Another type is Rheumatoid arthritis. It is what s known as an inflammatory arthritis. It is the second
most common form of arthritis, right behind osteoarthritis. It affects primarily the small joints in the
hands and feet, causing crippling deformities. This is an arthritis that usually starts in middle life or
earlier. Estimates say one out of every hundred people, (females are two to three times as likely) suffer
from it. It usually starts in the winter and after a common sickness, but it isn t considered an infective
arthritis. Nobody knows what causes rheumatoid arthritis. It could be some hereditary trait. Scientists
think that rheumatoid arthritis may be an autoimmune disease (that means the body acts as though it
were allergic to itself). The immune system gets mixed up and attacks normal joint tissue instead of
the infection it is supposed to attack.
Polyarteritis Nodosa is also an inflammatory arthritis. It can even be life threatening. However, it is a
rarer form of arthritis. It affects four times as many males as females, and of those, mostly young
adults. Some symptoms are joint and muscle pain, ulcers, sores on the legs, and gangrene on your
fingers and toes (because of cut off blood supply to those parts). The organs of the body are almost
always all involved. Symptoms like sudden blindness, hemiplegia, and heart disease

Sjogren s Syndrome Research Paper
Sjogren s Syndrome
Sjogren s Syndrome is an auto immune disorder that affects the entire body. The immune system
protects our bodies from disease and infection, but with an autoimmune disease, the immune system
attacks healthy cells in the body by mistake (Autoimmune Diseases, 2017). In Sjogren s syndrome, the
immune system attacks the glands that make tears and saliva. (Sjogren s Syndrome, 2017). Pathogenic
organisms and other foreign substances are detected by T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes because
they contain antigens (McKinley, et al, p. 684). The immune system is generally very effective in
distinguishing a self antigen from foreign antigens; however, a malfunction involves the immune
system reacting to self antigens as if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A marine biome is a large aquatic zone that takes up almost 75% of Earth s surface, has a salt
concentration around 3%, and is distinguished from other biomes by its physical environment.
According to Campbell Essential Biology with Physiology, (2010), the habitats of a marine biome
varies depending on the level of the sea that it exists (pp.382). The layers or zones that make up the
marine biome consist of the pelagic realm, the intertidal zone, the photic zone, the aphotic zone, and
the benthic realm. The pelagic realm is the part of the marine biome that includes all open water.

Other marine life that exist in this ecosystem prey on other species for food, such as shark, octopus,
and larger fish prey on smaller marine life for food. Herbivory is a large part of the marine life, which
is the consumption of plant parts or algae by an animal. Phytoplankton, known as algae and other
plants of the marine environment is the producer for food of many species living in this ecosystem.
The consumer relies directly or indirectly on the output of the producers. A main hazard to this
ecosystem caused by humans would be pollution. The acid precipitation, toxic chemicals, and other
contaminants are harming the aquatic environment, and it contributes to the dwindling population of
species in this ecosystem. According to (Dickey, Reece Simon, 2010), this human behavior has
contributed to the decline in commercial fish species, dying coral reefs, and even the closing of some
beaches due to pollution. The abiotic factors present in this ecosystem consist of temperature, light,
water, minerals, and air. Majority of organisms living in this aquatic environment require specific
temperatures to survive, although temperatures can vary according to the species. Obviously, water is
a part of the aquatic environment, and is actually essential to all parts of life. Light plays a major part
in the photosynthesis process for many organisms

Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act Essay
Child abuse and neglect incidence rates are approximately ten times higher than the incidence rates for
cancer. The incident rates for child abuse and neglect are 40 children per 1,000 children every year.
The incidence rates for cancer patients are 3.9 people per 1,000 people every year. According to Frank
Putnam (2005), We find an incidence rate for child abuse and neglect that is about ten times as high as
the incidence rate for all forms of cancer...There is a multi billion dollar research base reliably
renewed on an annual basis for cancer treatment and prevention. Nothing remotely similar to this
exists for child abuse and neglect (p. 1). The 2001 federal fiscal year budget was $3.74 billion for the

This adds to be an annual cost of approximately $56 billion to the victims and taxpayers. CAPTA is
supported by the government by keeping it a regulated policy as well as monetary support by grants.
(The Leadership Council on Child Abuse and Interpersonal Violence, 2005). While children benefit
most from CAPTA, entire families benefit as well. CAPTA has raised awareness for child abuse and
neglect. This makes it easier for families to recognize when suspicious activities occur, which gives
the members of the families an opportunity to help the child before large amounts of harm occur.
Children are the intended beneficiaries of CAPTA. They are well represented by the act through
defining child abuse as well as the reauthorizations and changes in the policy to prevent child abuse
and neglect. As the policy advances, children will be better represented. This will provide many
opportunities to help even more children into safety. CAPTA is an example of change brought about
by conflict. Although this tends to mean conflict between political parties, that is not how it is meant
in this situation. Here, the conflict is the abuse by the parent to the child. Society saw the issue and
government stepped in. They had excellent decision making skills to bring this policy to action. The
law is very important in the politics of CAPTA. Each state that adopts CAPTA is

