SEQUENCE
ANALYSIS
Frozen
Frozen begins with a closeup shot from under the ice as a someone cuts the ice.A diegetic
sound is heard here. A wide shot is shown as more axes are seen cutting the ice. A wide shot
of the men is then shown as they are cutting the ice.This is followed by another wide shot of
the icy mountains and the men are seen singing as they are working.A mid shot is shown as
more people are coming and joining in the cutting of ice. More wide shots are shown as the
people are working together in cutting of the ice and transporting it. A wide shot of a boy is
then shown as he is coming with his reindeer. Closeup of ice is then shown as it is pulled out
of water and is cut.The sounds are diegetic.This is followed by another wide shot of the boy
as he is following the other men and trying to work with them.The music and editing gets
fast paced here. A series of wide shot of the men is then shown as they are working.This is
again followed by a wide shot of the boy as he is trying to get the ice out of water.A wide
shot of the men is then shown as they are carrying the ice and it could be seen that it is
nighttime.The men are again shown working at night.This is followed by a wide shot of the
boy as he finally gets the ice cube out of the water.This is followed by a series of wide shot as
the men load their ice onto the sleigh and leave.The boy is also shown loading his piece of ice
on his sleigh as he follows the men.This is followed by a wide shot of the northern sky.The
sound is diegetic and editing is fast paced.This scene establishes the boy as the main
character and also shows that the men are hardworking people and work day and night to
gather the ice to sell it.
A wide tilt down shot is then shown. A castle could be seen on mountains.The grass is seen which
shows that it is summer. A wide shot of a large bedroom could is shown and two beds could be
seen. From the size of the room and the beds it could be establishes that it is inside the castle. A
mid shot of Elsa is seen as she is peacefully sleeping. Anna is then seen as she is trying to wake up
Elsa and is climbing on her bed.An over the head shot is shown as she gets on Elsa and starts
jumping to wake her up. A closeup of Elsa is shown as she says she wants to sleep.A high angle mid
shot is then shown as Anna sighs disappointed.A mid shot is again shown as she is saying some
dramatic lines to convince Elsa to come play with her. Elsa pushes her off the bed and Anna is seen
falling down through a mid shot. Anna is then seen thinking and she suddenly get excited which
represents that she has an idea.A wide shot is shown asAnna quickly jumps onto the bed and asks
Elsa, “Do you wanna build a snowman?” A mid shot of Elsa is then shown as she opens her eyes.The
sound here are diegetic and music could be heard in background.The editing is slow paced. A wide
shot is shown as Elsa and Anna are running down the stairs.A wide shot is shown as they run into an
empty room and close the door behind them. A middle two shot is then shown as Elsa builds a
snowball from her powers. A closeup of Anna is shown as she looks at it in awe. A wide shot is
shown as Elsa throws it into the air and it starts snowing inside the room. A closeup of Elsa’s feet is
then shown as she stomps it onto the floor and a layer of ice appears on the floor.Wide shot is
shown as both of them are building snowman. Elsa and Anna are seen playing through a series of
wide, mid and over the shoulder shots. Anna is then seen as she starts jumping on the ice and Elsa
starts making towers of ice so that she doesn’t fall.This is shown using wide and mid shots. Editing
is fast here. However, Anna starts jumping too fast and Elsa is seen struggling to keep up when she
slips and falls.A wide shot is shown asAnna jumps and Elsa quickly tries to make a tower but hits
her instead.Anna falls down unconscious and through a wide shot Elsa is seen running towards her.
A mid shot is seen as she puts Anna’s head in her lap and calls for help.The editing is fast paced and
sounds are diegetic.This scene shows the relationship of the sisters.
