Research Paper On Blindness
I.Blindness is a disorder of the eyes and the visual centers of the brain, resulting in poor to no
vision. This disability affects an estimated 10 million people in the US alone. Although many
people believe the blind see nothing but darkness, most of the blind population report seeing light
and movement but no shape or color. This is what they are able to see with their eyes, however
many are also able to with their mind s eye. Utilizing other senses and technology such as cortical
implants, the blind population is able to create images in their mind s eye .

3.An account from a blind person that uses echolocation is that he is easily able to picture the item
in the room he is in except they have no color.
C.Using their sense of touch, the blind is able to create a mental image of what they think an object
looks like.

Analysis Of The Article Reinventing The Veil
The role of the veil in Persepolis
One of the most controversial topics concerning Muslim women s rights is the idea of the veil.
It is believed by some Muslims that the veil is an Islamic obligation that all Muslim women
must adhere to. But nowadays, the veil can have different meanings that are not necessarily
religious. In her article Reinventing the Veil, Leila Ahmed addresses some of the different
meanings that the veil can have. Marjane Satrapi explores one of those meanings in her
animated autobiography Persepolis (2008). In Persepolis, Marjane tells the story of her rebellion
against the Iranian Islamist regime that takes over Iran, oppresses women, and forces them to
wear the veil. What was interesting to me was seeing Marjane wear the veil without being
oppressed, although she does not believe in it, and is being forced to wear it. In Persepolis,
Marjane Satrapi escapes being a subject to the Iranian Islamist ideology by establishing her
individual identity through transforming the veil from a means of oppression into a means of
feminist rebellion.
In an interview conducted by MovieWeb, Marjane notes that the film isn t political, historical or
sociological. The film simply holds a humanistic message that says that human beings anywhere is
the same, and they have the right to live (Satrapi.) This humanistic message is what we see
Marjane fighting for in the film. She is striving to live a normal life, and one of the things that help
her do that is the veil. She

Charles Bailey And Martha Nussbaum
This essay is conceived with the purpose of demonstrating personal understanding of liberal
education as a result of assessing historic theory of Aristotle and comparing the contemporary
theories of Charles Bailey and Martha Nussbaum. In addition, the applicable situations of liberal
education and its governing principles will be discussed. Specifically, given the inevitable
engagement of compulsory education, which is inherently authoritarian, some aspects of liberal
education are limited, and full personal autonomycannot be actualized. In this situation, liberal
education would be less effective and less suitable due to the loss of freedom to some degree.
However, the importance of liberal education is vital in breaking old cultural and religious world
views to produce open minded students who are capable of critical thinking. In addition, more
benefits of liberal education will be shown in my later analysis by comparing it to education that is
straightly vocational.
The word liberal originates from the Latin liberalis , meaning free men who have been taken out
of servitude. A liberal society can be considered one composed of autonomous people who are
capable of making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This capacity is achieved in relation to the pluralistic feature of liberal education. Similar to
Charles Bailey s opinion, she also stresses that minds should be liberated from the constraints of
old habits and customs. But the difference is her theory applies to a larger and international scale.
It gives liberal education a more significant meaning as cultivating humanity for world citizenship. I
believe demonstrating the cosmopolitan concept of liberal education is relatively important,
especially in today s global and diverse

Jung Typology Personality Analysis
The results of my DISC Assessment test were extremely interesting, and in my opinion, quite
accurate as well. My results showed that I am very decisive and interactive, then I am moderately
stable, but not very cautious, systematic, or much of a perfectionist. These results also tied in
fairly closely with my Jung Typology personality test results, which I will explain throughout the
latter portion of my paper. My DISC results also ranked my seven dimensions of value and
motivation. Not surprisingly for me, altruistic was my highest value, sitting at 93 out of 100. This
is because I have a very high sincerity and genuine interest in helping others. As well as I am a

These results were interesting to me because it indicated that I have a moderate preference of
extraversion over introversion; a moderate preference of sensing over intuition; and a moderate
preference of feeling over thinking. Each one of these characteristics were favorable by 38%. I
found this to be odd that all three of these traits were at a preference of exactly 38%. However, for
my last letter, my results indicated that I have marginal or no preference of judging over
perceiving. Judging was only favored by 3%, and therefore, that is why the ESFP personality type
can also be a fit for me. By simply looking at the four words indicated by the letters of my results, I
believe that each one is pretty accurate. However, I definitely would have predicted more than a
moderate preference of extraversion over introversion. I probably would have guess that
extraversion would be favored by 70 80%, not by only 38%. I was also quite surprised that judging
was only favored by 3% over

The Restoration Under Charles II Essay
The Restoration Under Charles II Generally, the English people had a great celebration when
Charles II returned to the throne in May of 1660.1 Many believed that restoring the monarchy was
the only way to secure constitutional rights. In fact, there was an expectation that bringing back
the king would return life to the way it was before 1642 and the rule of Cromwell. Charles II was
responsible for improving the government for the people. However, despite some achievements, the
king was not very successful in creating a stronger and more effective monarchy. He was dependent
on his advisors and other parts of the government from the very beginning of his reign. There were
constant conflicts between the king and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This council consisted of English men who held public office or owned extensive amounts of
land. Smaller committees within the council made all the major decisions.3 The king looked to
the Privy Council for help in solving the country s problems. Clarendon s main objective for the
council was to lessen the power of Parliament. Since the king relied a large deal on the council
for making decisions, Parliament did not meet as often.4 Clarendon also knew that the militia
was a major part of government, but he wanted to keep the army small. He knew that a large
army would make the people nervous about an absolutist monarchy. A small militia kept the
country safe from a possible foreign attack.5 There was one main issue that Clarendon and
Charles disagreed on very strongly: religious tolerance. Clarendon believed in using coercive
acts to eliminate dissenters. However, Charles did not want to persecute people with different
religious beliefs if they were not causing problems for England. In April of 1660, he put these
ideas into effect with the Breda Declaration. This declaration was the first of many signs that
Charles was impartial to Catholics. Parliament, however, sided with Clarendon on this conflict. In
1661, Parliament passed the Act of Uniformity. The act ended all tolerance for Presbyterianism
and forced all of its followers to agree to everything in the Anglicans Book of Common Prayer.
Parliament also refused to accept the king s

Consumer s Influence On Consumer Behavior
In today s culture, consumers are very much in charge of their decisions in regards to purchasing.
Advancements in technology have not only allowed consumers the capability to research, price
shop and purchase products, but have also given businesses the ability to reach a targeted market
based on data collection and past purchase history. Given that consumers have the purchase power
in today s society, many businesses have implemented situational factors to influence a consumers
buying behavior. Consumers typically have a level of purchase involvement when making
purchasing decisions. Levels of involvement range from low to high. Level of involvement is often

