The Massacre At Wounded Knee Analysis
The Massacre at Wounded Knee First, and foremost, the battle between the white man and the Indian
Nation is a poignant historical portrayal of what took place at the Wounded Knee Massacre. It was all
set in motion in the Moon When the Deer Shed Their Horns , a Sioux moon of December. The Sioux
were so distraught about the assassination of Sitting Bull; they could not muster an uprising. The
Ghost Dance was their only hope to eradicate the white man. There was no hope on earth, and God
seemed to have forgotten us. Some said they saw the Son of God; others did not see Him. If he had
come, He would do some great things as He had done before. We doubted it because we had seen
neither Him nor His works. The people did not know; they did not care. They snatched at hope. They
screamed like crazy men to Him for mercy. They caught at the promise they heard He had made. The
white men were frightened and called for soldiers. We had begged for life, and the white man thought
we wanted theirs. We heard the soldiers were coming. We did not fear. We hope that we could tell
them our troubles and get help. A white man said the soldiers wanted to kill us. We did not believe it,
but some were frightened and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In April of 1868, the treaty of Fort Laramie conceded to the Sioux Black Hills, in the Dakota Territory.
Numerous miners moved into the area, one such miner discovering gold. In 1874, The US government
sent General Custer and one thousand men on the Black Hills Expedition to investigate the gold
discovery, and natural resources, Custer s confirmation, and anticipation of the gold discovery led
many settlers into the Black Hills. Therefore, the fueling tension between the whites, US government,

Snow Flower And The Secret Fan Analysis
In the novel Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, by Lisa See, the role of women presented by the author
incorporates historical context of societal value and conventions, reveals the agonizing subjugation
necessary for life, and explores the subtleties of female power in a male centric world. Through
characterization, dialogue, and imagery, the meaning behind the story of two friends reveals itself. Set
in rural China in the early to mid 1800s, historical context plays a major role in defining the value
placed on women by their society. Seen from the beginning, a young girl in a family acts only as a
burden on them by being an extra mouth to feed and less valuable than a son. Young women at the
time were only given value based on who they married, whether they had sons, and if they followed
the conventions set before them. The main character, Lily states that her mother looked at her as a
temporary mouth to feed and a body to dress until I went to my husband s home (See 12). By setting
the stage of the time period, See defines the role of women as child bearers first, and servants to her
husband s family second. Despite protests to that idea in contemporary times, women then understood
their roles as being miserable so that their children may one day succeed. Pain and convention
controlled a woman s everyday life, such as, When a girl, obey your father; when a wife, obey your
husband; when a widow, obey your son (See 24). Women held the lowest status in the social

Martin Luther s Impact On The History And Development Of...
Martin Luther: Impact on the history and development of the German language German is a West
Germanic language that is mainly spoken in Central Europe. It is the most widely spoken and (co )
official language in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, South Tyrol (Italy), the German speaking
Community of Belgium, and Liechtenstein. It is also one of the three official languages of
Luxembourg. German is the second most widely spoken Germanic language, after English. One of the
major languages of the world, German is the first language of about 95 million people worldwide and
the most widely spoken native language in the European Union. German also is the fourth most
widely taught non English language in the US (after Spanish, French and American Sign Language)
and third in the EU (after English and French; at lower secondary level),the second most commonly
used scientific language, as well as the fourth most widely used language on websites (after English,
Russian and Japanese). German derives most of its vocabulary from the Germanic branch of the Indo
European language family. A portion of German words are derived from Latin and Greek, and fewer
are borrowed from French and English. With slightly different standardized variants (German,
Austrian, and Swiss Standard German), German is a pluricentric language. German can be divided
into different historical eras, Old High German (early as 700 1050 A.D.), Middle High German (1050

Similarities Between Antwone Fisher And Fences
Defeating Battles In August Wilson s play, Fences, Bono says, Some people build fences to keep
people out... and other people build fences to keep people in (Wilson 61). Due to past experiences,
many people keep their anger inside and alienate the people they are close to. For example, Troy, in
Fences, experiences a rough childhood while growing up. This is brought about due to neglect by his
father. Because of this, Troy makes the decision to isolate the people who are close to him. Troy has
an affair with Alberta; therefore, he alienates Rose, his wife. Similarly, in the film Antwone Fisher, the
main character, Antwone is sexually abused in his foster home. Antwone is afraid to be in a
relationship with Cheryl because he feels he cannot allow anyone into his inner sanctum. The young,
male protagonists in both the film Antwone Fisher and the play Fences share a connection in that they
suffer from abuse during their childhoods, and now isolate themselves from others as ... Show more

Because of the hard conflicts in Troy s life, it shaped how he was treating Rose. Alberta helps Troy
escape from the real world. Troy avoided his responsibility towards Rose, repeats the same mistakes
of his father, and later dies from a heart attack . In comparison, Antwone went through a series of
counselling to help him come to terms with the past. As Davenport helped him move on with his life;
he reinforces the meaning of the word forgiveness, which means, Regard without ill will despite an
offense... (Antwone.n.pag.). This concept is something Troy was not taught in his adulthood, which
caused him to act the way he does. He does not conquer the past and deal through the issues of his
childhood. Antwone Fisher achieved a healthy lifestyle with the help of Davenport and is, therefore,

