures, and anxieties. For the ritual
dimension of yoga, it plays a central role since it consists of collectively gathering to support each
other in a spiritual and physical way. When we held the tree pose, we realized how hard it was told

Gambling Addiction
Introduction Gambling can stimulate the brain s reward system much like drugs or alcohol can,
leading to addiction (Compulsive, 2016). That is when gambling goes from a fun, harmless pastime to
an unhealthy obsession with serious consequences. Whether you bet on horses, buy lottery tickets,
play poker, or pull the arm on the One Armed Bandits in a casino, at the track, or online if your
gambling becomes a problem, it can strain your relationships, interfere with work, and lead to
financial disaster. It can cause you to do things you never thought you would do like stealing money,
not paying your bills, and pawning everything you own to get more money. All so you can keep
gambling or pay your debts. Gambling addiction also called Compulsive gambling is the
uncontrollable urge to keep gambling despite the toll it takes on your life. Gambling means that you re
willing to risk something you value in the hope of getting something of even greater value
(Compulsive, 2016).
Individual Impact
When a person is a compulsive gambler or an addict, the effects are devastating. Many addicts will
use credit cards , loans, or even tap our their retirement fund to pay for their addiction. The result
places them in debt to the point of losing homes, jobs, vehicles, and even filing bankruptcy. If they
become to attached to the gambling they can forget to care for themselves causing poor physical and
emotional health. It can also cause additional addictions to drugs, smoking, or alcohol

I Want A Wife
Gender opportunities in the household have never been equal, this can be seen in advertisements, on
television, or even in the home. In society, mothers are expected to remain at home, to tidy the house
and take care of the children, while fathers get to go off to work, and unwind once they go home. In
the essay I Want a Wife by Judy Brady, the author showcases all the duties that are expected from
wives. Brady utilizes a sarcastic tone, claiming she wants a wife , then proceeds to write a wide range

I can relate to what Brady is saying because throughout my entire life it had been my mother who
stayed at home to take care of me; I would get sick and my mother would pamper me, I d be
bamboozled by an uproar of questions only an overbearing mother would ask, and whenever I am
stuck on something, and am in need of some help, the first person I think to ask is my mother. My
father can be somewhat helpful at times, but he is almost never around, and claims he does not have to
do much anyways because he goes to work. It s critical for both parents to take equal responsibility,
because parenting is not an easy job and it s unjust to put all the work on the mother. Parenting, like
marriage, is an equal partnership and women shouldn t be expected to care more for the children than
their fathers, who get to have it

Analysis of Bruce Springsteen s Song Devils Dust Essay
Analysis of Bruce Springsteen s Song Devils Dust
In times of war it is quite common for people to start questioning their values and their actions and be
unsure of the path they are taking. This is common because to protect our values we often are told that
we have to take actions that conflict with those values. One example would be how to protect our
liberties we must sometimes restrain those liberties during treacherous times. However, the ultimate
question is whether or not going against the very values we stand for is a hypocritical and wrongful
action plan. Bruce Springsteen approaches this very issue in his song Devils Dust , from the CD with
the same title, and he subtly criticizes how the United States is betraying ... Show more content on

The refrain goes like this, When I look into your eyes / There s just devils and dust . Eyes are often
used in poetry and in popular culture as a path to see what somebody really feels and how that person
is really like in the inside. If in a person s eyes there s just devils and dust it shows that that person is
troubled, haunted, and desolated. The visual image of devils and dust illustrates a godforsaken place,
which is what that person s soul has become. Following that the speaker tells his friend, Bobby, how
they are a long, long way from home . These verses can have two meanings: they can refer to a soldier
in a war (thus the relation with the Iraq War) or they could mean that we have strayed so far away
from our values, from what we were founded upon, that this is no longer home, it is now a strange
place. Many people argue, and with some justification, that the United States in the past years is
becoming less and less like the country it was founded to be. The verse, I feel a dirty wind blowing
once more takes us to the Iraq War since it evokes the image of a desert. It also relates, together with
the finger on the trigger , to the Wild West, which seems to be where Springsteen has gotten most of
the imagery for his CD (as it can be seen in songs with titles such as Black Cowboys and The Hitter ).
The Wild West used to be a treacherous place, which relates with the

