Prerequisite / Prior Knowledge:
1. The human body has different parts ( head, neck, shoulder, arm,
stomach, etc.)
2. With our human body, we can be able to monitor the world around
us through our senses.
Materials:
For online/modular: worksheet
For face-to-face: slides, worksheet, real objects
Duration: 60 mins
Value Aim - Socio-emotional Learning (SEL)
Focus: Achievement Orientation, Responsibility,
Cooperation
Thinking Skill/s used: Critical Thinking, Systems Thinking
III. PROCEDURES:
A. Review/Motivation
Greet the learners.
Have a recap on the previous lesson that the human body has
different parts with different functions. For us to monitor what is
happening around us, we use our senses.
To start with the new lesson, present the individual activity to the
learner for modular or online and use slides for face to face.
DESCRIBE ME!!!
Direction: Look at the pictures carefully. Answer the question
that follows.
What word would you use to describe these foods?
Odor:___________________ Sound: _________________ Taste: _______________
Appearance:__________ Texture: ________________
B. Activity
Introductory Activity:
As the learners finish answering the previous activity, ask these
questions:
● What are your bases in describing what is asked in the
pictures?
● What sensory organs did you use to describe the pictures?
Then, tell the learners that they will learn more on the different
sense organs. As they go on with the lesson they will also practice
achievement orientation, cooperation and responsibility.
Activity Proper:
Ask the learners to bring out their worksheet.
Tell them that they need to help the turtle reach the finish line.
For the turtle to reach the end goal, the turtle will pass a rock as
an obstacle that serves as stations. Each station has questions
that they need to answer. If they don’t cooperate and answer
correctly, the turtle cannot proceed to another station.
Instruct the learners to help the turtle reach the finish line by
answering the activities in each station correctly.
Station 1
Apple
Look at the picture. Describe the picture by finishing the
sentences using describing words.
The apple looks _______________.
The apple smells ______________.
The apple tastes ______________.
The apple surface feels ________________.
The apple sounds _____________ when eaten.
Station 2
Identify the object based on the descriptive words given. Choose
your answer from the box.

Ask the learners if they were able to answer the activities correctly
and if the turtle reached the finish line. Ask them if they also have
their goals that they need to reach. If yes, then they are like the
turtle in the activity. Just like reaching their goals, they will
encounter challenges. Challenges along the way can be overcomed
if they help themselves.
Ask the learners to share their goals whether short or long term
goals and how they can achieve it. Thus, achieving it represents
achievement orientation.
C. Analysis
After the activity, ask these questions to the learners:
1. Based on the activity, what sense organs did you use?
2. Do we really only have five senses? How can you tell?
3. What sense do we use the most?
4. What makes us hear sound?
5. What sense organ did we use to taste something?
6. How do taste buds work?
7. Why do kids like sweets the best?
8. What sense organ did we use to feel something?
9. How do your fingers feel?
10. What sense organ did we use to see things?
11. When we see a color, how do you know that everybody
else sees the same color?
12. Why are our ears shaped like this?
Note: Questions that students won’t answers satisfactorily as
misconceptions would be addressed by the teacher.
D. Abstraction / Generalization
As stated before, we have five sense organs that can receive and
relay sensory information to the brain. These senses provide an
organism with information crucial for perception.
Eyes - Sight
Obviously allow us to see. But if you break it down, they do more
than just that. Using our eyes, we can judge depth, interpret new
information, and identify color (the wavelengths of light that reflect
off surfaces).
Nose - Smell
It is used to smell scents. They get a sense for what particles are
traveling through the air, which can help us identify if dangerous
chemicals are nearby. Smell also has the strongest connection to
memory; a familiar smell can remind us of things long forgotten.
Ears - Hearing
Ears allow us to hear sound - to detect vibrations in the air particles
around us. But the inner ear also helps us maintain balance and
regulate sinus pressure. This is especially useful when you change
altitude (like, for example, when you are flying in an airplane).
