The Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language
Out of my six year career as a teacher, I could observe that learning a foreign language by relying only
on the conventional teaching strategies will lead to little or no result. Departing from the repetitive
grammar translation method to other innovative approaches helped me attain a certain level of
motivation and interest from my students in learning ESL. Likewise, as a Fulbright FLTA, I would
adopt the same trajectory in teaching Arabic to non native speakers in order to improve the students
acquisition of the target language. One of the approaches that I currently implement in my classroom
is giving my students an immersive and interactive learning experience. It is undeniable that full
immersion in the target language can be quite problematic seeing that as soon as the learners leave the
school setting, they are once again surrounded by their native language. For this reason, I endeavor to
gain insights into the student learning attitude from off class communications with them in the hope of
bringing something new for each lesson. Should I be given the opportunity to teach Arabic at US
universities, I would persuade my students to step out of the traditional learning setting by visiting
Arabic speaking families and interacting with them, or encouraging them to get involved in events
held by Arabs living in the area. As an FLTA, I will be ready to offer students uncommon access to
target languages by hosting cooking sessions, cultural presentations, and other

Carnival Corporation
Irene Ruggieri Campaign Critique Assignment #1 Carnival Corporation Carnival Corporation, like
many other companies, has had its ups and downs throughout the years of its existence. Their first
cruise ship, the TSS Mardi Gras, ran aground on a sandbar during its inaugural voyage. (Business
Insider, p.1) In 1998 one of the company s cruise ships had a fire in the laundry room that led to the
ship losing its course. However, 2012 and 2013 were especially hard for the company due to two
incidents that caused the company to lose both revenue and the confidence of their shareholders and
customers. In their 2012 Annual report, the company states revenues declined $410 million primarily
as a result of the direct and indirect consequences of the Costa Concordia incident . (Carnival Corp plc
Annual Report, p. 2) In January 2012 the Costa Concordia capsized on the coast of Tuscany, Italy

Effects Of Depression In The Great Depression
The Great Depression in the Great Depression During the Great Depression jobs, food, and money
were hard to come by for most people. The period between 1929 and 1939, Americans from all over
were struggling to just get by. The struggles people faced put a strain on families and even themselves.
People during the Great Depression were often ashamed, humiliated, and lost their sense of self worth.
In Maslow s hierarchy esteem is considered a high order need, to establish that you must meet other
needs like physiological needs, a sense of safety, and belonging. When those needs are not met the
person will lose their self esteem. People in America during this time struggled with their self esteem
and they had difficulty when trying to find purpose. That struggle results in broken families, and an
increase in the homeless population. The inability to find jobs violates the sense of financial safety
associated with Maslow s hierarchy. During this time it wasn t just the homeless and downtrodden that
felt ashamed it was also the people providing relief to them, due to the prodding required. Prior to the
Great Depression life was one of excess and buying on credit for most Americans. They had a certain
persona that they wanted to show off to people. Most Americans compared themselves to their
neighbors as a gauge of how well they were doing. Then one day the money that they associated with
their self worth was gone. People of course panicked and realized that what they held so

A Brief Note On Landfill With Electricity Recovery
3.3.2. Landfill with Electricity recovery
Landfilling with electricity recovery used in this study is a typical MSW landfill with surface and
basic sealing, site operations including landfill gas treatment, sludge treatment, leachate treatment and
deposition, and meeting European limits for emissions. The inventory data are taken from the GaBi
database (GaBi, 2015). 28% of the landfill gas is assumed to be used for electricity production while
22% of it is assumed to be flared and the rest (50%) emitted to the environment. The energy and
manufacturing processes of the sealing materials requirements for the site, are included within the
system.
3.3.3. Incineration
The Incinerator used in this study is an MSW incinerator with Moving grate combined heat and power
incinerator used in Europe and UK in particular. The inventory data used are taken from the GaBi
database (GaBi, 2015). And the control of emissions is done using wet and dry flue gas treatment by
injecting hydrated lime, urea and activated carbon into the flue gases with filter bags for particulate
removal. Ferrous metals (Fe, Cu, Al etc.) are recovered, which 60% of the produced bottom ash after
metal recovery and ageing is reused as construction material (and will leave the system as bottom ash
for reuse). The remaining 40% are disposed on a landfill (GaBi, 2015)). The credits for the electricity,
metal recovery and operation of the underground deposit is included with gross electrical efficiency

Racism In Friday Night Lights
Racism was a consistent theme throughout the entirety of Friday Night Lights (2015) and was
intertwined with many of the issues and concepts discussed here. Odessa held onto its racial
ideologies for much longer than it should have, even with Federal lawsuits against them (Bissinger,
2015; pg. 107 Coakley, 2015; pg. 227). These beliefs were deeply held and acted upon that they still
were intact even after the desegregation of the schools. The Southside of Odessa had been and
continued to be classified as the low income and minority side of town where the blacks and Hispanics
lived, while the East side was for the wealthy and white citizens. The railroad tracks that ran through
the heart of town served as the divider for this segregation, or as Lanita Akins called it: The American
version of the Berlin Wall (Bissinger, 2015; pg. 99). The physical separation wasn t the only racial
issue that Odessa had. Blacks and Hispanics were both quite underrepresented in Permian High, only
making up about 31% of the student body (Bissinger, 2015; pg. 175). The black population of Odessa
seemed to get the blunt end of the racial stigma though, which is especially seen at the beginning of

It was also common for Texas high school football as a whole. These behaviors were seen both off and
on the field and included extreme play against the opposing team, drinking, drug use, fighting, hubris,
and institutional corruption (Bissinger, 2015 Coakley, 2015). Off field behavior included mainly
drinking and getting into fights, though the citizens of Odessa even went as far as shooting a gun
inside a bar at one point. The player s drinking had become bad enough that an anonymous letter
frowning upon that behavior found its way into their lockers while they were in the playoffs

