Museum Observation
I was toured by the docent Ms. Alba Muniz at the Ringling Museum of Art located
in Sarasota, Florida. Asking her and some of the tours many questions, one of the
answers they gave me was that the museum does have a lot of Renaissance, Gothic
and Rococo but the museum is particularly strong in the Baroque period. This
museum was very interesting and exciting to visit. It had featured exhibits such as
Peter Paul Rubens s, The Triumph of the Eucharist Series, Trenton Doyle Hancock
s, What the Bringback Brought, and Builder Levy s, Appalachia USA. These three
exhibits where really compelling and had a strong background to them. For example
Peter Paul Rubens s, The Triumph of the Eucharist Series, was comminsioned by
daughter of King Phillip II in 1625. Her name was Isabella Clara Eugenia and she

A Brief Biography of Alexander Fleming
Alexander Fleming was born on August 6, 1881 to Hugh Fleming and Grace
Morton. His parents shared the same occupation as farmers. He was born on a
rural farm in Lochfield in East Ayrshire Scotland. Alexander or Alec as his family
called him had three siblings Grace, John and Robert. He also had four half
siblings Jane, Hugh, Thomas, and Mary who were from his father s previous
marriage. Alexander s education began at Loudoun Moor School, then he moved
to a larger school called Darvel School. He also moved to Kilmarnock Academy.
After this he relocated to London where he attended Regent Street Polytechnic.
Before starting his medical studies he worked at a shipping office. Alexander
began his medical studies in 1901 at St. Mary s Hospital Medical School at the
University of London. In 1908 he was acknowledged with the gold medal as the
top medical student. After graduating his dream job was to become a surgeon but,
a short term opportunity in the laboratories of the research department at St. Mary s
Hospital. A bacteriologist and immunologist named Sir Almroth Edward Wright
influenced Alexander. Sir Wright had amazing ideas of vaccine therapy that would
create an extraordinary change in the field of medical treatment. After this he
decided to open his own private practice as a venereologist, this was between 1909
and 1914. As a venereologist he became one of the first doctors to use arsphenamie
(Salvarsan) which was given to treat syphilis. The drug was discovered by German

Lift up your arms! My 6th grade teacher ordered. Unwillingly, I stood from my seat
and raised my arms. Naturally, my shirt raised along with it, exposing my midriff.
Dresscoded. I followed her to a drawer in the back of the classroom, the whole
classroom staring, as she pulled out a long, oversized T shirtwith the school logo on
it. It nearly swallowed me whole. The embarrassment of being in the limelight
made my cheeks hot and flushed. When I asked her what I was dress coded for,
she said that my shirt wasn t work appropriate . Irritated, I walked back to my desk
and rejoined my friends to continue our lunch. Suddenly, a boy in our class returned

entire body was sweating, and the long pants and t shirt I was being forced to wear
didn t help. He leaned back in his seat and stretched his arms behind his head. His T
shirt rose up and exposed his stomach, but my teacher said and did nothing. I envied
how attention wasn t being drawn to him because his stomach was exposed. I
Instantly pointed out the double standard. Why is my shirt considered provocative
while his is considered work appropriate if they both expose the same midriff?
