Russian Negotiation Report Essay
Russian Negotiation Report (Director of the Archives)
1. What, in general, did you learn about negotiation from the simulation? What surprised you? What
would you do differently?
The pub was chosen to be the place to meet. It was meant to be a friendly place with drinks so that
barriers would be broken. Of course, given it was just a simulation and we actually knew each other as
friends, I m guessing the real world scenario would be slightly different, or at least the effect of
choosing a friendly place would have different impact than I would imagine. That being said, I did
notice that in an environment with a lot of background noise (I remember a basketball game was on),
people tend to speak loudly, which leads them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I didn t care much about whether the money comes directly from Pipeline or from the Russian
Government internally. All I cared about was scaling the $10 service I demanded to at least
$3,000,000, given we had from 300,000 to 400,000 tapes in the archive.
It s also worth mentioning that I had a secondary strategy that didn t work very well. I planned to
come up with believable intangible demands that will hopefully make Pipeline uncomfortable to the
point that they are willing to remove some of these demands in exchange for raising the service fees or
the money paid to the Russian Government in general. One example of these believable intangible
demands was: Printing the Russian Archive Institution s logo on the cover of every CD published.
Nice, right!? The bad news to this dirty trick was that this was a complete simulation. These intangible
demands didn t mean anything to our fellow simulators, and they simply agreed to every single
demand with out any hesitation. I really wonder if this plan would really work in real life negotiations.
3. How did the concepts of process, power (structural and/or personal), interests, and/or mutual gains,
etc. actually occur in the simulation?
It was very obvious that the Russians had the absolute power. Pipeline tried very hard explaining and
describing about the superiority of their technology in the market. They kept saying they were the best
by a great margin over their competitors. To

The Death Of Artemio Cruz
The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular life
and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political and
economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique will
contain a summary of the novel and provide some examples and parallels on core course concepts
evident in the story, hopefully demonstrating what learning was obtained using the lens of global
health matters. Some of my personal musings and reflections will be included in the paper, and
provide food for thought, reflections on universal problems commonly known if not shared by us all.
Book Summary Beginning with his participation in the Mexican Revolutionary War as a young soldier
embracing Marxist ideals bent on overthrowing the established, corrupt political structure in place,
The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of our
character in the aftermath of a successful revolution. The main plot underlines a striking contradiction,
as the protagonist eventually espouses principles he has long eschewed, becoming the exploiter
instead of the champion of the downtrodden, betraying the principles he had fought so long and hard
for. The narrative begins while he lies helplessly on his deathbed, in the throes of drug and disease
induced delirium, and through a series of flashbacks features his somewhat addled reminiscences of a

How Cultural Differences Impact On Advertising
How cultural differences impact on advertising in multi national companies?
(Case study of Coca Cola Company)
Introduction
A multinational company (MNC) can be defined as a company which operating in several countries
but managed by its home country. These companies play a major role in present globalized business
market. By moving forward beyond geographical barriers, helps multinational companies to expand
market share and maximize companies profit margins.
In comparison with its home country, operating in foreign country is not an easy task for any

according to the country.
In order to survive in the competitive market, every company needs to adopt significant marketing

used multinational companies in order to attract more customers towards their products.
But, can a multinational company use same advertising campaign in all around the world? The
simplest answer for that question is No . If so, what is the reason for that? The main reason for that is
due to cultural barriers and different any company cannot adopt same advertising tools or methods
among every country. Therefore, multinational companies advertise different in according to the

African-Canadian History
Strength as a community is one of the most powerful tools in the society we live in. As Canadians, we
are proud of the rich history of breaking down barriers we hold with many diverse groups. As a nation
we serve to provide an exemplar to other nations about how Canadians embrace their unity and the

The Ending Of The Aeneid
While the ending of The Aeneid might be seen to have multiple significances, I believe that Virgil
ended the poem the way he did to make a statement about the use of power to achieve dominance and
rulership: namely, that a lust for nothing but power will ultimately consume. The poem ends with
Turnus and Aeneas facing each other one on one on the battlefield. However, it should be noted that
there are fundamental differences between the philosophies of the two combatants which should first
be grasped to fully understand the significance of Aeneas s actions in ending the war. Before the battle
between Aeneas and Turnus begins, the reader gets a glimpse of Turnus s philosophy regarding the
stakes of the battle. Either I ll send, with my hand, this deserter of Asia, this Dardan, / Down to the Pit
of the Damned and the Latins can sit down and watch while / My lone sword is refuting the charge of
dishonor we all share; / Or you [Latinus] must share my defeat. And Lavinia must go as this man s
wife. (12.14 17) Turnus believes that in war, there is no possible outcome but for one leader and his
entire army to be wiped out in the other side s pursuit of honor and glory. Aeneas s views on the battle
are displayed earlier in the poem, when he journeys down into the underworld and is instructed in
Trojan battle philosophy by his deceased father Anchises. You, who are Roman, recall how to govern
mankind with your power. / That will be your special Arts : the enforcement of peace as