Safe Sex Behavior
Predicting safe sex behaviors is complicated as it involves another person and it is often unplanned
(Turchik Gidycz). Based on our analysis so far, all evidence suggests that the TPB model alone does
not adequately predict safe sex behavior. However from our analysis of studies that included added
variables, we know that extending the model can add to its predictableness, especially when the model
includes past behavior. Two of the four articles indicated that past behaviour is a major predictor of
intention and a valuable adage to the TPB model. McEachan et al found that when included, past
behavior accounted for a further 25.3% to the overall predictive value of the TPB. Similarly Turchik
and Gidycz found that past behavior had a solid, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas, Shields and Gabbay highlight in their results that the decision to use a condom requires a
separate set of considerations from those expended in previous research (2013). Furthermore
researchers should not assume that one set of variables, which had relative success in predicting one
type of safe sex behavior e.g. condom use, would have similar success at predicting another e.g. the
pill (Turchik Cidycz). This lack of stratification disallows for an examination of the differences such
considerations may present. As such, studies that have used the TPB, do not reveal much of the social
cognitive processes that underlie safe sex practices. There is a clear indication that separating safe sex
behaviors into partner type, age group, sex, relationship status etc. is important, as the rates of
engagement and predicative variables will vary across sample groups and behavioral types (Turchik

Dragonfly Research Paper
Now that we have covered what exactly an arthropod is and why they (specifically the uniramians
class) are so successful, we can focus on one specific organism and look deeper into how they evolved
to be so successful in the environment they are in today. The organism that we are going to be
focusing on is the dragonfly. The dragonfly has been around for 300 million years and has manage to
stay alive and thrive in its environments. Back then an ancestor of dragonflies roamed the planet, its
name was Meganeura. Meganeura is a genus of extinct insects from approximately 300 million years
ago, they are related to modern day dragonflies. In this group one member known as M. permiana was
first described be researchers in Kansas in 1937 as having a wingspan of over 2 feet or 0.6 meters
long. It is still considered one of the largest insects ever to be alive on this planet. To better understand
why prehistoric dragonflies were bigger than modern ones we must go back in time to take a look at
what potentially happened and how the dragonfly evolved into what it is today. ... Show more content

The wingless insects first appeared approximately 380 million years ago. The evolution of insects
happened in four stages but for the dragonfly it appears in the second stage so we will only be looking
into the first and second stages. The first stage is called the Apterygote stage, this term broken down
basically means without wings. During this stage the simplest forms of insects were developed. They
had no wings, or developed leg/ body parts. They also did not go through metamorphosis, instead they
went through something known as ametabolous development. Ametabolous development basically
means that the immature closely resembles the adult except for the presence of

The Forgotten Female in the Works of Ernest Hemingway Essay
The Forgotten Female in the Works of Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway has often been accused of misogyny in his treatment of female characters (and,
perhaps, in his treatment of women in his own life). It is not fashionable these days to praise the work
of Ernest Hemingway, says Frederick Busch. His women too often seem to be projections of male
needfulness (1). Many of his stories are seen as prototypical bildungsroman stories stories, usually, of
young men coming of age. There are few, if any, stories in the canon of women coming of age,
however, and Hemingway is not the first to suffer the wrath of feminist critics. But is this wrath
justified?
In his dissertation, Mark G. Newton reviews some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that . . . Hemingway exhibits uncensored male perceptions of females perhaps as a partial
explanation for why women occupy subjugated positions in American society (180). He concludes:
. . . Hemingway s chief concerns remain consistent. Within this world of selfishness represented in
Hemingway s canon, the lost, lamented for values include faith, hope, and security as well as fertility,
creativity, love, peace, and human brotherhood for maintaining life. . . . Harry s last words, A man
alone ain t got no bloody fucking chance (THAHN 225), imply that togetherness may be the first step
toward healing. Searching within the abyss of nada for meaning, people must first reform and embrace
each other before they can reform and embrace the world. (188)
These are the same echoes, the reaching out for other human contact, that we see in George Willard in
Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio. However, in placing women in this almost Christ like
position the saviors of mankind as it were is Hemingway presenting women at all? Or is he presenting
only male fantasies the kind of stereotypical, mythic female figure that women have been condemned
by our society to try to live up to?

An Organization s Corporate Social Responsibility
An organization s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drives them to look out for the different
interests of society. Most business corporations undertake responsibility for the impact of their
organizational pursuits and various activities on their customers, employees, shareholders,
communities and the environment. With the high volume of general competition between different
companies and organizations in varied fields, CSR has become a morally imperative commitment,
more than one enforced by the law. Most organizations in the modern world willingly try to improve
the general well being of not only their employees, but also their families and the society as a whole.

Due to the increase of public awareness in the recent years, a company needs to maintain its moral
image. This has also led to the governments all over the world becoming more vigilant in their
regulation of these organizations. Government restriction, taxes and environmentally sensitive areas
are some of the biggest and most expensive hindrances faced by business organizations, costing them
millions of dollars. For some cases, it becomes too expensive for companies to be ethical in tackling
various obligations. This forces them to change their approach and look for alternative actions.
The Five year plan
Wells Fargo is one of the leaders in the banking industry of the United States. As such, external social
pressures to conduct business in a legal, moral and, ethical way, while helping the community around
the organization is a major influence on the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, as well as the

Social Responsibility Effort, which focuses on global economic, social, and environmental challenges

Grand Rapids First Church Center Of The Church
On Sunday, May 14th 2017 at 9:00am, I attended a worship service at Grand Rapids First Church.
Grand Rapids First Church s auditorium seats about 3000 people. The interior space of the church is
circular with the podium somewhat in the center. I believe that this places God at the center of the
church. Additionally, there are crucifixes on walls throughout the church. These crucifixes serve as
anamnesis of Christ s death and resurrection. Furthermore, there is a huge crucifix right in front of the
main entrance of the auditorium; in my opinion, this helps believers to shift their focus [from the
world] to Jesus as they enter God s presence. The sanctuary, with the crucifixes, serve as a beachhead
of holiness in space.

