Audience feedback
1. Audience Feedback – Rough Cut
To end the year, we showed what we had of our product to a small focus group (shown below).
What we showed to the group lack sections of footage, which we indicated with a small text
prompt and a brief gap in-between the footage. Furthermore, the voice-overs were yet to have
been added and thus all dialogue was from that of the camera microphone. The focus group
were made fully aware before taking part that the product was still in an early stage and were
understanding that what was currently there didn't reflect the final length or audio quality of the
product. The group were also provided with a copy of the script so that they could read the
dialogue currently missing from the product.
On the whole, many of the group shared similar opinions. A lot of them liked the opening and
conclusion of the program; saying that it provide suitable and succinct exposition as to Verity's
current situation. Furthermore, many of them also found the Vinn Lyee sequences quite funny
and saw it a some nice comic relief whilst still explaining the consequences of the Seven Years
War. However they felt that the scene lasted too long and, as a result, was rather boring towards
the end (detracting from the more emotional aspects of the scenes conclusion). They also had a
similar opinion of the Ruff McTuffen interview which, although considered rather informative (thus
conforming to the genre's conventions) was slightly longer than it needed to be. In addition, some
people also commented that the interview lacked a variety of camera shots. Although we valued
the opinion, the camera work of this scene isn't something that we intend on changing. This is
because, in order to conform to the conventions of the genre, which are a key feature in
establishing the documentary style template on which we can add the humor, we need to keep
these camera shots. The room for more advanced varied shots will come in the form of
transitions and scenes outdoors.
There are still, however, multiple things we will change based on this feedback:
1. Make sure that shots are as varied and interesting as possible (as to prevent the audience
from becoming bored)
2. To significantly decrease the length of the product. Our main idea with this was to cut down
sections of the interview and add transition scenes that would say "We''ll hear a bit more from
Vinn later". This would, in effect, turn our product into the beginning of a documentary rather than
one in its entirety (something that's very difficult to fit into 5 minutes)
3. Make sure that the voice overs are added as soon as possible (as to make the product fully
audible and thus a better viewing experience)