Discrimination Essay On Discrimination
Discrimination Today in 2017, people are being discriminated against because they are gay or
transgender. These people are being killed just because they want to be themselves and people are
discriminating against them simply because of their appearance and gender. Also, people say that
women can t do certain things that men can do and people of color are more likely to be shot at by
police because of the color of their skin. The idea that many times, certain groups in society are
discriminated against due to their race, gender, and appearance is a theme that is expressed in the early
American texts, On Being Brought From Africa to America by Phillis Wheatley, The Story of An Hour
by Kate Chopin, and The Crucible by Arthur Miller. First, in the poem On Being Brought From Africa
to America by Phillis Wheatley, a little girl is taken from her family in Africa and brought to America.
She was taken because of the color of her skin so Americans were discriminating against her due to
her race. In the poem on line 5 and 6, Wheatley writes that many Americans viewed her sable race
with a scornful eye. This quotation shows how openly racist and prejudiced many whites were
towards black slaves. Not only did whites viewed slaves as inferior, but they even believed that the
black race was diabolical. The term diabolical suggests a sense of evil. Secondly, the story The Story
of An Hour by Kate Chopin focuses on secret, repressed desires of women for individuality

Symbolism In The Film Adaptation Of Fences
In the movie adaptation of Fences, the character Gabriel Maxson is a psychologically damaged man
who carries a trumpet throughout the movie. He would eventually be accidently institutionalized by
his brother Troy Maxson. An appealing aspect of the movie is its use of symbolism, such as Gabriel s
trumpet. This damage to Gabriel s mind caused him to believe he is not human but the angel Gabriel.
The trumpet physically represents Gabriel s delusions because the archangel Gabriel uses his trumpet
to announce the Judgment Day. The topic of Judgment Day is constantly mumbled by Gabriel
throughout the movie and he eventually uses the trumpet to open the gates for Troy Maxson. Gabriel s
interactions with Rose are less tense compared to the interactions between Gabriel and his ... Show

Although, they are siblings, Troy acts a lot like Gabriel s father and continues to treat him like a child
instead of an adult who is capable of living alone. I think Gabriel s childish and carefree nature is
supposed to contrast Troy s cynical nature and perspective on life. Gabriel is rarely upset in the movie
and this is because he is not mentally stable, so perhaps the writers wanted to show that in reality, you
have to go insane in order to fully cope and be optimistic about the reality you are living in. In a way,
Gabriel represents the idea of ignorance is bliss because he cannot fully understand the world around
him; he is able to be happy. If I were able to study the movie in depth, I would most likely pursue the
usage of colors and lighting throughout the movie. I know that the movie Psycho utilized the set and
the imagery of the set to also tell the story so I study the movie again to see if Denzel Washington had
done the same

Essay about The Works of E. B. White
Like all other authors, E. B. White s work was critically analyzed throughout his career. Most would
give bad feedback, but everyone loved him and his writing. He had such a unique style of writing that
made him popular for all ages. His books ranged from children books all the way to humor and
knowledge about the styles of writing for adults. His ability to open up readers imaginations draws
them in and makes them wanting more. With that, E. B. White is still considered one of the most loved
and best selling authors in history today. Elwyn Brooks White was born on July 11, 1899. As a child,
White did not enjoy school much. He preferred to be outside like any other young boy (Meet E. B.

According to Delaney, Thoreau s subtle humor and individualistic philosophy has influenced White
and it can be seen through his writing, including his short fiction. Delaney also said that White never
lost his sense of humor even when dealing with depressing subjects. Most characteristic of White s
short stories is their strange mixture of humor and emotional distress. In this way he resembles his
friend James Thurber. Thurber was a major influence on White, just as White was on him. Delaney
also went on to say that they were both admirers of Henry James, and that older writer s high literary
standards and dedication to his craft are obviously reflected in White s short stories. White has also
been praised for his use of prose style. This makes his writing flow easily and seem almost effortless.
Years before he started working at The New Yorker, White had started to write stories about a little
mouse named Stuart Little and in 1941 he decided he wanted to finish the stories. In 1945, Stuart
Little was published. This novel is about conflict, coping, persistence, and hope. It s an episodic
adventure tale reminiscent of novels in the picaresque style. A fantasy is also relayed through
omniscient third person narration. In this story, Stuart is challenged by his size and must struggle to
complete even the simplest tasks that most people take for

Relationships In Interracial Relationships
With interracial relationships growing widely throughout the country, many are becoming accepting of
the change. On the other hand, racism and prejudice gloom over many individuals and their beliefs.

