Radiation and Tyroid Cancer Essay
For decades, the effects of radiation has been studied by doctors around the world. X rays are used in
the medical and dental field to take radiographs of certain parts of a person s body. Some have become
concerned of the long term and short term effects of having x rays taken because of the radiation that
is exposed. Since the rise of concern, studies have been done to find any type of link between cancer
and radiation from x rays. Specifically, in dental x rays, researchers have been performing studies
trying to prove that radiation from x rays in the dental office can cause cancer . In 2011, Colleagues
from the National Cancer Institute conducted a study involving dental x rays. Sara Schonfield and

Dr. Oz believes and has been encouraging people to limit the use of x rays and that it raises the risk of
causing cancer (Brody.) He said thyroid cancer was the fastest growing cancer in women. He said it
was from dental x rays and mammograms. His thoughts were that people who had more than 5 x rays
a year were at a higher risk of being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He also strongly recommended
that anyone who goes to get dental x rays done should use a lead thyroid shield. On the other hand, a
thyroid cancer specialist, Dr. Leonard Wartofsky argues that with the new technology and scientific
equipment we have these days, there is no reason to be concerned. The amount of radiation that is
actually exposed is not enough to cause harmful damage to anyone. Also, the radiation that is actually
exposed from dental x rays has decreased a huge amount for the past two decades. According to
researchers in England, their conclusion to their studies was that further research needed to be
conducted. They reported that several factors may possibly play an important role leading to the
increased diagnoses of thyroid cancer (Nordqvist.) Their case control study was in fact the largest ever
done, but they also wanted to let the public know that the results should be treated with caution
because the data were necessarily based on self reporting by the

Explain Why The Chicago Cubs Beat The Cardinals
Why the Cubs Beat the Cardinals Did you know that the Chicago cubs and St. Louis cardinals have
never played each other in the playoffs till 2015. The Chicago cubs and St. Louis cardinals have been
rivals since the late 19th century, but back then they were called the Chicago white stockings and the
St. Louis brown stockings. The rivalry between them has been filled with hatred, friendship, and a lot
of games between the two organizations. The cubs played the cardinals in the NLDS this year and won
in four games 3 1. The cubs won the series by home runs, good pitching, and a healthy team. The
Chicago cubs hit ten home runs in those four games against St. Louis, including setting a record for
most homeruns in a postseason game with six.

How Customer Service Has Grown And Changed Over The Years
This paper explores three published articles that report on subjects having to do with customer
support. Be the relationships online (Internet) and offline (non Internet) and how they relate to
customer service and the help desk environments. The articles have little variance in how they treat
and face the subject matter as this is more about the history and thus not a very subjective topic. This
paper examines these three works in relation to each other and to show how customer service has
grown and changed over the years, from face to face interactions to computer mediated
communication.
Keywords: customer service, help desk
The modern help desk is something most every consumer of technology will experience now days, be
it through toll free numbers, websites, instant messaging or e mail. However this is just what a help
desk has evolved into in the modern day. The need for good customer relations has been around since
the client customer model came into use. Known as customer support , it has changed dramatically
over the past 100 years.
The term help desk originally meant the place where employees would get technical support relating
to their company s information technologies infrastructure, recently the scope of this term has
expanded in its meaning and use. For instance in some educational settings the term could refer to
help provided in the reference library. Before the turn of the century customer and client interaction

Essay on The Fires of Jubilee by Stephen B. Oates
The Fires of Jubilee by Stephen B. Oates
The Fires of Jubilee by Stephen B. Oates describes a sad and tragic story about a man named Nat
Turner who was born into slavery and his fight to be free. Ironically, his willingness to do anything,
even kill, to gain his freedom leads to his own demise. From the title of this book, The Fires of
Jubilee, ; a reader can truly grasp the concept that there is trouble, chaos, and mayhem brewing in the
month of August.
This story was not only riveting, but also one that kept me on my heels for almost the entire time that I
was reading it. Stephen B. Oates, a prize winning author of thirteen books and more then seventy
articles, is currently a professor of history at the University of ... Show more content on

With this newly acquired knowledge, he began preaching the Old Testament to the other slaves, about
what freedom meant and how they should fight for it. He mainly preached to a group of five other
slaves, with the addition of two more later on about the concept of freedom. Nat felt as if he was
driven into some corner of slavery from which there was no return, only his imagination was he free.
He had a burning rage to fight against the Serpent, and slay the enemy with their own weapon.
During their March of Destruction, ; things began to get out of hand. Though he was willing to go to
extreme measures to gain his freedom, the events that ended up taking place ended up becoming a
massacre. Due to Nat s rebellion, 60 whites and 200 blacks died. Though Nat did in fact partake in the
killings, the author makes it out to seem as if in the end, Nat did not really want this to become a
bloodbath. Although he thought that it was getting out of hand, he stood idly by, watching the
massacre take place. In the end, a total of 50 stood trial, and 21, including Nat Turner were hung for
the rebellion.
After the rebellion and the death of Nat Turner, Garrison and Knapp, whom believed that Negroes had
as much to the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as whites enjoyed, published the
Liberator ; in Boston, demanding that slaves be emancipated and freed. Though it cannot be said with