The Role Of A Nurse And Social Services
This essay aims to consider the role of a nurse in relation to the care of an elderly patient, this can be
planned using the care planning cycle both whilst in hospital and before discharge. It will also look at
the role social services play when deciding on the patients future care needs. The role of the nurse and
social services can be explained by looking into the bio medical and socio medical models of health.
Good communication is vital when taking care of an elderly patient and this will be discussed within
the communication cycle. It is important to consider the disease processes in old age and how the
support and treatment relates to the care value base and rights of the client along with the NMC code
of conduct and legislation in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It made the task of personal care very difficult. Mr Williams still appears disinterested and has not
been eating much at all. However he appears to have struck up a bond with a day time nurse who he is
happy to engage with and seems to trust. Mr Williams has been assigned a Social Worker whose role
is to assess and decide whether he is in a safe position to return home or if it would be beneficial to
him to be placed within a care home.
This essay will discuss all aspects of Mr Williams stay within hospital and his options with regards to
future care beyond discharge.
On admission to hospital a nurse would implement a care plan to help Mr Williams through his time in
hospital. A care plan aims to meet the individual needs of a patient and one highly used approach can
be defined as a person centered. This was first developed by Dr Carl Rogers between the 1940s and
1960s and was considered radical and at the time revolutionary. His theory pushed towards the
individual to seek out and fulfil their own personal potential whilst the therapist would create an
environment where a person would psychologically and physically feel free from any threat, this
would ultimately be achieved by a positive, genuine and empathetic setting created by the therapist.
These ideas have since been transferred to many roles where people are in relationships such as
childcare, teaching and patient care as is the case with Mr

Symbolism In The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein
The act of unconditional giving is held in high regards by many cultures as the highest form of love.
From birth on, parents are there for all the ups and downs in their child s life. Shel Silverstein, author
of The Giving Tree, has written a story about the representation of the relationship between a mother
and child. In the The Giving Tree, children are welcomed to realize the effects their mother has on
their life that one seems to fail to appreciate as they adventure throughout life. Silverstein uses
symbolism to emphasize that throughout all stages of life no matter how old, busy, or tired one is, a
mom will always be willing to give them unconditional love even when she has nothing else to offer.
During childhood, children look up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Giving Tree, much later in life, the boy, now quite old, returns to the tree one last time. Though
alone and enfeebled, he is still wanting for a place to sit and rest. Yet again, the tree lovingly obliges:
straightening up her much diminished self, she invites him to sit on her stump. No matter where life
takes a person at the end of the day a mother will always be there for companionship to ward off the
loneliness even when she has nothing left to give a child. Even through all the years of children
continuously taking from their mother, she would still always want to keep giving because what
mother does not want to see her child succeed and be ultimately happy? Like all good mothers, the
tree is no doubt happy to know that she could help when needed. However more importantly, like the
ideal mother she is, the tree seems to understand both the character and limits of her own motherly
powers. She knows the very sensibilities she so carefully encouraged when the boy was young would
one day cause him to want a life of his own. She knows she must understand and accept the choices
the boy makes even when they seem unwise and misguided. She knows she cannot predict or arrange
the boy s future. Most especially, from the beginning of life she knows the life she encourages for the
boy will cost her her own, She anticipates necessity by giving her young child

Fantastic Footwear Executive Summary
Fantastic Footwear s initial business level strategy is to execute an integrated low cost leadership
differentiation strategy. We believe this will work the best because our company s focus is to create
shoes with medium quality at a low cost. Utilizing this strategy, we plan to balance a quality shoe and
a reduction in the cost of production and distribution. To achieve differentiation, we will focus on
enhancing the SQ rating. Increasing our SQ rating will require finding the optimal ratio between
standard and superior materials; however, allocation of the percentage for the materials will largely
depend on the fluctuations of their prices, so if prices for superior materials increase due to large
demand, then we will look towards leaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The increased productivity should offset the spending on training and incentives for workers. In the
integrated low cost leadership differentiation strategy, we hope to minimize cost in the distribution and
cost of production. With existing plants in Asian and North America, increase capacity and production
in those factories first before opening new productions in Europe and Latin America. While the
wholesale market makes up a majority of our shoe sales, it is important for us to hold a strong online
presence. Consumers will find more models available on our online stores and receive free shipping
for their purchases. It is also critical for us to try to enter the private label early because the market is
expected to grow 10% for the first four years and we hope to gain a large market share over our
competitors. Entering the private label would offer competitive advantage because it would decrease
the cost per unit and spread our fixed production costs, however if price bids start a bidding war, then
it is best to leave the private

The Winning Kick
The Winning Kick In football, many games come down to the last wire to where many kickers seem to
succeed while many others often fail. Kickers seem to fail under various amounts of pressure due to
crowd noise, not good with pressure, or cannot seem to do their job so their team can count on them at
in point throughout the season. But in this game, my team and I would not take failing or losing as an
option. Waking up to my alarm sounding at early morning I really don t feel like getting up as I try to
sleep in as long as I can. With my dad calling my name from downstairs and constantly calling me on
my cell phone, I finally awake my lazy self to get in the shower. As I get ready that morning
excitement of a Friday rushes through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A sigh of relief flows through my body as I see my first kick go through the uprights and it was a great
kick. With that kick being good my coach calls up the rest of the team to head back down to the field
house. Now as I sit in the field house, we receive a pregame speech that thrills all of the players and
our adrenaline shoots through the roof as we now get to walk back up the stadium to play our game.
Standing in the blow up tunnel as the band stands at the entrance of the run through, they give the final
note and we break through the entrance as our fans cheer on their boys. The game seemed to progress
faster and faster as we finally score a touchdown and the crowd goes wild. Now it was my turn to add
to the score I come out on the field for the extra point. The snap and hold are good but I pull my body
through too much and drill the side of the goal post. Right when the ball sounded against the goal post
my confidence seemed to drop lower than it has ever dropped before as I miss my first extra point of
the season. Running off the field my coach asked me what went wrong and I told him I just pulled it
and to my surprise he wasn t even mad at me as he knew my nerves were up. The game continued to
progress and before I knew it, it was already half time and we were up by a touchdown. The third
quarter seemed to go just as fast as the rest