Lucky s Negligence Case
Lucky s parent, the Spencers want to know whether they can successfully sue the camp for Lucky s
injury under a theory of negligence. Negligence is a failure to act as a reasonably prudent and careful
person is expected to act in a similar circumstances. The four basic elements of a negligence case are
duty, breach of duty, causation, and harm. We will have to see if Lucky s case meets any of these
elements. Eight year old Lucky was a camper from Camp Kid. Each year Camp Kid holds a hike to
the top of Spaghetti Mountain or Wise Hill. The campers chose to hike to Spaghetti Mountain, which

Foreshadowing Examples In The Most Dangerous Game
In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game, author Richard Connell expertly exploits
foreshadowing and vivid imagery to emphasize danger and suspense. Many authors attempt to do this,
but only a small few succeed. Everyone who has stayed up past their bedtime reading a book will tell
you, they stayed awake because the book they were reading was filled with suspense. It is suspense
that separates the great stories from the good stories. And The Most Dangerous Game is definately a
great one. By using foreshadowing and utilizing his characters five senses, Connell keeps readers at
the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to find out what comes next. Foreshadowing is a vital
ingredient to any suspenseful story. It hints at the idea that something is off kilter, without ever
revealing exactly what that something is. This leaves readers with an uneasy feeling about the plot, but
they can t quite figure out why. Because of that suspicious feeling, readers are left with a burning
desire to find out what happens on the next page. Foreshadowing can be achieved many different
ways, such as through eree names, unpleasant conversations, and odd occurrences. In one of the very
first sentences in the story, readers can already observe the usages of foreshadowing. The island they
land on is referred to as Ship Trap Island, which hints at the danger it holds for sailors who may be
passing by. A few paragraphs later, it is mentioned that the island holds a very unpleasant

Intelligence And Failure Of The Operation Market Garden
Operation Market Garden The purpose of this paper is to argue that Allied commanders failed to
utilize credible intelligence information prior to Operation Market Garden. Additionally, if the
commanders of the operation appropriately used the intelligence at hand, Operation Market Garden
would have been a success instead of failure. This paper examines how the Allied commanders failed
to properly take into consideration credible signals intelligence, human intelligence, and imagery
intelligence. If the Allied commanders would have not discredited multiple discipline intelligence
reports, Operation Market Garden would have been able to capture all of the key objectives of the
mission. The success of Operation Market Garden would have forced Germany to surrender as much
as six months earlier, saving countless lives. Pressure Back Home September 1944, the Allies fresh off
of widespread victories in Western Europe devised a plan to put an end to the war by as early as
Christmas 1944. The string of victories in Western Europe was a product of swift fighting and
continued pressure on the German Army. The Allies had outpaced there logistical support during this
swift fighting, and thus decided to halt the advance until supplies could catch up. This posed a
problem for General Eisenhower, as he was facing pressure from politicians back home to capitalize
on the recent defeats of the German Army. Also, British Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery was

Leadership In Julius Caesar
What does leadership mean to someone? For most, it s how someone can make an impact. There are
many important aspects of being a leader. The power of a great leader starts with the right mindset and
willingness to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. One that is always a couple steps ahead and
is there to look out for others. In William Shakespeare s famous play, Julius Caesar, few characters
happen to have to right amount of potential to become a leader of Rome. With the death of the ruler
Julius Caesar, two counter viewing characters gave a speech about Caesar which caused different
reactions. One character in particular, Mark Antony, sticks out due to his great use of language and
how he created an impact on Rome s people. Marcus Brutus on the other hand, also attempted to
influence the people, but his inability to be more persuasive than Antony is what caused him to receive
the more negative feedback. Brutus indeed spoke logically, but Antony would happen to make a better
candidate as a leader because he spoke to the emotions of the people and knew what was right. Mark
Antony qualifies as a superior leader because of his ability to connect with the people and by proving
his loyalty. He is a solemn, confident, and persuasive man which are key reasons why he would make
an outstanding ruler. In Julius Caesar, his confidence often shows. The threefold world divided, he
should stand / One of the three to share it, (IV.i.14 15). Antony questioned whether or not Lepidus
would be fitting to rule a third of the world. Antony would take one half, Octavius the other half and
they would rule because he believed Lepidus was not capable. Antony s confidence shows his
capability of being a leader. Relating back to the speech given at Caesar s funeral, Brutus gave a
logical speech compared to Antony s persuasiveness which made the people have a different feedback
and overall different impact on who they believed was more trustworthy. Along with Antony s
confidence, his nobility towards others would have made him a great leader. His nobility was for
Julius Caesar especially, who he was very close to. When Caesar died, Antony wanted revenge
because of the unjust way he was murdered. Cry Havoc! and let slip the