Penguins And Oil Spills
Do you know how many penguins died in the past 10 year from oil spills ? 2.5 million penguins have
died from oil spills in the last 10 years.¨ the sea bird chronicle¨ and ¨the amazing penguin rescue have
many similarities and differences such as conflict and how the setting creates a mood.
One similarity between .¨ the sea bird chronicle¨ and ¨the amazing penguin rescue´´ is the conflict.
Both stories conflict is character vs nature because in the amazing penguin rescue a boat spills oil in
the ocean and almost killed all of the penguins. An example is ´´ as you come to the surface for air ,
the water feels unfamiliar it is to thick and it burns your eyes.´´(16 tarshis) This quote is significant
because the penguins can t swim when theres and oil spill because their feathers are to heavy.
Similarities in ´´the amazing penguin rescue´´ they had a character vs nature conflict. An example is
that the volunteers put sweaters on all of the penguins to keep them warm until they could get all of
the oil off the birds. This quote is significant because there is fear that if too much oil spills they won t

volunteers spent their time knitting sweater for the penguins . In contrast ´´the amazing penguin rescue

An American Soldier in World War I
An American Soldier in World War I is written by Liberty professor David L. Snead. It tells the story
of a soldier and his fiancé relationship through World War I through letters they wrote one another.
Professor Snead was introduced to the letters by a student of his Page Waugh. They were letters from
her uncle to her aunt and with permission from her family he combines the letters and historical
context to write a book about Browne, Marty and the war. The thesis of this book seems to be seeing
the war through the eyes of a soldier in the middle of a vicious war and the relationship that sees him
through it. George Browne and Martha Marty Johnson are two people making the best out of a tough
situation and their undying love and commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Browne writes less but his letters are much more descriptive of deficiencies in the AEF S training
program and problem the soldiers face. From Browne description the crossing of the Atlantic Ocean
was a very horrible trip, and once they arrived they were but on trains to but according to Browne
letter the train trip was no better than the boat trip. According to the author, The boat was heaven
compared to the train. We ate hard tack and canned meat and never washed or shaved or slept. (Snead
2006, 38) In chapter 3 Browne talks a lot about the battles the group is now fighting and the woes or
war. But also in this chapter he speaks of the war and the distance from Marty and how he feels like
something is different in their relationship. Browne knows the infrequency of letters and not quickly
responding back to her but he assures her he still loves her and enjoys her letter, it s just a mean
disposition he has because of the war. Browne tells Marty, I love you always only it s hard to tell
about it in miserable weather when one is living in a barn and usually tired out from marching thru
mud. (Snead 2006, 83) In chapter 4 Browne and the 42nd dough boys are now in Champagne, France
and are in heavy combat constantly. He writes of how the Germans are attaching and the Allies are
taking heavy lost. The campaign in Champagne brought the war home full force, the lost was great.
The author states, The 42nd

The Importance Of Genes In The Evolution Of Plants
2011). The genes have been awoken in multiple angiosperm plants throughout the evolution of today s
modern plants. These genes have not been found in gymnosperms. The genes are only being utilized
when in seed form for most flowering plants. Being able to switch these genes on like a light switch,
in the tissue and fiber of conventional crops will aid in our fight against world hunger.
During severe desiccation periods, plant lose all the available protoplasmic water. This loss of water
causes structural stress as decreased cell volume places tension on the plasmalemma as it shrinks form
plasmadesmatal attachments to the cell wall, the ultimate rupture of which allows entry of
extracellular hydrolases and cell death (Jill F. 2016). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A plant that could essentially lose more than 90% of its molecular H2O, regenerate and begin growing
again after long periods of drought could possibly change how whole nations do agriculture.
Agricultural regions that are rain fed would be able to incorporate an additional growing season. This
can be achieved by leaving the plants that have died from lack of water till the next year when the rain
falls thus causing an early crop that will be simultaneous with planting the next year s crop or a spread
out cropping throughout the year because different plants will be a different maturation stages. The
effects this process will have will ensure that no plant is wasted due to heat stress. The amount of
plants that die from heat stress will vary, never the less implementing the desiccated crops in with the
crops that survive from the current year will benefit yield production.
Resurrection plants can remain in the dead, fringed state for months to years. Even after being dead it
can still regenerate, become green and continue to grow. Like the seeds of all angio sperm plants, the
seeds are desiccation tolerant. Only 135 flowering plants have the regenerative tissue. As of 2016
there are 391,000 vascular plants in the world. 369,000 of those

All colleges have great advantages and disadvantages to offer to each future student to better their
education. Students often look into colleges through their websites which is a smart move. 85% of the
time, their websites will reflect on the college. Macomb Community College and Barnard College
have plenty of differences and similarities as to how their websites carry information to their students.
The most notable similarity from each Macomb and Barnard website to me would be the college
scheme both links have. They both have a deep royal blue coloring to their pages. Blue is not only a
color, but it implies trust, reliability and professionalism which is why it appears so frequently in

The site is very organized for any person to enter the it and find what they are looking for within
seconds. Another thing that caught my eye is right in the middle of the Barnard site, it states The
College, The Students, The Latest from this, it looks like those three topics is the colleges many
focuses which is great. Lastly, each picture on the Barnard website is of a female unlike the Macomb
homepage, having both genders on the website. As you can tell, each college has something to offer.
Macomb has seem to be a school to get a basic education to eventually be in the progress to transfer to
a four year college to evolve. Macomb can be a school for students that want to stay close to home,
want to get there basic education out of the way, students that want to save money and plenty of other
reasons. Barnard seems to be a school to learn everyday skill to use, then learn to input them into your
future career. Barnard can be for girls that want to get a higher education and have the money for it,
love the city einverioment and want to feel empowered by going to an all girl college. Macomb
Community College and Barnard College both are great schools to get a fine education from.
Sometimes you need to look into details, and not just what the school offers to you and your future.