How Did The Baroque Period Influence Today s Society
The Baroque period is the timeframe at which we can closely identify with todays society. It was a
period of great discoveries and taking huge steps as mankind to get us where we are today. While
discussing where we are in todays society, one would have to bring up the people that laid the
foundation of modern music, art, and science. From the songs we sing, art we interact with, and the
science we use in discovery, they all trace back to one of the most important time frames in history.
There is not a single piece of music, art, or science that you could not relate to this time period. The
Baroque period has influenced todays society probably more than any other past period. The Baroque
period music styles, are seen in every song that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that people could relate to. These musical pieces touched people in new ways when showing what the
sound of love, fear, and excitement were like. One of the most influential creators of these symphonies
was Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven was a deaf man that wrote and conducted many symphonies
that was notorious for loud impacts. Many people would attend his concerts to hear his music,
however, many would leave early due to the fact that it was too loud. Following Beethoven was a
conductor named Richard Wagner. Wagner wrote many of his classical pieces to follow along with
poems that would be sung along with the music. These pieces later would be called operas that
showed off high notes. The performers were encouraged to sing at high and low pitches to show off
their wide oval range. This same concept is still used and the idea of the music we listen to

The Reaction Of Zinc And Iron
Discussion:
As only 2 balloons expanded in size, the results did not provide solid evidence to completely support
the hypothesis of the practical. Having said that, the magnesium reaction time clarified its high metal
reactivity as it expanded to its optimal circumference in the 30 seconds provided. Similarly, copper did
not react at all as expected due to its low metal reactivity. However, between the maximum and
minimum metals, in terms of reactivity, aluminium, zinc and iron showed no sign of expansion in the
30 second observational time limits. Nevertheless, the aluminium balloon expanded after
approximately 40 minutes. As neither zinc nor iron reacted in this time span, it was confirmed that
aluminium had the second highest metal reactivity, as anticipated from the hypothesis. After the first,
second and last metals in the metal reactivity series were established, the remainder had to be
observed for their chemical reactions to make a valid conclusion under the time constraint provided.
From the observations between zinc and iron, it was perceived that zinc was more reactive due to
which more bubbles and gas had formed in the test tube containing acid as opposed to iron where only
occasional bubbles had developed. The metal reactivity series was confirmed from the balloon
expansions and the chemical changes that occurred.
This experiment was designed on the basis of previously obtained knowledge of metals and their
reactivity with acids. It is known that when metals

March To The Sea Essay
In March, 1864, Lincoln made Grant the commander in chief of Union forces, with the rank of
Lieutenant General. Grants strategy of Total War was to advance on the enemy from more than one
front. He believed that continual pressure on all fronts would prevent Confederate forces from
reinforcing each other. In the east, Grant s plan was to whittle down the manpower of the Army of
Northern Virginia by staging an unrelenting attack. After half a dozen epic battles, Grant s army
besieged the town of Petersburg, pinning Lee s forced down. Simultaneously, in the west General
William T. Sherman s troops were marching to Atlanta. The seized and burned the city, which was an
essential railroad junction for the Confederates. This victory guaranteed Lincolns re election in 1864,
ruining any Confederate hope of independence. Sherman s army then moved east in what is
commonly referred to as the March to the Sea , burning and destroying Georgia as he went. His
railroad men destroyed all of the rail lines that led back to Chattanooga, Tennessee, so as to deny a
vital supply line to the Confederates. By shrinking the vast amount of land, the Confederate Army
could operate within, Sherman was able to contain it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Made in India
There are about 65 million scooter owners in India. Families are forced to pile onto scooters, or make
several trips to commute. Clearly, this is not an ideal form of transportation for most people. However,
the low income in India has prohibited individuals from purchasing a vehicle than can cost more than

In an article, No, No, No, Don t Follow Us, Thomas L. Friedman, who became the New York Times

There is no question that there is a demand for cheap cars in India and it will be beneficial for their
economy to produce cars to meet that demand. Once the people s car is successful in India, India s
market will grow when they begin exporting to other fast growing markets where a relatively few
percent of people own cars. Soon India will not only be competing at the top of auto industry, but it
will be competing at the top with the innovative People s Car.
The People s Car will also provide reliable, cost efficient transportation to consumers. Tata is planning
to produce 250,000 People s Cars within the first year (Giridharadas). Considering that India s middle
class is almost 300 million, the potential for sales is enormous. Profits will be made, leading to
benefits for both India and Tata Motors. Even if the profit margins are small, the numbers of products
being sold will generate a sufficient amount to make it worthwhile for Tata Motors.
To take Friedman s point of view into consideration, we will consider the fact that cheaper cars will
increase traffic and pollution. Isn t this inevitable? In this fast paced world, everyone wants more. Let
s consider asking Americans to give up their cars for scooters or a bus ride everyday. How many of
them would allow this? Very few. I acknowledge a statement by Andrew Buncombe, a writer for The

Traits And Values In My Personal Leadership Model
Personal leadership model
Great leaders are able to identify their leadership style, and through continuous assessment of their
own abilities as leaders, they are able to develop and understand their own abilities and strengths.
When someone is able to understand his or her strengths and limitations, then they are able to develop
and grow themselves into effective leaders. This also helps them to challenge themselves to find new
skills to improve themselves through practice. After an assessment of my own abilities and strengths,
my personal theory states that a leader should be a transformational person, acting on a set of both
ethical and moral values. He or she should be able to be an inspiration, and empower others to achieve
their goals. Various traits and skills are the guiding values, which inform my personal theory. This
paper will discuss into details leadership traits, skills and values in my personal model.
Traits and behaviors
Integrity, intelligence and sociability are the top most traits of my leadership model. My intelligence is
quite superb because I have good reasoning skills, and the capability to come up with well articulated
ideas, which I am able to implement and communicate to others. In addition, I have the ability to
understand and tackle even complex issues pertaining the organization that I am leading. On the other
hand, I am a person of integrity. I don t involve myself in corrupt and immoral practices. Good leaders