The Importance Of Flag Burning In The United States

situation, a group of students gathered at a park to protest terrorism. During this, some students got out

people feel it s wrong to burn the country s flag, others say it isn t since it is protected by the first
amendment. Burning the American flag is protected under the First Amendment. In 1969 and 1989 the
high court ruled that flag burning was protected under the constitution and you will not get arrested if
you participate in this. This part of the first amendment has been brought up many times because many
people have different stand points. In both cases Texas v. Johnson in 1989, and US v. Eichmann in
1990 the Supreme Court ruled that flag burning was a form of symbolic speech protected by the First
Amendment. The ruling came after an appeal from Gregory Johnson, who had been convicted by a

The Post War Era
The zeitgeist of the post war era was change, encompassing both personal, social and political
transformation explored by composer s experimentation with form and subject matter. The dominant
discourse of power during the Cold War was the ideological conflict between Capitalism and
Communism. The dominant ways of thinking were profoundly challenged by the emergence of an
alternative, youth driven culture. A composer s disillusionment with the world in the After the Bomb
period acted as a catalyst for them to not only challenge ways of thinking but also the traditional form
of literature. The era saw widespread criticism of government systems and of the military industrial
complex as hegemonic ideas about America were being questioned. There was a widespread
perception that society had lost touch with the cornerstone of American values and pillars of
democracy and it was the role of the writers, filmmakers and poets to recapture its emphasis on
idealism rights and liberty and challenge the world that rejected these ideals. The texts which
challenged the values and ways of thinking of the time coupled with their exploration of universal
themes and the victims perspective enables these texts to continue to hold enormous significance and
influence in today s society. Accordingly a sense of discomfort pervades confronting texts of the era as
composers experiment with subject matter by amplifying humanity s growing dissension with towards
the values and ideas that shaped

hours analyzing this thing, but because this thing is insignificant, your efforts are pointless. But, even
with this knowledge, you continue your stream of pointless analyzation every single day for as long as

Perfection isn t easily attainable; to make something flawless at every angle requires a lot of time and
effort which is why one cannot be perfect at everything. This idea may seem intuitive to most people,
but not for me. My mind has completely expelled this principle and, instead, has fostered this ill

Iran As A Democratic Nation
Iran as a newly democratic nation must face many changes. The characteristics of a democratic nation
include individual rights and freedoms, voting rights, free elections, as well as more gender equality.
These are all elements that will be new for the Iranian people. Along with the changes presented by a
new democracy, Iran must also prepare for the changes present in the 21st century. The world as a
whole is changing as technology and policy increase globalization and the need for countries to work
together. As the world continues to change, so too do the requirements for success. Iran as a
democratic nation needs to be aware of these changes. Huitt (2007) discusses how success in the

Elgin and LeDrew (1997) proposes many changes that are necessary for the current and future world.
Instead of focusing on the individual person or country, the world should be viewed as a whole and
complete entity. Economically there should be fair competition. Individuals should participate in life
in such a way that is fulfilling and exciting, but also working towards a greater and global good. This
is a very different perspective for the Iranian government, but to be successful in the new age it is a
necessary shift in thinking. Two trends for success that are pertinent for the Iranians are
decentralization and an emphasis on personal growth and community. Each of these trends is essential
for a newly developed democratic nation. They are fundamental for success in the Conceptual Age or
Reflective/Living Systems Paradigm.
Huitt (1999a) first emphasized decentralization in his writings on the Informational Age. According to
Huitt s definition, decentralization is the process of putting the responsibility and authority for making
decisions into the hands of the people who will be implementing the decision (p. 2). This trend is vital
for success in a newly democratic Iran. The implementation of democracy depends on
decentralization. The government in Iran must trust the people to make decisions regarding the
government, economy, and religious activities. In the end it is the people in Iran who will implement

Confucianism Vs Taoism
Confucianism and Taoism are some of the major religions in China. They have greatly influenced the
culture of the Chinese people as well as their world view. The connection between the two religions
has influenced many people over time. It can also be said that when the principles of both
philosophies are put together, the outcome is a well rounded person. The following is a discussion of
the principles and philosophies behind these two religions as well as how the two religions interact
and connect to influence an individual.
Confucianism is a religion that bases its philosophy and principles on the teachings of Confucius, a