Grand Rapids first is an Assemblies of God church. As a result, its theology is closely related to that of
the pentecostal denomination. Also, the worshippers varied from toddlers to the elderly. Because of
this context, worship was very diverse. The worship team sang songs that were familiar to both the
youth and to the elderly. Also, the words of the songs were projected on a screen for people who were
not conversant with the songs. Additionally, Pastor Sam preached in a way that was applicable to both
the old and young. During his preaching, he gave quality examples that resonated with everyone s life,
no matter the age difference.
An example of cross cultural sharing I appreciated was the use of contemporary Christian songs. Back
at home, in Ghana, I attend a nondenominational, charismatic church. At my home church, we sing
lots of foreign gospel music; Hillsong, Bethel music, Chris Tomlin to mention but a few, are artists
whose music are frequently used during the church s worship service. As such, it was nice to hear
familiar songs when worshiping with Grand Rapids First church. It made me more comfortable and I
was able to experience both the expressive and formative aspects of worship. A countercultural
witness that I think is needed in Grand Rapids First, is the attitude of praying out loud. When I say

anywhere on the spectrum of career, family, assets, and ultimately happiness. As a result of this idea

that same celebrity was in fact once a regular civilian too. As long as the regular civilian is willing and
able to put in the hard work, determination, and initiative they too can achieve the American dream.
Generally speaking, with the ability to relate is one of the major factors in what thrives the concept of
the American dream as it demonstrates anyone is able to obtain such success. Location, race, and the
upbringing of the upper class elites creates this belief because before these individuals were able to
obtain such success many of them shared that same neighborhood, family dynamics, classrooms, and

How to house train a new puppy by Augusto Deoliveira There are two methods that are my favorites...
the first one and most commonly used by puppy owners is the crate training.. The second method I
really like is to have your puppy on a leash while in the house and have that leash attaching to you
while you do your tours around the house... Now let me go into details on how both of these methods
work and why.. first lets talk about how the crate works to help you house train your puppy.. Not only
potty train but also avoid unwanted chewing habits to develop. Dogs are clean animals in their natural

so ignoring them and just walking in circles is the best thing to do... Once your puppy has done his/her
business you can bring them back in the house and give them a little free time to explore the home.. no

Thomas Jones Landscape With Dido And Aeneas (Storm
Abstract
This is a visual analysis on the work of 18th century Baroque painter Thomas Jones. This paper
analyses Thomas Jones painting titled Landscape with Dido and Aeneas (Storm). Thomas Jones dates
this painting at 1792 or late Baroque period. The Baroque period in painting emphasized dramatic
scenes, richer colors and textures than in the Renaissance (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2013). This
paper tries to analyze various formal elements of design, including color, line, and shape. Some
elements that make up the Universal Principles of Design are also considered for Jones s painting,
including proximity, the Rule of Thirds, balance, and composition. The Baroque period makes for

It is estimated over 285 million people worldwide are visually impaired with one of the major causes
being cataract at 33% (figure 1A)(Pascolini Mariotti, 2012). Cataract is considered to be the leading
cause of blindness (51%) in the world (figure 1B) (Pascolini Mariotti, 2012). (ref 1) According to

2.0 Definition of cataract
World Health Organization (n.d.) defines cataract as the clouding of the lens of the eyes, which
prevents clear vision. Although most cases are related to the ageing process, occasionally children can
be born with the condition, or a cataract may develop after eye injuries, inflammation, and some other
eye diseases (WHO, n.d.).
With the increasing ageing population around the world, it has become a major public health concern
with the number of cataract cases increasing at the same rate (Mukesh, Le, Dimitrov and Ahmed,
2006).(ref 2)

The Human Being Is The Most Sophisticated Organism On The...
The human being is the most sophisticated organism on the planet. It feeds, cleans, and heals itself. It
does have an expiration date however, that can be hacked or manipulated depending on the way, you
as the steward of your body treats it. As I stated the job of the body is to clean and heal the body to
increase the longevity and its quality of life. Now the body heals everything the same way, but its
reaction depends on the structure or organ that becomes injured. For example if your body is cut, it
bleeds, this begins the inflammatory process initiated by this insult or injury scar tissue is summoned
to the injured area, and new cells replace the damaged tissue and within about 6 weeks the injured area
is returned to somewhat normal, of course depending on the extent of damage. The key is to adopt a
more holistic view, rather than focusing on small bits and pieces of your anatomy. And that includes
taking your thoughts and emotions into account as well . The optimum aging scenario, says Andrew
Weil MD, a pioneer in integrative medicine, is to remain as healthy as possible until we approach
death, and then rapidly decline: Regardless, your wish to live a long healthy life. To do this, one must
counteract the toxicity being ingested, inhaled, or exposed to the body. For the last 117 years, we have
been under constant assault from environmental toxins, in our food, water, air, etc. Experts are

Olmsted And Veaux Central Park Summary
Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux s choices in the design of Central Park reflect a key
movement toward sustainability. In leiu of ornate structures prefered by the upper class, Olmsted and
Vaux chose designs that would encourage people from all classes to enjoy the park. Olmsted and Vaux
selected plants and additional fixtures in the park by considering ecological implications. One of the
main goals during the creation of Central Park was to provide a serene space for city dwellers to go
and escape the troubles of urban life. Olmsted and Vaux promoted sustainability in the design of
Central Park by maintaining class equality, making environmentally sound decisions, and supporting
the needs of the surrounding community.

