Genocide in Armenia From 1915 to 1923, the Armenians and the Turkish government where involved
in a genocide in the Ottoman Empire. In 1915, leaders of the Turkish government set in motion a plan
to expel and massacre Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire. Most sources agree that there were
about 2 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire at the time of the massacre. By the early 1920s,
when the massacres and deportations finally ended, about 1.5 million of Turkey s Armenians were
dead, with many more forcibly removed from the country. Today, most historians call this event a
genocide a premeditated and systematic campaign to get rid of an entire population. ... Show more

People who stopped to rest were shot. Mesopotamian desert was known as an ancient region in west
Asia. In addition, government of the Ottoman Empire confiscated plenty of Armenian property and
deported Armenians to Syria and Anatolia. Syria was a territory given to France in 1922. Anatolia was
located between the Black and the Mediterranean seas. Many of the Armenians during deportation
died of starvation. Those who survived the deportation witnessed disturbing beatings. Not only were
Armenians being deported but a lot of them were getting publicly killed for no reason. Numerous of

Features Of Athenian Democracy
Background, context and ideas of chosen philosophy
In approximately 550 B.C., democracy came to Athens in Greece. The word Democracy was first
known to be used by Herodotus in 440 B.C.
Athenian Democracy was a system of direct democracy, where participating citizens voted directly on
legislation and executive bills. Although not everyone who lived in Athens could participate in the
democracy. Only male citizens over 18 could take part, and a majority of the population at the time
weren t citizens. Participating in the democratic process came with full time responsibility. According
to Xenophon, most participants had slaves to work for them and some scholars point out that without
slaves, democracy would not have been possible.
Athenian democracy was unique among political structures of the ancient world where the majority
were monarchies where a king or another single ruler had absolute power over everybody else or
shared it with a few selected aristocrats. One of the things that made Athenian democracy unique is
that all free male citizens decided all important questions or actually ruled the country through voting
on an assembly. Military generals were also selected and such. Athenian democracy influenced later
modern democracy through ideas that were picked up by others in Europe mostly in 1700 s such as
Rousseau, Voltaire, Hobbes and others who advocated restriction of absolute monarchy and liberalism.
Key Features of this philosophy (political, economic and

Literary Techniques Used In Rita Dove s This Life
Rita Dove: This Life Talented. Inspiration. Leader. These words all describe a famous poet who is
wise, loving, looked up to, and makes a difference in the world. Rita Frances Dove is an African
American female poet born and raised in Akron, Ohio. Her birthday is August 28, 1952. Dove was a
smart young girl when she found her interest in literature. Not until Dove reached her college years
was when she discovered her unique talent in being an author/poet. Dove s This Life reveals different
elements on how she incorporates her personal life, career, and devices such as tone and imagery into
her wonderful works.

One thing that each of Dove s poems all share is a meaning. For example, Thomas and Beulah
symbolizes her grandparents. Growing up Dove remained positive and enjoyed literature like her
parents enforced. Not knowing that their simple directions would lead her into a positive successful
outcome in her life. Leading her to be able to learn what she loves at three different Universities, and
then teaching students what she loves at Arizona State. The best part is that Dove is able to experience
and share her fame with her daughter and husband. This Life expresses to the reader that having a
perfect life and a significant other is not the key to being happy. Dove shows that in her life as well.
That is why she is such a powerful poet and author to her fans and supporters. She is an example of
what it means to be happy in life. The key to being happy starts with the

The Themes Of Altruism In Night By Elie Wiesel
Altruism is what separates man from beast. Humans as a species differ from the majority of the animal
kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being for the benefit of others. To be human is
to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In Night, Elie Wiesel shows that humanity can be
usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, his sense of altruism
and compassion essentially disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive.
Not yet exposed to the horrors of the concentration camp, Elie enters Birkenau with his innate senses
of compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, Elie witnesses the burning of children,
women, and men alike. In response to this horrific sight, Elie becomes doubtful of the reality of the
situation and questions, How was it possible... that the world kept silent? (32). As seen in the creation
of Night and this question, for Elie, silence is unthinkable. At this point, Elie still holds faith in the
power that people hold. However, there is only hope to save these people, if the silence breaks. In
addition to this thinking, his tone of disbelief contributes to Elie s demonstration of one of man s most
primitive instinct: compassion. This compassion is still strong in Elie, for if it were not, why would he
have questioned this so passionately?
To cope with the oppressive treatment from the concentration camps officials, Elie s innate senses of
compassion and altruism wane. Watching his father subject himself to the beating, Elie s wishes that
his father had not incurred the wrath of Idek, the Kapo. However instead rescuing his father from the
blows, Elie watche[s] it all happening without moving. [He] kept silent. In fact, [he] thought of
stealing away in order not to suffer the blows (54). In his fleeting thoughts of abandoning his father to
deal with the beating alone, Elie is beginning to betray the bonds of family; he is losing the original
compassion and willingness to sacrifice himself that he entered the camp with. Although there is a
suggestion of worry and compassion left in Elie s tone, this is not strong enough to for Elie to forgo
his own safety and wellbeing. In this, Elie has

Avid Life Media Ethical Issues Essay
In the last few years, the number of cyber attacks happening in the world today has increased
significantly and it is something that is not going to go away any time soon. In the most recent case
that has happened, a group called the Impact Team has claimed to have complete access to Avid Life
Media s database for the website Ashley Madison. Throughout this entire case there are very few
things that are ethical and legal. Besides, Avid Life Media pursuing the hackers for stealing private
data, the only other action that I believe falls into this category are users pursuing legal action against
Ashley Madison now for not fully deleting their data. If Ashley Madison had actually deleted most of
their user s data and only kept the metadata, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first one being, the entire business of having a website for people to have affairs on. Although it is
legal to cheat in a relationship, it is morally wrong, marry or not to have an affair because it says
immoral things about your emotional traits and affects your family and social circle. The last portion
of this story that is not surprising is the website is mostly made up of men, so there are many fake
women profiles. Thus many men are not finding a real person to have an affair with. However, it is
legal for Ashley Madison to this because they are bending the truth and have a disclaimer in the terms
of service to protect them from legal action. They don t guarantee you will find a date and you
acknowledge and agree that some of the profiles posted on the site may fictitious. The reason why I
put this topic in this category, is if you re going to promote having affair, why isn t the company all in
on it. It seems like they are just exploiting people in bad relationships and feeding off their emotions.
In contrast, an issue that is ethical but, not legal is Impact Team hacking Ashley Madison, and the
reason why is there is proof from these hacks of Avid Life Media not deleting data that was supposed
to be erased. So, going after a website that does mischievous acts and has a motto that promotes
unethical ideas is ethical, but not legal in the