Obesity Is A Large Problem That The United States Faces...
Health is important because the healthier you are the less likely you are to have illnesses and injuries
and the more likely you are to be able to help out others in your community. Health has three
components to it. Health includes physical activity, healthy diet, and mental health. Unhealthy
lifestyles are usually expressed through obesity. Although, you can eat healthy and not exercise, and
vise versa, the maximum level of health is achieved through the combination of physical activity,
healthy diet, and good mental health. Being healthy is important because it brings out the best in a
person.
Unhealthy lifestyles are commonly expressed through obesity. Obesity is a large problem that the
United States faces today. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, also known as
the CDC, 34.9% of the United States adult population is obese and 17% of adolescents from ages 2 19
are obese. The lack of energy equilibrium in the body is what commonly causes obesity. The energy
that is consumed through food is the energy that goes into your body. Energy is released from your
body when you breath, digest, and preform physical activities. When the energy absorbed is less than
the energy used people lose weight. When the energy absorbed and used is equal people maintain the
weight they are in. When the energy absorbed is more than the energy used people can become
overweight. The lack of physical activity and the abundance of energy, calories, in a typical daily

Today s Day And Age Sexuality And The Advertising Market
~~Forces of Nature: Research In today s day and age where sexuality and the need to be thin has
become prominent in both fashion and the advertising market, it is important to create product for
everyone in mind. The purpose of Forces of Nature s research is to determine if there is a market in
producing clothing that is made with the everyday girl in mind. We do know that the teen market is a
force all on its own, raking in over $1.76 billion dollars in the year 2001. As more and more children
and teens are taking on the responsibility of choosing their clothes, shoes and cosmetics, they are
looking for items that suit them in a more sophisticated manner at a price that fits their budget
(Henson, 2002). The company needs to make sure that we are not producing items that fit an adult
lifestyle more than a teen one. While there is a tendency to view them as little adults it does not work
this way in their mind. They have their own likes and dislikes and definitely do not want a product
that their mother thinks is cool. Just like with the cosmetic industry, forces of nature wants to give
teenage girls styles the fit their personalities and their pocketbook (Marchie, 2001). One way of doing
this is to go into the school setting, as FIM did for Brylcreem s hair gel. They brought the product to
the children and were able to gather first hand information on what the student s liked and disliked
about the product. This

Solution Of Ocean Pollution
3 Jordan Horn Problem/Solution Mr. Kucharik Oceanic Waste The ocean is a vast, and magnificent
body of water; it stretches for miles all over the world. In truth, 71 percent of the earth is water
covered, moreover, 96.5 percent of all the water contained within the Earth is ocean water
(water.usgs.gov). Comprised within these bodies of water the Indian, Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic
oceans, are millions of sea animals. These animals alike are at a high danger risk, due to waste and
debris throughout these oceans, such as, plastic, metal, rubber, and other man made debris. Animals
throughout the seas have an extensive variety of space to explore and inhabit; although, not all animals
within the sea inhabit the same areas. In actuality, certain animals are, in a way, designated to a
location, and/or ocean depth, and distance from the shore. However, even though these animals inhabit
dissimilar areas, the oceanic pollution and waste build up affects all animals within these massive
masses of water, and it is up to us, as human beings, to interrupt this situation. For example, an
estimation states that 100,000 marine creatures die, each year from plastic entanglement, furthermore,
these are just the animals that are recovered (www.oceancrusaders.org pg 1). Likewise, one million
seabirds have been affected by plastic waste (www.oceancrusaders.org pg 1). We as humans are seeing

Do you believe that the officer Daniel Calef saw was Captain Preston? I do not believe that Shop
Owner, Daniel Calef, saw Captain Preston. Why? Because all of the soldiers were wearing that
uniform, they are all matching. If you look at the picture that Paul Revere drew, called the Bloody
Massacre, it shows that all the soldiers were wearing that outfit. Daniel Calef could not be sure it was
the Captain. As for seeing his face plain in the moonlight? That proves nothing. He could be easily
mistaken for another soldier. There is no solid proof that it was the officer, no true evidence. What he
saw could have been merely a simple soldiers along with the rest of them.
5. Why or why not? He s just trying to get Preston in trouble with the court so that way they can win
the war. 6. According to Robert Goddard, why did Captain Preston give the order to fire? According to
Robert Goddard, The Captain fired because an estimated group of 50 boys were all throwing
snowballs and the group, and the Captain warned them to stop, and when they didn t, he supposedly
fired.
7. How were the testimonies of Daniel Calef and William Wyat similar? They are similar because both
men think that Captain Preston gave the order to fire. Both men are convinced that the officer was
with his soldiers at the time, and that the shooting that happened was intended to