The Princess Diaries
The film begins with a wide shot of a bridge which is followed by another wide shot of traffic on the road. A car
could be seen which has flags on it. Another wide shot is then shown to establish the location.The car could be
seen passing by on the road and the shot is panned in to show a window of a house which represents that’s where
the main character of the story is going to be living.Transitions are used and slow music could be heard.This is
followed by a mid shot of Mia as she opens the blinds and is looking out of the window. From her outfit it could be
seen that she is dressed up for school. A mid shot then follows as she picks up her cat and walks away. A wide high
angle shot is then seen as she is coming down the stairs with her cat.The camera is tilting down. She then places
her cat besides on a table and picks up her bag.This further shows that she is going to school. A closeup of her
hand is shown as she puts her hand around a rod. A wide shot is then shown as she is sliding down the rod. A wide
shot of her mother is then shown who is climbing down the stairs and giving her tips on how to give speech. She is
then seen walking towards the door.A middle two shot of them is shown as her mom hands her a bag.A wide shot
of her house is shown from outside as the door opens and Mia walks out on her scooter. Another wide shot is then
shown as she closes the door behind her. She then starts her scooter and looses control as she goes up the hill. A
mid shot is shown as her scooter hits a dustbin. A mid shot of the man is shown standing besides the dustbin she
hits as he gets scared by the sound. A wide shot follows as Mia throws the bag her mom gave her into the dustbin
and then turns around in the other direction to go to school.Wide shots are shown as she is going to school on her
scooter. Another girl is seen joining her and the car seen in the beginning is seen again passing by on the road.
Another wide shot is then shown as Mia and her friend park their scooter outside the school.The editing is slow
paced and music is heard in background. Mia is established as main character and her nature is established as
being a friendly person as she is seen greeting her neighbors when she is leaving for school.The opening sequence
ends here.
The DarkTower
The film begins with a closeup of a rod.The camera tilts down and the rod is brought into focus. Loud speakers
could be seen and this represents that the speakers are used to give some important messages.This is followed
by a wide shot from above of swings and children playing. Laughter of children could be heard.Wide shots of
children are then shown as they are playing.The sound is diegetic. It could be seen that it is some sort of
playground and houses can be seen in background which show that the children live there.A closeup of a man is
then shown who is watching the kids. From his outfit it could be established that he is some kind of security
guard watching over the kids.The number 19-19 could be seen written in background which makes the audience
feel that it is important in the story.The camera then pans and the man’s neck is seen as it has a cut in it.The
number is still shown further showing its importance.This is followed by an over the head shot of a women
walking towards the kids as she is twisting her neck.This represents that these people are not real humans.
Sound of alarm ringing is heard in background.A wide shot of the children is shown as they all are looking in the
direction of the alarm. A closeup of the speakers is shown again.This is followed by a mid shot of children as
they look at their watches as alarm is also ringing in their watches. Mid shot of children whose watches are
ringing are shown.Those children get up and are walking towards a huge building.This represents that
something is going to happen to those children. A wide shot of the area is shown and the playground can be
seen to be on some mountain.Two moons can be seen in the background which represents its some other
planet.A closeup of a man is shown. He is seen wearing a mask. From the background it could be seen that its
some sort of lab. A mid shot of another man is shown who is seen fixing his son. A closeup of a screen is then
shown as someone is working on the computer.A lever is seen being turned down.This is followed by a closeup
of a boy’s hand is shown. A closeup of his face is then shown and from his expression it could be seen that he is
scared. Mid shots are shown as the children’s hands and face are tied in place.Those children are there whose
watch’s alarm rang. A closeup of one of the girl is seen as a yellow light is seen turning on behind them and her
expression show that she is in pain. A man is seen looking at the children. A wide shot of the children is shown
as they are tied up in the chairs.The yellow light is extracted from them.Another closeup of the girl’s face is
shown as she screams and the light gets brighter. A wide shot from outside the building is shown as the beam of
yellow light is seen going from the building into the sky. A tower is then shown as the yellow light hits it and it is
getting destroyed. Wide shots of the sky is seen as it is turning red.The sounds are diegetic and editing is slow.

The Maze Runner:
The scorch trials
It begins with a closeup of a lamp which represents that it is night. A closeup of people’s feet is
shown as they are walking and then their faces are shown. All of them are wearing masks which
represents there is some sort of disease is wide spread.A wide shot of people are shown
waving and then a train is seen leaving.This is followed by a closeup of a woman holding a little
boy. A wide shot is shown as she is making way and trying to get in. Closeups of the security
guards and their dogs are shown. A mid shot is shown as the woman is saying something to her
son. This is shown through a middle two shot. An over the shoulder shot is then shown as one
of the security guards comes and takes the boy away. A mid shot of the boy,Thomas is seen as
he is sitting in a train, looking outside.This is followed by another wide shot of him in the train.