William Brickman and Paulo Freire
William Brickman and Paulo Freire were two famous educators that brought their own ideas and
contributions to the education field. They shared some similarities, differences, challenges, and an
overall positive impact on education that is with us today.
The contribution of Brickman and Freire
Brickman s Contribution
Brickman thought it was essential to have comparative education, which is the idea that professionals
in the education field be exposed to different cultures, living in a different country, learning to speak
the language, sharing and gaining knowledge with their counterparts, and gaining insight in the
diversity of education.( Silova Brehm,2010) Brickman founded the Comparative education society. He

The bank concept is the concept that teachers teach what they want and the learners listen, teachers
decide what they will teach and what the learner will learn. Dialogue is the term used to describe a
mutual respect of teaching and learning, where both parties contribute and have a mutual respect for
one another. (Flanagan, 2005)
Similarities between Brickman and Freire
Both men were raised in lower socioeconomic neighborhoods. Brickman was raised in the Lower East
side of New York, where he was exposed to a variety of multilingual languages, media, and parents
who spoke a variety of languages. Brickman as a young child was exposed to different cultures and
history. (Silova Brehm, 2010). Freire s family found themselves in financial crisis after the Wall Street
crashed in 1929 and his father took a financial loss that resulted in the family moving to a lower
socioeconomic area in Brazil. (Flanagan, 2005). This financial crisis allowed Freire to witness
firsthand the poverty of the peasants and the effect it had on their education. (Flanagan, 2005). The
similarities of both educators living in poor conditions seemed to be a motivator for both men s
contribution to the education field.
The differences between Brickman and Freire
Brickman focused on comparative education, and promoting the idea of professionals in education to

Summary Of Ethos Pathos Logos By Maggie Jackson
What are some ways you could persuade your reader to your opinion? One way is by using logos,
pathos, and ethos. What are logos, pathos, and ethos? Those three terms are modes of persuasion used
to convince your audience. In the essay Distracted: The Erosion of Attention and The Coming Dark
Age by Maggie Jackson. Maggie used those three concepts to help her argument because she hooks
the reader by convincing the audience, making the audience feel what she felt and lastly using logic or
reason.
Authors typically use pathos to make their reader feel what the author wants them to feel. For
example, Maggie says It s crucial that we better understand how our new high tech tools, from video
games to PowerPoint, may be affecting us (Jackson273). Maggie wants the readers to realize that
technology can affect us whether it s through video games, phones or PowerPoint. Technology has an

Maggie showed her readers the statistics of using too much technology. Maggie had other sources to
back her opinion up, she had proof that technology is poisoning our minds. Today toddlers are
learning how to work a tablet before learning how to say their alphabets or read a book. Another
example Maggie used Government and other studies show that many US high school students can t
synthesize or assess information, express complex thoughts or analyze arguments (Jackson271).
Students are lacking staying focus and the skills nurtured by the brain s executive attention network.
By Maggie using logos, pathos and ethos she made sure that if her reader did not at least agree with
her opinion. The reader would have learned something from her

Simon s Rising Action In Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies by William Golding, is a story of a group of young boys that gets stuck on an island
together after a plane crash. The rising action of this novel is when ralph blows on the conch to gather
all the boys. The climax is when Simon discovers the Lord of the Flies in the glades and discovers that
the Lord of the Flies is actually an entity that lives within each of the boys. The falling action is when
the adult is spotted by Ralph. Ralph: logical, charismatic, civilized, productive Jack: ego maniac,
savage, violent, power hungry Simon: good, moral, virtuous, noble Simon is a character that, instead
of letting his morals go as soon as they figured out that they were all alone, kept his values and morals
until his death. Simon is the character that discovers the beastie and the true meaning of it. He
recognized that the beastie was not a real serpent, but the evil that lurks in all human beings. He is
killed because he is the good in the world, not recognized by the savage beasts that are humans. ...

it. He actually gained a need to hunt. He needed the power over the life of another life. This quote
connects to the theme because it explains how easy it is for humans to become beasts. Jack embodies
the true savagery and violence of humans. It also is another milestone of the boys changing into
savages. He is also able to gain more power over the group as he becomes more

Real Textile and Domestic Wastewater Treatment by Novel...
The microbial fuel cell (MFC) is an upsurging technology in the field of bio energy generation along
with wastewater treatment. The microbial fuel cell generates energy with the help of microbes that
makes it green future source of energy. In MFC, anaerobic microbes degrade organic matter and
produce hydrogen ions (H+) and electrons (e ) at the anode. H+ ion diffuses through the proton
exchange membrane (PEM); and e are transported through an electrode via an external circuit to the
cathode. At a cathode, e and H+ ions combine with oxygen to form water (H2O), this results in power
generation [1]. MFC has limited open circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.14 V because of the standard redox

Generally treatment processes are classified as physical, chemical or biological. Physical treatment
process includes physical extraction of dyes by adsorption [8], membrane filtration [9] and ion
exchange. However, extracted dyes not be recovered, high cost and yet requirement of another process
to degrade dyes makes these processes unsustainable. Chemical methods as Chemical Oxidation [10],
Ozonization [11] and Electrochemical degradations are uneconomical and unfavorable for the
environment. Biological methods are based on anaerobiotic or aerobiotic, microbial culture. But
purely anaerobic digestion of azo dye produces carcinogenic aromatic amine and aerobic deterioration
alone is not able to degrade all dyes, also result in high amounts of sludge [12 14]. Sequential
application of anaerobic followed by aerobic degradation has been providing a solution with the
advantage of economic, reliable and ecological benefits [15,16].
Real textile wastewater (RTW) has low biological oxygen demand (BOD) to the chemical oxygen
demand (COD) ratio, which implies chemical treatment is required. RTW also has greater color
appearance; high total dissolved solid (TDS), suspended solids (SS), high temperature and variable pH
(from 5 to 9) depending on dye. On the other hand, domestic wastewater has almost neutral pH, high
BOD, normal temperature and high volume as well. Gingell and Walker [17] proposed two step