Knowledge means to appreciate the true and deep significance of something. Integrity on the other
hand means honesty and standing by one s words.
Taoism is a Chinese religious tradition that stresses the importance of living harmoniously with the
essence and source of all that exists or the Tao. In Chinese, Tao means the path, way or principle but it
can also mean nature or reality. In Taoism, the right path is working in harmony with nature or reality.
Taoism ethics stress the three jewels of the Tao which include moderation, compassion and humility.
The philosophy of Taoism centers on nature and how human beings should relate with the cosmos.
Inner fulfillment can be achieved through contemplation of nature. Nature is like a stream of wisdom
and by experiencing it through innocent eyes, we can internalize its pleasantness, its intrigue and its
excitement and make serenity.
There are four fundamental principles in Taoism including Tao, De, Pu and Wu wei. Tao in Taoism is
the natural, spontaneous, eternal and indescribable way everything began and took course. It is the
force that is behind natural order, the natural flow of the universe or that which keeps the universe
ordered and balanced. De on the other hand is the integrity, virtue and power that are an active
expression of the way or Tao. It is the living out or cultivation of the way. Wu wei, the third principle

Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a novella written by...
Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a novella written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez taking place in
twentieth century Colombia. Marquez recalls the events of a murder twenty years in the past. The
victim, who is named Santiago Nasar in the novella, faces prosecution from his twin friends because
the twins sister states Santiago took her virginity. As honor was greatly valued in the Colombian
society at the time, their worldview led to the requirement for their family s honor to be restored by
killing Santiago. The result is an impending murder that almost everyone, except for a small group
including Santiago himself, knew about. The result is Santiago s death as he never knew what was
coming.

The audience is introduced with Santiago s background. Following the beginning of the tragedy,
Angela Vicario, the bride of a rich and honorable man, had a conflict with her new husband regarding
her virginity. To resolve her issue, she places the blame for her lost virginity on for this issue on
Santiago Nasar. [Clotilde] was certain that the Vicario brothers were not as eager to carry out the
sentence as to find someone who would do them the favor of stopping them (Marquez 57). This leads
to the start of Santiago s downfall as the twins now are determined to restore their family s honor by
murdering Santiago Nasar, which also brings more issues as the twins and Santiago are friends since
their childhood. The ending of the tragedy would be the actual murder of Santiago as it brings an end
to his life and leaves a tragic finish to the plot. All together, these three sections would fulfill the role
of a tragic plot and allows Chronicle of a Death Foretold to be considered a tragedy itself as defined
by Aristotle. Next, a Greek tragedy must contain characters that provide moral lessons to the audience
and must be true to life, or be realistic where they can be related to people. In Chronicle of a Death
Foretold, there is a multitude of characters that give moral lessons in one way or another. For example,
Angela Vicario teaches a basic lesson regarding truth and the power of words. It is most likely that

Women Among Roles, Power, And Rights Essay
The Women Among Roles, Power, and Rights in Islam. Since the mention of women in an Islamic
context brings the notion that women under the Islamic cover live an oppressive, unfair, and
patriarchal lifestyle. Defending this situation, Amina Wadud in her book Qur an and Woman, Muslim
progressives have since quite a while ago contended that it is not the religion but rather a patriarchal
elucidation and usage of the Qur an that has kept women mistreated. Wadud sees that the sacred texts
are not the problem source for the oppression that women experiencing under Islam, she believes that
who interpreting them and how they were interpreted are the sources of the problem. Her book
challenges the false concepts held by many Muslims (concepts that do not reflect Quran and Islam)
such as: men are superior to women , men are in charge of women , men are natural leaders , men rule
the family and should get obedience from women , women should not leave the house unless it is
necessary , woman s voice is taboo , etc. The author breaks down specific verses and key words that
have been used to oppress and limit women, to show that their real meaning defies such oppression
and limitation. Wadud indicates that the misogynist notion regarding Islam was created by the
patriarchal and frequently unpleasant society toward ladies; individuals in intense positions, similar to
say, male religious pioneers, would have each motivation to translate the Qur an similarly. Along

Persuasive Essay On Solar Energy
New York and California: two of the nation s largest states by population, have estimated that by the
year 2030, power companies will get fully fifty percent of their electricity from renewable energy
sources. Solar power is a type of renewable energy that produces energy by collecting sunlight given
from the sun. Not only does sunlight maintain the earth s temperature and sustain life for plants
through the process of photosynthesis, it also provides energy to many commercial businesses as well
as the homes of many Americans. Unlike fossil fuels, solar power provides a clean form of energy
without harmful greenhouse gases. Solar energy is very easily obtained, renewable, and emits no
harmful greenhouse gasses. As a result of these factors, some researchers claim developing solar
panels on a large scale around the United States would be very beneficial in many ways. On the
contrary, other experts claim that developing solar panels on a large scale would be catastrophic for
utilities due to the fact that solar energy systems and utilities are competitors. Solar energy systems
should be implemented in the United States because they are renewable, beneficial to the
environment, abundant, easily obtained, cost effective, and they provide jobs for many Americans.
In modern day, both nonrenewable energy and greenhouse gasses have become a major issue across
the United States. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas, are nonrenewable energies that account for
most energy needs.