Within this conference space and CAS as a whole, I had finally found a home for my interests in the
decolonial politics of transnational and postcolonial feminism, politics of race and culture, and
narratives about animals agency and resistance. My presentation, A Transnational Feminist Critique of
the U.S. Slaughterhouse System, discussed how both the animals killed in slaughterhouses and the
undocumented workers employed there are exploited by animal agribusiness and relegated to the
margins of society. Inspired by Sara Ahmed s concept of the stranger, a paradoxical figure who is
perceived as strange due to their race and otherness, I argued that human and nonhuman others are
perceived as unlawful intruders due to both racism and speciesism. Thus, they are expelled from the
white, human, and civilized community to maintain social hierarchies and private property. The
presentation included a slide of a cow escaping from a slaughterhouse into an urban neighborhood.
Showing the complexity of human animal encounters, the cow, who was later named Molly, was both
removed as an unlawful intruder from the community into which she fled, but also invoked public
affection (a ballad honoring her can be found on youtube). A decolonial method of studying animal
resistance attempts to read documents from the perspective of nonhuman animals such as Molly and
recognizes the centrality of capitalist globalization and white human supremacy in oppressive social

Magnificent Minds Of The Renaissance in Europe Essay
The high renaissance of the 1500 s was a time of scientific, philosophic, and artistic awe and

expressed their assumptions on the world and universe around them. In addition, many individuals
were gifted with artistic dexterity and skill. The amazing achievements of Michelangelo, Raphael, and

At the old age of 89, Michelangelo died. Another magnificent artist, who was inspired by
Michelangelo, was Raphael.
On April 6, 1483, in the town of Urbino Italy, the greatest and most popular artist of all time would be
born, and he would be given the name of Raphael. In Raphael s early years, he became inspired by his
father, the painter Giovanni Santi, and began painting at an early age. At the age of 22, and in search
of new painting techniques, Raphael began studying some of the famous artists of his day such as
Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. After years of studying, and observing Leonardo and
Michelangelo s art, Raphael developed his own techniques for lighting and shading and produced a
new informal manner of painting. During the premature developments of these new techniques,
Raphael tested his skill by painting various quot;Madonna quot; paintings such as Madonna of the
Goldfinch and Madonna del Baldacchino. Once these techniques were perfected around 1508,
Raphael was sent to Rome to decorate four rooms of the Vatican Palace with scenic frescoes. These
four rooms contain some of Raphael s finest work, such as the magnificent fresco The School of
Athens which depicts an open building scene in which Plato, Aristotle, and other ancient philosophers
are in deep contemplation and conversation. In addition to Raphael s Vatican Palace

Betrayal In Macbeth And The Lion King
The saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from our enemies . Betrayal is defined as the
breaking or violation of a trust or confidence that produces conflict within a relationship between
individuals such as friends, family members, or team mates. The people we trust or rely on are the
ones who are capable of betraying us. By disregarding or not respecting certain relationships with
people, our sense of loyalty can be destroyed. Some acts of betrayal can result in short term success,
sometimes acts of betrayal may be the ultimate downfall of an individual. As interpreted in both
Macbeth and The Lion King, many deeds of betrayal are acted upon, dismantling a number of
relationships creating the success to be either a short term success or an epic failure in the long term.

moved the party to the extreme right amongst other things, making her members of parliament keen to

1900 and 2000, the conservatives were in power two third of the time. The period in time when they
were not in power, was in 1997 were they lost the election and also in 2001.At that point time, the
conservative leaders were (William Hague and Iain Duncan smith) who struggled to win back votes of
the people. The policies that were left by Margret Thatcher were not favoured by the people. In 2003,
Michael Howard (right winger) revived the conservatives but the conservatives were defeated by the

A Critical Analysis Of Jackson Pollock And Steve Jobs
All individuals living within a community, are constantly being influenced by others while they
develop their personalities, habits, and morals. Some people are naturally inclined to follow and others
are confident enough in their own thinking to lead. A leader must think for themselves, allowing their
uniqueness to translate into creative solutions. An individual s decision to follow an unpopular path
will always be either applauded or scrutinized by others, which can be discouraging. It is important for
individuals to both listen to what others have to say about their work, while also remaining confident
in their abilities. Trailblazers like Jackson Pollock and Steve Jobs show that in order for an individual
to successfully take their own path in life and perpetuate it, they must find their calling, be confident
in their abilities, and listen to other s critiques without allowing themselves to become filled with
pressure or self doubt. Jackson Pollock succeeded in developing a new artistic technique to depict the
world by accepting culture s initial reactions understandingly and remaining confident in himself.
Pollock broadly describes the origin of his use of abstract expressionism in a 1949 interview with
William Wright. He explains how he practiced many of the great historical art techniques in school,
but felt that the modern painter cannot express this age, the airplane, the atom bomb, the radio, in the
old forms of the Renaissance or of any other past culture

Red House Research Paper
Most of my childhood memories took place in the home that I remember best, the red house on
Hawthorne Street, in Portland, Oregon. The house was three stories of endless adventure, with a great
big backyard for any little girl s imagination to run wild. In fact, I spent so much time outside that I
barely remember the house at all. Also, for some reason, my fondest memories took place during the
summer while I lived there. I remember riding my tricycle on the sidewalk with the two twin boys
across the street, and sharing my dolls with the little girl who lived in the yellow bungalow three
houses down from mine. But, the memory that sticks out most is our forth of July block party. I was
dressed like every four year old girl on forth of July,

