ABSTRACT
A power transformer is a static electrical device used in electric power systems to transfer
power between circuits through the use of electromagnetic induction. Transformers are
devices that transfer energy from one circuit to another by means of a common magnetic
field. When an alternating current flows in a conductor, a magnetic field exists around the
conductor. If another conductor is placed in the field created by the first conductor such that
the flux lines link the second conductor, then a voltage is induced into the second conductor.
The use of a magnetic field from one coil to induce a voltage into a second coil is the
principle on which transformer theory and application is based. Transformers range in size
from thumbnail-sized used in microphones to units weighing hundreds of tons
interconnecting the power grid. A wide range of transformer designs are used in electronic
and electric power applications. Transformers are essential for the transmission, distribution
and utilization of electrical energy. The system includes facilities for discrimination between
internal fault current and magnetizing inrush current, differential protection, over current
protection, over voltage protection and under voltage protection. In this report, software and
hardware of micro controller based system have been explained and designed. The design
implementation and testing of the system are also presented. Generation of electrical power
in low voltage level is very much cost effective. Theoretically, this low voltage level power
can be transmitted to the receiving end. This low voltage power if transmitted results in
greater line current which indeed causes more line losses. But if the voltage level of a power
is increased, the current of the power is reduced which causes reduction in ohmic or I2R
losses in the system, reduction in cross sectional area of the conductor i.e. reduction in capital
cost of the system and it also improves the voltage regulation of the system. Because of
these, low level power must be stepped up for efficient electrical power transmission. In the
power transformer many types of faults occurring therefore for prevent to these faults we are
using advance technology of power transformer protection like protection of transformer using
microcontroller based relay, protection of transformer using GSM modem, oil level monitor
device and differential protection scheme.

  • 3. ABSTRACT A power transformer is a static electrical device used in electric power systems to transfer power between circuits through the use of electromagnetic induction. Transformers are devices that transfer energy from one circuit to another by means of a common magnetic field. When an alternating current flows in a conductor, a magnetic field exists around the conductor. If another conductor is placed in the field created by the first conductor such that the flux lines link the second conductor, then a voltage is induced into the second conductor. The use of a magnetic field from one coil to induce a voltage into a second coil is the principle on which transformer theory and application is based. Transformers range in size from thumbnail-sized used in microphones to units weighing hundreds of tons interconnecting the power grid. A wide range of transformer designs are used in electronic and electric power applications. Transformers are essential for the transmission, distribution and utilization of electrical energy. The system includes facilities for discrimination between internal fault current and magnetizing inrush current, differential protection, over current protection, over voltage protection and under voltage protection. In this report, software and hardware of micro controller based system have been explained and designed. The design implementation and testing of the system are also presented. Generation of electrical power in low voltage level is very much cost effective. Theoretically, this low voltage level power can be transmitted to the receiving end. This low voltage power if transmitted results in greater line current which indeed causes more line losses. But if the voltage level of a power is increased, the current of the power is reduced which causes reduction in ohmic or I2R losses in the system, reduction in cross sectional area of the conductor i.e. reduction in capital cost of the system and it also improves the voltage regulation of the system. Because of these, low level power must be stepped up for efficient electrical power transmission. In the power transformer many types of faults occurring therefore for prevent to these faults we are using advance technology of power transformer protection like protection of transformer using microcontroller based relay, protection of transformer using GSM modem, oil level monitor device and differential protection scheme.