Similarities Between Grendel And Beowulf
The Better Protagonist
If you have ever read the book Grendel, which is a playoff of the book Beowulf, you know the author
depicts the protagonist as a good character. The author, John Gardner, uses many techniques in his
writing to make Grendel sound like a good protagonist. He made a good argument for its protagonist
by describing other characters as evil, giving an idea of character s backstory to help guide your
opinions towards certain characters, and giving Grendel many of the traits of the nine noble virtues.
Throughout the book John Gardner describes the characters in his book Grendel to make them sound
worse than they did in the book Beowulf. An example of this is when Grendel is being killed by
Beowulf at the end of the book. He

The Issues Of The Field Of Psychology
The field of psychology is steadily expanding due to the progression in technology, which is being
driven by the advancement of civilization. More and more time is spent on the internet, which has
gradually altered the method in which primary communication takes place. Previously face to face
interaction was touted as the primary method of interfacing with one another, now communication via
the internet is almost mandatory to establish and maintain healthy relationships (Greenfield and Yan,
2006). This is especially true amongst children, adolescents and teenagers. The need for psychologists
have never been greater in order to assess how individuals are able to acclimate to this societal
change. Traditionally, there are two methods in which children, adolescents and teenagers
communicate via the internet, through social media and video games. Each primary method presents
their own unique social challenge. In response to the issues in of teenagers over use of the internet,
psychologists are providing assistance for internet addictions at a greater rate. The first method
utilized by mental health professionals is traditionally counseling and if those efforts fail, then the
potential exists for adolescents to be placed on medications. In order to establish an informative
baseline, the use of social media amongst children, adolescents and teenagers needs to be addressed.
Developmental psychologists have had a difficult time trying to identify the casual and driving

Q1. How structurally attractive is the Russian ice cream market? Discuss how its industry structure
can be made more attractive? (663 words)
The political and financial instability had greatly impacted Russian ice cream industry. The financial
crisis in 1998 and the devaluation of the ruble had greatly reduced Russian market s consumption
ability. It also increased the production cost of Russian ice cream producers who relied on external
market for raw materials. The shrinkage of frozen import market heavily impacted by the financial
crisis forced the wholesales entered the ice cream market, which intensified the competition in the

They would further squeeze the profit margin of producers. Therefore a lower cost would guarantee
better profit margin. Since consumption in this segment had a strong seasonality, the ability to recoup
the cost of extra producing capacity would be necessary to reduce the cost.
Family consumption segment was relative small, but it was the most promising. Compared with
impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm houses
in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market was
crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be adopted.
Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation would
guarantee the shelf space. A strong brand with strong customer preference would pull the demand and
increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and longer quality
guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long, supermarket would have to
discount the product as the deadline approaching.
Café and restaurant consumption segment was the most lucrative and most demanding segment.
Alignment between the products and lifestyle was the basis in this segment. A high quality product
without a prestige brand could not survive in this segment. Therefore heavy investment on adverting

the day of the test and that on the day of the test I shouldn t. I should only review my material, just
read over it once, because when I try to cram on the day of the exam that fuels my anxiety and makes

I didn t study as much as I should have. Mostly because studying is boring and I am not motivated to
do. The Oxford Royal Academy says that to make studying more enjoyable and efficient is to make it
creative. Like making mnemonics, flashcards, and turning your notes into lyrics for a song. Another
strategy they recommended was listening to music while you study because it will stimulate your
brain cells. Mozart is one of the artist that the Oxford Royal Academy believed would help.
In conclusion, although answer changing, not studying enough, and test anxiety are problems that I
will continue to face for the rest of my test taking career, I now know strategies that will aid me in not
being so affected by them. The strategies I learned were to study hard, find creative ways to study,
listen to music while you study, do not cram, skip questions you don t know, and do not go back and
change the answer to questions that you ve already answered. I believe that if I use these strategies
consistently I can get a higher score on the rest of my

The Efficacy Of Group Exposure Therapy
Introduction to the Problem Given the high number of service members returning home with
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, from Operation Iraqi Freedom, OIF and Operation Enduring
Freedom, OEF, it has been priority of the Military Health System and Veterans Affairs to identify and
implement effective treatment (This is the military, 2014). Exposure therapy is the practice of flooding
the client with images of their traumatic experience in an effort to desensitize them, and help control
and reduce their anxiety (DiMaurio, 2014). This essay will discuss the efficacy of group exposure
therapy when administered to patients with PTSD, specifically OIF and OEF veterans and service
members. The outcome in successful studies will result in a decrease in PTSD symptoms. The
applicability of the results and implementation of the treatment in alternate settings will also be
discussed. Literature Synthesis Participants Methodology Two studies analyzed the efficacy of group
based exposure therapy. Ready et al. (2012) held three groups of ten participants with primarily war
related induced PTSD. (Ready et al., 2012). Castillo et al. (2012) study treated 77 woman veterans
with primarily sexual abuse related PTSD. All patients were selected from local VA clinics in the
southern United States. DiMauro performed a meta analysis on 26 studies, with an average gruop size
of 5 participants, to determine the efficacy of exposure therapy in treating PTSD (DiMauro, 2014). All