Advertising for brand familiarity is done best through television campaigns and brand familiarity is
often gained through repetition of the advertisement. Marketers also focus on visual images that
associate a consumer with a particular product as these are easily remembered. Examples of this
type of branding include the McDonalds Golden Arches or the Target bulls eye (Procter, 2000, p.
144 169).High levels of purchase involvement are related to those products that typically have a
higher cost, are bought infrequently and are reflective of the purchaser. In order to gain traction in
this category, marketers often promote the positive and beneficial attributes of the brand, promote
the product through advertising and have a heavy reliance on sale personnel endorsement.
Examples of purchase that have a high level purchase involvement include technology products and
cars (Chavis, 2010, Involvement Level and Effect). Situational factors are also used to sway
consumers buying behaviors. Examples of situational factors include lighting, smell and sound.
Marketers must be cognizant of not over stimulating the senses when using situational factors to
influence buying behavior. Over stimulation will result in fewer purchases, an obvious negative
response for businesses. Lighting and product placement is often used within stores to enhance
products or attract customers. Window displays using bright vertical

Nursing Reflection Essay
Reflection on a clinical Skill
This essay will discuss a clinical skill in which I have become competent in practicing as a
student nurse. I will use a reflective model to discuss how I have achieved the necessary level of
competence in my nurse training programme. The reflective model I have chosen to use is Gibbs
model (Gibbs 1988). Gibbs model of reflection incorporates the following: description, feelings,
evaluation, analysis, conclusion and an action plan (Gibbs 1988). The model will be applied to the
essay to facilitate critical thought, relating theory to practice where the model allows. Discussion
will include the knowledge underpinning practice and the evidence base for the clinical skill. A

My mentor said that this was acceptable and I continued to administer the injection, omitting the
use of the alcohol wipe. On the previous occasions when I had administered IM injections I had not
cleansed the site and had never been instructed to adopt this practice.
I am now going to enter into the second stage of Gibbs (1988) model of reflection, which is a
discussion about my thoughts and feelings. I was aware of being under the supervision of two
qualified nurses and this made me feel very nervous and self conscious. Once my mentor
questioned my practice, concerning skin cleansing, I became even more aware of feeling
nervous and under pressure. The patient was present and I did not want the patient to feel that I
did not know what I was doing. I thought that as I had been observed carrying out this clinical
procedure on many other occasions then my practice must have been seen to be correct. I was
now feeling very confused about the use of alcohol wipes in the administration of IM injection. I
was also concerned that the practice of the qualified nurses was so inconsistent, which led me to
evaluate the whole process.
Evaluation is the third stage of Gibbs (1988) model of reflection and requires the reflector to with
state what was good and bad about the event. I was aware that research by Workman (1999)
suggests that the use of skin cleansing wipes is inconsistent and not necessary in IM injections if
the patient appears to be physically clean

Analysis Of German Expressionism In The Cabinet Of Dr....
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Response Paper #5 The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a German
Expressionist film that was released in 1920. The film was directed by Robert Wiene.
Expressionism is defined as a visible world that is reshaped and even, distorted by internal forces
such as soul, spirit, subjectivity, and emotion. A major component of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
is it contains various examples of mise en scГЁne, which is associated with visual aspects such as
props in the background or clothing and the makeup the actor is wearing. Moreover, boxes within

Meanwhile, the policeman and Francis are peeping through a box shaped peephole in at the
prisoner. This scene is an example of boxes within boxes because the prisoner is enclosed in a
cell and is being viewed from the exterior of the cell through a peephole. The prisoner is enclosed
in the cell, while the cell is enclosed in the police station. Mise en scГЁne is also present in this
scene, with the number five that is on the wall outside of the cell. It is not a coincidence that it
is act five of the film. Additionally, the walls near the jail cell are distorted. The wall angles look
similar to the shape of the peepholes as well. The boxes within boxes in this scene expresses
Francis paranoia and distorted reality. Francis was worried the prisoner had escaped and
attempted to murder Jane, but this was all inside his distorted reality. Francis distorted reality
may also be symbolized in the distorted walls as well. Lastly, Francis mind contains an example
of boxes within boxes because in his mind he sees Dr. Caligari as the mentally unstable one, but
in reality, it is him who is unstable. Furthermore, Francis mind is a box that is enclosed in
delirium, which is enclosed in another box, which is the actual reality. Mise en scГЁne can be
seen when both Dr. Caligari and Francis are both confined to a straitjacket and placed in a cell at
different times in the film. Another example of mise en scГЁne is the movements Dr. Caligari

Cruelty And Violence In Grimm s Fairy Tales
Tales were a dominant part of everyone s life for countless years. The most famous tales today
come from Disney, but they were not quite created by them. A considerable amount of these stories
originate from the Grimm brothers, these particular stories are surrounded with violence, cruelty
and monsters. The creation of these types of tales are to scare children. Just as important is the
narration of scary stories and other stories.
A large majority of stories are used to scare children. There was a tremendous amount of violence,
abuse and cruelty in the Grimm brothers fairy tales, In many folk tales and oral traditions, these
predators are imaginary creatures such as trolls, ogres and giants who are used to to keep children
away from dangerous situations (Davis Boidinot, Violence ans Fear in Folktales) .These stories
scared children to teach a lesson on different topics relevant to the situation. These lessons can

considered a gift if someone had the ability to tell a story. The narrator needed to do several

Character In Matthew Riley s Scarecrow
Character is readable because of its virtual identity, which in effect promotes an imaginative
gestalt for the figure (Cohan, 1983). The major difference between a film and a novel is the
increased subjectivity of what a character looks like, how they sound and the area they are
surrounded in purely because it is up to the reader to imagine these things. This essay will analyse
Matthew Riley s international best selling novelScarecrow, and how he introduces characterfirst
through describing the surrounding areas and how he gives certain personality implications of the
character through these descriptions. Then the subsequent physical introduction of the main
character will be analysed, and how that ties back to the personality... Show more content on

Schofield is incredibly courageous, and as a result, Riley has described the surroundings to open
the novel with perfection. Schofield, the main character, is subsequently introduced to the reader,
and the first thing we find out about him is that he has become a target in the greatest bounty
hunt in history. Before the reader can even begin to imagine what Schofield looks like, Riley has
already given the impression that he is a tough man with seemingly a lot of enemies, which would
further suggest that he has lived through an action packed life. This is all before even knowing
what colour hair the man has, or if he is big or small in stature, which is a credit to how Riley has
introduced the character to the reader without even introducing him at all.
Riley then begins to describe Schofield, first of all further expressing the personality of the
character with his sunglasses. He writes, The grey Siberian sky was reflected in the silver lenses
of his wraparound anti flesh glasses. The glasses concealed a pair of vertical scars that cut down
across Schofield s eyes, wounds from a previous mission and the source of his operational
nickname: Scarecrow, (Riley, 2003). While Riley is now describing the physical aspects of the
main character, he continues to imply who the character is as well as what the character looks like.
The reflective silver sunglasses further suggest the courageous, heroic traits of the character as has
already

Axeon Case Study Essay
In my point of view, the problem from this case is whether Axeon NV pursue constructing the new

Netherland. This problem arises from the the proposal from UK Subsidiary (Hollandsworth) that
become a matter of controversy as its projected profitability is questioned by managementat Axeon
s headquarter. I analyze that there are three issues from this case: (1). Decentralization, since Axeon
allows its subsidiaries manager considerable autonomy regarding what products to sell in their
territories, however, in this case, Hollandsworth s proposal seems to be rejected by Axeon, (2).