Furthermore, with most black men marrying white women, this becomes a conflict for black women,
hence why they are against black white interracial marriages. It has brought a concern to the black
community because the marriageable pool is so small. With this being said, black women have voiced
their opinion, With relatively fewer suitable black men in the dating pool, some black women have
expressed resentment that so many black men (8.4 percent) marry white women. They accuse these
men of using white women as a status symbol (Gale). According to most black women, many believe
that the reason for a woman of a different race dating a black man is the purpose of absolving them
from racism; thus, the reason for a black male to marry a woman is for a social symbol. With this
being said, most black women find themselves struggling to find a man of their own race due to
women of other race taking potential partners in their racial group. Some women of color object
interracial relationships because black men tend to be more attracted to other races, leading them to be
ashamed of their culture. This furthers their perspective on miscegenation, as most feel that they have

Essay on Comparing Hinduism and Buddhism
Comparing Hinduism and Buddhism
While Hinduism and Buddhism come from the same cultural backgrounds, they are extremely diverse
in their beliefs on afterlife, deity, and rituals. Both religions believe in reincarnation, but it is where an
individual goes after he or she gets off the endless cycle that differs. These religions also part when it
comes to whom they do or do not worship. Every religion comes with rituals and Hinduism and
Buddhism are no exceptions.
Hindu followers have no doubt they go to moksha after they accomplish redemption, but Buddhists
believe that the main goal is to achieve nirvana in the afterlife. A Hindu can conquer redemption by
living a life of asceticism. After becoming a Sadhu, or holy man, and renouncing ... Show more

The Eight Fold Path essentially states pupils should have the right knowledge, speech, aspirations,
behavior, livelihood, efforts, mindfulness, and know self concentration. Following the Eight Fold Path
leads to achieving nirvana.
Another distinction between Hinduism and Buddhism is their concepts of deity. Although Hinduism
claims to be a monotheistic religion, worshiping only Brahma Nerguna, Hindus worship 33 million
other gods that are aspects of Brahma Nerguna. Some of the most common gods or aspects are
Ganesha, Vishnu, and Shiva. Ganesha is the god of good luck, Vishnu is the god of families, health,
and children, and Shiva is the destroyer. Buddhism has different branches that seem to contradict its
original teachings. Some Buddhists worship Buddha, while the remainder of Buddhist think of
Buddha as just a man and follow his teachings.
An additional polarity of Hindus and Buddhists are their unique rituals and practices. The most
fundamental ceremonies for every Hindu are those that involve the rites of passage. These begin with
the first time a child eats solid food. The last rites are the funeral ceremonies and the yearly offerings
to dead ancestors. Rotating prayer wheels is a ritual of Tibetan Buddhists. The prayer wheels have
inscribed mantras or sacred chants. The wheel is believed to release benevolent forces and acquire
merit for the worshipper.
Hinduism and Buddhism have a variety of different beliefs. In Hinduism you become one

The Heart Rate Recovery Times
This experiment was performed to see the changes in the heart rate recovery times of in season, off
season, and non athlete s hearts. We spent three days testing our runners, and their heart rate recovery
times. Every student checked their initial heart rate, and then ran for 30 seconds. At the end of 30
seconds, we timed how long it took them for their heart rate to reach their normal again. After our
research, we found Scientific Journals where scientists had performed similar experiments. We
obtained information from Morganroth s hypothesis (Naylore 2012). He said that athletic hearts had
morphed into something stronger. He concluded that athletes exercising developed cardiac
hypertrophy. Our research made us more aware of the factors that could cause an athlete s heart to
recover faster than a non athlete. Some of the factors we found were: hypertrophy, strength trained
heart, and endurance trained heart. These factors could help determine why we concluded the results
that we found. We concluded that the in season athlete s hearts recovered much faster than the other
two categories. The in season athlete s heart recovered at an average rate of 41.8 seconds. The second
fastest was the Off season athlete s heart which recovered at an average rate of 51.7 seconds, and the
non athletes falling behind at 63.5 seconds. We believe that the in season athlete s heart recovered
faster, because they are accustomed to exercising, and they are training each day for

2.3.2 Respiratory Gating for Radiation Therapy
Respiratory gating techniques are used to track the tumor motion in uenced by respiratory cycles
during external beam radiation therapy in order to ensure tumoricidal dose to the target site while