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther King And Gandhi
Introduction
From December, 1955 until April 4, 1968, in the less than 13 years of Martin Luther King as the
leader of the modern American Civil Rights Movement, African Americans achieved more progress
toward racial equality in America than in the previous 350 years. Dr. King is widely regarded as
America s pre eminent activist of nonviolence and one of the greatest nonviolent leaders in history of
the world.
Inspired by his Faith in God, Dr. King led a nonviolent committee in the late 1950 s and 60s to
achieve legal equality for African Americans in the United States. While others were demanding for
freedom by any means necessary, including violence, Martin Luther King, Jr. used his words and acts
to accomplish nonaggressive resistance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Almost immediately, after giving his statement, Ray tried to take back his confession, saying he had
rented the room at the boardinghouse and bought the gun, but he had handed over the weapon to a
man he called Raoul. In 1992, Ray wrote a book, Who Killed Martin Luther King, Jr? The True Story
by the Alleged Assassin, giving his version of situations, which suggested there had been a plot and a
government cover up. Although in 1978, a special congressional committee reported that there was a
likelihood Ray had not acted alone, the case was not reopened.
Ray met with one of King s sons, Dexter, in 1997 and told him, I had nothing to do with shooting your
father. King s widow and heirs began expressing their certainty that Ray was innocent and the
assassination was part of a conspiracy. However, Ray never provided sufficient details to support his
argument of a conspiracy and cover up. Nevertheless, many besides the Kings doubt he acted alone.

Having Friends In Its A Wonderful Life
As this website once advised, if you want to feel rich, just count all the gifts you have that money can t
buy. This quote relates to my theme, having friends and family will never make anyone fail in life,
because it shows that having family and friends are something you can t buy and you need. For
instance, George having uncle Billy to guide him with Peter Bailey s business, George s dad,
throughout the movie, such as in staying later in order for George can go spend precious time with his

Suddenly, Clarence appears out of the no where in order to save him from jumping into the ocean and

Hausman test
Hausman test which usually accepted method of selecting between random and fixed effects which is
running on regression equation. Hausman (1978) provided a tectonic change in interpretation related
to the specification of econometric models. The seminal insight that one could compare two models
which were both consistent under the null spawned a test which was both simple and powerful. The so
called Hausman test has been applied and extended theoretically in a variety of econometric domains.
We focus on the construction of the Hausman test in a variety of panel data settings, and in particular,
the recent adaptation of the Hausman test to semi parametric and nonparametric panel data models. A
formal application of the Hausman test is given focusing on testing between fixed and random effects
within a panel data model. Mostly fixed effects are accepted way to run with panel data as they always
present consistent outcomes but may not be the most effective way to implement. On the other hand,
random effects usually provide to the researcher better P values as it considered to be a more active
estimator, so researcher can study random effects if it is reasonable to do so. Moreover, Hausman test
choose a more effective model compared to a less efficient as consistent model should presents robust
estimates and consistent results owing to the more efficient model.

The First Incident Of The Civil War Essay
In 2000 the Zimbabwean government tried to amend the constitution, and replace the Willing Buyer,
Willing Seller act with one that would allow government to expropriate whatever land it needed,
without compensation. This attempt to amend the constitution failed. However, the War veterans
association, independently mobilized people and marched on farms owned by white people, and
forcefully removing them from their land. It is widely believed that the British are responsible for this
because they didn t follow promises that they had made with the people of Zimbabwe on multiple
occasions in history. The first incident was when Cecil Rhodes broke the Rudd Concessions; the
second incident was when Ian Smith tried to create a façade of majority rule; and the last and final
incident was when the British broke the agreements made at the Lancaster house. However, the British
cannot be blamed for breaking of the Lancaster agreements because they didn t benefit the poor and
were too expensive.
Zimbabwe s history can be tracked back to the pre colonial, Kingdom of Mapungubwe of the 13th
century [Source I]. Zimbabwe was the African trading capital. The Mapungubwe kingdom traded in
iron, copper, pottery, gold, beads, art, ivory and skins. The Mapungubwe kingdom had over a 100
tributaries and controlled the whole of Southern Africa, but was headquartered in Zimbabwe. The
prince of the Mapungubwe kingdom then decided to travel north in search of salt but on this journey,

Essay About Teaching African American Male Students
Introduction
The purpose of this study is to examine how the strategies implemented within the classroom are set in
place to increase young adult literature engagement towards African American males in middle
through high school classrooms living in a sector of North Texas. The research questions framing the
study are as follows:
1. What pressing problems do teachers face in addressing the needs of African American males who
are struggling readers and writers?
2. What are teacher s perceptions towards teaching African American male students?
3. What applications are involved in increasing the African American male s engagement in literature
and writing in the classroom?
Pressing Problems
According to numerous studies by Dwarte, Lewis Lancaster,Warren, Henfield and Washington suggest
the pressing problem of empathy, professional development and cultural background needs to be
addressed in an effort to improve the African American male student achievement gap. It s important
to address empathy because teachers need to care for their students. Additionally, professional ... Show

regarding African American male students may cause the student to be less engaged. Hopkins reports
that the configurations of schools were never calculated for Black males, because of the ubiquity of
hegemonic, mainstream systems that were not even designed for them from the beginning, it s no easy