Volcanic Patterns: There are few volcanoes below about 15 degrees latitude of the Australian Plate.
But, starting at about 15 degrees latitude the volcanoes grow more common. Starting around 90
degrees longitude the volcanoes grow quite dense all the way to 0 degrees latitude.
Earthquake depth patterns: However, much like with the volcanoes, starting a little distance after 90
degrees longitude and to about 0 degrees latitude the earthquakes grow very dense and there is a
combination of a few severe, some middling, and some small quakes. The earthquakes on the

The Whitsundays are protected by the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. To fully understand
how this collection of islands came to be you need look far back in time to when the The Whitsundays
islands as we know them today were not in existence. Over 100 million years ago volcanoes were very
active in breaking what we know as Australia off from New Zealand, Africa, India, and other a few
other countries/continents that formed a supercontinent (Queensland Government Department of
National Parks, 2015). These volcanoes tossed up stone and ash for many years, which settled down
on already existing land masses and helped to form a solid bedrock, which in turn formed into dark
green rock, turned green by erosion of the ocean waves on the originally black bedrock (Queensland
Government Department of National Parks, 2015). During this time of a lot of volcanic activity the
earth s plates were moving, colliding, and breaking and this movement lead to a mountain range, that
would be known as the Whitsundays islands, being broken off from the Australian continent.
Eventually this range of mountains broke apart and formed the continental (once part of a continent)
Whitsunday islands (Queensland Government Department of National Parks, 2015). If you look at a
map of recent volcanic activity on the Australian plate today there seem to be no volcanoes in the area
of the Whitsunday islands and no earthquakes, indicating that for the moment these islands will

Gustav Holst s The Planets
Gustav Holst was a British composer born in Cheltenham in 1874. The Planets nearly took Gustav two
years to compose because he had other jobs on the side, like teaching, which he did almost his entire
life. He believed that The Planets wasn t his best works, though it was an immediate success. Along
with the success of The Planets his work load and his stress levels also rose. In 1924 he was ordered to
take a break, by his doctor, in the country where he could compose his music without any problems or
other stresses. Gustav Holst died on the 25th of May 1934 of congestive heart failure. The live
performance of The Planets that I observed was conducted by Maciej Tarnowski. He started

The hall was very well lit the whole time during the performance. I expected for the hall to be dimmed
just to make the room feel more intimate, but I guess I had a bias idea of what a classical performance
should look like. I found the venue to be small compared to what o was anticipating. The walls to the
venue seemed to be made out of a white marble and it had a huge beautiful organ as the back drop.
There were also two balconies, one in each side of the room, and a large chandelier in the middle that
shined on the orchestra below. The venue could probably be classified as a warm/ friendly
environment.
The attire of the orchestra was the usual black and white tux for men and the black dressy dresses for
the ladies. Being that it was a classical music event, I didn t see anything out of the ordinary with the
outfits and the colors didn t call my attention in any way either. It was the normal, expected look that
you would see for these type of performers to have. I saw a few lace dresses, some had embroidery,
and others were just plain black dresses. As for the men they looked like copies of one another. They
had the same bow tie, same dress shirt and the same suit

Analysis Of Whale Done By Ken Blanchard
The book, Whale Done, written by Ken Blanchard, exemplifies how a business manager named Wes
Kinsley learns the key to managing relationships while on a trip to SeaWorld. Kinsley uncovers the
secret to managing positive relationships with people by witnessing how trainers at SeaWorld receive
incredible responses from their whales by highlighting their positive behaviour, and ignoring or
redirecting their negative behaviours. In the book, Blanchard contrasts the GOTcha manager, one who
seeks to only accentuate the negative properties of individuals actions with the WHALE DONE
manager, who highlights and tries to reinforce positive behaviour. The goal of Blanchard is for readers
to understand the application of the Whale Done! management ... Show more content on

However, Blanchard fails to discuss the importance of negative responses in communication. Negative
responses are useful in order to keep workers inline and stopping them from breaking rules. It can be
necessary in many situations; however, managers of today still abuse negative responses. There are
examples of modern day managers using negative responses and finding success. For example, John
Tortorella, the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League has found
success from yelling at players and criticizing them, but he actually went on to win the Stanley Cup in
2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightning, winning the Jacks Adam award for attributing the most to his
teams success. (Cooper, 2015). He is often seen as a villain in the hockey community, but his success
is clearly attributable to his negative responses and negative attitude. This tough relationship he has
with his players must improve their play because he has been a coach on and off in the league since
2001. Blanchard s ideologies clearly go against everything John Tortorella stands for, but there is no
denying his success. This style of management can be successful in some places, and modern
managers have to understand when to apply this style. Clearly Blanchard s methods are successful, but

I was kind of surprised by the numbers because I have never studied my daily intakes before and they
are showing that I eat a lot of carbohydrates. Macronutrients are relatively needed in large amounts. I
had consumed a vast quantity of these nutrients during my three day period. For example, 21 water
bottles along with the above mentioned proteins, carbohydrates and lipids. Micronutrient Intake
Ranges Macronutrients are an important part of your daily intake since they provide the body with
calories and energy. These nutrients are needed for metabolism and growth of the body. The three
macronutrients are carbohydrates, protein, and fat (McKinley Health Center, 2008). It is important to
that macronutrient intake be within the recommended intake range. Having a diet that consists of too
much or too little of a macronutrient could be harmful to the body. If you eat too many
macronutrients, you could gain fat and if you eat too little macronutrients you could lose healthy fat,
which would cause the body to break down. If you consistently eat too little protein, carbohydrates, or
lipids, the body would be malnourished, which could have devastating effects on your health. Fiber
Intake Ranges My fiber intake was 41.1% of the recommended daily intake. I definitely feel that my
fiber intake over the three days is about right. Fiber is an important part of a diet and a male such as
me should consume 38 grams of fiber each