Eye line match technique is used to show him looking around at the people in the train. A
woman is then seen putting her hand on his shoulder and comforting him. The women then
sits back. Middle shots are used to show this.The sounds are diegetic and editing is fast paced.
This scene represents that some disease is spreading so people are sending their children away.

Doctor Strange
The film begins with a panning shot of some bells and then a tree is seen. It could be seen that its
night and from the architecture it could be seen that it is a monastery.This is followed by a wide
shot from inside as monks are seen walking.This is followed by a mid shot of a man carrying a
book and placing it in place. Rule of thirds is used here and someone could be seen walking
towards the man in the background. Mid shot of the man is seen putting the books back inside.
This is followed by a mid shot of the person seen in background as two monks join him and stand
on each side of him.This shows that he is the leader.The man then notices the people. More
monks enter from each side and make a circle around the man.This is shown through a wide shot.
It could be seen that the man is scared.The monks use their powers to build ropes and wrap them
around his arms and legs.They then lift him in the sky and the man could be seen screaming in
pain.This is shown through closeups and wide shots. A closeup is shown as someone puts a bowl
under the man.Through a wide shot the leader of the monks is shown walking towards the man.
An over the shoulder shit is then shown as he sits down and takes off his hood. Mid shots of the
man and the monk are then shown. It could be seen that the man is in pain. A wide shot and
closeup is then shown as the monk takes out sword. A wide shot of their shadow is shown as the
monk cuts off the man’s face and a closeup of the bowl is shown as it falls into it.A closeup of the
book is then shown as the monk takes it out.The monk could be seen opening the book in a mid
shot.This is followed by an over the shoulder shot as the monk is looking for something in the
book. A mid shot is shown as he tears out a page and a closeup of the book falling on the floor is
then shown.This represents that the monk was looking for something and he has found it.The
sounds are diegetic and music is heard in background to create suspense.The editing is fast paced.

Opening sequence analysis

  • 2. Frozen Frozen begins with a closeup shot from under the ice as a someone cuts the ice.A diegetic sound is heard here. A wide shot is shown as more axes are seen cutting the ice. A wide shot of the men is then shown as they are cutting the ice.This is followed by another wide shot of the icy mountains and the men are seen singing as they are working.A mid shot is shown as more people are coming and joining in the cutting of ice. More wide shots are shown as the people are working together in cutting of the ice and transporting it. A wide shot of a boy is then shown as he is coming with his reindeer. Closeup of ice is then shown as it is pulled out of water and is cut.The sounds are diegetic.This is followed by another wide shot of the boy as he is following the other men and trying to work with them.The music and editing gets fast paced here. A series of wide shot of the men is then shown as they are working.This is again followed by a wide shot of the boy as he is trying to get the ice out of water.A wide shot of the men is then shown as they are carrying the ice and it could be seen that it is nighttime.The men are again shown working at night.This is followed by a wide shot of the boy as he finally gets the ice cube out of the water.This is followed by a series of wide shot as the men load their ice onto the sleigh and leave.The boy is also shown loading his piece of ice on his sleigh as he follows the men.This is followed by a wide shot of the northern sky.The sound is diegetic and editing is fast paced.This scene establishes the boy as the main character and also shows that the men are hardworking people and work day and night to gather the ice to sell it.