Steroids Is Not The Ideal Choice For Many Health Reasons
Alex Rodriguez, from the New York Yankees, suspended for 162 games for using steroids (History).
The use of steroids has forever changed the world of professional sports, making it a world fueled by
drug contacts instead of skill and talent. Steroids could possibly be legalized although there are many
risks, people are caught everyday using steroids, people could be harmed from using steroids, and
many negative consequences are caused from the use of steroids. Steroids are not the ideal choice for
many health reasons. The use of steroids in men can cause a plethora of changes some being mental,
or physical. Changing these features and looks in men can cause many social issues with others. They
could be unwanted in social groups and not fit in. There are many alterations in men, shrinking of the
testicles, baldness, breast development, languid, and infertility. Shrinking of the testicles is caused by
using steroids for too long, or taking a higher dose than prescribed. Male pattern baldness occurs when
the follicle, which is where hair grows out of, becomes smaller which can be caused from steroids.
When men take steroids, more estrogen is being produced caused from the overflow of testosterone,
breasts can develop. Another risk from males using steroids is infertility, which means that a person
cannot have kids (Fitness). Women can have some of the same changes like men. Some risks just for

Examples Of Escapism In Horses Of The Night
The course of action an individual pursues is due to one s motivation, weather that may be personal
influences, or influences from others in the community. The motivation one finds helps them to
jumpstart their chosen course of action, and guide them through the journey. In Margaret Laurence s
short story Horses of the Night Chris, demonstrates how his motivation conducts him through his

pathetic fallacy, and how his family situation affects him and helps develop his chosen actions.
The text introduces us to Chris when he is just a boy, around the age of 15, entering high school in the
new town of Manawaka. He is a tall lanky boy with his face angular, the bones showing through the
brown skin opinionated by Vanessa. Also his grey eyes were slightly slanted, and his hair was the
colour of couchgrass... a light yellow by the sun. Coming from a poor family, Chris had little to wear

George Orwell 1984 Essay
1984 Final Paper
It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within
range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away, (Orwell, 79). The quotation above is
from George Orwell s 1984. The meaning behind this is that totalitarian governments cause others to
always feel like their actions are being watched. Because of this, those people feel very paranoid since
they aren t doing whatever the norm is. George Orwell wrote 1984 to show readers that dictatorships
are only harmful and cause many people to be fearful of their every move, and they still exist today.

The character Big Brother is the leader of the Party and everyone follows his rule, just like how today
people have a leader or form of government. In 1984, Big Brother is a dictator, which an example of is
what North Korea is like with Kim Jong un as a singular ruler over the citizens. This example means
that George Orwell was trying to make a novel that would continue for years to explain the dangers of
only having one person making the decisions for the people of their country. Another reason for
including dictatorships and the issues with them was to make sure that all readers for generations to
come would notice that their life was not very different from the life that the people in 1984 were
living in. There were telescreens that watched the members of the Party s every move and making sure
that they were not going against their country in any way. The novel, 1984, includes the telescreens as
an example of what life is like for all citizens today because the leaders of the country can always
have access to anything people do on their technology. The example above shows Orwell wanting to
make the book something that everyone for generations could relate with technology constantly
advancing. George Orwell is also trying to show the reader that the government can constantly see
whatever is being done, and the leaders say it is in order to keep the countries safe. The author is

The Slopes Of War By. Perez
In the historical fiction novel The Slopes of War by N.A. Perez, the author illustrates the gruesome
battle that befell the little market town of Gettysburg during the Civil War through the various
perspectives of all the people whom were immersed and affected. These people included young men
fighting, generals arguing about their plans and tactics, and innocent citizens who aided causalities
regardless of what color their uniform happened to be. Perspectives from both the Confederate and
Union armies are offered in the text to grasp a better understanding of all the thoughts occurring
throughout the entire battle, as well as before and after. Throughout the novel, Perez elucidates the
emotional and physical aspects of war the people endured, such as traumatizing, graphic images that
can serve as bad omens, and loss of loved ones. Also, the book further explains what war truly
signified, which was death. The positive results and overall effects of the war as described in the
novel, however, somewhat outweighs the negative causes and struggles. In the book Crispin written
by Avi, there is a particular quote in the novel on the first page in which reads, In the midst of life
comes death, in the midst of death comes life. This quote can be related to the novel in numerous
ways, and can be applied to life in general, too.