Some calculation that I analyze are: (1) the proposal plant depreciation that is too fast (annual
depreciation should be 52,000 instead of 280,000); (2) the calculation of Net Present Value of
future cash flow use 8% loan interest instead of the company s required rate of return 12%.
Moreover, I think there are benefits and drawbacks whether building the new plant in the UK or
maximize the capacity of Dutch s plant in producing additional product. Building new plant in the
UK is a way to finance and support of the UK board members, it will open new jobs and a greater
image of the company in England and this product will be still profitable after 7 years. On the other
hand, manufacturing the product in Netherland would be more profitable and less investment since
Axeon does not need to take a bank loan, a longer production runs, a lower set up costs and a larger
raw material, also market penetration still possible in the Netherland. However, there is a
possibility that Hollandsworth s manager enthusiasm and initiative are bound to suffer since Ian
(the manager) felt that he has less autonomy than before. Additionally, Hollandsworth might think
that Axeon want to monopoly the AR 42

Analysis Of The Novel Franny And Zooey By J.d. Salinger
Human life is a blend of myriad of emotions. Our emotions add facets to our humanity they give us
dimensions and make us the social, emotional and intellectual beings we are. People go through
both good and rough times. While some persevere through these times, some crack and acquire
fissures. In the novella Franny and Zooeyby J.D. Salinger, Franny Glass is undergoing a similar
identity and existential crisis which severely derails her life. Disenchanted by the superficiality
of the world surrounding her, Franny embarks on a process of purgation, distancing herself from
the world along the way. Franny s folly in assuming that the change she is looking for can only
be achieved by detaching herself from her life, the things that matter the most to her, starting
anew, shows her dogmatic approach to self purification. In seeking union with reality which is
what the mystical experience is, she leaves the reality of her life behind herself, resulting in her
ending up stranded in a perilous path of self questioning. Franny Glass is on a journey of self
discovery. Driven by the notion that everything and everyone she knows is selfish and phony,
Franny tries to imitate a life of seclusion and monastic living. She is influenced by her brother
Seymour s way of life, his philosophies and the book The Way of A Pilgrim she finds on his desk.
The book recounts the story of a Russian monk who goes around ceaselessly saying the name of

Characteristics Of The False Prophet
ix is the number of man, therefore, we have named this chapter, the six signs of the false prophet.
There are more, of course, but we have chosen major and consistent characteristic that follow false
prophets. We must interject that many prophets are not false, but fleshly. They lack maturity,
discipline, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and a strong knowledge of the written word of God. Many
have not died to their flesh. Others sadly lack in humility and have allowed their gifts to exclude
them from accountability.
Furthermore, we must understand that we are all false at some time or another. No one is infallible
except the Lord. The false prophet is one who has escape divine discipline and fallen headlong into
the ditch of deception. Here is the Lord s warning concerning the emergence of the false
prophets as His return approaches. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders;
insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect (Matthew 24:11, 24). Let us
make this point clear. If you are a true prophet of the Lord, you certainly will be called false at
some point in your ministry. The servant is no greater than his master is. If they called our Lord
false, a man perfect in every respect, then assuredly, you will be called the same.
Consequently, every prophet must make your calling and election sure, that is you must know who
you are in God,

Wystan Hugh Auden Research Paper
The English American poet, Wystan Hugh Auden, better known as W. H. Auden, was known for
his ability to craft poems in different styles centering his work on different moral, social, and

century due to his ability to use ancient moral issues, and relate them to current events of the time.
Even though Auden had a talent for using his personal experiences to create poetryof love and
suffering, some of his most powerful poems are written upon the immortality of war. Focusing on
totalitarian dictators, Auden created two of his most moving poems, September 1, 1939 and The
Shield of Achilles . Auden uses his poetry to express the ways bureaucratic dictatorship is used to
control citizens, leading dictators to unleash war upon the world. Due to his knowledge of the
potential destructive tendencies of dictators, Auden uses his poetry to convey the message that the
power of enduring human spirit has the ability to counteract the harmful effects of dictatorship if
civilians suppress the power of the tyrant. Wystan Hugh Auden was born on February 21, 1907, in

Pericles Vs Alcibiades
The Traditional Period of Greece, 500 338 BCE, cleared a path to a wide range of changes in
Athenian history. The Athenian government transformed from an oppression to a vote based
system, and after the Persian war in 499 BCE, Athens begun to turned into a military superpower,

influence developed, making Athens economy rise turning into the wealthiest city states. The

One of the major, and self evident, similitudes between the two Athenians is that they originate

My Experience Of Writing
As a child, writing was foreign to me. I spent most of my time playing in the grand outdoors with
my sister, or practicing flute or piano indoors. I knew from an early child I wanted to play
music, so I had no time for writing, and no interest in doing it. The only time I ever wrote was
when required for the annual school celebration of author s day. Unlike Orwell, I did not want to
be a writeras a kid; in fact, I wanted nothing to do with it. I, as well, am the middle child of three;
but, I grew up with the constant companionship of my sister. With my sister always by my side, I
had no need to write down what I thought or felt. Soon, my sister was off to middle school, and I
left an empty spot that I began to fill with writing. Eventually, I decided I didn t just want my
stories shared with my sister; I wanted more people to read them. In early adolescence I began
experimenting with short stories; however, containing too many metaphors, similes, and
personification to follow, they always lacked a plot. Naively, I flaunted these stories about, and
read them to all who would listen. My stories of fairies and dragons were perfect to me, but soon
I had annoyed all my family and friends with these ridiculous stories. Not until I received a failing

then went from having too much imagery to having none at all. My stories became dull and simple,

The Song Cherry Wine By Indie Rock Artist
In the song Cherry Wine , written and performed by indie rock artist Hozier, it becomes apparent
early on that this is not what one might consider a typical love song; nor is it about a typical
woman. Although the acoustic guitar and softer melody paint a peaceful picture, the lyrics express
that there is something much deeper that lies beneath its surface. From beginning to end, every
verse about this woman and his relationship with her is a contradiction, which immediately sets the
tone for the way he feels being with her: it s a battle. While most lovesongs are written in hopes of
appealing to a wide audience, Hozier simply writes about the faults he has found in his own
relationship and how, regardless, he can t seem to walk away. Although Hozier continuously
professes his love for this woman throughout this song, there are still darker lyrics and elements
that should be acknowledged as well. The second verse begins with this line: Calls of guilty fall
on me/ All while she stains the sheets of some other. It s very clear in this lyric that this woman
has continuously accused him of being unfaithful to her all while it is implied that she is the one
who has been unfaithful. It is not just coincidence that, a few lines before, Hozier says It looks
ugly, but it s clean. Oh mama, don t fuss over me, which suggests that his friends and family are
concerned about this relationship but he insists that it isn t as bad as it looks. It s interesting how