  • 3. A wide tilt down shot is then shown. A castle could be seen on mountains.The grass is seen which shows that it is summer. A wide shot of a large bedroom could is shown and two beds could be seen. From the size of the room and the beds it could be establishes that it is inside the castle. A mid shot of Elsa is seen as she is peacefully sleeping. Anna is then seen as she is trying to wake up Elsa and is climbing on her bed.An over the head shot is shown as she gets on Elsa and starts jumping to wake her up. A closeup of Elsa is shown as she says she wants to sleep.A high angle mid shot is then shown as Anna sighs disappointed.A mid shot is again shown as she is saying some dramatic lines to convince Elsa to come play with her. Elsa pushes her off the bed and Anna is seen falling down through a mid shot. Anna is then seen thinking and she suddenly get excited which represents that she has an idea.A wide shot is shown asAnna quickly jumps onto the bed and asks Elsa, “Do you wanna build a snowman?” A mid shot of Elsa is then shown as she opens her eyes.The sound here are diegetic and music could be heard in background.The editing is slow paced. A wide shot is shown as Elsa and Anna are running down the stairs.A wide shot is shown as they run into an empty room and close the door behind them. A middle two shot is then shown as Elsa builds a snowball from her powers. A closeup of Anna is shown as she looks at it in awe. A wide shot is shown as Elsa throws it into the air and it starts snowing inside the room. A closeup of Elsa’s feet is then shown as she stomps it onto the floor and a layer of ice appears on the floor.Wide shot is shown as both of them are building snowman. Elsa and Anna are seen playing through a series of wide, mid and over the shoulder shots. Anna is then seen as she starts jumping on the ice and Elsa starts making towers of ice so that she doesn’t fall.This is shown using wide and mid shots. Editing is fast here. However, Anna starts jumping too fast and Elsa is seen struggling to keep up when she slips and falls.A wide shot is shown asAnna jumps and Elsa quickly tries to make a tower but hits her instead.Anna falls down unconscious and through a wide shot Elsa is seen running towards her. A mid shot is seen as she puts Anna’s head in her lap and calls for help.The editing is fast paced and sounds are diegetic.This scene shows the relationship of the sisters.
  • 4. The Princess Diaries The film begins with a wide shot of a bridge which is followed by another wide shot of traffic on the road. A car could be seen which has flags on it. Another wide shot is then shown to establish the location.The car could be seen passing by on the road and the shot is panned in to show a window of a house which represents that’s where the main character of the story is going to be living.Transitions are used and slow music could be heard.This is followed by a mid shot of Mia as she opens the blinds and is looking out of the window. From her outfit it could be seen that she is dressed up for school. A mid shot then follows as she picks up her cat and walks away. A wide high angle shot is then seen as she is coming down the stairs with her cat.The camera is tilting down. She then places her cat besides on a table and picks up her bag.This further shows that she is going to school. A closeup of her hand is shown as she puts her hand around a rod. A wide shot is then shown as she is sliding down the rod. A wide shot of her mother is then shown who is climbing down the stairs and giving her tips on how to give speech. She is then seen walking towards the door.A middle two shot of them is shown as her mom hands her a bag.A wide shot of her house is shown from outside as the door opens and Mia walks out on her scooter. Another wide shot is then shown as she closes the door behind her. She then starts her scooter and looses control as she goes up the hill. A mid shot is shown as her scooter hits a dustbin. A mid shot of the man is shown standing besides the dustbin she hits as he gets scared by the sound. A wide shot follows as Mia throws the bag her mom gave her into the dustbin and then turns around in the other direction to go to school.Wide shots are shown as she is going to school on her scooter. Another girl is seen joining her and the car seen in the beginning is seen again passing by on the road. Another wide shot is then shown as Mia and her friend park their scooter outside the school.The editing is slow paced and music is heard in background. Mia is established as main character and her nature is established as being a friendly person as she is seen greeting her neighbors when she is leaving for school.The opening sequence ends here.