The Job Of The Analyst
The part of the job of the analyst in identifying a business need that looks interesting and enjoyable to
me would be engaging the stakeholders (organization management, sponsors/champions, and system
users among other stakeholders) in identifying the various business requirements. This, in my view, is
one of the crucial areas because it would allow me as an analyst to understanding the state of an
existing system and determine how a new system would impact on the business performance of an
organization. Without a clear picture of the business requirements, there is a high likelihood that a new
system would not bring the anticipated results. I would use my interviewing skills to get the different
perspectives of the stakeholders as an initial step in system development. It is clear to me that
interviewing, as a method of gathering business requirements, is sometimes cumbersome and time
consuming. However, I am of the view that with the right skills in conducting interviews, an analyst
can be able to probe deeper on issues and challenges of an existing system and the specifications that a
new system is expected to meet. I would achieve this through conducting individual interviews, joint
interviews as well as forming focus groups. The part of the job of the analyst in identifying a business
need that looks unenjoyable to me and that which would not suit me would be digging into the
financial records to investigate the impact of an existing system and postulate how a new

Charlie Parker Take 5 Analysis

This task requires the close comparison of two jazz pieces of different decades and their defining
styles. The musical styles, instrumentation, compositional techniques, structure, technology and role

historical and social contexts of those decades will also be analysed because they played key roles in

Context
Ko Ko was composed and recorded in 1945 which marked the end of the Second World War. The

Parker recorded Ko Ko during his first session and first date as a leader for Savoy Records.
This piece showcased just how challenging this new music was to play. Parker was no longer
confining himself in the traditional jazz musical style but rather creating his own new Jazz language.
Ko Ko was a ferocious salvo fired across swings bow. (Myers n.d.)
Take Five, a West Coast Cool Jazz piece, was composed by Paul Desmond during the Cold War and
performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album Time Out . The piece got its name due
to its 5/4 time signature, which is very unusual. This reflects the experimental nature of West Coast
Cool Jazz. I was breaking a whole bunch of rules. (Zollo 1991), but this evidently worked because it
was the first jazz single to ever sell over a million copies globally.

Diageo Whiskey Company Analysis
Introduction
Diageo holds a title of being the globe s largest producer of whisky, connected to some 29 distilleries
and warehouses storing seven million casks of maturing spirits. Their products are sold in more than
180 countries and the company holds offices in 80 countries. Diageo s best selling brand (Johnnie

From this point Diageo s growth was much sounder and fueled up by positive quarter results lead by
encouraging forecast figures. As a result, Diageo s stock grew by more than 80 percent within a three
year span, beating FTSE 100 Index s performance (approximately 33 percent) by an impressive 47
percent.
Q3. Determine the current value of the equity in this company, using each of the following methods:
1) Net Asset Value (NAV). Net asset value is used by financial analysts as a complementing tool to
define the value of a company s stock. Net Asset Value is basically tells the current balance sheet
value of assets after deducting liabilities (Carmichael et al., 2003). To calculate NPV of Diageo we
have to look for data in the most recent financial statements, published on Investor Relations page on
the company s website. The total value of Diageo s assets is reported to be 19,777,000,000 GBP. Total
Liabilities and Debt of Diageo was 14,532,000,000 GBP (all data as of July 31, 2010). Net Asset
Value = Total Assets Total Liabilities = 19,777,000,000 14,532,000,000 = 5,245,000,000 GBP Net
Asset Value per share = NAV/ Number of shares outstanding = 5,245,000,000 GBP/249,000,000
shares = 21.06 As we see, the number is very small and does not reflect the current value of the
company s stock. The NAV value is not only far from the current stock value, but it also can t be
considered as a fair value. The inconvenience lies in the fact that