Tongues - Taste
Tongues are used to taste foods, allowing us to figure out if
something is going to be useful to our bodies or poisonous. They also
allow us to sense hot and cold in food and liquids.
Skin - Touch
Last of all is the skin, which is responsible for what may be the most
important senses in the human body. The skin performs a huge
number of functions. These include:
● Perspiration (sweating) to cool the body
● Protection from the elements
● Sensing what's in contact with our bodies
● Communication with other human beings through touch
● Storage of water and lipids
● Formation of vitamin D from the Sun
● Water resistance
● Heat regulation
E. Application
Localized
This article presented that we are responsible for our senses. Sense
organs are vital organs of our body. As they help us to contact with
our surroundings, we must take special care of them. If we ignore
it, we may get affected severely.
List down ways on how to take good care of sense organs.
Sense Organ How to take care?
Eyes
Nose
Tongue
Ears
Skin
Then let learners share their ways of taking good care of the different
sense organs. Emphasize that our human body works as a whole.
For it to work well properly, its parts must coordinate and do its
function properly. If one fails, the other organs might get affected.
So, be responsible to what you do to your senses.
F. Evaluation
A. Draw the different sense organs inside the box. Name the
senses and provide their functions in the space provided.

SESSION GUIDE LS 2 - SENSE ORGANS (1).docx

  • 1. LEARNING STRAND 2 - SCIENTIFIC LITERACY AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS SENSE ORGANS LOWER/ADVANCE ELEMENTARY LEVEL SESSION GUIDE # ____ I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to: 1. identify the different sense organs; 2. draw the sense organs and give the name of the different senses; and 3. state on how to take good care of sense organs II. SUBJECT MATTER: SENSE ORGANS LS2SC-BC-PSD-LE/AE-18: Identify the the sense organs References: The senses and food https://lamoehr.weebly.com/uploads/5/2/3/6/5236966/food_ sensory_and_evaluation_scales.pdf My Five Sense https://www.commonsense.org/education/lesson-plans/my- five-senses Five Senses: Top 10 Questions https://sciencetrek.org/sciencetrek/topics/senses/topTenQs.cf m The Five Senses and Their Functions https://study.com/academy/lesson/the-five-senses-their- functions.html 11 Celebrities with Hearing Loss and How They Coped https://www.audicus.com/11-celebrities-with-hearing-loss- and-how-they-coped/ Prerequisite / Prior Knowledge: 1. The human body has different parts ( head, neck, shoulder, arm, stomach, etc.) 2. With our human body, we can be able to monitor the world around us through our senses. Materials: For online/modular: worksheet For face-to-face: slides, worksheet, real objects Duration: 60 mins
  • 2. Value Aim - Socio-emotional Learning (SEL) Focus: Achievement Orientation, Responsibility, Cooperation Thinking Skill/s used: Critical Thinking, Systems Thinking III. PROCEDURES: A. Review/Motivation Greet the learners. Have a recap on the previous lesson that the human body has different parts with different functions. For us to monitor what is happening around us, we use our senses. To start with the new lesson, present the individual activity to the learner for modular or online and use slides for face to face. DESCRIBE ME!!! Direction: Look at the pictures carefully. Answer the question that follows. What word would you use to describe these foods? Odor:___________________ Sound: _________________ Taste: _______________ Appearance:__________ Texture: ________________ B. Activity Introductory Activity: As the learners finish answering the previous activity, ask these questions: ● What are your bases in describing what is asked in the pictures? ● What sensory organs did you use to describe the pictures?