To An Athlete Dying Young Poem Analysis
Death is the cessation of all biological functions of a person or organism. The concept of death is
unique for everyone and depends on an individual s cognitive maturity, but it is most frequented with
a negative connotation. For some people, the reason why death has a negative connotation is because
dying is losing the most valuable thing that exists: life. In actuality, the resistance to death is
hardwired into the brain as part of the self preservation instinct. In addition, we have the ability to
imagine what does not exist and wonder what comes after death. The combination of self preservation
instinct and the fear of the unknown is what compounds a negative connotation of death. However,
death does not necessarily need to have a negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both essay agree that the poem follows an AABB format, making death seem rather peaceful.
According to the essay To an Athlete Dying Young by A. E. Housman , the rhyme scheme produces a
then and now feeling (To an Athlete Dying Young by A. E. Housman, para. 3). The triumphant
procession of the athlete s moment of glory is contrasted with his funeral procession: To day, the road
all runners come / Shoulder high we bring you home, /and set you at your threshold down, /
Townsman of a stiller town (To an Athlete Dying Young Literary Analysis, para. 2). This is important
because it shows the pace of life and life after death. It shows that life does not stop because of death
and those living only care about the dead initially. Life can erase any evidence of a deceased person s
life and thus, it implies the young runner will not have to witness his fame end, since he died

The Ethics Of The Arco Avon
ABSTRACT On August 18, 2015, a fire broke out in the engine room of the dredger Arco Avon. This
vessel was in the process of loading sand roughly 12 miles off Great Yarmouth, UK when a fire broke
out in the engine room. The fire was started when the third engineer attempted to repair a failed fuel
pipe that was under pressure. This high pressure fuel in the pipe ignited and broke out into the rest of
the engine room and was then suppressed by the fixed CO2 system. The fire aboard the Arco Avon
resulted in one death, Anthony Jones, the third engineer. Throughout the investigation, it was
determined that there were many shortcomings within the engineering department including, lack of
communication, poor risk assessment, and lack of work permits. INTRODUCTION The Arco Avon is
a suction dredger flagged in the United Kingdom that is owned and operated by Hanson Aggregates
Marine Limited. It was built in 1986 with a steel hull, an overall length of 98.6m, and gross tonnage of
3,474. The vessel has a minimum safe manning of 8 persons issued by the Bureau Veritas, the
classification society for the Arco Avon. The propulsion for the Arco Avon is made up of a Mirrlees

Essay on Fortune in Chaucer s Troilus and Cressida
Lady Fortune and her wheel are two of the most enduring symbols in mankind s history. Witness the
popular game show, Wheel of Fortune. While it may seem silly, it proves that something of this
concept has stayed with in our psyche, even today. The question of fortune is paramount is Chaucer s
Troilus and Criseyde. Chaucer gives the reader characters with completely conflicting ideas of Lady
Fortune and her affect on their lives. By examining Boethius s Consolation of Philosophy, the reader
can hope to find an answer for these differing views on fortune. Firstly, Boethius s influence on
Chaucer and the persona of Fortune that he presents must be examined. Once this is established as a
benchmark, the reader can fully understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You are wasting away in pining and longing for your former good fortune, she tells him (p.54). This is
because he has forgotten the true nature of Fortune. Once he comes to an understanding of Fortune
and how she works as an instrument of God, he will be healed of his sickness of depression. Boethius
then moves the conversation to a face to face discussion with Fortune. B.L. Jefferson, in his book
Chaucer and the Consolation of Philosophy of Boethius, claims that Boethius was the first to visualize
Fortune in this most personal way (p. 49). Boethius s discussion about fortune makes three different
points. Firstly, that change is the very nature of Fortune. This mutability is pointed out by Lady
Philosophy, Change is her normal behavior, her true nature...You have discovered the changing faces
of the random goddess, she tells Boethius (Consolation, p. 55). No man can stop her wheel from
turning; it goes against Fortune s very nature to do so. She can turn her face away from a man as
quickly as she turns it to him. Jefferson characterizes the argument in this way, Absolutely without
sympathy, [Fortune] cares no more for one man than another (50). Next comes the defense of Fortune
by herself. Her argument is simple: I have only taken back what was mine in the first place.
Inconstancy is my very essence, she says, it is the game I never cease to play as I turn my wheel in its
ever changing circle, filled

Author Background
According to Franklin Walker, the well known American author of such beloved titles as The Call of
the Wild, White Fang, and The Sea Wolf, was born on January 12, 1876 in San Francisco, California.
He spent much of his childhood on ranches and the streets of Oakland, as well as sailing on San
Francisco Bay. During his teenage years, London fell into strange and unfulfilling jobs that led to a
personal revelation about the importance of an education. London spent a few months educating
himself on both high school and college material, but when word of discovered gold in the Klondike
spread, London, at the age of twenty one, left his home to participate in the hunt for treasure. He
published a short story collection called The Son of the Wolf in 1900 and three years later his novel
The Call of the Wild awarded him new fame and notoriety. After a successful career as a writer,
London died in 1916 at the age of forty (Walker 1).