The Importance of Education in The Republic by Plato
The great philosopher Plato, speaking through the character of Socrates in his book The Republic,
holds the belief that true and good education is what leads civilizations to prosper. Due to this, he is
very concerned with the issue of education and how it will be addressed in the state that he and his
fellow companions hope to design and build. He talks about how important education is in achieving
this idea of justice and morality. Furthermore, I believe that many of the concepts he brings about
relating to this subject are still very valid today and can be applied worldwide. Plato believes that
education is necessary for the rulers of cities to be effective and that it is the only way to truly
understand and achieve the goal of providing and looking out for the citizens of any state. One of the
reasons Plato finds education such a necessity and regards it so highly is that it is required to even
understand the concept of true justice and being able to distinguish it from injustice. Now although the
major point of this book is to establish a meaning for justice, he believes that education is key and it is
clear that all the people he associates with in the story are well educated high members of society.
Having knowledge on this subject and many others will allow those that eventually become guardians
to tell when something is not just or is at least not beneficial for the well being of the citizens.
Education is also a major factor in understanding the soul and the

Women And Women s Political Status
Traditionally, politics has been a gendered occupation. Men and women have been socially
constructed to believe only men are capable of political representation. The problem lies within an
institutional bias, where unnatural distinctions have been put in place from a young age. In New
Zealand, the presence and contribution of women have been pivotal to the make up of contemporary
party politics. Achieving parliamentary recognition and political representation peaked during the
1970s when the country was experiencing large changes in its economic and social environment.
Through activism and pressure groups, women were able to seek recognition in New Zealand s
political domain. The change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) eased the access of different
political groups to parliament, improving the representation of minority groups such as women that
have been under represented in politics. Proportional representation offered new opportunities in terms
of policy change through women s political participation. It has, however, been argued that the
structure of proportional representation has been a hindrance toward a significant step forward for
women s political participation. This essay will discuss to what extent the contribution of women
through time, coupled with the shift to a new electoral system in a changing social environment, has
been a step forward for women s political participation in New Zealand party politics.

Auto Bailout
Should Obama Bail Out the Auto Industry?
Context and Situations
By November 2008, Chrysler s sales had shrunk 25%. GM posted losses of $18 billion, and Ford lost
$11.5 billion. Despite Ford s elimination of 1/3 of its workforce, GM s elimination of 30,000 jobs, and
Chrysler s cutting of 13,000 employees, the Big Three were on the brink of bankruptcy. All three
testified before both houses of congress asking for loans to avoid default. The Big Three stated their
demise would trigger 3 million layoffs within a year, plunging the economy further into recession.
The purpose of the loans was to provide operating cash for GM and Chrysler, and to keep making auto

The question is: Did the government structure the financing correctly?
The government decided to take an equity stake at GM and thus was facing the possibility that a
substantial amount of these funds would never be repaid. The government has already written off or
realized losses of over $7 billion as of April 2012[2]. More losses will come as the government sells
its remaining stake in GM and Ally Financial. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the
auto bailout will ultimately cost taxpayers a total of about $20 billion[3]. The Treasury Department is
even more pessimistic, projecting that, at GM s current stock price, taxpayers will lose $23 billion[4].
Consequences
Consequence for the labor unions: In an opinion editorial published by The Detroit News, Mitt
Romney not only attacks the way the administration handled the bailout of General Motors Co. and
Chrysler Group LLC, but argues that the United Auto Workers (UAW) union benefited from the
bankruptcies in wake of contributing millions to Democrats and Barack Obama s campaign.
This spending greatly benefited the UAW and its members. Without the Administration s intervention,
a smaller bailout would have required incumbent UAW members, not just new employees, to accept
pay and benefit cuts. Average labor costs would have fallen to the same levels as the foreign
transplants, approximately $47 an hour. While this is still substantially higher compensation than the
average

The Importance Of Religion And Superstition
Sometimes the question about spirituality, and why people believe in it swarms around the minds of
today s society. It never occurred to me about the importance of why people believed in religion or
superstition until I entered high school. Growing up Catholic, it felt like a routine to attend mass every
Friday and Sunday because that was what everyone I knew did. I was never that interested in any
belief of God, let alone any interest in superstition. I always thought that my religious beliefs tied to
my cultural background. Growing up as a second generation of Filipino heritage, life without Christ
was looked upon as unbearable, and less motivating to do things in life. It is as if Filipinos needed to
breathe with the motivation of God, and become heavily influenced by applying Catholicism to its
culture. However, the question about why people believe in religion and superstition is still a mystery
to this day. I conducted an interview with a good friend of mine named Andrei. Andrei values
humbleness, and during my interview with him, he reminisces about the times when he was a little
boy, he and his grandmother would constantly go to the Christian Orthodox Church to pray. When I
came to the question about what he thought about the idea of the significance of religion as well as
superstition, he answered, Whatever you believe in comes from within yourself. (Vlad. Personal

The Religious Symbolism and Architecture of Angkor Wat and...