Effects of pH on Enzyme Activity
Aim
To investigate the effects of pH on enzyme activity
Research question
To what will pH levels 1,7,12 affect the rate at which liver catalase catalyzes the decomposition of
10ml of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to water (H2O) and oxygen (O2) exemplified by the volume of
foam reached in 1 minute
Hypothesis
Since the optimum pH of liver catalase is approximately 7. I expect the greatest volume of foam to be
achieved at pH of 7 because it is the optimum pH of liver catalase. I also expect to see lower
maximum volumes of foam in pHs 1 and 12
Variables
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE pH (1,7,12) (acidic pHs will be made by diluting concentrated HCL,
alkaline pHs will be made by diluting concentrated NaOH and a neutral pH will come from distilled
water alone)
DEPENDANT VARIABLE
Volume of foam (when H2O2 decomposes it forms H2O and O2 when the oxygen combines with the
foaming agent it produces foam )
Reaction:
H2O2(aq) → H2O (l) + O2 (g)
Controlled variables
What is controlled Method of control Why it is controlled
Temperature Temperature will be controlled but turning of the AC and the fans closing the windows
and the door during the experiment, also a insulating mat will be placed underneath the reaction vessel
Temperature must be controlled as it has a capability to affect the rate at which the enzyme will
catalyze a reaction. It does this by supplying or taking away the enzymes and the substrate molecules
with kinetic energy which

To An Athlete Dying Young, by A.E. Houseman and Crossing...
To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Houseman and Crossing The Bar by Alfred, Lord Tennyson are
poems that very similar to each other yet so different. To An Athlete Dying Young is about an athlete
who dies young and Houseman congratulates him because people will remember him forever.
Crossing the Bar is about Tennyson realizing that he is about to die and he accepts his fate. Both
poems have a similar theme of death. Both authors make clever uses of symbols such as, in To An
Athlete Dying Young, Tennyson uses a laurel plant, and a rose plant to symbolize the athlete s
accomplishments. In Crossing the Bar , Tennyson uses the sandbar to symbolize the crossing over.
However, the rhyme scheme of these poems is different. Houseman ... Show more content on

He knows that his time is coming soon but Tennyson does not want anyone to be sad because he is
going to see his pilot face to face (15). Death gives him a chance to traverse through the threshold of
life and into the afterlife. Tennyson does not think that death is the end, but a beginning because his
spirit will live on with god. He wants death to free him from his hollow shell of a body. He sees death
as a way to reach god and conveys the message that people should not fear death. Tennyson s view of
death is similar to that of Houseman s because they both feel that death is not something to mourn
over. Houseman believes that since the athlete dies very young, he will forever be remembered by
people for what he accomplished. Tennyson believes in death in which he tells people to be glad that
death has given him a chance to see god. Furthermore, both of these poems make clever uses of
symbols. In To An Athlete Dying Young, Houseman uses plants such as the laurel and the rose to
describe an athlete s accomplishments. In line 11 12 he says and early through the laurel grows/it

victory and courage. Houseman uses the laurel to signify the young

The Performance Of Tone Mapping
3 PREVIOUS WORK
Because of the great interest of HDR images and their advantages, tone mapping techniques are used
to display these images on LDR devices. Many researchers made different studies for evaluating the
performance of tone mapping algorithms. Debevec and Malik proposed that a HDR image can be
created from three or more LDR images of the same scene under different exposures. Through
technological advances and the development of photograph technology, we can get access to HDR
cameras which can take HDR photos and videos directly now. Therefore, there is an increasing
demand for tone mapping algorithms. There are two types of tone mapping algorithm: global
operators and local operators. The global tone mapping methods are simply mapped the input HDR
image I^h (x,y) to an output LDR image I^l (x,y) = f (I^h (x,y)) , where f () is a global compression
function which is spatially invariant, such as gamma function, linear function, histogram based
function and the function adapted to tone reproduction curves. Hence, the local tone mapping methods
decompose the input HDR image into multiple layers or areas, apply different compressing algorithm
in different layers or areas and recombine all the layers or areas into a LDR image. Similar with
Durand, Farbman which segmented the HDR image into two layer a base layer and a detail layer,
while the base layer is obtained by applying an alternative edge reserving smoothing operator and the
detail layer is obtained by

Emotional Causes In The Necklace By Edgar Allen Poe
You re walking around your house one day and you realize how shabby it is, you also realize the color
is beginning to diminish because it s very old, so you start noticing all the things you can t afford and
don t have, like fancy dresses. Noticing all of these things eventually produces an anger and sadness
inside of you that will drive you to make bad decisions and eventually cause you to get involved in a
conflict that will seem unescapable, then to only find out that this conflict was meaningless, this is
precisely what happens to Madame Loisel in the story The Necklace by Edgar Allen Poe. When
Madame Loisel does this she begins to show very negative signs like consistent complaining and
ungratefulness for anything that she deems poor . Without a doubt though, these horrid traits
eventually diminished when her consistent complaining and begging got her a false necklace she
would eventually lose and have to pay in debt, which made her work for the things she wanted. Our
beloved Madame Loisel also had her moments of extreme euphoria that even made me feel joyous
too, this extreme euphoria occurs when she finally got the ability to get her hands on a fancy dress and
a very deceiving jewel necklace. In Conclusion, this story is mainly about Madame Loisel a woman
with an attitude of a spoiled brat that learns a lesson the hard way. Throughout the story we obviously

The Movie The Star Spangled Banner
Since the early 1900s, the playing of The Star Spangled Banner is an opportunity for citizens to honor
their country and reflect on the great liberties that they are afforded. It sounds simple but the anthem
has become complicated. This is America 2016, a time where police officers are getting away with
murder and a businessman is elected as our president. When the quarterback of the San Francisco
49ers Colin Kaepernick decided to not stand for the playing of the national anthem in the pre season
game of the NFL, he was the first athlete to vividly illustrate his outrage over the police brutality
stirring within the American population. His actions have led to a wave of athlete protests who are
joining to exercise their constitutional rights and help fight against an issue bigger than sports.
However, there are many citizens attacking the silent protests with violent threats and are calling the
participants disrespectful. While the controversy has centered on the playing of The Star Spangled
Banner, it has been overlooked that the problem is really with the entire country and the cultural
divisions that exist in today s society. Although many patriotic fans are criticizing and denouncing his
actions, Kaepernick and many other protesters are making a difference by standing against the
oppression of minorities and social injustices that are gripping our nation. After Kaepernick protested
against the national anthem, it inspired many athletes to join his silent actions.