  • 5. The DarkTower The film begins with a closeup of a rod.The camera tilts down and the rod is brought into focus. Loud speakers could be seen and this represents that the speakers are used to give some important messages.This is followed by a wide shot from above of swings and children playing. Laughter of children could be heard.Wide shots of children are then shown as they are playing.The sound is diegetic. It could be seen that it is some sort of playground and houses can be seen in background which show that the children live there.A closeup of a man is then shown who is watching the kids. From his outfit it could be established that he is some kind of security guard watching over the kids.The number 19-19 could be seen written in background which makes the audience feel that it is important in the story.The camera then pans and the man’s neck is seen as it has a cut in it.The number is still shown further showing its importance.This is followed by an over the head shot of a women walking towards the kids as she is twisting her neck.This represents that these people are not real humans. Sound of alarm ringing is heard in background.A wide shot of the children is shown as they all are looking in the direction of the alarm. A closeup of the speakers is shown again.This is followed by a mid shot of children as they look at their watches as alarm is also ringing in their watches. Mid shot of children whose watches are ringing are shown.Those children get up and are walking towards a huge building.This represents that something is going to happen to those children. A wide shot of the area is shown and the playground can be seen to be on some mountain.Two moons can be seen in the background which represents its some other planet.A closeup of a man is shown. He is seen wearing a mask. From the background it could be seen that its some sort of lab. A mid shot of another man is shown who is seen fixing his son. A closeup of a screen is then shown as someone is working on the computer.A lever is seen being turned down.This is followed by a closeup of a boy’s hand is shown. A closeup of his face is then shown and from his expression it could be seen that he is scared. Mid shots are shown as the children’s hands and face are tied in place.Those children are there whose watch’s alarm rang. A closeup of one of the girl is seen as a yellow light is seen turning on behind them and her expression show that she is in pain. A man is seen looking at the children. A wide shot of the children is shown as they are tied up in the chairs.The yellow light is extracted from them.Another closeup of the girl’s face is shown as she screams and the light gets brighter. A wide shot from outside the building is shown as the beam of yellow light is seen going from the building into the sky. A tower is then shown as the yellow light hits it and it is getting destroyed. Wide shots of the sky is seen as it is turning red.The sounds are diegetic and editing is slow. The opening sequence ends here.
  • 6. The Maze Runner: The scorch trials It begins with a closeup of a lamp which represents that it is night. A closeup of people’s feet is shown as they are walking and then their faces are shown. All of them are wearing masks which represents there is some sort of disease is wide spread.A wide shot of people are shown waving and then a train is seen leaving.This is followed by a closeup of a woman holding a little boy. A wide shot is shown as she is making way and trying to get in. Closeups of the security guards and their dogs are shown. A mid shot is shown as the woman is saying something to her son. This is shown through a middle two shot. An over the shoulder shot is then shown as one of the security guards comes and takes the boy away. A mid shot of the boy,Thomas is seen as he is sitting in a train, looking outside.This is followed by another wide shot of him in the train. Eye line match technique is used to show him looking around at the people in the train. A woman is then seen putting her hand on his shoulder and comforting him. The women then sits back. Middle shots are used to show this.The sounds are diegetic and editing is fast paced. This scene represents that some disease is spreading so people are sending their children away. The opening sequence ends here.
  • 7. Doctor Strange The film begins with a panning shot of some bells and then a tree is seen. It could be seen that its night and from the architecture it could be seen that it is a monastery.This is followed by a wide shot from inside as monks are seen walking.This is followed by a mid shot of a man carrying a book and placing it in place. Rule of thirds is used here and someone could be seen walking towards the man in the background. Mid shot of the man is seen putting the books back inside. This is followed by a mid shot of the person seen in background as two monks join him and stand on each side of him.This shows that he is the leader.The man then notices the people. More monks enter from each side and make a circle around the man.This is shown through a wide shot. It could be seen that the man is scared.The monks use their powers to build ropes and wrap them around his arms and legs.They then lift him in the sky and the man could be seen screaming in pain.This is shown through closeups and wide shots. A closeup is shown as someone puts a bowl under the man.Through a wide shot the leader of the monks is shown walking towards the man. An over the shoulder shit is then shown as he sits down and takes off his hood. Mid shots of the man and the monk are then shown. It could be seen that the man is in pain. A wide shot and closeup is then shown as the monk takes out sword. A wide shot of their shadow is shown as the monk cuts off the man’s face and a closeup of the bowl is shown as it falls into it.A closeup of the book is then shown as the monk takes it out.The monk could be seen opening the book in a mid shot.This is followed by an over the shoulder shot as the monk is looking for something in the book. A mid shot is shown as he tears out a page and a closeup of the book falling on the floor is then shown.This represents that the monk was looking for something and he has found it.The sounds are diegetic and music is heard in background to create suspense.The editing is fast paced.