Empowerment For Ministry Among The Philippines
Introduction An issue many pastors face today is the definitive difference between a called
professional clergy and a called laity and the necessary responsibilities for the empowerment of laity
within their specific missional context. This issue of empowerment for ministry among the laity has
long been a problem debated within the ranks of church leadership and the field of practical theology.
The average believer is faced with the challenge of developing a biblical understanding of the call of
God that is received from God for the fulfillment of their ministry, which is necessary to form a clear
understanding of the role of the laity within the church in light of the professional clergy. This paper
will focus upon the biblical understanding of the priesthood of all believers, as the laos, or people of
God and the role of the professional clergy to equip, empower and encourage laity to flourish in the
work in which God has called them to do. The development of the historical views of lay ministry
within the local church is also a necessary component that will be addressed in dealing with this
dilemma. This paper will also seek to present biblical narratives presenting the importance of the role
of both a called clergy and a called laity for the successful continuation of a biblical model of the
church within today s society. Properly Defining the Roles of Clergy and Laity within the Pentecostal
Church An essential part of defining the difference between clergy and

Why We Need To Understand Science Carl Sagan Analysis
In Why We Need to Understand Science , Carl Sagan argues the possible reasons why Americans
confuse pseudo science and real science and discusses effects of this phenomenon. According to
Merriam Webster, pseudoscience is defined as a system of theories, assumptions, and methods
erroneously regarded as scientific . It is erroneous to equate a pseudo science like astrology to a real
science like astronomy because astrology lacks the empirical data necessary to define it as a science.
Sagan says in his article that the result of this confusion can be disastrous because society is dependent
on science and technology for everything from global warming to homeland security (12 13).
Furthermore, he states this confusion is caused by the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Essentially, STEM was initiated as a concept that U.S. Department of Education could use to promote
comprehensive learning in the sciences and mathematics. This movement was facilitated by the
Committee on STEM Education which had a five step plan to use new and repurposed funds to
increase the impact of federal investments (U.S. Department of Education, Science). AVID stands for
Advanced Via Individual Determination and is a program intended to promote college readiness in
populations that are traditionally underrepresented. Even though it is not specifically focused on
science and math, it is important to mention because with the focus on education in America shifting,
more colleges are stressing importance on students preparation in these fields. One of the primary
activities that AVID uses to promote readiness is tutorials which are study groups that use specific
methods that are better correlated with science and mathematics since these are the subjects that
students have more difficulties with. AVID`s promotion of STEM becomes especially clear when one
observes the program in California because the state s public institutions are focused on these fields.
San Bernardino County in California even stated on its community indicator report that In the AVID
2013 graduating class, 87% of seniors had been accepted to at least one four year college or university
(17) which means that many students were competitive enough in STEM fields to compete with their

It s been years since I have seen him. I try my hardest to remember his body. All that comes to mind is

caring, sweet girl steal the heart of a rebel, a person who runs from things with feeling. Some people
say opposites attract but I say it s the souls that longs for eachother rather than looks or personality.
Loving him felt like destiny, like it was meant to be. One day things were perfect the next day he

The problem here is that since theOne would think that the main purpose for a bank besides managing
one s money would be giving good customer service. Excellence in customer service is the most
important tool for sustained business growth. Customer complaints are part of the business life of any
corporate entity. This is more so for banks because banks are service organizations. As a service
organization, customer service and customer satisfaction should be the prime concern of any bank.
Banks believe that by providing prompt and efficient service on to their customers, this is essential not
only to attract new customers, but also to retain existing ones because customer dissatisfaction would
spoil the bank s name and image. To provide this kind of service more fast and efficient, the major
weapon of bank is e banking.
There are several Research Design techniques that can be used to identify customer perceptions about

Discussion: Systole is the phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood
from the chambers into the arteries. My partner measured my average systole level to be 117. They
measured it by using a blood pressure cuff, and listening with a stethoscope and the steps are
discussed previously in the procedure. An average systole level of 117 is considered normal and a

Averroes Contradictions During The Crusades
The Arab armies captured Jerusalem in 638 and built mosques to declare their dominance, and they
even allowed the Christians to continue their religious practices. They even allowed the Jews to return
to Jerusalem officially for the first time since they were exiled by the Romans in 135. The Crusades
were organized by Western Christians in response to the attempts of the Muslims expansion. In the
beginning the crusaders were able to capture Jerusalem in 1099, killing around 3,000 Muslim
residents: men, women, children, and many Jews. Muslims and Christians fought each other for
centuries during the Crusades. Christians fought to regain lands taken by the Muslims and the Holy
Land where Jesus had lived and died. Salah al Din (Saladin) organized his armies and recaptures
Jerusalem in 1187. In turn, Richard I of England had captured Acre on the Mediterranean coast in the
Third crusade killing thousands of people, but it was soon recaptured by Muslim forces along with any
other crusader out posts. Approximately two thirds of the Christian world had been conquered by
Muslims around the 11th century. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

philosophy did not have many contradictions; they just had different ways of reaching the same truth.
Averroes believed that without viewing religion critically and philosophically, the deeper meanings of

that the truth cannot conflict with the Qur an because Islam is seen as the ultimate truth and in
philosophy you are searching for truth. Some Islamic philosophers, called Mutazilites, argued that