A Critical Appraisal of the Components of Taxation in...
INTRODUCTION
Tax has been variously defined over the years. These definitions, when looked at as a whole gives a
more comprehensive picture of the phenomenon as opposed to a single definition. According to the
Oxford English Dictionary the word ‘tax refers to a compulsory contribution to the support of
government levied on persons, property, income, commodities, transactions, etc, now at a fixed rate
mostly proportionate to the amount on which the contribution is levied. While this serves in crude
terms to tell us what a tax is, it is however deficient in the sense that it does not reveal the purpose of
taxation. We however find more scholarly definitions in decided cases. For instance, in MATTHEWS
v. CHICORY MARKETING BOARD it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Various tax statutes all contain charging clauses. Under the PITA, this is found in S 1 which provides
thus:
There is hereby imposed a tax on the income of individuals, communities and families, and arising to
any trustee or executor under any settlement, trust or estate
In respect of the CITA, S 8 provides the charging clause thus:
Subject to the provisions of this Act, the tax shall, for each year of assessment , be payable at the rate
specified in subsection (1) of section 29 of this Act upon the profits of any company accruing in,
derived from, or brought into, or received in Nigeria
In the case of the VAT ACT, the charging clause is contained in S 1(1) where it is provided that:
There is hereby imposed and charged a tax to be known as the Value Added Tax which shall be
administered according to the provisions of this Act.
The effect of these provisions is to make a taxpayer liable to taxation. In reality, tax is a creation of
statute and there is no of common law or equity that makes a man liable to tax. Therefore, from time
to time whenever a dispute arises between the relevant tax authority and the taxpayer, there is a need
to establish a judicial construction of any particular provision of a tax statute. In construing the words
of a statute, the onus is on the tax authority to prove the intention of the legislature from the wordings
of the statute. Where the

Global Supply Chain Management Simulation Essay
Summary of Global Supply Chain Management Simulation I enjoyed the Global Supply Chain
Management Simulation (GSCM). It was exciting to be a Manager of the supply chain of a mobile
phone manufacturer. I learned very quickly the pressures of running such a large operation. In this
review, I will discuss lessons learned regarding conceptions shown in the simulation. I will explain
how if completing the simulation again, what I would complete differently. In conclusion, I will talk
about my key overall takeaways from this exercise.
Year One
In Year 1 while in the Design room, I chose the Wifi and Stylish options. My intuitive thoughts were
consumer based and not supplier driven. However, these combined options offered an estimated
favorable profit for the company. While forecasting I chose to forecast below average for Model A and
above average for Model B. Again, my decision making was consumer driven and I as a consumer
would prefer a stylish mobile device over a base model, therefore estimated demand at a higher level.
In choosing suppliers in Year 1, key drivers were lead times, setup and unit carrying costs, and
capacity. The decision were also based off of my forecast for each model. I learned quickly as each
month passed, I was out of inventory therefore, making a costly $2.0MM adjustment with one of my

Errors and Omissions Insurance: A Realtor s Must Have
No one s perfect. No matter how carefully realtors do their jobs provide training, conduct thorough
research, put a variety of controls in place, and accumulate years, even decades of experience mistakes
happen.
In addition, realtors can t possibly control everything their agents do and say all the time. For
example:
An agent sells the wrong lot of land
An agent fails to follow up on an email that includes an inspection report. The lack of oversight results
in a suit that was three times the purchase price of the home.
An agent flees the state after making a deal, leaving the clients and the realty company in trouble.
Worse still, frivolous claims can be made against an agency. Even from those unfounded or frivolous
claims, legal expenses must be paid no matter who wins in court, and those costs can be devastating to
a realtor s time and finances.

Outside The Box Thinker
Christopher Columbus, whom was born in 1451 in Geno, Italy, became to be known among history s
greatest explorers . He was a son of a weaver and started sailing as a teenager. In the year 1492, he set
off to begin his first voyage to establish an oceanic trade route between Europe and the Eastern Indies.
However, instead of reaching any Asian countries he had landed in a place that he called San Salvador
. Nonetheless by the end of his sailing career, he had accomplished 4 voyages to establish a settlement
across the Atlantic Ocean and sailed to various other parts of the globe establishing territory for the
Crown of Castille. I believe Columbus is a perfect example of an outside the box thinker because he

At a young age, he was taught by his father, Johnan Van Beethovan, along with conductor, Christian
Neefe and began displaying his musical abilities. However by the age of 30, his hearing began to

of an excellent outside the box thinker is Beethoven. By the end of his life, he had developed 67
compositions some of which he made near complete deafness. It is also said his best influential works
comes from the last 15 years of his lifetime. Constantine The Great, was born in 272 AD, was
recognized as highly influential emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 306 to 337 AD. He rose
through the ranks eventually became the Holy Roman s emperor to campaign under his father. After
his father death, he became victorious in the battle to overtake the other remain emperors. He then
became the sole ruler of the Eastern and western Rome by 324AD. As Rome s sole leader, he began
many reforms to further develop the growth of the empire, became the first emperor to convert to
Christianity, and reorganized his own military. He then pursued to capture abandoned territory
abandoned by his predecessors. After the completion of his conquests, he moved the Rome s capital to
Byzantium and renamed it after himself. Because of all he had done, his reputation reigned even after

Tax Revenue Is The Source Of Funding For Public Education
Tax revenue is the source of funding for public education. Taxes can be progressive or regressive,
depending on its impact on the taxpayer. A progressive tax is one in which the tax rate increases as
income does. The federal income tax structure is an example of a progressive tax. A Regressive tax is
one in which the tax rate is uniform and therefore, the regressive tax takes a larger percentage of
available funds from lower income individuals than from higher income individuals. Sales tax is an
example of a regressive tax. There are five local sources of income that schools rely on for revenue,
and there are advantages and disadvantages to each with respect to equity, yield, and acceptance.