Built by the Khmers between 802 and 1220 AD, the ancient temples of Angkor Wat exist as the
remaining relics of a historically and religiously rich city. While many other historical and religious
structures in Cambodia have disappeared due in part from being constructed out of vulnerable
materials like wood, Angkor Wat still remains as a symbol of the divinity of its former kings, as well
as for the palace itself. Likewise, Indonesia s Borodubur temples exist as the single remaining
structures of the city. The temples of Angkor Wat and Borodubur hold several similarities within
architecture and symbolism, both being heavily based on religious belief. However, different features

Decorative elements through out the towers and galleries present their own characteristics and fulfill
specific needs within the temple. The towers are formed into the shape of the ever popular lotus buds,
and the galleries are used to expand the many passageways of the temple. Also, the axial galleries
within the temple are used to connect several enclosures. Characteristic decorative components of
Angkor Wat include narrative and historical bas reliefs, pediments, and devatas. The bas reliefs
located in the gallery of Angkor Wat holds a special signification for Angkor Wat. The gallery displays
heaven and the underworld in which garudas and lions are holding the celestial palaces. These gerudas
indicate that the palaces were floating in heaven, comparing Angkor Wat to the palaces of the Gods.
This display furthers the idea that Angkor Wat acts as a liason between the world of Heaven and Earth.
Because the palace physically remains on earth but spiritually resides within heaven, the palace acts as
communal place for believers to gather.
The bas reliefs and pictures did not only serve to decorate the palaces, or depict stories of the past.
They hold the important task of transforming the palace into a celestial dwelling or heavenly place.
Further evidence to support this notion is

Raising the Barre As one of the few ballets that has been performed continuously for centuries, Giselle
has become one of the most renowned ballets of all time. Giselle was conceived in 1841 by Gautier
specifically for the famous ballerina of the Paris Opera Ballet, Carlotta Grisi. This ballet was a product
of the thriving creativity of the 19th century. The classic story tells of a young girl, Giselle, who has
caught the eye of two men. As the ballet progresses, Giselle falls in love with one of the men, only to
have her heart broken. Because she is weak in health, Giselle dies of heart break and is to become one
of the Wilis, a clan of ghostly women who haunt men from beyond their graves. It is obvious that
Giselle is from the Romantic era because of the many identifying elements that connect it to
Romanticism as well as the historical influences and gender roles that are reflected in the ballet s
story. Many elements most commonly associated with Giselle include white romantic tutus, the

famous variation from the first act, Giselle completes thirty ballonnés en pointe with great ease.
Furthermore, the eery synchronicity and solemn countenance of the Wilis is

The Importance Of Reducing The Intensity Of A Sonic Boom
Shawn Merrick Miller Ryan Cilsick Science Research 12/20/16
The importance of reducing the intensity of a sonic boom is essential to making supersonic flight a
possibility for passenger aircraft over land. Currently, supersonic flight over land in the US is
prohibited by the FAA due to the annoyance associated with the sonicboom to people (observers) on
the ground. The advancement of sonic boom reduction could lead to the advancement in the way we
travel around the world with amazing speeds. Speeds up to mach 3.3 at 88,000ft (That s nearly 17
miles!) can be achieved in an SR 71 Blackbird, that keep in mind, it was made and introduced in 1966.
50 years later, we have the ability to transport people vast distances and at high speeds safely, but we
don t. Why not? Getting up to speed is not the issue in this circumstance, the issue is doing it quietly.
It can be said that this problem can be eliminated by making a suborbital transport aircraft, which
could be very beneficial, but will still create a sonic boom, and will still, annoy people. At a higher
price. Supersonic flight was pioneered by the air force in 1947, when Chuck Yeager became the first
man to break the sound barrier. Shortly after, supersonic aircraft research was started.
Supersonic cruising aircraft did not begin until the mid 1950 s. Research on such aircraft had its
origins in the United States in the work which was begun in 1954 or 1955 in support of the Air Force