The History Of The Orff Schulwerk Approach To Music Education
Introduction The Orff Schulwerk ( Schulwerk being the German translation for school work )
approach to music education is one of the most commonly used methods of teaching music in the
twenty first century. This interactive method of music education is most commonly used for
elementary students, but can be applied to teach secondary students as well. Developed by composers
Carl Orff (1895 1982) and Gunild Keetman (1904 1990), the Orff Schulwerk method focuses on
teaching students by using elemental music, meaning music that children are naturally inclined to
make, similar to the natural way that children learn speech and language. The Orff Schulwerk method
also places a strong emphasis on the areas of exploration and experience.
The History of the Orff Schulwerk Method Carl Orff was born in Munich, Germany on July 10, 1895.
After his schooling and his tenure in the German army, Orff began intensely studying 16th and 17th
century music. Orff founded the Güntherschule, a movement school, with Dorothee Günther in 1924;
the students (numbering seventeen) ranged from ages 18 to 22, and were all female. Orff wrote that
improvisation was the beginning foundation for making elemental music, particularly rhythmic
improvisation. Orff s emphasis on elemental music likely stemmed from the work of Wassily
Kandinsky, who wrote on the internalization of movement for dance forms that would emerge in the
future. Students from Orff s school began performing and using improvisation on

Sin In The Scarlett Letter
In the Scarlet Letter, Hester was punished for her sin, she had to wear the letter A on her chest. The A
on her chest stood for Adultery, Hester had to stand in front of the town s people where she was
constantly judged by them. James 4:12 reads There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is
able to save and destroy. But you who are you to judge your neighbor ? The bible also states that
whoever is without sin throw the first stone meaning that everyone sins. If the world had to wear their
sin, people would be judgmental, compare or help others through their sin, asked for forgiveness yet
still have to wear your sin lastly, if everyone had to wear their sin, the world would be a less secretive
place.
Hester committed adultery after her husband left her for a long period of time, she found love with the

What Is Social Construction Of Terrorism
Social Construct and Terrorism
Perceptions, beliefs, and ideas are ever changing. It is through social construction that humans have
constructed definitions and accepted understandings out of surrounding concepts, thus allowing them
to make a socially accepted concept that can be utilized as a baseline of understanding. Galbin (2015)
defines social constructionism as, a theory of knowledge of sociology and communication that
examines the development jointly constructed understanding of the world (p. 48). Additionally, White
(2014) points out that social construct is the way people view reality (p. 4), or how things really are to

When defining terrorism, either domestic or international use, it is evident that a social construct is
present. It is difficult to define or categorize the forms of a terrorist act, or what constitutes as a
terrorist act based on what each party agrees to be an actual form of terrorism. These issues within
terrorism and crime emerge due to the vast diversity within the United States and the world. A law
abiding citizen in the United States could easily be breaking many laws in another country due to the
social construct that is present. Or even a belief system or political agenda might be accepted by one
group while considered extremists or terroristic in nature by others. Furthermore, social
constructionism and its role in terrorism and crime are based on who is looking through the viewfinder
at that specific point in time. There is an understanding and belief that there is crime and terrorism
throughout the world, yet specifically pinpointing an underlining understanding of what terrorism and
crime is has not been widely accepted (White, 2014, p. 4). It goes without saying that perception is
based on reality and that everyone has different perceptions, beliefs, and ideas that each produces a

The Gulag Camp System In The 1930 s
The Gulag Camp System was established in the Soviet Union during the 1930 s. These camps forced
people to do intense labor under harsh conditions. Whether large or small, each camp was known for
its brutality. During these harsh times it was hard to ignore what was going on, however no one could
prevent it from happening. People feared for their lives when the thought of Gulags came up, as
referenced in the book 1984, written by George Orwell.
The term Gulag is a Russian acronym for Glavany Upravlenie Lagerey meaning, camp . These camps
operated for two main reasons: a way to deal with prisoners and unwanted individuals; and also
helped build the infrastructure by forced labor (Hayes). During Joseph Stalin s campaign the camps
grew tremendously. The camps varied in size, however the largest camps were located in the most
extreme regions in the country. Work was mostly manual, unskilled, and inefficient. While working in
the camps, prisoners had to work for their food. The more work they did, the more food they earned. A
variety of different things led to a high death rate among the camps (Gulag). Some people believe that

The heart is made of specialized tissue known as cardiac muscle. Cardiac muscle is made of
myocardial cells which can be further divided into autorhythmic and contractile cells. The
autorhythmic cells are composed of sinoatrial (SA) nodes and atrioventricular (AV) nodes. These
nodes contain pacemaker cells that control heart rate by producing pacemaker potentials. An example
of a pacemaker potential is shown in Figure 1. The potential goes from slow depolarization to rapid
depolarization to a peak and lastly to a repolarization phase. In the slow depolarization phase, funny

My Yoga Journey
This is not a book about how to practise yoga postures but rather an approach as to how to include a
search for consciousness in every aspect of yoga. Our yoga journey is the tool for understanding.
My yoga journey started more than ten years ago with an intense and dedicated interest in learning
yoga postures from Ashtanga, Hatha, Jivamukti, etc. In the beginning I practised most days of the
week and imagined that I would never tire, in spite of long trips to the studio in the early hours of the
morning. A pleasant reward was that my blood pressure dropped back to normal and I could stop
taking medicines. So, from the start, I knew that yoga could provide health benefits as well as an
enormous feeling of wellbeing. No matter how tired and fed up one felt at the beginning of a session,
the mental lift afterwards was deeply satisfying. Meditation, Savasana, or corpse posture, wound up
every session so it also became clear that postures or asanas were only part of the remedy. Meditation
and yoga practise from the very beginning fired my interest in searching for an inner consciousness.

