Se7en Opening Sequence
Straight away it is evident this movie is a thriller. This is shown in
how the way the opening sequence is filmed and also presented. The
text displaying the production and lead actors names are edited to fit
into the theme. It is distorted and has a thriller ‘sense’ to it,
immediately showing off the movies features.
The editing and filming of the production fits in with this too. It is fast
paced and sped up at times to give it a sense of thrill. There is lots of
overlapping clips used in the editing part of the opening and sound
effects will pop in at times, syncing into the production of the
editing.
The music and FX used also fit in with the theme. The syncing of the
editing and filming production is perfect in displaying the genre, it
gives it a chilling feel, making the audience feel like the clips are
building up to something.
Towards the mid part of the opening sequence, there are brief, fast
paced overlays used to transition the clips from one to the other, and
from text titles to filming. This style of editing is somewhat
‘unprofessional’ but in a clear sense of representing the intention of
the movie. This editing style shows the audience how the movie will
be presented and what it will represent.
The introduction is quite hard to pick up on what’s happening, and
this is done by how it has been edited and produced. There is
somebody cutting apart pieces of film and looking over certain pieces
of text in this sequence. The audience has to clearly pay attention to
notice these details, and sided by the style of editing, it can add to
the emotion the producer wants to give onto the audience.