Some have become concerned of the long term and short term effects of having x rays taken because of the radiation that is exposed. Since the rise of concern, studies have been done to find any type of link between cancer and radiation from x rays. Specifically, in dental x rays, researchers have been performing studies trying to prove that radiation from x rays in the dental office can cause cancer . In 2011, Colleagues from the National Cancer Institute conducted a study involving dental x rays. Sara Schonfield and others did comparisons with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. Oz believes and has been encouraging people to limit the use of x rays and that it raises the risk of causing cancer (Brody.) He said thyroid cancer was the fastest growing cancer in women. He said it was from dental x rays and mammograms. His thoughts were that people who had more than 5 x rays a year were at a higher risk of being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He also strongly recommended that anyone who goes to get dental x rays done should use a lead thyroid shield. On the other hand, a thyroid cancer specialist, Dr. Leonard Wartofsky argues that with the new technology and scientific equipment we have these days, there is no reason to be concerned. The amount of radiation that is actually exposed is not enough to cause harmful damage to anyone. Also, the radiation that is actually exposed from dental x rays has decreased a huge amount for the past two decades. According to researchers in England, their conclusion to their studies was that further research needed to be conducted. They reported that several factors may possibly play an important role leading to the increased diagnoses of thyroid cancer (Nordqvist.) Their case control study was in fact the largest ever done, but they also wanted to let the public know that the results should be treated with caution because the data were necessarily based on self reporting by the ... With this newly acquired knowledge, he began preaching the Old Testament to the other slaves, about what freedom meant and how they should fight for it. He mainly preached to a group of five other slaves, with the addition of two more later on about the concept of freedom. Nat felt as if he was driven into some corner of slavery from which there was no return, only his imagination was he free. He had a burning rage to fight against the Serpent, and slay the enemy with their own weapon. During their March of Destruction, ; things began to get out of hand. Though he was willing to go to extreme measures to gain his freedom, the events that ended up taking place ended up becoming a massacre. Due to Nat s rebellion, 60 whites and 200 blacks died. Though Nat did in fact partake in the killings, the author makes it out to seem as if in the end, Nat did not really want this to become a bloodbath. Although he thought that it was getting out of hand, he stood idly by, watching the massacre take place. In the end, a total of 50 stood trial, and 21, including Nat Turner were hung for the rebellion. • 10. The Importance Of Genes In The Evolution Of Plants 2011). The genes have been awoken in multiple angiosperm plants throughout the evolution of today s modern plants. These genes have not been found in gymnosperms. The genes are only being utilized when in seed form for most flowering plants. Being able to switch these genes on like a light switch, in the tissue and fiber of conventional crops will aid in our fight against world hunger. During severe desiccation periods, plant lose all the available protoplasmic water. This loss of water causes structural stress as decreased cell volume places tension on the plasmalemma as it shrinks form plasmadesmatal attachments to the cell wall, the ultimate rupture of which allows entry of extracellular hydrolases and cell death (Jill F. 2016). ... A plant that could essentially lose more than 90% of its molecular H2O, regenerate and begin growing again after long periods of drought could possibly change how whole nations do agriculture. Agricultural regions that are rain fed would be able to incorporate an additional growing season. This can be achieved by leaving the plants that have died from lack of water till the next year when the rain falls thus causing an early crop that will be simultaneous with planting the next year s crop or a spread out cropping throughout the year because different plants will be a different maturation stages. The effects this process will have will ensure that no plant is wasted due to heat stress. Within this conference space and CAS as a whole, I had finally found a home for my interests in the decolonial politics of transnational and postcolonial feminism, politics of race and culture, and narratives about animals agency and resistance. My presentation, A Transnational Feminist Critique of the U.S. Slaughterhouse System, discussed how both the animals killed in slaughterhouses and the undocumented workers employed there are exploited by animal agribusiness and relegated to the margins of society. Inspired by Sara Ahmed s concept of the stranger, a paradoxical figure who is perceived as strange due to their race and otherness, I argued that human and nonhuman others are perceived as unlawful intruders due to both racism and speciesism. Thus, they are expelled from the white, human, and civilized community to maintain social hierarchies and private property. The presentation included a slide of a cow escaping from a slaughterhouse into an urban neighborhood. Showing the complexity of human animal encounters, the cow, who was later named Molly, was both removed as an unlawful intruder from the community into which she fled, but also invoked public affection (a ballad honoring her can be found on youtube). A Critical Analysis Of Jackson Pollock And Steve Jobs All individuals living within a community, are constantly being influenced by others while they develop their personalities, habits, and morals. Some people are naturally inclined to follow and others are confident enough in their own thinking to lead. A leader must think for themselves, allowing their uniqueness to translate into creative solutions. An individual s decision to follow an unpopular path will always be either applauded or scrutinized by others, which can be discouraging. It is important for individuals to both listen to what others have to say about their work, while also remaining confident in their abilities. Trailblazers like Jackson Pollock and Steve Jobs show that in order for an individual to successfully take their own path in life and perpetuate it, they must find their calling, be confident in their abilities, and listen to other s critiques without allowing themselves to become filled with pressure or self doubt. Jackson Pollock succeeded in developing a new artistic technique to depict the world by accepting culture s initial reactions understandingly and remaining confident in himself. Pollock broadly describes the origin of his use of abstract expressionism in a 1949 interview with William Wright. Hausman test Hausman test which usually accepted method of selecting between random and fixed effects which is running on regression equation. Hausman (1978) provided a tectonic change in interpretation related to the specification of econometric models. The seminal insight that one could compare two models which were both consistent under the null spawned a test which was both simple and powerful. The so called Hausman test has been applied and extended theoretically in a variety of econometric domains. We focus on the construction of the Hausman test in a variety of panel data settings, and in particular, the recent adaptation of the Hausman test to semi parametric and nonparametric panel data models. A formal application of the Hausman test is given focusing on testing between fixed and random effects within a panel data model. Mostly fixed effects are accepted way to run with panel data as they always present consistent outcomes but may not be the most effective way to implement. On the other hand, random effects usually provide to the researcher better P values as it considered to be a more active estimator, so researcher can study random effects if it is reasonable to do so. Moreover, Hausman test choose a more effective model compared to a less efficient as consistent model should presents robust estimates and consistent results owing to the more efficient model. The First Incident Of The Civil War Essay In 2000 the Zimbabwean government tried to amend the constitution, and replace the Willing Buyer, Willing Seller act with one that would allow government to expropriate whatever land it needed, without compensation. This attempt to amend the constitution failed. However, the War veterans association, independently mobilized people and marched on farms owned