Cyberbullying is the use of Information Technology to harm or harass other people in a deliberate,
repeated, and hostile manner. According to U.S. Legal Definitions, Cyber bullying could be limited
to posting rumors or gossips about a person in the internet bringing about hatred in other s minds; or
it may go to the extent of personally identifying victims and publishing materials severely defaming
and humiliating them. With the increase in use of these technologies, cyberbullying has become
increasingly common, especially among teenagers. Awareness has also risen, due in part to high
profile cases like the Suicide of Tyler Clementi. Definition Legal definition Cyberbullying is defined
in legal glossaries as actions that use information and communication technologies to support

Are Pork Pigs Good Or Bad
Pork chops might look good on your dinner plate, but do you really know what you are eating?
Pigs are where we get pork chops. There are many things that happen to these pigs for us to have
something as simple as pork chops. Some things are just cruel, and some are just unbelievable, but
it s true. Of course there are the benefits and the risks, but which one weighs more? This is what
you decide.
To start off with, pigs need fifty square feet to live a healthy lifestyle, but in most pig farms in the
US, pigs only receive about only twenty square feet if they are in good conditions. Most mother
pigs spend majority of their lives crammed into metal cages. After mother pigs give birth, then
they are moved into cages only big enough to nurse their young, but too small for them to turn
over. Once the piglets are about one month old, they are torn from their mothers and crammed in
a room filled with other piglets. Male piglets get their testicles cut out when they are only ten
days old. Pigs live in harsh crammed conditions. They are forced to live in their own feces and
vomit. Genetically manipulated by enzymes, pigs grow faster than normal. Pigs are fed grains and
seed oil to hire their omega six level which also causes them to also grow at dangerously high
levels. Americans eat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the pigs live in harsh conditions, and the food production affects the environment greatly creating
many issues. There is also the risk of cancer, heart disease, and bacterial infection through
overconsumption. Some good things about the consumption of this type of food are that we obtain
many different macromolecules like carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins. Pork chops may have its
benefits, but it also comes with risks. Hopefully, in the future, there will be better solutions to these
problems we face today like overconsumption and environmental

In addition, the mentoring program will be providing stakeholders the skills and confidence to
make changes towards social justice for URM college students. Accordingly, the evaluation
approach that is most appropriate to use for this evaluation is the participant oriented,
transformative participatory evaluation approach (T PE) (Cousins Whitmore, 1998 Fitzpatrick,
Sanders, Worthen, 2011). Research design. Data will be collected via surveys twice over the period
of one academic year and the evaluation questions aim to determine the role of the mentoring
program in providing support to its participants. Therefore, descriptive, time series design is the
most appropriate evaluation design for this program evaluation. A key element of descriptive, time
series design is determining a trend or change over time, which includes collecting information on
participant status and attitude (Fitzpatrick, et al., 2011 SDSU, 2014). Participants Program leaders

Man Vs. Society In The Saga Of The Sioux
The average life expectancy on the Reservation is 47 years for men and 52 years for women. In
the novel, the Saga of the Sioux, the author talks about their point of view, different conflicts, and
the theme. Every day the Sioux are treated badly by the government and it isn t right. In this book,
it talks about all the times they were betrayed, lied to, and cheated.
In the novel, there are two big conflicts that the Sioux face. Those two conflicts are Man vs.
Nature and Man vs. Society. But four years later after the treaty had been signed, white miners
were violating the treaty, searching the rocky passes and clear streams of Paha Sapa for the
yellow metal that drove white men crazy. This is a great example of Man vs. Nature because once

Persuasive Essay On The Lottery
If you live in the United States of America then you know exactly what the Powerball is.
Essentially, it is an American lottery game offered around forty four states in the United States of
America. Every day millions of people are competing to buy lottery tickets from anywhere that they
can find them. This includes gas stations, grocery stores, and even in malls. The sad thing about this
lotterygame is that most of the income from the lottery ticket goes straight back to the state where
you bought your ticket from. When a Powerballticket is bought, around fifty to sixty five percent
of the two dollars goes to the prize money. While less than a dime, goes to running the lottery and
twelve to fourteen cents also goes to the store that sold the ticket.
The state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of Powerball
money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using the money on
things we already have, low income people are usually the ones that are buying these lottery tickets,
and it would benefit the low income part of the community by the amount of support that could be
given to schools.
Initially, the state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of the
Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using that
money on things that we already have. They are using this money for local transportation, teacher
retirement funds, and sports

Ptsd In Slaughterhouse Five
Distinguished American author and intellectual Kurt Vonnegut stated the following about
glorification of war: Perhaps, when we remember wars, we should take off our clothes and paint
ourselves blue and go on all fours all day long and grunt like pigs. That would surely be more
appropriate than noble oratory and shows of flags and well oiled guns. (Cat s 147) World War II
is one of the most significant memories of the twentieth century. It has impacted the collective

In the absence of peace, there is conflict. This might lead to war between countries if conflict is not
handled carefully. Today it is almost a norm to see countries engaging others in war. Today the
greatest problem facing many nations is international relation. Countries have failed to live like
decent neighbors. There is disunity among many nations. War between nations is caused by
mistrust and tension. Nations purchase arms to stock their armory. Major inventions are made daily

countries are always in mistrust of each other. It also explains that there is constant tension between

As times progressed there was an uprising in Lebanon as the Palestinian opposed Israel rule, In
1978 Palestine attacked Hezbollah. Israel felt invaded and led an offensive attack o Lebanon.
Israel attacked Lebanon and went as far as capturing Beirut. The prime target was to bomb Yasser
Arafat locations. During this invasion, Israel declared southern Lebanon as a security zone.
During these attacks, there were deaths on both sides. The greatest casualties were the children.
Israel came to withdraw its security forces from southern Lebanon in May 2000. Another serious
crisis came to be in 1980s. This was the intifada. A group of young Palestinians confronted Israeli
troops with sling shots and stones. The outcome was not acceptable and many of the youth were
shot dead. To lay an offensive attack, the Palestinians used suicide bombers to kill the Israeli

In 1993 the Oslo peace accord was made. In this accord Israel accepted to recognize the

The Role Of Popular Music In The Infantilization Of Women
Music can help change lives, heal wounds, or unfortunately, create stigmas. We live in a world that
stigmatizes women on a daily basis, and the music industry plays no less of a significant role in
reinforcing some of those stigmas. One apparent stigma that the current music industry is
promoting is the infantilization of women. Infantilization is the act of treating an adult as a child,
and thus denying her or his maturity. Equating women with children, and treating them as if they
are weak and dependent is something we can clearly see in pop music. Whether it was through
presenting women in infantilized positions in music videos or using infantilizing terms in lyrics,
pop music plays a big role in shaping our inaccurate perception of women.... Show more content on