  • 3. Then, tell the learners that they will learn more on the different sense organs. As they go on with the lesson they will also practice achievement orientation, cooperation and responsibility. Activity Proper: Ask the learners to bring out their worksheet. Tell them that they need to help the turtle reach the finish line. For the turtle to reach the end goal, the turtle will pass a rock as an obstacle that serves as stations. Each station has questions that they need to answer. If they don’t cooperate and answer correctly, the turtle cannot proceed to another station. Instruct the learners to help the turtle reach the finish line by answering the activities in each station correctly. Station 1 Apple Look at the picture. Describe the picture by finishing the sentences using describing words. The apple looks _______________. The apple smells ______________. The apple tastes ______________. The apple surface feels ________________. The apple sounds _____________ when eaten. Station 2
  • 4. Identify the object based on the descriptive words given. Choose your answer from the box. crabs apples breads bananas mangos oranges Category: Food Looks: Feels: Smells: Tastes: Sounds: Object: red smooth sweet /fruity sweet / sour rough/ crunchy green or yellow smooth or soft sweet gritty and sweet hollow tan or beige rough and grainy savory bland full red or pink flaky and warm fishy salty sizzly Ask the learners if they were able to answer the activities correctly and if the turtle reached the finish line. Ask them if they also have their goals that they need to reach. If yes, then they are like the turtle in the activity. Just like reaching their goals, they will encounter challenges. Challenges along the way can be overcomed if they help themselves. Ask the learners to share their goals whether short or long term goals and how they can achieve it. Thus, achieving it represents achievement orientation. C. Analysis After the activity, ask these questions to the learners: 1. Based on the activity, what sense organs did you use? 2. Do we really only have five senses? How can you tell? 3. What sense do we use the most? 4. What makes us hear sound?
  • 5. 5. What sense organ did we use to taste something? 6. How do taste buds work? 7. Why do kids like sweets the best? 8. What sense organ did we use to feel something? 9. How do your fingers feel? 10. What sense organ did we use to see things? 11. When we see a color, how do you know that everybody else sees the same color? 12. Why are our ears shaped like this? Note: Questions that students won’t answers satisfactorily as misconceptions would be addressed by the teacher. D. Abstraction / Generalization As stated before, we have five sense organs that can receive and relay sensory information to the brain. These senses provide an organism with information crucial for perception. Eyes - Sight Obviously allow us to see. But if you break it down, they do more than just that. Using our eyes, we can judge depth, interpret new information, and identify color (the wavelengths of light that reflect off surfaces). Nose - Smell It is used to smell scents. They get a sense for what particles are traveling through the air, which can help us identify if dangerous chemicals are nearby. Smell also has the strongest connection to memory; a familiar smell can remind us of things long forgotten. Ears - Hearing Ears allow us to hear sound - to detect vibrations in the air particles around us. But the inner ear also helps us maintain balance and regulate sinus pressure. This is especially useful when you change altitude (like, for example, when you are flying in an airplane). Tongues - Taste Tongues are used to taste foods, allowing us to figure out if something is going to be useful to our bodies or poisonous. They also allow us to sense hot and cold in food and liquids. Skin - Touch Last of all is the skin, which is responsible for what may be the most important senses in the human body. The skin performs a huge number of functions. These include:
  • 6. ● Perspiration (sweating) to cool the body ● Protection from the elements ● Sensing what's in contact with our bodies ● Communication with other human beings through touch ● Storage of water and lipids ● Formation of vitamin D from the Sun ● Water resistance ● Heat regulation E. Application Localized This article presented that we are responsible for our senses. Sense organs are vital organs of our body. As they help us to contact with our surroundings, we must take special care of them. If we ignore it, we may get affected severely. List down ways on how to take good care of sense organs. Sense Organ How to take care? Eyes Nose Tongue Ears Skin Then let learners share their ways of taking good care of the different sense organs. Emphasize that our human body works as a whole. For it to work well properly, its parts must coordinate and do its function properly. If one fails, the other organs might get affected. So, be responsible to what you do to your senses.
  • 7. F. Evaluation A. Draw the different sense organs inside the box. Name the senses and provide their functions in the space provided. 1. Organ: Eyes Sense: ___________________________ Function: ________________________ __________________________________ __________________________________ 2.