by white people, and forcefully removing them from their land. It is widely believed that the British are responsible for this because they didn t follow promises that they had made with the people of Zimbabwe on multiple occasions in history. The first incident was when Cecil Rhodes broke the Rudd Concessions; the second incident was when Ian Smith tried to create a façade of majority rule; and the last and final incident was when the British broke the agreements made at the Lancaster house. However, the British cannot be blamed for breaking of the Lancaster agreements because they didn t benefit the poor and were too expensive. • 30. The Importance of Education in The Republic by Plato The great philosopher Plato, speaking through the character of Socrates in his book The Republic, holds the belief that true and good education is what leads civilizations to prosper. Due to this, he is very concerned with the issue of education and how it will be addressed in the state that he and his fellow companions hope to design and build. He talks about how important education is in achieving this idea of justice and morality. Furthermore, I believe that many of the concepts he brings about relating to this subject are still very valid today and can be applied worldwide. Plato believes that education is necessary for the rulers of cities to be effective and that it is the only way to truly understand and achieve the goal of providing and looking out for the citizens of any state. One of the reasons Plato finds education such a necessity and regards it so highly is that it is required to even understand the concept of true justice and being able to distinguish it from injustice. Now although the major point of this book is to establish a meaning for justice, he believes that education is key and it is clear that all the people he associates with in the story are well educated high members of society. Having knowledge on this subject and many others will allow those that eventually become guardians to tell when something is not just or is at least not beneficial for the well being of the citizens. Education is also a major factor in understanding the soul and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Women And Women s Political Status Traditionally, politics has been a gendered occupation. Men and women have been socially constructed to believe only men are capable of political representation. The problem lies within an institutional bias, where unnatural distinctions have been put in place from a young age. In New Zealand, the presence and contribution of women have been pivotal to the make up of contemporary party politics. Achieving parliamentary recognition and political representation peaked during the 1970s when the country was experiencing large changes in its economic and social environment. Through activism and pressure groups, women were able to seek recognition in New Zealand s political domain. The change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) eased the access of different political groups to parliament, improving the representation of minority groups such as women that have been under represented in politics. Proportional representation offered new opportunities in terms of policy change through women s political participation. It has, however, been argued that the structure of proportional representation has been a hindrance toward a significant step forward for women s political participation. This essay will discuss to what extent the contribution of women through time, coupled with the shift to a new electoral system in a changing social environment, has been a step forward for women s political participation in New Zealand party politics. The government decided to take an equity stake at GM and thus was facing the possibility that a substantial amount of these funds would never be repaid. The government has already written off or realized losses of over $7 billion as of April 2012[2]. More losses will come as the government sells its remaining stake in GM and Ally Financial. The Treasury Department is even more pessimistic, projecting that, at GM s current stock price, taxpayers will lose $23 billion[4]. This spending greatly benefited the UAW and its members. Without the Administration s intervention, a smaller bailout would have required incumbent UAW members, not just new employees, to accept pay and benefit cuts. It never occurred to me about the importance of why people believed in religion or superstition until I entered high school. Growing up Catholic, it felt like a routine to attend mass every Friday and Sunday because that was what everyone I knew did. I was never that interested in any belief of God, let alone any interest in superstition. I always thought that my religious beliefs tied to my cultural background. Growing up as a second generation of Filipino heritage, life without Christ was looked upon as unbearable, and less motivating to do things in life. It is as if Filipinos needed to breathe with the motivation of God, and become heavily influenced by applying Catholicism to its culture. However, the question about why people believe in religion and superstition is still a mystery to this day. I conducted an interview with a good friend of mine named Andrei. Andrei values humbleness, and during my interview with him, he reminisces about the times when he was a little boy, he and his grandmother would constantly go to the Christian Orthodox Church to pray. The bas reliefs located in the gallery of Angkor Wat holds a special signification for Angkor Wat. The gallery displays heaven and the underworld in which garudas and lions are holding the celestial palaces. These gerudas indicate that the palaces were floating in heaven, comparing Angkor Wat to the palaces of the Gods. This display furthers the idea that Angkor Wat acts as a liason between the world of Heaven and Earth. Because the palace physically remains on earth but spiritually resides within heaven, the palace acts as communal place for believers to gather. The bas reliefs and pictures did not only serve to decorate the palaces, or depict stories of the past. They hold the important task of transforming the palace into a celestial dwelling or heavenly place. Further evidence to support this notion is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Giselle was conceived in 1841 by Gautier specifically for the famous ballerina of the Paris Opera Ballet, Carlotta Grisi. This ballet was a product of the thriving creativity of the 19th century. The classic story tells of a young girl, Giselle, who has caught the eye of two men. As the ballet progresses, Giselle falls in love with one of the men, only to have her heart broken. Because she is weak in health, Giselle dies of heart break and is to become one of the Wilis, a clan of ghostly women who haunt men from beyond their graves. It is obvious that Giselle is from the Romantic era because of the many identifying elements that connect it to Romanticism as well as the historical influences and gender roles that are reflected in the ballet s story. Many elements most commonly associated with Giselle include white romantic tutus, the daunting Wilis, or light, captivating gracefulness of the dancing. This particular ballet has always been easy to identify because of the specific qualities it possesses. Watching Giselle, audiences are always drawn to the charming, gentle nature of Giselle, despite how technically difficult the steps are. The Importance Of Reducing The Intensity Of A Sonic Boom Shawn Merrick Miller Ryan Cilsick Science Research 12/20/16 The importance of reducing the intensity of a sonic boom is essential to making supersonic flight a possibility for passenger aircraft over land. Currently, supersonic flight over land in the US is prohibited by the FAA due to the annoyance associated with the sonicboom to people (observers) on the ground. The advancement of sonic boom reduction could lead to the advancement in the way we travel around the world with amazing speeds. Speeds up to mach 3.3 at 88,000ft (That s nearly 17 miles!) can be achieved in an SR 71 Blackbird, that keep in mind, it was made and introduced in 1966. 50 years later, we have the ability to transport people vast distances and at high speeds safely, but we don t. Why not? Getting up to speed is not the issue in this circumstance, the issue is doing it quietly. It can be said that this problem can be eliminated by making a suborbital transport aircraft, which could be very beneficial, but will still create a sonic boom, and will still, annoy people. At a higher price. Supersonic flight was pioneered by the air force in 1947, when Chuck Yeager became the first man to break the sound barrier. Shortly after, supersonic aircraft research was started. Supersonic cruising aircraft did not begin until the mid 1950 s.