Then, I will present the results in graphs and tables and discuss them. I plan to split my
discussion into two parts parallel to the survey s parts. I predict that the participants would
describe the women in the infantilized song lyrics and music videos as childlike and dependent.
If my prediction was true, I would use the discussion parts to explain the powerfulness of music
in shaping the perception of women in our society. In my discussion, I will incorporate the
findings of Huot s and Carlson s research that go along with my predicted finding. I will also use
the examples of the infantilization of women in pop culture that are shown in The Codes of
Gender; a documentary film, written and directed by Sut Jhally, that focuses on the American s
pop culture role in shaping the stereotypical ideas about femininity and masculinity. Also in this
section, I will discuss other effects that resulted from the infantilization of women in music. I
will use Alanna Vagianos s Huffington post article Drake s Hotline Bling Just Got A Genius
Feminist Makeover, to help me provide an example. In this article, Vagianos presents the story
of a 27 year old woman named Javetta Laster who was affected by the infantilizing lyrics of the
hit song Hotline Bling, and decided to rewrite the lyrics in a more accurate way. One example of
Laster s rewritten lyrics shows how the original one was presenting an infantilized look of
women; the original lyric says: Why you never alone? Why you always touching road? Used to
stay at home, be a good girl. You was in the zone, yeah, while Laster s edited feminist version of
the same lyric says: You used to stay at home and be someone I saw fitting into the patriarchal
expectations of women to be infantilized good girls which is some bizarre father/daughter husband

Factors That Influence Shopping Mall Behaviors
Introduction
It has always been concerned by marketer that what are the factors that impact on shopping
behaviors. The purpose of this desk research is to investigate what are the factors affect shopping
time and analysis how they influence. This research focused on three main factors, gender, age and
income, that has obvious influence on how much time the customers spend in shopping mall.
Background
Many theories have been proposed to explain the factors that influence shopping mall behaviors.
Although it covers a wide variety of theories, such as situational, personal, social and cultural
factors, this research will focus on personal aspect. These themes includes how does consumers
gender and age perspectives impact on time they spend in shopping malls and the debate between
different thoughts on the influence of their income.

In this research, eight articles were reviewed in three different themes to examine the relationship
between customers gender, age or income and time they spend on shopping. All of these articles
were found online and most of them are professional marketing studies. On account of the
deductive and inductive reasoning theories, the results of this research could be more convinced.

American Pie Rhetorical Devices
Media has been a vital element to American entertainment since its commencement. This
entertainment comes in all varieties, whether it is film, commercials, music or general
consumer ads. Either way, they are all used to engage or encourage the reader or viewer to feel a
certain way. Music has always been a catalyst for human beings since the first caveman started
tapping his feet in a rhythmic pattern. Music can be used to express any feeling a person can
have about any subject they might think about. It can be used to describe the ideals of an era or
time frame; just look at music over the last one hundred plus years. No matter what, there is
usually always some sort of symbolism or deeper meaning that the songwriter is trying to get to
the listener. It s no debate that the music we listen to today is most definitely not the music the
generation our grandparents or even our parents listened to. The song American Pie by Don
McLean, which released in 1971, is one of the most analyzed songs in American pop culture
history (Shuck). Standing as a story all on its own, a simple analysis of the lyrics reveals allusions
and metaphors in abundance. Analyzing these allusions and metaphors exposes many rhetorical
devices used by McLean.

Note that the terms of corporate and industrial espionage are used interchangeably in my research.
One may wonder what the roots of competitive intelligence, intellectual espionage, and reverse
engineering are. On the surface, it may seem clear that there is a distinction between competitive
intelligence and corporate espionage. One is gained legally, as a means of retaining corporate
relevance, while the other is gained illegally and at in some cases in an indignant fashion [4].
According to David Blenkhorn, a professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, this topic is not
appropriately discussed in universities today. It is not clear or obvious how one should treat
corporate intelligence ethically, as cultural viewpoints skew the morality of the situation. It
certainly could be argued that this information gathering is a necessary and sufficient means to an
end. Dr. Blenkhorn notes that there is a generally accepted ethical view with respect to information
gathering in Europe and North America, but in other countries, this perspective is quite different.
To some degree this may be a normalization of deviance, where over time, such actions are simply
accepted as a means of holding a business or national security edge, and thus over time becomes
ingrained into the culture. Interestingly, according to Professor Blenkhorn, one of his students from
Russia was taught how to conduct industrial

several different challenges for Human Resource Management teams in organizations throughout

Both societies have a wide range of distribution of power between the lower and higher ranking
officials within an organization. The two countries are so close in the power distance ranking
that I do not believe that the HR policies in each would be significantly different. Japan scores
much higher that the United States in the Uncertainty Avoidance category. Japanese businesses
are in favor of predicting and controlling future events in order to avoid the uncertain
(Ivancevich, 2010). This is quite different from the U.S. which scores relatively low in the
category. U.S. organizations tend to take more risks and plan activities on a day to day basis.
When planning to hire employees in the U.S., HR would most likely look for candidates who
are more aggressive and self motivated. However, Japanese organizations might look for more
of an organized and conservative person to fill the role. Predictability is key since the Japanese
prefer to plan and organize situations so that there are no surprises. Masculinity is also very high
in Japan. Masculine societies tend to have men who hold assertive and competitive qualities
(Hofstede, 2011). This includes strict roles between males and females. Males in Japan are
expected to work and support the family, while women are responsible for taking care of the

People want to be surrounded by other people. Nobody wants to be worthless. These two factors
are what drive people to sacrifice themselves in order to belong. They sacrifice who they are

it is in their best interest to stay in that group. Not everyone likes each other though, so to avoid

world is perfect how it is not, just like how water teaches Siddhartha that the now is good and he
should live in the present not the past or the future. In Buddhism it also states that everything
come backs to you, just like the water telling Siddhartha that his past will always come back even
if he lives in the present, it will always come back to him. The water also teaches Siddhartha the
importance of how life is transitory, or not permanent. It teaches Siddhartha this because Siddhartha
goes through many journeys not just one, and is telling him that life will not stop after you finish
your journey but keep going, just as water does. In Buddhism it s the same thing because life keeps
going and you are always in a constant state of journeying to achieve parts of a whole,
enlightenment. The water is a symbol in Buddhist thinking because it teaches the exact things
Buddhism does. The water is a metaphor for the journey of the Buddha, or Siddhartha, learning
from multiple different ways of living, and trying to find one that would suit his