The Catcher In The Rye Essay
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about a boy named Holden Caulfield and his struggle with
life. Like any other teenager, he is simply looking for his place in the world. However, it is shown that
Holden is no ordinary teenager for he displays many signs of depression. His depression seems to
escalate throughout the novel. For example, many nights he has trouble sleeping, he also is quite the
alcoholic and a heavy smoker, he doesnt feed his body with the proper nutrients and he talks of
committing suicide at various points in the novel. Holden feels he has been alienated his whole life
and that after losing his brother Allie, there was really no place for him anywhere. Holden Caulfield is
a complex character that is in need of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last time Id eaten was those two hamburgers I had with Brossard and Ackley when we went in to
Agerstown to the movies. That was a long time ago. It seemed like fifty years ago.(105) Although
Holden is aware that he hasnt eaten in quite some time, he just hasnt felt hungry. Holdens nutrition is
just all over the place. His depression has forced him to do crazy things. For example, after a night of
drinking Holden says, I puked before I went to bed, but I didnt really have to I forced myself.(90) This
shows that Holden is hurting his body in defiantly more ways than one. Holden is also aware that he is
somewhat depressed due to his lousy feelings and inability to eat much of anything. Holden is on a
walk when he says, Id feel better if I had something to eat. So I went in this very cheap looking
restaurant and had doughnuts and coffee. Only, I didnt eat the doughnuts. I couldnt swallow them too
well. The thing is if you get very depressed about something, its hard as hell to swallow.(196) This
just goes to show that Holden is very depressed and it effects the way he handles simple tasks such as
eating. Even though he is aware of his depression, Holden does not speak of seeing a psychiatrist for
serious issues such as his malnutrition even though he should really see one.
An obvious sign of Holdens depression is the fact that he talks of committing suicide at various points
of the novel. Every time Holden is feeling really lousy he would

Inferences In Everwild By Neal Shusterman
The novel, Everwild, written by Neal Shusterman describes the motives of Mary Hightower
(otherwise known as the Sky Witch) and Nick (known as the Chocolate Ogre). Mary is determined to
put the children of Everlost in a cycling pattern for all eternity. Nick, on the other hand, is trying to get
everyone to where they were originally heading (Usually Heaven). This novel describes how they
oppose each other and their actions. Meanwhile, Allie is on a trek with Mikey McGill attempting to
locate her parents. In this story, many inferences can be created about the main characters. The
protagonist is Nick the Chocolate Ogre. Some inferences that can be formed about him include, that

when Nick tells Zinnia, Now I m ordering you to put that corsage back into the living world. Nick is
ordering Zinnia to cram a corsage on page 263. She places it in the living world and sets it on the hand
of the women who owned it in her high school prom days. Finally, Nick says to Zinnia on pages 269

living world~ just like you did to those flowers the other day. Nick wants Zinnia to cram her dog that
she had ripped from the living world. He wants her to place it back in the living world. Zinnia is
outraged but finally obeys. The actions Nick had ordered Zinnia to do was the preparation for what

Remembering episodes: a selective role for the hippocampus during retrieval.
Nature Neuroscience, Volume 3, pg 1149 1152.
Some researchers hypothesize that the hippocampus is involved in some types of memory processes
but not others. This particular study measured brain activity using fMRI during two types of memory
tasks: remember (episodic memory) and know (familiarity). A memory was considered episodic if the
person could recall the moment it was learned and familiar if they felt they recognized the word but
could not retrieve the specidic moment it was learned. The a priori (pre selected) region of interest(
ROI) in the hippocampus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among these different processes are encoding, storage, consolidation, and retrieval. This study
hypothesized that the hippocampus plays a different role in each of these. The method of this study is
especially unique because it used temporary chemical inactivation of the hippocampus, which had not
been done before. This temporary inactivation is unique because it lets the researchers selectively
assess the role of the hippocampus during each of the processes discussed above. To test encoding, the
inactivation occurred during learning of a maze task; to test retrieval, inactivation occurred during a
retention task. Results indicate the temporary inactivation of the hippocampus impairs both encoding
and retrieval. To test long term consolidation, rats were trained and then separate groups received
hippocampal treatment for different amounts of time between one and five days. Results showed that
temporary inactivation during this time period disrupts memory for the already learned task. This
study partially supports the result of the study by Eldridge et al. (2000) in that they both show the
hippocampus is necessary for memory retrieval. However, it does not address the retrieval of different
types of memory. This study also supports the idea from Wang et al. (2012) that the hippocampus may
be involved in consolidation and storage of new memories but not necessarily of older

Lily Bart Quotes
She had never been able to understand the laws of a universe which was so ready to leave her out of
its calculations (Wharton). Lily Bart, an unlucky woman who went from riches to rags, fights to retain
her position in high class society. Unfortunately, her lack of wealth and status as an unmarried 29 year
old woman makes her vulnerable to that same society. This novel explores the dark sides of humanity
and depicts the lesson that life is never fair. Lily makes her own choices, however, they are not
entirely made of her own volition. The heavy influence and expectations of Lily s environment
captures her in a deterministic system, therefore House of Mirth is a naturalist novel. Lily Bart

Lily is mostly a victim of rumors. Strangely, Lily is never described as ruined in the novel, perhaps
because she is never physically ruined but only rumored to have been ruined, by virtue of her
connection to a married man, Gus Trenor. Her connection to Trenor is of course provable because she
borrowed money from him; she is rumored to be ruined sexually because she was ruined financially.
Of course, women can t be ruined financially, as men can; in the case of House of Mirth, Lily s father:
I m ruined he says, when the fortune fails (34). But the family s fortune isn t entirely gone until Lily is
ruined as well: Lily s beauty was the last asset in their fortunes, the nucleus around which their life