Android s brilliant pull down window shade notification tray, on the other hand, is a beautiful thing
that could make any iPhone owner jealous.
Voice to Text; Winner: Android
Nearly every text field on an Android device can be filled with a few words from your mouth, and it
works surprisingly well. You can respond to emails by voice, send long text messages by voice while
you re walking around Target, respond to your editor s IMs while you re at a graduation ceremony,
and so on, as long as you re comfortable talking to your phone (it is a phone, so you should be). Apart
from voice to text in third party apps, iOS doesn t support voice to text at all.
Syncing; Winner: Android iPhones can be incredible standalone devices, but they re surprisingly old
fashioned when it comes to syncing, requiring users to plug into their computers and connect to
iTunes to do all sorts of syncing and activating that could be more conveniently done wirelessly.
Android phones support pretty great over the air syncing with your Google account, so much so that if
you were to lose your previous Android phone, simply entering your Google account into a new one
can get you up and running with a usable phone in a jiffy.
Non Google Sync; Winner: iPhone
Android s great at syncing seamlessly with Google s servers, but it s not so keen on syncing with other
popular sources of data like, say,

Then the counselor would do a complete biopsychosocial assessment on Paul to ensure that the client
is treated on all aspects of the wellness model. Once the assessment is completed the first thing for this
counselor to do is talk to the client about also entering some substance abuse outpatient treatment.
This mental health counselor would treat Paul for his anxiety and any other mental health conditions
the client is diagnosed with. Then this counselor would refer the client to the local outpatient
substance abuse treatment facility to talk with tone of their counselors about his drinking issues and
why he feels he needs to frequently drink. The addictions counselor can focus on the clients drinking,
while the mental health counselor will be able to focus on the anxiety, depression, and adjustment
disorder. Addictions counselor is more familiar with the disease concept, prevention, interventions for
substance abuse clients, and the referral for continuing care for substance abuse clients. Mental health
counselors are trained in treating the anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorder with appropriate
interventions and prevention techniques. Paul could be referred to the local veteran s hospital to