Two important components that are considered when analyzing respiratory motion patterns are phase
and displacement. The beam is red at the target site depending on the phase or displacement
windows chosen during the respiratory motion. Due to the gated technique, the overall treatment
process takes longer when compared to the conventional methods of administering radiation therapy.
The ratio between the gated beam delivery and the overall treatment time determines the eciency of
the treatment called duty cycle. However, even after the gate has been optimized for a respiratory
cycle, there exists minimal tumor motion called the residual motion Berbeco et al. (2005). To optimize
the gateing technique that improves the therapeutic ecacy of radiation therapy and provides patient
safety, a balance between the two (duty cycle and residual motion) needs to be met. The location and
the size of the gate are dependent on the tracking of the target site or host organ by means of internal
and external surrogates, internal and external markers or markerless

Shakespeare Henry Iv Part 1

the fictional character Hal as a loose, dangerous youth and a cold, calculating adult. However in
comparison to Hal s real life historical counterpart King Henry V, Shakespeare describes Hal in a
harsher manner. Is it possible that Shakespeare is attempting to divulge an opinion that he has about
King Henry V s kinghood through details and characteristics he shares about his fictional character
Hal in his plays? Based on several of Shakespeare s plays, namely those that include Hal as a
character, it is clear that Shakespeare believes in the divine right to rule and is likely injecting his view

If the training material is boring and dry more then likely your employees are not going to be engaged
and will walk away from the training session dazed and confused. Banking industries use many
different kinds of training. The most effective training is the training that is outsourced. This gives the
employee someone else s view on the subject compared to your supervisor who you see on a daily
basis. The banking industry has discovered that when they outsource their training programs they
receive a bigger response from the employees. The overall benefits are much higher then any other
type of training. People learn by doing, nobody learns much by listening or reading only. So lecture
training is not welcomed. The most commonly used method for transferring information in education
today is the lecture. Lecturing is all about the presenter and not the student. The banking industry has
found that when training is presented in a form of a lecture many people seem to nod off or doodle on
their notepad instead of listening. This is a waste of time and money. Interaction is the key. Types of
interaction include employee to employee interaction, employee to supervisor interactions, and
supervisor to supervisor interaction. The more interaction there is in the organization, the better the
learning. When employees interact with each other they are forced to use the information, moving the
information into their long term memory, and retaining it for