exceptional opportunity to overcome these obstacles and includes additional benefits. Therefore,
studying abroad is a beneficial opportunity to gain experience, develop a more appealing resume,
discover, and mature in several aspects.
Studying abroad
Studying abroad is a program offered at some colleges/universities to their students, in which a
student has the educational opportunity to live in a foreign country and attend a foreign university. A
student majoring in Deaf Studies can practically go anywhere; however, essentially for a beginner in

Social Contract Theory
Using the Social Contract Theory to argue against increased regulation of guns, Timmons of Disputed
Moral Issues (p.29) defines the Social Contract Theory as, An action is morally right if and only if
(and because) it is permitted by a set of moral principles that hypothetical agents would agree to under
conditions that are ideal for choosing moral principles (the precise characteristics of the hypothetical
agents and ideal conditions to be spelled out) . As I attempted to analyze the social contract theory, I
translated this theory as meaning in some circumstances gun usage can be morally justified and is
thereby permitted for the safety and lives of the innocent. For example, if an armed or unarmed
subject was to enter a home posing a threat towards the homeowner, the homeowner has the right to
bear arms to protect oneself as well as the family s life.
Next, with so much crime occurring in the world today, many adults, excluding people with mental
illnesses, should have the right to possess guns for protection from bodily harm, but the guns should
be locked away in a safe that is easily accessible to the owners only. Additionally, no child should
have access to their parents guns without permission. As far as permission goes, a child may have
permission from their parents to hunt or target ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, all sane adults should have protection. Next, if a person is being severely beaten by several
bullies and no one attempts to break up the fight or call the police, that severely beaten person should
be able to defend themselves however they see fit to possibly keep the bullies from harming others
later. However, the element of surprise to a criminal could possibly force that subject to run off. For
example, if the victim was armed with a gun and the subject did not expect the victim to have a gun in

Urban Parks Essay
Like most Americans, I expect to find in every city, every town, even in every village in the country,
an outdoor recreation area or what is usually called a park; and I am seldom disappointed. No matter
how new and unfinished a town may be, or however old and poor, I know that it will contain, wedged
in among the crowded blocks of buildings, a rectangular space with grass and trees and meandering
paths and perhaps a bandstand or a flagpole.
John B. Jackson, The Past and Future Park in Denatured Visions
Urban parks are defined in their comparative and contrastive relationships to the urban environments
surrounding them. Although frequently conceptualized as natural landscapes, the physical and social
uses of parks give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In American urban parks, the construction of nature as exemplified in the naturalistic park settings
speaks to the culturally determined social process of defining social spaces. Indeed, as the word
construction suggests, nature serves as an abstract ideal in urban American consciousness, which in
turn is concretely actualized as per the socio political leanings of the age. Space that is documented
and utilized by humans, whether directly or indirectly, takes on a basic level of social utility and
cultural construction. As Elias Canetti would suggest, the prospect of touch carries with it the risk of
being taken and subsequently assimilated or digested (1). The predecessors to the first great urban
parks in the United States, namely country estates, cemeteries, and town squares or plazas, all
contribute some aesthetic and related ideological basis for a newly emerging discourse of urban parks.
Parks were seen as the poor man s countryside, in reference to the country estates of the wealthy. Also,
cemeteries were the first naturalistic open spaces consistently built within urban boundaries. The idea
of the commons and town square is perhaps the most telling predecessor of the city park. The differing
immigrant populations to America each had their own version of the town square

ELL Teacher Observation
I had an opportunity to meet the ELL teacher who is responsible for educating ELL students in the
district. She allowed me to observe her teaching a couple of students at Brighton Elementary School.
The teacher informed me that she teaches ELL students using Scholastic books and a Scholastic app.
Additionally, the scholastic app is usually used to help students replace missing words in a sentence,
assist students with pronunciation, punctuation, comprehension. While I was observing her class, the
students would click on a word and the computer would pronounce the word for them. This is a really
good way for students to learn how to pronounce words accurately. I also observed her using several
strategies to facilitate these students understanding of English as a second language, for instance, she
mentioned one strategy for capital letters you step on gas and another for periods you brake . Another
strategy that she uses when teaching them to write sentences is Mr. Space , which is the size of a
Popsicle stick, and it allows the students to put appropriate spaces between each of their words. The
students are required to take a test at the end of the year to measure their progress. Students are
supposed to show growth and progress and this data is communicated to the student s parents. ... Show