23). One major difficulty with property tax is the valuation process itself. Sorenson and Goldsmith list
homestead exemptions, tax abatements, legal entanglements, taxpayer associations and
underassessments as reasons that taxes are not based on the full property value (p.23). In terms of
school funding, schools in wealthier communities are at an advantage over schools in economically
depressed areas, where property values are much lower. Sales tax is regressive in nature, and
dependent on taxpayers having enough confidence in the economy to spend their money. Sales tax is a
consistent form of revenue for school funding, however the yield is inconsistent as the tax is not
collected unless merchandise is purchased. Like the sales tax, the sin or sumptuary tax has an elastic
yield and is only as stable as the economy. The sin tax applies to tobacco, alcohol and gambling, and is
not considered a reliable source of public school funding (Sorenson Goldsmith, p. 23 2013). Sorenson
and Goldsmith describe the lottery as an assessment on legal gambling, and closely related to a sin tax.
The public perception is that a state lottery is an excellent source of funding for state education
programs, the reality is that the the lottery does nothing to fund educational initiatives. In fact, there is
no evidence that any state lottery has significantly supported or benefitted any school district or, for
that matter, public education in

Engineers in the R D department are creating a product with must have features for which (as the
marketing group could have told them) customers will not pay; the sales force is selling customers on
quick turnaround times and customized offerings even though the manufacturing group has just
invested in equipment designed for long production runs; and so on. If you pass a magnet over those
filings, what happens? They line up. Similarly, a well understood statement of strategy aligns behavior
within the business. It allows everyone in the organization to make individual choices that reinforce
one another, rendering those 10,000 employees exponentially more effective. What goes into a good
statement of strategy? Michael Porter s seminal article What Is Strategy? (HBR November December
1996) lays out the characteristics of strategy in a conceptual fashion, conveying the essence of
strategic choices and distinguishing them from the relentless but competitively fruitless search for
operational efficiency. However, we have found in our work both with executives and with students
that Porter s article does not answer the more basic question of how to describe a particular firm s
strategy. It is a dirty little secret that most executives don t actually know what all the elements of
a strategy statement are, which makes it impossible for them to develop one. With

Ariana Grande s Dangerous Woman
The boldest statement off Ariana Grande s Dangerous Woman comes not from Ariri, but from Nicki
Minaj: I m the queen of rap, young Ariana run pop . While Nicki s status as the head woman of
modern rap is pretty solid, it does tell a lot about Ariana Grande s ambitions for her third album. Many
ex teen pop idols tried to break their image through shock tactics in the past (see; Britney Spears,
Christina Aguilera and Miley Cyrus). Meanwhile, Ariana s evolution has been more subtle since
leaving the Nickelodeon powerhouse. 2014 s My Everything made a point to make her look like a
serious, grown up artist and if Dangerous Woman is her attempt at becoming a sex symbol, it is done
in a very classy way.
Ariana s lyrics do touch on some slightly risqué ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes recalls Stargate circa 2007 with its acoustic guitar loop mixed with hip hop beats. Trap
elements aside, Let Me Love You could pass as a Destiny s Child b side. Most of those suits seem to
fit well on Ariana, though with 15 tracks, many of these experiments end up pretty forgettable. It s
hard to find songs in here that have the same instant appeal as Problem or Break Free, if it s not for
Into You. Produced by top 40 hero Max Martin, Into You leaves aside the horns and trades them for a
full bucket of synths and electronic rhythms. It also features a Mariah Carey reference in the chorus (
A little less conversation/A little more touch my body ); the kind of self conscious wink pop music
offers too rarely. The result is far better than the slightly awkward attempts of Bad Decisions or the
over opulent Greedy and its corny key change. Other songs like Be Alright feel like it s trying to be a
banger but ends up a little empty. It s a shame, because on an album that often seems to be playing it a
bit safe, these more audacious attempts could ve greatly improve the overall quality of it.
At the end of the day, Dangerous Woman might not have what it takes to make Ariana the Queen of
pop once and for all. But tracks like Into You, Everyday or Leave Me Lonely makes it seem like she
might have what it takes to stay in the long run. If she keeps releasing great songs like this one at a
regular pace, she will have enough munitions to become a mainstay of pop music for years to come,
even if she can t keep the pace on an entire

Technology And Design Of The Kodak Camera
Introduction A camera can simply be described as an imaging device or a tool used to record images in
form of a film, photograph or video (Paul, Bon and Benjamin, 2014). As a passionate photographer, I
carry a camera wherever I go since I believe there is always something special to capture; an emotion,
a beautiful creation or a unique event. The Kodak camera is my favorite brand. Every year, the Kodak
Company releases a better lensed camera featuring better technology and design. In the process, there
is always the need to replace my device with one that can perform better an effectively. By replacing
an older version, I always had to trash the older one in my room. This called for a better trashing
method since these gadgets would crowd ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would adjust the my father s collar before he left the house, note the stain on my mother s cutlery, the
sweat rolling down my friend s face during the cycling competitions and even the splashing droplets
whenever it rained.
At this point, the Kodak 35 I had received from my father as a gift during my eighth birthday was no
longer effective. I needed an upgrade and therefore decided to conduct an online research for one that
would perform better. During my research, I made two conflicting realizations. First, the Kodak
Company had begun developing digital cameras but the company was also facing the risk of
bankruptcy due to low sales. Nonetheless, I was able to upgrade to the Kodak DC25 digital camera.
Although it came at a high price, it was an opportunity to improve the quality of my pictures.
By the time I was getting to my middle teenage years, I had used four different types of cameras. Out
of the three cameras, two were Kodak (already mentioned) while the rest were the Canon IXY Digital
and the Nikon Coolpix 2000. All these were quality brands that took my photography skills to a higher
level. Today, there are more advance versions of each brand. With increasing completion among the
camera manufacturers, it may be difficult to settle for a specific camera. Whenever I want to buy a
camera, I analyze the camera resolution and durability. Today, I use the Kodak AZ362 which

Stereotypes In Mother Tongue By Amy Tan
Amy Tan, in her text, Mother Tongue, also acknowledges how names can hold people back, as well as
analyzing how the stereotypes created from these names can affect opportunities. She describes the
challenges she faces being of Chinese descent, and the stereotypes she has to overcome that stand in
her way. She wonders why so many Asian students go into math and science career fields, and
speculates if others steer them in that direction because they assume those are careers Asians are
naturally good at. Tan questions, Why are there few Asian Americans enrolled in creative writing
programs? Why do so many Chinese students go into engineering? These students are being pushed in
this direction based off of stereotypes about their race and language. ... Show more content on

James Baldwin, in his newspaper article, If Black English Isn t a Language, Then Tell me, What is?,
discusses the importance of language in the social world. He states that language connects one with, or
divorces one from, the larger, public, or communal identity. The name Redskins is pushed into the
conversation of the public, for it is the title of a popular sports team and discussed frequently. The
NFL is a part of the public discourse, for it is a major professional sports league, and a significant
element in America s culture. It has a sway with the public, for we know this national sport as our
nation s pastime sport: it captures our country s attention. Removing the Redskins name from football
would therefore contribute to its disappearance in the language world, for the NFL s influence over the
public is significant. It would stop promoting this demeaning language, and get it out of the public