  • 2. The Negative Effects Of Canadian Cinema A nation s cultural texts are often used and appropriated in its quest for self definition.2 Canada s national identity is a much debated topic and has often been conceptualized as a crisis, especially through important cultural products like film. Canadian cinema bears a responsibility of reflecting and creating a national identity, with blurred boundaries and a lack of coherent definition. Negatives often seem to outweight positives; Canadian cinema, more prominently its English industry, is considered amateurish and boring, and one bad Canadian film tends to reflect on the industry as a whole. These views often derive from Canadians themselves, and such self loathing stances originate from a history of industrial and socio cultural effects, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though such policies have arguably improved the state of the Canadian industry, many problems still persist. Funding cuts began to take their toll on the industry in the mid 1990s, with the NFB budget reduced by 4 million. Canadian box office figures are included as part of the American domestic market, a fact that still remains true years later after the American vertical integration in 1927.22 The Canadian economic dependence on the American film industry, as will be discussed in the second part of this essay, is one of the key obstructions of Canada s cinematic identity, as well as its identity at large. The industrial context of Anglo Canadian cinema has heavily affected the views that Canadians hold of themselves as they consume national films, but it goes the other way as well; the collective films of a nation can reveal much about its collective consciousness, acting as a metaphor for its state of mind.23 The second part of the essay will examine Canada s insistence on comparing its films to Hollywood models due to the industrial contexts previously mentioned, then reveal the problematic implications of defining Canada s identity in that ... • 3. The Effects Of Classical Conditioning On Operant Conditioning Abstract Reinstatement is a phenomenon that describes the return of an extinguished response following presentation of the US in classical conditioning (Bouton Nelson, 1998). This phenomenon is dependent upon experimental context, as context promotes an association between the CS and US (Bouton, 2004). A lever pressing response was trained in rats to study the context dependency of extinction and reinstatement in operant conditioning. The current study demonstrates that reinstatement occurs in operant conditioning, and remains context dependent, as reinstatement only occurred when subjects were presented with a reinforcer following extinction and were kept in the same context for all experimental phases. Reinstatement of an Extinguished Response is Context Dependent in Operant Conditioning Learning processes by which stimulus specific behaviours are developed have been studied in great depth in recent psychological literature. One such process is that of classical conditioning; the presentation of an unconditioned stimulus (US) e.g. food, with a conditioned stimulus (CS) e.g. a tone, that will elicit a response (UR), e.g. salivation. Following repeated simultaneous exposure to the CS and US, the subject will eventually exhibit a response (CR) in the presence of the CS alone (Bouton Nelson, 1998). However, the behaviours learned during classical conditioning can be removed in the extinction phenomenon; withdrawal of the US, so that a response to the CS is no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Claude Debussy Essay Impressionism is the movement in the arts that favored exploration of the elements that include light, color and sound over literal presentation. This effort in music was more concerned with human perception and how the artwork would be impressed on us rather that expressionism is concerned with gestures and how they reflect internal psychological mindsets. One of the most innovated composers that is considered an impressionist composer is Claude Debussy, who focuses his artwork on the visual aspect. In his first book of Préludes there are two pieces of music that show Debussy s uses of impressionism are Violes by the influence from painter Monet. The start of Debussy as an impressionist came from the help of mentor, Erik Statie, who influenced Debussy to follow lead of painters such as Monet in order to develop music. The musical materials that he used in the prelude include tenary form and a pentatonic scale makes the piece vague but the piece uses imagery over structure. • 5. Goldenrod Lab Report The relationship between the existence of gall on the goldenrod and the development on the plants by using aspect measurement at the Riverwood Conservatory Introduction This study shows that the present of the gall on the stems of goldenrod has a taller height of stems than the ones that without galls. The averaging about 4 feet (1.2m) in height, goldenrod is a perennial with clusters of bright yellow flowers. It has been used for centuries in the treatment of kidney stones, urinary tract infections, a variety of other medical condition. Moreover, based on the result that have been collected, the Goldenrod stem was thinner than the normal ones also by a factor of whether there was a gall or not on the plants. The presence of a gall did not significantly affect final stem height but did slow the growth of ramets during the period of most rapid gall growth. (3)Major errors that could occurred during this investigation was that groups were not able to give out a confidence measurement as in a total that nine group might have performed this observation by using their particular way, which means the data collection might be uncertain due to the groups perform the experiment differently. On top of it, it is important that whether the performed group used a ground as a reference point for recording the height of stem from the plant, which would lead to the failed of the hypothesis and draw an incorrect result at the end of this observation. • 6. Merce Cunningham s Influence On Contemporary Dance In my opinion, Merce Cunningham is the most influential person in the history of contemporary dance. Cunningham was both a dancer and in the early 1940s began to choreograph. A former dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Cunningham went on to found the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, where many of the dancers went on to become prestigious choreographers as well. In his works, the choreography, music and design all work separately yet together. Through his belief that anything can follow anything (Au 155), use of space and music, exploration of chance, is what makes Merce Cunningham the most