Stereotypes In Hailee Steinfeld s Most Girls
Can I be a girl without wearing the stereotypical girly clothes? Hailee Steinfeld s song Most Girls
talks about the two types of girls that exist. The first one is the girly girl that wear cute items:
skirts, dresses, heels, tight clothing, and piercings on the body. She is very pretty since she wears
make up, while the second on is a tomboythat dresses casual clothes, doesn t care what they wear,
and is most likely bisexual or lesbian. She defines these types by their wardrobe, actions, and how
they want to succeed in life through their own unique way. Society tells them that is how a girl
should portray herself. No matter how you act or dress, at the end of the day you are a girl and
no one can tell you otherwise. The artist is a female and her style can be girly and tomboyish
because that s who she is. When I first heard this song I felt like I was finally understood that I
am a girl without those stereotypes. This song helped me realize I should be comfortable with
myself and knowing not all girls, like myself, feel that they have to live up to the stereotypical
expectation of being a girly girland shouldn t define by any stereotypes, free to live by her own
expectation, not society. First time I heard this song on the radio I was filled with so much
enjoyment thinking it was my birthday and the attention was all on me. I thought back to when
I was a kid, I hated wearing skirts, dresses, Skorts (shorts attach under a skirt) and wearing cute
petite shoes. I was forced to wear these items, but mostly I wore T shirts, jeans, sweats, and
Chuck Taylor Converse in white, black, gray, black and white all the time. I felt wearing
sweatpants, looking like a princess was the person I felt comfortable as. My grandma hated
taking me shopping because I never wanted to go to the extremely girly section. I felt like I was
in a world of bubble gum with so much pink, unicorns, and all that girly stuff. I do not hate pink,
but I m not too fond of it. She tried to shape me into this cute little girl who loves dolls, pink, and
everything girly like my sister. I am not a little doll that she commands to wear and do whatever
she wants. I didn t know how to be the proper girl my grandma wanted me to be because I was

Scientific Management And The Mission Vision And Guiding...
Evidence Based/Scientific Management directly supports the mission vision and guiding principles
of some healthcare managers. As Evidence Based Managers, it is critical to understand that
everyone is not going to support Evidence Based management. However, it is an essential tool that
can be used to improve managers overall efficiency and effectiveness of any organization. The
major test and prospects for today s complicated healthcare delivery systems require that leaders
take charge of their operations. A strong operations focus can reduce costs, increase safety, improve
clinical and non clinical outcomes, and allow an organization to compete effectively with an
uncompromising market (McLaughlin Hays, 2008). Performance improvement projects should be
methodical and efficient. Without a well defined process, confusion is likely to ensue, and the
performance improvement panel might not achieve the required results (Spath, 2013).
The researcher will discuss the history of healthcare management and the case for and against
scientific/evidence based management. In addition, this paper will further to describe Great Britain
s healthcare policy and evidence based practice; performance improvement tools, and Six Sigma.
The benefits and disadvantages of Evidence Based Management will also be addressed.

The advancement of Healthcare Management as a profession has generally tracked the progression
of medical science and the expansion of hospitals in the United

Earthquakes Are A Powerful Force Of Nature
California Earthquakes
Stephanie Sanchez
Geology 112 spring 2015
Earthquakes are a powerful force of nature. When they strike, it reminds us of how vulnerable we
are to this unpredictable event. On Saturday April 25 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal
killing thousands of people and injuring even more. The number of dead will probably increase, as
thousands remain missing. When a tragedy as this one occurs, society unites in grieving the people
who were injured and those who perished. Everyone sees the devastating effects and the strength of
earthquakes and it incites questions throughout the world as people seek understanding of why this
happened? Moreover, they begin to worry of when this will happen again. California is a state
susceptible to massive earthquakes such as the one that hit Nepal. In California, we are aware the
big one might hit soon, and the best way to determine when, is to look at the history of our state.
History of Earthquakes in California
Growing up in Southern California, I remember practicing earthquake drills in elementary school.
Teachers instructed us to protect our head and quickly seek cover under our desks during the
drills. They told us that if a quake happened at home, finding a doorframe to stand under would be
the safest place for us. As children living in an earthquake zone, the conversations of earthquake
safety happened yearly, but because big and devastating earthquakes like the one in Nepal have not
occurred

The Nature of Thought in Joyce Essay
The Nature of Thought in Joyce
Thought is a problem in Joyce s work. His characters obscure trains of thought and remembrance
constantly challenge the reader to keep up. I will argue that the depths of this obscurity are not, in
fact, murky; they are a response to his introspection about the nature of thought, and reflect a
coherent theory. Joyce often repeats phrases, and he makes such repetitions noticeable in order to
direct the reader to the questions: What is thought? And what are the unconscious processes of the
mind? His characters are unpredictable, experiencing truly surprising emotional reactions. This
unexpectedness adds depth and verisimilitude to characterization; as in life, the strongest emotional
experiences are ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he makes the speech, the comparison between his aunts and the Three Graces pleases them
very much. He decides that, since his speech has been so successful, it would be safer not to risk
offense, and hastens to his close (139). The events of the story, and not so much Gabriel, are the
reason he chooses to leave the quotation out.
There is another factor that contributes to his willingness to drop the verses: he has already
accomplished his aim of working in Browning, by spontaneously borrowing from his own
review of the poet s recent work: But we are living in a skeptical and, if I may use the phrase, a
thought tormented age (138). His original words were One feels that one is listened to a thought
tormented music (130). Because the article is on Gabriel s mind (after his confrontation with Miss
Ivors), the phrase thought tormented is there for him to use. The fact that he does preface it with if
I may use the phrase suggests that he is aware of what he is doing.
However, Gabriel makes two other crucial word choices that are unconscious but telling. They
are apparent under a close reading, and even produce a vague feeling of familiarity under casual
reading. Gabriel s cousin Mary Jane says, as Gabriel and Gretta prepare to leave, I read this
morning in the newspapers that the snow is general all over Ireland (144). And in conversation at
dinner, Mary Jane describes

The Ethics Of An Organization
The subject of morals is covered inside the money related operations of different organizations. The
term moral alludes to the arrangement of good standards by which individuals behave by and by,
socially, or professionally. In the business aspect the term business morals alludes to the use of the
ethical compass to the vital and operational administration of the business (Velasquez and
Velazquez, 2002).
Official remuneration is an integral part of any business. The part of repaying the official arm of
any business is regularly done through: addition in pay rates, money rewards giving them a part of
the investment opportunities, severance bundles and numerous more advantages. This is frequently
done to guarantee that the organization holds the best ability in the market inside the organization.
Ability is restricted and the enterprise that has the best ability regularly has a higher possibility of
exceeding expectations.
Besides, the explanation behind paying them weighty pay is additionally secured to the
considerable man hypothesis. That the administrators do a ton to change the organizations
accordingly they require heavy remuneration for their exertion. A decent case is Steve Jobs when
he came to Mac he was remunerated gigantic measures of stock pay for his exertion in changing the
organization (Koehn, 2014).
The pay of the officials in many organizations is certainly exploitative. The explanation behind this
announcement is that the compensation gave to the