  • 2. The Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language Out of my six year career as a teacher, I could observe that learning a foreign language by relying only on the conventional teaching strategies will lead to little or no result. Departing from the repetitive grammar translation method to other innovative approaches helped me attain a certain level of motivation and interest from my students in learning ESL. Likewise, as a Fulbright FLTA, I would adopt the same trajectory in teaching Arabic to non native speakers in order to improve the students acquisition of the target language. One of the approaches that I currently implement in my classroom is giving my students an immersive and interactive learning experience. It is undeniable that full immersion in the target language can be quite problematic seeing that as soon as the learners leave the school setting, they are once again surrounded by their native language. For this reason, I endeavor to gain insights into the student learning attitude from off class communications with them in the hope of bringing something new for each lesson. Should I be given the opportunity to teach Arabic at US universities, I would persuade my students to step out of the traditional learning setting by visiting Arabic speaking families and interacting with them, or encouraging them to get involved in events held by Arabs living in the area. As an FLTA, I will be ready to offer students uncommon access to target languages by hosting cooking sessions, cultural presentations, and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carnival Corporation Irene Ruggieri Campaign Critique Assignment #1 Carnival Corporation Carnival Corporation, like many other companies, has had its ups and downs throughout the years of its existence. Their first cruise ship, the TSS Mardi Gras, ran aground on a sandbar during its inaugural voyage. (Business Insider, p.1) In 1998 one of the company s cruise ships had a fire in the laundry room that led to the ship losing its course. However, 2012 and 2013 were especially hard for the company due to two incidents that caused the company to lose both revenue and the confidence of their shareholders and customers. In their 2012 Annual report, the company states revenues declined $410 million primarily as a result of the direct and indirect consequences of the Costa Concordia incident . • 4. Effects Of Depression In The Great Depression The Great Depression in the Great Depression During the Great Depression jobs, food, and money were hard to come by for most people. The period between 1929 and 1939, Americans from all over were struggling to just get by. The struggles people faced put a strain on families and even themselves. People during the Great Depression were often ashamed, humiliated, and lost their sense of self worth. In Maslow s hierarchy esteem is considered a high order need, to establish that you must meet other needs like physiological needs, a sense of safety, and belonging. When those needs are not met the person will lose their self esteem. People in America during this time struggled with their self esteem and they had difficulty when trying to find purpose. That struggle results in broken families, and an increase in the homeless population. The inability to find jobs violates the sense of financial safety associated with Maslow s hierarchy. During this time it wasn t just the homeless and downtrodden that felt ashamed it was also the people providing relief to them, due to the prodding required. Prior to the Great Depression life was one of excess and buying on credit for most Americans. They had a certain persona that they wanted to show off to people. Most Americans compared themselves to their neighbors as a gauge of how well they were doing. Then one day the money that they associated with their self worth was gone. People of course panicked and realized that what they held so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Landfill with Electricity recovery Landfilling with electricity recovery used in this study is a typical MSW landfill with surface and basic sealing, site operations including landfill gas treatment, sludge treatment, leachate treatment and deposition, and meeting European limits for emissions. The inventory data are taken from the GaBi database (GaBi, 2015). 28% of the landfill gas is assumed to be used for electricity production while 22% of it is assumed to be flared and the rest (50%) emitted to the environment. The energy and manufacturing processes of the sealing materials requirements for the site, are included within the system. 3.3.3. • 7. Racism In Friday Night Lights Racism was a consistent theme throughout the entirety of Friday Night Lights (2015) and was intertwined with many of the issues and concepts discussed here. Odessa held onto its racial ideologies for much longer than it should have, even with Federal lawsuits against them (Bissinger, 2015; pg. 107 Coakley, 2015; pg. 227). These beliefs were deeply held and acted upon that they still were intact even after the desegregation of the schools. The Southside of Odessa had been and continued to be classified as the low income and minority side of town where the blacks and Hispanics lived, while the East side was for the wealthy and white citizens. The railroad tracks that ran through the heart of town served as the divider for this segregation, or as Lanita Akins called it: The American version of the Berlin Wall (Bissinger, 2015; pg. 99). The physical separation wasn t the only racial issue that Odessa had. Blacks and Hispanics were both quite underrepresented in Permian High, only making up about 31% of the student body (Bissinger, 2015; pg. 175). The black population of Odessa seemed to get the blunt end of the racial stigma though, which is especially seen at the beginning of chapter 5 with the use and explanation of why some Odessans used the word ... Off field behavior included mainly drinking and getting into fights, though the citizens of Odessa even went as far as shooting a gun inside a bar at one point. • 8. Safe Sex Behavior Predicting safe sex behaviors is complicated as it involves another person and it is often unplanned (Turchik Gidycz). Based on our analysis so far, all evidence suggests that the TPB model alone does not adequately predict safe sex behavior. However from our analysis of studies that included added variables, we know that extending the model can add to its predictableness, especially when the model includes past behavior. Two of the four articles indicated that past behaviour is a major predictor of intention and a valuable adage to the TPB model. McEachan et al found that when included, past behavior accounted for a further 25.3% to the overall predictive value of the TPB. Similarly Turchik and Gidycz found that past behavior had a solid, ... Thomas, Shields and Gabbay highlight in their results that the decision to use a condom requires a separate set of considerations from those expended in previous research (2013). Furthermore researchers should not assume that one set of variables, which had relative success in predicting one type of safe sex behavior e.g. condom use, would have similar success at predicting another e.g. the pill (Turchik Cidycz). This lack of stratification disallows for an examination of the differences such considerations may present. As such, studies that have used the TPB, do not reveal much of the social cognitive processes that underlie safe sex practices. There is a clear indication that separating safe sex behaviors into partner type, age group, sex, relationship status etc. is important, as the rates of engagement and predicative variables will vary across sample groups and behavioral types (Turchik ... • 9. Dragonfly Research Paper Now that we have covered what exactly an arthropod is and why they (specifically the uniramians class) are so successful, we can focus on one specific organism and look deeper into how they evolved to be so successful in the environment they are in today. The organism that we are going to be focusing on is the dragonfly. The dragonfly has been around for 300 million years and has manage to stay alive and thrive in its environments. Back then an ancestor of dragonflies roamed the planet, its name was Meganeura. Meganeura is a genus of extinct insects from approximately 300 million years ago, they are related to modern day dragonflies. In this group one member known as M. permiana was first described be researchers in Kansas in 1937 as having a wingspan of over 2 feet or 0.6 meters long. It is still considered one of the largest insects ever to be alive on this planet. To better understand why prehistoric dragonflies were bigger than modern ones we must go back in time to take a look at what potentially happened and how the dragonfly evolved into what it is today. ... • 11. The Forgotten Female in the Works of Ernest Hemingway Essay The Forgotten Female in the Works of Hemingway Ernest Hemingway has often been accused of misogyny in his treatment of female characters (and, perhaps, in his treatment of women in his own life). It is not fashionable these days to praise the work of Ernest Hemingway, says Frederick Busch. His women too often seem to be projections of male needfulness (1). Many of his stories are seen as prototypical bildungsroman stories stories, usually, of young men coming of age. There are few, if any, stories in the canon of women coming of age, however, and Hemingway is not the first to suffer the wrath of feminist critics. But is this wrath justified? In his dissertation, Mark G. Newton reviews some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argues that . . . Hemingway exhibits uncensored male perceptions of females perhaps as a partial explanation for why women occupy subjugated positions in American society (180). He concludes: . . . Hemingway s chief concerns remain consistent. Within this world of selfishness represented in Hemingway