influential person in the history of dance. As written in Ballet and Modern Dance, The choreographer played the role of the painter, selecting what the viewer saw and directing his focus to different performers or areas of the stage (155). This statement describes Merce Cunningham s approach to choreography and space perfectly. In Cunningham s works, there is no front and center spot. The front and center spot takes place all over the stage and the performance can be viewed from any angle. Also, Independence was central in Cunningham s works. • 7. Why Forecasting Models Have Been Developed Any organisation needs to have an idea of how the market and customer s needs may change in the future. That s why forecasting models have been developed; they offer the management a chance to set up a plan to cope with changes that the organization may come across. In this context, the ISO organization conducts a survey every year on different countries to make a census of the number of ISO registrations. What are the causes for these numbers? How will the ISO 9001 registration numbers evolve? In the following, we re going to focus on the ISO 9001 registrations in the world all over and different regions based on the data provided in the survey conducted by ISO, and apply forecasting techniques that we ve seen during the course in ... It provides the requirements for the implementation of a quality management system for organizations wishing to continuously improve their customer satisfaction and provide compliant products and services. It is a generic and process focused set of standards, meaning it can be applied to any organization operating in any sector or industry; it targets the processes within the organization rather than the resulting product/output. ISO 9001 has gained its popularity amongst organisations due to many reasons. The certificate is a proof of the organisation s aptitude to provide a good/product that respects international standards for quality. Moreover, the organisation gains a credibility that is extremely beneficial when dealing with customers and suppliers. The ISO 9001 provides a set of standards and guidelines for the staff to respect and act upon. Also, the certificate prioritizes the customer s satisfaction, allowing the organisation to gain their loyalty. Overview of ISO 9001 registrations in the world all over, Africa, Europe, Russia and Morocco In this part, the graphs for Russia and Morocco, and Africa and Europe have been separated to give a better visualisation of the evolution of the registrations. • 8. Legally Speaking Can Online Piracy Be Stopped By Laws With how vast and expansive the internet is today, online censorship is a huge debate that will always be ongoing. There are mainly two sides of this debate. One side says that online censorship is needed no matter what, and the other side says that the internet is free and that the internet can never be controlled by the on company or even the government. While both sides have a great point, there is still a side to take. The internet in today s day and age is a huge part of everyday life. Some people use it to make business calls, or have their own website for their store, and even send important information to others all around the globe. However, there are also websites such as piracy sites that allow users to download copyrighted material ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How can this be? Well, from a business standpoint there may be some money loss, however, there are other ways that this can also produce a significant amount of income. When someone pirates an album, for example, if they listen to it and then like it, they are going to get more of the artist s work or more of their albums. When this happens, they might tell all of their friends to check them out and then they will want to go pirate, or even buy, an album that that band made. Most artists usually have concerts that require payment to get in. When this group of friends go to a concert that the band is having within the area, they are supporting this newly found band. Artists make most of their money from the concerts and shows that they do, not the albums that they sell on iTunes or in the stores. Delve into a deeper level and you find, as Lona Mosk Packer puts [an] emotional experience universally valid, (375). Christina Rossetti s poem Goblin Market has three main themes that critics argue: the importance of sisterhood, the sexual implications and the dangers of erotic love and a Christ like sacrifice. These themes appear through the language used, the allusions and comparisons made throughout. In this poem, there are a lot of implications of Christ and how Lizzie is the embodiment of Christ, even though she is a woman. In the poem, Lizzie is seen as the redeemer of Laura; ... • 12. How Does Shakespeare Make Macbeth A Tragic Play Shakespeare manage to make records of the play Macbeth about two hundred years ago with a solid tipped feather pen. Yet, his work has been remarkably blasted out of the magnitude of classic drama. Was it a Tragedy or not? The only one who can truly answer this question is Shakespeare himself. There are many scenes that take place in the play of Macbeth, which verifies that this is a tragic play. There are a plethora amounts of murders of a large number of innocent people. one of the murders are of King Duncan, who is killed by Macbeth. The second one is the murder of Banquo, which Macbeth tricked. The third one is the murder of Macduff s wife and son, which Macbeth also tricked. These senseless killings are what make Macbeth a tragic play. The first murder was King Duncan. Duncan was a man of respect. Everyone in Scotland respected him. He was an amazing leader and father to his children and Macbeth. Duncan had no enemies in his kingdom. One of the reasons that Macbeth killed King Duncan was because he was impatient and selfish and wanted to be above everyone in the kingdom. For the purposes of this particular use case, it is unlikely the system will need to encapsulate any further knowledge about the actor. The collaboration diagram for the above use case. Collaboration is between individual object instances, not between classes. This is shown in the diagram by the convention of writing a colon before the class name, which indicates that this is an anonymous instance of the class, rather than the class itself. Messages between classes are shown by arrows, and their sequence is indicated by the number alongside. In this example, these are not yet labeled, although some those that can be most easily related to the use case description will probably soon be given names that correspond to responsibilities of the class to which the message is ... • 14. Animal Imagery In Fairy Tales Historiographical