Fashion Imagery Research Paper
We have expressions which refer to the idea that we may experience time as subjectively happening at
different speeds. For example, A watched pot never boils. But, we generally take the view that,
objectively, an hour is an hour is an hour and all things move forward at the same pace.
Yet, in fiction, time passing at different rates is a relatively common concept. Perhaps this intrigues us
because of real world experiences which fit that concept in some sense.
When you look at signs and symbols, a common phenomenon is that imagery initially comes from real
world items in a relatively literal manner but, over time, the symbols are kept even though technology
moves on and the thing it refers to is no longer in use. Here are a couple of ... Show more content on

Particularly in recent years, comic book publishers have tended to adopt a model where each monthly
issue of the book in question is a single installment of a longer story arc; for instance, a six issue story
arc where Batman takes on the Joker may only equal one night in the actual passage of time. Despite
this, the story has taken up half a year of real time . This, naturally, is going to affect both how quickly
you can develop the overall narrative and how contemporary you can make it. However, all characters

Dwight D. Eisenhower s Leadership During World War II
This world of ours . . . must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a
proud confederation of mutual trust and respect ( Dwight D. Eisenhower ). As a military leader during
World War II, Dwight D. Eisenhower understood the importance of mutual trust and respect which
allowed him to thrive as a leader. Consequently, Eisenhower was the most influential leader: he helped
make decisions in Washington during the beginning of the war, he helped plan invasions on multiple
fronts, he had all the right qualities of a leader with many following his command, and despite the
amount of influence Hitler had, Eisenhower was more influential being able to win the war for the
Allied Forces. Before the United States started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stephen E. Ambrose quotes Sergeant Major Claude Harris who says, Despite [Eisenhower s] youth, he
possessed a high understanding of organization . . . This principle built for him high admiration and
loyalty from his officers perhaps unequaled by few commanding officers. Strong leaders need respect
and loyalty to get people to follow them. Eisenhower was one of few who had both qualities. This
allowed him to gain the trust of thousands. Having people who followed his command openly,
willingly, and easily allowed Eisenhower to influence multiple decisions. After the decisions were
made, the trust, loyalty, and respect Eisenhower had coming from those who were affected by the
decisions allowed Eisenhower to remain influential with the people continually following his
commands. For example, when Eisenhower ordered a soldier to hold a position, the soldier would not
willingly surrender unlike some soldiers during the war. He also understood what was happening and
the fallout certain decisions could cause in a way that gave him the ability to make calls that boosted
the Allies. With every good call he made came the opportunity to make another decision. Eisenhower
s qualities made him a leader with a lot of influence during the

what people consider to be appropriate punishment. It seems to reek of hypocrisy that we punish
people for killing yet kill them as a measure of justice .
______________________________
A Governing force/state able to choose whether a human being lives or dies is quite an intimidating
idea; the state s power deliberately to destroy innocuous (though guilty) life is a manifestation of the
hidden wish that the state be allowed to do anything it pleases with life George Kateb, The Inner
Ocean 1992 Couple that with the fact that the Government could potentially use the death penalty to it
s own benefit is a scary combo. In a study called Deterrence and the Death Penalty: The Views of the

techniques, and makes for statistics that shouldn t be that way. The death penalty shouldn t be used to

force that has control over whether it s citizens live or die sounds like some horror stories of the past
e.g Soviet Union, or recently North Korea and doesn t sound like any democratic country I d want to
live in. All it takes for the death penalty to be abused or warped to kill innocent people is one or two

Bandura Social Influence
Social influence contains the ability to change the way a person reacts to a situation. An individual can
adapt to a situation based on their surroundings. This type of influence begins as early as childhood
when the mind is most vulnerable to learning. To test the vulnerability of a child s mind, an
experiment was conducted by Bandura, who theorized the process of social learning. In the study, 36
boys and girls of ages three to six were observed after they viewed a video on a model aggressively
attacking a Bobo doll. After the children observed the aggressive model, the children imitated similar
actions. According to the results, Children learn social behavior such as aggression through the

When they were interviewed after the experiment, most of them said they did not really believe their
conforming answers, but had gone along with the group for fear of being ridiculed or thought peculiar
(McLeod). The participants complied with the majority against their correct judgment to not stand out,
or because they felt less informed compared to the rest of the group. As a result of approving the
erroneous answer, it can negatively impact society. For example, in the 1950s, the United States was
in a time of fear of communism, and people were wrongly accused of being a communist (McLeod).
Nevertheless, no individuals carried the bravery to speak out against the wrongdoing in fear of
accusation. If the United States were to repeat events like the 1950s, communal influence can
overpower the rationality of the people. In both the Bobo doll experiment and the conformity
experiment, the studies expose the true power of social influence; it possesses the ability to encourage
an individual to act a certain way in different