  • 2. Russian Negotiation Report Essay Russian Negotiation Report (Director of the Archives) 1. What, in general, did you learn about negotiation from the simulation? What surprised you? What would you do differently? The pub was chosen to be the place to meet. It was meant to be a friendly place with drinks so that barriers would be broken. Of course, given it was just a simulation and we actually knew each other as friends, I m guessing the real world scenario would be slightly different, or at least the effect of choosing a friendly place would have different impact than I would imagine. That being said, I did notice that in an environment with a lot of background noise (I remember a basketball game was on), people tend to speak loudly, which leads them to ... All I cared about was scaling the $10 service I demanded to at least $3,000,000, given we had from 300,000 to 400,000 tapes in the archive. It s also worth mentioning that I had a secondary strategy that didn t work very well. I planned to come up with believable intangible demands that will hopefully make Pipeline uncomfortable to the point that they are willing to remove some of these demands in exchange for raising the service fees or the money paid to the Russian Government in general. One example of these believable intangible demands was: Printing the Russian Archive Institution s logo on the cover of every CD published. Nice, right!? The bad news to this dirty trick was that this was a complete simulation. These intangible demands didn t mean anything to our fellow simulators, and they simply agreed to every single demand with out any hesitation. I really wonder if this plan would really work in real life negotiations. 3. How did the concepts of process, power (structural and/or personal), interests, and/or mutual gains, etc. actually occur in the simulation? It was very obvious that the Russians had the absolute power. Pipeline tried very hard explaining and describing about the superiority of their technology in the market. They kept saying they were the best by a great margin over their competitors. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Death Of Artemio Cruz The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular life and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political and economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique will contain a summary of the novel and provide some examples and parallels on core course concepts evident in the story, hopefully demonstrating what learning was obtained using the lens of global health matters. Some of my personal musings and reflections will be included in the paper, and provide food for thought, reflections on universal problems commonly known if not shared by us all. Book Summary Beginning with his participation in the Mexican Revolutionary War as a young soldier embracing Marxist ideals bent on overthrowing the established, corrupt political structure in place, The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of our character in the aftermath of a successful revolution. The main plot underlines a striking contradiction, as the protagonist eventually espouses principles he has long eschewed, becoming the exploiter instead of the champion of the downtrodden, betraying the principles he had fought so long and hard for. The narrative begins while he lies helplessly on his deathbed, in the throes of drug and disease induced delirium, and through a series of flashbacks features his somewhat addled reminiscences of a (n) (in) ... • 7. The Ending Of The Aeneid While the ending of The Aeneid might be seen to have multiple significances, I believe that Virgil ended the poem the way he did to make a statement about the use of power to achieve dominance and rulership: namely, that a lust for nothing but power will ultimately consume. The poem ends with Turnus and Aeneas facing each other one on one on the battlefield. However, it should be noted that there are fundamental differences between the philosophies of the two combatants which should first be grasped to fully understand the significance of Aeneas s actions in ending the war. Before the battle between Aeneas and Turnus begins, the reader gets a glimpse of Turnus s philosophy regarding the stakes of the battle. Either I ll send, with my hand, this deserter of Asia, this Dardan, / Down to the Pit of the Damned and the Latins can sit down and watch while / My lone sword is refuting the charge of dishonor we all share; / Or you [Latinus] must share my defeat. And Lavinia must go as this man s wife. (12.14 17) Turnus believes that in war, there is no possible outcome but for one leader and his entire army to be wiped out in the other side s pursuit of honor and glory. Aeneas s views on the battle are displayed earlier in the poem, when he journeys down into the underworld and is instructed in Trojan battle philosophy by his deceased father Anchises. • 9. Foreshadowing Examples In The Most Dangerous Game In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game, author Richard Connell expertly exploits foreshadowing and vivid imagery to emphasize danger and suspense. Many authors attempt to do this, but only a small few succeed. Everyone who has stayed up past their bedtime reading a book will tell you, they stayed awake because the book they were reading was filled with suspense. It is suspense that separates the great stories from the good stories. And The Most Dangerous Game is definately a great one. By using foreshadowing and utilizing his characters five senses, Connell keeps readers at the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting to find out what comes next. Foreshadowing is a vital ingredient to any suspenseful story. It hints at the idea that something is off kilter, without ever revealing exactly what that something is. This leaves readers with an uneasy feeling about the plot, but they can t quite figure out why. Because of that suspicious feeling, readers are left with a burning desire to find out what happens on the next page. Foreshadowing can be achieved many different ways, such as through eree names, unpleasant conversations, and odd occurrences. In one of the very first sentences in the story, readers can already observe the usages of foreshadowing. The island they land on is referred to as Ship Trap Island, which hints at the danger it holds for sailors who may be passing by. This paper examines how the Allied commanders failed to properly take into consideration credible signals intelligence, human intelligence, and imagery intelligence. Pressure Back Home September 1944, the Allies fresh off of widespread victories in Western Europe devised a plan to put an end to the war by as early as Christmas 1944. The string of victories in Western Europe was a product of swift fighting and continued pressure on the German Army. The Allies had outpaced there logistical support during this swift