Executive Summary
The movie Industry came into being towards the end of the 19th century and it has grown steadily
over the years, incorporating several changes in its outfit and presentation. From the French
beginnings, to the British influence and then the American dominance after the 2nd world war, the
entertainment industry has seen it all.
Bollywood, the Hindi language industry in Mumbai is considered by many to be the heart of the
Indian film industry. Although the format of Bollywood films has changed over the years, a

With the end of colonialism, Indian popular cinema emerged as India s sole model of national
unity and films were used as a tool for social critique. 1950 1960: A Golden Age of Indian Cinema
1950s saw the increasing popularity of cinema that derived its inspiration from realism. Foreign
influence played a key role in this development. The first International Film Festivals of India were
held in 1952. The film festival helped Indian filmmakers learn more about French and Italian neo
realist films.
Satyajit Ray, with his debut Bengali film, Pather Panchali (1955), became the pioneer of a genre of
films that would come to be recognized as Indian parallel cinema. The film won the Best Human
Document award at the Cannes Film Festival and brought Indian cinema into the international
limelight. Ray s film also marked the beginning of the resurgence of Bengali cinema, where films
targeted educated and sensitive viewers.
While Indian parallel cinema was making a mark in the festival circuits, traditional Bollywood
was gaining popularity overseas. Raj Kapoor, who both directed and acted in his films, played a
key role in popularizing mainstream Indian cinema abroad. Kapoor s film Awara (1951), dubbed
in Turkish, Farsi, and Arabic, broke box office records in South East Asia and the Middle East.
His films were also very popular in Russia and he reached such heights of popularity that the
Russians paid tribute to him as one of great