Genocide In Armenia Brenda Cantu Colleen Brooks English 1301.P28 12 December 2016 Genocide in Armenia From 1915 to 1923, the Armenians and the Turkish government where involved in a genocide in the Ottoman Empire. In 1915, leaders of the Turkish government set in motion a plan to expel and massacre Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire. Most sources agree that there were about 2 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire at the time of the massacre. By the early 1920s, when the massacres and deportations finally ended, about 1.5 million of Turkey s Armenians were dead, with many more forcibly removed from the country. • 3. Features Of Athenian Democracy Background, context and ideas of chosen philosophy In approximately 550 B.C., democracy came to Athens in Greece. The word Democracy was first known to be used by Herodotus in 440 B.C. Athenian Democracy was a system of direct democracy, where participating citizens voted directly on legislation and executive bills. Although not everyone who lived in Athens could participate in the democracy. Only male citizens over 18 could take part, and a majority of the population at the time weren t citizens. Participating in the democratic process came with full time responsibility. According to Xenophon, most participants had slaves to work for them and some scholars point out that without slaves, democracy would not have been possible. Athenian democracy was unique among political structures of the ancient world where the majority were monarchies where a king or another single ruler had absolute power over everybody else or shared it with a few selected aristocrats. One of the things that made Athenian democracy unique is that all free male citizens decided all important questions or actually ruled the country through voting on an assembly. Military generals were also selected and such. Athenian democracy influenced later modern democracy through ideas that were picked up by others in Europe mostly in 1700 s such as Rousseau, Voltaire, Hobbes and others who advocated restriction of absolute monarchy and liberalism. Key Features of this philosophy (political, economic and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Themes Of Altruism In Night By Elie Wiesel Altruism is what separates man from beast. Humans as a species differ from the majority of the animal kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being for the benefit of others. To be human is to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In Night, Elie Wiesel shows that humanity can be usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, his sense of altruism and compassion essentially disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive. Not yet exposed to the horrors of the concentration camp, Elie enters Birkenau with his innate senses of compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, Elie witnesses the burning of children, women, and men alike. In response to this horrific sight, Elie becomes doubtful of the reality of the situation and questions, How was it possible... that the world kept silent? (32). As seen in the creation of Night and this question, for Elie, silence is unthinkable. At this point, Elie still holds faith in the power that people hold. However, there is only hope to save these people, if the silence breaks. In addition to this thinking, his tone of disbelief contributes to Elie s demonstration of one of man s most primitive instinct: compassion. This compassion is still strong in Elie, for if it were not, why would he have questioned this so passionately? To cope with the oppressive treatment from the concentration camps officials, Elie s innate senses of compassion and altruism wane. Watching his father subject himself to the beating, Elie s wishes that his father had not incurred the wrath of Idek, the Kapo. However instead rescuing his father from the blows, Elie watche[s] it all happening without moving. [He] kept silent. In fact, [he] thought of stealing away in order not to suffer the blows (54). In his fleeting thoughts of abandoning his father to deal with the beating alone, Elie is beginning to betray the bonds of family; he is losing the original compassion and willingness to sacrifice himself that he entered the camp with. Although there is a suggestion of worry and compassion left in Elie s tone, this is not strong enough to for Elie to forgo his own safety and wellbeing. In this, Elie has ... The last portion of this story that is not surprising is the website is mostly made up of men, so there are many fake women profiles. Thus many men are not finding a real person to have an affair with. However, it is legal for Ashley Madison to this because they are bending the truth and have a disclaimer in the terms of service to protect them from legal action. The Whitsundays are protected by the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. To fully understand how this collection of islands came to be you need look far back in time to when the The Whitsundays islands as we know them today were not in existence. Over 100 million years ago volcanoes were very active in breaking what we know as Australia off from New Zealand, Africa, India, and other a few other countries/continents that formed a supercontinent (Queensland Government Department of National Parks, 2015). These volcanoes tossed up stone and ash for many years, which settled down on already existing land masses and helped to form a solid bedrock, which in turn formed into dark green rock, turned green by erosion of the ocean waves on the originally black bedrock (Queensland Government Department of National Parks, 2015). During this time of a lot of volcanic activity the earth s plates were moving, colliding, and breaking and this movement lead to a mountain range, that would be known as the Whitsundays islands, being broken off from the Australian continent. Eventually this range of mountains broke apart and formed the continental (once part of a continent) Whitsunday islands (Queensland Government Department of National Parks, 2015). However, Blanchard fails to discuss the importance of negative responses in communication. Negative responses are useful in order to keep workers inline and stopping them from breaking rules. It can be necessary in many situations; however, managers of today still abuse negative responses. There are examples of modern day managers using negative responses and finding success. For example, John Tortorella, the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League has found success from yelling at players and criticizing them, but he actually went on to win the Stanley Cup in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightning, winning the Jacks Adam award for attributing the most to his teams success. (Cooper, 2015). He is often seen as a villain in the hockey community, but his success is clearly attributable to his negative responses and negative attitude. This tough relationship he has with his players must improve their play because he has been a coach on and off in the league since 2001. Blanchard s ideologies clearly go against everything John Tortorella stands for, but there is no denying his success. This style of management can be successful in some places, and modern managers have to understand when to apply this style. Clearly Blanchard s methods are successful, but so are ... Micronutrient Intake Ranges Macronutrients are an important part of your daily intake since they provide the body with calories and energy. These nutrients are needed for metabolism and growth of the body. The three macronutrients are carbohydrates, protein, and fat (McKinley Health Center, 2008). It is important to that macronutrient intake be within the recommended intake range. Having a diet that consists of too much or too little of a macronutrient could be harmful to the body. If you eat too many macronutrients, you could gain fat and if you eat too little macronutrients you could lose healthy fat, which would cause the body to break down. If you consistently eat too little protein, carbohydrates, or lipids, the body would be malnourished, which could have devastating effects on your health. I also expect to see lower maximum volumes of foam in pHs 1 and 12 Variables INDEPENDENT VARIABLE pH (1,7,12) (acidic pHs will be made by diluting concentrated HCL, alkaline pHs will be made by diluting concentrated NaOH and a neutral pH will come from distilled water alone) DEPENDANT VARIABLE Volume of foam (when H2O2 decomposes it forms H2O and O2 when the oxygen combines with the foaming agent it produces foam ) Reaction: H2O2(aq) → H2O (l) + O2 (g) Controlled variables What is controlled Method of control Why it is controlled Temperature Temperature will be controlled but turning of the AC and the fans closing the windows and the door during the experiment, also a insulating mat will be placed underneath the reaction vessel Temperature must be controlled as it has a capability to affect the rate at which the enzyme will catalyze a reaction. He wants death to free him from his hollow shell of a body. He sees death as a way to reach god and conveys the message that people should not fear death. Tennyson s view of death is similar to that of Houseman s because they both feel that death is not something to mourn over. Houseman believes that since the athlete dies very young, he will forever be remembered by people for what he accomplished. Tennyson believes in death in which he tells people to be glad that death has given him a chance to see god. Furthermore, both of these poems make clever uses of symbols. • 16. The Performance Of Tone Mapping 3 PREVIOUS WORK Because of the great interest of HDR images and their advantages, tone mapping techniques are used to display these images on LDR devices. Many researchers made different studies for evaluating the performance of tone mapping algorithms. Debevec and Malik proposed that a HDR image can be created from three or more LDR images of the same scene under different exposures. Through technological advances and the development of photograph technology, we can get access to HDR cameras which can take HDR photos and videos directly now. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for tone mapping algorithms. There are two types of tone mapping algorithm: global operators and local operators. The global tone mapping methods are simply mapped the input HDR image I^h (x,y) to an output LDR image I^l (x,y) = f (I^h (x,y)) , where f () is a global compression function which is spatially invariant, such as gamma function, linear function, histogram based function and the function adapted to tone reproduction curves. Hence, the local tone mapping methods decompose the input HDR image into multiple layers or areas, apply different compressing algorithm in different layers or areas and recombine all the layers or areas into a LDR image. Similar with Durand, Farbman which segmented the HDR image into two layer a base layer and a detail layer, while the base layer is obtained by applying an alternative edge reserving smoothing operator and the detail layer is obtained by ... Emotional Causes In The Necklace By Edgar Allen Poe You re walking around your house one day and you realize how shabby it is, you also realize the color is beginning to diminish because it s very old, so you start noticing all the things you can t afford and don t have, like fancy dresses. Noticing all of these things eventually produces an anger and sadness inside of you that will drive you to make bad decisions and eventually cause you to get involved in a conflict that will seem unescapable, then to only find out that this conflict was meaningless, this is precisely what happens to Madame Loisel in the story The Necklace by Edgar Allen Poe. When Madame Loisel does this she begins to show very negative signs like consistent complaining and ungratefulness for anything that she deems poor . Without a doubt though, these horrid traits eventually diminished when her consistent complaining and begging got her a false necklace she would eventually lose and have to pay in debt, which made her work for the things she wanted. Our beloved Madame Loisel also had her moments of extreme euphoria that even made me feel joyous too, this extreme euphoria occurs when she finally got the ability to get her hands on a fancy dress and a very deceiving jewel necklace. It sounds simple but the anthem has become complicated. This is America 2016, a time where police officers are getting away with murder and a businessman is elected as our president. When the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers Colin Kaepernick decided to not stand for the playing of the national anthem in the pre season game of the NFL, he was the first athlete to vividly illustrate his outrage over the police brutality stirring within the American population. His actions have led to a wave of athlete protests who are joining to exercise their constitutional rights and help fight against an issue bigger than sports. However, there are many citizens attacking the silent protests with violent threats and are calling the participants disrespectful. While the controversy has centered on the playing of The Star Spangled Banner, it has been overlooked that the problem is really with the entire country and the cultural divisions that exist in today s society. According to the Oxford English Dictionary the word ‘tax refers to a compulsory contribution to the support of government levied on persons, property, income, commodities, transactions, etc, now at a fixed rate mostly proportionate to the amount on which the contribution is levied. While this serves in crude terms to tell us what a tax is, it is however deficient in the sense that it does not reveal the purpose of taxation. We however find more scholarly definitions in decided cases. For instance, in MATTHEWS v. CHICORY MARKETING BOARD it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Various tax statutes all contain charging clauses. Under the PITA, this is found in S 1 which provides thus: There is hereby imposed a tax on the income of individuals, communities and families, and arising to any trustee or executor under any settlement, trust or estate In respect of the CITA, S 8 provides the charging clause thus: Subject to the provisions of this Act, the tax shall, for each year of assessment , be payable at the rate specified in subsection (1) of section 29 of this Act upon the profits of any company accruing in, derived from, or brought into, or received in Nigeria In the case of the VAT ACT, the charging clause is contained in S 1(1) where it is provided that: There is hereby imposed and charged a tax to be known as the Value Added Tax which shall be administered according to the provisions of this Act. The effect of these provisions is to make a taxpayer liable to taxation. In reality, tax is a creation of statute and there is no of common law or equity that makes a man liable to tax. Therefore, from time to time whenever a dispute arises between the relevant tax authority and the taxpayer, there is a need to establish a judicial construction of any particular provision of a tax statute. • 20. Global Supply Chain Management Simulation Essay Summary of Global Supply Chain Management Simulation I enjoyed the Global Supply Chain Management Simulation (GSCM). It was exciting to be a Manager of the supply chain of a mobile phone manufacturer. I learned very quickly the pressures of running such a large operation. In this review, I will discuss lessons learned regarding conceptions shown in the simulation. I will explain how if completing the simulation again, what I would complete differently. In conclusion, I will talk about my key overall takeaways from this exercise. Year One In Year 1 while in the Design room, I chose the Wifi and Stylish options. My intuitive thoughts were consumer based and not supplier driven. However, these combined options offered an estimated favorable profit for the company. While forecasting I chose to forecast below average for Model A and above average for Model B. Again, my decision making was consumer driven and I as a consumer would prefer a stylish mobile device over a base model, therefore estimated demand at a higher level. In choosing suppliers in Year 1, key drivers were lead times, setup and unit carrying costs, and capacity. The decision were also based off of my forecast for each model. I learned quickly as each month passed, I was out of inventory therefore, making a costly $2.0MM adjustment with one of my suppliers. In this scenario, if running the simulation again I would better match the supplier with the forecasted demand. Year Two In Year 2, I was advised not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Tax Revenue Is The Source Of Funding For Public Education Tax revenue is the source of funding for public education. Taxes can be progressive or regressive, depending on its impact on the taxpayer. A progressive tax is one in which the tax rate increases as income does. The federal income tax structure is an example of a progressive tax. A Regressive tax is one in which the tax rate is uniform and therefore, the regressive tax takes a larger percentage of available funds from lower income individuals than from higher income individuals. Sales tax is an example of a regressive tax. There are five local sources of income that schools rely on for revenue, and there are advantages and disadvantages to each with respect to equity, yield, and acceptance. Sorenson and Goldsmith list homestead exemptions, tax abatements, legal entanglements, taxpayer associations and underassessments as reasons that taxes are not based on the full property value (p.23). In terms of school funding, schools in wealthier communities are at an advantage over schools in economically depressed areas, where property values are much lower. Sales tax is regressive in nature, and dependent on taxpayers having enough confidence in the economy to spend their money. Sales tax is a consistent form of revenue for school funding, however the yield is inconsistent as the tax is not collected unless merchandise is purchased. Like the sales tax, the sin or sumptuary tax has an elastic yield and is only as stable as the economy. The sin tax applies to tobacco, alcohol and gambling, and is not considered a reliable source of public school funding (Sorenson Goldsmith, p. 23 2013). Sorenson and Goldsmith describe the lottery as an assessment on legal gambling, and closely related to a sin tax. The public perception is that a state lottery is an excellent source of funding for state education programs, the reality is that the the lottery does nothing to fund educational initiatives. In fact, there is no evidence that any state lottery has significantly supported or benefitted any school district or, for that matter, public education in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