fighting, and thus decided to halt the advance until supplies could catch up. • 11. Leadership In Julius Caesar What does leadership mean to someone? For most, it s how someone can make an impact. There are many important aspects of being a leader. The power of a great leader starts with the right mindset and willingness to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. One that is always a couple steps ahead and is there to look out for others. In William Shakespeare s famous play, Julius Caesar, few characters happen to have to right amount of potential to become a leader of Rome. With the death of the ruler Julius Caesar, two counter viewing characters gave a speech about Caesar which caused different reactions. One character in particular, Mark Antony, sticks out due to his great use of language and how he created an impact on Rome s people. Marcus Brutus on the other hand, also attempted to influence the people, but his inability to be more persuasive than Antony is what caused him to receive the more negative feedback. Brutus indeed spoke logically, but Antony would happen to make a better candidate as a leader because he spoke to the emotions of the people and knew what was right. Mark Antony qualifies as a superior leader because of his ability to connect with the people and by proving his loyalty. He is a solemn, confident, and persuasive man which are key reasons why he would make an outstanding ruler. In Julius Caesar, his confidence often shows. The threefold world divided, he should stand / One of the three to share it, (IV.i.14 15). Antony questioned whether or not Lepidus would be fitting to rule a third of the world. Antony would take one half, Octavius the other half and they would rule because he believed Lepidus was not capable. Antony s confidence shows his capability of being a leader. Relating back to the speech given at Caesar s funeral, Brutus gave a logical speech compared to Antony s persuasiveness which made the people have a different feedback and overall different impact on who they believed was more trustworthy. Along with Antony s confidence, his nobility towards others would have made him a great leader. His nobility was for Julius Caesar especially, who he was very close to. The Post War Era The zeitgeist of the post war era was change, encompassing both personal, social and political transformation explored by composer s experimentation with form and subject matter. The dominant discourse of power during the Cold War was the ideological conflict between Capitalism and Communism. The dominant ways of thinking were profoundly challenged by the emergence of an alternative, youth driven culture. A composer s disillusionment with the world in the After the Bomb period acted as a catalyst for them to not only challenge ways of thinking but also the traditional form of literature. The era saw widespread criticism of government systems and of the military industrial complex as hegemonic ideas about America were being questioned. There was a widespread perception that society had lost touch with the cornerstone of American values and pillars of democracy and it was the role of the writers, filmmakers and poets to recapture its emphasis on idealism rights and liberty and challenge the world that rejected these ideals. The texts which challenged the values and ways of thinking of the time coupled with their exploration of universal themes and the victims perspective enables these texts to continue to hold enormous significance and influence in today s society. Elgin and LeDrew (1997) proposes many changes that are necessary for the current and future world. Instead of focusing on the individual person or country, the world should be viewed as a whole and complete entity. Economically there should be fair competition. Individuals should participate in life in such a way that is fulfilling and exciting, but also working towards a greater and global good. This is a very different perspective for the Iranian government, but to be successful in the new age it is a necessary shift in thinking. Two trends for success that are pertinent for the Iranians are decentralization and an emphasis on personal growth and community. Each of these trends is essential for a newly developed democratic nation. They are fundamental for success in the Conceptual Age or Reflective/Living Systems Paradigm. Huitt (1999a) first emphasized decentralization in his writings on the Informational Age. According to Huitt s definition, decentralization is the process of putting the responsibility and authority for making decisions into the hands of the people who will be implementing the decision (p. 2). Solar power is a type of renewable energy that produces energy by collecting sunlight given from the sun. Not only does sunlight maintain the earth s temperature and sustain life for plants through the process of photosynthesis, it also provides energy to many commercial businesses as well as the homes of many Americans. Unlike fossil fuels, solar power provides a clean form of energy without harmful greenhouse gases. Solar energy is very easily obtained, renewable, and emits no harmful greenhouse gasses. As a result of these factors, some researchers claim developing solar panels on a large scale around the United States would be very beneficial in many ways. On the contrary, other experts claim that developing solar panels on a large scale would be catastrophic for utilities due to the fact that solar energy systems and utilities are competitors. Solar energy systems should be implemented in the United States because they are renewable, beneficial to the environment, abundant, easily obtained, cost effective, and they provide jobs for many Americans. In 1984, Big Brother is a dictator, which an example of is what North Korea is like with Kim Jong un as a singular ruler over the citizens. This example means that George Orwell was trying to make a novel that would continue for years to explain the dangers of only having one person making the decisions for the people of their country. Another reason for including dictatorships and the issues with them was to make sure that all readers for generations to come would notice that their life was not very different from the life that the people in 1984 were living in. There were telescreens that watched the members of the Party s every move and making sure that they were not going against their country in any way. The novel, 1984, includes the telescreens as an example of what life is like for all citizens today because the leaders of the country can always have access to anything people do on their technology. The example above shows Orwell wanting to make the book something that everyone for generations could relate with technology constantly advancing. Without a clear picture of the business requirements, there is a high likelihood that a new system would not bring the anticipated results.