  • 3. Analysis Of The Article Reinventing The Veil The role of the veil in Persepolis One of the most controversial topics concerning Muslim women s rights is the idea of the veil. It is believed by some Muslims that the veil is an Islamic obligation that all Muslim women must adhere to. But nowadays, the veil can have different meanings that are not necessarily religious. In her article Reinventing the Veil, Leila Ahmed addresses some of the different meanings that the veil can have. Marjane Satrapi explores one of those meanings in her animated autobiography Persepolis (2008). In Persepolis, Marjane tells the story of her rebellion against the Iranian Islamist regime that takes over Iran, oppresses women, and forces them to wear the veil. What was interesting to me was seeing Marjane wear the veil without being oppressed, although she does not believe in it, and is being forced to wear it. In Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi escapes being a subject to the Iranian Islamist ideology by establishing her individual identity through transforming the veil from a means of oppression into a means of feminist rebellion. In an interview conducted by MovieWeb, Marjane notes that the film isn t political, historical or sociological. The film simply holds a humanistic message that says that human beings anywhere is the same, and they have the right to live (Satrapi.) This humanistic message is what we see Marjane fighting for in the film. She is striving to live a normal life, and one of the things that help her do that is the veil. She ... • 4. Charles Bailey And Martha Nussbaum This essay is conceived with the purpose of demonstrating personal understanding of liberal education as a result of assessing historic theory of Aristotle and comparing the contemporary theories of Charles Bailey and Martha Nussbaum. In addition, the applicable situations of liberal education and its governing principles will be discussed. Specifically, given the inevitable engagement of compulsory education, which is inherently authoritarian, some aspects of liberal education are limited, and full personal autonomycannot be actualized. In this situation, liberal education would be less effective and less suitable due to the loss of freedom to some degree. However, the importance of liberal education is vital in breaking old cultural and religious world views to produce open minded students who are capable of critical thinking. In addition, more benefits of liberal education will be shown in my later analysis by comparing it to education that is straightly vocational. The word liberal originates from the Latin liberalis , meaning free men who have been taken out of servitude. A liberal society can be considered one composed of autonomous people who are capable of making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My results showed that I am very decisive and interactive, then I am moderately stable, but not very cautious, systematic, or much of a perfectionist. These results also tied in fairly closely with my Jung Typology personality test results, which I will explain throughout the latter portion of my paper. My DISC results also ranked my seven dimensions of value and motivation. Not surprisingly for me, altruistic was my highest value, sitting at 93 out of 100. The Restoration Under Charles II Essay The Restoration Under Charles II Generally, the English people had a great celebration when Charles II returned to the throne in May of 1660.1 Many believed that restoring the monarchy was the only way to secure constitutional rights. In fact, there was an expectation that bringing back the king would return life to the way it was before 1642 and the rule of Cromwell. Charles II was responsible for improving the government for the people. However, despite some achievements, the king was not very successful in creating a stronger and more effective monarchy. This council consisted of English men who held public office or owned extensive amounts of land. Smaller committees within the council made all the major decisions.3 The king looked to the Privy Council for help in solving the country s problems. Since the king relied a large deal on the council for making decisions, Parliament did not meet as often.4 Clarendon also knew that the militia was a major part of government, but he wanted to keep the army small. He knew that a large army would make the people nervous about an absolutist monarchy. A small militia kept the country safe from a possible foreign attack.5 There was one main issue that Clarendon and Charles disagreed on very strongly: religious tolerance. Clarendon believed in using coercive acts to eliminate dissenters. However, Charles did not want to persecute people with different religious beliefs if they were not causing problems for England. In April of 1660, he put these ideas into effect with the Breda Declaration. This declaration was the first of many signs that Charles was impartial to Catholics. Parliament, however, sided with Clarendon on this conflict. In 1661, Parliament passed the Act of Uniformity. The act ended all tolerance for Presbyterianism and forced all of its followers to agree to everything in the Anglicans Book of Common Prayer. Parliament also refused to accept the king s ... There are more, of course, but we have chosen major and consistent characteristic that follow false prophets. We must interject that many prophets are not false, but fleshly. They lack maturity, discipline, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and a strong knowledge of the written word of God. Many have not died to their flesh. Others sadly lack in humility and have allowed their gifts to exclude them from accountability. Furthermore, we must understand that we are all false at some time or another. No one is infallible except the Lord. The false prophet is one who has escape divine discipline and fallen headlong into the ditch of deception. Here is the Lord s warning concerning the emergence of the false prophets as His return approaches. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect (Matthew 24:11, 24). Let us make this point clear. If you are a true prophet of the Lord, you certainly will be called false at some point in your ministry. The servant is no greater than his master is. • 19. The Song Cherry Wine By Indie Rock Artist In the song Cherry Wine , written and performed by indie rock artist Hozier, it becomes apparent early on that this is not what one might consider a typical love song; nor is it about a typical woman. Although the acoustic guitar and softer melody paint a peaceful picture, the lyrics express that there is something much deeper that lies beneath its surface. From beginning to end, every verse about this woman and his relationship with her is a contradiction, which immediately sets the tone for the way he feels being with her: it s a battle. While most lovesongs are written in hopes of appealing to a wide audience, Hozier simply writes about the faults he has found in his own relationship and how, regardless, he can t seem to walk away. Although Hozier continuously professes his love for this woman throughout this song, there are still darker lyrics and elements that should be acknowledged as well. The second verse begins with this line: Calls of guilty fall on me/ All while she stains the sheets of some other. It s very clear in this lyric that this woman has continuously accused him of being unfaithful to her all while it is implied that she is the one who has been unfaithful. It is not just coincidence that, a few lines before, Hozier says It looks ugly, but it s clean. There are many things that happen to these pigs for us to have something as simple as pork chops. Some things are just cruel, and some are just unbelievable, but it s true. Of course there are the benefits and the risks, but which one weighs more? This is what you decide. To start off with, pigs need fifty square feet to live a healthy lifestyle, but in most pig farms in the US, pigs only receive about only twenty square feet if they are in good conditions. Essentially, it is an American lottery game offered around forty four states in the United States of America. Every day millions of people are competing to buy lottery tickets from anywhere that they can find them. This includes gas stations, grocery stores, and even in malls. The sad thing about this lotterygame is that most of the income from the lottery ticket goes straight back to the state where you bought your ticket from. When a Powerballticket is bought, around fifty to sixty five percent of the two dollars goes to the prize money. While less than a dime, goes to running the lottery and twelve to fourteen cents also goes to the store that sold the ticket. The state government should utilize more of the thirty five through fifty percent of Powerball money they receive to directly address and alleviate poverty because they are using the money on things we already have, low income people are usually the ones that are buying these lottery tickets, and it would benefit the low income part of the community by the amount of support that could be given to schools. • 27. The Role Of Popular Music In The Infantilization Of Women Music can help change lives, heal wounds, or unfortunately, create stigmas. We live in a world that stigmatizes women on a daily basis, and the music industry plays no less of a significant role in reinforcing some of those stigmas. One apparent stigma that the current music industry is promoting is the infantilization of women. Infantilization is the act of treating an adult as a child, and thus denying her or his maturity. Equating women with children, and treating them as if they are weak and dependent is something we can clearly see in pop music. Whether it was through presenting women in infantilized positions in music videos or using infantilizing terms in lyrics, pop music plays a big role in shaping our inaccurate perception of women.... I predict that the participants would describe the women in the infantilized song lyrics and music videos as childlike and dependent. If my prediction was true, I would use the discussion parts to explain the powerfulness of music in shaping the perception of women in our society. In my discussion, I will incorporate the findings of Huot s and Carlson s research that go along with my predicted finding. I will also use the examples of the infantilization of women in pop culture that are shown in The Codes of Gender; a documentary film, written and directed by Sut Jhally, that focuses on the American s pop culture role in shaping the stereotypical ideas about femininity and masculinity. Also in this section, I will discuss other effects that resulted from the infantilization of women in music. I will use Alanna Vagianos s Huffington post article Drake s Hotline Bling Just Got A Genius Feminist Makeover, to help me provide an example. In this article, Vagianos presents the story of a 27 year old woman named Javetta Laster who was affected by the infantilizing lyrics of the hit song Hotline Bling, and decided to rewrite the lyrics in a more accurate way. One example of Laster s rewritten lyrics shows how the original one was presenting an infantilized look of women; the original lyric says: Why you never alone? Why you always touching road? Used to stay at home, be a good girl. You was in the zone, yeah, while Laster s edited feminist version of the same lyric says: You used to stay at home and be someone I saw fitting into the patriarchal expectations of women to be infantilized good girls which is some bizarre father/daughter husband /wife dynamic left over from women being considered adult children property. It can be used to describe the ideals of an era or time frame; just look at music over the last one hundred plus years. Japanese businesses are in favor of predicting and controlling future events in order to avoid the uncertain (Ivancevich, 2010). This is quite different from the U.S. which scores relatively low in the category. U.S. organizations tend to take more risks and plan activities on a day to day basis. When planning to hire employees in the U.S., HR would most likely look for candidates who are more aggressive and self motivated. However, Japanese organizations might look for more of an organized and conservative person to fill the role. The first one is the girly girl that wear cute items: skirts, dresses, heels, tight clothing, and piercings on the body. She is very pretty since she wears make up, while the second on is a tomboythat dresses casual clothes, doesn t care what they wear, and is most likely bisexual or lesbian. She defines these types by their wardrobe, actions, and how they want to succeed in life through their own unique way. Society tells them that is how a girl should portray herself. No matter how you act or dress, at the end of the day you are a girl and no one can tell you otherwise. The artist is a female and her style can be girly and tomboyish because that s who she is. When I first heard this song I felt like I was finally understood that I am a girl without those stereotypes. This song helped me realize I should be comfortable with myself and knowing not all girls, like myself, feel that they have to live up to the stereotypical expectation of being a girly girland shouldn t define by any stereotypes, free to live by her own expectation, not society. First time I heard this song on the radio I was filled with so much enjoyment thinking it was my birthday and the attention was all on me. I thought back to when I was a kid, I hated wearing skirts, dresses, Skorts (shorts attach under a skirt) and wearing cute petite shoes. I was forced to wear these items, but mostly I wore T shirts, jeans, sweats, and Chuck Taylor Converse in white, black, gray, black and white all the time. I felt wearing sweatpants, looking like a princess was the person I felt comfortable as. My grandma hated taking me shopping because I never wanted to go to the extremely girly section. • 42. The Nature of Thought in Joyce Essay The Nature of Thought in Joyce Thought is a problem in Joyce s work. His characters obscure trains of thought and remembrance constantly challenge the reader to keep up. I will argue that the depths of this obscurity are not, in fact, murky; they are a response to his introspection about the nature of thought, and reflect a coherent theory. Joyce often repeats phrases, and he makes such repetitions noticeable in order to direct the reader to the questions: What is thought? And what are the unconscious processes of the mind? His characters are unpredictable, experiencing truly surprising emotional reactions. This unexpectedness adds depth and verisimilitude to characterization; as in life, the strongest emotional experiences are ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He decides that, since his speech has been so successful, it would be safer not to risk offense, and hastens to his close (139). The events of the story, and not so much Gabriel, are the reason he chooses to leave the quotation out. There is another factor that contributes to his willingness to drop the verses: he has already accomplished his aim of working in Browning, by spontaneously borrowing from his own review of the poet s recent work: But we are living in a skeptical and, if I may use the phrase, a thought tormented age (138). His original words were One feels that one is listened to a thought tormented music (130). Because the article is on Gabriel s mind (after his confrontation with Miss Ivors), the phrase thought tormented is there for him to use. The fact that he does preface it with if I may use the phrase suggests that he is aware of what he is doing. However, Gabriel makes two other crucial word choices that are unconscious but telling. They are apparent under a close reading, and even produce a vague feeling of familiarity under casual reading. Gabriel s cousin Mary Jane says, as Gabriel and Gretta prepare to leave, I read this morning in the newspapers that the snow is general all over Ireland (144). And in conversation at dinner, Mary Jane describes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