Representative Heuristic And Representative Bias Definition
Representativeness Bias or Representativeness Heuristic is a shortcut in trying to associate present
people or events to past experience. It is the probability that event A is connected to event B because
they share common physical characteristics. We observe a person or object and if it shares similar
qualities from another object we are familiar with, then we assume that the object is a part of that
category. I used Legally Blonde because it is a great example of how Elle (Reese Witherspoon) was
underestimated. Elle is a blonde sorority girl, from California, and has a lot of money. She always has
the best clothes, friends, and dates. Based upon, her physical attributes, people categorize her as being

The Variety of Games in a Casino
There are quite a bit of differences and similarities across all games that I played. First, the designs are
very similar and serve their purposes well. Each design is created with an end goal in mind. The
differences however aren t as subtle. When comparing a casino game to a retro game for instance, the
differences are vast. Interactivity is one of the key differences between quite a few of these games.
Casino games, of course depending on the type, have very little interactivity. The one I played, which
was Slots, was one such example. Make a bet and keep clicking the same button over and over again
hoping for a good turn out. The retro game on the other hand made me feel like I actually had a choice
in what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go within the game. The worlds are much more expansion
when you take this into consideration. The mobile game and online game worked pretty similar as
well as far as general features. Both support a pay to win option in order to advance your character or
team further. The differences between the two were pretty expansive. One is played in one world,
which is the exact same as all of the others but with different art depending on the stadium being
played in, the other is in a seemingly open world and focuses more on resource management and
tactical battle than scoring points. Most of the games that I played provide some sort of educational
experience though. The simulation teaches people about how life is in poverty, the educational

How Did Queen Elizabeth 1 Affect Society
Queen Elizabeth I of England was a gracious, inspiring, and witty ruler that, in many ways, changed
the course of history. Her ruling allowed England to flourish, gain wealth, and change in drastic ways.
Queen Elizabeth started her rule in 1583 when she was 25 years old. Prior to Elizabeth becoming
Queen, a terrible ruler made the country of England an unstable country. This ruler was Queen Mary,
who ruled all of England and Ireland in the early 1500 s. During her rule, Mary was not a good queen.
After many years of being a Protestant nation, Queen Mary wanted to return England to its former
ways of Catholicism. However, in order to bring back the Catholic Church, Mary had to persecute
thousands of Christians, which resulted in her gaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the United States today we still have never had a female president, while hundreds of years ago
Queen Elizabeth was ruling the entire country of England without a husband (Chloe H). Her ruling
showed that a women could be both feminine and have beautiful features, yet still display male
dominant traits such as strength and intelligance. She always advocated that women could do
anything, despite of their differences (Chloe H). She was living proof that women can be independent,
and that they have the potential to do anything if they set their mind to it. She refused to marry, which
set a great example to all the women of England. Elizabeth, also known as The Virgin Queen , taught
women they do not need a husband to live a good life. During her rule, she inspired many women to
be the intelligent and independent women they were born to be. She once said, Though the sex to
which I belong is considered weak you will nevertheless find me a rock that bends to no wind (Lewis).
By saying this, Queen Elizabeth trying to tell people that even though she is not as physically strong
and able as most men, she is a smart and well educated Queen. Queen Elizabeth not only inspired the
people of her time, but inspires women today to be strong and self confident, as she

Aristotle s Legacy Essay
Extraordinary achievements have been made through ancient civilizations. Philosophers that have
changed the way we look at things every day came from the ancient Greek world, especially during
the prosperous Golden Age of Athens, Greece. Aristotle, a famous philosopher, taught his philosophy
during this period of time in Greece. Using his intellect and astounding ideas, Aristotle created a
legacy that influenced people for ages. To start off, Aristotle was a widely known philosopher in the
Ancient Greek world born in Macedonia in the year 384 B.C. Not only did he take part in philosophy,
but he also contributed poetics, political science, and biology. All of these subjects were taught at his
school, the Peripatetic School of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here he met a group of Platonists where he continued to learn about Plato s philosophy. After staying
in Assos for three years, he moved to the island of Lesbos in Mytilene until 344 B.C. It was in this
same year that the Macedonian King Philip asked Aristotle to tutor his 13 year old son Alexandros III
later to be known as Alexander the Great. From the lessons he taught Alexander, he found he had
some disagreements with Plato which he used to make up his own philosophy. Disagreements
Aristotle had with Plato included his, previously mentioned, ideal world of eternal beings . Back when
Plato was still alive and teaching Aristotle, this foreign utopia seemed reasonable, but over the years
Aristotle began to think that true reality lay in the real, tangible world, not in a world that nobody can
see. This concept began the philosophy of Aristotelianism. To teach his new philosophy, Aristotle
established a teaching facility. He moved back to Athens, Greece to find a location for his school. It
was finally decided to be located in a sacred garden for the Greek god Apollo, the Lyceum. At the
Lyceum, Aristotle collected a substantial library of scrolls, founded a museum of natural history, and
shared his thinking with his students (Cook OL). To teach his students, Aristotle wouldn t stay in a
closed space. He would rather go outside and show his students the