Essay Over time, historians have interpreted the use of animal imagery in western folk and fairy tales as a means for providing entertainment and moral lessons to western society. However, many historians have different ideas about how animal imagery and stereotypes actually affect a society besides keeping away from wolves and bears and such. Dr. Jack Zipes, a professor of German and comparative literature, promotes in his paper, What Makes a Repulsive Frog So Appealing: Memetics and Fairy Tales, that the story of The Frog Prince is actually a story about the strategies of mating and how the frog symbolizes its appearance of an unsuitable mate to a suitable one. In addition to how specific animal stereotypes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whatever the minor variations, Zipes argues that there are elements that are the same throughout that become the metaphors that strengthen his mating strategy theory. Starting at the beginning, the princess is young and has reached puberty, most likely with her golden ball symbolizing her virginity and purity. She brings out the ball to play with as a means of showing her availability and losing the ball in the water is representing how she is testing out the waters for suitable mates. However, an unsuitable mate, the frog, shows up and she rejects him. This rejection, Zipes argues, reflects the rejection by women who were forced into arranged marriages by their fathers either based on appearance, age, or wealth. However, the princess s father says she must do what the frog says, which is to sleep in her bed, which further symbolizes the struggles of an arranged marriage. However, in the 1857 version of the tale, the princess throws the frog against the wall to show her sexual independence, because she knows that she must bear an heir and that he will be an unsuitable mate that will neither make her children healthy and strong of give them financial security. Through this display of sexual independence, and the frog transforms into a handsome prince, becoming a more suitable mate for the princess . We all start off negotiating as little kids, even for little things such as candy and toys. When we grow up, negotiating becomes sort of the norm. We negotiate consciously and subconsciously every single day. When you think about it, negotiation takes up most of our lives. We are always trying to see what we can get as a benefit without giving up much. It always comes down to the pie, how big is the pie and who can get the biggest slice. As we become adults with careers, there are ever some that become flat our Negotiators . This means that all they do for a living is negotiate. They are master negotiators and are praised for being so. When it comes to negotiation, persuasion is also within that talent. You have to be able to get what you want from people without them feeling like they are being taken advantage of and that they are also getting just as big a piece of the pie as you are getting, although in reality they are not. According to yoga instructor Lynne Boucher and Julie Tette, people oftentimes take part in yoga as a means to become calm, peaceful, and centered through physical movement. The yoga service that I attended was offered for Dance Team members as team bonding day right before our competition. For yoga, I think the ritual and emotional dimension is most important for the interviewees. The emotional dimension is strongly present since yoga is primarily about self reflection of one s own emotions such as love, stress, or fear. During yoga, Mrs. Boucher guided our thoughts us by asking us to reflect about what our biggest fears are for the upcoming competition. Mrs. Boucher also guided our session by telling us think about the stresses that occur within the dance team; then as we acknowledged our stresses, she told us to breathe out and let go of worries, pressures, and anxieties. Analysis of Bruce Springsteen s Song Devils Dust Essay Analysis of Bruce Springsteen s Song Devils Dust In times of war it is quite common for people to start questioning their values and their actions and be unsure of the path they are taking. This is common because to protect our values we often are told that we have to take actions that conflict with those values. One example would be how to protect our liberties we must sometimes restrain those liberties during treacherous times. However, the ultimate question is whether or not going against the very values we stand for is a hypocritical and wrongful action plan. Eyes are often used in poetry and in popular culture as a path to see what somebody really feels and how that person is really like in the inside. The visual image of devils and dust illustrates a godforsaken place, which is what that person s soul has become. Following that the speaker tells his friend, Bobby, how they are a long, long way from home . These verses can have two meanings: they can refer to a soldier in a war (thus the relation with the Iraq War) or they could mean that we have strayed so far away from our values, from what we were founded upon, that this is no longer home, it is now a strange place. Many people argue, and with some justification, that the United States in the past years is becoming less and less like the country it was founded to be. The verse, I feel a dirty wind blowing once more takes us to the Iraq War since it evokes the image of a desert. These people are being killed just because they want to be themselves and people are discriminating against them simply because of their appearance and gender. Also, people say that women can t do certain things that men can do and people of color are more likely to be shot at by police because of the color of their skin. The idea that many times, certain groups in society are discriminated against due to their race, gender, and appearance is a theme that is expressed in the early American texts, On Being Brought From Africa to America by Phillis Wheatley, The Story of An Hour by Kate Chopin, and The Crucible by Arthur Miller. First, in the poem On Being Brought From Africa to America by Phillis Wheatley, a little girl is taken from her family in Africa and brought to America. She was taken because of the color of her skin so Americans were discriminating against her due to her race. In the poem on line 5 and 6, Wheatley writes that many Americans viewed her sable race with a scornful eye. This quotation shows how openly racist and prejudiced many whites were towards black slaves. Not only did whites viewed slaves as inferior, but they even believed that the black race was diabolical. The term diabolical suggests a sense of evil. Secondly, the story The Story of An Hour by Kate Chopin focuses on secret, repressed desires of women for individuality ...