  • 2. The Massacre At Wounded Knee Analysis The Massacre at Wounded Knee First, and foremost, the battle between the white man and the Indian Nation is a poignant historical portrayal of what took place at the Wounded Knee Massacre. It was all set in motion in the Moon When the Deer Shed Their Horns , a Sioux moon of December. The Sioux were so distraught about the assassination of Sitting Bull; they could not muster an uprising. The Ghost Dance was their only hope to eradicate the white man. There was no hope on earth, and God seemed to have forgotten us. Some said they saw the Son of God; others did not see Him. If he had come, He would do some great things as He had done before. We doubted it because we had seen neither Him nor His works. The people did not know; they did not care. They snatched at hope. They screamed like crazy men to Him for mercy. They caught at the promise they heard He had made. The white men were frightened and called for soldiers. We had begged for life, and the white man thought we wanted theirs. We heard the soldiers were coming. We did not fear. We hope that we could tell them our troubles and get help. A white man said the soldiers wanted to kill us. We did not believe it, but some were frightened and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Snow Flower And The Secret Fan Analysis In the novel Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, by Lisa See, the role of women presented by the author incorporates historical context of societal value and conventions, reveals the agonizing subjugation necessary for life, and explores the subtleties of female power in a male centric world. Through characterization, dialogue, and imagery, the meaning behind the story of two friends reveals itself. Set in rural China in the early to mid 1800s, historical context plays a major role in defining the value placed on women by their society. Seen from the beginning, a young girl in a family acts only as a burden on them by being an extra mouth to feed and less valuable than a son. Young women at the time were only given value based on who they married, whether they had sons, and if they followed the conventions set before them. The main character, Lily states that her mother looked at her as a temporary mouth to feed and a body to dress until I went to my husband s home (See 12). By setting the stage of the time period, See defines the role of women as child bearers first, and servants to her husband s family second. Despite protests to that idea in contemporary times, women then understood their roles as being miserable so that their children may one day succeed. Pain and convention controlled a woman s everyday life, such as, When a girl, obey your father; when a wife, obey your husband; when a widow, obey your son (See 24). Women held the lowest status in the social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Similarities Between Antwone Fisher And Fences Defeating Battles In August Wilson s play, Fences, Bono says, Some people build fences to keep people out... and other people build fences to keep people in (Wilson 61). Due to past experiences, many people keep their anger inside and alienate the people they are close to. For example, Troy, in Fences, experiences a rough childhood while growing up. This is brought about due to neglect by his father. Because of this, Troy makes the decision to isolate the people who are close to him. Troy has an affair with Alberta; therefore, he alienates Rose, his wife. Similarly, in the film Antwone Fisher, the main character, Antwone is sexually abused in his foster home. Antwone is afraid to be in a relationship with Cheryl because he feels he cannot allow anyone into his inner sanctum. The young, male protagonists in both the film Antwone Fisher and the play Fences share a connection in that they suffer from abuse during their childhoods, and now isolate themselves from others as ... Troy avoided his responsibility towards Rose, repeats the same mistakes of his father, and later dies from a heart attack . As Davenport helped him move on with his life; he reinforces the meaning of the word forgiveness, which means, Regard without ill will despite an offense... (Antwone.n.pag.). However he appears to have struck up a bond with a day time nurse who he is happy to engage with and seems to trust. Mr Williams has been assigned a Social Worker whose role is to assess and decide whether he is in a safe position to return home or if it would be beneficial to him to be placed within a care home. This essay will discuss all aspects of Mr Williams stay within hospital and his options with regards to future care beyond discharge. On admission to hospital a nurse would implement a care plan to help Mr Williams through his time in hospital. A care plan aims to meet the individual needs of a patient and one highly used approach can be defined as a person centered. This was first developed by Dr Carl Rogers between the 1940s and 1960s and was considered radical and at the time revolutionary. His theory pushed towards the individual to seek out and fulfil their own personal potential whilst the therapist would create an environment where a person would psychologically and physically feel free from any threat, this would ultimately be achieved by a positive, genuine and empathetic setting created by the therapist. These ideas have since been transferred to many roles where people are in relationships such as childcare, teaching and patient care as is the case with Mr ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Symbolism In The Giving Tree By Shel Silverstein The act of unconditional giving is held in high regards by many cultures as the highest form of love. From birth on, parents are there for all the ups and downs in their child s life. Shel Silverstein, author of The Giving Tree, has written a story about the representation of the relationship between a mother and child. In the The Giving Tree, children are welcomed to realize the effects their mother has on their life that one seems to fail to appreciate as they adventure throughout life. Silverstein uses symbolism to emphasize that throughout all stages of life no matter how old, busy, or tired one is, a mom will always be willing to give them unconditional love even when she has nothing else to offer. During childhood, children look up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Giving Tree, much later in life, the boy, now quite old, returns to the tree one last time. Though alone and enfeebled, he is still wanting for a place to sit and rest. Yet again, the tree lovingly obliges: straightening up her much diminished self, she invites him to sit on her stump. No matter where life takes a person at the end of the day a mother will always be there for companionship to ward off the loneliness even when she has nothing left to give a child. Even through all the years of children continuously taking from their mother, she would still always want to keep giving because what mother does not want to see her child succeed and be ultimately happy? Like all good mothers, the tree is no doubt happy to know that she could help when needed. However more importantly, like the ideal mother she is, the tree seems to understand both the character and limits of her own motherly powers. She knows the very sensibilities she so carefully encouraged when the boy was young would one day cause him to want a life of his own. She knows she must understand and accept the choices the boy makes even when they seem unwise and misguided. She knows she cannot predict or arrange the boy s future. Most especially, from the beginning of life she knows the life she encourages for the boy will cost her her own, She anticipates necessity by giving her young child ... We believe this will work the best because our company s focus is to create shoes with medium quality at a low cost. Utilizing this strategy, we plan to balance a quality shoe and a reduction in the cost of production and distribution. To achieve differentiation, we will focus on enhancing the SQ rating. Increasing our SQ rating will require finding the optimal ratio between standard and superior materials; however, allocation of the percentage for the materials will largely depend on the fluctuations of their prices, so if prices for superior materials increase due to large demand, then we will look towards leaning ... While the wholesale