  • 2. arthritis Essay Arthritis. Arthritis is a disease that in some way effects everyone. Whether you have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another type is Rheumatoid arthritis. It is what s known as an inflammatory arthritis. It is the second most common form of arthritis, right behind osteoarthritis. It affects primarily the small joints in the hands and feet, causing crippling deformities. This is an arthritis that usually starts in middle life or earlier. Estimates say one out of every hundred people, (females are two to three times as likely) suffer from it. It usually starts in the winter and after a common sickness, but it isn t considered an infective arthritis. Nobody knows what causes rheumatoid arthritis. It could be some hereditary trait. Scientists think that rheumatoid arthritis may be an autoimmune disease (that means the body acts as though it were allergic to itself). The immune system gets mixed up and attacks normal joint tissue instead of the infection it is supposed to attack. Polyarteritis Nodosa is also an inflammatory arthritis. It can even be life threatening. However, it is a rarer form of arthritis. It affects four times as many males as females, and of those, mostly young adults. Some symptoms are joint and muscle pain, ulcers, sores on the legs, and gangrene on your fingers and toes (because of cut off blood supply to those parts). The organs of the body are almost always all involved. Symptoms like sudden blindness, hemiplegia, and heart disease ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sjogren s Syndrome Research Paper Sjogren s Syndrome Sjogren s Syndrome is an auto immune disorder that affects the entire body. The immune system protects our bodies from disease and infection, but with an autoimmune disease, the immune system attacks healthy cells in the body by mistake (Autoimmune Diseases, 2017). In Sjogren s syndrome, the immune system attacks the glands that make tears and saliva. (Sjogren s Syndrome, 2017). Pathogenic organisms and other foreign substances are detected by T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes because they contain antigens (McKinley, et al, p. 684). The immune system is generally very effective in distinguishing a self antigen from foreign antigens; however, a malfunction involves the immune system reacting to self antigens as if they ... • 4. Marine Biomes Marine Biomes Shonda Morton October 20, 2013 SCI/230 Paula Roberts A marine biome is a large aquatic zone that takes up almost 75% of Earth s surface, has a salt concentration around 3%, and is distinguished from other biomes by its physical environment. According to Campbell Essential Biology with Physiology, (2010), the habitats of a marine biome varies depending on the level of the sea that it exists (pp.382). The layers or zones that make up the marine biome consist of the pelagic realm, the intertidal zone, the photic zone, the aphotic zone, and the benthic realm. The pelagic realm is the part of the marine biome that includes all open water. (Dickey, Reece, Simon, 2010) explains the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other marine life that exist in this ecosystem prey on other species for food, such as shark, octopus, and larger fish prey on smaller marine life for food. Herbivory is a large part of the marine life, which is the consumption of plant parts or algae by an animal. Phytoplankton, known as algae and other plants of the marine environment is the producer for food of many species living in this ecosystem. The consumer relies directly or indirectly on the output of the producers. A main hazard to this ecosystem caused by humans would be pollution. The acid precipitation, toxic chemicals, and other contaminants are harming the aquatic environment, and it contributes to the dwindling population of species in this ecosystem. According to (Dickey, Reece Simon, 2010), this human behavior has contributed to the decline in commercial fish species, dying coral reefs, and even the closing of some beaches due to pollution. The abiotic factors present in this ecosystem consist of temperature, light, water, minerals, and air. Majority of organisms living in this aquatic environment require specific temperatures to survive, although temperatures can vary according to the species. Obviously, water is a part of the aquatic environment, and is actually essential to all parts of life. Light plays a major part in the photosynthesis process for many organisms ... The incident rates for child abuse and neglect are 40 children per 1,000 children every year. The incidence rates for cancer patients are 3.9 people per 1,000 people every year. According to Frank Putnam (2005), We find an incidence rate for child abuse and neglect that is about ten times as high as the incidence rate for all forms of cancer...There is a multi billion dollar research base reliably renewed on an annual basis for cancer treatment and prevention. CAPTA is supported by the government by keeping it a regulated policy as well as monetary support by grants. (The Leadership Council on Child Abuse and Interpersonal Violence, 2005). While children benefit most from CAPTA, entire families benefit as well. CAPTA has raised awareness for child abuse and neglect. This makes it easier for families to recognize when suspicious activities occur, which gives the members of the families an opportunity to help the child before large amounts of harm occur. Children are the intended beneficiaries of CAPTA. They are well represented by the act through defining child abuse as well as the reauthorizations and changes in the policy to prevent child abuse and neglect. As the policy advances, children will be better represented. This will provide many opportunities to help even more children into safety. CAPTA is an example of change brought about by conflict. Although this tends to mean conflict between political parties, that is not how it is meant in this situation. Here, the conflict is the abuse by the parent to the child. Society saw the issue and government stepped in. They had excellent decision making skills to bring this policy to action. The law is very important in the politics of CAPTA. • 6. Obesity Is A Large Problem That The United States Faces... Health is important because the healthier you are the less likely you are to have illnesses and injuries and the more likely you are to be able to help out others in your community. Health has three components to it. Health includes physical activity, healthy diet, and mental health. Unhealthy lifestyles are usually expressed through obesity. Although, you can eat healthy and not exercise, and vise versa, the maximum level of health is achieved through the combination of physical activity, healthy diet, and good mental health. Being healthy is important because it brings out the best in a person. Unhealthy lifestyles are commonly expressed through obesity. Obesity is a large problem that the United States faces today. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, also known as the CDC, 34.9% of the United States adult population is obese and 17% of adolescents from ages 2 19 are obese. The lack of energy equilibrium in the body is what commonly causes obesity. The energy that is consumed through food is the energy that goes into your body. • 7. Today s Day And Age Sexuality And The Advertising Market ~~Forces of Nature: Research In today s day and age where sexuality and the need to be thin has become prominent in both fashion and the advertising market, it is important to create product for everyone in mind. The purpose of Forces of Nature s research is to determine if there is a market in producing clothing that is made with the everyday girl in mind. We do know that the teen market is a force all on its own, raking in over $1.76 billion dollars in the year 2001. As more and more children and teens are taking on the responsibility of choosing their clothes, shoes and cosmetics, they are looking for items that suit them in a more sophisticated manner at a price that fits their budget (Henson, 2002). The company needs to make sure that we are not producing items that fit an adult lifestyle more than a teen one. While there is a tendency to view them as little adults it does not work this way in their mind. They have their own likes and dislikes and definitely do not want a product that their mother thinks is cool. Just like with the cosmetic industry, forces of nature wants to give teenage girls styles the fit their personalities and their pocketbook (Marchie, 2001). • 10. Solution Of Ocean Pollution 3 Jordan Horn Problem/Solution Mr. Kucharik Oceanic Waste The ocean is a vast, and magnificent body of water; it stretches for miles all over the world. In truth, 71 percent of the earth is water covered, moreover, 96.5 percent of all the water contained within the Earth is ocean water (water.usgs.gov). Comprised within these bodies of water the Indian, Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic oceans, are millions of sea animals. These animals alike are at a high danger risk, due to waste and debris throughout these oceans, such as, plastic, metal, rubber, and other man made debris. Animals throughout the seas have an extensive variety of space to explore and inhabit; although, not all animals within the sea inhabit the same areas. In actuality, certain animals are, in a way, designated to a location, and/or ocean depth, and distance from the shore. However, even though these animals inhabit dissimilar areas, the oceanic pollution and waste build up affects all animals within these massive masses of water, and it is up to us, as human beings, to interrupt this situation. For example, an estimation states that 100,000 marine creatures die, each year from plastic entanglement, furthermore, these are just the animals that are recovered (www.oceancrusaders.org pg 1). Likewise, one million seabirds have been affected by plastic waste (www.oceancrusaders.org pg 1). We as humans are seeing affects by these problems as well, for instance, in 2009 (the ... The colonists were upset about the import taxes, and many refused to buy British goods. Britain had passed tax laws which these taxes raised the prices that the colonists had to pay for necessary items such as paper, paint, glass, lead, and tea. The acts angered the colonists. The British soldiers were poorly paid, and many of them tried to get extra work on the Boston docks. In 1770 the climate in Boston was hot and getting hotter. Because all of the soldiers were wearing that uniform, they are all matching. If you look at the picture that Paul Revere drew, called the Bloody Massacre, it shows that all the soldiers were wearing that outfit. Daniel Calef could not be sure it was the Captain. As for seeing his face plain in the moonlight? That proves nothing. He could be easily mistaken for another soldier. There is no solid proof that it was the officer, no true evidence. What he saw could have been merely a simple soldiers along with the rest of them. 5. Why or why not? He s just trying to get Preston in trouble with the court so that way they can win the war. 6. According to Robert Goddard, why did Captain Preston give the order to fire? According to Robert Goddard, The Captain fired because an estimated group of 50 boys were all throwing snowballs and the group, and the Captain warned them to stop, and when they didn t, he supposedly fired. 7. • 12. To An Athlete Dying Young Poem Analysis Death is the cessation of all biological functions of a person or organism. The concept of death is unique for everyone and depends on an individual s cognitive maturity, but it is most frequented with a negative connotation. For some people, the reason why death has a negative connotation is because dying is losing the most valuable thing that exists: life. In actuality, the resistance to death is hardwired into the brain as part of the self preservation instinct. In addition, we have the ability to imagine what does not exist and wonder what comes after death. The combination of self preservation instinct and the fear of the unknown is what compounds a negative connotation of death. However, death does not necessarily need to have a negative ... Housman , the rhyme scheme produces a then and now feeling (To an Athlete Dying Young by A. E. Housman, para. 3). The triumphant procession of the athlete