1. Josh lies awake at night unable to sleep for more than 4 hours, which has been exacerbated by recent family issues following an accident.
2. Josh's parents are constantly arguing, often about Josh, which stresses him. At breakfast, an argument erupts over Josh not eating.
3. Feeling disconnected from his family, Josh leaves to meet friends, but declines playing soccer with them, sitting alone as a dark figure looms behind him. He returns home to an empty house and packs a bag, leaving with the dark figure following.

FADE IN.
INT. BEDROOM – NIGHT
One side of the bed pressed against the wall. Bedside table and
wardrobe the other side. The red and white walls seem black in the
darkness.
NARRATOR
Lying in bed till a stupid time at night is nothing new.
SP. Slow pan around Josh lying on his bed staring at the celling in
silence.
NARRATOR
Ever since I was a kid I’ve never been great at sleeping. But the
last few months have been a nightmare.
FADE IN.
Multiple images of clocks/phones showing the time.
NARRATOR
For some unknown reason my body doesn’t like sleeping for more than
4 hours a night.
CUT TO.
CU. Of the side his face, eyes heavy and tired. Rolls over to face
the camera.
CUT TO.
OSS. Josh reach out a grabs phone on the bedside table.
CUT TO.
CU. Of phone Light flashes on and reads 3:45am followed by a slow
pan round to a CU of his face. Raises his hand to shield his eyes
from the light.
JOSH
(Sigh)
Great
The sound of the phone locking and the light goes off.

INT. BEDROOM – MORNING
MS. Josh’s Parents stood outside his closed bedroom door.
STEVE
(Whispered)
Where did you put my tie this time?
KAREN
(Whispered)
I haven’t touched your tie, its where ever you threw it last night.
STEVE
(Whispered)
For god sake Karen I’m going to be late now.
KAREN
(Slightly raised)
You’re going to be late? I’ve got to get Emma up get her sorted and
take her to school and get that little shit up. And then I have to
go to work.
(Point to the door)
CUT TO.
ES. Es shot of the sunlight coming through a gap in the curtains.
Black figure stood to the left of the window.
CUT TO.
CU. Josh laid in bed with his quilt tight around his neck. The
arguing continues.
CUT TO.
MS. Karen and Steve stood outside the door.
STEVE
(Shouting)
I’ll get Emma up then, it doesn’t take two seconds.
KAREN
(Shouting)
Oh and leave me to do everything else I guess then! I’ve got to go
to work as well you know.
STEVE
(Shouting)
Whatever Karen.
Steve walks out of shot.

CUT TO.
CU. Josh laid in bed and pulls the quilt over his head.
NARRATOR
They were at it again, like always. Ever since the accident they
haven’t stopped arguing; all day every day. Most of the time it’s
about stupid little stuff, or it’s about me. Either way, they are
arguing.
Door slams. Silence.
CUT TO.
MS. Karen opens a bedroom door.
KAREN
Good morning Emma, come on sweetie you’ve got to get ready for
school no, let’s go get some breakfast.
CUT TO.
LA. Josh lying in bed bedroom door in the background.
Karen bangs on the door loudly.
KAREN
Joshua get your arse out of bed now you’re going to be late.
CUT TO.
Black screen.
INT. Kitchen – MORNING
Large kitchen with a worktop tracing the entire edge of the kitchen.
A breakfast table stretches out into the middle of the floor. Window
on the far side facing the garden.
CU. Josh stood in the door way of the kitchen. A Black figures
stood behind him.
CUT TO.
MS. Karen in the kitchen cooking, Steve sat at the table with a cup
of coffee in his hand and a newspaper in the other. Half eaten slice

of toast on the plate in front of him. Emma sat in the chair next to
him on her iPad with a glass of orange juice
CUT TO.
CU. Emma takes a drink from the glass. Wipes her mouth and put it
back down.
EMMA
Morning Josh.
CUT TO.
CU. Josh nods in her direction.
CUT TO.
MS. Karen flips the pancake, slides it onto the pate and turns
around Slow Pan follows her.
CU. PAN. Of the plate as she puts it in front of Emma. Pancakes
covered in lemon and sugar.
CUT TO.
MS. Of Karen and Emma.
KAREN
I haven’t got time to make you any
She walks out of shot back to the stove.
CUT TO.
CU. of josh, tracking shot as he walks into the room, Followed by
the black figure.
JOSH
It’s fine I don’t want anything anyway.
CUT TO.
MS. Steve looks up from his newspaper and looks at Josh
CUT TO.
ELM. Josh stood at the side of the table.
CUT TO.
MS. Steve keeps looking at Josh and lays is newspaper down.
STEVE