market makes up a majority of our shoe sales, it is important for us to hold a strong online presence. Consumers will find more models available on our online stores and receive free shipping for their purchases. It is also critical for us to try to enter the private label early because the market is expected to grow 10% for the first four years and we hope to gain a large market share over our competitors. Kickers seem to fail under various amounts of pressure due to crowd noise, not good with pressure, or cannot seem to do their job so their team can count on them at in point throughout the season. But in this game, my team and I would not take failing or losing as an option. Waking up to my alarm sounding at early morning I really don t feel like getting up as I try to sleep in as long as I can. The game seemed to progress faster and faster as we finally score a touchdown and the crowd goes wild. Now it was my turn to add to the score I come out on the field for the extra point. The snap and hold are good but I pull my body through too much and drill the side of the goal post. Right when the ball sounded against the goal post my confidence seemed to drop lower than it has ever dropped before as I miss my first extra point of the season. Running off the field my coach asked me what went wrong and I told him I just pulled it and to my surprise he wasn t even mad at me as he knew my nerves were up. These musical pieces touched people in new ways when showing what the sound of love, fear, and excitement were like. One of the most influential creators of these symphonies was Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven was a deaf man that wrote and conducted many symphonies that was notorious for loud impacts. Many people would attend his concerts to hear his music, however, many would leave early due to the fact that it was too loud. Following Beethoven was a conductor named Richard Wagner. Wagner wrote many of his classical pieces to follow along with poems that would be sung along with the music. These pieces later would be called operas that showed off high notes. • 12. The Reaction Of Zinc And Iron Discussion: As only 2 balloons expanded in size, the results did not provide solid evidence to completely support the hypothesis of the practical. Having said that, the magnesium reaction time clarified its high metal reactivity as it expanded to its optimal circumference in the 30 seconds provided. Similarly, copper did not react at all as expected due to its low metal reactivity. However, between the maximum and minimum metals, in terms of reactivity, aluminium, zinc and iron showed no sign of expansion in the 30 second observational time limits. Nevertheless, the aluminium balloon expanded after approximately 40 minutes. As neither zinc nor iron reacted in this time span, it was confirmed that aluminium had the second highest metal reactivity, as anticipated from the hypothesis. After the first, second and last metals in the metal reactivity series were established, the remainder had to be observed for their chemical reactions to make a valid conclusion under the time constraint provided. From the observations between zinc and iron, it was perceived that zinc was more reactive due to which more bubbles and gas had formed in the test tube containing acid as opposed to iron where only occasional bubbles had developed. The metal reactivity series was confirmed from the balloon expansions and the chemical changes that occurred. This experiment was designed on the basis of previously obtained knowledge of metals and their reactivity with acids. It is known that when metals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the east, Grant s plan was to whittle down the manpower of the Army of Northern Virginia by staging an unrelenting attack. After half a dozen epic battles, Grant s army besieged the town of Petersburg, pinning Lee s forced down. Simultaneously, in the west General William T. Sherman s troops were marching to Atlanta. Empowerment For Ministry Among The Philippines Introduction An issue many pastors face today is the definitive difference between a called professional clergy and a called laity and the necessary responsibilities for the empowerment of laity within their specific missional context. This issue of empowerment for ministry among the laity has long been a problem debated within the ranks of church leadership and the field of practical theology. The average believer is faced with the challenge of developing a biblical understanding of the call of God that is received from God for the fulfillment of their ministry, which is necessary to form a clear understanding of the role of the laity within the church in light of the professional clergy. This paper will focus upon the biblical understanding of the priesthood of all believers, as the laos, or people of God and the role of the professional clergy to equip, empower and encourage laity to flourish in the work in which God has called them to do. The development of the historical views of lay ministry within the local church is also a necessary component that will be addressed in dealing with this dilemma. A memory was considered episodic if the person could recall the moment it was learned and familiar if they felt they recognized the word but could not retrieve the specidic moment it was learned. The a priori (pre selected) region of interest( ROI) in the hippocampus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among these different processes are encoding, storage, consolidation, and retrieval. This study hypothesized that the hippocampus plays a different role in each of these. The method of this study is especially unique because it used temporary chemical inactivation of the hippocampus, which had not been done before. This temporary inactivation is unique because it lets the researchers selectively assess the role of the hippocampus during each of the processes discussed above. To test encoding, the inactivation occurred during learning of a maze task; to test retrieval, inactivation occurred during a retention task. Results indicate the temporary inactivation of the hippocampus impairs both encoding and retrieval. To test long term consolidation, rats were trained and then separate groups received hippocampal treatment for different amounts of time between one and five days. Results showed that temporary inactivation during this time period disrupts memory for the already learned task. This study partially supports the result of the study by Eldridge et al. (2000) in that they both show the hippocampus is necessary for memory retrieval. However, it does not address the retrieval of different types of memory. This study also supports the idea from Wang et al. (2012) that the hippocampus may be involved in consolidation and storage of new memories but not necessarily of older ... • 33. Lily Bart Quotes She had never been able to understand the laws of a universe which was so ready to leave her out of its calculations (Wharton). Lily Bart, an unlucky woman who went from riches to rags, fights to retain her position in high class society. Unfortunately, her lack of wealth and status as an unmarried 29 year old woman makes her vulnerable to that same society. This novel explores the dark sides of humanity and depicts the lesson that life is never fair. Lily makes her own choices, however, they are not entirely made of her own volition. The heavy influence and expectations of Lily s environment captures her in a deterministic system, therefore House of Mirth is a naturalist novel. Lily Bart resembles that of a scholarship student in a clique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lily is mostly a victim of rumors. Strangely, Lily is never described as ruined in the novel, perhaps because she is never physically ruined but only rumored to have been ruined, by virtue of her connection to a married man, Gus Trenor. Her connection to Trenor is of course provable because she borrowed money from him; she is rumored to be ruined sexually because she was ruined financially. Of course, women can t be ruined financially, as men can; in the case of House of Mirth, Lily s father: I m ruined he says, when the fortune fails (34). But the family s fortune isn t entirely gone until Lily is ruined as well: Lily s beauty was the last asset in their fortunes, the nucleus around which their life was to be rebuilt ...