s canon, the lost, lamented for values include faith, hope, and security as well as fertility, creativity, love, peace, and human brotherhood for maintaining life. . . . Harry s last words, A man alone ain t got no bloody fucking chance (THAHN 225), imply that togetherness may be the first step toward healing. • 33. Real Textile and Domestic Wastewater Treatment by Novel... The microbial fuel cell (MFC) is an upsurging technology in the field of bio energy generation along with wastewater treatment. The microbial fuel cell generates energy with the help of microbes that makes it green future source of energy. In MFC, anaerobic microbes degrade organic matter and produce hydrogen ions (H+) and electrons (e ) at the anode. H+ ion diffuses through the proton exchange membrane (PEM); and e are transported through an electrode via an external circuit to the cathode. At a cathode, e and H+ ions combine with oxygen to form water (H2O), this results in power generation [1]. MFC has limited open circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.14 V because of the standard redox potential of NADH/ NAD+ and O2/H2O of 0.32 V and +0.82 V ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally treatment processes are classified as physical, chemical or biological. Physical treatment process includes physical extraction of dyes by adsorption [8], membrane filtration [9] and ion exchange. However, extracted dyes not be recovered, high cost and yet requirement of another process to degrade dyes makes these processes unsustainable. Chemical methods as Chemical Oxidation [10], Ozonization [11] and Electrochemical degradations are uneconomical and unfavorable for the environment. Biological methods are based on anaerobiotic or aerobiotic, microbial culture. But purely anaerobic digestion of azo dye produces carcinogenic aromatic amine and aerobic deterioration alone is not able to degrade all dyes, also result in high amounts of sludge [12 14]. Sequential application of anaerobic followed by aerobic degradation has been providing a solution with the advantage of economic, reliable and ecological benefits [15,16]. Real textile wastewater (RTW) has low biological oxygen demand (BOD) to the chemical oxygen demand (COD) ratio, which implies chemical treatment is required. RTW also has greater color appearance; high total dissolved solid (TDS), suspended solids (SS), high temperature and variable pH (from 5 to 9) depending on dye. On the other hand, domestic wastewater has almost neutral pH, high BOD, normal temperature and high volume as well. Gingell and Walker [17] proposed two step mechanism for degradation of azo dyes Step 1 is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The History Of The Orff Schulwerk Approach To Music Education Introduction The Orff Schulwerk ( Schulwerk being the German translation for school work ) approach to music education is one of the most commonly used methods of teaching music in the twenty first century. This interactive method of music education is most commonly used for elementary students, but can be applied to teach secondary students as well. Developed by composers Carl Orff (1895 1982) and Gunild Keetman (1904 1990), the Orff Schulwerk method focuses on teaching students by using elemental music, meaning music that children are naturally inclined to make, similar to the natural way that children learn speech and language. The Orff Schulwerk method also places a strong emphasis on the areas of exploration and experience. The History of the Orff Schulwerk Method Carl Orff was born in Munich, Germany on July 10, 1895. After his schooling and his tenure in the German army, Orff began intensely studying 16th and 17th century music. Orff founded the Güntherschule, a movement school, with Dorothee Günther in 1924; the students (numbering seventeen) ranged from ages 18 to 22, and were all female. Orff wrote that improvisation was the beginning foundation for making elemental music, particularly rhythmic improvisation. Orff s emphasis on elemental music likely stemmed from the work of Wassily Kandinsky, who wrote on the internalization of movement for dance forms that would emerge in the future. Students from Orff s school began performing and using improvisation on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The A on her chest stood for Adultery, Hester had to stand in front of the town s people where she was constantly judged by them. James 4:12 reads There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you who are you to judge your neighbor ? The bible also states that whoever is without sin throw the first stone meaning that everyone sins. If the world had to wear their sin, people would be judgmental, compare or help others through their sin, asked for forgiveness yet still have to wear your sin lastly, if everyone had to wear their sin, the world would be a less secretive place. Hester committed adultery after her husband left her for a long period of time, she found love with the towns minister Dimmesdale. It is through social construction that humans have constructed definitions and accepted understandings out of surrounding concepts, thus allowing them to make a socially accepted concept that can be utilized as a baseline of understanding. Galbin (2015) defines social constructionism as, a theory of knowledge of sociology and communication that examines the development jointly constructed understanding of the world (p. 48). Additionally, White (2014) points out that social construct is the way people view reality (p. 4), or how things really are to the human understanding. When defining terrorism, either domestic or international use, it is evident that a social construct is present. It is difficult to define or categorize the forms of a terrorist act, or what constitutes as a terrorist act based on what each party agrees to be an actual form of terrorism. These issues within terrorism and crime emerge due to the vast diversity within the United States and the world. A law abiding citizen in the United States could easily be breaking many laws in another country due to the social construct that is present. Or even a belief system or political agenda might be accepted by one group while considered extremists or terroristic in nature by others. Furthermore, social constructionism and its role in terrorism and crime are based on who is looking through the viewfinder at that specific point in time. There is an understanding and belief that there is crime and terrorism throughout the world, yet specifically pinpointing an underlining understanding of what terrorism and crime is has not been widely accepted (White, 2014, p. 4). It goes without saying that perception is based on reality and that everyone has different perceptions, beliefs, and ideas that each produces a different reality, even when it comes to defining terrorism and ... • 37. The Gulag Camp System In The 1930 s The Gulag Camp System was established in the Soviet Union during the 1930 s. These camps forced people to do intense labor under harsh conditions. Whether large or small, each camp was known for its brutality. During these harsh times it was hard to ignore what was going on, however no one could prevent it from happening. People feared for their lives when the thought of Gulags came up, as referenced in the book 1984, written by George Orwell. The term Gulag is a Russian acronym for Glavany Upravlenie Lagerey meaning, camp . These camps operated for two main reasons: a way to deal with prisoners and unwanted individuals; and also helped build the infrastructure by forced labor (Hayes). During Joseph Stalin s campaign the camps grew tremendously. The camps varied in size, however the largest camps were located in the most extreme regions in the country. Work was mostly manual, unskilled, and inefficient. While working in the camps, prisoners had to work for their food. The more work they did, the more food they earned. A variety of different things led to a high death rate among the camps (Gulag). Some people believe that Stalin began the camps, however Vladimir Lenin was the real father of the Gulag System (Hayes). The first of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cardiac muscle is made of myocardial cells which can be further divided into autorhythmic and contractile cells. The autorhythmic cells are composed of sinoatrial (SA) nodes and atrioventricular (AV) nodes. These nodes contain pacemaker cells that control heart rate by producing pacemaker potentials. An example of a pacemaker potential is shown in Figure 1. The potential goes from slow depolarization to rapid depolarization to a peak and lastly to a repolarization phase. In the slow depolarization phase, funny channels, which are special slow sodium channels found in the pacemaker cells, open and Na+ flows in and depolarizes until threshold is reached. • 40. My Yoga Journey This is not a book about how to practise yoga postures but rather an approach as to how to include a search for consciousness in every aspect of yoga. Our yoga journey is the tool for understanding. My yoga journey started more than ten years ago with an intense and dedicated interest in learning yoga postures from Ashtanga, Hatha, Jivamukti, etc. In the beginning I practised most days of the week and imagined that I would never tire, in spite of long trips to the studio in the early hours of the morning. A pleasant reward was that my blood pressure dropped back to normal and I could stop taking medicines. So, from the start, I knew that yoga could provide health benefits as well as an enormous feeling of wellbeing. No matter how tired and fed up one felt at the beginning of a session, the mental lift afterwards was deeply satisfying. Meditation, Savasana, or corpse posture, wound up every session so it also became clear that postures or asanas were only part of the remedy. Meditation and yoga practise from the very beginning fired my interest in searching for an inner consciousness.