You hardly ever eat anymore; you’re going to make yourself ill.
CUT TO.
CU. Cut back to Josh.
JOSH
(Sarcastic, Under his breath)
Oh so now you care.
CUT TO.
TS. Karen walks back to the table with a cup of tea. Stops behind
Emma.
KAREN
(Patronising)
Is there something wrong with my cooking?
CUT TO.
CU. Josh shakes his head, the black figure stood closer to him
JOSH
You know there are bigger things going on than if your cooking is
good or not mum. Why don’t you ask Emma considering you cook for her
all the time.
CUT TO.
LS. Steve stands up quickly pushing his chair backwards.
STEVE
(Angry and shouting)
Joshua don’t you dare talk to your mother like that, apologise now.
EMMA
(looks up at Karen)
Don’t worry mum I love your food.
CUT TO.
CU. Josh stood at the end of the table, the black figure standing
directly behind him. Josh looks to the floor and shakes his head.
CUT TO.
CU. Josh’s hand reaches out and grabs an apple off of the table.
CUT TO.

followed by the black figure.

EXT. STREETS – DAY
Josh is walking along the road. Houses line the sides of a busy
road. He has headphones on and his hands in the pockets of his grey
hoodie.
CUTS. Of Josh’s face as he walks down the road.
NARRATOR
Everything’s changed for me but for them it’s like they have just
forgotten about him, like they don’t care.
CUT TO.
MS. Josh walking down the road, black figure lingering closely
behind him. A man walks past Josh and accidently walks into him.
CUT TO.
MS. Josh turns to look at the man walk away. The black figure is
closer behind him now. He turns back around and shakes his head and
looks at the floor.
FADES IN.
EXT. ASTROTURF – DAY
Large AstroTurf surround by a large black cage. A group of boys are
playing football. There is a lot of shouting and cheering coming
from the boys.
OSS. Over the shoulder of Josh as he walks up to the opening of the
Astroturf. His hands still in his pockets.
A football flies over the low fence. A CU of the ball as it lands in
front of him.
CU. Josh leans over and picks up the ball.
JAMES
(shouting)

CUT TO.
LS. Josh bounces the ball back on the floor and kicks it to James
with little to no effort.
JOSH
Hey James, you alright?
CUT TO.
LS. James catches the ball under his foot, turns around and kicks
it towards the centre of the pitch. Turns back around and jogs
towards Josh.
JAMES
Yeah man I’m good, where’ve you been? Haven’t seen you in like 6
months.
CUT TO.
CU. Josh lowers his head and looks at the floor
JOSH
Yeah I know, I’ve has a lot on I guess.
CUT TO.
TS. James stops next to Josh and puts his hand on his shoulder and
gives it a squeeze.
JAMES
No worried, I don’t know what I’d be like if my brother died.
Josh nods and looks away, James drops his hand. The black figure now
stood directly behind Josh.
OSS. Facing James
JAMES
Anyway, you playing?
OSS. Facing Josh
JOSH
Nah I’m alright, I’m gonna sit for a bit.
LS. James nods and runs back over to the pitch. He talks to a few
of the boys and they look round at Josh. There are multiple
expressions on their faces. A few of the boys wave.

LS. Josh sat on the floor watching the game.
FADE TO.
MS. Multiple fade shots of him looking in different in direction.
CU. He shakes his head and lowers eyes to the ground.
MS. Reaches over and grabs the ball and throws it back
The black figure stood over him.
EXT. STREETS – AFTERNOON
Houses either side of a long stretch of road
The black figure following slowly behind the group of boys.
As they near Josh’s house the black figure get closer.
JAMES
See you later man, you’ll have to come round soon.
JOSH
Yeah man sure
OSS. Over the shoulder of Josh. The boys turn and run off down the
road kicking the ball back and forth.
CUT TO.
MS. Josh turns around and faces the house. No car is in the drive
way so no one is home.
CUT TO.
CU. Josh puts the key in the door and opens it.
CUT TO.
EXT. INSIDE – DAY

Josh stands facing the hall way that leads into the kitchen. The
hall is small, the stairs on the right hand side. He turns to face
the open living room and then back again to the hall.
CU. Of Joshs hand as he pulls the phone out of his pocket and
checks the time.
CUT TO.
CU. Josh turns his head to look at the door
CUT TO.
TS. Tracking shot in front of Josh walking through the hall way and
up the stairs.
CUT TO.
MS. WS. Josh takes a bag from his wardrobe and throws and hand full
of clothes into it.
CUT TO.
CU. Of the zip being closed and flung over his shoulder.
CUT TO.
TS. Josh runs down the stairs and out of the front door and slams
it behind him. The black figure stood by door.
CUT TO.
Shot from behind as Josh walks down the road
FADE TO BLACK.