s moment of glory is contrasted with his funeral procession: To day, the road all runners come / Shoulder high we bring you home, /and set you at your threshold down, / Townsman of a stiller town (To an Athlete Dying Young Literary Analysis, para. 2). This is important because it shows the pace of life and life after death. It shows that life does not stop because of death and those living only care about the dead initially. Life can erase any evidence of a deceased person s life and thus, it implies the young runner will not have to witness his fame end, since he died ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Ethics Of The Arco Avon ABSTRACT On August 18, 2015, a fire broke out in the engine room of the dredger Arco Avon. This vessel was in the process of loading sand roughly 12 miles off Great Yarmouth, UK when a fire broke out in the engine room. The fire was started when the third engineer attempted to repair a failed fuel pipe that was under pressure. This high pressure fuel in the pipe ignited and broke out into the rest of the engine room and was then suppressed by the fixed CO2 system. The fire aboard the Arco Avon resulted in one death, Anthony Jones, the third engineer. Throughout the investigation, it was determined that there were many shortcomings within the engineering department including, lack of communication, poor risk assessment, and lack of work permits. INTRODUCTION The Arco Avon is a suction dredger flagged in the United Kingdom that is owned and operated by Hanson Aggregates Marine Limited. It was built in 1986 with a steel hull, an overall length of 98.6m, and gross tonnage of 3,474. The vessel has a minimum safe manning of 8 persons issued by the Bureau Veritas, the classification society for the Arco Avon. The propulsion for the Arco Avon is made up of a Mirrlees Blackstone KMR6 Mk3, 4 stroke, single acting, 6 cylinder in line diesel engine that is coupled to a controllable pitch propeller through a reduction gear. The main engine also has a shaft generator attached to the free end that is called No. 1 generator (DG 1). In addition to the shaft generator the ship also has an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was the worst mass murder at a military installation in U.S. history. • 16. Essay on Fortune in Chaucer s Troilus and Cressida Lady Fortune and her wheel are two of the most enduring symbols in mankind s history. Witness the popular game show, Wheel of Fortune. While it may seem silly, it proves that something of this concept has stayed with in our psyche, even today. The question of fortune is paramount is Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde. Chaucer gives the reader characters with completely conflicting ideas of Lady Fortune and her affect on their lives. By examining Boethius s Consolation of Philosophy, the reader can hope to find an answer for these differing views on fortune. Firstly, Boethius s influence on Chaucer and the persona of Fortune that he presents must be examined. Once this is established as a benchmark, the reader can fully understand the ... Once he comes to an understanding of Fortune and how she works as an instrument of God, he will be healed of his sickness of depression. Boethius then moves the conversation to a face to face discussion with Fortune. B.L. Jefferson, in his book Chaucer and the Consolation of Philosophy of Boethius, claims that Boethius was the first to visualize Fortune in this most personal way (p. 49). Boethius s discussion about fortune makes three different points. Firstly, that change is the very nature of Fortune. This mutability is pointed out by Lady Philosophy, Change is her normal behavior, her true nature...You have discovered the changing faces of the random goddess, she tells Boethius (Consolation, p. 55). No man can stop her wheel from turning; it goes against Fortune s very nature to do so. She can turn her face away from a man as quickly as she turns it to him. Jefferson characterizes the argument in this way, Absolutely without sympathy, [Fortune] cares no more for one man than another (50). Next comes the defense of Fortune by herself. Her argument is simple: I have only taken back what was mine in the first place. Social Contract Theory Using the Social Contract Theory to argue against increased regulation of guns, Timmons of Disputed Moral Issues (p.29) defines the Social Contract Theory as, An action is morally right if and only if (and because) it is permitted by a set of moral principles that hypothetical agents would agree to under conditions that are ideal for choosing moral principles (the precise characteristics of the hypothetical agents and ideal conditions to be spelled out) . As I attempted to analyze the social contract theory, I translated this theory as meaning in some circumstances gun usage can be morally justified and is thereby permitted for the safety and lives of the innocent. For example, if an armed or unarmed subject was to enter a home posing a threat towards the homeowner, the homeowner has the right to bear arms to protect oneself as well as the family s life. In American urban parks, the construction of nature as exemplified in the naturalistic park settings speaks to the culturally determined social process of defining social spaces. Indeed, as the word construction suggests, nature serves as an abstract ideal in urban American consciousness, which in turn is concretely actualized as per the socio political leanings of the age. Space that is documented and utilized by humans, whether directly or indirectly, takes on a basic level of social utility and cultural construction. As Elias Canetti would suggest, the prospect of touch carries with it the risk of being taken and subsequently assimilated or digested (1). The predecessors to the first great urban parks in the United States, namely country estates, cemeteries, and town squares or plazas, all contribute some aesthetic and related ideological basis for a newly emerging discourse of urban parks. Parks were seen as the poor man s countryside, in reference to the country estates of the wealthy. Also, cemeteries were the first naturalistic open spaces consistently built within urban boundaries.
